Sinf-e-Aahan vs Ehd-e-Wafa – Strengths and Weaknesses

0

The Pakistani drama industry has evolved in many ways over the years. Lately, a trend which was a thing of the past has made a comeback. ISPR is more actively involved than ever in the drama and filmmaking process. Those of us, who grew up watching dramas such as Dhuwan and Alpha Bravo Charlie, expected the best from dramas produced by ISPR. Lately apart from different short films, ISPR has also produced two major dramas which were a joint production. Both of these dramas had a star-studded cast and an ace team. These dramas have certain similarities while there are also some factors that set them apart from each other. Individual preferences determine which one worked better for the audience but there are certain aspects of these dramas which can easily be discussed neutrally. The reason why we feel there is a need for a comparison between the two is the similarities as well as the expectations of the viewers. Another reason, obviously, is that they are both ISPR productions.

The Initial Excitement

It can be safely stated that the viewers were equally excited to watch both these dramas because of the cast and the fact that this was ISPR’s production. There were great expectations from Ehd-e-Wafa because ISPR was producing a drama serial after such a long time. Since Ehd-e-Wafa set the bar high, the viewers expected Sinf-e-Aahan to be equally superb. Another reason why the viewers were especially excited about Sinf-e-Aahan was the entire team. Umera Ahmed, Nadeem Baig, and some of the most loved actresses in the Pakistani drama industry came together for the project. Apart from that, this was going to be the first drama serial with an all-female lead being shown in uniform. Sinf-e-Aahan was promoted more than Ehd-e-Wafa but both the projects got equal attention from the public.

Sinf-e-Aahan vs Ehd-e-Wafa – Strengths and Weaknesses

The First Impressions

The first few episodes of a drama play a major role in helping viewers decide whether they will continue watching the drama or not. Ehd-e-Wafa’s first few episodes did not get a lot of praise because of one particular scene which was copied from the British show Peaky Blinders. Many viewers also had their reservations about the male leads, some of whom did not look young enough to play the roles. The humorous element of the drama in the initial episode stood out and its cinematography. Some of the viewers decided not to tune into the show after the initial episodes and tuned in after it took off.

Sinf-e-Aahan vs Ehd-e-Wafa – Strengths and Weaknesses

Sinf-e-Aahan’s initial episodes also got mixed responses from the viewers. Some of the viewers had an issue with the stereotypical characters based on where they were from and others enjoyed the variations in different tracks. Overall, the casting however was not criticized as much as Ehd-e-Wafa’s casting was initially. Just like Ehd-e-Wafa’s controversial scene, some of the dialogues from Sinf-e-Aahan did not sit well with the viewers. Therefore the first impressions of these dramas were more or less the same. However, most viewers wanted to tune into Sinf-e-Aahan every week initially until it started getting repetitive.

Sinf-e-Aahan vs Ehd-e-Wafa – Strengths and Weaknesses

The Actual Content

There is no denying the fact that content is the king! Although Sinf-e-Aahan is still on air and Ehd-e-Wafa ended a long time back, there is still enough material to compare the content of both the shows. Content-wise these two dramas are quite different from each other. There are also certain similarities. First of all, let’s talk about the similarities between the two. As far as content is concerned the most prominent similarity between these two shows is that they focus on the journey of multiple protagonists. Even though in Ehd-e-Wafa, the main leads were males, the women in these men’s lives played a vital role in shaping their personalities in some way. These women were mothers, significant others, and even colleagues. Similarly, in Sinf-e-Aahan even though the main protagonists are women, there are certain male characters positive and negative who have impacted the journey of these females. Major Usama is one of the main mentors in the drama and his track has a story of its own. Another similarity between the characters is that all these characters come from different backgrounds. Therefore, Ehd-e-Wafa and Sinf-e-Aahan both are stories of people coming from different segments of society. Another common element between these two dramas is their main theme, both these dramas are based on patriotism.

The differences between these two dramas are probably more conspicuous and debate-worthy than the similarities. The boys in Ehd-e-Wafa started their journeys at an institution run by the military but all of them ended up pursuing different kinds of careers. Even though Ehd-e-Wafa was produced by ISPR, the messages they wanted to put forward were communicated in a subtle way and were not repetitive. All the characters from Ehd-e-Wafa in some way represented a certain department or profession in the country and this is how the writer showed how these departments influenced decision-making processes. Ehd-e-Wafa also focused a great deal on the personal lives of these characters and their entire existence did not revolve around their careers. The military training was covered only in a few episodes and while Saad’s personality was shaped by this training, it was not the only reason for his maturity as years passed by.

Sinf-e-Aahan vs Ehd-e-Wafa – Strengths and Weaknesses

Sinf-e-Aahan also covers the journey of young individuals who mature with time but unlike Ehd-e-Wafa, the credit for all this maturity is repeatedly accounted to the training given by the military. Unlike, Ehd-e-Wafa, Sinf-e-Aahan covers the military training only and although the writer has intelligently woven personal stories in different tracks, overall, the focus has been entirely on the impact of the military training on all these women. Their family lives and personal relationships do get screen time but even that screen time is used to further the idea that their character building would have been incomplete had they not joined the army. Because of this particular reason, the dialogues tend to be repetitive at times. There are also instances when you question the excessive focus on the impact of military training because sometimes it relegates everything else in these women’s lives to the background. Sinf-e-Aahan does not offer the variation which Ehd-e-Wafa did by showing that different characters chose to enter careers that were equally important. Ehd-e-Wafa’s story became more interesting towards the middle and right till the end, Sinf-e-Aahan was much more interesting in the beginning than it has been in the latter half. There are times when the viewers feel that the writer is trying too hard to get the message across. There is barely any subtlety while putting the message across. Sinf-e-Aahan has so far not given as many memorable and impactful moments to the viewers to remember as Ehd-e-Wafa did.

Final Thoughts

Like any other drama, both these dramas had their strengths and weaknesses but the most positive aspect of these dramas was that they provided meaningful entertainment. There is always room for improvement and we hope that the next ISPR production is even more appealing than these two. It is always refreshing watching well-written dramas with strong young characters whose sole purpose in life is not getting married! Which one of these dramas appealed to you more? Do you want to watch more dramas such as these? Share your views.

Sinf e Ahan Episode 1 Story Review – An Eventful Beginning

Ohkay so, presented & produced by ISPR, Six Sigma Plus Production & Next Level Entertainment, written by Umera Ahmed & directed by Nadeem Baig; Sinf e Ahan premiered last night & is based on the story of 5 girls who dream of being a part of Pakistan Army. The first episode was definitely quite eventful & I liked that they decided to give coverage to all 5 leading characters equally, instead of making it about a few of them to cover the entire episode. The first episode set the tone of what is going to serve as the driving force for these 5 girls to make this life-changing decision for themselves. It is interesting to note that because the cast of Sinf e Ahan is so elaborate, it is going to offer something to everybody who is going to tune into this drama. One way or the other the audience is going to find such a character amongst these 5 girls with who they will easily resonate. It was interesting to see how they kept the story contemporary with references to the real-life dynamics of women belonging to this generation.

The opening scene of Sinf e Ahan beautifully elaborated the different walks of life the leading characters come from. The best aspect of this drama for me is the diversity they have decided to show because of which a wide range of audience is going to find it appealing & connect with it. The one thing that was established in the very first episode was that all these girls had one thing in common; such people who did not believe in them or their dreams. Those people who didn’t see them worthy of achieving something big. Although they did show two such parents who are going to be supportive of their daughter’s decisions even those girls had either a man or a woman in their lives dictating their future & letting them know that they are not worth it. All of this was shown in a non-preachy manner but somehow it all seemed very natural & realistic because this is the kind of reaction most women receive when they speak about their aspirations & dreams.

I am glad that because there are so many characters, most of the episodes are going to be quite eventful with perfect pacing. Rabia Safeer (Sajal Aly) comes from an Army background herself. A class topper & capable of doing so much on her own is being restrained because her parents think getting her married at this age is the best decision for her. She feels suffocated but because she respects her parents enough, she obliges. Mahjabeen Mastaan (Kubra Khan) comes from a privileged spectrum of the society where people from afar might see her life as completely perfect & normal but only she knows what she goes through by being a part of a dysfunctional family where her parents share a toxic relationship. Mahjabeen is too inspired by Gen. Nigar & despite being dictated by her mother, she at least has a clear goal in mind where she wants to enjoy the life of glory. Mahjabeen is a corporate lawyer & she decided to opt for it because her mother wanted to. Shaista Khanzada (Yumna Zaidi) comes from a Pathan background & her family is also in talks with a family to get her married. Shaista is shown to be a very intelligent & quick-witted girl & the best part about her is that she knows what she is capable of. She too has a grandmother & a general setting in her family where she will definitely not be supported initially, but she definitely is not a quitter.

Sinf e Ahan Episode 1 Story Review - An Eventful Beginning

Then we have Arzoo Daniel (Syra Yousuf) a girl belonging to the Christian faith, with a loving & supportive father. She too faces demons but is quite mature & calm to deal with it all herself. She is involved in a relationship where Noraiz (Asad Siddique) does not really see her worthy enough of being his partner, nor achieving something on her own. Arzoo is subdued but that does not mean she can not be what she wants to be. She has been approached by ISSB for English teaching but once again, she is silenced by Noraiz. Then we have Pariwesh Jamal (Ramsha Khan), a young & fierce Balochi girl who has a supportive father but the kind of mother who does not have exposure where she would support her daughter in her endeavors. The Sardar of their tribe wants Pariwesh to get married to one of his servants but it looks like her father is not going to accept the proposal.

The leading ladies were introduced in a thorough manner & their lifestyles, the dynamic of their families was also presented in such a way where you immediately understand the kind of background they come from. I am glad they did not take a lot of time in establishing the plot & the next episode will most probably cover their entrance test & the things they will have to go through in order to convince their families. I wish Sajal Aly had gotten a bit more coverage in this episode. Kubra Khan played the role of Mahjabeen Mastaan convincingly & her expressions were on-point especially where she had to show her emotions when her parents were involved in an argument. Syra Yousuf fitted the role as if it was made for her. My two favorite characters were Pariwesh & Shaista, they are definitely going to bring in a lot of quirk, humor & sass in the story.

Sinf e Ahan Episode 1 Story Review - An Eventful Beginning

A Convincing Start

Overall the drama definitely has had a convincing start & what makes it more interesting is how they have so many stories that will be told. I just wish the picture quality & camera work were crisp because most of the scenes seemed a bit too dull & dark. Some of the frames felt as if they had some kind of gradient effect which was taking away from the drama-watching experience. For a drama as big as this one, the crisp picture quality is definitely needed, especially when the girls will step into Army & their training sequences will be covered. I really hope in the upcoming episodes, this doesn’t turn out to be a persisting issue. I must commend the attention to detail given to bring forth the lifestyle & dynamic of these girls, each frame had a visual impact that added more depth to their story. It definitely had the old PTV drama vibe to it which definitely set it apart. The background music & the opening song were beautiful too. Definitely looking forward to the next episode. How did you find the very first episode of Sinf e Ahan? Please share your thoughts about it.

Sinf e Ahan is going to change the narrative for this generation of females, where it will give a scoop of what it is like to be a part of the Army and the amount of effort, hard work, dedication, and perseverance that goes into earning that place. In the recent past, we have seen a trend of Pakistani dramas airing their finales and opening episodes on silver screen. Pyarey Afzal, Mere Paas Tum Ho and Parizaad are a few dramas who got big openings in cinemas and people bought tickets to watch finale of their favourites on silver screen.

Ehd e Wafa also aspired to air their last episode in cinemas but that did not happen due to Covid striking the country while Sang e Mah saw its beginning on the silver screens.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 9 & 10 Story Review – The Change of Perspective

Ohkay so, Sinf e Aahan continues to be one such drama that is nothing short of quality entertainment for its viewers. The messaging is strong & the execution is stronger. It has been written to perfection by Umera Ahmed & it is commendable to have so many diverse characters which allow audiences from all walks of life to feel connected to them & find their story in their journey as well. I personally liked the latest episode a lot more because, for the first time, it could be seen that these girls felt emotionally touched & something in them moved in regards to their homeland.

Change of Perspective

Kiran’s track might not be directly linked to the girls & their training but they have used her character to show the struggles of the family members of those Army officers who lose their lives for their country. The entire scenario of Kiran’s life is not only heart-wrenching but goes to show how hard it has been for her after losing Taimoor. Although Osama has given her support & security, but it was heart-breaking to see how in love Kiran was with Taimoor & how he meant so much to her. All the planning related to the future, their dreams of being together; ended the moment Taimoor lost his life. Although initially, I didn’t really see much relevance of this character in this episode, in particular, I felt for her a lot. Also, the loss of Taimoor has been so daunting for her that she failed to even acknowledge it in front of her friend who she met after such a long time. It goes to show that she is still grieving but a part of her is warming up to Osama as well.

All the moments that the girls share with each other are a lot of fun to watch. It is like although they may have certain disagreements but when it comes to the PMA & its training, all of them stand together in pain because they clearly understand how hard it is for them as well as other cadets too. So far, they all have been focused on how hard things are for them, that is why none of them is seeing the bigger picture. None of them so far understands the importance of this scrutiny they’re being put under. At this moment, they all are only focusing on how painful everything is, how sleep-deprived they are, how tiresome it gets but soon enough, their perspective will change & they will take it as it comes.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 9 & 10 Story Review - The Change of Perspective

I really enjoy the interactions between Shaista & Rabia, as well as Mahjabeen & Pariwesh. They know that they are not really best of friends but they are putting up with each other because they have no other option. Their banter as well as some gestures of support is absolutely sweet to witness. Syeda Sidra continues to be the free bird who is doing what it takes to stay uncaged. I enjoy how she continues to get into trouble but that still doesn’t deter her from being who she really is.

In the latest episode, the speech that Maj. Osama gave to them is definitely going to serve as an eye-opener. It clearly showed that after that particular moment, there wasn’t even a single cadet who wasn’t moved or felt touched. It was clear & it was quite obvious that this was the moment they all were waiting for & from now on, they will truly understand the motive behind this training & the reasoning attached to it. They will actually realize what it means to be a part of the Pakistani Army & they will take it seriously. I loved seeing everyone’s expressions & the best part was, none of them shied away from admitting that they were moved & probably for the first time, understood the meaning of the national anthem. The perspective has shifted & now, they all will do their best to prove why they deserve to be a part of the military.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

These two episodes of Sinf e Aahan were nothing short of a treat. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the training sequences as well as their interactions. I think now the story is going to make a shift & we will see the personal growth in all these characters which I am most excited about. I must commend the writer Umera Ahmed for coming up with such diverse characters & giving them such unique personalities. All the actors as well as the supporting cast have made Sinf e Aahan worth watching. My favorite sequence from this episode definitely was when all the families bragged about their daughters outdoing themselves & in reality, they were getting bashed for basic things such as postures or lefts & rights & also, the entire scene dedicated to the definition of the national anthem, followed by it being played with the focus on all the cadets. Definitely looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 8 Story Review – The Training Begins

Ohkay so, this was yet another enjoyable episode of Sinf e Aahan. It has definitely turned out to be the kind of drama that you can tune to with a guarantee that you are going to have a great time watching. However, it is also the kind of drama that may not give you a lot to discuss because whatever you see can only be enjoyed while watching. Sinf e Aahan has definitely been written with a lot of detailing & perfection, but the way it has been executed is kind of one-dimensional where there is only one focal point in every single episode & then every situation revolves around it.

The Training Begins

In this episode, the girls got a lot more insight into what their life at the PMA was going to be like. It was going to be clockwork & a strict routine that they had to follow. None of them actually seemed happy because first & foremost, they were not being treated as some royalty but as cadets who were there to be trained. In the meanwhile, they all have been warming up to each other but Shaista & Pariwesh have their loyalties sorted, this is why they have not bothered forming a bond with their roommates; Mahjabeen & Rabia. It is also nice to see the sincerity they have towards their friends, it makes them loyal in their own special way.

Sidra is definitely a breath of fresh air & every single time she appears, she lights up the screen because she always has something new to say & a very different outlook on things. Nathmy’s character has not been explored much yet & so far, she just looks like a filler in most of the scenes. However, I am excited to see what her character has to offer & how her story will unfold.

Maj. Osama got introduced to the girls & right from that moment, he knew he had to leave an impression on the girls so that they understood it a bit too well that he meant business. His wife particularly seems cold towards him & there was this strange hesitation between the two, which was slightly touched upon in the promo. Osama definitely seems a bit too invested in what his life is now as an Army officer & what it was like when he was a cadet himself. It seems he doesn’t have a space for anything else in his life; probably not even his own family. Maj. Samia’s backstory was really heart-touching. It was shown beautifully that even those with the toughest facades have to fight personal battles & they do not let any of it deter them from their duty. It wasn’t like Samia’s only job was to be tough on the girls, but it showed that it demanded her full attention, her undivided time & effort, because of which she couldn’t be there for her family when they needed her the most. It was however beautiful to see that she had a supportive family who understood what her job requirements were, that is why the moment she showed up, they continued to put her heart to ease.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 8 Story Review - The Training Begins

Mahjabeen wanted to go back & she wasn’t taking any of this seriously but soon enough, she will be forced to realize the opportunity that has been presented to her & how important it was for her to be committed to it. The homesickness of some of the girls was shown nicely too. It all makes them very real & relatable. The training has just begun & this will pave a way for the girls to find themselves & realize their potential.

All in all, Sinf e Aahan makes a great watch. Something totally different & unique which is a rarity on Pakistani television. It provides quality entertainment & shows the kind of effort it takes to be in the Army. It won’t be wrong to say that Sinf e Aahan has been well written & brilliantly directed drama. All those funny moments, along with the emotional ones establish a very real connection with all the main characters. Definitely looking forward to more episodes. Going by the promo, I do not know how I feel about Osama’s wife’s past. I don’t think her character has been given that much importance, to begin with for me as a viewer to feel the need to find out more about her. I think it will be another way of showing the personal struggles Army officers go through too, just like Samia was faced within this episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 7 Story Review – First Impression

Ohkay so, the main takeaway so far from the episodes of Sinf e Aahan was mostly related to the dreams that these girls had related to joining the Army. However, the actual trial & tribulation begins now & what’s left to be seen is how much of a passion will they have to pursue this dream. It has been established how important this position is to each one of them, that is why they were easily adapting to the new environment whereas the one who had a very different picture in mind was suffering the most. Each & every episode of Sinf e Aahan provides quality entertainment & although some of the scenarios may seem a bit too detailed, I am sure when the episodes will progress, all of this will count in showing how far all these female cadets have come.

First Impression

So, it was their very first day, very first encounter with the PMA. Their families left all of them on a positive note & surprisingly, each of their family members got the opportunity to say what they wanted to, in regards to their daughters & their personalities. It was cute & laughable at the same time where all the parents thought the officers were going to babysit their girls while keeping in mind what they like & what they don’t. This portrayal to some extent made a lot of sense because civilians at times are a bit oblivious of what actually happens & how the training takes place in the PMA. This is the reason why only Rabia’s family wasn’t seen making these kinds of talks because belonging to the Army, they exactly knew how tough it was going to be & they knew the changes Rabia was going to go through in her personality.

Mahjabeen got a lot of coverage in this episode. From her overly packed bags to her car to her hair dye, everything was off-track & even before expected, she as well as her family got an idea of what was happening & how tough it was going to be for her. Kumail could only offer some level of support but he wanted to respect Mahjabeen’s decision. The overall execution was really amusing & it did make me feel for Mahjabeen but after a certain point, it did feel a little stretched.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 7 Story Review - First Impression

Syeda Sidra was also finding it hard to adjust because she had certain preferences & all of that was shown interestingly as well. I really enjoyed the interaction the girls had with the officer. She let them know immediately that she meant business & starting from now, their life was going to be changed completely. I really think each & every episode will be dedicated to how these girls will be trained & meanwhile, it will also showcase their personal & emotional growth.

Another interesting twist was how Rabia’s friend was now Mahjabeen’s roommate & vice versa. Shaista & Rabia’s interaction was funny, whereas Pariwesh was already done with Mahjabeen. However, it was nice to see Pariwesh trying to console Mahjabeen. These girls will eventually become good friends but the start has definitely been shaky.

Refreshing

Sinf e Aahan is definitely a breath of fresh air. Yes, there are certain scenes that may look a bit stretched but overall the vibe is refreshing & it gives you enough reasons to tune to it & enjoy it to the fullest. The main strength of this drama is the 5 lead characters & the equal coverage that they get. Just because most of this episode was dedicated to Mahjabeen, it did start to look a little one-dimensional. Anyhow, I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the episodes in a hope that all the girls will get more & equal coverage, because it keeps the pace fast & the overall episode interesting too. I must say, they all looked lovely in the uniform. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 6 Story Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

Ohkay so, this was yet another very entertaining & heart-warming episode of Sinf e Aahan. The girls have finally arrived at the PMA & the way the dynamic of every family was shown was not only interesting but realistic to watch. Sinf e Aahan happens to be a drama that beautifully covers the dreams girls along with their families have. The credit for the success of this drama definitely goes to the makers who decided to bring something so different to the table & special credit to Umera Ahmed for writing the entire plot as well as the characters so beautifully.

Arrival At The PMA

I will have to say that my favorite daughter-father duo is definitely Pariwesh & Jamal. The lengths Jamal literally goes to ensure his daughter feels safe & stays focused on her dream is heart-warming & endearing. This is a man who has gone against all odds to support his daughter, to keep the passion of chasing her dreams alive. This is exactly why the moment he saw how tensed Pariwesh was when she saw Sardar & his son in the PMA, he decided to do something about it too. The fact that none of it was in his control, yet he wanted to try at least goes to show the kind of father he is. Everything that unraveled after that was simply amazing. The way the officers at the PMA decided to put Sardar in a place of power & position was a masterstroke. They knew exactly the kind of mentality they were dealing with, therefore instead of threatening him, they decided to make him in charge of Jamal & his family’s well-being. Sardar obviously knew he couldn’t do anything because it was a request of the PMA & also because his son is going to be there too. This entire scenario was nothing short of a genius & thoroughly enjoyable to watch. The hug at the end actually left me teary-eyed.

So, Maj. Osama has finally arrived & alongside his family, settling in Kakul too. I really wish the mood of Osama’s wife wasn’t so somber because that entire sequence was reminiscent of Neeli Zinda Hai with Sonia Mishal moving into the new house & being a mother of a daughter as well who actually fell the moment she stepped inside the new house *spooky*. She obviously couldn’t have been chirpy or happy because all of this was new for her but there was also no need to downplay it to this extent. Maj. Osama has been assigned to train the female cadets & the kind of briefing he got from the officer suggested that things are not going to be easy for the girls & that the PMA has something very different in store for them.

The initial impression the girls got from the PMA was very welcoming & homely but little do they know what the actual plan of action is going to be. It was really nice to see all the girls meeting each other & introducing their families too. They all didn’t know who was going to make it, that is why they were pleasantly surprised when they spotted their friends. Shaista & Mahjabeen’s family interaction was really nice. I loved the way Mahjabeen’s father showed his concern by trying to bribe the officer. As much as it was wrong on an ethical & moral level, it simply showed that as a rich businessman, he didn’t know any better & this was the only way he could think of, in order to ensure his daughter’s safety. One thing was sure that every parent knew it was going to be difficult for their daughters that is why they all were extremely concerned.

Arzoo was forced to think about everything that Noraiz has been saying to her. I so wanted her to give him a piece of her mind before switching the phone off but the Arzoo that I know definitely needs this time off – these 6 months to herself to actually figure out about this relationship. The thoughts have started running through her mind & she is being forced to think about how manipulative & dishonest Noriaz has been to her. I really want to see the difference Arzoo will feel & the kind of confidence she will develop to put an end to this miserable excuse of a relationship she is involved in with Noriaz. Nathmy Parrera has also arrived at the PMA for her training. She knows Urdu & is keen to find her father’s friend too. The things that were running through her mind as she entered the vicinity were depicted nicely. It goes to show that this is not just training for her but coming to Pakistan actually holds a very special place in her heart. She has been affiliated with Pakistan since she was a child & she also knows what this would’ve meant to her father if he was alive. The little conversation she had with an officer at the PMA showed that it may be easy for her to find her father’s friend, which is another interesting situation to look forward to.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This episode of Sinf e Aahan was thoroughly enjoyable. The story has been making very interesting progress with each passing episode & because there are so many characters, every change of scene makes it quite engaging to watch. The direction, writing & overall execution of Sinf e Aahan is top-notch, this is why it has easily become a fan-favorite in no time. All the girls & every single member of the supporting cast have performed brilliantly. The addition of Shehryar Munawwar is really nice. I wish the next time I see Sonia Mishal’s character in Sinf e Aahan, she is out of her Neeli Zinda Hai trance. Yumna Zaidi & Dananeer continue to impress with their brilliant performances. Sinf e Aahan Episode 5 Story Review – Changing Perspectives

Ohkay so, this episode of Sinf e Aahan was once again a great watch. It covered how everyone’s perspective was being changed, slowly & steadily. I felt every single character got equal coverage in this episode & some of the flashbacks were important to develop the story further. This was just the right time to introduce the new character & with this, I feel the pacing of this drama is spot on. Props to the entire team for showcasing the stories of all these girls in such a manner that I naturally feel emotionally attached to all of them & eagerly want to see how they will prosper in their journey ahead.

Changing Perspectives

Arzoo has earned something on her own but it was actually quite upsetting that Noraiz wanted to make her feel less worthy of what she could achieve. He deliberately tried to make her feel guilty that she decided to do something on her own without paying heed to what he was going to say or decide for her. Noraiz is definitely someone who can not see a girl associated to him have her own identity & individuality. So far he has played with Arzoo’s feelings only because he found her vulnerable & knew that she relied on him emotionally but now when she was breaking free from that cycle of manipulation, he couldn’t stand it. I really wish to see when Arzoo will realize that she is better off without Noraiz & probably give him a piece of her mind!

Shaista’s entire family was supportive of her but she only had her grandmother left to be convinced. The smile that her grandmother gave when she left was Shaista’s yet another win. It came as such a pleasant surprise how Shaista’s father was being treated by everyone around him, it strengthened his faith in his daughter & he knew that she picked the right path for herself. Wali Mohammad’s reaction was priceless when he found out that Shaista made it through the exams whereas he couldn’t. All these moments bring in the right amount of comedy that is required to add more layers to every scenario.

Pariwesh’s father knows that he has to be discreet about it but the way the news made it to the head of the tribe was again a realistic portrayal of how things roll in close-knit communities. All it took was a spill from the postman & Sardar figured out that Jamal was up to something. The scene where the entire family watched the TV together was really nice. The way Pariwesh had big dreams related to Army in her eyes was beautiful. She is doing it for herself but more than that, she is doing it for the man who believes in her; her father, which is absolutely sweet.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 5 Story Review - Changing Perspectives

So, Rabia & Mahjabeen’s backstory got revealed a bit. They were not just friends but best of friends back in the day, because of which Rabia considered Mahjabeen for her brother Daniyal. The conversation both the girls had kind of suggested that Mahjabeen too had high regard for Daniyal but maybe she never saw him that way & that turned out to be the reason why Mahjabeen & Rabia drifted apart. It will be interesting to see how they both will resolve their issues & become friends again.

Nathmy Parrera (Yehali Tashiya) got introduced in this episode. She has been selected to train at PMA Kakul for 6 months. Her introduction was thorough & the backstory was touching too. She is not just going as a trainee but has an emotional connection to Pakistan because of her late father who was affiliated with PMA as well. Nathmy also has another reason to be keen about her visit to Pakistan because she wants to find her father’s long-lost friend Majid & wants to reconnect with him. The acting of Yehali was effortless & she brought in a new level of freshness & dimension to the story.

Refreshing & Impactful

This episode of Sinf e Aahan was again power-packed with so many interesting & amazing scenarios unfolding one after another. The main lead deserves all the credit for holding the interest of the audience but the supporting cast in this drama deserves full points too for being so convincing in their portrayal. It just goes to show how all the actors associated with this drama put their heart & soul into this project to make it unforgettable & impactful. They all have succeeded. The producers & the director along with the writer should be extremely proud for bringing something so special & fresh to the table. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 4 Story Review – Chase To The Dreams

Ohkay so, this episode of Sinf e Aahan was mostly dedicated to the hard work all the girls put in to get through the first round of physical testing & interviews. Although it was nice to see how they were tested in terms of physical strength, agility & intelligence, after a certain point it started to feel a bit too detailed, which made me feel they could’ve easily skipped a routine or two & sped up the process. However, the comedy they had added in almost every other scene made it thoroughly enjoyable & very light-hearted.

Chase To The Dreams

The best part of this episode was how in every single scene, you could see the difference in their personalities. It was really nice seeing how all these girls were completely different but strong in their own way. Throughout the entrance test, they continued to show different traits which set them apart & made them unique. Sinf e Aahan is more like a journey that we’re getting to witness, therefore it draws you to it & you feel emotionally connected to each one of them. I loved how it was elaborated that they all were fighting their fears because they only had one motive in mind, that was to do something that they passionately felt so much for.

The highlight of this episode for me was the interview & the answers of each one of them. I absolutely loved Arzoo & Shaista in that round. Felt connected to Pariwesh, found Rabia endearing & Mahjabeen simply cute. Mahjabeen’s answers were the most interesting because you just don’t expect such a different perspective during an interview but she showed that she fully embraced herself & was not shy of what she was passionate about. Shaista’s confidence in herself is the most beautiful trait of hers. It also depicts how clear & sorted she is. Rabia’s character to be is the simplest of all but her struggle to fight her fears was nice to see too. Arzoo is subdued but somehow, she knows she is worth more than what she thought life would offer her. Pariwesh is brave but the confidence she has knowing that she has the support of her father makes her a very special character too. However, what makes Shaista my favorite is how she knows the dynamics of her family, yet she was so sure that this is what she wanted to do.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 4 Story Review - Chase To The Dreams

Shaista’s father found out about her little adventure but the sweetest interaction was between him & Kamil where Kamil decided to remind him how he has raised his two beautiful & confident daughters. I think this has to be one of the most refreshing aspects of this track where they have shown that no matter how bound they must be to their roots, some people still believe in the power of education, they don’t expect their daughters to just be married & not do anything for themselves. Shaista got this edge because she knew that one way or the other, she will be able to convince her father because of the way he has treated her all her life – it was absolutely sweet.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This episode of Sinf e Aahan was very interesting & thoroughly enjoyable. The main cast stands out for their brilliant performances but both Dananeer & Merub have turned out to be the find of the industry with the effortless & natural portrayal of their respective characters. I actually find myself looking forward to their scenes throughout the episode because they both are not only cute but add so much meaning to the overall situation. I am glad that the story is moving forward & the preview of the next episode was also quite interesting. I am keen to see how Arzoo will tackle Noraiz who will try to guilt-trip her into calling her dream of joining the Army quits. I will however say that I found the music a bit too loud & overwhelming in the first half of the episode. I understand that they don’t have any other option than to play loud music suiting the exercises the girls were meant to do in order to succeed but because of it being such a long routine, the background music started getting to me. Anyways, I really hope in the upcoming episodes, they don’t really rely too much on the background music though. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 3 Story Review – Refreshing

Ohkay so, this was yet another fun & eventful episode of Sinf e Ahan. First & foremost, I must commend the magnitude with which this project has been executed. While watching this episode, I couldn’t stop noticing how grand each & every frame of Sinf e Ahan was. One word that describes this drama for me is ‘refreshing’. I absolutely loved how all the girls despite their inhibitions were trying to adjust to this new life. Some had dreams, some had fears but they only had one goal & that was to make it through the first round of examination.

Brilliantly Executed Drama

Now the girls were totally on their own. Pariwesh & Arzoo had immense support from their fathers & that particular moment where both the fathers sent them off with teary eyes was my absolute favorite. It has been beautifully established what this means to them – especially Pariwesh’s father. Arzoo’s father has been very supportive too but once again, I wish there was more interaction between him & Arzoo for us to have witnessed.

Although it is understandable that these girls will later form one big group but I liked how they kept it so organic & real. They became friends with whoever they felt comfortable with & despite the stark differences between their personalities & backgrounds, they found it really easy to form a connection. Rabia & Pariwesh became friends, Shaista & Mahjabeen ended up supporting each other. I do feel it was deliberate that they showed a practicing believer like Syeda Sidra (Dananeer) being friends with Arzoo – it just made their equation so sweet & showed that despite them belonging to different religions, they were nothing but respectful to each other. It was more like their passion & goal was bringing them together & was the only common factor that mattered to them. The one particular conversation where Sidra tells Arzoo about offering nafals & immediately reminds her to say her prayers too was really nice.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 3 Story Review - Refreshing

So, Rabia & Mahjabeen have been friends in the past & it seems Rabia was interested to get her brother Daniyal married to Mahjabeen but because of Kumail, they both drifted apart. At present, they both can’t stand each other but it will definitely be nice to see them coming together in the latter part of the story. As much as I was introduced to this certain track between Rabia & Mahjabeen, I will honestly say that I didn’t find it too convincing but yes, there is definitely more to the story, so I am eager to find out what pushed them to this point where they have so much anger in their hearts for one another. Rabia has found some support in Pariwesh & she continued to remind her that the Army background was just not going to help her in any way.

Shaista being Shaista didn’t take much time in becoming cordial with Mahjabeen. I liked their friendship a lot where Shaista didn’t believe in barriers, Mahjabeen was just playing along too without getting too bothered about it. Mahjabeen also decided to help Shaista because she could see how disturbed she was. I like how all of them started showing team spirit & formed connections with one another because they realized it was what they needed & was going to help them in the long run.

I do feel the body language of all the girls in the first selection round was deliberately kept raw & unrefined because they had regular routines & lifestyles. However, it will be interesting to see the difference in their body language & overall demeanor once they will start the official training & progress in their journey.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 3 Story Review - Refreshing

Convincing Performances

Sinf e Ahan is nothing short of a treat for all the Pakistani drama fans & viewers – especially because of the freshness of content. While watching this episode I couldn’t stop enjoying the fact that I was getting to see so many young girls who had big dreams in their eyes. Where some had family support, there were others who were doing it completely because they chose it for themselves such as Mahjabeen & Shaista. I really like Gul’s character & Merub Ali has proven to be a great choice for this role. The way she kept all of his family members guessing about Shaista was really cute. Shaista & Kamil’s (Junaid Jamshed) interaction was really cute too. One thing is for sure that her fiance will support her all the way through & will never tell her to put her dreams on hold. The way he decided to drop her off was enough to show that for him Shaista’s choices mattered a lot too.

I must say, Dananeer’s performance was really convincing. The way she carried her scarf & didn’t let go of the Punjabi accent showed the kind of effort she put in knowing that this was a big break that she was getting as her debut drama. She definitely brought in a comic relief to this episode & all of a sudden her character felt so realistic & connectable. Although the star cast of Sinf e Ahan has definitely been the major factor that has attracted the viewers but the supporting cast is also proving to be equally convincing & wonderful too. It actually shows how Army is accessible to those who are determined to become a part of it. The aerial shots & overall execution is brilliant. It is also amazing that they used actual locations to shoot the drama & didn’t just create a set to suggest they were appearing for their ISSB tests. I really like how they have kept the interactions between all the characters so realistic – which once again is going to make it very easy for different viewers to relate to. Sinf e Aahan Episode 2 Story Review – Thoroughly Enjoyable Episode

Ohkay so, this was yet another eventful episode of Sinf e Ahan. I am glad they took yet another episode in establishing the family dynamics of each one of them. It gave us an insight into how they were going to walk on this path after dealing with so many different issues. The way the story of all of these girls is being told makes you connect with them instantly & has enough pull to keep you interested in their tracks. I am definitely looking forward to how things will unravel for all of them once they will step inside PMA but for now, the drama definitely has gotten a perfect kickstart to get things going.

Their Journey

I will definitely start off by saying that my favorite moments throughout this episode belonged to Pariwesh & the bond that she shares with her father. It was absolutely refreshing to see a father like hers who not only had big dreams for his daughter but also believed in her so much. This goes to show that the bond that he shared with her was purely based on unconditional love & respect. He respects Pariwesh enough to also respect her passion & he loves her unconditionally where he wants her to just succeed no matter what price he has to pay for it. It was absolutely sweet that Pariwesh was very much aware of how hard her father worked to see her do well & chase her dreams.

Although Pariwesh’s mother may not be on the same page, she may not have so much exposure to understand that Pariwesh can do something on her own but the way she kept everything a secret from one of the neighbors was enough to show that she knew she shouldn’t come in between the plans both her husband & daughter have devised for themselves. The way he took her for shopping & felt like questioning the clothing choices was another cute moment from this episode. The way he smiled ear to ear showed how proud he was of his daughter & how sure he was that she was going to succeed. It is amazing that although we know all these girls are going to make it, but how different their fathers are in their approach. I found this contrast quite interesting that a father coming from a humble background had so much faith in his daughter but then there were such fathers too who didn’t see the potential in their daughters.

Rabia’s brother showed up at the right time, just when she needed that emotional & moral support from her brother. At least he tried to change the perspective of his parents & made his mother realize that there was still so much Rabia could do apart from getting married. The mother seems to put undue pressure on Rabia but it is still nice that despite being in such a sticky situation, Rabia still has some passion left in her& has not completely given up on her dreams. The entire scene of how Rabia’s brother entered the house was very amusing, I really liked that they showed such mundane scenarios which made it all seem very realistic & set their chemistry as a family instantly.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 2 Story Review - Thoroughly Enjoyable Episode

Shaista is not going to give up on her dreams either; even if it means she has to bicker with her grandmother or escape from her house in the middle of the night. Gul’s continuous support to Shaista makes things easier for her but it is always very sweet to see Gul facing the brunt of almost everything despite not being the one responsible for what transpires. The way Gul kept Wali Mohammad guessing went to show that she surely is Shaista’s sister who’s always quick-witted & thinks things through in a jiffy. Shaista is unstoppable & what makes her character endearing is that although she comes from a deep-rooted family, she still believes in herself so much that she knows what she is capable of. The kind of confidence she has in herself really adds so much depth in her character, definitely making her one of my favorites for sure.

Arzoo got a lot more limelight in this episode & it truly made me feel for her. She already is dealing with so much but only for the sake of her family, she puts up with a guy like Noraiz who does not respect her at all. Noraiz might think that Arzoo can not see-through things but he is mistaken. She definitely can but chooses to stay quiet & tolerate all of it because she realizes that her family wants her to be settled with a guy like him who himself is financially stable. Arzoo does feel a sense of resentment towards Noraiz but still believes that he might get married to her. I definitely wanted to see some more interaction between Arzoo & her father but I guess it might happen in the upcoming episodes. It is sad that an already subdued girl like Arzoo is being belittled by Noraiz, however, it will be interesting to see her journey of understanding her self-worth & regaining the confidence that is missing from her life. I am keen to see the transformation in Arzoo where she will realize that she never truly needed a man like Noraiz who was never loyal to her.

Mahjabeen went to take the test with a hand-held fan, which was cute & also perfectly showed where she came from. Everyone around Mahjabeen thinks they know what she is made of but somehow their demeaning attitude & their lack of confidence in her is what is going to serve as a driving force for her.

Brilliant Performances

This episode of Sinf e Ahan was really nice. I thoroughly enjoyed the way they used regular situations to add the element of comedy in this episode. The light-hearted approach made it a good watch. The acting of all the actresses is simply perfect. It is amazing how they all have owned these characters & have portrayed them so effortlessly that it seems the writer wrote it with these certain actors in her mind. The supporting cast has done a great job too. I really liked Merub Ali’s performance in this episode, whoever chose her to play the role of Gul, especially as Yumna Zaidi’s younger sister has really made the right choice. She actually looks like Yumna’s younger sister & that’s all that I was noticing the entire time. Ramsha Khan, Kubra Khan, Syra Yousuf & Sajal Aly have performed beautifully too. Whoever is responsible for the styling of these girls has done a great job too – I just wish Ramsha Khan has given up on her smokey eyes & had opted for a more subtle makeup look because it seems a bit too elaborate for her character. Overall, the drama has definitely had a great start & I am looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sinf e Aahan Episode 11 Story Review – Emotionally Charged Episode

Ohkay so, it was an emotionally charged episode of Sinf e Aahan. The girls, their stories & their interactions make Sinf e Aahan a breath of fresh air. It is beautiful that through each one of them, they are reinforcing what girls are capable of if they put their mind to something. This episode was a little special because, despite all the struggles, it gave an insight into what life at PMA means to them. They worded their letters beautifully & it also showed how they have started to see their family members differently too. The training has definitely started to bring a change in each one of them & it is a treat to witness it all.

The Letters To The Families

It all started with Mahjabeen’s letter to her parents. Mahjabeen, being the only child has faced the brunt of her parents’ bitter relationship a lot more. Although her parents did their best to provide her comfort & luxury she could never really convey what she longed for the most. Mahjabeen was definitely the one who wanted to quit but now as the days have passed, she has not only started to see the meaning behind it all but has also started feeling worthy of glory that will come her way as an Army personnel. For the first time, Mahjabeen felt she was in a position to address her concerns & issues but she didn’t do it out of animosity, it all came from a place of concern & more so, from someone who got the time to contemplate & realize what was missing from her life & what she wanted out of it too.

Shaista’s letter to her Dadi was just so cute. I loved the way she linked her life at PMA to the treatment Daherdi gave to her. It was beautiful how easily she could relate it all & present a true picture of what her life as a cadet was; full of challenges, hardships but teaching her the true meaning of it all & most importantly, her worth. My favorite moments definitely were how at the end of each one of their letters, they saw their pictures, with a sense of pride & honor in their eyes. It was like they all were proud of what they were doing for themselves as well as their country. That was absolutely emotional & very heart-warming.

Rabia’s letter to her brother was also very sweet. Rabia’s character is so simple therefore it is very easy to relate to her. I like how she is always very playful with her colleagues, yet very focused when she is training. She never truly lets anyone know what she is feeling but the way she worded her feelings in the letter showed that to date, she has only felt comfortable sharing every little detail with her brother Daniyal. Therefore now when she got a chance, she decided to write the letter to her brother first. It also showed that because Daniyal was supportive of her decision, she felt she owed it to him. Rabia has never really said anything against her mother’s mindset but the way she spoke about the entire proposal culture went to show that it kind of hurt her a little how her mother made her go through it all. Rabia has always been very sorted & knows her worth but still seeing her having a lot of pride in her eyes while looking at her picture was again really very special.

It won’t be an episode of Sinf e Aahan with a bit of fun shared between the girls. Rabia being Rabia found out that Nathmy understood Urdu. The entire conversation that followed after was really cute. Pariwesh & Shaista has also formed an opinion about Mahjabeen & Rabia, therefore it can be foreseen that these two will try their best to patch things up between Mahjabeen & Rabia. While going through the letter that Rabia wrote to Daniyal & the way she spoke so highly of him, it kind of made sense why Rabia is so ticked off at Mahjabeen. It is quite obvious that Daniyal means the entire world to Rabia, therefore she wouldn’t have been able to handle the rejection of her brother by Mahjabeen. This is what I feel must’ve happened between them.

As much as I do understand the perspective they have tried to show through Kiran’s character, I really find myself getting distracted every time there is a scene or two revolving around her. They have definitely shown what a wife goes through when she loses her husband. I do understand the emotionality of it & the sensitivity of it as well but I am not sure why it stops just right there. I don’t find myself getting drawn to Kiran’s character to find out more about her. Maybe, it would’ve changed if some other actor had played that role but I really find it hard to warm up to this particular character or track. Showing Taimoor’s journey through Osma would’ve been enough but to show it through Kiran seems a bit of a stretch, especially how we have recently seen Sonia Mishal playing such a somber role in Neeli Zinda Hai, it literally feels she has walked from one set to another because the mood & the overall vibe is absolutely the same.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This episode of Sinf e Aahan was thoroughly enjoyable. At the end of the episode, I did find the screaming a little too stretched & off-putting. It felt like it just was not stopping therefore I had to lower the TV’s volume. I feel so far Mahjabeen’s character has gotten way more exposure than the rest of them. There is no doubt about the fact that Kubra Khan has played her role to perfection but it’s just that the other characters are special & favorite too. Therefore after every episode, it always feels like none of them got as much attention as Mahjabeen does, which kind of makes me wait for the next episode & then the same pattern repeats. I am definitely looking forward to Pariwesh & Arzoo’s letters to their parents. Also, it seems Nathmy’s search will eventually lead her to her father’s friend & the one helping her out will be Maj. Osama. Overall, the direction & acting of Sinf e Aahan has been very convincing. The writing has been phenomenal too. The execution at times does make things a little stretched but overall, its a wonderful drama to tune to. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sinf e Aahan.

Sindhi film announced after a long gap

Sindh, population wise is the second largest province of Pakistan having rich culture and traditions. Sindhi is also third or fourth largest spoken language in Pakistan. The first Sindhi film Umar Marvi was produced in mid 1950’s and later many Sindhi films were produced. However the circuit of Sindhi cinema was relatively limited as major urban center of Sindh like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukker also consists of considerable non-sindhi speakers. The Sindhi film making ultimately ended till late 1980’s or early 1990’s similar to Urdu and later Punjabi cinema.

Now after a gap of almost two decades drama writer/producer Zakaria Moheyuddin and Ali Masood have announced to produce a Sindhi film Baaghi. Shahbaz Mustafa is the music composer while Anwarul Hassan is the director of this film.

Sindh High Court Orders Aamir Liaquat’s Autopsy-Verdict Out

Popular television host and former PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain passed away on the 9th of June at his residence in Karachi. Aamir Liaquat was found unconscious by his house help and was taken to the hospital with the help of neighbourhood shopkeepers who called the ambulance. He was pronounced dead by the doctor as soon as they reached the hospital.

Sindh High Court Orders Aamir Liaquat’s Autopsy-Verdict Out

Aamir Liaquat’s sudden demise raised several questions and suspicions. People had questions as to what happened to him all of a sudden. Aamir was upset already as his private videos were leaked online but he looked fine physically. Also he was a sitting member of National Assembly of Pakistan, thus the authorities wanted to perform an autopsy to ascertain the real cause of death. His family however, and his heirs, Ahmed and Dua did not want that and took permission from courts for the burial. He was buried in Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine on 10th of June.

Things took a turn when a citizen Abdul Ahad filed a petition in court seeking exhumation and postmortem of Aamir Liaquat’s body. According to him, Aamir was murdered due to a property dispute. Court has heard the matter. Aamir Liaquat’s children maintain that they do not doubt anyone and do not want to hurt their father’s soul with an autopsy.

The court has now announced the verdict and Aamir Liaquat’s postmortem has been ordered as the real cause of death cannot be ascertained until a detailed postmortem is done and internal organs are examined.

Netizens are reacting to the verdict as soon as his postmortem was authorized:
