Nadeem Baig is a seasoned Pakistani film and television actor known for his hit films like Dillagi, Chakori, Aina, Mukhra, Dehleez, Brandish, Shararat, Shama, Pakeeza, Zarrar, Ahaat, Chand Aur Chandni, Bulandi and many others. His real name is Mirza Nazir Baig, and he is 84 years old. The veteran actor also appeared on television in 2014 in Hum TV’s drama series Mol.

Recently, Nadeem Baig gave an exclusive interview to journalist Ambreen Fatima, where he opened up about the downfall of the Pakistani film industry and also responded to questions regarding the resemblance between films and dramas in Pakistan.

Talking about it, Nadeem Baig said, “It is because all the legendary filmmakers have passed away. Now, the people who are making films come from television. At least they are making films, but you all know what has happened to our industry. Cinemas have closed, studios have shut down, the entire film environment has disappeared. We lack facilities, resources, and work opportunities. We should still be thankful that people are doing whatever they can within their capacity.”

While discussing the downfall, Nadeem Baig said, “The major reason for the decline is that we went through a partition and lost a big market in East Pakistan. After that, studios began to vanish. Besides this, there are no film academies in Pakistan, and ticket prices have become too expensive. Our main audience was the lower-middle class, who used to visit cinemas for entertainment, but now they cannot afford it. We have talent—we only need to utilize it in the right way.”

He further added, “The studios have been shut down and turned into commercial areas. The entire atmosphere has changed. It is saddening to see that there are no more studios, no activity, and films are barely being made. Only Evernew Studio has somewhat maintained its original shape.”

Main Manto Nahi Hoon is a hit Pakistani drama serial currently airing on ARY Digital during prime time on Fridays and Saturdays. The story has been written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, directed by Nadeem Baig, and produced by Humayun Saeed. Talking about Azaan Sami Khan slap scenes, Nadeem Baig said, “He deserves all these slap, he should be even hit with shoes, he is the one messing around and creating fuss especially when everyone is ready to end this feud, he’s the one starting it.”

Nadeem Baig is an ace Pakistani director. He has directed many hit serials including the popular Barat Series. Nabila is Pakistan’s biggest stylist and fashion icon. She has made the fashion landscape of Pakistan from scrap. Nabila started out as a makeup and hair artist and stylist when there was no concept of such terms in the country. Like Pakistan is going through a lot of instability in the past few years and the public has questioned everything, these awards have come under a lot of scrutiny. Mehwish hayat and sajal Aly both received Tamgha e Imtiaz and many in the public were not happy with their achievements.

Nabeel Zafar is a veteran of the industry now. He became super famous with his drama Dhuwan and later on his sitcom Bulbulay has been successfully running for over 15 years now and people still love the humour. He has largely kept away from serious roles though he shined in Sar e Rah. He was a guest on FHM Podcast and had an interesting comment about awards these days.

He said that if you have to justify yourself after winning an award, you should not have gotten it in the first place. He talked about all the awards for artists and shared that he was once on the jury for an award show and as he asked questions, he was not invited the next year.

Nabeel Zafar is popular Pakistani actor who got immense popularity through his charachter of Dr. Daud from blockbuster old PTV play Dhuwan . Lately, Nabeel appeared in TimeOut With Ahsan Khan along with his colleague & popular actor Hina Dilpazeer. Nabeel expressed his honest opinion about awards in that show.

Talking about awards Nabeel said, “those are the awards you can’t get unless you use that soap, how can we get that award, we use red soap, we can’t use white soap”. Nabeel was completely against the criterion of awards that are given to actors, later on, he once again mentioned about the awards in the same show.

Talking again about the awards as Hina, Nabeel said, “Hina thinks same as me, awards are not based on justice, they don’t acknowledge work and credibility of an artist which is the soul purpose of awards. Now a days, they are PR-based awards. The organizers just give it to certain people repeatedly, the awards that are given to actors are not based on fair judgement, there is not justice in it”

Sania Mirza is a tennis star from India who made her country proud. She was previously married to Pakistani cricket player Shoaib Malik and the ex-couple share a son Izhaan Mirza Malik. Sania Mirza is very much loved in Pakistan as she was always very respectful and shared a bond with Shoaib’s teammates and their families as well. Their divorce was a shock to the two nations and Pakistanis have wished a lot of love and blessings to the tennis star.

She is coming up with a new show and she gave a statement that she is enough alone for that. She has time and again proved that too and people sent her love and strength.

The statement was discussed in Ahmed Ali Butt’s show and Nabeel Zafar was asked to react to it. Sania’s ex-husband Shoaib Malik has already moved forward and gotten married to actress Sana Javed.

Nabeel said that everyone is actually enough for themselves, but he thinks one should embrace Nikkah and Sania should marry again when she finds someone in her life. She can obviously take her time and take a decision when the time comes.

Social media these days is flooded with images of celebrities being flown to Dubai and enjoying there ahead of the grand ceremony of the Pakistan International Screen Awards, aka PISA 2020.

A horde of celebrities, the likes of Adnan Siddiqui, Hareem Farooq, Umair Jaswal and Hira Mani amongst others have already reached Dubai and are busy rehearsing for the main event. However, there has been a miscommunication of sorts with a few senior celebrities of the fraternity who were promised to be flown to the venue for the award ceremony.

Nabeel Zafar, Nadia Afghan, Adnan Shah Tipu and even Hina Dilpazeer, actors who had been nominated in various categories at the award show, are still in Pakistan while the organizers of PISA have stopped all sorts of communication with them.

Trying to clear away his and his fan’s awaiting him in Dubai for the awards, Nabeel Zafar recently took to his social media to share how there had been a huge miscommunication and mis-commitment on behalf of the PISA organizers.

“Dear fans and friends,
For the last couple of days you guys saw me being advertised and nominated in an Awards show ‘Pakistan International Screen Awards 2020’ for my performance in Bulbulay. Its a recognition that I feel has been given to me by all my fans who like my work in Bulbulay. I was approached by the organizers through their PR company Bodybeat and requested to attend the show in Dubai on Friday, 7th February 2020. Like me there were many of my colleagues and renowned actors who were asked for documents to travel today. Now suddenly the organizers have stopped their communication and put us in deep confusion as many of you in Dubai have been asking about our appearance in the show. This is total mis commitment as our names were used to promote the Awards show and now such an unethical move by the organizers is simply embarrassing. Such a move is an insult to me and many other artists who were contacted and committed to travel. It will also bring a bad name to our industry specially in front of people who have bought tickets to the show. To all the people who are expecting us in Dubai, Let me categorically inform you all that I will not be a part of the show,” wrote Nabeel on his social media.

Apparently Nabeel isn’t the only one who fell prey to the company’s miscommunication fraud. Veteran actors like Nadia Afghan, Hina Dilpazeer and Adnan Shah Tipu were also scammed. Their names used to market the award show and them not flown to Dubai for the show as it is.

Pakistanis are the people with big hearts, we are hospitable, our shopkeepers don’t charge them when they visit Pakistan and you all have witnessed how our actors literally ran from India. We never did that, we know where we are good at. We should run their movies but then my condition is the same, they should also play our movies in their cinemas, even if they flop. They don’t even buy our dramas, I know, they started a channel Zee Zindagi which was also closed. They have a good market but we also have talent and I admit that corruption ruined us, it is our big dilemma”.

Talking about Bulbulay, Nabeel said, “I returned from England in 2009 and was looking to do something independently. Previously, I was already working as a co-producer. However, when I was about to start my own production, I asked my mother to pray for the success of my projects. She reassured me, saying, ‘Don’t worry; I will request Allah for your production venture.’ After her prayers, I approached my friend Ali Imran for a script for free, and he gave (an already written) script which was “Bulbulay”. Then, I requested Rana Rizwan to direct it. I also brought Mehmood Aslam on board because he was my friend and was ready to work on a low budget.

Talking about the female cast, Nabeel said, “all the female actors refused to play Khoobsurat in the sitcom. I approached Maria Wasti for “Khoobsurat,” but she had other engagements. She referred Ayesha Omar to me who agreed to join “Bulbulay.” Later, I signed Hina Dilpazeer for one episode. She sketched her character, and her episode was loved by the fans. Hina expressed her desire to become a permanent part, so we conceived the character as Mehmood Sahab’s wife. In addition to “Bulbulay,” I directed “Ras Gullay,” “Honey Moon,” “Love Kay Liye,” “Dugdugi,” and other dramas, but “Bulbulay” is the longest and most successful venture.

Nabeel Zafar has shared the late Junaid Jamshed’s valuable advice to him. Nabeel Zafar started his career a few decades back and he became a sensation with his role in Dhuwan. He has since worked in many projects but his role as Nabeel in Bubulay made him a household name. Bulbulay has completed 15 years on television and the team is celebrating the success.

Nabeel has sustained the same team from cast and crew with him for the past 15 years. He was a guest on FHM podcast and shared a valuable advice late Junaid Jamshed have him after his sitcom became a mega hit.

He shared that Junaid told him to hold on to people he is working with as success is always a team effort. He added that Vital Signs was a hit due to the whole band and the team and no one could have single-handedly achieved such success. Therefore hold on to your core team.

Nabeel Zafar has been producing Bulbulay for over 12 years now. The iconic characters Momo, Nabeel, Khoobsurat and Mehmood Sahab are household names and families including children are big fans of the drama. Bulbulay is Pakistan’s longest running drama officially with over 600 episodes.

Nabeel Zafar who is the lead actor and producer of the show shared some interesting facts about Momo’s iconic glasses. The glasses are specially designed and are not available anymore as it is an old design. Nabeel is thus very possessive about the glasses as they are a part of Momo’s character and give her a certain look.

Nabeel has now been able to find two similar looking frames after years of shooting and thus the preservation has lessened a bit. But Nabeel still takes care of Momo’s special glasses and he is always worried that no one steps on them.

Nowadays, Pakistan, the actors who have been receiving pride of performance awards are giving justification of their awards. My take is, what is the use of such an award after which you have to tell people why have you gotten it? It’s better not to get an award like this. Award functions should happen but they should give it to genuine people.

He further added, “Awards are given by the public, like I have recently met a kid with Down syndrome, and he was literally living in the world of Bulbulay. Such awards are precious for us. In Pakistan, a get-together is arranged and named as award show”. Here is the link to the video:
