Sammi Episode 5 Review – Interesting Developments

The most important issue which is being highlighted in Sammi right from the first episode is the exploitation of women at the hands of men with the help and support of women who are their accomplice! Everyone who has power over these women in some context or the other abuses their position to use either their sister, wife, daughter or even an ex-girlfriend for their own selfish interests. One thing which stood out more than any other in this episode was the way Sammi has been completely disowned by everyone. There was a time not very long ago when Sammi had a mother, a father, a brother and a lot of relatives and friends. Now she has absolutely no one who wants to own her. The way her parents have disowned her completely was the most upsetting part of this episode. The only person who is looking for Sammi is someone who wants to destroy her.

Rashid could not care less what Chandni does to Sammi, he did what he was asked to do and now Sammi’s fate is in Chandni’s hands. Chandni’s dialogues were misleading in the previous episode therefore watching her run a parlor was a good twist in the story which also promises that there is hope for Sammi. Although Sammi’s new boss (maalik?) is a bitter person but she has taken up the responsibility of training Saami. Chandni threatened Rashid that she might do something terrible with Sammi but it seems highly unlikely that she would do something like that. Chandni’s character is the kind of character which grabs your attention instantly and it is even more interesting watching Sania Saeed nail this role. Sania Saeed is an exceptional actress who always highlights all the different shades of the characters she plays through her expressions and body language. Chandni is tough from the outside only and I am waiting to find out more about her past. Sania Saeed’s overall look goes perfectly with the character she is playing and the focus on how “kamina” she thinks Rashid is yet she cannot let him go completely was interesting.

Sammi Episode 5 Review - Interesting Developments

Mawra Hocane played the scared and vulnerable girl who had no idea what fate had in store for her but was trying her best to survive perfectly in this episode. She looked innocent and scared in all the scenes which made me relate to her character more than ever in this episode. Also, it was good watching her wear clothes and sporting a hairstyle which went well with her character. I have a feeling that Chandni and Sammi’s relationship is going to be the highlight of this drama very soon.

The writer has etched-out Chaudhry Nawaz’s character brilliantly. His mentality is translated through his words, he has no problem calling someone who has been loyal to him for years his “paltu kutta”. He actually thinks that Rashid should take this as a compliment! He is so ignorant but he is incharge because he has the power and the financial resources. Rehan Sheikh and Adnan Siddiqui both are excellent performers, who makes their scenes even more impactful. I am waiting to find out how Rashid gets out of this situation.

The viewers also found out more about Nadia Afghan’s character in this episode. She is someone who spreads awareness and is considered an expert when she is at the clinic but when she is home she is also a vulnerable woman who is being exploited by her brother.

Overall, this was an interesting episode of Sammi. I like where the story is headed and there are plenty of tracks in the drama to keep the interest of the viewers alive as long as all these tracks are handled well. I must say though that this isn’t just Sammi’s story but it is the story of many women who are fighting different battles.

Sammi Episode 4 Review – Tough Times Ahead

With this episode the story moved forward in a different direction. One aspect of Sammi’s story which has been the same right from the first episode is that she had absolutely no say in all those major decisions which altered her life completely not once but over and over again. This time it was Chaudhry’s wife and Rashid who decided her fate, they obviously had their own best interests in mind and were not thinking about how Sammi would end up once she reaches Karachi. Sammi’s fears and her confusion was translated impeccably on screen by Mawra Hocane in this episode. Her expressions were right on point when Rashid told her what the plan was and even when she was in the train. While Mawra Hocane’s facial expressions won me over completely I have to say that I am waiting for an episode when she will have more dialogues too. The flashbacks scenes showed how Sammi was naturally thinking about a time not very long ago when everything was perfect and she thought there were a lot of people around her who loved her but Sammi has not been shown thinking about her circumstances at all. A few dialogues would have made her scenes even more impactful.

Sammi Episode 4 Review - Tough Times Ahead

Rashid once again made a half-hearted promise to his wife. Nadia Afghan’s character is playing a positive role in the drama; she is there to educate Rashid and those people out there who are watching this show and need to know more about the importance of family planning – an issue which was tackled in detail in drama serial Nijaat which aired many years back but the message it gave was so strong that it is still fresh in the minds of the viewers even today. This track definitely reminded me of drama serial Nijaat for various reasons. Rashid’s character is one of the most interesting characters in the drama and I am waiting to see how he deals with Chaudhry now that he has vowed to kill him if he is not able to find Sammi. Rashid too is a pawn in the hands of Chaudhry and his wife just like Sammi. Rashid’s house, that infant and the overall feel of the track is also very realistic.

Chaudhry’s conversation with his son was one of the most meaningful conversations in this episode which showed the mentality of those people who fail to see those individuals as humans who are not as influential or rich as them. Chaudhry’s son does not see Sammi as a human but he wants to flaunt her like a thing he owns and is proud of. His father’s overall personality and Chaudhry’s conversations with his son clearly showed where that mindset came from! Rehan Sheikh is one of the most impressive actors of our drama industry who manages to nail every single role assigned to him almost effortlessly. He never ceases to impress the viewers.

Sammi Episode 4 Review - Tough Times Ahead

I am looking forward to finding out more about Sania Saeed’s character because it seemed quite intriguing. So far whatever we have seen in these 4 episodes suggests that Sammi is going to cover multiple subjects from the feudalistic mindset to the importance of family planning and the evil of human trafficking. I would like to see Chaudhry Rab Nawaz shooting Sammi’s brother in the upcoming episode or doing something which would prove that he is ruthless because so far his empty threats haven’t helped shaping up his character’s cruel side.

Sammi Episode 3 Review – Manipulating The Weak

This episode opened with Chaudhry Fazal Din refusing to accept Sammi as his vani. His decision to take a stand even though Chaudhry Rab Nawaz tried his best to convince him to go ahead with the nikkah by giving him lectures on ghairat, was completely in line with his character but watching Rab Nawaz accept Sammi as Vani for his son instead of shooting her brother did not quite fit in. Also, it did make me wonder if Rab Nawaz was going to let Fazal get away with this? Surely someone like him who believed in forcing people into submitting to his will would use more than just words to have his way and if things still didn’t go according to his plans one would expect him to make an example out of the person who refused to listen to him. Rehan Sheikh is an exceptional actor who makes every scene count but this latest twist in the story came out of nowhere. So far the focus of the story is more on those people who are forcing their decisions on Sammi and how these decisions are shaping up the course of Sammi’s life. It would have been so much better if the viewers were introduced to Sammi’s character in detail in the first 2 episodes or so before starting the actual story. There was one scene in this episode in particular which showed how deeply the mindset that a girl should sacrifice everything to save her male relative’s life was engraved in Sammi’s mind. She begged Chaudhry to spare her brother’s life and was willing to do anything at all in return. This scene was short but impactful.

This episode had a lot of scenes which showed the selfishness of those people who were making these life altering decisions for Sammi. Watching Sammi’s brother worrying about the bruises on his face more than his sister was one such scene which said a great deal. Haris Waheed’s confident acting and his overall look makes me wish that we saw more of him before he killed his friend. Now he has a limited role to play in the story or so it seems. Sammi’s mother cursed her for not being able to save her brother’s life and her father who is responsible for all this just does not care!

Sammi Episode 3 Review - Manipulating The Weak

Rashid is another person who is looking out for his own interests and he is another mard who claims to love his wife but he puts his own needs and desires first. Nadia Afghan’s character was introduced in tonight’s episode and she too appeared to be more “refined” than one would have expected her to be. Apart from Rab Nawaz’s wife, all the other women in this play worship their men and would gladly do anything for them.

Rab Nawaz’s definition of ghairat and the status of men and women was another interesting aspect of tonight’s episode. Rab Nawaz is ignorant but he is so sure that there is nothing wrong with his beliefs. His wife however does not want her house or child to be affected by whatever her husband believes in. She wants to educate her son and does not agree with her husband but she also knows that there is very little that she can do about the situation openly therefore she turned to Rashid for help. This development will change the course of the story completely. Watching Rashid’s daughters defending their mother was one of the best scenes of this episode.

So far, the good thing about this drama is that it has introduced the viewers to a world which is real for a lot of unfortunate people but completely alien to many of us who sit in front of the television screens and watch these stories unfold and it has managed to do so without getting too dull and depressing. Although all the tracks in the drama are serious and they highlight the status of women in such villages in some way or the other but even then the approach is simple therefore Sammi so far isn’t a very heavy duty drama.

Sammi Episode 20 Review – Loved It!

Sammi never ceases to impress me; this was another remarkable episode with a lot of substance and many scenes which were extremely emotional. It happens rarely that you get emotionally attached to so many characters in a play, especially one with multiple tracks and variety of characters but Sammi has definitely managed to achieve just that because of numerous reasons. Firstly, the characters are beautifully and flawlessly etched-out. Their story has been told with utmost sincerity therefore they are realistic and easy to connect to. Secondly, all the actors have been beyond impressive (with the exception of Mawra Hocane) in portraying their characters. The eloquence and perfection with which they utter their dialogues and their outlooks breathe tangible life into their roles. Thirdly, all the conversations always add something to their story, all the dialogues are well thought out and Sammi is one of those rare dramas with absolutely no repetition. With every dialogue and interaction either the story goes further or you know something new about the character and sometimes these dialogues give perfect voice to what a particular character is going through at a particular moment. Lastly, it has been a long time since I heard such good use of Urdu language in any other drama.

This episode had so many poignant moments and it is difficult to pinpoint one scene which was my favorite. However, if I had to choose, I would choose the scene in which Salima announced that she finally knew the gender of their child. Rashid’s reaction and most importantly the effect his words had on his daughters was priceless. What a beautiful message the writer put forward through this scene. We need to see more such characters in our dramas which change for good and we are shown how big an impact the change in one individual’s thinking can have on an entire family. The scene in which Rashid hugged his daughters was very touching and it was the highlight of tonight’s episode. Salima is finally convinced that she can have a “secure” marriage without a son therefore she no longer feels the need to lie to her family in order to be temporarily happy. All the actors involved in this particular track; Saman Ansari, Adnan Siddiqui and all these beautiful girls who are playing the roles of their daughters have always been brilliant throughout. This is the reason why their scenes always make me emotional.

Sammi Episode 20 Review - Loved It!

The change in Waqas’ character and the scene in which he begged Sammi to forgive him was another intense scene with yet another strong message for all the “gheratmand” brothers out there. I cannot praise the writer enough for her overall approach towards all these issues. She has presented everything in such a way that those people who are guilty of these crimes would really have a reason to rethink their actions after watching this play. Waqas has realized just how wrong he was but Sammi does not want to forgive him now. Haris Waheed has been phenomenal as Waqas, he has proved through this play that he isn’t just a natural actor but he is also versatile. Tonight even Mawra Hocane’s acting was up to the mark therefore for the first time it was great watching Sammi stand up for herself. She is still scared from inside but she has made up her mind therefore she will not let this fear stand in the way of doing what is right. She is no longer willing to play the victim and no one can make her a victim without her consent.

Naheed is another woman who faced all those people who came to question her with courage but later on her reaction showed that she was completely broken from inside and rightly so too. The preview of the next episode gave hope that Naheed’s track will have a happy ending – she deserves just that!

Chandni and Aalyan’s scene was another powerful scene of this episode. Also. Chandni and Zulekha’s conversations were deep and meaningful. Sania Saeed and Madiha Rizvi both are brilliant performers who always do complete justice to all the roles assigned to them. I am glad we saw the chota chaudhry worrying about his father’s fate since he was there when Aalyan and Sammi were talking about going to the police. Just like every other episode Chaudhry Nawaz’s dialogues and Rehan Sheikh’s acting was right on point. He is such a powerful performer.

Loved this recent episode of Sammi, it was written beautifully and directed flawlessly. I can’t wait to see how this drama ends next week. I will be very happy if it turns out to be one of those dramas which do not end with a tradegy, there is hope that it will have a good and positive ending. I am wondering what will become of chaudhry Nawaz. Will Rashid kill him?

Sammi Episode 2 Review – Bitter Realities

This second episode of Sammi laid down the premises of the play even more clearly and the story also moved forward this week. Tonight’s episode was also emotional and showed that it isn’t always the poor people who become victims of the judgments of the jirga but sometimes people like Chaudhry Fazal also suffer because they are not heartless like Chaudhry Rab Nawaz. Chaudhry Nawaz is an example of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. He wants his brother’s share of property and he also wants to make sure that he continues to exercise control over people. There is no one in the entire village who questions him and apart from his wealth, the power he exercises on people’s mind gives him the authority to pressurize people into doing things they wouldn’t do otherwise. It is definitely refreshing watching different kinds of characters in this drama, not everyone is evil or corrupt but some of these people are slaves to this system because they don’t know how to break free from it and there are others who dare to swim against the tide. It was good to see Fazal refusing to marry Sammi, this particular development was completely in line with his character and everything that we saw in these two episodes.

Tonight’s episode showed how there are people who can easily forget they ever had a daughter just to have their sons by their side. Sammi’s mother’s concern for her brother and the lack of concern for her daughter was a sad truth! At the same time the viewers got to see Marium’s mother, who might not have the energy to look after her daughters but was not ashamed of giving birth to daughters. Someone who even with all the negativity around her had the courage to tell her daughter that she preferred a daughter to a son. All these different characters show that we are not being shown stereotypes in this drama.

Sammi Episode 2 Review - Bitter Realities

The viewers found out more about Rashid’s character and family in this episode. Zarina is Rashid’s mother which explains a lot! Rashid’s relationship with his wife and the conversation both of them had showed a different side of his personality.

The tragedy which had engulfed Fazal’s house and his life after his son’s tragic death was covered brilliantly in all the scenes. The flashback scene in which Pervaiz tells his father about Sammi was brilliantly placed. It showed how quickly everything changed for the worse and how helpless and sad Fazal and his wife were now.

Sammi’s OST is beautiful and deep, it would have been so much better if this OST was used in the background more. Watching Chaudhrani watch Sang-e-Mar Mar while Fazal’s wife was locked in the room and her husband was forced in the nikkah was an interesting addition! It showed how little the suffering of their own family members meant to them. The overall setting of this drama is perfect, the director has kept the originality of a village set up alive without adding details which would have made the drama more visually appealing and glamorous but difficult to connect to. It also looks like this story is not going to be about Sammi alone but every character has a story to tell and what makes the drama more interesting is that all these stories are interrelated. So far the story has been somewhat predictable but with so many tracks and so much which the writer is willing to explore there is always tons to look forward to. I felt more connected to all the characters after watching this episode. Adnan Siddiqui, Rehan Sheikh, Noor-ul-Hassan, Seemi Raheel, Haris Waheed, Humera Ali, Madiha Rizvi, the actress playing Maryam and the one playing Fazal’s wife completely look and own their roles. I am waiting to see more of Mawra Hocane and am quite sure that once her character starts getting more screen time she will make her presence felt. I do hope that her outlook changes with her situation and we see more from her than crying and pleading.

Sammi Episode 2 Review - Bitter Realities

The preview of the third episode suggested that the story will take an interesting turn with the next episode but in my opinion the preview was too detailed. Nadia Afghan’s character will also be introduced in the upcoming episode. Sammi has enough content and tracks to keep the viewers engaged, I am waiting to see how these tracks are handled in the upcoming episodes.

Sammi Episode 19 Review – Well-Crafted

This episode had a lot of important developments to its credit and quite a few scenes which were very touching. Also, like all the previous episodes of Sammi this one too was packed with some powerful and positive messages. All the characters in this drama have come a long way, this change has been shown gradually and realistically. Aalyan played a major role in changing the way Sammi had been handling her situation so far. Rashid has always been shown as someone who was quite capable of feeling for people around him therefore watching him regret everything he had done and trying to help Sammi in some way did not come as a surprise. So far the main motivation behind Zulekha’s actions has been to ensure that Chaudhry does not get married to Sammi but the preview of the next episode suggested that Chandni might be able to bring about a change in her way of thinking too.

Right from the beginning the writer had made it quite clear that all the characters in this drama are in their respective situations mainly because of their mental barriers. Although most of them are quite capable of breaking free from the shackles of the system and those people who do not let them live a life on their own terms and conditions, but they do not even attempt to do things differently. Sammi did something tonight which was brand new for her, she decided to speak up for herself. Although there isn’t much she can do practically to change her situation right now but the fact is that if she decides to stand up for herself, the Chaudhry will automatically lose his grip on her. Right now, Chaudhry Nawaz is very conscious about his “reputation” which is why in the previous episode he asked Zulekha to cover up for him when the press questions him about his actions regarding Sammi therefore there is a good reason why Sammi’s newfound confidence will be a big hurdle in the way of his plans.

Sammi Episode 19 Review - Well-Crafted

The scene which covered Sammi’s meeting with her family was written beautifully. Sammi had very little time to get her message across and she definitely managed to give her father and brother something to think about. Even though Mawra’s outlook, just like always, proved to be a big distraction but even then that scene was very impactful. My most favorite part of this episode however was Rashid’s track and the turn it has taken. The change in Rashid’s personality and the way he stood there holding the gun to make sure that Sammi’s family listened to her showed he was on Sammi’s side now. Rashid’s meeting with Chandni was also extremely emotional. The dialogues, the performances and the way this scene was directed was very impressive.

Aalyan has always played a positive role throughout, right from the get-go he was introduced as someone who wasn’t afraid of anyone and someone who chose his battles wisely and fought hard to win them with logic and reasoning. His support saved his phupo’s life, his words brought about a major change in Sammi and he has made a big difference by changing the mindset the chota chaudhry was raised with. His character shows how one person can be the torchbearer of change. Naheed’s conversation with Aalyan was also beautifully penned down and executed flawlessly. Love how all these wonderful actors have completely transformed themselves to fit into their respective roles.

Naheed and Salima’s scene in the hospital was another impactful scene of this episode. I am waiting to see a change in Salima’s character. Even though Rashid assured her that he did not want a son but Salima is convinced that only a son can open the door of happiness for her family.

This was another well put together episode of Sammi which had a lot to offer. The preview of the next episode was very enticing as well.

Sammi Episode 18 Review – Going Strong

When this serial started most of us were under the impression that this drama is going to be about the custom of vanni alone and it will explore this practice by showing the leading character live her life as a vanni. I am glad that Sammi is about much more than that. Every episode has something new to offer and the character development in the drama has been great throughout.

I love the way the writer highlighted Waqas’ frame of mind in this episode, he was a loving brother who turned into a monster who was out to prove that he was gherat mand mainly due to the pressure of his father and peers. When Chaudhry Rab Nawaz asked him to kill someone for him Waqas said that he did not want to be a murderer. Later on when his father asked him to do what Chaudhry wanted him to do and kill Sammi as well, he once again reflect upon the way his life once ways and the turn his life took after the incident on Sammi’s wedding. Although, Pervaiz’s death was an accident but Waqas got scared and he was willing to do anything it took to stay out of jail so that he could save his own life. Waqas has been shown as someone who is easily influenced but now for a change he is questioning everything he did and no longer wants to be a part of all this. Haris Waheed and Irfan Khoosat were phenomenal in tonight’s episode. Haris Waheed’s outlook and performance both are beyond brilliant. Irfan Khoosat’s portrayal of a father who is the perfect example of an ignorant man was brilliant. The conversation between Waqas and his father was actually extremely disturbing. Watching a father pressurizing his son to kill his only daughter was very upsetting and my heart went out to all such women who have to live under such circumstances.

My second favorite conversation/scene of tonight’s episode was the one which covered Naheed’s state of mind and the way her sister in law tried to make her feel guilty for doing something which was completely legal. I absolutely love Naheed’s confidence, although she does not have a lot of resources but she is a strong woman who makes the most of her circumstances. Hearing Naheed admit that she married Ghulam Rasool so that she could have a child was shocking but it once again showed how different this woman was from all the other women around her. The dialogues about haram and halal were right on point! I am waiting for the time when Ghulam Rasool will finally be back because I have a feeling that Naheed will get her happy ending at some point. Once again Nadia Afghan translated her character faultlessly on screen.

Chaudhry Nawaz wants both Waqas and Rashid out of his way so that he can marry Sammi. If Waqas kills Rashid, he would want Chaudhry Nawaz to fulfill his end of the bargain, Chaudhry does not want to do that which is why he wants Waqas dead too. Chaudhrani’s role in the entire scenario is also very interesting. Madiha Rizvi and Rehan Sheikh both own their roles completely. I did not really like the way Aalyan looked at Sammi today and once again Mawra Hocane was a complete disappointment. She did not do justice to those beautiful and touching dialogues and made it very difficult for me to connect to her character. However, I cannot appreciate the writer enough for asserting the fact that the consent of a woman at the time of nikkah is more important than anything else once again in this episode.

Chandni made her way into the haveli by the end of the episode and I can’t wait to find out what her plan is. Like every other episode of Sammi, this one too had some strong messages and the story moved forward considerably. This time around I really missed Shahzaib and even Rashid’s mother. All the characters add something special to the story and have a presence of their own therefore even if one of them is missing, they are truly missed!! The director and the writer deserve tons of credit for paying attention to minute details and for giving all the tracks adequate screen time in every episode. It isn’t easy handling a story with so many different tracks and it is even more difficult to make every track in the story count!

The preview of the next episode suggested that Salima is going to have another girl and Rashid and Chandni will finally be face to face! Looking forward to how the story unfolds from here on.

Sammi Episode 17 Review – Remarkable!

“Dekh meri beti ne mujhe khoobsurat bana diya, mere sare daagh chupa diye us ne…yeh hoti hei betiyan!”

This was another powerful episode of Sammi with tons of substance. This drama has so many amazing messages and they couldn’t have been put forward in a more apt manner. I simply love the realistic portrayals which show the amount of effort all these actors and the director put in to make sure that the viewers have no trouble connecting to all of these characters which are beautifully etched-out. Every character in this play is meaningful in some way or the other and represents a certain mindset. I must say that although most of the tracks in the story are linked with Sammi in some way and right now many of these oppressed people are joining hands to free Sammi but I see Sammi as more of a symbol of Chaudhry’s Nawaz’s tyranny more than anything else. The character itself has been the most passive character in the drama and Mawra Hocane is the only actor in the drama who looks like a complete misfit right from day one. All the other actors look and act the role whether it is Adnan Siddiqui, Saman Ansari, Seemi Raheel, Bilal Khan, Rehan Sheikh, Haris Waheed, Nadia Afghan and even the chota chaudhry, their accents and looks are totally in line with the characters they are playing. Mawra Hocane’s short shirts, patiala shalwars, neatly tied hair, make-up and styling which is fairly decent makes it very difficult for me to connect to her character. Thankfully, all the other actors made sure that they put their performance above everything else therefore the drama as a whole is turning out to be very intense.

This episode started with Rashid taking a stand in front of Chaudhry Nawaz, not for his sake but for the sake of his daughters. Salima was there to support him and for a few hours only they thought they could live a happier life without Chaudhry’s ghulami. It was only after Chaudhry burned down their house that they were left begging him to take them back. Rashid’s dialogues when he begged the Chaudhry to let him stay in his haveli were heart-wrenching; this man has no idea that there is a whole world outside this village where he can start a new life! Chaudhry’s mindset has always been shown faultlessly; his dialogues and actions both help the viewers understand his character. Adnan Siddiqui and Rehan Sheikh were beyond brilliant in this episode. Their dialogues and the scenarios were powerful and their performances breathed life into all these situations.

The change in Shahzaib’s attitude was the best part of this episode. The chemistry between Bilal Khan and the child actor playing the role of Shahzaib has definitely elevated the overall effect this particular track has on the viewers. The dialogue “Itne pyare insan ko insan banane mei zarur kamyabi ho gi … aik bara insan.” was one of my most favorite dialogue from tonight’s episode and this scene was so touching. Shahzaib was finally questioning his father for a change instead of accepting everything he saw and adopting it as well. Aalyan is a mentor for him now who he looks up to more than anyone else around him.

Chaudhrani turned to Aalyan for help only after she saw the change in her son. Right from the beginning she has been shown as someone who does not believe in playing the victim even when the odds are against her and once again she was seen doing something tangible to change the way things were. Chaudhrani’s character has also evolved in the past few episodes, there was a time when she was only looking out for her own self but now she is also one of those people who want to do something to change the system. Although there are many times when there isn’t much she can do to change a situation but she always questions Chaudhry and does whatever she can.

Chandni finally arrived in Rahim Yar Khan after all these years and her body language and expressions showed that she was a completely different person now – someone who had lost everything but had found a new purpose in life, something that would make her feel less guilty.

I am completely in awe of this drama and truly appreciate the hard work the entire team of Sammi put in to give us this amazing play which has so much to offer. Every episode of Sammi is intense, detailed and satisfying! It is one of those very few dramas which covers so many different issues but does so with precision.

Sammi Episode 16 Review – Significant Developments

I love the pace of this drama and also the fact that the writer has a very strong grip on the story and the director has done everything he could to make it as realistic as possible. I have said this before but every time I watch a new episode of Sammi, I feel the need to say it again, I truly appreciate the fact that the writer and director both have done complete justice to all the tracks of the story which is why all of them are equally interesting. None of the characters or tracks is ever relegated to the background. The fact that all these tracks are interlinked also makes the whole scenario more interesting.

The change in Rashid’s character and Naheed’s conversation with Salima had to be my favorite part of this episode. Rashid has finally had enough and he has decided to change his priorities in life. He is no longer comfortable playing Chaudhry’s “kutta” and he understands that his daughters deserve better. He couldn’t do anything to save Sammi but he wants to do whatever he can to make his daughter’s lives better. I had no trouble connecting to the change in Rashid’s character because he was always shown as someone who did not really belong in this system but was only trying really hard to be a part of it because he believed he did not have a lot of options. He has now decided to make some choices himself and for a change his mother is supporting him. Maryam’s reaction to her father’s changed behaviour was right on point. The actress playing Maryam’s role is brilliant, she manages to make a big impact even if she has very little screen time.

I simply loved the entire situation which finally led to Naheed disclosing her secret to Salima. She could see why Salima was willing to put her life at stake in order to have Rashid’s son. It was wonderful watching these two weak women having this moment together in which one of them decided to help the other even though she herself is going through hell and the other one also poured her heart out to her because she had no one to talk to. Naheed’s character has been one of my favorite characters in the play; her situation is anything but ideal but even then she always finds ways to help others. Although her character is very different from that of Salima but both these women are equally vulnerable. Even with all the awareness, the education and even the strength Naheed is just as helpless as Salima. Nadia Afghan and Saman Ansari both are remarkable actresses; both of them have always altered their outlook and their acting style to suit the needs of the characters they are translating on screen.

Sammi’s track also took a really interesting turn in this episode and I am glad that Chandni is back in the picture. I can’t appreciate Noor-ul-Huda Shah enough for thinking everything through so well; when Salar sent Aalyan that recording the viewers were pretty sure this development will have a bigger impact on the story at some point but no one could tell it would one day help Sammi in this way. I couldn’t understand why Sammi was shown wearing all this make-up though. Sammi’s mother’s apology showed that she was “sorry” but not sorry enough! She also justified her actions while she apologized and accepted the fact that she couldn’t sacrifice her son to save Sammi. There was a time when Sammi thought there was hope, she was in denial and could not accept the fact that her family had forsaken her but everything she said to her mother tonight clearly showed that she did not expect anything from her family now. Aalyan finally managed to knock some sense into the chota chauhdry and it was great watching him do something right for a change. I can’t praise Bilal Khan and the child actor playing chota chaudhry enough for doing complete justice to their respective characters.

Am I the only one who really missed chaudhrani in this episode? I have a feeling that ultimately she will also help Sammi in some way. I can totally see all these characters rebelling against the chaudhry very soon. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

Sammi Episode 15 Review – Intense & Meaningful

Sammi has gradually won me over completely and I find myself talking (raving) about this play every time I have a discussion with anyone at all about Pakistani dramas. There are many reasons why Sammi holds a special place in my heart but the most important reason is that this drama focuses entirely on the issues which it aims to highlight, there isn’t a single track in the story which is there for “commercial reasons”, there is no forced love story and most importantly even without glamour this drama manages to make you look forward to it every single week. Sammi proves that a well thought out script which is executed skillfully will engage and educate the viewers even if there is no glamour involved. Although we have seen many of the actors in this drama serial playing a lot of different roles in their career but some of these actors are being seen in the most unusual and challenging roles of their career. Adnan Siddiqui is one such actor who is very often seen playing roles different from that of Rashid yet he nailed every single expression especially in tonight’s episode and I have to say that for me he was the star of the show tonight. I love the way the writer is showing the gradual development in his character, the reasons behind this change are also very convincing and logical. Madiha Rizvi is another actress who is more often seen playing important supporting roles but she always gives every role her best and this time around too she has done complete justice to her character. Even the child actor playing the chota chaudhry impresses you with his acting every time.

Sammi Episode 15 Review - Intense & Meaningful

Like every other episode of Sammi, this one too covered all the tracks in the story flawlessly. I really appreciate the fact that Sammi’s content has substance and there is substantial development in every episode. Sammi’s mother’s conscience did not allow her to let Waqas kill her. This went to show that while she was okay with giving Sammi away as vanni, she could not see her getting killed like that. Zarina also for the first time questioned the way her son was being treated and decided to draw a line! The way she looked at Salima suggested that whatever she was planning involved Salima as well, I am waiting to find out what her plan is. Gradually all these people who have slave mentality are questioning the way things are whether it is Rashid, Zarina or even Sammi’s mother.

Rehan Sheikh was absolutely remarkable as the Chaudhry who cannot get enough of belittling people and torturing them mentally. His character is etched-out flawlessly and he has owned it completely right from the get go. His dialogues clearly highlight the mentality of all such people who think they own other human beings and are so convinced that they are invincible. Although Chaudhrani is seen giving other people lectures on morality, the truth is that she is just as selfish as the Chaudhry. She is always looking out for her own interests and although a strong woman like her could do a lot more with all her wisdom especially because she knows the difference between right and wrong she is another person who is part of this system. I am waiting to see if her character will also go in a different direction in the upcoming episodes. Right now she is trying to instigate Rashid to kill Chaudhry.

Naheed’s track took another interesting and meaningful turn with this episode. I particularly liked her conversation with the doctor because it also had a strong message. The part about announcing the nikkah and keeping the copy of the nikkah nama was once again a message which was put forward in a subtle yet impactful manner.

Chandni’s scene was intense, now that she is all alone and she knows she is partially responsible for her son’s death, will she help Sammi in some way in the future or is this going to be the end of her track? I am waiting to find out.

Although this entire episode was intense and impactful but the last scene was the best! Loved the way it was directed and Adnan Siddiqui’s expressions were faultless. The preview of the next episode suggested that there might be hope for Sammi after all. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Sammi Episode 14 Review – Brilliant!

Sammi is turning out to be one of those very few dramas which get better with every passing episode. All the tracks in the story were once again beautifully covered in detail and there were some surprises in store for the viewers too. What I absolutely love about this play is that there are times when I want the story to take a certain turn but the actual twist in the story is contrary to my expectations yet it turns out to be even more meaningful and has a bigger impact. For instance, I wanted and expected  Chandni’s character to play the role of an anti-hero probably because Sania Saeed is playing the role and she hardly ever chooses to play a negative role but what we saw today was Karma. Chandni thought that if she planned everything perfectly, her son will be back and Sammi will be gone forever. She did not pause to think what might happen to Sammi when her brother finds her but she made sure that Waqas knew that he should not kill Salar. It was a perfect plan but she learned the hard way that you cannot control everything. Up till the point when Chandni was pressurizing Salar to leave Sammi, she was just being selfish but when she told Waqas about Sammi’s whereabouts and did not try to save her, she was being cruel and was an accomplice to this crime. It went to show that it wasn’t just people like Chaudhry and Waqas who think they could treat people any way they want as long as it suits their needs but even someone like Chandni who knows better would become party to something like this if it suited her. Salar’s death came as a complete surprise, I did not see that coming at all but it definitely had more of an impact on me and gave out a very powerful message.

Naheed’s track also took an interesting turn, I call it interesting and not tragic just yet because we are not sure whether Ghulam Rasool was the one who signed those divorce papers and also because Aalyan is not as helpless as Salar, he is a very solid support who is continuously reminding his father that he does not own Naheed. I absolutely love the way the writer has logically conveyed some very important and relevant messages to the viewers. Every time Naheed’s brother tries to give a wrong meaning to Naheed and Ghulam Rasool’s relationship, Aalyan steps in and explains the obvious. I am certain there are many brothers, fathers and husbands out there who must get uncomfortable while watching this show because there are many houses even in the most modern cities which are male dominated. Even if a woman is earning and is responsible enough to look after herself, men still think they know better.

The director Saife Hassan deserves tons of credit for his skillful direction. The scene in which Waqas entered the house and searched for Sammi was brilliantly directed. Also, when he was tying Sammi to the tree, the whole scenario was shown very realistically. The mob, people who were more interested in making videos than saving the girl and a brother who was so sure that he was doing the right thing, all of these aspects were covered flawlessly.

Adnan Siddiqui is brilliant as Rashid, there are times when I truly feel for him. Rashid’s character is interesting because he is free to go wherever he wants and he can easily live a life different from this one but his mind is imprisoned. One can easily see why he cannot think freely and change his life for good; his mother always tells him that he is Chaudhry’s naukar, Chaudhry treats him like a dog because he feels that he is a paltu kutta and in between all these people and the system, he has lost his identity. The preview of the next episode was superb, I don’t want to make any predictions but I hope that Rashid turns against Chaudhry and realizes that he is capable of being a much better person.

This had to be one of my most favorite episodes of Sammi. It is always great watching a play which is brilliantly written and executed superbly. There are no loop holes whatsoever in the script and the messages are right on point. It is not an easy task to handle so many tracks but the Sammi team managed to get the work done flawlessly. There have been no filler episodes so far and the story is interesting and unpredictable. This drama also has some amazing performances to its credit. Bilal Khan has definitely given me a reason to tune into his next drama, he couldn’t have picked a better character and team for his debut drama. You expect actors like Rehan Sheikh, Adnan Siddiqui, Madiha Rizvi and Sania Saeed to deliver because they know their craft only too well but it is especially wonderful to watch actors like Haris Waheed and Ahad Raza Mir making their presence felt in roles which are very challenging. Also, Malik Raza has yet again proven his versatility by nailing another difficult role.

Can’t wait to watch the next episode of Sammi! Please share your thoughts about this episode.

Sammi Episode 13 Review – Well-Paced

This episode had quite a few important developments to its credit and it had a lot of scenes which were deep and meaningful. For the first time the viewers saw Sammi as a strong woman who was there for someone else for a change even though it is very difficult for someone in her position to see beyond her own problems. These scenes in which Sammi asked Salar to go back to his mother and later on was there for him when he was upset also showed that Sammi had accepted her fate, she knew she will be taken away at some point and no one will be able to help her then. The fact that Sammi does not want Salar to save her shows that she is strong enough to face whatever is coming her way alone. Since this drama is titled Sammi therefore the viewers automatically expected Sammi’s character and story to be the central part of the drama but I have to say that at this point all the tracks are equally important. All the female characters in the drama are equally interesting and each one of them is fighting their own battle. Mawra Hocane still does not look or speak like someone who has lived in a remote village. She has an innocent face which makes you feel for Sammi, otherwise the whole get-up could have been far better. Ahad Raza Mir is a powerful actor but his hairstyle is terribly distracting.

Salima’s reaction was surprising but easy to connect to!! Salima felt threatened and the only way for her to feel “secure” was to get pregnant again hoping this time she will have a son. All those lies she told Rashid about how she told Naheed off and the way she flirted with him showed this was her way of showing that she was in control! At the end of the day, she is putting her life in danger in order to please her husband. Saman Ansari has nailed her character as Salima right from the get-go. Adnan Siddiqui’s outlook and acting both are brilliant. Seemi Raheel is also doing a fabulous job, her performance in the scene in which her character was begging the chaudhry to forgive her son was remarkable. I have to say however that chaudhry barks more than he bites! He beat Rashid up but then he sent him back home, it would have been so much better if he kept him there and made him suffer. Chaudhry seems like a ruthless man and people like him don’t think a lot before killing someone. Madiha Rizvi’s character has to be one of my most favorite characters because she is the only woman in this drama who actually does something to take control even when the odds are against her.

Sammi Episode 13 Review - Well-Paced

Naheed’s track took an interesting turn with this episode and the best thing about this track was Aalyan taking a stand for Naheed. Although Naheed is educated and she has a job but her brother wants her to live her life according to the rules made by him. I would love to see her living life on her terms and conditions. Naheed’s character is another one which is brilliantly etched-out and Nadia Afghan is doing complete justice to it. I also really like Bilal Khan’s performance in the play, whoever chose him to play with role made a very wise choice.

Chote Chaudhry’s dialogues are always amusing and they also carry a very strong message. He says only what he has been taught by his father and what he has learned by watching everything that happens around him. For him, the world is divided between two kinds of people; people who are rich and those who are poor. The rich of course rule the poor and they are superior in every way possible. No wonder such children grow up to be Chaudhrys who exploit the poor and can’t even feel for them the way one human would for another. The writer has used chote chaudhry’s character effectively to give some very important messages and to make people understand where this mindset comes from.

Chandni continued to be insecure and stubborn in this episode but I have a feeling that her character will take a surprising turn in the upcoming episodes. Haris Waheed is another actor who is bound to make it big in the industry because his entire focus is on his performance and he has proved himself as a versatile actor. There are very few actors who start their careers with roles which have tons of room for performance. The preview of the next episode was exciting, looking forward to how the story unfolds from here on.

Sammi Episode 12 Review – Surprise!

The story moved forward considerably in this episode and the developments in tonight’s episode proved that Sammi’s story has some interesting and unexpected twists in store for the viewers. I am all for promos which are misleading and the preview of this episode was just that! Although most of the times it is easy to tell what way an important development in the story will go by looking at the promo of an episode but that was most certainly not the case here. I loved the surprise element and anyone who has not watched this episode yet should not read the review right now because it will surely spoil the surprise.

Sammi’s refusal came as a very pleasant surprise and honestly speaking I heaved a sigh of relief when Sammi’s headshake took this track to a completely different direction. Sammi insisted she wanted to go home even though she knew she will be killed when she goes there. Apart from Mawra Hocane’s overall look which is a little too polished for a girl like her, everything else about Sammi’s character is right on point. Although people who claimed to love her once have betrayed her in the worst possible way but even now for her home is where her family is. Anyone who is in Sammi’s situation would have a difficult time trying to convince themselves that they are not only completely alone but also that people they spent all of their life with want to kill them for no reason! Sammi feels lost in this new city and she knows that getting married to Salar will not end her misery. I think the only reason why Salar “loves” Sammi is that he feels the need to protect her and that could be because he saw his mother struggling while he was growing up. Salar’s advices to Sammi were spot on and I was hoping she will eventually turn to the media for help. I am waiting to see how Sammi’s track progresses forward from here on.

Sammi Episode 12 Review - Surprise!

I wanted to see Chandni as Sammi’s mentor, someone who helped her get independent but Chandni’s character has taken a very different turn. Given the circumstances, I must say that Chandni’s reaction isn’t surprising at all. She is looking out for her own self and she does not feel the need to protect a girl she barely knows. She only called her contact and asked him to tell Sammi’s brother where she was because she could see that her son was not listening to her at all. She was never shown as a social worker but as someone who was very practical and bossy therefore her reaction was in line with her character. Salar is the only family she has and she is not going to let Sammi take that from her. I enjoyed Sania Saeed’s performance a lot in this episode. I love how her tone and expressions change when she is on the phone with someone. She makes sure that the person on the other side has no idea what her actual state of mind is!

Salima got a chance to spend some “quality” time with her husband, she also felt sorry for him because he was bed-ridden and she decided to be flexible. I really liked the way she found out who Rashid’s mother was planning to get him married to. Naheed had no idea what Salima was talking about and she ended up telling her the truth. Saman Ansari and Nadia Afghan both are powerful performers, I always look forward to their shows.

Ama Zarina’s conversation with the Chaudhrani and the constant threats from her effect the Chaudhrani even though she tells her off every time. The scene in which Ama Zarina is making future plans for his son while Naheed checked him was amusing. Now that she has found the perfect girl for Rashid she isn’t dreaming of one son but she wants more!

Sammi is turning out to be an interesting play; the variety of characters and the multiple tracks in the story make it engaging. The preview of the next episode was brilliant, I am dying to find out what will happen to Naheed and Sammi both. I am also wondering if Chandni will have a change of heart. Really looking forward to the next episode.

Sammi Episode 11 Review – Empowering Women

I love the fact that the writer is constantly reinforcing the fact that it is absolutely unacceptable to force a woman into a nikkah. This is one of those messages which is rarely put forward in our dramas although almost all Pakistani dramas focus on marital issues. I also appreciate the fact that this drama has absolutely no glamour in it and the team has relied solely on quality content to attract the viewers. The opening scene of this episode highlighted the issue of the consent of a woman at the time of nikkah in a subtle manner, Aalyan’s reaction showed how wrong it was to get a girl married without her consent. Later on Salar’s discussion with his mother regarding Sammi’s “status” also emphasized the importance of a woman’s consent at the time of nikkah. This is a relevant and powerful message which is the need of the hour since it is very common in our society for the guardians and parents to decide a girl’s fate regarding marriage and an “obedient” girl is one who quietly agrees. The fact that Islam has given women the right to decide whether they want to enter into a nikkah or not goes to show how empowered women truly are and they have more of a say regarding their personal affairs than their family members. After watching the previous episode of Sammi and this one, the meaning of “qabool hai” at the time of nikkah has completely changed for me.

Salima finally put her foot down in this episode and there wasn’t much Rashid could do about it. The clarity in dialogues definitely helps the viewers understand why women need to take control of their bodies and why husbands do not have the right to force their wives to bear children at the expense of their lives. It was shocking watching Rashid considering this option to please his mother. The scene in which Naheed saw Rashid’s picture and her tone changed completely was one of the best scenes in tonight’s episode.

Sammi Episode 11 Review - Empowering Women

Chandni’s state of mind was also highlighted through her conversations with her son. Once again her dialogues stated in a loud and clear manner what was going through her mind. She is justified in feeling insecure and there is a good reason why she cannot “share” her son with Sammi but even then the fact is that Salar isn’t doing anything wrong. I had no trouble connecting to Salar’s character today, he feels for Sammi and he wants to save her. Salar does not understand his mother’s mindset because in his view he is doing nothing wrong. For Chandni this is betrayal but Salar feels that his mother is being unfair to Sammi. Sania Saeed is beyond brilliant as Chandni, just watching her perform is a treat. Ahad Raza Mir has also given a steady performance especially given the fact that this is his first play. His acting is always natural and effortless.

Chaudhry’s son’s conversation with his new master was very amusing. It once again showed how little this kid had actually learned in school and how twisted his idea of a learned person was. Chaudhry finally suspects Rashid and the preview of the next episode shows that the Chaudhrani isn’t going to sit back and let Rashid’s mother dictate to her. I find the way power is distributed in the Chaudhry household quite interesting!

Ghulam Rasool and Naheed’s scene was one of the most meaningful scenes in this episode which showed how difficult it was for someone like Ghulam Rasool to accept the fact that there was finally someone in his life who had accepted him wholeheartedly for who he was. His insecurities were valid and the way Naheed understood and reassured him was very touching. These two are the perfect match, two people who truly complete each other but it remains to be seen what how their track develops in the upcoming episodes. Naheed’s brother will find out about this nikkah at some point and when that happens all hell will break loose. Nadia Afghan and the actor playing the role of Ghulam Rasool have breathed life into their respective characters. The fact that these characters and the circumstances they are in have been penned down brilliantly definitely helps. Alone Naheed and Ghulam Rasool both are weak people but together they are strong and can dream about a future which wouldn’t have been possible if they did not get married. This dreaming about the future part however right now is more of an escape than anything else. Personally, I find their track quite endearing.

Overall, this was another interesting episode of Sammi with a lot of powerful messages. I have to admit though that right now Naheed, Salima and even Chandni have more of a screen presence than Sammi. Once Sammi gets married to Salar then she will have endless opportunities but right now I am looking forward to watching how Chandni reacts to Sammi and Salar’s nikkah more than anything else. The preview of the next episode completely killed the surprise factor because it showed Salar telling his mother that he and Sammi had entered into a nikkah.

Sammi has a well-thought-out script which is not only engaging but it also serves a greater purpose. I also appreciate the fact that due to the locations and the get-ups the drama has a very real feel to it. It is always great watching actors and directors step out of their comfort zones to make these dramas more realistic. Thank you for that!

Sammi Episode 10 Review – Well-Executed

This was another impressive episode of Sammi which showed many different ways in which people are treated like commodities and they are deprived of their basic rights – the most basic right being the right to life and the right to freedom of action. Although this episode had tons of powerful messages which were put forward in a very subtle manner but my most favorite part was the one which covered the importance of a woman’s consent at the time of nikkah. We have seen many dramas in which women were forced into a nikkah most often by men who abducted these girls but not once did anyone mention that such a nikkah was not valid in the eyes of Allah. It was definitely something that needed to be highlighted, everything that the maulana sahab said in tonight’s episode was loud and clear and his refusal to be part of a nikkah in which a girl wasn’t willing to enter was my favorite part! I love how the writer in different ways keeps on highlighting the fact that Islam has given women a lot of rights. Salima’s dialogues that Allah was as much hers as He was Rashid’s was right on point! In the previous episode Naheed went to get a fatwa from the maulana sahab and whatever she found out clearly showed that she had a right over her parents’ property as well. I am glad that the writer reached out to the people by involving religion in this debate.

All the tracks are getting more interesting with every passing episode. Naheed’s nikkah was also an important development in this episode. Her conversation with Ghulam Rasool after they got married was so meaningful. They had done nothing wrong yet Ghulam Rasool was still insecure because someone who had been rejected all his life had a difficult time believing that for once he was accepted by someone. Also, the question he asked when Naheed said they would have children highlighted his own fears. Naheed and Ghulam Rasool’s relationship has to be one of the most perfect unions in this drama yet they have to hide their relationship. I never thought I would find myself rooting for an on screen couple like this one but here I am wishing and hoping that both of them get to live a happy life together in the end even if it means running away and starting a new life in a different city. Their dreams are legitimate but Naheed’s brother would much rather marry her off to someone who he can benefit from in some way too. Nadia Afghan is a personal favorite, she is one of those very few actors who can do comedy and serious roles both. I also like the actor who is playing Ghulam Rasool’s role, he is doing complete justice to the role assigned to him. The credit for this goes to the director as well and also the person who chose the cast. It is always good to see new actors in dramas who perform well.

Sammi Episode 10 Review - Well-Executed

Rashid and Salima’s track once again showed how Salima kept on trying to make Rashid understand that she could not bear any more of his children and Rashid’s frame of mind was also translated on screen brilliantly through his thought process. He wants a son only to please his mother! Rashid’s character is very interesting, he comes across as a person who might have a mind of his own but his sole purpose in life is to please the Chaudhris and his mother. He loves Salima but until she gives him a son they cannot have a normal relationship! Adnan Siddiqui has portrayed all the shades of his character impeccably on screen; his get up and acting both are perfect. I truly appreciate the fact that Saman Ansari is always experimenting with different roles which are never run-of-the-mill and she also has a very unique acting style.

Sammi and Chandni did not have a lot of scenes in this episode but the opening scene pretty much summed up Chandni’s state of mind and later on Salar’s proposal proved to be the final nail in the coffin. The opening scene was directed and acted out brilliantly. I absolutely love Sania Saeed in this role. Chandni has always made sure that Sammi stays within her limits and now that she can see that her son is showing interest in this girl, she wants to tell Salar and Sammi both that they come from two different worlds. She especially wants Sammi to know her “aukat”.

This episode ended with Rashid asking his mother for another “chance”! The preview of the next episode showed Chandni kicking Sammi out of her house and Rashid finally finding out where Sammi is. Haris Waheed is another actor who has always made his presence felt because of his realistic portrayals, I remember he was very convincing in Alvida and here he is playing a completely different role yet he seems to pull it off almost effortlessly. I am waiting to see how the story unfolds in the next episode. All the tracks are interlinked at this point and all of them are equally interesting. Sammi has a very intricate, gripping and meaningful script which so far has been translated on screen impressively too. We need dramas like this one to keep on reminding us that there are people out there who don’t even get the opportunity to fight for things which many of us take for granted.

Am I the only one who missed Chaudhry Nawaz in this episode? How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Sammi Episode 1 Review – Slaves To The System

Sammi promises to be another drama which will not only focus on some of the customs followed by people in remote villages through which they exploit women but it is also going to be the story of a survivor. Many of the viewers like myself who live in a world completely different from that of Sammis of this country very often find it hard to believe that even in this day and age there are traditions such as that of Vani in which young girls are used to settle family feuds so that the men of their families won’t have to bear the repercussions of their actions. Dramas like these serve as a reality check and help greatly in bringing these stories to light. They cause awareness and give rise to empathy in general public and even those people who do not tune into news channels often or read newspapers in detail get to know about the kind of life some people are forced to lead in these villages. Women are exploited in different ways all around the globe but what we watched in tonight’s episode went to show that women like Sammi do not have an identity. Their men are their “maalik” and they make all the decisions for them. The message in tonight’s episode was loud and clear. The clarity in the script and the manner in which it was executed was the highlight of this episode. The writer and the director made sure that even those viewers like myself who were not very sure what to expect from this drama knew exactly what the Sammi team had in store for them.

The issue of Vani was highlighted once before too in drama serial Numm but the hodge-podge script turned it into a weird love triangle and there was very little focus on the actual topic. This first episode of Sammi however gave a decent introduction to how a girl like Sammi (Mawra Hocane) who had a seemingly perfect relationship with her brother Waqas (Haris Waheed) was give away as Vani because that was the only way for her brother to escape punishment. Chaudhry Rab Nawaz’s (Rehan Sheikh) decision to settle this dispute in a jirga was also an interesting insight into why these cases never make it to the court. He did not let Fazal (Noor-ul-Hassan) go to the police because he considered it an insult! This was a perfect example of the fact that how a handful of ignorant and greedy people can ruin the entire system. Waqas and Riaz Jutt (Irfan Khoosat) were the only two people responsible for Pervaiz’s murder but in the end Sammi was the only one who had to pay for it. I liked the way Waqas tried to talk his father out of asking Pervaiz for the haq mehr but later on went ahead and did something terrible only because he had a big ego. It went to show that even those people who do not necessarily accept such a system end up becoming a part of it. Fazal also did not want to accept Sammi as Vani but he was left with no choice because that was the only way he could continue being part of the baradari.

Sammi Episode 1 Review - Slaves To The System

Sammi it seems is going to focus on Vani and baradari system and what kind of a role this system plays in such villages. Sammi wasn’t the only victim in this episode Pervaiz and his parents too suffered due to the mentality of all those people who cannot see beyond power and monetary gains. Sammi has a brilliant cast, all of these wonderful actors know exactly what is expected of them. It also has a brilliant writer and an extremely creative director therefore the expectations attached to this play are huge. We need more dramas which don’t just entertain but serve a bigger purpose and I hope that Sammi will succeed in doing so. This first episode was well-executed and gave the drama a decent beginning.

While everyone else changed their outlooks to fit the role and the entire set up was perfect but Mawra Hocane’s short shirts and patiala shalwars as well her fairly decent make-up and her accent made her look like an outsider. It would have been good if she took some inspiration from Urwa Hocane who did her best to look like someone who was raised in a village in drama serial Udaari. We have seen Mawra Hocane sporting this look in so many other dramas even though her roles in those dramas were completely different from this one. Sammi’s character would have been easier to connect to if she looked like someone who was raised in a remote village.

Overall, this was a happening episode of Sammi which would have been even more enticing if the promos of the play wouldn’t have been so detailed. The surprise factor was completely taken away because of the promos. Even then, the manner in which Sammi went from being a happy bride-to-be to a Vanni was shown convincingly. It was definitely the kind of episode which gives you a reason to look forward to more.

Samiya Mumtaz Talks About Meri Zaat Zarra e Benishan’s Success

0

Samiya Mumtaz is counted among the most talented and sophisticated actors in the Pakistani drama industry. She works very selectively and the scripts she choose always go out to become big hits and not only because they have unnecessary drama but because they are very unique and fresh. Samira Fazal In Trouble For “Stealing” A Story

0

Until now Pakistanis dramas have only received unprecedented appreciation from the Indians but now it looks like things are about to take an ugly turn. Mera Naseeb, which was a big hit in Pakistan because of its crisp story and sharp direction is now being aired on the Zindagi Channel in India.

Many of the viewers in Pakistan have been saying it over and over again too that this was not an original story but Samira Fazal’s drama Mera Naseeb was based on a story written originally by an Indian writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, this story was titled “Sister Of My Heart”. Until now, many people had a hard time believing that a writer like Samira Fazal will copy someone’s work without asking that person first even though it was mentioned in the credits of the drama that it was an adaptation.

The writer of the original story has spoken up against what happened and she intends to do everything in her power to seek justice.

Here is the status update of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni:

Samina Peerzada’s Educated Reply To Sarah Khan & Saima Qureshi

Samina Peerzada is a talented and learned actress, director and producer. She is an artist who has always spoken with dignity and her statements make sense. She is open about her political thoughts and she has always spoken for promoting arts and culture in the country. She is a part of the Peerzada family who have always been very artistic and did a lot for the promotion of culture in the country. She is making her acting comeback after Balaa with the film Deemak and her fans are excited. She sat for an interview with Aamna Haider Isani and spoke about the industry, her career and her thoughts on relationships and women supporting women.

Samina Peerzada’s Educated Reply To Sarah Khan & Saima Qureshi

Recently we have seen actresses speaking on women issues and feminism in a very different tone. Saima Qureshi at first said that a woman’s money which she earns for her household is not blessed. The statement caused quite a stir. Then came Sarah Khan’s recent statement that she is not a feminist. She cannot stand in line to pay her bills and she wants her husband to do that for her. Samina Peerzada has now spoken about these issues in a great way and this is how it should be done and understood.

Samina Peerzada’s Educated Reply To Sarah Khan & Saima Qureshi

Samina Peerzada said that there should be chivalry from a man’s side. The paying of bills, the opening of doors is all very important. But that reflects on a man’s character and not on a woman’s and this is what needs to be understood. She said that if she has to open a door, she will open it but when a man does it, the first thing that comes to her mind is how that man’s mother has trained him to respect women. It reflects on his character and upbringing. She also added that a woman’s money not being blessed is also a farce. She has contributed a lot to her daughter’s education while her husband built them a house. They both respected each other’s contributions and built a life together.

Samina Peerzada’s Educated Reply To Sarah Khan & Saima Qureshi

This is what she said:

Samina Peerzada also spoke about how they shared responsibilities in their lives. She shared that she has never made a face if Usman wanted to help his family. She will also actively help him and his family. Similarly, Usman Peerzada has always supported their family, her and he played his part in taking care of Samina’s mother. He was loved deeply by Samina’s mom and Samina Peerzada was loved by Usaman’s mother and this is how a marriage should be with support and love for family.

Samina Peerzada To Represent Pakistan In Norway

Samina Peerzada is a veteran actress who breathes life into every character that she portrays. All her performances are flawless, but my favourite is her portrayal of Durr-e-Shahwar.

She is invited as the guest of honour to the opening event of the National Library of Norway’s exhibition exploring Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’ , which happens to be the world’s most performed theatre play.

She will inaugurate the exhibition on June 9. The people at National Library are pleased to welcome her, “It is a great pleasure for us to welcome Samina Peerzada to the National Library of Norway. Mrs Peerzada has visited Oslo twice before, when she performed at The International Ibsen Festival in 1994. The Norwegian audience will be thrilled to see her back in Norway, says Head of programming Eline Skaar Kleven”.

She is the finest actress of the industry, and without a doubt, this is no small feat. More power to her!

Samina Peerzada to play the role of Indira Gandhi

Renown artist Samina Peerzada will appear in the role of Indira Gandhi former Indian Prime Minister in an upcoming drama. As per press reports Samina is performing the said role in a drama named Trial which is currently being shot in Lahore. In past three decades Samina has performed many memorable roles as heroine as well as in supporting cast. However it is the first time that Samina is playing the role of some historical figure like Indira Gandhi.

Late Indira Gandhi was prime minister of India. In 1971, she played a pivotal role in conspiring against Pakistan to create the state of Bangladesh. Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her sikh body guards in 1984 after brutal massacre of thousands of sikhs at the sikh holy site of Golden Temple, Amritsar, India on her orders.

Samina Didn’t Find Usman Peerzada Marriage Material

All big stars from Mahira Khan to Atif Aslam really do speak their heart out when they are on Sameena’s show. Why won’t they? She makes them feel so comfortable and at home that it looks like there is no camera recording and they are just being themselves. This time Sanam Baloch invited Samina to her show and Samina shared some unknown secrets about her childhood, love life and professional life.

Samina Didn't Find Usman Peerzada Marriage Material

Her husband had appeared in her show once and they had revealed that Sameena proposed him but Sanam dived a little more into the details. She asked Sameena again how they got married? To which Samina replied that once she was dropping her cousin to her college and Osman had come there too. She said she like him because he was wearing all black and she loves the color. But what will shock you is the fact that she did not find him to be marriage material.

Samina Didn't Find Usman Peerzada Marriage Material

She said it was only her second meeting when she decided that she could marry him and also proposed. Usman had come to her plucking flowers for her when she invited him for a coffee. She had said that she would marry him but after six years because she wanted to do CA and research in marketing. Well, that could not go as planned and right after two years of their meeting, they got married in 1975. It’s straight out of a book love story, we must say.
