Zhalay Claps Back At Hamza Ali Abbasi For His Comments On Item Number Jawani
Actress Zhalay Sarhadi is one of those actresses who performed an item number. She performed an item number in Yasir Jaswal’s film Jalaibee.
Recently Zhalay appeared in Bol Nights With Ahsan Khan where she talked about her item number. Ahsan asked Zhalay, ‘Have you ever performed an item number?’ On which she responded, “Yes, it became a huge target of criticism everywhere.”
Zhalay recalled Hamza Ali Abbasi’s tweet in which he praised her for not showing her skin like others. He said, “My review on Jalaibee aside, I am tremendously proud of Zahalay Sarhadi for not taking her clothes off in her performance in the film. Zesty Zhalay – An Exclusive Interview
A list model Zhalay Sarhadi would set the ramp ablaze as soon as she would setfoot on the runway! She was the tops! She could be seen sashaying down the runway in beautiful creations of some or the other designers or gracing covers of leading glossies till a few years back – and then she disappeared. Soon we heard Zhalay had tied the knot and before we knew it, good news in the form of a beautiful baby girl was heard. After having stayed away from the limelight for quite a few years, Zhalay recently staged a comeback in showbusiness and is at it once again! Acting!
Pakistan Today caught up with the zany girl to find out what’s up her sleeve this time. Here are excerpts of the interview.
Q: Actor, wife and a mom… how do you do it all?
A: Juggling has always been my forte. I am very clear about the tasks on hand and prioritise things accordingly. I adore being a mum, wife and an actor and manage to divide time between the three successfully. But most importantly since my husband is so supportive of my work, things somehow fall into place beautifully.
Q: How do you manage to stay on top of the game?
A: Like I said, I know my priorities, I’m a hard worker and don’t shirk from going an extra mile… hence I make it work. I’m still a bit short of being top of the game though!
Q: How’s life after marriage and a kid? How does that affect your work?
A: Life is awesome after marriage career-wise… It was a setback after my baby came into our lives but now I have reached a point where I can work and be a good mom at the same time. It takes a little practice and conditioning but ‘where there’s a will there’s a way!
Q: In Pakistan the general conception is that post marriage your career as a celebrity ends. Your take on that!
A: It’s not just a conception but a fact of life and not just inPakistanbut all over the world. Having said that, I feel this is more a cause of concern for film actors rather than ones working on the small screen. From experience I have learned that in fact people relate more with married women with children than with single females. At least I have been very lucky… For me it has been the other way around. My career is going strong even post marriage, so I have no complaints really.
Q: What’s happening on the work front? What’s taking up most of your time these days?
A: Acting has been taking up my time currently. I am doing serials for various channels and I’m enjoying the variety of characters I have and will be portraying in upcoming projects. Some of the projects I am involved in are SISKIAN, KAHI UNKAHI, MADIHA MALIHA and AKS.Also, as my little one is growing up real fast, al the time not spent working is devoted and dedicated to her. I feel blessed.
Q: What are you concentrating on currently – modelling, acting or entrepreneurship?
A: Acting has been and will always be my first love – modelling is restricted to occasional print shoots and commercial films. And through my work, I have also become an entrepreneur.
Q: You were among the A-list models before you tied the knot. And then you disappeared from the fashion scene altogether. Why so?
A: Leaving modelling was a conscious decision on my part and it had nothing to do with my marriage. I did not enjoy the peer pressures of a certain body image and of plastic looks. It was making me highly insecure with my own self and I am a confident person.Thus did not return to ramp modeling after I made a comeback in showbiz.
Q: Do you think our models have the capacity of matching the best in this business elsewhere in the world or even our neighbours India?
A: Well, yes and no! There are a lot of subdivisionings in modelling. To be on the ramp you have to be above 5ft 9”. We have very few models inPakistanwho can meet the criterion. If you move towards the looks department, we are as beautiful as anyone else. So it can safely be said that as far as print media and commercials go we are confident about ourselves. Another area where we lag behind is grooming or more appropriately, the lack of it. Our models only learn the ropes after tons of experience. At the time when we step in this field, we are not taught the art of carrying ourselves.
Q: Do you think our industry or market is big enough to give our models the opportunity to do that?
A: Definitely yes! Our industry is sufficiently big and is steadily widening its horizons. We are getting more and more professionals on board who are helping it prosper. Especially with the launch of Fashion TV inPakistanthe opportunities for people related to the fashion industry have doubled. Modelling is now being recognised as a profession, owing also to the exposure people are getting through the cable television.
Q: Is modelling a lucrative business? What’s the commercial aspect of modelling besides the fame and glamour factor?
A: Modelling does pay but not as well as it should, primarily because we have lesser fashion shows, and secondly because our media does not give models their due respect and hype which is why we have no stars. It’s the same in the showbiz circle. It is growing though, and so I think the monetary aspect would improve too. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and make a plea to all our media kings to please support our artists as we have to compete with the world as a joined force and not an embittered one.
Q: How important is a model in the marketing of a brand?
A: A model plays an important role in the presentation of a brand because we are the ones on screen. We are the link between the clientele and the product. If the link is weak and a model is unimpressive the effect of the product is lost on the people. That is exactly the reason that the larger the brand the more they emphsise on using a top class model to promote the product. Take the example of Lux, Pepsi, Coke, etc. all have notable stars as their ambassadors.
Q: What has been the contribution of models in the success of brands?
A: Lending their personalities, grace and power of conviction have been the models’ contributions in an advertisement campaign or a fashion shoot. Fashion is all about visual play of beauty and expression, with creativity brought in by designers and make-up artists. If all of this works in sync, then there is nothing but success. Most importantly, the product should be up to the mark and deliver whatever it promises.
Q: What in your opinion is the average life of a model/actor?
A: There is no fixed age limit for a model – we have models in their early forties! For an actor the lines are even more hazy.
Q: What do you feel about the latest crop of young actors. Are they serious enough about their work?
A: I feel that the latest crop of actors have entered a world of cut-throat-competition so the going is really tough – they are more dedicated, hard working and focused than our earlier lot!
Q: Your favourite model locally and internationally…
A: Rabia Butt locally; and even though she is now ancient Emaan was regal on the catwalk!

A: Imran Abbas, Zainab Qayoom and Juvaria Abassi.

Zeeshan Ali Reveals Sajna Da Dil Torya Was Made 10 Years Ago
Sajna Da Dil Torya is one of the highest trending songs in Pakistan right now as it became an anthem for Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’s Mustafa and Sharjeena’s heartbreak. The second OST for Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum sung by Zeeshan Ali was a superhit and fans are crooning the song of heartbreak though the show ended a week ago.
Zeeshan Ali is the voice of the song. He is a famous singer in Pakistan. For the Nescafe Basement fans, Zeeshan was the voice of Tere Jeya Hor Disda, a song that won millions of hearts when it came out. Later on, Zeeshan’s wife anchor Irza Khan reminded him about this track which was then approved by Fahad Mustafa. The song was not retouched by Fahad Mustafa’s team on Zeeshan Ali’s request and it was used as it was recorded 10 years back.

Zee5 To Launch 5 New Pakistani Original Series
Many years ago when India and Pakistan were on good terms Indian channel Zee TV started a new Channel by the name of Zee Zindagi that used to air Pakistani dramas on it, which were loved and admired by the audience, Later on, when the tension on border increased where all our artists had to come back to Pakistan, that channel also stopped airing Pakistani stuff .
Now after many years zee5 an online paltform which is a subsidiary of Zee entertainment is all set to become a new home for a number of Pakistani drama including Bin-Roye, Diyar-E-Dil, Baaghi and many others.

1 . Mann Jogi
Mann Jogi is a series worth waiting for. It stars the superstars of our Industry Saba Qamar and Naumaan Ijaz in lead roles. Other cast includes Agha Mustafa Hassan, Uzma Hassan, Gul-e-Rana and others. Mann Jogi is written by Saji Gul and directed by Kashif Nisar.

3. Abdullahpur Ka Devdas
Another exciting series starring Bilal Abbas Khan, Sarah Khan, Naumaan Ijaz, Saveera Nadeem, Anoushay Abbasi, Raza Talish, Ali Ansari, Shahzad Nawaz and many others.

Zee Zindagi, an indian channel with Pakistani content
Zee network is one of the biggest media houses of our neighboring country India. Zee network has many channels, and is now coming up with a new channel named Zee Zindagi in June 2014. The channel will mostly telecast foreign content (means other than indian). For this the channel has also purchased Pakistani content of almost 4000 hours from various Pakistani production houses. The channel will also air content from Turkish, Egypt and Latin American countries.
As per Punit Gonega the chief executive and managing director of channel programs in Urdu will be unique selling feature of this channel. He further revealed that the channel will also produce 12 telefilms with pakistnai production houses where six will be produced in Pakistan and six in India.

Zee Zindagi Pulls Barzakh From YouTube Pakistan
Zee5 and Zee Zindagi are platforms that are working with Pakistani content creators and artists and Pakistani projects are streaming on these platforms. The latest controversial series Barzakh is one of the projects that came on Zee Zindagi. We got to watch Abdullahpur Ka Devdas and Mrs & Mr Shamim on Zindagi before this and both the shows received love and applause. The latest Barzakh however, got a lot of backlash for queer themes.
From the last few days, everyone in the country had something to say about Barzakh and mostly the comments were towards the negative side. People thought that normalizing queerness is not something they want to see on the media while many were concerned about children consuming such content.
Due to the backlash Team Zindagi and Team Barzakh have decided to pull Barzakh off from YouTube Pakistan. They expressed gratitude to all the fans who liked the show. Zee announced that they honour their viewers and do not want to cause alienation. The show will be pulled off YouTube from August 9th. Barzakh finale will air today.

Zee Zindagi In Trouble For Airing Dastaan
When Dastaan went on air the Pakistani viewers more than the Indian ones could somewhat see why this drama might not be a hit amongst the Indian viewers. The news that there have been several complaints lodges against Zee Zindagi for airing this drama to the authorities does not come as a surprise at all. Drama Serial Dastaan aired with the title “Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam” few weeks ago on Zee Zindagi. The drama was edited a great deal to make it look like a tragic love story but that trick did not work. The Indian people still see it as the Pakistani version of the partition which makes India look bad.
While talking to an Indian newspaper Zee Zindagi spokesman said, “The soap could be set against the backdrop of any country that underwent the harsh reality of Partition. The show was telecast as Dastaan in Pakistan and we have made necessary changes to telecast it for the Indian audience. We have followed all broadcast guidelines.”
We don’t know for sure whether the authorities will ask the channel to take the drama off air completely or ask them to edit it even further. The final decision will be taken on May 22nd.
Drama serial Dastaan which was an adaptation of Razia Butt’s novel “Bano” starred people’s favorite stars Fawad Khan and Sanam Baloch. The Play was a huge hit when it aired in Pakistan and was given many awards. It is now considered a classic.
What will be the fate of Dastaan in India? It remains to be seen!
Zee Music Uploads Tere Bin OST On Their YouTube
If there is one drama that is making waves in Pakistan and India, it is definitely Tere Bin. Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi starrer Tere Bin became an instant hit and the chemistry between the leads makes it trend in Pakistan and India. The drama’s OST has played a big part in its success and it was at 25 million views when it got a copyright strike by Zee Music Company.
Zee Music Company claimed that the OST of Tere Bin composed by Shani Arshad is a copy of their song Thukra Ke Mera Pyar. This lead to Geo’s YouTube channel removing the OST and later on some of the episodes that were trending as they contained the same song. Tere Bin also came with a different OST for one episode but things were resolved later and the OST as well as all the episodes were uploaded back. It seemed like the strike was wrong and nothing was copied.
But Zee Music Company has definitely obtained the audio credits for the song as they have uploaded Tere Bin’s OST on their YouTube channel. It is an audio song and they have given credits to singer, composer and lyricist.

Adnan Sami Khan is in the limelight once again in the Pakistani media but not for good reasons. His citizenship of Pakistan was cancelled because of his statement in a letter to Indian official in which he said that he did not want a green passport. In a letter to the Indian officials he wrote,
“I don’t need the green passport anymore. I have found my home in India.”

Zeba Bakhiar Joins the List of Pakistani Filmmakers
We can call 2013, the ‘Golden Year’ for the revival of Pakistani cinema. The highest budgeted movie yet, Main Hoon Shahid Afridi has just been released and other movies like Ishq Khuda and Josh has already been released this Eid and have gotten a fair response from the audiences. Josh has gotten International acclaim in the Toronto film Festival while Ishq Khuda was also launched in Toronto at the PIFF 2013.
The first step to the revival of Pakistani cinema was taken by Shoaib Mansoor who gave us movies like ‘Khuda Ke Liyeah’ and ‘Bol’ which managed to strike a chord with the audiences and a ray of hope was seen for the revival of the Pakistani Industry. Other producers like Humayun Saeed and Hasan Waqas Rana soon followed his foot steps and planned to produce high budget movies. Humayun Saeed’s Main Hoon Shahid Afridi has now released and Hasan Waqas’s Waar is all set to release by the end of this year.
The next big budget producer in town is the veteran actress, Zeba Bakhtiar and her son Azan Sami Khan who will release their first movie soon under their production house, One Motion Productions. We have already seen movies based on religious and social issues, as well as romance. The duo is all set to introduce a new genre in Pakistan, that is of a spy action thriller. The movie which was previously titled Extortionist, is now titled Operation 021 and its teaser has already been released online and is also shown in theatres all over Pakistan.
The story revolves around real life events like the NATO tanks bombing in Afghanistan a few years back. The movie features a stellar cast which includes Shaan, Amna Sheikh, Shamoon Abbasi and Ayub Khoso. It is directed by the Australian director, Summer Nicks who has also been seen recently in Main Hoon Shahid Afridi. It is produced in collaboration with Azad Film which is owned by the music director, Jamshed Mahmood Ansari; popularly known as Jami. The makers have not yet announced a confirmed release date but it is expected to release by the end of this year.
The 19 year old Azan Sami Khan has been able to gain a lot of experience working with his experienced mother and has also learned a lot during the filming of the whole movie. The main reason why Zeba Bakhtiar developed her own production house was to promote new talent like her son. She stated “We are looking at an exciting period — the whole technical side, thought-process, storytelling is changing. This is more about clearing the way for a new creative style that caters to a new generation,” She further added, “We have to move beyond the idea that this is a glamorous profession. We need serious filmmakers who are willing to support so that the new generation of filmmakers can come to the fore”
When Zeba Bakhtiar was asked if this new formula and concept of the movie will be accepted by audiences, she said that no one has yet seriously tried to make a movie belonging to this genre. She further adds “There really is no way of judging what formula works. There have only been a few films of consequence that have been released — right now the scene is open,”
I hope this new genre strikes a chord with the audiences and the experiment done by Zeba Bakhtiar and Azaan Sami Khan is successful with the masses. I remember seeing its teaser recently in the cinema and I must say, I was hooked and hanging on each scene. It was like I am watching the promo of a Hi-Fi Hollywood action movie along the lines of Salt or the Bourne series. The teaser bowled me over; I wonder what would be my reaction to the whole trailer. Zaib Bangash is a brilliant Pakistani singer famously known for singing the traditional Pakhtoon melodies.
Singer Zeb Bangash’s new song is aiming to spread peace between Pakistan & Afghanistan, she joined hands with Shamali Afghan for a beautiful collaboration.
Shamali Afghan and Zeb Bangash’s recently released song’s name is Yaar (Love Letters to Kabul) through which they wish to fix problems between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The song concentrates on beautiful musical connection between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the singers hope that the countries are able to revisit their stance on ongoing humanitarian crises in Kabul.
Zaib Bangash also feels hopeful about the song she said that the connection to the Afghan culture is part of Pakistan’s genetic make-up. She further said that all three Afghan Ustads that were covered in the song have either contributed to or played in Pakistan. Ustad Nashenas has several PTV recordings. Most of Pakistani parents and grandparents would have all his cassettes. Ustad Biltoon has come and performed here so many times.
