Pakistani films which were just getting up got the worst of hit and the film industry was shut again. five films came out last Eid ul Fitr and their performance was not great on the box office but two big films Quaid e Azam Zindabad and London Nahi Jaunga did great and the film industry is back. Pakistani dramas are where the stardom has been for the country as our film industry was a disaster for many years. But with the gradual revival we are seeing films getting successful now. Stars from our television majorly shifted to films and some of them are now exclusively doing films. Fahad Mustafa in particular is only doing films while other film stars like Humayun Saeed, Mahira Khan and Mehwish Hayat have done projects for the small screen.

Mere Humsafar is a popular Pakistani drama which aired on Ary Digital and gained a good viewership and success. The drama has been written by Saira Raza. It has been directed by Qasim Ali Mureed and produced by Samina Humayun Saeed and Sana Shahnawaz.

The story of drama revolved around the miserable life of innocent Hala whose father left her at his brothers’ house. Afterwards, Hala was tortured by her elders at home. Nimra Ali is a talented girl who became an overnight sensation with her positive energy. Nimra received fame after her video clip went viral on social media in which she expressed her excitement over being featured in an interview airing on television screen.

Lately, Nimra Ali in an interview with “Pehchano Pakistan” revealed the struggles of her life before she became famous. “We used to live in a rented house which only had one room. Now I have purchased my own house with my earning but we still live in our rented house because we are emotionally attached with that place. We were five people all together who used to share that one room”, added Nimra.

“My life changed a lot after becoming famous as before that we never used to go in restaurant, even I didn’t have a mobile phone before getting famous. After I became famous I started my first job in a private channel. They used to give me 15k salary from which I bought my first mobile phone”, added Nimra.

“My family faced a lot of difficulties as my father faced some financial issues during his life. My mother used to tell us that there was a time when they didn’t even had food to eat. After my father’s death I had a dream to financially support my family and God helped me to fulfil my dream” said Nimra.

Nasir Adeeb is a brilliant Pakistani scriptwriter. He is popularly known for writing Punjabi films for Lollywood. He holds a record of writing maximum number of film scripts till date. He wrote many novels as well, in 1979, he wrote Maula Jatt. Nasir Adeeb says that he wrote Maula Jatt against the system and that’s why it became massive hit and narrative is hit till the date. The film had a stellar cast of that time which included Mustafa Qureshi & Sultan Rahi.

Nasir Adeeb recently appeared in The Super Over with Ahmed Ali Butt, in which he disclosed about the amount he demanded for Maula Jatt, on a question, “What amount did you demand from Sarwar Bhatti for Maula Jut?”, Nasir Adeeb revealed that he got approximately 7 thousand rupees (in 1979) for original block buster Maula Jut.

Ahmed Ali But then asked, “And how much did you demand from Bilal Lashari?” To which Nasir Adeeb said, “I demanded 10 lacs from Bilal Lashari but he gave me 15 lac rupees for writing the script of The legends of Maula Jatt”. Noman Habib made his debut in the industry with hit drama Ye Zindagi Hai. He started acting at a very young age, he was only 16 or 17 when he debuted. Noman then went on to join a dance reality show which he won. As he was already acting and then showed talent in dancing, Noman Habib was cast by Humayun Saeed in his film Main Shahid Afridi Hoon as Shahid. He then did a classic drama Bunty I Love You with none other than Saba Qamar Zaman.

Noman Habib has been working in dramas regularly since and he has not looked back. He was a guest on Tabish Hashmi’s Hasna Mana Hai with his wife Asma Noman where she revealed who is her husband’s favourite actress, Asma said that Noman is a huge fan of Saba Qamar who is his old co-star.

Asma also added that he loves Saba Qamar so much that he would have proposed her if she did not marry him. As Tabish joked that may be Saba had said no to the proposal, Asma Noman said that her husband is a gem and anyone would have said yes to him.

Mere Humnasheen was a drama with a huge cast and a different storyline than we see normally on our screens. We saw our female protagonist fighting for her right to study and male characters with dignity and determination, both genders working towards some goal and not merely existing to have a love story.

The drama directed by Ali Faizan and starring Hiba Bukhari, Shahzad Sheikh, Syed Jibran and Ahsan Khan initially got a lot of flak as the Pashto accents in the drama got heavily criticized. People said that the Pashtuns do not sound like that and the accents sounded artificial and bad. Syed Jibran who is a Pashtun in real life was good at the accent and the others were exaggerating it.

The director of the drama Ali Faizan has defended the accents. He said that obviously classes can be arranged and things can be better but it is discouraging for makers when people criticize a new addition in the drama. He also added that when you are showing a certain community to people, there needs to be accents of those areas. Ali Faizan said that may be people who were criticizing did not speak that way and people from some other area would.

This is what the director had to say about exaggerated accents:

Sang e Mah carved a space among the audience with its beautiful and poetic story telling, characters that were not black or white but grey and a beautiful background score. One thing that was going for Sang e Mah from day one was a very strong cast. Nouman Ijaz, Samiya Mumtaz, Sania Saeed, Omair Rana and Hassan Nouman in one drama were a testament to strong performances but casting a singer Atif Aslam as Hilmand which was a strong role was obviously a big risk.

But Atif Aslam came prepared and took the opportunity head on. He got under the skin of Hilmand and mesmerized the audience with the very first scene of his. Most of the actor’s work was with none other than the legendary Nouman Ijaz and the scenes were really intense.

Atif Aslam however, surprised everyone and performed head to head with Nouman Ijaz. He was praised for all his scenes and people were comparing his portrayal of Hilmand to Nouman Ijaz’s portrayal of Haji Marjan as both were equally strong and powerful. Atif Aslam reacted to the comparison in his recent interview with Something Haute. He said that the comparison made him realize that he has really done something great.

Lately, Juggun Kazim in an interview with “Momina’s Mixed Plate” revealed her unusual tongue piercing story. “What actually happened was, I went to Canada at the age of 17 for higher studies. You know that you try to fit in with everyone and you do all the mad things others are doing just to make a bond with them. As I was living in the all girls section, once the girls planned a hangout and one of the girl from the group which had a lot of piercing said that why don’t we do something crazy. We all agreed to go and get tattoo or piercing whatever one is willing to do”, said Juggun.

Juggun further added that “I also agreed and went with them. When I reached there I got a little scared that my mom will never forgive me for such act and she’ll not let me go back to Canada once I went back home, so I asked the person that which piercing will be invisible somehow. That person said me that the least invisible is tongue piercing and I agreed and got my tongue piercing done. And actually what happened was that only 2 girls did such foolish act, the one who took all of us and the other was me.”

“Later I got to know that tongue piercing has a lot of disadvantages but I kept it for 10 to 15 years. I used to have pink and black colored rod, which was not visible to anyone and a lot of people didn’t actually knew that I’ve my tongue pierced. Finally 2 years ago I took off the ring but still I have a scar on my tongue”, says Juggun.
