Tahira Syed  is a Pakistani ghazal and folk singer. Her repertoire of Urdu, Punjabi, Dogri and Pahari folk songs have made her a popular singer. She first appeared on air in 1968–1969 on Radio Pakistan and then on Pakistan Television. “Yeh Alam Shauq Ka Dekha na Jaey”, “Chanjar Phabdi Na Mutiar Bina” and “Abhi Tau Main Jawan Houn”, written by Pakistani poet Hafeez Jalandhri, are some of her most popular songs.

In April 1985, she appeared on the cover of National Geographic magazine. She received the Pakistan Television Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan on 23 March 2013. In 1972, she won the Nigar Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

She continues to perform at diverse events such as a “ghazal evening” in Dallas, Texas, U.S a tribute to Faiz Ahmed Faiz in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S and at the Faiz International Festival in Lahore.

Syed was married to lawyer Naeem Bukhari for 15 years (1975-1990) before their separation and divorce; they had two children. One of the reasons for their separation was the alleged affair with the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Samina was born on August 9, 1955, in Lahore to father, Moinuddin Butt, and mother, Almas Butt. She was raised in Karachi. After completing her high school graduation, she attended Government College of Commerce & Economics. Thereafter she started her career as an actress.

Actor Samina Peerzada and her talented husband Usman Peerzada tied the knot on February 14, 1975. They are blessed with two daughters. Besides acting, Peerzada is also a producer and director. He has made his appearance in Punjabi and Urdu films as an actor.

Ismat Tahira has worked on Radio and T.V back in 70s and 80s. On radio Ismat has worked in multiple fields, as a compare, news caster, and actor. On television, she has played numerous roles in dramas of PTV Lahore center. She mainly appeared in supportive/ character roles. Neelay Haath is one of her famous dramas, which aired in 1989. In the field of advertisement, she worked in an advertisement agency, to raise ads for different newspapers and in doing so, she also drove motorcycle, as she couldn’t afford a car at that time.

She eventually stopped acting in the 90s and moved to Canada with her family. Other than Ushna Shah twoof her other kids are a part of entertainment industry too. Irsa Ghazal is daughter of Ismat Tahira, and a famous TV actress too. She started her career in mid 1980’s from PTV Lahore center. Her famous dramas are ‘Mirat ul Uroos’ , ‘Pyaasi’ and Catwalk. In Mirat ul Uroos, she played the role of Akbari. Irsa Ghazal took a break from television in mid 1990’s and made a comeback in 2008-2009, and now she is regularly appearing in dramas in character roles like ‘Rishtay Kucch Adhoray se’ and ‘Kahi Unkahi’.

Ismat Tahira’s son Shah Sharabeel is a director and producer in theatre mainly serious theatre. He has produced and directed many theatre plays like ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’, ‘You only marry twice’.
