Pakistan Cinemas will not Screen Indian Films

Karachi’s Nueplex Cinemas announced that they have stopped screening Indian Films. The management posted it on the face book as well.

“To express solidarity with the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the Management of Nueplex Cinemas has decided to stop the screening of Indian films with immediate effect. We will keep our patrons informed of further developments in this matter.”

Presently the cinema is showing Pakistani films Maalik, Jaanan, Actor In Law and Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai and Hollywood releases, Sully, Storks and The Magnificent Seven.

The screening of Bollywood film, the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Pink, has been stopped.

Soon the Atrium cinemas will also make public announcement as the website of the cinema also shows that management has decided not to screen Indian films.

This move followed earlier pressure on Pakistani artists to ‘leave’ India in 48 hours.

Pakistani Celebrities are Banned in India By the Indian Film Assocation

0

As already known that the Pak- India tension is increasing day by day. In result of this tension the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) has simply “banned” Pakistani stars including singers, actors and technicians from working in India till “normalcy”.

This resolution was passed during the annual general meeting of the association.

indian

The president of the IMPPA, TP Aggarwal said, “We’ve passed this decision in the AGM today on the demand of all the producers. Henceforth, till the situation is okay between the Pakistani and Indian governments, we will not hire any Pakistani artist, technician or singer. We will maintain this till the relations between Pakistan and India are okay. The AGM at IMPPA House in Mumbai was attended by more than 200 film producers”.

The resolutions was passed due to the 48hours deadline given by the nationalist party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to Pakistani celebrities to leave India. Though no prominent Pakistani artist is in India at the moment, upcoming concerts of Shafqat Amanat Ali and Atif Aslam have been cancelled.

On the other hand an exceptions has been made for those projects who already have engaged Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan-starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Mahira Khan-starrer Raees.

Aggarwal said, “If there’s any ongoing project from which [Pakistani artistes] cannot be removed now, on which everything has been done, they can come for that”.

Banning of our stars by India was very much expected and here they have fulfilled our expectations. We welcome our celebrities in their home country.

Mein Sitara Episode 26 Review – Extremely Enticing

This was another superb episode of Mein Sitara which showed the ups and downs in Sitara’s life. Sitara has proved over and over again that she is a fighter. Now that Sitara has Falak in her life, her top priority is to ensure that Falak gets everything she did not get as a child and at the same time Sitara’s line of work does not effect her life in any way. The opening scene of this episode showed a very different Sitara. There was a time when Sitara used to get hurt by the things Naseem used to say to her and did not have much to say in return but this time around she was the one who put Naseem in her place. Similarly, when she met Jamal she made sure that she spoke her mind. When her parents questioned her decision to send her daughter to another city she did not hold back! Just like every other episode there was a very definite change in Sitara’s personality. This episode covered a few years and in these years the change in the entertainment industry was also shown. Sitara managed to earn enough to start her own parlour and all through these years Pappu was a close friend and now her partner. Although Sitara kept her parents with her and looked after them but she made sure that they did not make her decisions for her.

ms

Sitara’s reaction when she saw the news about Illyas Khawaja went to show that she had not forgiven or forgotten him. This scene was very well crafted just like all the other scenes in this episode. One minute Sitara was cursing him, hoping his channel fails and the other minute she saw an opportunity in this new development. The way Sitara keeps on turning to Farhad Sethi for sharing those turns in her life which impact her the most in a positive or a negative manner is also an interesting addition to the story. I truly felt for Farhad today, every time Sitara visits her he becomes more upset!

Apart from the confrontations that were on point and a pleasure to watch, Saba Qamar’s acting as well as her makeovers made this episode a complete package. Saba Qamar has portrayed all the different phases of Sitara’s life faultlessly. The writer has given the viewers a story which is not only different but also very logical and entertaining. Sitara’s character has been the biggest strength of this story right from the first episode. The credit for this goes to all the people involved; the writer, the director, the actor and even the make-up artist.

ms

The preview of the next episode showed that Falak comes back home and she wishes to be an actor, director, dancer – anything at all that is associated with the entertainment industry. This will prove to be another difficult turn in Sitara’s life. There was a time when Jharna used to tell Sitara that the world of glitz and glam wasn’t as appealing in reality as it looked like from a distance but Sitara never understood that. Now, Sitara is in the same situation but the huge difference is that Sitara attached all her hopes to Falak’s bright future. Sitara’s struggle is not over yet! She has won every other battle in her life but will she be able to win this one? And if she does than what price will she have to pay for it?

The next episode would be the beginning of a new phase in Sitara’s life. I am eagerly looking forward to what the Mein Sitara team has in store for us. How many of you watched this latest episode? Please share your thoughts about it.

Sang e Marmar Episode 05 Review – A Rollercoaster Ride!

Oh wow!!! The makers of Sang e Marmar most certainly know how to keep the viewers at the edge of their seats. This entire episode was so engaging & intense, while still being unpredictable because it kept me guessing & I believe it was the unpredictability that made it even more interesting. I must say, the way the director has executed this play shows the understanding he had about this script & how his approach was filled with intelligence while directing a story like that. Even though there weren’t a lot of scenarios covered in this episode but what they showed was a glimpse of what is yet to come.

Shireen & Dukhane themselves saw what sort of a person Gohar is & that is why Shireen succeeded in convincing Durkhane that she needs to put a kibosh on the relationship that she has with him because he has been fooling her all this while. Even though Gulistan Khan’s character has been taken a back seat, his mention is enough to tell what he has done his entire life for people to detest him & his clan so much. Shireen knew that she had to do something because now even Durkhane learned the truth about her beloved. I love the relationship Shireen & Durkhane share because being Durkhane’s friend, Shireen understood how hard things must’ve been on her, that is why she decided to meet Gohar on her friend’s behalf & end everything, despite knowing that her sister in law was trying to put a dent in a relationship that Shireen & Saif ur Rehman share.

‘Gulistan Khan ne tera dumba khaya hai, tu uska kumba kha’, Torah & his friend got the opportunity that they were waiting for. They knew what Gohar was about to do will not only malign his reputation but it will cause distress to Gulistan Khan too. Even though Torah’s personality is quite subtle & subdued, his aura is strong enough to showcase the hatred he has for the family members that he is surrounded with. What’s amazing is that Gulistan Khan can never even conceive of the fact that it is Torah who has insinuated everything & he doesn’t plan to stop as in the past, he was weak & helpless, but in the present, he has learned the art of playing mind games.

Shireen’s bhabhi eventually learned the truth but she chose not to believe what Shireen was telling her because even she knew that Shireen & Durkhane will never tell on each other. That is why she couldn’t believe that Shireen was being honest with her, because what she wanted to hear was something entirely different. At least Shireen succeeded in convincing her to keep her secret because she knew that she had a bigger problem to deal with at the moment. l feel the warmth & the beauty of the friendship that Shireen & Durkhane share every single time they both share a screen space. They both are so selflessly honest with each other & Shireen proved that she is Durkhane’s friend because she wanted to protect her from falling into a deep pit without even bothering about what will happen to her if someone spots her & Gohar together. I love the fact that all these girls are so simple, yet they are so iron-willed that they achieve when they put their mind & heart into something.

The scene that all the viewers were expecting was totally different to what we all got to see. Saif ur Rehman did get tipped that it was his sister who was going out with Gohar & just when I thought that Shireen will lose everything, especially her brother’s trust, we saw how strong our naive & gullible Durkhane turned out to be. Durkhane didn’t allow Shireen to face the brunt for her wrong judgment & she chose to show that she had enough courage to undo her mistakes, that is why she went ahead & confronted Gohar with confidence as she knew that she wasn’t wrong & it was Gohar who should’ve been ashamed for playing with someone’s feelings like that. I honestly felt relieved when Durkhane ran away & saved herself even before Saif ur Rehman showed up. When Gohar fell weak, I felt good because he was now facing the consequences. The gunshots sealed the deal that something big is about to happen & while that scene was nail biting, the way Torah’s friend was doing a victory dance had this depressing feel to it because even though it was his moment of glory, someone on the other side must’ve been killed. Things are going to get quite complicated because now it seems Gulistan will come into the foreground & run the show. Also, it looks like Gohar’s prediction of Aurang’s return to the village at someone’s death might come true, it could be related to Gullalai or it could also be something that Gohar unknowingly said about himself, only time will tell!

Ohkay so, the entire episode was amazing because where it had those nail-biting moments, it had some heart-warming scenes too. All the characters have been written with so much of detail & I must say, the director has done a brilliant job in elaborating all these characters on screen with such effortlessness. I am glad we’re getting to watch a drama that is different & has a meaning to it. I must say, the attention to detail in every aspect is making this drama a treat to watch – those tassled bed sheets, a certain type of furniture, their simple dressing & those shawls that the ladies always keep handy, all these little details have brought life to the drama. Once again, this episode was filled with some brilliant performances & was directed flawlessly. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful episode of Sang e Marmar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Teri Chah Mein – Episode 11 – Kitni Chai Aur?!

0

Subah tum say mulaqaat huee aur sham mein tumhari maa say – LOL! The constant assumption by everyone that Mehwish is Faisal’s mother is actually beginning to feel funny now. Mehwish’s obvious recoil at the words and empty stare seem to have become her standard response to such statements. What I find interesting is how everyone seems to be mentally marking Mehwish off as the evil one and labeling Faisal as the bechara who was snared into this marriage. True, Mehwish did marry a younger man and that too her daughter’s ex fiancé but how come nobody ever says Faisal married an older woman and that too his ex fiance’s mother in the same judgmental tone. Interesting – except that this is such a real portrayal of this aspect of our society.

Moving forward, the not so happy trio that is Mehwish,Zara and Faisal has begun to come out of itself and they are introduced to new faces. Mehwish has unwittingly thrown a vulnerable, lonely, ignored Faisal into the concerned arms of Amber and her mother. Amber’s mother while initially came off as a friendly neighbour looking out for a younger new neighbour seems to have become a serious case of elfy glue! If something ends up brewing between Faisal and Amber which seems to be a likely scenario and if her mother is horrified I shall have serious issues with her mental state! The constant bulawas’ and insistence to stay and have chai (haye, those endless cups of chai in this drama!!) or eat or chat and commenting that poor guy lives all alone – seriously what is she thinking?

pic1

Aap ki khushiyon ki keemat aap kay bachon nay adda ki hai. Okay, I have tried to give Mehwish a chance here. Since the day I started watching this drama and as event after event unfolded I had my own opinions but a small part of me gave Mehwish the benefit of the doubt, a possibility for her to redeem herself somehow. Mehwish tries to use the ‘I am a mother, wife, daughter etc but I am also a person first’ card and while I use that card to be able to sneak off for a power nap or have my tea in peace without the kids tearing each other apart – I somehow can not stomach her using that line to marry her daughter’s ex fiancé! Zara’s statement although a bit dramatic since her brother really did not have to commit suicide – yet is not far from the truth. I may not be a fan of her plan of action now but it does shed light on how a child views whatever her mother has done. Anyways, if we were to let bygones be bygones, then moving forward Mehwish is doing absolutely nothing to make Faisal, Zara or any of us warm up to her. Her wedding to Faisal and the circumstances etc be left behind how about the havoc she is wreaking now.

Zara’s wedding has become her top most priority. Every woman worries about her daughter’s wedding, fair enough. But Zara is still in college and Mehwish claims to have big dreams for her, wanting to see her educated, confident and able to make her own decisions but hey, u turn – Mehwish knows what’s best for Zara and at this very moment that is her marriage. Okay before Zara’s father died, yes there were talks of having Zara’s wedding date fixed but then considering how Mehwish resents how she was forced into a marriage, would you not think she would not bring that upon her own daughter. Also, this obsession of Zara’s wedding seems to be fueled more by the desire to have Zara married and out of the house so Faisal can move back in rather than Zara’s actual welfare!

The moment Mehwish sees Faisal talking to Amber was probably the only time I really felt Mehwish’s personality come through. I said in my earlier reviews that something was off with Mehwish and I think I felt that way because although Mehwish had taken a controversial step in her life I still wanted to be able to form an opinion about her, to see aspects of her personality aside from the new marriage. And the past couple of episodes had begun to show us how jealousy had begun to rear its ugly head but Mehwish scoffing at the new neighbours and slapping Zara and lashing out at Zara and Faisal coupled with how she is dealing with Zara’s marriage leaves no doubt in my mind of the kind of person Mehwish is becoming or maybe has been. Seems like Zara’s plan of revenge is not so far fetched and may happen sooner than later!

The past couple of episodes and preview for the next show how Mehwish is struggling to adapt to society’s perception of her. Faisal will find himself another mum-daughter duo and forgive me for this snide thought but I hope it is not Amber’s mother he falls for while Amber falls for him! What a fitting end to this drama this would be, ha! This guy’s past record he kuch aisa hai. Anyways, I am hoping there is more to this drama now than the seemingly obvious. I found this interesting in the first place due to the fast pace and wild chain of events but I have a feeling the drama will just focus now on how Mehwish will continue to be a negative, insecure character who ends up pushing Faisal away and Zara gloating at her success – the end! I would love to be proven wrong and have some more substance to this drama. I have finally made peace with Mehwish’s character and Maria Wasti’s acting as the insecure woman wallowing in self pity, destroying the few relationships she has left finally hit home with me today. What did you all make of this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts. For those of us watching Besharam, we know what Wahab Sunaraya thinks of his in laws – would love to hear what he makes of Mehwish and her ‘mentally poor’ clan!

Dumpukht- Atish-e-Ishq Episode 12 Review – Role reversal?

Amongst a cast of stellar performers, Nimmo manages to hold her own with her spontaneous acting and flawless dialogue delivery- “Haroon Bhai kaunsey Salman Khan hain”… she has a keen understanding of her environment and is wise beyond her years even though she’s easily dismissed as being foolish and playful. Bibi seems genuinely excited about the wedding. She has developed a strong bond with Kulsoom and trusts her enough to confide her innermost desires- she beseeches her to make dua so she can bear a child. Kulsoom’s innocence has won Bibi and she believes that her prayers will not go unanswered- isn’t it ironic how the Murshid has become the Mureed? Bibi’s love for Habibullah and her insecurities over losing him to another woman are constantly on her mind. Bibi invited Kulsoom to select her wedding dress and Habibullah couldn’t help but steal glances. Habibullah has made up his mind that he will have the woman he loves even though she’s simply a reminder of his Beena and not someone he loves for who she is. He barely knows her yet what he knows is that he must have her- maybe to compensate for losing Beena?

Although Bibi feels that Habibullah would only remarry for the sake of an heir, finding out that Bibi is expecting doesn’t hinder his determination. What should have been the happiest moment of his life is more an inconvenience because of the sheer timing of the news. Bibi is a smart woman but I fear what Habibullah is capable of at this point where he is once again at crossroads and this time he’s not going to give up.

While Kulsoom has her mayyoun rasm, Wali arranges for Bilal to get intoxicated. Wali has paved the way for Habibullah to marry Kulsoom since Bilal’s disappearance is surely going to be an issue. I felt for Kulsoom knowing that she’s going to be forced to marry her Peer and furthermore she’ll be in Bibi’s bad books. And for Bilal- who has given up everything for her. What a sick, twisted game these two innocent souls have found themselves in! My heart goes out to these two knowing things are only going to get tougher from here on.

Kulsoom looked beautiful as the shy bride and I loved her outfit. Thankfully we were spared from having our eardrums damaged through Tahira’s shrieking as her appearance was minimal. Bibi’s softer side seems to be a temporary phase until such time that Habib declares his decision. I just hope we don’t have a typical dusri Shari fiasco as this drama has been quite intriguing thus far.

Looking forward to next week and curious to see how Habibullah changes his attitude towards Bibi. Or does he? Wonder how he’s going to hide the news of Bibi’s pregnancy and convince her that Kulsoom could be the answer to their prayers…

Until next week… what do you think happens next? Fingers crossed for unpredictability!

Tum Kon Piya Episode 26 Review – Unexpected Twists And Turns

The story took a few unpredictable turns tonight especially because most of the viewers were expecting the play to wrap up soon. Arif lost all his money but did he learn his lesson? Most certainly not! Many of us were expecting this development to bring about the change in his personality which would have ultimately led to an apology but what happened totally was completely different. Arif lost the money, Rania forced him to leave her house and Zarbab is the only family he has now but unfortunately he has learned nothing from all this. He is still the negative and manipulating person he was before. This latest development suggests that the drama is not going to end anytime soon. Yasir Shoro is a very gifted actor who has breathed life into a rather complicated character. He was the perfect choice for playing this role.

Until now Ramish had never intervened in Elma’s married life directly but after finding out that Zarbab and Javeria are having an affair he felt the need to get involved so that he could stop Zarbab from going ahead with his plans. Zarbab’s reaction was shown very realistically. He has always been shown as a very selfish person who finds it impossible to respect people when he does not need anything in return! He never doubted Ramish or Elma before and could not even think about talking to him in the tone he talked to him today but now that Javeria is settled, he has another job and a house he can move in, he feels that he does not need Ramish or Elma like he did before. Elma’s declaration that like a good woman she was going to wait for Zarbab no matter what, was disappointing to say the least! Right now it seems like Elma is destined to be with Zarbab right till the end irrespective of his behavior and actions.

tkp

Once again Sunbal and Ramish have decided to get married. This time around Ramish is more “interested” in this marriage than he was before. The scene in the car went to show that even now Sunbal would have to be flexible and understand that Elma and her sisters will be a constant part of Ramish’s life. The enthusiasm with which Sunbal made plans for getting Neha married also showed that she understood Ramish’s relationship with these sisters.

One of the best things about Tum Kon Piya is that even with slow character development, all the characters always make perfect sense. Arif was always shown as the middle child with an inferiority complex and someone who was always looking for shortcuts. Ramish was always the wise one who made his decisions himself. Zarbab was selfish and a coward. Javeria’s character is the only one which keeps you guessing. Since the viewers do not get an insight into her thoughts therefore no one can be sure whether she is genuinely madly and deeply in love with Zarbab or is playing games.

tkp

The preview of the next episode promised more drama! Tum Kon Piya is still a decent watch even after 26 weeks and keeps you looking forward to more. This was another interesting episode with some very good performances to its credit. So far Tum Kon Piya does not have a lot of messages but it continues to be entertaining.

Dhaani Episode 12 – The Aftermath of The Storm!

0

Ohkay so, this episode of Dhaani was so beautiful & I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I love the way the writer & the director have made sure in the previous episodes that the viewers form a connection with all the characters, because now when they all are going through a heart-break, we can’t help feeling for them. This happens when the writers put a heart & soul into all the characters that they write because that’s when you actually relate to them & their journey.

Dhaani, oh dear, you’re making one mistake after another. Dhaani’s first mistake was that she fell for a guy like Sameer who is immature & doesn’t understand the emotion of love & then her second mistake was agreeing to Amjad’s proposal without even thinking things through. May be Sameer never really put much thought into the fact that he needs a love in his life because all this while, he has been getting so much of attention that he grew comfortable with the idea that he will meet girls, befriend them & move on without having any strings attached. Like I have always said, the only reason why Sameer was intrigued by Dhaani was because of her look out on life. Sameer actually was fascinated by the idea of a girl, belonging to such a different world, having so much of courage & backbone to follow her heart but he never really explored what his heart felt about her.

Dhaani only started speaking to Sameer because she assumed that he was interested in her & will eventually get married to her because if she had known that he was never serious about her, she wouldn’t have given him an edge. Even though I am not a fan of Sameer but he seemed justified in his reaction when out of the blue he heard Dhaani speaking about marriage because it went to show that his attitude was not only like that with Maya but even with Dhaani & all the other girls he must’ve shared a friendship with. Dhaani was wrong rather gullible to think that he was her Mr. Right & he was only showing interest in her because he intended to marry her. That’s where the writer beautifully brought in the difference of perspective of people belonging to two different social classes. I know it can fall into the category of stereotyping but then I don’t really mind because it’s a love story & it is a drama, so for that matter, this is justified. Sameer never really understood & he didn’t even try to understand how much Dhaani was putting at stake for the sake of this friendship. Sameer didn’t even realize that Dhaani had so much of pressure on her & she was actually crossing the line & was exploiting the trust her father & her entire family had in her, why, because he belongs to such a social class where parents don’t put such pressures on their children. Sameer has lived his life like a free bird, that is why he couldn’t understand Dhaani’s harsh reaction & didn’t really get where she was coming from. Dhaani on the other hand believed that this relationship actually was a serious commitment for Sameer because she couldn’t even conceive of the fact that a random guy, who gave her his phone & who was going out of the way to spend time with her would just want to be her ‘friend’ & nothing else.

Well, Dhaani was forced to wake up & smell the coffee & when she realized that everything was a mistake & a farce, her dreams & her expectations were shattered. I loved the conversation Dhaani had with her sister, where in stead of blaming Sameer, she realized her mistake & said that she is mad at herself for doing everything for Sameer whereas she wasn’t his someone special. Dhaani is immature that is why in a weak moment, she agreed to Amjad’s proposal. I loved the scene that the entire family shared where Kaleem told Dhaani how she made him happy & Bee Jee tried to console her that she wasn’t going to leave this house immediately. I just loved that scene because it showed how decent, simple & humble Kaleem’s entire family was. They are very decent & simple people who still believe in keeping their word & till date give preference to ethics & morals.

Well, I liked the fact that after seeing Dhaani’s reaction & telling her what his thoughts were, Sameer’s heart wasn’t at ease. I loved how the tables have turned because first it was Dhaani who had a heart-break & now it was Sameer’s turn. Sameer was restless all this time & it looked like it was for the first time that Sameer was forced to explore what was in his heart & when he reflected, he realized that it was only Dhaani who could make him understand why he was feeling a certain way. Sameer’s family has finalized his & Maya’s marriage, but now I am looking forward to the time when Sameer will take a stand.

I loved the entire conversation that Raja & his friends had, it just showed how for people belonging to humble backgrounds, the emotions matter the most. Where Sameer’s family was using Sameer as a step for social climbing & were treating his marriage as a business deal, where they were thinking of melting people’s heart by conducting his engagement ceremony in interiors of the city & where they all seemed so superficial & emotionally absent materialistic robots, there were these guys who had nothing but compassion for each other & were worried for their friend Raja because they all were in touch with their emotional side. It was beautiful!

Overall, this entire episode of Dhaani was like a roller-coaster ride, it had emotions, it had drama, it had some amazing conversations & some very important realizations that were long due. Madiha Imam has done wonders as Dhaani & I think the casting director should take a bow for such a brilliant casting of all the actors as they all are doing a wonderful job. The director has given a perfect feel to this drama because where there’s so much of warmth in the scenes of Dhaani’s family, the family of Sameer seems so cold & everyone seems quite self-absorbed. The writer has done a brilliant job & has brought all these emotions & realities in such a perfect way. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Dhaani.

Cheers,

Analysis of Coke Studio 9! Too many cooks spoil the broth

0

Coke Studio Pakistan without any doubt played a huge role in reviving our music industry which is still in deficit. Coke Studio is popular for creating fusion and blending different genre of music. Coke Studio Pakistan was first devised by Maestro Rohail Hayatt and he produced it until season 6. Rohail Hayatt Music Composition expertise had taken this Juggernaut of Music to whole new level. This Music Genius is largely credited for fusing impeccably different genre of music into one song. Rohail definitely made waves with his stint in Coke Studio, due to this “We want Rohail Back” became some sort of a popular slogan now in every season of coke studio. I may not be able express the level of Coke Studio established by Rohail Hayatt but if you listen to songs like “Jugni” “chori chori by Meesha Shafi” “Ishq aap bhe awalla by Meesha Shafi and Chakwal Group” “Panchi by Jal and QB” “Yaar Daddi Ishq aatish by Ali Zafar” “charkha Nolakha by atif and Umair” “Saari raat by Noori” “Aik Alif by saeen zahoor and Noori” “Jal Pari by Atif” “Rung by Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad” you will come to know why Coke Studio Pakistan become a signature fusion music platform.

After Producing 5 successful seasons Rohail failed to enthral audience in Season6. The Idea to encompass international musicians didn’t functioned at all. After Season 6 the production was handover to Strings. Strings received heavy criticism from audience when they produced season 7, surely the essence of coke studio lost all of a sudden and it was evident that experimenting is not Strings’ thing. It is true that most of the performances in Season 7 are simple flat renditions and not up to Coke Studio’s Standard. If we try to recall Season 7 only two songs knock our memory “Chaap Tilak” and “Tum Naraaz ho”

Strings took criticism in a constructive way and that’s why Season 8 was a mighty hit. The notion to include big names like Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, Ali Azmat and QB clasped audience attention. Almost all performances from season 8 received heavy acclaims. Special mentions of season 8 are “Tajdar-e-haram” by atif “Sammi meri waar” by QB and Umair “Man amad-e-am” by Gul Panra and Atif “Bewajah” by Nabeel and “Hina Ki Khushboo” by Asim and Samra.

Season 8 confidently restored faith in Coke Studio and expectations were high this year. However Strings got another plan which results in utter failure. They decided to bring 6 Music directors so that spectators can witness more diversity in music. Strings assumed that this initiative will spellbind viewers but it came out as unqualified disappointment. Hence the result of Season 9 was “too many cooks spoil the broth”.

So what are the main reasons of Season 9 failure in comparison with Season 8?

1. First of all there was hardly any fusion in each rendition except “Paar Chanah”. Most of the Songs were simple flat executions and below par. It seemed like music directors were trying to make use of every musical instrument.

2. We have indeed listened to different flavours of music but there was hardly any creativity. If you listen closely to songs while your eyes are shut, you will automatically grade most of the performances as average. Few Songs like “Aja Morey Saiyaan” “Dil Ruba” “Paar Chanah” “Baliye (Laung Gawacha)” “Shamaan Pai Gaiyan/Kee Dum da bharosa” proved to be coke studio material . The version of “Rang” performed by Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad in Season 5 was far better than Rahat’s and Amjad’s one, bluntly saying Coke Studio this time cashed Amjad Sabri’s death and released his rendition in the end so that viewers can follow each and every episode right till the end.

3. The cast lacked Quality I was hoping for star studded performances like previous season, on the contrary I have witnessed most of the singers for the very first time in my life for example Natasha Khan, Nirmal Roy, Jabar Abbas, Basit Ali, Damia Faaroqi etc. I wish they have invested in big names instead of music directors duh!

4. Strings are well aware of dedicated “Tharak” our nation comprehends, they experienced it last year with Gul Panra. Hence this time they use Mominah like a Cash Cow giving her three songs in one season. The overuse of Mominah was simply annoying. Rachel deserved more songs because she is continuously serving this platform for last six seasons as backing vocalist or in either case Aima Baig would be a better choice.

5. Coke Studio was popular for picking old Pakistani tracks and fusing it with different genre of music. The experiment to construct music around 60% new songs and 40% old tracks also failed big time.

So who remained the Most Successful Music Director?

In terms of Music Direction in my opnion only Noori, and Jaffer Zaidi did a good job. Shiraz Uppal, Shani Arshad, Faakhir and Shuja Haider might be a good music composer but creating fusion is not their thing.

Noori definitely cleaned sweep this season, they presented every flavour of Music with Fusion. Whether talk about “Aja Morey Saiyyan” “Baliye (Laung Gawacha)” “Paar Chanah” “O Re” every performance is mesmerising. Specially “Paar Chanah” restored my faith in Coke Studio and reminded me of Rohail’s Era.

Next is Jaffer for “Janay na tu” “Uddi Ja”and “Lagi Bina/ Challa Mele Noon Challiye”. I wish Faakhir had performed in earlier seasons but it’s good he was finally called by Coke Studio, however he is not a good music director at all. Only “Dil Ruba” and “Afreen Afreen” are good.

Shani Arshad, Shiraz and Shuja failed to mesmerize me with their music compositions. Their compositions might work in Drama or Film OSTs but surely not for Coke Studio.

So what audience liked the most?

Season 9 proved to be a total disappointment, I hope strings will come out with some better plan in next season but for sure they are destroying essence of coke studio which Rohail had established in his era. So what are your views on Season 9?

Besharam Episode 20 – Sheer Brilliance!

Ohkay so, another week & another brilliant episode of Besharam. I must thank the writer for balancing everything so nicely in this drama. All the characters that started off with some negativity have now changed because the times have changed. What I love the most about this drama is that the writer didn’t make all the characters purely black & white, in stead she kept them very realistic & showed their transition as their circumstances changed, which is commendable & shows the intelligence of the writer here!

Wahab Sunyara got a lot of screen time in this episode & I thoroughly enjoyed watching him. Malik Raza has really given a new dimension to this character & I don’t think any other actor would’ve done justice to this character like he has. Wahab’s character needed to look as realistic as possible without looking OTT & Malik Raza has done exactly just that, for which I appreciate his phenomenal acting. Wahab doesn’t leave an opportunity to let his in-laws know who he is & what he is capable of. I also love the fact that Wahab calls himself paindu but he endorses that label as a badge of honor because he is honest & he has achieved so much in life that he just doesn’t feel the need to prove anything to anyone & if there’s one thing he doesn’t understand, that is superficiality because Wahab himself is one original piece & I truly respect his originality!

Isn’t it amazing that the writer has shown us such an amazing couple that discusses each & every single detail with each other? Now that Haider’s political career is in full swing, Mishi is feeling a little guilty because she knows that people will be using her name to bring Haider down. I loved the fact that Mishi & Haider, both are at such a comfort level with each other that they don’t mind sharing their insecurities. Mishi felt that may be one day Haider will give up & he will get tired of hearing the same thing again & again he will be done explaining himself, that is why she straight away told him what she was going through. Haider on the other hand also had this insecurity that may be, Mishi will get tired of Haider’s lifestyle & his values, for which she might also leave, but it was such a beautiful thing to see that two people who were feeling a little insecure assured each other that they were going to stay. Haider has already changed & he has started to deal with the insults with a lot more maturity because he knows that this is what people are going to use against him, so in stead of reacting, he has to learn to give them a shutup call!

Manan has already proposed to Humna & it seems that Humna will agree, I am sure Mishi will convince her so yes, the marriage of Humna & Manan is on cards. I like the fact that even though Manan is young, he is independent & he can make such decisions by himself. He liked Humna, so he decided to get married to her & he didn’t care what his mother will think despite knowing exactly what opinion Sara holds about Haider’s entire family.

Well, Qadeer’s girlfriend made an appearance & just an interaction with her was enough for Sikandar & Shakira to know that they were not only wrong in judging Mishi but they also made a huge mistake by calling Humna & Qadeer’s engagement off. This is the main reason why I never really disliked Sikandar & Shakira because they were a very realistic portrayal of those very typical & judgmental relatives who don’t hold back in judging people wrongly & who always take pride in their upbringing. Sikandar & Shakira were just a couple of misapprehended people who thought that their kids were free of faults & they had a full control on destiny but now when things have started to unravel, they don’t mind admitting their mistakes. I think this quality makes them look very genuine that in the past when they didn’t stop from misjudging Khadija’s family, now in the present they are not stopping themselves from accepting their faults as well.

Even though I am excited to see how Haider will make a name for himself in the field of politics, I really hope that Asfand doesn’t exploit Haider’s zest & passion for his personal benefits. Haider’s association with Asfand’s party has already strengthened it a great deal, but somehow the way Asfand used the monetary incentive to divert Haider’s attention made me a little suspicious of his motives. Even though Asfand has guided Haider in the right direction so far, it looks like now he is also ready to use Mishal’s name to cause a dent in CM’s reputation & that is the main reason why he is giving a free-hand to Haider & has given him so much of authority already. I really hope that like all the previous speculations, the writer proves us wrong & shows that Asfand’s intentions were never to use Haider & he is an honest politician who only believes in truth & honesty, but this is what I felt & I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us when it comes to Haider’s political career.

This entire episode was beautiful. I love love love the acting of all the actors & the direction of this drama. The story is so beautifully written that even though it pretty much revolves around reality, it still has shown us everything in such a positive light. I also love the timely humor that has been added in the drama because it makes things a lot more interesting & engaging. I found myself laughing at so many dialogues & reactions, like ‘larki ke shikaar ki party’ & ‘atay hue AC bhi le ana’ & also the way Saba was amused at the way Qadeer’s girlfriend was treating Shakira, haha! What I love about the comedy in this drama is that it seems very effortless & it shows that the dialogue writer has a great sense of humor which always is an added bonus for a viewer like me. I love Mishi & Haider’s relationship & I love seeing them discussing all the minute details with so much of honesty. They are a team & they are a couple who believes in strengthening their relationship, that is why where Mishi shares everything with him about her family, Haider tells her everything about his job too. The ring scene was actually quite sweet, both Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed have made the relationship of Mishi & Haider a very memorable aspect of this drama & I can’t praise the entire team of Besharam enough for giving us such a beautiful journey. Please share your thoughts about this amazing episode of Besharam.

A commenter said to Mahira Khan “apko india se abhi danday nahi paray”

Mahira Khan is on the direct hit of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena controversy. Her Bollywood debut release is also approaching and MNS is threatening that they will not let the film release due to the presence of Pakistani actress.

As the haters are commenting, Mahira is all set to handle them!

Lately a person made a very rude and stupid comment on a photography of Mahira and her son.

Saami786 said, “apko india se abhi danday nahi paray”.

Mahira, gave the guy a very perfect answer “aap ko apni ammi say parhe hotay toh iss tara ki bakwaas nahi kehte.

mahira-post

The commenter, was a guy who belonged to Pakistan and criticized Mahira for working in Pakistan but soon Mahira friends gave him detailed answers for all his questions.

Few messages from Mahira’s Fans are mentioned below, have a look.

Suboohiii said, “Hey Mahira, such a lovely pic. So proud of you, babe. Big fan from across the border. We are all loving [Pakistani] dramas insanely. Don’t react to those fools, love. Haters gonna hate anyway. You are doing it all right… [Those Muslims who criticise you for your actions need to examine their own behaviour first.] May Allāh bless you with more success throughout life.”

‘Enchantress’ stressed that her fans from both sides of the border, should put their differences aside: “To be honest being an Indian i feel ashamed that people of our country have such a mentality. We shouldn’t have any kinda ill feelings for anyone specially the people who haven’t caused any kind of harm to us. They are not to blamed for anything just because of the country they reside in. I do agree that both India and Pakistan share hostile relationships but just give it a thought that whats the difference between all of us. We bleed the same colour, we have the same kind of food, we live on the same planet earth and we breathe in the same air. So please rather playing a blame game learn to respect and appreciate artists for their work and not say anything which is unacceptable and blame them for deeds of other people.”

Harinder Jeet said, “So unfortunate to see people bashing each other on a beautiful mother-son photograph. Let no one’s hatred affect you, Mahira. You have many admirers and your hard work and dedication to your work will keep inspiring us.” :)

Sanam Episode 03 – Aan’s Mother; The Only Good Thing About Sanam!

Ohkay so, I am glad I took my dose of panadol before watching this drama because now when the episode has ended, I am sure the headache would’ve doubled & the reasons are self-explanatory. I am trying really really hard to warm up to the characters but somehow I don’t feel that they have a lot of depth in them. While watching Sanam, I feel that I am just watching a drama which doesn’t have much to it; nor in terms of story neither in terms of characters but I still am not giving up. One thing that definitely grew on me is the OST, I really like it & I am glad there’s an addition of one more thing that I like about this drama.

Well, I believe that Harib should act like a man & he should stop relying on Shehroz for all the petty problems that he is facing right now. Harib chose to get married to Aila on his own terms, then he should deal with his baggage himself. Harib himself saw how Shehroz was the one who insinuated everything, so it was actually quite odd that Harib once again tried to seek Shehroz’s help in this matter too. Even though Shehroz came to help Harib, the moment Harib left, Shehroz answered all of Aila’s irrelevant questions, whereas if he came with an intention of helping his friend, he should’ve avoided the entire conversation. I don’t think Shehroz had any reasons to reply to every question that Aila posed about Harib’s ex-girlfriend. Also, Harib seems to be missing the point here, it wasn’t Shehroz because of whom Aila was reacting like that, she had an ‘episode’ after she heard everything about Sara from him.

I was actually quite relieved to know that the doctor, without running any tests & without having any proper sessions with Aila miraculously diagnosed that she is suffering from bipolar disorder. It was good that he even suggested that Aila should go through psychotherapy, which actually made me believe that Harib will now try to understand his wife but nope, he chose not to budge. It seems that where Aila is unconsciously suffering from a bipolar disorder, Harib is suffering from self-pity, that is why he has this ‘bechari’ look pasted on his face in all the scenes. Harib said that he has been studying Aila’s behavior for quite some time now, so it again brings me to my point where I fail to believe that Aila never really showed this side of hers to Harib before their marriage.

Well, surprise surprise, Aila not only has a mother but she has a step-father too. Aila also has an uncle & an aunt & also a cousin who she was engaged to. Well, after seeing them I am wondering what took Aila’s family so long to make an appearance? Please don’t tell me that they will be showing up according to their or the director’s convenience? The entire conversation that happened in that scene was so out of the place because usually, such things are discussed & spoken about before the couple gets married. Aila’s mother declared that they are ‘kharay & sachay log’, so where was their ‘sachai’ when Harib was planning on getting married to Aila? It looked that Aila’s entire family was waiting for her to get married to a ‘bechara’, only to tell him later that his wife has some mental issues & now he has to deal with it for the rest of his life. The entire time Aila’s family tried hard to let us know that they take Harib as their son & they think of him as their family member but the lack of chemistry between all the characters that were posing to be a family was quite visible. Well, I know it will come as a shock or surprise (depends on your perspective) but I liked Aila in this episode, I will repeat I liked Aila & not Hareem Farooq in this episode. I liked how she made a come back at her uncle & told him that his son wasn’t worth it. Once again, Harib looked totally surprised when he found out about Aila’s engagement, which shouldn’t have been the case because they have told us time & again that they were in love & spent quite some time with each other before getting married so I am not sure why are they trying to imply that Aila FOOLED Harib by completely hiding everything from him & then got married to him? Another thing that I liked about Aila was how she apologized to Harib, whereas it should’ve been Harib assuring her again & again that she is fine & there’s nothing wrong with her, but our hero sahab chose to tell his wife that she is a ‘psychopath’…so much of compassion for your wife even when you know that she is bipolar, right!

Well, I honestly thought that after the diagnosis, the writer will stir some sympathy towards Aila but it looked like she is trying hard to attribute all the bad habits to her. In the previous episodes, they told us that Aila has no control on herself, she is paranoid, she is ‘shukki’ & in this episode, they showed that she was ‘jhooti’ as well because she conveniently lied to Shehroz that nothing was wrong between her & Harib. Also another thing that they showed was that Aila was openly threatening her husband & she hit him too. Matlab, koi aur burai reh gai hai aisi jo ke Aila mai na ho? Oh & yes, the biggest burai I forgot to mention, she also doesn’t know how to ‘cook’, my goodness, itni buri hai Aila? :/

Khurram & his mother’s scenes didn’t spark an interest but what actually did was the coverage that Aan’s mothers got. I actually found myself giggling at her dialogues; ‘heart attack aya tha, saath le ke chala gaya’ & ‘moochain dekh ke wo log shajra nikal lainge’, lol, she is funny & she is so cute. I really enjoyed watching Aan’s mother & everything that she is doing to get her daughter married. The way she spoke to the branch manager & told him about Aan’s proposal was hilarious too, I like her for the fact that she is brutally honest & so very simple. All hearts for Aan’s mother!

Well, I must say the only time I actually felt that Harib (read OKB) was a bechara was when Aila (read Hareem Farooq) was hitting him hard, I am sure after that scene OKB must’ve had some bruises on his skin. Hareem Farooq tried really hard to bring out some emotion but it just didn’t work. She ended up staining Aan’s reputation & now I am sure Harib will make it his duty to compensate for everything that his wife said & that will lay the foundation of Harib & Aan’s union. This episode was strictly alright, as much as the lead pair should be running the show, it is Hina Bayat who has overruled everyone & even the photo of Shaukat Qureshi is enough to spark a humor & start a conversation. I must say, I love Maya Ali’s outfits, she is rocking them & she looks stunning. The precap of the next episode suggested that Harib will find a mother in Aan’s mother & he will now become a part of their family which will give him all the more reasons to be close to them. Honestly speaking, I don’t think by slightly touching on the fact that Aila was ‘bipolar’ the writer did any justice to the actual issue because Harib seemed a little too pre-occupied with his own bechargi & the focus of the director seemed to be on everything else rather than on Aila’s psychological issues. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sanam.

Cheers,

Nitin Kakkar Refuses that Fawad Khan is not Part of his Film Yet!

0

The political unrest between both the countries Pakistan and India has scared the Indian director Nitin Kakkar. As he is now denying that he has not signed Fawad Khan for his next film which is being produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films.

The Indian Express has revealed that Nitin Kakkar said, “I haven’t signed Fawad. I have read the news in papers which is surprising because I haven’t signed Fawad yet. I am doing a film for Salman Khan’s production and B.R. Chopra’s co-production. We are meeting several actors. Nothing has been signed yet or put to paper yet.”

The most interesting thing to be noted is that many Papers published that Nitin is engaging Fawad for his upcoming project and Nitin did not made any comment immediately that it is not true. But now as things has got worse between the two countries Nitin has clearly refused that he has not taken Fawad in the film.

When Nitin was asked that Papers are saying opposite to what he is saying, Nitin said, “Someone over enthusiastic wrote that. I am not making any urban love story with Fawad Khan. Nothing like that. We are still in the process of casting actors. Nothing concrete yet. And as soon as someone is signed, we will also announce. Right now speculations are being made.”

First Video Song of the Film Lahore Se Agey is Out!

The much awaited sequel of Karachi Se Lahore , “Lahore se Agey” is under production. The film is a Pakistani road-comedy directed and produced by Wajahat Rauf and is written by Yasir Hussain. The film will be starring Saba Qamar and Yasir Hussain in the lead roles. The film is scheduled for release on November 11, 2016 under the production banner of Showcase Productions.

Lately the first Video song of the film “Kalabaaz” is released. The song is featuring Saba Qamar , Yasir Hussain and Atiqa Odho. The song looks quite similar to the Bollywood number “Ghaagra” from the film “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” The set, costumes and main idea are quite close to that Indian song.

But on a positive note, I believe it will attract that audience which are fans of Bollywood films. Saba Qamar is looking very glamorous in her beautiful outfit. The song is well choreographed, Yasir Hussain is also looking nice.Watch the video below.
