There have been quite many TVC’s coming up lately and now Good Milk’s latest advertisement featuring Sarwat Gilani has released online. The tvc has been brilliantly scripted and covers all the emotions beautifully. The campaign Roz Roz Good Milk Jiya Karo is directed by Soheb Akhtar, it is visually astounding and impressive. Sarwat Gilani has graced the tvc with her presence and is surely a must watch.
Pakistani showbiz industry is filled with men who are multi-talented and exceptionally good looking. These good looks are god-given but all these models, actors and singers also work extra hard to keep themselves fit. Men in showbiz nowadays are just as conscious about their looks as women and with the Pakistani film and fashion industry growing, there are more opportunities for them as well.
This list contains the names of those capable and handsome men who have actively participated in different fields this year and who are bound to be even more active next year. There are many Pakistani men like Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam for instance who are good looking without a shadow of doubt but since they added very little to the projects in Pakistan therefore they have been excluded from the list. However, we do hope that these men will be seen on Pakistani screens, both big and small more often and will give us a reason to appreciate their looks and work in Pakistan more next year.
We truly appreciate these good looking men for giving Pakistani entertainment their very best. This list is an effort to appreciate not only their looks but also their contribution to Pakistan’s entertainment sector. Here is the list of the most good looking men of Pakistan in 2016 and it is in the descending order:
11. Muneeb Butt
Muneeb Butt is comparatively new to the industry but his attractive personality and handsome looks got him a lot of recognition in such a short span of time. Muneeb has become a familiar face because he has done a lot of dramas back to back and has garnered a lot of acting experience in a short span of time. Muneeb is definitely one of the most talented new comers that our industry has got.
10. Hasnain Lehri
In a short span of only two years in the world of modeling, Hasnain Lehri has proved his mettle. Only a few male models totally rock the bearded look and Hasnain Lehri is definitely one of them. The guy’s got killer looks – no wonder he has become associated with the best of brands including Sapphire, Elan, HSY Ali Xeeshan. He also bagged a Lux Style Award for the Best Model of the Year, and we absolutely agree!
9. Ali Rehman Khan
Ali Rehman Khan has recently joined the drama industry and is making an appearance on the silver screen too but there’s no doubt about the fact that Ali Rehman is one of the most good looking & talented actors of our industry. In such a short span of time, Ali Rehman has proved himself by experimenting with different looks for the sake of different roles that he plays. He has a lot of confidence which enables him to carry any sort of look effortlessly.
8. Shahzad Noor
Shehzad Noor is a super model who has a big name in the fashion industry. After making his presence felt in the world of modeling, he is all set to make his mark in the world of dramas. He has rugged manly looks coupled with tons of confidence and style. Watch out for this guy because he has everything it takes to make it to the top.
7. Farhan Saeed
We got to see quite a lot of Farhan Saeed this year; drama serials, dance performance at LSA 2016, music videos of the songs he recently released. But we are certainly not complaining! We have always been a fan of his velvety, soothing vocals and thanks to Udaari, we now know he can act too! Also, he is easy on the eyes, so let’s be real, what more could we want? We also love how the charming singer-turned-actor carries himself.
6. Azfar Rehman
Actor, host and model, Azfar Rehman is multi-talented and truly charming. This list would be incomplete without him. He is incredibly good looking, and we also love the fact that he can sport any look with ease and effortlessness – a quality that makes him a great model. Apart from that he is a natural actor who gives his best to every project he is a part of.
5. Ahsan Khan
With perfect facial features and an undeniable screen presence, Ahsan Khan deserves to be on this list. This year, we have a newfound appreciation for Ahsan Khan because he successfully managed to shed his chocolate-hero image, and viewers stand in awe of his powerful performances in Preet Na Kariyo Koi and Udaari (we still get shivers thinking about Paa Imtiaz).
4. Hamza Ali Abbasi
Hamza Ali rose to fame with his perfect portrayal of Afzal in Pyare Afzal. That was one such project that earned him a huge fan base and for all the right reasons. Hamza has a very good personality, an equally amazing voice and endearing smile which sets him apart from the rest of the actors of the recent lot.
3. Zahid Ahmed
Comparatively new to the drama industry, Zahid Ahmed has made a name for himself in such a short span of time because of his strong screen presence, unique voice & impressive looks. Zahid Ahmed not only convinced people with his acting but he touched a lot of people by sharing his weight loss journey, which showed his determination to make himself look more appealing and it most certainly worked.
2. Imran Abbas
Imran Abbas is a household name. Whenever we talk about good looking men of our drama industry, Imran Abbas is one such actor who immediately comes to mind because of his attractive facial features and chocolate hero looks. Imran Abbas is one of those actors who can pull off any role because of his convincing acting and undeniable screen presence.
1. Bilal Ashraf
Out of all the newbie actors and models we got to see in 2016, Bilal Ashraf is the most promising among them all! Why, you ask? With a towering frame and a smile to kill for (have you seen those dimples?), Bilal Ashraf has us fangirling over his dashing good looks. We’d go so far as to say that he’s the only reason why we don’t regret watching Janaan. He is film-material – no wonder he will be seen in five upcoming Pakistani films: Two+Two, Yalghaar, Waar 2, Jhol Film and Rangreza. Don’t know about you but we can’t wait!
So, here is the list of most good looking men of 2016. Please feel free to add more names and don’t forget to share your thoughts.

Ohkay so, let me get straight to the point, I am in love. I am in love with this drama. I am so glad after Thursdays I now have a drama worth setting an alarm for at the weekend to watch, enjoy, experience & review. The team of Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 02 has completely made me forget about the Season 01 because they are showing the story in such a detailed manner that each & every character, their thought process, their stance, everything is coming across with absolute clarity, which is amazing! The drama-makers have succeeded in making the viewers feel the pain that the characters are going through, which is actually a must in a love-story especially. Thank you so much Team Khuda Aur Mohabbat for giving us an absolute treat on the weekend, it is worth every single second of my time.
‘Mazhab us waqt tak ki rukawat lagta hai, jab tak insaan us se duur rehta hai’, so, the traveler who met Hammad for the first & probably the last time in his life got him introduced to the concept of religion. He opened a window for Hammad into a domain which Hammad thought wasn’t meant for him & with this, the journey of Hammad’s self-discovery & reflection began. It was only because of that man, that Hammad mustered up the courage to step a foot inside Masjid, without having any know-how up his sleeve, because that man told him that no matter how flawed you think you are, what matters the most is your intention. Somehow Hammad got fascinated by the honesty & truthfulness with which he got to know that the religion, which everyone around him makes it look so rigid & hard to follow was anything but that. Even though Hammad had a point to prove to Molvi Aleemuddin but he didn’t put all of his efforts into pleasing him to score a win in front of Imaan’s father & in fact he put his heart & soul into it because he wanted to get familiar with the idea of religion & how it will change his life. Hammad’s intention was pure, just like his love for Imaan is, that is why he chose to walk on the path that he has never walked on before & that too with so much of devotion that he ended up making Molvi Aleemuddin anxious.
I loved loved loved how they began Hammad’s journey on the right path & how they showed his transition from someone who didn’t even know the basics as he was never taught about all of that throughout his life, into someone who was now putting all his energies into perfecting himself in every aspect related to the religion. What I loved the most about Hammad’s journey was the it was Abdullah who unwillingly was getting to monitor Hammad & was getting familiar with Hammad as a person. Even though Molvi Aleemuddin pushed Hammad away from himself by telling Abdullah to take care of Hammad’s concerns, he didn’t know that by doing this, Molvi Aleemuddin himself was giving Abdullah a chance to become Hammad’s supporter as the more he was getting to interact with Hammad, the more he was growing sympathetic towards him. It was actually quite beautiful to see that Hammad not even for a second tried to think that by doing all of this, that too in front of Molvi Aleemuddin, he will be able to move or impress him. Yes, Hammad did choose Molvi Aleemuddin & Abdullah as his teachers, but that was only to prove a point that when he decided he had nothing to do with his family, it also included getting rid of all the habits that might remind Molvi Aleemuddin of the fact that Hammad belonged to Amjad Raza’s family!
Honestly speaking, in the first season, I never once got to know whether Imaan fell in love with Hammad or not but I am so glad, the clarity with which they showed everything in this season made it a bit too obvious that Imaan felt a little something in her heart for Hammad. The scene at the railway station, where Hammad was carrying Imaan’s luggage was absolutely beautiful yet overwhelming. To see a man suffer to such an extent of punishing himself is definitely something huge & that is the reason why Imaan became restless & she couldn’t keep her eyes off Hammad as she was trying to grasp the fact that Hammad was so in love with her that he left everything for her & was now doing something that he isn’t supposed to do. Even though Abdullah might not want to admit, but even he can not ignore the fact that Hammad’s love for Imaan is pure, that is why throughout this episode, it was evident that Abdullah was feeling bad for Hammad because even he couldn’t make himself understand that a guy like Hammad, who had everything in his life could go to such an extent for the sake of his love. Then came the interaction of Hammad & Imaan, no words, just pure feelings being conveyed through eyes & some tears, absolutely beautiful, magical & the best scene of the episode for me. That was the moment when Imaan also realized the purity & level of Hammad’s love for her, that is why she was touched & moved. Simply beautiful!
I love the fact that Hammad’s aura & persona is just so attractive that anyone who gets to interact with him can’t go without forming a connection with him, that is the reason we see Ghafoor, Siddique & Kheru, everyone supporting Hammad wholeheartedly. For the first time, Ghafoor got to know the reason why Hammad was punishing himself like this, but being someone who has experienced the pain that love causes you, Ghafoor could totally understand what Hammad was going through & why he was putting himself through all of this. It is actually quite nice to see that Hammad now has few well-wishers who root for him & support him.
To be honest, I never developed a feeling of detest for Molvi Aleemuddin in the 1st season because I felt he was just a very humble & modest person who couldn’t bring himself to put up with the pressures of the society but in this season, I am not really a fan of Molvi Aleemuddin because his personality has been elaborated clearly & the viewers have gotten an insight of his thought process which reeks of ego & wrong blend of culture & religion as per his convenience. The note at which the episode ended was a decisive point for me & it sealed the deal that Molvi Aleemuddin, he might be really nice in all other aspects, but he was someone who would mix culture with the religion to find an escape for himself from awkward situations. Everything that Molvi Aleemuddin said to guy who posed the question about opting for love marriage went to show that he was just trying to prove his point to Hammad that no matter what happens, he can not get married to Imaan because he loves her. It is absolutely sad that despite seeing the dedication & honesty of Hammad, Molvi Aleemuddin is letting his ego get the better of him because he can not bring himself to admit that a young lad, who might not even have as much knowledge about religion as he does, is challenging his beliefs & is actually right in his own accord. Hammad has done enough to prove his love for Imaan & more than that, the purity of his intentions but Molvi Aleemuddin can not look past Hammad’s family background & he is a little shallow to be unable to forgive Hammad’s family for what they did & forget everything that happened in the past. It is sad that Molvi Aleemuddin is still being so judgmental when it comes to Hammad that he is unable to see how good of a human being Hammad is!
Overall, this episode was absolutely beautiful. I love the way the director has directed these past couple of episodes, where he shows on scenario but runs the story in the flashbacks, it makes everything seem quite engaging & the continuity seems perfect too. I actually really liked Humayun Ashraf’s performance in this episode, he surely has given Abdullah’s character a perfect treatment. Sadia Khan may not have many dialogues to deliver but she makes her presence felt in such limited scenes too. Firdous Jamal has acted brilliantly as Molvi Aleemuddin & he has maintained a thin line of not making his character seem totally negative. Now coming to the star of the episode & the star of the show & for me, that is Imran Abbas, oh well, I am sure no other actor would’ve played Hammad’s character the way Imran Abbas has & no other actor could’ve done justice to such a beautiful character. I’m certain of the fact that if it wasn’t for Imran Abbas, we would’ve never felt the emotions that Hammad goes through & the pain that he suffers, there is such honesty in Imran Abbas’s performance that just keeps your eyes glued to the screen & your mind searching for more. Hats off, that’s all that I can say! Thank you so much Team Khuda Aur Mohabbat & most importantly, Thank You So Much Imran Abbas! Please share your thoughts about this beautiful episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat!
The revival of Pakistani Cinema has brought many fascinating films. With many movies releasing back to back, the expectations we have are rising too. Film Thora Jee Le is one of those films which celebrates friendship. The cast of the film includes fresh faces Kasim Khan, Ahsan Mohsin Ikram, Ramsha Khan, Rizwan Ali Jaffri, Fatima Shah Jilani, Bilal Abbas and Salman Faisal. The film is produced by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi and 1Influence where as written and directed by Rafay Rashdi.
In conversation with The Express Tribune, Rafay Rashdi said, “Thora Jee Le is a film for the youth. It will remind you of your college days and all the fun you had. What makes it different is that our characters stand out for several reasons. We have seven characters and each one has a different story, comes from a different background and has unique traits.”
The director revealed that the main cast includes a party boy and a massive cricket fan among others. “So, we have a variety of characters and the audience can relate with them,” he said. “Most of us are cricket fans, for example. Similarly, a lot of things in the film are taken from what happens around us.”
He further said, “It’s all about the youth. We want to attract the youth with our film and we want to make a point that young people can join this industry based on their talent.”
Thora Jee Le revolves around 7 individuals belonging to different background. It’s a story about self discovery, friendship, trust and connection between friends, who venture on a journey of a lifetime, only to discover that, Fate had different plans for all of them. The trailer will release this Sunday and the film is all set to release on January 20, 2017.
I don’t want to feel like a broken record but I have to say that I absolutely love the way this drama is breaking some major stereotypes. Watching a divorced woman who was once stuck in an abusive relationship living a normal married life with a man who values her is absolutely refreshing. This marriage was also not an outcome of societal pressure or because Sanam couldn’t look out for herself. Sanam and Zahir’s marriage was a product of love which is another part of this track which is truly wonderful. Pakistani viewers need to see positive role-models in dramas which break stereotypes and this drama definitely has many such characters. While we are getting to see the extreme biased against children who are not gender-specific, we are also watching someone like Bubble Mian helping out, making himself useful and being accepted. Nowadays we read news every other day in which people like Bubble Mian are put through the worst of ordeals only because they are considered lesser humans therefore this topic is also quite relevant. Mahi’s dialogues are always on point because they show her way of thinking and the bigger goal she is trying to achieve quite clearly.
Arshi’s character is negative but even then she has not been shown as someone who has ever lied or manipulated a situation in her favor by “staging” an event or situation. Her dialogues and actions tonight once again proved that she is so ignorant that she thinks that there is nothing wrong with the way she views relationships. By the end of this episode however it seemed like she might go along with her friend’s plan. It has been six years since Zain and Mahi were separated and I must say that it is difficult to relate to this particular situation since they meet in the office on daily basis yet there has been absolutely no development in their relationship nor have they decided to leave each other.
Aly Khan’s character is another positive addition to this drama. This character is not like any other role Aly Khan has played till date but he fits perfectly in it. Mikael’s initial reaction, his thoughts about what Mahi told him and later on his final decision was covered well in this episode. I am looking forward to how he influences Noor’s personality and what role does his character play in the future since it would be natural for Mahi to get close to someone who is so accepting of her child and goes out of his way to help her out. Both the meetings between Mikael and Mahi were very emotional. The only aspect which I didn’t quite understand was that why was Mahi looking for Mikael’s address so desperately because in the end she found him in the same place where she had met him before.
It is absolutely refreshing watching an independent woman like Mahi in this drama and it is equally nice watching men like Zahir, his father and Mikael who break stereotypes in more ways than one. The marriages in this drama are also quite different from the typical marriages with all the clichés attached to them which we see in our dramas all the time. This drama also has some solid performances to its credit. Watching Aisha Khan play a role which has tons of potential is definitely a treat. Mariam Saleem is also a good addition to this play and the drama industry.
Watching Hira Tareen playing the role of Kashmala felt like Deja Vu! When Arshi was talking about Kashmala, it reminded me of Sunbal’s character in Tum Kon Piya because in TKP too I kept on wondering why a beautiful, intelligent, modern girl from an affluent family had to be so desperate! Hira Tareen will be playing a similar role yet again and I am already thinking why someone like her would be so interested in a married man with a kid who loves his wife! So far all the tracks in KMBH have been handled well therefore I hope that this one too will be free of clichés.

There are not many dramas seen having an impressive scale like movies but Khuda aur Mohabbat season 2 is one of them. First season of the drama was a massive success and the second season too promised to offer something remarkably appreciating. The drama has yet again topped the Trp charts and Imran Abbas shared his joy on Instagram.

Khuda aur Mohabbat season 2 has been ruling the TRP charts for 2 consecutive weeks. It has been receiving positive response and is immensely loved by the audiences. The story is about a not so religious guy Hammad, who falls in love with Imaan, who is the daughter of a molvi.
Ohkay so, to be honest, I really found this episode of Seeta Bagri below average. All of a sudden it looked like some novice director & editor took over & had no idea how they should be handling the drama because everything ended up looking wrong & I am not sure why or how did that happen?
All of a sudden they showed that someone shot Thekedaar Chacha & that scene came out of nowhere & I got so confused that I actually had to recheck the previous week’s episode to see if I missed something but that scene wasn’t even a part of the previous episode, so no idea how or why did they make everything seem so choppy. Also, sadly the way his death was handled made his character seem purposeless as there was no background story given & there was no light shed on his track at all. Looks like Thekedaar Chacha was used to introduce the character of Aakash & now when he did, his character was literally thrown out of the drama? All of a sudden we heard that someone shot him & then we heard that he died & the next thing we got to see was Ratan playing cards with his friends while being drunk? How did the director even think of showing such a scene after showing that someone from such a close-knit community died because we all know that Ratan is a very considerate person & he goes out of the way to help other people, so to see him moving on from Thekedaar Chacha’s tragic & sudden death just so effortlessly seemed a little hard to digest.
To be honest, even in the initial episodes the romance between Nandini & Ratan was cringe-worthy, but I cut them some slack thinking that the writer must’ve had something in his mind & that much of romance was may be necessary to show the relationship that Nandini & Ratan share but to be honest, with each passing episode, it is getting hard for me to digest their romantic scenes, where Nandini acts like a hopeless teenager in love & Ratan acts like a sought-after hunk. We get it, Nandini is over the moon that she has scored a win by getting married to Ratan, so can we please move on because their track is not only hard to digest but is also quite cringe-worthy, plus they are not showing anything happening in their lives, so I really don’t understand what’s the point of showing us their sick romance again & again & again!
As much as I like Seeta’s character & watch the drama only for her, I so wish they had shown Seeta doing something on a slightly bigger scale. They have time & again implied that Seeta loves education but in the previous episode, they showed that Seeta at the age of 25 just gave her BA exams, so I am not sure with which speed Seeta is educating herself because girls get done with their BA’s at the age of 20 & by the age of 25, they land themselves some sort of a job. I wish in stead of just showing it in theory, they had shown that Seeta was practically doing something & making a living for herself by putting her most talked about ‘BA’ to good use!
The character of Aakash was annoying right from the moment he stepped in. I am not sure why but all of a sudden I have started feeling that the writer/director was quite inspired by Bollywood movies, so he put all of his inspiration into making this drama because the filminess that seemed fun in the initial few episodes has now started to make me feel if the director actually had some purpose behind showing this drama or he just wanted to dramatize the stuff he loves from Bollywood!
Overall, this episode offered nothing new & to be honest, in this particular episode, I found everyone’s acting just so weird, as if the director forgot to give them the instructions & they ended up doing what they deemed fit. The twist in Aleezay & Taimur’s track was the most unimpressive scenario of this entire episode, plus their robotic acting made things even worse. Aleezay & Taimur are not the main leads, plus they were added as supporting characters to shed a light on the fact that people can help the minority communities that reside within our society through NGO’s but all of a sudden, the director ended up adding a love triangle to their track which seems totally unnecessary. Sarwat Gillani’s acting where she was yelling at Aakash was quite shocking, it looked like this was the first time she was facing the camera, because of which she was finding it hard to emote. I liked Shameen Khan as Mala Rani & found her boisterousness enjoyable in the initial episodes but not anymore, her high-pitched voice & OTT acting is a bit hard to tolerate. I really hope that the director start showing us some signs of purpose behind making a drama with Hindu characters, which we all believed would’ve been to shed a light on the lives of minorities & how they can be approached & helped around to bring a change in their condition. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Seeta Bagri!
Dramas have been an integral part of Pakistani Entertainment since years. The makers of the dramas will possibly do the best to attract the largest audience and one of the most important thing that entices the viewers is the OST. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0gSdFhEdlM
2) Sanam OST
There are not much praises for the drama since it doesn’t has much to offer but the OST is totally opposite. It is remarkable, because everything is just so perfect and praiseworthy. The OST is composed, penned and sung by extremely talented Shuja Haider.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsdLxxtnUf4
1) Sang e Marmar OST
The drama and the OST both deserve this rank because they’re unmatchable. Sang e Marmar has brought a story with no cliche’s and lots of interesting things that we just can’t get over it. The OST of the drama has been written in such a depth that it touches the core, and Rahat’s voice has made it exceptional. One can just sit back holding the reverence for the commendable OST. It is composed by Sahir Ali Bagga, lyrics are written by Imran Raza and the singer is Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Boxer Amir Khan’s wife Faryal Makhdoom has been in news for quite sometime now. The family saga is just not ending, this all started when Faryal accused her in-laws for physical and mental harassment. The family feud rose when Amir’s parents lashed out at Faryal and claimed that Faryal’s allegations are false. With all the growing tension in the media, Amir called an end for all this and warned his family and wife to stop all this before he cut’s himself from them.
After all this, we had expected things to cool down at least publicly but Faryal proved us wrong by speaking about this matter again at a morning show. And just when there was no news for a long time, it is now Faryal’s parents that shared their side of story.
In a recent interview with Dunya News, parents of Faryal opened up on the matter. They revealed how the media has twisted this situation and has been spreading false news’s of Faryal and Amir’s relation issues. She further revealed how the whole family including Amir was upset on the matter but there are no issue’s between the couple and she has been highly disappointed and hurt hearing Amir’s parents saying that Amir and Faryal might divorce soon. She further on, requests and pleas all the parents out there to never say this to anyone’s daughter, that she can get a divorce.
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that one of Faryal’s fans had bashed Amir’s sister Mariyah saying : “You people don’t even help Faryal. Every time when she goes out from the country her Mum comes from the USA to babysit. Cruel people, Amir choose his wife over you guys.”
To which Mariyah responded: “Babes she doesn’t allow us to see her”.
However, Faryal denied Mariyah’s claims.
She told The Sun: “I have never stopped my child from visiting them. In fact Amir’s older sister wouldn’t let her daughters come over and play with my daughter. Even though Amir’s nieces aren’t my blood, I treated them like my own children. I really loved them.”
Upcoming drama Zindaan is a six sigma plus production, directed by Syed Atif Hussain and written by Samina Aijaz. The shooting of the drama has already begun and it will go on air after March 2017 on Ary Digital. Zindaan is a love triangle and the cast includes Fatima Effendi, Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt in the lead roles.
Urwa Hocane and Farhan Saeed recently tied the knot. Whether it’s the high profile functions or the rising controversies, Urwa and Farhan’s wedding is the latest trend in the news. The couple was showered with love from their fans but some fans were disappointed due to some reasons and raised their voice’s on social platforms. Earlier, the leading star Faisal Qureshi had wrote a post on Facebook and this time it’s Urwa’s very own sister Mawra, who spoke for it. She first shared a picture of Urwa lying on the bed with an injured ankle followed by a long post on Facebook regarding all the criticism the girl had faced.
Mawra started off with thanking all the fans for their prayers and continued saying that she had been extremely disappointed seeing people pointing fingers at the couple’s wedding.
Nida and Sikandar bid farewell to each other on a relatively positive note. Sikandar wasn’t looking forward to going back to Shama but his parting lines indicated that he was at least going to try not to hurt her. Although I didn’t really understand the logic behind what he said because Nida never said that her fiancé loved her but their farewell was covered well. It would have been odd if Nida left without this last meeting between her and Sikandar. Nida’s relationship with Meesha and Sikandar both has been handled well throughout and their last meeting together was also covered flawlessly. Nida’s conversation with Meesha tonight was meaningful because it reflected her frame of mind. Shama’s efforts to ensure that she was able to stand up and welcome Sikki were covered in detail as well. Although these scenes did not have a lot of entertainment value but they were definitely needed. Had Shama not been shown trying over and over again, her welcome to Sikki would have been as surprising for the viewers as it was for Sikandar! It was great watching Shama back to being her old self. When she talked to Sikandar tonight she was a lot more confident and full of life. Mira Sethi gave the scenes in which Shama was shown trying to walk her best. Although these scenes were difficult to direct but the director managed to do justice to them.
Hina Bayat’s character once again brought a smile on my face. Her obsession with Phupo’s bag and her over enthusiasm was too cute for words. I simply love how all the tracks and characters get appropriate screen time in every episode unlike many other recent dramas with a star cast and top directors in which some of the primary characters vanish every now and then and are back only when they are needed! Although there was nothing new about Phupo’s rants but anyone who has a close extended family would have been able to relate to the conversation we heard in tonight’s episode between Phupo and her brothers. The preview of the next episode also indicated that there is a good reason why Phupo is so keen on getting Nida married to her son and why she wants her brothers to sell the house. I felt for Zahra when she was overjoyed to hear that Nida had brought her a saree but her mother snubbed her. I am completely into all the characters in this play and am actually enjoying the slow pace of this drama because I am tired of watching dramas which are more rushed than fast paced.
Nida’s feelings and her breakdown was covered impeccably in tonight’s episode. Tayee’s willingness to cook for Nida was one of my favorite scenes from tonight’s episode. I love how Tayee is so judgmental and authoritative at times but it is only because she loves Nida. Also, Taya Abu’s reaction when Taye talks about Ayaz’s rishta was an interesting conversation. Like every other script written by Faiza Iftikhar this one too has plenty of meaningful conversations to its credit which might not be as powerful or deep as the ones we saw/heard in Dillagi but they always have a context and they resonate with the viewers. Most importantly the reactions and these conversations in general do not have a done-to-death feel to them. Hina Bayat is absolutely brilliant in the role she is playing, I can watch her scenes over and over again! Dil Banjara is a relatable play which makes you look forward to more. It is getting even more interesting with every passing episode and I am just as interested in Sikandar’s track as I am in Nida’s.

Uzaid Jaswal has received multiple awards till date and there are all praises for him. He is not just a good singer but has proved his acting skills too. He has been in singing since a decade and has sang numerous successful singles. Uzair is now all set to launch his own album for the very first time, named ‘Na Bhulana’. He recently released the first look of his upcoming album.
In conversation with Images , Uzair revealed, “My first album Na Bhulana is a journey of love. It’s actually a story that tells you what love is and how it takes charge in your life; what good it brings to your life and what it takes away when it’s gone.”
“It’s been almost ten years that I have been doing music and this is my first album, so I feel like it was a long time coming and now that it’s here I’m really excited, And I really hope that people will listen to it. I hope that my fans, who’ve been listening to me since I was 14, really connect with the album. I mean, if nothing else, they will hear it out once… at least once, and that’s all that matters. I just want my music to be heard and that’s it,” said the singer.
When asked what compelled him to release his debut album now, the singer replied, “The only reason people aren’t doing albums is that you don’t get returns from it but I thought that a musician can’t feel satisfaction like this, until one can feel complete and good about the fact that ‘Oh, I have something in a collective form, a music album’. I needed this for myself.”
Uzair may have started this project on his own but he was quick to gain support! He reveals, “I didn’t have any sponsors on board but then my friend at the New Yorker’s Pizza have jumped on board as partners. They’re helping us put this album out and put on a really good show in Islamabad an album launch show on December 28.”

Soon after Junaid jamshed’s death, many stars paid their tributes to the Islamic preacher. Some jammed to his famous songs and some sang for him. Recently Junaid Jamshed’s son Babar, released a video on Facebook paying tribute to his father. Babar in the video is seen reciting Junaid’s popular Naat, ‘Ilahi Teri Chokhat Pe Bikhari Ban Ke Aya Hun’. It was one of the most heart wrenching Naats of Junaid Jamshed and will always be remembered.
Earlier, Junaid Jamshed’s eldest son Taimur wrote a Facebook post and revealed that Junaid Jamshed had been praying for ‘martyrdom’. He further wrote, “One of his companions told me that during one of his sermons in Chitral, he stopped and asked everyone to say Ameen to his dua which was, Aye Allah, mujhe apni rah mein shahadat naseeb farma.”
After the success of first Pakistan Super League, the second season is now just around the corner and will possibly start in February 2017. Ali Zafar had been a part of the first season of PSL as he sang the anthem and performed at the opening ceremony too. So just like last time, PSL will this time again have a brand new song and the singer will be none other than Ali Zafar.
PSl’s first season’s official anthem was ‘Ab Khel Ke Dikha’ and the second edition’s will be ‘Ab Khel Jamay Ga’. With the PSL coming soon, it is a reason to celebrate for all the cricket lovers out there.
The questions! I watched one of these episodes with the kids around and the baby crying caught their attention and forget Sajal worrying about society’s questions, my kids had loads – why is the baby crying? Why is the mama just standing there? Is she naughty? Ohhh, why does the Khala have the baby? Is Khala naughty then? Ah – bingo! Khala is definitely ‘naughty’! Naughty being a milder version of the words that should be actually used to describe Sajal. She has convinced herself that Aina is manhoos and yes we had been dealing with that the past few episodes and although these also swayed in that direction, death of poor Nadia Bhabhi in the end took the focus off Aina and her manhoos-ness!
Even in her shock and depression, it was absolutely deplorable and unforgivable of Sajal to throw out her pregnant sister like that. Thank God for her neighbour who seems to be hanging around Sajal’s house more and well, good for Aina that she does for she manages to take her to the hospital in time. Sajal has a momentary twinge of guilty conscience or wait – was it because she was more concerned about the baby that she was adamant to pass of as her own? I was a bit upset when Faraz seemed to be a bit fed up with Aina in the previous episodes but I am glad he is sane and worries about her and has not begun to sing the same tune as his wife!
It was actually heartbreaking how Sajal does not want Aina around herself or Maaz and minces no words or misses no opportunity in making her feelings known. I liked what Faraz said about how they were daughters of one mother and to give up on the manhoos rant but Aina has become manhoos, bechari and now ayah Aina. I suppose one of the good things about this play is that where I had resigned myself almost to seeing Aina constantly in that light, I was pleasantly surprised to see how her neighbour managed to drill some sense into Aina. Till now Aina had accepted she had made a mistake and then was just going with the flow, patiently taking Sajal’s spiteful comments in stride but she seemed to rouse out of her slumber and went about looking for a job. I also liked how she gave Sajal the shut up call when she was ironing her clothes. Good for Aina!
I have to say this ‘when my wife is pregnant’ Mohsin is quite a pleasant man. He won me over with the ‘don’t cook, I will order something’. A man who makes that offer himself wins some serious brownie points in my opinion, haha! He has always been quite short with Nadia but I am glad that she felt loved these last few months. There is no love lost between him and Aina and while Sajal’s anger is a bit blown out of proportion, I sort of like how Faraz, Mohsin, Aina and Nadia’s personalities in relation to each other have been presented. They are family and have grown up together and raised by the same woman (well minus Nadia),so while they have their differences, nobody is out to cause any serious harm or grievance to another. The way Aina jumped in to help with Nadia’s situation and Mohsin is shown to worry about Aina being on her own just made the characters more relatable to me.
Poor Faraz – he should just not answer his mobile phone for each time he does it is only bad news. Once with Sajal’s fall, then Aina in the hospital and then Nadia. He should probably just give it to Aina who still does not have mobile phone I could not help notice! If she had rung Imran’s mother from her own phone, then when bari bi got off that bed in her sari to fetch the number she could have given Aina’s direct number and saved Imran the confusion caused by the housemaid answering the phone. Also, Aina could have avoided overhearing what Mohsin said when Nadia answered the phone thinking it was Sajal.
It would seem obvious now that Aina will step in or be thrown in by an eager Sajal to help take care of Mohsin’s children. I am honestly quite interested to see how things fare between Mohsin and Aina for I can not seem to recall any one on one interaction of the two and even amongst a crowd, Mohsin was always quite exasperated and far from fond of Aina and she did not seem to like him much either. Hoping to see much less of Sajal – this character has so much negativity that I am amazed Faraz still declares to be in love with her! Even before she was dealt the blow about not being able to conceive she has only constantly been mean to Aina and her self pity and self importance are getting on my nerves!
With Imran and Aini, I do not know, nikkah nama na hua tau magic wand ho gaya that as soon as they get married, their roles are reversed and Imran has the upper hand. Imran acts like he was bullied into a corner and finally gave in but now is seeking some pleasure from his spiteful acts but he fails to impress me. Definitely not rooting for him to patch up with Aina at some point and want to send him a virtual slap when he sinks into ‘I was made to give up my muhabbat’,etc!
I will be honest when I say the constant crying in the past few episodes had dampened my interest in this drama a bit which is also why I was not really eager to watch these episodes but they drew me in and I am glad to have the drama pick up again. I like Naveen Waqar as Aina because I feel she has portrayed her character really well. Sajal’s psychotic attitude must have rubbed off on me because I actually thought Emaad Irfani acted well in the hospital scene and I even shed a tear or two when he sat at Nadia’s deathbed. But jokes aside, I felt he was able to present a mellow, caring Mohsin much better than the head wobbling and about to blast off, angry Mohsin in the earlier episodes. I also like how Aina’s makeup and hair seems to be in line with her scenes where she is not heavily dolled up when she was in the hospital for instance. The simplicity of the clothes the characters wear, something which I would normally not notice, blends in nicely with the portrayal of a seemingly normal middle class family. I will miss poor Nadia for she was such a positive, pleasant character – but then lif moves on,eh?
What did you all think of these two episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Ohkay so, like all the previous episodes of Sang e Marmar, this one was absolutely amazing too. I think I need to look for a new intro when it comes to Sang e Marmar because just the way the makers of this drama give us beautiful episodes week after week, I keep on praising them the same way week after week too. I love how this drama has so much of balance, it’s like the director knew that the story could become a bit too heavy & dense for the viewers, so he made sure to turn one page of the past at a time for the viewers to grasp everything that happened & also to understand the reasons that lead the story to a certain event. If we take a closer look at the pattern of each episode, each & every single week, the drama-makers made us familiar with one grave situation from the past because they knew that the viewers won’t be able to handle more than once such incident per episode.
Well, what Gulistan Khan did with Baraan Khan is most certainly open to different interpretations but yes, keeping the judgments aside, I will say that I felt bad when Gulistan broke down. Imagine the pain he must have been through & imagine the pain his father must’ve been feeling, that he chose to put an end to his life himself. I am sure it wasn’t easy for Gulistan to see his father in that condition in the first place, it never is easy for any child to see their parents suffer, but it must’ve taken Gulistan a lot to do what his father told him to because even he must’ve had enough of seeing his father in pain. So, this revelation put an end to all the speculations that the viewers made about the fact that may be Gulistan himself killed his father for power, authority or money but no, all he did was fulfill his father’s wishes. Even though, for that particular moment, I did feel bad for what Gulistan had to do, but the very next moment, I was also reminded of what Gulistan Khan did to Torah’s mother too. May be this was karma’s spin on Gulistan Khan that where he took life of someone’e else’s parent, he himself faced such a situation in life where he had to take his own father’s life with his own hands too. Honestly speaking, when the episode began & we saw Torah reminiscing about his mother & seeing a few of those flashbacks of Rakshi having a good time with her kids, I didn’t really understand the reason why all of a sudden the director was showing us Rakshi & her kids, but the moment we made it to the scene of Baraan & Gulistan Khan, I then knew how & why the director established the connection between Rakshi, Baraan & Gulistan Khan. I always say that I don’t really like when the drama-makers leave so much for the viewers’ imagination, but this is most certainly not the case with Sang e Marmar, it is because in the initial episodes, the director has made us familiar with all the necessary situations & scenarios, that now when he only shows us some snippets from the past, the viewers immediately find out the connection between different events, which is absolutely amazing. In my opinion, it is like the director Saife Hassan, even by showing us everything, still keeps us engaged in such a way that he gives us some points to ponder while we’re watching the episode, to make the entire experience a bit more engrossing & enjoyable & for that I thank him once again. Thank you so much Mr. Director for giving us this beautiful beautiful beautiful drama!!!
I loved the transition that Shireen showed in this episode, where from being jealous of Palwasha, Shireen then came to a closure by handing over the peacock feather; the most prized possession of hers to Palwasha to finally convince herself that a few things weren’t meant to be & she had to move on. I loved how the director in the beginning of the episode very subtly showed that Shireen grew envious because of which she literally rubbed the temple of her forehead in hatred because Palwasha tended to the bruise that Shireen got, but later on she understood that Aurang didn’t belong to her & Palwasha most certainly wasn’t responsible for what Shireen went through, so she made herself understand that it was better for her to accept the reality & not think about something that wasn’t possible anymore. I think because of the way Gulistan & Shameem take care of Shireen & how they treat her with so much of love & respect, despite not wanting to, Shireen would convince herself to accept Safiullah so that she can give birth to the grandchild that Gulistan is waiting for. Shireen has always been quite selfless where when she becomes affectionate towards someone, she goes out of the way to do everything in her might to please them, so this time around, I believe she will mentally prepare herself for this journey too, because she has developed a lot of respect & love for Gulistan & Shameem.
Aurang finally took Gullalai to the doctor & I liked their little interactions. Gullalai actually sounded like someone who for the first time in her life stepped outside of her village & outside of her comfort zone, because of which she was anxious & curious to see how things were going to work out in her favor. I am not sure why & even though I feel I might be wrong because this drama has always been quite unpredictable, but I have a feeling may be something huge is going to happen & may be this time around, Safiullah will pay the price, due to which Gullalai might not be able to see him again, because Torah & Safiullah are planning something against Saif ur Rehman, so this is just a thought that crossed my mind because the way they both parted at a sweet little note, I felt may be they might not see each other again, but let’s see!!!
Surprisingly, Torah wasn’t unhappy when Palwasha informed him about what Shameem did & how she gave her approval for Palwasha & Aurang’s marriage. May be because Torah knows that out of all the family members, Aurang is the sanest & most decent person & most importantly, Palwasha likes him, otherwise I actually thought that may be Torah will once again start thinking about the ways to manipulate his sister but he has always done everything to please Palwasha so for her sake, he would happily agree to her & Aurang’s marriage. The way Torah complimented Sherbano, for the first time I felt that may be he loves her a lot because going by the flashback of their wedding scene, Torah seemed pretty happy, it looked like he wholeheartedly accepted this marriage but it was Sherbano who drew the line so Torah chose to abide by it, but seeing how he looked at her, I felt he actually loves her a lot, because of which he puts up with everything that Sherbano throws his way. I don’t know why but for the first time I feel I’d like to see Torah & Sherbano together, finding happiness in their marriage because they both deserve their fair share of happiness too & it will be quite interesting I believe!
Finally, Durkhane found a way to Shireen’s home & with a lot of determination, she made sure she gets to meet her best friend before her brother arrives. It was actually heart-touching to see Shireen happy & Durkhane walking an extra mile for her friend. Even though Sherbano didn’t leave a good impression on Durkhane, it was good to see that the rest of the family members treated Shireen’s friend with a lot of respect, because this way, Durkhane will return with her heart at ease & her mind at peace & more than that, she will be able to tell everyone that Shireen’s condition is not as dire as people think it is. Finally, Shireen got a breather & she got to share everything that she had in her heart. It was actually sweet of Durkhane to inform Shrieen that Saif ur Rehman already started regretting his decision & more than that, she intends to tell him the truth if he will inquire about it one more time. Palwasha eavesdropped on their conversation, but it was actually good that she got an insight into Shireen’s heart that she no longer has anything to do with Aurang & she wishes well for Palwasha & Aurang. I don’t know why, I still feel may be Palwasha will play the cupid seeing how nice & selfless Shireen is, or if not, this is what I would love to see honestly.
Overall, this episode was perfect like all the previous episodes of Sang e Marmar. I had such a good laugh seeing Bulbul having the time of his life even in such a dire situation, he most certainly gave Baroo Kaka a hard time & sadly got a beating for it. The preview of the next episode seemed quite promising & got me excited already. Torah is not going to sit still now as he will try to get Safiullah enraged by using Shireen’s name, but he won’t be lying because this is what he thinks is the truth that the girl Gohar was involved with was Shireen. I loved the conversation Shameem had with Durkhane & Shireen, she always brings a smile to my face. It is actually quite nice to see that Shireen has such a loving mother in law who actually treats her like her own daughter. Even though at the moment Gulistan is also being considerate towards Shireen because of his own ulterior motives, still it feels good to know that at least Shireen is not being mistreated & at least Sherbano can’t target her because her father doesn’t allow that to happen. This episode once again belonged to all the actors but the star of this episode for me was the director Saife Hassan because of the way he directed this episode so intelligently & with so much of control over all the situations. Even by leaving a lot of things at the viewer’s imagination, Saife Hassan didn’t falter & did justice to his position as a director & I thank him once again for that. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful beautiful beautiful episode of Sang e Marmar.

Post the Uri attacks, Pakistani cinema owners had decided to stop screening Bollywood films until tensions between the countries cool down. Though the political situations are no better but Pakistani cinema owners have lifted the self imposed ban on Bollywood films due to the loss faced.
Films like ‘Pink and Freaky Ali’ which were already screened in Pakistani before the ban, are screened again but the new Indian films might not release anytime soon. Earlier, there was news that new Bollywood films will release in Pakistan but the latest reports suggest, that Indian distributors are not willing to release their films in Pakistan at least till the things cool down.
Dawnrevealed, that the owner of Cineplex at Centaurus,Nadeem Mandviwala said, “Forces, which created the situation, are still trying to create hurdles. Currently those hurdles are from Indian side and once they will be removed we will know if there are hurdles from Pakistani side or not. So far we have not faced any pressure from the Pakistani side.”
“I don’t think we will get Indian movies immediately,” he added. “It can take days, weeks and even months to start screening new movies. We have lifted the ban and now it is up to Indian distributors whether they will sell movies to Pakistan. However, a debate has begun in India about it,” he said.
“Once Indian distributors agree to sell movies, we will have to get a no objection certificate (NOC) from the government. If the NOC is issued the movies will have to be cleared by Pakistan Censor Board. After that we will be in a position to say that new movies can be screened in Pakistan,” he concluded.
News about our government rejecting the NOC for Amir Khan’s upcoming film Dangal was doing rounds but the producer of the film Siddharth Roy Kapoor cleared the air.
He stated, “It is an encouraging move that they are allowing Bollywood films. And I hope over time, the two countries sort the issues that they have with each other.”
When asked if Dangal will be releasing in Pakistan, he said, “We are not going to be releasing Dangal in Pakistan. This is a call we had taken a few weeks ago, and we are sticking with that decision.”
A source in Geo revealed that the NOC for Dangal was never applied. The source also revealed that it is the Indian distributors who are reluctant to release new films in Pakistan.
I am slightly disappointed with this latest episode of Shehrnaz because for the first time I felt like there were many developments which were not as convincing as one would have hoped for them to be. With this episode Shehrnaz stepped in the world of showbiz. Her overall personality was introduced in detail in the past few episodes but the complete change in her character (not just her attitude) was difficult to relate to especially because of the multiple times Shehrnaz proved that for her self-respect came before everything else. What Sherry did was definitely terrible but what Shehrnaz did as a reaction was even more impulsive as well as desperate and definitely not in line with her personality. It was all too sudden therefore Shehrnaz’s actions weren’t entirely justified. In my opinion this episode should have covered the repercussions Sherry’s action had on Shehrnaz and gradually after leaving no stone unturned she should have gone to KK for help because accepting KK’s offer too would have meant that Shehrnaz would have to trade her dignity in order to take revenge from Sherry. Even after being tricked by Sherry, she was willing to sign the contract without reading it. The viewers had no way of knowing what was going on in Shehrnaz’s mind except that she wanted to take revenge from Sherry at any cost which is why she was willing to sacrifice anything and everything. Basically, Shehrnaz went from being wise to becoming a complete fool in the span of 10 minutes! The character most us fell in love with changed entirely in this episode and this sudden change was just as rushed as Sherry and Shehrnaz’s “engagement”.
Also, Shehrnaz’s career just like Sherry and Shehrnaz’s relationship was covered in a few minutes. This was the moment many of the viewers had been waiting for but we did not get to see Shehrnaz growing/changing as a person or taking steps forward in her career in stages but it was a big leap forward without showing much-needed details. The preview of the next episode suggests that Shehrnaz and KK’s “relationship” will be covered just as callously as was Sherry and Shehrnaz’s relationship. I absolutely love the overall feel and the general idea of this play but the writer does not have a strong grip on the story and the director has not added the details which were needed to make the viewers understand some important developments. The viewers were never shown the relationship dynamics between Shehrnaz and Sherry and same is the case with her relationship with KK as well. KK wanted Shehrnaz all to himself, which suggests he wanted more than just “friendship” therefore the writer cannot just overlook this aspect of their relationship!
The way KK bribed the university Chancellor/Headmaster was another scene which was executed poorly. This scene should have been more subtle, no matter how rich or influential a person is, the head of a university won’t take bribe this openly. Even after everything Sherry did to her somehow Shehrnaz did not look too happy watching him suffer and the preview of the next episode also suggests that she is not over him just yet! Shehrnaz is losing focus fast and the way her blunders are being shown is somewhat hypocritical because the writer is showing her making these bad decisions but he still wants the viewers to see Shehrnaz as the person she was introduced as. It would have been far better if viewers were shown all these developments in detail and more openly and if the viewers were given the choice to feel whichever way they wanted to about Shehrnaz. In my opinion the writer was too worried about keeping Shehrnaz’s “image” alive to show this particular development in Shehrnaz’s life more openly which has led to confusion.
Ayeza Khan, Aly Khan and Sajid Hassan once again acted brilliantly in this episode but overall it did not have the impact which an episode covering such important developments in Shehrnaz’s life should have had.
How many of you watched this latest development? Do share your thoughts about it.

Tum inn dono Kutto ke beech mein haddi bankey kyun reh rahi ho… Habibullah has made his interest in Kulsoom a matter of great pride and expects Kulsoom will throw herself at him. Kulsoom saw her mother’s cold reaction and understood that it’s futile to expect her mother to change and tried to get Haroon to feel the connection she has with him due to their marriage. Habibullah is now trying to get Kuksoom to understand that her relationship with Haroon is a sin as she never gave her consent at the time of the nikah. He’s trying to nullify the sanctity of marriage but Kulsoom put forth her conditions- she would only opt out of this marriage if Haroon were to divorce her. Kulsoom is beginning to realize that Habibullah is a master manipulator and he wouldn’t order Haroon to divorce Kulsoom because he would have no reason to keep her in his home if she were to get divorced.
Kulsoom tries to get Bibi on her side by declaring her desires to become a mother- she knows that Habibullah has ordered Haroon to maintain his distance but if Bibi were to say otherwise, Habibullah would have to give in. However, gone are the days when Bibi had a say in any matters- with her pregnancy, Bibi’s role has been reduced to the background and Habibullah has even started questioning her role in Bilal’s growing fearlessness.
I didn’t quite get why Habibullah wants to use Bilal to get rid of Haroon. I didn’t get why he orchestrated Nimmo’s meeting with Kulsoom when he knew Kulsoom would never consent to having Haroon murdered. She may not love him, but he’s her support system and she would rather have a relationship with her husband than out of wedlock. Kulsoom has matured overnight and has gotten a grip over her feelings- she knows Bilal is no longer an option and doesn’t want to continue being an object of Habibullah’s desires either.
Yeh Rishta toot toh sakta hai Magar bhulaya nahin Jaa sakta… Kulsoom continues holding her stance that come what may, she will not cross her boundaries as she hold marriage in the highest regard. With the help of Wali, Habibullah arranged to have Bilal attack Haroon but it didn’t reap the results he was hoping for although it did pave the way for him to completely sideline Bibi by holding her responsible for empowering Bilal. With Bibi against Kulsoom, it’s only a matter of time before Kulsoom gives in.
Tahira’s silence upon hearing Nimmo’s narrative goes to show that she’s fully aware that her daughter is being violated but for the sake of her izzat and prosperity, she chooses not to react. As a woman and mother, Tahira is a complete failure. Her lack of compassion and andha akeedah have pushed Kulsoom into the state she’s in. Meher Nigar is scared for her son’s life yet she rushed to warn Tahira of her conversation with Kulsoom.
I still don’t see how Habibullah will manage to neutralize Bibi to the extent of accepting his dusri shadi especially now that she’s going to give him an heir. Also, tarnishing Kulsoom in front of her is only going to make her want to get rid of Kulsoom ASAP. I don’t know if Bibi will be the one to end Habibullah’s games but I would really like to see him getting severely punished for everything he has done and managed to get away with.
Next week’s promo looks interesting but I’m sure it won’t be as straightforward as it seems. Many more twists await which is what keeps my interest intact. What about you?
The revival of Pakistani Cinema is perhaps the biggest achievement of Pakistani Showbiz in recent years. Looking back from late 80’s to early 2000 Pakistani Film Industry went into slump following the death of Waheed Murad in 1983. Mid 90’s regained some audience attention but till then it was Bollywood all over the place.
The release of Film Khuda Kay Liye in 2007 and BOL in 2011 ushered the wave for revival of this Industry. Then Films like Waar, NaMaloom Afraad, Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, Bin Roye and Wrong Number led the phrase “Revival of Pakistani Cinema”. Young Bloods certainly played a spirited role in rejuvenating our film industry. Though Audience are finally preferring Pakistani Films as it continue to infiltrate Cinema but still our film producers need to decipher Cinematography. There is still room available for upgrading and development.
Despite sheer amount of talent available, Pakistan Music Industry is now in complete disarray but it is wrong to state that no efforts are being made to revive Music Industry of Pakistan. The Revival of Pakistani Film Industry allowed our singers to contribute their skills to our own industry. In other words I am forecasting that Pakistan film Industry will give a helping hand to Pakistan Music Industry to clinch back again towards success and will force our audience to give priority to our own music.
Here I would like to introduce you to some best movie songs of 2016, hence the list as follows:
10. Dobara Phir Se Title Track by Hania Aslam and Ali Hamza (Dobara Phir Se): Typical Hania Aslam Style! This song might cheer you up and completely change your mood. So if you really want to listen to some different Genre of Music then Dobara Phir Se Title Track is a must go song. A perfect song if you are planning for a road trip. Dobara Phir se Movie is currently in Cinemas receiving mix reviews from audience.
9. Bachaana by Benny Dayal (Bachaana): Bachaana film received mix reviews from critics. One should agree that film camera work is absolutely different from typical Pakistani film. It grossed over RS10crore on box office collections. The movie do not offer many songs but its title song surely deserves to be in top ten list as it contains much groove and dynamism so that you can fall easily in affection with it. Great Music Composition and nicely sung by Benny Dayal.
8. Befikriyan by Aima Baig (Lahore se Aagey): It’s quite difficult for new entrant to mark his/her place when there is already so much talent available in music industry. With the ability to sing differently Aima Baig showcased her skills successfully when she finally got a chance to sing three tracks for film Lahore se Aagey. Befikriyan song is absolutely energetic and extremely well sung by Aima.
7. Tutya Tara by Adnan (Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai): Lead singer of Soch band and official shareholder of popular song “Awari” Adnan Dhool is also marking his spot in music industry. Due to Adnan’s brilliant vocals and perfect composition the song deserves a place in top ten list of best movie songs of 2016.
6. Chulbul by Bilal Saeed and Sana Zulfiqar (Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai): This song finally fulfilled audience demand for a cool party rap song. Lately there is a fondness among audience for party songs. This song is a sign of replacement for Bollywood party songs but I do agree that one song is not enough and we need to produce more songs like this. The film box office collection grossed over 100 million and is still on screen.
5. Qatra Qatra by Amanat Ali and Elizabeth Raji (Teri Meri Love Story): After Listening to this song all I can say that it is time to say Goodbye to Bollywood. The song is seriously music to your ears, the melody adapted in it plus soothing voice of Amanat Ali and Elizabeth mark it as the best romantic song of 2016. The film didn’t performed well on screen but its songs are worth listening.
4. Dil yeh Dancer hogaya by Atif Aslam (Actor in Law): Atif Aslam’s soul-stirring renditions always creates a magic for his fans. His blissful voice force you to fall in love with his songs. Dil Yeh Dancer Hogaya is a song with simple melody but each time you listen to it you will love it. Actor in Law Movie is currently the highest grossing film of 2016 at box office. If we keep making these types of films, we can give easily a blow-back to Bollywood Movies.
3. Kelabaaz by Aima Baig (Lahore say Aagey): Lahore say Aagey was the most anticipated movie of the year and considered as a sequence of film Karachi se Lahore. The song Kelabaaz Dil is also the hit song of 2016. Retaining a unique voice with Western tone Aima Baig finally told her critics that she is a real deal here. The song is absolutely perfect for parties and Weddings as well. The music and energy blend in this song will keep you burning this track and that’s why in my view it deserves to be on number 3 spot.
2. Janaan by Armaan Malik (Janaan): So relaxing indeed, this song gives peace to your mind. Incredibly sung by Armaan Malik, Janaan title song surely deserves to be in top 3 movie songs of 2016. The film was heavily promoted by its cast and producers and it also did financially well on Big Screen grossing over Rs300 million.
1. Lar Gaiyan by Zarish Hafeez and Shiraz Uppal (Dobara Phir Se): This is absolutely a perfect song to be played in Weddings. I am glad that Industry is building a Portfolio of Wedding Songs. Last year there were two Wedding songs “Ballay Ballay” from film Bin Roye and “Shakar Wandaan” from film Ho Mann Jahan. Our Weddings are mostly covered by Bollywood songs but hopefully we will see a change in future and audience our music on Weddings. This Song deserves number 1 spot in my List as it is perfectly tuned for soaring Nuptial fever.
The bread winner for singers is their vocals, our music industry is struggling because our singers aren’t getting any permanent platform to earn some handsome bucks. The rise of Film Industry can only be a perfect platform for our singers to earn decent amount of money and to exhibit their talent. Our nation is heavily indulge in Bollywood songs and we need to start giving priority to our own music ASAP.
So what are your favourite Movie songs of 2016? Feel free to add the list!
Tensions between the neighbours grew post the URI attacks. The aftermath of the political tensions between the countries has still not ended and is affecting ‘ART’ every now and then. Pakistani cinemas have now finally started screening Indian films but India, on the other hand has no plans to lift the ban imposed on Pakistani artists.
MNS had previously threatened to stop Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s release and the film could only get a safe release after the director of the film, Karan Johar donated INR 5 crore. Raees on the other hand is safe from the MNS threat for now since Shah Rukh Khan had assured the MNS leader that Mahira Khan will not be coming to India for Raees promotions.
According to the Indian Express, On December 19th, the MNS refused to lift the ban on Pakistani Artists.
“Though Pakistan resume screening of Indian cinema, our stand will remain unchanged, until Pak stops attacks on Indian lands,” Ameya Khopkar, who heads the cinema wing of the MNS, said in a tweet.
Pakistani Cinema’s have already started screening Bollywood films since December 19th.
The singer turned Islamic preacher Junaid Jamshed lost his life in a tragic plane crash. The ill-fated plane crashed near Havelian while it was on the way to Islamabad. Junaid was an influential personality, his death came as a shock to the whole nation and many singers paid their tributes to him. The singing sensation Atif Aslam too recently paid tribute to Junaid Jamshed and he did in a different way. During his concert in Lahore, he made the crowd nostalgic while singing Junaid’s iconic song ‘Aitebar’
The year 2016 is concluding in a weeks time. With respect to cinema it has been a mixed year, the cinema business sustained in the first three quarters of the year. In October 2016, the cinema owners and distributors announced a ban on the release of Bollywood movies which hugely impacted the business of cinemas in the last quarter of 2016. The self imposed ban is finally lifted on 19th December 2016.
While there are tales of success and failures at the box office, there are also few films which were denied the right of screening by the government authorities. In our country in order to screen a film it must get a screening certificate or censor certificate from the three censor boards active in our country
Punjab Board for Film Certification (PBFC) has jurisdiction over the whole Punjab province excluding the cantonment areas. Sind Board for Film Certification (SBFC) covers the whole province of Sindh excluding the cantonement areas. Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) covers the provinces of Balochistan, KPK and Federal Capital Islamabad as well as the Federally administered areas of FATA, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. CBFC also covers the cantonment areas of Punjab and Sindh provinces.
In order to screen a locally produced film it must get a screening certificate from any of these three film certification boards. For the foreign films an additional step is required. At the first step the distributor writes to the Federal Ministry of Commerce with the intention to import a film. After examining the content of the film the Ministry of Commerce issues a Non Objection Certificate (NOC) to the distributor and the film is imported. Once imported the film must obtain a screening certificate from any of the three functional Film Certification Boards like a local film. The film certification boards can also seek the advise of Federal Ministry of Information for the screening of a film if the board does not reach a decision about the screening of the film.
This article is a compilation of all such films which failed to get either the NOC for import or the screening certificate from the Film Certification boards and thus banned from releasing in the cinemas. The most frequent reason put forth by the government authorities (Ministry of Commerce/Information or Film Certification Boards) for banning these films was the Anti-State or Anti-Pakistan content or theme of these films. Apart from Anti-State content reason, some films were banned due to adult or mature content.
Most of the films (99.9%) banned were Indian Bollywood films, whereas one local Urdu film also came under the axe of censor.
One film Sarabjit included in this list was not banned, but it is included here due to rumors of its ban.
Kiya Kool Hain Hum 3 (کیا کول ہیں ہم 3)
The first banned film of 2016 was the Bollywood’s Kiya Kool Hain Hum 3 (KKHH3). Due to release on the 22nd January 2016, the film was duly imported on time and presented before the CBFC.
Generally in Pakistan, the content of the Bollywood film is regarded as obscene and bold. But ironically the same films prove the first choice of the cine goers and perform very well.
The Film Certification board which seldom shows discontent over the obscene content of Bollywood films banned KKHH3 on the same basis. The content of Kiya Kool Hain Hum was declared “out-and-out obscene” by the CBFC chairperson Mobashir Hasan.
As per Mobashir Hasan
“It is an out-and-out obscene film that not only shows nudity but also has a lot of vulgar content in its dialogues. The board has officially disallowed the film from public viewing and sent a show-cause notice to the distributor,” Mobashir Hasan, the CBFC chairperson told The Express Tribune. “The problem with this film is that we couldn’t even allow it with an Adult rating, it so vulgar,” he further added.
Fakhre-Alam, chairperson of the Sindh Board of Film Certification (SBFC) echoed Mobashir’s sentiments. “The film is not suitable for screening,” said Fakhar. “All boards, including Punjab and Sindh, find it unsuitable for public exhibition in cinemas.”
Out right rejection by the three Film Certification Authorities handed the film the distinction of the first banned film of 2016.
Neerja (نیرجا)
Due to release on 19th February 2016, Bollywood’s Neerja was based on the courage of Neerja Bhanot an Indian air steward.
The film centers on the Libyan-backed Abu Nidal Organization’s hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, on 5 September 1986. The film is shown from the point of view of the flight’s head purser, Neerja Bhanot, who thwarted the hijack attempt by alerting the pilots, thus grounding the plane; Bhanot gave her life to help save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board.
The Government of Pakistan recognized the contributions of Neerja Bhanot by awarding her Tamgha-e-Insaaniyat (for showing incredible human kindness). However the same government represented by the Ministry of Commerce has other ideas regarding the screening of this film in Pakistan.
Initially the Ministry of Commerce issued the NOC to the distributor IMGC required to import the film. However later it revoked the NOC without stating any exact reason. Without any NOC, the film was not imported in Pakistan and thus not presented for the film certification.
Maalik (مالک) Maalik (مالک) is a locally produced Urdu film released on 8th April 2016 after obtaining the screening certificates from all the three Film Certification boards. The film marked the comeback of Dhuwaan (1994 PTV drama) famed Aashir Azeem after a gap of almost 20 years. The film was directed and produced by Aashir who also played the lead role. The film performed average at box office and entered third week of business before making headlines in the press.
After screening for three weeks suddenly the SBFC revoked its screening license objecting at its content as anti-state and presenting some ethnicities in an irresponsible manner and thus its screening halted in the Sindh province. Aashir Azeem obtained a stay order from the Sindh High Court against the decision of SBFC. Two days later CBFC added the further twist to this tale by revoking the screening license of Maalik thus depriving it from screening through out Pakistan. CBFC stated the same reason of anti-state theme, provoking violence and irresponsible depiction of few ethnicities.
Aashir Azeem challenged the decision of the CBFC in the superior court. After three months of hearing the superior court allowed the screening of the film in September 2016. Thus Maalik was re-released in September 2016 and continued screening through out September and October.
The hurdles faced by Aashir Azeem regarding the screening of Maalik eventually lead to an announcement of shelving his next project for an indefinite time period.
Sarabjit (سربجیت)
Released in India on 19th May 2016, Bollywood’s Sarabjit is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh. Sarabjit Singh was an Indian spy who was caught, trialed and imprisoned in Pakistan. He was killed in the prison after an attack by a fellow prisoner.
No distributor from Pakistan contacted the Ministry of Commerce for NOC to import this film. Thus the film is never imported nor presented before the Film certification board. Still the film was part of rumors that it is banned in Pakistan. Officially it is not banned as no distributor asked the government for NOC at is not presented before any government bodies.
Dishoom (ڈیشوم)
Bollywood’s Dishoom was due to release on 29th July 2016. The film was duly imported by the distributor after obtaining an NOC from the Ministry of Commerce. However the film failed to obtain a screening certificate from CBFC.
As per the press reports, the film Dishoom shows the two leads attempting to kidnap an Indian cricketer before an India-Pakistan cricket match in UAE. CBFC initially approved the screening but referred it to the Ministry of Informtion for further advice. The ministry of Information eventually decided against its screening declaring negative portrayal of Pakistan in the film as the reason.
As the film was imported, its was advertised in the print media by its distributor. The lead artist of the film Varun Junaid Dhawan also displayed his disappointment in a tweet when the film was not released in Pakistan.
Bollywood’s Happy Bhaag Jaye Gi (HPJG) was due to release on 19th August 2016. The film stars Pakistani artist Javed Sheikh and his daughter Moomal Sheikh in supporting roles.
The film was duly imported by the distributor and presented before CBFC. Being a film of light comedy genre it was expected to pass the axe of the censor board easily. The film was promoted by its distributor in the print media. It was expected to do well in Pakistan due to the presence of local artists. Unexpectedly the film faced a last minute road block in the CBFC. CBFC objected to few scenes and dialogues of the film which as per them were anti-Pakistan.
Eventually the CBFC referred the film to the Ministry of Information and in the end the film was not released. The ban was unexpected as no one thought that a light comedy Bollywood film can be declared as anti-Pakistan by Ministry of Information.
– “Teri Bhai Ki Shaadi Rukwanay Mae Parosi Mulka Ka Haath HaiIndia Ka Namak, Poora Pakistan Khaata Hai”
– “Teen Hindustanion Nae Lahore Ko Waqt Dala Hai”
Javed Sheikh and Moomal Sheikh were criticized for working in the film which was deemed inappropriate by the CBFC. However Moomal and Javed defended their act as none of the objectionable scene or dialog was shot on them.
Happy Bhaag Jaye Gi promotional poster in an Urdu Daily
Happy Bhaag Jaye Gi was the last banned film of the year 2016. As stated above in October 2016 a wholesome ban on the Bollywood films was announced by film distributors and exhibitors which lasted till 19th December 2016. Now the ban has been lifted and screening of the Bollywood films will commence in coming weeks. However no Bollywood film is expected to be added in this list in the remaining one week of the year 2016.
Do share your thoughts on the banned films of 2016. Especially Maalik which was banned first allowed screening and then banned and eventually superior court removed the ban.
Also comment on the banning of Bollywood films like Happy Bhaag Jaye Gi and Dishoom which were of comedy genre but still failed to clear the censor board criteria. Also in case of Neerja does our censor board and relevant ministry is over reacting to any Bollywood film which has a reference to Pakistan?
Taher Shah rose to fame with his songs ‘eye to eye’ and ‘angel’. His first song made him an overnight sensation and the second one is the 10th most watched video on YouTube in Pakistan. Taher was recently seen doing a cameo in the latest online film ‘Oye Kuch Kar Guzar’. Unfortunately the popular singer is now in trouble and left Pakistani after receiving threats.
According to a statement released by his management, the singer left the country after receiving life threats. “Pakistan’s famous singer Taher Shah, who is known for spreading love through his music had been receiving life threats for quite some time,” said the statement available with The Express Tribune.
The statement further quoted “Recently Shah made his film debut with Pakistan’s first online film and it seems like the haters are not admiring his approach of using arts to the benefit of mankind. Perhaps that is the reason why he was getting threats. Shah was left heartbroken when the government failed to provide him security and as a result of which he decided to leave Pakistan.”
It was confirmed by Taher’s manager that he departed from Karachi this Tuesday. In conversation with a local newspaper, Shah’s manager Affan said, “Even I don’t know where he has gone to but he has left Pakistan for sure.”
Ohkay so, this episode of Moray Saiyaan was interesting because a new character got introduced but as I watched the episode more & more, a few questions were raised in my mind. Even though I have no complaints with the plot or even the story-line of the drama & I like the way the characters have been elaborated, I think the family politics have been explained in such a way that every once in a while you spot a loophole in the situations or scenarios. So, with that being said, I had a great time watching this episode of Moray Saiyaan too & I can’t wait to see what more do they have in store for us.
I actually thought that after everything that Ghaziyan has said & how he has explained himself, if not Zakia, at least Waris will understand where he was coming from. At least, being a father of Ghaziyan & someone who has firsthand seen how a marriage can fail, he wouldn’t impose this marriage on his son but Waris chose not to budge, because he had Zakia hovering around him as a reminder of how Waris ruined her life & how similarly, his son Ghaziyan was ruining her daughter’s life too. I really think Zakia needs to do some reflection & she needs to look back at all the things that her brother has done for her, how he has given her a comfortable lifestyle, how he supported her children, also, Waris actually chose a good life partner for her & he was just as much oblivious of Kabeer’s first marriage as Zakia herself was, so how can she keep on remininding Waris again & again about the marriage that she chose to walk out from? So what if out of all the things that she has planned & all the people she has controlled, there is one guy who doesn’t want to follow her orders & feels entitled to be choosing his own life partner? Zakia really needs some reflection to do.
All this while, Nimra chose to portray herself as a very strong girl, who to some extent convinced herself that yes, Ghaziyan was not into the idea of getting married to her, but I believe it were the constant reminders of Zakia that pushed her into that phase of depression, where she felt her life was over & if not, she had to do something to get over with this life because Ghaziyan was the only reason of her existence. Nimra not only complicated matters for herself, but she complicated everything related to everyone, because now, things will be even more difficult for Zakia, for Waris & also for Ghaziyan as Zakia will blame Ghaziyan for the step that Nimra has taken, Zakia will also emotionally blackmail her brother Waris & then Waris will tell Ghaziyan to compensate for pushing Nimra to this point!
The addition of Kabeer was interesting & I have no issues with him showing up at this stage of the drama but somehow the writer couldn’t convince me to believe that while Farah; Kabeer’s daughter in law was in contact with Gul Zeb, Kabeer never once asked Farah how his family back home was doing? Also, I am not really sure how’s this possible that Gul Zeb never once tried to ask Farah about Kabeer’s contact number so that she could speak to him & tell him about everything that was happening in Pakistan? Also, when Gul Zeb was hospitalized, they showed that Farah stayed at her place with her to take care of her, so wouldn’t have Farah mentioned that Kabeer was coming to Pakistan? Also, when Kabeer met Ghaziyan & he took him to Gul Zeb’s place, Gul Zeb told them that Farah was at her place for a night stay too, so are you telling me that Altamash, who happens to be quite close to wife Farah, wouldn’t have told her that his father & Farah’s father in law was coming to Pakistan? I don’t know, somehow these little things bothered me a bit & ended up looking like small little loopholes but other than that I am happy with Kabeer’s addition in the show because looks like Zakia will now have something/someone else to obsess over & she will stop pestering Ghaziyan!
Everything that Gul Zeb told to Kabeer seemed like a news for him & he seemed agitated at what was happening in Nimra’s life, but then again, I am not sure if he is entitled to have a say in her personal affairs now because he distanced himself, so how can he boast about the fact that he is her father too? Also, in one of the conversations, it was implied that Anas was in contact with Kabeer, so that once again looked like a loophole to me that being Nimra’s brother, wasn’t he aware of what was happening in her life & how Ghaziyan was backing out from marriage? Like I am sure Zakia would’ve shared this serious issue with her son & as a concerned brother, he must’ve shared his concerns with his father Kabeer too? I don’t know, I feel they should’ve have implied throughout all the previous episodes that Kabeer was somehow in contact with one of them & he was aware of everything that was unfolding in their lives because his obliviousness didn’t make much sense to me. Also, I am not sure what’s the point of keeping Anas out of the picture till now & also, I am not sure if showing Altamash out of Pakistan is making any difference to the story?
Once again, Zubaria put forth her perspective in a stern manner where she clearly told Ghaziyan that he had to & he should get married to Nimra because out of nowhere, Zubaria was turning out to be a culprit without even wanting to be as she is not interested in Ghaziyan to begin with. It was good to see that Zubaria wanted to visit Nimra at the hospital but her friend rightly advised her not to because that would further complicate things & it will once again give Zakia a chance to blame Zubaria for something she is not even responsible for. I am actually quite interested to see that after all that has happened, how will Zubaria fall for Ghaziyan? Like Zubaria has self-respect & she is dignified enough to be drawing a line again & again because she knows that Nimra is getting hurt because Ghaziyan got interested in her & many complications have already emerged in the relationships, so I want to see what will convince Zubaria that Ghaziyan is right & he deserves her support. I am looking forward to see what will Ghaziyan do, as in to what extreme will he go, that will make Zubaria fall in love with him?
Overall, this episode was pretty decent & I had a great time watching it. The preview of the next episode seemed quite promising, looks like things are going to get further complicated because now Kabeer will step into their lives. Zubaria will face the brunt for what Nimra has done & I am sure Ghaziyan will try to rectify the situation. I enjoyed everyone’s performance in this episode & I liked most of the conversations too, especially the ones that happened between Kabeer & Ghaziyan about love & life in general. Can’t wait for the next episode already, please share your thoughts about this episode of Moray Saiyaan!
In any drama, after the writer and the director, the responsibility solely lies on the actor as to how he carries forward the drama with his or her acting because where the writer and the director do their jobs behind the camera, the actors are supposed to bring the concept and hard-work of the drama-makers to life in front of the camera. If we put it in simple words, actors are those entities who actually convey the story and make the viewers connect with the characters and understand what the drama-makers are trying to convey.
The viewers have come across a lot such drama where just because of the substandard acting of the actors, the drama couldn’t do well despite the script or the direction being good but we have seen a lot such dramas too, where just because of the phenomenal acting of the actors, a drama based on a comparatively simple script did really well in terms of popularity because the actors did their part well and elevated the level of the entire project, which struck a chord with the viewers.
Here is a list of those actors who ruled the television screens this season because of their phenomenal performances. The list is in alphabetical order.
Adnan Shah Tipu
Adnan Shah Tipu is an extraordinary character actor whose spell-binding performances always leave the viewers in awe of his talent. This is the reason why very often he is chosen to play difficult roles. Nowadays he is playing the role of Bubbly in drama serial Khuda Mera Bhi Hai which is an exceptionally tough role to play but Adnan Shah Tipu manages to pull it off flawlessly and effortlessly. He translates Bubbly’s emotions impeccably on screen and makes the viewers look forward to his scenes.
Aisha Khan
Aisha Khan’s remarkable performance in both her plays this season has impressed many viewers out there. She plays two different roles in Noor-e-Zindagi and Khuda Mera Bhi Hai but has managed to do complete justice to both of them. There are times when Aisha Khan’s make-up can be too loud even when it needs to be toned down but her acting is always flawless in both these dramas. It is good to see her being part of projects which have room for performance because she is someone who has years of experience and can be a remarkable performer if she is given meaty roles to play.
Asma Abbas
Asma Abbas is not only a brilliant performer but she is also remarkably versatile. She has proven her versatility time and again by playing roles which always have tons of rooms for performance and are never the same. This time around she is absolutely hilarious in a role which once again shows her versatility in drama serial Khoobsurat. She is one of those actors who can make you laugh and cry because her portrayals are always superb.
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan outshines in drama serial Shehrnaz because of her brilliant and confident performance. She plays the role of a girl who comes from a lower middle class background but hopes to make it big one day. This character itself had the potential to be annoying if it was not translated on screen properly. Ayeza Khan’s natural look in scenes when there is no need to look glamorous, her honest approach towards acting overall and most of all her confidence in her abilities is evident from her performance in Shehrnaz. Ayeza Khan has proved that when a performance comes straight from the heart it has a profound effect on the viewers.
Hassan Noman
After impressing people as Ilyas Kashmiri in Preet Na Kariyo Koi, Hassan Noman did is again as Bulbul Khan in Sang e Marmar. Even though till date Bulbul’s coverage got a very limited coverage, but Hassan Noman stole the show in those few scenes because of his impressive performance. Hassan Noman himself is Pathan, that is why out of all the actors, he is the one who has really put an extra effort into the Pushto Urdu accent, which sets his performance apart from the other actors. Bulbul Khan is added as a comic factor in the drama and Hassan Noman surely has done justice to it because he lights up the mood whenever he appears on our TV screens.
Hina Bayat
Hina Bayat is one of the most talented and versatile actresses of our drama industry who changes her outlook and her acting style to match the character which is playing on screen. She has played many different characters in her career, each one of them has been different and appealing. Right now her character in Dil Banjara has won the hearts of many not only because it is a character very different from the ones we see on screen usually but also because Hina Bayat has performed exceptionally well. Also, for the longest time she was the only good thing about Sanam.
Humayun Ashraf
Humayun Ashraf is seen as Abdullah in Khuda Aur Mohabbat. Humayun has been in the industry for quite some time now but his performance in Khuda Aur Mohabbat has to be the best one so far. Even though the character of Abdullah doesn’t get much coverage and is a very subtle character, Humayun Ashraf steals the show every single time he comes on screen because he does justice to the character that has been assigned to him. Humayun has made Abdullah’s one-sided love seem so pure and beautiful that one can’t help feel the purity of his intentions.
Imran Abbas
Imran Abbas is playing the main lead as Hammad in Khuda Aur Mohabbat and he has has yet again proved his mettle as an actor. The character of Hammad itself is so admirable but what makes it better is Imran Abbas’s perfect and flawless acting. Imran Abbas is one such actor who knows how to perfectly convey the emotions and feelings of love and this is why, he has made the journey of Hammad in Khuda Aur Mohabbat even more impressive and heart-warming.
Kaif Ghaznavi
A very manipulative character who makes her perspective seem justified and her scheming understandable. Kaif Ghaznavi has given a phenomenal performance as Faree; a very selfish woman who thinks only about herself first and cunningly makes it look like she is thinking about the benefit of her entire family. Kaif Ghaznavi’s persuasive tone with which her character puts forth her point of view and then convinces others to agree to it makes her performance absolutely brilliant. Kaif Ghaznavi’s dialogue delivery, expressions and very calming voice are some of the strong points of her acting.
Kubra Khan
Even though Kubra Khan has just stepped into the drama world and viewers were a little skeptical about her being a part of a drama like Sang e Marmar, Kubra Khan has put all the speculations to the rest with her beautiful performance. The way Kubra Khan has acted like Shireen, goes to show that she put her heart and soul into this performance and by paying extra heed to the director, she allowed him to guide her through to the right direction. It is only because of the treatment Kubra gave to Shireen’s character that the viewers felt her pain every step of the way. With Kubra’s beautiful performance in Sang e Marmar, she surely has raised the bar high and has also raised the viewers’ expectations from her.
Madiha Imam
Even though the drama Dhaani has lost the pace and the charm completely and at this stage of the drama, Madiha Imam is nowhere to be seen but in the first-half, Madiha Imam ruled the drama as Dhaani. Dhaani’s character was all about fun, laughter and living your life to the fullest and Madiha Imam gave a perfect treatment to the character. She elevated the level of the drama with her flawless and effortless acting to such an extent that now when her character has taken fizzled into the background, viewers are not at all happy about it.
Mahira Khan
Mahira Khan is the only saving grace of Bin Roye because of her powerful portrayal. There are many viewers who find Bin Roye worth-watching only because of Mahira Khan’s performance and they find it much easier to connect to Saba’s character than any other character in the play. Mahira Khan has grown tremendously as an actress and she is one of those few actresses who never rely on make-up which gives her characters a more natural feel.
Masroor Paras
Masroor Paras is seen as Torah Khan in Sang e Marmar and he most certainly has the viewers hooked to his character and his acting. Masroor Paras got to play the most complicated character in the drama but it is because of his phenomenal acting that the thought process of such a twisted character was made so easy for the viewers to understand. It is a very tough job to make a manipulative character like Torah seem justified for what he does and Masroor Paras has achieved that, that too in his very first project, which is commendable. The way Masroor Paras has changed his body language and overall persona to fit the image of a Pathan male in this drama goes to show that he is a character actor and will go a long way because he surely is a find of our industry.
Najiba Faiz
Najiba Faiz plays the role of Gullalai in Sang e Marmar, a woman who has been married for quite some time now but has been unable to have a child. Gullalai is a strong woman who is dealing with pressures in a very dignified way. Najiba Faiz has put her acting experience to good use and has made Gullalai’s predicament and ordeals come through quite clearly. Even though Gullalai has a lot of baggage to deal with in her own life, she doesn’t allow anyone to walk over her and this has been conveyed beautifully by Najiba Faiz. Gullalai’s character has some of the best come-backs directed at her opponents and the calmness with which Najiba Faiz delivers those dialogues makes her performance even better.
Noman Ejaz
Noman Ejaz is seen as Gulistan Khan in Sang e Marmar and he has given his 100% in perfectly portraying the character of a Pathan male who is not only a head of the family but also the head of the village. It was because of Noman Ejaz’s strong screen presence that just when he was nowhere to be seen in a couple of episodes, everything seemed incomplete without him. Gulistan Khan’s character has so many shades and he believes in playing mind games to the point where he gets what he wants – each and every single aspect of Gulistan’s personality has been portrayed perfectly by Noman Ejaz.
Sajid Hassan
Sajid Hassan is a exceptional actor who always makes his presence felt no matter what role he is playing but he has been especially creative while playing the role of Naseeb Gul in Shehrnaz. Naseeb Gul is a tailor who loves his daughter a lot and would do anything he can to make her dreams come true. The viewers can’t help but feel for him every step of the way.
Sania Saeed
Sania Saeed is seen as Shameem in Sang e Marmar and she became a favorite character of all the viewers in no time because of the phenomenal treatment that Sania Saeed has given to this character. Throughout the journey, it is evident that Shameem has lived a very tough life with Gulistan Khan but now she has brought herself to accept him just the way he is. Despite having zero control over how things run in her family, it is actually quite heart-warming how Shameem puts an extra effort in a very subtle way to do what she can to make things right and it is because of Sania Saeed’s impeccable performance that all the emotions and feelings that Shameem has gone through are written on her face and are expressed through her eyes. Shameem’s character has cuteness written all over it and if there’s one performance for which Sania Saeed should be awarded, it is this particular performance of hers in Sang e Marmar!
Tipu Sharif
Tipu Sharif is seen as Saif ur Rehman in Sang e Marmar, a man who is torn between his wife and sister. He is someone who took an irrational step but just to pick up the pieces, he ended up listening to his wife and is now regretting what he did because in order to save himself, he had to sacrifice his sister. Even though Tipu Sharif has been a part of the industry for a long time now and has done a considerable amount of work, this performance of his as Saif ur Rehman surely is one of the best performances he has ever done because the amount of hard-work and effort he has put into the portrayal of Saif ur Rehman is surely evident.
Uzma Hassan
After impressing the viewers with her phenomenal performances in dramas like Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi, Mohabbat Aag Si & Dil Lagi, Uzma Hassan is seen as Sherbano in Sang e Marmar. Sherbano has negativity written all over her and it is a tough job to make the viewers hate a character completely, which Uzma Hassan has been able to achieve effortlessly in this drama. Uzma’s dialogue delivery and expressions are the strongest point of her acting and she certainly knows how to put her strengths to good use.
