Talking about it, Bushra Ansari said, “I am already wounded and have a bad experience regarding my daughter’s marriage. In our time, we weren’t allowed to explore things. We were restricted from having male friends, and we didn’t study in co-education. In reaction to that, we told our daughters not to lie and to inform us if they liked anyone. I remember once Nari received a call at home, and Ansari Sahab said, ‘I don’t want boys calling my daughters.’ I asked him to give them a bit of freedom so they wouldn’t lie. I made him understand that studied in co-education and had male friends. Those friends would naturally call her, and otherwise she would have to lie about them. I didn’t want my daughters to lie. He then said he wouldn’t allow her to visit her male friends’ houses, to which I replied, ‘It’s okay. I will invite her friends to our house. They are most welcome.’ So, we found a middle ground and became more progressive.”

She further added, “We belong to a middle-class family where it was considered a taboo to tell daughters to look for rich husbands. How could we ever say, ‘Find a man with a big house or a lot of property?’ Because, for us, values mattered more than money. We believed financial status didn’t matter as much as a man’s upbringing. We always advocated that a husband and wife should build a home together, even if the husband had a low income. We made a mistake while finding a perfect match for our daughter. I couldn’t judge a boy by his family or outward appearance. I thought if he’s talking elegantly, his family is educated, he is the right guy. Even Nariman had told me that he gets upset whenever I ask him about his finances. It was actually a major red flag, but we ignored it because we were afraid of losing the proposal.” Watch here:

It’s fine if they serve as a source of entertainment for people, but personally, I feel that we worship less because of them. Previously, we used to spend more time reciting Quran during the day, but now we just sit in front of the TV. Bushra Ansari and her husband Iqbal Hussain have now been married for some years now. This was a second chance at love for the duo and they are happy in this marriage now. They did not announce their union for over 5 years and it has not been long since they went public with their relationship.
