Marium Mukhtar was a female fighter pilot of Pakistan Air Force. She is the first woman fighter pilot in Pakistan to die in the line of duty, when a PAF jet crashed in Mianwali.

To honor Marium Mukhtar a short film Ek Thi Marium (اک تھی مریم) is being produced to be aired on Urdu 1 perhaps on upcoming defense day on 6th September 2016 or Air force Day on 7th September 2016. Actor-host Sanam Baloch is all set to make her comeback with this powerful role in this upcoming short film     .

The first teaser of this short film is released today showing Sanam as Marium, getting dressed in her Pakistan Air Force uniform.

Plane banana koi bari baat thori hai, plane urana bari baat hai …..This awe-inspiring short film summed up Marium Mukhtiar Shaheed’s inspirational story of courage and commitment in a very clear manner. Ek Thi Marium is a short film with some very strong and concise messages which were beautifully conveyed through different scenes and summed up flawlessly in the end. The opening scene of a short film or a drama says a great deal about what it has to offer. Therefore the powerful yet very subtle messages about how this passionate young lady was raised made it very clear right at the outset that this story will prove to be not only inspirational but also very emotional.

The opening scene showed that Marium was always an extraordinary girl even when she was little she liked to dream big and excelled in her school. She was fascinated by birds in the sky and wanted her name inscribed on her school uniform. Her father was her role-model and her mother was her strength. The support of her parents who always believed in her played a pivotal role in making Marium a fighter pilot. Even though Marium’s parents supported her but they also made sure that when Marium could do even better without their support, they took a backseat in her life. Marium’s relationship with her family, her reaction when she started her life as a cadet and minor details like the way she touched the jet for the first time made her character more human. There wasn’t an attempt to show Marium as a perfect human being, there was a time when she too was tempted to give up but once that phase was over Marium’s passion for flying never allowed her to pause again. Her time in the academy was covered in a very impressive manner. This short film managed to transfer me to another world which was very different from the one we live in!

Ek Thi Marium had some very strong messages which are the need of the hour. Marium’s true story has been intelligently used by the writer to send out positive messages. Lrke lrkiyo mei koi farq nahi hota aur mujhe tu meri lrkiya buhat pyari hein – this is the kind of thinking with which girls like Marium Mukhtiar are raised! Parents who have confidence in their daughters and value them allow them to grow as strong individuals who are capable of achieving something big in life, of doing something extraordinary.

Mere aur Mukhtiar ke liye tu hamari betiyan hi sona hein, bus parha likha ke unhe kundun bana dei gay – this was another apt and powerful message the significance of which was ten-fold because of the fact that this is the story of a girl who proved that parents who focus on their daughters’ education more than their dowry are the ones who raise daughters who are empowered and have high self-esteem.

Mujhe GD pilot banana hai….aur mujhe USA ka president!! – This was another meaningful scene which had a hidden message. It went to show that no dream is too big as long as you work hard to make these dreams come true. Many such scenes went to show that Marium was always gifted, she was special – the chosen one – who was destined to do something amazing.

Ab sari zindagi ghalt profession mein zayan krne se behtr nahi hai ke aik saal aap sahi profession ke liye zayan kr dein? This was another scene with yet another message for all the young people out there; follow your heart, if you know you are meant to do something else in life, give it at least one shot!

Sanam Baloch is a phenomenal actress who has always translated all of her characters on screen effortlessly. No other actress would have been able to breathe life into Marium’s character the way she did. The poignant lyrics of the OST which said a great deal about Marium’s journey and her personality added to the beauty of different scenes. The child star playing Marium also performed brilliantly. Behroze Sabzwari and Hina Bayat’s acting was equally impressive – there were times when I forgot I was watching a film because everything was so real! Ek Thi Marium also has strong supporting characters who managed to leave their mark even though some of them (like Marium’s fiancé) did not get a lot of screen time and all the actors playing these characters played their parts impeccably.

Ek Thi Marium is a remarkable short film which will give you goose bumps. It overflows with scenes and dialogues which are deep, meaningful, endearing and emotional. At a time when our dramas are not giving their female viewers a lot of positive role-models to look upto, Marium Mukhtiar’s story was truly uplifting and much needed. Also, airing this short film on the 6th of September was a very intelligent decision. This was the ideal time for showing a short film focusing on a determined girl who was very passionate about her goals for many reasons.

It has been a while since we watched something penned down by Umera Ahmed therefore it was an absolute pleasure watching a film written by her especially because it was right on point. The treatment given to this film by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat turned it into an art film. The director of photography Qasim Ali Mureed also deserves a special mention here because without him this film wouldn’t have been this perfect. It wasn’t over-dramatic and that was why the messages had more of an impact. The scene in which Marium’s jet crashes was shown very wisely. The entire team of Ek Thi Marium deserves standing ovation for a job well done. I hope that they will continue making these great films which serve a much bigger purpose.

Marium Mukhtiar Shaheed is not with us anymore but she has left a legacy which will be a source of inspiration for many girls out there. Also, we are blessed with amazing people like Marium Mukhtiar’s parents who raise daughters we are truly proud of. At the end of this short film I couldn’t help but wonder how much this beautiful, high-spirited girl would have achieved if she had lived!

Ek Thi Marium is a must-watch, I highly recommend it to everyone who has not watched it yet. Those of you who watched this beautiful inspirational short film, please do share your thoughts about it.

 Well, I saw this episode light heartedly & enjoyed it a lot. The more serious it gets the more funny it seems to me.

All the quarrels & Ruqaiyyas’ input in the arguments is making the situation really funny in the drama. No doubt they have tried to project it in a serious way but to me it seems worthy of a laugh.

The story is making a progress at a lighter pace but is still showing something new every time. Finally we saw how Ali tackled the situation by taking about parting ways permanently with Hira. I thought after such a shock Hira would realize a little but unfortunately she still is the same. Jana Malik on her own is giving a lot from her side but I have a problem with her exaggerated expressions. No doubt she has big eyes but she shouldn’t express a lot through them because it makes her look appalling.

I liked the fact that they talked about Talaq in a proper manner where haq meher was also a part of discussion. Mostly in the dramas these days we see no attention being paid to such aspects as such & they project them without any consideration for example in Madiha Maliha, Maliha got divorced but joined the office of her Brother in Law whereas in Islam & in our culture there is a certain time period prescribed called Iddat for a lady who gets divorced in which she should stay at home. But on the other hand the ‘nariyal’ rasm was something I’ve heard for the very first time & to me it seems to be inspired from Hindus because I know there are a lot of non-Islamic rasms that happen in our society during weddings but Nariyal predicting the fate of Bahu is funny. Anyhow, In this drama we’ve seen Ali not being able to give divorce to Hira because of the huge amount promised to her in the name of Haq Meher. That is the reason he has allowed her to come back to his home.

We got to see a lot of scenes of Ahsan & Ramla this time too. I still feel she is too immature to play such a role, she was fine playing a role of a student but now she has become Ahsans’ wife. But as far as her character is concerned Ramla has shown how easy it is to present your opinion in a proper manner. She seems to be someone who won’t be taking the harsh words of Ruqaiyya & would present her opinion every time needed.

Mohsin & Ahsans’ quarrel was uncalled for & in the end Ruqaiyya blamed Nadia for all of that. We finally saw Father in law once again mentioning it in front of Ahsan while convincing him to apologize to Mohsin saying if you won’t say sorry to Mohsin it will take a toll on Nadia. Finally, we have Father in law, Ahsan & his wife Ramla as well who are going to support Nadia from now on.

I know many are still saying that they don’t need such dramas but I am amused to say that each one of us follow dramas of such kind with such a plot & story. So let’s watch it with an open heart & keep the criticism aside because we still follow it anyway. :)

Well there were some developments in the story this time but still it seemed stagnant to me at some parts.

Finally what Nadia had been doing has been revealed & that too in a shocking way. I guess the panic of Hira & her mum was justified & for once I didn’t find them overreacting (ignoring the death part) because anyone would be shocked to see the daughter in law dipping amulet in the food. No doubt they ignored the ‘acchai’ part but I guess the amulets come with a huge baggage of fear, emotions & faithlessness. Nadia couldn’t put her word in for why she was doing so but for the first time I felt what happened wasn’t unnecessary, the action could’ve been a little less dramatic but a few things had to be conveyed to Nadia too.

But then again Hira & Ruqaiyya were seen taking amulets from some fake peer who states that Nadia & Ramla are scheming something horrible. This is exactly what I wrote about in my last review too. According to the authentic Hadith the women will be hell-bound because of not believing in Allah. I wish they had shown an ounce of reliability on Allah in this matter but alas! They showed what actually happens in our society in a harsh way. Whether the amulet is written to bring good to the concerned or it may be used for bad things I believe no piece of paper can hold such power & I wish people following this trend should learn and be ashamed of the gamble they do with their condition in the Hereafter when they seek help from others & find tranquillity in such meaningless papers that too for this immortal world & to fix/spoil the life which is going to end.

It was an intelligent move by the director to have Hira & Ruqaiyya exposed in front of Ahsan & Ramla who already knew of their nature but they couldn’t believe that Ruqaiyya could go so far to actually involve herself in the ‘jadu’ scene. Ahsan’s decision of leaving the house is totally right but I guess he will take some time before making a final move or will try to fix things before he materializes his decision.

I am actually kind of waiting for Hira to have a final reality check but the story at present is revolving around Nadia. No doubt they are covering the loopholes of Hira’s married life too but I want to see more of it & actually more of Hira’s serious side because for now she is in a state of oblivion & is hounding Nadia day & night whereas I feel it’s a high time she should get what she deserves too, that she focuses on her life & her wrong-doing more rather than spoiling & interfering into Mohsin & Nadia’s life. Even though she knows Ali has something going on with other girls behind her back but she is pretty normal & thinks she has nothing to worry about. At this point I feel she should mature enough in order to deal with her married life.

Ali’s girlfriend fails to impress big time. No doubt the character she is playing is obviously detestable but I guess if one is working on a TV they should work on their linguistics as well. I heard her saying ‘garantee’ & ‘parposal’ which left me in a laughter fit. No doubt the looks matter to be on the TV & you can refine them with the help of some make up artists but the dialogue delivery is the main weapon of any actor be it a side actor of a supporting one. No one can help you in the dialogue delivery or your communication skills but your own-self  I hope we get to see even more lesser of her because she is a downer & I hate seeing Ali’s scenes too probably because apart from this drama too I never saw the actor himself in some decent roles.

I kind of enjoy the fact that Ahsan & Ramla are always on the spot of action. Be it the amulet scene or Mohsin-hit-Nadia scene or Ali-abuse-Nadia scene. They always act like the police of the house & take situations in their hands. I find this couple near to reality all the time. I hope to see them more & wish they can fix everything ASAP.

Ohkay, just when I thought this drama in the beginning of the episode was getting realistic it just blew out of proportion by the end.

The support that Ahsan has promised to Ramla is something perfect & exactly what every wife wishes for. Ahsan is a perfect example of how a man can maintain balance between his mother & his wife. Plus I find the fact right that Ramla is taking stand for the things which she finds odd. At first we all thought Ali had bad intentions for Nadia but he has shown his true colors to Ramla too. His approach was the same but the answers were different. Nadia couldn’t take a stand & as she explained it to Ramla that according to her avoiding Ali was the best thing to do, but what Ramla did was something Ali never expected, which I believe was the right answer for his behaviour. I wonder where was Hira when Ali was out there appalling Ramla with his cheapness.

All the readers have been talking about why would Ruqaiyya want Nadia to sleep outside her personal room. Today we found out about her intentions too. She wants Mohsin to get married to someone else that’s why she is maintaining a distance between the couple. Nadia finally found the right person who told her about Ruqaiyya’s planning & at first when Nadia left the house of her neighbour I thought that was too much & she should’ve told her everything, but then it was spot on where Nadia goes back & tells each & everything to her neighbour whom she refers to as Khala. I still believe they could’ve used some appropriate words for the scene because giving such details was unnecessary.

The thing that shocked me the most was seeing Mohsin out there having drinks with his friends. We saw Ali doing it & I guess for Mohsin to do the same thing wasn’t necessary. It was out of the blue because all this while they have portrayed Mohsin as an obedient child & someone who’s focused on his job & his mother, so why all of a sudden such a need of drinking & stuff? I find this fact really annoying that how easily they are showing such sort of things in our dramas, no doubt they do happen but what’s the point of openly showing it how easily that people in Pakistan are prone towards drinking?

Finally Nadia & Mohsin got some time for themselves & Mohsin has confessed what he feels. They could’ve done it without showing him being drunk too. He should take a stand for his wife rather than stooping to such low level & shedding off his burden by drinking.

The drama has moved into another phase where both the sons have got married now & the wife of Ahsan is taking stands for herself & Ruqaiyya is having a hard-time. I still see many still comment that we don’t need dramas like these but we still follow such dramas, so, let’s keep our minds apart & follow such a drama which we know has a predictable plot but is somewhat based on the reality too. :)

Before the start of the drama & as seen from the promos it could be easily deduced that ETLHS focuses on a middle class family facing a roller-coaster ride of emotions such as hatred, misunderstandings, jealousy where only one person is the backbone acting as an instigator & that is Ruqaiyya (Saba Hameed)

The family of Ruqaiyya includes her husband, 2 sons Mohsin, Ahsan & a daughter Hira. As we go through the drama we see that Ruqaiyya is an uncourteous woman who only & solely respects her son Mohsin because he is the bread-winner of the family. Ruqiayya having the only daughter Hira has spoiled her to bits & Hira has a hard core materialistic approach towards life because she has been brought up that way because of her mother. The only soft-hearted members of the family are the Father & the youngest son Ahsan. Ahsan plays a role of a rational person where he always stands up against his mother when he finds her wrong. Father being a pension holder has no respect in the eyes of Ruqaiyya because of the obvious reasons. Mohsin is an obedient child where his only mistake is overlooking the irrational & unfair behaviour of his mother.

Hira on her own proposes her cousin, legally becomes his wife by having a Nikkah ceremony just because the cousin starts earning a good amount of money. She later backtracks when she meets this new neighbour Ali who buys a house in their neighbourhood. She gets attracted towards him seeing how good his lifestyle & in literal sense; his salary is. She takes divorce from her first husband & gets married to Ali with the complete support of her family especially her mother thinking she will be happy because of Ali’s salary.

Mohsin during the wedding of his sister develops an interest in his paternal cousin Nadia, who is a very simple girl & the only child of her parents. Her mother treats her life princess & she has no father. Mohsin takes a stand to get married to her whereas Ruqaiyya opposes it for the main reason that she will be sharing his salary if she becomes his wife.

We are now seeing the cruel side of Ruqaiyya after she has become a mother in law where she is treating Nadia as an unwanted person & a life-time maid. Not only she treats Nadia badly but with no respect as if she is not the daughter in law of the house but some person who doesn’t deserve respect. Mohsin, her husband can not utter a word in front of his mother & has taken a back-seat to escape all the mayhem. The drama is entering a new phase where Ruqaiyya will soon enough face the first hardship of her life because of her daughter whose husband Ali seems to have been involved in an extra marital affair.

As a viewer of this drama I find every actor doing justice to their characters. Saba Hameed may seem like someone who’s repeating her role but for sure deserves a round of applause for her commendable job in this serial too. All the other characters have their own personalities which make the drama seem more interesting. It may have a predictable plot but the way it has been executed marvels in its own. The content of the drama to many seem to have been put in a strong manner & a bit overboard but unfortunately it depicts the reality & what most of the women in our society face at one point of their lives which makes it relate-able.

It is going super for me I hope the viewers will agree to with what I will be saying about this drama from now on.

Ohkay well the serial is getting somewhat interesting. I actually find myself liking it & don’t find it hard to watch at least once. The story is taking its twists & turns but I guess some of the content shown in the drama could’ve been sugar-coated or presented in a less dramatic manner.

Nadia & Mohsin got the time for themselves & got to confess their feelings. Nadia has taken a few steps to encourage Mohsin towards her & I guess it is a duty of every wife to do that. Mohsin seems to have rekindled the feelings he had for Nadia but oppressed them because of his mother. Khala’s help to Nadia took a toll on her & she had to pay the price but I must say the way Ramla & Ahsan tackled the situation was brilliant. I liked the scene where Ramla & Ahsan clearly mentioned in front of Mohsin that the way Nadia is being mistreated is intolerable & Ruqaiyya should stop.

Ruqaiyya has clearly told her neighbour that she is now willing to get Mohsin married again because Nadia couldn’t give her a grandchild till now. I feel some of the details in this drama are gruesome & could’ve been handled in a proper way with some lesser details because the way they clearly talk about Nadia & Mohsin’s relation is a bit awkward. Everyone knows what they are referring to so they can cut the part where they have to explain every time that what Nadia goes through & how a distance is maintained between the couple because of the Mother in law.

I really couldn’t believe when I saw the promotion of amulets (taveez). I really couldn’t stop wondering about the Hadith where it is clearly mentioned that the Women would be the dwellers of Hell in a greater number as compared to men & this is going to be the main reason because they would involve themselves in Shirk. I know many would not agree but I fail to understand that how can a man-written piece of paper improve someone’s condition or relation? Nadia took the paper & dipped it in the food so that her in laws would start loving her? This is totally beyond the concept of Quran Majeed & Sunnah, so why can’t the writers or the whole team involved in the making can point out about it & cut this promotion of Shirk out of their dramas. No doubt there’s a trend of literally buying the amulets these days in Pakistan but showing it on TV might encourage the people who already have a feeble iman on Allah. They on their own are showing the reality but to show it in a positive light that the in laws actually started loving Nadia because of the amulet is despicable. No no man can improve the condition of other fellow being let alone make others love him/her. I condemn & I hope that the drama makers stop showing such immorality in our dramas & I pray for those who seek help from others except Allah.

The preview of the next episode was interesting too & we saw Ali making some plans with his girlfriend so that Hira can take divorce from him & once again Nadia is going to be the target. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

EK Qayamat aur- A review.

The duo of S. Mazhar moin and Faseeh Bari khan are known for creating unusual serials and telefilms. This telefilm is an example of that. Ek Qayamat Aur aired on Hum Tv.

The Telefilm starts with an old crippled woman with a burnt face walking towards a group of Qawals rendering A beautiful Qawali ” Tere liye main tou charan lagi’ a Qawali dedicated to Hazrat Nizam Uddin Auliya(RA) the patron saint of Delhi. The old woman who is also a hunchback and carries a begging bowl sits down and cries silently. It is then the scene cuts to modern day and we discover that it is infact a dream of a woman named Shaista ( Sawera nadeem). She wakes up time find it is almost time for her husband (Amir Qureshi) To return home. At once we notice something is off. Shaista’s husband avoids her completely. She herself asks ‘kab tak bhaagte raho ge mujhse?’. All is not well in their married life.

To compensate for her Husband’s negligence Shaista begins to spend the duration of her day sleeping and dreaming about a Mughal princess who looks just like her! In her dream life she finds happiness. Enter Hina Dilpazeer in her usual brilliant performance. Hina plays the ‘Mughlani’ of the princess’s household who is her husband’s foster mother/ Spy! It is clear the Princess suffers from the same problem as Shaista. In their conversation when the Mughlani suggests a trip to Ajmer Sharif to pray for a child The Princess replies sarcastically other things are required for having a child then praying at a Mausoleum. This conversation further reveals the date of this setting as the Mughlani says the British could attack Delhi at any instance meaning it is shortly before the events of 1857. The conversation is cut short by a ‘Mashki'( water carrier) who has come to water the plants. He is played by Imran Abbas! The princess keeps watching him rather then going in parda like the rest of the ladies present.

Here a clarification must be made. All the characters in the dream/past story have real life counter parts. Princess is Shaista. Her husband is the prince, Mughlani is their maid and the Mashki is the guy who delivers water cans to heir house!

The next day Shaista’s dream comes true and the man of her dreams( Who is really very shy) comes into her house. She talks to him and also attempts to touch his shoulder but he literally breaks into a sweat and drops the water he is carrying! Then next day he returns Shaista speaks in a deep and meaningful manner with him. And alludes to her loneliness and her childlessness but they are interrupted by her maid who sees through the glass in the front door and bangs furiously. the water company deliverer leaves and the maid ( Hina Again !) gives them both meaningful looks.

Meanwhile her dream life gets more colorful as the princess gets more close to the water carrier. It is easy to see that Shaista is taking out her frustrations through these dreams. As she later says to her good for nothing husband that her life is finally getting completed through these dreams. Meanwhile the Mughlani scolds the water carrier for no particular reason and he gives her an excellent reply which leads the old woman who is well-versed in palace politics and scandals to suspect something is wrong and tries to discover the reason of his boldness! One day she sees him with thje princess one day! The princess gives her a piece of her jewellery to keep her mouth shut but even that doesn’t stop her conspiracies!

Meanwhile Shaista’s husband keeps getting worse. He is insensitive and sarcastic as well! Shaista keeps getting more entangled in the dream world her perception of dreams and reality getting blurred! It is clear from her gestures and the way she talks that the unfulfillment of her needs and the indifference of her husband is making her slowly loose her mind.

Shaista’s husband begins to suspect her of having a affair but instead she replies that she can’t kill her inner woman forever and says Waqar-un-nissa is also in trouble these days as Shehzada Huzoor is back in Delhi! This shows how cut of from reality she has become!
Meanwhile Shaista’s maid confronts her over the affair( What Affair? She only touched his shoulder once!) and says the boy will ruin her married life( LOL What life? This marriage is in name only!)

She also mentions that her grandmother who is old and senile is nowadays repeating the tale of a Mughal princess who went through a similar ordeal as Shaista and had an affair with a water carrier. Shaista asks what happened to her but she says her grandmother is not in her right mind and if pressed to give details breaks into really foul abuses! LOL. She had also mentioned earlier that her great grandmother worked in Shaista’s husband ancestral home in Delhi. This shows she is a descendant of the Mughlani. Shaista who has lost grips on reality threatens her with the dungeons and says that she told Shehzada Huzoor the truth. She grabs her face and shouts the face may be young but if you touch it the ugliness inside will be revealed. She tells Shaista that she is herself a woman and knows that the fault is not in her and asks her to leave the Boy (Whose name is Kabir). Shaista throws her maid out who goes to her husband and tells him every thing. ( Like Ancestor like descendant! Mughlani would be proud of her LOL).

Shaista’s husband gets really angry and goes to her room where she is sleeping. meanwhile in Shaista’s dream Waqar-un-nissa and Shehzada Huzoor are going to a place which is desolate and nobody is around( Reminded me of all the haunted sites people got trapped in indian horror serial LOL) very late at night accompanied by a few soldiers only! Shehzada Huzoor asks Shaista who is the father of her child! But she refuses to give his name saying she only followed her natural instincts after waiting for years for her husband to arrive! ( Really sad scene and dialogues). But he already found out the truth and has Kabir brought before her and killed before her very eyes!

 

Shaista’s husband wakes up from his sleep to finds her Crying and calling him a murderer. He says that Parveen ( their maid) ( has told him every thing. He however is outwardly very understanding and says he understands her predicament. At last the problem is revealed which is impotency. He says that he will drop at her house. ( In the middle of night!). While Shaista thinks that he wil kill her! She falls asleep in the car and sees the last part of her dream story. After killing Kabir Shehzada Huzoor orders his men to break her bones and to burn her face thus leading to her predicament as a crippled old beggar in the beginning of the story! This beating would also have lead to her loosing her unborn child. She is woken up by the sound of the car stopping. Her husband gets out to get some cigarettes and on the Paan shop talks to a man who looks like one of the soldiers from her dream! Shaista says that her husband is changing the end of the story and she knows he will harm her and asks him to stop the car! Here the biggest plot twist of the telefilm is revealed. Dressed in a sleeveless vest and low-hanging jeans Kabir walks to her car and croons seductively to her husband about how he can serve him! She screams her husband to take her home. Here at last she remembers all her encounters with Kabir and realizes why he was avoiding her! Her husband speaks in a casual tone about not to be disgusted by the boy as he often sees him standing out late at night! It is left ambiguous whether her husband did this intentionally or whether he knew the true identity of the boy! Seeing her only hope crumbled Shaista runs upstairs and jumps from the Balcony! The scene then cuts to Nazli Nasr ( In A special guest appearance) explaining that she is able to understand fractures but is unable to Understand why Shaista has turned into a hunchback. The scene ten forwards the Shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Karachi. As was shown in the beginning she walks with a stick and is a hunchback but is in decent clothes and with shoes meaning she has not fallen into the clutches of poverty. While the same Qawali is being played she has a flashback of every thing that happened to her and stares blankly into the camera as Credits Role.

The telefilm was brilliantly directed and written . Each character performed brilliantly but the credit must goes to Hina Dilpazeer! Despite being a supporting artist she works better then most leads. She is indeed a wonderful actress. Her mattering of the Old Delhi Urdu accent and dialect was out of this world.

There were two mistakes one the princess was shown wearing Ghararas although they came into vogue much later. Pishwaz. Kurta Pajama or the expansive Farshi pajamas would have been the correct ideal but then again this is a minor mistake compared to the overall brilliance of the well-written telefilm. Also Farshi pajamas would have curtailed her movement. The second was at the end of dream story Waqar-un-nissa travels unveiled with Shehzada Huzoor but then it could be attributed to the fact that both knew what was about to happen so such a formality was no longer needed, The writers left the audience to figure out how true was the dream story. Was it a real historical incident or was it Shaista’s mind creating a story which was a reflection of her ordeal. Any way the telefilm was brilliant.

True love is not based on beauty or wealth. True love is when someone accepts both the good things and the bad things in the person he/she loves because nobody is perfect. If he/she seem perfect, then it’s not really true love. It’s not something beauty or wealth decides, it’s the heart, the kind of person your loved one is… This has always been my belief. And I still stand by it. Therefore, I refuse to believe that Meesha loves Mayer.It’s probably just a crush but can’t be true love. Today’s episode made me decide who’s team I’m on. Yup, I am totally on Roman’s team now! I think he was hurt when Meesha said that one needs to be handsome and wealthy to be loved. Right now, he’s not paying much attention to his feelings and just wants Meesha to be happy and make Mayer fall in love with Meesha. He really loves her. That’s called selfless love!

Today we also found out that Roman had always been watching over Meesha. I’m really wondering now if Roman is a fairy-man or not. He really hasn’t shown any ‘magic’ signs. But then how did he get the Cinderella dress, and how does he show up suddenly(like he did in front of Meher). I am confused. We will probably find out later. But I am enjoying his performance very much. Faizan Khawaja is playing his role very well. I think the role he is playing looks like fun. Roman and Meesha have something in common; both are adorably and purposely trying to bug the people they work for. I think it’s cute! But Roman is more clever. He is taking his steps carefully around Meher. I can’t help but think Meher is planning something regarding Roman. I wonder what she’s thinking.

Zaini has convinced Mayer that she is the girl he met on the night of the festival. He has now completely fallen for her. But can’t he tell the difference between the way the mystery-girl(Meesha) and Zaini talk and behave? I so wish he finds out. Come on Mayer! You have to realize it!

Overall, it was a slow episode but it was interesting. Everyone is doing an outstanding job and I am really liking the story. I believe the next few days at Bano’s will be very important for the story. There is a lot we don’t know yet so I am also looking forward to all the answers. There’s still a lot of the story left so anything can happen.

Ek Nayee Cinderella Episode 8 – Review

An enchanting world of imagination presented in fairy tales is not easy to showcase visually. I can safely say that Aik Nayee Cinderella captures the magnificence of a rousing saga with utmost elegance. It bears the poise of a Victorian romance and boasts a richness that is entrancing. Characters such Mayer and Bano exhibit a great regality in their mannerisms and way of dressing, rendering their respective roles with aplomb and finesse.

The viewer gets absorbed into a stirring visual experience, one that is larger than life, quaint and heartwarming. The haunting background score is the soul of the serial that enhances its magic and the poignant performances lift the mesmerizing scenes.

Today’s episode especially was a visual treat, with the wilderness of Murree captured in its true essence inimitably, both in its tranquil low light and lustrous daylight, painting a heavenly picture. Kudos to Haissam Hussain for possessing such an artistic eye.

Some of the noteworthy picturesque scenes include the sequence of the rippling pond in which Meesha is pelting stones and shots of the lush green forest where the protagonists are interacting with each other. There was a spellbinding indoor sequence in which Mayer welcomes home his mother, as the room glows in the afternoon light that bodes well with the pastel shades of the actor’s clothing and makes the whole sequence very soothing to watch.

The episode had a lot of romantic moments which were fleshed out with aplomb.
Faiza Iftikhar’s story is carrying forward so unexpectedly and she writes the scenes in a way that injects them with a blazing energy. The screenplay never becomes sluggish which is a great achievement on her part.

The backdrop of the sublime evening setting of the mountainous backdrop awash in inky blue light was picture perfect for the interaction between Mayer and Meesha, who are gradually getting gripped by passion.

There was a delicate interplay of expressions between them and an incorporation of gestures such as Mayer walking towards an anxious Meesha with an intense look on his face and gradually covering her eyes with his hands to give her a surprise. They were consequently able to generate moments of profound intimacy in their scenes in a manner that is rarely seen on television in this part of the world.

There was again a lot of depth in the scene where Mayer looks at Zaini with his anger waning and morphing into concern, him gradually wiping off Zaini’s tears and Zaini following him gleefully with her tear smudged, red eyes.

Mayer is entangled in a dilemma as he draws closer to Meesha but finds it hard to let go of his strong infatuation for the conceited and beautiful Zaini. Osman Khalid Butt continues to reaffirm his mark as an actor par excellence who is able to engender a great intensity without too many expressions and is always in command of his character, gliding through the scenes with ease and impressing greatly in the process. In this episode he without a doubt steals the show with his nuanced acting.

Maya is a ball of energy and her boisterous mannerisms ignite many of the scenes with an endearing charm.

Meanwhile, Meesha’s happiness knows no bounds and she is reveling in her sense of accomplishment of finally getting Mayer to reciprocate her longstanding feelings.

Zaini in a desperate attempt to cling on to an irate Mayer apologizes to him and proclaims her love for him which melts his heart.

Meesha is again left in a lurch and Romaan is the shoulder to cry on.

Shrewd as she is Zaini quickly notices Mayer’s contemplation and doubt which are a result of his equation with Meesha but Zaini accuses Bano of poisoning him against her which unravels into an altercation between Zaini and Mayer yet again.

Mayer is in the climax of the episode is seen uttering sweet nothings to a dreamy-eyed Meesha so as to make Zaini envious, who is seething and observing the two.

Mukarram Kaleem and Qavi Khan are two men on a mission but the mystery surrounding their plans continues to intrigue viewers and is something which is likely to add a new dimension to this play. The feel of their scenes hitherto is quite cryptic.

Romaan continues to counsel Meesha but simultaneously is secretly smitten by her. Amy’s hopes of winning Roman over are dashed when he reveals that he already is in love with someone.

Faizan Khawaja is a complete natural and is very comfortable in his character which makes it quite realistic. He knows how to use the right expressions at the right time without going overboard and comes across as quite likeable.

The serial gets more and more interesting with every passing episode, making the viewers wait for the next one with greater anticipation.

The makers of this serial have dared to venture into precarious territory as this genre is relatively new for Pakistani dramas. The play has been embraced with open arms by the audience as good television, be it whatever category, is always watched.

Television in the West is constantly coming up with new and interesting stories dabbling with romance, action, comedy and drama (Seinfeld, The Newsroom, Entourage, Lost, and Game of Thrones among others). Drama producers in Pakistan though are content with the same stories of romance and family issues time and again. In the process they underestimate the taste and sensibility of viewers, who it must be noted, are exposed to foreign television in today’s globalised world.

Here’s hoping that more filmmakers experiment with new styles and scripts to gradually move the industry out of the rut of hackneyed plots. Though plays are visually impressive, capitalizing on latest technology, their content must be equally potent for the drama industry to truly become creative and robust.

The whole episode was full of surprises. We got to see more of Meesha and Mayer scenes and less of Roman Meesha scenes. I was kind of missing Roman in this episode. I absolutely love Farhan Khwaja’s acting. If I didn’t know better I would have thought he was an experienced actor instead of a newcomer.

The episode started off with Mayer and Meesha’s conversation. He was upset and shared his feelings with Meesha. He voiced his feeling by saying these dialogues ‘jiski mujhe talash hai usse paker bhi mein khodeta hoon’ and Meesha gave a pretty good reply ‘hosakta hai jis ko tum ne paya uski tumhe talash na ho aur jiski talash ho usko paya na ho’. These dialogues had a double meaning. Meesha wants him to know that Zaini is not the girl he is looking for. She wants him to open his eyes and acknowledge her real ‘mystery’ girl.

Mayer is fascinated by Meesha because she is the first girl who is ignoring him. When he called her a friend, she clearly told him that she does not consider him her friend yet. He is getting attracted to her innocence and simplicity. Mayer was slowly getting interested in Meesha but Zaini again came in the picture.

Mayer is really starting to piss me off. After everything that Zaini did, he still forgave her. Does he have any self respect or not? And poor Meesha had started to think that Mayer is finally taking some interest in her. Even Roman felt bad for her when Mayer came to Meesha’s house to drop Zaini. The poor girl was thinking that he had come there to meet her. Poor Meesha!

I loved the way Roman consoled her. That is how a true friend should be. He told her that she had done wrong with Zaini by lying about her character to Mayer and Bano and that is why bad things are happening to her. If you think badly for someone, the same will happen to you. So true, I hope Meesha does not repeat her mistake again. Roman again agrees to help her and wants her to pretend that she does not care that Zaini and Mayer are together. And yes! His advice did work. Mayer was again boggled by Meesha’s behavior. Mayer was with Zaini physically but his mind was thinking about Meesha all the time. Way to go Meesha!

Another thing which I disliked was when Mayer used Meesha to make Zaini jealous. Poor Meesha was surprised by his changed behavior and the sudden turn of events. Mayer praised Meesha in front of Zaini to make her jealous. Meesha is so naive, I love her dialogues. I remember this line that Mayer said to her and she gave the cutest reply:
Kiya ho tum meesha? Jadugarni?
Jee nahi, jadugarni itni haseen hoti hai.
I couldn’t help but laugh at her innocence.

Roman has totally fallen for Meesha but he has no intention of telling her. I loved the scene when he was reading a book with Meesha’s picture in it. He really likes her a lot and I like the fact that his love for her is so selfless. He is making every attempt to help Meesha win over Mayer without thinking about himself. I also liked Ammie Roman scene. It was as usual a treat to watch.
Now coming to the serious parts of the episode, we know now that Shah Baba is related to Meesha. He has sent a man to find Meesha. I have a feeling this man would be Ammie’s ‘dream guy’. I hope she also finds happiness.

Overall it was a good episode, I am curious to know what Mayer really thinks about Meesha. Does he feel anything for her or his attention is just a facade to make Zaini jealous? Will he every like Meesha? Will Meesha ever appreciate Roman? Can’t wait for the next episode now!

Wow! We finally got to see so many Mayer and Meesha scenes. I absolutely loved their scenes. Roman’s advice is finally working. Meesha ignored Mayer and this created an air of mystery around her and Mayer got intrigued by her. He got so impressed with her when she told Bano that she cannot accept her gift because she believes in simplicity and one should not judge people by their clothes, and she does not really care about her attire. Bravo! She totally won over both Bano and Mayer. Another cute scene was when Mayer saw Meesha dancing, and he went to her asked her “Tum hamesha itni khush kaise reh leti ho?” and she replied “Khushiyan mere paas khudi chal ker ajati hai”. Aww Meesha! You are the cutest thing!

Finally, the true face of Zaini is exposed in front of Mayer, but somehow he still wants her in his life since he is under the delusion that she is the same girl he had met at the Mela. Can’t he see what a selfish and proud girl she is? She is so confident that Mayer can like no other girl except her because she is so ‘beautiful’. Beauty no longer matters once you get to know the true selfish nature of a person. Zaini had the guts to misbehave with Bano and this caused Mayer and Zaini to fight. Mayer is still making excuses for Zaini to Bano (Is he stupid or what?) but she has clearly said that she would only forgive Zaini if she apologizes to her in front of everyone in the function. Zaini was adamant on not apologizing but Meher convinced her to do so. Will Zaini apologize in front of everyone? It will definitely be a big blow to her inflated ego.

Amy and Roman scenes were as usual a treat to watch. Amy made ‘pakodas’ for Roman. LOL. By the look on Roman’s face I could imagine how horrible they were. Poor Roman! He also consoled Amy when she was crying because of Zaini’s harsh words. He simply loves helping people doesn’t he? No wonder he is my favorite character. He told her that someone would like her one day, just the way she is. Awww! I also loved Roman’s reply when Amy asked him; does he also believe that a girl should be beautiful? And he replied that he liked girls who were simple. For him a girl’s simplicity is her uniqueness. Wonderful reply Roman!

Now coming to the bad parts, what is WRONG with Suraiya? I cannot believe she asked Roman to marry her. Look at your age woman! Yuck! Poor Roman got the shock of his life when he heard this. Thank god! Meher came to his rescue and gave him shelter in her house. Obviously, she has an ulterior motive for doing this, but at least Roman got saved from Suraiya. Phew! Now I feel even worse for him. I really like one thing about him though, he has so many problems in his own life but he has always remained optimistic. Dado is also happy about Roman coming to stay at their house. He has won her over so quickly. Kudos to him for that! Dado is definitely not an easy nut to crack.

So Meesha has done it again. She has again lied about Zaini to Bano and Mayer. Zaini, in her attempt to show her ‘worth’ to Mayer, confirmed the lie. I cannot say I felt bad for her, her whole relationship with Mayer is based on a lie. She is pretending to be someone she is not. Mayer never liked her because she is pretty; he liked her because he thinks that she is his ‘mystery’ girl. I hope he gets to know that Meesha is the girl he is trying to find in Zaini… Another dialogue which I found adorable was when Meesha asked Roman, “Mayer ko mein cute kiun nahi laghti!” I don’t know about Mayer, but we definitely find you cute Meesha!

Roman is slowly falling for Meesha. He has not realized it yet but I think he will pretty soon. The precap seemed pretty interesting. Mayer and Meesha are definitely up to something. We also got to see a new entry in the show, Shah Baba. I am sure the girl he is trying to find is Meesha. He is somehow connected to her past, but how? Is Meesha in danger from this man? Is this why Dado has always kept Meesha sheltered? Who is the new man shown in the last scene? Only Saifullah and Dado knows about Meesha’s past. I am curious to know where Meesha has come from. I am eagerly waiting for the next episode now!

Ek Nayee Cinderella Episode 4 Review

I must admit that I didn’t enjoy the 3rd episode of Aik Nayi Cinderella as much as I enjoyed the previous episodes but episode 4 totally won my heart! I loved every single part of the episode. It was adorable! I was smiling almost the whole time. I can say that this episode was my favorite out of all 4 that have aired.

Meesha was not able to go to the party because her evil step-mother put her granny into a deep sleep. What could Meesha do? Poor her! She cried and cried, asking God for help, asking God for a fairy mother who would help Meesha like she helped Cinderella. She didn’t get a fairy mother to help her, but Roman showed up. Yes, Roman made his entry today, someone we have been waiting for ever since the drama serial started, at least I was. Even though this was his first episode, I like him a lot already! Faizan Khawaja was amazing as Roman! And the chemistry between him and Meesha was felt by all of us,I’m sure. Roman and Meesha were really cute, I loved their scenes so much that I watched each of their scenes at least 3 times before I started this review. Haissam Hussain proved again that he can create great chemistry between characters. Roman has promised Meesha that he will help her get her prince(Mayer). He says he’s a fairy-man but I wonder if he really is. It seems he is hiding his identity by working in Surayya Aunty’s house. Is he a ‘fairy-man’ or a normal human? Time will tell.

Zaini is very clever and is trying her best to convince Mayer that the girl he met at the festival night was her. But Mayer is confused. He doesn’t see ‘that girl’ in Zaini. That’s why he couldn’t get his eyes off Meesha when she comes to the party. He knew it was her, but she denies and runs away after messing up. For some unknown reason, Meesha blames Roman for what happened in the party. Anyway, Mayer is completely confused about who his ‘mystery-girl’ is. I hope he doesn’t fall for Zaini’s trap. I like Mayer and Roman so I can’t really root for one as of yet. Let’s see what happens. I am really looking forward to how Faiza Iftikhar will shape the story. I think that Roman likes Meesha. Will this turn into selfless love? If so, I’ll definitely feel for Roman.

The party scene between Meher and Bano, I was chuckling while listening to them.It was kind of amusing to watch. Bano has recognized Zaini right! She is sharp and ‘moqa-parast’. I don’t want Mayer to fall for her! Please, make something happen so that Mayer finds out the truth! I am kind of desperate!

Everyone performed very well, Maya Ali, Osman Khalid, Faizan Khawaja, Eshita, everyone! I just thought that Osman Khalid was a little nervous. I felt he wasn’t as comfortable as the others but maybe it’s just me. He did a great job though I am loving the story, the direction and the performances by everyone. A&B Productions usually have the same feel to their dramas but this one is definitely different. I am so looking forward to the next episode and it really is getting harder to wait! How will I wait the whole week? I know, I’ll watch the Roman/Meesha scenes again! I seriously loved all the cute dialogues between them. They were both adorable! Anyway, great job team!

‘Love is blind’, Meesha and Mahir has proved this phrase right. In Meesha’s blinded infatuation with Mahir, she cannot see who her real prince charming is. In her eyes, a prince charming is rich, handsome and travel on horses and Roman does not fit into this category. Will she ever realize what a true jem Roman is? Mahir is also blind towards Zaini’s true selfish nature.

Roman has once again proved that he is the ‘fairy man’. Meher had used every possible way to stop Meesha from going to Mahir’s place. The way Meesha cried was heart wrenching, but how can Meesha stay upset as long as Roman is there! He again proved to be her knight in shining armor! He did all her chores and dropped her off to Mahir’s place on a horse. Roman is also seen giving advice to Meesha to win over Mahir. And the advice actually worked! Meesha ignored Mahir and this left him boggled enough to finally notice her and make conversation. That’s progress!

Mahir is falling more in love with Zaini by the day. Zaini Mahir scenes were the most annoying part of the episode for me. How can Mahir even like Zaini? She is the most self centered person I’ve ever seen. Poor Meesha had to watch Zaini and Mahir together and could not help but feel jealous.

Another part of the episode which I liked was when Roman made Meesha realize that she should not have lied to Zaini. Meesha actually felt bad about her lie and tried to make Zaini go back to Mahir’s place. This shows that Roman is not only her helper but also her guider. He will always help her to distinguish between right and wrong.

We finally know why Meher is after Roman. She wants him to get married to Annie. Poor Roman doesn’t even know what is being planned for him. Annie’s attempt to talk to Roman was hilarious. This was the funniest part of the episode for me.

Roman has this quality of winning over everyone and he was finally able to win over Nano too. It was seen that she was against Roman at first, but Roman knows how to win people’s heart. A hot cup of tea with a little flattery helped him to win her over. I have a very strong feeling that Nano is considering Roman for Meesha. Nano is also well aware of Meesha’s feelings for Mahir, she thinks it is just an infatuation and will pass over time. We would have to wait to find this out…

Roman may be the savior for Meesha but his life is also a mess in itself. His relative cum employer is an inconsiderate woman. We saw this when she refused to let him enter in the house when he got late and made him sleep outside the house. I really felt sorry for Roman. Poor thing!

Zaini is also seen showing her true colors to Mahir. She became insecure when Meesha lied to her about Bano instigating Mahir against Zaini. She misbehaved with Mahir and taunted him of being dependent on his mother for everything. I’m happy that Mahir finally saw her true face. I hope he realizes what a selfish person she is.

Overall it was a good episode. We finally got to see some progress in Mahir Meesha’s relationship. At least he spoke to her! Roman made me a greater fan of him. I am COMPLETELY on Team Roman now.

I am really looking forward to the next episode. Will Meesha Mahir relationship finally move forward? Will he finally realize that Zaini is not the girl he had fallen in love with? Will Meesha ever realize who her true prince charming is? To find the answer don’t forget to watch the next episode of Ek Nayee Cinderella!

It is indeed a sad point in my life, or in the lives of dramaholics like myself, when I have to ration out my drama watching to an episode a day because if I were to watch both episodes of two dramas airing one day I may not have anything to watch the next day. I know there are quite a few dramas on air that a lot of us really like and appreciate but only a handful seem to be on my watch list nowadays. Yet, the reason for my critique is nothing sophisticated or fanciful, rather can be likened to just a fussy toddler who will refuse to eat certain things, well just because!

A drama serial’s success rides on several factors such as the script, director, visual effects – the works. Which brings me to one factor that for me can pose as an instant deciding factor as to whether I want to follow that particular drama or not – the people (actors and actresses) in the drama. I will not make this article about my favorite actors and actresses but rather about those actors and actresses that you see far too often nowadays and how I (we) feel about them. Please note that this is entirely a product of my own brain (and heart – and eyes – and ears, you get the idea!). It would be almost impossible for everyone to like what I like, or dislike what ideas I may dislike because well, it is not as if we are talking about biryani here that everyone would have a universal positive opinion about  Having said that, it is with a pathar on my heart that I admit here I am a parent to a species that does not love biryani. Another sad fact of life, but there it is. And before I digress here, let me split up my article as follows based on the title – Ek baar dekho hazaar baar dekho…..(although the title suggests classification based on looks lol, I will focus on the acting prowess and skills instead.

Errm, no thank you!

Ah, where do I begin? Sometimes I see it coming. A new supporting actor/actress in one drama and switch the channel, same face and I know I will be resigned to seeing the same face almost everywhere soon. That does not necessarily have to be an entirely bad thing if the said person can pull it off which would be the second part of this article.

Aiman and Minal Khan
So, I get they are cute. I guess. But the made up faces, long curls, sulking and flouncing from one serial to the next over the past few months makes me wonder if I am missing anything – if I were not to see them act ever again. From Khaali Haath, Sun Yaara, Zindaan and now Hari Hari Churiyan these two sisters seem to be the flavour of the month – and I am not feeling it.

Sheroz Sabzwari
So I get that we do not see too much of him on TV – and that in itself says it all.

Noor Hassan
The deep voice and head tilted at one angle is all I have learnt to associate with this actor in the past few years. He was consistent in his appearance and acting at least but failed to make a mark. I almost mentally resign myself to expecting nothing new from his acting when I see his face amongst the cast of a new drama – and he never fails to prove me right. Ah well, except that one drama where gravity decided to have a dance at his expense and the only difference was when his beard was a bit longer and his hair skewed upwards – Be Aib was it? What bothers me is that every drama I view I see Noor Hassan and never the character he is meant to be portraying.

Faisal Qureshi
There was a time when many of us, myself included would make it a point to watch a drama if Faisal Qureshi was starring in it. So, I would never have imagined myself including him in this list but then here I am. Whether it is because of the characters he has chosen to play recently (Dabbu Bhai in Mera Yaar Miladay, man of questionable sanity in Zakham or whatever he was that he was in Waada and Rang Lagga) -sadly he offers nothing new anymore.

Kubra Khan
She is beautiful, yes and impressed most of us with her acting in Sang e Marmar. I watched Muqaabil on and off and her acting was decent. But then throw in Andaz e Sitam and Alif Allah Aur Insaan and she seems to be everywhere and my beef with that is that I see Kubra and not the character she is playing.

Junaid Khan
The only time I really liked Junaid Khan was in Sun Yaara and I can safely that is because that was one drama he did not have to act in. Rephrase – his character was based on his acting, if that makes sense.

Yes please!

And then you have those actors and actresses that may be appearing in drama serials back to back or even in a few at the same time, but one does not seem to quite mind because they can actually pull it off.

Sami Khan
That is the first name that came to my mind for this list. He has been around for a while and although he is a good actor he seems to be suddenly shining more nowadays. He is starring in three dramas that are on air nowadays and while I am regularly following two of them Be Inteha and Tere Bina, Fatima’s reviews on the third one,Tau Dil Ka Kiya Hua makes me believe he is acting just as well in this one too. His portrayal of Sherry in Be Inteha is wonderful and his absence is sorely felt when his character took its leave from the drama.

Noman Ejaz
I had to think twice about this name. He is an amazing actor – no doubt about that. But then over the past year or so he has been appearing in a lot of dramas – some good, some not as much. But what made me add his name here is that each role he performed – he owned. The evil pir in Dumpukht, gunda in Bhai, Da Jee in Sang e Marmar, exasperated scornful husband in Laut Kay Chalay Aana and now in Rungreza – he delivers each time and his acting is never lacking.

Bilal Abbas
I was impressed by Bilal’s acting in Dumpukht. It all seemed so effortless and again in Saanp Seerhi. Although he seemed to be taking on only drama at a time but then with Rasm e Duniya still on air and now Rungreza and more projects in the pipeline, he is a promising addition to the drama world – and pretty easy on the eye too, if I may add!

Not ek and not hazaar – but somewhere in between!

This category is more in line with my personality. Not very passionately against or in favour of most things but moving safely and calmly along with the flow of life. While they are good actors and actresses in their own right, you do not see them often enough to make you want to see them even more – or want to never see them again!

Rabab Hashim
Another actress who has been around a while and has grown on me over time. Yes, her acting does not seem to offer anything new each time but for some reason – it works. For me at least. I particularly like her acting in Tumharay Hain at the moment.

Agha Ali
Well, because I kind of need to keep seeing him. On air. Just because. On a serious note, it is very hit and miss with Agha Ali. There are dramas where there is more focus by the director I suppose on his hair or dressing etc such as Andaz e Sitam and now Be Inteha but then he is also able to give very decent performances in dramas such as Tum Yaad Aye and Tumharay Hain.

Sehr Afzal
I would have at one time penned her down as an underrated actress and maybe still can. She was convincing as Zainy in Tum Yaad Aye and her acting was also effortless in Thora Sa Aasman. She is performing in two dramas that are currently on air at the moment, Amaanat and Muhabbat Khwab Safar but since I am not following either I can not comment on her acting there.

Ali Abbas
I initially could not watch Ali Abbas without hearing his real life father speak instead – something which was dramatically minimized in Kissay Chahoon. I enjoy watching him act (for the most part) since his characters are very diverse – from the bechara husband in Titli, to the good for nothing jerk in Laikin and the herb inspired character Basil in the recently concluded Khaali Haath – he keeps making small splashes that do not go unnoticed each time.

Naveen Waqar
Ah, I can already see a few raised brows and wrinkled noses and I would have been part of that group too till recently. While her acting does not wow you, yet she manages to hold her in own in her dramas of late such as Kuch Na Kaho and Be Inteha.

And then, you have actors and actresses such as the ones below that always make me say, haye Allah yeh phir?!
