Ishqiya Episode 8 Story Review – More of the Same

The latest episode of Ishqiya laid the foundations for what is coming ahead. The story is moving forward gradually and it continues to be predictable. Hamnah and Romaissa both will be getting married in the next episode, hopefully. That is when the viewers will actually find out what Hamza’s grand plan is.

The Strange Love Triangle

Hamza’s interaction with Azeem tonight indicated that he wants to make Hamna uncomfortable and under constant stress by making sure he is a constant ‘threat’. Hamna continues to be confusing, the best thing about tonight’s episode was Azeem’s comment about her expressions, totally agree with him! This comment also indicated that the writer wanted Hamna to have these similar expressions throughout therefore Ramsha Khan is not to be blamed for the monotonous performance. Hamna’s half-hearted attempts to stop this marriage from taking place actually made sense since Hamza’s threat did not leave her with much of a choice. I couldn’t help noticing that Hamna is more worried about herself than about her sister. Even though she asked Hamza to keep Romaissa out of all this but the only reason she is quiet is that she does not want to get into trouble. Also, while talking to her friend she clearly stated that it was a no-win situation for her. She said that even if Romaissa gets married to Hamza, she will be the one suffering. That came as a surprise since it clearly suggested that she was not really looking out for her sister but was only dreading how this marriage would affect her. Hamna is also, still daydreaming about Hamza and has not moved on.Ishqiya Episode 8 Story Review - More of the Same

Hamza wanting to be best friends with Azeem showed how he wanted to make Hamna miserable by being close to her husband. At Hamza’s house, everyone thinks that Romaissa is the girl he was friends with all this time. Once Romaissa gets married, she will get one shock after the other, I can see that happening already. She has no idea what she is getting herself into. Romaissa likes Hamza and is excited about her marriage. The conversation she had with her father will also haunt her in the days to come because she will have to sacrifice much more than what she is expecting in order to keep her ‘promises’!

It is quite clear now that Hamna is really weak so much so that most often her reactions are subdued. This part of her personality makes her character just plain boring and somewhat annoying. She has not contributed actively to any of the developments. Although Romaissa is blunt and confident but she strictly believes that a girl’s parents decide who she is going to marry. Romaissa and her father’s relationship is sweet which makes the fact that she wants to do whatever she can to please her father, logical. Although her dialogues can sometimes be a bit forced but Hania Aamir’s performance is always on point. Azeem keeps you confused, it seems highly likely that very soon he will be sharing his troubles with his ‘friend’ Hamza.

Just like expected, Alishba was more than willing to force her way into Hamza’s life but gladly her father did not oblige. I am certain we will be seeing more of this desperation in the future too. The relationship all these leading characters have with their families continues to be the best part of the play. I am waiting to see if the girls’ family will be just as actively involved in the future too because very often we see that our leading ladies lose connection with their parents once they get married!

Ishqiya Episode 8 Story Review - More of the Same

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Ishqiya was a lot like the previous few episodes; slight progress in the story and so many scenes which didn’t have anything new to offer. This is going to be my last review of Ishqiya. I am going to review Pyar Ke Sadqay instead of this drama. The reason for this is that Ishqiya is predictable and it doesn’t give me a lot to discuss. The story isn’t new and the drama so far is slow-paced. All the actors have been performing well and I am still curious to find out how Romaissa’s track, in particular, is taken forward but I don’t really look forward to reviewing this play. Pyar Ke Sadqay, on the other hand, has a lot going for it. So, while I will be watching Ishqiya, I will not be reviewing it anymore.

Ishqiya Episode 7 Story Review – The Trap

Tonight’s episode of Ishqiya was entertaining but it also indicated that the story might turn more dark as the story progresses. Hamza’s character was always assertive but in this episode his darker side was more prominent than ever before. The ever-present background score whenever Hamza appeared also suggested that he was going to be another one of those villainous hero characters we have been watching on our screens a little too often. The leading man who runs the show but he is too controlling, selfish and negative to be likable and in the end, he somehow redeems himself. This, unfortunately, seems to be the latest trend in our dramas nowadays. Feroze Khan it seems is going to play Mir Hadi yet again although this time around he won’t be killing anyone! Hamza has turned into a stubborn and revengeful character. I couldn’t help but wonder how wonderful this drama could have been if these men were not so confusing and negative. There is nothing appealing about watching men undermine women but I am waiting to see how the story unfolds in the upcoming episodes. Although, Hamza’s anger is justified but his revenge plan has turned him into a negative character.

The Families

Both the families in Ishqiya have a good relationship yet there is so much lack of communication on one side and bitterness on the other. Hamna’s khamoshi is awfully annoying. She could have tried to convince her sister to reject this proposal yet she lied there listening to Romaissa say all those nice things about Hamza. Hamna decided to talk to her parents but they did not listen to her. Azeem completely ignored Hamna’s point of view and gave his own ‘verdict’. Azeem does not come across as a nice person, he is yet another controlling man in this drama. It was good to see Hamna reaching out to Hamza and his friend to convince Hamza to change his mind. Hamna never had much of a say in her house therefore it did not come as a surprise that no one listened to her. Also, Hamza made sure he left a lasting impression on this family.Ishqiya Episode 7 Story Review - The Trap

The way Hamza completely took over when Romaissa’s family came was rather awkward but he was clearly well prepared for this meeting. As the parents sat there as spectators, Hamza convinced Romaissa’s family that he was the perfect man for their daughter. Feroze Khan translated Hamza’s confidence perfectly well on screen. He also looked like someone who knew exactly what he wanted throughout. Hamza told his mother off when she tried to question him and he had a valid answer when his father asked him why he had lied about his college. Hamza’s father has always been really ‘cool’ therefore watching him play along was completely in line with his character. His mother too seemed convinced later on, perhaps because she knows that she has no choice.

Romaissa Likes Hamza

It was good to see Romaissa actually sharing her excitement with her sister and brother-in-law. While she really likes Hamza, she was also shown wondering if he was a nice man or not. Such rational expectations coupled with a lot of excitement made these scenes realistic. Hania Aamir is well-suited for the role. For a change, the mother too voiced her observations when she told Romaissa that she knew how happy she was. It would have been nice if she shared her reservations about Hamna’s attitude in the same manner too early on. Romaissa’s scenes and dialogues tonight were realistic and entertaining. I especially liked it when she shared her opinion about Hamza’s family coming over to their place with the proposal without informing since that really was awkward.Ishqiya Episode 7 Story Review - The Trap

Alishba bechari has been taken out of the scenario like doodh se makhi! I am sure she will make a comeback and continue fighting for Hamza even after he gets married!

Final Remarks

The story moved forward with this episode and gradually we are finding out more about the characters. Some of the scenarios don’t make sense but I am definitely more interested than ever to watch how life would be like for these sisters once they get married. I honestly feel for Ramsha Khan since she has to constantly look sad or scared! I loved Hania Aamir’s expressions and performance in tonight’s episode.

Ishqiya Episode 6 Story Review – The Proposal

The story moved forward with this episode of Ishqiya. Unlike the previous few episodes, tonight’s episode had a few developments which were long overdue! The writer intelligently used Hamza’s accident and his silence to change his mother’s thinking in particular. Now, we can finally move on to the next phase of the story. This drama would have been far more entertaining if it was fast-paced. The excessive use of background score doesn’t help either! Tonight’s episode overall was engaging and logical. The superb performances by all the actors involved have been the most appealing aspect of this drama so far. The story so far is quite predictable but I am hoping that it won’t get as dull as it seems like it is going to be. Hamza’s father will definitely prove to be an even more refreshing addition to the show once Romaissa gets married to Hamza.

Progress In The Story

Hamna and Azeem finally were shown talking to each other like a husband and wife should! Hamna also seemed to be more comfortable around Azeem. At the same time, she kept on praying for Hamza and also made sure she visited the hospital. Hamna is perpetually confused and just when she finally decided to move on, Hamza came to her house with the proposal. So, Hamna now is back to being the zinda lash she was before. Finally, someone in the house questioned her about what was going on in her mind.

Hamna’s mother was always shown noticing her whenever she looked unhappy and tonight finally she asked her why she was being like that. Hamna evaded the question but clearly her mother realizes that something is wrong. Hamna’s mother’s dialogues about the respect and love she will get from them even after she gets married were good but these parents too are just as confusing as the daughters! I find it really difficult to relate to the fact that such parents won’t allow their daughters to choose their spouse – which doesn’t essentially mean having an affair!

Ishqiya Episode 6 Story Review - The Proposal

Romaissa continued to live in her own world. Later on, when Hamna was talking on the phone with Azeem, Romaissa’s antics made sense but when Hamna came to call her she looked like she had seen a ghost yet no one really noticed her expressions! Even after her mother told her to come to the kitchen, she sat there frozen!

The Proposal

After staying silent for so long and probably after a lot of contemplation, Hamza decided to take revenge from Hamna. The second he came up with the plan, he had an evil smile on his face. The way Hamza’s family went to Hamna’s house with the proposal also showed how easy it would have been for Hamza to marry Hamna if he had the time. He is clearly someone who knows how to have his way. He is sure that Hamna betrayed him and deserves to be punished. This would mean that he has a negative streak because otherwise, he wouldn’t be so happy executing his plan.

If Hamza had asked his mother to go with him to someone’s house with a proposal before the accident, she most certainly wouldn’t have obliged. Although, the accident played an important role in changing her mindset but even then Hamza’s recovery was given more screen time than necessary. Hamza’s scenes with his family in this episode were heart-warming. The actress playing Hamza’s sister’s role is also playing her part well.

Ishqiya Episode 6 Story Review - The Proposal

Final Remarks

This was another episode of Ishqiya with some really good performances even though some of the actors didn’t have a lot of dialogues. The characters annoy you at times but the performances never fail to impress. So far, the actress playing Alishba’s role is the weakest link in the play. The preview of the next episode suggested that these marriages will not be taking place anytime soon. Hamna vows to do whatever it would take to make sure that Romaissa does not get married to Hamza. She will obviously succeed and Hamna will have another reason to feel guilty! Waiting to see how Alishba will react to this latest development ;)

Ishqiya Episode 5 Story Review – Highs and Lows

The story finally moved forward with this episode and just like every other episode of Ishqiya , this one too had quite a few eye-rolling scenarios. There were also some developments which were likable. Roomi’s strong personality is definitely one of the most likable aspects of this drama but unfortunately she will be married to Hamza and that is when things will start going downhill. The writer has continuously used Siddiqui sahab’s medical condition as a majboori yet the viewers don’t know even now what is wrong with him. The introduction to the characters was given a little too quickly which is why some of these characters keep you guessing. The excessive use of background score and not enough situations to establish the relationship between some of the characters has been another negative aspect of the play so far. The viewers do not really know Hamna that well therefore it is difficult to relate to her family being ‘cool’ with her being a zinda lash!

Latest Developments

Tonight’s episode of Ishqiya opened with Hamza’s friend telling Hamna that she was responsible for the condition he was in. The first few scenes covered how desperately Hamza’s parents wanted him to be well. By showing all these scenes and this particular situation, the writer is building the foundation for the upcoming events. Few days back, Hamza’s mother was bent on marrying him off to Alishba but now she will be more flexible. Her dialogues suggested that she regretted her decision and will now do whatever it takes to please her son. That would make it easy for Hamza to convince his mother to accept Roomi as her daughter in law. Although, Roomi is supposed to be madly in love with Hamza but it is extremely difficult to relate to this ‘ishq’. Although her majbooris made sense but even then this track has not been handled properly. Hamza and Hamnah should have been given more screen time. The only aspect of their relationship which has been given a lot of screen time is Hamza’s madness. The way Hamna made her way to Hamza’s room in the hospital was definitely not relatable or realistic. Someone in a critical condition like that of Hamza is never left alone, unsupervised!

Ishqiya Episode 5 Story Review - Highs and Lows

Azeem finally was shown wondering whether Hamna was interested in him or not – better late than never! The conversation he had with his mother also revealed a little bit more about his character. His dialogues suggested that he was not a flexible person and he expected a lot from his wife. Since Hamna is used to ‘pleasing’ her father, pleasing the husband should come naturally to her! Azeem’s dialogues in the hospital when he was trying to console Hamna were also disturbing. So far, Hamna is just lost and is least bothered about her relationship with Azeem. Roomi definitely is the sensible one not only because her situation is different from Hamna’s but also because so far she is not a bechari in any way. Had Roomi been in a similar situation, she would have taken wiser decisions.

The men in this play are turning out to be a big disappointment. Azeem clearly is another one of those men who expect the woman to compromise. Even though Hamna and Roomi’s father overall is a sweet and gentle person but some of the expectations he has from his daughters make him a really typical character. This was a good opportunity for the writer to highlight the importance of a girl’s consent in marriage but the story seems to be going in a different direction. Hopefully, the wiser viewers can see just how unfair Siddiqui sahab has been to his daughter.

Ishqiya Episode 5 Story Review - Highs and Lows

Final Remarks

So far, the best thing about Ishqiya are the performances. Even though Hamna’s character is quite annoying and Hamza’s character doesn’t have anything new to offer but both the actors have been performing well. Hania Aamir is convincing as the confident and bubbly Roomi. Even though Roomi’s complete disregard of her sister’s ‘condition’ makes absolutely no sense. Similarly, Siddiqui sahab’s character is rather confusing but Shabbir Jan makes it worthwhile. The preview of the next episode showed Hamza recovering and executing his revenge plan! Not exactly looking forward to what is coming ahead but curious to see how Roomi deals with the entire situation. I can already see Hamza’s mother as the typical saas and Alishba as the woman trying endlessly to create even more misunderstandings!

Ishqiya Episode 4 Story Review – The Confrontation

Even though I did not have any expectations from this play but after watching the first episode, I was expecting it to be fast paced. Unfortunately, the story is moving forward slowly and some of the minor details leave me baffled every single time. Apart from that, there are some glaring flaws in the screenplay as well. The way Hamza and his friends ‘manhandle’ the ladies is not okay or cool!! Although the overall feel and theme of the play is filmy but showing these boys grab the girls and drag them wherever they want is completely uncalled for. Apart from this, Roomi’s complete aloofness when it comes to her sister’s frame of mind makes her come across as insensitive and dumb – which she is definitely not! Whatever happened to Siddiqui sahab’s illness? His illness has been used as an excuse, a majboori because of which Hamnah went ahead with the nikkah but after that no one even talked about his medical condition. Azeem’s character is still a mystery and at this point, I am feeling for him more than anyone else.

Hamza and Hamnah

Hamza and Hamnah’s sweet romance and love has not been given enough screen time. There are times when you feel that Hamnah is more scared of Hamza than she is in love with him. This mad love and ishq could have been translated on screen in a less aggressive manner. The way Hamza confronts or even interacts with Hamnah at the university campus is simply unrealistic. Hamza comes from an affluent family therefore this must be a well-reputed university with proper rules in place, watching Hamza getting away with bullying everyone and not being held accountable for it, makes no sense! The way he tore that page out of the register was simply unacceptable and watching him walk out and creating a scene after that was just plain ridiculous. Hamnah has wronged Hamza but there are times when you understand why Hamnah is scared of him and did not have the courage to share what was going on in her life.

Ishqiya Episode 4 Story Review - The Confrontation

In the beginning Hamza came across as the cool kid who took his love for Hamnah really seriously but after watching this episode it seems like he is just plain mad! Feroze Khan is definitely being typecast – Gul-e-Rana, Khaani and now this drama – all the characters he played were more or less the same. I would love to see him in a role which is more balanced. In Dil Kya Kare, he was another extreme. Hamnah has hardly any dialogues and her expressions remain the same in every situation since she is going through hell and that’s it! Ramsha Khan is a solid performer but so far the character she is playing hasn’t given her the opportunity to showcase her acting skills.

Roomi and Rest of The Characters

Roomi’s character is fun and cool but when she simply fails to acknowledge her sister’s feelings, she comes across as insensitive. Not once have we seen Roomi trying to figure out exactly what is wrong with Hamnah. Although she is a happy-go-lucky person who does not believe in falling in love but there is definitely a caring side to her personality as well. These sisters are close to one another, they share a room and they did share some jokes and emotional moments as well. The way these characters were introduced suggested that this was a close-knit family but apart from Hamnah’s mother, no one is bothered about Hamnah’s sudden silence and her passive mood. Azeem is another extreme who I hope would start noticing that his wife is not happy with the marriage! The scene covering Azeem’s meeting with Hamnah in the university was strange! Last time I checked, there was no such waiting area or ‘visiting facilities’ for students who were not living in the hostel. This scene did not work for me at all.

Ishqiya Episode 4 Story Review - The Confrontation

Alishba’s character and this track has done-to-death written all over it. In every other drama we have a good looking, educated girl from an affluent background who is so desperate to marry the hero that even after he gets married, she would gladly wait for the divorce so that they can finally be together!

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode had some really important developments to its credit but they were not handled well at all. The characters have not been fleshed out properly. The background score at times can be excessive but there were some scenes tonight when the background score helped me understand what Hamnah was going through. The flashback scenes are not enough to make the viewers understand what Hamnah is thinking. It seems like Hamza will turn in to Mir Hadi after all! I am waiting to find out more about Azeem since so far he has been quite ‘patient’!

Ishqiya Episode 3 Story Review – The Nikkah

Tonight’s episode of Ishqiya was slightly more entertaining than the last one. This episode had some important developments to its credit and it was yet again frustrating watching Hamna contemplate whether she should tell Hamza what was actually going on or not. She went ahead with the nikkah without informing Hamza. Although her confusion and fear both were translated convincingly on screen but even then her approach has been immature. I must say that Hania Aamir’s character and her performance is the main attraction of this drama right now. Hania Aamir is one of my favorite actresses who always brings out the best in every character she plays. Having said that, I really wish that she gets a better stylist and that the producers let the actresses with short hair flaunt their natural hair as opposed to forcing them to wear hair pieces. In every other drama the actresses are forced to wear either extensions or hair pieces because somehow it isn’t okay for the leading ladies to have short hair!

Ishqiya Episode 3 Story Review - The Nikkah

Even though some of the scenarios in this drama have done-to-death written all over them but there were also those elements of Hamna and Romaissa’s track which were quite likable. There were times when I wondered what would have happened had Hamna taken her sister or mother in to confidence. The writer has shown how a loving and caring father completely failed to let his daughter make one of the most important decisions of her life.

Hamza and Hamna

Hamza’s commitment towards Hamna seems quite genuine, something more than just crazy love but if you compare him with Azeem, Azeem definitely appears to be a more mature character. Hamza’s conversation with his father in the previous episode suggested that Hamna had never made a commitment with him therefore their relationship status is confusing. Hamna has definitely made quite a few decisions in this one week which show that she is not as certain and confident as her sister is. Hamna was shown crying and ignoring Hamza and she simply brushed this entire affair under the carpet even after the nikkah happened. Some of the flashback scenes were completely unnecessary and it would have been better if instead of showing these scenes, the writer would have given the viewers a more clear insight into what Hamna was thinking. Although she wanted to get married to Hamza but we still don’t know whether she loves Hamza as much as he loves her. While it was relatively easier for Hamza to tell his parents off, Hamna’s situation has been completely different. Feroze Khan’s entire outlook doesn’t go well with his character since Hamza has a more responsible and serious side as well but he looks like the reckless cool dude.

There were quite a few scenes tonight which showed why Hamna decided to do exactly what she was told and why she might have to put up with even more in the future. Romaissa took the medical file from her father but we still don’t know what his medical condition is. Romaissa’s character is a breath of fresh air and definitely different from the one she played in Anaa. Romaissa looks out for her parents and her sole aim in life is to see her father happy. Her relationship with her father in particular is both cute and endearing at the same time. Hania Aamir’s performance has been effortless and on point. She does not overdo the bubbly side of Romaissa’s personality and has made sure that the viewers can see the sensitive and caring side of her character. Shabbir Jan too has translated his character gracefully on screen. Even though he has made some decisions which were too hasty and perhaps not fair but even then you understand where he was coming from.

Ishqiya Episode 3 Story Review - The Nikkah

Azeem and Hamna

Azeem was properly introduced to the viewers tonight. The introduction he gave made me wonder why he mentioned the past. Can he sense that Hamna is hiding something or is there something that he is hiding from her? Or was it just something he said to make Hamna feel comfortable? Waiting to find out! Azeem sounded like someone whose world would revolve around his wife once he got married therefore it would be interesting to watch how this relationship grows. Hamna just sat there, lifeless and sad while Azeem tried to have a conversation with her. He likes Hamna and is looking forward to starting a new life with her but Hamna clearly is not ready for this fresh start, it is more like an ordeal for her. The preview of the next episode suggested that Azeem might find out the truth in the upcoming episode – I really hope that does not happen. Hamna’s situation is actually painful to watch especially because she hardly had any interaction with her friend in this one week. Gohar Rasheed is a brilliant actor, I am waiting to see what his character has in store for us.

Final Remarks

Ishqiya so far is a decent watch, it isn’t remarkable and it is not entirely run-of-the-mill either. The performances and the direction has been on point and even though the story is familiar, the writer has managed to avoid certain clichés. The preview of the next episode showed that Hamza will find out the truth and he will once again show his anger in front of everyone. Will Azeem witness all this? The preview suggested that Hamza will feel betrayed and rightly so too! I guess we all know where the story will go from here but it will be interesting to watch how it is taken forward.

Ishqiya Episode 2 Story Review – Complications

I was expecting this second episode of Ishqiya to be fast paced but it focused entirely on Siddiqui sahab’s medical condition. Hania Aamir and Shabbir Jan’s performances stood out in this particular episode. Ramsha Khan’s character and performance reminds me of the role she played in Kesa Hei Naseeban. Feroze Khan too is giving Mir Haadi vibes, the shouting and the background is similar too. Having said that both these actors are doing justice to their respective characters. The excessive use of background score and the way some of the scenes were edited disrupted the flow of the story. The overall feel of this second episode was filmi, just like the first episode but tonight’s episode was slightly less engaging than the first one.

Latest Developments

Tonight’s episode of Ishqiya opened with Romi finding out that her father was fighting a disease which might be life threatening. This first scene pretty much laid down the foundations for what was coming ahead. Siddiqui sahab’s relationship with his daughters was well established in the first episode and in this episode the viewers got to see a little more of the kind of love they share. Siddiqui sahab is an over-protective yet caring father and even with all the love there is a communication gap between the daughters and their father. They go out for dinners, enjoy their time together, Siddiqui sahab even does not have a problem apologizing when he feels he has done something wrong but there are certain boundaries, some principles, which do not allow Hamna to tell her father that she is in love. This situation is different from the one we usually see in such scenarios but at the same time it is slightly frustrating to watch Hamna’s helplessness and unhappiness. Shabbir Jan has definitely done a great job bringing out the gentle and loving side of his character but you can’t help blaming him for not having enough faith in his daughters to choose their life partners. He is convinced that he can make the best decisions for them and he does not want to be told otherwise.

Ishqiya Episode 2 Story Review - Complications

I must say that I felt for Hamna because she has a man in her life who could have given her all the happiness and love in the world but she has to get married to someone she does not even know! Romi on the other hand has no love interest therefore her life is perfect. She does not have to face the situation her sister is facing but at the same time it is difficult to understand why she cannot tell that Hamna is not happy about this proposal. Everything happened too quickly and the proposal was finalized before Hamna could muster up the courage to talk to Hamza. Every time she thought about picking up the phone and calling him, she was reminded of his possessiveness and that is when she stopped herself from sharing the details with Hamza. Tonight’s episode covered almost two days and there were definitely some continuity issues as well. Siddiqui sahab’s clothes changed by the time he got back from the office.

Ishqiya Episode 2 Story Review - Complications

Hamza’s scenes yet again showed his mad love, his ishq for Hamna. His father’s scenes yet again revolved around his cool and calm nature. The father’s scenes could easily have been chopped down since the story could then have moved forward to bring Azeem in the picture. Hamza’s mother trying to marry him off to a girl he does not like has been-there-seen-that written all over it! Seemi Pasha has played so many such characters in the recent past. It is like watching her play the same character as the one she played in Mera Rab Waris all over again!

Final Remarks

After watching the first episode, I was hoping that the first few episodes would be fast paced but there was a lot of repetition in this episode. The story should have been taken forward with this second episode. The preview of the next episode showed Hamna and Azeem’s meeting – it should have been shown in this episode, in my opinion. Also, looks like Hamza will soon find out the truth. Honestly speaking after watching Hamza’s junooni ishq, I have a bad feeling that we might see Mir Hadi all over again, I really hope that I am wrong. Hoping to see situations which are not too extreme and definitely don’t want to see excessive rona dhona in the upcoming episodes.

Ishqiya Episode 1 Story Review – Mad Love & Limitations

Ishqiya’s first episode was pretty decent and even though it seems like the story doesn’t have anything new to offer but this was definitely the kind of episode which kept my interest alive. All the central characters were introduced with utmost clarity in this first episode – which was great especially considering the fact that I have watched enough dramas lately in which the families of the central characters are most often introduced later on. While Feroze Khan and Ramsha Khan are playing the kind of characters they have played in other dramas too before, Hania Aamir’s character it seems might be different from the one she played in Anaa and Titli. Also, I honestly feel that Hania Aamir is an amazing actress who brings out the nuances in her characters exceptionally well. All the actors involved performed well, the background music at times was annoying but overall this first episode was fast-paced and engaging.

The Title and First Impression

When I searched Ishqiya on Google to find out about the cast, that is when I realized that there was a Bollywood film with a similar title too. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not but it would be great if our producers can be a little more creative while finalizing the title for their dramas! After all there are so many different options! I am going to admit that I watched this first episode with the least bit of expectations especially after watching the highly disappointing and OTT first episode of Jhooti. The fact that I managed to sit through this episode without questioning the cast and the presentation in general was reason enough to take it up for reviewing until something better comes along.

Ishqiya Episode 1 Story Review - Mad Love & Limitations

The opening scene wasn’t impressive, my first thought was whether a university would allow their student to wear shorts on campus. Apart from that the background score made the whole scenario more filmi than fun. As the story progressed and the characters were introduced, there was more clarity and even though Ishqiya seems like another story which will revolve around relationships but this first episode was definitely more interesting than the opening episode of Jhooti which was all over the place. There are some clichéd but definite conflicts in the plot right from the beginning and if handled well it would be interesting to watch how all the characters handle these conflicting situations.

The Characters and The Story

Ishqiya’s story revolves around three different families and four main leads. Thankfully the conflict in this story isn’t one which involves class difference. Hamna (Ramsha Khan) and Hamza (Feroze Khan) are madly in love. Hamza is in a position to show this ‘madness’ since he has no problem with openly confessing his love for Hamna. While on the one side Hamza is shown as an angry young man with a romantic side, on the other hand he is introduced as a genius – someone who does wonders in his studies even though he does not fit into that studious student stereotype. Although that sum he solved on the board didn’t seem too difficult but it did imply that he was a good student. Hamza’s father (Khalid Anam) is really cool and the entire atmosphere in his house is completely different from that of Hamna’s. The contrast between the two households was quite apparent from all the scenes shown in this first episode.

Hamna has a sister Romaisa (Hania Aamir) who has a personality very different from that of Hamna’s. While Hamna is in love and afraid to disclose that secret even to her sister, Romaisa is more than happy living her life which is quite carefree to say the least. Romaisa is shown as a happy-go-lucky young girl who trusts her father completely with her future. Hamna on the other hand is set to be engaged to Azeem (Gohar Rasheed) by the end of this episode. Hamna and Romaisa’s father (Shabbir Jan) is strictly against love marriage therefore Hamna does not have the courage to tell him about Hamza. At the same time, she does not talk to Hamza about the proposal because she is scared of how he might react to it. Everything happens too quickly and Hamna’s worst fears come true.

Ishqiya Episode 1 Story Review - Mad Love & Limitations

The conversations and situations through which all the characters were introduced in this episode were for the most part convincing. It was easy to connect to the situations. The scenes covering the family life of the main leads were more entertaining than the scenes which were shot in the university. Having said that, the university scenes were important because they showed the intensity of Hamza’s feelings for Hamna. This part of Hamza’s personality will probably play an important role in creating an even bigger problem in the upcoming episodes. Hamza gave Mir Hadi (Khaani) and Adeel (Gul-e-Rana) vibes but I really hope that his character does not get too dark.

Final Remarks

Sadly enough, like always ARY has summarized the entire plot on its website. Therefore, we know exactly what is going to happen in the next few weeks. And once again I regret visiting the website to get information about the cast and for the teasers! All those viewers who don’t want spoilers should not visit the website.

While watching this episode I kept on wondering why Hamna could not share her secret with Romaisa who seemed quite ‘cool’. It would have been good if the writer answered this question instead of showing that Hamna just didn’t have the guts to do so! Also, why couldn’t Romaisa see that her sister was not happy with the proposal and that she was worried.

Some of Romaisa’s dialogues were hilarious and I enjoyed her cool and cute attitude. The parents’ characters were interesting too since they were not one-dimensional.

The preview of the next episode showed Hamna’s father pleading her to safeguard his honor and her meeting with Azeem suggested it would just be added pressure.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 15 Story Review – Repetitive

This was another slow-paced episode of Ishq-e-Laa with some of the tracks going around in circles and yet another tragedy. Shanaya was one of the better-written characters in the play; Azlan and Azka both have weak personalities. This episode showed another major change in Azlan’s track and Azka’s track showed more of the proposal scenario which is now putting me to sleep. Ishq-e-Laa does not give you a lot to reflect upon even though it started off as a drama that would offer much more than a romance thriller. Shanaya’s mother was always shown as an intelligent woman who raised a strong daughter yet she has not even tried to get her daughter justice. Watching the relatively likable characters exiting from the story one by one is not too promising.

Azka’s Track

Azka’s track opened with one of those repetitive conversations with her mother about her faith in Allah. These conversations are well-written but there is nothing new about them and they are not the least bit impactful since actions speak louder than words. Just yesterday, Azka was relying more on Abid than she was on Allah! Yes, this could have been a weak moment but then even in the latter part of this episode she was hopeless and was shown complaining about her fate. Someone who has so much faith in Allah would surely have more patience as well! Also, the way this character has been written makes me question whether Azka has a conscience or not. She has conveniently forgotten that she was the one who gave Shanaya the information that ultimately led to her murder. When she was praying to Allah, she forgot to ask Him to forgive her for banking on Abid more than Him! I don’t find myself feeling for Azka at all since her character does not have any definite traits. Seemi Raheal’s performance has impressed me more than that of Yumna Zaidi’s throughout. Her character is also etched out more convincingly.

The Azka/Abid track is turning out to be the most repetitive of all! I am wondering if this track is actually headed somewhere and even if it is, was there a need to stretch it so much? Each one of these scenes has been more or less the same including Kanwal’s reaction. These scenes are also overdramatic.

Azlan’s Track

I am all for character development when such changes are shown gradually and convincingly. Azlan was introduced as a stubborn young man who knew what he wanted from life. While it is understandable that Shanaya’s death impacted him more than any other, the fact that all of a sudden he has not once but twice taken some major decisions based on something his mother said out of anger, is not in line with his personality at all. He married Shanaya after his mother told him he could no longer see her if she got married to someone else. And now, he decided to pursue the case and alter his mindset altogether after his mother shouted at him! The writer is using similar scenarios to achieve multiple objectives which makes some of these scenes monotonous.

The scene covering Azlan’s meeting with the therapist did not work for me at all. It gave no new information and did not add anything new to this track. The viewers were already quite aware of Azlan’s state of mind and the therapist did not help him in any way! The writers should simply stop introducing therapists in these stories unless they offer something tangible.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 15 Story Review – Repetitive

I must say that some of the supporting characters in this drama manage to impress you more than the leading characters, which is not always the best thing since it is of utmost importance that the leading characters leave an impact. Tonight, Azlan’s father won me over more than Azlan! He felt guilty, unlike our holier-than-thou Azka, and did whatever was needed in order to pursue the case. Although, I must say that until last week it was not apparent that he had been trying so hard to get Shanaya’s murderer punished. If he was trying so hard, these scenes should have been given more screen time. However, it was good to know that he tried so hard but ultimately what lead to the heart attack seemed more like a ghairat ka masla than anything else! It was also strange that he went to have that conversation with someone he was trying to get punished for her daughter-in-law’s murder! Overall, however, the character definitely left a mark and Usman Peerzada did complete justice to it.

Final Remarks

Although I never expected anything grand from Ishq-e-Laa, the way the story is being taken forward is quite disappointing. However, I will be giving it two more weeks and if the story does not take off, I will no longer be reviewing it. The main plot is interesting but the characters and the situations are for the most part shallow and unconvincing.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 14 Story Review – Slow and Sad

Tonight’s episode of Ishq e Laa was relatively slow-paced. It showed more of what we watched in the previous episode therefore some of the scenes were highly repetitive. I hope that the drama picks up the pace because it is going forward in an interesting direction, especially Azlan’s track. Azaan Sami Khan’s performance in this episode was better than last week. Shanaya made regular appearances in this episode as well. This makes me wonder if such scenes are going to be a permanent part of the drama from now on. Azka’s track has disappointed me the most and for the first time, I feel that Yumna Zaidi’s performance falls short in some scenes. Azka has not once taken responsibility for what happened to Shanaya and she comes across as a self-absorbed individual at times although her mother’s dialogues suggest that she is a sensitive and caring person! Watching her ask Abid to bring the proposal hoping he will pay her fee was something quite unexpected from the girl who held her self-respect so dear and most importantly for someone who claims to have faith in Allah’s plan! This character is really confusing and so far it has got nothing going for it at all. Azlan’s track is relatively more interesting when compared to Azka’s.

Azlan’s Track

Azlan was yet again shown struggling to go on with life without Shanaya. His state of mind made perfect sense with the exception of his regular ‘’meetings” with Shanaya. He is otherwise in touch with reality, he knows Shanaya is no more and he also understands why his parents are concerned, yet he does not see this as a problem at all since he wants to continue “meeting” Shanaya and vowed to not let her die. Had obviously said this metaphorically as well but his mother’s reaction to his statement was confusing. The opening scene of this episode suggested that just like the previous episode, Azlan was going to make another one of Shanaya’s wishes come true although when she was alive, he did not agree with her at all when she went all out to help people. There was always a shallow side to Azlan’s personality and it seems as if Shanaya after her death will fill that vacuum up, making him more like her. Azlan never had the kind of spiritual strength which Shanaya had therefore it will take him some time to get there. Right now he is taking up one cause at a time and is determined to follow in her footsteps to some extent. Azlan’s grief in this episode as well was relatable and it made me feel for the character even though some of the scenes were too slow. Also, it would have been apt had Azlan gone to meet Shanaya’s mother.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 14 Story Review – Slow and Sad

Azlan’s scenes with his mother have definitely been praise-worthy throughout since they are always very organic. The apology scene in this episode when his mother reminded him that it was her birthday was one such scene tonight. Azlan’s parents continue to feel the guilt but they are just as helpless as Sultan’s family was when he got killed. I expected Azlan’s father to try harder, the preview of the next episode did suggest that his father might try to pursue the case once again and end up being yet another victim!

Azka’s Track

Azka’s family was shown going through a financial crisis after Sultan’s death in this episode as well and unexpectedly she shared her problems with Abid! The ‘rashan’ he brought made Azka go from ‘bhai’ to bring your rishta which was actually quite disappointing since Azka was introduced as a headstrong girl who did not believe in compromising on her principles. Kanwal turned out to be more resilient and sensible than Azka. Right now taking admission in the medical college is her first priority and even though she seemed to be relying on Allah by the end of the episode, her basic reason for agreeing to marry Abid was quite lame. Azlan and Azka’s paths will cross once again; it remains to be seen when. Not once have either of them thought about each other in the present situations in any context although I felt that there were a few instances when Azlan could have been reminded of the time Azka broke his perfume. Azlan was shown thinking about Shanaya’s wish for her but nothing related to their direct interactions with each other. Azka and Abid’s track has been going around in circles and I don’t find myself interested in it at all!

Final Remarks

Am I the only one who felt that there was an overdose of Shanaya’s scenes in this episode? I liked the fact that the writer has decided to keep her in the picture even though her character has technically exited the story but there were too many flashback scenes and the scenes covering her meetings with Azlan in this episode. I hope that Azlan’s track moves forward and honestly speaking after this episode I have little hope that Azka’s track will ever take off! Will Arbab Haroon get Azlan’s father killed as well? The preview of the upcoming episode suggested just that!

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 13 Story Review – The Aftermath

Tonight’s episode of Ishq-e-Laa had its emotional moments even though just like the previous episode the performances, the execution, and some of the details could have been more convincing. Azaan Sami Khan failed to add intensity to the scenes covering his imaginary meetings with Shanaya but these scenes were definitely well written and definitely unexpected as well. Even though Shanaya has died, the writer, for now, has kept her in the picture through such scenes. It was therefore interesting how the aftermath of Shanaya’s murder was covered especially with respect to Azlan. On the other side, Sultan’s family was also shown suffering while the person responsible for ruining everyone’s life lived comfortably with absolutely no remorse. The only aspect of the script which I felt was not up to the mark was how, yet again, Azka’s family’s reaction to Shanaya’s murder was covered. The entire approach was once again more practical than emotional. Azka did not even hold herself accountable for giving Shanaya the information which ultimately led to her murder.

Also, the fact that the women Shanaya was helping out were oblivious of the fact that she had been murdered was not easy to connect to. This episode covered the aftermath of tragic losses by both the families, Azlan’s father’s guilt, and much more. This episode could easily have been dedicated to showing the family’s reactions to Shanaya’s loss but thankfully that was not the case! The director and the writer deserve credit for taking the story forward and not ‘cashing in’ on Shanaya’s murder.

Shanaya and Azlan

This latest episode showed Azlan waking up imagining that Shanaya was by his side and throughout this episode, he kept on looking forward to meeting her. Azlan and Shanaya’s background as well as their present relationship made his reaction relatable. Shanaya was the one person in his life who had always been there with him in some form or the other – first a friend and then a life partner. When initially he was not sure whether he wanted to get married to Shanaya or not, he proposed to her only because he couldn’t imagine his life without her. The writer took her time setting the perfect foundation for this particular track and especially the aftermath of this tragedy.

The viewers also found out today that there was actually a bigger reason why Shanaya took Azlan with her to show him how she spent her days. Even though he had been in complete denial when he went to meet the woman Shanaya was helping out he told her that she had been murdered and provided her with the help she needed. This basically went to show that Shanaya will perhaps be able to change Azlan more after her death than she did when she was alive!

Tonight’s episode also covered Azlan’s father’s guilt and resulting attempts to get his hands on the murderers. Apparently, everyone knows who got Shanaya killed but no one has the guts to take action against the perpetrators. It remains to be seen how far Azlan’s father will go to avenge Shanaya’s murder. It was really odd when Azlan’s mother casually asked her husband why he wasn’t eating and if everything was okay when they were at the breakfast table! This particular scene was short but it made absolutely no sense!

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 13 Story Review – The Aftermath

Azka’s Track

Sultan’s family’s struggles were covered extensively in this episode. They struggled to keep the child they had saved, sane and safe. By the end of this episode, the financial troubles took over everything else. The way Azlan treated Kanwal when she came to see his mother in order to extend her condolences went to show that right now he did not have a soft spot for this family and he was not thinking about how he had treated Azka in the past. I have always felt that Azka and Azlan’s confrontations are a thing of the past. I am wondering if he will ever hold himself accountable for what he did back then and honestly speaking I feel that he should not since Shanaya more than made up for it! Also, this family does come across as thankless at times! There should have been more scenes showing how Shanaya’s death had impacted them since she had always worked for them so selflessly. Even though Azka had met Shanaya only once, such a young and tragic death would leave a person shaken yet the way she thought about Shanaya was completely void of emotions. The only good part of this track was Azka saying a prayer for Shanaya even though this was a dream sequence, I did however feel that Yumna Zaidi’s performance was not up to the mark in this particular scene.

Final Remarks

The story took an interesting emotional turn with this episode. Some of the recent developments were completely unexpected such as Azlan’s imaginary meetings with his wife and his present state of mind. I am definitely curious to find out what direction the story will go from here. The preview of the next episode also piqued my curiosity. The drama has a mystery/thriller feel to it as well. Out of all the performances tonight, I liked Laila Wasti’s short but powerful performance the most. Her performance went to show that a good actor can make his or her presence felt in the shortest span of time! How much more impactful could Azlan’s scenes have been if Azaan Sami Khan also performed just as exceptional as well. Uzma Hassan’s make-up in the scene at Azlan’s house was one of the many unrealistic make-up looks sported by different actors in this episode. While Azlan’s imaginary meetings with Shanaya made sense, showing such a scene with Azka was a bit far-fetched even as a dream sequence!

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 12 Story Review – Tragedy

With this episode, Shanaya’s journey came to a tragic end and Azlan’s actual journey has just started. This episode was penned down well but some of the performances and execution of a few of the scenes were not up to the mark. Shanaya’s exit from the drama was somewhat predictable right from the beginning since there was always a great deal of focus on the dangers involved in her line of work. Azaan Sami Khan performed well in the post-marriage episodes but tonight he failed to add the kind of intensity that would have made Shanaya’s death as impactful as the writer wanted it to appear on the screen.

Azka’s reaction was also the most disappointing element of this episode. Her practical approach at such a time did not go well with her character at all! This was a meaningful episode for the most part but it could have been far more powerful had the director compromised slightly on the ‘visual’ aspect of some of the scenes such as Azlan carrying Shanaya and running to the car and no bloodstains on Shanaya’s clothes after being shot! Some of the senior actors performed way better than the leading cast! Sajal Aly gave a solid performance but her overall look did not go well with the situations yet again which definitely affected the overall feel of these scenes and took away the realistic touch from them. Who goes after kidnappers and killers with a semi-formal look?

Tragic Ending

Azlan and Shanaya’s couple turned out to be a breath of fresh air for a few weeks. The gradual change in Azlan’s character ever since these two got married along with the kind of understanding these two had made this on-screen couple one of my favorites. It was quite evident that this beautiful love story was going to be interrupted by a tragedy. It was also clear right from the beginning that this would eventually turn out to be a transformation journey for Azlan. The “definition” of Ishq-e-Laa in the first two episodes suggested that the story will have a strong spiritual element to it as it moves forward.

Even though some of the most important aspects of the plot have been predictable, Ishq-e-Laa has for the most part kept my interest alive. Tonight’s episode showed how Shanaya put herself in a dangerous situation yet again without thinking about the circumstances. Shanaya’s faith in Allah was so strong that at times she relied solely on Allah for protection without taking adequate security measures even when they were a must! I always felt that this aspect of her personality was a bit extreme but her intentions were always pure therefore I found myself worrying for her than finding her annoying. Azlan’s reaction to Shanaya getting shot and fighting for her life was undoubtedly the most interesting element of this episode even though Azaan Sami Khan’s performance in this episode left a lot to be desired.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 12 Story Review – Tragedy

Azlan was always shown as someone who liked to be in complete control. Unlike Shanaya, he did not leave things to God or fate, he was sure that he was completely capable of running his life the way he wanted. Therefore losing control was a contributing factor to the anger and frustration he felt, apart from the loss of his wife who he loved dearly. Even when he prayed to Allah, his tone and choice of words were wrong. Azlan’s feelings were penned down so well by the writer, it would have been so great had Azaan Sami Khan breathed life into these scenes in an apt manner. The clarity in the writing helped me understand his reaction to this loss.

I was expecting a completely different reaction from Azka after hearing about Shanaya’s murder. She is an intelligent young lady who could have easily put two and two together yet she was too busy thinking about things which should have been the least of her worries. Her daadi’s reaction made a lot more sense and therefore was easy to relate to.

Final Remarks

The story took an interesting turn with this episode of Ishq e Laa. From now on the Azlan and Azka will perhaps be the main focus. While I am still interested in Azlan’s track, even after Azaan Sami Khan’s average performance tonight, Azka’s track has completely failed to impress. She is giving the viewers mixed signals for now! Also, I feel that even though Azlan did not have a strong faith in Allah, he was gradually transforming into a better person. The writer perhaps should have kept the negative elements of his personality alive right till this point in order to make people relate to the “lesson” he is about to be taught. Surely, he still has a lot to learn, and eventually, this loss might be a blessing in disguise for him. I just hope that Azaan Sami Khan will do justice to the character since the focus will be more on Azlan now than ever. I am looking forward to what the writer has in store for us next. The camera on the scene of the crime must have captured everything; will Azlan and his father succeed in getting Shanaya’s murderers punished? In which circumstances will Azlan and Azka meet next? I am waiting to find out.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 11 Story Review – Thrilling & Entertaining

This was another important and entertaining episode of Ishq-e-Laa. A few weeks back, I couldn’t t have imagined being so involved in this drama. Gradually the characters are shaping up and some of the characters which we had a difficult time even liking, in the beginning, are turning out to be the most pivotal and interesting ones. Azlan definitely tops the list for me as a sensible young man who has so many pleasant surprises in store for the viewers. When the drama started his first impression was entirely different. These changes also make me wonder why he was introduced as a shallow spoiled brat!

I always felt that the drama might be about his transformation journey but as is evident, he has already changed a lot. This latest episode was also thrilling. It has been somewhat obvious that something terrible might happen to Shanaya or perhaps Azlan – it remains to be seen who the victim will be. Or does the writer have a surprise in store? If the story continues to move forward with this pace, I am certain we will find out soon! It won’t be wrong to say that Shanaya and Azlan’s marriage has turned out to be a real game-changer! The story has become interesting and enticing ever since these two tied the knot.

Drastic Changes

Things changed drastically in this episode as well when Kanwal decided to take the case back in order to save her daughter. Unfortunately, this particular development in the story hit home since very often we have witnessed high-profile cases involving the rich and influential being closed for such reasons in real life as well. Even when the loved ones of the victims are determined to get the perpetrators punished they are pushed to a point where they have to take such decisions. This entire development was covered well from Kanwal and other family members’ perspectives. It remains to be seen if Azka made the right decision when she informed Shanaya about the kidnapping. I felt that the recklessness with which the child was handled while in custody by the kidnappers did not go well with the intention behind the kidnapping! They needed this girl to be well and alive but clearly, no one was trying hard enough to ensure that she was handed over to her family safe and sound.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 11 Story Review – Thrilling & Entertaining

Shanaya’s bravery was always her biggest strength as well as a weakness. More than once we saw her getting herself involved in situations that were extremely alarming. Many of us rightfully questioned these scenarios as well. After watching the preview, I am certain that these scenarios were shown in such a way for a good reason. This time around as well she will probably try to get a case filed against those responsible and she will get into even more trouble than she had ever imagined she would. Shanaya never asks for help but in the preview of the upcoming episode, she was shown asking for help desperately.

The best part of this episode had to be the way the relationship between Shanaya and Azlan was shown on screen. Their conversations were penned down beautifully and both the actors involved played their roles so well. It was especially refreshing watching Azlan questioning his egoistic attitude – I did not see that coming at all! He was also more than willing to extend his unconditional support to his wife, which was another pleasant surprise. He is more willing to listen to what his mother has to say as well. Azlan’s mother is another refreshing element of the drama. For a change, she is more vocal which has definitely made a huge difference.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode was well put together as a whole. The writer deserves special credit for showing the conversation about pregnancy between Shanaya and her mother in the most ‘normal’ way possible! Instead of jumping to conclusions or jumping with joy Shanaya’s mother suggested that she should get the test done! Most often such news is confirmed by the mother herself when her daughter feels nauseous after marriage in Pakistani dramas! Such minor things make a huge difference and make it easier for the viewers to connect to the characters. However, the entire kidnapping scenario was shown rather recklessly! The conversations between Azlan and Shanaya were undoubtedly the highlight of this episode. Their relationship looks ‘very real’ on screen and their love for each other is extremely heartwarming. Also, although I absolutely love the changes in Azlan’s behavior, sometimes these changes are a little difficult to relate to. Can marrying the right person changes a person so much? Overall, tonight’s episode had a lot going for it. It was thrilling and fast-paced. I am eagerly looking forward to the next episode.

Ishq-e-Laa Episode 10 – Clash of Principles

Ishq-e-Laa is turning out to be a far more interesting drama than I imagined it would be. Right from the beginning, it has been a surprise package since what was promoted as a love story turned out to be a story about soul searching and finding the true meaning of being close to the Almighty. Even though these themes of the drama have not been directly inculcated into the script at the moment, it is quite evident that the basic purpose of the drama is to highlight the true meaning of human existence. The characters are shaping up even more with every passing episode. A few weeks back I was unsure about the script because it did seem as if it might not have a lot to offer. However, so far I am pleasantly surprised for sure. Therefore, if you are one of those viewers who gave up on this drama early on, you should definitely give it another chance. The director has turned Ishq-e-Laa into a visual treat by making sure that every scene is shot beautifully sometimes at the cost of originality, which is never a good idea! However, for the most part, the visuals go well with the main theme of the different tracks. The on-screen chemistry between Sajal Aly and Azaan Sami Khan deserves a special mention since without it Azlan and Shanaya’s scenes would not be so powerful.

Difficult Decisions

Tonight’s episode covered many difficult and life-altering decisions made by some of the central characters. The writer did a commendable job of setting the perfect foundation for the important developments in this episode. The clash between Azlan and Shanaya’s thinking, their different ideas and ideals were clearly well established right from the onset. At the same time, the fact that both of them wanted to make this relationship work was also shown convincingly especially ever since they got married. However, Arbab Haroon’s role in this entire scenario and most importantly the kind of support Azlaan’s father extended to his friend was completely unexpected. This entire development was covered with the utmost precision. Shanaya’s father-in-law always came across as someone who wouldn’t impose his decisions on others but that is definitely not the case! He decided to stand by his ‘friend’s’ side owing to the benefits he was acquiring in his business because of him. Arbab Haroon was a client he could not afford to lose or offend.

A script that did not appear to be meaningful enough before has definitely taken off and is getting more interesting because of the depth and nuances that have been added to Azlaan and Shanaya’s track in particular. Also, initially, the scenes through which Shanaya’s bold nature was translated on screen were somewhat nonsensical but now that the story is moving forward, Shanaya’s principles make more sense than ever. Sajal Aly’s phenomenal performance made the opening scenes even more impactful. She translated the hurt and insult Shanaya felt impeccably on screen. Although Shanaya was shown “compromising” on quite a few things in the past, this was one thing she was not going to compromise on. She also made a rather sudden and life-altering decision tonight when she walked out when she felt that she had to compromise on her values in order to stay in that house. Once again, I couldn’t help but wonder how wholesome this entire track would have been had Shanaya’s mother been in the picture as well throughout. When she walked out of the house, I wondered where she was headed and whether we will actually get to see her mother or not! The viewers shouldn’t be left wondering about such things because of basic ambiguities in the script or screenplay.

It was an absolute pleasure watching Shireen (Shanaya’s mother) on the screen once again. Laila Wasti never disappoints when it comes to adding grace and subtlety to characters which she chooses wisely. Shanaya’s mother’s support for her and her open-mindedness has always been a breath of fresh air. Her relationship with Shanaya makes it even easier to connect to Shanaya’s personality and ideals. There are few characters such as Shireen’s that are the perfect balance of maturity, strengths, and vulnerabilities. Shanaya and Azlan’s meeting after she left his house was powerfully executed and penned down beautifully as well. Even though Azlan wanted her to change her decision, he was not being as unreasonable as his father. The OST has been composed and sung so well that the scenes in which it is played in the background automatically become more impactful. The complications between Azlan and Shanaya have not dimmed down the intensity of their feelings for each other. Sajal Aly and Azaan Sami Khan’s fiery on-screen chemistry makes this couple truly come alive on screen.

Arbab Haroon’s visit to Sultan’s house showed that he was wise enough to figure out that Shanaya was not even going to listen to her in-laws therefore he had to do something himself. He used the carrot and stick policy in order to pressurize Kanwal. He offered money and at the same time subtly warned her of dire consequences if she did not do what he wanted from her. Surprisingly, Kanwal did not pay heed to the threat at all and was even more determined than before to punish the murderers.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Ishq-e-Laa was well-paced and entertaining. The preview of the next episode suggested that Kanwal will eventually give in and take the case back. Unfortunately, this is the true depiction of the actual state of affairs in our country. I am more interested in Shanaya and Azlan’s meeting in the upcoming episode than anything else. Azka’s character has not come to the forefront just yet. Will Shanaya’s character exit from the story at some point?

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Last Episode Story Review – Hallelujah

Ohkay so, after a million flashbacks & gazillion commercial breaks, this dumber, oh I mean this bumper episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb marked the end of the drama. There was absolutely nothing in this episode that required them to cover it in double episodes. If they had edited out the flashbacks & had not tried the last time to memorize the entire drama to the viewers, which they already do, this drama could’ve easily ended in a single episode & also had made a bit of an impact. I will not mince my words & just straight out say that the very last episode of this drama was a torture to tune to. They had the very last chance to redeem themselves but it was an opportunity wasted. As much as I do appreciate the fact that it has met a happy ending, the way they took the story to that point was pointless, senseless & absolutely unnecessary. I guess the director & the editors themselves were so much in love with this drama that they wanted to see it all for the last time in this last episode, that is why they decided to add so many flashbacks which did the viewers absolutely no favor. It was like in a pool of flashbacks, there was a bit of story hidden which the viewers had to figure & find out like a riddle.

Few Developments In a Pool of Flashbacks:

Despite the fact that the drama makers had all the time on their hands to give this drama a proper ending, it still seemed abrupt where everyone was finding about everything & they were conveying it to everyone. Saleem got to know about Sameer’s statement that he gave to the police, so he informed his tundi family. Also, Akbar found out what Sameer had done for Gauhar & that he wanted her to leave. Instead of flashbacks, it would’ve been nice if they had actually shot some of the scenes which were necessary like Sameer’s conversation with Akbar.

This episode had two important scenarios to it, the first one being Sameer testifying that he killed Zoya. It was good that Gauhar also spoke to Zoya’s sister & her stance was made clear that she was not going to forgive Sameer but she did understand that his mental condition played a part in what happened with her sister. This had to be covered & it was good that they further elaborated it in the form of a court case & the verdict. Good job!

One of the worst developments in this episode were not only of Sabeeha’s suicide but the fact that she once again left a question mark upon the fact whether Sameer was Shakira’s son or Surraya’s? Like seriously? Just when they had pretty much clarified it by showing a wheelchair ridden lady & Akbar convincing Sameer that she was his mother, along with the fact that Sameer also believed him, they had to confuse the viewers further but honestly, at this point I will just say it doesn’t even matter. It would have mattered if the last episode in general had made an impact but at this point I am just too relieved that it has ended to be thinking about it. I think Rajab Ali must’ve taken Shakira’s child away & never came back. Sameer was actually Surraya’s son, therefore Shakira avenged the supposed death of her child by ruining Ehsan’s son’s mind & personality. Sabeeha’s letter also unveiled Ehsan’s reality in front of Sameer. Probably that was the only purpose it served because so far, Sameer did not really know much about his father Ehsan & the kind of man he was, so Sabeeha let him know. It is upsetting that when they had a perfect chance to clarify everything & just end everything by giving viewers clear cut answers, they chose to make it ambiguous, anyways!

Saleem’s regret, Jahangir’s imprisonment – none of these scenarios were important & didn’t make much of a difference because as a viewer, I was already done with these characters, therefore there was no need to show these two. Once again, the focus on flashbacks & unnecessary scenarios made the last episode lose its impact. If they had edited out all the flashbacks & had just given us a clear cut ending focusing on the current scenarios in everyone’s lives, it would’ve ended the drama on a very high note. The strategy that the director & the editors opted for didn’t really do much & no lies, I actually have a headache listening to the loud OST!

Donia & Kashif’s scenario was tackled decently. However, I still fail to understand why was Donia so shattered upon learning that Gauhar was the girl Kashif was in love with. She knew all along that he used to love someone & was probably in love with her till date, so why did she make such an issue when she found out that it was Gauhar. Donia got a clarification she needed to trust Kashif, not that she deserved one. Gauhar was fully focused on Sameer even before she got married to him & after their marriage, she fell in love with him too which was obvious, so the least Donia could’ve done is not insult Gauhar’s intelligence as well as her loyalty towards her husband, thinking she was cheating on him with her ex. May be things were meant to be this way because it was a done deal that Donia was in love with Kashif & he was not, but there was absolutely no chemistry between Sami Khan & Zarnish Khan. However, they both did their best & gave these characters the best treatment they could. Sad that Kashif’s character didn’t have much to offer but Donia was a decent character, until she became a victim of self-imposed pity!

The Highlight of The Drama:

The final & the best development of this episode; Sameer & Gauhar’s reunion. However, before that happened, it was a huge mistake on the director’s part to shoot Sameer being in jail when the court had already given a verdict that they were releasing him, so why was Sameer still sulking in jail? Anyways, the last scene was iconic & definitely sweet. The poetry was beautiful & it was nice to Sameer in a totally different avatar. A new person, humbled, grounded, someone with a completely different outlook on life, ready for a new beginning. Gauhar was calm & composed like she always was. She had this aura that she had been through a lot but had come to terms with everything & now she could deal with anything that came her way. Gauhar & Sameer’s love story was beautiful. I would’ve liked if instead of showing Shakira & her close-ups, they had shown more of their relationship in the previous episodes because it was special and one of a kind. It was nice to see Gauhar being so selflessly in love with Sameer & Sameer, despite his complexes & fears learnt that someone could love him like that. Zahid Ahmed & Sonya Hussyn looked absolutely beautiful together in the last frame & I think that is the moment that I will keep with me, the rest, the less said the better.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Last Episode Story Review - Hallelujah

Ishq Zahe Naseeb definitely could’ve been a ground-breaking drama with unique story, brilliant & powerful performances, IF the producers had not decided to stretch it & bring all those changes that they did because it was too obvious that the drama & the story lost its track & charm the moment they took that decision. Although, I do not follow any news about the dramas due to the fear of spoiler alerts but just when I could feel they had made those changes, I was notified by the lovely readers that I was not wrong because they actually did. Adding Shakira’s story & dragging it, unnecessarily long flashbacks, giving more screen time to unimportant characters, not giving enough screen time to the important ones, treating Gauhar’s character as an afterthought & just confusing the viewers with one riddle after another with no definite answer in sight made Ishq Zahe Naseeb lose its charm. It is sad that the drama which could’ve made to the list of best dramas will definitely not score a spot there because of the way it was treated.

Zahid Ahmed; The Star of The Show:

Zahid Ahmed hands down is the star of this show. If it wasn’t for his brilliant acting & phenomenal portrayal of Sameer’s character, this drama would not have received an iota of the viewership because of the way it was tackled in the second half of the drama. Yumna Zaidi was good too but it isn’t her mistake that the director made us hate Shakira’s character by showing her close ups all the time. Sonya Hussyn also did a fairly decent job as Gauhar, she was phenomenal in some of the scenes for sure. Sami Khan & Zarnish Khan also should be proud of themselves for doing justice to these characters. Zahid Ahmed should take a bow for giving the best performance of his career till date & we can only imagine how high his graph is going to go henceforth. Hashim Nadeem really did a fantastic job in exploring this domain & writing on this subject but I honestly feel for him because all the changes that were made were definitely not in his control. This is where the producers go wrong when they get rating-hungry. The director did his part well in the initial episodes where he created the mysterious vibe & played with that element but then everything went downhill quickly. It is unfortunate that the drama which deserved nothing but appreciation was heavily compromised upon. Poor direction and worst editing made this drama lose its charm. and flashbacks are a whole new story. I am glad that the 25 weeks of flashbacks & probably 6 weeks of story has finally come to an end. Also, I think it was a huge mistake on Sonya Hussyn’s part to share the BTS of last scene of Gauhar & Sameer on her Instastories. This is something that I have heard she had done, which I think was the biggest spoiler alert & she should’ve been careful! Anyways, please share your thoughts about the final episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb, if you’re still awake after 2 hours of dumber, oh I mean bumper episode because like they reinforced throughout the drama; ‘ai re ai, nindiya ai’.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Ps: Thank you all the lovely readers for keeping the discussions alive on Ishq Zahe Naseeb’s thread. Also, I am now going to binge-watch Yeh Dil Mera & will start reviewing it ASAP. :)

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 9 Story Review – Brilliant Performances

Opening Thoughts – Phenomenal Performances:

Ohkay so, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb had some phenomenal performances to its credit. The story has started to progress now & a lot more is being revealed, which is now making Ishq Zahe Naseeb an interesting drama to tune to. The direction is making a lot more sense & I am glad that the not-so-needed flavors have subsided & the focus is now on emotions & circumstances of all the characters. This kind of script obviously needed the seriousness & I am glad that has finally kicked in.

Kashif Broke The Silence:

Jahangir created quite a scene at Gauhar’s workplace. Jahangir just wanted to let Gauhar know what he was capable of. It was his tact of intimidating Gauhar so that she feels oppressed & understands that she does not stand a chance against Jahangir. Sameer was disturbed because he didn’t really approve of the drama that Jahangir created at his home, but also because he found out that Gauhar was engaged to a man like him due to the debt her family had to pay.

Gauhar knew that she’d have to do some answering but she was finally pushed to the limit that instead of simply answering her family, she ended up giving them a reality check too. Saleem has been a useless brother, a selfish one at that who just dances on his wife’s tunes, that is why Gauhar reminded him that he had no other choice but to simply accept the fact that Gauhar was working at someone’s house. Saleem thought he was doing the right thing by questioning Gauhar but then, he just showcased his hypocrisy & nothing else. Gauhar has made up her mind that she will continue to work but she did take a little break till the situation normalized at her home. Gauhar’s transition into this mature young girl who is bearing the responsibility of her family has to be one of the best aspects of this drama. I am so glad that she had this side to her too & that is now being elaborated. I will however say that hearing all the things that Gauhar’s mother said to her about having no other ‘option’ than to just marrying her off to Jahangir was quite disappointing. They are helpless, that is a fact but to let your daughter know that she is being used as a barter bargain is the worst thing that parents can do to their child.

Kashif just wanted to do something nice for Dunya by checking upon her but she turned it into another chance of insulting him. Kashif knew that he was tossing away an amazing job for the sake of giving Dunya a reality check but he still acted impulsively & said everything that he had in his heart. Kashif was silently observing Dunya & he did realize that due to her medical condition, she had become tunnel-visioned. Dunya believed what she wanted to believe in & because she was trying so hard to fight her insecurity, she thought everyone was only being ‘nice’ to her because of what she considered her insecurity too but Kashif told her otherwise. Kashif actually respected Dunya, it was because he saw the potential in her & he respected her for the fact that she was running such a successful business on her own but then Dunya saw his respect as a sympathy as well. That exchange of words between Dunya & Kashif was my favorite part of this episode. I am so glad that something has happened in this track as well. Dunya did need this reality check but because she had erected these walls around her, no one could dare say the truth to her but Kashif decided to say it out loud, not to anyone else, but to Dunya, on her face. Bravo! It felt as if Dunya’s father was relieved too that someone did tell her to think & look beyond what is physical state is, he knew that Kashif’s words were bitter but were much needed for Dunya to come out of this bitterness & get back to her happy-self.

So, Sameer could see that his mother has become pretty comfortable with Gauhar & she was also getting used to having her around, that is why when she didn’t show up, she was flustered. Sameer will now do everything to bring her back. Gauhar has left quite an everlasting effect on both Sameer as well as his mother & she is not even aware of it yet. Sameer’s mother has tried to do a lot more research regarding Sameer’s condition, only out of her pure concern for her son. Finally, they did give a name to Sameer’s secret, he has multiple personality disorder & yes, his caretaker that he met in his childhood named Shakira has left quite an impression on his mind, due to which he has not been able to take her out of his mind & has imbibed her personality to keep her alive. Shakira was a voice to all of those evil & negative feelings that crossed Sameer’s mind & because he couldn’t do that himself, he started relying on her persona to channel them out, interesting! I am glad they finally addressed it & now they will show us more about Sameer & the one whom he refers to as Sameera now.

Closing Thoughts – Sami Khan: The Star of The Episode:

Overall, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb was brilliant. Sami Khan was definitely the star of this episode & he showed what a seasoned performer he is. Sami Khan showcased the anger & frustration that was pent up in Kashif just so effortlessly that it actually left a mark & he outdid himself. That scene was so spectacular that taking your eyes off the screen was impossible. Brilliant acting by all the actors in Ishq Zahe Naseeb so far, Zarnish Khan as Dunya, Sonya Hussyn as Gauhar, Khalid Malik as Jahangir & Zahid Ahmed as Sameer/Sameera are doing wonders. Ishq Zahe Naseeb’s plot is unique but the fact that all these actors have joined hands to bring it to us in such a convincing manner is commendable. Hashim Nadeem has chosen a very complex subject but I am glad he is narrating it just so simple for everyone to understand & take something from it. I am glad they have stopped relying so much on the OST but I could do without it totally. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 7 & 8 Story Review – Intense

Opening Thoughts – Intense & Interesting:

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Ishq Zahe Naseeb were intense & very interesting. I like how the story is unfolding now & they are giving us more insight into the characters & their lives. From last few episodes, they have started to focus a lot more on the real issues & it is now gelling in together to form an interesting narrative.

Insight Into The Characters:

Gauhar did not back out from her job. Even after she was humiliated, she continued because more than feeling for herself, she felt for Sameer’s mother. Gauhar knew that there might be a reason why Sameer behaved that way but then she had no other choice than to just forget & move on. Sameer was uneasy at what he did, it is like he doesn’t want to do all of this but he ends up being mean. All this while they kept on giving us hints about the traumatic childhood that Sameer has had & that showed that it has shaped up his personality. Although Sameer could not control the circumstances back then, but somehow he seems at peace with his personality & his life at this stage. Sameer likes routine, he likes everything systematic, Gauhar has entered his life & she is breaking the rules he has set, which riled him up but as he started noticing Gauhar more, he could feel that she was basically a good change, a much needed change that his house & his mother actually wanted.

Kashif got to learn more about Donia & her past. Donia’s father sees Kashif as a trustworthy person, that is why he shared the pain Donia has been carrying with Kashif. Finding out more about Donia made Kashif change his mind about her, not that he was complaining but he was unable to figure out why she behaved this way, why she had erected her guards & believed in giving others a hard time. Kashif continued to do his work but then, he was excelling at his work & that what made Donia ease out a bit in front of him too.

Donia was engaged to her cousin Farhan, but after she developed muscular atrophy, Farhan left. I really liked how they took us back to show the kind of relationship that Donia shared with Farhan. Even though there was a lot of liking that they both had for each other, they were still not soulmates, they were not compatible & they didn’t really have that mental wavelength. Farhan was already feeling trapped & suffocated by being in a relationship with an opinionated, strong-willed, level-headed girl like Donia & even though Donia could see that Farhan was not into her as much, she continued to ignore it. Donia was in denial, because she loved Farhan so much, she didn’t want to even think about the possibility of him not loving her as much as she did.

Sameer mended his ways & allowed Gauhar to take the decisions that she wanted to from now on. Sameer could see that Gauhar’s presence has brought a good change in his house. Gauhar has realized that Sameer’s mother is just lonely, that is why she made a personal request to him. Sameer has seen that Gauhar has also had a good influence on his mother, so he was kind of happy & relieved that Gauhar will not run away like the previous governesses.

Gauhar’s professional life is full of challenges & hardships, it is not an easy job by any means but Jahangir is now making her personal life difficult too. Gauhar has so much on her plate right now but she is just doing her thing because she wants what is best for her parents. This entire fiasco over a huge car coming to pick & drop Gauhar was so real & typical at the same time. People couldn’t stop talking & no one for a second thought that Gauhar must be doing something noble, they just judged her as per their perception & limited vision. Jahangir decided to show what he was made of to Gauhar by barging into Sameer’s home but then Sameer intervened. Now this incident will further force Sameer to develop a soft corner for Gauhar in his heart because he will see that a girl like Gauhar who is so full of potential is just going to have her life ruined due to family pressures. Sameer was also dealing with the rekindled agony of losing Zoya. Her cousin showed up & accused Sameer of being a murderer. Sameer once again didn’t really bother much & put a brave face in front of everyone but after he found out that she was Zoya’s cousin, he couldn’t take it out of his mind.

Closing Thoughts – Brilliant Direction & Acting:

Ishq Zahe Naseeb has surely begun & the story is getting interesting with each passing episode. The direction is intelligent & the little moments which have been left out to the viewer’s imagination is making it even better of an experience to watch. All the actors are surely delivering their characters to perfection but Khalid Malik is on a whole new level. Zahid Ahmed & Sonya Hussyn are doing their job well too. Zarnish Khan has given a perfect treatment to Donia’s character. I wish to see more of Sami Khan & I am glad that the next episode showed Kashif lashing out on Donia. It will be quite interesting to watch. Please share your thoughts about these episodes of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 6 Story Review – Great Episode

Opening Thoughts – Great Episode:

Ohkay so, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb was amazing. With this episode I feel like I can finally say that the story of this drama has begun & now we’re going to have a great time exploring all these characters in a lot more detail. There was nothing about this episode that I could fault & I had a great time watching it.

Gauhar & Kashif’s Priorities Have Changed:

Gauhar has shown to Sameer’s mother that she is here to stay. She will abide by the rules & do beyond what is expected from her. Gauhar is taking this job as an escape from her bitter reality, which is far from the kind of dreams she used to dream for herself. This escape has not only forced Gauhar to keep her mind off, but it has also instilled a sense of responsibility in her because the thought of the fact that she has to pay her father’s debt doesn’t slip from her mind too. These are the reasons why despite so many restrictions, Gauhar has not even thought about leaving this job for once. Everything about this house & family is strange, it is odd, there are a million reasons for Gauhar to leave & never look back but she has decided to stay because she is desperate for this opportunity.

Gauhar continued to learn more & more about Sameer’s family & then she also kept on finding out that there were so many secrets that this family had. Gauhar is putting up a brave face in front of her family & it was nice to see her playing all cute & sweet in front of Jahangir & his mother. Gauhar has now started to play quite a lot of roles. At her work, she is mature, authoritative & focused, at home, she is observant & courteous, in front of her fiance, she is just keeping it simple & sweet but deep down, she can not stand him. Gauhar’s journey so far has been quite interestingly told, where things have totally happened opposite to what she had imagined but still, she is not complaining.

Kashif has finally started to make an impact on his boss as well. She was trying very hard to not really give him any kind of importance, or make him feel that his opinion was welcomed. Kashif let her know that he was far more capable than she had imagined & he was better than her previous employees who she fired left, right & center. Kashif was not only perseverant, but he was focused on doing his job well. Kashif’s thought process, his priorities, everything has totally changed. The Kashif who was dreaming about his marriage is now focusing on the reality that he has his sister to marry & take care of two younger sisters too. Kashif has also become quite responsible & this break up is actually turning out to be the reason behind Gauhar & Kashif’s mental & emotional growth.

Sameer has strictly ordered that no one is supposed to disturb him when he is in his room, but Gauhar couldn’t care less. She was only concerned about his mother & her condition. Gauhar took a decision on her own & she had no idea what the consequences were going to be. Once again, Gauhar underestimated the strangeness of these family members because she assumed Sameer will actually thank her for saving his mother’s life but instead, he punished her for going against the rules. Gauhar couldn’t believe what had just happened but then, she actually didn’t know that for Sameer, his rules were more important than his mother. In this episode, nothing much was shown about Sameer’s second personality but the focus on Gauhar & Kashif’s track was done well which made this episode interesting.

Closing Thoughts – Substance:

Overall, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb was very good & it did feel like finally we’re getting to see some substance in the story. The preview of the next episode once again promised a lot more drama & unveiling of some secrets, which I am sure is going to be a lot more interesting too. Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan, Khalid Malik & Zahid Ahmed are performing brilliantly. Ismat Zaidi usually plays the role of a sweet mother but it is good to see her in this kind of character where she is rigid & authoritative. Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 4 & 5 – Story Review

Opening Thoughts – Some Progress:

Ohkay so, in these two episodes of Ishq Zahe Naseeb a new chapter started in the lives of Gauhar & Kashif. This is what the focus in these two episodes was that after the heartbreak, both Kashif & Gauhar were trying to move on & they were finding solace in doing something for their families while putting themselves behind everyone else. This drama has quite a lot of flavors in it like it has mystery, it has comedy, it has melodrama, it has family politics, but then at this moment, I am kind of finding it hard to feel that they all gel well together. May be it will change in the future episodes, so here’s to hoping.

Kashif & Gauhar Are In The Same Boat:

Bushra got married & Gauhar was content that she contributed in Bushra’s happiness by not going after her own. Gauhar also got a job in Bushra’s office, this was Gauhar’s way of stepping in Bushra’s shoes. Gauhar knew that after Bushra’s marriage, she was the one who had to take the responsibility & do what it takes to get rid of her father’s debt. Gauhar finally stepped into a practical world & she learnt it the hard way that there was no place for love or relationship in her life anymore. She was now going to be her parents’ support system & that is what she was focused on entirely. Gauhar was appointed as Sameer’s mother’s governess & after contemplating, she realized that she had no choice than to avail this opportunity as she was eager to find a job. This job is also Gauhar’s way of escaping the thoughts of Kashif & take is as a distraction from the kind of life she imagined she’d have with him.

Gauhar realized immediately that her boss was going to give her a very very hard time but then she was ready to take this challenge too. I liked seeing how immediately Gauhar matured mentally where now she was thinking about everyone else but not herself. Gauhar’s bubble got burst & she was not a day-dreamer anymore. Sameer kind of used Gauhar as a filler to silence his mother for the time being & he obviously would’ve never thought that she was going to have an influence in his life from now on. Gauhar learned all about Sameer, his family & how things worked – it was enough to scare her but then she wanted to stick to this job as she was there for his mother & she didn’t seem too keen on why everything was a bit bizarre about this family.

Kashif has landed himself a new job & his boss is no different. Despite being physically restrained, Kashif’s boss has not let it get in her way or being a successful businesswoman. She has raised her guards as she knows that she is vulnerable & because of that she does not let anyone cross any limits with her. Kashif’s colleagues knew that she was giving him a hard time but then Kashif himself is so heart-broken that he didn’t feel a thing. He is numb & he is also trying to move on because he knows that he has a family to take care of too. It is interesting to see how both Gauhar & Kashif are more or less in a same situation where their bosses are now going to rule their lives & they won’t find a way out of this!

Sameer’s mystery woman got a little bit of introduction too, Shakira was Sameer’s babysitter & it looked like she had some psychological issues too & because Sameer’s step-mother had given her his entire responsibility, Sameer ended up imbibing her personality. May be this is what happened or Shakira was always that imaginative character who gave words to the Sameer’s feelings. This entire equation is getting quite interesting & I am sure there’s more to it. Sameer’s fiancee did get to see Sameer in a different getup & she was petrified, what happened after that is a mystery too. It was worth noting how roles have been reversed, Sameer must’ve longed for his mother’s gentleness & kindness when he was young but she didn’t have any of it to offer to him, & now when she is bed-ridden, she longs for his attention & kindness but Sameer doesn’t have that to offer.

Closing Thoughts – Over-usage of OST:

Overall, these two episodes of Ishq Zahe Naseeb definitely improved & took the story forward. Khalid Malik is a very interesting character too because he brings in that comic quotient which kind of breaks the monotony of mystery & changes the mood completely. His minute expressions as Jahangir were a treat to watch in this latest episode especially. The rest of the cast is doing really well too. I so hope they cut down on the usage of the OST because it is anything but melodious or easy on ears. They could’ve totally relied on any instrumental music in those dramatic scenes but the OST is very distracting & draws your attention away from the intensity of the scene. Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 3 Story Review – Family Over Love

Opening Thoughts – Same Old Same Old:

Ohkay so, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb was strictly alright. I now feel that the real story will actually kick start when Sameer & Gauhar’s path will cross because so far what we’re seeing isn’t something new & doesn’t have much of a wow factor. No doubt about the fact that the director’s approach towards each & every scenario is different but it boils down to the point that we have seen all of this before & the only new aspect is Sameer’s split personality, so I am sure that is going to be quite an interesting thing to see & explore.

Gauhar & Kashif Chose Family Over Love:

Gauhar’s brother Saleem accepted Jahangir’s proposal for her. Even though everyone in the family was not convinced, not even Gauhar’s parents but Saleem basically saw this as a financial deal because it was giving him the freedom from the debt of Qayyum & he availed it. Jahangir is quite a character & even he lives in a bubble just like Gauhar to actually think that he is someone super special, a sought-after bachelor sorts. Jahangir’s scenes provide some sort of comic relief but I am not sure if that’s the right kind of mood that this story in general requires.

Bushra wanted to make sure that Gauhar gets to be with Kashif that is why she asked them to get done with the Nikkah. Bushra’s main motive was to unite Gauhar & Kashif but then part of her was ready to face the brunt of having her wedding called off because being a practical person that she is, she kind of had an idea that Kamran wasn’t emotionally or mentally strong enough to stand by her side. Bushra was taking the risk which would’ve cost her wedding, but she was fine by it as far as it meant seeing Gauhar happy with Kashif.

Kashif was ready to get married to Gauhar because he has loved her with all his heart but then he couldn’t really take his mind off the fact that he had a responsibility of his sisters & he was their guardian. Gauhar also couldn’t bring herself to be selfish especially when she has seen Bushra being selfless & kind to Gauhar all her life. Gauhar accepted Jahangir’s proposal & Bushra also couldn’t get in touch with Kashif. This was something that kind of left both Kashif & Gauhar in the dark, they both felt guilty but they both still didn’t know that they backed out & didn’t fulfil their promise. Kashif didn’t come because he decided he couldn’t turn his back on his family & Gauhar didn’t either as she didn’t want Bushra to go through the humiliation of having her wedding called off. It was good that they both just didn’t find out the reasons behind their decisions but then, they were on the same page. May be later in life they will find out the truth but for now, they will continue to blame themselves for breaking the promise.

Closing Thoughts – Waiting For The Fireworks:

Overall, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb didn’t really do much. I am now eagerly waiting to see how the story will unfold once Gauhar & Sameer will come in each other’s lives because I am sure that’s when the fireworks will happen. I think I will get to form an opinion about Sameera/Yumna once the true identity of this character will be revealed but for now, she looks strange but rightly so because that’s what this entity is all about. Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan & Jinaan Hussain have been brilliant. Khalid Malik is doing a wonderful job as Jahangir too. I wish the story kick-starts soon because so far, it’s hmmm…alright. However, the dialogues in this episode were really nice. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 29 Story Review – Sameer’s Mental Breakdown

Ohkay so, this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb finally took the story to the point which was shown in the upcoming promos of the drama. At this point, I am just keen to see how it is going to end. This episode was good in bits & pieces, but then this has been the pattern that the last probably 10 episodes of this drama has had. It is Zahid Ahmed who breathes life into almost every single episode & makes it work. If it wasn’t for his brilliant acting, I am sure this drama would’ve lost a lot of viewership when they started dragging it. As much as I was looking forward to the prison scene, when it actually happened, I was left wondering about the impact it would have made if they had kept the pace of the drama steady & this scene was shown at the right time.

Sameer’s Mental Breakdown

Sameer ended up giving Sabeeha everything that she wanted. Sabeeha tried to once again play the victim card but Sameer let her know clearly that it was not going to work anymore. It is unfortunate that Sameer learnt all about his mother the day he lost her. Sameer’s character has been written to perfection, it showed that the person who was already struggling so much psychologically was pushed to the limit where he lost control & actually felt he couldn’t take it anymore. Sameer’s entire life has been a lie, traumatic childhood & then the lies that he was brain-fed about his mother, someone who a child loves irrespective of their shortcomings. To be honest, it does make me wonder why didn’t Akbar tell Sameer anything before? It is safe to assume that Akbar started working in Sameer Villas years ago, therefore what took him so long? Why couldn’t Akbar create such a scenario like by giving Sameer hints which would’ve finally lead him to Surraya, so that he could tell him the truth? I know the writer wanted it to be this way but then again, we all are free to ask questions.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 29 Story Review - Sameer's Mental Breakdown

Anyhow, Sameer decided to walk away but then Sabeeha tried to tell him that she raised him as a mother. I think that was the right moment for her to explain herself. Sameer would’ve obviously not bought what she’d have said at that point but she should have spoken to him. She even decided to stay in her room after she learnt that Surraya died & Sameer told he was going where his mother was, clearly depicting that he was contemplating suicide! I am not sure why everyone’s sabun is so slow in this drama. Not that Zahid Ahmed has not acted brilliantly in this entire episode, but the walk on the staircase after Sameer tells Sabeeha that he is going to be with his mother showed the clarity in his thoughts for once – that particular moment was brilliantly acted out by Zahid Ahmed. Hats off!

Gogo Pan Masala

Well well well, talking about Gauhar – as much as I liked her character & to some point still do, also as much as I loved the interaction that Sameer & Gauhar had as a married couple, I hate to see her character being treated as an afterthought. The way her track singlehandedly has been written & carried out in these last few episodes makes her look unconvincing & unrealistic. She left by writing a letter & all of a sudden in this episode, she was back & ready to behave as Sameer’s wife more than ever. It made it look like she didn’t leave in the first place? Also, when Sameer showed her the pictures, the Gauhar that we know would’ve immediately spoken to her husband to clarify, rather she let him be, knowing the kind of trauma he was going through because it clearly showed in his behavior & demeanor but she chose to give him the space he shouldn’t have been given. She took her sweet time, changed her clothes & came back to sleep peacefully ignoring completely that she had to clarify her position. The writer gave us a strong character in the form of Gauhar but it is sad how the continuity issues & poor execution has compromised on it & now her character is failing to leave an impression that it used to in the beginning. I must say in the middle of the chaos, going out of the house & then coming back, Gauhar definitely must’ve spent a good amount of time in the nail salon because her pink & golden manicure was a bit too eye-catching!

The Highlight of This Episode

Sameer decided that the only way he could deal with this entire situation was to end his life. This entire scenario was heart-wrenching & once again, the credit solely goes to Zahid Ahmed for conveying Sameer’s feelings & emotions phenomenally, with so much precision & perfection. I wouldn’t give the director any credit because this time around, it was Zahid Ahmed who did the heavy lifting & showed how much he had imbibed the character of Sameer as well as Sameera that he effortlessly portrayed everything that was running through his mind in that scene. It was unfortunate that Sameer pulled the trigger but based on a misunderstanding, clouded by her hatred for Gauhar, Sabeeha decided to hold her responsible for what happened & accused her. What could’ve been the most intriguing part ended up becoming predictable because the viewers already knew that Gauhar will go to jail & rescued by Kashif.

I definitely ruled out Sameer’s death. I am sure the lawaris janaza that has been spoken about in the preview of the next episode would be of Sabeeha. She already seemed too guilt-stricken that it was affecting her mental health. She has no one by her side, no offspring of her own, no family, absolutely no one, so may be she will pass away or end her own life. I am hoping for a happy ending for Gauhar & Sameer though. I think the viewers who have invested so much time in this drama deserve that at least, plus it will impart a good message that those who have psychological issues can always fight & find ways to not only deal with, but also bounce back from their issues.

Zahid Ahmed Stole The Show

This episode hands down belonged to Zahid Ahmed. The episode overall was poorly executed & had a lot of issues. It was also amusing that when Gauhar was being dragged by the police, they chose to play the romantic version of the OST, the same song which they used to show Donia dreaming about Kashif & dancing her heart out with him. Not feeling much for Gauhar or even Sabeeha. Totally felt for Sameer. Also, the entire sermon Bushra gave to Saleem also didn’t make much of a difference. I don’t think after seeing Saleem being a vulture for 29 episodes, he will redeem himself in the last episode by doing anything anyways. So looking forward to this drama’s end. Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 28 Story Review – Just End It

Ohkay so, I guess the only good thing about this episode is the fact that it has drawn the ending of this drama closer. It is absurd that the drama makers actually assumed that dragging a story like Ishq Zahe Naseeb would be a great idea. Guess what, the charm that this drama once had has been killed. I am just waiting to see how it ends & going by the preview, if they actually kill Sameer’s character, then I will definitely see it as a time wasted.

Unconvincing Situations:

In Ishq Zahe Naseeb, both Sami Khan & Zarnish Khan got a chance to showcase their acting skills & they made the most of this opportunity. Both Sami & Zarnish have performed brilliantly in this drama, however, their characters have absolutely lost the charm they once had. It is unfortunate that in the khichri of Shakira/Surraya/Sameer/Sameera, the writer started treating Kashif & Donia as an afterthought because their characters have got nothing to offer. Kashif is a one-dimensional, halat ka mara bechara & Donia, the girl who had so much happening for herself, had that sass, ended up becoming a victim of self-imposed misery. Before getting engaged to Kashif, Donia exactly knew that he was in love with someone, so how does it matter if that girl happens to be Gauhar & she has found about it now? Donia has blamed Gauhar for being equally responsible in betraying & deceiving Donia, which is bizarre. Donia knew what she was getting into, she was mature enough to asses that Kashif was never into her, so why is she reacting? To be honest, as much as Zarnish’s acting has been nice, this entire twist is uncalled for & so unnecessary that I find it boring!

This episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb contributed a lot to the noise pollution in Pakistan. The merging of one soundtrack into the other was also so poorly done that instead of adding some depth or emotions in the situation, it ended up being such a big distraction. In the scene where Sameer read Gauhar’s letter, I could barely hear him because of the annoyingly loud music. Sameer himself saw Sabeeha having an argument with Gauhar while assassinating her character & instead of stepping into that situation to save Gauhar from Sabeeha’s accusations, Sameer found the time to hallucinate. The very next day, Sameer seemed shocked when Noorah told him that Gauhar left after having an argument with Sabeeha, it was made to look like as if Sameer had no idea about it happening!?!?! I am sure even the director is confused & can not keep up between the switching of the scenes that he ended up making such a basic mistake. Director saab please end this drama, we have had enough & I am sure you’ve had enough too!

I don’t find Sabeeha or wouldn’t even find Sameer wrong if they react on Gauhar’s unannounced trips to outdoors. She got married into such a family which has always been very sophisticated & has followed a proper schedule as well as decorum for everything, so for Gauhar to just go in & out of the house out of her whim, that too without informing anyone does raise a lot of questions on her. Gauhar has always been someone who was conscious about her surroundings, the people around her, so for her to just do what she deems right, without informing her husband obviously means she is going to invite troubles her way, that too when she knows that Sabeeha’s on her case & is looking for reasons to throw her out of the house.

Sameer found out about Gauhar & Kashif. Jahangir & Sabeeha met & devised this plan – this entire situation did not interest me at all. What difference does it make & why can’t Sameer, like an adult speak to Gauhar about it & find out everything? Obviously she must have some explanation to give too? It was amusing that in this entire episode, there was not even a single interaction between the husband & wife, the only time Gauhar spoke to Sameer was through a letter – Bye Bye Whatsapp! Funny that Gauhar has been in contact with Kashif over the phone but when it comes to Sameer, she chose to write him a letter…logic!

Two things were made clear in this episode. One being that Shakira thought her son had passed away, that is why she did all of that to Sameer, it was kind of a revenge on Ehsan to mess the brains of his only son. Second, that the wheelchair ridden lady was Surraya, Sameer’s biological mother who dramatically passed away the moment Sameer came to see her! I am sorry but I really don’t know how to react on this because instead of feeling for her or Sameer or Akbar or finding this entire situation emotional, I ended up having a good laugh. May be the direction of that scene or the brief that the actor was given was funny, but I had a great time laughing my heart out. Yes, I think this is how the viewers end up taking a drama non-seriously when they drag it so much, plus the 4 commercial breaks weren’t helping either. Once again, good that Sameer has gotten clarity about Sabeeha but how is it going to do him any favors psychologically, he is quite disturbed already, isn’t he?

I feel it was unlike Gauhar that she decided to leave only because she had a spat with Sabeeha? Gauhar was not paying heed to her anyways & she was only focused on taking care of Sameer, so what happened there? I found this decision of Gauhar quite irrational & the entire situation unconvincing. It is quite obvious that even the drama makers are finding it hard to wrap this drama up, that is why most of the situations are not making much sense & are just being pushed to the limit.

Just End It:

The preview of the next episode suggested that may be Sameer will end up shooting himself or the trigger will be pulled by Gauhar by mistake, which means we’ll get to see the scene shown in the promos of Gauhar being dragged by the police & lying in the prison telling Kashif that she killed him. I think may be Sameer won’t die but Gauhar will assume that she killed him. The relationship that started off on a note of good communication was compromised due to unconvincing half-baked scenarios, it just does not make much sense. My only wish is to see this drama end because I am sure the viewers just like me have had enough. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 27 Story Review – Powerful Episode

Ohkay so, it was the most powerful & iconic episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb. This episode worked for me because there was absolutely no focus on Shakira’s half-baked story & there was a lot of progress in Sameer & Gauhar’s track. This episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb had some of the most unforgettable moments as well as phenomenal acting done by both Sonya Hussyn & Zahid Ahmed. The main thing I noticed was the misleading promo that was shown last week because none of those scenes were a part of this episode, which goes to show that even the drama makers acknowledge the fact that people have lost interest in Ishq Zahe Naseeb, so in order to give them reasons to tune to it again, they had to show one of the most important scenes which was not even a part of this episode. Anyhow, it seemed as if after a long long time, the main leads got the screen time they deserved & it was enough to keep me engaged.

Gauhar Took Charge of The Situation

Gauhar has started tackling Sameer the way she deems right. She knows she has to allow him to channel out all that he has been keeping inside, in order to get better & what’s rewarding was that it worked. Gauhar pushed the wrong buttons for Sameer to word his feelings. Sameer has been a lonely child, he has barely any such relations in his life which he has a good memory of, or that he can cherish. This is the reason why against all odds & strong opposition of his mother, Sameer brought Gauhar in his life because he wanted one such relationship that he could call his own. Sameer also saw Gauhar as a person who’d be able to help him & she has proved him right.

It was absolutely amazing seeing Gauhar being so selflessly involved in Sameer, to the point that she does not even care what might be the consequences. Gauhar also has been opposed by Sabeeha but her focus is Sameer’s well being. Gauhar’s selflessness also denotes her selfless love for her husband. She has finally fallen in love with Sameer to the point that she accepts him for who he is & wants him to get better. Another interesting aspect was Gauhar’s contact with the Doctor, it is like she is taking everything in consideration while she deals with Sameer. It is definitely worth mentioning that they have also shown the importance of a doctor and medical assistance needed in this case, which is one of the strongest points. I would’ve liked if they had also shown Sameer going to the doctor himself & finding out how he can get better. I think it might happen in the future because for the first time Sameer shared what was in his heart & he also acknowledged the fact that his traumatic childhood experiences shaped his personality in a manner that he is not proud of. Before this conversation, Sameer always saw himself as a normal person who did not have any issues but slowly & steadily he is growing comfortable with the idea of acknowledging his problems & is now also looking for solutions.

Another important revelation was Sameer admitting that Sameera killed Zoya. I am not sure how they are going to justify it. Yes, there have been some conversations about how damaging multi personality disorder can be for the one who is suffering from it but I hope they just do not brush it under the carpet & show Sameer doing something which gives Zoya’s family some kind of emotional or moral compensation. Gauhar has also put this secret of Sameer’s past aside because she wants to see a better version of him, someone who is not going to harm himself.

The most powerful scene of this episode was Gauhar transforming herself into Shakira & appearing in front of Sameer. At that moment when Sameer is sleep-talking, as if he is giving words to his nightmares was when Zahid Ahmed’s flawless acting made me emotional. He was so realistic, where he seemed disturbed, scared & yet someone so innocent who was tired of being chased by the demons of his past. The moment when Gauhar finally realized that she actually succeeded in giving comfort to Sameer & the fact that he also saw her as a comforting figure was so rewarding & beautiful. This entire scene was absolutely brilliant because it showed that Gauhar was finally in control of the situation & that she was actually helping Sameer the way he deserves to be helped.

Donia’s outburst was also very convincing. She has hated disloyalty & this was the last thing she expected from Kashif, someone she was ready to trust. To be very honest, I did feel for Donia but I find Kashif’s character absolutely boring & one-dimensional. He is coming across as a halaat ka mara bechara who at first could not get married to Gauhar because of his family burdens & now he can not commit himself fully to his fiancee Donia because he is still holding onto his feelings for Gauhar who actually is married to someone else. That scene was nicely acted out by both Zarnish Khan & Sami Khan but I do not find their track least bit of interesting, therefore I couldn’t bring myself to feel invested in Donia’s heartbreak & Kashif’s unexplained explanations!

Zahid Ahmed Stole The Show

This episode for sure belonged to Zahid Ahmed as well as Sonya Hussyn. I am so glad this episode worked for me & I as a viewer got a break from Shakira/Sameera’s track because it was getting burdensome watching half-baked story of hers. I guess my happiness would be short lived because she will appear in the next episode once again. It is definitely going to be interesting seeing Sameer & Sameera’s battle where he wants to move on in his life but Sameera is going to hold him back. I think it is definitely high time that they should end Ishq Zahe Naseeb. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 26 Story Review – Some Developments

Opening Thoughts – Few Developments:

Ohkay so, this drama is a classic case of good story ruined due to poor execution & probably hunger for ratings. It is unfortunate that the drama makers decided to extend this drama & change the ending. I am glad they showed a promising preview of the next episode because that is the only reason why I will be tuning to Ishq Zahe Naseeb next week. Mystery is always good but there’s a way to execute it but unfortunately, the greed of touching the 30 episode mark has absolutely taken away the charm this drama once had. A few important scenes here and there in an overall average episode has been the pattern of Ishq Zahe Naseeb for quite some while now & it is unfortunate that this is not even close to ending anytime soon.

Unnecessary Lies:

Kashif & Gauhar are digging their own graves. The way they are hiding the truth about Jahangir from both Sameer as well as Donia is uncalled for. Kashif & Gauhar are associated with two mature individuals who themselves have had a past. Sameer was engaged to Zoya, similarly Donia was engaged to her cousin. So, there’s no reason why Kashif & Gauhar can not tell Sameer & Donia the truth that they were together in the past & had to move on due to unfavorable circumstances? Both Sameer & Donia are not narrow-minded tunnel visioned people who will not understand that their spouses could have a past & were once interested in each other? Why is it such a big deal anyways? Gauhar has seen how Sameer has stood by her, he has always been supportive of her, plus now when she is married to him & taking care of him, he will have all the more reasons to be understanding & accepting of her past. Sameer has always made it obvious that he can not stand lies, therefore I am not sure why Gauhar thinks she will get away with this. Similarly, Donia has always been understanding & Kashif has already told her that he was/is in love with someone, so what difference would it make if she finds out that the girl Kashif had an affair with in the past happens to be Mrs. Gauhar Sameer, who has very much moved on? Unnecessary scenario, unnecessary linking up of Gauhar & Kashif.

It is actually frustrating to see Gauhar & Kashif acting all suspicious thinking they will be able to fix this thing by hiding the truth from their partners. Jahangir is out to get Gauhar, so it is absurd of her to think that she should not involve her husband Sameer & rather let her ex-boyfriend tackle the situation for her. Lying is a bigger problem than hiding the truth. The way Gauhar has been acting suspicious & trying to seek permission to go out without actually telling Sameer about her plans is quite unconvincing. At one hand, they have shown Sameer to be quite controlling of Gauhar & on the other, he doesn’t even ask about her plans, that’s just unlike him. Sameer is quite authoritative, he is sorted & he always wants to know the complete picture so for him to be ok with a vague answer is unconvincing. Also, not sure why Kashif had to meet Gauhar in person to tell her about Jahangir’s blackmailing. In an era of widely used mobile phones & Whatsapp, he has to meet her to inform her, knowing it might put her in an awkward position is another funny detail!

Interesting Aspect of The Episode:

The only interesting aspect of this episode was Gauhar & Sameera’s interactions. It is good that Gauhar has now started dealing with this entire situation seriously & she is now doing everything to push the limits to understand how far Sameer can go. Gauhar has also found out that Sameer is capable of hurting someone when he is in the Sameera mode, which made her think whether he was responsible for Zoya’s death or not. I am glad there was progress in this track, which happens to be the ‘ONLY’ interesting aspect of this entire drama. Give me Sameer/Gauhar’s scenes anytime over Shakira’s flashbacks & Kashif Donia scenes & I’ll be happy.

I think I will now only discuss about Shakira when they will reveal it all, it is tiresome thinking about her where they are deliberately not giving much away & keeping it as a suspense. Chalo phir aisay hi sahi. There was a time when despite the overdose of Shakira, I was interested in her story & track but this episode has put an end to it.

The important detail which was laid out in this episode was that Shakira killed Ehsan, which means Sameer is also capable of killing someone. I do get it, Sameer imbibed her personality, he observed her closely, he likes the idea of her, of being with her but not sure imbibing her personality ‘traits’ is realistic or a bit of a stretch. I am not sure if Shakira must’ve told Sameer that she killed his father Ehsan, for him to develop those tendencies too. Shakira wanted to take away that manliness from Sameer & she wanted him to be his ‘saheli’, so for Sameer to kill someone when he is actually in the ‘saheli’ mode is hard to grasp. One thing which Shakira has reinforced is that she did not want Sameer to be a man enough, a man like his father!

They have so far shown Sameer, channeling out “his” innermost feelings/secrets through Sameera, so when did it turn out to be the case of Shakira channeling herself through Sameer to the point that she can make him kill someone either? Yes, she did say that she will live through Sameer because she knew she had damaged his impressionable mind quite a lot but to now turn Sameer into a ditto copy of Shakira where he also can kill someone because she has done that is again hard to absorb. If that’s the case then may be Sameer will commit suicide because Shakira did too (if the wheelchair ridden lady is not Shakira *rolling my eyes*). I think they will give Sameer a clean chit in the end by showing that he was not himself when he killed Zoya (if he did), but anyways. Hoping they put an end to these ifs & what nots ASAP. I am glad Gauhar decided to take this matter in her hands & dealt with it her way. Those interactions were the best part about this episode & both Sonya Hussyn & Zahid Ahmed acted phenomenally in those scenes.

Closing Thoughts – Good Acting:

Zahid Ahmed & Sonya Hussyn should be very proud of themselves for phenomenal acting. They have stayed true to the essence of their characters & have been in the element right from the beginning till this point of the drama where everything is probably losing its grip. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 25 Story Review – Engaging Episode

Opening Thoughts – A Lot of Developments:

Ohkay so, a lot happened in this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb. I am glad that there was a lot of development in almost all the tracks because I absolutely feel it’s high time they should wrap this drama up. Once again, this episode ended on a cliffhanger but then it is pretty obvious what it is going to be. At this point, I feel a lot of time has been invested in this drama, therefore I am just keen to find the answers. I really hope in the ending episodes, they actually take the time to clear everything up because they have been leaving a lot to the viewer’s imagination for the most part, which is definitely good but I hope they don’t leave any loose ends when this drama ends!

Kashif Should Be Honest:

For the first time, I felt Kashif should be honest & truthful to Donia. Although he was never into her but he got engaged to her after thinking things through, yes he made a sacrifice so now, the least he can do is just respect it & also respect the fact that she is putting in so much effort into this relationship. Gauhar is married so Kashif needs to move on too. The first thing Kashif needs to do is tell Donia everything honestly so that she knows what she is dealing with & how she can take care of Kashif’s emotional state. He was fine with the idea of being engaged to her but ever since he has come across Gauhar, he is stuck on her which is fine but it is totally unfair to his fiancée. Donia deserves Kashif’s attention, honesty & truthfulness because he himself signed up for it so to see him depriving her of it is not cool.

Gauhar’s Approach Towards Sameer:

There are definitely flaws in the direction of this drama & how certain things are carried out, which definitely makes you question why such details were not taken care of. We all got to see how Gauhar actually had to make an effort, seek permission, inform Noorah & let Sabeeha know that she was going to see her family. She had to ask Sameer twice, which was fine that she is now being cautious & doing everything according to Sameer’s liking & limitations set by him. This made me wonder how did she go to see Akbar in the last episode out of nowhere? What was the excuse that she used? Sameer is definitely being very particular about Gauhar, so it just didn’t really seem convincing that she went to see Akbar, that too to police station without informing Sameer, like how did she go out of the house?

So, Gauhar met her family & she got the chance to set the record straight. She is never turning back. I am glad her family is done with because their scenes were fillers anyways & didn’t have much to offer. Jahangir’s scene however was an important development which came as a shock to Kashif. Jahangir is problematic & that is why Donia immediately figured that something was absolutely wrong about the entire scenario that she got to witness. Kashif should at least take Donia on board because she obviously has a soft corner for Gauhar. Donia also has high regard for Sameer so she would definitely understand & would help Kashif get his message across to Gauhar. Kashif trying to deal with this on his own is basically going to create a lot more problems for Gauhar & it is unfortunate that he is underestimating the gravity of the situation!

One of the highlights of this episode was Sameera’s confession to Gauhar about Sameer & his complexes. Sameer has always relied on Sameera to channel out his inner feelings, his secrets, his fears & complexes, therefore he once again relied on her to let Gauhar know that he was afraid of heartbreak. He was raising his guards & he didn’t want to be fooled. Gauhar is getting to learn more & more about him, which I feel is actually turning out to be a teamwork which is so important for a healthy relationship. Sameer is letting Gauhar know everything about him gradually & Gauahar is picking up on all the details which are helping her understand Sameer better. In a complicated relationship like this which demands a lot of emotional heavy-lifting from Gauhar, it is nice that Sameer is being a total help to her instead of making things difficult & complex for her. Sameer knew he had to show his vulnerable side to Gauhar when he contemplated getting married to her, so it is nice that he is being easy on himself & relying on Gauhar for the help he needs. I like seeing how Sameer has this faith in Gauhar that she will not only understand him but help him deal with his issues too. Good to see a relationship of this kind on-screen.

So, Shakira has turned out to be his mother & she is definitely the woman on the wheelchair in old age home. This was something that was hinted clearly by the end of 20th episode & now they have made it clear. Sameer doesn’t know about it but in his subconscious, he has always seen her as a figure of comfort, solace & love, which the figure of mother is all about. Sameer is bitter about the word ‘mother’ but he has developed those feelings for Shakira without even knowing about the bond that they both share. In one of the Sameera’s scenes, it was suggested that in his imagination he sees her as his mother that is why he is so emotional about her, which was sweet!

I really hope they don’t play with the feelings of the viewers anymore because the picture that Gauhar showed to the lady while talking about her & her son Sameer was of someone else & not Shakira. Is it that Akbar has not told Gauhar the reality that his sister who happens to be Sameer’s mother is not actually Ehsan’s wife but the maid Shakira that was raped by him? So, Shakira spent years away from Sameer & when she came back, she took her revenge by killing Ehsan. To be honest, when I saw Ehsan, I thought he was a misfit, they should’ve picked up a man with some strong personality, someone who’d have been intimidating to the point of being scary because the Ehsan that we saw had no personality whatsoever. In fact his bodyguard Rajab Ali had more personality than him. I would have liked if they had picked someone having more or less a similar personality like that of Sameer’s/Zahid Ahmed’s because it would’ve left more impact. He may be a side character but he definitely was an important one considering he played such a huge part in ruining Shakira’s life & that they were saving such an important secret till the ending episodes.

Shakira & Sabeeha:

The scene where Shakira was playing with a toy & seeing it as her child was so heart-breaking & brilliantly acted by Yumna Zaidi. In that scene she explained everything that Shakira went through; a rape victim who had a child, whom she loved dearly but had to lose him. The last scene might confuse some of the viewers where Shakira was seen telling Sabeeha that she avenged herself by killing Ehsan, where after doing so she crossed paths with Sabeeha. It means Ehsan was very much alive when Shakira came back to take care of Sameer & she killed him when she got the chance. How come Ehsan was unaware of the fact that Shakira was back OR was it that Sabeeha appointed Shakira after Ehsan passed away to take care of Sameer? I feel this somehow clarifies Sabeeha’s position a bit too, that may be she picked up on the fact that Shakira who was taking care of her step-son had psychological issues, that is why she accused her of alleged child molestation to save Sameer & get rid of Shakira. Sabeeha’s decision & her planning must’ve been wrong but I feel her intent was to save Sameer. Yes, she had an ulterior motive because Sameer inherited everything that his father had but still, she wanted to save Sameer from Shakira because they have shown it quite a lot of times where Sabeeha was keeping tabs on Shakira & closely monitoring everything that she would say to Sameer.

Closing Thoughts – Good Episode:

I am glad this episode had a lot of developments. I really enjoyed Sameera & Gauhar’s scene the most. All the actors have done a great job & I really hope they continue to reveal the story in the upcoming episodes without any hiccups because it’s about time. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.

PS: Totally unhappy with the change in Hum TV’s schedule – 4 commercial breaks while watching a drama makes it very very difficult to stay engaged. They are literally killing the charm & breaking the momentum which is needed to watch an episode. I really hope they go back to the old ways of 2 commercial breaks because it was enough. This is a bit too much!

Ishq Zahe Naseeb Episode 24 Story Review – We Need Answers

Opening Thoughts – We Need Answers:

Ohkay so, this episode did not have any flow whatsoever. The editing was choppy & none of the scenes seemed correlated, which made it hard to keep my interest alive while watching this episode. I feel they should now stop with the hints, clues & guesses & just reveal the story because that day isn’t far away when the viewers will start chanting ‘ye tabah hua, ye fanah hua, drag ho ho ke ye drama sua hua’. They have kept the viewers in the dark & have left quite a lot to their imagination for a long long time, therefore it’s high time they should reveal everything & end this drama tameez se because now it is getting burdensome tuning to it.

Choppy Editing & Boring Episode:

Gauhar wanted to know more about Sameer but he could not tell her what she wanted to know. Sameer still underestimates Gauhar thinking that she will not be able to deal with the truth about his 2nd personality. To be honest, as much as I was excited to see Gauhar dealing with Sameera, the way things happened in this episode just did not make much sense. At the beginning of the episode Gauhar was looking for answers & she was confused about the lies Sameer was fabricating, then she met Kashif Donia, she had a conversation with Sabeeha, she met Akbar & the very next moment, she was applying lipstick on Sameer’s lips? Am I missing something here or in the middle of replaying flashbacks, they forgot to shoot those important, defining & explanatory scenes where they could have shown Sameer becoming comfortable enough around Gauhar to allow her in his personal space? That scene made it look like they have been married for months now where Gauhar slowly & steadily broke the ice & made Sameer comfortable? I know they have shown Gauahar as Ms. Fix-it, a wonder woman who sorts everything with an invisible magic wand but this one was too sudden & abrupt! They have been skipping a lot of important scenes & are expecting viewers to miraculously & magically understand everything that they have not been shown! Convenience much?

All the other scenes such as Sabeeha’s conversation with Gauhar, Kashif & Donia’s visit at her place & even her conversation with Akbar didn’t hold my interest. I am glad that a lot happened in this episode but the way things were laid out did not work for me at all. This episode in simple words was boring despite showing a lot.

I am not sure how I feel about the fact that they are now trying to humanize Shakira. Also, I am glad that the very last scene made things clear & put things into perspective but before speaking about that, I want to mention that while watching this episode, I was wondering what difference would it make if the woman Akbar is taking care of is Sameer’s biological mother & not Shakira? They have invested a lot of time in showing Shakira, so that old lady better be her because otherwise I don’t think viewers will have any reason to warm upto that woman purely based on the fact that she happens to be Sameer’s biological mother who was non-existent in the entire drama. On the other hand, they have made Shakira’s character an integral part of the drama, so I am sure like I suspected after watching the 20th episode, the woman that Akbar is taking care of is Shakira!

The very last scene suggested that Shakira was abused by her boss probably Ehsan, she had a baby, that boss took that baby from her & sent her away. So, now are they trying to suggest that Ehsan had Sameer with Shakira out of wedlock & Shakira actually happens to be Sameer’s mother? I am fine with this development, like I wouldn’t mind if she is Sameer’s mother but going by what they have shown right from the beginning, where Shakira kept on messing up with Sameer’s personality & his impressionable mind, I feel even if she was his mother, why would a mother do that to her son? If Shakira came back & got the opportunity to take care of Sameer under Sabeeha’s supervision, why would she waste her time teaching him all those things that he’d have a hard time unlearning for the rest of his life? IF Shakira actually is Sameer’s mother, that development is totally fine but if being a mother she deliberately messed up with his brains, then I am not sure what to feel about it & also the fact that they are trying to humanize her character!!!

Closing Thoughts – Ruining The Otherwise Perfect Drama:

I feel now in order to drag this drama & by adding more details, they are now ruining what otherwise was a perfect drama with intriguing storyline & different yet dynamic characters. They have decided to change the ending, that is fine but I feel the writer was may be pushed to change the storyline & he was forced to tamper the vision that he had for this story & the direction he wanted Sameer & Shakira’s track to take, this is why it is coming across quite unconvincing & uninteresting. I am not too pleased with the fact that even though the drama is in its final stage, we are still left guessing & wondering at the end of every episode? When are they going to give us solid answers respecting the time we have invested in this drama already? It is unfortunate but even Zahid Ahmed’s convincing acting could not save this episode at all. Anyways. I am not sure how others feel but I cringe every time I hear Bushra or Gauhar’s mother calling her GOGO? Pleaseee! Also, it seemed while shooting these last episodes, Sonya Hussyn barely had 5 minutes to get ready because her makeup looks messy & poorly done. Not the look she should sport considering she is a newly wedded bride. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Ishq Zahe Naseeb.
