Pakistani celebrities largely maintain private lives, but certain people do share their activities with the world. Fame and controversies do go hand in hand. Thus, once you open your life for public consumption, the public will be making comments about your actions and choices.
A few celebrities strive to avoid being in the news for anything other than their work, while others crave the limelight and remain relevant despite facing several scandals and controversies. The year 2025 also saw many prominent figures embroiled in controversies. Here is a list of celebrities who were a part of several controversies in the year 2025:
Atiqa Odho
Atiqa Odho is a famous Pakistani celebrity who has remained in the limelight throughout the year. She has been a part of the drama industry since the PTV era, but she has recently appeared as a judge on Kya Drama Hai. Her dramas have always received love, but her statements have been the reason for constant backlash against her. She has been caught in several blips, including criticism of Ali Raza’s body hair, to her wish to appear as a heroine opposite Danish Taimoor. She has remained steadfast in her resolve and stood by all her statements, however weird that sounded.
Nadia Khan
Nadia Khan is another Pakistani actress and host who is joining the list for her statements. She has been caught with a foot in her mouth several times when she criticised different dramas on her show Kya Dra aHai. She was in a full-throttle war with actor Yasir Hussain. She has dropped several hints herself, but there has been no proper announcement. Meanwhile, the internet also thinks she has changed her appearance, which puts her under scrutiny.
Rajab Butt
Rajab Butt is probably the most controversial Pakistani celebrity of 2025. He is primarily a YouTuber who creates family Vlogs, but this year, he remained in the news due to his legal and personal controversies. First, he had to flee the country due to his legal cases. His name also came up in the now-famous gambling apps case. Add to that his marital woes, which were discussed extensively on social media. His past affairs were exposed while his wife was pregnant, and he was seen making weird TikTok videos with other women.
Ducky Bhai
Ducky Bhai is another Pakistani celebrity who had a tough year. While he was making his usual Vlogs, he was suddenly picked up by law enforcement agencies. The YouTuber remained in custody for over 100 days, and his story has been painful to watch. Even if he was in the wrong, the torture and abuse he had to face were unbelievable and unlawful. He was beaten, extorted for money while his family had to go through hell. He is back now, and he is trying to heal from the trauma he has faced in these past months.
Atif Aslam
Atf Aslam is hands down the biggest star of Pakistan. He is one artist who is known for his work and never for any controversies. 2025 proved to be a tough year for him as well. This year marked another war between India and Pakistan. Atif Aslam is a star who is loved on both sides of the border. He refrained from making any anti-India statement, which many other celebrities did. This brought on backlash for the star. He also went through a huge personal loss as his father passed away recently. He performed at a concert the very next day, which was not liked by many netizens.
Fawad Khan
Fawad Khan is a Pakistani celebrity who has always seen success, both in music and acting. He also worked in Bollywood till a ban came into effect on Pakistani artists. The actor had a tough year, and this was probably the first time he came under severe criticism. First, his participation in Barzakh, the series, was disliked by his fans for its LGBTQ themes. He later received criticism when he gave a “neutral” statement on the Indo-Pak war, as his Bollywood comeback film’s release was delayed. The star has also come under criticism for judging Pakistan Idol, as many youngsters were not even aware of his musical background.
Talha Anjum
Talha Anjum is another Pakistani star who has become a household name in the last few years. He rose to fame with his exceptional music, and the younger generation loves what he does on stage. He is loved not only in Pakistan, but internationally as well. He was in a huge controversy this year when he waved the Indian flag on stage. He also wore the flag on his shoulders. Talha received backlash as India has been constantly producing anti-Pakistani films and making an anti-Pakistan narrative.
Asim Azhar
Asim Azhar is a Pakistani singer with a global fan following. The year 2025 was great professionally for the star as he released his first album as well as two hit OSTs. He also performed in many cities, but his personal life became fodder for controversies. First, his engagement to ex-fiance Merub Ali broke after three years, which was a shock for everyone. Feroze Khan
Feroze Khan is a Pakistani celebrity who has a huge fan following. He also remains in the news, unfortunately, due to his personal life. This year again, he was in the news for his marriage and divorce. First, his account got “hacked” where he spoke against his now wife, Zainab. Pakistani celebrities are continuously seen in bridal makeovers while doing photo shoots, walking on the ramp and even in dramas. Therefore, unlike other girls, they have more exposure since they are in touch with all the latest trends. They also have to try extra hard to find a dress which truly will be something special, something they have not worn before or perhaps something they wore for a fashion show and thought that this was going to be their wedding dress. Most girls prefer wearing heavy dresses on their wedding day therefore it does not come as a surprise that there are many beautiful Pakistani celebrities who went all out and wore wedding dresses which were heavily embroidered. In the subcontinent there is a general trend of wearing the color red on the nikkah and barat function in particular since this color is the sign of love and happiness. Many of the celebrities chose to wear red on the big day and what made these stunning red bridal dresses stand out was that they either experimented with colors or chose a dress which was majestic and strikingly beautiful.
There are other celebrities who decided to break the norm and wear a dress which girls most often are seen wearing in weddings when they are invited as guests. There were others who chose heavy dresses but light colors. Those celebrities who chose to wear relatively simpler outfits set new precedents. Many people praised them for their simple dresses since there are so many girls out there who cannot afford to buy expensive designer dresses.

With summer almost ending we are entering into a new season both weather wise and drama serial wise. To take care of your Pakistani drama serial ecstasy we are here with our list of most anticipated dramas this fall. The list includes dramas that hit the right cords and are hopefully a full package, delivering on all the fronts including cast, direction, plot and overall impact. Genre wise it is a diverse list from rom-coms to thrillers to dramas highlighting social issues we have considered them all. Take a look at our list and let us know if you agree.
11- Baandi
Drama serial Baandi’s script has been written by the very talented and insightful writer Asma Nabeel. The play has been directed by Ahmed Kamran and it has been produced by Moomal Entertainment. Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt will be playing the leading roles. The drama also boasts of a talented supporting cast. Hina Dilpazeer, Yasir Husain. Nomal Masood, Hajra Yasmeen and Kamran Jillani will also be playing important roles in this drama. The serial is about modern day slavery and how the society treats those people who are less fortunate. The promos are intense, they show how Aiman Khan – the protagonist – who is also the “baandi” is being sold at an auction. Will it be another story about a helpless girl who is ultimately rescued by the knight in shining armour or will this play have something bigger to offer?
10- Balaa
‘Balaa’ is a Big Bang Entertainment production which is directed by Badar Mehmood, starring Bilal Abbas Khan and Ushna Shah in lead roles. The cast also includes names like Samina Peerzada, Mehar Bani, Zaekah Daniel and Sajid Hassan. The script is penned by Zanjabeel Asim and the cinematography is done by Faraz Khan. The teaser looked intense with great performances by Bilal Abbas Khan, Ushna Shah and Samina Peerzada which placed this drama on our most anticipated dramas this fall list. It is based on an unconventional story of a special person. In an interview, it was revealed by the lead actress Ushna Shah that she is going to play the role of a person with a disability who is insecure and disturbed because of her life. The drama will be aired on ARY Digital so do not forget to watch.
9- Mohabbat Karna Mana Hai
‘Mohabbat Karna Mana Hai’ is an upcoming drama serial with a star studded cast including Adnan Siddiqui, Samiya Mumtaz , Aly Khan, Adeel Chaudhry and Noor Khan. It is a story of love and loss directed by Furqan Siddiqui and all set to air on Bol Entertainment. The star studded cast is not just it to add more to the anticipation the original sound track for this drama serial has been sung by none other than Abida Parveen and it hits all the right cords. Add this one to your watchlist already.
8- Dil ka Kya Karoon
A production of 7th Sky Entertainment and directed by the queen herself Mehreen Jabar ‘Dil Ka Kya Karoon’ definitely belongs on our list. The drama stars Feroze Khan and Yumna Zaidi in lead roles. The cast also includes stars like Marina Khan, Mariyam Nafees, Sarmad Khoosat, Shamim Hilaly and Sonia Rehman. Written by Asma Nabeel, this drama focuses on social issues including the second marriage of young widows. The drama will soon be aired and we await that day.
7- Ek Mohabbat Kafi Hai
‘Ek Mohabbat Kafi Hai’ drama will be BOL Entertainment’s debut serial. Apart from Affan Waheed and Zarnish Khan in the lead roles, the cast of the drama includes Sana Sarfaraz and Namrah Shahid. The names of the other cast members are yet to be revealed. If that’s not enough the OST of this upcoming drama is sung by the internationally renowned singer Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan. The story seems to revolve around two people who are in love and when there’s love there’s pain. The plot is overused so we wait to see how the team makes this drama stand out from the rest of the dramas of same genre.
6- Naulakha
Naulakha started airing on T.V One this August so I guess it can be included in this list of fall plays since it has an amazing cast including Sarwat Gilani, Mirza Zain Baig, Kiran Haque, Bushra Ansari, Behroz Sabzwari, Sana Askari, Syed Arjum, Azhar and Khalifa Sajeer Uddin. It is a 7th Sky Entertainment production too. The screenplay belongs to Umera Ahmed and Shehrazade Sheikh has directed this drama serial. The drama is based on the family procession, greed, and thrust for heritage, looks like a pretty neat watch to us.
5- Romeo Weds Heer
This one brings the sizzling couple from Khaani back together which makes it a must watch for the duo’s fans. ‘Romeo Weds Heer’ is directed by Anjum Shahzad and written by Muhammad Younis Butt, produced by 7th Sky Productions. It will star Feroze Khan and Sana Javed in lead roles other cast members include Ali Safina, Shafaat Ali, Saman Ansari and Faiza Ali. The drama as the name indicates will be a love story but a comic one. Add this rom-com on your fall watchlist people.
4- Alif
Alif has made it to our list not just because of it’s stunning cast that includes Noman Ijaz, Ahsan Khan, Sajal Aly, Kubra Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi but also because it has been penned by Umera Ahmed which means only one thing, it will be ‘gold’. It is created by Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun Saeed under their newly formed production house Epic Entertainment while Haseeb Hassan has directed it. Other cast members include Manzar Sehbai, Osman Khalid Butt, Sadaf Kanwal, Farrukh Darbar, Saleem Mairaj, Lubna Aslam, Umer Dar and Yashma Gill. ‘Alif’ touches upon the questions you ask yourself; questions about life and what it means. You’ll see how the lives of all the characters are connected with this single alphabet said Sana Shahnawaz in an interview. We expect great things from this one so fingers crossed.
3-Baba Jani
Baba Jani is Faysal Qureshi’s latest project and as the name states it is a family drama. The serial has been written by Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Ali Faizan. Faysal has teamed up with Connect Studios for this venture. More names included in the cast are Saba Hameed, Madiha Imam, Ali Ansari, Faryal Mehmood, Adla Khan, Amir Qureshi, Jinaan Hussain, Tipu Yorguc Sharif, Maria Khan, Areesha Razi, Afshan Qureshi and Sheheryar Zaidi. The drama is slated to air on Geo and according to Faysal it will be emotionally charged naturally that tickles our anticipation bone.
2-Deedan
One name ‘Sanam Saeed’ when this name is associated with a project it is meant to be a blast. Deedan is not only aesthetically pleasing given the posters we have seen so far but it also looks like a complex story that is well layered. To make us wait more anxiously the drama also stars Mohib Mirza. It will also star Ajab Gul, Rasheed Naz and Huma Nawab. Directed by Amin Iqbal, it is expected to begin airing by the end of September on A Plus. This one has all the elements to become a must watch.
1-Aangan
Who isn’t anxiously awaiting this mega star studded pre partition drama! Aangan has been making headlines ever since the beginning of this year and for the right reasons every time. Directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin under the banner of Momina Duraid Productions written by Mustafa Afridi, the drama is based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Khadija Mastoor. It is expected to air on Hum TV. The drama will mark the second mutual appearance of Ahsan Khan, Sonya Hussain and Mawra Hocane after the 2016 drama Haasil. It will also mark the second collaboration of Ahad Raza Mir with Mawra after the 2017 drama Sammi, and with Sajal Aly after the 2017 drama Yaqeen Ka Safar. In an interview Mawra revealed she will be playing the protagonist and narrator of the story. The story will be told from her character’s perspective, who will be seen romancing three men. The drama also stars Abid Ali, Zaib Rehman, Omair Rana, Hira Mani, Mustafa Afridi, Uzma Baig, Waseem Manzoor, Rabia Butt and Madiha Rizvi. With the amount of attention this serial has been getting even before airing one can only imagine what it would do after finally airing.
This sums up our list of the most anticipated drama serials to be aired on T.V this fall. Do let us know if there’s any drama serial that you think belongs in this list so we can update our watchlists too for we do not want to miss out on any good projects out there. Keep supporting us and great art.
The way good characters make a drama, similarly bad characters can break a drama as well. Where every single year we get memorable characters, our writers often come up with such characters which leave the viewers agitated because they are far from reality and are so poorly written that the viewers find it hard to relate to them or understand their journey. For any character to resonate with the viewers, it has to be written in such a way that makes its way into the viewers’ heart but where we get a fair share of good characters, we also come across such characters that annoy us to the core.
Here’s a list dedicated to all such characters who were poorly conceived and written:
Suhana (Teri Raza)
This girl has everything going for her but she is someone who is thankless and a spoiled brat. Suhana ended up getting married to her cousin because she wanted to save her family from ‘badshaguni’ of not following the ‘istikhara’ but she also doesn’t mind having an extra marital affair while completely ignoring the value of ‘nikkah’. A liar, a manipulator and someone who believes in guilt tripping her husband who sincerely loves and adores her. Pretty twisted we say!
Rameez (Teri Raza)
A guy who loves wearing female clothing, has no backbone, no substance except a bucket full of foundation on his face. Rameez is a spineless guy who ran away when his lady love asked him to officially commit to her but is now making her life miserable after her marriage because now he has realized that his peanut sized ego can not see her being with someone else, how convenient!
Suhana’s Daadi (Teri Raza)
Well, to keep it short and sweet, she can be termed as ‘fasad ki jarh’ because she not only did the wrong Istikhara, she even faked a heart disease but she recovered her lifeline when she got Suhana married to Imtiyaz citing her Rukhsati as a reason behind her long life. Pretty twisted, isn’t it? Oh, and not to be missed, her digs at English every now and then? It is good that they were trying to break the stereotype by showing that Daadi isn’t too old-school but her blackmailing tactics proved them wrong and made her a bit more annoying.
Harib (Sanam)
A forced bechara, who tried to prove his bechargi the entire time but failed because his foundation clad face, kajal filled eyes and heavy contouring were too distracting. A guy who didn’t worry about getting oil stains on his suit because he was so fixated with Anda Paratha and the guy who got married to the girl knowing she had some ‘issues’ but when he had to man up and deal with everything, he couldn’t stop badmouthing his wife!
Aan (Sanam)
A perfect mashriqi larki who only was mashriqi from her appearance because when it came to flirting and trapping the guy with her Anda Parathas, she was a pro. A girl who didn’t mind hugging her ‘friend’, who didn’t mind visiting her friend after dinner and before breakfast without even bothering about ‘log kya kahainge’ and a girl who had zero personality whatsoever!
Shehroz (Sanam)
We are unsure as to why this character was even there because he was just as confused as the viewers about his role in the drama. He vowed to be Harib’s best friend but made sure to stuff things up deliberately to see the circus as a spectator when his friend’s life would mess up. In short, he was a subtle version of a phappay kutni!
Ayla (Sanam)
Ayla, Juhi Chawla, just as weird as her name, she had no idea what she wanted from life. She hated Harib when she was married to him but then tried getting back with him after their divorce. She would spend hours looking at Harib and his home through binoculours, someone was in dire need of a life!
Badshah Begum (Mor Mahal)
It was a pity that a woman who looked so regal and royal had such a weird personality and petty brain that she’d only be concerned about her son’s Shab e Uroosi. That woman had no other dialogue that is why she was on the loop about Asif Jahan’s Shab e Uroosi, like seriously aunty?
Asif Jahan (Mor Mahal)
May be by the end of every round of dressing up as a Ruler/King with all that heavy jewelry, head gears and sherwanis, he would be so tired that he actually forgot to fulfill his responsibilities as a ruler, or may be he was too busy keeping a count of how many wives he had that he once again forgot what he as a ruler should have done. A poorly written character is all we can say about Asif Jahan!
Baba Jee (Nazr e Bad)
He was not only scary or creepy but he was a big question mark for all the viewers who were watching Nazr e Bad. His screams and dance moves literally woke the viewers up at night because he scared the life out of them. Even though the actor tried to make this character very fancy with sporting a half-face glamorous look, the overall persona was scary and annoying to the point that his scenes were best watched, when forwarded!
Sir Isaac (Khuda Aur Mohabbat)
A dean of the university who was confused about his job description, that is why he would either act as a security guard, a spy or an FBI Agent because he was paranoid. Sir Isaac would personally go through the pain of checking Muslim students’ bags to prove that they were terrorists, he would also spend hours patrolling around the Masjid to see if his Muslim student was involved in some suspicious activity or not. In stead of making him a rational character, the writer ended up turning him into a paranoid!
Zeeshan (Khuda Aur Mohabbat)
He was a suited booted goon, but what made him even more annoying was that where he should’ve been shown as some business tycoon or mafia master given his personality, he was shown as a university ‘student’. A guy who couldn’t keep his emotions in control and whose existence was a question mark in the story. Oh, did we talk about his ponytail, we think the picture is pretty self-explanatory!
Shahab (Waada)
Gullibility and playing naive were Shahab’s super powers! ” I can run a business and house but can’t think logically when it comes to relationships” is the best way to explain this character. Even though his character was introduced like that of an intelligent man who loved his wife but it did not take him long to be blackmailed into a nikkah with the maid of the house and if things weren’t bad enough as it was, he even let this “maid wife” who was old enough to be his daughter dictate to her. It was sickening as well as annoying watching Shahab fall for every single trap set for him because that was the only way the writer could make an “exemplary” bechari out of Shahab’s wife. Shahab failed at much more than breaking his waada, he completely failed at using his common sense as well!
Zubeida (Muqabil)
Zubeida had to be the most loud and annoying supporting character this year. In a household where everyone believed in keeping a low profile, Zubeida’s loud voice and OTT character stood out like a sore thumb. She was someone who was constantly complaining at the peak of her voice and didn’t contribute much to the story for more than 14 weeks!! The fact that even though her character did not contribute much to the story but she was given plenty of screen time also made her scenes intolerable.
Saba’s Daddi (Bin Roye)
Saba’s dadi definitely deserves the most meesni weird meethi churiDaddi award since her mera bacha rhetoric was never backed by enough action to prove that she really loved or understood Saba. Also daddi’s unexplained “memory loss” every now and then made her character not only annoying but also senseless. Even after indirectly telling Saba that she knew exactly what Saba wanted, she went all out and supported Saman. She witnessed Saba’s outburst at the wedding yet did not understand why she had a problem going to the US to help Saman out!!
Usman’s Mother (Ghairat)
When drama serial Ghairat started it seemed like Usman’s mother wasn’t going to be another one of those mothers we see in dramas all the time who watch their daughters suffering and don’t do anything about it. But as the drama progressed this character went from being promising to being completely helpless and then just plain annoying! This mother’s helplessness does not make any sense especially after she lost both her daughters. Her empty threats, repetitive dialogues and incapability to help anyone around her makes her one of the most annoying characters this year.
What do you think about all these characters in the list? Do share your views and don’t forget to add to the list.
Even the best dramas can sometimes have the most annoying characters. What makes a character annoying is the way it has been written and also how it is acted-out. Most of the time, both these factors are responsible for making a character annoying. A character also gets on the viewers’ nerves when it stops making sense altogether. At other times, there is no character development which frustrates the viewers.
Here is the list of some of the most annoying characters in current Pakistani dramas.
Nirma (Jhooti)
Drama serial Jhooti revolves around Nirma more than any other character. In the beginning, the viewers were shown in the most unconvincing manner how this jhooti got away with everything from lying to stealing. It is one of those characters which has no layers at all and even the negativity makes no sense. Nirma managed to get married, get properties, money, and everything she wanted without anyone questioning her actions. It was terribly annoying watching her father fall for every single trick she pulled. It was a convenient way of making her character get away with it all!
When she met Ali, all of a sudden she turned into the most gullible person around. All her chalaki disappeared and she was fooled by every single lie she was told. Nirma’s character has made no sense throughout and Iqra Aziz’s performance is just as bad as the character itself.
Hamna (Ishqiya)
Hamna has annoyed the viewers right from the beginning. She has been testing the patience of the viewers with her silence and stupidities both. With the exception of the first 2 or 3 episodes, Hamna had very few dialogues and there were so many times when it was impossible to tell why she was hiding everything from her sister. This character got so much screen time in the drama since it is the leading character in the play yet Hamna has no personality whatsoever! Even after watching so many episodes, the viewers are left wondering who Hamna is!!
Although Hamna is somehow supposed to be a bechari but you most certainly do not feel for her. She barely has any dialogues and for the most part of the drama, Ramsha Khan has the same expressionless face. Hamna has been ‘lost’ ever since she found out that her father wanted her to marry Azeem and since then she has not been able to find herself. Recently, she decided to tell Azeem the truth at the oddest moment. She did not tell Romaissa that their father was sick and most importantly she never shared the truth about Hamza with Romaissa and let her marry him!
Miraal (Sabaat)
Miraal is the central character of drama serial Sabaat and most of the viewers were looking forward to watching Sarah Khan playing a negative role in this drama. Unfortunately, soon after the drama started, most of the viewers were extremely disappointed with the turn this character took. Miraal has been shown as a control freak, someone who wants everything her way but that is all that there is to her character!
The character lacks layers altogether, Sarah Khan’s dressing and the way the director has shown covered her scenes suggests that she is really smart and up to big things but all she does is interfere in her brother’s life and treat people like trash! The leading lady of Sabaat is turning out to be more annoying than interesting.
Sabeeh (Dil Ruba)
Sabeeh is the male version of all those becharis we see in our dramas all the time. He has been in love with Sanam probably from the day he met her and even after everything she did, his feelings have not changed. There has been zero character development and instead of feeling for him, Mohib Mirza’s performance makes you want to skip Sabeeh’s scenes. Watching Sabeeh’s bechargi tends to be really annoying, just like Hamna, he has been crying and suffering right from the first episode which is painful and boring to watch!
Zoya (Kashf)
Zoya is the most typical character in a drama that has a different story. Zoya’s track is also the most annoying aspect of an otherwise likable drama. She is one of those many sisters we have seen repeatedly in Pakistani dramas right from the time Maat went on air whose sole purpose in life is to win over and eventually marry their sister’s fiancé. Zoya is conniving and very ‘focused’ on her mission! It is annoying watching her scenes in a drama that has enough negative characters already and did not need a sibling rivalry track which has been done-to-death already in Pakistani dramas!
Even though Zoya knows fully well that Wajdan loves Kashf but she obviously doesn’t care and is too sure that once she gets married to him, she will be happy! This drama could have done without such a character and this track since it is just plain irritating and unnecessary.
Esa (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Shanzay’s husband Esa had a short role to play in the drama but he was terribly annoying! Esa’s character was just as unpleasant as the performance of the actor playing the role. The viewers were left wondering why the writer decided to add such a character to a play that has some of the most layered and well-etched-out characters. Watching Esa’s scene was painful thanks to the character and the acting!
Shanzay (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Shanzay was introduced as a wise and sensible girl in drama serial Pyar Ke Sadqay. Once she got married to Esa, something changed drastically and to date, the viewers have been unable to figure out why did she turn into this desperate and annoying loser! Shanzay’s scenes are even more irritating because of Yashma Gill’s overacting in the play. Although the viewers are supposed to hate Shanza, the character has stopped making sense altogether therefore it is confusing.
Which character in Pakistani drama is annoying you the most? Share your views?
Characters play a major role in making or breaking a drama. Sometimes even the best of dramas can have characters that are illogical or they have some traits which make them difficult to tolerate and therefore annoying. Then there are also those annoying characters that are simply useless! It is unfortunate that there are some Pakistani dramas on air at the moment with leading characters that are testing the patience of the viewers. Sometimes apart from the way a character has been written down, the performance is also such that it makes a character extremely annoying. Some of these characters it seems are an essential part of every drama because they are there in all the new dramas that air every season.
Here is a list of the most annoying characters from Pakistani dramas right now.
Navera (Mohlat)
Drama serial Mohlat has only started but it is already evident that this drama is going to be filled with clichés! We have seen such stories so many times before but usually the ‘good girls’ in such stories are not as twisted and annoying as Navera! Although Navera appears to be a bholi on the outside she is sneaky and strange most of the time. Even though she was neglected and hated all her life, she is not the usual bechari we get to see in dramas. We are expecting this character to be even more annoying as the story progresses. Her ‘friendship’ with Dawar also goes to show that she isn’t as innocent as everyone would like to think she is. She knows fully well that Maham will never approve of this friendship but even then she conveniently goes behind her back and calls Dawar every chance she gets. This ‘twist’ given by the writer to the usual sisters’ rivalry is turning out to be pretty weird! Navera is already testing our patience even more than the evil sister Maham!
Meera (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)
It is especially unfortunate when a character that started off as a strong and likable character turns into the most annoying one. All those viewers who are watching Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi will agree that in the beginning few episodes Meera was the reason why most people enjoyed watching the show. She was introduced as an intelligent, well-educated, polite, and caring young woman. Meera was also shown as someone who trusted people too easily and this part of her personality was also tolerable in the beginning. With time, however, Meera turned into a complete bechari aurat who forgot she was anything beyond her useless husband’s wife! Her initial reaction when she found out that her husband was having an affair made more sense than what we are getting to watch right now! Meera literally looks at Saim even now as if she has a reason to expect better from him.
The weaknesses in her personality are sudden and forced. Since the producers are so sure that the viewers love to see a heroine cry on screen, they are putting Meera through the worst even though she has no reason to put herself through any of it. Meera’s favorite hobbies include feeling sorry for herself and trying her best not to move on! Her problems can easily be solved if she only decides to move out of the house if nothing else yet she chooses to stay there and get insulted day in and day out. Meera’s character is as ridiculous as it gets!
Farah (Phaans)
The viewers have seen more of sisters’ rivalry in recent Pakistani dramas than they ever have before. The precedent set by Maat has been followed for years and with time this track seems to be writers’ and producers’ favorite. In the drama serial Phaans we see the same track and this time around Farah is the sister who steals her sister’s fiancé. The rivalry is one-sided, just the way it always is! Farah is infatuated by her sister’s fiancé, hates her own sister, and is of course also not studious. This character has every single negative trait. The main reason why Farah is terribly annoying is that her role has to be the most unnecessary one in the drama. Had she not been part of the equation, things would have been the same as they are now. Zeba is too good to be true and Farah doesn’t have a single positive trait.
Farah’s character is annoying because it is done-to-death and definitely not the kind of character that keeps you interested. She does not have a backstory or a reason to be so negative. It is simply there so that people will have more of a reason to feel for Zeba.
Munir (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)
When Munir’s character was introduced in the drama it seemed as if he was a gentleman but his true colors were revealed when he found out that Saim had an affair with the maasi! His reaction was over-the-top and since then he has been judging his wife every chance he gets. The writer went overboard while penning down this character. Munir’s holier-than-thou attitude is really annoying and the actor playing the role has made it even more so! He is another character on this list that can easily be categorized as useless. His scenes are so difficult to watch that forwarding them is the best and perhaps the only option.
Sajjal (Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3)
Sajjal’s character could have easily gone unnoticed altogether had she not been given so much screen time and had Shameem Khan not dressed up so formally in every single scene! Sajjal fell in love with Farhad bau as soon as she laid her eyes on him and even after being rejected she continued loving him because that seems to be the norm in the drama! The viewers should technically be feeling for this character but she is just an unnecessary addition to the drama since there are already enough women in Farhad’s life as it is! The overdramatic manner in which this character has been presented on screen makes it even more annoying.
Somehow Hashim Nadeem adds such extra characters in his drama even though they add nothing to the story and simply waste the viewers’ precious time. Sitara was one such character in Raqs-e-Bismil who has disappeared altogether now! We are pretty sure Sajjal will also be out of the picture soon but why add such characters to a drama which has enough nakaam aashiqs as it is! Why are the viewers even expected to feel for this character?
What do you think about the list? Feel free to add more names.
After script, if there is one thing that makes or breaks the drama, it is the way the characters have been penned down and etched out by the writer. Characters are an integral part of any drama because they are the body that are used by the writers to elaborate their script on-screen. If the characters are written appropriately, they attract the viewers and help them in understanding the story a lot better because viewers form a connection with them immediately and relate to them a lot more, similarly, if the characters are written poorly, they only end up annoying the viewers because such characters have nothing to offer.
This year, where we saw some memorable character, we also came across a lot such characters who were annoying to the core, yet they got a lot of coverage because the writers assumed they were contributing towards the story. Viewers expect characters to be logical and rational but we saw a lot such characters who defied basic common sense and logic too, making the viewers wonder why were they made a part of the script in the first place.
So, here is an alphabetically ordered list that has been complied in order to pay tribute to such annoying characters, who made us shake our heads at their irrationality, ridiculousness and poor execution.
Aneesa (Zara Yaad Kar)
She was a walking talking philosophy teacher whose only motive was to put her students to sleep. Despite having some amazing dialogues up her sleeve, Aneesa ended up becoming one of the most annoying mothers who only wanted to see her daughter in laal jora and laal surkhi by hook or by crook. It was actually quite cringe worthy to see a mother making herself helpless to a point where she pushed herself to support her daughter’s unreasonable demands of Halala.
Anoushay (Zara Yaad Kar)
She took over the drama as if she was the main lead, whereas there was nothing about her character or her story that struck a chord with the viewers because she was introduced at such a time when the viewers were hoping for the drama to end. Anoushay was added only to drag the drama and everything that she offered, starting from her flat acting to her senseless dialogues, all of that made her eligible for this list as she was annoying to the T!
Asher (Gul-e-Rana)
We have seen many becharis in dramas this year but Asher was the ultimate bechara. The fact that Imran Ashraf was a complete miscast in this role didn’t help either. Although the writer and the director tried their best to create scenarios to make the viewers feel for Asher but every time he came on screen viewers felt nothing for him. The forced becharapan and a character which was neither appealing more logical failed to win the viewers over and was annoying!
Gaiti (Zara Yaad Kar)
Gaiti was introduced in the drama to make people forget Urdu and English both because she showed up as an America returned Pakistani who wasn’t fluent in Urdu. Not only her dialogue delivery was annoying but her presence in the drama was meaningless too as she didn’t contribute one bit in the story and ended up looking like a filler gone wrong.
Ghaalib (Mana Ka Gharana)
Ghaalib was the man of the house, the head of the family who despite having such an authority was so weak that every single time he saw the tyranny of his wife, he would put his wheelchair to good use, roll into his room so that he could cry in peace. Throughout the drama, he never took a stand against all the wrongdoings of his wife even in the matters concerning the future of his daughter.
Gul-e-Rana (Gul-e-Rana)
Rana was another heroine who was introduced as a very strong woman in the first 3 episodes but later on she did all kind of weird things – remember those walks in the jungle and getting over friendly with strange men?? – which made the viewers question Rana’s mental age. She was another heroine who refused to help herself, most of her problems were self-created and the character itself was highly confusing. Sajal Ali couldn’t have saved the day with her acting because Rana’s character didn’t have much to offer.
Haadi (Zara Yaad Kar)
Despite being the main character of the drama, Haadi didn’t show any development from beginning till the end. Throughout the drama, the viewers expected him to display some signs of him having a backbone but he didn’t. What made his character hard to digest was the fact that in the end, he chose to be the one who sentenced punishment to his ex-wife, while he never once took matters in his hands to make her realize she was wrong. Haadi himself pushed his ex-wife to the limit by making her believe that she could rely on him and in the end, when he had to keep his promise, he chose to get committed to someone who fed him muft ka nashta throughout the drama!
Hira (Beqasoor)
Hira’s character was beyond annoying for number of reasons. Her holier-than-thou nature and her desperate moves to please her father made her character worse than that of her step-sister who was shown as a very materialistic and selfish girl. Also, Saboor Ali’s overacting and loud make-up made this character even more unbearable. Although the viewers were pushed to feel for this character but it was impossible to feel for someone who was too good and too naive to be true! Hira was her own biggest enemy, she put herself in difficult situations over and over again.
Imdad Hussain (Aap Ke Liye)
A negative character who had nothing happening for him except some overly done expressions which most certainly did not compliment his face nor his age. Viewers of this drama never imagined that they will get to see Waseem Abbas in a ‘silky satiny beige night suit’ at this stage of his career which absolutely looked unflattering on him. Waseem Abbas got way more coverage in this drama than required and he succeeded in ruining the pace and the mood of the viewers completely!
Jeena (Mann Mayal)
Jeena’s character lacked depth, it was a forced character which did not add anything tangible to the story. Jeena was a desperate girl who was in love with Salahuddin. She mentioned the fact that her parents were dead and she that had no family repeatedly to get attention from anyone and everyone. The dialogue “mere tu maa baap bhi nahi hein” was repeated so many times in every single episode even in situations where it wasn’t needed that it turned into an even bigger joke than the drama itself!!! In the end the viewers were expected to feel for this character for which they felt nothing but annoyance!
Mahnoor (Zara Yaad Kar)
Where the viewers always rejoice at the sight of strong woman in a drama, she was a woman of steel, to an extent of having a brain of steel too, which was empty and when dropped on the floor, created some noise pollution. Throughout the drama, people wanted her to feel some remorse, some embarrassment at what she did but the writer chose to keep her ‘dheet’ right till the end and that makes her one of the most annoying characters of 2016!
Mannu (Mann Mayal)
Mannu turned from a go-getter into a weakling the second she got married. Every time she needed help she turned to Salahuddin and never her parents who were for the longest time supportive and loving until they decided to take a complete about-turn. Even after so many years when Mannu was thrown out of her house, she once again turned to Jamil and not her family. She kept on saying she will take a stand, she will get away from Salahuddin, she will make a life of her own and that she had self-respect but her actions spoke louder than words. Manhoos Mannu was a confusing character which continuously annoyed the viewers with her indecisiveness and becharapan especially in the last few weeks of the show.
Mannu’s Parents (Mann Mayal)
Mannu’s parent’s were there for their daughter until she actually needed them! They completely disappeared from the scene when Mannu got married and when they reappeared they made sure that the circumstances were such that their daughter stayed with her ex-boyfriend. Mannu’s mother’s beghairti and her father’s “I love you, I love you not” attitude baffled and annoyed the viewers. They were one of the worst parents we saw in dramas this year.
Mikaeel (Mann Mayal)
Mikael was shown looking for his pajamas and other things which definitely didn’t count as the more important things in life for half of the screen time given to him. His character was only there so that people could feel sorry for Mannu. In the end, just like Jeena, the viewers were forced to feel for him! A black character with absolutely nothing going for him with dreams which made the viewers laugh, this list would be incomplete without him!
Munira (Gul-e-Rana)
Munira was another one of those characters in dramas this year which wasn’t only annoying but also quite useless. She was one of those mothers who was introduced as someone who loved her daughters and would stand by them but ended up doing nothing for Rana. Her character only made an appearance when it was needed to add to Rana’s troubles and was never around when Rana needed her help! Rubina Ashraf’s acting made this character even more unbearable.
Nishat (Aap Ke Liye)
Samina Peerzada played the role of an evil sister in this drama but oh boy, she took evilness to a whole new level. The audience have seen negative and evil characters in the past, so it wouldn’t have cost Samina Peerzada much if she had kept her portrayal of Nishat a little subtle. It looked like Samina Peerzada felt as if her curly hair, diamond necklace, overly done eye make even in the early morning scenes wasn’t screaming ‘evil’ enough that she decided to through in those very disturbing expressions and unpleasant laughter as well. With an experience in acting like that, no one imagined that Samina Peerzada could overdo a very simple one-dimensional character, but the viewers are still wondering what was she thinking. Nishat’s character was negative but what made her annoying to an extent of being intolerable was Samina Peerzada herself!
Sadaf (Beqasoor)
Sadaf was one-of-a-kind bechari who let her husband walk all over her time and again. She poisoned her daughter, failed to do anything for her, begged her husband to keep her when he kicked her out of the house and the list of her blunders is never-ending. It was disappointing watching someone like Samina Peerzaba playing such a character.
Saleha (Mana Ka Gharana)
Saleha was one negative character but what made her annoying was the fact that the writer made her the ultimate authority who no one could question or go against as if her word was the last and the final verdict. She was also one of those mothers who wanted to see her daughter getting married to ameer-zada as she believed money would guarantee her daughter’s happiness, how annoying right?
Salma (Sangat)
The desperate girl who loved Shahwez even after she found out he was a rapist was the worst thing about Sangat. Salma’s support for Shahwez and her “cool” reaction when she found out that Shahwez had raped Ayesha was not just annoying but also very disturbing.
Umair (Kathputli)
He came in the drama as if he was going to run things but vanished into thin air as if he never existed, making the viewers feel why was his character introduced in the first place. Everything about this character or actor, from eyebrows, to dialogue delivery, to his meddlesome attitude, to his presence, every single thing about him was wrong and annoying.
Zahida (Tere Mere Beech)
This character left no stone unturned in deafening the viewers who tuned to this drama. She was a howler, a caterwauler, a crier and a noise polluter because all she did was cry in the drama to a point where the viewers had to keep the remote control handy as her voice was beyond tolerance level.
Zubeida (Sangat)
Zubeida was an “intelligent”, “caring” woman who stood by her daughter’s rapist like a rock, covered up for her daughter’s rape like it was her fault and let’s not forget she didn’t find out even in the end that the person who she had been supporting all these years had raped her daughter! Zubeida’s character was one of the stupidest character we saw on screen this year who made our blood boil for obvious reasons.
With this, we conclude the list of most annoying characters that we all came across in 2016. Please feel free to add more names to the list and don’t forget to share your thoughts.
Fatima Awan & Zahra Mirza
There are so many Pakistani dramas on air currently that have the viewers’ undivided attention. They are entertaining and meaningful but some of these dramas have shown certain scenarios which are crucial to the plot but they can easily be termed as absurd. A well-written script makes a drama a hit or a miss. It is the key ingredient because the characterizations and the logical situations shown in dramas help the viewers stay interested in the shows that they are watching.
Even though most of these dramas provide quality entertainment but there is something or the other which irks the viewers. Since this ‘something’ is not just another development but an important one, it cannot be ignored. These absurd situations and scenarios make the viewers wonder why the writer who otherwise wrote a good script, added something so illogical and absurd to it. Such situations and scenarios make it difficult for viewers to relate to them. There is definitely a lot of pressure on the drama writers nowadays than there was before. They are expected to write dramas with more than 20 episodes and they have to write often! This definitely hampers their creativity and at times their reasoning.
Here is a list of some of the most absurd situations and scenarios are shown in a few of the most-watched dramas right now:
Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi
Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi is a commercial hit even though the story is quite familiar. The story revolves around the main female protagonist Meera, who is a highly qualified, kind, sensitive, and loving woman. Meera helps her maid’s daughter by giving her refuge in her house. This kindness backfires when the maid, Sehr, ends up having an affair with Meera’s husband Saim. Eventually, Meera finds out about the affair and the situation takes such a turn that Saim has to enter into a nikkah with Sehr. Not only this, he has to get the house added to the haq mehr ‘due to pressure’ from Sehr’s family. It is safe to say that this was only the beginning of all the absurd situations the viewers got to witness afterward! Even though the writer had written down Meera’s character so well, he totally lost his grip when Saim and the massi Sehr got married! The way the nikkah happened and the house was gifted to Sehr as haq mehr was awfully absurd considering the fact that Saim had so many contacts. In order to save his ‘izzat’ he entered into a nikkah while his wife sat in a corner and cried. This turn wasn’t just illogical but also ugly! The writer conveniently made a mockery out of such a serious situation by showing such a twist.
The most absurd situation right now is that Meera is getting insulted day in and day out, Saim has even hit her, he constantly keeps on telling her to get out of the house and she even lost her unborn baby YET she continues to live in the same house! She has the option of going back to her mother’s house but she chooses toxicity over peace of mind! This entire situation is beyond absurd considering the fact that Meera has her mother’s support, a proper career and most importantly she was always shown as someone with great self-respect and wisdom. Since the viewers are rooting for her and hate the maasi, the writer decided to overdo her becharapan even though it makes no sense whatsoever. As a result of this, instead of feeling for her, the viewers have started thinking that she actually deserves what she is getting since she chooses not to do anything about the situation. Now Meera’s mission in life is to show Saim Sehar’s true colors but we can only wonder why she is even trying and why wouldn’t she just leave this man! This entire situation is beyond ridiculous and definitely nothing more than a lame attempt to drag the drama. Meera cries all the time and the maasi literally got away with murder!
Dunk
Drama serial Dunk promised to highlight an important issue. It also came under severe scrutiny due to its main storyline. However, it proved to be a major hit and for weeks the story was taken forward in a logical manner. The story started going downhill and absurdity took over when it was revealed that Amal had an evil side to her personality and she was lying all along. The professor’s innocence made sense but the reason why Amal did all this made no sense whatsoever. As the story progressed it was evident that Amal was simply an evil character who wanted control at all costs. After watching the latest episode, it can be safely stated that Amal’s pastime includes falsely accusing men, who do not do things her way, of sexually assaulting her! As if this wasn’t enough, Haider’s brother and father both instantly believed Amal!
Haider not telling Minal the whole truth was another absurd scenario since there was no reason for him to hide the truth from someone who gave him all the reasons to have faith in her. Now that he has decided that he is not going to forgive and forget since he wants Amal to be held accountable, he has no reason to cover up for her anymore. This was shown simply to prolong the misunderstanding between Minal and Haider. This track is so forced that looking beyond it and enjoying the drama is definitely difficult. Amal’s assault accusation against Haider has not added any excitement but it has turned the story into a joke! Amal lied before and was constantly manipulating Haider now, that should have been enough to keep things ‘interesting’. Like many other dramas, the writer has given the negative character complete control to an extent that is often unbelievable.
Raqs-e-Bismil
Overall, Raqs-e-Bismil is a well-written play and all the characterizations and scenarios are being taken forward convincingly. The story revolves around Moosa, the central character, who falls hopelessly in love and does whatever it takes to win over the love of his life. His story is more about learning about the true meaning of love and that is the beauty of the drama. While the writer has done exceptionally well with most of the tracks, Zohra’s track, in particular, has turned absurd with time. It was understandable when she refused to marry Moosa, she gave an explanation and it made sense. However, after getting married to Shehryar, her character and track stopped making sense! This young woman, who was always looking for ‘respect’ and rejected Moosa because she believed she will never get the kind of respect she wanted from his family, was all of a sudden begging to stay with a man who literally ‘bought’ her, was marketing her to others and did not respect her at all.
In the latest episodes, Zohra’s whole attitude and the way she reacted to Shehryar telling her that he was going to leave her made no sense. Even though she accepted her love for Moosa, knows he is going to be there for her, she chooses to stay with Shehryar and was actually upset that he was leaving her. The timeline of the previous episode in particular made this serious situation look like a joke. The writer is unnecessarily stretching this track because Zohra’s ‘disappearance’ was totally unnecessary and is also illogical. Someone as sensible as Shehryar who runs such a big business and had the sole motive of gaining profit from Zohra lets her go without ensuring that she was there with Laila so that he would get the money! The ‘sonay ki chirya’ flew away because he asked his servants to hand over the divorce papers and his message instead of handing her over to Laila himself, getting the money and then leaving for his urgent business. We expected better from a writer of Hashim Nadeem’s caliber.
Khuda Aur Mohabbat
Khuda Aur Mohabbat is another popular drama serial right now which is getting a lot of love and attention. It is essentially a ‘love story’ which took a tragic turn! Farhad, the main protagonist falls madly in love with Mahi after she decides to be ‘friends’ with him simply because she needs him to do something for her. Mahi goes back to her hometown and Farhad follows her there because he must have her in his life since she made the huge mistake of innocently flirting with him! Farhad wants Mahi to love him back, whether she likes it or not! While the public generally likes the drama and thinks there is a reason to feel for Farhad, we find his mad love for Mahi difficult to digest, and what is even more unreasonable is the fact that somehow Mahi is being held accountable repeatedly for breaking his heart! The imaginary love affair which Farhad had with Mahi is being sold to the viewers as if it is something tangible and meaningful when clearly that is not the case!
We definitely expected better from such a big drama with such an experienced team behind it! We have seen many such nakaam aashiqs such as Farhad in Pakistani dramas but none of them had the audacity to give the kind of bud dua Farhad gave to Mahi. And now that the bud dua actually has culminated, the writer is reinforcing the idea that one-sided love when not reciprocated is somehow powerful enough to hold such a value! It is a ‘can I friendship with you’ situation that got too serious too fast and isn’t the least bit appealing or convincing.
Safar Tamam Hua
Safar Tamam Hua is an entertaining drama overall and it has some likable characters. It is the story of a young girl Anoushay who has a sweet and sensitive personality. She has been brought up by her aunt and is in love with her aunt’s son Sami. Sami’s brother Jamal is a twisted character who likes Anoushay and is constantly trying to create misunderstandings between the two. Safar Tamam Hua is essentially a love triangle but the writer for some odd reason added a rape and murder track to it! Our writers’ obsession with rape and murder is getting repetitive but Safar Tamam Hua is also highly distasteful and insensitive. Anoushay’s younger sister Rija is raped and murdered and that is when a simple story turned into a complete and utter mess!
Firstly, rape and murder have been treated too casually in the drama. Secondly, the only honest, kind, and loving man in the drama Sami was just as casually accused of rape by his brother Jamal who is a negative character. Anoushay instantly believed Jamal and decided to get married to him only to change her mind after a few episodes. The aunt then disclosed that Jamal was the one who came home early that day because she had asked him to and that is when everyone starts doubting him! Although these family members are so suspicious of each other yet they continue to live life as normal. The writer’s callous and casual approach towards such a serious track is not understandable at all. The most absurd scenario has been Anoushay believing that Sami was the murderer for the longest time. The viewers had more faith in Sami after a few weeks of watching the drama than Anoushay did in her lifetime! The maturity in the script seems to be dying off with every passing episode and it is especially annoying because of the way the writer handled the aftermath of the tragic turn in the story.
What do you think about all these scenarios? Are they believable or just plain absurd? Share your views.
Mohsin Naveed Ranjha is one of the very few Pakistani designers who have gained immense appreciation from fans and critics in a short period of time. Mohsin Naveed Ranjha of MNR Design Studios stepped into the industry in 2011. Mohsin launched his brand in 2013 at Gujranwala, Pakistan, and made his debut at HUM TV Bridal Couture Week 2014. Since then, he has made a remarkable mark in the field with his extraordinary royal designs in various clothing lines for men’s and women’s wear e.g. formals, semi-formals, bridals, and shawls.
We often see our celebrities donning dresses designed by Moshin Naveed Ranjha. Recently, Hania Aamir in a recent photo shoot for Allure Salon and Spa looked absolutely stunning in a bridal attire designed by Mohsin Naveed Ranjha. Hania looked like a dream in the photoshoot. The pictures are flawlessly captured by Izzah Shaheen Malik.
Have you guys seen the images? Isn’t Hania looking absolutely stunning in the pictures? Want to add something to the story? Feel free to share your views with us!
We all are well aware of how our mornings are being ruined by the self-proclaimed reputed & respected morning show hosts. I may sound a little backward but I seriously miss the time when me & my siblings used to get ready for school & we only had PTV broadcasting Tilawwat of Quran Majeed to begin our day with followed by the Darood e Ibrahimi (trust me that’s how I got fluent in it by listening to it every morning Allhamdullilah). I am sure many of the readers will agree to what I am saying & what I am about to say. :)
Ah well! This obnoxious trend started off with GEO TV where Nadia Khan used to host the show. I understand it was a different experience for every housewife because they could just do their household chores along with watching Nadia Khan yap constantly. I understand it was appreciated because GEO was the only one hosting a show & there was no race for the TRPs. Nadia Khan did a good job because of her confidence. Later she lost the charm because her fame for sure affected her brain. She called every single person & started targeting their sensitive issues, insulting every single guest & to put an end to that journey what she did with Noor backfired on her perfectly leaving a great impact on every single fan of hers. I find it a bit amusing when people talk so high of her saying she was the best & we miss her. Ok, she might be the best in her screen presence & the way she carried herself but if we talk about the quality of her work….toot toot toot toot toot.
Anyways, now we have moved into another phase of the morning shows where each & every host is in the mode of “bhalla uski kameez meri kameez se safaid kaisay?” kind of a race. We start off our day with them listening to Indian songs, it’s al-right many people are addicted to music but I guess a moderate person having some values will for sure be thinking twice while listening to them subha savere. The first contradiction that we see is they say ASALAM ALAIKUM & let’s hear the music. Asalam Alaikum is a greeting where we wish peace for other human beings & there we go seeing them defying its essence by quickly tuning into music.
Excuse me for saying it but these days it seems like morning show hosts can go beyond the humane limits to grab the TRPS. Weddings, Jinns & Baby-Showers :O are the last things that anyone would want to see on their screens early morning. I heard Nida Yasir announce her TRPs at the end of her wedding week saying we have the highest TRPs this week & the whole staff cheered. She has been crossing a few limits but the limit was Hira’s Baby Shower where she was seen easily discussing about her personal details & history. Sharing secrets & Mani was seen talking about Hira’s weight gain & to top it up Nida Yasir said I am craving for another baby hayeee Yasir to nahi sun raha?!?!?!? I mean seriously?
The target audience of morning shows are housewives belonging to a certain background with very moderate values. We belong to the mind-set where when a lady is in this phase of her life she draws a huge dupatta & doesn’t come in front of her father because of the shyness & hats off to Nida Yasir & Hira for telling women to break the monotony by crossing the limits. That was the time I completely lost it & posted a piece of my mind to Nida Yasir but conveniently I never got a reply.
I read many comments of people saying ‘band karo yeh shows’ in shows ko band ho jana chahiye’ but all in vein. I just read an amazing article of Nida Zaidi about how Pakistani Drama Industry crushed the Indian Drama Craze that prevailed all over Pakistan so I am hoping that we can crush this pathetic trend of Morning shows too. Why can’t anybody take a stand against these below-the-belt shows? Why don’t we just stop seeing them so that they do not get the TRP’s? What could be done in order to stop these morning shows where they are making people complexed by flashing their designer dresses & talking about expensive make up products? What do they wish to turn Pakistan into?
I personally enjoyed watching those few months of morning show when Sanam Baloch used to host the show decently followed by Chef Adeels’ cooking show. That was something good that we saw on the TV. Sanam Baloch did an amazing job & the show was purely based on the interviews of the celebrities not something unnecessary. Recently Maya Khan’s Kitchen Idol was something interesting too if she had cut those unpolished dancers.
The point is that we have the potential for a healthy entertainment, we do not lack the ideas but it’s just that the show hosts either need to shut it or become more aware & DECENT in order to stop giving headaches to the people. I still wish that we hear the Tilawat of Quran Majeed on every single channel not at the time of Fajr when people hardly tune into their TV’s but in the peak hours of morning where every housewife switches it on.
The clock strike 9 in the morning and the Pakistani audience is given a list of various morning shows to choose from. This trend of morning shows started from the famous Nadia Khan Show on Geo TV. Since then the morning shows have been much watched and have blended elements of interviews of most desirable celebrities, discussions of fashion trends, beauty tips, etc. However, the increasing competitive morning shows in race to increase their ratings have compelled the morning shows to try new stuff for their audience to stay glued to them and attract many others.
In Pakistani Television and films every thing is being upgraded the same way morning shows need to be upgraded. The shows definitely need some concept and content writers in order to avoid below the belt and harsh statements which do create discomfort for guests
Morning Shows need to be revised while they go on air.
Nida Yasir has been blamed for endorsement of her shopping her tours and she asks guest to showcase their make up routine, their cosmetics etc sometimes she just asks unnecessary things which is taken too negatively by audiances and in recent past the actresses were sharing her videos of shopping display on their instagram and referred it as a cringe worthy act.
In a show she showed all the shopping she did from USA. The health and tips segments are not necessarily needed. Its high time to create content based shows. Morning shows are often blamed for inviting same guests, same content.
Salam Zindagi is a renowned morning show Faysal Quraishi has massive fan following he started show in 2016. It is considered to be a good decent show but somehow now a days Adeel Amjad (AKA Aadi) has been criticised alot on Facebook because he has no filter on his mouth. His fans come to protect him but they are teenagers. There is another age group of mature people who actually don’t like the kind of jokes he throws which are often below the belt, most of the time he is found fake flirting with girls to make the show crispy which is actually uncalled for.
The show Faysal Quraishi did with Qavi Muhammad Sir, was good the way he talked to senior showed the respect element. Faysal Quraishi is not a strict person he tries to control Adeel Amjad but the guy has not provided with any code of ethics for the show, he is of his own kind, he is extemporaneous but this quality may become a drawback.
PEMRA needs to set what to be talked about on media and what not because it is getting out of hands now displaying shopping, doing wedding functions and compromising ethics, only freedom of speech without crossing the line is acceptable. Don’t make fun trolling a habit in shows, do not show off in shows. Please work on shows like Rewind with Samina peerzada, Say it all with Iffat Omar due to TRPs concept oriented shows have been shifted to YouTube unfortunately such shows used to be meant for Tv.
We are just attaching the comments here of all morning shows not only negative but mix of all the views
Farah Hussain is known for her unique style of hosting Morning Shows. Unlike other Morning Show hosts she does not add dances to her shows and mostly her show is more informative. Farah Hussain organized another interesting show recently by asking Javeria Abbasi and Noor to come to her show and talk about their experiences as Morning Show hosts.
Javeria and Noor shared some interesting aspects of hosting Morning Shows. They said that they appreciated the fact that Farah was educating people with her shows. But Farah Hussain said,
“When I meet people they appreciate me for doing a different show, for giving them information but the fact is that the shows in which there are dances and other things get more TRPs.”
Noor said that she was more comfortable acting than hosting. Morning Show hosts and showed in a short clip what hosting Morning Shows had taught them. Sanam Baloch said,
“I think that the objective of Morning Shows shouldn’t only be entertainment but we should try to focus on social issues too and do whatever we can for the society.”
Madiha Naqvi said,
“Hosting a Morning Show has made a better person. The only negative side of doing Morning Shows is that unless you have wedding functions on your show, the show does not get ratings. I don’t like that.”
Javeria Abbasi also shared,
“When Shaista Lodhi’s Morning Show was banned, the channels and the Morning show hosts were very scared. We used to get all kinds of strange instructions like how to wear our duppata, how to sit and what not.”
Faysal Qureshi said,
“Being a Morning Show host is tough for me because I am also an actor, I am doing films and I have to go to the gym. It is not easy to manage. The biggest advantage of hosting these shows is that there are so many things in my heart which I want people should hear and these shows give me the opportunity to do that. I want people to love each other and stop hating.”
Noor said,
“Nowadays the only criteria for being a host is that you should look good, nothing else matters.”
Morning Shows are aired for number of reasons, the biggest reason for airing these shows should be to educate the masses but that is most certainly not the case in Pakistan. Another reason can be to entertain the Apart from promoting commercialism and materialism, these morning shows also make a fool out of the genera public in many ways. Many of these morning show hosts stage activities and present them like it is a scenario from real life. Without any shame or regret they promote such things and as a result people are losing all respect for them. Which morning show in your opinion is the best? Also which Pakistani actor or actress would you like to see a host on you TV screens? Leave your comments below!
Generally speaking, I am dead against generalizing things, groups, or people but in this particular case I can’t help but generalize because after giving a lot of Morning Shows a shot every time the hosts changes I have come to the conclusion that there are some “qualities” which every Morning Show host must posses in order to fit in the “role” which the producers and perhaps the viewers have selected for them. Usually, a talk show reflects the personality, likes, and dislikes of the person hosting it but that is not the case in Pakistan. There is a certain formula that all the Morning Shows on different channels follow because for some odd reason it must be working for them. They are obviously catering to a particular kind of audience who must find these shows entertaining. Here are some of the qualities which every Morning Show host must have:
The Art Of Exaggeration!
Yes! After watching all these Morning Shows I have come to the conclusion that all our Morning Show hosts are experts at exaggerating things. They get excited over small things and obviously expect the same from their viewers! The audience in these shows is also directed to do the same and I am sure that most of the viewers like me are left wondering if they are the only ones who find this fake excitement exaggerated and Over The Top!
Acting Skills!!
Gone are the days when you could be a host without being an actor because our Morning Show hosts have to act a lot. Just being who they are is not good enough, you have to fake expressions and sometimes even cry, now how can anyone possibly do all this if they do not know how to act? Sometimes I feel like there is very little difference between scripted dramas and live Morning Shows because they are equally scripted and most of these shows are being hosted by actors who are apparently advised to put their acting skills to good use while hosting these shows.
A Low IQ Level!
Even actresses like Sarwat Gillani, Sanam Jung, and Sanam Baloch who are intelligent people in real life have to lower their IQ level in order to match the standards of the Morning Shows they are hosting. If you are intelligent and refuse to act like you’re not then you may not survive in the Morning Show race for too long, a prime example is that of Marina Khan! She wasn’t OTT, fake and dumb and she didn’t last too long;)
Loud Dressing
I have never been able to figure out why our Morning Show hosts dress up so formally and that too early in the morning! If hosting a Morning Show is like attending a wedding then they are dressed up perfectly for the occasion but if it is like a meeting with friends then they really need to rethink their dressing sense. Is dressing up loud a way to impress people? If it is then it is certainly not working!
There was a time when the cream of the entertainment industry was handpicked to host shows; these people were very articulate, refined, educated, polished, and brilliant. These people were true role models and their shows reflected their personalities. The hosts nowadays mostly bank on negative publicity and controversies to get attention. Being loud and over-confident unfortunately is a prerequisite for hosting a Morning Show. Even if the guests who are invited to the show are interesting, the loud music and the brainless questions make it impossible for the viewers to watch these shows.
What other “qualities” do you think a person needs to be a Morning Show host? Do share your thoughts!

Talking about men’s multiple marriages in Islam, Soha Afzal said, “what I want? I want to be a fourth wife to someone. I’ll share two reasons, I would not give you the religious interpretation. Well, our roots connect to the subcontinent where women can’t tolerate a husband’s second wife and we imitate them. Now, our women also can’t bear the second wives of their husbands. Secondly, Allah loves us more than seventy mothers; He wouldn’t allow what we can’t bear. So, I support men having four marriages.”. Here is the link to the video:

The second season of much popular web series is here, and we can’t be more excited!
Sacred Games is ruling the internet with great story, plot and its amazing actors. Netflix took Instagram to announce the second season will premiere on Independence day.
Based on the novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra, Sacred Games is Netflix India’s first original web series. The storyline follows Sartaj Singh, a Mumbai-based cop who is wonderfully human but a big mess and Ganesh Gaitonde is played by the one and only Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He has the most violent plans in his mind which might ruin the city.
The trailer for season two was released on July 16, and fans are going crazy about it. It is going to release on Netflix on August 15 and is expected to have eight episodes in total.
In an interview with PTI, Saif said, “he has lost a lot of blood, he is not eating much. He is running around a lot and he is not happy. There is a lot of drama and action happening”
After watching the trailer for season two, we believe it.
The season two has two more new characters including, Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey. Netflix announced that Kalki will embody Batya Abelman, a ‘lost soul who comes from a conflicting background’ (her father is Jewish-French and mother, who abandoned her, is Palestinian). Her journey of transforming from a rebellious and angry teenager with a drug addiction to a calm woman, under the guidance of Guruji.
Koechlin says, “Personally, I am a fan of the series, and it is super awesome to be a part of the Sacred Games and Netflix family. Season two promises to be much more exciting and I cannot wait for viewers to watch me in the series.”
Ranvir Shorey will play Shahid Khan. He reveals, “The digital platform is so empowering and working on this audience-favorite show has been an absolute delight! My character in Sacred Games 2, Shahid Khan, is a complete departure from any of the roles I’ve played before, and I’m looking forward to fans across the world bingeing on the new season.”
The new season will be much more twisted than the first one and the team is confident about it. It is so cleverly done, it goes back to the past and future and everything ties up. The previous season was quite basic. In season one you know about them, but in season two you are up to it. Saif Ali Khan has revealed that this season will also explore more about Sartaj’s family background and his father, who had an unexpected connection with Gaitonde. He says, “While season one set the stage, this season develops it further, and deals more with the inner workings of Sartaj’s mind, personality, background, family and father. It’s a logical progression; there’s a little more action, there’s a little more speed and drama, and it’s also when the whole sacred angle comes in.”
Sacred games is releasing second season on Netflix on August 15.
