After the success of Waar, Maula Jatt will be Bilal Lashari’s second film and it is already set to be huge with names as Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik and Mahira Khan attached to the cast. The film was expected to release next year but recently the CEO of Bahoo Films Corporation, the company which produced original Maula Jatt, has sent notices to all the actors of the film to stop shooting. According to him, Bilal has not purchased the rights of the film and he is not even willing to sell them. The CEO Muhammad Mutaqi has come forward with a message on social media as he says that Bilal is using their characters and story without any legal permission. Watch his message here:

Famous Pakistani filmmaker and actress, Parveen Rizvi, has tested positive for Covid-19. She confirmed the news today on social media and requested her fans to pray for speedy recovery.

Sangeeta appeared as a celebrity guest on Good Morning Pakistan on 16th of December, Wednesday. She shared the stage with more than twenty models and danced with full energy along with viral girl, Nimra Ali.

A day after appearing on Good Morning Pakistan, Sangeeta came to know that she is a coronavirus patient and quarantined herself at home. She further said that she is displaying no symptoms of coronavirus.

Well, we hope for a speedy recovery of Sangeeta from COVID-19.

Brishkay Ahmed, an Afghan-Canadian famous filmmaker is now doing something to improve the rights of Pakistani women through her latest film. Her previous film was called story of Burqa: Case of a Confused Afghan.

Her film is among the nine features on the 12th Vancouver International Women in Film Festival.

The festival is going to open on International Women’s Day with Iranian director/writer Narges Abyar’s movie, Breath.

Let me confess that after watching Fawad Khan in the Khoobsurat remake, my first thoughts were that he was yet another one of those good-looking guys who definitely made the girls go gaga.

But all this was before I fell ill. For the first time, perhaps, I was glad of being bedridden with a bad back. Because it was during this period that I discovered Fawad Khan, the actor. While flipping channels, I chanced upon one of his tele-serials on the Zindagi channel. In five minutes, I was hooked. After half-an-hour, I started calling my contacts for copies of his serials. And for the first time in my life, I became a devout serial watcher.

Watching him underplay his characters, in serials like Zindagi Gulzar Hai is a treat to watch. There is a thehraav in the way he handles his scenes. He knows the art of speaking with his eyes. His silences speak volumes. No other actor (and I’m talking purely in terms of acting here) made me come out in goosebumps as he does.

If only prospective filmmakers took time out to watch his serials, he would surely land better films. A little bird told me that Karan Johar’s mother Hiroo Yash Johar is a huge fan of his. Hiroo aunty has witnessed generations of stars come and go and her instincts can’t be wrong.

Watching all those Pakistani soaps set me thinking as to why our TV content remains the way it is. Their serials genuinely attempt to tell a story. They are wrapped up in maximum 20-24 episodes and don’t drag on for years together. They are shot beautifully and the actors act with a nuance that is found lacking in our soaps as well as our films. The senior actors too aren’t shortchanged and are given author-backed roles. Most belong to a theatre background and their command over scenes; over language makes you feel you’re watching some forgotten Kamal Amrohi or K Asif film.

They say art blooms in the midst of unrest and maybe the volatile socio-political climate of their country breeds better poets, better writers and better actors. Or maybe they are a little more professional, a little more concerned about their craft than our artistes. Borders shouldn’t become the graveyard for talent. Let’s hope the tension between our two countries evaporates and better cultural opportunities prevail. Insha’Allah! – Filmfare

Bollywood’s most acclaimed award show, Filmfare Awards 2017 shocked the entertainment fraternity of both India and Pakistan by nominating Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Qurut-ul-Ain Baloch despite the ban on Pakistani artists but as it is said Art is beyond borders.

Four Pakistani stars made it to the nominations list of 2017 but none of them were awarded at the event which held last night. Fawad Khan couldn’t bag his second Filmfare award for Kapoor & Sons, since his co-star Rishi Kapoor won it in the Best Actor In A Supporting Role category. Fawad Khan was awarded as Best Debut Male in FilmFare 2014 and he even bagged the Diversity Award at the 2016 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Qurat ul Ain Balouch lost out to Neha Bhasin, who was the singer of ‘Jag Ghoomeya’, in the Best Playback Singer (Female) category.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam were nominated in the Best Playback Singer Male Category but the award was won by Arijit Singh for Ae Dil Hai Muskil. Both Atif and Rahat have been nominated several times earlier too and this time turned out to be like every other one.

An Indian filmmaker has refused to attend the 62nd Filmfare awards over the nominations of Pakistani artists. The filmmaker who is a recipient of several Filmfare awards has taken the move as a show of protest and said that will not attend any ceremony in which Pakistani artists are invited.

At least four Pakistani artists have been nominated for the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017. Fawad Khan has been nominated in the Best supporting actor category for his role in ‘Kapoor and Sons’, while Atif Aslam has been nominated for his song ‘Tere Sang Yara’ from ‘Rustom’. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been nominated for his song ‘Jag Ghoomya’ from the movie ‘Sultan’. Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch has been nominated in the Best Playback Singer (Female) category for her song Kari Kari in Pink

It is reported by Bollywood Hungama that a celebrated Indian filmmaker has protested against the nominations out of respect of the Uri attack martyrs.

“It’s a matter of self-respect. We are not welcome in Pakistan. They brutally kill and maim our soldiers. And we behave as if our cinema can’t do without their artists? Kuch toh sharm karo (have some shame).” did not name the filmmaker, reported Bollywood Hungama.

There are very few celebrities who get the second chance to reestablish themselves as actors and it seems like Lollywood actress Sahiba is one of them. It has been heard that Film-star Sahiba, who left film industry 15 years back after getting married to film-star Afzal Khan, will now make a comeback to the film industry with the movie  “Saya-e-Zuljilal”. been produced by Shaan.

Sahiba quit her acting to look after her family and take care of her children but now that the children have grown up, she is focusing towards her career again and is also seen in a morning show with  Husband Jan Rambo.  According to resources, producer Shan actually took special permission from Afzal Khan to let Sahiba work in his film, which was welcomed by him.

The actress would be seen in  a lead role in the movie and all her fans are quite happy with the news. Lets see how things turn out to be for her after 15 good years,

After multiple delays film Tamanna is finally releasing on 13th June 2014. Starring Salman Shahid, Omair Rana, Mehreen Raheel and Faryal Gohar, the film is produced by Sarah Tareen and directed by British director Steven Moore.  It also features three songs, two in the voices of Amanat Ali, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan while third one is yet to be revealed.

The female lead role of the film will be done by the popular singer Rabi Peerzada and the male lead role will be performed by the actor /model Adnan Khan. Adnan has previously done a movie “Mohabattan Sachiyaan”, Though Rabi will be making her debut.

According to sources Rabi revealed that she belongs to a conservative family, she wanted to be part of the silver screen from along time but the kind of films which were made previously did not gave her space to seek permission from her family. The movie Shor Sharaba revolves around a cross-collaboration story of India and Pakistan. Due to the vast coverage and story line, the shots of the film are visualized on different locations. The production of the movie is expected to end this March.

Rasta is an upcoming action-drama film. It is directed by Sahir Lodhi and produced by Moid Ul Hasan, Dr. Faisal Zia and Sahir Lodhi. Sahir Lodhi will be playing the lead role and the rest of the cast includes Shamoon Abbasi, Naveed Raza, Sana Nawaz, Aijaz Aslam, Saima Azhar and Saleem Mairaj. The song in the trailer is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, composed by Kamran Akhtar and Saji Ali while the lyrics are written by Saji Ali and Sahir himself. Wow! That was the instinctive reaction that evoked as I witnessed the songs of the upcoming Pakistani film “Parey Hut Love”. As a Pakistani living abroad I am so proud of how our Film industry has developed and progressed in the past few years.

Yesterday accidentally I came across songs of “Parey Hut Love” and was so proud of the Cinematography, choreography, and execution of dance moves. Now we have moved on from robotic moves with no emotions and expressions attached. Soulless dance moves are what we had suffered for years, where lyrics, dance moves, and facial expressions did not complement each other and the essence of songs was lost. Facial expressions reflect the mood of a song and have a major impact on performance and execution. Songs of PHL seem to have worked on all these major aspects and the result is evident. Zara Noor’s dance moves were outstanding.

I was so proud of the songs, as if I owned them, that I recommended others to watch and they appreciated it too. These songs should be taken as the benchmark by Pakistani movies to follow, match and excel. The choreographer of these songs should train other choreographers in our film industry. This need will become apparent when you watch songs of the movie “Superstar” with robotic, non-rhythmic dance moves.

Lately the official trailer of the film Jeewan Hathi was shown in Karachi by Matteela Films & Footprint Entertainment at an exclusive event with the cast of the movie along with the respective press and media.

Jeewan Hathi (The Elephant in the Room) is an upcoming Pakistani dark comedy short film directed by Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi and written by Fasih Bari Khan. The film will be released on Zeal for Unity short film festival.

Jeewan Hathi is produced under Matteela Films.The film is directed by the duo of Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi who previously directed Zinda Bhaag (2013). The film is written by Fasih Bari Khan, produced by Shailja Kejriwal and co-produced by Vikas Sharma. The cast of the film includes Samiya Mumtaz, Hina Dilpazeer, Naseeruddin Shah, Saife Hassan, Fawad Khan, Adnan Jaffar, Nazarul Hassan and Kiran Tabeer.

The soundtrack of the film consist of two songs by Ali Aftab Saeed and Sahir Ali Bagga and lyrics by Hasan Mujtaba

Mahira Khan has clarified that she is not offered indian movies as been reported in press. Mahira feels for recognition in acting in dramas as well as in modelling. Mahira is not ammused by the rat race of number one in any field. She was talking to media at the launch of film O21 in Karachi.

Mahira said, film is not her preference but she spare her time for dramas and modelling. Mahira told she is working in a film Bin Royee Aansoo directed by Sultana Siddiqi while more offers are also in the bag. Many producers want to cast her. To avoid monotony, Mahira also seek to appear in different roles and quality work. Mahira enjoys working in Pakistani film rather then in any indian film. So far Mahira has worked in only film Bol, which was released in 2011.

Pakistan film industry is rising from the ashes but it can easily be said that this is because of the sole efforts of the private sector. Our government seems to neglect funding our film industry time and again. Nothing different happened in the Punjab budget this year.

In the recently announced Punjab budget for year 2017-2018, the film industry was neglected as always. Prominent celebrities expressed their anger at this.

The famous director Syed Noor said it was disappointing that the provincial government ignored film industry in the budget. He further said that the authorities should have allocated specific amount for the revival of the cinema in the country.

Veteran actor Ghulam Moinuddin complained that Marriyum Aurangzeb,the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting had promised to take steps in the betterment of the film industry but alas, these were just words as it turns out.

Shafaq Cheema, another gem of Pakistan media industry, also seemed outraged over this injustice with the film industry. He lamented that this industry always gets fake pledges and vows. He further expressed that if the government pays serious attention on this matter, then the industry can be taken on the top again.

Javed Sheikh had similar grievances that every year the film industry is promised of funds, development, and every year they are disappointed.

Hotal is an upcoming film produced in Karachi and directed by Khalid Hassan. As per producer claims it is first ever Pakistani film of psycho thriller genre. The film stars meera in lead role while rest of the artists are new comers.

As per press reports the shooting of Hotal was completed in the first quarter of 2014. However now the producer has also decided to include an item song in this film. The song Maum Batti (means candle in English) is already recorded in the voice of an Indian singer Jasmine Sandlas. However the name of the item girl of this song is yet to be made public by the producer.

The end of the year 2017 saw the release of three big films with Rangreza and Arth-the destination releasing on 21st December. Both films had the plus points of a big cast and did good promotions too. Rangreza and Arth both were of the same genre and were being considered as big releases from the times they were announced.

Some of her other notable film credits include Buddha Gujjar (2002), Majajan (2006) and Bhai Log (2011), all of which were commercial successes. She was one of country’s leading film actresses during 1990s and early 2000s.

Saima’s film work spans many genres, including the supernatural film Naag Aur Nagin (2005) and the biographical film Salute (2016). She has also established a career in the Pakistani television industry.

In 2005, she married director Syed Noor with whom she has worked on a number of films.

Apart from films, she has also appeared in a number of television series, including Rang Laaga, Kaneez,Ye Mera Deewanapan Hai and Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai. In 2018, she was signed opposite Sarmad Khoosat in drama series Lamhay.

Deedar is the biggest name of Pakistani Punjabi theatre. She garnered fame as a dancer and also joined acting. She didn’t have the plans to join the showbiz industry but her elder sister Nargis took her to the media industry. Deedar left stage dancing at the peak of her career. She has two adorable sons.

Lately, Deedar made an appearance in the show Zabardast with Wasi Shah. In the interview she opened up about her regret and guilt in life.

Talking about her biggest regret, she said, “I was upset with my sister before her passing. I remember I wasn’t talking to her and then she passed away. Sometimes, I feel that I should have talked to her before her passing so that she could leave happily, this thought often pinches me. I didn’t even try to talk to her. Also, the same happened again when my cousins passed away. She was just 23, I was angry at her, she called me multiple times before her death but I didn’t receive her calls. There were things that she wanted to clear. Now, I regret that I should have listened to her. Here is the link to the video:

Talking about guilt, she said, “I sometimes think that if I weren’t an actress or a media person, I would have been in a better place. You get what is written for you. I thank Allah that I gained fame and money, but sometimes I feel that this is not where I truly belong. In our society, media professionals are not readily accepted; this is the reality. Media people are not embraced. I think I would love to be a housewife.”

8969 is an upcoming film written and directed by Azeem Sajjad and produced by AJ Khan. Azeem Sajjad is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has worked in many dramas mainly from PTV Peshawar center in 1990’s. Since 2000’s Azeem is also working as director/producer in dramas mainly for Pushto channel AVT Khyber. His most famous pushto drama is recently completed Za Pakhtoon Yum (I am Pakhtoon) on AVT Khyber.

Now Azeem Sajjad is working on his film named 8969. Though no details like cast, subjects are yet revealed by Azeem Sajjad, the first look poster is featuring Saba Qamar who will be seen in an item song Mastani in this film.

The film producer Hamid Salman will be making a film on Abdul Sattar Edhi in which Naseeruddin Shah will play Edhi’s Character. No doubt that Pakistan is facing a great loss after the death of the noble man “EDHI” and this initiative of making a film and paying attribute to the legend is worth appreciation.

Hamid Salman held a press conference at Lahore Press Club and announced that he will be making the film, ”I am Edhi”. By making the film Hamid Salman wants to thank and honour Edhi’s unlimited contribution towards humanity. Further Salman also shared that he plans to donate ten percent of the film’s revenue to Edhi Foundation.

As Naseeruddin Shah has given excellent performances previously in movies like Iqbal, Paar and Dirty Picture, it is expected he will do justice to Edhi’s role. This film will not be Shah’s first Pakistani film, he has previously done Khuda Kay Liye and Zinda Bhaag.

It seems that Pakistani cinema industry is all set to experiment and here comes the first ever superhero film, Ghazi. The film will be featuring Humayun Saeed, Sheheryar Munawar & Syra Shahroz. The movie is expected to release next year.
Both the male lead roles will be playing the character of super hero. Humayun’s is playing the character of Salar and Shahryar will be playing character of Zain and Syra will play the role of Zara.
The beautiful Syra will be making her debut in the Pakistani movie industry. Her cameo role in the hit movie Ho Mann Jahan left the fans to see more of her on silver screen.
The film is the directorial debut of Nadir Shah who is primarily an ad filmmaker. According to sources the movie revolves around the themes of love, loss, and patriotism. Other stars in the film include Adnan Jaffar who will be playing the role of a villan and Talat Hussain in a multi-dimensional role.
The good news is that forty percent of the shooting of the film is completed. The shooting has been done mainly in hill stations of Northern Pakistan. Regarding the film Sheryar said “The film does have a nationalistic sentiment, but in a whole new light. I believe it’s something along the lines of The Bourne Identity”.

There were reports of an upcoming film starring Sadia Khan and Meekal Zulfiqar to release in March 2017. The name of the film is finally revealed and that is ‘THE TRIAL’. The film is going to highlight the 1971 war. It is directed, produced and written by anchor-turned-filmmaker Kamran Shahid.

The cast of the film includes Sadia Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Shamoon Abbasi and Resham. Sadia Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar will be the protagonist while Shamoon Abbasi will be the antagonist. And we already know how good Shamoon is as a villain.

While talking to HIP regarding the upcoming venture, Shamoon Abbasi said:
“The genre of the movie is history, romance and action. I am playing the antagonist in the movie and I am loving my part already”.
