Ahsan Khan has been creating waves with his performance as Rashid in drama serial Qayamat. The renowned actor has been winning praise for his portrayal of a spoilt and abusive husband. In fact, the actor has even received love from across the border for his role in the drama serial. Veteran Bollywood actress Zarina Wahab, in a Whatsapp message sent to the actor, praised him, writing: “As Rashid, you are too much… Excellent work.”

Recently Ahsan Khan was spotted in an interview with “Something Haute”.

Ahsan Khan revealing about his inspiration for his character in drama serial Qayamat, mentioned that “I got inspiration from one of the very famous scholar Zameer Akhtar Naqvi, who is no more with us.”

“His way of speaking attracted and inspired me. There were a lot of memes through which I gained inspiration”, added Ahsan.

When Ahsan Khan shared the meme which became controversial many people criticized him including writer and actor Vasay Chaudhry. Ahsan Khan’s first reaction was to delete the meme from his social networking pages because he did not want to create controversy of this kind which would effect his work in drama serial Udaari negatively.

He also talked to Express Tribune about the matter. Talking directly about sharing the meme and the reaction it got he said,

“As a person, I have my own definition of humor. People derive different meanings out of things and you can’t please everyone.”

He also added,

“For those who feel it was in bad taste, I wasn’t trying to be offensive or hurt anyone’s  feeling. I am not that kind of a person who will offend someone with my personal choices or views.”

Ahsan Khan also asserted that he took this project very seriously and wasn’t going to stop here. He said,

“A lot of memes have been made in the past but I ignored them as I didn’t want to trivialise the issue and kill the message. I have been constantly making efforts to eliminate this evil through the platform of Udaari. And because of it, a lot of people are willing to share their stories with me. I am planning to make a documentary to further highlight this issue.”

He also shared how he ended up doing the role of Imtiaz in Udaari.

“A lot of good actors were offered the role of Imtiaz but they rejected it. I couldn’t digest the scenes and was also bashed by friends and family for portraying it on the screen, but I didn’t back out.”

He also went on to elaborate why he shared the meme.

“I didn’t have any negative intention while sharing that meme. For me, it was just a dialogue that people remembered. I wasn’t trying to endorse, celebrate or glorify my character.”

There is no denying the fact that Ahsan Khan is an actor par excellence. But there is also no doubt about what a wonderful human being Ahsan is. Ahsan has done a lot to support local charities and for children with special needs, he’s definitely a celebrity with a heart of gold.

I am glad that Sarmad Khoosat asked Ahsan Khan to explain how he initiated the Dewar-e-Mehrbaani project in Pakistan. He revealed that through an inspiring video, he came to know about the project Dewar-e-Mehrbaani or Wall of Kindness initiated in Iran. He took it upon himself to bring this project to Pakistan. In the awake of #MeToo movement reaching Pakistan many celebrities have given their two cents on sexual harassment and it’s dynamics but when Ahsan Khan who is an advocate of women empowerment was questioned about his stance on the high-profile Meesha Shafi-Ali Zafar harassment case this is what he had to say,

“I would stand with all women who have been sexually harassed. Actually, I would stand with any person, not just women, who have suffered any type of harassment.”

He continued,

“There’s no glory in discrediting a woman for revealing that she has suffered a crime. Some people are making jokes out of this situation as well, which is very distasteful,”

Explaining how upset he was with how Meesha was treated after breaking the silence he said,

“Honestly, I’m hurt by what happened after Meesha claimed that she was harassed. It is very hard for a woman to speak out about harassment. Such women deserve support, not criticism.”

The Chupan Chupai star went on to cite the example of 24-year-old Samina Samoon, who was recently shot dead for refusing to dance for an armed man, to highlight how women from showbiz are often disrespected more.

“It is depressing how our society holds high regards for only male actors while the girls in this profession are mere objects. In Samina’s case, there was a blatant disregard for humanity as she was six-months pregnant. They didn’t kill just her but the unborn child as well. Two lives were taken that day. What should we expect from a society which nurtures this kind of mindset?

The actor continued,

“Always remember no one can ever take away your honour, respect, and dignity unless you willingly give it up. I think one must know where to draw a line, to define his or her social limits and alert others of them. Sexual harassment should never be taken lightly.”

In the meantime, Ahsan hopes that the truth will prevail and the innocent will not get hurt.

“Ali has said that he will move to the court. Now, let us breathe, sit back and wait for the law to take its course. We must have faith in our legal system. We have a law that guarantees protection against harassment. Section 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code is intact. More importantly, God is fair and will ensure the right outcome. Gossip, slander and chatter will only hurt our sentiments so let’s behave with dignity, grace and responsibility.”

He concluded by adding,

“The only two people who know the facts in the Meesha and Ali case are Meesha and Ali themselves. I don’t think anyone else should muddle in the matter. I wish truth, peace, justice and the courage to admit fault to the both of them.”

The production house and channels have to add commercials for their profit. Sometimes the dramas are dragged to coverup their financial needs.”

“At the same time it’s their responsibility to not to drag dramas in a way which offends the audience. They should not repeat the flashback again and again. The production house should keep in mind that the drama should be interesting, otherwise your audience will be distracted”, added Ahsan Khan.

On the question, “Are awards given to those actors, who attend the event?”, He said, “It should be asked from organizers but once I couldn’t attend an IPPA award function which was happening in Norway, but, I still got that award, the award was for Alif, I remember, Maya Ali Announced that Ahsan Khan is not here at the moment. Ayesha Omar and Ahsan Khan did a film together titled Rehbra. After the film came out, the stars shared some BTS scenes from the film where Ahsan Khan rescues Ayesha Omar while they ride away on a horse.
