Prateik Babbar’s mother died due to complications in her childbirth when Prateik was born. Eventually, Prateik was raised by his maternal grandparents in Mumbai. He has also said in interviews that he had a strained relationship with his father while growing up, as his father was “always busy with his other family.” However, he has also stated that he and his father were reconciled after Prateik grew to adulthood. Prateik’s stepmother is the actress Nadira Babbar and his half-siblings are Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, who are actors as well by profession.
Prateik Babbar started his professional career as a production assistant prior to seeking her professional career as an actor. Before making his screen debut as an actor, Babbar showed up in a number of TV commercials for a wide variety of items, including Nestle KitKat, on the recommendation of the movie producer Prahlad Kakkar. Since his introduction to the Bollywood film industry, Babbar has earned a number of awards, for example, a Filmfare Award and a Stardust Award.
Babbar made his screen debut with the coming of age movie Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008. Following a battle with substance abuse in 2013, a problem that Prateik Babbar had struggled with in the past as well, he went through rehab and counseling and has managed to stay sober since. He attended acting school taking up a course in method acting at the Jeff Goldberg Studio in 2016. He made a comeback with the comedy drama Umrika, which opened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival to a positive response. In 2011, during the filming of Ekk Deewana Tha, he began a relationship with Amy Jackson, a British actress from Liverpool. They broke up the very next year and ended their short term relationship. In 2019, he then married his longtime girlfriend Sanya Sagar.
