Kadurat Episode 14 – Mission Accomplished!

0

The story of the play is progressing along the same pattern which it has following since the beginning. When one issue moves towards resolution, another one surfaces. It was all good fun for a bit but now it seems like the writer took the viewers for granted and thought that a few shocking twists and turns after few episodes will keep the viewers hooked. Mahmood shares his concerns and all that transpired with Asad in tonight’s episode and when he did so once again I could not help but wonder how this man made it as far as he did! The entire Mahmood/Shaheen marriage track was badly conceived; that is mainly the reason why many people have been put off by the show.  Mahmood’s character always came across as simple but after the incident my opinion about his character has completely changed. He has gone from being simple to just plain brainless.

k6

This time around the misunderstanding between Alina and Daniyal was much more convincing unlike the last time when I found it hard to believe that Alina could fall for Mina’s trap. No doubt Alina had warned Daniyal about Mina’s intentions time and again but the fact remains that Daniyal has never experienced Mina’s scheming ways first hand. Not to mention the fact that all the men in the play seem quite dim-witted except for Asad so it is no surprise that Daniyal believed Mina.

k1

Shaheen and her cousin seem to be brewing up a storm. The looks that they shared in the restaurant showed that they may just be taking Mina for a ride as well. Will Mina have a family left to turn to once Shaheen turns her back on her or will she be left alone? Mina’s character has lost all my sympathy for obvious reasons and the story has come to a point where I am completely detached from Mina’s feelings. This of course shows the failure of the writer to develop a seemingly good character in a decent way. The writer could have taken the story further on the same track without resorting to extreme measures and at the same time Mina could have remained the scared, vulnerable and insecure girl she was in the beginning.

k3

Once again I couldn’t help but watch a few scenes from Darmiyan while changing channels during the commercial break and I have to say that I am slightly scared that this trend of young girls pursuing silly goals may be followed by other writers as well. I really hope though that it stops right here with these two plays. What is happening in both the plays is definitely not being appreciated so if the writers have any consideration for the sentiments of the viewers, they will not go down this path again.

Last year we had phenomenal plays like Durr-e-Shehwar and Hamsafar and definitely the hope that our drama industry is headed towards the right direction but this year there has hardly been a play that truly stood out. There were a few dramas this year as well which kept us looking forward to more but was there a play that remained exceptional throughout? I don’t think so. Here is to hoping that we get to see more quality dramas in the future since we have tons of talented actors, writers, producers and directors.

Kadurat Episode 13 – Even More Plotting and Planning!

0

I must admit that after watching this latest installment I truly felt for Mahmood’s character. He may be a dimwit but no one should have to go through what he is going through. The fact that his own daughter is putting him through so much distress makes him even more pitiable. Mina’s unfeeling attitude towards her father in particular has made her character completely evil. She is blindly out to take revenge without taking into consideration what effect it is having on others.

Shaheen continued to harass Mahmood in this episode too. Atiqa like always tried her best to make Mahmood open up to her and he finally did share something with her even though it was an indirect reference. One thing is for sure that there is no rescuing the story of this play now because it has completely gone haywire but I must say that the acting stayed top notch in this episode too and the direction was very good as well. What a waste of talent!

kad1

Alina’s confusion after watching Shaheen and her father together was portrayed nicely. Momal Sheikh’s acting is much better in this play as compared to some other plays that she has worked in.

Asma’s resignation came out of nowhere and once again Asad seemed more desperate than anything else. There was even more plotting and planning in this episode as well. Shaheen and Mina could easily pass for bullies who will do anything to ensure things go their way. They have trouble written all over them.

kad4

This episode was strictly okay. Honestly speaking, I am gradually losing interest in the play. I feel like I have been watching Shaheen and Mina scheming for way too long although the play has 13 episodes to its credit till now. Sanam Saeed is brilliant no doubt but the story is going around in circles. Something drastic happens and then there is calm before yet another storm. Having said that, I must say that sadly some of the plays on Hum TV in this season are flawed in so many ways that there are still aspects of Kadurat that can be appreciated. If the story was taken to another direction, this could have been a very powerful play.

kad2

I think Hum TV’s production values and picture quality is unmatchable and I hope that the channel will give us some unforgettable plays in the coming future too like it has in the past. I must say that the preview of the next episode did not appeal to me at all because the way things have been going this new development will lead to a dead end too. I am quite sure that there are many other people who are watching this show in fast forward mode out of sheer curiosity or of course for the love of Sanam Saeed because she really is the star of the show. I can still remember the excitement with which I looked forward to the show in the beginning because I was so hopeful that the newness of the story and the treatment given to it will give us something extraordinary but unfortunately that is not the case anymore.

Kadurat Episode 12 – Negativity Rules!

0

After the controversial dhamaka last week, the Kadurat clan decided to take it slow this week around. This episode focused on showing how disturbed Mahmood was after the “incident”. I couldn’t help but think that it was a little too late for all that thinking, but then that is Mahmood for you! Atiqa could not help but notice how distracted and troubled her husband was. Mahmood’s explanation that it was due to business matters sounded quite odd since Atiqa is a big part of his business, so if there was an issue she would already know about it instead of hearing it from Mahmood and believing it too!

kad3

Now I have really started thinking, just like many other viewers I am sure, that don’t Mina and Shaheen have a life? I understand why Mina is doing all that she is doing but the writer and the director completely forgot to enlighten the viewers as to why Shaheen is always playing the puppet in Mina’s hands. I was hoping that there will be a part of the story that will at some point introduce the viewers to Shaheen’s character in a better way but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Except for the very short scene in the one of the first few episodes, the viewers never really got a chance to identify with Shaheen’s personality. The viewers know that Shaheen is very negative and destructive but why is she like that, one can only guess!

kad4

Asad’s interest in Asma yet again failed to make an impact. They make a very odd couple and Asad actually appears to be a little desperate rather than in love – although that is not the case. Asma, in her own way, finally says yes which means that Mina and Shaheen will have another “target” now.

I caught a glimpse of Darmiyan too today and it looks like Kadurat is not the only play which seems to be portraying all the wrong things but Darmiyan is pretty much going on the same track too. Don’t our heroines have a better way of seeking revenge than to destroy people’s marriages and their self respect in the process.

kad2

Kadurat could have proved to be a very educational play for all those young people who lose their way because of the loss of a loved one or even for those parents too who tend to make wrong decisions but never realize how wrong they were. But instead of that, the play seems to be all about young girls playing with the lives of people who are so close to them. There was a time when I used to feel for Mina but the way she has completely gone negative is really putting me off. The character had an innocent side to it once but it is not there anymore. The writer has taken everything to the extreme and that is never a good idea. 12 episodes have gone on air till now and I think that the story is only going to go around in circles from now on. There will be many misunderstandings, a few break ups and maybe some more dhamakas and the happy ending does not seem to be in sight.  What Mina has done is unforgivable and it is almost like there is no hope for her anymore. When Mina decided to fake her friendship with Asad, I was hoping that the two will get closer and Mina will find a brother in Asad but that track was taken to a completely different direction too. Sanam Saeed’s remarkable performance has definitely not been put to good use at all. I really hope that the next project that Sanam Saeed chooses is a masterpiece like Talkhiyan. Hum TV is a channel many viewers have faith in, they expect nothing but quality entertainment from the MD production house. It is my request to Hum TV to choose quality scripts even if such plays don’t have a star cast.

Kadurat Episode 11 – Unbelievable!

0

Kadurat’s story has gone from happening and engaging to just plain mind-boggling. The sad part is that Kadurat had tons of potential, the writer came up with a brand new idea and the cast was very impressive too. Mina’s hatred for her step family has been very relatable but I have always been of the opinion that the story could easily have been taken forward without adding Mina’s desire to marry Shaheen to her father. The way Mahmood fell for Shaheen and Mina’s trap was completely unbelievable. The story is getting very sensational no doubt; I am sure despite of all the criticism many people just watch this show to find out just how far the writer will go or how the story will unwind. So, it probably serves the purpose of getting some public attention but shouldn’t the writers also be worried about what kind of attention they are getting? Sanam Saeed’s phenomenal performance in the play seems like a total waste of talent at this point. She was perfect even in tonight’s episode and I must say that there is a very obvious chemistry between her and Imran Aslam. Even though Asad and Mina do not like each other at all but their scenes are always perfect. You can feel the undeniable screen presence of both these stars.

kad2kad1

Mahmood has always been shown as a very dim-witted person but what he did today was more foolish than anything else that he has done till date! I wonder how someone with his IQ manages to run such a big business. He could have easily taken his wife into confidence and resolved the situation – getting married to Shaheen wasn’t the solution to the problem. Mahmood’s decisions right from the start have been devoid of logic – firstly he got married out of the blue, then he sent Mina away and now this! This is only the second play that Deepak Perwani has ever starred in, one would think that someone who works only once in a while would choose a better project. I fail to understand why our actors settle for mediocre scripts and why do our producers think that choosing a star cast will ensure the success of a play. I started watching this show primarily because of its unusual and very interesting cast. The story seemed very different and engaging in the beginning, gradually it started going around circles and now it has come to a point where one can watch it only out of curiosity to find out what will happen next and how crazy the happenings can be!

kad3

I am one of those viewers too who are following the show because they are waiting to find out how Atiqa will react once she finds out about what had happened. If the problem was the accusation by Shaheen alone, something could have been done about it but what will she do about the new relationship between Shaheen and Mahmood?

kad5

The preview of the next episode showed that Mina’s psychiatrist tells her that there is no hope for her and therefore he will stop seeing her. This turns Mina even more negative (if that is possible) and I cannot even imagine what worse she can do! She has tried every negative tactic in the book and more. Mina and Shaheen’s adventures were good fun for a while but honestly speaking they are getting extremely disturbing now.

Did you watch tonight’s episode? Do you think that Kadurat had a lot of potential but the disappointing turn that the story has taken has marred any chances that it had to qualify as a quality serial?  If you’re still enjoying the show, please feel free to share your opinion here.

Kadurat Episode 09 – Interesting Developments

0

The story definitely took a big leap forward in this latest episode and the “pattern” that was being followed till now was broken. Mina’s decision to patch things up with Asad may just have a very positive impact on her life. For now she maybe staging everything to win Asad’s confidence but gradually when he starts giving her the love and attention she has been looking for, she might just change for good. But then Asad’s new secretary may prove to be a threat; I find Asad’s interest in his secretary off putting perhaps because I don’t like her at all. Her confidence and khuddari hasn’t appealed to me one bit till now. The character could have been very impressive if it was being played by someone else.

Shaheen’s efforts seem to be bearing fruit. It is quite apparent that Mahmood will not be falling for Shaheen anytime soon but Atiqa feels insecure because of Shaheen’s behavior. The confrontation between Shaheen and Atiqa went to show that Atiqa will do anything to keep Shaheen away from her husband; I am waiting to find out what she is capable of doing because until now she seems like a very harmless person.

kadurat2

The mystery regarding Mina’s sessions with the psychiatrist was solved today too. The viewers were wondering whether the psychiatrist actually was falling for Mina’s lies or he knew that she was only making up stories. How is the psychiatrist going to deal with Mina now that he knows that she was telling lies? Until now he has been confused but I must say that he took a great deal of time to talk to someone in the family in order to clear this confusion. The psychiatrist has not been able to help Mina in any way at all apart from helping her vent out her anger.

                                 kadurat6kadurat7

This episode did not revolve around Mina alone like all the previous episodes. An equal amount of time was given to Shaheen and Asad’s track. For a change the latest developments in the Shaheen/Mahmood track have made it more engaging but I could happily fast forward the scenes with Asad and Asma in them. Just like Daniyal and Alina’s romance, this new relationship has absolutely no charm.

kadurat1

Despite of everything that Mina has done till now, I still feel for her character and hold her father responsible for her condition. Even today what Mahmood says today after hitting her was very wrong. This episode was much more entertaining than the last one. I hope that the show moves in the right direction now that the pattern of Mina’s adventures has been broken for some time. Right now, I am more interested in finding out how Atiqa teaches Shaheen a lesson. I have a feeling that there might just be trouble ahead for Atiqa and Mahmood. Sanam Saeed like all the other episodes was the star of the show even today. She has added small touches to this character that makes it stand out.

Kadurat Episode 07 – Mina vs Alina

0

This was another episode of Kadurat in which Mina continued executing her plans to make her step family’s life miserable. The interesting thing is that no matter how evil Mina may be but she expects to be loved. The way she felt after she was rejected by Daniyal went to show that she longs to be loved and accepted despite of all her weaknesses. I find this part of Mina’s personality very relatable because every human being wants to be accepted by others and feels rejected and led down if he doesn’t get enough love, no matter what kind of a person he is. Girls who are either deprived of their father’s love in childhood or are overprotected tend to be the way Mina is; she tries to woo her psychiatrist, wants to marry Daniyal, gets hurt when Asad shows affection towards Alina and wants her father all to herself. What she does is a direct outcome of her insecurities and the yearning to be loved especially by the men in her life. It is almost as if she is trying very hard to fill a vacuum in her life. There’s a saying that goes like this “The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread” – that is so true!

k8

Atiqa has taken an about turn; the “I will save my family at any cost” demeanor did not last for long. She found it hard to tolerate Shaheen’s rude behavior and threats because she isn’t Mahmood’s daughter but Mina is allowed to cross all limits only because she is Atiqa’s step daughter. Giving her everything (and everyone!) she wants is not the solution of the problem especially when it involves another person as well. What makes Atiqa think that Daniyal will gladly agree to marry Mina? The part where Atiqa asked Alina to “sacrifice” was unbelievable. Mahmood’s reaction on the other hand was much more convincing.

k4

I breathed a sigh of relief when Daniyal and Alina talked about their problem and managed to sort them out. That was definitely the way things should have been. Had this engagement ended because of what Mina did, it would not have been relatable at all. Junaid Khan’s hairstyle in the scene in which he is talking to Alina to convince her that he wanted her in his life was terrible.

k9

The scene in which Shaheen tries to woo Mahmood was definitely very distasteful and awkward. The story could have easily moved forward just as well even if this particular track was not added in it. The scene after this one in which Mahmood walks in on Mina while she is taking some pills seemed like it came out of nowhere. There were a few other scenes as well that seemed like a case of a poor execution, like Alina walking in when Daniyal and Mina are together. That particular scene could have been done well.

k33

Sanam Saeed’s performance was flawless yet again all through this episode. She was especially brilliant in the scene in which she meets the psychiatrist and tells him about his suicide attempt. I found it somewhat unbelievable that everyone except Asad fell for Mina’s fake suicide story. Nida Khan performed well in few of the scenes but in most of the scenes she was completely expressionless. Mina is actually contemplating killing Alina; which is a very scary thought!

k1

The preview of the next episode suggested that Atiqa is finally going to pay a price for her wrong attitude towards the problems her children are facing because of Mina. This latest episode was very happening like always but like all the previous episodes the surprise element was missing because we already saw in the preview what was coming our way. This time around as well, the main twist in the next episode was revealed in the preview! Sanam Saeed makes this show a treat to watch; her performance has been very powerful throughout.

Kadurat Episode 06 – Jealousy Is Incurable!

0

Tonight’s episode definitely had some very convincing developments to its credit; Mahmood finally appeared to be more involved in his daughter’s life and Atiqa’s reaction to Shaheen’s offensive  behavior was much more real than her no care or ignore everything attitude till now. On the other hand, there were also certain aspects of the story that were very unbelievable; Alina falling for Mina’s lies instantly and how could Daniyal be naïve enough to believe what Mina told him even for a second? Alina and Daniyal have known each for long enough and know Mina very well too, so how could they possibly let Mina create a misunderstanding between the two? Besides that even after everything that Alina had told Daniyal about Mina why did he go to meet her?

kadurat1

We didn’t get to see the aftermath of Mina’s plan to ruin Alina’s party directly. But we saw a very worried Mahmood sitting by Mina’s bedside and Alina being upset about what had happened. No one talked about why Mina had fainted and she never went to the doctor; which was rather odd. I was expecting this episode to take off from where the last one ended but it actually did not. How could Mahmood take the comment that Alina was upset because her party had been ruined so casually? It was as if everyone knew that Mina had done the fainting act on purpose. I have to say that I felt a little lost in the beginning of the episode maybe because I was expecting it to start a little differently. The rest of the episode was much better than I had expected it to be because no matter how crazy Mina’s plans maybe, the fact is that the developments in the story keep you entertained and yearning for more.

kadurat5kadurat4

Mahmood’s conversation with Mina about how things were in the house proved to be as fruitless as it always has been! Mina’s crazy plan to get Shaheen married to her father lost its shock value because the promos had already shown that Mina will come up with this plan at some point. Sheheens’s initial refusal and the anticipation that should have followed, as to whether she will go along with the idea or not was also killed because the preview of this episode showed that she finally decides to do whatever Mina wants her to. I wish we could have known something about Shaheen’s background. We know that she does not come from a very well off family because in one of the scenes shown in the first few episodes, it was shown that she envied Mina for getting all the expensive gifts. Other than that we do not know much about Shaheen and why she is so negative and rude. Nida Khan’s acting till now has not been very impressive; she does very well in some scenes but is very disappointing in others.

kadurat 2

The conversation between Mina and her psychiatrist was very meaningful and I especially liked the part when the psychiatrist says to Mina “jealousy ka koi ilaj nahi hota”. Sanam Saeed’s expressions in response to this dialogue were priceless and conveyed exactly what she wanted to convey to the viewers. Mina knows only too well that she is the most jealous person in that house and knowing that jealousy is incurable couldn’t be good news! Mina’s “special interest” in her psychiatrist seems rather alarming; we can only wonder what is brewing in her mind!

kadurat8

Sanam Saeed has been the star of the show till now; she has truly outdone herself and proved that she is a very versatile actress. I would like to give a suggestion to the team of Kadurat; it would be very nice if the precap of the previous episode was shorter and the preview of the next episode didn’t give away all the twists in the upcoming episode. This may seem completely out of context but am I the only who finds it odd when people eat their toast and eggs with a knife and a fork in the dramas?

Overall, Kadurat has proved to be an entertaining play till now; the credit goes to the entire team of the show but in particular, the writer, director and Sanam Saeed for doing a fabulous job.

Kadurat Episode 05 – Enter Shaheen!

0

Today’s episode of Kadurat was not as fast paced as the previous ones but then it would be unfair to expect every episode to be very happening. The stage has been set for what Mina and Shaheen will have in store for their family in the upcoming episodes. Mina’s attitude towards her family went from bad to worse mainly due to Shaheen’s arrival. Asad’s cold reaction towards Mina further aggravated the situation. Even though, Mina’s psychiatrist clearly told her father that she needed assurance of his love for her, we didn’t see Mahmood spending any time with Mina. Atiqa went out of her way yet again to mend ties with her step daughter but the response she got was nothing new. I would have liked to see more interactions between Mina and her father. It seems like Mahmood is still in denial just like he was many years back. How could he possibly think that Atiqa’s addition to the family was positive in every way possible when it affected his own daughter in such a negative manner?

k3

Mina and Shaheen both appeared to be grown up children today because everything they did was highly immature. Mina’s plans to win Daniyal over and Shaheen’s “office strategy” sounded very childish. Probably the reason behind Atiqa turning a blind eye to everything that is happening is exactly that. I have to admit though that two such negative minded girls can play havoc with anyone’s life because there isn’t much that anyone can do to restrain Mina in particular.

k1

Alina’s character is very sweet and Momal Sheikh has done complete justice to her role. I could completely relate to the helplessness she felt and the way she must feel when she is away from the house and Mina! But at the same time she takes a stand for herself whenever she can so she is definitely not too sweet to be true. Asad would want to do something about the situation but his hands are tied because his mother won’t allow him to talk to Mina’s father. Imran Aslam is a very gifted actor; he is always in superlative form. I must add here that Mahmood sahib has created a monster due to all the wrong decisions he took but he holds no responsibility for it whatsoever.

k4

Mina’s visits to the psychiatrist have been very nicely covered. They give us an insight into Mina’s personality and also go to show that it is just as important for the patient’s family to keep an active communication with the psychiatrist. Mahmood may have referred Mina to the psychiatrist but we never see him asking him for a feedback unless he calls himself

k5

The preview for the next episode suggested that Mina is going to come up with another outrageous plan to get rid of her step family. I am actually looking forward to how things go from here because until now I have been missing Mahmood’s involvement in the whole scenario. Things are going to get much more complicated when Mina and Shaheen execute their plan.

The performances by all the actors have been outstanding throughout the play and the direction once again was flawless. I hope that the writer manages to keep the interest of the viewers intact till the end.

Kadurat Episode 04 – Engaging and Entertaining

0

This latest installment of Kadurat was just as happening as the last three. The story definitely has newness and the treatment given to it is A-grade. Sanam Saeed looks terrific and fits in perfectly in a character that can’t be easy to perform. In the last episode Mina was shown as a scared and insecure girl who felt alienated in her own house. But, today’s episode went to prove that Mina’s character will have a lot of surprises in store for the viewers. Another good thing about the play is that each character is being revealed to us gradually. Apart from finding out that Mina is quite capable of making her family’s life a living hell all on her own; we also discovered that there is a reason why Alina is so scared of Mina.

k1

Alina’s conversation with Daniyal in which she mentions that Mina has always taken away from her all that was dear to her went to show that Mina has always been this way with Alina. This means that she must have been visiting regularly while she was away at the hostel. All the conversations between the different characters were very well thought out and to the point. The screenplay definitely offers a few surprises because personally as a viewer I wasn’t expecting Mina to get “comfortable” this soon.

k2

Mahmood’s conversation with the psychiatrist was also a very important scene which explained Mina’s behavior as well as Mina’s irregular visits to the psychiatrist and how she can be “cured”. When the doctor suggested to Mahmood that Mina needs a lot of love and care, I couldn’t help but think that maybe it was too late for that even! She has been living with the bitterness for far too long and also she had a scarred childhood. Yes, she is a grown up now and really should know better. But, the fact is that Mina is sick and unless her sickness is cured, her attitude will not get better.

k3Asad’s confidence was seriously shattered by the latest developments and I found his mother’s attitude rather odd. Even after everything that has transpired, she is not taking the matter seriously. She brushed off the Mina giving her milk incident aside without giving it a second thought. I think the viewers must be convinced by now that Mina indeed is a serious threat to the family.

k5The best scene of today’s episode had to be the one in which Mina tries to push Alina down the staircase. The timing was just perfect; it had been shot and acted out to perfection. The director and the actors deserve big thumbs up for that scene in particular. The editors of the play deserve special appreciation for the crisp editing which is one of the reasons that each episode keeps you glued to your seat.

k4Zoha Hassan has really amazed me with her script till now. The reason being that the story is brand new and also because the screenplay is very engaing. Although, the viewer’s have been watching Mina’s negative attitude right from the first episode but the things she does are very unpredictable. I did not expect her to go as far as giving all of Alina’s precious jewelry including her necklace which she treasured so much to the maid but I guess we should expect the unexpected from Mina from now on. A part of me was on the fence regarding the storyline because the entire “taking the revenge” can get boring but it surely isn’t the case till now.

k6

Every play is a success or a failure based on team effort and Kadurat till now has proved to be a splendid example of great team effort. The writer has come up with a novel script since every second play revolves around married life and its complications. The director Aabis Raza has surely outdone himself, I cannot praise him enough. The editing team has done a better job than the editing team of many other more popular plays. All the actors are at their best in Kadurat and their portrayals are flawless. I know Kadurat has only four episodes to its credit but the fact that the story has a good pace helps you judge the overall storyline better. In today’s episode Momal Sheikh was just as brilliant as Sanam Saeed. Overall, this was a very engaging episode and the preview for the next episode made me look forward to more.

Kadurat Episode 03 – Mina Is Back!

0

Even after so many years Mina’s step family couldn’t possibly be prepared enough for what was coming their way. All the pent up anger and bitterness against her step family has transformed Mina into a more negative person than she already was. Mina’s father never addressed the issues she had in the first place so her condition has gone from bad to worse. Mina may have grown up but the last memory of her mother has not left her. Even after so many years she does not have the strength or the state of mind to deal with what happened.

k4k3

The most powerful scene in today’s episode had to be the encounter between Mina and her step brother Asad (Imran Aslam). The dialogues were short but very meaningful and the acting by both the actors was very impressive. Asad has grown up to be a very confident individual; he is no longer the scared boy who didn’t feel like he was not a part of the new house he had just moved in. The dialogues “Beta kis baap ka hun” clearly showed that Asad owned the status of being the son of the person his mother married. I have to say though that Mina’s threats did not seem to carry any weight since it seems like Mina lacks the tact that a person would need in order to tackle the situation she is in. She hides nothing; her hatred for her family members is very apparent. Aleena and Asad had each other all these years and of course had parents to love them too but Mina was left to fight her demons alone. The way they have been raised shows in their personalities.

k1

All through the episode I was wondering how Mina will achieve any of her objectives. She maybe great at pulling pranks, bullying others and putting others in an uncomfortable position but nothing more than that. Mina’s behavior had a very childish side to it. She maybe negative but she still appeared to be the scared little girl who did not know how to handle the situation her father had put her in. I could not help but feel for her character especially in the scene when Mina decides to walk out of the party. The OST playing in the background explained Mina’s feelings so well. She was too little when her father “abandoned” her. She still does not blame her father because he is probably the only family she has. One can clearly see why Mina has turned out to be such a complicated person. She lost her mother and her father at the same time, her father sent her away as a punishment for not being able to deal with the situation properly.

k5

Shaheen (Nida Khan) has been there for Mina all these years; one can easily imagine how they managed to be such good friends. Shaheen’s presence in the house is only going to make things worse for everyone else. It was quite apparent that Mina does not have half the confidence she would normally have without her best friend. Quite unlike Mina, Aleena has everything going for her. She is madly in love with a family friend Daniyal (Junaid khan) who also cannot wait to get married to her. I have to say that the promos of the serial did give away a lot of what Mina will be doing in the future. It would have been so much better if the promos would have been more to the point.

k6

The best thing about this play till now has to be the pace with which the story is progressing, the character development, the choice of actors and also the direction. Did you watch tonight’s episode? Please share your views about it.

Kadurat Episode 02 – Meena The Troublemaker!

0

Today’s episode like the last one focused on Meena’s childhood and it was actually good to see more of Meena as a child because that gave the viewers an opportunity to understand her personality better. Has anyone heard of the Sadistic Personality Disorder? If you haven’t I suggest you look it up and you will understand why I have brought it up in this review. I think Meena is a classic case of that disorder; she derives pleasure out of causing pain to others and she does it impulsively. Whenever things get out of control for Meena, mostly emotionally, she resorts to such measures in order to feel like she is still in control. That is what I derived from everything that I saw Meena doing in today’s episode.

k1

Meena’s father finally makes up his mind about sending her to the hostel. Mahmood’s decision to send Meena to the hostel without trying further to address her issues did remind me of Deepak Perwani’s character in Mere Pass Pass. Before dropping her off, her father does give her a choice, if she could get along with her new family she wouldn’t have to go to the hostel. That was such a meaningful scene which said so much about Meena’s personality. Meena does not mingle with other kids, she did make a “friend” right in the beginning of her hostel life but we never saw the two friends talking to one another but it seemed more like Shaista envied Meena maybe because she didn’t come from a very affluent household. Everything that Meena did with her roommate today went to show that it wasn’t just her step siblings who were victims of her “adventures” but she would gladly put anyone in that position. The whole purpose is to inflict pain on someone; it could be anyone at all!!

k4

Mahmood’s second wife gradually takes over his business and the two get on really well with each other with Meena out of the way. I did get the feeling that Mahmood’s decision to send Meena to the hostel was somewhat selfish. He is obviously hoping that she will grow up and learn to deal with and accept things by the time she comes back home but I guess we all know too well that non of that is going to happen. If Meena gets closer to Shaheen (her new friend), I think they may turn out to be a lethal combination. I must add here that I find Meena’s character very intriguing indeed. It has been very well etched out and the child star playing the character is doing an impeccable job.

k2

Today’s episode was a treat to watch especially because of the brilliant acting by the child star playing Meena in particular and because of the way it was directed. The background score added a more dramatic effect to all the scenes. All the scenes had been very intelligently put together. Until now I am quite impressed with Zoha Hassan’s script as well especially because of the way she has penned down Meena’s character.

k3

The preview of the next episode showed that Meena has not changed at all even after all these years. How will Meena’s step family and father deal with Meena now that she is not a kid anymore? I have very high hopes from Sanam Saeed, therefore I am surely waiting for her to make her presence felt in the upcoming episode. The best thing about tonight’s episode was that it established the fact that Kadurat is going to be very different from Zard Mausam because Meena is no Aimen, her character is very different. Aimen was a very weak, insecure but spoiled nevertheless. Meena is a much more strong person and a lot more negative as well.  Did you watch the latest episode of Kadurat? Kadurat Episode 01 – A Good Start

0

After watching the promos and reading the synopsis of the story of Kadurat online, I guess we all had a fair idea what we were in for. For me Sanam Saeed and Deepak Perwani in particular had to be the key reason for looking forward to this show. Besides that the promos seemed very enticing, mainly because they made it look like this was going to be a very happening play! I haven’t watched another play written by Zoha Hassan, so I am not sure what to expect, which actually is a good feeling. The play has been directed by Aabis Raza – the same director who has directed Kankar. Apart from Kankar, he has directed many other plays as well for instance Zard Mausam and Mujhe Roothne Na Dena.

kadurat 1

One thing that I wasn’t expecting at all was that the first episode actually reminded me of Zard Mausam quite a lot – yes the circumstances of this particular household are world apart but the fact that the same child star who played Aimen is playing the character of Meena brought back a lot of memories because the two characters are very similar. The only difference is that the father’s attitude is completely different towards her daughter in this particular play.

kadurat 2

Kadurat is the story of Mahmood’s (Deepak Perwani) household. Mahmood had a happy, stable life until his wife Zainab (Zhalay Sarhadi) passed away in an accident. We didn’t find out just how much time has elapsed since his wife passed away but it seemed like she died only recently. Mahmood marries another woman (Angeline Malik) mainly because he needs someone to look after his daughter. His second wife had an abusive husband who never trusted her and he divorced her over a petty issue. She has two kids Asad (Fazal Hussain) and Aleena (Yashal Nadeem) and as his second wife points out she got married to Mahmood only because of “zarurat”. Mahmood’s daughter Meena is not willing to accept her step mother and siblings; she turns violent and resorts to all kinds of mischievous tactics to get the kids and the mother out of her house. Meena’s father never even told her before bringing this new family in the house and it was quite evident that Meena is not ready for such a big change. I definitely hold the father’s wrong decision partially responsible for the outcome. She was very fond of her mother and would not allow any other woman to take her place. Mahmood finds it very difficult to deal with this complicated situation especially because Meena’s behavior goes from bad to worse. Her step mother also tries her utmost to deal with the situation in an apt manner but Meena turns into a stubborn child who won’t listen to any amount of reasoning. Her greatest fear is that “these people” will take her father away from her and that fear is going to come true in the next episode. She is too young to understand that it is her own behavior that will lead to what is coming ahead. The preview of the next episode showed that Mahmood decides to send Meena to the hostel.

kadurat 3

Mahmood’s inability to deal with the situation was actually quite relatable. Women are far better at dealing with children than men. Overall, this first episode was well directed and very well acted out. All the child stars in particular did an outstanding job but I do feel for the child star playing Meena because this young girl is so talented but the producers seem to be typecasting her.I especially noticed the way the flashbacks were shown in black and white , that added a good effect to the overall feel of this first episode. I really liked the fact that the story starts from Meena’s childhood, that way the viewers will understand better why Meena is the way she is. Having said that Meena’s character is a little on the extreme side, I wish we could have seen a gradual worsening of behavior as opposed to this evil child who has actually been raised by two very good hearted people. I know that something so tragic as a mother’s sudden death can be very disturbing for a child and he or she can react in any possible manner but even then Meena’s character did seem a little unbelievable since she wasn’t always so evil. Meena, even with all her negativity seemed like a child who wanted attention and did not know what to do to fill the void in her life that was left by her mother’s demise.

Kadurat – Episode 16

0

Shaheen and Mina both are finally out of Mahmood’s house and it seems like the play is heading towards a conclusion. The fiery confrontation between Atiqa and Shaheen was completely spoiled due to Nida Khan’s expressionless face. Atiqa’s reaction for the first time seemed more real and Angeline Malik was brilliant through out tonight’s episode. Some of the things in tonight’s episode left me totally clueless. First and foremost, like I mentioned in the last review as well that why doesn’t Mahmood divorce Shaheen? Secondly, what does Mina want from her psychiatrist? Thirdly, why was she ignoring Shaheen in the beginning of the episode and desperately trying to get in touch with her later on? Fourthly, why did Mina tell her father that she had asked Shaheen to do all that she did. This development in particular made absolutely no sense. Mina has been shown as a very smart girl, it wasn’t like her at all to spill the beans for no reason whatsoever. One minute Mina is thinking about the positive things that her psychiatrist said to her and the next minute she is back to playing the games that she has been playing till now. Mina’s desire to be close to all the men in her life or even those who are not really part of her life is actually very upsetting!

kad1

Daniyal may have broken off his ties with Alina but he has not been able to get over everything that happened. The last episode focused on showing how Alina reacted to the break up and this one focused entirely on Daniyal. Asad proved to be the knight in the shining armor for Asma and they seem to be headed towards a happy ending. Both these romantic tracks have no appeal whatsoever primarily because there is hardly any chemistry between these two couples.

kad2

Mahmood’s reaction to Mina’s confession was the only good thing about tonight’s episode. This was exactly the way he should have reacted. The scene was very well directed; the flashbacks and the reaction of the rest of the family was shown very well. I absolutely love the OST of the play; the lyrics are very well written and it has been sung very nicely too but I fail to relate it to Mina’s situation now. There was a time when I could feel Mina’s pain but not anymore.

kad3
The preview of the next episode showed that Shaheen will reveal her true colors in the very soon. Mina’s seemed unaffected by the fact that her father had disowned her, she seemed more worried about the failure of her grand plan! Adnan and Shaheen are brewing up a storm, how will Mina deal with the situation? She has been deriving her strength from Shaheen for such a long time, it will come as a big shock to her when and if she turns against her.

I have to say that Kadurat must not be doing that bad in terms of getting the desired TRPs because it still retains the 8pm slot and it has many sponsors as well. Did you watch this latest episode? Do share your views about it.

Kadurat – Episode 08

0

Honestly speaking, even after everything that Mina has put her family through I find it impossible to dislike her character. It could be because Sanam Saeed has played this character so brilliantly that she has completely overshadowed every other character in the play. I am not quite warming up to Aleena and Daniyal’s romance; they do not come across as cute at all. Aleena’s character is likeable but the romance between Aleena and Daniyal seems forced. The highlight of tonight’s episode was Mina’s attempt to kill Aleena. I couldn’t help but wonder that why didn’t the “poison” that Mina add to the tea made it taste bitter! This particular development was very unconvincing and why did Aleena have to think so much when Mahmood asked her that who made the tea for her! Since, she wasn’t sure how good Mina’s intentions were in the first place.

k2

Mina’s plan to fire the secretary on the other hand was very intelligently planned and executed. The blackmail worked like a charm and Mahmood was left with no choice but to side with Mina. Asad, like always could clearly see through Mina but was completely helpless. The introduction of the new character Asma seemed a bit out of place. Asma’s character failed to impress me primarily because the acting of the actress playing the role was extremely unconvincing. The dialogues were not very impressive either. It was quite evident that Asad was completely swayed away from this girl’s confidence but aren’t secretaries supposed to be the kind of girls who follow orders as opposed to telling their bosses right from wrong? She could have been fit for any other job but definitely not for the job that Asad wants to hire her for.

k6

Shaheen’s attempts to woo Mina’s father continued throughout the episode; Mahmood is not “warming up to her” at all. I do not like this particular track of the story at all; it is sad to see a young girl belittling herself the way Shaheen is. I must confess that the only character that truly leaves an impact on the audience is that of Mina and the only reason for it being so is Sanam Saeed’s brilliant performance.

k4

Asad finally decides to retaliate to what Mina has been doing. He seems like one of those people who either ignore things or retaliate in a very ruthless manner. Unlike, the past few episodes, the direction wasn’t very impressive in this one. There were times when I felt that the scenes ended abruptly. Like, when Atiqa gets up to ask Aleena about her consent and we were taken straight to Asma’s house. Atiqa’s reaction to whatever happened to Aleena was once again very strange. I would have expected her to go frantic but she was calm enough.

k5

The preview of the next episode showed that Mahmood will stop trusting Mina altogether. For once she tells him the truth but he reacts in the worst manner. This is only going to make Mina’s condition worse; where is the psychiatrist in all this? The counseling is not helping Mina at all but it almost feels like Mina is taking the psychiatrist for a ride too!

This best thing about this latest installment just like all the previous ones was Sanam Saeed’s flawless portrayal of Mina. She is the one who makes this show worth watching and she actually makes it hard to dislike Mina’s character because she portrays Mina’s insecurities and fears just as well as her negative side.

Kadurat – A Happy Ending

0

I am usually not a big fan of unrealistic endings but I have to say that I am relieved that this play did not have a realistic ending. Every character in Kadurat suffered so much in the past episodes that by the end of the play I wanted their problems to end. It is highly unlikely that someone with issues as complicated as Mina’s can completely change but it is also true that good communication, understanding and love can change a great deal. Sometimes people need a wake up call and Shaheen gave Mina just that. The way in which Doctor Zohaib’s character bridged the communication gap between Mina and her father in particular was actually quite good because I wouldn’t have liked it if the doctor didn’t have a substantial role to play in the story. Tonight’s episode like all others belonged to Sanam Saeed, she completely stole the show by making the viewers feel for her character and giving them a reason to forgive her. Sanam Saeed’s performance was outstanding throughout the serial, she owned this character right from the get-go.

kad1
This was a very fairytale ending in which practically everyone got what they wanted and they truly lived happily ever after. Mahmood finally realized that no matter what kind of a person Mina was the fact was that she is her daughter and he cannot run away from that responsibility. Mahmood’s first mistake was to bring a second wife with children to Mina’s life without ever asking her how she felt about it. I thought I would never hear Mahmood accepting all his mistakes but he did just that. Everyone realized where they had gone wrong and most often such realization is good enough to set things straight.

kad2
I watched this last episode with a smile on my face and it was a little emotional too. Atiqa stayed level headed right till the end. There were times when I thought her attitude was annoying but mostly I really liked her character. Her confidence was actually very inspiring.
Deepak Perwani has a very unique style of acting and I have always liked it. He was perfect for the role he played in Mere Pass Pass and he was also ideal for playing the role of Mahmood. I have to admit though that Mahmood’s lack of understanding for many things was somewhat unbelievable sometimes. There were times when I thought he lacked commonsense even.

kad4
Imran Aslam is a superb actor, there is o denying that but I must confess that I liked him much more in Sanjha and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Saare. Nida Khan’s acting needs a lot of improvement but that doesn’t stop the producers from casting her in leading roles! I know only too well that most of the people here are not big fans of Momal Sheikh’s acting but I liked her in this one. She played the role of the insecure/scared girl nicely.
Overall, this was a very decent ending and one that I enjoyed watching. The drama ended rather early compared to the rest of the serials which must complete 20 episodes or so no matter what. Did you watch this last episode? Do share your views about it.

Kadurat – Episode 15

0

This latest installment of Kadurat showed the aftermath of Alina and Daniyal’s broken engagement. Apart from that, Mahmood finally told Atiqa the truth; a moment we all had been waiting for. The scene in which Mahmood’s tells Atiqa what had happened did not have the impact it should have had. Apart from that, there is a lot about this play that is making very little sense now. For example, I never fully understood Asma’s behavior; why did she walk out on Asad and is now going to marry someone she does not even like? Her explanation about the difference in class wasn’t convincing enough and the way she resigned was also  very unexpected. This particular track did not take off right from the start and is being given the attention it does not deserve. Besides that, the conversation about Shaheen that Mahmood’s family had after Mahmood told Atiqa the truth was very confusing. If everyone knows the big secret now, why can’t they openly talk about it? Also, all Mahmood needs to do now is to divorce Shaheen and this chapter will be closed forever. I hope that the matter is not prolonged further because it already has taken a lot of undue screen time.

kadurat5

I was expecting a more fiery reaction from Atiqa for obvious reasons but her response was actually quite impressive. Her character could have been very likeable if she wasn’t shown as someone who is so gullible. She is very sensible and I like the way she trusts Mahmood. The only aspect of her personality that does not go in line with her character is the manner in which she continues supporting Mina despite of everything that she has done till now. She obviously does so out of respect for her husband but it isn’t humanly possible for a mother to forgive someone who has done so much to harm her children.

Momal Sheikh’s acting was extremely disappointing today. There was a lot of focus on Alina today but too bad that Momal Sheikh could not deliver. I failed to feel for Alina’s character.

kadurat 1

Asma’s khala’s character maybe very annoying and unreasonable but the actress playing it is doing a wonderful job. Having said that, I didn’t quite understand how Asad found out who Asma was getting married to and as a result of the marriage her Khala was going to get rich! Since he found out only a few hours back that she was getting married. Did I miss something?

kadurat6

Overall, this episode was below average. The story could have been taken forward in a much better manner even after all the bloopers in the past. Atiqa knows the truth and there isn’t much to look forward to now since I find myself most disinterested in both the romantic tracks and completely detached from the main characters.

Kachay Pakkay Bachay!

0

To be honest, this article is a result of the discussion that followed after one of my comments in Diyar-e-Dil’s review regarding the child stars & their pakka-pan that gets way more coverage than it’s required in our drama these days. That discussion actually got me thinking about how much we are forced to get annoyed by watching these annoying kids on screen who have no purpose to be there in a drama in the first place. Before saying anything I just want to make it clear that this article by no means is written to defame or belittle all these young actors that we often see in different dramas but it’s actually targeted at the pakka-pan that their characters embody & portray. I do appreciate their acting skills & their charm but the roles that these kids get to play & the dialogues they get to deliver aren’t very impressive & this article is strictly based on their on-screen performances.

Sorry to say, the way the writers use the child stars in our dramas is actually an exploitation of their innocence. I say that because they are made to speak such dialogues which they might not even know the meaning of, but are so mature that they don’t go with their biological age. In so many dramas, kids are made a part of the conversation or if not actively, they are always present in such scenes which are covering some mature topics by having such sort of conversations & that makes me wonder what these kids must be learning in such an environment. I also believe that the writers try to push the fact that kids are ‘innocent’ & in their innocence spree, they can go around saying anything they feel like but to be honest, kids are impressionable & their involvement just doesn’t stop when their scene is over. The kids who tend to be around their mothers when they’re watching such dramas are drawn towards such characters & they actually end up picking up a thing or two because kids tend to connect with those they see on screen who belong to the same age group as theirs.

No matter how cute a boy might be or how pretty a girl must be, most of their characters are annoying to the core & I blame the writers & then the directors for it. I’ve picked a few annoying characters that were played by the child stars & these are those who have left me speechless with their pakka-pan.

Saman of Dusri Biwi:

8

Surprise Surprise! Well no surprises there, this kid is the new peeve in town. Yes, we get it, she’s like all those kids who love to have a sibling younger to them but she takes her fixation to her brother to a whole new level & oh boy! Even though her younger brother is just an infant, I am worried about him because he doesn’t know he has a sister who’s obsessed with him *creeps*. As funny as it gets, there have been a couple of episodes that have ‘only’ revolved around how Saman’s parents are going to fetch a bhai for her & in the end, her aunty in fact her papa’s dusri biwi swooped in to provide her with one. I think when the writer had no idea about how to move the story forward; she tried to use a younger character not worrying an ounce about how annoying she will get for the viewers. The writer thought by using Saman, she will cute her way into our minds but she ended up annoying us beyond our imagination. Yes, the kid playing the role of Saman is pretty but then her character is any drama-watcher’s nightmare.

Sofia of Izteraab:

7

Who remembers this premature aunty? Again, I am only talking about her character because she was the one who not only gave a hard time to her step-mommy, who she was smitten with before she became one, but she also has a credit of going out on a date at the age of 12 years. I must say she has broken the records of all the teenagers out there when it comes to dating. Yes, she was having a hard time because her parents were going through a rough divorce & her step mommy just swooped in out of nowhere, but the way the writer tried to show her rebellion was quite questionable & should’ve been avoided. There were almost 5 – 6 episodes that were dedicated to Queen Sofia & her tantrums & it irritated me like anything!!!

Dua of Dil Ka Kya Rang Karoon:

6

Even though I am not following this drama, I did watch a couple of episodes to know what was going on in this Saturday night special drama & once again, we have a highly spoiled brat Dua who is giving her step mommy a punishment for becoming one. She is in louuu with an aunty who happens to be a patient of her father & then this kid has an audacity to say that her aunty should get married to her father & her step mommy can get married to her aunty’s husband. Awww, shooo cute, remember she’s just a kid who’s out on an innocence spree? Boo Hoo!!! The writer really didn’t know how to instill the idea of a husband/wife swap so she used this masoomiyat ka pitara to do the honours!

Ali of Kabhi Kabhi:

2

He’s the one I’d like to call a batameez bacha very frankly. He had a mother who lost her brains because she was drugging herself & then a step-dad who was just as batameez as him, or slightly more than him so obviously when he had to choose who to follow between these two role model like parents, he chose his step dad because he had an easy access to batameezi. His dialogues were absolutely annoying & so was his character.

Guddu of Mirat ul Uroos:

5

Yes, he played the role of a servant but this boy has been around for so many years & has been a part of so many dramas & sadly, I have never seen him play an age-appropriate, innocent role. I don’t know if it’s his look or what but the drama-makers actually go overboard when they write down his dialogues. Yes, he is a very good actor but when it comes to the characters he plays, he can get annoying a lot of times.

Well now that I have spoken about the kids who have actually annoyed us, there have been some child stars who were often seen in the drama just to complete the picture & didn’t have much to do or say, which I feel is the right way of making the kids a part of the drama because the writers shouldn’t rely on the kids so much to do the talking & for taking the story forward.

Roomi of Shukk:

4

That kid was not only a cutie but was innocent as well. Yes, he also got a little too smitten by his Ehtashaam uncle but then he never had to deliver some over-aged or pakkay dialogues. He was always seen around his mother without having much say in the situations & the writer didn’t rely on Roomi to take the story forward.

Maaz of Aik Pal:

3

I liked how Maaz was always a part of every conversation Noor Fatima had when she was about to die but then the kid on his own didn’t get much coverage & he fitted the picture perfectly where he was always seen in the background & was spoken about as a focal point of his mother’s concern. I liked the way the drama makers used his character to show the love his mother had for him without actually relying on him to portray that. I think Maaz is a perfect example of how kids can be made a part of the team & still have their innocence kept intact.

Sila, Alisha & Ehsaal of Chup Raho:

1

They were a part of the second half of the drama & even though they were a main part of Shiraz & even Rameen’s life, they weren’t quite pakki as the kids mentioned above. Even though they were 3 of them, their scenes never seemed annoying & neither did their characters. I liked the fact that they all got age appropriate dialogues & contributed in a positive way in this otherwise negative drama & oh then it reminds me there was Nayla too, who was capable of speaking but never got a chance to chant a single dialogue throughout the drama & then by the way, the writer relied a lot on her to take the story forward & get back at Numair but then, as far as that masoom kid wasn’t pakki, I was fine with it.

So, this is my list of some pakkay & some kachay bachay. I believe as far as the kids are only used to complete the picture or are meant to be in the background, it’s actually ohkay but to depend on them heavily & to give them a lot of coverage is a wrong trend. Share your thoughts about how you think the drama makers use these young actors & depend on them unnecessarily by taking away their innocence & force them to speak in a way which never appeals to anyone. I really believe the drama-makers & the writers should cut down on the trend of using child stars because it doesn’t do any good to them & the dependency actually showcases the lack of ideas that the writers face while writing down the scripts & situations & oh, please feel free to contribute to the list if you’ve come across any such annoying kids in the dramas!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Kabli Pulao has proved to be a path-breaking drama in the industry as it managed to pick the top spot without having the masala starter pack considered important for any drama to become a hit today. He touched upon how he conceived the story, how it moved forward and he is thankful to the audience who accepted it and made it this big. He also answered the question regarding controversy that raised its head regarding religious point of view. Many people pointed out that in the situation Barbeena was in, her Nikkah with the second husband becomes void after her first husband returns. Therefore, many people were questioning the ending as how Barbeena went with Haji Mushtaq.

Kabli Pulao Writer Zafar Mairaj Responds To Religious Controversy

Zafar Mairaj shared his point of view. He said that there are three individuals in this situation. And yes, Shariah rules will apply if a conflict had arisen and Baraan would have wanted to take Barbeena back. But there was never a fight, Barbeena wanted Haji sahab while Baraan was not there to take her with him and this simplified the situation. This is why he did not go towards the Islamic law as it would apply if there was a conflict.

Kabli Pulao Last Episode – Review

تیرا حوالہ اتنا معتبر ہے باران کہ تیرے سارے قصور معاف

The final episode of Kabli Pulao was the most ideal conclusion to a consistently impressive drama. From its impeccably written poignant scenes to the final frame, each moment was artfully shot and performed. Director Kashif Nisar’s meticulous touch showed in the faultless portrayal of emotions from start to finish. Zafar Mairaj’s beautifully written dialogues completely won me over. The writer skillfully maintained a sense of suspense right till the end. The only character I truly felt for in the end was that of Shamim. But then, Kabli Pulao was essentially Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s story therefore there was meant to be some collateral damage. I would like to add here that Shamim and Baran turned out to be heroes in their own right.

Kabli Pulao came to an end at a time when it had the viewers’ undivided attention. Right till the final episode, the air of unpredictability, kept the viewers in anticipation about the ultimate ending of the story. What impressed me the most about this drama as a whole and these last few episodes, in particular, was the writer’s ability to intelligently shape my perceptions and sentiments towards the characters and their interrelationships.

As a viewer, the constant evolution of dynamics left me uncertain about which characters would ultimately end up together. A few weeks back, Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq were the only likely perfect couple in the drama. However, after watching the previous few episodes, it felt like Barbeena and Baran are the ones who truly deserve to be together. I could not help but wish for Shamim to find her own well-deserved happy ending as well. The uncertainty surrounding the characters and their relationships added to the engagement value, making the resolution all the more satisfying and unexpected.

Kabli Pulao Last Episode – Review

Keeping all this in mind, it is nothing short of a feat that the writer managed to conclude this story in such a way that even though I feel for Shamim after watching this last episode, I can’t help but be truly happy for Haji Sahab and Barbeena. Baran turned out to be an exceptional character who was the perfect embodiment of unconditional love. Haji Mushtaq and Baran’s relationship with each other towards the end was the most unlikely yet the most pleasant one as well.

Other than being a story about self-discovery, and finding and understanding love, Kabli Pulao also had an underline theme highlighting societal pressures and how they shape individual behavior. Haji Mushtaq hid his nikkah for this reason at the beginning of the drama and continued to tell many lies right till the end, all in a desperate bid to evade any form of ‘accountability’ from those around him.

This last episode had so many unforgettable scenes and conversations. Haji Mushtaq and Baran’s scene was one of the most impactful ones. Shamim and Haji Mushtaq’s final scene together was also beautifully enacted. The last scene was everything we hoped for and more. The Kabli Pulao fans can now sleep peacefully knowing that Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena are finally together for good. Throughout their journey, Haji’s insecurities got the best of him because he was always uncertain if Barbeena would ever love him the way she loved Baran. Now with those insecurities out of the way, these two can embark on a new chapter and forge a life together without the shadows of doubt clouding their relationship.

This last episode did not leave anything to the viewers’ imagination. Even Chammo and Ghaffar’s track had a wholesome ending. Haji Mushtaq’s expressions when Chammo told Ghaffar off were the best part of this scene.

Artful Characterizations and Performances

Kabli Pulao’s well-defined, multifaceted, and layered characters coupled with some of the most riveting performances were the defining factors of its success and engagement value. Therefore, I would really like to discuss my thoughts about each one of the characters that stood out in this review.

Haji Mushtaq – Muhammad Ehteshamuddin

As a central figure in the plot, Haji Mushtaq, right from the beginning, earned the respect of the viewers. He stood out more than any other character in the initial few episodes because of his layered personality and his commitment to his relationships. His selfless nature, readiness to make sacrifices, protective instincts, fair treatment, and vulnerabilities made him a truly well-rounded character.

Just like all the other main leads in the drama, Haji Mushtaq went through multiple changes in his journey, with a pivotal milestone being discovering love and happiness. Despite these changes, his core values remained the same. He retained his inherent goodness until the very end, yet he was never portrayed as someone devoid of flaws. These flaws made his character more relatable.

Muhammad Ehteshamuddin made the most of the opportunity presented to him and gave the viewers so many reasons to fall in love with his nuanced yet powerful portrayal of love, sacrifice, and conflict. His interactions with Barbeena, Shamim, and Baran were imbued with a depth that mirrored the intricacies of real-life relationships.

Kabli Pulao Last Episode – Review

Barbeena – Sabeena Farooq

Barbeena immediately became the center of attention from the beginning by taking charge of her life right from the get-go. Interestingly enough, she did so without uttering a single word, which was amazing! She chose to marry Haji Mushtaq, which showed that even though she was doing this for her brother, she was going to do it on her terms and conditions.

With the passage of time, her selfless gestures and genuine thankfulness made her an absolutely adorable character. Her character could easily be termed as a seamless integration of innocence and intellect, as well as strength and vulnerabilities. There were moments when I found myself more emotionally connected to Barbeena than I did to any of the other leading characters.

With her phenomenal acting, Sabeena Farooq ensured that the various layers of Barbeena’s character arcs were highlighted with the attention they truly deserved. She proved that she was the ideal candidate for embodying this character on-screen.

Shamim – Nadia Afgan

Shamim’s character was exceptionally well-written and acted out brilliantly as well. She was one of the many strong female characters in the drama but what set her apart were the contrasting dynamics of her plot. Her unrequited love and unwavering commitment to Haji Mushtaq unfolded as a unique portrayal seldom witnessed in Pakistani dramas. She was shown as an intelligent and perceptive woman, whose emotional struggles were obvious, yet she always made a conscious effort to take the high road.

Shamim’s character was beautifully crafted to capture the essence of emotional vulnerability, emotional intelligence, and, above all, sensitivity. This delicate balance allowed the viewers to empathize with the internal struggles she faced and at the same time made her character endearing. impactful and likable. The chemistry between Nadia Afgan and Muhammad Ehteshamuddin and their raw performances had a significant impact on their track, leaving the viewers fluctuating between different emotions.

Kabli Pulao Last Episode – Review

Baran – Abdullah Farhatullah

Baran was the real surprise in Kabli Pulao. He was ‘supposed’ to be the antagonist and I was actually dreading his comeback but he turned out to be such an exceptional character. His intentions were not clear in the beginning but the way this character was written and translated on-screen I found myself feeling for him instantly.

Abdullah Farhatullah nailed this character like no other. His performance was organic and powerful. Not only was Baran’s characterization a surprise but Abdullah’s performance was an equally pleasant surprise.

Interestingly enough, all of these characters were victims in their own way yet their victimhood never took centre stage in the story. Their strengths always shone out more than their weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Kabli Pulao Last Episode – Review

Noteworthy Supporting Characters and Actors

Kabli Pulao had quite a few noteworthy supporting characters and actors as well. Ayesha definitely took the lead even though her character turned bitter towards the end. She played a pivotal role in the story and I will never forget her love for Haji Mushtaq and how it brought him back.

That scene at her wedding when she finds out the truth and holds on to Barbeena’s hand was also unforgettable. Ayesha was a strong female character in the story which gave us so much to remember. Fajar Khan performed brilliantly throughout. I am looking forward to seeing more of her.

Zubeida and Kulsoom were two of my favorite characters as well because of their relationship and love for Haji Mushtaq. Munazzah Arif played her part really well and I absolutely loved how naturally Farzana Taheem translated her character on-screen. I actually found Rimsha’s character quite entertaining as well. Momina Faiq is another promising new actress whose performance was impressive.

Ghaffar and Shamo’s track was the only aspect of this drama that tested my patience. They got way more screen time than they should have been given. I forwarded many of their scenes and always felt that they were nothing more than a distraction. Although this track did add to the main track and was meaningful as well, it did not deserve as much attention as it got. And most importantly, it was not appealing enough.

Goodbye Kabli Pulao

The emotional resonance of Kabli Pulao overshadowed all other aspects, a testament to the impeccable writing, stellar performances, and flawless execution that breathed life into these sentiments on the screen. Haji Mushtaq, Barbeena, Shamim, and Baran’s complex love story tugged at the heartstrings and also kept us at the edge of our seats. Sometimes, it was difficult to decide whose side you would rather be!

Kabli Pulao’s well-crafted plot kept us guessing as every twist was not just unpredictable but also a delightful combination of savory and sweet. Kabli Pulao was not just a drama; it was an immersive experience, an adventure that unfolded with each carefully crafted episode. For the most part, Kabli Pulao stayed true to its name/title, treating viewers to a delightful blend of flavors that left a memorable impression. It not only celebrated love in so many different ways but also celebrated the Afghan culture and its people.

Kashif Nisar and his team deserve due credit for the flawless execution of the drama which definitely made all the difference. The careful attention to detail in every scene, the expertly crafted cinematography, and the flawless integration of music and sound design all played pivotal roles in intensifying the emotional impact. Kabli Pulao is another shining example of Kashif Nisar and Zafar Mairaj’s combined brilliance. Kabli Pulao’s hauntingly beautiful OST also left a lasting impression.

All the four leading actors in particular tapped into the raw, unfiltered emotions of their characters and made them come alive on-screen. Their performances will be remembered for a long time.

Kabli Pulao Episode 9 – Expression of Love

Kabli Pulao is the only drama at the moment which has not gone off track even once. Not only has the Kabli Pulao team given us the most unforgettable on-screen jodi but through this drama, the writer has redefined the concept of love. Also, it goes without saying that it is always great to watch quality entertainment that breaks stereotypes and does so without preaching. Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s journey has been filled with ups and downs. This recent episode was the most important one because with this episode these two officially recognized each other as husband and wife. Both these characters have been penned down so well that they always manage to surprise you. This was another episode in which not a single scene was out of place. It marked the new beginning of a relationship that has evolved greatly in the past 8 weeks. The performances continue to be beyond impressive and the execution of the drama is always up to the mark.

Barbeena’s Strengths

The one thing that stood out for me more than any other in this episode was Barbeena taking control yet again. I find it extremely interesting the way Barbeena has been taking the first steps in this relationship right from the start. Starting from the nikkah to the consummation of this marriage everything was Barbeena’s decision. This character is the perfect combination of sensitivity, empathy, intelligence, and strength. She has been observing Haji Mushtaq’s sacrifices for her and others around him silently. At the same time, she has been reliving her past. These two things combined together have increased the ‘respect’ she has for Haji Mushtaq and through these circumstances the writer has shown that respect indeed is love in action!

The flashback scenes with Baraan in the previous two episodes showed a different side of Barbeena. The love she felt for and shared with Baraan was completely different from the one she feels for Haji Mushtaq now. The circumstances have changed drastically and these two men are poles apart as well. I must say that Barbeena is anything but a victim but there are times when I feel for this character. She is the perfect representation of how war changes lives tragically almost overnight. She could have lived a much more comfortable and happier life had she not been driven away from her home. However, even in the current circumstances, Barbeena has shown the kind of strength of character that is a rarity in Pakistani dramas. Even though there were so many situations in which the writer could have twisted the situations to make the viewers feel for Barbeena even more he chose not to do so.

Kabli Pulao Episode 9 – Expression of Love

Haji Mushtaq – An Unforgettable Character

Right from the beginning Haji Mushtaq’s character stood out not just as an unconventional leading man but also as a realistic representation of a ‘good man’. Even though he is a wise and resourceful man, the writer has never held back while showing his vulnerabilities. His vulnerabilities and shortcomings make this character more human. At the same time, the writer has made sure that Haji Mushtaq’s positive traits stand out. Just the way Barbeena’s strength shines out more than her other character traits, Haji Mushtaq’s commitment and dedication towards his relationships is one of those traits that supersedes all the others. Right from the beginning, he has done nothing but serve those he loves and he has done so against all odds. Starting from his mothers to his siblings, his commitment to not just protect his family but also to ensure that they are happy is one of those personality traits that has kept his relationship with Barbeena from withering away. Even though this was a commitment that was forced on him he accepted it whole-heartedly nevertheless.

It is also interesting the way these two people who are overflowing with love and dedication are now trying to do whatever they were doing individually before. Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq’s escape from the family home to save Chammo’s marriage was a classic example of how far these two individuals can go to save those they love.

Heartwarming Moments

This episode started off on a bleak note but as the story progressed there were so many heartwarming moments that reflected the special bond which these two exceptional characters shared. The way Barbeena explained to the judge how much Haji Mushtaq had paid to ‘buy’ her was one of the best scenes in this particular episode. I found the fact that she counted all the ‘khwari’ as well to be the most touching aspect of this scene. It was also good to hear that pyar and mohabbat came before izzat this time around. Another scene that won me over was Haji sahab making breakfast for his new bride. A person who could not even think about such a day in his life a few days back was now owning it and living it as if he deserved it. These were the kind of scenes you can go back and watch over and over again.

The Sidetracks

Chammo and Ghaffar’s track had to be the most important side track in this particular episode. Instead of making Chammo understand that Ghaffar was not worth the tears or the trouble, Haji Mushtaq allowed his sister to follow her heart. Also, it is quite clear by now that this family is extremely conservative and will do anything at all to save a marriage because of societal pressure. Chammo ‘loves’ her good-for-nothing husband and the fact that she cannot bear children perhaps makes her put up with a lot that she would not have put up with otherwise. Among all the female characters in the drama Chammo is the only one who is not wise. Ghaffar’s conversation with Qayyum also showed that hitting women was not something that was frowned upon in this family.

Kabli Pulao Episode 9 – Expression of Love

Ayesha’s character depicts the change that the new generation is bringing with it. Her relationship with her husband is completely different. They are not just friends but she clearly dominates. Zubaida’s character has to be one of the many likable side characters in this drama. Her relationship with Haji Mushtaq and her role as the bari bahu has been translated on-screen brilliantly by Munazzah Arif. Shamim’s scenes have been penned down so powerfully and Nadia Afgan has breathed life into them. She is one of the many imperfect but intelligent female characters in the drama. All these characters have their own peculiar personalities and each actor has performed their respective role so well that it is difficult to pick a favorite. I am wondering where the Chammo-Ghaffar track is going because it is getting more negative with every passing episode.

Final Remarks

Kabli Pulao has set the standards really high with exceptional performances, a script that keeps on giving, and direction that never ceases to impress. The preview of the next episode actually made me sad and upset. It would have been nice to see Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq live a few days of their life peacefully but with Baraan’s entry, that might change. However, this will also add another dimension to this story which is not going to be easy to handle but I have faith in Zafar Mairaj. He has handled everything logically and intelligently so far. I am waiting to watch where the story goes from here.

Kabli Pulao Episode 7 – Bittersweet Connections

Kabli Pulao is an exceptional drama that showcases the remarkable talent and dedication of the entire team. It has it all; captivating storytelling, masterful direction, and outstanding performances. The exceptional on-screen chemistry not just between the leading actors but every single actor involved elevates the level of Kabli Pulao like no other. This drama has been flawlessly executed from the start till now and this could not have been possible without the perfect coordination between the cast, crew, and the technical team. The visuals and camera work along with the intelligent use of the beautiful OST make Kabli Pulao a drama that is not just unique but also poignant.

This drama delves into complicated emotions with such depth and sincerity that you cannot help but feel for everyone involved. It also captures human emotions so authentically that you forget you are watching a drama. I am completely hooked to Kabli Pulao and I genuinely feel that this drama is a class apart. Also, I am truly glad that Kabli Pulao is getting the love and attention it deserves from the viewers. This goes to prove that quality content always captures viewers’ attention and the public wants to watch such dramas.

Love’s Unexpected Journey

These past few episodes have been so eventful that I actually could not write a review without finding out first how this new turn in the story culminates. This week Haji sahab and Barbeena won everyone’s approval. Ayesha took the lead and made decisions that her parents could not. In these 3 weeks, Haji sahab and Barbeena both have undergone character development. Haji sahab’s character development was shown in the most subtle yet impactful manner. This is one of those characters that won me over right from the first episode and I knew I was in for an unforgettable ride. I can now say after all these weeks that Kabli Pulao superseded my expectations. In this particular episode, the embarrassment that Haji sahab felt was translated on-screen skillfully by Muhammad Ehteshamuddin. From locking himself in his room to failing to make eye contact Haji sahab’s state of mind was conveyed so well by these situations and gestures. Even though he knew this was going to be a difficult route, this time around Mushtaq made this decision himself. When he entered into nikkah earlier, he was left with no choice. For the first time, he chose to stay with Barbeena even though he was not even sure why he did so.

The guilt he felt later on was conveyed perfectly through dialogues and situations which made his state of mind crystal clear. My favorite scenes from this particular episode were Haji sahab’s trembling hands welcoming Barbeena into his life and his brother giving him his approval through that meaningful gesture. There are few dramas in which every character and scene leaves a lasting impression and Kabli Pulao is one of them. Therefore, it is not easy to choose a favorite scene from an episode but these two really stood out for me.

Kabli Pulao Episode 7 – Bittersweet Connections

Haji sahab and Barbeena’s unique and extraordinary connection does not adhere to traditional norms. The circumstances under which these two entered into a nikkah were anything but typical. Everything that has happened since then has been one surprise after the other. There is so much to fall in love with. Barbeena’s innocence, her humility, authenticity, sincerity empathy, dedication, and top it all her strengths make her an on-screen character that will be remembered for a long time. The way the relationship dynamics between these two characters keep on changing depending on the situation and circumstances has been the most interesting element of this track. The exemplary precision with which Sabeena Farooq has portrayed Barbeena’s character on-screen is a testament to her dedication to her craft.

Kabli Pulao Episode 7 – Bittersweet Connections

The Women in Haji Sahab’s Life

It is amazing how the connection Haji sahab shares with all the women in his life has been the highlight of this drama. Even though he was unmarried for the longest time, there are so many women who hold him dear and look out for him. Ayesha definitely tops the list! Haji sahab’s sister takes second place. Zubaida respects and loves Haji sahab more than his own brother does. Shamim might have made a huge mistake but her feelings for Haji sahab are as genuine as that of any other female I mentioned. And of course, then there is Barbeena, a girl who just entered Haji sahab’s life but is already shaping it up in so many ways. All these wonderfully penned-down female characters and the kind of connection they share with Haji sahab show the strength of females in such a unique manner. And then there is Haji sahab who even on the most important day of his life couldn’t help but notice the sadness on his sister’s face. He went and talked to Ghaffar as soon as he could. Even though some of the things he said were highly inappropriate Haji Mushtaq did not react at all because he knew what was at stake.

Kabli Pulao Episode 7 – Bittersweet Connections

Ayesha’s dialogues were used intelligently in this particular episode to voice what Haji sahab could not say himself. It is true; he has not been able to accept his relationship with Barbeena, something that Ayesha understands better than anyone else. She is an intelligent young girl who arranged this entire function to make it more ‘real’ for her aba ji in the hope that it would be the brand new start he deserves. Ayesha and Haji sahab’s bond was used intelligently by the writer to take the main track in a completely different direction. Ayesha’s connection with her aba ji is wholesome. The confidence given to her by her aba ji is now being used by her to protect him. Her love for Haji Mushtaq shines through in all her gestures and she does everything so unapologetically that there is no room for criticism. It is amazing how the women in Haji sahab’s life are both a source of conflict and resolution at the same time. All these amazing actresses have done complete justice to their respective roles. The credit for that obviously goes to the writer and director as well. The writer gave them characters that have room for performance and the director’s vision made all the difference as well.

Final Remarks

Kabli Pulao is the finest example of perfect storytelling. Everyone involved has given this project their best. This drama explores so many different relationships in such a way that the viewers cannot help but connect to each one of these tracks. Haji sahab and Barbeena obviously take the lead but even the side characters make their presence felt. The director, Kashif Nisar, has yet again captured the nuances and subtleties of human connections on screen effectively. The way the flashback scenes were used to add more clarity to the narrative and show Barbeena’s inner conflict was pure genius. Muhammad Ehteshamuddin’s performance in Kabli Pulao is nothing short of a masterclass in acting. Sabeena Farooq’s riveting performance makes falling in love with Barbeena so much easier. Each one of the supporting actors shines in the role they are playing and it is impossible to pick a favorite performance. You might like a character more than others but each one of the performances is equally impressive.

Please feel free to share your thoughts about this masterpiece.

Kabli Pulao Episode 4 Review – Simplicity Meets Generosity

There are few dramas that win you over instantly, for me, Kabli Pulao has been one such drama. As a reviewer, I have watched each one of its episodes with keen interest and observed every single scene with a critical eye. Even then, I have not been able to find any flaws in the drama. In fact with every passing episode I fall in love with Haji sahab and Barbeena’s unusual and heartwarming story, even more. The union of these two individuals who have nothing in common has been shown on-screen in such a beautiful manner that you believe these two needed each other in their lives. Even though Haji sahab is definitely not being fair to Barbeena but his limitations have been portrayed so convincingly that as a viewer I am always inclined towards understanding his situation instead of judging him for his decisions.

Mohammad Ehteshamuddin and Sabeena Farooq fit like a glove in their respective characters. It is almost as if these characters were ‘tailor-made’ for these actors. They have grasped the essence of their characters and have managed to breathe life into two of the most unusual protagonists we have seen on-screen. I must say that no one can beat Kashif Nisar when it comes to choosing the right cast. There are so many directors and producers who fail to experiment or sometimes fall short when choosing the supporting cast.

Kashif Nisar has proved multiple times that he does not compromise on this particular aspect. Green Entertainment also deserves due credit for exploring new stories and not being afraid of telling stories which do not fit the ‘box’. These dramas have proved, and that too only in a month, that there is an entire world outside the box. I just hope that the dramas airing on the channel continue to provide quality entertainment for viewers who are not interested as well as sick and tired of watching the done-to-death scenarios on-screen.

Kabli Pulao is still giving me Raqeeb Se vibes, not only because of the treatment given to the drama but also because of its characters and main plot. Although, the stories are poles apart this love story is just as unusual as that one and Kabli Pulao also has some of the most likable female characters. Barbeena also has a strong personality and presence despite of her situation just like Sakina, who always had such a profound effect on the viewers.

Barbeena – Simple & Generous

In the past 2 weeks, we watched Barbeena becoming a part of Haji Mushtaq’s family not as his wife but in a completely different capacity. Even though Barbeena’s circumstances are such that she could be easily termed as a ‘bechari’ she is anything but that! Right from the beginning she has made her decisions herself. She chose to marry Haji Mushtaq, even though he clearly showed he was not interested. If anything, this marriage was forced on him and not her. This was the first time that the viewers witnessed Barbeena’s strong decision-making power. And everything that we have been shown after that, has further established this character as a strong one. It takes real strength to take such a decision and stand by it. At the same time, the viewers have witnessed the scars her bitter experiences in Afghanistan have left on her.

Kabli Pulao Episode 4 Review – Simplicity Meets Generosity

Barbeena’s glorious past, before the war destroyed everything, was narrated not just by her but certain hints were dropped when Haji Mushtaq’s family was sharing their thoughts about her. It is interesting how quickly Barbeena adjusted to her new household and did not question the lie Haji sahab told his family, even for a second. You cannot help but fall in love with Barbeena’s gracious personality. Her harsh experiences did not make her bitter but in contrast, they made her realize the importance of peace and love. Barbeena is a giver, who gives without keeping a count. She also gives unconditionally, she is sure that Haji sahab has already given her everything she needed and does not need to do anything more. This aspect of her personality has been shown in such a positive manner that you do not see her as a loyal slave but as a committed and loving friend and companion.

Barbeena is the first Afghani character of its kind in a Pakistani drama. The writer who etched out this character made sure that viewers all around the globe watching Kabli Pulao get a new introduction like no other to the Afghani people. They are shown as loving, generous, and giving individuals whose positivity has not been overshadowed by the atrocities of war. Barbeena also represents the affluent section of the Afghani society that was forced to live the life of refugees after the war.

Haji Mushtaq – Caught in a Whirlwind

Haji Mushtaq’s journey has been the complete opposite of Barbeena’s character development. Even though Barbeena is a refugee, she has had things under control right from the get-go. She knew exactly what she wanted and even now she takes everything in her stride. Haji Mushtaq’s life, on the other hand, has been spiraling out of control starting from the time he met Barbeena. The nikkah was completely unexpected, even though it was a choice but not one that he was very keen on making! Ever since then, everything that he has faced is completely brand new for him. He never wanted to get married and getting married to a young girl who was old enough to be his daughter would have been completely out of the question. He also decided to dedicate his life to religion and did not want to spend all his time with his family. Yet, because of Barbeena, he is now closer to his family than he has ever been before. A man, who lived his life on his terms and conditions and was known for his reputation, had his reputation questioned because he decided to help Barbeena.

Kabli Pulao Episode 4 Review – Simplicity Meets Generosity

All through this, Haji Mushtaq has tried really hard not to be unfair. But he does not have the courage to tell his family the truth. The instant he entered into a nikkah with Barbeena, his first fear was that of being judged by his family members. Even someone of his stature was worried about being questioned for his actions.

I like how this character has a religious and upright strong side but at the same time he is quite capable of lying to cover up for something that might get him into ‘trouble’. It is interesting how this mature character has this child-like innocence as well. Since he was not ready for this nikkah himself and everything happened so fast, his abrupt decisions made perfect sense. However, gradually his family members and especially Shamim have already started questioning Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq’s relationship.

Haji Mushtaq has, so far, protected Barbeena as much as he could have in his capacity. Even though he does not acknowledge her actual status in front of his family members, he has made it clear multiple times that Barbeena will be treated with respect.

Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena – What a Companionship

Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena have come a long way in the past 3 weeks. The way Haji looked at his new bride the first time suggested that he was instantly amazed by that face and particularly those innocent eyes. As he got to know more about Barbeena, he felt he needed to protect her but gradually his feelings for her are changing as he finds himself being attracted to her innocence and beauty. While Haji Mushtaq finds it difficult to accept Barbeena as his wife because of the age difference as well as the fact that he had vowed never to get married, Barbeena has accepted this relationship wholeheartedly. She feels safe around this man and understands that as his wife she is not only there to look after him but also to be a companion. We don’t know yet if Barbeena has anything more than respect for Haji Mushtaq in her heart but it is quite clear that her husband is falling for her more with every passing episode.

Kabli Pulao Episode 4 Review – Simplicity Meets Generosity

It is interesting how a girl who seemingly had nothing to offer to Haji Mushtaq has actually rescued him in more ways than one. He was a man who had never learned to live for himself. When he was a child, he looked after his mother and has been looking after his family all his life. He has never even thought about his own pleasure or happiness. In this manner, Haji and Barbeena have so much in common. Both of them find it easier to sacrifice their happiness for the sake of their loved ones. Also, their family comes before everything else. While Barbeena married Haji to save her brother, Haji took the risk of turning his family against him when he married Barbeena. It is difficult to tell who actually made the bigger sacrifice but the dynamics are pretty fascinating.

Barbeena and Haji sahab’s conversation in this episode regarding what he was going to wear on the wedding was one of my favorites. It depicted Haji sahab’s frame of mind so well and showed how Barbeena wanted him to live a little for himself as well. Both these individuals have a good heart and they want to see each other happy more than anything else. There is so much about this union which is amazing.

Supporting Characters

Kabli Pulao has some of the most well-written supporting characters that have a solid presence. They add to the complexity of the main track since each one of these characters in Haji sahab’s household in particular has a profound connection with him. Shamim stands out because of her history with Haji Mushtaq and also because of the way this powerful character has been written and translated on screen. Haji sahab’s relationship with Barbeena will affect her most in the long run. Her presence also makes for an interesting love triangle in a story that is already complicated enough as it is. Nadia Afgan’s performance makes Shamim an unforgettable supporting character.

Kabli Pulao Episode 4 Review – Simplicity Meets Generosity

My second favorite character has to be Ayesha for obvious reasons! Not only does she have a beautiful relationship with her abba ji but she is also a loving individual who welcomed Barbeena with open arms and is sensitive to her feelings. Unlike many other dramas in which daughters or nieces would feel jealous, Ayesha held Barbeena’s hand a little bit tighter and kept her closer when she found out the truth. Such little but refreshing nuances of these characters make them stand out.

Similarly, the personalities of all the other family members have been presented on-screen in such a way that the family dynamics are easy to understand. Also, most importantly, these dynamics are the reason why there is a conflict in the story. Had these dynamics not been so complicated, it would have been easier for Haji Mushtaq to share the truth with his family members.

Final Remarks

Kabli Pulao is a complete package; it offers everything which a viewer wants to see in a drama. Zafar Mairaj and Kashif Nisar have once again proven that they are the perfect team. I am really happy that Sabeena Farooq got the opportunity to use her command over Pashtu in this drama in such an apt manner. Most importantly, I am genuinely pleased that she was chosen to play such a beautiful character and she made the most of it. Otherwise, she would have been typecast as Haya in all the projects. Also, I truly appreciate the dedication with which she has breathed life into Barbeena. Not only is her performance commendable but she has been extremely comfortable in her own skin without any fancy makeovers. This was such an essential part of Barbeena’s character. Of course, Kashif Nisar deserves credit here too because he has always understood the importance of looks while bringing a character to life on screen.

Mohammad Ehteshamuddin has given many memorable performances in the past as well but Haji Mushtaq is definitely one in a million. He has proved that the term ‘hero’ can be as vast as a writer’s and actor’s imagination. All the actors in supporting roles are equally amazing in their respective roles.

Kabli Pulao Episode 12 Review – Navigating the Unknown

Kabli Pulao continues to consistently surprise and engage. Much like a plate of Kabli Pulao, the dish the drama is named after, each episode has a distinctive and unexpected flavor that keeps its viewers entertained. This drama continues to tantalize its viewers with a blend of suspense, drama, and unexpected twists. The main track’s emotional depth definitely takes precedence over all other elements. In this latest episode, in particular, the viewers were treated to many poignant moments, as the two endearing and affectionate protagonists were pushed into uncharted territory. These characters which the viewers cherish and find relatable, were confronted with circumstances that tested the limits of their love and resilience. These shifts in this track although upsetting have added a layer of vulnerability to the personalities of both Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena and showed another side of their character and relationship. It also makes you wonder where their story will go from here and how these latest developments will impact their relationship.

New Challenges

Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena have made some really difficult decisions through the course of this drama. Both of them have proven so far that they are strong individuals who stand by their decisions and honor them. Haji Mushtaq has lived his life with a remarkable sense of dignity and grace. Also, he never really wanted much for himself in life, he always lived for others. It is nothing short of ironic that now that he has found someone who has altered his life in the most unexpected ways, he lacks the energy and physical strength to embark on this new chapter of his life the way he would have wanted to. Haji Mushtaq has had to constantly adapt and navigate especially after he entered into a Nikkah with Barbeena therefore tonight when he lost his cool and focus, it made perfect sense.

Barbeena’s journey has been an extraordinary one, marked by experiences that have tested her resilience multiple times. She witnessed war, lost family members, and had to restart her life all over again. But she has shown remarkable strength throughout. Tonight, when she broke down it was primarily because she could not see the man she loved hurting. Right from the beginning, just like Haji Mushtaq, Barbeena has also been shown as someone who lives for others. Barbeena derives her purpose and fulfillment from selflessly serving others but at the same time, she holds her integrity and well-being dear.

Every time their relationship has been tested because of the people around them, Barbeena has risen to the occasion more than Haji Mushtaq. Haji Mushtaq has always ‘initially’ given a response that highlighted his insecurities more than any other. These insecurities and vulnerabilities make his character more realistic and add depth to this relationship. Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq continue to grow as individuals as well especially when times are tough.

In this episode the challenge they faced was familiar but it was on a completely different scale. This entire conflict was presented convincingly on screen keeping the emotional element of the track alive, as always. Haji Mushtaq’s insecurities made sense but I could not help but question Barbeena’s approach. She was not just willing to show her face on social media but also felt amused by those messages. Did the writer intend to portray her ‘personal development’ in this episode through these scenes and situations? I am waiting to find out because it appeared as though her choices and behaviors did not align seamlessly with the established development of her character up to this point.

Kabli Pulao Episode 12 Review – Navigating the Unknown

We all know that Barbeena is undeniably innocent in some aspects; however, she has also demonstrated wisdom in numerous other aspects of her life. Therefore, I found it difficult to relate to her naivety with respect to the kind of attention she was getting. Perhaps this was the writer’s method of portraying her limited wisdom due to her age but then we have seen Barbeena choosing Haji Sahab over a much younger individual only because she could see who could actually be well-suited for her given the situation. She also knew that she was not ready to fall in love and start a relationship therefore an older person would be the right match. There have been so many other instances when she made decisions that showed her wisdom but tonight we saw a naïve side of her which was difficult to relate to.

By the end of this episode, Hajra’s documentary encapsulated the profound influence of social media, and how it impacts even those individuals who are not seeking attention. This was the surprise that presented an important message which is the need of the hour. However, what Hajra did was also exploitation therefore, I am not sure if she was the best person to put this message forward. The idea behind this development was definitely right but the way it was executed was not ideal. Does Hajra’s message absolve her of responsibility? This was an important development that could have been handled in a better way. This documentary is going to change a great deal and as the preview of the next episode showed it will lead Haji Mushtaq’s family to him.

What Stood Out

Just like every week, what truly stood out in this episode were those poignant and heart-warming moments that make Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena an unforgettable on-screen couple. Barbeena handing over her first pay to her husband was the best scene from this episode. This symbolized not only her love and commitment but also her unwavering support for their partnership. Also, the way she reacted when she found out this was ‘her’ money was one of the many heartfelt moments in this episode. In this episode, Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s struggles stood out individually as well as partners in this relationship. Muhammad Ehteshamuddin and Sabeena Farooq’s exceptional performances as well as their remarkable on-screen chemistry combine to create a viewing experience that is truly memorable and engaging. They are the heart and soul of Kabli Pulao.

The conversation between Ghaffar and Hakim also stood out because it revealed the unspoken truth about Haji Mushtaq’s character. The hakim spelled out loud how Barbeena’s presence had changed Haji Mushtaq’s life and also spoke the truth which has shaped Haji Mushtaq’s life especially the present events. If it weren’t for the pressure from Ghaffar, Haji Mushtaq, and Barbeena could have lived a comfortable life in their house with the family.

The way Hajra’s documentary covered Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s story also stood out even though I did not completely agree with how Hajra decided to share her views publicly without asking for permission.

The Side Tracks

I honestly feel that the pace of the drama could have been better if the focus stayed on the main track and the other tracks did not get so much screen time. Since Kabli Pulao has more than 30 episodes, I am guessing we will be seeing a lot more of Ghaffar and Shammo’s unappealing track in the upcoming episodes as well. These two played a crucial role in moving Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s track to a different direction but does it really need this much screen time? For instance, Ghaffar’s efforts to bribe Illyas lacked value, these scenes failed to hold my interest in an otherwise interesting episode. Similarly, I don’t find Illyas’ tracks or scenes particularly interesting. I am certain these characters will continue to play an important role in moving the main plot forward but they are not the most engaging element of the drama and disrupt the flow of the main narrative. On the other hand, Ayesha is one of the most likable supporting characters, benefiting from precisely the right amount of screen time that sustains her charm. Shamim is another supporting character that retains its appeal because she has never been given unnecessary screen time.

Final Remarks

Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s story continues to hold my interest because of its uniqueness and unpredictability. The promo for the next episode piqued my curiosity even more. Barbeena and Baran will also meet in the next episode; this will open up a world of endless possibilities. I can’t wait to tune into Kabli Pulao next week.

Kabli Pulao Episode 10 Review – Weaving Magic

Kabli pulao remains a compelling narrative with depth. Haji Sahab and Barbeena’s unexpected encounter has now blossomed into a mutually fulfilling relationship. The most interesting element of Haji Sahab and Barbeena’s track is that these two individuals had never comprehended the depth of their need for one another until they had the opportunity to personally witness the magic that their union so profoundly possesses. Prior to their encounter, they were living separate lives, each unaware of the void the other could fill. However, as fate brought them together, they embarked on a journey of self-discovery and mutual understanding, ultimately unveiling the unexpected magic that their relationship had in store for them.

Haji Sahab and Barbeena – Soulmates

The remarkable acting prowess displayed by Sabeena Farooq and Muhammad Ehteshamuddin has been nothing short of transformative for the narrative. In their roles, the stark contrast in age and outward appearances between the two becomes inconsequential. Their performances are a testament to their undeniable chemistry, compelling you to peer beyond the surface. As their characters evolve within the storyline you are more convinced than ever that these two are soul mates. With every scene they share, their performances deepen the conviction that destiny has brought these two individuals together in a way that defies societal norms and expectations, creating an authentic and powerful portrayal of soulmates.

Kabli Pulao Episode 10 Review – Weaving Magic

Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s dinner with Hajra and Asad was pleasantly overshadowed by Haji Sahab’s open-mindedness and warmth. This unexpected turn of events, in retrospect, seemed almost inevitable given Haji Sahab’s character. Barbeena, despite her best efforts, found it challenging to conceal her astonishment throughout the meeting since there were so many ‘surprises’ in store. Haji Sahab’s refreshing personality and genuine open-mindedness caught his guests off guard.

Haji Sahab’s willingness to accept the difference between them and his ability to empathize with the young couple’s situation immediately put them at ease. This meeting also highlighted the theme of generational contrasts within the drama. It became evident that sometimes, the older generation can surprise the younger one with their progressive attitudes and capacity for acceptance. Haji Sahab’s open-mindedness served as a poignant reminder that preconceived notions and stereotypes should not be hastily applied to individuals, regardless of their age or background.

Favorite Scene

The most heartwarming moment in this particular episode undoubtedly centered around Haji Sahab’s mention of Baraan, accompanied by the heartfelt explanation behind his curiosity. This conversation added another layer of depth to the narrative, revealing the emotional core of these characters. As Haji Sahab opened up about his continued inquiries about Baraan, the reason behind his persistence resonated profoundly. He wasn’t just inquiring about Baraan out of ‘curiosity’; his motivation was driven by a genuine concern for Barbeena’s happiness. This unexpected revelation highlighted the depths of Haji Sahab’s love for his wife, emphasizing that his primary goal was her contentment and well-being.

Barbeena’s response to Haji Sahab’s query was equally touching. Her willingness to move on from her past and embrace her present demonstrated her growth as a character. Her honesty, and the refusal to fabricate her feelings, indicated her respect for their relationship’s foundation of trust and transparency. Haji Mushtaq’s observation about Barbeena’s wisdom while he was talking to his hosts at the dinner table was another interesting addition. It underscored the notion that wisdom in a relationship often transcends age or experience. Barbeena’s emotional intelligence makes their bond even stronger.

Ultimately, the exchange between Haji Sahab and Barbeena served as a beautiful reminder of the essence of a successful marriage. It emphasized that at the core of any meaningful relationship lies the mutual desire to bring happiness to one another. This heartfelt moment highlighted the love and understanding between Haji Sahab and Barbeena, making it one of the best scenes in the episode.

Baraan’s Entry – More Surprises

I have to admit, I wasn’t eagerly anticipating Baraan’s entry. Up until this point, I had this misconception that he was Barbeena’s husband, which had created a sense of apprehension. However, to my surprise, that does not seem to be the case. Also surprisingly enough, I found Baraan’s character to be quite likable.

What struck me most was Baraan’s profound love for Barbeena and his overall persona. With every scene, my feelings towards this character changed and by the end of this episode I no longer saw him as a ‘threat’. On the contrary, he is another character who is deeply entangled in the complex web of emotions, desperately searching for his own happiness.

The fact that Baraan was already aware of Barbeena’s marital status was another surprise. It made the narrative even more engaging and captivating. This unexpected twist sheds light on the complexity of the characters and their relationships, creating a storyline that is anything but predictable. It’s a testament to the depth and intricacy of the drama’s storytelling, keeping viewers thoroughly engaged and eager to see how these characters’ journeys unfold.

Kabli Pulao Episode 10 Review – Weaving Magic

After watching this latest episode, I felt I needed to watch the earlier one in which Barbeena shared the details of her love story with Ayesha and her sisters. Rewatching those scenes actually deepened my empathy for Baraan and made me relate even more to his love for Barbeena. It became increasingly evident that Baraan, much like many of the other characters, is a victim of the circumstances that have shaped his life. His character transcends the typical archetype of being merely a third tier in a love triangle. Instead, he emerges as a multifaceted individual, just like Shamim, who is dealing with the complexities of love, longing, and the unpredictable twists of fate. The parallels between Baraan and Shamim’s characters showcase the depth of storytelling in this drama.

Abdullah Farhatullah’s performance in this episode was yet another one of the many pleasant surprises. He skillfully embodied his character, effectively conveying Baraan’s intelligence, heartbreak, and resilience all in one compelling performance. It’s truly gratifying to watch him make a comeback that will redefine his acting career.

Kabli Pulao is the perfect example of the art of crafting compelling narratives, where all the essential elements of drama converge seamlessly to create a masterpiece. First and foremost, the plot is a testament to meticulous storytelling. It weaves together intricate threads of emotion, conflict, and suspense. The pace of the drama has been perfect throughout, allowing the story to unfold at just the right tempo, revealing secrets and surprises at precisely the right moments. Each character’s journey is thoughtfully constructed, enabling viewers to empathize with their struggles and celebrate their triumphs.

The performances by the cast, led by Sabeena Farooq and Muhammad Ehteshamuddin, are nothing short of exceptional. Their ability to breathe life into their characters is a testament to their talent, creating a genuine emotional connection between the audience and the story. Their chemistry and nuanced portrayals contribute significantly to Kabli Pulao’s success.

The direction and cinematography are equally commendable. The choice of camera angles, lighting, and visual aesthetics adds depth and dimension to the storytelling, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The music and soundtrack, carefully selected to complement the drama’s mood, evoke a range of emotions, highlighting key moments in the narrative.

Final Remarks

Kabli Pualo continues to be a harmonious symphony of writing, acting, direction, and cinematography, orchestrated to perfection. It is a testament to the art of drama-making, where all the elements converge to create an unforgettable and emotionally resonant experience for the audience. This drama shows that drama makers do not need to bank on stereotypes to get the public’s attention.

The preview of the next episode was so intriguing that it is going to be difficult to wait another week to watch it. Haji Sahab and Barbeena are going to be internet sensations perhaps without their consent. I am waiting to find out how this development impacts their journey. It seems as if this will cause more problems for them. Some of the scenes from the OST also suggest that they will end up being business partners as well. I can’t wait to watch what Zafar Mairaj has in store for us next.
