Aamir Liaquat is definitely THE person for Ramadan transmissions. Whether you like him or not, you will get to watch him every Ramadan at different channels hosting the transmissions. This year we saw him on PTV but rumours have been circulating that h has been sacked from the show due to his rude behaviour with the management.
He put the rumours to rest when he appeared at the Iftar transmission with his second wife Syeda Tuba and also cooked qorma with her. Ohkay so, this episode of Cheekh was strictly alright which borderline was actually boring for me to sit through. I found this episode to be never-ending & a bit too slow. The events that took place in this episode actually brought back some memories from the recent drama Balaa because it looked like Wajih is the male version of Balaa in Cheekh, since he is controlling everything & no one is able to do anything.
Wajih Is The Male Balaa:
To be honest, the entire scenario where Wajih followed Mannat & then she literally had to run away to save herself was poorly executed & did not make any sense. It looked like Mannat went to the pharmacy near by her place to fetch a medicine so not sure how she ended up at a highway where she had to run to save her life. The Mannat that we know is someone who would have gathered the entire crowd normally if Wajih had tried intimidating her so not sure what happened this time around & why she ran out of the blue because it was so unlike her? Mannat also usually is seen driving everywhere so it was again unconvincing that she ended up walking that too when she herself is not really feeling well due to her pregnancy. I guess if they had shown that Wajih chased Mannat’s car causing her to crash into some fence or electricity pole, resulting in Mannat losing her child, that would have still made some sense.
The rest of the episode just focused on how heart broken Mannat & Shayan were. Haya also found out & she was shocked too. Yawar was heart broken because of his divorce but then he has Wajih, the ultimate joker who knows how to make fun of the most serious situations. This episode had a lot of flashbacks & some were never-endingly long especially the one where Shayan was recalling how Mannat used to act all cute when she was pregnant!
The court case did make some progress but it is unfortunate that such an important aspect is being treated as an afterthought. Mannat’s lawyer is mostly failing to match the prowess & level of Aqil Zada & that’s all there’s to it. It was good to hear Ramzan speaking clearly without crying. I am sure Amir will twist the truth in the next hearing & it will further drag the case making it a bit more complicated & in favor of Wajih. One more episode went by & Shariq did not make an appearance. If Shariq is staying away from Wajih at this point that is alright but at least they should have shown what he is doing to make Ramzan & his family feel comfortable, like how is he supporting them behind the scenes. Also, the scenes of the servants are fillers I know but they are repetitive & totally unnecessary. We do understand that two servants are in favor of Mannat whereas Saleem is Wajih’s pet but is there ever going to be more to their characters or their part in this entire situation?
Closing Thoughts – Double Episodes Please:
Overall, this episode of Cheekh was just alright, which I somehow expected especially after the last happening & fast paced episode. I feel they have kind of steered away from the main purpose of the drama & have shifted the focus on how cunning the culprit is & how the one who has taken a stand against him is suffering on all levels. They really should show them battling it out in the court while also covering how they are having a strained relationship on a personal level too, that would actually make it balanced & meaningful. I think they are really testing the patience of the viewers now. I really do not understand why they are not airing the double episode of Cheekh, I mean they should considering how slow paced the overall drama is. They have spent enough time showing the personalities of all the characters so I guess it’s high time they should show some action & not waste too much time in showing the prolonged suffering of those who are in support of Nayab. The acting of all the actors continues to be impressive & the direction is good too it’s just that the pace is compromising heavily upon the impact that this drama would & should have made. Also, from the last couple of episodes it is good to know that Bilal Abbas can speak clearly but it does look like he is putting in a lot of effort. Tonight’s episode was one of the most important episodes of this drama since it didn’t only make Noori’s mindset more clear than ever but it also changed the course of the story altogether. The dialogues in particular were beautifully penned down and all the actors did complete justice to their respective roles. Iqra Aziz stole the show completely since Noori went through so many different emotions tonight – confusion, helplessness, ungratefulness, realizations, empathy and most importantly the maternal instinct because of which everything else in her life took a backseat.
Noori Is No Longer Confused
Noori’s pointless life has a real purpose now especially after she realized that Sahir was never the person she thought he was. He rejected her because in his opinion her character was flawed because she stole to save him yet he was the one who planned all this for his better future. Noori always wanted a better future but that never involved money, for her izzat came before everything else. Noori put her izzat at stake to save him and that incident was the only reason why she ended up doing something so drastic as a result of which she lost everything.
This episode changed my perspective of Noori’s character altogether, she has been foolish but Noori proved once again tonight that she is not vile and she is not greedy for money. She loved Sahir because she still believed that he loved her too but the way Sahir opened up completely in front of her made her question his intentions as well as his character. For the longest time, Sahir’s character was confusing but tonight it was quite clear to the viewers and to Noori that Sahir has always been a manipulative, greedy and selfish person who can do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Sahir has been getting away with everything he has done so far, he is a great planner and a master manipulator which is why he is clearly overconfident now. He was so certain that Noori will love him no matter what that he revealed himself completely to her. This is going to be the turning point in the drama because now it’s going to be Noori against Nusrat and Sahir now.
Ama Janate’s conversation with Noori tonight was one of the most beautiful scenes in this episode. Later on, Fehmida assured Noori of her support and when Noori heard Fehmida talk about Bhola with Rizwana, it made her see things from a different perspective. The flashback scene was used intelligently to show the change in Noori’s thinking.
The Mannat
It seems like Fehmida’s mannat involved leaving the child she gave birth to at the shrine. Her dialogues in this episode suggested that Fehmida was so desperate to have a child that she was willing to do anything therefore she made this commitment but never fulfilled it. Fehmida has always had a lot of faith in peers and mazars therefore she is convinced that she is being punished for not fulfilling her promise. Rizwana too is more negative than ever now because she knows that once Noori has the child, she is not going anywhere. She confused Fehmida further, made her feel guilty for not doing as she promised and as a result Fehmida rushed to the mazar yet again. The preview of the next episode suggested that Bhola might end up in the shrine but this could also be Fehmida’s nightmare.
Sahir and Nusrat’s Plans
Although Sahir said that Nusrat wanted Bhola dead now but Nusrat was never shown planning anything like that because surely that would be foolish since Bhola’s child would be the legal heir so there is no point killing Bhola. Nusrat was angry and more confused than ever tonight but would he actually be foolish enough to go along with Sahir’s plans? Sahir keeps on calling Nusrat ‘sharif’ perhaps because in his eyes he is not as evil as he himself is. For the longest time some of us were also thinking that Nusrat killed Bhola’s father but tonight it seemed like he couldn’t kill anyone. He is surely evil but perhaps not evil enough or maybe not desperate enough just now.
Overall Impression
The story is now headed towards an ending we can all look forward to. Noori has chosen to be a saviour and when Noori decides to do something she does it with all her heart. After a long time she is also thinking more clearly instead of letting her heart dictate to her. Syed Jibran is always outstanding in a negative character and his portrayal tonight too was right on point. This episode belonged to Iqra Aziz, Noori, completely. Bhola, Imran Ashraf, was sorely missed tonight since this drama is incomplete without Bhola. Waiting to see what Noori does next and I can’t wait to see her win this battle for herself, Bhola, Fehmida, her child and even for Komal.

Ohkay so, these episodes of Meer Abru were intense & had so many gripping moments. What I like the most about this drama is that all the tracks have been handled with a lot of finesse & attention. There is so much going on but nothing feels like an afterthought. All the developments unfold appropriately & does not leave anything for viewer’s imagination. The credit definitely goes to the director for handling this script in such a way & doing justice to it completely.
The Dynamics Are Changing:
Haya turned out to be more stupid that I thought. Even though she knew that Abru had an issue with Waleed & she constantly took Sana’s name in the mix but still she was so blinded by the love she had for Waleed that she didn’t even think about the consequences. At this point I feel Abru should have involved Sana & they both should have had a conversation with Haya about the game that Waleed was playing because Abru clearly understood what he was upto. When Abru especially found out that Waleed had proposed to Haya, that is when she should have told Sana to tell Haya everything. I am not sure what Abru was waiting for, or may be she thought that Haya wasn’t this stupid, Waleed had just proposed & they weren’t going to do something serious!
Waleed & Haya got married & that’s when Haya’s attitude changed. I seriously don’t blame Haya because people often take such steps in the name of love but they don’t really realize what the other person is actually like. When I saw the promo last week I thought Waleed will harm Haya but ye to kafi sharif type hi nikla, lol. He married her & then dropped her home tameez se. Which was unexpected but nice. May be Waleed will slowly start torturing Haya which obviously is his plan but for now, he is behaving which is good. Haya’s attitude made me chuckle, it was like after finding a wealthy & smart guy she started behaving all high & mighty in front of her sisters – so typical & real because this is what actually happens when immature people fall in love while having a wrong idea!
Abru’s character is just so so nice, she is well-rounded person who not only understands everyone around her but strives to be there for her loved ones always. I love the way she is so authoritative with her sisters while still being frank with them. Every time Abru says ‘ye tum kiss tarhaan baat kar rahi ho’ always seems so genuine as if she really is hurt because she can see where her sisters are going wrong & are not allowing Abru to help them. Abru is someone who only expects her sisters to respect her & when they don’t, that is what hurts her the most!
Meer continued to be unreasonable with everyone around him, be it Abru or Saim or even Waleed, where he supported Waleed & overruled all the concerns Saim had about his involvement with Abru’s sisters. Meer loves Abru madly & he is proving it by taking one irrational decision after another. Meer is unable to put his mind to the fact that he is causing pain to everyone around him just because he himself is hurt. Ah! That scene where he calls Abru to the office for a few minutes, only to see her. Our hero here is so misunderstood but sad is, he is not doing anything to fix his image either.
Saim continued to show support to Abru because he genuinely understood her struggles especially in the matters concerning Meer. It is like Saim loves Abru but he also feels guilty for what he is putting her through as no matter what, Saim is well-aware of the fact that even Abru had feelings for Meer & she loves him, even if she denies it. The scene where Abru is dressed as bride with Meer walking upto her & they both have their eyes locked on each other was beyond brilliant. In that moment, no words were spoken yet so much was said, Abru still melts every time she sees Meer & Meer doesn’t hide his feelings either but unfortunately, they both can’t be together. Saim saw everything which made him uncomfortable to the point where he even decided to ask Abru if she still wanted to be with Meer. If Saim had known that it is only Meer who is involved in a one-sided love with Abru, Saim wouldn’t have been this conscious but now he is because he knows that Abru loves him too & what he saw confirmed it as well. Abru still denies as she firstly can not trust Meer & secondly she can not hurt Saim because he has been nothing but nice to her. Even though Saim is totally supportive right now but it does look like he will run out of patience & might find himself suffocated in this relationship later especially with Meer being around them all the time. Even now Meer makes sure to not leave Saim & Abru alone or allows them to have a moment to themselves. Unfortunately, Meer is just emotional, he is not too conniving to read between the lines & understand Zaibi’s hidden agendas. Zaibi makes sure to keep Meer informed about Saim & Abru, as she can totally see her dream becoming materialized because of Meer’s irrational behaviour.
Meer has started doing exactly what Zaibi wants him to do because she knows this way both the families will drift apart. It has come to this point where both Ghazanfar & Jamal are actually concerned because they feel whatever is happening is not beneficial to their families in the long run. I will say, Meer has made it his mission to outbid Saim in whatever he does & he is trying to crush him emotionally, that is why Meer didn’t even let Saim question Waleed. However, it was nice to see that Meer didn’t just let Waleed off the hook completely & he actually left after warning him. All such moments add a lot more depth & complexity to the story which makes it all super interesting to watch!
Closing Thoughts – My Favorite:
The team of Meer Abru has created magic on screen. I love how they have kept the chemistry between Meer & Abru so strong but when Abru is with Saim, there is not really a chemistry but just good vibes that two good people share. Also, even though Waleed & Haya’s relation is going to hit the rock bottom but they both look good together too. I love the relationship that all these sisters & brothers share with each other. It was so realistic that after Haya misbehaved with Abru & Sana, she was feeling bad. I wish Sana also has an important role to play in the future because for now her character doesn’t have much going for her. The styling of everyone is on-point except Jia Ali’s. I must say her botoxed hair are the funniest thing about her character, I say botoxed because I am certain that no amount of hairspray or gel or any normal product can’t stop your hair from moving, so may be she got her hair botoxed to keep them stuck like a cardboard. Everything else about this drama is on-point. I am enjoying watching all the equations & how the dynamics are changing. All these characters are complex & dynamic which makes Meer Abru another favorite of mine. In simple words; story, acting, direction, editing – everything on-fleek. Tonight’s episode of Aangan covered a period of nine months yet not much changed. The story is going around in circles and every single track has been stretched to the limit. Whether it is Alia’s mother’s selfishness, Jamil Bhaiya’s love for Chammi and Alia, Chammi’s love for Jamil, Alia’s love for Jamil, Azhar’s love for Congress and Bua’s love for Malik Muzaffar’s zamana – everything has done-to-death written all over it. The interactions between all the characters are more or less the same in every single episode even if something grand happens, there is little or no difference in the characters and their interactions.
Same Old
Alia’s mother’s plans tonight were the most annoying part of this episode since in all these years she has learned absolutely nothing. First she took her husband for granted and now she is taking the people who gave her shelter for granted. Watching this woman complain about every little thing and being extremely thankless has definitely not been entertaining especially because it is pointless. Alia sounds like a pretty reasonable girl when she interacts with all the other characters but when it comes to Jamil, she stops making sense altogether. Had Alia not fallen in love with this man, her character would have been far better. She is shown constantly lying to herself and others.
Alia got the education she needed in order to have a decent career instead of doing what her mother wanted. This part was most certainly pleasing but the way she ran to greet Jamil and later on flirted with him wasn’t the least bit likable. I am generally not a fan of such romance where girls are running after men, flirting with them yet they are too scared of admitting their feelings. It is especially annoying when this is also accompanied by unnecessary/inappropriate physical contact, like the way Jamil twists her arm every now and then. There is nothing appealing about a man ‘hurting’ a woman in this manner yet we are watching this happen more and more in our dramas. In drama serial Anaa, Altamash constantly does that whenever Ezza doesn’t give him the attention or response he wants and Jamil bhaiya is the same.
Chammi and Alia
Chammi came to meet Alia finally and even though she was deeply hurt inside, she pretended to be the same old playful and carefree Chammi with a sense of humor. Alia could sense that Chammi was trying to hide something. Chammi’s story suggested that she is still waiting for Jamil to rescue her. Her life is clearly miserable but her daughter has given it some meaning. Just like every other episode, Chammi was the only character I felt for although her love for Jamil too can be annoying at times. Her entire life story is truly tragic yet she refuses to play the victim. Sajal Aly’s portrayal is always picture perfect. Her confidence and the way she adds more life to this character makes it easy for me to like Chammi even with all her flaws. The Kareeman Bua, Chammi and Alia scene on the rooftop was the only scene tonight which truly worked for me. However, in this scene there was a minor issue with the audio.
Overall Impression
The few seconds in this episode in which Alia’s mother was actually happy because there was finally a good news was the only real change otherwise all the other tracks continue to be grim, depressing as well as pointless. The scenes continue to be repetitive and the story lacks direction or meaning. Mawra Hocane has give an outstanding performance throughout even though Alia’s character has been hypocritical and annoying at times. Sajal Aly is another actress who makes her presence felt and makes you feel for her. Other than that Aangan continues to be the ultimate snooze-fest.

Ohkay so, this episode of Khaas took the story forward & established the set of ordeals that Saba will have to face in this marriage & all that she will have to put up with in the name of marriage. The story of Khaas seems pretty simple & straight forward – a girl after having her self-esteem crushed will then be rescued by a guy who will rebuild her confidence & make her feel special. The story is predictable but it still qualifies as a drama that can be tuned to, however, I am not sure how long I or the viewers will be able to put up with female protagonist’s frowned & forlorn face, it just gets to you!
Saba & Ammar Are Poles Apart:
So, Saba got married to Ammar & they both started getting to know each other. Even though everyone around Ammar & he himself knows how eager he was to get married to Saba because he liked her, Ammar is making sure to conceal it as he doesn’t want Saba to feel that she meant something to him. Ammar has casually brushed it off by saying that his family wanted him to get married so he chose to settle down but the truth is, he himself got stuck on Saba & couldn’t take her out of his mind.
Ammar is a clear case of narcissistic personality. He is self-absorbed & because he has always been the centre of attention, he has now started believing that only he deserves to be heard. Ammar happens to look like a completely normal & happy-go-lucky person but he actually is quite difficult & rigid. Ammar has this idea of everything in his mind & he can not bring himself to accept if something goes against what he has perceived it to be. Sarwat Nazeer has written a complex character & the director has tried his best to make all the layers of Ammar evident but it’s just that the overall feel & vibe of the drama is a little too commercial which kind of takes away the seriousness of the script & its concept.
So, Saba & Ammar got married & Ammar was just being himself, which was good to a point that he was not keeping anything filtered but then, it came to an extent that he started hurting Saba’s feelings. All the things that he said to Saba lost their meaning the moment he started nit-picking & shaming her for her features. Saba’s reaction seemed a bit too prolonged where she couldn’t take it out of her mind, which she actually could have. May be Saba is shown to be quite a sensitive person that is why she reacted this way but generally she was taking everything to her heart, a bit too early.
Ammar not only had an issue with Saba’s hands or hair, he also had a problem with the fact that Saba was opinionated & she dared mentioning what she felt. Ammar basically wants a robot who acts or behaves the way he wants too which obviously is going to suffocate Saba to no end. Saba could have dealt with Ammar’s obsession with beauty or met his standards but Ammar made it very difficult for her when he didn’t even realize that he was being disrespectful towards her in front of everyone as well. Ammar is bratty & Saba obviously is having issues but then everyone else thinks she has hit a jackpot because she has gotten married into a wealthy family. Saba’s sister is just as annoying as Ammar – especially with her comparisons & complaining.
Faakhir left after being heartbroken because he found out that Saba got married to Ammar, his best friend. I did get a feeling that Nida must be interested in Faakhir, but I hope not since she referred to him as Faakhir Bhai. I hope she takes him as a proper bhai. I feel after Ahsan Khan, Haroon Rashid is taking the role of being a naqaam aashiq of the industry but then in this drama he does have some hope because after Saba parts ways with Ammar, she will end up with Faakhir.
Closing Thoughts – Strictly Alright So Far:
Overall this episode of Khaas was again strictly alright. Even though Khaas is a script of Sarwat Nazeer, direction of Danish Nawaz, I feel Sanam Baloch shouldn’t have played the role of Saba because all this while I kept on drawing comparisons with the role she has played in her comeback drama Teri Raza. In that drama she also got married after getting pressurized, she was emotionally unsettled & unhappy in her marriage plus not to be forgotten the forlorn face she sported the entire drama. I feel any other actress could’ve played this role & it wouldn’t have made any difference on the overall drama. However, considering the body & kind of work Sanam Baloch has done in the past, she really should pick dramas that are different & characters that are challenging & substantial.
