Recently, Simi Raheal appeared in Fuchsia Magazine’s show in which she discussed about the unfair treatment of Industry with senior actors, she said, “First of all let me tell you that there is nothing like fair treatment in this world, the word ‘Fair’ doesn’t even exist, the answer is, no, the treatment is not at all fair, how can you acknowledge someone’s journey?, you don’t go to one’s place and gift him/her a branded suit, don’t just say that we respect you because this is the sheer disrespect when you are not paying the desired respect to your seniors. In our industry, the scripts are not written for senior actors, in the other parts of world, people tell different stories, we don’t tell different stories, it should be actors’ choice to refuse the characters but here actors can’t choose because of their bread and butter, they are compelled to do same stories”.

Talking further about why it happened, she said, “in PTV’s tenure things were quite okay, there were not much financial issues, creative work was being done, the things got changed after the advertising industry took over, the advertisements require young faces because they are sold, the things changed altogether”

The race or perhaps the silent competition among the best drama channels, to be accurate, Geo TV, Hum TV and ARY digital seems to be on a heavier side for the ARY. Geo, for its telecast of foreign content has suffered lately, whereas, people are often find talking about the repetition of concepts on HUM. ARY has been coming up with some magnificent piece of work just like Mera Yaqeen and Tanhaiyaan-Naye Silsilay which recently came to an end and the new projects are now all ready to replace these in every way possible. What makes this month extremely exciting for the drama viewers is the new drama serial Silvatien that would be aired from 7th February.

Making her debut as a Directer,  Shehrazade Sheikh has given all her experience of assisting Mehreen Jabbar in Daam. The serial is written by Samira Fazal, therefore that itself is an enough valid point to give high TRPs’ to the serial. The cast of Silvatien seems to be carefully chosen as the drama would bring Amina Sheikh with Adeel Hussain once again after Daam. Mira Sethi, the daughter of the famous Journalist (Friday Times) will also be seen in the drama, making her debut. Mohammad Ahmed and Shamim Hilali are also seen in the promos that are been aired on the channel.

Keep your fingers cross for the upcoming drama Silvatein,

Silvatein Last Episode – The End! Thank God.

0

Ohkay, I know I will sound really harsh but I am literally glad that this serial has ended. I am utterly disappointed that a serial which started off at such a nice note can decline to such an extent. I have come across a lot of serials, where, by the end I wished I wouldn’t have seen them because I was unable to draw any conclusion or take anything with me but just regret of wasting so much of a time. Alas! Silvatein has left me empty handed as well. It’s in the category of Zard Mausam, Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Mile, Madiha Maliha for me where by the end I’d say that I & the rest of the viewers wouldn’t have missed much if this drama didn’t hit our screens.

To me this family ONLY seemed good at eavesdropping & then making juices & drinking them, LOL! Because trust me it looked as silly as it sounds right now. Ohkay, there were some itsy bitsy parts where I for sure enjoyed the serial & over-looked the flaws but the end has left me speechless. What did we get to understand after watching this drama? That a few years of bully can make you a NUT like Natasha? Or that amulets & these fake fakirs are not to be trusted? Or that a sister can stoop to such a low level where she wishes such ill for her own sister? I am sorry but I fail to understand all these issues. I know, no one takes a drama to take some preaching from it but yeah a viewer who puts in so much time into it really needs something by the end.

Editing of the drama was absolutely ridiculous where Natasha at one point is crying at the hospital for her baby & on the other is sitting calmly besides her bed wondering what went wrong? Where at such a critical point all the family members should’ve been at the hospital but in stead were fighting & eavesdropping at home.

I totally loved Zeb/Rayaan’s relationship but by the end, seeing how cleanly Natasha walked out of all the mess, I just can not understand why Zeb & Rayaan had to go through such a rough patch. At the beginning of their relationship they promised to stand by each other through thick & thin but how could things turn so turbulent for them? Taweez were doing nothing so why that drive was given to their relation? The whole Mikaal thing seemed un-necessary along with so many other things that surfaced in the last few episodes, because the drama became stagnant in between. If they had covered these things way before they actually did, I am sure it would’ve changed the whole scenario of the drama because the unnecessary prolonging & dragging spoiled everything.

The writer & the director made their point CLEAR again & again & again that Natasha was the evil one who would drive her sister to the death-bed by being pretty much at ease with her conscience but just a minor incident could flip her completely seems a bit hard to digest. Ohkay ohkay, let’s get to that ‘Hidayat’ part that she was guided by her miseries so she eventually came back to her senses but then does it really matter by the end? Sorry, to me it doesn’t. Because I am just not satisfied by a few ‘dhamkis‘ that Bilal terribly gave to her. I must say, Bilal just couldn’t act his heart out during such an intended intense scene & rather looked really uncomfortable raising his voice or crying. Where all this while he was just being a softy for his wife, he should have easily cried too, fitting the image he had set for himself during the course of the drama. I am just not happy that Natasha could shed just a few tears after all the things & in the end can take a walk of ‘happily-ever-after’ with her beau.

Once again I’d mention that in the whole serial, Rayaan was my favorite character who never lost the nerves or the calm even in such horrendous situations. He was too good to be true among all these characters who were bought as a reality but couldn’t make a mark. It was pointed out during one of my reviews by the writer that the two sisters understood each other so well? I mean where did that come from? Because even if we tried hard to see that through our imagination, we just couldn’t. To me one sister was just being silly & the other one was being sillier by acting like a Mother Teressa. I’ll say once again that this was the least in this drama where I could expect seeing the whole peer fakir things. May be it was taken after the new trend of sister rivalry but to add some more spice to it the peer fakir thing was added as a bonus.

During all this while & seeing the parents in the end I just couldn’t imagine how oblivious they were shown as parents. Even by the end they just couldn’t figure out what & why & because of whom Zeb was going through all this. Even in the end where Zeb mentions to Rayaan ‘hamare rishte ki silvatain…’ I mean excuse me? Bilal & Natasha are square after all the lies & deceit & Bilal is smiling satisfactorily after all the bickering & insults but Zeb & Rayaan are still thinking on those lines. It should have been shown completely opposite where Natasha still lingered to earn a respect whereas Rayaan & Zeb walked with their heads held high. Because I really didn’t want them to suffer at all, at all for all the things they did & how they acted as elders for their younger siblings. Zeb, who didn’t have a reason, still took all the blame on herself & took things in her hands to mend the situations but still was belittled by Natasha. I actually disliked seeing Natasha turn into the main lead of the drama with her leap of improvement & all the others were put to shame by not being in the limelight. All the attention shifted to the most negative character of the drama in the end & that isn’t what I expected to see.

Along with Zeb’s job resume, Mikaal’s flick, Rayaan’s unease along with the whole end scene where Rayaan & Zeb still sympathized with the make-believe sacrifices of Natasha was un-necessary for me. I mean were they still so blind or so ‘seedhay saadhay’ to actually see that Natasha could never mean good for them because she was selfish to the core. But I did hear Rayaan (after the exposure of the situation) utter that I understood Natasha way back & way too clearly, so then why was he seen feeling guilty by the thought of Natasha’s gesture of Dua & Taweez for their baby? Another flaw in the dialogues then I guess.

It was a good effort which started off really well but the un-necessary stretch & the weak script left it dangling in between. I came across positive & negative, both the feed-backs about the play but the end put a seal to the verdict that the drama was wasted. I don’t know who is to be blamed but let’s call it even seeing the efforts they have put into this. The cast seems really innocent in this matter because they did put in a lot of effort in doing their best but they themselves didn’t know what they were getting into. I really salute Adeel Hussain & Amina Sheikh for doing justice to their characters & providing us with such a subtle chemistry which really left an impact because if there’s one thing I am going to remember about this drama, it’s going to be their couple.

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Silvatein Episode 6 – Very Interesting

0

So, this episode had so much to offer & so much was going on that I didn’t want it to end. I enjoyed this episode right from where it started & how it ended. All the things were in place & loved to see more of Zeb as well.

The hell broke loose in Natasha’s in-laws when she left for her parent’s place without notifying anyone. She is lucky to have found such a family who cares for her a lot & loved how her MIL was trying to rationalize everything & her behaviour. Natasha’s SIL seems to be a good person but she is very dominating, she wants to know everything that is happening with each & every person of her family. She likes to dictate a lot especially Bilal because he is the youngest one among these siblings. I guess, what Natasha did was wrong plus it’s no way possible that living in a joint family a girl can so easily escape that too on the 2nd day of her marriage.

Zeb, on the other hand was dealing with that aggressive teenager. The condition of his house wasn’t appeasing one that’s why he tried to commit suicide  I loved how Zeb started talking to him on his level, just like a teenage girl who is surrounded by many problems but the biggest one of her problems is her sister. While she was saying all that, I could understand that no matter how hard she tries to convince herself that she doesn’t bother about Natasha but deep down she feels exactly the opposite. She confessed being rude to her younger sister & how she felt bad. Zeb has a very nice character, I must say this again. She could’ve yapped all day long if the guy hadn’t stopped her. It was funny.

Natasha was depressed & was thinking over & over again about Yawar, she even proposed the idea of coming back to him but she once again proved lucky that the guy, Yawar was very decent. He could’ve easily blackmailed her or anything considering how he lives next door but poor guy thought it was his fault that Natasha got married & let her go easily. I really felt bad for Yawar actually.

Natasha was about to utter the dangerous to her Pupho but Zeb intervened at the right time. I loved her explanation & how she tried to talk Natasha out of the idea of leaving Bilal. & this is exactly what Natasha wanted. She always likes to follow what others tell her because she is too lazy to think for herself even, but then all the way long she complains for not being able to make a choice for herself. It was so easy for Zeb to convince her & that very moment she called Bilal to pick her up. I agreed to Zeb when she mentioned that you liked Bilal because I got his proposal but now when I rejected him you’re rejecting it too. Natasha, for sure has this habit of snatching things away from Zeb, this is what Zeb spoke to that young kid about as well. Finally, the truth was revealed easily by Natasha may be because she wanted out from this marriage, that’s why she threw the Zeb-phone-call card on Bilal.

Bilal, Munize & their elder brother’s conversation was once again very well done. I loved how Munize was trying to dig deeper into the situation but a bit too negatively whereas the eldest brother tried to calm the situation down & tried to talk about how Natasha would be feeling. I liked the relation these three share with each-other & they compliment each other a lot. Natasha on her own had packed her bags & was about to leave (which once again is something not possible in a joint family). The way Bilal tried to make her understand her importance & the way he confessed his love towards her was really sweet. I absolutely adored Bilal for saying all such things because he is a nice person.

The funniest scene today was that of Pupho & Mikaal. Pupho very easy escaped from Zeb & said what she had to say to Mikaal. Mikaal got all hesitant & left & then Zeb took situation in her hands. Even though Zeb has been extra sweet with her Pupho & everyone else in her family & relatives but when the time comes she knows how to scream on top of her voice especially when she gets into awkward situations because of others. I loved Pupho’s acting, who was trying to tell that what she did was totally right but was regretful because of Zeb’s reaction towards it. LOL! I find myself laughing at her acting in particular. However, Zeb later apologizes to Mikaal but he easily says he has already spoken to his mother about Zeb. I am sure, this would be the last thing Zeb must’ve been expecting.

I can’t wait to see more of this drama. It started strong but the tangled situation of confusions was ticking me off. Now it has clarified smoothly & I am loving it. All the actors have done a marvellous job & each fits into the character perfectly. Can’t wait to see how Zeb’s life will unfold but now I do not want her to get hooked to Natasha’s brother-in-law because it will make things go wrong again, two sisters in one home would not be something I would want to see.

Cheers,

Silvatein Episode 4 – Get Over With Confusions Please

0

Once again the whole episode kept on stirring the confusions in each & every matter. All this while, it was actually getting on my nerves that why things couldn’t go easy & smooth? Why each & every member of the family was weaving something on their own & feeding it to others. I know, it looked interesting at first, but now it’s nothing less than a mind-teaser.

Natasha, finally got what she deserved. Grabbed Bilal from her sister, when understood that Zeb let go off him, she lost interest in him. Found out about his side job & dependence on his elder brother, she again lost interest in him because now she knows that her ex-bf is going to be well-settled in Nairobi. Like her mother said, that Natasha always wanted what Zeb got, but the moment Zeb gave it to her, she lost interest & now if we look at it, the same thing happened with Bilal’s proposal as well. She was frowning & mentioned in front of Yawar that Zeb has gotten such a nice proposal but when Zeb passed it on to her, she was happy but now she is not. This was the only reason, she was trying to convince her mother to reject the proposal & tried to tell her that she doesn’t want to get married to Bilal using Zeb as an excuse but she wasn’t actually feeling for Zeb, in stead, she was just doing what she is used to, rejecting after getting what she wanted to snatch away from Zeb.

I was once again amazed at how bluntly she lied to Yawar’s face just in a nick of time when that moment arose. She made him suffer & convinced him so cleverly that it was his fault for which she is getting married now. Wow! I couldn’t stop wondering about the speed with which her brain works.

Zeb, on the other hand, once again tried to save Natasha from her Pupho’s suspision. She took Yawar’s blame on her & told her Pupho that if she tells anyone about it a hell would break loose. Natasha should be happy to have found a sister like Zeb, who doesn’t let anything bad slide on her younger sister.

Natasha has now clearly learned that Bilal actually liked the girl to whom he spoke on the phone. Natasha knows it was Zeb & still she kept quiet in front of him. But she came raving about it to Zeb & tried to blame her for getting her hooked to Bilal. I actually do not like her character at all, for all the things she is doing now. She is mean, conceited & someone who only feels for herself & wants the best. Why is she trying to blame Zeb for her condition now? Like Zeb said, she tried to impress Bilal but when she understood that he is not interested, she took a back-track & moved on, but Natasha is now unhappy & trying to make Zeb feel bad.

When the drama began, I thought this would be based on anything but sister rivalry but I was sort of wrong. Zeb, at one hand, states that she is perfectly alright & she herself let go off Bilal but deep inside she is suffering, she is sad & was least interested when she had to attend the function of her sister. Zeb, may not be putting up her opinion about her sister so harshly but Natasha does it all the time.

What I did not enjoy was the lies & a line of lies over & over again that were exchanged from one family member to the other. All I know is that family ties are known for sharing secrets & sharing the inner-most feelings but here it looked like anything but that. Mother was telling a lie to the daughter, daughter was lying to the mother, sisters are lying to each other  I kind of hope that the whole scene of Natasha’s wedding gets over ASAP because it is making me lose interest in this drama. I want to see more of Zeb & how her life turns out to be with Bilal’s elder brother.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Silvatein Episode 3 – Going Strong.

0

So this was another interesting episode of Silvatein with a little more revelation about the two main characters Zeb & Natasha. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it & I give all the credit to Aminah Sheikh for playing the character so realistically. I was never a fan of her but this drama has changed my perspective towards her.

Once again, I was not pleased to see Natasha acting totally weird. She got involved with a guy but when the moment arose she lied right to his face using her sister’s name. No doubt, she is an introvert & may be ‘seedhi saadi, bholi bhali’ to her mother but she is everything but that. I can understand, how all these years she managed to fool her mother but her simplicity but deep inside she is very clever who knows how to act, given the circumstances. The way she lied to her boyfriend & tried to get rid of him was a shocker.

Zeb’s conversation over the phone was once again funny. She acted like Natasha but wanted to hear what Bilal actually feels about Zeb. It was rather cute to see her defend herself as Zeb while she was being Natasha. What I liked about Zeb was that at first she was over the moon with the idea of such a nice guy proposing to her but when she understood the complication of the situation & that their preference was Natasha, she smoothly backed out & not only that, she ended up convincing her mother that she is perfectly fine with the fact that Bilal wanted to see Natasha first. I loved how he untangled the whole situation just by her wisdom & her wholeheartedness.

Natasha, got a boost when she found out that Zeb was rejected by Bilal & he was all in for Natasha. Previously, she was seen a bit depressed by the opportunity that Zeb was getting in terms of Bilal but now she found all the reasons to rub that to Zeb’s face. I totally agreed to Zeb when she mentioned that Natasha is mean & a liar. She acted just in the nick of time & didn’t let Bilal slip out of her hands. If she wanted to be honest, to herself or to her husband-to-be, she could’ve mentioned straight away to Bilal, that it was Zeb who spoke to him on the phone. She is under a false idea that Bilal liked her, however, Bilal in reality liked Zeb after he spoke to her on the phone thinking she was different.

At this point, I can feel that Natasha, due to her cunningness & planning, might see some hard times once she gets married to Bilal, because right now she has begun her relation with him with a lie. I wonder, what will happen when once Bilal will find out that he spoke to Zeb on the phone thinking it was Natasha. One thing that I really couldn’t understand was that when Natasha was already so focused on getting married to a guy who lives abroad, so why did she start her flick with her neighbour? Till now, she is exposed as a person who is not at all emotionally attached to anyone & only feels for herself. I hope things unwind a bit harshly for her, so that she can understand the unfair she has been doing to Zeb.

Till now, I am enjoying Zeb’s character a lot because she is so real. She gets hurt but doesn’t show, she expects people to understand her but no one does, she is outspoken but does feel deep inside. Can’t wait to see more of all this.

Cheers,

Silvatein Episode 22 – Review.

0

Ohkay so some people can never change but the people around & the surroundings can. However, in this case, nothing is changing, neither the people nor the surroundings. I have kind of held it back but I can’t help saying now that the show has shown zero progress in terms of the story. The main focus is just about establishing more & more about the nature of the characters but I guess we know our characters in & out, so when are we moving on?

I mean we all know that Natasha is the one who shows her generosity & the smile she uses miserly at those specific moments when she is hoping for things to turn her way. Every member of the family, after spending a whole lifetime with one & another obviously understand what sort of a nature they share. What’s their mindset & what are they fishing for. In this matter, I tend to get annoyed by the fact that Zeb is being so ignorant of Natasha that she flips whenever she has an ulterior motive. She has proved it over & over & over again, repeatedly, monotonously & continuously but still Zeb is unable to understand that Natasha is plotting something once again.

Ohkay, we all know that Natasha is the evil one & Zeb is the angel, but where does it take us? YES! No where. What good has Zeb’s angelic behavior done to Natasha? Nothing. Why can’t Zeb take things a bit more lightly but maturely like she used to when she was single. I just couldn’t conceive of this fact that we’d get the whole peer fakir thing that too so stretched & dragged & with such details in this story line.

Rayaan has been open about his opinion about Natasha & he is actually right. I understand him completely. His subtlety, his kindness is the best thing for me in this whole drama. The way he is worried about each & every family member including Natasha, despite the fact that he hates her is marvelous. He has personified the ‘head-of-the-family’ label & has earned all the respect because he is entitled to it.

It really bothers me how Bilal blindly trusts his wife Natasha even though she also has been really vocal about her evil plans. No doubt she is sugar-coating all her gibberish in regards to Zeb but he must sit back & think again for a second that what made Natasha change her heart & mind so suddenly for Zeb? I mean c’mon, he’s her husband & no husband is such a fool. The only thing that bothers me for sure is the extremes of the natures of all the characters excluding Rayyan. Zeb’s complete conversion to introversion, Natasha’s constant negativity, Bilal’s unimaginable innocence & awe for Natasha, all this has really made it unreal for me.

Rayyan is the only character which I can actually see as a reality because when he knows how to be sweet & caring, he also can handle the harshness & knows how to extend some too. I hate to see him suffer within because of Zeb’s deaf & dumb treatment towards him. No doubt, she does what every wife do for the husband but is holding so much back, completely forgetting that Rayaan has never given her a reason to not rely on him. He has always been there for her, has always stood up for her, has given her a shoulder to cry on or has been all ears in listening to her problems but Zeb is pretending a bit too much. Rayyan, who is her husband – couldn’t get her candid with him after doing so much for her & even after living with her. But Mikaal, who was her ex-fiance that everybody knew about makes Zeb switches back to her care free mode in front of everyone & especially Rayyan too.

All this mind games have actually made me tired. I think I just can not use any more energy in understanding what is going on behind each & every word that is uttered. I really hope that the story progresses & we come to an end where all these people have a closure with all the issues.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Silvatein Episode 20 – Enough!

0

My apologies for being late in reviewing but actually the last few episodes seemed completely similar with no such progress – hence, no need of reviews. In the last couple of episodes, including this one Natasha kept on blabbering & Zeb kept on absorbing whereas Bilal was being a chicken & Rayaan tried to take some stands on his own. In this episode, there were so many things which I didn’t see coming nor I wanted to see like Natasha approaching some fake peer, Bilal being way too soft & especially Zeb’s parents going against her.

The drama started off with so much to offer as it did make the sibling’s love-hate relationship completely real & relate-able but over the last couple of episodes, the property & the will issue has been dragged to such a point where it is leaving me bored & in such a mental state where it seems harder to take any of such torture anymore.

I know, it’s been a harsh statement so far but the drama has come to a point where it should have taken some positive turns but seems like we have to deal with all this for a few more episodes because I don’t see anything changing at all. Ever since the MIL has died Natasha has lost it, not that she was in her sense before but was a bit subtle in what she wanted out of her life. Now that there is no one to monitor & no one to pretend in front of, Natasha seems like a bull who has gone wild & is hitting every single target left, right & centre. Of all the things, this drama was the one where I never saw the fake peer thing coming. Natasha’s approach has been below the belt & no where near to innocence as it can not be termed as that. She is so cunning that to get what she wants i-e material, she can even ruin her own sister’s life, than what can be expected of her? I thought that the drama dealt with the educated people who have a different approach towards life but the thing related to amulet seemed completely odd considering the feel of the drama.

I understand that the writer has actually tried to justify the title of the drama ‘Silvatein’ but it has gone beyond those tangles which are far away from being undone. Natasha is an eye-sore & is also being such a fiddly bone that is capable of giving anyone a choke at any point in their lives. Ohkay, she wants property, so why can’t she make her point clear once & for all? Why is she beating around the bush & I fail to understand why Rayan wants to rule Bilal? If he can foresee how Bilal will ruin his & his family’s life after being exposed to such a huge amount, then I guess it’s a better shot to just give them in fact give Natasha what she wants just to shut her off.

Rayaan is seeing his wife taking all the pains, she is going through a toughest time ever since she has gotten married to him because of Natasha, she wants to play Mother Teressa to Natasha & Rayaan is being over-possessive about Bilal, which seems out of the picture. No doubt they want things to work out but when they aren’t, I think it’s a best idea to just let them go. Let them do what they want to because no matter what Rayaan will do Natasha will never be thankful.

I hated to see Zeb’s parents blame her for what Natasha has been going through. I mean they’re the parents & no parents in this world are unaware of their children’s nature & attitude, so I guess they’re past that stage where their kids can fool them as they’re quite aged & experienced. So, I guess in stead of buying what Natasha sold them, they should have taken some step in order to calm her down. No matter what, but I do feel & must admit that the writer has actually failed to address the issue clearly that Natasha has. All we have heard is about her complexes that Zeb thinks have arose because of her but she is way too ahead of such complexes & Zeb’s never-ending sacrifices & grasping of her utter nonsense isn’t a solution to any of her issues.

I hope that after getting to know about Zeb’s condition, Pupho uses her brains & exposes Natasha because she went to that Peer through her & I really hope that just because Bilal eavesdropped, (what this family is best at) he doesn’t spread the rumor of Zeb expecting a child, because I do not want to see any more of such schemes of Natasha as I am done!

Silvatein Episode 17 – Review!

I must say I am completely sick of this character Natasha & her scheming but on the other hand the dignity & grace of other characters is keeping me going on this drama.

When the episode began, I got overwhelmed during the conversation between mother & a son but sadly one thing was very disturbing that a mother on her death bed had to actually lie to her son that she was perfectly fine & the son bought that just because he’s such a chicken who can not utter a single word in front of his wife. Another disgusting thing was that Mr. Chicken came to Pakistan just because his wife allowed him. At that point, to be honest, I did not feel that Natasha would change a bit & I was expecting something bigger & worst to happen especially when the will was about to be disclosed & all thanks to her, she proved me right. All this while, we have seen every thing about this character that to expect anything good from her seems like a dream.

Rayyan has done every thing for Zeb & is getting equally in return too but his worry about Zeb’s behavior shows how considerate he actually is. He has seen Zeb when she was emotionally free & laid back but ever since she has started to take burden of others, she has become too serious. I have always loved seeing their bit & today’s was an amazing one too. Their conversation after their function & their discussion was absolutely amazing.

During the course of this drama, I kind of never understood Bilal’s silence & his patience on Natasha’s attitude but today something was revealed very clearly. Bilal is actually in an awe of getting a girl like Natasha as his wife & her continuous bickering & underestimation has left him baffled. He has lost a sense of dignity & has completely forgotten that he is the man in their relation. I totally hate it when after every conversation he is left speechless & then rubs his face in anguish.

Natasha is someone who just loves to make people around her awkward. To actually involve Mikaal in her flick was absurd. Mikaal, for sure has feelings for Zeb, that’s the reason he trusted what Natasha had said. Zeb took that surprise gracefully & actually had no idea what Natasha had planned for her. At that point, I was like notttt againnn because the thought crossed my mind that she might be recording their conversation in her mobile phone to use it as a trap for Zeb when she deems fit. But fortunately nothing of that sort happened but she made Zeb awkward in front of her parents too. Natasha thinks that it’s only Zeb who’d get affected while completely forgetting that her parents would get worried & ashamed too. I think Zeb is taking the sweet elder sis role a bit over-board because at this stunt of Natasha’s, Zeb should’ve done something at least in stead of taking all the blame on herself. I know she is trying hard to make things work but they’re rather getting out of hands.
.
The last scene of the episode was intense where everything was blurted out completely& honestly. I loved when Munize furiously asked Bilal that why was he still silent. Natasha has always been materialistic & is too cunning at such matters, considering her age. For now, I really hope that Bilal swoops in & takes things into his own hand or else I wouldn’t mind to see Rayyan or Zeb slapping Natasha hard on her face for her negativity & stupidity in all that she has done because honestly she deserves this.

Hope to hear from you all.

Silvatein Episode 15 – Review.

Well I must say that Natasha’s repetitive nuisance is getting tedious. I hope to see some change in her may be equal to an ounce but some change in her please.

All this while the only thing that comes as a breath of fresh air of Zeb & Rayaan. Their growing chemistry & their relation is something appeasing. I absolutely love how they both are complimenting each other. I feel that this drama offers such chemistry between the leads which is far better than those few over-rated dramas. This drama, due to the plot may not have gotten the following which it deserves but once you get to know the characters, this is one good serial on-air & I’m glad I am not missing it at all.

All this while I kept on smiling whenever I saw Zeb & Rayaan together. I loved, I loved, I loved their kitchen scene & their confessions a lot. Rayaan is being extra cautious because he doesn’t want to repeat the same mistakes which he thinks he committed while being married to Mahjabeen. & Zeb on the other hand is being cautious as she lost Mikaal because she was being head-strong. For now & for good Zeb is trying to be submissive & forgiving & they both are actually enjoying the benefits of being together just because they tried to make some changes after learning from their bad experiences. All the dialogues that Rayaan said to her came out of respect for her & of all the things he said to her the best one was pointing out why she was blaming herself for everything related to Natasha or how she was acting.

Another thing worth mentioning here was Rayaan’s utmost attention to Zeb & the annoying string attached to her as Natasha. He was being tolerant & ignored whatever Natasha blurted at Zeb’s face in front of her whole family. He wanted to take things in his hands & even tried to dictate Zeb at how she should handle the situation but when Zeb wanted to take over he backed out easily after understanding his wife’s point of view. This shows that he actually holds Zeb really close to his heart & will let her do anything that she deems fit.

I must say Bilal’s submissiveness & Natasha’s dominance is getting a bit boring now. This couple makes things look stagnant. Just when I see them I feel things have stopped & they have lowered the pace of the whole serial a couple of notches. I am seriously getting bored at Bilal now.

I know Bilal is an ideal guy who’d make any girl happy but being submissive doesn’t mean you’re playing your part completely & responsibly. I hate to see Natasha pushing all the wrong buttons & still walking with her head held high all the time. I loved how Rayaan summarized easily that Bilal is the one who bought the situation to this level & now he should handle it. He was so right.

One more thing was revealed about Bilal that he’s such a baby himself. He felt running away after a heated argument was the best way to escape a situation. At that point when Natasha was being chummy with him – I felt finally she has had a change of heart or may be a little but she was actually using the absence of her Jeth & Jethani to brain feed Bilal openly against his & her own sisters. I really hate to see Natasha use Bilal as a stooge & I hate to see him act like such a rain-soaked puppy who has lost his way & is ready to follow anyone blindly. I at first, felt that Bilal was such a perfect guy but ever since Rayaan’s character has jumped in, that feeling of mine has subsided completely.

I hope to see some changes & some progress in their story or else if they’re erased from the whole scene I can continue watching Zeb & Rayaan without a doubt. Similarly, I feel that the scene of Munize’s ban on entering her brother’s home is getting a bit too stretched now, they should either solve it or if not, just leave it at that. There’s no point in reminding us about what Munize’s feeling or is going through in each & every episode. Her character is another confused one because at one point she gets upset & on the other she is all praises for Zeb. By her frowning face & her phone calls, her character is at the verge of making people grow out of her as well.

Well I’m loving the serial in some bits & pieces but these riddles & puzzles are getting hard to handle. I hope I never get to see Natasha again. :)

Silvatein Episode 14 – One thing leads to another!

I absolutely enjoyed the episode thoroughly. It was like a complete package which made me giggle at times too. I must say the writer has done a wonderful job in conceiving these characters & has beautifully executed the misapprehensions, confusions & happiness that each one of them goes through. This episode was based more on the aftermath consequences in regards to something that stirred in the previous episode. I loved how each one of them reacted differently to something that does not even exist or has started to mean something to Rayaan only.

Of all the scenes I just loved Rayaan’s & Zeb’s the most. Their chemistry, their timing was perfect & at one point I felt they make a great on-screen couple. I loved their kitchen scene where Zeb shed off her frustration on him & he kept calm because he knew she has been in such an awkward position ever since she came to US, so now it was the time when she had to let go off all the negativity that she has absorbed in these past few days. Rayaan stood their like an obedient mate who is ready to take anything that comes at him. His little gesture to make peace with Zeb was too sweet & I must say that Adeel Hussain & Amina Sheikh nailed that scene where she is trying to get rid of him but he is actually longing to spend sometime with her. Those minute expressions, those glances & those dialogues were perfect to the perfection.

I feel bad that the character of Natasha lacks even an ounce of positivity. I guess that was the plan that we shouldn’t see anything good in her, but we’re through more than half of the serial & all we have seen about her is how shallow she is. I guess the writer is saving something better for the last but I still doubt that even after such a detailed & long exposure to her negativity we’d be convinced somehow that she still has something good in her.

I hate to see Bilal being treated as a doormat. I know he is a kind-hearted, too-much-in-love kind of a husband, who – being youngest was treated in such a manner all his life that he didn’t need to stand up for anything because his family members held him closer to their hearts, understood him & vice versa. But Natasha is pushing all the wrong buttons & is mean to the core. When she ‘thought’ Bilal talked her parents out of Zeb-Rayaan wedding, she treated him with the respect just for a few seconds that he deserved through out, but later when she found out that things didn’t go the way she had wanted, she stooped to such a level & crossed all the limits that any husband would tolerate. I actually feel sorry for Bilal but I think he should sternly make Natasha understand what her position is & what’s his. Natasha blames Zeb for being materialistic but in reality she is the one who’s filled with materialism & for that particular reason she can not extend any such respect to her husband because he is not at a financial state where she had expected her husband to be.

The funniest scene was of Zeb’s parents. Their excitement, their visit to Rayaan’s mother’s & their awkwardness. It was all so sweet & realistic because any parents would want their daughter to get married to such a decent guy like Rayaan. I’m glad that everyone in the family especially Munize has understood the difference between Natasha & Zeb. Now everyone knows what Natasha is capable of & she is going to be in some deep trouble. Whereas, Rayaan, who hated Zeb like anything has started to find her opposite to what he had presumed about her. All the family members are getting the chance to get to know Zeb up-close & in person where Natasha is not their to cloud their opinions. Hence, Zeb will eventually make a place of her in every ones heart.

I loved the episode & special mention would be about the dialogues which are written with attention & perfection. I must say – hats off to the writer for handling such a story induced with so many small & rapid confusions & yet every time coming out of them so smoothly.

Silvatein Episode 13 – Natasha’s Worst Nightmare

0

Poor Natasha, she brings it on herself. Despite having such an adoring and may I add, sexy, husband she is still so pissed and moody all the time. Even when Zeb was comfortably away in Pakistan helping out Dilawar, Natasha could never crack a smile. Such people make me feel sad for humanity really but hey, maybe she’s going to change in the end.

The thing which touched my heart most in this episode was the way Muneeze behaved. Unlike her brothers, she does not get intimidated by Natasha and when Natasha came to her house, she did not hesitate to give her a piece of her mind. After all, Natasha has some guts! Banning Muneeze from coming to her house and then showing up at Muneeze’s doorstep as if they are best of friends. Muneeze truly is an admirable person, who found it in herself to forgive Zeb who appears to have truly reformed.

I was also glad to see that Mikaal and Zeb continue to be friends, despite the breaking of their engagement. I felt that their friendship, one borne from a common desire to help others, was much more important. Perhaps, Mikaal was only meant to be her friend, who was not fully at ease with Zeb and her freedom.

It was ever so dramatic when Natasha was cruelly and unfairly sending Zeb back to Pakistan (while Natasha herself was the one to blame for the scene at Muneeze’s house!) and Rayaan stepped in and revealed that he wanted to propose to Zeb. Rayaan and Zeb will make a perfectly cute couple and I hope sincerely that they do end up married, despite Natasha’s earnest efforts to the contrary.

Another thing which should happen is that if they do get married, they should totally get another house, away from the crazy Natasha. Natasha is a real piece of work and I cannot imagine how someone could be so mean and angry all the time. It makes me shudder to think of how their childhood must have been. Sisters should always love another and moreover avoid petty rivalries. Otherwise, these rivalries grow so much that they make you completely horrible people. So for everyone out there, give your sibling a great big hug!

As for the serial, let’s see how it turns out. We have a real storm coming when Mikaal and Zeb’s parents get to know of the proposal. What do you think? Should Zeb accept Rayaan’s proposal and find her own happiness? Tell us in the comments!

Silvatein Episode 11 – Impossible.

0

One word that kept on popping in my mind the whole time I was watching the episode was ‘IMPOSSIBLE’. There are so many points in which all the characters have diligently justified this word. I am glad that the drama is turning out to be more meaningful & is now showing clearly the paths of Natasha & Zeb. There are some disappointments, not in regards to the drama but at how the characters are unwinding their lives for themselves.

Natasha is one lucky girl who has found everything that a girl needs to stay happy BUT she is trying so hard to ruin it. I was kind of shocked to see how cleanly she mentions to Rayaan that she is not feeling at home because Bilal has no say in the business. Even though she’s the youngest but she is not at all innocent for her age. She has her ways of making things work only for herself & that justifies her as nothing but ‘mean’. It was rather unpleasant to see her degrading her husband just because he works under his brother, & for this reason, Natasha should lower her silliness a couple of notches down.

Natasha’s in laws & her husband are perfect people, except Munize & Mahjabeen, but none of the other family members have ever given her a chance to complain about anything. She does what she likes, she can do whatever she wants & still she was treating her husband like some doormat. I don’t quite get what she actually wants? She wanted to go to USA, she got it. She wanted a good husband, she has found a guy much much better than her but still she has some serious issues going on & all this while she was just acting like someone who’s so hard to be with. She indeed turned out to be impossible.

Of all the silly things she has done, her funniest were the Skype session & the price tag on the shirt. She looked really DUMB that all this while she was actually posing in front of her mother that she is in a bliss but when she actually is blessed, she is not understanding it’s importance & is being unthankful. No doubt Meera Sethi has done a wonderful job as Natasha but this character is unbearable now.

What Zeb did was wrong too. She has gotten herself so much involved in Dilawar’s family & their problems that she didn’t even want to think about the problems that could arise due to her lack of interest & trust in her relationship & in her fiancé  Mikaal & Zeb were both right in their own ways but what Mikaal expected of Zeb wasn’t something impossible or major. He just wanted her to trust him & stick to what she has promised. He was actually right that just at the beginning of their relation if she starts hiding things, they will have a huge trust issue when they will move forward. They were really good friends & Zeb took him that way more seriously that she did when he became her fiancé  which was Zeb’s fault. I guess she got over with the engagement thing too quickly & felt herself trapped because may be all this while she has lived independently & has made her own decisions, that’s why she was finding it hard to do what Mikaal expected of her. I so wanted to shake Zeb to wake up for what she was doing when she was letting Mikaal go. How could she lose such a gem of a person so easily? It was sad to see that happen.

Their engagement ended a bit too suddenly & without any major issue that could actually end a long-term friendship & the engagement. Plus Zeb has always been running away from Natasha because she knows she’s intolerable, so how easily could she agree to visit her sister, knowing on what terms they both have parted? Munize was being impossible too. She on her own is right that why just because of some nasty sister-in-law, she shouldn’t visit her brother’s place but Munize should understand that her brothers are married & do not need a finger to hold onto just so that someone could lead a way. She is younger to Rayaan so she should act that way.

Overall, I loved the episode & especially the conversations Zeb had twice with her mother & once with her father. They were so simply written but carried such huge meanings. Plus now we know how Zeb & Rayaan will end up together as she is visiting Natasha. I find it a bit amusing that Munize is so over the two sisters that she doesn’t want to face them, I can’t wait to see what explosion would happen in her mind when she will find out that Rayaan is interested in Zeb now too. I love the pace of the drama & how the story throws something new every-time we watch it. Share your views.

Silvatein Episode 10 – Natasha: Sister or Enemy?

0

What an interesting series of events & a few very intense conversations. That’s what we expect & get to see in Silvatein every week. Even though when it started I thought all the haphazardness might subside eventually but it has become the identity of this drama. You don’t know what to expect from whom & how? All the conversations are so intelligently written that they leave you with so many different impressions at the same time about a single person. I must say the brainstorming behind this drama is worth an applause.

Aha! Once again it was clearly shown that Natasha is a ‘wanna be Zeb’. She mentions to her mother after her visa arrives that I always wanted to go to America especially how Zeb always yapped about how USA is & what not. It is clearly evident that she tries so hard to go through all such things that Zeb is going through or actually creates such circumstances for herself where she wants to act like Zeb. She is anything but childish & that too a spoiled one. I don’t think she has ever gone through a lack of attention that she claims because her mother is always supportive of her in whatever she does. It’s not that her mother has spoiled her but she has had her share of attention from everyone too & no interruptions in whatever she used to do has made her what she is now.

It was rather aweful how Natasha kept on targetting Zeb in front of her in laws. Just because she thinks that currently Munize is disappointed by Zeb means Natasha is always going to maintain that situation, which is impossible. Munize based her opinion on a few things she got to know that too through Natasha indirectly but once Natasha will start living with her in laws, I am sure she would have to work extremely hard in order to impress everyone because for now she is not ready to accept the complexity of things. For Natasha, her marriage is all about shopping & living independently with her husband with huge house & a car, which every girl of that age does dream about, but she must know that reality is a bit different from illusions & fantasies. Natasha tried really hard to put Zeb in an awkward position in front of her in-laws but Zeb, due to her wisdom still tried to rationalize Natasha’s behaviour.

The best scenes for me through out the episode were those of Zeb & Mikaal’s. They share such a nice relation, they are best buddies but still have a few inhibitions in speaking openly about their feelings to one another. I loved their engagement scene where at one point they seems so candid with each other but on the other they were trying so hard to act like newly engaged couple & still it wasn’t so easy for them because Zeb couldn’t imagine Mikaal speaking to her romantically. It was rather cute. I love how Zeb does think right on her part but Mikaal is still always there to correct her by showing the other side of the picture. That was pretty evident in Dilawar’s case.

I absolutely enjoyed how Zeb acted all naive in front of Munize & easily slipped out of that situation. She on her part is right that whatever she uttered to Natasha was in ignorance & had no idea that Natasha would make such a huge fuss about it & will use the whole issue against Zeb. Munize, for now is judging Zeb on that matter however she is completely unaware of what Natasha can pull off when she goes into that tangent. The scene where Natasha arrives in USA spoke a lot about something fishy. I am sure Natasha’s life there is not going to be so smooth as she thinks it would be. Her in-laws are not that clean & cool like she thinks they are. I am sure she would have to face a lot more difficulties of some other level because till now she had to deal with Zeb & the dis-likeness towards her. Natasha had her mothers support every time if she had any conflicts with Zeb but now she is on her own & seeing how childish, immature & impatient she is, she might get herself involved in something huge.

What Natasha spit in front of Mikaal was intolerable. Just out of her anger & hatred towards Zeb she said what she shouldn’t have. Mikaal’s reaction & his worry about Zeb’s behavior was so realistic because he is the one who cares about every single thing Zeb has gone through & all the problem she faces. For now, he hated to see her bickering with her immature sister because he couldn’t believe Zeb could stoop to that level too. Zeb’s justification seemed so sweet & how she re-assured him of her maturity was appeasing to see. She is slowly & steadily getting more involved in her relation & is getting to understand the importance of Mikaal & their relation.

The question is now getting bothersome at how Zeb will turn out to be with Rehaan? For now she is engaged to Mikaal & I hope nothing bad happens to him because he is a gem of a person & I would hate to see anything happening to their couple. I hope the Dilawar case does not affect them both because now it does seem to have some connection or I hope Natasha does not hound them both due to her frustration.

Silvatein Episode 09 – Review!

0

I thoroughly enjoyed today’s episode as it has progressed a lot. The pace of the show seems spot on & each & every episode is promising something new with a little more interesting revelations which are definitely helping me getting hooked to this drama.

In today’s episodes, I actually found a few conversations beyond perfect & felt they had been written by heart. The first one undoubtedly has to be Munize-Mother conversation than that of Zeb-Mother’s & also Mikaal-Zeb conversation as well. I also liked how bluntly Munize confronted Zeb & the heated discussion of Bilal & Rayaan was done beautifully too.

I loved how Munize was actually for a second taking a back-seat & was running away from the mess she thought was created using her name but the way her mother without even listening to her side of the story, helped her with her wisdom that too subliminally was a high point for me in this whole episode. Finally, there was a time when we all got to see that Munize wants & needs to depend on someone too, no matter how dominant she might be or think of herself as an authority, she still has a few weaknesses when it comes to handling a situation.

It was good on her part to talk face to face with Zeb about the whole issue but she did not even listen to what Zeb had to say. Well, at that point Zeb, herself had nothing much to comment on because she knew she spurred a lie in front of Natasha which came out of a thin air due to Mikaal & her conversation, but a little did she know that how quickly it would materialize & will confront her as a reality.

Mikaal was right that Zeb should actually apologize to Natasha & her whole family but then again I do understand Zeb when she mentioned that she had no grounds to begin her apology with. She would actually sound like a dumb-headed person if she went over to Natasha’s place & blabbered about how Mikaal made a wildest guess about Rayaan’s situation. It was funny to see Zeb stir some fun in such a tensed moment too when she compliments Mikaal on how impressive he was with his assumption. I absolutely love their friendship & how they both compliment each other as friends, Mikaal is a true gentleman, who knows all the shortcomings of Zeb but is still madly in love with her.

Natasha seemed over the moon & was fluttering like a butterfly in the whole house because now she knows there isn’t even a single person in her in-laws who likes Zeb. She was insecure with Zeb’s friendship with Munize but now she knows it has gone down the drain too. That’s why she was all smiles because she knew that the ball is in her court & she has succeeded in taking over the Zeb fever that a few family members of her had. I loved seeing Zeb trying to act like nothing happened & she was not at fault rather she just presented her opinion about Rayan at what a failure he was.

To see Bilal in an awkward position was a sight, he did not know what actually happened but still was trying to undo his brother’s rage. The funniest was, Rayan also passed some analytical critique about Zeb but I am sure they both will grow over it & will definitely fall for each other. I am kind of glad that his non-existent wife Mahjabeen is already subsiding. One thing that struck me was Munize’s comment that Bilal quoted that she thinks we rejected Zeb that’s why she is trying to get her revenge. At that point, I was like URGH! She is one assumption queen. She has spent time with Zeb & that’s the last comment she should pass about her because Zeb is not that childish & she has stated over & over again that she is perfectly fine with the marriage of Natasha & Bilal.

Over all, the whole episode was totally interesting & I felt it should not end & just go on & on & on except the Dilawar case of course, because those few scenes were seem to be dragged with Zeb’s repetitive dialogues about Dilawar & his family’s mental state. A few dialogues no doubt shed a light on the reality beautifully but I hope this thing gets over ASAP. Can’t wait for the next episode as I am enjoying this one a lot more now.

Silvatein Episode 08 – Get Ready For More Confusions!

0

Once again many aspects were covered in the drama & a lot more progress was shown in the relations but on the other hand a whole new lot of confusions have built up again. I did enjoy Zeb’s scenes the most but on I still do wonder why the drama is named ‘Silvatein’? I guess a better title would’ve been ‘Uljhanain’ based on how much confusions are surrounding each & every character.

Before saying anything I must confess that I missed Pupho a lot, she was someone who brought spark to the drama & had a very interesting influence on the whole family but now when she is out of the picture, their family seems incomplete with no much fun. She single handedly bought so much flare to the serial that I wish we do get to see more of her & hear her opinion about Zeb & her life.

Mikaal & Zeb have a very very unique sort of a relation but Zeb was oblivious of Mikaal’s feelings, that’s why she considered him as her best friend & someone to lean on emotionally. His proposal has not changed anything for Zeb because she is a clear-headed person who knows what she wants out of what & who carries what importance in her life. She is ready to get married but does not see Mikaal, her best friend, as her life partner because it does get odd at times. Some relations are better as friendships but to go a step ahead does spoil the charm that they carry.

In today’s episode, it was good to see how Natasha has started to build up her relation with her husband & how candid they have gotten with each other  she is not holding back in sharing anything & that’s exactly the sort of a relationship a husband & wife should share. Natasha is even too vocal about her MIL & SIL in front of her husband & Bilal is understanding her point of view, which makes him a perfect guy. Natasha, however, did mention that she hated seeing Munize spending time with Zeb & she even mentioned that first she had to put up with Zeb but now there’re two ladies of that sort. It clearly shows that Natasha is a shallow person & can not tolerate anyone else who grabs the attention be it positively or negatively but she just can not tolerate not being in the limelight forever & does not want to understand any strong personality, however, she should consider that her husband matters the most, if he is willing to give her an undivided attention than she should not put too much brains into other petty or nominal things. She needs to cope up with things a bit more wisely & should go with the flow.

I must say that at one point in the whole episode I felt Natasha was such a ‘wanna be’. When she heard her parents talk that Zeb’s criteria of getting married did not involve materialism, she got shocked & then tried to convince herself & confessed in front of Bilal too that nothing will spoil their relationship especially money. Whereas, in the beginning of the drama, it was clearly shown that she wanted a well-settled guy with a sound financial background to get married to because she thought this was Zeb’s criteria too, example can be taken from her conversation with Yawar where she mentioned furiously that Zeb has gotten such a good proposal of Bilal based on how he was settled in USA with a good job etc & how she convinced Yawar on getting a job abroad too. It really shows that she wants to adopt things from Zeb but does not want to admit that ever, in front of anyone else or even herself. It’s a universal fact that your Parents & than your elder siblings are your very first, in fact life long institutions where you always get to learn one thing or the other. So, Natasha should gracefully accept this fact that Zeb is great at certain things & her approach towards life is better than hers & even if she adopts something from her or takes an inspiration, she should whole-heartedly give Zeb her due credit for it. Even Zeb talked her out of ending her marriage with Bilal & that very moment she agreed & went back with him, shows she really does follow what Zeb says but is too egoistic to give any acknowledgement to Zeb for playing such a pivotal role in her life.

Another mean move of Natasha was when Munize put forward her opinion about the guys she knew in USA for Zeb as marriage prospects, Natasha tried to convince that Zeb is much happier in Pakistan. She does claim that she doesn’t care about Zeb or anything but it looks like her day starts off with Zeb & ends at thinking about her too & on the other hand, Zeb is least bothered about anything Natasha says or does because she has a lot more going on in her life.

In the last episode, when Mikaal mentioned to Zeb that Rehan is having a trouble in his married life, I was like why did he say such a thing & what could’ve been a continuing link of such a claim but it got clarified in today’s episode. It had to be used to create a havoc & burst Natasha’s paranoia bubble too. LOL! I loved how Zeb smilingly handled Natasha’s insulting rant that too in front of Mikaal but she just used one-liner to bring her to the other tangent which she desired. Zeb, easily said such a thing without even thinking for a second but Natasha blew everything out of proportion. I must say that such type of girls do face a lot of difficulties because it’s not always a good idea to just blabber every single detail in front of the in-laws without even thinking. She did not even re-confirm it from Zeb but just in such a heated moment she took what Zeb said way too seriously & created a whole new issue out of it. Natasha even assumed that Munize must’ve said such a thing to Zeb & it was funny to see Munize’s frowning face. Now, I am sure Munize’s attitude will change towards both, Natasha & Zeb & she will stop comparing the two.

Viewers might think differently about Zeb or may think that she is cunning but if one really wants to understand her character, it’s the best to judge her on how she treats Dilawar & his family. Even after, two life-threatening attempts, she is dedicated & has a conviction of doing good for that family. She deal with them softly, at times violently, but deep down she cares for them the most. & that’s what her character is & if we compare her younger sister to her, she is completely conceited, different & loves to think about herself ONLY.

I’ll wrap up by saying that I really do wish to fast forward & see what solution or conclusion was deduced out of this new confusion & how each & every person reacted. I am really enjoying this drama because it is realistic & no doubt it truly shows how easily just in a spur of a moment such huge things can arise & a little lack to wisdom puts you in such awkward positions. Everyone has done a great job, the direction is superb & the actors are effortlessly portraying the reality through their characters. I am glad this drama has a lot more to offer & I can’t wait to see more of it.

Silvatein Episode 07 – Good Developments.

0

I kind of enjoyed tonight’s episode. It had many things going on within & with each & everyone.

It seems like Natasha has had a transformation from a spoiled brat to a wise housewife. She seems to have made her place in her family & gels in quite well with each & everyone. She was also seen taking responsibilities on a smaller scale & was also regretful for her behaviour in the early days of her marriage. One thing that took me by surprise was that Bilal mentioned staying with Natasha for a FEW MONTHS now, whereas Zeb is still attending that aggressive kid Dilawar. It kind of looked like a mistake that why would Zeb be going to his place if a couple of months have already passed?

Natasha is paying extra attention to her new family & especially she is in complete compatibility with Bilal, which was good to see because Bilal being a gentleman has taken care of Natasha the way he promised her, I am sure this is the reason she has had a drastic change. One more thing could be that in her in-laws, she is treated as a centre of attention all the time. Each & every member has the name of Natasha in every conversation they have & in her own house she always has shared the attention with Zeb. In fact, Zeb was showered with a little more from all the members of their clan, that’s why Natasha always had a rift with Zeb.

Munize looks more like a saas to Natasha than her actual MIL. Munize’s mother is least bothered about what is happening & who is feeling what because she has indulged herself into her own activities. I loved the conversation Zeb had with Natasha’s BIL. Whatever he said was true & that hit the spot for Zeb considering the situation she was in. Another thing that is worth mentioning is that I loved how the MIL rationalized Natasha’s attitude & thinking towards Munize & Zeb’s idea of spending time together. Natasha was seen in full glory of positivity till she knew that no such character like Zeb was hovering around her & claiming her part of attention but the moment she heard that Munize is having a girls day out with Zeb, she stooped back to her level & once again left the house without notifying anyone, just because she wanted to act like a cry baby in front of her mother. I loved her MIL’s honesty about how she felt at what Natasha had just said. She even proposed the idea of being up front & directly talking to the person involved rather than beating around the bush in front of someone who is not even in the scenario.

One thing that has totally ticked me off is the twist & story of Dilawar & his whining mother. I am not at all willing to see those faces again & I even fail to understand the kind of a project Zeb is working on which involves going to a certain teenager’s house & give them the lectures? She was in a creative field as far as I remember, at the beginning of the drama, but how come now it seems that she is working voluntarily for some NGO? I kind of fail to understand her job & her designation & c’mon who would waste their time & energy on such a spoiled, dangerous looking teenager? I hope I don’t get to see more of them because it looks like a misfit in the whole drama. May be his flick was introduced because in the meantime writer wanted to move things on with Natasha, so in stead of making Zeb look like someone who’s got nothing to do, the idea of this suicidal teenager was introduced.

Over all, I really enjoyed the episode & it kind of makes me smirk at how these two sisters do not hold back in mentioning each other’s negatives in front of the outsiders. Natasha was seen doing these sort of things in front of Yawar & Bilal too & Zeb has mentioned about Natasha’s negativity in front of Mikaal & even Munize now too. Munize, very clearly told that we siblings are over-protective about one another so I think Zeb being a wise person should understand & she should be cautious to not loose talk about Natasha so casually in front of her SIL.

Silvatein Episode 02 – Incessant Confusion

0

Oh boy, so this episode of Silvatein was totally based on the marriage proposal & the confusion attached to it. At one point it was interesting to see & on the other it left me thinking what was going on? I couldn’t understand at some points & then a few points were clear.

Zeb’s now regretting after she has convinced her Pupho to be with them. The whole family is shaky because of her decision to stay. The episode over all was well directed & executed but then it had a few loopholes as well. Firstly, I couldn’t quite get Natasha’s attitude? She is involved with this guy, with whom she is either on the phone at 3 AM in the morning or on the messages. She has told him all about her family & the timely tiffs she has with her sister Zeb. But then later, at his mention of the proposal we saw her getting irritated & later asked Zeb to get her rid of him? What sort of an attitude or nature is that? Then on the phone she spoke to him about getting settled in UK, USA, Australia or Canada, which left me thinking that she is a practical opportunist who wanted to convince that guy to move abroad especially after she got to know that Zeb has gotten a proposal of an American national. Her dialogue that Zeb gets everything perfect was a but awful. Who thinks on all such lines when the whole family is just in a state to get to know more about the guy only?

Zeb’s mention of her Green Card was nothing new. These are the two words that we, Pakistanis do hear ever since we are born. No matter if we don’t understand what the Green Card is but we know that something of that sort exists. These days it is something even worth considering if one is planning to get married. Guys flaunt about it & girls tend to get touchy, wondering they have conquered the whole world after getting it & if anyone approaches them for marriage, they are definitely interested in the Green Card. No doubt, this was a materialistic depiction but was an exact representation of the reality that prevails in our society.

The whole rishta thing was totally confusing but was handled perfectly. The timing of the scenes was perfect & the revelation too. First, Pupho mentions about the rishta for Zeb, however Bilal’s family is talking about Natasha. It left me wondering that how can her Pupho commit such a mistake. That was the first confusion that arose in my mind. Later Zeb called Bilal saying she was Natasha. At that point I thought this was such a huge flaw because Pupho didn’t mention that they were interested in Natasha but how come Zeb got to know about it? But then later I understood that definitely Zeb didn’t want to openly talk about the proposal with the guy, that’s why she used her sister’s name. Then another twist was before the actual meeting. Pupho got to know that her friend has talked about Natasha to the guy’s family but Pupho just wanted to cover her mistake as she wanted this proposal for her favourite niece Zeb that’s why she was persistent that Natasha shouldn’t come in front of the guests & convinced Zeb that she shouldn’t get worked up if they called her with some other name.

The whole situation was funny but was totally confusing. It was a wise decision that Bilal’s sister spoke about the whole thing in front of Bilal & her mother & the viewers weren’t left solving the riddles themselves, because at one point I really felt it was nothing less than a puzzle, but then everything settled in perfectly. Pupho is someone who pays less heed to where she should be responsible but pays extra attention to the minute details involving others, just so that she can nitpick.

Most of the conversations were written very nicely because I could actually feel the reality every dialogue held. Nothing was fictional or unrealistic, exaggerated or anything. The actors have acted each & every scene perfectly. The one thing that made this drama appeal to me was how naturally everything was unfolded in front of the viewers where they all can relate to it, either in terms of the situations or the conversations. I am definitely looking out for more especially Pupho’s character which can get annoying but has a humour related to it too. Till now Natasha’s character is failing to leave any impression. I thought she was introvert but was honest, but in the episode it got a bit more clarified that she is silent but is planning a lot, she wants everything perfect for her that too according to her taste, however Zeb is a bit outspoken, independent but she is honest & submissive, which makes me like her character a lot more. Plus a little suggestion that with such a haircut, Natasha looks better with the tied hair, I think she shouldn’t wear her hair down because it doesn’t give her a feminine look.

Have your say on the whole confusion readers. :)

Silvatein Episode 01 – Great Start

0

So here’s another story about two sisters Zeb & Natasha. After seeing so many dramas based on the sister rivalry, when the first scene started I was like ohkay here we have another one of that kind. But amazingly that whole thing changed as the episode progressed.

Zeb is an extrovert, 29 y/o unmarried working girl who is the favourite one of all & Natasha is kind of introvert & reserved. Two sisters are definitely different. Coming from a house full of sisters I could so much relate to their relation. Sisters, at one moment are best buddies sharing secrets & at the very next moment are in the competition, with one another. All the leg-pulling, light hearted sarcasm that those two shared seemed so much in place & perfect. That is how this relation in particular can be described. I am actually amazed at how easily & realistically they showed the relation of the sisters. I am glad finally we don’t have another drama based on the unrealistic story where one sister is the victim & the other one is a husband-grabber. This drama definitely came as a fresh air where two sisters have their own characters, a unique sort of a relation & are totally appeasing to see.

The first episode seemed promising & had a tint of humour to it too. They have a very peaceful family with two daughters & the real game begins when the Pupho has arrived & is planning to stay with them for good. Zeb’s regret for being extra sweet was worth a laugh. Pupho seems like a person with a dominating nature. She is obviously someone who’s hard to please & is looking for nitpicking especially where her brother’s wife is involved. Zeb’s father seemed like a calm person who has the stamina to ignore his sister’s dominance or may be he doesn’t even notice. The conversation which the couple exchanged in regards to Pupho was so nicely done, where the wife is complaining & the husband is unable to see how she was being taunted by his sister.

All the table talks looked so simple yet real that I couldn’t stop wondering how nicely they have portrayed the truth. ‘Gosht accha hai but lehssan k jalne ki halki si smell hai’. This line described so many of such relatives that each one of us come across. There are a few relatives & at times the immediate ones who are displeased with almost anything which one does & all the frustration comes out at the dinning table where they really can not ignore even the non-existent mistake. The bhabhi-nand relation is shown perfectly where one woman always has a few issues of her own with the other. Where one really can not comment but is suffering within herself. I am sure as the story will progress, we’ll have a lot more see & discuss.

Natasha is obviously involved with a guy & is cut off from the rest of the world. She has a support of her mother but no one else actually connects with her. Zeb on the other hand knows how to be loved & how to give love. I find Zeb’s character absolutely interesting. So far, I have no issues with anything which has been portrayed. Till now it looks totally realistic & relate-able & I thoroughly enjoyed the whole episode. Can’t wait to see what’s coming up in the next episode. I hope this writing of Samira Fazal leaves a mark on the viewers too.

Silvatein – Episode 5

0

Ohkay so this whole episode revolved around Natasha. Her wedding, her expectations, her complaints, her mood swings.

The wedding was wrapped up quickly so as to shed more light on the post-marriage issues. Natasha, the moment her day started was not at all happy with how her wedding was coming along. She disliked being getting ready at home & hated that the venue of her wedding was the garden of her own house with a simple menu for the guests. It’s ok, being a bride one does expect a lot & want their wedding to be perfect but what’s the point of nagging about the things which can not be changed?

Natasha was acting all mean & rude. She had no courtest for her wheelchair ridden MIL who was happy for her son’s wedding. Natasha made a fuss about all the things & the funniest scene was the Skype session where every family member was in sync with the jokes they cracked but Natasha was like a fish out of water. Her nagging on tiny bit things totally showed what sort of a spoiled brat she is. Which bride does not know that there are going to be some norms & customs which each & every family celebrates once the new bride steps in their homes? Every bride knows that the wedding day is going to be a long one but Natasha expected that Bilal should have bid good bye to everyone & should’ve spent time with her which was impossible. Actually, she wasn’t happy about Bilal & his job, that’s why she was nitpicking on the smallest details too.

She came out to be as a person who just doesn’t like anything good happening to her as well. First she was jealous of Zeb for getting the proposal of Bilal but when she grabbed it by luck, she got over it ASAP. The way she ran back to her parents & started backbiting about Bilal showed she is one of those lasses who create the mishaps for themselves with their own hands. Her wedding was anything but that which she expressed & felt about it.

Zeb, on her own was dealing with her wedding properly. She was seen quite indulged in all the things that were happening around. Her mother’s discussion with Zeb after the rukhsati was quite overwhelming. She was just sitting there helpless like any other parent who’d feel the same sense of sadness once their daughter leaves their home for good. She was sympathizing with Natasha for no good reason because she didn’t know Natasha is trying to come back to that house once again.

I really am unable to understand what the character of Natasha actually wants out of her life? Does she has some sort of a disease of restlessness or she hates being happy? Let’s see how Zeb’s life would unfold. Another thing that came as a surprise was that Bilal’s elder brother is married however I thought he would be in pair with Zeb, may be the story will turn out to be like it.

Silah Episode 04 Review – The End!

Ohkay so, I think I have given this drama more time than it deserved. Even though the pre-cap of the next episode did suggest that things might change & Maryam & Taimur might enter a new phase in their lives but I still believe it is not going to be entertaining enough to watch those characters whom I haven’t warmed up to. The director did show us everything we wanted to know in the first 4 episodes but to be honest, none of it was enticing enough for me to keep going with this play so I think I’ll stop here!!!

This episode offered absolutely nothing & the pace was so slow that even staring at my mobile phone wasn’t making the time roll faster than usual. Silah is the sort of a drama that you can play in the background while doing your chores because it doesn’t require your utmost attention & the moment the scenes begin, you know what they are going to show beforehand because everything is so typical & predictable that you’ll have an idea without even paying attention!

Taimur’s parents decided not to budge & they proved to be more typical than normal. Nargis planned Taimur’s engagement with her niece without even asking Taimur about it because according to her, she was doing everything for Taimur’s better future. Nargis & Ehsan weren’t thrilled with the idea of Taimur dating a girl from a mediocre background & they didn’t hold back in showcasing their disapproval about his affair with her. I found it amusing that despite hearing from Taimur that he wasn’t ready to get engaged to his cousin, his parents not only invited Mishal’s family over for a dinner but chose to hold an engagement ceremony too without Taimur’s knowledge!

Like I said in the previous review, it seemed that Maryam’s parents didn’t want her to get married because they were depending on her keeping future in their minds but that thing was discussed by Maryam’s sisters in this episode where they spoke about how Maryam brings a few bucks by giving tuition because of which Aleem was also concerned that if he will marry Maryam off, how will he keep their family afloat!?!?! See, I told you already that all the situations & scenarios are so typical that you don’t even need to watch the future episodes to predict what is going to happen next!

Anyways, Taimur gets to know that his parents got him engaged to his cousin & then he asks Maryam if she will be able to take a stand for him? Oh bhai pehle khud to stand le lo, baad mai Maryam se poochna. Well, Aleem spots Maryam & Taimur together & tries to knock some sense into her that Taimur won’t get married to her because if he wanted he would’ve sent his parents to her home. Also, apart from all this, may I ask, which century does Razia belong to? She implied that sending daughters to university meant giving them a licence to flirt with boys? Seriously!?!?!?! Anyways, Maryam tries to make her parents understand that Taimur is sincere but looks like her delusion will be short-lived & she will get to know that Taimur can’t take a stand for her & they will become this star-crossed couple, jinko dekhne se behtar hai app balcony main kharay ho ke asmaan mai aslee sitare hi dekh lo because that activity will be more enjoyable than watching this drama actually!

Anyways, I am done with Silah or shall I say Dr. Maryam. I remember long time back I saw a list of comparisons between our actors & actors from the rest of the world who had some resemblance in their looks, so in that list someone had suggested that Ainy Jaffrey looked like Kristen Stewart, I will say that she does, but not only in terms of facial features but also in terms of acting too, because she is just as expressionless as Kristen Stewart. Farhan Saeed’s acting & presence in the drama didn’t give me anything to talk about so I will pass. Anyways, for those who’re watching this drama, I wish them good luck & happy viewing because it most certainly wasn’t a happy reviewing experience for me. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Silah/Dr. Maryam!

Silah Episode 03 Review – Totally Unimpressive!

Ohkay so, before saying anything, I’d like to put it out there that there’s no doubt about the fact that this drama might be working for those who are just watching it for time pass but when it comes to reviewing dramas like these, they get tedious & offer nothing to discuss because of being way too typical & the situations being way too similar to what we have seen in a lot of dramas before. I am sure those who must be watching it must be liking it but yes, for me as a reviewer, this drama is not working at all. I think I will give may be a couple of episodes more a go to see it if works & if it doesn’t I’ll stop reviewing it because I don’t think this drama is worth the time & effort that goes into reviewing. Yes, may be just for the sake of finding out how the story unfolds, I might binge-watch it later but for me to continue with the reviews, it will have to offer something very promising at least!

Things were way too typical to begin with. Maryam’s father shooed away all those ladies who came for a proposal of their son because they got interested in Maryam & not Farkhanda. I must say I am so not appreciating the royal treatment that Maryam gets because she is going to become a doctor. The parents time & again put the rest of their daughters down because for them Farkhanda is just a ‘mamooli school teacher’ & the youngest daughter is too young to be paid attention to. All the things that Razia discussed in order to justify how those ladies got interested in Maryam were sickening, because in stead of encouraging Farkhanda & telling her that she wasn’t a lesser human being, she went on explaining how Maryam was oh-so better than her. I understand that the writer has showed them as very typical people belonging to middle class spectrum of the society with very conservative mind sets but this doesn’t mean that middle class people do not support or encourage their daughters, unless they’re becoming doctors, hello, anyone remembers Kashaf’s mother? Sorry but it is actually quite amusing how Aleem & Razia endorse this mentality jahan Maryam ko 7 khoon maaf hain just because she is becoming a doctor. At first, I liked the fact that they were so appreciative of their daughter Maryam but now their fixation with her is cringe-worthy.

Oh well, in the very first episode, I thought Taimur’s parents must be different but in a drama where everything is so typical, how could they be any different? They are thrilled about the fact that Taimur’s rich spoiled brat of a cousin Mishail is ready to get married to Taimur & they most certainly don’t give Taimur a right to choose his life partner because he is iklota. Well, I must say the dialogues of this drama are not that impressive but there were a few which left me scratching my head for example Mishail’s complain about families with kids travelling to Pakistan & Taimur implying that if she had traveled from any other airline apart from PIA, she must’ve had a smooth journey? What logic? Can I ask Taimur what makes him believe that Pakistani families only use PIA to travel to Pakistan & not any other airlines? Please don’t tell me that the intelligent Doc-to-be Taimur thinks those couples who have kids aren’t allowed to travel in any other airline except PIA!?!?! Another gem that this episode had was where Nargis swore by the fact that Mishail would never waste her time like ‘Pakistanis’ because she was from America & according to her, Americans are very active & don’t sleep all day like Pakistanis. Mind you, this was being said about the country which has a rate of 68.8% in obesity, but again, logic!

I must say, I haven’t had the time to connect to the feelings that Taimur & Maryam have for each other & now we have both of them facing family pressures because of each other? Like their journey hasn’t even started yet & the director has started showing us their bumpy ride, as if we’d be bawling our eyes out for them just because they won’t be able to be together easily? I can’t connect to Maryam’s flip switch approach where in the first episode, she wasn’t even interested in looking at Taimur, but by the second episode, she took a ring from him & then she said marriage wasn’t on the cards for next 5 years & then, in the third episode, she was convincing Taimur to get married to her? Like does she have a stand or what? I thought we have a newer version of Kashaf by looking at the way Maryam rebuked her friend when she tried to play the cupid & by talking repetitively about all the responsibilities she has on her shoulders, but I guess it takes a lot of backbone to be like Kashaf & not everyone can be like her! I actually lol’ed at the scene where after finding out that Maryam was ready to get married, Taimur kept playing the guitar while blankly looking at her…who would take a guy like him seriously?

Is it just me or the entire concert scenario was such a reminder of the concert Zaroon had in his university days? Well, how new right! This episode was quite slow & didn’t offer much. All of a sudden a guy who wasn’t even sure of Maryam’s feelings for him is now tearing his room apart because his parent’s weren’t thrilled with the idea of him dating a medical student who belonged to a middle class family. Also, I know Maryam’s parents have a lot of expectations attached to her but I didn’t really understand the shock & terror that struck them every time the subject of Maryam’s marriage came through? I don’t want to question or doubt their intentions but they gave me such a vibe as if they were not in a mood to get Maryam married at all because they were depending a lot on her to become a doctor so that she could shape her parent’s future? Uncle Aunty jee, beti ki shadi to honi hi hai na to har baar shadi ki baat sun ke paralysis ke attack wale expressions kyun? Anyways, not impressed & most certainly not even looking forward to what is yet to come because the plot is way too simple & even the characters are not that exciting. I find Taimur/Farhan Saeed & Maryam/Annie Jaffrey boring to say the least & there is absolutely no chemistry between the supposed love birds! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Silah & oh I guess, since everyone is so fixated with Maryam & the fact that she is becoming the first Doctor of Pakistan, this drama should’ve been named after her – Dr. Maryam, why Silah? Not sure!

Silah Episode 02 Review – A Bit Too Simple!

Ohkay so, this episode of Silah took things forward but not in a very convincing way. I say this because the situations & the scenarios are so typical & have been seen so many times in the past that you actually don’t feel like giving your utmost attention to this drama at this stage. I still am hopeful that things will change & will get interesting in the future episodes but the note at which the drama has begun isn’t interesting enough!

I was kind of taken aback that Maryam just needed a guy to get punched for her to completely forget her agenda of not getting committed for next 5 years. If they had developed this entire scenario slowly, it would’ve looked convincing but literally in just 2 episodes seeing Maryam go from I-can-not-get-committed to YASSS-I-am-ready didn’t actually make much sense. Taimoor has been after Maryam from quite some while now but Maryam didn’t lose focus because she was a bit too concerned & rightly so about all her responsibilities, so to see her getting convinced over a tiff Taimoor had for her with some guys in the college was quite unlike her. I think in this regard, Maryam turned out to be different from Kashaf because it took years & years for Kashaf to actually give a chance to Zaroon but Maryam ended up filling the empty space in a jiffy. If I say it in my style, I found it a bit funny that Taimoor’s love was just a mukkay ki maar for Maryam to get completely convinced that yes, she has a space in her life for a clingy guy like him.

I do understand that Taimoor is a very decent guy, comes from a very decent family, has a sound background, in other words, he is an eligible bachelor but I wish there was more to him or to his personality because till date, we only know that he is becoming a doctor by fluke, is a true musician at heart & he loves Maryam awain hi & that’s about it. I will say that I was surprised at how in such an initial stage of the drama their conversations sounded repetitive with ‘mujhe tumhara jawab chahiye’ being Taimoor’s pet phrase. I wish the writer had added some depth & personality in Taimoor’s character because in his comparison, Maryam’s character does seem to have been written with some detailing at least.

So, it took a punch, a car ride & 2 face to face conversations for Maryam to open a window for Taimoor in her life & Taimoor is obviously so clingy that he just doesn’t listen to what his lady love has to say. Taimoor might be a simple guy with no complications in his life, but it would have been good if the writer had shown him to be considerate of Maryam’s background & her dreams too. Right now it seems that Taimoor is infatuated with Maryam, but he doesn’t love her enough to actually understand her struggles & be supportive of what she wants to achieve in her life, especially for her family because the way he imposes his decisions on her goes to show that he will have a hard time relating to Maryam’s problems & understanding her situation!

I know the writer has tried to keep things quite simple but they were a little too simple to an extent that not only things were typical & predictable, but seemed to lack detailing as well, which is actually needed in stories like these which start off at such a note. Well, surprise surprise, Taimoor’s mother Nargis wants her only son to get engaged to her niece, that is why she speaks to her husband Ehsan. Ehsan ends up approving it because everything else is secondary for him & the only thing he is concerned about is Taimoor’s MBBS & then specialization which he will go to USA for. That was the beginning of objection that Taimoor will have to face from his parents & once again, there wasn’t anything new about it.

Aleem & his wife Razia tell Maryam to not show up in front of the guests who’d be visiting their house for Farkhanda’s proposal but it was obvious that they weren’t too impressed by Farkhanda’s personality. Maryam puts that time to good use & decides to say yes to Taimoor & that way, they officially become a couple. Maryam returns home just when the guests are still seated & the episode ends dramatically, as if we’d be eager to know about the unexpected & never-seen-before twist that the next episode will offer!

I will say that the 2nd episode wasn’t too impressive actually. I think the character of Taimoor needed a little more development & I think it would’ve been better if Farhaan Saeed had actually paid attention to look a little like a medical student. I know there’s no need to fit the stereotypes but at least a little effort which had made him look more like a medical student & less like a full-time musician. In this case Ainny Jaffrey definitely scores some points because her minimalistic & simple clothing choices do highlight the fact that she belongs to a middle class family & has a humble background. Also the way she carries her shawl sheds a light on that fact too, which again makes me feel that Ainny Jaffrey definitely put in some more effort in comparison to Farhaan Saeed because I guess he was too busy buying the hair gels that he didn’t pay much attention to anything else. The preview of the next episode suggested that things are still not going to change & will stay typical, but let’s see. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Silah.

Silah Episode 01 Review – A Decent Beginning!

Ohkay so, the writing of Sadia Akhtar, the direction of Syed Aabis Raza & the production of Momina Duraid Productions; Silah commenced tonight on HUM TV Network. The first episode of the drama seemed a little too straight forward & they didn’t establish much, except the backgrounds of the main characters & the one sided love that is lingering between the couple-to-be. I actually expected a little more from the first episode but I am hoping that the next episode will impress me a bit more.

We got to meet Aleem (Shakil), whose family consists of his wife Razia (Ismat Zaidi) & 3 daughters; Farkhanda, Maryam (Ainy Jaffrey) & Sana. Aleem family has a middle class background, but Aleem makes enough to feed his family & give them a decent life style. Farkhanda being the eldest daughter works & is unmarried. Maryam is doing MBBS on scholarship & Sana has just completed her college. Farkhanda & Maryam are both quite responsible as they understand the responsibilities their father has on his shoulders by being a father of three daughters. Maryam is a bright student & she is focused on shaping up her future as she knows that her family, especially her parents depend a lot on her & for herself & also for her parents, she has to become a doctor. Maryam also gives tuition in the evening to earn some money to support herself & her parents a little as well. Sana, being the youngest hasn’t garnered the sense of responsibility yet, that is why she gets lectured from both of her sisters when she demands a new suit for her farewell.

Then we were introduced to the family of Dr. Ehsan (Javed Sheikh), who’s a heart surgeon & his family includes his wife (Farah Shah) & their only son Taimoor (Farhan Saeed). Taimoor is also doing an MBBS only to fulfill his father’s dream as he does realize that being an only child, his parents have a lot of expectations attached to him. Taimoor is also into music & treats it as a hobby, which his father thinks is only costing him his precious time. However, we get to see that Taimoor’s mother is quite supportive of her son as she knows that he is responsible therefore, he deserves a chance to explore & enjoy something that he loves as he is already fulfilling his father’s wish by becoming a doctor too.

collage-1

We are then taken to the Medical College, where Taimoor, Maryam & a couple of their friends are shown. It has been made clear that the entire college knows that Taimoor likes Maryam, that is why their mutual friend Mehwish keeps on telling Maryam about Taimoor’s feelings for her. Mehwish assures Maryam time & again that Taimoor is not a flirt, he is not looking for a short-term relationship with her & he intends to marry her but Maryam always cuts short the entire conversation because she knows that her friend will never be able to understand the pressures & burdens Maryam has in her life. Even though Maryam spends her time with Mehwish, but she is well aware of the class difference between them, due to which she also knows that her friend Mehwish won’t understand the fact that Maryam can’t afford to get involved in such activities. Mehwish & her friend label Maryam’s indifference to Taimoor as a tantrum & rudeness without even realizing that there must be a reason behind Maryam’s focus on her studies only. Even though Mehwish feels for Taimoor as she understands his feelings, but her persistence & pressures on Maryam seemed a little off-putting.

We then get to see that Maryam ends up misunderstanding Taimoor’s intention of helping & protecting her because she eavesdrops on her class fellows who assume that Taimoor must have paid some guys to bother Maryam, so that he could swoop in like a hero & score some brownie points in front of her. Based on a misunderstanding & an assumption, Maryam gives Taimoor a piece of her mind & that entire situation goes out of hand when Taimoor confronts those guys!

Overall, the first episode was decent but I definitely expected more from it. I liked Taimoor’s character for the fact that even though he is shown as an only child with a financially sound background, he is not a spoiled brat & in stead, he seems quite responsible & mature for his age. Maryam’s character is nice too but doesn’t seem new. Honestly speaking, Maryam seemed like a mini version of Kashaf from Zindagi Gulzar Hai, minus the negativity & bitterness that Kashaf had in her before she became something. The direction of the first episode was good & the acting of all the actors was effortless too, however, in a few scenes, I did feel that Annie Jaffrey was struggling to the point that she looked expressionless & her acting seemed flat. I hope she gives me a chance to warm up to her character in the future episodes too. Also, I must say by the end of the episode, I completely turned the volume down because the background music was just so unnecessarily loud. I hope they cut down on the background music because no one watches a drama to get noise polluted. I will however say that going by the couple of promos that I have watched, the story of this drama does seem interesting, so I am definitely going to keep an eye on how things will unfold in this drama. Anyhow, please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Silah.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Signature Makeup Looks of Top 5 Pakistani Actresses

0

Makeup is an essential part of an actor’s job and career. It takes them years of experience, trials and errors to get to the point where they truly understand what looks good on them and what sort of makeup they can and should carry on-screen. Over the years, Pakistani actresses have started relying on very little makeup and they usually go for natural looking makeup, it not only accentuates their natural beauty, but makes their characters look real and relatable.

In the past, actors used to rely on very heavy makeup, which often served as a major distraction for the viewers because they failed to relate to such a made-up character. Then came a time when the actors started understanding the true nature of their job, especially while playing the characters which portrayed the real-life struggles of people. This allowed the actors a shift in their approach towards their characters. In real lives too, celebrities have started wearing very natural looking makeup because it is not only easy to achieve but it is very much in trend to avoid caked up overly glamorous faces in day to day life. This is how they get to look super glamorous during the award functions because the heavy and glamorous looks are saved for the special occasions.

Let’s take a look at the signature makeup looks of top 5 Pakistani actresses:

Ayeza Khan

Ayeza Khan has experimented a lot over the years and has now realized what looks good on her. One of the most important aspects in Ayeza Khan’s signature makeup look is her bronzing and contouring steps. Whenever people hear the word contouring, they are usually reminded of the harsh lines however Ayeza Khan’s makeup is a perfect example of how contouring and bronzing can also look absolutely natural. Ayeza Khan has a structural face, this is why she accentuates it even more using warm shades to bring dimension to her face.

Ayeza Khan usually wears a thin layer of foundation but then the products on top of that very fine layer help her in achieving her signature makeup look. Ayeza Khan also does not skip doing her eyebrows. Her eyebrows are filled lightly using feather stroke technique but they are very much defined and frame her face perfectly. Ayeza does wear blush but goes light handed on it, however one makeup product that she does not hold back on is the highlighter. Ayeza Khan’s entire face makeup is very much based on contouring and highlighting technique, which accentuates the high points of her face and give her a structured look. She usually prefers wearing icicle almost frosty white cool toned highlighters.

She is very much into wearing natural shades of lipsticks on a daily basis but there are some rare occasions when she wears brighter and bolder lipsticks colors like plums, berry pinks and reds and carries them nicely too. Ayeza Khan’s eye makeup is very simple which is usually achieved using cool toned brown eyeshadows that are properly blended – enough to give her eyes some crease and definition. She drags the eyeshades under her eyes, which make her eyes appear bigger. She wears a single coat of mascara and does not make her eyelashes too prominent. Ayeza Khan prefers minimal attention on her eyes, this is why she usually keeps the eye makeup very simple and light. She does not wear a defined eyeliner and usually prefers a blended and diffused liner look which is achieved using pencil liners.

Alizeh Shah

Alizeh Shah was known for wearing a lot of makeup in her dramas but over the time, she has understood what looks better on camera and how much makeup is suitable for the characters that she is playing. Alizeh Shah’s signature makeup is all about the sun-kissed look. She does wear a proper layer of foundation which gives her enough coverage. She then goes heavy handed on bronzer and highlighter, which perfectly bring dimension to her face as well as uplift the high points of her face. Alizeh Shah likes wearing a lot of highlighter and she carries it perfectly as well.

Alizeh naturally has a perfect eyebrow shape, therefore she fills it using brown shades, which give her a defined eyebrows without making them look too harsh. Alizeh always matches the eyebrows with the current hair color of hers, which is the right way to make it work. Alizeh also wears a lot of blush, usually pinkier and peachy toned which gives her a lot more youthful and fresh look. Alizeh defines her eyes using warm eye shadows and usually goes for a more cat eye effect with her crease properly defined and extended. At times she prefers wearing eyeliner but that is a rarity because she wears mascara which gives her eyes enough definition. Alizeh wears a variety of lipstick shades and at times only wears lip tints which give her lips a hint of color.

She usually also does not wear a lot of makeup in the dramas and her signature makeup look is all about enhancing her beautiful features with the help of minimal makeup products. Her signature makeup look can be defined as a natural daytime makeup look.

Sajal wears a decent layer of foundation which gives her face enough coverage and gets the canvas ready for the rest of the makeup products to glide on. Sajal Aly loves a thin eyeliner which defines her eyes. In almost all of her dramas, she always wears a thin eyeliner with a small wing to accentuate the beautiful shape of her eyes. Sajal’s main focus is always on the eyes, this is why brow definition is also a major part of her signature makeup look. Sajal Aly is very much into pinkier cheeks and lips. She is always seen wearing tints which give her cheeks a hint of color and a similar shade is seen on her lips. Sajal carries pinks really well, this is why most of her lipsticks are pink as well.

Iqra Aziz

Iqra Aziz is very comfortable in her skin, this is why her social media feed is filled with pictures of her wearing absolutely no makeup. As wearing makeup is a part of Iqra Aziz’s job and career, she has come up with a certain look which she carries beautifully and is enough to accentuate her beauty in a number of steps.

On a daily basis, Iqra wears little foundation, she naturally has a clear skin, this is why her face does not require a lot of coverage. She is very particular about the perfectly shaped eyebrows, this is why she makes sure that her eyebrows are properly defined and filled in. Iqra also uses concealer to clean up the edges which add more sharpness to her eyebrows. She keeps on changing the eyebrow shape because she naturally has thin eyebrows so she gets the margin to come up with the desired shape. Iqra loves highlighters, this is why she goes heavy handed on highlighters to get the glowy look that she likes.

Iqra Aziz’s signature makeup look includes properly lined eyes. She defines her eye shape using eyeliners and prefers wearing it in different thicknesses because either way, she carries it really well. She defines her crease with warm brown eyeshadows and does not forget to add different shimmery or matte shades on her eyelids. Another makeup product that is a must in her makeup routine is the cheek and lip tint. She is always seen wearing it in her dramas or in her regular pictures on Instagram, it is enough to give her face a hint of color and adds freshness to her makeup look. Bolder brows, properly layered foundation and rosy lips and cheeks is what Iqra’s signature makeup look is all about.

Sana Javed

Sana Javed has also changed her preferences and now goes for a very minimal makeup look, which is all about the fresh and glowy skin. Sana Javed wears a thin layer of foundation and then adds a lot of highlighter which gives her the glow-from-within look. Her signature makeup is all about glowy and glass-like skin. She does not really wear a lot of bronzer but only brings in dimension to her face with the help of blush which is enough for her. Sana has the kind of complexion where a little makeup can look a lot more, this is why she does not go heavy handed on the makeup.

Defined eyebrows and a touch of color on the eyes is how Sana likes her eye makeup to be. She wears different shimmery and even matte shades on her eyelids and defines her crease using browns. She also wears natural and nude shades of lipsticks, which often match the shades of her blush on. It is a rarity that Sana wears eyeliner and when she does, she makes sure it is a very thin line which does not overpower the rest of her eye makeup look. Sana Javed’s signature makeup look can be defined as a day-time fresh looking glam.
