Dekh Magar Pyaar Say (دیکھ مگر پیار سے) stars Humaima Malick and Sikander Rizvi

The Dekh Magar Pyar Say slogan, found emblazoned across the back of many a bus and rickshaw, conjures up imagery no less intense than a colour riot. So we were surprised to see a subdued, sepia-toned first look poster of Asad-ul-Haq’s directorial debut of the same name.

But that wasn’t the only surprise in store for us. The poster reveals the lead cast of the film to be none other than Humaima Malick, for whom this will be a second local release, and restaurateur Sikander Rizvi, who will make his acting debut in this film. Rizvi is also known to be acting in Yalghaar, but DMPS is expected to release earlier in August this year.

Dekh Magar Pyaar Say will be featuring a spanking brand new outlook on the traditional romantic movie, one that is filled with twists, turns, surprises and everything in between, all the while debunking established clichés associated with the romance genre,” promises Asad-ul-Haq.

He further added that he had envisioned an avant-garde look for the film, which is “anchored in an uber-stylised contemporary hyper reality”.

Styling and make-up expert Saima Rashid Bargfrede has been roped in as the film’s official styling partner, while Hassan Sheheryar Yasin will be the Creative and Fashion Design Director. Journalist and Karachi, You’re Killing Me! novelist Saba Imtiaz has written the script, and Nicholas D. Knowland, who also shot Jinnah, will be shooting the film.

There’s a movie I watched as a child and it petrified me- it’s funny since it wasn’t even a horror movie. Far from it really, it fell into the category of comedy! But what scared me out of my wits was seeing how this guy gets stuck with the same day over and over again. I get bored very easily so for me, that would certainly be nothing less than a death sentence. Ever notice how our actors have played the same role over and over again? They might be great at it, no complaints there but come on! Do they not read the script before signing up? Or are they simply content being typecast. Whatever the case may be, they are the ones responsible for making us second-guess ourselves!

Here’s a list of some actors who have appeared in similar roles:

Step dad– Our hamdard dawakhana, Adeel Hussain has been raising children that are not his own for quite some time… It began with Mera Naseeb, then there was Mora Piya, Jiya Nahin Jaye, Shukk, Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitaara Hai… Fatherhood comes naturally to him- I just wish he could enjoy time with his own children!

ah

The uninterested (read infidel) lord and master– While this title is one that many actors are competing for, Meekal Zulfiqar is the undisputed winner. From Pani Jaisa Pyar to Shehr-e-Zaat, to Mirat-ul-Uroos to Izteraab, this guy has serious commitment issues.

mz

Dubai Chalo– Agha Ali is keen to leave his mark as the forever frustrated middle class guy who wants to go abroad and earn bags of money. Since obviously, everyone who works outside of Pakistan is a millionaire, duh! It began with Halki Si Khalish, then came Shab-e-Zindagi and I’m seeing hints of it in Bay Emaan Mohabbat too.

aaa

Chillao Mat! Danish Taimoor has potential- he’s good looking and a competent actor. My issue with him- his high pitched screams! His dialogues are painfully loud to the point where he becomes unbearable. I liked him best in Rehaii. But in Saari Bhool Hamari Thi, Sannata, and Maang, he’s causing serious damage to my ear drums.

dt

Roti Shakal (Male)– Ahsan Khan can give any actress stiff competition. But there’s a reason for that- this man can cry! Neeyat, Na Kaho Tum Mere Nahin, Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai, Khoya Khoya Chaand, Kabhi Kabhi… The list is endless.

ak

The sacrificial lamb– Momal Sheikh undoubtedly is way ahead of her game. Kismat ki maari, Momal bechaari has vowed to put others ahead of herself- NO MATTER WHAT!!! She began with Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai, then continued in Kadurat and recently she gave up her son for her husband’s lover in Zaara aur Mehrunnisa.

ms

Beware! Husband/ boyfriend snatcher on the loose– Sania Shamshad is after every man she cannot get. Eversince Aseer Zadi, she’s been on a rampage with Mein Deewani and Izteraab. Seems like she enjoys the chase!

ss

Roti Shakal (Female)– For me, it has to be Sohai Ali Abro. Such a pretty girl but all she gets to do is cry her eyes out. Tanhai, Khoya Khoya Chaand, Rishtey Kuch Adhooray Se and she’s killing it in Bhabi.

sab

If I were a boy… Maya Ali is hands down a tomboy and what’s worse- she is proud of it! From Aunn Zara, to Khoya Khoya Chaand, to Ranjish Hi Sahi– she has ensured she remains constant with her Mein Tumhara Moun Torh Doun Gein.

maa

Dukhyaari Bibi– Ayeza Khan is one of the prettiest faces on television and it’s really sad to see her waste away- Kaala Jadu, Mera Saeein 2, Zard Mausam, Mi Raqsam, and the ultimate tragedy, Adhoori Aurat.

Ayeza_Khan_Mi_raqsam_geotv_24

So these were some of the names I came up with. Are there any more that you can add to the list?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Defense Ministry requested PEMRA to shut down Geo news

In recent turn of events, defense ministry has requested PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority) to start proceedings to shut down Geo News. As per report,  spokesperson of defense ministry Nareeta Farhan has told BBC Urdu that defense minister Khawaja Asif has requested PEMRA to start legal proceedings as per section 32 and 36 of PEMRA ordinance 2002.

As per defense ministry, the channel has aired content against a prestigious institution of country which cannot be taken lightly. The minister further requested that after examining the content provided by them, the license of the channel should be cancelled on priority basis.

Before that interior ministry also released a press statement saying they have concerns the way a channel is accusing an institution in an irresponsible manner without any serious proofs. No example of such criticism can be found in the world the way channel went beyond limits in criticizing the respectable institution.

It all started when Hamid Mir, famous journalist associated with Geo News got injured in firing in Karachi. His brother Aamir Mir accused ISI chief Major Zaheerul Islam for the incident. Geo News, played some talk shows on the same issue which as per defence ministry are against some clauses of PEMRA ordinance 2002 so it has requested to start due proceedings accordingly.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 9 Story Review – Interesting Developments

Tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab had some really important and interesting developments. Shehzad Sheikh’s character was finally introduced today and although this drama keeps you entertained, there is always at least one blooper in every episode. The story is moving forward at a good pace and overall this drama definitely keeps you engaged. The grey characters in Deewar-e-Shab are definitely more interesting. So far this drama shows two completely different tracks focusing on the differences between siblings and how these differences shaped up the life of future generations. Islam was not given enough screen time in this episode although his reaction should have been shown.

Promises & Commitments

Gaiti Ara and Khayyam’s scenes right from the beginning have been more or less the same. Khayyam wants to marry Gaiti Ara so that she can get away from this mohalla and Gaiti Ara continues to be the simple girl who keeps on reminding Khayyam that she loves her family but at the same time will do whatever Khayyam asks her to. Tonight, a lot of the dialogues suggested that Gaiti Ara was also unsure in some ways, she kept on asking Khayyam if he actually will fulfill his promise. Khayyam on the other hand is more certain and the only motivation he has for going forward is the life he wants to live with Gaiti Ara once they are married. Khayyam is the only male member of this family and since he was raised by Sitara Jahan and Nagina therefore Dildar feels insecure.

deewar e shab

Khayyam’s hatred for his family yet again was repeatedly shown through different scenes and dialogues. The way he interacted with Salar also showed that he was quite arrogant and perhaps immature. Shehroze Sabzwari has played his role well. He makes you understand Khayyam’s inner conflict and the reason for his anger. He also comes across as someone who is controlling. Gaiti Ara’s character is quite plain and tonight it seemed like Nagina wants Gaiti Ara to live a normal married life but her dialogues in the previous episode suggested something entirely different. Gaiti Ara can easily become the victim in the upcoming episodes because her character is so docile and she never has any opinion of her own. I am looking forward to finding out where this track leads.

Almas’ Reaction

The way Nagina broke the news of Gaiti and Khayyam’s engagement to Dildar was actually pleasing to watch since she had been waiting for such an opportunity for the longest time. In the previous few episodes Nagina was bitter and unhappy but tonight when she saw how her happiness caused trouble in her khala’s house, she derived satisfaction out of it.

deewar e shab 1

Almas wasn’t just angry because Khayyam was getting married but also because she was tired of earning for the family while Gaiti’s family was going to get her married to the man she loved. The impact of the engagement was covered in detail which suggested that this was an important development. Although Asma Abbas’ makeover makes me laugh at times but she has done complete justice to this role. It is amazing how she can be so graceful in one role and so loud in another role. Zainab Qayum too has nailed her character. Nausheen Shah’s performance has been brilliant throughout and her journey so far has been quite interesting too.

The Other Tracks

Izhaar and Shakra’s family’s greediness is actually quite amusing, they are like Dildar and her family. Whereas, Islam’s family is like that of Sitara Jahan. Maaz was once again shown as a practical person who it seemed was not going to fight for Joya. Joya’s character is a lot like Gaiti Ara, quite plain. The fact that she is completely different from her family was yet again established through different scenes.

Deewar e shab 2

Final Remarks

This was another entertaining episode but I am still wondering where Gaiti Ara’s sister is, why doesn’t anyone ever mentions her? Also, when Islam’s wife and mother left the house Rabbiya was missing! The bud dua Izhaar’s mother gave him will perhaps determine his future life. I am definitely more interested in watching what goes on in Dildar and Sitara’s house. The pace of this drama has been steady, the execution at times can be sloppy but overall it has been interesting enough so far.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 8 Story Review – Entertaining

Tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab was interesting enough. The characters and their stories have grown on me and this drama so far has a steady pace. Sandal’s character is completely missing which is the most odd part of the present day developments. Nagina’s dialogues clearly suggested that Sandal was going to be the one who will take the family business forward yet the viewers haven’t even been formally introduced to this character. Even as a child only one side of Sandal’s personality was over emphasized. Where is Sandal and why is she not being ‘trained’ to be the future ‘star’? All the other characters and their stories are shaping up to be quite interesting even though some of these characters are quite simple but they are interesting nevertheless. The tracks and characters in Sitara Mahal are more interesting than others.

The Love Triangle

Khayyam, Gaiti Ara and Almas’ love triangle it seems will have quite a few tragic twists and turns since Almas has a strong personality with a negative streak. She is not going to let Khayyam and Gaiti get married that easily. Khayyam’s hatred for the family profession was yet again the focus of attention but this time around he was more ‘generous’ while showing his love for Gaiti and was more than willing to marry her as well. Tonight, he seemed more possessive, insecure and in love than selfish. Sarah Khan’s performance tonight was quite decent and Shehroze Sabzwari has given this character the right treatment. Gaiti’s character however sometimes gives the too-good-to-be-true vibes. Once again her ignorance in this episode while she was with her khala and cousins was difficult to relate to. Almas and Khayyam’s scene was confusing since I would expect someone like Khayyam to react more aggressively to such behavior yet he simply said a few belittling sentences and walked away. Will he ultimately fall for Almas? I absolutely love Sarah Elahi’s confidence and the way she owns Almas’ character.

des 8

Nagina’s Story

Nagina is my favorite character since her struggle has been a major part of the story. Nausheen Shah’s impeccable performance makes this character an absolute treat to watch. Even after all these years Nagina was still shown struggling, she was shunned by everyone including Ustad sahib who is usually patient and gentle. Nagina’s only hope is her daughter Sandal (who has not even been introduced yet!), Nagina hopes that she will eventually make a name for herself. Nagina has worked hard all these years and even though she has grown bitter but she continues to do whatever she can in order to make ends meet.

des1 2

Maaz and Joya

Maaz and Joya’s track so far has been covered in a really refreshing manner. The different turns in this track haven’t been covered in a dramatic manner. Maaz’s attitude in particular shows that he is confident that ultimately they will get married. Maaz has been shown as a compassionate, confident and practical young man. On the other hand, Joya is more fearful of what the future might hold for them. Kinza Hashmi and Osama Tahir both are playing their role well.

The Greedy Family

The greediness of Izhar’s family was actually quite amusing! Some of the scenarios however were confusing since the impression given in the previous episode was that they are quite rich but it seems that they are generally just doing better than Islam and are not that rich after all. They are more than willing to put up with anything at all as long as their son gets married in a rich family.

Final Remarks

I enjoyed watching this episode of Deewar-e-Shab, things are getting interesting and there is tangible progress in the story every week. Waiting to see how the story progresses in the upcoming weeks.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 7 Story Review – Interesting

Tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab showed different aspects of the personalities of the new characters. All the characters have still not been introduced yet but the ones which have been introduced, their characters have been well established so far. There are many characters and tracks in this play and with this episode the connection between all these tracks was more clear.

Angry Young Man & Naive Cousin

There was a lot of focus on Khayyam’s character in this episode. He is an angry young man who also comes across as spoiled and thankless since his naani and khala worked so hard to raise him yet he was shown focusing solely on his own escape from a place he was extremely ashamed of, for obvious reasons. While Khayyam’s embarrassment and hate was understandable, watching him taking money from his naani like he deserved it and the way he told everyone off showed that he was quite capable of being selfish. Khayyam clearly likes Gaiti Ara but he can see that her future will be like his mother’s if she doesn’t run away from this place. While Khayyam told everyone else off without any concern for their feelings, he ignored Almas’ advances. Nagina’s comment also suggested that he somehow treated the people living in that house differently.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 7 Story Review - Interesting

So, while on the one hand Khayyam was shown as an angry young man who couldn’t control his temper, on the other hand he was actually quite patient with Almas. Gaiti Ara’s naivety was difficult to relate to since she has enough exposure to know better. Gaiti thinks that she will never be contributing to the ‘family business’ and she is merely learning music to please his nanni. Constant reality checks by Khayyam and those comments by her friends also did not make her think twice. Gaiti is a nice and simple girl who is completely naive. The character doesn’t have a lot to offer right now but I am waiting to see how her story progresses in the upcoming weeks.

The Proposal & The Rejection

This episode showed how Islam and Izhaar were still poles apart just the way they were so many years back. Izhaar rejected the proposal and so did his son (Faiq Khan) who had bigger plans. As a result of this, Joya (weird name!) and Maaz were more disappointed than anyone else. Joya is completely different from her family which is why she is an outcast. Her brother’s love interest is Yusef’s daughter – which makes me wonder why she is older than him? Was Feroza Yusef’s second wife?

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 7 Story Review - Interesting

The Performances

I am going to reserve my judgment about Shehroz Sabzwari’s performance because I want to see more of him to know whether he needed to underplay this character or not. The way he translated this character on screen tonight made it difficult to like or feel for Khayyam. Is Khayyam disturbed and in need of love or just plain selfish? Tonight his selfishness and rude behavior outweighed every other aspect of his personality. Sarah Khan’s make-up tonight was over the top and her performance was quite plain. I really like Sarah Elahi as Almas. Her body language and expressions tonight were on point. She gives you the kind of vibes which go well with the character she is playing. Nausheen Shah continues to give a solid performance.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab was entertaining overall and definitely gave me a reason to look forward to the next episode. This drama will get more interesting once all the characters come into play. There were a few instances tonight when I felt that the dialogues lacked variety but otherwise it was a pretty decent episode.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 6 Story Review – Fast Paced

This was another fast paced episode of Deewar-e-Shab and the most significant development in it was Nagina’s growing resentment and changed personality. Apart from that, few of the characters from the new generation were introduced in this episode. Some of the scenarios were rushed, which is okay, as long as the writer has enough to keep the viewers entertained right till the end or at least for more than 10 weeks. Most of the characters in this play so far are black and white, Nagina is the only dynamic character which is why her track is that part of the story which makes you feel connected. Sitara Jahan and Dildar begum’s personalities and their relationship did not change in all these years. I am not surprised that Sarah Khan is playing Geeti Ara’s role because she has continuously been seen taking up such roles in dramas. Nausheen Shah’s performance continues to be the best part of this play since some of the other performances have been over-dramatic. The young actress playing Geeti Ara’s role was also quite impressive.

Khayyam’s Welcome

The first half of this episode covered in detail how different family members reacted to Khayyam’s arrival and the news of Feroza’s death. Islam’s character was further revealed and his dialogues were beautifully written. He is definitely the most positive character in this play and Kamran Jillani is well-suited for playing this role. Sitara Jahan’s reaction was shown in an overdramatic manner and just like always Dildar begum was there to remind her how Feroza had betrayed her. Nagina’s reaction could have been covered in a better way since she was more excited to meet Khayyam instead of showing the shock she felt knowing that her sister was dead. I am glad the viewers got to hear how Feroza suffered and they were not shown this scenario as a backstory since the way the backstory was covered in the most rushed and unconvincing manner in the previous episode. Gaiti Ara immediately welcomed Khayyam, noticed that he was a sad little boy and decided she was going to do whatever it took to make him happy. Although I absolutely loved the performance of the child star playing Gaiti Ara’s role but I must say that the character so far has too good to be true written all over it. Hopefully, Gaiti Ara will have more to offer in the future.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 6 Story Review - Fast Paced

Sandal on the other hand wanted Khayyam out of the house right away and the fact that her nanni hit her because of him probably made her hate him even more. Sandal therefore is a complete opposite in every single way. There hasn’t been a single scene in which she was shown in a good light. All of this also seems like a repeat of Feroza and Nagina. Khayyam’s confusion and his discomfort was also translated well on screen. He had no idea who these people were and was obviously distant even though he was getting all this love. Another thing which stood out more than any other was his hatred for everything which was musical or which in any way was related to the actual profession of the family he now belonged to. These scenes were meaningful as well as alarming since his mother also left this life because she did not like it, was Khayyam going to cause more problems for Sitara Jahan?

Present Day Story

The second half of this episode covered the present day story and some of the characters from present day were introduced. Sarah Khan is playing the role of Gaiti Ara, who is about to complete her studies. Gaiti Ara is a studious young girl who is still close to her cousin Khayyam (Shehroze Sabzwari). Khayyam seemed like an angry young man who hated the family profession more than ever. Nagina changed the most in all these years. After working hard and compromising on roles, she had still achieved nothing. She blamed Feroza more than ever and her dialogues about Khayyam also suggested that she didn’t think highly of him. While Dildar begum’s granddaughter took the family business forward and earned well for them, things in Sitara Mahal were quite different. Sitara Jahan was still finding it hard to make ends meet but was unwilling to compromise on her rules and integrity.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 6 Story Review - Fast Paced

Kinza Hasmi, Osama Tahir and Anmol Baloch were among some of the actors from the new generation which were introduced in this episode. Quite surprisingly Islam and Izhaar’s children are engaged. Islam mentioned that there was a huge class difference between them but his wife was more than eager to get the children married.

These characters and their stories were covered for a short duration therefore right now it is too early to say anything about them. I am waiting to find out more about them but definitely not looking forward to Khayyam’s father making an appearance since Raja Haider’s performance last week was extremely disappointing.

Final Remarks

Overall, this was an entertaining episode with the story moving forward considerably. Although Deewar-e-Shab is a decent play but the over-dramatic performances sometimes undermine the impact of certain important developments. I am however looking forward to the next episode and waiting to see what the Deewar-e-Shab team has in store for us next.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 5 Story Review – New Beginnings

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 5 Story Review - New BeginningsWith this recent episode the story moved forward quite a bit and overall tonight’s episode was quite interesting. Nagina’s will to go on and her decision to choose life over death revealed a stronger side of her character. The relationships between all the characters were further established in this episode. Sitara Jahan started questioning her sister’s behavior for a change and Dildar begum felt she was in a better position now therefore she started revealing her true colors. Tonight’s episode yet again gave me Aangan vibes; Feroza’s end, her son and especially the way this play has been directed. Having said that, so far this play is relatively more engaging and hopefully the writer’s grip on the story will continue to be strong. The screenplay however can be dodgy at times, the narration in the background and the way in which some of the scenes have been put together disrupts the overall flow of the story. Nagina’s character continues to be the most appealing aspect of this play.

Latest Developments

Tonight’s episode opened with the news of Faiz Ali’s death and thankfully the mourning period was not given a lot of screen time. Mohsin Abbas Haider’s impactful performance left a lasting impression. Faiz Ali is going to be missed! He made the viewers believe in Faiz Ali’s love for Nagina which is why feeling her loss was easy.

Dildar begum’s character so far is one-dimensional, she is the evil sister who can’t see Sitara Jahan happy but it was good to see Sitara Jahan noticing this negative streak in her for a change. Sitara Jahan is simple and has a good heart. Her reactions are usually subtle and she doesn’t share much with people around her. She is also quick to move on. The most refreshing element of this episode was watching Sitara Jahan stand by her daughter and granddaughters like a rock. The warmth in this house is completely opposite to the negativity in the other one. Even though Sitara was shaken after Feroza eloped but she too has found her happiness in Gaiti and Sandal. I found the difference in the personalities of the these young girls stereotypical since we have seen such sisters with opposite personalities in so many dramas. I hope that their relationship will not be like that of Dildar and Sitara. Gaiti it seems is a lot like Feroza and Sandal is just as careless as Nagina was when she was young.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 5 Story Review - New Beginnings

Nagina has come a long way. She is no longer the careless young lady who found it impossible to do the simplest things. Watching her grow as a person has been the best part of all these episodes. Nausheen Shah has performed exceptionally well and the way she has translated this character on screen is one of the main reasons why it continues to be appealing. Shaama’s loyalty and love for this family is another heart-warming element of this house. Even Ustaad Faraghat’s scene with Gaiti tonight was really sweet. Few of the scenes also showed how people respected Sitara and her family.

Feroza’s track ended tonight and I must say that instead of showing this particular track in such a hurried manner, it would have been better if the information came from a third person. Also, the actors involved (the husband and the mother-in-law) gave average performances which made this entire scenario look staged.

Izhar and Islam’s track was the same except for the fact that Islam was the one who brought Feroza’s son to Sitara. I have a feeling that Izhar’s daughter might have a bigger role to play in the story since she has been getting so much screen time.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 5 Story Review - New Beginnings

Final Remarks

Deewar-e-Shab’s story it seems is going to be quite detailed, it remains to be seen if the makers of this drama will be able to avoid the mistakes the director, writer and the producer of Aangan made. This episode was decent enough, the dialogues were well written and the leading actors gave solid performances. Looking forward to the next episode.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 14 Story Review – Fast-Paced & Interesting

This was the best episode of Deewar-e-Shab so far. With this episode, the journeys of some of the central characters moved forward in a different direction. The pace of this drama is perfect and I have to say that it is only getting better with every passing episode. Salar’s entry and his relationship with Gaiti Ara was the best part of this episode. The variety of tracks and the well-etched-out characters keep this drama entertaining throughout. Sitara Jahan’s haveli continues to be the main attraction.

Enter Salar

Salar’s entry in Sitara Jahan’s haveli and Gaiti Ara’s life has changed a great deal for everyone. He gives Sitara Jahan and her family the respect which they have not enjoyed in a long time. Gaiti Ara and Salar’s interactions were a treat to watch. The way Gaiti Ara warmed up to him and the manner in which he reacted to the respect and love he received from Sitara Jahan made his character more likable than ever. Right from the first scene, Salar always seemed like a positive person who had been through a lot in life but unlike Khayyam he did not turn bitter. There is a mystery surrounding this character and I can’t wait to find out what his backstory is. Shehzad Sheikh has been absolutely remarkable as Salar. He nailed every single expression in this episode and he shares definite on-screen chemistry will all his co-stars. He has done exceptionally well in translating Salar’s genuine nature on screen.

Deewar e Shab 1

Salar’s remarks about the mohalla Gaiti grew up in and never wants to leave, left her in awe of him. Gaiti spent the longest time with Khayyam who was a completely different person. Their scenes together were heart-warming and refreshing. Salar liked Gaiti Ara right from the time he first saw her and now Gaiti Ara too has developed a special liking for him. This was something her mother picked up too from her expressions. Sarah Khan is quite likable in this role as well, she plays these simple roles well and together Shehzad Sheikh and Sarah Khan make a good on-screen couple.

Family Wars

In this episode too the competition and the difference between Sitara/Dildar and Izhaar/Islam’s families was further highlighted. Nagina’s internal conflict and her future plans for Sandal showed that even though she has been through a lot but she was still a strong woman. Nagina’s vulnerabilities make her a more relatable character. Nausheen Shah makes every single scene count, her performance has been exceptional and it is because of her that Nagina’s struggle is so easy to connect to. Bushra Ansari too has played her part really well. Sitara Jahan is elegant and a kind human being who is also extremely forgiving.

Deewar e Shab1 2

Dildar begum continued to do what she does best and even though Nagina pretended as if she didn’t care but the fact is that most often Dildar begum is the one who pressurizes Nagina into making certain decisions. Nagina however always ends up deriving strength from all the negativity she gets from Dildar. Asma Abbas has once again proven what a versatile actress she is. Her entire get-up and acting has been great. Zainab Qayyum makes me laugh every time, her performance is so effortless. I especially liked how she cursed Shama when she refused to take the sadqa money from her. Tara Mahmood has also acted superbly and Shama’s character too is extremely likable. Sarah Elahi is brilliant as Almas too, she has a screen presence and her acting has been solid. Kinza Hashmi is the only actress whose potential has not been exploited to the maximum in this drama, at least so far that is the case. Islam and Maaz are a lot like Sitara and Gaiti Ara, they are sensible but good people who do not compromise on their principles.

Khayyam’s track took a turn which I was not expecting it to take but I like how the writer has covered his journey. Although he is selfish but his character is easy to connect to since you understand his insecurities and complexes. He is trying to find a new identity and a new life. He might also have found a mentor. I am also interested in finding out how his track unravels in the upcoming episode. Shehroze Sabzwari has done complete justice to his character and has not disappointed.

Deewar e Shab 2

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Deewar-e-Shab was thoroughly entertaining. When this drama started, the makeovers and the overall feel of this play did not impress me much but it is turning out to be a really interesting drama which keeps me hooked and looking forward to more.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 13 Story Review – Interesting Developments

This was another entertaining episode of Deewar-e-Shab which covered all the latest developments in a simple manner. Salar made his way to Sitara Mahal, Sandal started her journey as a professional dancer and Khayyam’s ‘plan’ did not go as well as he had expected it to go. There was no significant developments in Maaz and Joya’s track in this episode either. Faiq Khan continues to be quite amusing as Salman Izhar and it is because of his performance that this character does not come across as annoying. Sitara Jahan and Salar’s meeting was the highlight of this episode since it had a certain warmth about it.

Sitara Mahal

This recent episode of Deewar-e-Shab showed how all the characters in Sitara Mahal were once again focusing on whatever they wanted to do in life. It is good to see all these people moving on but at the same time they talk about whatever they have gone through which makes perfect sense. Nagina’s struggle continues till date but it seems like Salar and Sandal will be the one making a difference in the lives of people living in Sitara Mahal. Salar’s ‘interest’ in Gaiti Ara and the way he made his way inside Sitara Mahal was one of the most interesting developments since this meant a big change in the dynamics.

Deewar e Shab1 1

Gaiti Ara has obviously not forgotten Khayyam but she has also not been shown thinking about him all the time. Gaiti Ara has decided to concentrate on her studies while Sandal wants to make a big name for her family. Gaiti Ara’s character is quite plain and Sarah Khan’s make-up has been over the top right from the beginning. She looks pretty attractive but most of the time her make-up doesn’t go well with the situations she is in. On the other hand, Sandal, who is actually the loud and dramatic one wears awful make-up and there is nothing ‘glamorous’ about her appearance. Sarah Khan has played her role well, she has done whatever was required but Hira Soomro so far has failed to impress. Hira’s acting in some scenes is good while in others she doesn’t even give the right expressions.

Khayyam’s Track

The jewelry Khayyam stole was stolen and surprisingly enough he decided to go to the police! Apart from his selfishness, Khayyam’s immaturity is another important aspect of his personality which has been highlighted repeatedly. Khayyam thought about Gaiti Ara when he found out that her bangles too were in the jewelry he stole which basically showed how twisted he was! He hasn’t thought about how heartbroken she must be because he left but he was concerned that he took away her most precious gift. Even though Khayyam is a seriously twisted character but I find his journey interesting. He might eventually turn to his father for help and end up working for him. Like every other track in this drama, this one too can go in different directions.

Deewar e shab2

The Other Tracks

Salman and his family were shown dreaming of moving to their new house in this episode. They are so foolish that they didn’t for once think that Zubia might not allow them to live in her house. Sometimes I wonder how Izhaar got this far considering he plays along with everything his family assures him of even though at times it makes very little sense. Amna Wajahat’s acting has been so unimpressive throughout and Kinza Hashmi so far plays a character which doesn’t have a lot to offer. Although Maaz’s character has been written well but somehow I don’t find myself rooting for him.

Final Remarks

This episode of Deewar-e-Shab was interesting, this is turning out to be one of those dramas which keep your interest alive. The journeys of all the characters can have many possible outcomes therefore I am looking forward to watching what the upcoming episodes have to offer.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 12 Story Review – Going Strong

Deewar-e-Shab continues to be an entertaining play and this time around the overall flow of the story was quite impressive as well. Few of the characters in particular are the most appealing aspect of this drama but the journeys of most of the characters hold your interest while they keep you entertained. The pace of this drama has been quite steady. Khayyam and his father’s meeting in this episode was one of the most important developments. Apart from this, it was good to see that the writer did not focus too much on the sense of loss the family felt after Khayyam’s betrayal. Nagina’s character never disappoints and Nausheen Shah’s performance makes it even more likable. While her mother forgives easily and is really simple, Nagina has held on to the past grudges and still wants to do whatever she can in order to prove herself. The fact that she is not perfect but she is a fighter makes her character easy to connect to. On the other hand, Izhar’s family is amusing. I haven’t warmed up to Joya and Maaz’s track just yet.

The Aftermath

While everyone’s reactions were covered realistically after Khayyam left, the writer also showed how Gaiti Ara was still hoping that Khayyam will come back and Sitara Jahan was more than willing to forgive him. Nagina’s reaction was more relatable. Gaiti Ara is like her naani, she is too simple and she expects the best from people even when they show their worst side. Sandal got more screen time tonight and it seems like she has her mother’s fighting spirit but she is not as dedicated or hard working as her mother. When Nagina told her khala that she wanted a bright future for her daughters, she obviously meant that Sandal will get education and then she won’t have to do what her mother did all her life. This dream too came to an end when Sandal announced that she had failed and she no longer wanted to study.

Deewar e Shab2

It has been one dead end after the other for Nagina in particular yet so far she continues to be strong. Almas’ reaction was not shown properly since she was madly in love with Khayyam yet the viewers were not shown how she actually felt about the recent developments. Almas and her family have played a major role in bringing about the biggest changes in the personalities of the people living in Sitara Mahal. Khayyam forgot his degrees but it seems like he will find a future with his father. Raja Haider’s performance in this episode was right on point unlike his first appearance in the drama. Shehroz Sabzwari has done complete justice to his character. Khayyam is not a likable person but it’s not difficult to understand his distant and selfish nature. Gaiti’s character is too plain and Sarah Khan’s make-up continues to be over the top. Asma Abbas is extremely convincing in this role, it is amazing how she can play all these different characters and have such a strong grip on all of them.

The Other Tracks

Izhaar’s family, their attempts to show some ‘class’, their scenes in general give the viewers some light hearted moments. Faiq Khan has played his role really well, his scenes are amusing and his confidence gives him a definite screen presence. Joya is the only reasonable person in the house but somehow her character isn’t too appealing. Kinza Hashmi has definitely played much better roles in her career. After finding out what Maaz’s mother wanted, Joya decided to ignore Maaz and this time around Maaz was the one who wanted her attention. This track is not the least bit interesting but I am hoping that it will get better in the upcoming episodes. We also found out today that Zubia is not Yusef’s daughter, this was definitely an important revelation.

Deewar e Shab1

Final Remarks

The pace of this show and the variety it offers makes it an entertaining play. The story is unpredictable and there are so many possible outcomes to every situation. Shehzad Sheikh and Sarah Khan will finally have their first scene together in the upcoming episode, looking forward to that. Shehzad Sheikh’s character is intriguing, I am waiting to know more about Salar.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 10 – 11 Story Review – The Betrayal

These two episodes covered some of the most important developments. Episode 10 was more interesting and engaging than the latest episode. This drama has a lot of characters, many tracks and there are times when you feel that the writer has not been able to do justice to all of them. Having said that, there are enough tracks and characters to keep you entertained. All these characters and their stories are interesting but the screenplay isn’t really impressive. In this latest episode, I was hoping to see more of Gaiti Ara than the other families but this episode focused on almost all the characters. Sandal finally made an appearance in this episode and although the director introduced her character in the most inquisitive way possible but Sandal it seems has not changed at all and Hira Soomro’s performance was strictly okay. Almas’ reaction was not shown in this latest episode which was definitely a big disappointment since she was the one who had the last conversation with Khayyam which convinced him that he needed to run away. And of course also because, she loved Khayyam and his running away from home would affect her just as much as it affected Gaiti.

Deewar e Shab

Khayyam’s Inner Conflict

I must say that Khayyam’s inner conflict and the reasons why he finally decided to run away was shown extremely convincingly. Most of us were expecting either Gaiti or Almas to elope with Khayyam but in the end Khayyam made a decision which was truly shocking. This was an interesting and unexpected twist in the story which was covered really well. Right from the start Khayyam’s hatred for the place which had been his home and the people who had raised him was highlighted more than anything else. Even then he wanted to marry Gaiti because he believed that they could start a new life away from this place but eventually he realized that if he got married to someone who belonged to this family, this area then he will never be able to break free from his past. As a result of all this, he decided to run away so that he could start a new life.

Deewar e Shab 1

The fact that Khayyam took all the jewelry with him went to show how selfish he was – a personality trait which had been well established in the past few weeks. He never hesitated asking his nanni for money in the past too but didn’t give her credit either. He also didn’t have any respect for her naani or khala who had raised and educated him. Khayyam’s characterization and Shehroz Sabzwari’s performance was the most interesting part of these two episodes.

The Journeys

Apart from Khayyam, Nagina is the reason why I tune into this show. Nausheen Shah is absolutely phenomenal as the ‘average’ member of an otherwise talented family who has worked hard to keep it all together. Nausheen Shah’s performance is the reason why you can’t help but feel every little thing Nagina goes through – she makes Nagina’s struggles and her strengths come alive on screen. What makes Nagina’s character more appealing is the fact that she is not seedhi sadhi, she is quite capable of being mean, which makes her character human.

Izhar and Islam’s families just like many other characters of this show have remained the same throughout just like Sitara and Dildar’s families. Izhar’s family is amusing – they are the perfect representation of people who get rich but don’t have class. Saleem Mairaj’s performance has been on point but Shaheen Khan’s dialogue delivery yet again leaves a lot to be desired, why does she shout in most of the dramas?

Deewar e Shab 2

Gaiti Ara’s character is quite plain and Sarah Khan’s make-up especially looked quite odd in the scenes covering the aftermath of the betrayal by Khayyam. Sarah Khan looked beautiful in episode 10 and her overall look went well with what her character was going through. She is convincing as the innocent Gaiti Ara but the character itself doesn’t have a lot to offer. Sarah Elahi on the other hand has been giving a really solid performance and Almas’ character is more appealing even though she is not a ‘nice girl’.

New Characters

Salar’s character didn’t get a lot of screen time but his scenes were interesting, they piqued my curiosity since his dialogues suggested that he had been through a lot too. Salar seems like an intelligent young man who has an approach towards life which is completely different from that of Khayyam’s. Sandal’s character was finally introduced in this latest episode and apparently she has not changed at all – she is like the female version of Khayyam. Hira Soomro’s performance wasn’t impressive in this episode and I must say that her character should have been introduced before because it wasn’t really worth the wait.

Deewar e Shab 3

Final Remarks

Deewar-e-Shab is turning out to be an entertaining play. Even though, it has a lot of characters and the screenplay isn’t perfect but some of the characters and the script overall is interesting. Some of the actors have played their roles really well and few of the not-so-nice characters make this drama even more appealing. The story so far has been unpredictable and the fast pace of the drama makes it more enjoyable. The preview of the next episode was very exciting – looking forward to it already.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 1 to 4 – Story Review

Genre: Period drama
Based on: Deewar-e-Shab by Aliya Bukhari
Written by: Aliya Bukhari
Directed by: Iqbal Hussain
Produced by: MD Productions
Schedule: Every Saturday 8pm on HUM

This drama comes with a big warning, it is yet another period drama by HUM after Aangan and this one too has the same filmy feel to it. The actual story will revolve around the future generations and right now the viewers are getting to see what would be the backstory of these characters. Deewar-e-Shab so far is the story of relationships and deceit with a different setting. The first two episodes did not work for me at all but with episode 3 and 4 the story started taking shape. Some of the scenarios have been quite filmy and fairytale like. Nagina (Nausheen Shah) and Faiz Ali’s (Mohsin Abbas Haider) track piqued my interest therefore here I am reviewing a drama which I am hoping will not disappoint the way Aangan did. So far, the story is all over the place and the side tracks keep you guessing.

The Cast & Characters

Bushra Ansari (Sitara Jahan) plays the role of the head of the family which consists of two daughters Nagina (Nausheen Shah) and Feroza (Zara Noor Abbas). Nagina is the careless one and Feroza is the perfect daughter Sitara Jahan has invested in, so that she can play a more active role in the ‘family business’. Although Feroza is essentially someone who dances to earn a living but she is highly educated and well-mannered. Zara Noor Abbas’ portrayal was like Sonya Hussyn’s in drama serial Aangan – filmy to the core! Both the actresses clearly were asked to take major inspiration from Ashwarya Rai’s character in Devdas. The confidence with which Zara Noor Abbas faces the camera is impressive but why do we have to copy actresses from across the border? I am certain they could have pulled this off without ‘copying’ so blatantly; the sets, looks and the performance. Feroza runs away from home, just like Sonya’s character from Aangan, breaking her mother’s heart and trust.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 1 to 4 - Story Review

Nagina’s role after Feroza runs away has been the most pleasant aspect of all the developments so far. Nagina tries her best to look after her mother and also accepts small roles in films to help her mother financially. Nagina ends up getting married to Faiz Ali, a man she never loved, just because her mother is too scared of losing her as well. I absolutely loved the episode covering Nagina and Faiz Ali’s bond, it was the highlight of this drama, so far. The way Nagina falls in love with Faiz Ali and the manner in which he shows her love was fabulous. I was hoping to see more of Mohsin Abbas Haider but found out later that he is only playing a cameo in the drama. Nausheen Shah’s nuanced performance has stood out more than any other till now.

Dildar Begum (Asma Abbas) is Sitara Jahan’s sister who is constantly shown stabbing her sister in the back. Sitara Jahan has no idea that her sister is so jealous of her. Asma Abbas tends to go overboard whenever she is playing a negative character and in this drama too she is giving me those evil vibes which you get from such characters in fairytales! The overall get-up of both the sisters is as over the top as it gets. Bushra Ansari has carried her character with grace but her overall appearance doesn’t go well with how graceful her character is. I am wondering if Dildar begum had something to do with the accident.

Deewar-e-Shab Episode 1 to 4 - Story Review

Syed Muhammad Ahmed plays the role of Ustaad Faraghat Baig who has helped Sitara Jahan bring up the girls and run the business. Unlike Sitara, he can see that Dildar begum is upto no good but has little say since Sitara ultimately does whatever she wants. Syed Muhammad Ahmed is a brilliant actor and he fits this role well but the wig on his head is nothing but a distraction.

The side track involving Izhaar (Saleem Miraj), Shakra (Shaheen Khan) and others so far is focusing on one thing more than any other which is Izhaar’s income. I am waiting to find out where this track ultimately leads and how it will be connected to the main track.

Final Remarks

Deewar-e-Shab’s actual story hasn’t really started therefore I am waiting to see what this drama has to offer in the upcoming weeks. Right now, I am more interested in Nagina’s track than any other. We will find out tonight if Faiz Ali will survive the accident or not and if he doesn’t, how will Nagina raise her daughters alone? It is highly likely that he will die and that is when this family will be in deep waters.

Deewana Review – Daring To Be Different

“These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triump die, like fire and powder
Which, as they kiss, consume”
― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

As the drama Deewana ended it reminded me of these lines from Shakespeare’s magnum opus “Romeo and Juliet”. Now to a number of people this drama may appear childish and immature to run on television, but again a drama is created to take our minds to another world where one can find characters evolving, growing up in the eyes of the audience. Deewana was a fairytale since the beginning, a fairytale which dared to be different from the rest of the dramas that are currently on air. Why I choose to write about it was because it evoked my inner love for theater, art and drama which I had unfortunately compromised with given storylines we have today on screen. Deewana dared to be different, unique in its own way. It’s a cliché love story, but the execution of such idea especially in the Pakistani/Muslim culture is absolutely worth appraisal.

To give a brief overview Deewana was a story of a supernatural entity falling in love with a mere human. The story revolves around both of them, how they become friends and how they fall in love despite odds. Deewana is inspired by an Irish novel “If you could see me now” by Cecelia Ahern. The story of Deewana is just a touch of inspiration from the novel. Few of the episodes of the drama were reviewed by Miss Zahra Mirza, who is of course the best when it comes to reviewing dramas.

Though this concept sounds very different, it is the execution that matters. The best thing about this play was that how the writers managed to play around with the concept of Jinn and not going too overboard. They managed to create a fairytale, the concept of jinn is not alien in our society at least; after all whatever bad happens we blame jinn doing it. This story gives you a view point of jinn and his people and what they think about humans. Though it was all fiction, the writer did manage to play everything safe and not going too overboard with this concept.

Now audience who adhered to screen just for the sake of Deewana like me, were expecting a nice ending but here the writers reminded us that no Romeo ever united with Juliet which was also unique for such a story. Though Falak (Jinn) left everything for Mehru, yet they couldn’t unite, maybe because they were never made out of the same element i.e. earth and fire. Even when Falak sacrificed his own being and transformed himself just for Mehru, fate had something else restored for him. For me, the ending of this drama was perfect according to the theme. But as I mentioned this playground was new for the writers, plot holes did exist in Deewana, for better or worse these could be ignored as the drama has already concluded.

For a drama to excel, story, acting and direction play a very important role. I must say Shehroz Sabzwari stole the show in Deewana, he was very convincing as a jinn trying to fit in. Every actor did a commendable job in this drama even Mehru’s father who uttered just a few sentences in the whole 42 episodes. What the drama did lack however, was a good makeup artist, as I said it was a new field to play with the fantasy characters, where we had evil entities and spiritual, I just wished that the makeup artists would have brought their creative side to the audience by using their imagination in terms of makeup. The animation could’ve been better yet I am hopeful. The story was slow paced that I understand, maybe, was for the sake of TRPs extended it up to 42 episodes which was torturous by the way.

Being a fan of soaps and seasons of Hollywood I always wished we could play with our imaginations a bit more, Deewana actually made my wish a reality. It’s one of the first steps (also important to mention Sanam Saeed’s drama adapted from “The God of small things” by Arundhati Roy) and very good one. This drama was different from the rest of the lot because it took us away into the fairytale land which we all dreamt about in our childhood; it dared to bring a theatrical presence to it. Even at times it was not successful yet it tried. At least someone is bringing about a change in dramas from the same old monotonous topics of divorce, infidelity, two sisters crushing over the same guy, guy marrying twice for the sake of child, a very small misunderstanding stretched over for 20-22 weeks! Anyhow I applaud the team of Deewana for daring to be different and standing out; not playing in the safety comfort zone. This maybe an under-rated drama but it did had an element of Shakespearean tragedy to it.

P.S: I am a huge fan of classic literature, so if I make comparisons that offend you I primitively apologize.

Deewana Episode 33 & 34 – Wrap It Up Please!

Ohkay so, it’s high time that the story should not only be moved forward but wrapped up as well because it is going around in circles since ages. The 1st episode of the week was good & it got my hopes high but the 2nd episode was just as boring as most of the previous episodes have been because once again, all the side characters came forward & the main characters got lost in the flock.

I am not sure what to make of the changes that the characters show in their stance because where at one point they say something entirely different, the very next moment they change their stance & push their luck the wrong way. Shama became friends with Mehru & not only that, she gave Mehru her blessings & approval in regards to her marriage with Falak but in the very next episode she was seen pushing her agenda once again where she now wants Mehru to reconcile with Haris & go back to him. Shama has been quite clear with one thing that she doesn’t trust Tabrez & Amtul, so how come she is ready to trust Amtul again, just because she has showed up & is putting up an act? This is the reason why I believe that the coverage that the character of Shama gets is unjustified & she is being used perfectly to keep the story moving around in a loop with no end to tie everything together. I am amazed at how quickly Shama flips like a coin, where at one second she sees Falak as her son in law but in the very next second, she is happy with the thought of seeing Mehru & Haris together.

Haris is another confused soul who has no idea what he wants to do with his life & he is also the one who doesn’t stand by what he says. He says he will take revenge from Amtul & Tabrez for how they ruined his life but the very next moment, he is seen hoping to have Mehru back in his life to go ahead with Amtul & Tabrez’s plan of torturing her even more, in order to make some money during the course of his action! What a loser I must say!

I am glad that Mehru has at least kept her stance clear that she will not get back with Haris because she has fallen out of love from that fake relationship, but once again, not only Haris & Amtul, even Shama & Subhan are pressurizing her to forget about Falak. I am glad that she has emerged as a strong girl in this entire mess, where she has clearly told her mother that she will never go back but if only her mother had snapped out of her fixation with her dead son, to see how harsh she has been on her daughter who is rather alive!

After getting a nod of approval from her mother, Mehru was the one who bluntly proposed to Falak as she was so sure of his answer but not only his different answer shook her, it was his reaction that left her perplexed too. Falak knows that Mehru is one tough cookie & she can go to any lengths for the one she loves, so he should’ve come clean & should’ve told her the truth.

Well, Husn Ara is doing everything to prevent Mehru & Falak from committing a mistake & more than that, she is concerned for Mehru because she knows that Mehru won’t be able to cope well with the truth, that is why she captured Falak & is doing everything to keep him away from Mehru, so much so that she ended up lying to Shama that Falak has left for UK. After all this scenario, I really hope that Mehru doesn’t go back to Haris’s house because that would mean a further stretching & dragging in the story, which is so not required because it is so obvious that Mehru will be in danger, Amtul will torture her, Haris will treat her badly & then Falak will rescue her but before that he will have to persuade Mehru that he won’t deceive her this time. I think all this shouldn’t happen & they should wrap the story ASAP where Husn Ara learns it the hard way that Falak can change for Mehru & they both can be together. I am not sure when will that happen because it’s been more than 30 episodes already & Mehru’s family hasn’t even gotten a hint about Falak & his family’s reality, well happens, I hope it happens quickly because this drama has become quite boring already! Anyways, please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Deewana.

Deewana Episode 31 & 32 – Please Move Things Forward!

0

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were again on the slower side but then some progress was made in terms of story which again should’ve been made ages ago. I am not sure why the director is taking so much of time in revealing the story & moving things forward because the story has been going around in circles since ages & now it is becoming burdensome to keep the interest alive in the show. I find a lot of situations repetitive & also I feel that the side characters are getting way more screen time than the main leads, which is compromising a lot on the story & the pace of the drama.

Looks like everyone at this stage is playing mind games with one another. Amtul is playing games with Haris, where she wants him to destroy Mehru’s life for the sake of some reward that she has promised to him along with a huge amount that Haris has demanded. Haris is playing games with Amtul, where he has assured her that he will do everything that she has ordered. Gaiti is playing games with Mehru by telling her everything about Haris, in a hope that she will change her mind & forget Falak. Gaiti is also playing games with Haris as she knows that the moment he will try to win Mehru back, her path of becoming closer to Falak will be cleared.

I am not sure what Mehru is thinking because at one moment she is all rude with her mother & then the next moment, she is all friends with her. The scene which they actually should’ve showed in which Mehru went with a proposal to Amtul’s house was exempted. I feel that was the turning point which wasn’t tackled properly because it had shown us how determined Mehru was & also, I feel they don’t really establish the grounds for the moves that the characters will make, like they didn’t show what made Mehru change her mind & what convinced her to go to Amtul & ask for her help in getting divorced from Haris. That entire thing came out of the blue & didn’t really seem well-established because so far Mehru was happily playing ludo with her father & on the other hand, she went to Amtul’s place & promised her that she will take the entire blame of Rabeea’s death on herself?

Despite being told off by Falak, Gaiti is still bent on winning him over, that is why she is trying to create misunderstanding between him & Mehru & also, she is now assisting Haris because she thinks Mehru will take him back & she will forget about Falak. Both Shabnam & Gaiti are getting way more coverage than required & at times there scenes are funny but at times, they just drag the entire episode.

The only interesting developments were related to Falak’s character. He has fallen in love with Mehru & now Husn Ara & Shams are dreading the fact that Falak is showing those attributes which they have never seen before & which their species does not endorse. Even though Shams tried to scare him by showing him the future that he might have with Mehru which will only bring misery to her, Falak’s love for her didn’t budge but it did make him uncomfortable. Not sure what Falak’s next move will be but I guess he should tell Mehru the truth as it’s a high time now.

Overall, these episodes were quite slow & I guess it’s about time that things should start wrapping up as they have taken enough time already. Please share your thoughts about these 2 episodes of Deewana.

Deewana Episode 29 & 30 – Slow & Repetitive!

Ohkay so, this week’s episodes of Deewana failed to keep my interest alive because everything that happened seemed quite repetitive. It seems that the story is on the loop & there’s not even an inch of a progress that is being made. I really think that they should move the story forward if they are still not in a mood to wrap the drama up. At least some progress will let the viewers enjoy the drama without looking forward to the ending already.

I really think the story loses the grip & the drama loses its charm when the side characters come to the foreground & the main characters are pushed to the background & this is exactly what has been happening in Deewana from the last few weeks. For me, Shama & Subhan are the side characters too & now I am at such a point where I don’t feel much for them because the both spread so much of negativity & give such negative vibes that I don’t relate to their suffering anymore. Yes, at times Shama’s rants can be understood but Subhan has become a burden to watch. Subhan’s heart attack was another negative thing that happened but it looked like Mehru didn’t feel much about it because she was engrossed in her own thoughts too.

I liked that Mehru took a stand for herself once again & told her mother that if she wanted Mehru to forget Falak, then she will have to give up on the thought of seeing Mehru & Haris together too. I like Mehru for the fact that she has been through a lot & after that, she has not only snatched a glimmer of hope for herself, but she has also made her mind clear about the things, people & relationships that she wants in her life, which is why she has firmly told her mother that she can kiss the idea of seeing Mehru & Haris together good bye.

I don’t really understand what does Shama want now? She is not allowing Falak & Mehru to be together & even after Mehru has clearly told her how she will never accept Haris back in her life, she is still bent on making things right between them, but she is not budging, in a sense that she doesn’t plan to be on talking terms with Amtul, then how is she going to fix everything? It’s like Shama doesn’t want Mehru to move on in her life & she still wants Mehru to suffer as much as she can because she fell for a loser like Haris.

I did enjoy watching Gaiti & Shabnam’s scenes a lot but I feel they are getting way more coverage than required. Falak has point blank refused to associate with Gaiti & now it looks like she is planning on taking a revenge from Mehru by trying to be friends with her so that she can get all her secrets & then use them against her. Shabnam on the other hand is a bit too focused on getting Gaiti & Haris married, so much so that she can’t see what sort of a person Amtul is & what sort of a loser Haris is. I thought that Haris had pretty much made up his mind that he will now make Amtul suffer & he will mooch money off her as he knows that she is blinded by her urge of revenge, so why was he seen all confused by the end of the episode? When he has made up his mind then he should stick to the plan & do what he deems right.

Falak has taken the back seat & there isn’t much happening related to him. I think it’s about time that his reality should be exposed on everyone around so that we get to see what Mehru’s reaction & decision would be.

Overall, these two episodes seemed a bit haphazard & didn’t take the story forward at all. I am actually getting tired of Shama’s repetitive rants & the coverage that Shabnam & Gaiti are getting because it has nothing to do with the main story & they are just the fillers who are being used to drag the drama. I think it’s high time that the director should start wrapping this drama up in the next couple of weeks as we’ve pretty much seen it all & the story is stuck & hasn’t given us what we wanted to see. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episodes 27 & 28! (Interesting Developments)

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were definitely better because things moved forward that too at a decent pace. There were some conversations which seemed repetitive but then the overall progress was pretty decent which was much required.

So, Haris has packed his bags & has moved to Karachi. I am still not unsure what to make out of Haris’s move because he threatened Amtul & Tabrez that he’ll drag them to court by spilling the beans in front of Subhan’s family, so I am not sure if his ulterior motive of coming to Karachi is that or he is actually thinking of bringing Mehru back in his life? Haris himself has been quite confused but I wish he had sticked to his plan of exposing Amtul & Tabrez because they are doing nothing except ruining his life. It was quite obvious that Haris was unhappy after what he did to Mehru because his conscience didn’t let him live peacefully & may be that was also one of the reasons he turned against Amtul & Tabrez because he became bitter & bitter day by day. Anyhow, his intentions are still dubious because we have seen both the sides of his personality where he can be stubborn enough to do what he feels like & then he can also easily become a puppet of Amtul & Tabrez. I like this uncertainty for now because it keeps the interest alive & for that reason, I am definitely looking forward to see if Haris actually has had a change of heart or he is just getting Mehru back in his life to torture Amtul & Tabrez & to blackmail them by keeping them on the edge that he might tell on them any time.

Finally, Mehru & Falak have confessed their love for each other & Mehru has done her part of the confession even in front of her parents. Their love story is very sweet because both of them are equally committed to each other & respect each other the most. Now it’s time for Falak to come clean but he definitely knows that his reality will come as a shock to Mehru & his honesty might cost him their relationship, that is why he seemed a little uneasy when Mehru told him that she expects nothing but honesty from him. Mehru already has been through a lot & her husband; the love of her life lied to her, that is why the only thing she wants is honesty but sadly, Falak’s honesty is far more complicated for her fragile mind to handle. I like Mehru’s character for the fact that she is not your typical bechari who will keep on sulking because of what life has thrown at her. She has suffered her part of the pain & that is why she is giving herself a chance because Falak made her realize that she can have a second chance at life too where she can be happy & feel loved as well & for that reason, she is taking a stand for her love & is doing everything to let others know that she is ready to move on in her life.

Shabnam finally put forth a proposal of Gaiti for Falak. I loved the way she convinced Husn Ara & tried to tell how much stuff Gaiti will bring if she will get married to Falak. Shabnam might be annoying for others, but when it comes to her daughter she is just a mother who loves her daughter to bits & would do anything to make her happy. Even though Shabnam wants her daughter to get married to Haris, she still tried her luck with Falak’s proposal as she knew that it will make her daughter happy. I like how all the characters are not completely black & white in this drama & only because of that, they seem real & relate-able as they react differently in different situations.

It was good to know Husn Ara’s side of the story too. It looked like her family owned the kingdom but Agha not only snatched their status away but also killed Husn Ara’s husband & Falak’s father. This is the reason why Husn Ara dreads returning back to her own world as she knows that Agha won’t spare Falak too. I hope they cover this side of the story a bit more where we get to see how Falak will deal with this truth & how he will battle with Agha to restore the status & position of his clan.

To be very honest, the most boring & purposeless characters in this drama are Shama & Subhan. They are just there because they are Mehru’s parents because other than that, not only their scenes are boring, their conversations are repetitive to the core too. The moment Shama starts talking, I fast forward her scenes as I already know what she will be saying – she will either be cursing Mehru, or she will be putting a blame on Subhan & if not that, then she will be playing the self-pity card where she will keep on talking about all the things that she has lost & how she is the only victim. I really feel the editor should edit her scenes out because they don’t offer anything at all!

Overall, these two episode of Deewana were definitely good & I liked most of the conversations. I will say that the dialogue writer has done a fabulous job, it is actually quite refreshing to hear such interesting conversations with meaningful dialogues that shed a light on the beauty of our language. Also, I will add that if it wasn’t for these actors, these dialogues wouldn’t have made such an impact, so props to all the actors for conveying these amazing dialogues flawlessly. Even though in all the scenes, it is hard to tell who’s wearing more makeup; Iqra Aziz or Shehroz Sabzwari but I like how their get ups & overall looks compliment the fantasy genre of the drama, so props to the makeup artists & the stylists as well. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these tw episodes of Deewana. :)

Deewana – Episodes 1 & 2!

Ohkay so, the writing of Adeel Razzaq, direction of Ahsan Talish & the production of Moomal Productions; ‘Deewana” hit our TV screens this week on Wednesday & Thursday at 9PM. This is going to be a soap opera & I think we are in for quite a ride similar to HUM TV’s Muqaddas that was aired last year. This drama has a mystery & fantasy feel to it & I must say I enjoyed watching the first two episodes & they introduced all the characters in a great detail.

The story is about the families of two brother Subhan & Tabrez (Waseem Abbas). Subhan’s family includes his wife Shama (Saba Hameed), his son Shayaan & his daughter Meher Sultana (Iqra Aziz). Tabrez’s family includes his son Haris (Junaid Akhtar) & daughter Rabeea. Shayaan & Rabeea were married & similarly, Haris & Mehru were engaged to be married too. Rabeea & Shayaan were never in love nor they both shared a great relationship with each other.

Collage 01

Rabeea obviously wanted more from life but just because her father Tabrez had bigger goals in life, he married her off to Shayaan without her consent as he had his sights on the family wealth & property. Unlike Rabeea & Shayaan, Haris & Mehru were totally in love & they had great plans for their future that they dreamed of achieving together. Mehru did feel that Rabeea & Shayaan’s rift can cause harm to their relationship but Haris assured her that he wouldn’t let anything come in between & pull them apart as his only concern was leading a peaceful life with his lady love Mehru.

Rabeea & Shayaan had a tiff once again which went out of hands. Rabeea ended up shooting her husband to death & then she committed suicide too as she was done with her life. In the bewilderment, Mehru ends up holding the gun due to which Tabrez puts a blame on her that she was the one who shot Rabeea to avenge her brother Shayaan’s death. Things get nasty & Tabrez along with his son Haris decides to wreck Subhan’s life. Shayaan’s death takes a toll on Subhan’s family & Tabrez also leaves no stone unturned in punishing them for the crime they didn’t commit. Subhan has lost his voice & Shama is still finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that her daughter in law Rabeea killed her only son.

Collage 02

One fine day, Tabrez decides to show up at Subhan’s door step all apologetic for how wrong he was & what he did to them. It wasn’t shown but it was conveyed through the dialogues that Tabrez filed a case against Subhan’s family but couldn’t prove that it was Mehru who killed Rabeea. Tabrez & Haris apologize to Subhan time & again but Shama makes a point that she will never forgive this father & son duo because of what they put their family up with. Mehru does say that she will never forgive Haris but deep inside she loves him till date & thinks that both Haris & she are not guilty of anything so they shouldn’t face the brunt for what Shayaan & Rabeea went through. Shama & Subhan give in to the pressure of Mehru & they allow Mehru to get married to Haris & as expected, Tabrez’s apology turns out to be nothing but a farce as looks like he still hasn’t forgiven Subhan’s family & now wants to torture their daughter to avenge the death of Rabeea which he still blames them for.

I must say the direction of the first two episodes was amazing. The camera work was brilliant & I liked a lot of shots & angles, especially the way they put the window to good use in one of the scenes in the 2nd episode. Mehru’s character is good but has a lot going on for her. She hallucinates & only the maid Chanda Bee (Anita Campher) has seen Mehru speaking to herself time & again. Mehru hasn’t realized that she has a problem going on because she has so much of emotional trauma to deal with that may be her mind never allowed her to pick up on this fact. I most definitely liked Shama’s character too & feel for her because Saba Hameed did justice to Shama’s role & gave that character such a personality which elaborated the pain & sufferings of a heart-broken mother perfectly. Shama still hasn’t come to terms with the fact that her son is no more & now her daughter is going to get married to Tabrez’s son. Shama is quite skeptical but she knows that she can not win against Mehru as even Subhan is on Mehru’s side. Well yes, let me inform you guys that there was a lot of screaming & yelling in the first two episodes & the initial part of the 2nd episode especially was only dedicated to the noisiness, so brace yourselves. I wish Waseem Abbas & Iqra Aziz give their vocal cords some rest because to hear them screaming on top of their lungs was quite hard to tolerate.

I feel the director succeeded in giving this drama quite a mysterious & fantasy feel which actually seemed aesthetically appeasing, however a few of the scenes seemed a little too long & stretched like Tabrez’s apology & Mehru’s depression pangs & screaming sprees but other than that, both the episodes were quite interesting. The dialogues were written decently too & all the actors did a wonderful job. I also liked the OST & more importantly the way it was used to add more depth to the scenes. I feel acting comes naturally to Iqra Aziz so she should let the natural talent take its course as she ends up trying too hard at times. Also, I think she should go easy on the hair-extensions because they were all over the place & didn’t really add more ‘beauty’ to her personality which she perhaps was aiming for. I am actually looking forward to Shehroz Sabzwari’s character because that was the only thing that actually sparked my interest in the drama. The preview of the next episode was a déjà vu of Muqaddas where Iqra Aziz gets kidnapped at the night of her wedding, so looks like Haris will do something of that sort too but Mehru will escape from his trap to make things different. Anyways, let’s see what do they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about these two introductory episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episode 25 & 26!

Ohkay so, honestly speaking I am a little disappointed with the pace of this drama now & that too at such an extent that I couldn’t watch these episodes in one go & had to take multiple breaks as it couldn’t capture my interest at all. I really like the characters & also the story but the way the director has slowed the pace down, it is taking away all the interest that I used to have where I would wait for this drama every single week. I really hope they start wrapping this drama up because I am dreading seeing slow episodes every time now!

Haris has told Amtul & Tabrez about his plan of going to Shama & helping her out in filing a case against them as Haris knows Amtul & Tabrez can go to any extent to save themselves & that is why, he is making the most of it. Amtul & Tabrez never saw this coming that is why Haris’s announcement not only came as an unpleasant surprise to them but served as a shocker too. Haris wants money & he is making sure he makes Amtul & Tabrez pay for what they have done which is exactly what they should do for ruining his life & treating him as a puppet. However, I do feel that everything has taken a toll on Haris’s mental & emotional state so I am not sure if he is doing it after a well-thought plan or he is just going after them without any full-fledged plan in his mind, because at times it did look like he wasn’t in his best state of mind & was quite badly disturbed, so not sure if he will be able to stay on his grounds & yes, Haris’s disturbed emotional state did seem realistic as anyone living with Amtul & Tabrez would lose their minds!

I really dislike the characters of Shama & Subhan as parents because what they are doing to Mehru is worse than what Haris, Amtul & Tabrez did. They don’t trust her & they don’t love her enough to wipe her tears, Subhan was ready to kill her & now after finding out that Mehru is in love with Falak, Shama wants her to go back to Haris. Yes, I don’t expect Shama to support Mehru completely when it comes to her feelings for Falak any mother would never want her daughter to get divorced but what she shouldn’t do is call Haris back even after knowing what he has done to Mehru & expect Mehru to go back to Haris because if there’s someone who has seen Mehru suffer is Shama herself. Shama hated Tabrez’s family & blamed Subhan for everything so how can she expect that Haris must’ve changed & he will now accept Mehru & give her the rights of being his wife? Shama’s idea of drifting Falak & Mehru apart using Haris is actually ridiculous, because it’s like she is pushing her daughter her in a hell hole willingly.

Gaiti is after Shabnam that she should go & put forth the proposal of Falak & Gaiti’s wedding in front of Husn Ara. Gaiti has been rejected a lot of times, that is why she is not after Shanbam to do what she wants as she won’t listen to her mother again in the matters concerning her marriage. I feel Shabnam is still a better mother than Shama as at least she understands & hasn’t kept herself oblivious of daughter’s sufferings, because if we look at Shama, it’s like she herself wants her daughter to suffer as a revenge of her son’s death.

There was no progress in the Falak Mehru track this week. They both know they love each other but what’s next? Mehru definitely has asked for a divorce but she never knew that her mother will also become one of the obstacles for her. I hope Falak helps Mehru in getting rid of Haris. Yes, the preview of the next week’s episode did seem interesting so I am looking forward to it for sure. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episode 23 & 24!

Ohkay so, the drama has come at that stage where things have not only become monotonous but have also become stagnant too. It’s been quite a few episodes now that things aren’t moving forward & all the situations & scenarios are looking repetitive. I really enjoy watching this drama so I really hope that they don’t ruin it by dragging things to a point where Deewana loses its charm completely. I really think the story should move forward because this drama has a very few characters so slowing down the pace makes all the characters look like fillers actually.

Haris has waged a war against his so-called parents. He knows that they never really treated him as a son & only gave him favors because first he was a toy for Rabeea & after her death, he became a pawn that they used, to play their mind games. Haris has understood that more than him needing Amtul & Tabrez, they both are the ones who need Haris the most as they have planned their revenge on Subhan & his family keeping Haris in their minds. Amtul & Tabrez thought that they had hired a lifelong slave who will do everything that his masters will tell him to & it was actually their misapprehension to believe that Haris didn’t have a mind & heart of his own. Even though I know that Tabrez won’t succumb to Haris’s pressures, but in the meantime, the tension that has overtaken their lives is well-deserved & much needed. I guess it’s about time that Amtul & Tabrez realize that they need to snap out of the hatred they have towards everyone because they are earning nothing out of it.

Shama has lost all the faith in Mehru that’s why she actually felt the need to guard the entrance to Mehru’s room. It is at times sad to see a mother having no confidence in her child & holding her responsible for all the problems that their family is facing. I think Shama should sympathize with Mehru in stead & she should actually console her as her daughter has endured way more pain than Shama can imagine. Mehru has finally addressed the elephant in the room & she has told her mother that she is in love with Falak. I am not sure if that’s something that she is saying under the influence of the spell that Falak must’ve cast on her or that are her genuine feelings for him, but I guess Mehru actually has fallen for Falak because like Falak said, he didn’t do anything to Mehru & he is not the one controlling her mind & heart.

What Subhan tried doing to Mehru was downright evil & I don’t really understand both Shama & Subhan as parents nor I want to because they are on a self-pity spree & I find it ridiculous how they believe that Mehru is the root cause of entire emotional trauma that they are facing? How can Subhan forget that it is his own brother Tabrez who has made things difficult for them & why does he forget that Mehru has suffered because of his brother Tabrez too? I find it absolutely irrational of Subhan & Shama to be forgetting everything that Amtul & Tabrez did & for treating Mehru as someone who invited these troubles on their entire family, whereas being parents, they should be the ones who should be extending moral support to her.

All of Husn Ara’s fears are coming through. She dreaded that things might get serious between Falak & Mehru but that still happened against her will, then she also assumed that Mehru will never confess her love for Falak but they both found out that she finally did that too in front of Shama. Now Husn Ara knows that Falak is going to be unstoppable as he knows what Mehru feels for him. Husn Ara can’t go back to her world as she herself is protecting her family from Agha. I am not sure what role Agha has to play in their lives but I wish that his character makes an appearance soon as that might make things a tad bit interesting & he will definitely break the monotony. Gaiti & Shabnam’s scenes didn’t offer a comic relief this time around as they are looking purposeless too. Shabnam wants Gaiti to get married to Haris & Gaiti has fallen in love with Falak & there’s nothing more to their track right now.

Honestly speaking, these two episodes were actually hard to sit through, plus my concise review is also an evidence of the fact that I didn’t get anything special to talk about in this week’s episodes. I feel that it’s been quite a while that the situations & the actions of the characters are on the loop where Shama taunts Mehru & Subhan, Amtul & Tabrez torture Haris mentally, Mehru laughs & cries alternatively, Husn Ara reminds Falak how he should maintain a distance from Mehru, Falak tries to make Mehru happy & Gaiti & Shabnam are seen bickering with each other mostly & that’s all that has been happening which is making it hard to keep the interest alive in the show. I still believe that this drama & the story itself has a lot of potential & there might be a lot in store for us but I hope they take things forward quickly because it is becoming a bit monotonous. Deewana – Episode 21 & 22!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were good because they took the track of Falak & Mehru forward. I must say, Deewana has turned into one of those dramas that you can enjoy without expecting too much because it then gives you little surprises that actually make you feel that you haven’t wasted your time. I commend the writer for coming up with something so different yet giving it a very realistic feel because characters & stories like these can get a little hard to digest but that hasn’t been the case with Deewana at all.

I actually feel for Haris, not because of his failures or because of his personality, but because of his parents. I think Haris was better off as an orphan or better off without getting the support of Amtul & Tabrez because they might’ve raised him as a toy for their daughter, but what they are doing to him now is downright evil. Haris is only a puppet & Amtul & Tabrez have turned into puppeteers, because the way they have kept themselves oblivious of Haris’s feelings only shed a light on how heartless & emotionless they both are.

Mehru has started trusting Falak more than anyone around her, why, because he stood by her side when even her own mother dissed her. Usually in such circumstances, mothers give strength to their daughters but somehow Shama made it all about herself & completely forgot that she wasn’t the only one who suffered a loss, Subhan also lost his son, Mehru also lost her brother & along with that, she lost the guy she loved the most because his parents took her to the court. If Shama puts things into perspective, she will find out that Mehru is the one who has suffered the most & has lost everything from all sides. Time & again, Shama has been reminded by Chanda Bee & now even Husn Ara that a mother has all the power to heal & cloud the actions of her child only if she resorts to tenderness & kindness in dealing with the matters concerning her children, especially daughters, but looks like Shama is so comfortable in putting a blame on Mehru that she has forgotten about the scars that Mehru might have as well. It was actually distasteful to see Shama placing a slap on Mehru’s face because it was totally unnecessary & made her look heartless too as just a moments ago she was reminded by Husn Ara as to how she should treat Mehru but Shama conveniently forgot, which makes me feel that she has turned hating Mehru a habit of her own!

It is actually good to see Mehru having someone by her side who supports her selflessly, who understands her pain & who trusts her irrespective of what others might say or think about her because he has heard about all those feelings & emotions that Mehru has experienced. Somehow, the friendship Mehru has with Falak has strengthened her & it has given her the confidence that she needed to know that she can deal with anything that comes her way, that is why it was so easy for her to move on & forget Haris because Falak was by her side when she decided to call everything quits.

Husn Ara actually thought that it was Falak who, for his selfish reasons had captured Mehru’s mind & heart but she was shocked to know that things were the other way round. Falak has fallen in love with Mehru & he has allowed her to control his entire being because when it comes to Mehru, he finds himself losing control over his mind & heart. I love the way their relationship has developed over the time where it started as Falak’s curiosity about Mehru, then turned into a sympathy towards her, then Mehru’s acknowledgement & dependency on him as a friend & now they both are at a point where they are finding it hard to give words to their feelings. For Mehru, Falak is just a regular guy who she might like but things are far more difficult for Falak as he knows about his own reality.

Shabnam & Gaiti are great fillers in this drama & I don’t mind their presence at all because the writer has made their characters quite interesting too. Looks like Gaiti’s love for Falak will turn her into a negative character because she has confessed that she wants to be with Falak by hook or by crook but the thing that I like the most about this entire situation is that Falak is not someone who can be brain-fed easily. He knows Mehru in & out & he loves her truly, therefore I am sure Gaiti’s attempts of maligning his heart against Mehru will fail completely.

Overall, these two episodes were really good & I enjoyed watching them. The preview seems interesting too because looks like Mehru will address the elephant in the room & will openly confess that she has fallen in love with Falak. Let’s see what luck has in store for both of them. The acting of all the actors & the direction of this drama has been amazing so far. I really really like Shehroz Sabzwari as Falak & Iqra Aziz fits the role of Mehru perfectly too, but I must say the scenes where Mehru laughs hysterically were done really well but were quite scary too, lol! Deewana – Episode 19 & 20!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were comparatively slow & didn’t offer much in regards to the development of the story. I really hope they don’t take things slow from now on & don’t compromise on the pace because such stories need to move on at a certain pace to keep the interest of the viewers alive. For the first time, I actually felt that the episodes were not ending & found a lot of scenes a bit too stretched & boring.

Falak & Mehru stayed in Lahore for a week but I don’t really understand why because they didn’t have any reason to be there for so long. Mehru gave Haris the answer he never expected & then Falak gave her some amazing memories to cherish for the rest of her life, so after that they should’ve returned because they are mature enough to know that their families must be worrying sick for them.

Shama has started to feel something odd about Falak & his entire family, also the sudden arrival of Shams left her bewildered but her mind was already pre-occupied with the thoughts about Mehru that she didn’t question him much. Husn Ara was just as clueless as Shama was but all she could advice Shama was to be patient. I somehow feel a lot more for Husn Ara because she is not only worried about Falak but she is concerned about Mehru too as she knows the reality of her son, she also knows that Agha could harm Falak & also, she knows how inappropriate it is for Falak to be with Mehru because he can develop feelings for Mehru which most certainly shouldn’t happen. Shama being a mother of Mehru obviously suffers a lot but being oblivious of Falak’s reality actually is a blessing in disguise for her, whereas when it comes to Husn Ara, that’s not the case as she has so much more to be afraid of.

Amtul & Tabrez went ahead with Haris’s wedding because Mehru’s arrival actually came as a shock to them too & they wanted to take some immediate measures that would close the doors of any reconciliation between Mehru & Haris. When I saw Amtul feeding negativity in Haris’s mind once again, I actually felt sorry for her because I felt that it was the only purpose of her life & it actually is sad to see someone so purposeless & blind. I actually liked the way Shama spoke to Amtul, it was a confidence that she gained after she learned about the fact that Mehru slapped Haris. It was actually good to see the sense of pride in Shama for the first time because what Mehru not only served as a closure to her but it empowered her mother emotionally too. Shama has always held her head high but for the first time, her words were backed by a strong stand that her daughter took for herself & for her entire family. Mehru decided to restore her dignity & pride but indirectly, it uplifted the morale of her mother too, which once again made me feel that Mehru was stronger than she actually thinks of herself to be.

I am not sure what was Shabnam trying to achieve when she called Kashaf. Yes, Shabnam did want Gaiti to get married to Haris but she knows that Gaiti was never into him & she already has started having feelings for Falak more, so Shabnam’s call to Kashaf seemed unjustified, however, the reaction of Kashaf that followed seemed justified because she had just learned that Haris was already married to his cousin & he had been lying to her all this while. Haris ran away because he was humiliated once again but unfortunately, this is what he deserves – getting insulted time & again by everyone around him because he lacks a backbone & also it was a karma that came back & bit him.

Falak & Mehru came back & got the welcome they both actually deserved for being missing for quite a considerable amount of time. Shama & Husn Ara’s reactions were justified & expected but what actually came as a shock was Mehru’s reaction to just a simple question that Husn Ara was entitled to ask. Falak’s presence in Mehru’s life has affected her more than Falak himself realizes, that is why Husn Ara straight away blamed him for what Mehru was going through. I am sure this is the time when Falak will realize how much he loves Mehru as he won’t be able to see her in pain.

Overall, these two episodes were strictly alright because they didn’t really offer much because where a few scenes seemed a bit repetitive, other few seemed stretched & never-ending. Anyways, the preview of the next episode actually looks exciting, looks like things will get complicated for Mehru & Falak & may be it will bring them closer to each other as well. Like always, the acting of all the actors was amazing in these episodes too & so was the direction, the only thing that put me off was the slow pace but I am sure things are about to get interesting in the episodes to come. Please share your thoughts about these episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episode 17 & 18!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were a treat to watch. I must say, I actually missed watching this drama when it didn’t air last week. It has become one of those dramas which I look forward to because the story is different & the characters are quite interesting. I am glad that they took the story forward in these episodes & everything is falling at a right place at a right time.

I loved how Mehru took a stand for herself & left. Yes, it wasn’t appreciated that she left even when her mother condoned her request but Mehru explained herself & explained the reason why she needed to see Haris. For me, this move of Mehru turned her into a strong woman who was ready to deal with her emotional baggage her way & she became someone who was ready for a closure but on her terms & conditions. Yes, Mehru did go ahead with the hope of reconciling her differences with Haris but what happened there took her by surprise too. It was good to see that she relied on Falak & Falak, who was waiting for an opportunity went ahead with Mehru to help her till the end.

Haris actually thought that he had scored a big win because he compelled a girl like Mehru to travel all the way to his city & see him. Haris thought that Mehru was dying without him & was so desperate that she would beg him to not leave her but his ego got bruised when Mehru didn’t say any of that what he expected. I must say the concept of Falak being a someone with supernatural powers was covered really really well, because the way he whispered his thoughts into Mehru’s ears & controlled her mind himself went to show that he wasn’t just a regular human being & could do way more than what people around him could even think of. Mehru placed a much needed slap on Haris’s face & it was enough of a wake-up call for him that in this battle, he lost miserably & Mehru defeated him mercilessly. Haris actually used to get an ego boost thinking that he succeeded in making Mehru miserable but just a single slap from Mehru was enough for him to know that he was sadly mistaken & bring him to the ground.

I must say all the moments that Mehru & Falak shared were beautiful. This is a fantasy drama & I don’t mind seeing a bit of unrealistic fantasy every now & then. Falak took Mehru to his world just to make her forget everything that she has been through & Mehru couldn’t believe what she had just experienced. I loved how they spend time with each other, being silly, being friends & being those who started to confide in each other slowly & steadily. Falak has done a lot for Mehru to realize that he has stood by his word & he proved that he actually was her friend & that is why, Mehru started opening up & decided to move past her worries because Falak was doing so much to make her happy.

Haris couldn’t believe what just happened to him & that is why he even gave his parents a hard time too. It is actually quite good to see that those who’ve done bad to others aren’t leading a happy & peaceful life themselves either. Tabrez & Amtul might think that they’re winning the battle that they have started against Subhan, Shama & Mehru but the way their son Haris is giving them a hard time is enough of a punishment for them as well. I can’t wait to see when Amtul & Tabrez will be abandoned by Haris & they will be all sulking all alone with only their misery by their side.

I enjoyed watching Shabnam & Gaiti’s scenes too. Their dialogues are witty & unique but the way the actresses have conveyed them make them far more enjoyable. Shabnam continued to harass Shama emotionally but little did she know that the news of Mehru slapping Haris will only bring happiness to Shama because that will inform her that Mehru has finally grown out of her marriage with Haris. The way Shama laughed hysterically showed how relieved she was because she wished for anything but to see Haris & Mehru together, so at least that news told her that she should’nt worry much because the thing that she was dreading the most wasn’t going to happen ever. Gaiti has fallen in love with Falak & he has no idea about it. It was actually quite immature of Gaiti to show up at Falak’s doorstep, but she couldn’t help it because she has forgotten what happened to her last time. I like how Chanda Bee & Husn Ara have become such friends who understand each other’s pains & feel for each other too. Chanda Bee knows that even Husn Ara is worried for Falak as much as Shama is for Mehru. It is actually quite admirable that the only thing that Chanda Bee’s good at is loyalty, be it with her boss or her new-found friend.

I think Falak is getting a bit too comfortable with Mehru & just like Husn Ara & Shams discussed, he will end up telling his secret to Mehru because he has given her enough hints & I am sure it won’t take Mehru much longer to put the pieces of the puzzle together. She already asked him the question that he didn’t see coming but even though he will deny the fact for now, he won’t be able to keep up his secret for long. I must say I love how Mehru & Falak’s relationship is developing, Mehru has no idea what she means to Falak & I love the confidence Falak has where he knows that no matter what happens, he will be able to protect Mehru. The thing that he said about respecting Mehru was actually quite sweet. It is nice to see that they both have found a friend in each other that they both were yearning for.

Overall, these two episodes were really really nice & I enjoyed watching them the most. I hope Mehru & Falak return soon & being Shama & Husn Ara out of their misery & also, I actually hope that Husn Ara does something that will keep Shabnam away from Shama & the vicinity of her home. It was actually quite amusing to see how Husn Ara threatened Shabnam & left her speechless. I must say I love the direction of this drama, the director deserves full points for directing this drama so brilliantly. All the situations are covered perfectly & most importantly, there’s a clarity in the elaboration of what the characters go through. The writer deserves full points as well for such a brilliant piece of writing, especially etching out the character of Falak so beautifully & for such a realistic portrayal of emotions that humans go through. All the actors have done a brilliant job but for me, Fazeela Qazi & Shehroz Sabzwari take the cake. They are flawless as Shabnam & Falak & make their scenes a treat to watch. Iqra Aziz looks really pretty when she smiles, so I hope the writer has put her past the crying stage & now we’ll only see a happy Mehru. Please share your thoughts about these two episode of Deewana & let me know how much you loved them! :)

Deewana – Episode 15 & 16!

Ohkay so, the pace of Deewana has slowed down a tad bit but you don’t feel it if you watch the episodes back to back, having said that I do understand that the writer is trying to give coverage to all the characters & their tracks simultaneously, that’s why they are focusing on one event that is taking place in everyone’s life, which is effecting the pace & the development in the story, but it all seems acceptable because this drama is interesting & so is the story & the characters.

It was good to see that everything that Chanda Bee said had some affect on Shama & she understood that she was being harsh on Mehru for no good reason. It was for the first time when Shama tried to understand the pain & anguish of Mehru but she was pushed back by the thing that Mehru demanded. Mehru thinks she can fix things by going to Lahore, that is why she was keen on getting the permission from her parents. The scene where Mehru & Subhan played ludo in such a dour setting actually made me feel for both the father & the daughter a lot. They have lost everything & most importantly, they have lost a purpose in life, they all seem so lifeless & lack soul because they have suffered a great deal of pain. The body language of both the actors in that scene especially conveyed their feelings immaculately. Shama smiled at that sight thinking that things were getting normal may be & Mehru & Subhan were engaging in the things they enjoyed but little did she know about the demand that Mehru was going to put forth because it was enough to snatch away all the peace & harmony that Shama experienced after a long long time.

At first, it did seem that Mehru’s demand was irrational but later when she spoke about her motive behind meeting Haris, it seemed justified that she wanted to know the reason behind Haris’s betrayal. This is going to be a perfect closure for Mehru & she needs this in order to move on & make herself realize that she doesn’t deserve a good-for-nothing husband like Haris. When Mehru asked Falak to search for Haris, it was so obvious that anything that Falak had said about Haris would’ve been rejected by Mehru & she would’ve refused to believe it but it is good that even though in agitation & irrationality, she is taking such a huge step of going to Lahore because now she herself will find out the truth about Haris.

Tabrez & Amtul may have lost their daughter, but they are still stuck in the past & they are not doing anything to face the reality & move on in their lives. They love to dwell in the misery but they are forgetting that they can not force Haris to feel that way & destroy his life over a girl who wasn’t even his full sister to begin. It’s an irony that Amtul & Tabrez have never once questioned their upbringing & they have never once asked questioned themselves about getting their daughter Rabeea married to Shayan when she never wanted to. Also, Tabrez’s intentions were never clean because he got Rabeea married to Shayan so that she can inherit some of Subhan’s property as Shayan was his only son, so if just once Tabrez & Amtul question themselves, they will be shocked to know that they are the one’s who pushed their daughter towards death & she paid the price for their selfishness. Even now, when Tabrez & Amtul have lost their daughter, they are now trying to use Haris to attain the property that Subhan owns. I am actually glad that Haris has understood their intentions & he is now doing everything to fend for himself because even he knows that Tabrez & Amtul don’t need him, they just need the property & once they will get it they will chuck him out of their lives. It is good that Haris knows that he is the one who can help them achieve what they are wishing for & that is why he is putting forth his conditions too because they have damaged his life enough already. The way the writer has showed how Tabrez & Amtul as parents have influenced the personalities of their children is amazing, they both are negative so it was obvious that both Rabeea & Haris had to turn out to be like their parents too; cunning, conniving, manipulative, selfish, bitter & negative.

On Falak’s front, nothing much happened but looks like his friendly nature has made Gaiti fall in love with him & sadly, he doesn’t know how to deal with her. Falak actually doesn’t know how to say no, that’s why he is unable to stop Gaiti too. I really thought after that weird encounter, Gaiti will never try to go near Falak’s home but she is quite a determined girl. The bits & bobs of Gaiti & Shabnam were as usual interesting & made the mood of the episodes light-hearted.

Overall, these two episodes were interesting but the preview of the next episode was even better. I can’t wait to see what Mehru will say to Haris & how everyone will react when she will place a much needed slap on Haris’s cheek. I hope Falak got a little more coverage this week but never-mind, I am sure he has a great role to play ahead when Mehru will go to Lahore & it will be good to see the bonding of Falak & Mehru as well. Looking forward to the next episode already. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episode 13 & 14!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were quite interesting but I must say I enjoyed watching the first episode of the week a lot more than the one that just finished airing because it had some interesting developments & some comic scenes too, where as this episode was quite dull with an exception of a couple of scenes.

So, Haris revealed his true colors & he confessed that he doesn’t love Mehru at all. His strong denial can also mean that he still loves her but is too ashamed to face her, that’s why he has accepted the fact that hating Mehru is the only option left which is right too. Looks like Haris was just putting up an act of being miserable in front of his parents so that they will allow him to get married to Kashaf but then what more can you expect from a guy who grew up under the supervision of such a negative couple, who before doing any favors upon the child made sure to let him know where he comes from. Haris had to become bitter & negative because that’s the environment he grew up in. Well, the conversation Haris & Amtul had was very interesting, it went to show how Haris knew what he should say that will satisfy Amtul & will make her believe that Haris was on their side. The things Haris said about women being nothing more than a piece of possession only went to show the mentality that Amtul & Tabrez have instilled in him, Haris knows that Amtul & Tabrez are making him payback all the favors they did on him by taking away his right to live a free life, that’s why he has developed this urge to control at least someone & he sees Kashaf as a soft target. He may or may not love Kashaf but he most certainly wants to control her in order to feel that even a helpless guy like him has an authority over someone. It is sad but Haris has started lying to everyone & may be himself too, he has lied to Kashaf about how Mehru was only his fiancé, he lied to Amtul by saying that he hasn’t told Kashaf that Amtul & Tabrez aren’t his biological parents & then he lied to himself that he hates Mehru because if he would’ve hated her, he would’ve never told his friend to spy on her just to find out what is happening in her life, it does show that he holds himself responsible for destroying her life but now when he knows that he can not undo anything, he is going to stick to the plan that Tabrez has devised for Subhan’s family.

I must say, I do understand Shama’s problems & her pain is not a secret but her incessant blaming & taunting gets tedious to watch. Why can’t she understand that Subhan & Mehru have suffered just as much pain as she has suffered, because if she will realize it, she will stop being so harsh with them. Mehru has seen the love of her life destroying everything & crushing her dreams, Subhan has suffered the death of his son too, so what makes Shama think that she has an upper-hand on them because she has suffered more. I think Shama needs to snap out of the self-pity & should come to a closure because more than anyone else, she’s the one who needs it the most.

Husn Ara finally decided to meet Shama & introduce herself. Their meeting was interesting but what I liked the most was the way Husn Ara treated Chanda Bee & formed a connection with her on the basis of respect. It was imperative that Shama grew suspicious of Husn Ara by judging her appearance & personality but the remark she made about Husn Ara being an immoral & immodest woman was a bit too much. I don’t know why but my dislike for Shama’s character is growing more & more with each passing episode & I most certainly agree with Falak that Shama talks way too much because just like Falak, even I was having a hard time listening to her never-ending rants!

So, Mehru wants Falak to go to Lahore & find out about Haris. She really needs to get her act together because Haris is not coming back to her. I guess even if Falak will find out about Haris’s intentions & even if he will inform Mehru about it, she will not believe in what she’ll hear so it’s better if Mehru sorts this thing on her own because only witnessing everything herself will make her believe that Haris & Mehru aren’t meant to be. Mehru has started throwing hissy fits & I guess she needs a closure too. She acts normal & all of a sudden goes into depression & does something weird that makes you question her mental stability. I do understand that she has gone through a heart-break & hasn’t recovered from it till date but then she is not making any efforts too, which I think is wrong. I wish that the writer makes her come out of her misery as soon as possible because it’s no fun watching a damsel in distress every single week. The scene where she sits on a bed covered with her wedding veil & with a face full of makeup was actually quite scary, that sudden & random outburst actually made no sense & what didn’t make more sense was Shama’s verdict on that situation where she was sure that Mehru must’ve hung herself & she kept on telling Subhan to prepare himself for the worst, like seriously, what sort of a mother is she?

Anyways, I enjoyed the scenes that Falak & Mehru shared. Falak is making sure to go out of his way to make Mehru & her father happy but I guess he is not realizing that he has started doing things that are unusual or things that humans are not used to. Falak gets carried away & that is why he forgets that he has an image to protect & a secret to hide. He fixed the balloon without thinking that Mehru might notice it & he also told her that Shama was approaching them without being bothered that Mehru might end up asking how he found out about it. Husn Ara has time & again reminded him that he needs to be extra careful when he is around human beings but he doesn’t care & I guess he will end up exposing himself pretty soon. Also, it looks like Falak has found it in his heart to please Gaiti as well that is why he took a dessert to her place out of the blue. I must say that I had a good laugh at how the spy sent by Haris was down with fever because he came in contact with Falak but I feel Falak should’ve found out about his intentions the moment he shook hands with him but he didn’t, well never-mind, I am sure that fever was enough to keep the spy out of bound for the rest of his life.

Overall, these episodes were pretty good but I liked the previous episode better because the revelation about Haris was interesting & something new. All the actors have done a pretty good job but I must say the chemistry that Iqra Aziz & Shehroz Sabzwari have created between the characters of Falak & Mehru is amazing. Also, I think Anita Campher stands out the most as Chanda Bee & like I have said before that despite having very limited scenes, she makes sure to leave an impact, which is great. I really am looking forward to the bonding that Husn Ara & Chanda Bee will share & I must say the last scene of this episode was quite heart-warming where Chanda Bee tried to make Shama understand how she needs to treat Mehru & understand her pains too, it was about time that someone said that to Shama & I am glad that Chanda Bee did the honors. Like I said before, it looks like Chanda Bee understands & feels for Mehru more than her mother does, which is quite sweet. The direction has been great too & there aren’t much loopholes in the story so far. Yes, it is a very small mistake but Mehru ended up calling Adam Falak in the last scene of the previous episode, whereas Adam hasn’t told Mehru that his real name is Falak, I wish the director or the actors themselves take care of such minor things but apart from that, the drama on the whole is great & it has been directed really really well & also, before concluding the review, I will commend the people behind the camerawork of this drama because different angles & shots make it a visual treat & add more depth to the situations. I can’t wait to find out more do they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about these two episode of Deewana. :)

Deewana – Episode 07 – 12!

Ohkay so, I must say I loved watching these 6 episodes of Deewana a lot. I enjoyed watching it because for me it’s a perfect blend of fantasy, drama & comedy. I must commend the writer for coming up with something so unique & brilliant at the same time. All the characters make sense even though some of them are different to what we’re used to watching but the treatment that the writer has given to them & how he has made them seem believable is amazing. The director also deserves full points for giving this script such an amazing treatment & making all the characters work for us.

So many things happened in this last 6 episodes that I enjoyed watching them a lot, it goes to show that the pace of the drama is perfect & the story is evolving. Agha finally made an appearance & as we all expected, Agha & Husn Ara have quite a history that they share. It looks like Agha is on the evil side of the spectrum while Husn Ara & her family are on the good side. As their conversation suggested, it looks like Agha has at one point of time caused harm to Husn Ara’s family, that is why she doesn’t share a cordial relation with him & also, she dreads that Agha might harm Falak as he knows that Falak’s all that Husn Ara’s got. It looks like Husn Ara still awaits the arrival of her husband & Falak’s father, that is why she doesn’t agree to move from this place when Falak suggests it.

The war between Husn Ara & Agha worked in Falak’s favor & he got the permission to move to Mehru’s place as a tenant. The way Falak made his way into Mehru’s life & home was quite interesting. I loved the tiff Falak had with Shabnam & how he defeated her. It was good to see that for the first time Shama gave consideration to what Mehru said & even though she didn’t believe in what the lady said, Shama had it in her heart that she should reject the first tenant, but I am sure she would’ve never done that if Falak hadn’t come up with such an amazing deal. Falak knows that this family has been through a lot & that is why he has taken it as his duty to change things & circumstances for them. Right now, Falak can’t do much as he pleases because he has Husn Ara & Shams around him who keep on reminding him of his limitations & restrictions but I love how makes the most of the smallest opportunities to bring smile on Mehru & Qureshi Sahab’s faces.

Haris is struggling more than Tabrez & Amtul imagined. They thought that just because they will remind him about all the favors they have done on him despite him not being their biological son, he will give in to the pressures & will do what they will ask him to do. Even Haris thought that he will find it in his heart to deceive Mehru & grow out of the love he has for her but now when it isn’t happening, he is dwelling in the guilt more & more & may be because of that he wanted to make things right & confess that it wasn’t him who left Mehru in the lurch. What shook Haris the most was the news of Mehru’s association with a guy who has moved to her place. Haris knows that Mehru can never ever betray his love & trust but just as Haris doesn’t have much spine in him, he doesn’t have much brains too, that is why he thought it was a right idea to send a spy to fetch the details of Mehru’s family & happenings. Tabrez & Amtul’s negativity has blinded them, that is why even after they have destroyed Mehru’s life, they are not at peace & want to cause more damage to Qureshi’s family. I actually thought Haris will escape the emotional blackmailing but he is not strong enough. He knows that Tabrez has done so many favors on him that now he has to reciprocate even if he doesn’t want to.

I am so glad that the main characters are past the crying stage & even though the feel of the drama is still gloomy & sad, a few comic situations lift the drama up & lightens the mood too. I must say I love the introduction of Gaiti’s character in the drama & I love the equation both Gaiti & Shabnam share. They provide a comic relief & their conversations are so humorous & witty that I enjoy them a lot & actually look forward to their scenes. Gaiti is eager to get married & that is why the moment she heard that a good looking guy lives in Mehru’s place, she thought she should try her luck. What followed was sadly something that she never had imagined but it was good to see Husn Ara coming to Gaiti & Falak’s rescue. It is quite interesting to see how Husn Ara ends up doing the damage control even though she hates it. It shows the love she has for Falak & how she understands him. Even though on the surface, Husn Ara keeps on reminding Falak of how he could land himself in trouble by mingling with the humans, she keeps a close eye on him to be able to protect him as he’s all that she’s got.

Shama has shown a lot of improvement over these episodes as her bitterness has curbed a bit but I don’t really understand why she allows Shabnam to affect her mind & thoughts so much. Shama knows the sort of a person Shabnam is, so now if Shama knows that everything that Shabnam says is meaningless, then she shouldn’t believe on the things that she utters too. It was a sad state of affairs that Shama started doubting Mehru’s mental condition just because Shabnam instilled the seed of doubt in her mind that Mehru has gone through so much that she might’ve lost her sanity. Shama underestimates her husband & her daughter way more than she should & if Shama has some wisdom in her, then she should understand that it is Mehru who hasn’t lost her sense & despite going through so much & despite enduring so much of pain, she still is an optimistic & a hopeful person who thinks that things will be alright & she will be able to change her condition.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed watching these episodes of Deewana & I am so looking forward to what is yet to come. I am sure the writer has a lot of surprises for us in there so I am eagerly looking forward to them. I must say, I love the way the dialogues have been written, it is good to see the writers upping their game in terms of dialogue writing. I most certainly love all the conversations that happen between Shabnam & Gaiti, both Fazeela Qazi & the actress playing the character of Gaiti have such an amazing sense of timing that their scenes become a treat to watch. I must say, Shehroz Sabzwari has impressed me a lot too. He has performed wholeheartedly & it shows, it looks like he is so so so comfortable as Falak that he makes his character seem believable & a treat to watch. Iqra Aziz looks beautiful & she has improved her acting a lot as well. Even though Anita Campher doesn’t have much scenes but she gives it all to the bits where she performs & adds such a charm to her scenes. Saba Hameed has done well too but I easily get tired & bored of her angry bird face. I must say I appreciate the writer’s attempt of bringing in the comedy in a story that started off at such a serious note, it makes things lighthearted & entertaining & more than that it makes me look forward to what’s yet to come. Deewana – Episode 05 & 06!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were interesting like the previous episode but there were a few bits & bobs that were off-putting which were ‘solely’ related to the continuous crying & a lot of unnecessary screaming, but with that being said, I enjoyed the rest of the scenes a lot & it was good to find out more about Falak aka Adam.

Even though I do feel for Shama, I feel she tends to go a bit overboard with her husband & her daughter. Obviously, that is understandable too because she has no one else to share her feelings with but she needs to understand that just like her, her husband & her daughter, both are dealing with their emotional baggage too. If Shama is depressed, so is her husband & if Shama is disturbed, then so is Mehru too. I feel that Shama puts a lot of blame on Subhan for the things he is not responsible for because she would’ve been in his shoes, she also would’ve fallen prey to such a seemingly sincere apology. Also, it is a bit sad that Shama doesn’t leave an opportunity to let Mehru know that she is the root cause of all the problems. I find it a bit too mean of her because if a mother can’t relate to what her daughter is going through, then that’s a big problem. At times I feel that in Shama’s comparison, Chanda Bee sympathizes with Mehru & understands her pain more.

It is good to see that Mehru has decided to deal with her pain her way, which doesn’t involve incessant crying. Yes, she tends to get a bit emotional here & there but that is natural considering how she has lost not only the love of her life but her husband too. Haris is still in love with Mehru but with parents like Tabrez & Amtul, he knows he doesn’t stand a chance of stating that he wants to be with his wife Mehru & wants to put her out of this misery because she is not responsible for what his sister Rabeea went through but if only he wasn’t such a chicken!

I must say I enjoyed the scenes of Falak & his interaction with Mehru’s family a lot. Looks like this is the first family of humans that Falak has gotten in contact with, that is why he is finding it hard to maintain a distance from them, since he knows that they are in deep trouble, so he wants to help them out as much as he can to bring a smile on their faces. I loved his interaction with Chanda Bee & Shama. I must say the timing of Shehroz Sabzwari as Falak is phenomenal, he seems so comfortable as Falak that it is becoming a treat to watch his character. I really like how Chanda Bee is so engrossed in her own thoughts that at times she ignores the most obviously odd things like Mehru’s solo conversations while she hallucinates & now Falak’s own confession of him being 500 years old, haha, cute!!!

Well, it was good to see that Mehru decided to rely on Falak in order to find her father because she knows that he has gone out of the way to help her, so she knew that he will help her this time around too. I also liked that Mehru decided to knock some sense into Shama’s head that she has been quite rude & harsh with not only Mehru but with her husband Subhan too, that is why he left the house & chose to wander aimlessly as he knew that if he’d stay with Shama, her nagging & taunting will not stop. I actually hoped that this will make her realize how bitter & harsh she has been but sadly, she didn’t budge & chose to stay the same.

Shabnam knows that she has hit a jackpot & that is why she is making the most out of it. She knows that Amtul & Tabrez’s hatred for Subhan’s family has blinded them, that is why they will do everything to torture them, therefore she decided to put a price tag on it for her own benefit. It is actually quite sickening that even after Amtul & Tabrez have destroyed Subhan’s family completely, they are still not backing off, but I am glad that now Falak has appeared out of nowhere, he will make sure to protect & take care of this family sincerely & wholeheartedly.

Well, as far as I believe & going by the voice over, I think Aly Khan will be playing the role of Agha. Agha seems to be in love with Falak’s mother Husn Ara & looks like Agha is the sort of a person who believes in getting what he likes, that is why he shamelessly told Husn Ara to accept his feelings because that will ensure Falak’s safety. I am sure Agha knows what sort of a person Falak is & how he can walk an extra mile for the sake of helping others, so I believe there will come a time when Agha will use this trait of Falak against him in order to blackmail or emotionally upset Husn Ara.

Overall, both these episodes were really good but yes, I will say, the yelling & crying is putting me off big time. I must say I find it amusing that the one who’s not a human being seems more humanly than those who’re humans because all of them are unnecessarily loud & gesticulate so exaggeratingly that they end up looking like caricatures. I hope Shama, Tabrez, Haider & Mehru tone down their expressions & loudness a couple of notches because all the things that they spoke about didn’t need such high-pitched voices. Yes, we get it, they all are mentally & emotionally disturbed but things should’ve been a bit smoother & should’ve also been easier on viewer’s eyes & ears. I must say, I am highly impressed by Shehroz Sabzwari’s acting in Deewana as Falak, at times he did remind me of Amir Khan’s performance in the Hindi movie PK but I am not saying it in a negative way. Falak is nice & cute, he is humorous & has a happy-go-lucky nature, which I am sure Mehru won’t be able to resist the charm of for too long. Everyone else is acting nicely too but I wish as the episodes progress, their emotions settle down a bit. Also, I must add, I love the dressing & makeup of all the ladies in this drama, the stylists have done a great job. The direction & the editing of Deewana has been amazing too which is an added bonus. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Deewana.

Deewana – Episode 03 & 04!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were great & a treat to watch. I am actually liking the mysterious feel of this drama a lot & with an introduction of new characters, it has multiplied even more. I like the treatment that the director has given to this drama because he has perfectly conveyed the feel that they were aiming for. For now, this drama looks quite promising & it seems that it has a lot of potential to become a perfect entertainment. After Muqaddas I wish the writer has gained enough experience to know when to end a drama & how to give it a complete ending because even though Muqaddas was quite an interesting journey, the stretching & an incomplete ending couldn’t make it a memorable drama, however I do have high expectations from Deewana & I hope that they make it a drama that we all will remember.

So, seems like Haris & Mehru got married & unwillingly at the night of their wedding, Haris left her in the lurch because that’s the promise he made to his father. Tabrez came up with this plan of bringing a bad name to Subhan’s family by targeting their daughter as till date Tabrez & his wife Amtul (Farah Shah) believe that it was Mehru who shot Rabeea & they aren’t ready to accept the fact that Rabeea committed suicide. For Tabrez & Amtul, the court’s verdict wasn’t in their favor, that is why they decided to punish Mehru & her entire family by doing something so horrendous to her. They have in short destroyed her life by getting her married to Haris & making their son leave her as now she will have nowhere to go & nowhere to hide, which is quite evil. Deep inside, Haris knows that what he has done is wrong & Mehru doesn’t deserve any of this but the forlorn faces of his parents leave him helpless & doesn’t allow him to state what he actually thinks is right or wrong.

Collage 01

Amtul decided to send her cousin Shabnam (Fazeela Qazi) to Mehru’s home after Haris left Mehru, just so that she could fetch some details & add more fuel to the fire. It is sad that now when Amtul & Tabrez have completed their revenge, they still aren’t backing off & still believe that they have some score left to be settled & that is why Shabnam was the pawn they used to further insult them. Even though I love the dialogues & the proper usage of Urdu throughout the episodes, I found the conversation between Shama & Shabnam a bit misleading & confusing. Shabnam came to congratulate Shama for Haris & Mehru’s wedding, but the very next moment she implied that Mehru ran away with Haris to which Shama replied by saying that Mehru can never do such a thing because her daughter ‘would definitely wait till her parents had arranged her Rukhsati‘? So I am not sure what was happening there because going by what Shama said, it looked like they didn’t arrange Mehru’s wedding yet but if I look at the events that took place & the things Mehru said while showing her bridal dress to her parents went to show that she was getting married to Haris the next day. I think it was a mistake in the dialogues or a glitch that the director didn’t pay attention to because considering how Shabnam’s visit was an important aspect of these episodes, it wasn’t written properly & got me confused. Also, the fact that Mehru hallucinates doesn’t help the situation either as most of the times I am left wondering if the one she is talking to is actually in front of her or not, hehe!

Collage 02

Anyways, lets talk about the hero of the drama; Falak. What an entry, what an impactful performance & character. I enjoyed his bits the most. I know for some people Falak’s character will be more of a caricature but I liked the unrealistic aura of his entire character. At least it gives us something different to watch & it happens to be something that we’re not used to. So for now I really like his character & not only Falak, his entire family seems interesting & pleasantly mysterious too. Falak bumped into Mehru when she was looking for Haris & he being a Good Samaritan, decided to take Mehru to his home which was the idea that wasn’t appreciated by his mother (Hina Bayat). The conversation between Falak & his mother was quite interesting as the things she said implied that she was more concerned about Falak coming in contact with someone who is different to them. She has definitely put a lot of restrictions on him because she knows that his kindheartedness can land him in deep trouble & also because he has an identity to hide. I like how they didn’t give away everything yet & built the curiosity perfectly as I am sure there’s so much more that we have yet to explore especially the fact about who they are & what makes them different.

Falak decided to drop Mehru to her home & he did at the wrong time in front of a wrong person; Shabnam. I loved the expressions & gestures both Shabnam & Falak shared, it was so obvious that Shabnam was taken aback by Falak’s personality & looks, that’s why she was curious to find out more about him. It was good to see that Shama didn’t make a fuss about why a young & good looking man like Falak was bringing Mehru home, it went to show that she trusted her daughter & knew that her daughter must’ve went out to find her husband Haris. Well, looks like Falak has fallen for Mehru & more than that, he is worried that she doesn’t smile more often, she is sad & he feels it is his duty to make her happy. Falak’s mother will never approve of the idea & that is why she told Falak’s cousin Shams to keep an eye on him as she dreads that he might mingle with Mehru & might end up putting himself in danger. Another name that was mentioned was of Agha, which actually changed the atmosphere & looked like he was someone that Falak is afraid of, looks like we’ll have to wait for his entry now but it won’t be too long considering how Falak is not taking the boundaries set by his mother seriously, so may be an it will compel Agha to take an action against Falak.

Collage 03

Honestly speaking, I was actually dreading seeing Mehru regaining her consciousness because I was afraid that we’ll get to see more screaming & crying but that thing was covered flawlessly by Shama. I wish they all are past the yelling & crying stage because it tends to get a bit too much for the viewers to handle. However, I must add that I feel a lot for Shama as she has literally lost everything. It was good to see that Mehru came to terms with her misfortune quietly & I am sure with Falak in her sights, it won’t be too long when she will completely forget about what Haris did to her. Oh Farah Shah, why you do this to us? We aren’t done hating your character of Zubaida in Aabro & here you are, with another negative character. Even though I am a huge fan of Farah Shah & have always loved her acting, but I am not sure if I’ll be able to handle the dose of her negativity thrice a week or not as Deewana airs twice, hehe!

Well, I loved the get up that the stylists chose for all the characters of Falak’s family. They are playing the characters that we aren’t used to watching but I still feel nothing went over-board & there was nothing about them that was OTT. They all seemed perfectly normal with a little quirky twist to their personalities & characters, which is quite interesting in my opinion. I wish to see Mehru bouncing back immediately & I also wish that there comes a time when Mehru punishes Haris for what he has done & also for being a loser. I am sure Haris will come back to Mehru time & again & will unsettle her emotionally & I am dreading this but I have a feeling that Mehru might forgive him & also consider going back to him, believing that he is apologetic but I hope it doesn’t happen as I wish to see a girl who knows how to walk out of a relationship with a guy who has shattered her trust time & again.

Shehroz Sabzwari acted brilliantly as Falak & I am looking forward to see what more his character has to offer. With characters like these, there’s always a fine line between under & over performing but Shehroz Sabzwari gave Falak’s character a perfecttt treatment & made his bits a treat to watch. I am thankful to Iqra Aziz for not crying too much but yes, she did scream a little which he got punished for, which is ohkay! Overall, the direction, the screenplay & the editing was great. My favorite scene has to be when Falak & Mehru came across each other for the first time, it was filmy & also visually appeasing, which I loved! I like the dialogues too & I think all the writers have really upped their game when it comes to dialogue writing, which is great. The background music was nice to listen to as it wasn’t too dramatic & I am glad that they haven’t over-used the OST. This is for the first time that I’m seeing Fazeela Qazi playing such a character & I must say I was giggling throughout her scenes, especially when she was filling her bag with the biskoots LOL, she’s cute & the flower in her hair added more cuteness to her overall look! I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two episodes of Deewana & I am sure you guys did too, so please without a further ado, feel free to share your thoughts. :)
