Man .. ! ..What an ending to such a wonderful show.. !. That was one expected ending but the way they wrapped up the show beautifully, is really commendable. I loved how they put everything related to Haider and Aiman back on track and by connecting the dots, they reached finishing line very smoothly.

There was a time when Aiman was unfamiliar with the meaning of confidence and was under serious inferiority complex ; At that particular time, Haider came as a ray of hope in her life – He helped her grow mentally , he made her believe in what she had in the form of intelligence and he compelled her to negate everything that made her feel grimy. With the passage of time, both Aiman and Haider literally got addicted of each other. Where Aiman can’t think of living her life without Haider , Haider also feels incomplete when she isnot around him. All this while , they forgot the biggest hurdle in their lives and that was the age difference between them. Out of the blue, Sajeela entered into their dream world and from that day, odds went against Aiman and Haider’s relation. Situation became even worse when Almaas jeered at Haider and gave her reality check. Right from that time, Haider initiated keeping distance from Aiman and decided to get married to Fatima.

c

Maine usay Bahadur banaya, dunya ke ankhu mai ankhain daal k dekhna sikhaya magar mai khud bhool gaya k ye bahaduri ka muzahira woh meray saamnay bhi kar sakti hai.. Haider broke Aiman’s heart but deep inside, he was cursing himself badly – How could he dare to hurt that girl who is nearest to his heart; He was completely broken and shattered because this time , he was the reason of bringing tears to Aiman’s eyes and that was completely unforgivable.

Uss ka behta hua har aansu mujh se keh raha tha k mai usay jaanay doun. We got to see softer side of Taufeeq today.Being father of a daughter, he was really worried for Aiman. She begged her father to spare her from living miserable life without Haider. Without confessing her love for Haider in-front of her father, she narrated whats going inside her head and she won’t be able to bear watching Haider getting married to someone else. This particular scene was the most touchy scene of episode with all shades of emotions packed in it.

d

Aiman was in no way ready to stay in Karachi and Haider was not allowing himself to come out of the shell , he put his own self in for a very long time. He remained calm and composed when Almaas told him about Aiman’s decision; But as soon as he came to know from Bibi that Aiman will be leaving next day, he rushed to Taufeeq’s. That was the time when Aiman spoke her heart out openly. She did not want to live her life anymore by star gazing and day-dreaming. The confrontation scene between Haider and Aiman was really cute. Adnan Siddiqui outdid himself in that particular scene but I felt that Sanam Jung lagged in facial expression and dialogue delivery  – She was too loud. Still, Sanam has improved her acting skills a lot as compared to her previous performance in Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitara hai.

Kisi baap se uss ke beti ka rishta maangnay ka ye mohazibana tareeqa nahi, Shareef log apnai baroun ko bhejtay hain ..That was the moment of glory for everyone; Emma was the happiest girl on earth and Haider got what he yearned for so long. Closing scene was beautifully executed and after a long time, I got to see such complete ending of any show.

a

Khushyaan aisai he tou milti hain.. bilkul achanak.. I got similar “khushi” while reviewing this show; This show has proved that simple stories , if dealt with finesse and adroitness, can have spell-bounding screenplay. More than that, If every artist brings out the best in themselves and handle every character with sincere and intense conviction then without a shadow of doubt, show will be a big hit. Meray Humdum Meray Dost was one complete show for me, I enjoyed every bit of it and will really miss this show. Round of applause goes out for the entire team of this show.

I would like to thank all those who made this journey wonderful for me ; Special thanks to Sabahet, Ana, Hammad, Nida , Malika,Aima, Hibba Fatima and all those who appreciated and supported me throughout the show..

Dont forget to share your thoughts on this wonderful ending !

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – Episode 19

Another episode down and I must say that graph of this show is still rising. Perfect pace and brilliantly handed storyline are the key ingredients of this show and I must confess that the screen execution is stupendous as compared to the novel itself; Even slight changes in the story added more to the show.

Tonight’s episode was about Aiman’s proposal. Haider cant deny the fact that he is deeply in love with Aiman. After all the bad times, Aiman was the only good hope left in his life. Sadly, Almaas’s jeer effected Haider so badly that he decided to bury all feelings for Aiman deep down inside him and wore a mask of a person, precisely of an Uncle, who is deeply concerned with his niece’s marriage.

Right from the day one, he knew that Shaheer likes Aiman but he never discussed that with Aiman because at that time, he was living his life to the fullest and  forgot that he is 18 years old than Aiman. Almaas’s realization gave him a wake-up call and brought him back to the reality – Reality that was as merciless as his past, reality that takes him to some dark place where he feels suffocated.

Untitled

Sajeela is in no mood to give up on Haider and after Almaas told her Haider’s reaction on Aiman’s proposal, she considered all odds in her favor. Everytime she meets him, he gives her a polite shut up call but Sajeela has transformed herself into a barefaced woman; She keeps on building  air castles of leading a happy life with Haider and can’t stop herself from stargazing. She is making sure that everybody will develop a feeling of hatred for Aiman. After Almaas, Saahir was her target. But his reply was a slap on Sajeela’s face; He trusts his sister more than anyone else and least bothers about his father’s property getting in Aiman’s hand. After watching very scene, I was literally relieved that she failed badly in an attempt of manipulating Saahir.

Untitled

Life was never easy for Aiman either , but with Haider she forgets everything ; Haider made her what she is today and she can’t even think of living her life without him. Sajeela’s ever tweaking nature has finally started effecting Aiman ; She can’t take her mind off from the thoughts of losing Haider – Thats because Sajeela has compelled her to think that Haider will be all hers soon. Haider’s reaction to Aiman’s question was kind of unexpected for me, but seems like he has planned to make her realize that their relation is unacceptable for the society they are living in. Bibi knows that they both feel for each other. Till now, she didnot take any serious measures to make sure that Haider will get married to Aiman ,but I am dead sure, as soon as she will come to know about Aiman’s proposal, her next step will be to rush to Taufeeq’s.

a.jpg

Taufeeq always took Aiman and Haider’s friendship positively and perceived that they both feel  for each other.  In order to know the hidden truth, he discussed Shaheer’s proposal with Haider and that discussion ended up with a sheer disappointment because Haider’s interest in Aiman was pretty evident and Taufeeq himself was shocked to see him taking the situation casually.

1

Poor Aiman is still unaware that Shaheer was Haider’s choice and he wanted him to get married to Aiman. Further, he was there when Shaheer’s family came with official proposal. From preview of next episodes, I can predict that Haider will go back to Sajeela just for the sake of compelling Aiman to marry Shaheer.

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – Episode 18

I liked today’s episode not because of Haider,Aiman or Sajeela, but because of growing father-daughter relationship. We, finally got to see some beautiful and very cute father-daughter scenes today.Aiman always complained Haider that his father never owned her, neither did he called her “beti”, nor did he uttered a single word that can show his concern for her. But tonight, all doubts of Aiman got vanished.

Sajeela is trying every possible way to win Haider’s heart again and for that she is tending to be as much cheap and desperate as possible. She planted seeds of doubts in Aiman’s head and everytime Aiman rose with a new spirit, Sajeela was there to let her down. This time Aiman asked Bibi about love and longing for someone and the reply she got from her was way more satisfying than her expectations.

From the day Sajeela came back to Pakistan, Haider clearly gave her “not interested” signal but she wants to get him back- by hook or by crook. Almaas tried to talk to Haider about her sister but he didnot pay heed to what she said either. By the way, I am hating how Sajeela is intervening in Haider and Aiman’s life and trying to ruin their relation, I am hating how she is trying to manipulate her sister and compelling her to take a move against her nature and her will and I am literally hating how she is faking herself just to pose herself as if she is the nicest person on earth. Sajeela is so desperate that she even challenged Bibi that she will win Haider back.

e.jpg

Anyhow, coming back to my favorite part, Taufeeq Kamaal decided to make Aiman a permanent part of his business. Aiman, for the very first time, felt that her father really cares for her. But deep down inside, some vague doubts were still intimidating her to not accept her father’s loyalty towards her. And like always, Haider was there to clean up the mess that was in her mind since her childhood. Her mother never told Aiman that Taufeeq never disowned her, it was her who wanted Taufeeq to not meet her.Despite of all the failed attempts by Taufeeq to meet his daugher, Aiman’s mother never gave a glimpse of satisfaction to her daughter by telling her that Taufeeq loved her and always cared for her.No matter how much differences they had, Taufeeq wanted to take care of every need and necessity of Aiman’s but it was her mother who never let that happen.

a.jpg

Aiman loved her mother and since she is living with her father now, she was unable to deny the fact that she has a soft corner for her father too. Now that, everything was crystal clear, she forgave her mother for what she did and tried to forgot the deprivations and longings she went through entire her life because her mother kept her away from Taufeeq Kamaal.

b.jpg

It was really nice to see that just before going to office, Taufeeq presented a car as a gift to Aiman- Aiman was overwhelmed and very much excited after getting a gift from her father. I loved the way how Taufeeq introduced Aiman infront of everyone as his daughter and Aiman felt much more confident as her father boosted up her moral.

c.jpg

Whereas on the other side, Haider was feeling depressed as few seconds ago, Almaas called him Aiman’s uncle. Haider came such a long way with Aiman that he completely forgot the age difference they had ; Now that bitter truth came to haunt him again, he got worried about what will happen next; He was unable to believe what he just heard but still, he gave his honest opinion to Almaas that she should consider Shaheer’s proposal for Aiman; Almaas’s expression were worth watching at that time; She was ashamed of doubting Haider’s intentions.

d.jpg

As Aiman clearly told Sajeela that she is interested in Haider, I am anxiously waiting to see that what will be her next move.Preview of next seems very interesting; Aiman will confess her love which will make Haider upset. Lets see what happens next.

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – Episode 15

Man ! I must admit that for me, this show is the best show airing these days in terms of pace, storyline and characters. The way they are maintaining the pace of this show is commendable ; Everything is moving step by step and I am loving this format.

Earlier ,we have seen that Aiman had her make over that was a gift of standing out first in her class by her best friend ,Haider. And the overall look which they gave to Sanam Jung is just perfect for a university student and as she is my favorite TV artist these days, so I loved her even more in her new look.

With Haider, Aiman is completely different person; she is like an open book to him and he can read her whenever he wants. He knows how to tackle Aiman when she is sad and depressed, he knows how to make her happy and more than that he is always there for her whenever she needs him; All these qualities of Haider are enough for Aiman to consider him her whole world and thats what she confessed when Rameen made her realize that she is falling in love with Haider.

Aiman’s step brother, Saahir, who was not my favorite in recent episodes , appeared as a completely different person today and I must say that I kind of liked him. Earlier,I always thought that this man needs a lot of improvement in his acting but after watching today’s episode,I was proved wrong. Further, Sanam Jung has also proved herself to be a versatile actress in this show. Her transformation from sad, depressed and average looking Aiman to bold, confident and attractive looking girl proved that she is a complete package ,in terms of looks and acting as well.

Earlier, Saahir wasnt able to gulp the fact that he has a step-sister too. But now,as he came back to Pakistan for his vacations, Haider was the one who made him realize that she is the most lonely person he ever met and despite of all the differences, she is his sister and he should not only admit the fact but also accept Aiman as his sister. Sahir, being flexible and understanding person, paid serious attention to what Haider told him and tried to solve all differences with Aiman. But Aiman lived her life in miseries while Saahir had all luxuries a man can ever think of. Because of that and many other reasons, Aiman was not ready to accept Saahir as her brother.  After all that happened with her,  she lost the ability to trust anyone easily and more than that being more mature, she thought that his brother might take her as an actual evil-step sister. Contrary to what Aiman thought , Saahir turned out to be a friendly and easy going person but Aiman was not ready to mingle just like that; she needed more time.

Aiman was not ready to accept Saahir as her brother and Saahir was not ready to give up so he played a trick and it worked really well. Its in Aiman nature that she cant see anyone in pain ; Such feelings automatically grow into a person when someone lives a life of deprivation. So as a part of her nature, she ran for Saahir and ultimately she realized that he is not merely a being, but her own brother and thought of losing him as she lost he mother made her cry. Saahir got succeeded in his plan and tried to make Aiman realize that he always urged to have a sister and now that he has one, he dont want to lose her.

Like Rameen, Haider’s friend gave him a reality check that he is falling for Aiman but Haider left it unheard. Likewise, Aiman got jealous of Haider’s old friend, today we saw a bit curious-cum-jealous version of Haider too which is clearly depicting that deep inside, he feels for Aiman too.

Sajeela came back to Pakistan with a hope that she will get Haider back merely because he didnot get married after Sajeela left him. Taufeeq and Almaas gave her second chance. Will Haider be able to give her second chance too ? To know all that and more ,we have to wait for one long week.

I would love to read your comments on today’s episode.

Rabia Basharat.

P.S. My fellow reviewer seems a bit busy as she didnt review last episode so I decided to take over the reviews of this show again as I cannot afford to leave such a nice show without reviewing.

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – 2nd Last Episode

0

For the first time in this entire show, I felt bad for Sajeela ; Not because of the fact that she was rejected by Haider Masood but because of her ex-husband for whom Sajeela was merely a jackpot and he used her just as an ATM machine for earning muft ka revenue,as much possible as he can. She came back to Pakistan with a hope that Haider spent those years by thinking about her only but she was proved wrong. Haider kept on avoiding Sajeela for so long but this time what Sajeela did was something beyond his level of patience – She insulted rather accused Aiman and that was unbearable for him.

1

Just after Haider broke the ice, her credulity vanished with in a moment and that was nothing but a slap on Sajeela’s face. Bibi was right, after spending those carefree years with her ex-husband , as soon as she got to know his reality , she reverted back to Haider. Neither was Haider an absolute scum nor was he so desperate that he will accept and welcome Sajeela whenever she feel like coming back to him.I mean how could she even think of returning back to him after leaving him the way no one expected her to leave ?

I am so glad that Taufeeq paid heed to what Aiman asked and got convinced after knowing what was in her mind. Afterall, he learnt this lesson from his own life – marrying Zainab and then living his life without his daughter was the hardest fact he ever faced and now that his daughter is standing at the similar spot, he didnot want her to face the same situation that he did. And to add icing on the cake was Saahir’s vote in favor of his father.. chup karwa dya donu ne Almaas ko..

Keeping everything in his mind that happened lately, Haider decided to get married. He didnot want any questions on his and Aiman’s relation and as soon as he felt that situation is getting out of his hands, he went to Dubai to propose Fatima. Bibi was shocked to hear the news because all this while , she was thinking that Haider will marry Aiman and now that he announced his wedding, she was unable to figure out that what exactly is cooking in Haider’s head.

2

Poor Aiman felt as if she was in the middle of nowhere ; For her, Haider was the reason because of whom she smiles and now that he himself is ready to snatch the smile away from her, how would she be able to remain quiet and to not confess her love for him. She pledged Haider and asked him again and again to marry her but Haider resisted to confess his feelings for her – he was doing this for his own self because he knew that he was way elder than her, he was doing that for her because he didnt want anyone to see Aiman with suspicious eyes and more than that, he was doing this for them kyu k Haider sab kuch bardaasht kar sakta hai magar ye bardasht nahi kar sakta k usay koi ye kahay k uss ne Aiman ke masoomyat, uss ke kam umeri ka faida uthanay ke koshish ke hai.. but he knew that none of them will live a happy life with his very step.

4

Next episode will be the last one and I am so going to miss this show. But I am glad too and that is because they are winding it up at right time so that the charm of the show remains with us for long. Preview of next episode looks interesting and after a long time, we will finally see one happy ending..

I would love to read your feedback on second last episode of this show.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 17

0

Tonight’s episode was majorly about Sajeela and her desires ; Sajeela thinks that she has the ability to conquer Haider’s heart again but she has completely forgotten that how pitilessly and cruelly she crushed Haider’s feelings under her feet and left to live a happy life with Mazhar. As time is the best healer and teacher; Haider’s wounds got partially healed because Aiman came in his life but Sajeela learned new lessons in her life; Mazhar was a coward, gutless and merely a fraud for whom she left her family and a loving Husband and now that their relation is no more, she wants Haider back in her life. She thinks of Haider as a toy or puppet with whom she can play whenever she want but this time, Haider is firm and knows exactly what to do. I literally enjoyed watching  spark and glow on Aiman’s face when she saw Haider ignoring Sajeela.

1.jpg

Sajeela tried every possible way out to convince both Haider and Bibi that she is feeling sorry for what she had done in past. Haider didnot pay heed to whatever Sajeela said and Bibi treated her the way she deserved to be treated.  Sajeela developed the feeling of insecurity after noticing Aiman’s closeness to Haider and for that she attempted to plant seeds of doubt in Aiman’s heart.

2.jpg

Aiman was left in a doubt for a moment but she recollected herself ; To assess the level of affection and more than that, to make herself feel satisfied that she is important for Haider, she called Haider for lunch. After all those sad times, Haider found  a companion in the form of Emma. In her presence, he forgets everything and at the very time Emma becomes his whole world. Despite of the age difference, they had something common; Deprivation and Starvation – Deprivation of living a happy and peaceful life, starvation of love and affection and when Haider and Aiman are together those empty spaces in their hearts fills up immediately.

3.jpg

Shaheer tried to propose Aiman but Aiman, being in love with Haider , can’t even think of marrying someone else and for that, she completely ignored Shaheer. Poor Shaheer kept on trying and luckily, he met Haider. Eventually, Shaheer found the light at the end of tunnel when he came to know that his father is friends with Haider and Taufeeq. Rakeeb ko Chayai ? Rakeeb ke khaatir daari kaun karta hai yaar.. ! .. Sajid was so right, Haider was blessed with such a big heart that he even welcomed the one who wants Aiman in his life and more than that, Haider knew that before.

4.jpg

Sajeela kept on insisting Almaas that she wants Haider back in her life. Almaas, being practical woman, put all the facts and figures in front of Sajeela but she was in no mood to hear anything that is giving even a single glimpse of Almaas denial.

Preview of next episode seems very interesting ; I am not going to tell that what will happen next but gear up yourselves to watch some emotional drama next week.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 16

0

Like always, this was one interesting episode and the pace of this episode was just perfect. After all that happened with Haider, he was not ready to discuss Sajeela Babar with any of his friends especially with Aiman and for that, Aiman was totally unaware of Sajeela’s conflicts with her family. And now that she is here, in Pakistan, Aiman treated her just like her nature intended her to treat – nicely.

PicMonkey Collage

Sajeela is still under serious  self complacency that Haider will come back to her despite of everything  she has done to him. She ruined his life and now that she is totally free from her ex-husband ,she is thinking that she has a chance of reconciliation with Haider. And with all that in her mind, she is trying to be ultra nice to her sister and to everyone else. With a mask of fakeness on her face, she is compelling Almaas to believe in her  – To believe that she is not here to create any mess again.

PicMonkey Collage2

I loved the sequence where Aiman visited Haider’s office and had a chit chat with him. In that particular scene, Sanam Jung literally outdid herself – the way she acted , the way she delivered her dialogues and above all the expressions were priceless. She discussed Sajeela’s mystery as she didnot know the reality. After hearing that, Haider was shocked completely; He was completely shattered and broken from inside. He left his past far behind and now its right here , infront of him – shouting and calling him but somehow, he managed to recollect himself and acted as if nothing happened.

title

It was really nice to see Aiman getting driving lessons from Haider. Everytime, I see them together, all I think is that they share perfect onscreen chemistry even after considering the fact that Aiman is half of age of Haider.Being a self-preserved person, Sajeela initiated targeting Aiman as soon as she saw Aiman and Haider together. Poor Aiman was unable to understand why is Sajeela targeting her but soon she came to know that it was Sajeela who was once married to Haider and they were separated after few months of wedding.

After knowing the reality, Aiman had mixed feelings. Agony was breaking her from inside – Agony of not knowing anything, pain of thinking that Sajeela will snatch Haider away from her, anguish of thinking that Haider kept his life as a secret and for that , Sajeela questioned her friendship with Haider. She cried and cried and then went to Rameen’s to speak her heart out.  But as soon as Haider came to know that she was staying at Rameen’s , he scolded her badly. Aiman wanted to know everything about Haider and Haider was not ready to talk about Sajeela anymore as  Sajeela’s chapter got closed in his life long time ago. As expected, Haider cheered Aiman up without telling her anything.

4

Aiman gave a shut up call to Sajeela because it was none of her concern to ask about her and Haider’s relation. I was guessing that Sajeela will keep on haunting her and Aiman will keep on bearing but Aiman, being a confident girl now, was unable to endure silly questioning and pinching by anyone. She knew exactly what to do and she did it without giving a second thought to that.

I am eagerly waiting for next episode where Sajeela will apologize Bibi and Haider. Waiting to see Haider and Aiman’s reaction to that.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 1 & 2

0

Merai Humdum Merai Dost is the play I was looking forward from the day when I came to know that Farhat Ishtiaq’s Best Seller Novel will be dramatized & as soon as I came to know that one of my favorite TV artists,Sanam Jung, will be doing Umm-e-Aiman’s role, I was the happiest girl on earth. Being directed by, Shehzad Kashmiri and Produced by Momina Duraid, Merai Humdum Merai Dost will be aired every friday at 9pm only on URDU1. Now that we are done with formal intro of the show,Lets start with the characters introduction.

Taufeeq Kamaal (Farhan Ali Agha) was married to Zainab for many years but their marital life didnot work for them as Taufeeq was obsessed with success and beauty and according to him, Zainab lacked both of them. He demanded separation from Zainab but poor Zainab pledged for mercy and it was only because of their daughter Umm-e-Aiman (Sanam Jung), Taufeeq let both of them go out of his life without giving divorce to Zainab. Like typical eastern wives, Zainab loved her husband even when he left her and Aiman all alone in this gigantic world. While on the other hand, Taufeeq got married once again to Almaas (Zainab Qayyum);the type of girl for whom he actually anticipated throughout his life.

For Aiman, her father is nothing but a name that facilitates her whenever she has to fill an application form; She hates him and even asks her mother that she should hate her even more than her. Zainab was fighting with a deathly disease and Aiman tried every possible way out to help her mother and at-last, Zainab gave her life up. From those scenes when Zainab’s state went serious till her last breath, Sanam Jung’s acting was near to perfection. Her mother was whole world for her and now that she is no more, Aiman felt completely doomed.

According to the promise she made to her mother that she will go to her father after her death, Aiman tried to make up her mind but she failed every-time she attempted to do so. She knew that even after her refusal, she has to leave because there is no way out except going to her father. It was really sad to see how Taufeeq didnot pay much heed to his daughter and focused more at his foreign trip.

Haider (Adnan Siddiqui),middle aged man with a very serious and realistic approach towards life, is one of the closest friends and colleague of Taufeeq Kamaal. Haider was given responsibility of Aiman till Taufeeq and Almaas won’t return back. On her way to the land of his father with Haider, Aiman was completely shattered and broken from inside. She is the one who lost her mother and just after losing her, she was going to live with a person whom she hated throughout her life and sad but true, that man was her father. Or uss se bhi barh kar ye k he wasnot there to attend her when she was expecting him to be there to console her during the hardest time of her life. Though, Haider tried every possible way to make her feel comfortable but he was a stranger for her and she didnot pay any attention to what he did and what he say.

Another side track in this story is of Sajeela (Hareem Farooq) and Mazhar (Junaid Khan). Mazhar comes from middle class where Sajeela was once a part of rich family. They tried every possible way out to get married to each other and luckily, they succeeded. But soon after their marriage nothing remained same; Maybe its Mazhar’s guilt of not fulfilling Sajeela’s desires and because of that he is having inferiority complex or maybe its something else that will be revealed later – whatever the reason maybe it is sounding as if their marital life is nothing but a compromise with one sided effort of Sajeela for making things better.

First two episodes were too good as far as introduction is concerned. I literally loved the background score – At times, it sounded like Turkish serials BS too. Direction was perfect and all artists played their part perfectly well.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 06 & 07

And yessssss, Aiman is not like Romaisa except for her simplicity; She is intelligent and a good learner plus she knows how to deal with the hard facts of life bravely. At time, she falls short of patience and cries but still she is managing to survive in this new world.

I was waiting for the day when Aiman will meet her father and there it came but just before that she was so worried whether he will accept her or not. Because for her, she is just an ordinary looking not-so-intelligent girl and her father is perfectionist. Still ,she managed to recollect herself and went to meet her father. I really liked how father and daughter were looking at each other hesitantly; This is probably the first time I have watched such a different father-daughter relation in any drama. Without uttering any words, their eyes spoke and I absolutely enjoyed watching that. And then, it was so sad to see Aiman leaving Haider and Bibi ; She hardly got settled with them and now again she had to move to another place. In those few days, she got much attached to them and it was so painful for her to move to a house where  the man whom she hated throughout her life will be residing alongwith her.

I was so glad to see Almas attitude towards Aiman; She welcomed her open heartedly and unlike typical step mothers , she never gave a single glimpse of hatred for her rather she was there to help her in any way she needed. Taufeeq Kamaal’s interaction with her daughter was interesting to watch too; He knew that her daughter will be lagging behind in quality education due to her financial condition – ofcourse, there is a difference between a student of Harvard and a student of Urdu medium govt college. After knowing all her educational details, he recommended her to join some institute for short courses and she was ready to accept her father’s suggestion.I am feeling that her hatred towards her father is vanishing gradually.

In the meanwhile, Haider visited Almaas and Aiman expected that he will meet her too but it felt that he completely forgot her. Like Aiman, I was also disappointed to see that she was just a few days responsibility for Haider and he had no emotional attachment with her.  All this while, he was trying to cheer her up solely because he felt pity for her.Proving herself to be intelligent, she managed to run the laptop her father sent for her. There was a huge grin on my face when she opened laptop’s camera accidently or pher baal sanwaarnay lagee..

Sajeela is in no mood to grant forgiveness to her husband even after knowing that he divorced his first wife. We came to know the reason behind Haider’s serious attitude today too . It was Sajeela – Haider and Sajeela  were once married and how madly he loved her was all that took 35 minutes of tonight’s episode. Meanwhile, when Sajeela and Mazhar were far apart, Haider came in Sajeela’s life; they were family friends and Haider developed feelings for her during her stay at Sajeela’s place.  Sajeela needed a person with whom she will feel a bit lively after leaving Mazhar so Haider was just the right choice for her.

I missed Aiman and Taufeeq Kamaal tonight ; They could have shown them atleast for 5 minutes.. Metlab hadh he ho gayee.. Tonight episode had Sajeela written all over it.  Still, I enjoyed watching tonight’s installment.

Lets see what happens next. Share your thoughts about last two episodes.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 05

This time again we had a heavy dosage of Sajeela and Mazhar and less of Aiman and Haider. I always want to see more of Aiman,Haider and Taufeeq Kamal scenes and I sincerely wish that from next episode,we would see more of them. Because Sajeela and Mazhar track has nothing new to offer. Wohi typical story..

Anyhow, Sajeela came to know that Mazhar is already married and she reacted just like the way she should have reacted. She was completely shattered because it was Mazhar for whom she went against her loving and caring father – father who always put Sajeela first in front of whole world.

Haider is trying every possible way out to make Aiman feel comfortable while living at his place but somehow, Aiman is still unable to come out of the shell and to make herself feel like home. Major reason for Aiman’s discomfort is nothing but the class difference. She comes from a lower middle class family where she always strived for even basic necessities of life and now that she is a part of rich high class ,she is finding it difficult to transform herself into a completely new and different Aiman.

All we can observe is that Aiman is under sheer inferiority complex after stepping into a completely new world where everything seems perfect. She was right to the extent that everything that belongs to Taufeeq Kamaal is more than perfect even his friend,Haider,is a graduate from Harvard University. Relating everything to what her mother told her , she got so worried whether her father will accept her. Because for her, she is neither intelligent nor is she beautiful so how will her father react after meeting her ?

With heavy heart, she woke up and it was really nice to see how  Haider tackled her. The way he admired Aiman’s intelligence told that he is really concerned for her and is trying to be her mentor; He really want Aiman to not under estimate herself merely because she is from lower middle class. Haider knows really well that its Aiman inferiority complex that is not letting Aiman live happy and satisfied life. But he did not know that it is so hard for Aiman to come out of all this – she grew with these complexes as a part of her life as if she inherited them from her mother.

Mazhar is finding it really hard to make Sajeela realize that he is loyal to her and will never leave her. But Sajeela has turned evil this time; She knows that it was due to her financial help because of which Mazhar’s family is living a luxurious life. After a certain point, I second to Sajeela’s thought that Mazhar married her because of her wealthy background. But when I see him trying so hard to cheer up Sajeela, I change my mind. Whatever the mystery is, it will be revealed in upcoming episodes.

Preview of next episode looks very interesting and I think from next episode, this drama will be on a completely new track; It will be more about father-daughter relationship and I would absolutely love to watch that.

Do share your thoughts on today’s episode.

Merai Humdum Merai Dost – Episode 03 & 04

0

After watching both episodes back to back, all I can say is that the story of the show is unfolding just the way I expected it to be unfolded. Every artist in this show is doing great job and it seems that the casting team have done special efforts and by learning deep insights of this novel, they decided who would fit in the role of the respective character.

Aiman is finding herself very uncomfortable and unfit for this upper class society and for that she is failing to gel in with everyone. She feels so empty deep inside because her father is not there when she needs him the most. Despite of the fact that they are ultra loving and caring people, she is living with Haider and his Bibi half-heartedly because she feels completely lost.

The scene where Aiman talked to her father was worth watching ; Sanam Jung literally outdid herself. She had mixed feeling of hatred and reproach while talking to her father. She wanted to open her heart out and to tell her father that how hard her life was when she was with her mother and he left them,  she wanted to complain and cry out loud but all she can do is just to listen and answer to Taufeeq’s straight and serious questions. The  pain in her voice when she talked to her step mother,Almas, was clearly depicting that how difficult it is for Aiman to gulp the fact that Taufeeq Kamal left Zainab(Aiman’s mother) solely for Almas and now that she is dead, Aiman has no option but to live and do what her father opts of her.

Previously, we knew that Sajeela and Mazhar are living a life that is nothing but a comprise. But after watching these two episodes,we came to know that Sajeela literally fought to marry Mazhar. As she said, her father always cared for her the most but when he came to know that Mazhar belongs to middle-class family ,he rejected him just like that. Sajeela find it difficult to live without Mazhar and she left her house. I am glad that Mazhar proved Sajeela’s father misconception to be wrong – He was definitely not after the wealth that Sajeela owns. They said their good byes and I must say that the whole good bye sequence was way too much extended for no reason; They could have wrapped up that flashback of good bye within few minutes .By the way, that was the only point in both episodes where I felt a bit bored else I found every scene interesting.

Haider is being so kind to Aiman and his kindness is somehow leaving an impact on Aiman that he is caring for her because he cares for Taufeeq Kamal. I really enjoyed that gift part where Haider was the teacher and Aiman was trying to be a good learner by following every instruction that he gave her and the cute thing about that scene was that Haider treated Aiman like a kid. And for that, I want to give a special mention of Adnan Siddiqui’s acting skills – Typically, male artists confuse being caring with flirty kind of expressions but Adnan was completely out of that.I mean not for a sec, he gave an impression that there is some ongoing chemistry between them or somewhat closer to that.

I really enjoy the direction of this show at some points like when Haider took Aiman for dinner and shopping ,we even enjoyed to see that mouthwatering seafood platter and after that the use of folk and knife by Haider and Aiman having her food all by her hands, pointing the difference in her living standard ,was also one of the minutest details that was taken care of during direction. Acha, I thought she will be using and trying harder to have her food with folk and knife too laken shukar hai she was confident enough to have her meal just the way she want it to be eaten.

Episode ended when Sajeela came to know that Mazhar is already married. Lets see how the story will unfold and what else this show has to offer in upcoming episodes.

Mera Yaqeen Review – Last Episode!

0

                                                           ‘All’s well that ends well’
This phrase applies to this show. It may have many flaws but its ending was superb. The whole episode was mind blowing! I was totally hooked till the end. Usually last episodes turn out to be really disappointing but this episode was way better than my expectations.

The whole cast has given their best in this show. The performance of Faisal Qureshi, Sawera Nadeem and Nimra Bucha is commendable and praiseworthy. Even the supporting roles played by Farhan Ali Agha, Shehryar Zaidi, Sami Sani and the rest have been played brilliantly by all of them. The story had been written well by Seema Munaf and Sarmat Khoosat has done a satisfying job as a director if not a very good one. I doubt he can give another masterpiece after Humsafar, but it will always remain a benchmark for all his other shows. He has also performed well in his cameo in this show. A good director is one who can also act well. The dialogues in this show were simply outstanding but the screenplay could have been better. Last but not the least, the OST of this show is beautiful. The melody always gave a very piquant feel. It is used at the right moments and it really helped to uplift all the emotional scenes.

The best part of the show is its lesson, ‘Pride and ego is never liked by God’. Everything is given to us by the Almighty and not to thank him for it and to think that it is our right to get all the favors given by him is a very wrong perception. Maha and Nazish were shown as two opposite personalities. One was patient, kind and a firm believer in God. Even after being through so many hardships in her life, she always remained optimistic and always liked to spread happiness all around her as it made her happy to see others happy. The other was a selfish, self centered woman who always considered Nazish inferior to her in terms of looks, personality and status. Maha always thought that Nazish could not pose any threat to her if she got married to Asfand, but things do not always turn out the way you want. Nazish managed to create a place of her own in Asfand’s heart even with all her shortcomings. Maha realized her fault when she had lost everything; her husband, her children, and her house, all belonged to Nazish now. This is when she realizes that God is the only one who has the power to bestow you and he is also the one who has the power to take it from you. She leaves everything she had been proud of all her life and goes away to spend the few years of her life that was left to serve people.

This scene was the best part of the episode. When Maha looks at herself in the mirror and realizes what she truly is. An empty person inside out who had lost everything to a person she considered way out of her league. I had goose bumps when I was watching this scene. Sawera Nadeem was simply outstanding!

I was glad that Asfand finally raised his voice against Maha. She had crossed all her limits and it was high time for Asfand to speak up and show Maha the mirror. He lost all his patience when Maha told Nazish to leave the house. Faisal Qureshi’s acting was spot on! I would have liked it even more if Nazish had stood up for her rights herself instead of giving in repeatedly to Mahas’ demands.

The end was satisfying as Maha and Nazish both got happy. Asfand found Maha and asked her to come back. I would not have liked it if Asfand had left Maha for Nazish. The ‘yaqeen’ of Nazish was not broken and in the case of Maha, it came back. The last scene when Asfand goes to take Maha back was beautifully enacted.

On the whole, the show was good. I wish they would not have dragged it to 21 episodes. It could have easily been summed up in 15 episodes. The show was engaging in the beginning and kept the viewers hooked but it lost its charm somewhere in between. However, the twist and turns in the last few episodes made the show interesting again and the viewership returned. I really hope to see Faisal and Sawera in another serial in the future. Well, all I can say is that I will miss this show for sure!

Mera Yaqeen Episode 20 – Brilliant Episode

0

A new chapter has finally begun and that too in the second last episode. It should have begun a long time ago. I absolutely love the direction and dialogues of this serial. Sarmat Khoosat has not done a bad job. But the only flaw is the flow of the story and the pace of the show. Sawera Nadeem was definitely the star of the episode. Her acting, poise and attitude was superb and worth an applause. I do not think the role of Maha could have been played so well by any other actress.

Maha can finally stand on her feet and as predicted she has started to make Nazish’s life even more miserable. Even her father was seen upset by her behavior towards Nazish and told her to stop degrading her because you are no one to make someone’s life or destroy it; it is all in God’s hands. I completely agree with him! Maha has been through so much but her proud and selfish nature is still intact, she still considers herself above Nazish in every way. I have lost hope that she will ever value Nazish. She has blamed Nazish for her paralyzed condition and thinks that Nazish has always been envious of her when in reality, she has always been a true friend to her. She is still refusing to accept Nazish’s status as Asfand’s wife. She will never accept her as a part of her family, this was seen when she did not let her come in the family picture taken at the party.

Maha is making every possible attempt to separate the two. She was seen ruining the birthday plans of Nazish and it was the first time that Nazish got very upset. She even took the gift that Asfand bought for Nazish! How selfish of her. However, the kids managed to cheer Nazish up. I loved this scene of the episode. She has won their heart wholly and completely. Her heart is very pure and that is why people start liking her. It is an art in itself to make place in people’s heart and this is what I like about her character, she never thinks bad for anyone. She accepts everything that God has given to her and never complain about anything. The person I truly feel bad for is Asfand; he is having a very hard time maintaining a balance with Maha playing her games. Poor guy is sick and tired of the taunts he gets from Maha all the time. Hats off to his patience!

Even after what Maha did to Nazish, she still decorated her whole room and shifted Asfand to her room. How can Maha not see what a big heart she has? Asfand was seen upset at her decision, as it would be virtually impossible for him to come to her now. She wanted to give Maha what was already hers and make her happy but will Maha ever do the same for her?
Asfand is also trying to make Maha understand of his situation and clearing her doubts and the insecurities that she has in her mind. She thinks she no longer holds the same position in his life, as according to her it has been taken by Nazish. Asfand clearly told her that you are not just ‘part of my life, but a part of my being.’ What else can he possibly say to make her believe that he is telling the truth? Even after her rude behavior and constant taunts and insults he still loves her. Nazish is a part of his life but this does not mean he does not love her anymore.

The most annoying part of the episode was when Nazish’s friend Amna again started to give her ‘advice’ to leave Asfand and go back to Ahmer and Nazish was seen pondering over the idea. I really hope she does not take any foolish step and regret later. Even Asfand is irritated by her constant sacrifice for Maha. She is willing to give everything to Maha without fighting for her rights. Even the nurse has advised her not to give up so easily. This is again a difficult test in her life that she has to pass with flying colors, not by giving up but by fighting till the end.

On the whole, the episode was very good. I wish they had not stretched the serial so much. What could have easily been covered in 12 to 15 episodes, they took 20 episodes to cover it. I also felt that the editing of the scenes were not synchronized and the scenes were totally out of order. It was pretty obvious and it killed the charm of the scenes.

The serial is nearing towards its end now. This was the second last episode. The preview for the last episode is pretty shocking. Asfand has finally lost his patience and has shown Maha the mirror and she has left Asfand and went away. All this was shown in the preview for the next episode. Has Maha finally realized her fault? Will she come back? We have a whole week to wait for the answers.

Mera Yaqeen Episode 19 – Maha Is Back!

0

We go to see a lot of twists and turns in this episode. This show is finally picking up its pace. We saw Maha trying to get her hold back on her house. Everyone was surprised at first and then happy to see her on the wheelchair. Asfand was in a state of disbelief, his happiness had no bounds and even Nazish was seen happy.

Asfand asked Nazish if she was not happy that Maha recovered. And her reply was ‘Kya ap bhi Maha ki tarha sochte hai? Ap bhi meri niyat per shaq karte hai’ Asfand felt bad about doubting her. Nazish also said this line ‘Maha aur mera rista hee aisa hai ke sab ko lagega ke mein uske theek hone per khush nahi hoon.’ True. Anybody who does not know her would think like that. But is she truly happy now?

he highlight of the episode was Ahmer and Nazish conversation and Asfand overhearing it. I am not sure whether he heard the whole conversation or just bits and pieces but he did seem angry when he saw both of them together. However, he did not say anything to Nazish. Nazish asked Asfand ‘Do you still think I meet Ahmer secretly?’ Asfand hesitated a bit before giving the answer. Does it mean that he still have doubts in his mind? I really want to know whether he has heard the conversation or not.
Maha is turning Nazish’s world upside down. It was like Nazish was living in a bubble and Maha had burst it. The few peaceful months spend in Asfand’s company was like a beautiful dream for her. She no longer feels secure in the house. Maha is everywhere now and she does not like the changes Nazish made, both in Asfand and the house. She commented on the changes she saw in Asfand like his sudden preference for tea without sugar. She intends to take the control away from Nazish. She countermand every instruction that Nazish gives, and is trying to make her feel unwelcome. Nazish’s voices her insecurity to Asfand when she said that maybe she should go back now that Maha has recovered and that she was brought in the house because she was needed at that time. Asfand again tells her that he is not going to leave her and nobody ever said that she would have to go back if Maha recovers. I am really glad that Asfand is always by her side and supports her every time.

Maha is making ever possible attempt to separate both of them. I just hate her selfishness. When Asfand wanted to take Nazish out, she pretended to be sick and stopped them from going. Asfand, on the other hand is trying hard to keep a balance between the two. When Maha and Asfand were having tea, Asfand also called Nazish to join them, but Maha could not accept that he was treating them both equally because according to her she is better than Nazish in every possible way. She again made Nazish feel unwanted by taunting her. Nazish did not utter a word but went to her room silently. Nazish really needs to speak up. She has the right as Asfand is her husband too. Her silence can get really annoying at times.

Nazish had taken Maha’s place in Asfand’s life. We saw this when Asfand could not find his tie and he called for Nazish but we saw Maha coming to his room and she made Nazish realize that she is a new comer and is not as acquainted with Asfand as her as she has just come into his life while she had been a part of his life since years. Asfand is also getting irritated by Maha’s antics. Poor guy! I feel sorry for him.

Maha is finally able to stand now. The steroids have done their work. She made Nazish’s life miserable when she was on the wheelchair, what will happen now that she can walk? I am really afraid for Nazish now. She gloated in front of Nazish that she can finally stand beside Asfand. Will Nazish ever speak up for her rights? Or will she let Maha play with her life? The show is getting more interesting by the day.

Mera Yaqeen Episode 18 Review – Seeds of Doubt Planted

0

One word for this episode: Brilliant. The pace was fast and the story has finally moved on to the next phase. Maha is back! Yes, she is finally able to move and is on the way to recovery, thanks to the steroids. The progress is slow but she will recover pretty soon.

Since she has kept her recovery a secret from everybody except her nurse, I am waiting to see how everyone will react when she comes downstairs on the wheelchair! I am eager to see their reaction. How will Asfand and Nazish react? How will the children react? Will they be shocked or surprised? I cannot wait to find out.

Nazish is finally accepting the house as her own and making changes to it. However, Maha does not like this and Asfand and Maha have an argument. I absolutely loved the dialogues when Maha asked Asfand “Kya tumhe usse Muhabbat hogaee hai?” And he replied, “Shayad”. Maha was shocked to the core and replied “Aik aam si larki se?” I doubt she will ever stop degrading Nazish. She also taunted Nazish that it is because of her that she is in this house; otherwise she would be at her parent’s place, married to someone of her ‘status’. So much has happened to her but her arrogance is still intact. *sigh* Will she ever learn?

Maha has also managed to plant seeds of doubt in Asfand’s mind about Nazish and Ahmer’s relationship. For the first time, Asfand was upset with Nazish and spoke to her rudely. It was the first time I saw distrust in his eyes. His doubt further increased when Nazish lied to him that she went out to meet Amna, when she actually went to meet Ahmer. Asfand knew she was lying because Amna and her husband were sitting at his house that very moment! I think this was the biggest blunder Nazish could have ever made. She was caught red handed. However, Asfand did not tell her that he knew she was lying, not until she confessed herself.

Nazish realized her mistake when Asfand scolded his son, Ali for lying to him. She went to him immediately and confessed her lie. One could see the relief on Asfand’s face when she told him that she went out to meet Ahmer to remove his misconception about their relationship. Another dialogue which I liked was when Nazish told him that she did not want to increase his worries by telling him about Ahmer and he replied that, ‘A husband and wife relation is not only for sharing happiness, but also their worries’. Asfand never asked Nazish “Why are you meeting Ahmer?” but instead he said, “Why is Ahmer trying to contact you?” This shows that he still trusts her and has realized his mistake of doubting her.

Now, what is wrong with Amna? She was actually giving Nazish advice to go back to Ahmer and leave Asfand. I liked Nazish’s reply that marriage is not some game and she will never leave Asfand. Nazish was also seen angry at Maha as she had crossed her limits by encouraging Ahmer to contact her. Another highlight of the episode was Amna and Maha’s fight. Amna bluntly told Maha what she thinks of her and it is her attitude that is making people leave her. Bravo! I loved the verbal spat between the two. Maha definitely needed a reality check.

But did it have any effect on Maha? The answer is NO. Now she has started insulting Nazish in front of the kids. I liked the fact that kids took Nazishs’ side. They respect her as she loves them and cares for them so much.

The most heart touching moment for me in this episode was when Asfand promised Nazish that he will NEVER leave her no matter what happens. Nazish’s face lightened up when he said these words. She has full faith in Asfand now. But the question is will he be able to keep his promise?

Overall the episode was great. Nazish and Asfand’s scenes were executed brilliantly and left an impact on the viewers. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. It’s a must watch!

I am excited for the next episode now. What will be everyone’s reaction when they see Maha? Would things get more difficult for Nazish? How will Asfand be able to deal with them both now? Let’s see what happens!

Mera Yaqeen Episode 17 – Intentions Revealed

0

We got to see a lot of development in the story as well as true insight into the characters in this episode. First of all, I would like to mention the strong bond that has been developed between Asfan and Nazish. Asfan has fallen head over heels for Nazish and trusts her completely. The extent of his trust was seen when he saw Nazish talking to Ahmer. He never questioned her about him. It was Nazish who told him that he was her first husband, who had left her for another woman. He did not get offended but spoke a beautiful line which said it all…“Uski Badnasibi aur meri Khushnasibi ke usne apko chora”. This simple sentence shows how lucky he feels to have a partner like Nazish. Another example of their growing bond was seen when Asfan was sharing his feelings with her that he was losing hope that Maha would ever recover and that he feels helpless that he cannot do anything for her. She again gave him courage and assured him that everything will be fine; he just needs to keep his faith in God. She has become his support system and boosts him up whenever he feels low or sad because of Maha’s taunts and offensive comments. She makes him realize that Maha’s illness is the reason for her rude behaviour. Nazish is the perfect example of a woman. She is patient, kind, compassionate and understanding. (Maybe a little too perfect at times)

Maha has finally made the decision about taking the steroids. She had given a confirmation from her side to the doctor. I still don’t understand what kind of a doctor would recommend such treatment. Maha is well aware of the consequences. Her life span will be shortened but Maha is adamant on her decision. We also got to see the positive results of the treatment. Maha’s condition is showing improvement. However, Asfan is suspicious that Maha is hiding something from him. He fears that she would want to end her life.

His fear becomes true when Maha attempts to end her life. She was saved by Nazish who walked into the room at the right moment. However, Maha’s malign motives were revealed when she changed her tactic and accused Nazish of attempting to kill her. I did not expect Maha to fall so low. Her attempt to prove Nazish as a murderer was just pathetic! But I am happy and proud of the fact that Asfan did not doubt Nazish’s intention even for a second. He has full faith or ‘Yaqeen’ on Nazish and had no doubts on her pure intentions. Previously, I had some doubt that Asfan would leave Nazish due to circumstances created by Maha but now I am absolutely sure that Asfan would never leave Nazish. The relationship based on trust always has the potential to prosper and remain strong.

The most annoying part of the episode was Ahmer’s scenes. Ahmer is becoming more intolerable by the day. He actually had the guts to ask Nazish the answer to the marriage proposal he had sent. How can you send a marriage proposal to a married woman? This man is just disgusting. He needs to understand that Nazish is not a toy whom he can discard and then try to gain it back. She is a human being with feelings, just like everyone else. Another intolerable character is of the maid Sabira. Once again she was seen instigating Maha against not only Nazish this time, but also Asfan which resulted in a heated argument between Maha and Asfan.

Well, all I can say is that I am completely on team Nazish now. I felt sympathy for Maha previously but after her wrong accusation on Nazish, I have lost the little respect I had for her. Let’s see if Maha would actually get better after taking the injections.
So guys, whose side are you on? Team Nazish or Team Maha? Do share your views.

Mera Yaqeen – An Overview

Mera Yaqeen started off with a good note. This serial is directed by the one and only Sarmad Khoosat of Humsafar fame and written by Seema Munaf. It portrayed a perfect couple, Asfan and Maha played by Faisal Qureshi and Sawera Nadeem (the popular couple of Qaid-e-Tanhai), with a perfect family till disaster struck.

On their way home from Maha’s friend Naazish’s wedding (played by Nimra Bucha), they met with a serious accident which paralyzed Maha.

The character of Maha is played brilliantly by Sawera, who is shown paralyzed and almost all her scenes are on the bed. Maha is portrayed as a proud, arrogant and self-centered woman. It is this arrogance which made her force her husband to marry her friend Nazish who had by then, gotten a divorce for the second time. Maha had started feeling insecure after being paralyzed and thought that Nazish would be the best option for Asfan to marry, as he would never be able to love Nazish since she is average looking, simple and ‘nothing’ compared to her. But destiny plays its own game. Asfan got attracted to Nazish’s simplicity and fell for her. That is the main lesson in this show that one should not place themselves above anyone and that is what made me follow this serial in the first place. Maha’s character gets so selfish that one is forced to wonder how a person like Asfan can love her in the first place.

Maha, however, could not accept the fact that Asfan fell for someone like Nazish, whom she had always degraded. From then on starts the journey of Maha’s jealousy and the development of Asfan and Naazish’s beautiful relationship.

Faisal Qureshi has once again proved that he is a brilliant and a versatile actor. He portrays the character of Asfan to perfection, who succumbs unwillingly to the pressure by his wife Maha to marry again and how he struggles to treat his wives equally.

Nimra Bucha’s character Nazish is also played very well by her. However, Nimra needs to do some versatile roles as her character in most of her serials shows the same stereotypical woman of our society.

Another turn off for me in this show was the pace and the screenplay. Since the past few episodes the drama is dragged too much which basically kills the whole charm. The screenplay could also have been better as the scenes are dragged at times. The OST sung by Tina Sani and composed by Waqar Ali is also pretty catching. The lyrics “Mera yaqeen tha ya phir mera gumaan tha…” depicts the feelings of both the women. On one hand, Maha had the Yaqeen or belief that her husband would never love anyone else and on the other hand, Nazish had the Yaqeen that the dreadful phases in her life will pass and she will get happiness too.

The dialogues are also beautiful in this serial especially the ones spoken by Nazish. Another thing that I liked in the serial is the relationship between Nazish and her father, who had always been her support system though the testing phases of her life and has always given her courage.

Sarmad’s cameo in the show as a man under the influence of her sister is appreciable. The acting of the kids is also commendable. Their hate for their stepmother and gradual acceptance is a bit overrated, but acceptable.

But since it is a Sarmad Khoosat serial, viewers did expect something more. The story is good and the actors are brilliant. The direction is fine too, but the drama could have been better if the screenplay was a bit stronger and the story less dragged.

I’ll give this show a rating of 2 and a ½ stars.

Mera Yaar Miladay – The Mobile Snatchers! – Episodes 18 & 19

I feel like I am onto something here. Like this whole Fahd-Mushq-Dabbu love story is just a secondary storyline in this drama but the main message is clear: do not rely on your mobiles to store numbers/addresses – always keep a directory/written back up! Always! From the moment Mushq’s father threw and broke her phone in anger and Fahd landed in Karachi and had his phone stolen (oh and both lovebirds did not know each other’s numbers by heart by the way for they relied only on the numbers saved in their phones) till now Dabbu’s phone being stolen and Striker’s being snatched it is as if had there been no mobile snatchers around – this love story would have reached its end far earlier!

Jokes besides, I watched these two episodes one after the other and although I grimaced when Mushq did her runner across the street at the sight of Fahd and then losing him, thinking oh God how many of these scenes will we have to endure before she finds him, next week’s episode’s preview shows that Mushq will be quite close to meeting Fahd and that is a relief.

The lingering looks, the constant thank yous, the ‘aap na hotay tau mera kia hota’ and the ‘bas aap khush raho Mushq ji’ – have begun. Okay, don’t hate me but somehow the Dabbu-Mushq scenes lacked I-don’t-know-what-but-there-was-something-missing factor! We all know Dabbu is angel personified but given Mushq’s luck with strangers, I would think she would be a bit wary of Dabbu. I liked how Mushq was gracious and not venting her frustrations out on Dabbu and when he took care of her when she was unwell was sweet. I know she is grateful there is someone who actually seems to care for her and she wants Dabbu to know it but her ‘poori duniya nay mujhay akela kar diya sirf ek aap par he tau yakeen hai’ and when she says ‘aap nay itna khayal rakha tau theek tau hona he tha’ and Dabbu’s ‘look’ when she says those lines seem to suggest he may, unconsciously begin to start reading more into them as Mushq also keeps uttering them!

PIC 1

Dabbu’s enthusiasm and positive attitude is truly mystifying. Without any idea of which part of Lahore Fahd lives in, he is strangely very confident they will be able to find him. Setting out on foot all day seems to be the plan of action and I really do not know for the life of me how that is supposed to help except maybe lose some weight which Mushq certainly does not need to do! I did say to myself ‘Lo jee’ at Mushq’s tantrum over the birthday scene but her apology the next morning and generally the way she is behaving with Dabbu showed that she was probably just very frustrated and needed to vent. I have to hand it to Dabbu how he takes everything in his stride and his only mission now in life is to get a smile on Mushq’s face.

Fahd’s wedding preparations are underway. I find the whole Butt Sb stepping up with biwi and beti to help Fahd and parjayee a bit too much to take in. How does ‘shaadi’ become the solution to all problems? Unwilling son or daughter forced and cajoled and threatened into a marriage and then when that marriage does not work out (surprise surprise) the parent ends up in the hospital with a heart attack. I mean, do yourselves a favour, spare yourself a trip to the hospital and NOT grasp an arranged marriage as the only solution? Isra’s claim however that she will be able to bring back the ‘old’ Fahd could probably be something that his mother believes but at this rate Isra seems to be the annoying tweety bird harping on and on and Fahd the sulky cat Sylvester!

PIC2

I will take Fatima’s stance when she reviewed Dil Lagi’s mazaar scene and avoid commenting on the right or wrong of going to a mazaar. I was a bit surprised at Mushq’s dua though when she did not ask that Fahd be found but that whatever is best for her happens. Isra’s dua, if it comes true, sort of decides the fate of this drama already then for she will not give Fahd up easily. The shawl Mushq offers Isra seemed to have some sort of emotional sentiment attached to it – at least that was the impression I was given when she goes back in the room to fetch it and says to Dabbu that she could not leave it behind. But then why offer it to Isra and part with it? Will Fahd recognize it? The way his ears perked up when Isra said she met a couple from Karachi made it sound like she had announced a couple from Mars had arrived!

I am not sure what the message here is and if there really is one. The obedient daughter Zeba is going through a hell of sorts herself and the rebellious Mushq’s troubles are far from over so was it worth being obedient or taking a stand for your own desires and wishes? Although Nayaz is nice to Zeba but Baji’s negative presence and jibes seem to have Zeba upset all the time and now Baji has thrown in the ‘child’ factor making things worse. Zeba’s tears, Fahd’s angry sulky face, Mushq’s resigned, dejected face – sigh, enough already!

Seeing Fahd on the streets has given Mushq hope again and even though I am not a huge Sajal Ali fan I have to say she has managed to portray Mushq’s different emotions very well. The resigned and subdued Mushq seems to have woken up and is eager to find Fahad now that she knows he is somewhere near. Sundus Tariq as Isra is a bit too jolly and actually cringeworthy and I hope we will not have to see much of her before this drama ends. The mazaar scene did not make much of an impact on me and I have to admit part of the reason is that I caught up watching Dil Lagi yesterday and after Humayun Saeed and the way the mazaar scene was shot – this definitely could not surpass those scenes.

I know some of you may feel differently and that is totally okay but I did not enjoy these two episodes as much as I had anticipated. Next week’s preview looks promising though and I am looking forward to Mushq coming face to face with Fahd, I just hope it does happen next week though and not thrown in as the last scene. Did anyone else watch the preview – what does Mushq say to Dabbu about staying with him? I tried to watch that scene a few times but have no idea what she said. How did you all find these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – The Blame Game – Episodes 16 & 17

So where do I start? Everyone is either offering themselves up for blame or blaming the other. If Dabbu had not thrown Fahd out he would not have run off with Mushq and a half baked plan, eventually ditching Mushq. If Mushq had not run away Zeba would not have ended up with Niyaaz, correction, evil nand. If Striker had not opened his mouth, Mushq’s feelings would not have been hurt and she would not have run away for the umpteenth time. If Mushq had not run away in the first place then Dabbu would not have had to worry about leaving the mohalla. If Fahd had not left for Karachi his mother would not have been wailing buckets. If Mushq had not bumped into Fahd at that wedding then none of this mess would have started. And if the day I thought of writing my very first review had not been the day this drama had aired its first episode, I would not be writing weekly reviews on the drama. Not to go all Dabbu-Striker on you all, but yeh sub kismet ka khail hai meray dost!

But here we are. So Zeba is not willing to forgive Mushq and egged on by her nand she asks Mushq to leave her alone. She later visits her and makes it clear to her that she wants nothing to do with her ever. She also blames her for the misery she is living in. Oh well. Mushq accepts Dabbu’s offer and goes to stay in his house. Obviously the mohalla is outraged and Aslam issues an ultimatum to Dabbu to either throw Mushq out or leave the mohalla by the next evening. Master Sb truly does not want Mushq in his life for he stood there as the ultimatum was issued and really could not care less what happens to Mushq.

PIC 1

Aww Dado aww. I teared up when she says to her son that she promised her daughter on law on her deathbed that she would raise her daughters as her own. And Dado really did stand by her promise. Such a positive beautiful character and so refreshingly different from the grandmothers and saas that our dramas love to portray. Seems like Zeba vented out all her marital frustrations on Mushq when she screeched and threw Mushq out from her father’s house when Dado dies. Not sure what the point was to kill off Dado’s character though. I suppose we will have to wait and see.

So we learn Dabbu’s real story. I am curious to know what his real name is by the way. I would be very tickled if it is an old fashioned name, the very opposite of Dabbu. It was a relief to hear him speak like a normal person when he tells Mushq about his degree and his father. But he reverts back to his street wise language and mannerisms later though I noticed. Just as Fahd had been hit with that brainwave in the earlier episodes to leave Lahore and head to Karachi to find Mushq, Dabbu is hit with the same bright idea and he and Mushq head off to Lahore. Ek tau mein yeh mobiles say boht tang hoon! Dabbu’s mobile is stolen and that is just going to make it all the more harder to find Fahd (obviously).

PIC 2

Ainjing and oonjing, Fahd’s mother is the queen of emotional blackmail. With the recent dramas it seemed that shaadi was the only solution to everything. While that holds true, it now comes with a twist. Shaadi or else – janaaza! Fahd’s mother threatens him to marry a girl of her choice and give up Mushq ki yaad otherwise she will lay down her life. Sigh. Seems to work because Fahd is seen having laddus stuffed in his face and his rishta done.

I wonder if this is  going to go down the Hum Dil De Chukay Sanam path. Obviously Dabbu and Mushq are not married yet but in his quest to find Mushq’s ‘lover boy’, Dabbu will go all out for her and they will ‘bhatkofy’ from here to there and in all that she will begin to develop feelings for him so much so that when they finally find Fahd, Dabbu and Mushq will be in love and realize it only when they have found Fahd. So Dabbu and Mushq will end up together, leaving a usually disoriented Fahd even more disoriented and his mother yelling ainj what the hell?!

What is with the lighting in this play? I am not sure if it is meant to have some sort of aesthetic impact but I am only left squinting. I was waiting for Dabbu –Mushq track to begin for the romantic tones it seemed to offer with Mushq falling in love with Dabbu’s ‘good heart’ but I did not realize I would enjoy the chemistry Faysal Qureshi and Sajal Ali seemed to share. I am glad Mushq is not taking out her anger and frustrations on Dabbu and sees him for the good person he is. Makes falling in love with him easier to believe and more enjoyable to watch. Ah well, I am assuming she will fall in love with him?!

I wrote this review then waited till I could watch the promo for next week’s episode on TV. Lots of touching moments between Mushq and Dabbu – as predicted!

Oh, by the way. Striker’s chacha. Another old man. With the track record of old men in this drama, I really hope this is not another leery old man. Please Mushq marry Dabbu before you decide to marry another oldie!!

What did you all think of these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episodes 7-10

Well, well, well! Quite a few developments in the past few episodes that seem to have moved the story forward except they have not really done so – save the last scene of the 10th episode.
Mushq – her track in these past few episodes seems like a Ludo game. Gets a six and hops out happily from behind her locked bedroom door, plays a bit, dodges a bit and then Master Sb catches her out and she is sent promptly back home – locked up in her bedroom again! I could totally understand Mushq’s frustration with Fahd when he kept saying ‘bharosa karo, blah blah’ but was not actually doing anything for ‘them’. Master Sb happens to come upon them during one of these unproductive meetings and is furious. Fahd is beaten up by the mohalla walay (extremely ‘vaila’ mohalla I have to say) and ends up spending a night in jail.

Mehru Ji – she has had me confused from the first couple of episodes. She flits around Dabbu but there seems to be more to the story. We did begin to realize that she has her sights set on Fahd now but I do not understand her hesitation to help Aslam Bhai then against Dabbu or her conversations with her mother regarding Dabbu. Her ‘mehman nawazi’ at Dabbu’s house when she took care of Fahd made me laugh and cringe at the same time. I half expected her to not deliver Fahd’s letter to Mushq but she surprised me when she did – and then confused me when she did not give Fahd Mushq’s letter. Why give Mushq the letter in the first place? Her whole game is confusing me for if it is Fahd she wants how does she plan to do that with Dabbu in the picture? The whole Aslam-Dabbu showdown was not meant to end in murder then for Aslam had the chance to shoot Dabbu again but did not. She does ‘express’ (read: shriek) her feelings to Fahd which ends with him pushing her away and Dabbu walking in. That’s the end of Fahd it would appear.

PIC 1

Nayaaz and Master Sb – These episodes introduced a new character Nayaaz (Kunwar Nafees) who is an old student of Master Sb’s and has returned to the mohalla now. Master Sb thinks he is the answer to his Mushq problem and Nayaaz is more than willing to marry Mushq. Kudos to Master Sb for finding a ‘hum – constipated expression-ed son in law’.

Zeba – bleat, bleat, bleat. And – bleat, bleat, bleat.

Dabbu Bhai – So Aslam bhai has been successful in turning the mohalla against Dabbu bhai and crowned himself the ‘reigning’ bhai of the mohalla now. Dabbu is totally smitten with Mehru ji and does not suspect at all that she does not reciprocate his feelings.

The mohalla – such a tight knit mohalla – I have to hand it to them. They were obsessed with Master Sb at first, now rallying against Dabbu bhai, ransacking his shop, yelling ‘naaras’ outside his house like some sort of election rally! They all seem to be in each other’s faces and everyone knows each other. Mehru walks around dolled up as if it were no issue. Even the scene when Mushq and Zeba come upon Fahd and Nayaaz ‘round the corner’ felt quite silly. I did wonder where the rest of the mohalla was then.

Dado and Striker – they seem to be the most normal and lovable characters of this drama but nobody seems to take them seriously!

Master Sb for all his spending his life being a school teacher seems to have messed up those ‘match the pictures questions’ in his personal life. Pairing Mushq with Qureshi, then Zeba with Fahd when he could have paired Mushq with Fahd and ended the whole issue, then Mushq with Nayaaz. What a mess!

PIC 2

PIC 3

When Fahd and Mushq are caught out, I thought okay maybe there will be some development in the Mushq-Fahd reunion scene. But nothing happened – in fact a new character Nayaaz was introduced. I do not understand why Nayaaz is so willing to marry Mushq despite knowing everything. There are twists in the story I agree- but they just seem to make the story go round and round in circles. It is like a journey of weight loss for lack of anything else to compare it with – you lose a kilo, then gain two kilos, lose half and gain two, so the story seems to move a step forward but then backwards again but that is beginning to annoy me now because I am waiting for a huge 10 kilo jump! I do like the drama and am entertained so far but I am hoping the preview next week is not misleading and things do start happening at a faster pace.

One of the readers commented on an earlier review about the lighting and I found myself noticing it more in these past few episodes. It is really quite annoying I agree, especially as you find yourself squinting to make out the faces of the actors.

PIC 4

I like Faysal Qureshi as an actor and I have always found him to give flawless performances but I do not know why I felt he was trying a bit too hard in the comical scenes with Striker and Mehru. I may not be Sajal Ali’s biggest fan but I have nothing to complain about her acting and feel she has done an excellent job. Dado and Striker remain my favourite characters for now and Ayesha Khan Sr and the young boy who is Striker have made their characters stand out.

Oh so I just watched the preview for next week and it appears Mushq finally does flee home. But Dabbu in his blind love for Mehru has apparently turned against Fahd. Does he spare Fahd and is Fahd able to make it to Mushq in time and elope with her? I am actually looking forward to next week’s episode and hope I am not disappointed. How many of you have been following these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 6

Right. So forget Aslam-Dabbu faceoff, Mushq-Fahd love story, Master Sb’s heart troubles – what stayed with me the most at the end of the episode was – the bun kebab!! Woh bhi special wala! It has been years since I have been able to have a street side bun kebab in Pakistan and I realised watching that scene how badly I missed it.

Back to less important matters then. Aslam Bhai finds out Master Sb is in the hospital and shows up there to pay the bill. I thought it was an act of goodwill or to show Master Sb he is the ‘better’ bhai but we learn later that it was anything but.

mymd1

I know I was complaining about the lack of chemistry between Sajal and Ahmed Ali but I have to say their scenes in the kitchen and when he shows up to take food to the hospital seemed very convincing. Sajal was able to portray all the emotions Mushq was feeling really well. I could actually feel her happiness at the sight of Fahd, her distress at her father being unwell, guilt for being blamed for his troubles and her impatience to be with Fahd.

Fahd has become driver, delivery wala, electrician, male attendant , you name it. Cynical old me could not help wondering though how artificial his concern must be for the family and how hypocritical he was not to be giving his widowed mother a second thought while he is running around after Master Sb’s family. Anyways, he tells Mushq they need to take things slowly although she seems to be losing patience. It’s like Fahd wants to play a test match innings while Mushq is all out for a twenty 20!

I am not sure who was following the journey of the Rs.24,500 hospital bill more avidly – me or Thor ka desi bhai. Aslam Bhai pays the bill and we learn that he tells the receptionist that the bill has been paid by Dabbu Bhai. When Master Sb finds out, he is outraged and confronts Dabbu and throws the money back in his face. Dabbu shows up at Aslam Bhai’s and throws the money back at him and in that whole intense (not) scene all I seemed to notice was how Thor’s brother was eyeing the money. This Master Sb – khud tau ek angina attack ho gaya hai I am not sure if I will end up getting one watching the way he trembles and keels over every other second. The way he was oscillating up, down and everywhere in the scene where he confronts Dabbu, I wanted to fetch him a stretcher to collapse on!

mymd2

Let’s not forget Mehru ji because this episode gave us a bit more of an insight into her chamak chalo existence. Her conversation with her mother was a bit confusing to me. Mehru and her mother did not seem to share the most cordial of relations and I was given the impression that Mehru does not love Dabbu and is aware he is not rich but she knows he loves her and she feels that is her way to escape. Later, when she is chomping away in his car, we learn that she has made him promise that he does not tell anyone they are seeing each other. That does clarify the confusion I kept facing in the earlier episodes wondering whether she has told him she loves him or not but now that raises the question of why keep the relationship a secret. Why not let Dabbu marry her? Mrs. Dabbu doesn’t sound charming enough? I mean, it’s not like he is a gunda and her mother will refuse – he is a social worker, remember? Although I doubt social workers are as scantily dressed as he was in that green shirt!

mymd3

And oh dear. Zeba zeba zeba. I have only seen Zeba sulking around with her distracting ringlets and the couple of times she decided to smile and giggle in this episode sent shivers down my spine – and definitely down Mushq’s. Dadi and Master Sb seem to think Fahd and Zeba are perfect for each other. I wonder why they did not think of Mushq but then given Mushq’s track record they probably did not want to jinx this rishta.
This episode was definitely better than the previous one. There is something about Firdous Jamal that you can not help but feel the chemistry he has with his younger male co-stars as in Kisay Chahoon with Ali abbas and now with Ahmed Ali. I love Dadi’s character, such a positive loving matriarch. Her Dabbu Chabbu comment really made me laugh.
I may cause a few raised eyebrows with this comment and mine are halfway there (maybe), but I like Mera Yaar Miladay so far. True, it is no cliffhanger, not a story with mind boggling twists and turns but I like how it is not very intense (minus Master Sb’s ever impending heart attacks!) and makes for an easy watch.
The preview for next week showed Master Sb becoming suspicious that Fahd knows Dabbu and I suppose that will cause problems. I do not want to see too much of Aslam Bhai, his scenes with Dabbu do not seem to add much to the story although I believe they are meant to. I do have a niggling thought and would love if anyone could enlighten me – where exactly is Mushq’s room?! No matter which corner of the house Fahad is in or out for that matter, Zeba shows up but how does he manage to have all these clandestine meetings with Mushq by the bedroom window without anyone spotting him?

How many of you watched this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 5

Hmm. So this episode saw entry of Aslam Bhai into the mohalla, entry of Fahd into Master Sb’s house and entry of Master Sb into the hospital. Now with so many entriyan, dil mein bajni thi ghantiyan except the dil here was poor Master Sb’s! Forgive my cheesiness, but I just could not resist!

Anyhow, Master Sb has resigned himself to moving out of the mohalla. He is paid a visit by Aslam Bhai (Saleem Mairaj) with Thor’s desi bhai in tow. I was so distracted by him nodding his head up and down and flicking his hair in the back that I almost missed what Aslam Bhai says to Master Sb! I am glad Master Sb brushes off his offer of ‘help’ because I did not want to sit through episodes of Aslam-Dabbu faceoffs, which will happen anyway but not because Master Sb has asked Aslam Bhai to intervene on his behalf.

Seriously, whether Master Sb was asked to leave the mohalla or not he should just leave it now considering the amount of taanas he gets at every galli kay nukkar. Literally! Fahd comes to Master Sb’s rescue when a couple of young men are rude to him and begin pushing him around. Touched and impressed by Fahd’s selflessness, Master Sb invites him into his home and Dado and Zeba are also introduced to him. Turns out this was all a plan set out by Dabbu Bhai as the men taunting Master Sb were sent there by Dabbu Bhai and he made sure Fahd was there to ‘rescue’ Master Sb. Well, Master Sb fell for it and Fahd emerges as his savior. Mushq is unaware that Master Sb brought Fahd inside their home because she was still locked up in her room.

I had thought, after watching last week’s preview that Master Sb suffers a heart attack and meets his end. He does have an angina attack but does not die. I found it really odd how Fahd was supposedly just right outside their door and burst in when Master Sb had the attack and needed to be rushed to the hospital. There was a bit too much of Zeba today for my liking – her conversations with Master Sb, with Dado and Master Sb and with Mushq. I find Zeba’s character quite annoying and would rather not see too much of her!

I really do not understand Dabbu Bhai and Mehru’s romance and I do not think I really want to even try to understand it. In the previous episode she was crying and saying she can not bear him to be with anyone else and has no control over her heart etc. Today, she was flitting around the mohalla with him but Dabbu makes it sound like he has not declared his love to her and is unsure she feels the same. What?!

Mushq seems to be quite lost in thought in a few scenes. She does say to Zeba earlier that had Zeba not intervened, Mushq would have made her escape. But later in the episode, even before the heart attack we see Mushq feeling remorse at the distress she has caused her father. I have to say, even I thought Firdous Jamal looked very vulnerable in that scene where he is asleep when Sajal Ali sits near his feet. Mushq knows now that her family knows Fahd and we see her trying to make amends with Zeba and says things will be back to how they were before. Is she thinking that now that Master Sb is becoming fond of Fahd then that will improve her chances of getting married to him?

Next week’s preview did not seem very exciting and just seemed to be more of Mushq imploring Fahd to whisk her away and Aslam-Dabbu trouble. I know that there were ‘happening’ moments in this episode with Fahd making an impression on Master Sb and Master Sb’s angina attack etc but I found myself wanting to hit the forward button quite a few times today. Overall, I found today’s episode just okay. I did not enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the earlier ones – and no it is not because I am missing the wretched Qureshi!

How many of you watched today’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 4

So, after a couple of fast paced episodes, this episode seemed to be a bit on the slower side – with less action and more reflection. Oh, that is except if you count Master Sb who seemed to be very active –wandering around the mohalla, confronting and being confronted.

Mushq is ecstatic that the wedding to Qureshi did not take place and is reassured of Fahd’s love for her. In the scene where she is twirling round and round in joy I felt like jumping up and stopping her as I would when my kids do that because watching her was making me dizzy!

mymd3

Anyhow, Master Sb confronts Qureshi and asks why he backed out of the wedding at the last minute. Qureshi, with his freshly dyed mustache and waggling eyebrows, is indignant and in turn tells Master Sb off who then learns that Dabbu Bhai was the one who was actually behind the whole ‘baraat not showing up’. Master Sb is also told that the mohalla has been talking about him (do they ever talk about anything else but Master Sb and his gharana) and want him to leave the mohalla but that it would be in his best interests if he left himself without being (physically) forced to.

Master Sb comes home and takes out his anger and frustration on Mushq who escapes into her room when Dado intervenes and Master Sb promptly locks her in. Chalo bhai, Mushq locked in again. I winced when he grabbed Mushq by her hair and am glad we were saved from having to see him beat her up with his stick, thanks to Dado.

We see Master Sb meet Dabbu Bhai and ask meray saath aisa kyun kiya. Becharay (not!) Master Sb, kabhi Qureshi se kabhi Dabbu se wohi sawaal. I think we are meant to really feel sorry for Master Sb but I do not feel bad for him as I think he is also partly to blame for bringing these situations upon himself. But that’s just how I feel. I get Dabbu Bhai is shown to be very good at heart but this whole guilt trip he is having over the Master Sb incident is getting a bit much. When he beats up Qureshi (haha) and backs off when Qureshi’s daughter pleads with him I just feel that the writer is trying too hard to show how good at heart he is and this in my opinion is taking off edge of the gunda/dada of the mohalla impression that we were earlier given. Ah but then he isn’t a gunda is he? He is a ‘social worker’ remember?! Go figure!

So déjà vu. Mushq is locked up again, imploring Dado and Zeba to let her out, Dado bebass and Zeba – I am not sure how I feel about Zeba with her glasses and the distracting ringlets. She is not evil but does not seem to feel Mushq’s pain or have much sisterly hamdardi. I wonder if she has more to offer to the story. We already know Mushq blames her for her plight saying if she hadn’t run off to Abba with the letter then she would have been on the train and off to Lahore.

I suppose the turning point in the episode was Striker’s advice/solution to the whole issue except it left me confused. I found it odd. Confusing. Misleading. The answer to stop the mohalla’s wagging tongue is that Dabbu Bhai gets married. Initially I thought to Mushq but that doesn’t make sense. Does he mean that Dabbu Bhai should
get married in general, to someone so that people stop linking him to Mushq?

Mehru’s scene with Dabbu Bhai also failed to make an impact. What is Mehru really after? When she is thinking to herself about how all her mehnat is going to go to waste and she will be left khaali haath she hardly came across as a lovestruck girl. What is her motive behind having Dabbu wrapped round her little finger? When she says kitna
samjhaya tha apnay dil ko! Iss dil ki na..ulta latka daina chahyay ya phir kaan marornay chahyay it made me laugh out loud envisioning a dil having ears and being hung upside down.

Thor kay desi bhai‘s conversation gives us an insight into the potential entry of Aslam bhai into the mohalla. Asal politician tau yeh he hain with his words of wisdom, jab do laug lartay hain tau faida teesray ka he hota hai. Rise of third bhai maybe?

mymd2

Seems like Master Sb has taken the mohallay walay’s words to heart and meets with an estate agent to have his house sold within 5 days. Dabbu Bhai makes a call to the estate agent which sounded very gunda like. Sorry, I meant social worker-ish!

As I mentioned earlier, I found this episode a bit slow. And that is okay as long as it picks up pace in the next one. Ahmed Ali is really not working for me and I have a feeling his character will be done away with or will get sidelined soon but then I could be wrong. The episode was pretty much about how Master Sb in his be-bassi has dethroned Dabbu Bhai who in a jhatka seems to have lost his hold over the entire mohalla. In next week’s preview we see Aslam Bhai make his entry. Master Sb gave me pause many a time today thinking he will finally have the heart attack I keep bracing myself for and in next week’s episode seems like it really does happen. Ooops.

Sajal Ali did not have a lot of screen time (relatively) in today’s episode as it was more focused on Dabbu Bhai and Master Sb. I truly believe Faisal Qureshi can carry off any role he is given so I have no problem with his acting but I am unsure I like the way his character is developing. I liked how Dado was short with the neighbour who came
looking to gossip. I must say, it is a very vaila (faarigh) mohalla. Waisay how come nobody in this mohalla has caught Fahd making it to Mushq’s bedroom window, not once but twice?

I suppose the next couple of episodes will focus more on a faceoff between Dabbu Bhai and Aslam Bhai but I hope that track does not get dragged out much and there is also some development on the Mushq-Fahd-Dabbu Bhai front. How did you like this episode? Please do share your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 15

So, what happened in this episode? Yeh janna kissi kay leeyay zaroori nahin hai! Haha, how many times did Mushq use that line on Dabbu. Sometimes Mushq is this strong headed, proactive, go getter sort of girl who knows what she wants and took a stand for Fahd against her father. And then there are moments when she resigns herself to fate (?), goes into a trance and agrees to marry old men! I am about to write this girl off as being schizophrenic. Seriously, where do I send the bills for all these diagnoses?!

Anyways, Mushq decides to attend her new friend’s wedding and appears just in time for the rukhsati. Dabbu and Striker are already there. I found it really odd how Mushq recognized Dabbu’s voice and when she turns she and Dabbu instantly recognize each other. Maybe they had crossed paths earlier then but I seriously do not remember when and how. Or maybe since he was the mohalla’s renowned gunda, sorry, social worker, she had been aware of who he is. Oh well. Whatever and however, they do instantly recognize each other and it did seem natural that Dabbu would instantly look around for Fahd upon seeing Mushq there.

PIC1

Following all the ‘I saw this in his eyes’ and ‘ you look in your heart and you will see this’ – I mean, really what are words for. The only expressions I recognize are a glare and a smile! Mushq is back in her trance like ‘Bebo ma’am has done a lot for me so I shall lay my neck down for her’ state. I have said it before and will repeat myself here when I say if there was to be no eavesdropping in our dramas, half the stories would never progress. Mushq very conveniently overhears Bebo talking to baray saeen (man, what a character he is!) and realizes her true intentions. Switch over to her ‘other personality’ and Mushq dashes out of the house. Where? No idea. With Orya and Bebo out in search for her and our own desi Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson also looking for her, thankfully Mushq comes across them. And then switch back to the ‘first’ personality and she refuses to go with Dabbu! I mean, hello! She is ‘escaping’ from Bebo, in a village unknown to her, in the middle of the night – but refuses to leave with Dabbu. So glad he manages to talk sense into her and she gets in to their car.

So, Mushq is brought back to her father’s home who minces no words in making it clear he wants nothing to do with her. Seems like Mushq will end up being with Dabbu now. Mushq wanders off to Zeba’s house. To do what, really? Zeba’s life, we see is the same. Baji full of venom and bitterness and Niyaz being ultra sweet and Zeba’s emotions ping-ponging between reactions to Baji and Niyaz’s attitudes. Uff!

pic 2

Today’s episode was much better than the previous ones. Fast paced and I liked Sajal Ali and Faysal Qureshi’s acting. Sajal Ali looked very pretty in this episode. I could have done without Master Sb’s scenes though. Next week’s promo seemed a bit misleading to me where Mushq seems to have accepted happily that she is to live with Dabbu and is smiling in a couple of scenes. Maybe that will come later or maybe her split personality has taken over – who knows! If I am not mistaken, Aslam Bhai gives Dabbu one day to either throw Mushq out of his house or leave the mohalla (with Mushq I assume). So, this was the moment we all had been waiting for – Mushq and Dabbu’s story to begin and I will say I am not disappointed in how it all began in this episode and from the looks of the upcoming one. Filmy, dramatic, far fetched – but looking forward to it!

How many of you are glad to see the turn this story has taken? Duhh, I know all of us are! I do wonder if this is the last of Bebo and Orya? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 13

Hmmm…tau Fahd marra nahin! Neither did he ditch Mushq, so to speak. Shame! I was hoping either of the two would happen because now that Fahd is relatively innocent, he may end up with Mushq again. Nahiiiin!

I wonder what Fahd was thinking when he was taking Mushq to Lahore in the first place. Where was he going to take her? His reaction when he hears his mother is coming to bail him out makes us believe she would not have been welcoming at all of Mushq. I wish he had been a bit more adamant when the crafty SHO said to him that Mushq had already left. He should have dashed off to the ladies side to check – God knows he has been walking around that prison, demanding a phone call, meeting with Mushq, conversation with the SHO – surely he could have gone and seen for himself. However, when the SHO threatens to throw him back in jail, Fahd’s mother takes control and ushers him out of the police station. So, Fahd believes Mushq has left and Mushq believes that Fahd has left her to rot in jail.

Fahd’s mother takes him back to Lahore and after the ‘a girl who did not care for her parents’ izzat would not care for yours’ speech, she forbids him to leave his room too! Honestly, the number of times Mushq has been locked in her room, then the jail scenarios and now Fahd stuck in his room – I feel claustrophobic! I suppose Fahd thinks maybe Mushq’s father bailed her out and took her home so he does not feel betrayed. Or does he? Mushq however has been led to believe that Fahd has left her behind. I am surprised there have been no wails, no cries of outrage, no reaction from Mushq as yet?

PIC1

Dabbu Bhai is ridden with guilt. Grief over Mehru’s ‘bewafai’ seems to have taken a backseat and now all he can think about is how he was wrong to have not believed Fahd. The intentions of the ‘madam’ who has taken Mushq home seem quite obvious and with the man who invites Dabbu to his daughter’s wedding suggesting there may be some sort of ‘event’, I suppose this is where Dabbu and Mushq’s paths will cross. There is one thought that keeps crossing my mind – had Dabbu or Striker ever seen Mushq? And had Mushq ever met Dabbu or Striker? I do not think so but please do point it out if you remember them ever crossing paths earlier? Would Dabbu ‘rescue’ Mushq without knowing who she is?

Zeba and Nayaz. And the evil nand. Uff, I hate all these evil nand, evil saas tracks. I get misunderstandings happen between in laws and there can be tiffs but this outright evil-pan that is portrayed in our dramas gets a bit tedious at times. Zeba however is putting up the sickeningly happy front when Dado comes to visit.

I found Mushq’s reaction quite odd in today’s episode. Sajal Ali had a very deadpan expression on her face and I expected a bit more reaction, some desperation, disbelief. But she just seems to be moving along with the flow with no expression on her face. Maybe the extent of her situation or the reality that Fahd has left her has not really sunk in yet. She did seem to ‘waken’ up when she reaches Madam’s house and her expression seemed skeptical about Madam running a ‘welfare’. I was surprised when writing the title of my review that only 13 episodes have aired. Thirteen episodes where I have said, and most of you have agreed, that quite a few episodes were such a drag. It is as if we all know what is to happen and the episode drags for 40 minutes and just presents us with that ‘moment’ in the last few minutes.

Also now that Fahd is not really the ‘baddie’ will Dabbu take care of Mushq and then ‘deliver’ her to Fahd? Or Mushq and Dabbu will begin to care for each other and then Fahd will show up? I would have preferred to have Fahd out of the scene to be honest! Oh well. Ali Ahmed for some reason just has not clicked with me from the very start and watching him with his friend today I thought -why could the friend not have played Fahd instead? He would have made a much more ‘interesting’ hero to watch. Haha!

How many of you watched this episode and winced? Not at the pace (although yes maybe that too) but that annoying flashing background light?! Would love to hear your thoughts!

P.S  I wrote my review then waited to catch the preview recording for next week. Seems as if Fahd will meet Mushq again next week and help her escape from ‘madam’ and her goons. Interesting.

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 12

0

Yaaaaar, maza nahin aaya! We have been waiting for the past two episodes for that moment to come when Mushq and Fahd get separated and aside from the fact that I want them separated because I want the Mushq-Dabbu track to begin, I am also genuinely curious how Mushq and Fahd get separated in the first place!! I had thought it would happen in the previous episode and the preview for this week had suggested it would happen today but alas! Not fair!

So Mushq and Fahd are both locked up at the police station. Although Fahd tau seems to be strolling around as he pleases, sometimes outside to speak to the SHO, sometimes to make a phone call. Cat seems to have gotten Mushq’s tongue for she was quiet when the policeman was asking questions – had she shown some restraint when he asked her when she was headed then maybe just maybe she would not have drawn that much attention to herself. Was it really necessary to show the SHO stuffing his face that way though? Yes I get it, policemen are shown to be total nincompoops but must he be tearing into that tikka in such a vicious way – maybe that’s why Mushq was quiet then too having seen the fate of a fellow murghi haha!

PIC 1
Mehru. Ah, must we talk about Mehru ji? Okay, let’s because it seems as if this may have been the last we see or hear of her, woo hoo! I do not understand why she disappeared? Was she okay with the nikkah because she thought Aslam was locked up and then realized how he may tell Dabbu the truth now that she is out? And the letter she wrote – how did it get to Dabbu? Did she confess the truth about Fahd? Because the letter seemed to be more of a ‘it’s not you, it’s me and you are too good for me so I must leave you’ rather than a confession of how she has wronged him? I did not see Dabbu read the letter so I am assuming he has made the Fahd connection because he sees Mehru was not loyal since she has run off the day of their marriage? Uff so many questions and conspiracy theories for such a baseless track! I do not really care for the answers – good riddance I say!

Nayaz and Zeba, Zeba and Nayaz – so much lurrrve, well good for them! I am actually glad they are happy. Both such goody two shoes it would have been pointless if they started having tantrums too and undue focus was on them. Master Sb seems to look actually relieved to be rid of Mushq.

PIC 2
So Dabbu now realizes he was wrong to have not believed Fahd and Striker tells him that he and ‘lover girl’ have eloped. That word, lover girl! Makes me laugh! I keep thinking Fahd may leave Mushq in the lurch but even when the SHO says to lock them up Fahd asks to be locked up but Mushq to be let go so I really do wonder if he will leave her to rot there? I have a feeling his mother may implore him to come or something. I have run out of ideas really. I did find his mother’s reaction strange though when Fahd’s friend finally tells her that Fahd had gone to Karachi to bring Mushq back. I had thought she was not aware keh Mushq naam ki koi larki hai but her reaction did not seem to imply that was confused or surprised nor did she ask who Mushq is. So, I suppose she knew about Mushq then and was she also not in favour of the rishta like Master Sb? So many questions, uff!

I really feel like skipping a few episodes now and then watching them together. I do not like how one episode quickens the pace and then a few follow that drag the story at a snail’s pace. You know that scene we saw in last week’s preview when Mushq says that Fahd could not possibly leave her? I have a feeling that is how next episode will end, leaving us guessing again what will happen next. Uggh!

Are you all disappointed in today’s episode and expected more to happen like I did? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 11

Chalo ji, Mushq finally ran off with Fahd but the moment we were waiting to see was not really her running off with him but what happens to him/them that kicks Fahd out of the picture and brings Mushq to Dabbu Bhai. Arrgh!
It was evident from the way last week’s episode ended that Dabbu bhai believed Mehru ji over Fahd. I thought he would then beat Fahd to within an inch of his life but two punches and he sent Fahd on his way. When he keeps pondering over all the time he has spent with Fahd, I thought maybe he would realize Mehru had played him especially the scene where Fahd is asleep and Mehru is literally sitting almost on top of his head but no, Dabbu is only trying to figure out why Fahd would stab him in the back like that.

Mehru’s sudden change of heart is also very annoying. She was pledging her undying love to Fahd and now is dreamily thinking of marrying Dabbu. I would like to do a ‘Dabbu’ here – just go along and believe what Mehru is saying. She wants to marry Dabbu? Ok sure, marry him – I am done trying to figure this woman out.

For all Fahd’s cluelessness he ended up remaining true to his word when he had written to Mushq in that letter Mehru delivered that when she would need him he would be there. Mushq opens the door and voila, Fahd is standing outside, albeit his usual dazed self, but there nonetheless!

pic1

Master Sb ka dil nahin bhara with his match the pictures worksheet and now Zeba gets married to Nayaz. Honestly, he takes obedient student to a truly new level altogether! Nayaz’s baji does seem to be a bitter woman but I am hoping what Nayaz says is true about her being good at heart, not for Zeba’s sake but because I do not want to see much more of Nayaz-Zeba!

It would have made so much sense if Mushq had packed an extra pair of clothes, really! I suppose she did not know what she was going to do till the very last minute but seriously, is it safe to walk to the end of the street dressed as a bride, let alone all the way to Lahore?!

I wonder what will happen now that the policemen asked Mushq and Fahd to step down from the bus. I could not find next week’s preview online and my curiosity got the better of me and I watched the OST again. Dabbu and Mushq seem to be quite close and Dabbu quite smitten. I think most of us are watching this drama mainly for the Dabbu-Mushq track to begin and I was disappointed on the note this episode ended but oh well, till next week then!

PIC 2

Fahd seemed a bit dazed – well, more than his usual confused self and I wonder if it is because of how he left things with Dabbu being on his mind. He did not seem as relieved or happy to be taking Mushq finally with him as I would have expected him to be. I did not feel any sympathy for Master Sb either for when he wails that if Mushq had told him to give his life so she could be free, he would have given it I thought what the heck? You could very happily keep your life to yourself and just get her married where she pleased rather than trying to marry her off to anyone but Fahd! He had been made a laughing stock already in front of the entire mohalla, Mushq’s rebellious attitude surely spoke for itself so it would have made sense for him to have her call Fahd and his mother and marry her off. Sigh.

What did you all make of this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!
