Besharam Last Episode Review – Definitely a Unique Love Story! <3

Ohkay so, tonight our favorite drama came to an end & I am really happy with the overall journey of Besharam. It is actually quite good to know that we still have such drama makers who believe in keeping things short & to the point. Isn’t is refreshing to see such an approach of the drama-makers who when feel that they have covered everything, they decide to end the drama at the right time despite all the ratings that they are getting? I will commend ARY Digital for changing how things used to work when it came to their dramas because the unnecessary dragging ruined a lot of good dramas so this thing has definitely improved & may I add, for the better definitely. This drama actually conveyed everything & I guess it was for the first time in years when I felt that the last episode was slow because they didn’t have so much left to be wrapped up & chipped in the very last episode. They gave this drama a complete ending by revolving the last episode around the main characters only, which is a bonus!

I actually awed at the conversation Sara had with Mishi. It was like they saved the best for the last because all the viewers were waiting to see Sara’s change of heart & she proved it that it was her children who taught her the importance of relationships & how one should value them. I loved how the writer subtly touched on the fact that the parents can be wrong too & when they realize it, they can be dignified enough to gracefully accept their mistakes. The writer also hinted a lot on the fact that the children do learn from their parents mistakes, that is why while Sara was the one who miserably failed at 3 marriages & some relationships, all her kids stayed true to their commitment to their partners. Even though Sofia & Wahab were poles apart, Sofia ended up accepting Wahab with all his flaws & shortcomings, which is actually a very sweet message that the writer put forward. Wahab definitely didn’t fit the bill of an ideal husband personality wise, but Sofia was the center of his universe & he loved his wife to bits, which is why Sofia also chose to stay with him. Similarly, despite knowing that Haider might not be able to afford the lifestyle that Mishi was used to, Mishi chose to stay with him to prove to herself, to her mother & the entire world that despite being a model, she can make her marriage work. Then came Manan, who without even bothering about his mother’s objection & disapproval, chose Humna & made sure to have everyone accept her. This was definitely the best message that the writer saved for the last which once again reinforced the importance of valuing your relationships, against all the odds. It also reinforced the fact that one should have a confidence in oneself because then everything starts falling into its right place!

Finally, Mishi got to share the moment with her mother that she waited for all her life. It was actually quite beautiful how this time around, it was Sara who was reminding Mishi about Haider & everything that he has done for her. Sara was right, she was a depressed soul because she chose such a fate for herself thinking that she will be able to survive but it was actually quite heart-warming to see her warning her daughter Mishi using her experiences as an example, to stop her from committing such a mistake that Sara herself committed when she was young & still hopeful that she will find that someone special. Sara could see that Haider was Mishi’s someone special & he was her Mr. Right, that is why she stopped Mishi from ruining something so beautiful!

Finally, Haider learned the truth about Asfand Sultan. Asfand himself had to admit that his optimism, his drive to bring a change didn’t do any good to him & his party, that is why he tweaked with his ideology a little & voila, there he was, a very successful & powerful politician. Asfand thought he will keep on manipulating Haider by using money as a bait but little did he know that the model he was looking down upon had completely won Haider over. Being a very judgmental outsider, Asfand actually underestimated the strength of Mishi & Haider’s relationship, but Haider didn’t take much time in letting Asfand know how wrong he was & what his wife meant to him. Haider finally left Asfand’s party with a promise that he won’t allow the people of his locality to commit a mistake that Haider did by trusting a corrupt politician like Asfand Sultan.

Mishi forcefully accepted the modelling offer & Haider decided to bring her back in his life. Mishi realized that she couldn’t go back to her old life & Haider realized that he was nothing without Mishi & they both had a happy ending!

Overall, the last episode was great but I wish that in stead of leaving it on the viewer’s imagination, they had covered a little bit about the professional lives of Mishi & Haider after they got back togther, because even though it is obvious that they both will make a living for themselves, it would’ve still been nice to see something at least. Also, I wish they had also showed that Wahab Sunyara realized his mistake & chose to return the shop to Haider & Sikandar because now he had no reason to hold a grudge against Haider. Well well well, I am actually falling short of the words of praises for the entire team of Besharam. When I decided to review it, I had no idea what I was getting into & I had no idea that it will end up becoming one of my favorite dramas of all times. Besharam has become one such drama that I actually find myself recommending to all those who ask me which drama they should watch next because it is that good. I will commend Sarwat Nazir for coming up with such a unique yet simple plot which she made sure to fill with positive messages without making it look preachy. In an era where we only get star-studded disasters with no story-line, zero entertainment value & such dramas which are aired only to generate the revenue, Besharam was a breath of fresh air, it actually was because of being absolutely simple yet so different.

The writer Sarwat Nazeer told everyone that showing a marital relationship in a drama does not mean that all the negatives of that relationship have to be highlighted. We saw a daughter in law (Mishi), a sister in law (Humna) & a mother in law (Khadija) who actually changed the perspective of the viewers & forced them to see things differently. Sarwat Nazeer also showed how being emotionally strong, level headed & independent doesn’t mean that one should not & can not budge or compromise for the sake of their spouses. The entire journey of Mishi & Haider revolved around trust, love & respect & most importantly, some space & time that they both gave each other to understand each other over the period of time & when they did, they couldn’t live without each other, which is actually a rarity in our dramas. How often do we get to see such husbands who trust their wives blindly while they themselves are learning more & more about them? How often do we get to see such wives who happily sacrifice everything for their husbands because they want to nurture & strengthen their relationship? It is actually quite amusing that we as viewers alwayssss were scared that something bad will happen. We as viewers were always waiting for a storm to take over Mishi & Haider’s lives because sadly, our drama writers have gotten us used to the idea of ‘sazishi’ & ‘negativity ridden’ dramas so much, due to which we were unable to grasp that we were actually getting to see a drama which had honest & straight forward characters & we were getting to see a drama where things got sorted before turning into ugly misunderstandings! Besharam always took the viewers by surprise because they got to see such characters who actually ‘talked’ to each other like normal people do, they actually got see a couple doing all those things that normal couples do, like discuss the happenings of an entire day, share a cup of coffee, motivate each other & most importantly, empower each other! I loved loved loved how the writer gave us such a beautiful & unique love story which will be remembered for a long long time.

I will thank the director for directing such a brilliant script beautifully. This drama didn’t have any loopholes in terms of direction & everything was conveyed brilliantly. The OST was beautiful & what made it even better was the appropriate usage of it to add more depth to the situations. All the actors, irrespective of the coverage their characters got did a wonderful wonderful job. I thank the writer for introducing us to Wahab Sunyara, where just his presence in the frame made things light-hearted. Malik Raza elevated the level of Wahab Sunyara & I am sure no one else could’ve portrayed this character with such flawlessness like he did & undoubtedly Malik Raza made Wahab Sunyara a memorable character too! I absolutely enjoyed watching Mehmood Akhtar on screen, he was brilliant as a selfish Uncle who also had some niceness in him & occasionally felt bad for his late brother’s family. Atiqa Odho, Fia, Sundus Tariq, Shahista Jabeen, Farah Nadeem, Ghana Ali, each & every actor did a wonderful job & gave their best shot. I must say, I love the fact that the writer didn’t make all the characters completely black & white because of which they seemed quite relateable & admirable as well. I will also thank the writer for the subtle humor which she added in the drama through the dialogues, which actually made Besharam a complete package which had some filminess, some drama, some family politics, some heart-warming moments, a lot of emotional moments & a comic relief as well. Now, talking about the Stars of the show; Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed, I am sure if it wasn’t for them, Mishi & Haider might not have made a place in our hearts. Both Saba & Zahid are the reason why the interest of the viewers never faltered in this drama & it was their acting & their beautiful chemistry on-screen which actually forced the viewers to tune to this drama every single week. It is amazing that the credit for the success of this drama goes to both Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed because it was their joint effort & both of them gave a 100% in their performances. Thank you so so so so much Team Besharam for giving us such a beautiful drama, sadly our Tuesdays won’t be the same anymore but all good things come to an end. Thank you so much once again.

I thank all my wonderful Readers ‘Jaan’ for keeping the discussions so happening, alive & fun under Besharam’s reviews. You guys made it worthwhile & enjoyable. Please share your final thoughts about the beautiful journey that we all experienced named Besharam!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Actors Who Need To Experiment With Their Looks

Pakistani drama industry is gifted with actors who are multi-talented. Some of these actors can easily be termed as gurus in their fields but not all of them are very eager to change their looks. Many of them have not even altered their hairstyles in years and even when they do experiment with their looks a little it is almost as if they are scared of going that extra mile to change their looks altogether. They look great nevertheless and some of them are very “well-preserved” but it will be refreshing to watch them experimenting with their looks every now and then if not very often since experimenting and being creative is an essential part of any field of art.

All of these actors are good-looking people who are exceptionally confident about their looks but the looks which they have sported for many years also prove that they would much rather play it safe than change their looks to give the characters they play a certain degree of uniqueness which can be identified with every character that they have played in their career. All these actors have signature looks that remain constant no matter what kind of a character they are playing because of which most of the times they end up looking like they walked from one shooting set to another and their characters can not be differentiated because of the monotony of their looks. There are many different ways in which an actor can alter their looks but so far these actors have not ventured into anything drastic which would have taken their fans by surprise.

Here is a list of those actors who definitely need to and should experiment with their looks:

Hamayun Saeed

Yes! Hamayun Saeed is most certainly one of those actors who are very “well-preserved” but he also falls in the category of those performers who have sported the same look for years. Hamayun Saeed made his comeback with drama serial Dil Lagi after a long time but even then his look in the play was pretty much the same as the one he sported many years back. Apart from the fact that Mohid was very “desi”, there was no drastic change in Hamayun Saeed’s look although this was the perfect time to come up with something brand new. In Bin Roye Hamayun Saeed has grown a beard but there is no drastic change in his hairstyle or overall look.

01-humayun-saeed

Imran Abbas

The only time Imran Abbas experimented with his looks was in drama serial Akbari Asghari, other than that he always has the same boyish looks, his hairstyle never changes, he always sports a stubble and his overall appearance including his makeup remains the same. It is impossible to tell which drama a screen shot has been taken from because his looks are all the same despite the nature of his characters, although in drama serial Mera Naam Yousuf Hai in particular and even in Khuda Aur Mohabbat there was definitely a lot of room for experimenting for him.

02-imran-abbas

Ayeza Khan

Ayeza Khan is definitely one of those actresses who need to change their overall look because ever since she has stepped into the industry, she has had the same hairstyle and her dressing is the same irrespective of the roles she plays. Another reason for this is that most often Ayeza Khan is seen playing similar roles. She has a signature look which suits the seedhi sadhi larki she is seen playing in dramas most of the times. The promos and BTS pictures of her upcoming play Shehrnaz suggest that Ayeza Khan might finally have decided to experiment with her looks, we are waiting to see what she has in store for her viewers.

03-ayeza-khan

Zahid Ahmed

Zahid Ahmed is a phenomenal actor but sadly, that can’t be said about his styling skills as he is stuck with a same look ever since he has stepped in the drama industry. Zahid Ahmed does change his clothing but his overall hair-styling & beard pretty much tells that while going to the shoot of another drama, he stopped on his way to home to change his clothes because other than that, you never see him in a different avatar. Zahid Ahmed is lucky to have great acting skills which pretty much keep the viewers attention hooked to him, but he most certainly needs a new stylist who can experiment with his looks & gives him a makeover.

04-zahid-ahmed

Noor Hassan

If you refer to the screenshots below, you will assume that these were taken from a single scene of a single drama but to surprise you all, that is not the case actually. If there was an award dedicated to looking consistently boring on-screen, Noor Hassan will bag it hands down because Noor Hassan is one such actor who takes pride in looking boringly monotonous on screen. The same hairstyle, same skin-fit T-shirts & same expressions, it looks like Noor Hassan is frozen in time & due to which the gel on his hair froze eternally too. For a little part in the drama serial Aabro, Noor Hassan looked different because that was the demand of his character where he had to showcase a time lapse & he actually pulled that look off gracefully, so I think Noor Hassan definitely needs to change his looks & experiment a lot more!

05-noor-hassan

Mikaal Zulfqar

Mikaal Zulfiqar has come a long way when it comes to acting, but sadly, he is still stuck in a rut when it comes to his overall styling. Mikaal Zulfiqar has been sporting he same look ever since he has stepped in the Pakistani drama industry. I don’t remember any such project in which Mikaal’s hair weren’t partitioned differently or his hair-color wasn’t brown. Mikaal Zulfiqar has one of those faces which can pretty much carry any sort of styling but Mikaal has become a little too comfortable with the idea of the same styling that he just doesn’t experiment at all which is definitely needed.

06-mikaal-zulfiqar

Sana Javed

Sana Javed has a very pretty face and she would look great in anything at all yet she also is one of those actresses who are stuck with the same look. Sana Javed does not even change the way she partitions her hair let alone experiment with something which will give each character she plays a different look. Sana Javed hasn’t played a lot of glamorous roles in her career. Her characters in Pyare Afzal, Goya, Mera Pehla Pyar, Ranjish Hi Sahi, Mana Ka Gharana, Zara Yaad Kar and almost all the dramas she has ever starred in had the exact same look which make her look monotonous & boring on screen.

07-sana-javed

Aijaz Aslam

I still remember Aijaz Aslam from his very first drama serial Kashkol and ever since then this man has not experimented with his look at all. He is also one of those many actors in this list who take good care of themselves and have managed to stay young but watching him in the same get up for the past so many years has been quite monotonous. It would be nice to see some variation in his look because till date he has only grown in & out of beard in all his dramas but his hairstyle always stays the same!

08-aijaz-aslam

Adnan Siddique

Adnan Siddique is one of those actors who has aged gracefully, but that does not mean that he has to stick to the silver locks all the time. Adnan Siddique ends up choosing those dramas in which he is paired opposite the actresses who’re half his age, so where his character requires him to look a little young, his monotonous look, hair-color & hairstyle screams the opposite. I actually can not remember a drama in which Adnan Siddique wowed the viewers with a change in his styling & appearance. I think it’s about time that Adnan Siddque does something especially with the hair because that will not only make him look vibrant & different but will make him look less lethargic too.

09-adnan-siddique

Hareem Farooq

Hareem Farooq has lost weight but she is not very open to any radical changes in her overall look. In all her drama serials whether it was Mausam, Mere Humdum Mere Dost and now Sanam, she has the same hairstyle and her make-up has always been unimpressive. Even in her brief appearance in the film Janaan, she sported the same look. There were a few pictures in which for a very brief period Hareem Farooq changed her hair color but later on she was seen in the same old look in drama serial Sanam.

Emaad Irfani

Being a model, it is definitely expected from Emaad Irfani to change his looks because he has seen himself in different get ups so he knows which looks he can sport but ever since he has started taking his acting career seriously, he has stopped experimenting with his looks completely. Emaad Irfani most certainly has become comfortable with a single look which includes uncombed curly messy hair & a neatly done stubble, which actually makes him look boring on screen. Emaad Irfani definitely is improving as an actor but at this stage I think to make his presence felt in the dramas, he should work harder on his looks which will actually earn him some attention of the viewers.

11-emaad-irfani

Mansha Pasha

Mansha Pasha experimented with her looks a little just once when she was playing Romaissa’s bubbly sister in drama serial Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai. Other than that even after being part of so many dramas and being attached to the entertainment industry for a few years now Mansha Pasha has retained the same looks in all her dramas which pretty much revolve around curled or straightened hair. Mansha Pasha definitely needs a makeover & she should change her makeup artist too. It would be nice to see her trying out different looks because most of the times it ends up looking like she came straight from her home to the shooting set & started acting, without paying much attention to how she will look on camera.

12-mansha-pasha

Farhan Saeed

Farhan Saeed has an undeniable screen presence which has won him many fans but does he experiment with his looks? Most certainly not! In drama serial Udaari, Farhan Saeed sported a pony tail for a short period of time but there was no major change in his look although there was a lot of room for experimentation. In all his other dramas too Farhan Saeed usually goes with the perfect hair and a very neat look overall irrespective of the role he is playing. This basically goes to show that he is also one of those actors who like to play it safe. The only changes one can see is in the height of the puff that he sports on his head, which actually makes it look like he is heavily inspired from the infamous Johnny Bravo!

13-farhan-saeed

Junaid Khan

I don’t remember a drama when the puff on Junaid’s head faltered giving him a different look. If there is one such actor who can give Noor Hassan a run for his money in terms of monotony, it is Junaid Khan. The most effort the viewers will see him make would be shaving his stubble off but other than that, everything stays the same starting from his puffy hair to the smile which he relies on a lot, even in the scenes where he is may be mourning a death of a character. It looks like Junaid Khan is quite satisfied with his boring look & loves flaunting his stiffness, be it in terms of his hairstyle, his expressions or his body language.

14-junaid-khan

So, with this, we conclude out list. Would you like to see all these actors mentioned above experimenting with their looks? Do you think it is important for an actor to alter their looks completely to give every character they play a unique outlook & make their performances a little more impactful? Do share your thoughts about the subject and don’t forget to add more names to the list.

Sanam Episode 08 Review – Teri Kasam Ye Hai Mann Mayal TWOOO!

Oh My God! This is unbelievable. Well actually, this instinctive reaction is coming after watching the precap of the next episode but I’ll come to that later. Anyways, basically this episode had nothing to offer & it was quite slow. I am kind of annoyed at the pace of the drama & this is not a good sign because we are just in the initial stages of the drama & seems like the director has already started taking things slow to test the remaining amount of the patience the viewers had in them after watching Mann Mayal. I seriously think that HUM TV should have thought things through & they should have given the viewers a chance to recover from one apocalypse that they just experienced by not airing Sanam right after Manna Mayal ended because with each passing episode, this is turning out to be Mann Mayal 2! Literally, showing one apocalypse after another is never a good idea & that is the reason why the viewers are not feeling this drama at all.

Well, honestly speaking, I was surprised to see Aan spending more time with Harib even after she saw how that created an issue for Harib previously. Aan was shown to be quite independent & she was doing this welfare work on her own, especially for herself but now it seems that she can’t even go to see those kids herself without tagging Harib along. Anyways, looks like Shabnam took my advice seriously & now she has actually started her catering business because like Aan announced, now she would also be delivering dinner because her delivery service is not confined to the breakfast only. Aan also declared sincerely that she will continue to do so till Harib gets married & his wife takes care of his taste buds but I was wondering, what if Harib once again gets married to a girl like Aila who doesn’t know how to cook, will Aan & Shabnam still do catering for him? I am sure they would since they are so faarigh & have nothing else to do! I am not sure if Aan is simple-minded or a bit too conniving where she is conveniently ignoring the fact that spending time with Harib & literally going in & out of his place can cause a dent on her image? I am sure Shabnam tells Aan to deliver the food to Harib only, which doesn’t meant that she has to sit with him, monitor if he is eating his food properly, pour a glass of water every time his chokes & return after witnessing the sight of last morsel making it to Harib’s mouth!?!?! Seriously gurllll, find yourself some activity & oh, is it just me or someone else also rolled their eyes when Aan was being ‘chummy’ with Shehroz…!!! *eye rolls*

So, Aila’s parents found her & they took her with them. It was good that Aila’s step-father gave her a piece of his mind but I am sure Aila’s mother Aisha would never allow her daughter to get better by facing the reality that she has some mental issues as Aisha herself is in denial. That thing was sorted & seems like Shehroz had an ‘insaniyat’ pang once again, where he started whining about how he was of no use & couldn’t save Aila & Harib’s marriage, like seriously, ye sab Aila ko taarhnay se pehle sochna tha na, huh! It is actually quite amusing how the writer is making sure that we all do not forget about the profound words that were uttered by Sallahuddin’s mother which were ‘in logon ka koi deen emaan hai bhi ya nahi’?

Well, it literally took 5 seconds for me to realize that Fatima is going to test my patience even more & I literally hate when the kids in our dramas are given more coverage than they require aur upper se phir Masha Allah aisay batameez bachay hon to phir to Allah hi Hafiz hain. We get it Fatima you’re from London, but ye Pakistan hai, kukroon kurroon, wake upppp!!!!!! Seriously, it looks like the writer is always going to keep Harib surrounded by people with mental issues, may be this is the writer’s way of avenging the fun viewers made of her husband’s work in Mann Mayal, so she decided to throw one psychopath after another our way to turn us viewers into a psychopath too. Just when Aila’s character took a backseat, the writer brought forward 2 such characters where the mother has an anxiety (love this fancy shancy word) & the kid that is plainly & scaringly annoying!

I think the writer has tried to add in a lot of scenarios to add more content in this otherwise khalam khali drama but sadly those situations are either so bizarre or so done & dusted that they are just coming across as fillers & bad ones at that. Sara is being given so much of coverage but you know what, her entire story didn’t stir any sympathy because they introduced her as someone who walked over bechara Harib for the sake of money. Very conveniently Sara blamed her parents for getting her married to a Richie Rich but she can not say that now as even she seemed a little too concerned about the utility bills she’d had to stay worried about if she got married to Harib. Like they say ‘neeyat saaf, to manzil asaan’, so since Sara’s neeyat wasn’t saaf, she & even her parents used the Richie Rich for his money, so now she can not use it against him to turn him into a villain in front of Harib that too when she is living in an apartment that he bought for her! If Sara’s husband is the culprit, so is Sara for being attracted towards him because of his wealth. So, just like Sara’s scenario is bizarre, the scenario of Shabnam’s in laws is so typical & pathetic that it is not even funny because we have seen such relatives in our dramas a million times who choose to stay associated with someone because of their wealth. It is so obvious that Shama is interested in Aan because she being the only child will be entitled to everything that her parents ever had & owned, so what’s so new in here that the writer ‘assumed’ that we will like or enjoy watching?

Well well well, I think if they had shown that Sara moved with her Daadi Amman to this apartment, that would’ve made far more sense than showing that she moved with her child because Fatima surely is a Daadi Amman in a small packaging. It was actually so annoying to see her ‘doubting’ her mother’s intentions because she spotted her sitting with a guy & she also used it to threaten her mother, like seriously, is she a kid or an agony aunt? What’s even funnier was that Sara called Harib to help her out in curbing the doubts in Fatima’s mind, as if Harib is Fatima’s father & he knows how to handle Fatima? Like seriously!?!?!?! They all seem so weirdly lifeless that it is not even funny because yes, the thing that left me shocked was seeing Harib seeking Aan’s help by asking her to act like Harib’s girlfriend to tame a what, 7 year old? Like seriously!?!?! Also, like I said, the writer has made sure that Harib will be surrounded by at least one pagal at a time, so now Sara has filled in that void that was created by Aila’s absence & now she will start behaving like a possessive psychotic girlfriend who would give Harib a hard time every time she will see him with Aan. Oh so-called writer jee, hamain pata hai appne Harib aur Aan ko milana hai to 10th episode mai hi ye miracle dikha dain, ye paglon ki toli dikhana zaroori nahi hai baar baar!!! Well in the initial part of the episode, Harib did say that he wanted to help Aila out with her mental issues, so now looks like the writer took care of that khuwaab too because now Harib will be taming a 7 year old & will be tolerating her tantrums haha!

I will say that I enjoyed the entire rishta scene where Aan shooed Rehan; the Woodpecker by telling him about her family’s background. Shabnam’s reaction was funny & I liked the fact that Aan was being honest. Princess Harib is depending on Prince Aan (pun intended) a lot more than he realizes but I found it good that Aan still stays unaffected by everything that is happening in Harib’s life, like she seemed pretty ohkay with the fact that Harib was having a conversation with Sara, similarly, she is not making excuses to not get married in a hope that may be Harib will propose her, just a few things that I liked about Aan’s character so yep!

Overall, this episode was slow, boring & cringe-worthy. It is so obvious that our patience is going to be tested with each & every episode. I am actually still laughing at an idea that Princess Harib & Prince Aan will pose to be a couple in front of a 7 year old & then they will continue with this act as they wouldn’t want to upset this extra-small sized Daadi Amman, like seriously!!! I think ‘like seriously’ is going to be my go-to expression while reviewing Sanam because I am not sure how many times Team Sanam will make me say that. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this khofnaak episode of Sanam that reminded me of the scary Mann Mayal!

Thora Sa Aasman Episode 15 16 17 Review – Enemy Acting Like a Savior!

0

Ohkay so, I must say, the story of Thora Sa Aasman has become quite interesting at this stage & I really like how the director is taking things forward. This drama is completely different to what the viewers are being offered to watch lately & that’s what makes it even better because it is based on the harsh realities of life & the adversities people go through. What I love the most about this drama is that it is showing us how people in facing the adversity react & how conninvingly, those who create these adversities for people pose to be their saviors!

Ambar & Muneeza are facing the harsh realities of life. After parting from Mansoor, both Ambar & Muneeza have come out of their bubble & have realized that the world out there & the people in it are far more ruthless than they could have ever imagined. Mansoor actually treated them as his universe & sadly, him not being a part of their lives anymore has created so many problems for both of them. Muneeza actually thought that her brother & his wife will support her & her daughters financially but things were completely different to what she imagined.

Mansoor has not realized that he is committing one mistake after another. First mistake was getting married to Rakshi, second mistake was divorcing Muneeza, third mistake was parting ways from his brother Maqsood, fourth mistake was taking a complete ownership of the business, fifth mistake was calling the engagement of his daughters off & the final mistake that he is committing is handing over the chunk of his wealth to Rakshi. Mansoor is someone who gets easily manipulated & he is not realizing how Rakshi & Haroon Kamal are making the most of it. Mansoor is actually just a pawn but the masterminds are Haroon & Rakshi. In fact Rakshi is also doing what Haroon tells her to do but it is Haroon who is the actual puppeteer here.

It is actually quite mind boggling how far a man like Haroon Kamal can go to get what he likes. He has literally ruined everything in Ambar’s life to get closer to her & sadly his plan is working. Just because Haroon knew that he had no chance of winning Ambar over, he literally turned her world upside down & is now posing to be their well-wisher as he knows they are emotionally unstable, so they need someone to rely on & Haroon is making the most of the situation. It is actually quite sad that Ambar is incapable of reading people’s minds. Ambar committed a mistake by trusting Rakshi & now she is once again committing a mistake by trusting Haroon Kamal.

I must say I actually loved seeing Safia coming to the forefront & trying to tie the loose ends together. Safia chose to stay with her father initially as she knew that way she would be able to help her mother & her sister. Safia is far more analytical & practical than the rest of her family members, which is commendable. Roshaan is on a trip of his own where he is blaming Ambar for everything without even realizing that there is no reason to crib about something that has happened as he can’t undo that but then it is understandable because he is young & immature. It is actually quite shocking that even Muneeza is depending on Haroon Kamal, obviously because even she in her wildest dreams never imagined that she’ll live to see a day like this. Ambar is not that smart but Safia on the other hand is not only intelligent, but she is far more brave than anyone around her realized. Safia chose to end her engagement with Osama on her own terms because she knew that her relationship with him will demand a lot of sacrifices so she knew that at this point in her life, her family was her priority & she needed to keep her mind free from any other issues. I actually liked that Osama was ready to take a stand for Safia & he almost convinced his parents for his & Safia’s marriage but then even he started demanding a bit too much from what Safia could offer at this stage in her life, therefore it resulted in the end of their engagement too. I love how Safia can even see through Haroon Kamal’s intentions, it’s like she knows that a man can Haroon Kamal can never ever offer any favor to anyone without expecting anything in return. Muneeza & Ambar chose not to pay heed to what Safia was saying but the time will tell!

Where Nayab has started showing a lot of interest in Samar, Shahista Kamal has also started taking a lot of interest in Shaheer’s life after finding out that he is her son, the one they estranged the day he was born. Does Shahista actually think that by giving a few monetary favors to Shaheer & by hovering around him posing to be his well-wisher would justify her & her husband’s selfishness that they displayed years ago when he was born? Shahista should realize that by doing all these things, she is only making things difficult for Shaheer & also for herself because the day Shaheer will find out that she happens to be his mother, it also would be the day when Shaheer will ask her all those questions that she might not have an answer for. There is absolutely nothing at this stage that Shahista can do, which will justify her past mistake. It was actually quite shocking to see how Haroon reacted at the mention of Shaheer, it is unbelievable that being a father, Haroon Kamal is not concerned about him at all!

It was interesting how Shahista told Haroon that their son Asad wanted to get married to Ambar. Shahista herself is aware of Haroon’s nature & his evil intentions as he has been insincere to her in the past, that is why the moment Asad told her that he spotted his father with Ambar, Shahista knew that he was upto something & he wasn’t going out of the way for no reason.

Zarka came into the picture too & seems like even she has started making enough money once again to help Fatima raise Samar & Sani. It seems that even Zarka has kept a close eye on Fatima & her family because she knows that her sister Rabeea handed her children to Fatima. Things are actually slipping away from Fatima’s hands because sadly, one day she will have to give answers to all these questions that her children will ask about their existence & their biological parents.

Finally, Haroon Kamal said it. He confessed his feelings to Ambar but what’s left to see is that will Ambar become another Rakshi or she will be respectful enough to part ways with him by recognizing his evil intentions? Ambar should understand that she is the reason why her entire family is suffering so badly & is going through all the hardships so she should not act selfishly by ignoring Safia’s suggestions & opinions because even without interacting with Haroon Kamal, Safia knew that he was definitely upto something & his confession proved it. I hope it serves as an eye opener to Ambar & she also realizes that Safia called her engagement off with Osama for her & Muneeza’s sake. It seems like Mansoor has married another Muneeza, the woman he was running away from. Rakshi knows that she has Mansoor wrapped around her finger that is why she is putting forth one demand after another & looks like Mansoor is at the verge of losing everything, his wealth & his mind too!

Overall, these three episodes were done really really well. I am glad that the channel decided to air Thora Sa Aasman twice a week because it changes the pace of the drama & gives us a lot more to watch & discuss. I must say, so far all the actors have done a good job but the one who is shining the most is the actor playing the role of Shaheer, that actor has without a doubt has owned the character of Shaheer & portrayed it perfectly. I am not sure why we didn’t get to see this promising young actor in more dramas because he surely is a very fine actor. The direction of the drama is great, I love the usage of the OST at the right time & the right moment. I really like how the writer has shown us different reactions of different people when adversity hits them. I wish they had hired someone else as Safia because she has an important role to play & not only her character, but the acting needed to make a mark too but sadly, where the character is so strong, the acting is not. The rest is all good. Please share your thoughts about these 3 episodes of Thora Sa Aasman.

Kitni Girhein Baaki Hein Episode 1 Review – Truth Hurts!

Writer: Amber Shamshad
Director: Angeline Malik
Producer: Angeline Malik
Schedule: Every Sunday 9:10 PM on HUM TV

Kitni Girhein Baaki Hein was one of my favorite series because it was almost always quite enticing and unpredictable. The stories in the last season were bold; it is always great to see something on television which dares to be different and is captivating at the same time. Also, a good series gives the viewers an opportunity to watch the stars we see on screen very often in serials in different avatars. They get to make their presence felt even more because there is only one episode in which the whole story is presented to the viewers. Although the promos of this latest season focused more on the artists involved in this series than anything else yet I found myself eagerly looking forward to this first episode.

The first episode of Kitni Girhein Baaki Hei lived upto its tradition of being bold and crisp. It was directed skillfully and all the actors involved played their roles well. The story however wasn’t as new as one would have hoped for it to be. Also, most importantly the shock value of the final ending was next to zero because the ending was revealed in the promos, which in my opinion was not a very wise move!! The promo of this first episode showed all the important events and the final ending as well therefore I found myself waiting for what was about to happen knowing exactly what it would be instead of wondering what was going to happen next.

fotorcreated

Despite of being extremely predictable, thanks to the promo, all the characters made their presence felt. This was the story of Rozee (Ushna Shah) just as much as it was that of Saba (Hira Mani). Saba’s obsession with cleanliness and her hatred for her new massi was shown clearly in all the scenes right from the outset. Rozee’s rejection of the advances from the driver but acceptance of Kamran’s (Hassan Ahmed) flirtation, said a great deal about her character. Men are most often shown in a negative light in this series and women are the ones who are the main victims, this episode also showed how a husband who seemingly loved his wife so much, goes behind her back and cheats on her in the worst way possible.

Hira Mani, Hassan Ahmed and Ushna Shah stole the show with their flawless performances. Ushna Shah in particular was very convincing as Rozee. The actress who played Saba’s friend however did not quite fit in because someone with such high standards wouldn’t have a friend like that! I hate to nitpick but Hira Mani’s dirty feet in the opening scene, weren’t very aesthetically pleasing even if she was running around without any shoes on! I hope that in the upcoming episodes the viewers will also get to see some strong women who are not just victims but fighters. This episode did not have a subtitle, it would be nice to see subtitles of each episode in the beginning. Kitni Girhein Baaki Hai always manages to “disturb” its viewers in some way because of the kind of truths which are showed in it daringly and this episode definitely fit the bill.

How many of you watched this first episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Bin Roye Episodes 4 & 5 Review – Reality Check!

In these two episodes Saman got more settled in the house mainly due to the love given to her by Saba but once she was well settled it seemed like she was the one running the show while Saba found it impossible to cope with so many new changes which she did not anticipate. Saba noticed Saman and Irtiza’s growing closeness and her reaction was shown realistically. Although the timing of the realization and the overall impact such a major development should have had was derailed in episode 4 in particular, just like every other big development in Bin Roye so far, but Saba’s reaction was definitely in line with her character. She did not confront Saman but she decided to ignore her in order to make her feel just as alienated as Saman made her feel because of her growing relationship with Irtiza. Irtiza’s character is that of a sweet, gentle man who is completely blown away by Saman. The attraction he feels towards Saman is difficult to relate to because Saman’s character isn’t very appealing, it also has done-to-death written all over it. She is the older, wiser sister, who can do no wrong. Also, Hamayun Saeed’s manly demeanor which is a part of his overall personality does not really fit in the present scenario. The fact that he played an exceptionally strong role very recently in drama serial Dillagi also does not help. Irtiza is too plain and he is only attractive because two women find him attractive otherwise his character does not have a lot to offer.

Saba’s character is exactly the way it was so many years back when she was a child, which means there has been absolutely no character development. She still cried when Irtiza lost the match, although the reason was different this time but the fact that she could not hide her feelings from everyone else around her went to show that although she claimed to be mature but she was still like that 10 year old girl who had very little control over her feelings. The scenes in episode 4 in which dadi and Saba’s mother talk about Saman and later on criticize Saba for her bad habits was a scene which showed Saba’s general disgust with Saman being the perfect child – a detail which gave this relationship a very typical feel. Also, in tonight’s episode Saba’s conversation with dadi gave the same impression. The only difference here is that while Saman is the perfect sister, Saba is not being shown as an evil character.

These two episodes further showed that Saba’s life literally revolved around Irtiza. In all these years she never really got used to having Irtiza around but still having him around her meant something special. He is all she talks about and the only person she wants to spend her time with. Mahira Khan wore minimum make-up in these two episodes and there was very little styling too. Just like most of the roles Mahira Khan plays she is really into her character but her character is one-dimensional. Probably to show the contrast between Saman and Saba even more Armeena Rana Khan’s styling was much more trim and proper. Armeena Rana Khan’s dialogue delivery and overall performance is making it very difficult to relate to Saman’s character.

br

Safir’s (Junaid Khan) character was also introduced in these episodes. He is his mother’s only son who works in the US and is romantically involved with a Hindu girl (Shazia Naz), someone he can probably never get married to but they share an apartment! Safir’s conversation with his girlfriend pretty much summed up why he will end up bowing to his mother’s wishes at some point.

Dadi talked about Irtiza’s wedding in the 2nd episode, Saba told her about her feelings for Irtiza at that time but since then there has been absolutely no mention of what Saba said. Dadi and Saba’s relationship had tons of potential which has not been utilized to the maximum. These 5 episodes have proved one thing, Bin Roye is going to be a very typical story and none of the twists will have the shock value which are needed to make the viewers sit at the edge of their seats. Bin Roye keeps you interested, there are moments which are emotional but it does not blow you away. The good thing about this play is that there are no heroes or villains in this story but just normal everyday people who are caught up in situations beyond their control which will determine the course of their relationships and their lives. The things which keeps it from being a complete winner is that all these people are a little too plain at times and the drama does not have a lot of extraordinary performances to its credit.

Yasmin’s (the maid) rude behaviour with Saba in episode 4 stood out like a sore thumb! I could not understand the reason behind it. Saba might be immature but she is very well mannered, I couldn’t understand why Yasmin was even acting that way. This was a small scene but one which made you wonder why it was there! Bin Roye has two iconic directors behind it therefore watching a less than average performance by Armeena Rana Khan and scenes which are supposed to be emotionally charged but don’t have enough impact or incidents which are not followed through has been an anticlimax, to say the least. Mahira Khan’s expressions when Irtiza shares with Saba that he was in love and later on the reaction when she heard Irtiza proposing to Saman did not make a lot of sense. How could she not know that he was talking about Saman and not her? Having said that, I have to say that Irtiza is at his best when he is with Saba. Hamayun Saeed and Mahira Khan’s chemistry with each other is definitely making their scenes work. Also, although Saba’s love is immature but you can’t help but relate to her feelings. In tonight’s episode especially watching Saba’s hopes being dashed to the ground was definitely emotional. The picture quality of the play was perfect in the first episode but after that there have been quite a few scenes in which neither the picture quality nor the make-up of many of the actors has been up to the mark. Also, there were a few scenes in which the viewers were shown one night after another and the days were completely missed. The family as a whole has not been shown together in any of the scenes, even tonight in the engagement scene Javed Sheikh was missing.

Mahira Khan was the star of the show tonight without a doubt. Even though the directors and the people behind the camera failed to do justice to her but Saba’s character and her track is the only reason why I will be tuning into Bin Roye next week. The latest developments reminded me of Alvida yet again. I haven’t read the novel but I have seen Alvida and therefore it is very easy to predict what is going to happen next.

Dukh Sukh- Episode 2 Aap Ki Ulfat

The second episode in the series was titled “Aap Ki Ulfat” was written by Atiya Dawood and directed by Sakina Sammo. Ulfat Shireen (Naveen Waqar) is a famous poet who often makes public appearances in Pakistan and internationally. She is a confident and beautiful woman who is content with her life while being well grounded. Her mother is eager to have her married off and Ulfat agrees upon one condition- she doesn’t want to be dolled up and objectified and instead, tells her mother that she would prefer to meet her potential suitor at a restaurant and only once she feels comfortable, will she give the go ahead.

She meets Zain ( Ali Safina) and they both seem to hit it off. Even though they are polar opposites, Ulfat seems convinced they are compatible. They decide to get married and on their wedding night, she feels awkward when Zain questions whether she had any previous relationships. Zain continues pressing her about her past every now and then and is extremely insecure. Zain’s temperament switches back and forth which makes her struggle with understanding him. While dining at a restaurant, Umair Alam approaches Ulfat and expresses how much he admires her. Zain starts getting worked up and assumes Ulfat is having an affair.

Zain starts probing into her poetry and thinks everything she writes is about him and how miserable she is after marriage. Ulfat tries to explain that her writing is purely fictional and it’s got nothing to do with her reality but Zain continues thinking otherwise. He taunts her and harasses her over her Facebook page- she denies sharing anything but he’s already convinced she’s cheating him. Their marriage continues to suffer until such time that Ulfat has had enough and she walk out.

Ulfat’s mother tries to reason with her but Ulfat narrates that no matter what she does, Zain continues being suspicious of her and she can’t put up anymore. In the end, Zain happens to find Umair Alam showering the same attention to another poet and realizes how wrong he was. Umair is an obsessive fan who religiously stalks his favourite authors and his pattern of behaviour has nothing to do with Ulfat. Zain regrets his irrational mistreatment but it’s far too late as Ulfat has already filed for divorce.

As much as I liked the idea of single episode stories, I found this one lacking substance. The narrative wasn’t gripping, the editing was choppy and the direction was mediocre. I also felt the production values weren’t top notch. Naveen Waqar should really experiment with roles and her styling. There’s nothing new about her character. Ali Safina seemed fine in some parts but overall didn’t exactly deliver a strong performance. The guy playing Umair Alam looked like a crazy stalker so they definitely cast him well.

Let’s see how the next episode shapes up. What did you make of this one?

Laaj – Episode 13 Review – Qabool Hai!

0

So I have been watching Laaj thinking that while the story is not extraordinary, it is not too bad either. But I am getting a little fed up with these promos for the next episode which give one idea and when the episode is aired it is all a figment of Zainab’s imagination. While this may work a few times, I am sure if done too many times then the viewers will begin to lose interest.

When Reshma brings the bottle of poison to Zainab and drinks it and collapses, I was a bit taken aback for I had seen the promo last week and Zainab had the scene with Jahanzeb when she tells him she can not live without him and then collapses in his arms. Zainab has told him that she will wait for him till her last breath and beseeches him to somehow stop the wedding. He tells her nothing can be done and she should accept this as her fate and move on otherwise it will become hard to live under the same roof. Seems like Zainab daydreams a lot – that I had established in the earlier episodes. Now, given the neend ki dawa (which was in the bottle that apparently contained poison), she is dreaming again! Anyhow, dream is all she can do for the nikkah between her and Shahzeb takes place. Mubarak – not!

pic1

This has to be the first time I have seen a bride do what Zainab did on her wedding night and change into plainer clothes than she wears even on a normal day! Shahzeb is still dolled up and so she presents him with his moo dikhayi gift haha, and gives him a free ticket to remain in touch with and continue his relationship with Alisha. Wah! Even though I had found Zainab’s one sided love a bit dramatic, to put it mildly, I could not help being amazed how she showed up with a cup of tea in Jahanzeb’s room and claimed nothing had changed. Yes, she may still love him and may not be happy about the nikkah but well she is married now and to be openly saying she will love Jahanzeb and profess her love to him time and again – did not still well with me at all, I am sorry to say.

Which brings me to a thought that has been niggling my mind. The whole set with the diyas near the pool and the dramatic feature image of the woman in white with the dupatta covering her face and then now this theme – of being married but still professing her love to another man and allowing her husband to continue his own romance brings on a whole Indian movie touch to it. I had felt the treatment of this drama was different and I had put it down to the colourful and aesthetically pleasant set but now I hope this train of thought of living and let live while remaining married does not go down the road it seems to have. While I feel Jahanzeb is a bit of a coward, although I agree that living in that setup neither he nor Zainab could muster the courage to speak up in front of Bari Sb I still respect that he understands things can not be as they were earlier and presses upon Zainab to make peace with that too.

pic2

Dilawar and Sikander are still at loggerheads with each other where Sikander feels Dilawar is being a fool and that ‘Bari Sb ki fitrat mein hai dassna, dass kay he rahay gi’. Sikander knows Bari Sb well and it appears he is not wrong in his judgement of her either for that is her plan to make sure Dilawar’s grandchild does not make an entry into this world. The promo of next week’s episode promises to be a happening one – if none of it is merely a dream, that is! While Zainab’s character is annoying me a little now, I felt Zarnish Khan acted really well when I could feel her helplessness throughout the wedding and her frustration when she woke and realized she had not died.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat S02E01 Review – & The Journey Begins!

Ohkay so, the production of Babar Javed, script based on the novel written by Hashim Nadeem & the direction of Syed Ali Raza; Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 02 hit our TV screens tonight. I must say, I am really glad with the treatment that they have given to the story in this season of Khuda Aur Mohabbat because I feel things are a lot more details & the scenarios are being established properly in comparison to the previous season. However, I will say that those who haven’t watched the first season are in a plus because it seems that the entire story is going to be repeated in this season in order to give it & the character of Hammad a proper closure. I just binge-watched the first season & even though I loved it, I still feel that if I had a slightest idea about the plot of the season 02, I would never have watched it to enjoy this ride even more, but nonetheless, I am definitely looking forward to this journey & I will say, that this version does seem to be bigger & better, so it’s a success already. So, yes, my suggestion to those viewers/readers who are planning to watch season 01 would be that they should skip it & enjoy season 02 in stead as they wouldn’t miss a thing!

The drama begins with a narration where the war between love & the Gods of this world is being discussed. The narrator does have a point, that The One who created Love can never oppose it, but it is the self-proclaimed Gods of this world who deem it as their duty to go against it & deprive people of this emotion.

We are introduced to a care-free guy & his couple of friends having the time of their lives. They’re the university students & seem to have no worry in their lives because the life has not thrown a curve-ball on them, yet! Suddenly, we see a shift in the scenario & get introduced to a Muaddin & his family in the following scenes. This happens to be the household of Molvi Aleemuddin (Firdous Jamal), whose family consists of his wife Rasheeda & two daughters Imaan (Sadia Khan) & Haya. We get an insight into their family set up & their lifestyle which is very humble & very simple. It is quite evident that Molvi Aleemuddin has kept his family closer to the religion & has shaped the characters of his family members that way. In the following scene, we get an insight into an entire different world, which happens to be a family of the retired commissioner Amjad Raza (Usman Peerzada) & his Wife (Saba Faisal). Amjad Raza has three sons Sajjad, Hammad (Imran Abbas) & Emaad. Sajjad is married to Abrina & has a son Sunny. Emaad is preparing to go abroad for further studies & it seems that the second son Maddy is already in abroad pursing his education. After retiring as a commissioner, Amjad Raza has stepped into politics because according to him, power means everything & he would go to any lengths to further expand the list of his achievements!

collage-01

Hammad is having the time of his life in Houston & it seems that he is not even focused much on his education & is not worried about his future because he is well aware of the social class that he belongs to. Maddy knows that his father has earned & achieved a lot in his life & that is why he acts like a typical spoiled brat who has no sense of responsibility. Maddy’s childhood friend Kami has also gone to USA with him & it seems that Maddy is Kami’s safety net!

collage-02

Shakir happens to be Amjad Raza’s driver & he also looks after the Purani Haveli that Amjad Raza owns. Shakir has been working for this family since the time Amjad’s father was alive & Amjad himself used to study abroad, that is the reason why Amjad’s entire family trusts Shakir & depends on him. Shakir lives in one of the quarters of the Purani Haveli but before moving to the quarters, he was a neighbor of Molvi Aleemuddin, that is why their families are on very good terms with each other & Shakir’s daughter Nighat seems to be Imaan’s best friend as well.

collage-03

As the story unfolded, we got to know how Rasheeda was worried about the household expenses because Molvi Aleemuddin taught Holy Qur’an to his students free of cost, but his wife felt that he was being a little too generous. That is when Shakir’s wife tells Rasheeda that Amjad’s grandson Sunny wants to learn Holy Qur’an as well, so she should convince Molvi Aleemuddin to take the job because it will make things easier for them financially. Shakir also requests Molvi Aleemuddin to teach Sunny as he actually wants to help him & eventually convinces him. We got to see that Molvi Aleemuddin is a very admirable character but he is capable of getting a little stern when things don’t go his way. Molvi Aleemuddin shares a very strong & beautiful bond with his eldest daughter Imaan, I loved how they showed that both Imaan & her father have long discussions & conversations about different matters revolving around religion. It also seems that Aleemuddin has an attachment with Imaan on another level, that is why he takes utmost care of her needs & necessities!

It seems that Aleemuddin’s nephew Abdullah (Humayun Ashraf) is coming to stay with him for the sake of his education too & his mother is interested in getting Abdullah married to Imaan. Abdullah also seems interested in Imaan & that is why he seemed happy with his move where he will get to be around Aleemuddin’s family, especially Imaan!

Overall, the first episode introduced all the characters in detail & gave us an insight into their lives appropriately. I must say I am actually quite glad that they decided to make things a lot more elaborate, because it was necessary for all the viewers to have a fresh start & fall in love with the beautiful characters once again. The director surely has taken the level of the script a notch higher with his immaculate direction & all the actors seemed to be owning their characters already, at such an initial stage of the drama, which once again is a bonus. I wish Maddy’s character got a little more coverage in this episode but it’s alright as he already is the main character of the drama so he will get a lot more chances to leave an impact on us. I will say that I see a great improvement in Sadia Khan’s acting & she looked lovely throughout the episode. Imran Abbas makes all his character look so real due to his effortless acting, so I am already looking forward to his performance as Hammad. I will commend Firdous Jamal for such a beautiful recitation of Fajr Prayer, it was actually quite touching. Firdous Jamal’s overall mannerisms showed the amount of effort he put in to own the character of Molvi Aleemuddin & his performance testified his experience as an actor, that is why, he turned out to be the star of this episode. I can’t wait for the next episode already as I know we have so much in store for us. Please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat!

Silah Episode 01 Review – A Decent Beginning!

Ohkay so, the writing of Sadia Akhtar, the direction of Syed Aabis Raza & the production of Momina Duraid Productions; Silah commenced tonight on HUM TV Network. The first episode of the drama seemed a little too straight forward & they didn’t establish much, except the backgrounds of the main characters & the one sided love that is lingering between the couple-to-be. I actually expected a little more from the first episode but I am hoping that the next episode will impress me a bit more.

We got to meet Aleem (Shakil), whose family consists of his wife Razia (Ismat Zaidi) & 3 daughters; Farkhanda, Maryam (Ainy Jaffrey) & Sana. Aleem family has a middle class background, but Aleem makes enough to feed his family & give them a decent life style. Farkhanda being the eldest daughter works & is unmarried. Maryam is doing MBBS on scholarship & Sana has just completed her college. Farkhanda & Maryam are both quite responsible as they understand the responsibilities their father has on his shoulders by being a father of three daughters. Maryam is a bright student & she is focused on shaping up her future as she knows that her family, especially her parents depend a lot on her & for herself & also for her parents, she has to become a doctor. Maryam also gives tuition in the evening to earn some money to support herself & her parents a little as well. Sana, being the youngest hasn’t garnered the sense of responsibility yet, that is why she gets lectured from both of her sisters when she demands a new suit for her farewell.

collage-02

Then we were introduced to the family of Dr. Ehsan (Javed Sheikh), who’s a heart surgeon & his family includes his wife (Farah Shah) & their only son Taimoor (Farhan Saeed). Taimoor is also doing an MBBS only to fulfill his father’s dream as he does realize that being an only child, his parents have a lot of expectations attached to him. Taimoor is also into music & treats it as a hobby, which his father thinks is only costing him his precious time. However, we get to see that Taimoor’s mother is quite supportive of her son as she knows that he is responsible therefore, he deserves a chance to explore & enjoy something that he loves as he is already fulfilling his father’s wish by becoming a doctor too.

collage-1

We are then taken to the Medical College, where Taimoor, Maryam & a couple of their friends are shown. It has been made clear that the entire college knows that Taimoor likes Maryam, that is why their mutual friend Mehwish keeps on telling Maryam about Taimoor’s feelings for her. Mehwish assures Maryam time & again that Taimoor is not a flirt, he is not looking for a short-term relationship with her & he intends to marry her but Maryam always cuts short the entire conversation because she knows that her friend will never be able to understand the pressures & burdens Maryam has in her life. Even though Maryam spends her time with Mehwish, but she is well aware of the class difference between them, due to which she also knows that her friend Mehwish won’t understand the fact that Maryam can’t afford to get involved in such activities. Mehwish & her friend label Maryam’s indifference to Taimoor as a tantrum & rudeness without even realizing that there must be a reason behind Maryam’s focus on her studies only. Even though Mehwish feels for Taimoor as she understands his feelings, but her persistence & pressures on Maryam seemed a little off-putting.

We then get to see that Maryam ends up misunderstanding Taimoor’s intention of helping & protecting her because she eavesdrops on her class fellows who assume that Taimoor must have paid some guys to bother Maryam, so that he could swoop in like a hero & score some brownie points in front of her. Based on a misunderstanding & an assumption, Maryam gives Taimoor a piece of her mind & that entire situation goes out of hand when Taimoor confronts those guys!

Overall, the first episode was decent but I definitely expected more from it. I liked Taimoor’s character for the fact that even though he is shown as an only child with a financially sound background, he is not a spoiled brat & in stead, he seems quite responsible & mature for his age. Maryam’s character is nice too but doesn’t seem new. Honestly speaking, Maryam seemed like a mini version of Kashaf from Zindagi Gulzar Hai, minus the negativity & bitterness that Kashaf had in her before she became something. The direction of the first episode was good & the acting of all the actors was effortless too, however, in a few scenes, I did feel that Annie Jaffrey was struggling to the point that she looked expressionless & her acting seemed flat. I hope she gives me a chance to warm up to her character in the future episodes too. Also, I must say by the end of the episode, I completely turned the volume down because the background music was just so unnecessarily loud. I hope they cut down on the background music because no one watches a drama to get noise polluted. I will however say that going by the couple of promos that I have watched, the story of this drama does seem interesting, so I am definitely going to keep an eye on how things will unfold in this drama. Anyhow, please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Silah.

Cheers,

Dumpukht- Atish-e-Ishq Episode 15 Review- New beginnings?

The recent episode of Dumpukht was extremely disturbing and left me emotionally traumatized. The writing has been crisp and the acting has been exceptional. Noman Ejaz gave me the creeps as he approached Kulsoom after the nikah- Iss waqt mein tumhara Murshid nahin, tumhara dost houn…

As expected, Habibullah was easily able to convince Haroon that he’s the chosen one and his goal in life is for the greater good-Yeh jo larki hai Kulsoom Bibi yeh koi aam larki nahin hai…mujhe iskey saath noor ka ek hala nazar aya hai…Kulsoom ko uskey muqaam tak pohchaney ke liye, Bilal, tum Aur yahan tak ke mein, Hum Sab iss Amal mein karinday hein…aaj se mein tumhey Kulsoom Ki mureedi mein de raha houn...

Uss kamzarf ne wohi Sab kiya jiska mujhe ilhaam hua tha… Habibullah fabricated a story to stain Bilal’s reputation in the eyes of everyone and further consolidated his position as a well wisher by justifying his decision by saying it was in Kulsoom’s best interests otherwise her family would have rushed to marry her off with just about anyone who would possibly be a far worse choice for her. Bibi hasn’t been able to read Habibullah- she believes every word he says which makes me think she’s not as smart as I thought earlier or maybe she’s become too emotional now that she’s expecting. Even though Bibi promised to make things right for a Kulsoom, hearing Habibullah’s narrative and character assassination, I doubt Bibi will try anything further to support a reunion of Kulchu and Billu.

Once again, I missed Bilal in this episode. The short flashback of him singing was sweet though. I really don’t know how Bilal will manage to prove his innocence because it will be his word against the Peer’s and we’ve seen how everyone worships the Peer so there would really be no question of refuting anything spoken by him.

Although Wali was instrumental in orchestrating the separation, he’s become very insecure and has resorted to neech harkatein to cause more trouble. He was trying to get Haroon to disobey Habibullah by reminding him of his Shariah haq and when I saw Haroon entering Kulsoom’s room, I was in tears. Thankfully, he is heavily subdued by the hukum given to him and after a brief discussion with Kulsoom, he returned to his wazifas. I chuckled when Kulsoom out of habit kept calling him Haroon Bhai and he had to keep reminding her not so. Sar jhukaney mein hi aafiyat hai…darjaat buland hotey hein…

Kamaskam mein toh Kulchu ke liye rongi na, baqi Sab toh apney liye roh rahe hein...
Nimmo once again was the voice of reason who had the courage to speak out and feel Kulsoom’s pain unlike the others who were too engrossed in log kya kahein gay... I find Kaneez Baji extremely selfish and envious- she was jealous of Kulsoom getting her happy ending and even after the hell that broke lose, she’s concerned about how her sasuraal will treat her. The actress playing Kaneez Baji is a huge letdown amongst an otherwise strong cast. Nimmo has been the most genuine person who’s not affected by what others have to say and she is the only one who supported Kulsoom from the start. Try as I may, I didn’t feel sorry for Kulsoom’s parents especially Tahira because she was the one who was after Kulsoom and cursed and abused her endlessly so her pain is nothing in contrast to what Kulsoom is going through right now.

Habibullah’s words creeped me out- Tanhai se ghabra jao toh mere pass chali ana… I don’t know what’s worse- the fact that he has access to Kulsoom or the fact that Kulsoom may eventually find herself drawn to him. I was an emotional mess seeing Kulsoom which only proves how brilliantly this drama has been made and how flawlessly it has been acted out.

What do you think happens next? This drama has been so unpredictable I’ve been shocked time and again.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 01 Overview – Love Story Done Right!

0

Ohkay so, the writing of Hashim Nadeem & the direction of Anjum Shehzad, Khuda Aur Mohabbat aired on Geo TV back in 2011. Now when the Season 02 of Khuda Aur Mohabbat is going to commence this Saturday, I decided to binge watch the 1st season so that I have an idea about what the plot of the drama was. I must say, it was a beautiful journey & I can’t really remember how many times I got emotional watching the sufferings of the main characters. Just when Dhaani drama began, I remember a lot of readers commented that the plot of Dhaani was similar to Khuda Aur Mohabbat, so yes, I will say that I found quite a lot of similarities between both the dramas but when the character of Hammad began his journey of self-discovery, he made me forget about Dhaani completely because honestly, I feel the character of Hammad is far more likable & stronger than the character of Sameer in Dhaani.

So, the story of Khuda Aur Mohabbat revolved around the two families; the family of Commissioner Amjad Raza (Firdous Jamal) & the family of Molvi Aleemuddin (Salman Shahid). Amjad Raza’s family included his wife & three sons, Sajjad, Hammad (Imran Abbas) & Ibaad. Molvi Aleemuddin had two daughters Imaan (Sadia Khan) & Haya & his nephew Abdullah (Ahmed Jehanzeb) also lived with them since childhood because his parents passed away. Amjad Raza belonged to a financially sound background already & his ancestors had a lot of property in the village, but Amjad Raza chose to educate himself & he moved out of the village. He made a name for himself, became a bureaucrat & gave his family a luxurious & comfortable life. On the other hand, like the name suggests, Molvi Aleemuddin was a very simple & humble cleric who barely made a living for his family but all that he wanted & worked for all his life was respect & dignity.

Hammad gets to see Imaan & that is when he falls in love with her, only to discover himself & discover the value & importance of everything in his life. Hammad’s love for a very simple girl allows him to see the real face of his family members & shatters the trust he had in them ever. Hammad’s sister in law Abrina (Farah Shah) wants Hammad to get married to her younger sister but Hammad doesn’t budge because by then, his love for Imaan takes control over his mind & heart & that is when Hammad’s love creates problems for him & Imaan’s family. Hammad’s mother insults Molvi Sahab & that is when Hammad decides that he will eliminate any such person who would oppose his love. That becomes a turning point in his life & his emotional transition begins, where he finds himself, his love, his love for Almighty & his entire perspective on life changes but the base remains the same & that happens to be his love for Imaan.

After leaving his home & family, Hammad starts working as a coolie to be able to make some money for himself but till that point, he lives a very purposeless life until one day he meets a stranger who makes him familiar with the idea of love of Almighty & religion. After putting forth his proposal for Imaan in front of Molvi Sahab, Hammad does realize that he doesn’t fit the bill of Molvi Aleemuddin’s choice for his son-in-law, so he also takes it as a hint to explore what religion has to offer to him but while he is at it, he shows more acceptance towards it & accepts it wholeheartedly, without any hidden agenda of impressing Molvi Aleemuddin or to show him that he has had a change of heart.

When Hammad leaves his home, he comes across so many people like Siddique (Mohsin Gillani), Najma (Fazila Qazi) & Abdul Ghafoor (Shafqat Cheema) who didn’t have the money his father had, but only had love & consideration to offer to him & they immediately become his family who not only feel for him, but stay by his side through thick & thin. Like I said before, Hammad’s character is far more likable & respectable in comparison to Sameer because Hammad had a backbone, he had a personality, he had a mind & more than that, he had a determination & a will to love Imaan to such an extent where he left all his wealth, comforts, family & luxury for her sake. I loved how they introduced Hammad’s character because he was always shown to be a kindhearted human being who always connected with people emotionally irrespective of what their social standing was, that is the reason we saw how Hammad shared a cordial relation with his driver Shakir (Khalid Butt) & his daughter Nighat.

collage-03

Molvi Aleemuddin feels pressurized & that is when he decides to get Imaan married to her cousin Abdullah, who also loves Imaan but doesn’t say much. After seeing the sufferings of Hammad & the change in his entire personality, Abdullah feels that may be he & his uncle are being unfair to Imaan. Imaan feels burdened as she considers herself responsible for Hammad’s sufferings, that is when she decides to meet him, only to tell that she has nothing to offer to him & requests him to return to his family & his life that he had left for her. Imaan does feel the intensity of Hammad’s love for her but she chooses to ignore it as she can never think of letting her father’s trust on her down, that is why, after meeting Hammad for the last time & rejecting him, her health starts to deteriorate & it costs her, her life, that too at such a moment where Molvi Aleemuddin does get convinced that Hammad is capable of getting married to Imaan & that way, this love story ends tragically.

I must say, the way the writer had written Hammad’s character & the way the director showed his transition was beautiful. This entire journey was so enticing & captivating that it just didn’t allow my mind to divert at all. Even though it is a done deal that Imran Abbas is a phenomenal actor, but his acting as Hammad was so convincing. Imran Abbas made everything, like Hammad’s love for Imaan, his restlessness, his grief, his hope, his efforts, his speechlessness every time his eyes met Imaan’s, just so beautiful that I couldn’t help feel his pain. I must say, I didn’t expect to see such an ending & till the end I was hopeful that may be Hammad & Imaan will get to be together & may be all the prayers & all the efforts of Hammad won’t go to waste & he will get Imaan as a reward for all the struggles that he did till day but Alas! They weren’t meant to be.

I loved how simple the approach of the director was, it just made things a lot more real & convincing. The director for sure extracted the best acting out of all the actors, be it the protagonists or the supporting actors, each & every actor did a convincing job & the writer made all the characters seem quite important, like there was not even a single character that I can pick which wasn’t needed in this story. This story highlighted so many factors about how society puts pressures on people irrespective of which social class they belong to. Even though Molvi Aleemuddin knew that Hammad’s wish was not wrong & he was not at fault for wanting to get married to Imaan but he was too scared about his image getting ruined & also about the class difference between them that he didn’t accept Hammad’s proposal, even after seeing how much he changed. This drama highlighted the fact that people measure their strength & respect based on how much wealth they have garnered all their lives, that is why Hammad’s family doesn’t accept his love for Molvi’s daughter & Molvi Aleemuddin doesn’t accept Hammad knowing that he belongs to a very different world. I loved how Imaan took care of her father’s wishes & didn’t even think about going against his decision, she actually understood all the struggles her father had been through in his life to earn respect & make a name for himself, that is why she chose to stick with her father’s decision despite knowing that the idea of Hammad loving her to such an extent will haunt her all her life.

I am glad that I decided to watch Khuda Aur Mohabbat & after watching it, I know that I missed a very nice drama, which was filled with some beautiful characters, a lot of emotions, some amazing dialogues, some very meaningful conversations, beautiful performances & a heart-warming & unique love story. I loved the OST of this drama too, however I do have an issue with the lyrics but keeping that aside, I also feel it was used a bit too much that after a few episodes it lost its charm. The direction was amazing & I couldn’t help but rejoice at the fact that it only had 14 episodes. Imran Abbas once again made me a fan of his acting, he surely is one of the best actors of all times & I am actually excited to see him in Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 02. Please share your thoughts about Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 01 & do let me know if you’re excited for Season 02?

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Dil Banjara Episodes 2 & 3 Review – Tragic Turn Of Events

These two episodes of Dil Banjara gave more of an insight into all the characters which were introduced in the first episode. Phupo and her son’s character were also introduced in these episodes. Nida is apparently one of those girls who only dream big, otherwise she cannot even give a firm reply to someone who belittles her every chance she gets, yes, I am talking about the “aapi”! The primary reason for this is that she was brought up in a household in which someone who is older than you can say or do anything they want. Watching Taya abu showing willingness to help out with Nida’s wedding and accepting her as his own daughter gave a relatively softer feel to his character but that particular image did not last for long. Apart from Nida and her parents everyone else in that family has a very closed view of life. Also, Nida’s fiancé Zaman turned out to be a spoiled brat who it seemed had never lived in his mamo’s house before. Zaman has zero respect for people around him which is something Nida’s father notices too but he is majboor because of all the family pressure.

Shama’s accident and its tragic outcome was the most important development in these two episodes. Sikandar’s character appeared to be completely irresponsible in the first episode but in the second episode watching Sikandar trying to clear the misunderstanding between him and Shama and later on blaming himself for what had happened to Shama went to show that he was a sensitive person who cared about the feelings of people he loved. There were many times in both these episodes were Adnan Malik appeared to be trying too hard.

Nida’s relationship with her mother is one of a kind because of her mother’s unique personality. Nida’s mother just like her father is the only person in the house who respects and loves her dearly. Both these people might not meet the standards of outward perfection but inwardly they are beautiful and perfect people who love their daughter greatly and will do anything to make her happy.

Shama lost her mobility but did not question why she could no longer feel her legs! I would think that someone who lost all movement in their legs would notice that as soon as they regained consciousness. Watching Sikandar trying to show her the bright side of the picture showed another side of his personality. Even though he was shown as someone who believed in living his life on his terms and conditions, he is the sort of person who would pause his life for someone who matters to him.

Adnan Malik’s shaky performance was the worst part of these two episodes. He did not make it easy for me to relate to his character, on the contrary every time he was shown getting upset because of what happened to Shama, he looked quite awkward. Sanam Saeed was very convincing as Nida in both these episodes. The director could however have used a little more lighting especially in the scenes which showed day time. Most of the scenes were recorded indoors therefore use of proper lighting could have helped the viewers distinguish between day and night. The overall atmosphere of Nida’s house is depressing enough as it is, the closed windows and the dull lighting did not help.

It remains to be seen how Nida will manage to leave the country when her father is having a tough time convincing his brother to let her go to the college even! This latest episode ended with Shama thinking about how it would feel to live her life moving around in that wheelchair. So far Mira Sethi has been pretty likeable as Shama.

The preview of the next episode showed Nida’s father trying to convince his brother to let Nida go abroad for her debating competition.

Nichlos Cage Army of One Will Be Showing Pakistan in a very Wrong Angle

0

It leaves me in a state of shock to know that the film- makers are still not over the idea of making films on Osama Bin Laden. Larry Charles who is also director of the film Borat upcoming film is Army of One starring Nichloas Cage.

Apart from the main character of the film the thing that disturbed me even more was the trailer itself. Here watch it for yourself.

The trailer says it all that for Hollywood Pakistan is a country which mainly has mountains and terrorist, nothing else. Moro ever the kind of Pakistan they have shown it is mostly under construction. The film is based on a true story, Army of One features Nicolas Cage in the lead role of Gary who has “no purpose” in life, as stated in the official trailer.

The previous Hollywood ventures which are shot in Pakistan include  Vertical Limit, Nanga Parbat, A Mighty Heart, Infinite Justice, K2, Rambo 3, Son of a Lion have one thing in common mountain and terrorists.

I think now its the the time to tell Hollywood directors and writers that Pakistan is not what they are portraying.

The movie is expected to release on 4th November. It is going to be very hilarious but also very offensive at-least for us.

Do share with me will you be watching this film ?
