“I first took break because of my marriage, at that time I had to prove my self a good housewife, it was my priority, I left showbiz on peak and now I started from mothers’ roles, and I am not enjoying at all because of bad work, I think have quit the showbiz because I am not happy with the current dramas at all , I cant even watch these dramas , I am sorry. Pakistani dramas are not of my type, I watch international shows”.

Heavy advertisement and good cast can attract the audience at first but if the storyline makes no sense or plot is weak then the drama will fail to hook up audience. Let me give you a proper example here drama “Mujhe Khuda pe Yaqeen hai” credit goes to me as I haven’t watched even one episode of it, however by the efforts of HUM-TV this drama is nominated in HUM Awards yes we all know that in previous year HUM was full of crap so they got no choice but to nominate this idiotic play.
Anyways coming back to our main topic surely story creates interest but writer has to make sure that the story will not drift away from its original plot and this is something happening in drama “Shukk”. Usually story develops gradually as drama proceeds episode by episode this is a good old tactic by writers as it creates a sort of curiosity that what is the actual story of this drama. However I don’t know about the others but in some dramas I have noticed that the whole story is developed on one event and that particular event raises a question that if that would not had happened then what will be the story?. This not a new tactic but now this tactic is being used by most of the writers to create some suspense from the beginning of the story rather than creating interest gradually.
Therefore I decided to present you a list of some recent and current dramas in which this tactic had been used. So here is the following list
Daam: We all know that drama very well this the most awesome story by Umera Ahmed. This drama can surely clarify all sorts of misunderstandings and problems that we face in real life. So in the story of Daam if Maliha would not have seen Junaid’s locket hanging around Zara’s neck or if Junaid would not have told Maliha about the necklace then how story would have progressed. Then probably Junaid could have easily married Zara and we will not learn all that stuff that this drama had taught us. So the story was hanged on one event and that was Maliha’s eye contact with Zara’s locket. Definitely how selfish Maliha was she had destroyed her brother’s life for her own sake.
Kankar: So talking about this drama Kiran had gone through a difficult phase of her life which had allowed her to transform herself from a careless girl to a responsible and brave girl. Her fighting against all conspiracies was indeed interesting and that’s the only reason I was hooked up with this drama. In this story Kiran was firstly married to Sikander and just because she entered in Sikandar’s room by mistake to get ready for her cousin’s mehndi. A very unfortunate moment indeed as Sikandar fell in love with her. So if Kiran would not had entered in his room that means sikander would got married easily with Aarzoo at first place by respecting her mother’s choice and Kiran’s family would have lived happily.
Shukk: Talking about this current drama and asking that when this drama will end. Seriously a great story destroyed and just because of one common reason dragging. Few weeks before I could not stop myself from appreciating this drama and now this drama is just going in a drain. Anyways the whole situation in the story was formed just because of two events. One was when Roomi throws a ball in Ehtishaam’s house, so If roomi would not have thrown a ball then sehrish would not take ehtishaam to saniya’s house and ehtishaam and Saniya would never know that they are living in same area and Ehtishaam would not have taken a foolish step by telling Atif that he was previously engaged with Saniya and atif and her wife would not have created the shukk. The second event which had created the main spark in the story that was Saniya getting a job in Ehtishaam’s office as her project assistant. So the story hangs between on these two events.
Aunn Zara: Ahh a true masterpiece of 2013 no matter how many times you watch this drama you just can’t get enough of it. This was the best story ever by Faiza Iftikhar something new and fresh. So Aunn and Zara trying to escape attention of their families got married accidently with each other as both of their friends advised that marriage is the only solution to their problem. So how Aunn got married to Zara and that is just because of a snapshot having Zara and Aunn together which was accidently taken by Manzar. If Manzar would not have said cheese while taking a picture then zara would not get attentive to look towards Manzar while sitting beside Aunn.
Aasmano pe likha: I only watched this drama just because of sajjal ali’s great acting otherwise there were variety of characters which will give you tensions and irritation. The whole drama stands clearly on one event and that was Aaliyan attending Qudsia’s marriage and as soon as he enters the marriage hall Qudsia became her wife to be honest I didn’t found that twist logical how can an educated person signs nikah papers to save himself from people’s bashing and he had taken this Nikah as an adventure are you kidding me. So if Aaliyan would not have attended the marriage ceremony on request of his father then I must story would be much better :-D
Muhabbat Subah Ka Sitara Hai: In my point of view this is the weakest plot by Umera Ahmed I missing that charm in her stories which was until drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai. So the story begins from one event and that event was Romaissa’s interview and Nabeel’s accidental presence during her interview. If Nabeel’s printer would had been working fine that means he would never enter in interview office for some printing and would not notice Romaissa’s interview and Romaissa would not have been selected and then you know how the story progressed. So the story builds up on one event which was Nabeel’s presence during Romaissa’s interview.
Ranjish Hi Sahi: Talking about current drama and their storyline this drama wins the race for best current storyline and plot bravo to Maha Malick for writing such a wonderful story. This is the only drama where 20 episodes have been finished but I have never seen a single bit of dragging in the story instead the interest is generating episode by episode and still there are many twists to be unfold. After daam this drama had touched my heart. Anyways so a story begins from one event but the whole story was not hanging only on one event only. The event was accidental meeting of Kamal Hassan with Yumna Hashmi at her boutique and if they had not met each other then I will guarantee Yumna’s life would not be miserable and she might have not died.

Mere Pass Tum Ho has given the viewers so much to talk about. We can’t stop talking about the characters and how the story might turn out. Now what if Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar wasn’t the one who wrote the drama but some other famous writer would have written the script. We are pretty sure the story and characters would be different then! Khalil-ur-Rehman is dead against unfaithful people. In his world, there is no forgiveness for women or men who are unfaithful. He also has different philosophies about love which are part of all his scripts. Most writers explore more than just love in their dramas therefore had they written this drama, it would have been different. Mere Pass Tum Ho is a hit no doubt just the way it is but what if it was written by one of the other famous writers?
Here is how we think the story would have been like had it been written by some other famous drama writers in the industry.
Umera Ahmed
Umera Ahmed always shows her leading ladies as resilient, compromising and positive women. They are not always strong problem solvers but they are also not negative. Men most often are the weak ones in Umera Ahmed’s stories, they are the ones who make mistakes and there is some element of spiritualism in her stories. So if she had written Mere Pass Tum Ho, here is what would have happened.
Mehwish would have Danish’s personality traits…a dotting wife who would have given the marriage her very best.
Danish would have Mehwish’s characteristics…greedy, immature and not committed enough.
Mehwish’s mother-in-law and perhaps her best friend Anoushey would play a big role in separating the couple.
Danish would have left Mehwish for a woman just as clever as Shehwar but they would have been married….that woman could be Hania.
That woman would have made Danish’s life hell after he left Mehwish for her.
There would have been no divorce between Mehwish and Danish.
Mehwish would turn to Allah, live a simple life and raise her son Rumi to be an exemplary yet unfulfilled life because of the absence of his father.
Towards the end Danish would come begging to Mehwish and she would have forgiven him because she will be spiritually so strong that she will understand the sanctity of the nikkah and forgiveness is much more than taking revenge.

Faiza Iftikhar
Faiza Iftikhar’s writing style is also loved by many viewers. Her heroines are smart and strong-headed women who are definitely problem solvers. Her leading men can be flawed in many ways but there is always something likable about them. Faiza Iftikhar’s characters are full of surprises. What if Faiza Iftikhar had written Mere Pass Tum Ho? Well, here is what we think would have happened.
Mehwish and Danish would have had an arranged/forced marriage.
Mehwish would have been a mix of intelligent and headstrong.
Danish would be a mature man who would try to win his wife over but would give her enough time to decide things on her own.
The whole drama would have revolved around how Mehwish and Danish eventually fall in love.
There would definitely be some family involved!
Shehwar would have been Mehwish’s ex-fiancé who left her for someone else but came back into her life after her marriage.
In the end, Mehwish would be the one who would save the relationship after she falls head over heels in love with her husband.

Farhat Ishtiaq
Farhat Ishtiaq is another leading drama writer who has her own writing style. Her dramas often have a mystery of element about them. There is also some crime involved and the characters have a lot of conflicts. If she had written Mere Pass Tum Ho, the characters would have had more of a background and the man was likely to be more flawed than the woman. Farhat Ishtiaq also incorporates some social message in her drama therefore that would have been a must too! So here is how we think Mere Pass Tum Ho’s characters and stories would have turned out had it been written by Farhat Ishtiaq.
Danish would have been a man on a mission, someone who had lost a loved one tragically.
Danish and Mehwish wouldn’t have been married but they would have met somewhere and their backgrounds in some way would have been connected.
The entire story would have revolved around Danish and Mehwish’s conflicts but at the same time they would have achieved something in life.
Once they would have gotten married Shehwar would have entered the scenario as the killer of someone close to Danish.
Shehwar would have had a terrible ending, Danish’s internal turmoil would eventually be sorted out and Mehwish would stay a strong character till the end even after going through a lot.
There would be more side tracks too involving Shehwar and how he took over the business of the person he killed.
Dramas like Bin Roye, Udaari, Yakeen Ka Safar and Yeh Dil Mera definitely suggest that Farhat Ishtiaq would have taken the story to a completely different direction.
What do you think how would Mere Pass Tum Ho’s story would have been if one of these iconic writers had written the drama? While Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s drama rely on heavy dialogues and emotions, there are some other writers who are relatively more subtle. Also, Mere Pass Tum Ho has the central characters but they have no background or family. All the three writers mentioned in this article wouldn’t create a drama with such characters. Umera Ahmed, Faiza Iftikhar and Farhat Ishtiaq always have different tracks in their drama which are related but sometimes all these tracks have their own individual standing as well. One thing is for sure, Mehwish wouldn’t have been as negative a character as she is if one of these writers had written the script.

Humayun Saeed’s drama serial Meray Paas Tum Ho was a cult classic; a drama that built itself a loyal fan following. Meray Paas Tum Ho became so big and popular amongst the audience that its last episode was screened in cinemas across Pakistan, breaking records all over. The last episode aired on 25th January but as it seems, even a month and a half after Meray Paas Tum Ho has ended, people still are under its spell and want to know if there could be a sequel to it or not.
In a recent interview with Waseem Badami, Humayun Saeed was asked if there could be a sequel for Meray Paas Tum Ho. Upon the question, Humayun Saeed said there could be and if it would happen, he would again want Khalil ur Rehman Qamar to write the script for it because he was a wonderful writer.
In various other questions Humayun Saeed said that he never thought there was anything wrong with the script of Meray Paas Tum Ho and he didn’t find it degrading towards women at all. Regarding the famous “2 takay ki larki” dialogue, Humayun said that the dialogue was just simple and didn’t intend to demean women because it was spoken aptly in the situation. “We use this dialogue in a number of situations and it was the same in Meray Paas Tum Ho. However, because it was spoken in a tense situation, the audience picked it up.”

Drama serial Idiot endeavored to encapsulate numerous themes. However, in its attempt to cover a multitude of topics, Idiot may have taken on more than it could seamlessly navigate. While the creators of the drama undoubtedly approached their project with admirable sincerity, the execution faltered when it came to providing entertainment and maintaining a focused approach. Idiot met the same fate as Nauroz, both these drama serials had a lot of potential but their subject matters were all over the place. By the middle of the drama, these themes became so extensive that it was difficult for me to fully grasp and make sense of them.
Idiot Main Story and Theme
From the onset, the writer skillfully articulated the concept of ‘idiot’ in the drama through the unconventional protagonist, Gulzar. Even as a young kid, Gulzar was portrayed as markedly distinct from his peers. The lack of acceptance from his father and the intense animosity from his brother not only reinforced his outsider status but also accentuated the depth of his isolation. Buddy was his only true friend throughout his journey with his daadi and school friend helping him feel less alienated in the early years.
At the start, it seemed the story would focus on the societal challenges faced by individuals like Gulzar. However, as Gulzar matured, his role as a ‘fixer’ emerged, dramatically altering the course of the story. Gulzar’s story and its nuances had the potential for greater intrigue if only it had been presented with a more seamless flow and a more refined treatment.
Another important track in the story had to be that of Rida’s played beautifully by the newcomer Aleeza Rahim. One of the most noteworthy elements of the drama was Rida’s connection with Gulzar and how the writer employed her character to shed light on an aspect of human trafficking rarely explored in typical dramas. Similar to the other tracks in the drama, this particular track was also stretched until the very end, leaving Rida’s relationship with her parents insufficiently explored, especially from her perspective.
Idiot opened with Gulzar scrutinizing minor imperfections in his surroundings, and each new episode delved into a new perspective on the flaws within the social structure through Gulzar’s story. I must admit that these constant reality checks made the drama a little too dark and depressing, but then I guess that is how the director intended it to be.
Saadat’s hatred towards his brother and Gulzar’s parent’s inability to deal with the situation properly was also an important part of the drama. I feel that if this part of the story was highlighted more than others, Gulzar’s track could have been more personalized and meaningful.
The End
Idiot’s ending aligned seamlessly with its primary narrative, asserting that individuals such as Gulzar have no place in a society plagued by corruption. Nevertheless, considering the viewers’ investment in witnessing Gulzar’s hardships since the first episode, there was room for a resolution that offered a more positive trajectory.
It was however good to see Gulzar’s efforts being celebrated after his death. He left a legacy that was not going to die with him. It was also gratifying watching Gulzar reunite with Nobody. Although the overall tone of the ending remained melancholic, it did offer glimpses of uplifting moments and resolution. Gulzar’s journey was not as engaging as that of Parizaad but he did leave an impression. He personified the spirit of the few ‘idiots’ within our society who are steadfastly committed to effecting change even when confronted with an unrelenting tide of opposition.
Rameen’s character also came through in the end even though her unrealistic expectations from a husband who did not promise her any of that annoyed me as a viewer for the most part.
Certain characters were also inadequately developed, lacking the depth and nuance essential for a more comprehensive portrayal. This treatment detracted from the overall richness and complexity that could have been achieved with more thorough exploration and development. Gulzar’s relationship with his parents is an example of this weakness in the script. Saadat’s unrestrained negativity and his actions both in childhood and later years could readily be classified as sociopathic behavior. Surprisingly, the narrative refrained from presenting these traits as such, thereby missing an opportunity to highlight the implications of his character’s sociopath tendencies. His remorse in the end failed to resonate with me because I think that more fitting consequences were warranted for his actions.
Final Remarks
Idiot had immense potential, yet its numerous weaknesses prevented it from achieving blockbuster status or earning the critical acclaim it could have garnered. The makers tried to address too many issues in a single series and the treatment given to the drama overall was not up to the mark. The writing, production values, and the direction fell short. While the majority of the actors delivered commendable performances, there were certain supporting actors whose weak portrayals made it challenging to take their roles seriously. Ahmed Ali Akbar certainly deserves recognition for consistently selecting unconventional projects and dedicating his best efforts to them.

I think countless readers and drama viewers can relate to it because there are numerous times when we find ourselves wishing or thinking how a particular male and female lead will look together in a play. Our industry is full of artists who are very gifted. Our directors and producers also experiment with different kinds of on screen couples all the time. Gone are the days when an on screen couple was a hit with the viewers, it was seen over and over again because their presence alone guaranteed that people will watch a drama. If that was the case then we would have seen Mahira and Fawad Khan, Sanam Baloch and Fawad Khan on screen together again and again. Nowadays, the trend has reversed. When an on screen couple is as big a hit as Khirad and Asher and Bano and Hassan then the directors and producers want that those memories should stay in people’s mind and do not show the same actors and actresses together in different dramas. Based on this new trend of experimenting with different leads, I am going to give some ideas of which male and female lead will look good together based on my own likes and dislikes of course.
Fawad Khan and Syra Yusef
Fawad Khan is older than Syra but he can still pass for a college boy if given the right make over. I really like both Fawad and Syra. Ideally I would like to see them in a romantic comedy; something like AunnZara because Syra has proved already that she is really good at doing comic characters and Fawad Khan and his fans need a break from all the serious roles that he has been doing.

Sami Khan and Sanam Baloch
The other day I saw a picture of Sami Khan and Sanam Baloch, they looked great together. Both of them are exceptional actors even though Sami Khan is wasting himself in roles that don’t bring out the best in him but that doesn’t change the fact that he is a very gifted actor. Sanam Baloch has always maintained a very good chemistry with all her co stars. I think both of them will look great in an intense role because Sanam emotes very well and so does Sami Khan.

Ahsan Khan and Sanam Jang
I am very certain that all of Ahsan Khan and Sanam Jang’s fans will do anything to see both of them together in the same play. Sanam Jang is another new actress who is the queen of expressions. Ahsan Khan is a very versatile actor, he has no problem fitting in any kind of role so we know for sure that he will not let us down.

Meekal Zulfiqar and Ayza Khan
Ayza Khan is very cute and very talented. Meekal Zulfiqar is talented but sometimes I feel like he is being typecast. I have always wanted to see both of them together in a play. But for once Meekal should not play the bad husband who cannot do justice to his wife. It would be really good to see them in a romantic serial in which they have strong characters but there isn’t too much rona dhona.

Danish Taimoor and Alishba Yusef
Alishba Yusef is one of those actresses who make their fans wait for too long before they make an appearance on screen. I really liked Danish Taimoor’s acting and character in drama serial Rehai. He should do more projects in which he gets to play such roles. Alishba Yusef and Danish Taimoor will make an amazing on screen couple given that they are working in a good play with a good quality script and of course with a first-class director.
Mahira Khan and ?
Who do you think Mahira Khan will good with? Honestly speaking, I would really like to see Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan on screen together again but we all know that is not going to happen. Mahira Khan and Mohib Mirza also had a very good on screen chemistry in the play Shehr-e-Zaat. Ahsan Khan and Mahira Khan will look good together too but seriously this one is a difficult choice so I will leave it to the readers to decide.

The show will air on Neo News in March 2017 and will feature prominent names from business and technology fields of Pakistan.
