The equation their couple shared in Diyar e Dil was simply sweet. Their love story was covered in the second half of the drama because of which it was well received as before them, it was all about the bitter experiences their parents had shared. Although Faarah got married to Wali unexpectedly because her father decided to strengthen the relationships. Faarah despite having the option of backing out does not do it because she decides to give it a chance and later, she finds more than enough reasons to know that she took the right decision by respecting what her father chose for her. Wali was already in love with the idea of being married to Faarah because he valued his relationships and kept them close to his heart, therefore his patience and perseverance made Farah fall in love with him.

Saad and Dua’s love story is going to be remembered for a long long time. Those viewers who have been a fan of Korean drama Descendants of The Sun were in for a treat when they got to see a Pakistani version of that love story recreated in Ehd e Wafa. The man from the army and his lady love being a doctor. The relationship of Saad and Dua was refreshing and also perspective altering for the younger viewers of the drama because it showcased how important it was to have aspirations and goals, apart from getting married before establishing your careers and pursuing your education.

The coronavirus count in the country is drastically increasing. People are falling prey to the deadly virus left, right and center. And just like the general public, even our celebrities have been getting struck by COVID-19, rather seriously. Malala Yousafzai is the pride of Pakistan who has always made her country proud in the world.
From a young age, she was activist for female education and is known for fighting for human rights especially the education of women and children in her hometown, Swat Valley.
She was the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize and she became youngest Nobel Prize Laureate.

Malala received her further education in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.
The pride of Pakistan, Malala has finally graduated and she celebrated her big day with her family.
Malala couldn’t hold her excitement and she wrote on social media, “Hard to express my joy and gratitude right now as I completed my Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree at Oxford.”
“I don’t know what’s ahead. For now, it will be Netflix, reading and sleep,” she added.

Hira Mani shared her love story and how she got married with her husband, Mani. She was 19 and he was 20 when they tied the knot.
She shared, “Mani was my friend’s friend and they used to like each other. I used to make projects with her at her place and the whole night I was making project and she was talking to him.”
“I was engaged at that time and I was about to get married in six months. My fiance is a banker and sophisticated type completely out of my range. I worked all night and another day I asked my friend that with whom you were talking whole night? She said, ‘I was talking to Mani.'”
She further shared, “After listening to this, I was surprised. Next day I did a bad thing and I took Mani’s number from her phone. I called Mani and told my name, Maryam Khan. I said to him that I want to meet you and I like you. This is how I said to my friend I am getting married and please let me meet with Mani as a fan. As a fan, when I met Mani I wore my best shalwar kameez and made the best hairstyle to impress him. I did all this so that when Mani look at me and say ‘yes this is the girl I want to get married.'”
“Mani sent me his car to pick up and when I sat in the car I was like ‘I am finally sitting in his car’ and I couldn’t believe it,” Hira added.
Hira further added, “Finally on that day when I saw him everything stopped for a while and I realized Mani who did shows he used to be black and dirty and I loved him but at that time when he came in front of me, he looks even better. I was flat on him. I didn’t speak a word there because I knew Mani would recognize me and will know that I am talking to him as Maryam Khan.”
“Well, I came back home and called Mani from another number. Mani said to me that I met a girl and I didn’t like her at all but my friend liked her and now I am finding her address. I was scared and I said, ‘Mani it was me.’ Then I told Mani that I cheated on my fiance after that Mani went away for months.”
Talking about her realizations in life, she said, “After all this, I realized that it might be karma and then I told everything to my fiance about cheating but well he forgave me.”
Hira shared how Mani and she got married and revealed, “One day Mani called me and said ‘ I missed you for four months and I want to marry you’.”
“One day Mani came with his parents to ask for my hand and my parents agreed. That’s how we got married.”

Mahira Khan rejected all these things and said, “These are all made-up things. You don’t like me getting an award for acting which is a voting award where people vote. I stay very happy and put out this image which is very happy but it affects me.”
Sharing about her achievements she said, “Last year when there were huge hue and cry about winning an award I was so disheartened even though my fans who are like my backbone. I went into the Lux office and I said show me the audit they get from Price water house. Can you imagine all that? Even before this, I used to be like ‘are you sure about this’? ‘can you give it to someone else?'”
“Due to all this, I ended up not posting my award in a photograph to thank my fans. I never thanked my fans I just hid, I withdrew. I had to go for some awards outside Pakistan and I said ‘sorry I can’t come’. A few months later I realized what am I doing? This is ridiculous,” Khan added.
In the end, Mahira Khan said, “All of this criticism is background noise from me. I believe I have to be a bigger person. I have slipped in the past and I might slip again. It’s part of the journey.”
Ohkay so, this set of episodes of Dushman e Jaan was gripping & interesting. With 4 episodes per week, it is a relief that the pace of the story & drama is not a concern at the moment. The story is progressing & continues to develop with each passing episode. It is interesting to note how every set of episodes focus on one aspect of the story, which shows that a sweet time is being given to certain developments. So far, Dushman e Jaan has continued to impress & I am hoping the same for the remaining number of episodes as well.
Realizations
This time around, the entire focus shifted on Hatim, his realization & his redemption. This tragedy has turned out to be an eye-opener for him, which has convinced him to become a better version of himself. Hatim continues to blame himself because he is so guilt-stricken to even realize how much he has started to do for Ramsha’s family. However, the people around him, like his friend Uzair as well as his mother Fizza can clearly see the changes in him. This shift in behavior & attitude in general has been my favorite thing to notice in all of these characters.
Hatim slowly found his way into Ramsha’s house. He started with small steps but didn’t know that he will find Ramsha’s family surrounded with so many problems that he won’t be able to turn a blind eye & will continue to get involved. Hatim had spent enough time indulged in the misery & self-loathing but now, he saw it as an opportunity to do something that will at least be equivalent to paying the price for his grave mistake. The life is moving on, Rubab, Ehsan & Rameez are learning how life is going to be without Ramsha around but the way Hatim is trying his best to lift the burden off their shoulders eases their pain. Hatim got to see everything up close & also realized how tough Ramsha’s life was but with her gone, the brunt is being faced by her family members.
Hatim has taken the responsibility of Rameez’s medical treatment & as much as Rubab & Ehsan didn’t want to take any favors, Hatim persuaded them. This has also helped Hatim see himself in a different light. As much as Fizza or even Uzair tell him to not get involved, Hatim can not help because this way he finds repose & solace. This aspect has been highlighted in a beautiful manner that the moment you start doing something good, the moment you start helping others & just simply act kindly, it not only comforts the recipients of your kindness, but also heals you. This is exactly what has been happening with Hatim.
Another brilliant part of these episodes was the shift in Hatim & Fizza’s relationship. All these years, Hatim’s mother was too occupied but it is good to see how she has also realized her mistakes & continues to make things right. She has understood that her negligence was distressing for Hatim & now was the time when he needed her the most, this is why she made amends & saw her equation with her son change for the better. Hatim also acknowledges the efforts his mother has put in, this is why he has eased around her. They are more comfortable & cordial with each other, they now freely discuss their feelings & thoughts with one another – this change in their relationship was very nice to see.
As the days are passing by, Rubab gets to see the real faces of people. It didn’t take much time for her own relatives to shatter her faith in people & then the people she is coming across on a daily basis are making her realize how tough it must’ve been for Ramsha but she endured it all for the sake of her family. Rubab is trying her best to take charge of the situation but she is slowly learning & with Hatim around, she also feels a sense of relief. All the scenes of Rubab with her father & brother are so emotional. I also find myself tearing up the most during Ehsan’s scenes, seeing the pain & helplessness of a father is so heart-breaking, plus Irfan Khoosat has portrayed this character with such finesse & has given such a soulful performance that you just can not help but feel the sadness.
Hatim found himself smiling after a long time. He seems comfortable with the idea of facing the world & most importantly Ramsha’s family. Hatim has not completely healed but he is at least at that stage where he has come to terms with the fact that Ramsha did not die solely because of him. After a long time, Hatim consoled himself; this goes to show that all the things that he has done for Rameez, Rubab & Ehsan are helping him coming out of the guilt that he was feeling all along.
In the course of realization, Nighat isn’t far behind either. She too has figured out that Rukhsana is not her ideal bahu & more than that, she doesn’t even wish to be one. Rukhsana is not evil, it’s just that she has been independent all her life that she really has no idea how to function in an environment where she has to act according to others; especially her husband’s parents. Zaheer continues to be love-stricken but he is not the kind who will ever be decisive, he likes being led & now with Rukhsana having such a strong personality, he will never oppose her. The writer has also shed a light on the regressive thought process women usually have when it comes to their potential daughters in law. Nighat thinks Rubab is only worthy of her praise because she takes care of household chores, making it look like that’s the only good quality Rubab has!
Well Written & Directed Drama
These episodes of Dushman e Jaan were executed really well. The conversations seem heartfelt & some of the dialogues carry a lot of meaning. The process of seeing all the characters slowly coming to terms with the tragedy & then picking up the pieces was beautifully covered. The interactions of Hatim & Rubab are precise but are enough to show that they are definitely at the dawn of a relationship. Rubab has seen Hatim at his best but only he knows what took him to get here. The mother son relationship which is being fixed & nurtured is another aspect which I enjoyed watching. I love how Fizza puts her trust in her son & supports him because she understands this is exactly what he wants at this stage of his life.
Mohib Mirza should be very proud of himself for giving this level of performance in Dushman e Jaan. All the characteristics of Hatim have been elaborated with such clarity due to his strong performance in this drama. You actually can read what he is thinking, which for an actor is a success in itself.
Madiha Imam is a fine actor of Pakistani drama industry. She always gives every performance her heart & soul, which is why her characters always have a very real feel to them. I will however say that Madiha Imam is usually one of those very few actors who do not rely on a lot of makeup, but not sure who forced her to be all dolled up in this drama. Her kohl’ed eyes, blush-on, light contour & glossy lips end up being distracting in some of the very emotional scenes. She is naturally so pretty, so there was absolutely no need for the makeup artist to go heavy-handed with makeup & also because of her complexion, little makeup ends up looking a lot more. I wish the stylists had chosen a no-makeup look for her because she would’ve carried that effortlessly as well.
All the supporting actors have also played their part really well in Dushman e Jaan. Saba Hameed’s performance as well as the character she is playing is really good. The actor playing the role of Uzair has done a commendable job as well. The OST is really nice & all the background effects add more depth to the situation. With this episode, Pyar Ke Sadqay has officially entered a phase that is painful to watched and has done-to-death written all over it. Although everything makes sense, it is definitely upsetting watching a drama like Pyar Ke Sadqay banking solely on a man’s lack of good judgment just like so many other dramas. It happens a little too often in our dramas that the man, whether he is an intelligent businessman or someone as gullible as Abdullah falls for the trap set by the ‘other woman’ and her ‘accomplices’ of course! This drama had plenty of tracks that could have been used to take the story forward. Mahjabeen and Abdullah could have joined hands against Sarwar, Mansoora could have been the opposing party but unfortunately, the writer took the same old route. Abdullah has such a caring and sensitive side, watching him drop Mahjabeen like that was such a disappointment.
Abdullah and Mansoora Disappoint
A lot of people talk about the negative portrayal of women in dramas but I feel that the way men are portrayed in dramas is equally regressive. Abdullah was such an appealing grey character, his flaws made him human and his strengths made him likable. In the past whenever he was confused or in need Washma, Pho, and sometimes even his mother were there for him. This time around there was absolutely no one to guide him in the right direction, as a consequence Sarwar and Shanzay took over! This entire process of changing Abdullah’s mind took a lot of days yet no one intervened. Mansoora has clearly changed sides and given up on Mahjabeen completely which is yet another disappointing development. Basically, the writer did everything in her power to ensure that Shanzay and Sarwar will eventually be able to manipulate Abdullah. Abdullah remembered what Munshi sahab said to him about Mahjabeen being a liar but he completely forgot everything he had said to him in the recent past.
While it is understandable that there is so much pressure on Abdullah he chose to ‘get rid’ of the woman who was not blackmailing him since that was the easier choice. Shanzay’s suicide obviously played a major role in all this. Her desperation tonight was yet again terribly annoying. She is turning out to be a pest!! Her reason for forcing her way into Abdullah’s life is that he makes her happy! The loser makes her happy, we can only wonder how?! Abdullah has barely interacted with his mother in all these weeks and tonight Sarwar convinced Mansoora that Shanzay is a better ‘option’! So basically Mansoora’s scenes in the previous episode were pointless. She is once again doing exactly what Sarwar asks her to do. Mansoora’s character too had so much potential, the way she was willing to help Mahjabeen learn their ways and she had a caring side too, now it seems she is back to being the irresponsible person who takes orders from her good-for-nothing husband.
Abdullah’s weaknesses and his ‘majburis’ made sense but even then the writer ruined a beautiful character by turning him into yet another irresponsible and insensitive husband. Abdullah and Mahjabeen could have been a force to reckon with yet we have watched only a few scenes covering their happiness and companionship. The flashback scenes, Abdullah and Mahjabeen’s expressions and feeling after Abdullah dropped her off to her parent’s house showed that they were both in love with each other. Abdullah did something he did not want to do, he was also hurt and broken but right now I feel for Mahjabeen more than I do for Abdullah. I am waiting for Washma to knock some sense into him. Even though Abdullah’s behavior was extremely disappointing tonight but Bilal Abbas Khan’s performance was topnotch like every other week.
Washma and Pho
Washma and Pho are finally back in the picture, thank God for that!! Tonight’s episode focused on Washma personality for a change. Her conversation with Pho and reflected her opinion about love and men in general. These conversations also gave the viewers an insight into her dead father’s personality. Washma is finally thinking about getting married but she was clearly more concerned about what she witnessed on her way than anything else. Washma’s character continues to be the most refreshing element of Pyar Ke Sadqay. Srha Asghar and Sharmeen Ali have played their respective roles really well. Both of them are independent and intelligent women who always find an easy way out of the most difficult situations. Most importantly they look out for each other and the people they love. Such positive characters should definitely be given more screen time and shouldn’t be sidelined.
Poor Mahjabeen
I always saw Mahjabeen as a strong character even with all her shortcomings. She always managed to find a way out and no matter what happened she stayed positive and happy. For the first time tonight, it seemed like Mahjabeen was truly sad! This time around she couldn’t rescue herself or cheer herself up like she always does. I truly felt for her tonight and there were times when I thought that she deserved better than Abdullah!
She has literally begged everyone in the house to let her stay for all these weeks yet she was asked to leave! Mahjabeen’s mother yet again said something tonight which she shouldn’t have said in front of her. Whatever she said confirmed her fears and that was probably why her confidence was completely shaken when she was trying to convince Abdullah once again! Yumna Zaidi has been absolutely phenomenal as Mahjabeen, she translates Mahjabeen’s innocence exceptionally well on screen.
Final Remarks
Tonight’s episode was terribly upsetting, a drama such as this one shouldn’t have taken this turn. The preview of the next episode was even more upsetting. Hopefully, Washma will be able to turn things around since Abdullah does love Mahjabeen, he only needs someone to make him realize that. I am also hoping that we will get to watch Abdullah’s character development since it is much-needed. I am waiting to see how Sarwar is punished in the end and Mansoora should be shown setting a good example for her daughter!
