News Alert: Jeena Ke Maa Baap Nahi Hein!!!

Lately, there has been a trend that when a drama gets very popular people make memes to express their love and generally their feelings about the characters and the situations in the play. Sometimes the memes are funny but there has never been a time when a character was disliked so much by the viewers for uttering a single dialogue over and over again that people started making fun of it. Mann Mayal is getting attention for all the wrong reasons right now. There might have been a time when it had some fans who liked some of the characters but right now this drama is no more than a joke. Jeena’s character in particular is getting a lot of ‘attention’ like I mentioned earlier for all the wrong reasons!!

jeena

Jeena is a desperate girl who is in love with Salahuddin. She mentions the fact that her parents died and she has no family repeatedly to get attention from anyone and everyone. The dialogue “mere tu maa baap bhi nahi hein” has been repeated so many times in the past few weeks even in situations where it wasn’t needed that it has turned into an even bigger joke than the drama itself!!! Jeena has been misusing “mere tu maa baap nahi hein” card like it is going out of fashion to get the attention of the characters. Even if we insert the actual dialogues of the play in the screen shot from the drama, it automatically turns into a funny meme. Look at this for instant!!

jeena19

While we were talking about the memes that are circulating on the internet, my friend Zahra Mirza gave me the idea of compiling all of them so that we could have a good laugh. All the people behind these memes are much more talented than those who are behind the character “Jeena”! Even Ayesha Khan took notice of these Memes and remarked on her instagram page that people should get over it because this joke was getting lame!! We, on the other hand think that it is not the joke that is lame but the repetition of this dialogue and the character itself is the lamest thing we have seen in a long time. Most viewers feel nothing for Jeena’s character therefore these memes are spot on!! Ayesha Khan also sounded very annoyed with people for judging her based on Jeena’s character. Here is what she had to say while commenting on one of the memes.

jeena7

We agree, it is not the actor who writes the scripts, directs the drama or edits it but it is the actor who chooses out of his or her own free will to be part of a project. You can’t rave about Jeena ‘trending’ and at the same time not take responsibility for the final product.

I am sharing some really funny memes here, don’t forget to share your thoughts about them. Which one is your favorite? My personal favorite is the first one LOL!!!

Besharam – Episode 08!

Ohkay so, this episode of Besharam didn’t offer much but it did take the story forward a bit in terms of characters & the changes they are going through & have started to feel in their perspectives. I am so glad that I tuned to this drama because it has a set of strong characters that know how to deal with the pressures in a best way possible & that makes it a very interesting watch.

I loved how Haider tried to convince his mother that Mishi will do everything to please her while looking at his wife with an expression that she should understand & put up an act in front of Khadija. Mishi agreed that she’d say no to modelling only because she wanted to give respect to Haider as he has initiated this aspect in their marriage where he believes in giving Mishi the respect she deserves & Mishi decided to reciprocate that gesture too. The glances that they both shared were so amusing which once again showed the level of understanding both Mishal & Haider have started to develop with each other. Mishal did however confess that she only agreed to the no modelling notion because she didn’t want to let Haider down in front of his mother which was quite considerate of her. It is actually quite nice to see how Mishal has slowly & steadily started to understand that this relationship means something & it deserves the utmost attention & care because they both have made a promise & now it is their duty to nurture it. I found it actually quite sweet that just as much Mishal was trying to compromise, Haider was doing his best to compromise too in order to make Mishal feel comfortable, accommodated & a part of his life & family.

The bits & bobs of Wahab were actually a treat to watch. I know Sofia didn’t laugh at his joke but I most certainly did. He says he is ready to solve their problems but little does he know that he is only adding more fuel to the fire. Wahab changed his stance quickly because he knew that he won’t be able to deal with the wrath of Saasu Ma & Sofie Jaan, that is why he suggested creating problems & misunderstandings between Haider & Mishal to bring Mishal back to their home. It was actually quite funny to see him trying to please everyone where he met Haider wholeheartedly & praised him in order to make Mishal happy & now behind her back, he was saying things that he knew would make Saasu Ma & Sofie Jaan happy too. His comment about becoming 4th Abba of Sofie was hilarious, he may sound or look stupid but even he has read this family quite well & he knows that Sara would do anything for money. Wahab did however say the truth that just because Mishal was a ‘sonay ki chiriya’ Sara was infuriated at her daughter as he knows that his Saasu Ma depended heavily on Mishal & her earnings. It is quite interesting to see Wahab being shown as someone who looks stupid on the surface but has quite an insight. :D

I wish Shakira & Saba didn’t get that much of coverage because their scenes ended up looking like fillers & I wish that screen-time was given to Haider’s political career but never mind, at least they did find out that Haider has brought Mishal back to his home & they both are giving this marriage a chance, which was a reality check that Shakira needed to know that Haider & his family are done following their orders. I was actually dreading seeing Khadija turning into a typical mother in law but I am glad that she has the forgiving bone in her body where when she will see how hard Mishal is trying to gel in their lifestyle, she will accept her & forget how she initially entered their lives. Even though Khadija’s tone was harsh but I liked how she reminded Haider of his responsibilities that he had towards Mishal, where she told him to go out & make some money because he now had a wife to take care of too.

I enjoyed watching the scenes of Mishal & Haider the most where they both were trying to find truce & set limits for each other, where Mishal told him that she is not used to sharing a room with anyone & Haider told her that he wants her to make breakfast for him. The thing he said about respecting Mishal was actually quite sweet, it left Mishal speechless & forced her to agree that she can make tea for him. Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed both acted brilliantly in those scenes because the amusement of Haider & irritation of Mishal was portrayed perfectly. I wish Haider’s political career hadn’t come to a halt, I thought Asfand Sultan will be able to differentiate between Haider’s personal & professional life but he is still concerned that just because Haider got married at a live show, people will point fingers at him which will also mean that people will question Asfand Sultan’s choices as a leader of his political party. I hope Haider finds a way back into politics because that is something he is passionate about.

Overall, I had a great time watching this episode & as the episodes are passing by, this drama is turning out to be my favorite & something that I actually look forward to the entire week. Saba Qamar looked beautiful & I loved the chemistry that she & Zahid Ahmed have as Mishal & Haider. The rest of the cast is doing a great job too & it feels that the director has made sure that the actors put a lot of hard work in establishing the relationships between the characters because it shows & completes the entire picture & last but not the least, I thank Malik Raza for portraying the character of Wahab so brilliantly on screen, he is also becoming one of the characters whose scenes I look forward to actually. :) Please share your thoughts about this episode of Besharam.

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 16!

Ohkay so, this episode was slow yet interesting. There were a lot of thought provoking conversations in this episode too & like we all expected, this is the charm of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar’s scripts where he adds depth to the situations using the magic of the words & it’s good to see the drama doing well at this stage.

Mahnoor has proved it once again that she is not only selfish but emotionally absent too. If there’s one person she cares about, it is her own-self because if she had considered what Haadi will go through before their divorce or if she had considered what he must be going through after the divorce, she would’ve never ever played with his feelings & her own dignity like that. Mahnoor is one of a kind & that too in a bad way because no girl would do this to anyone else or herself either.

I must say, I am thoroughly disappointed in Haadi. I thought this divorce was enough for him to realize that Mahnoor never deserved him & he was better off without a selfish person like her. Yes, I do agree that one can love someone unconditionally but to think about getting back with someone after the divorce seems a bit too much. I totally agree to the notion of Aneesa about him where she referred to him as a hopeless guy. Aneesa knew that her daughter was at fault but she was more disappointed to find out that Haadi was justifying her fault by allowing her to rule him without having any association with him. Haadi has put himself in this misery because he is allowing Mahnoor to dominate him as if he has no brains of his own & he is her minion. If he wanted, he could’ve stopped her right away but he let her walk her way back in his life & I am sure it won’t take too long before she will walk all over him once again but now if this happens, I think Haadi will deserve it too. He really needs to have his heart broken again & again for him to realize how wrong he is.

Mahnoor doesn’t understand the gravity of the situation & she thinks putting a blame on others for her own mistakes is the way to go. First she blamed Haadi for making her fall out of love for him but she never owned her mistake that she fell for Waqar without having any reasons to & now once again she did the same thing by putting a blame on Uzma that it was because of her letter that Mahnoor ended up demanding divorce from Haadi. I don’t really understand why Haadi questioned Uzma about the letter she wrote where she ordered him to leave the room as soon as possible, Haadi has known Mahnoor for quite a while now, so why was it so hard for him to put two & two together & understand that definitely Mahnoor must’ve said something to Uzma that pushed Uzma to this point. It is like Haadi is also like one of those who don’t really want to face the problem & thinks that closing his eyes tightly will assure that everything will be fine. I actually feel that Haadi is trying really hard to accept everything that is happening but the way he is being submissive of Mahnoor’s demands is making him look quite weak. There’s a difference between loving someone selflessly & being weak & Haadi isn’t depicting a selfless love here.

Mahnoor thinks Halala is the right option for her but it was good to see that her mother was there to tell her the difference between shamelessness & Halala. “Waqar ko hi dhoondh lo, barbaad kar ke gaya hai to chalo jatay jatay abaad kar jaye tumhe”. Aneesa tried to make Mahnoor realize that she needs to sort this mess out & the only person that could help her will be Waqar because he is also responsible for the step Mahnoor took but I am actually dreading by thinking that may be, there’s a possibility of this drama becoming one of those Halala stories because when I saw the OST, I thought Mahnoor will get married to Waqar but I am not sure if she will get married to him only to part ways with him so that she can get back with Haadi. I hope that’s not the case & when she gets married, Haadi realizes how hard it will be to accept her back & he refuses to do that because practically, this is exactly what he should do. Mahnoor can not & should not have things her way.

“Mai aik larki hoon, isi liye kahoongi ke kar lijiye, kisi dusri larki ki aabroo ka sawal hai.”
“Ikhtiyaar sahab se poochoon?”
“Wo bhi kahainge ke kar lijiye, kyunke kisi dusre ki beti ka sawal hai”

Haadi knows that Uzma will never instigate him to leave Mahnoor & she will only support Mahnoor’s stance, despite being honest & truthful because she will also consider how Haadi still is in love with Mahnoor. It was like he only went there to hear what he wanted to. I feel Haadi has always relied heavily on Uzma’s opinions but in the end has always done what he has deemed fit, so this time around too, his urge to get an advice from Uzma didn’t seem justified because it was so obvious that he will do what his heart will tell him & that is already in the favor of Mahnoor. If Haadi had paid attention to what Uzma said, he would’ve understood the underlying message that Uzma only suggested getting back with Mahnoor because her values didn’t allow her to speak against a girl on human grounds but in general she didn’t mean it because any sane person would always suggest leaving the deceiving person behind & moving on.

Overall, this episode was pretty decent. Gaitiara & Waqar’s scenes are not sparking an interest & they end up looking like fillers. Gaiti is head over heels in love with Waqar & Waqar is making the most of it, so there’s nothing more to that. Sana Javed has really done justice to Mahnoor, it is so obvious that she’s into her character & that’s why she has succeeded in making us all hate Mahnoor’s character. Yumna Zaidi as Uzma is equally good too & for the first time, I felt for Uzma a lot, she is suffering because she can see that Haadi is suffering too. Her question about Haadi still being in love with Mahnoor & her expressions after she got Haadi’s answer told how hard it was for her to accept it. Zahid Ahmed has done a great job too but in general I am disappointed at Haadi’s display of weakness in this episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

“Hamza Ali Abbasi Said Everything To Get Publicity” – Waqar Zaka

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi’s controversial questions and statements in his Ramzan special show have received many reactions from the public and celebrities. Most celebrities till now have supported Hamza Ali Abbasi because they believe everyone has the right to freedom of expression and Hamza Ali was only exercising that right. Waqar Zaka is the first celebrity who has come out and expressed openly how he feels about Hamza Ali Abbasi’s actions. In a long video Waqar Zaka discussed the issue of Ahmedis and the duty of the state towards non Muslims. Later on he went on to share why this whole thing was wrong.

2

Waqar Zaka said that Hamza Ali Abbasi could have discussed this issue behind the scenes and then asked a question. But what he did was not ask a question but share an opinion which was totally contrary to what most people believe in, which proves he was doing it all to get attention and publicity. Waqar Zaka apologized to Hamza Ali Abbasi before hand and said that he should admit that he was wrong.

Waqar Zaka supported PEMRA’s ban on Hamza Ali Abbasi and also criticized his stance after Jawani Phir Nahi Aani. He also requested Hamza Ali Abbasi to stop insulting his religion and understand it first and then talk about it.

Kathputli – Episode 01, 02 & 03!

Ohkay so, the production of Momina Duraid, writing of Faiza Iftikhar & direction of Atif Rathore; Kathputli hit our screens 3 weeks ago & is currently airing on Saturday 8PM on HUM TV. I started watching it after it got recommended to me & I found it to be quite interesting. I am glad that I had 3 episodes to watch one after another because it gave me enough material to make up my mind if I was going to follow or review it or not. The drama has a simple story-line, with some seen-before characters but it has been packaged nicely by the creative team & that is what makes it a decent drama to tune into.

The story is about the family of Mehr-un-Nisa (Sanam Chaudhry), who lives with her mother Zeenat (Farah Nadeem) & two brothers Ehtasham (Atif Rathore) & Hassam (Fasi Sardar). Mehru is engaged to her first cousin Shiraz (Gohar Mumtaz) who doesn’t live in Pakistan & is her only support system because when it comes to her brothers, they are quite strict & have very rigid rules that they have set for Mehru. Ehtasham takes care of his family, therefore he thinks he is the one who will decide how his family members should lead their life. It was only because of Shiraz & his family’s support that Mehru got the permission to go to the college because when it comes to Ehtasham, he doesn’t deem it fit to allow Mehru to step outside the vicinity of his home. Ehtasham is shown to be quite a conservative person who thinks it is his birth right to control the ladies of his house because when it comes to his younger brother Hassam, all the rules change. Ehtasham endorses a very typical mentality where he thinks his sister doesn’t have a right to life freely but his brother can do whatever he wants to.

Collage 1

Then we were introduced to the family of Zaitoon Bano (Shaheen Khan), which consists of her husband, eldest son Ahsan, his wife Mehwish (Binita) & youngest son Ahad (Farhan Ahmed Malhi). This family is quite dysfunctional because seems like the father is not happy with how things are rolling in his family. He has become quite bitter because his retirement is approaching & he is worried how his sons will take care of this entire family. His sons do not share a cordial relationship with their father too because he keeps on reminding them of their responsibilities, which they don’t really take seriously. Mehwish has Ahsan wrapped around her finger & that is why she keeps on telling him how only he shouldn’t be the one contributing to the household expenses only because Ahad should do that too. Ahad is still looking for a job & he knows that his father will keep on taunting him till he starts making some money.

Collage 02

So, Ehtasham happens to be getting married but he tells his mother that his marriage will take place on his conditions only because he doesn’t like meaningless functions & gatherings. On that occasion Shiraz, his mother (Samina Ahmed) & his sister Neha, tell Zeenat that they will be attending Ehtasham’s wedding & will spend that time in their house because it happens to be the first wedding of her family. Ehtasham tells Mehru clearly that she should not mingle with Shiraz because he wouldn’t tolerate it. Ehtasham gets married & tells his wife about his expectations which more likely end up looking like the restrictions he was imposing on her. Just when Shiraz is about to leave, he along with Neha plans to meet Mehru on the terrace, that’s when Ehtasham sees them both together & calls their engagement quits. Shiraz admits that it was his mistake & Mehru wasn’t at fault, therefore he thinks its his duty to fix things & only because of that reason, he sends his mother to Mehru’s house once again to sort things out. Hassam tells Ehtasham that he wants to get married to Neha so if Zeenat wants to see Mehru getting married to Shiraz, she should demand that they should also get Neha engaged or married to Hassam too. Shiraz’s mother refuses to accept Neha’s proposal & that’s when they finally decide that Mehru & Shiraz can not be together.

Collage 03

On the other front, just when Ahad is about to leave for his job interview to another city, his mother gives him some money & tells him to keep it to himself. Mehwish blames Ahad for stealing her wedding ring & just when she finds out some money in his pocket, Ahad takes the blame on himself because he knows that if he tells the truth that it was his mother who gave him the money, it could land her in trouble. Ahad leaves his place & looks like he has nowhere to go now.

I actually felt bad for Mehru when her engagement with Shiraz ended because Shiraz was the outlet that she required & looked forward to. She knew that her life will completely change once she will get married to Shiraz because he & his family lived life normally & didn’t believe in such restrictions & boundaries that Ehtasham had decided for her. Mehru was hopeful & in that hope, she followed the instructions of her brothers because she knew that it’s just a matter time when she will break free from this cage & live the life with Shiraz that she always dreamt of but sadly, all her dreams were crushed only because of the ego of her brothers especially Ehtasham. Another character that was introduced was of Ehtasham’s wife Saira. It was so obvious that Ehtasham looked down on his wife because she came from a lower middle class family but what was good about her was that she reasoned with Ehtasham & left him speechless. I hope that she brings a change in her husband’s mentality & changes his perspective because that will bring peace & harmony in the entire family. The note at which the 3rd episode ended was good but what’s making me look forward to this drama is the preview of the 4th episode because looks like Mehru’s life is going to change completely & she & Ahad will cross paths with each other.

The drama has been executed decently & the direction of the drama is great too. All the actors have performed brilliantly & the writing so far seems quite interesting. I was a bit disappointed to see the central character of Ehtasham being shown in a negative light for being religious but sadly, our society is full of such hypocritical people who believe in setting different rules for different people & who don’t really mind looking down on people, therefore Ehtasham’s character ended up looking justified, more like a bitter truth. I must say that the character of Ehtasham has been etched out perfectly by the writer & the actor Atif Rahtore has done complete justice to it because he made me loath his character which actually is a win for him as an actor. Sanam Chaudhry is such an eye-candy & I loved watching her performance throughout these episodes. In the end I’ll say that if I have to, I most certainly will recommend this drama to those who’re curious. Please share your thoughts about the first 3 episodes of Kathputli.

Armeena Khan’s Latest Interview

0

Armeena Khan is a Pakistani-Canadian film and TV actress. She first starred alongside Azfar Rehman in comedy sitcom, Happily Married. Her drama serial, Shab-e-Aarzoo Ka Alam didn’t receive much attention but her acting in Muhabbat Ab Nahe Hogi was appreciated and although she played quite a flawed character, it was difficult for viewers to completely hate her. We saw her play a supporting character in Momina Duraid’s Bin Roye, where she appeared alongside two of the biggest names in Pakistani entertainment industry – Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed. We will be seeing her in Reham Khan and Hareem Farooq’s Janaan pretty soon.

In a recent interview with Express Tribune, Armeena talked about working in Pakistani dramas and films.

Talking about the kind of characters she wants to do, “I have refused 10 dramas and three films this year. I don’t want to do the bechari aurat role.”

1068283-janan-1458368830-150-640x480

She shared that she can relate to her character in Janaan because she is like her in many ways. “Meena, in Janaan is a lot like me — a young girl who has just returned to her roots and is rediscovering them from a fresh perspective. It talks about the relationships you didn’t nurture and the beauty of the area you originate from. Meena is empowered, ambitious and ultimately falls in love with Pakistan like I did.”

Osman Khalid Butt has penned the script for Janaan. Armeena sat with Osman Khalid Butt while he was finalising the script for Janaan. “My habits were incorporated into the script like how I laugh and my expressions so you will see Meena in all of Armeena’s shades in the film.”

armeena 2

Armeena confessed that for her, playing a typical housewife in dramas can be a bit of a challenge. “My upbringing is not in accordance with the local culture or the daily activities of Pakistani housewives; so I had to study it — it’s not something that came naturally to me.” She also shared that she took acting courses at Pinewood and Ealing in London. “My shortcomings came to light but I realised that acting schools are great but ultimately it boils down to how centred you are in your character.”

Armeena refuses to endorse whitening products. “I can’t go down the Kim Kardashian route or endorse things that hurt people’s self-esteem because many of my fans are young women.”

Bilal-Ashraf-Armeena-Rana-Ali-Rehman-in-Janaan

She has already made her Bollywood debut with a film that didn’t receive much attention. “I am not averse to Bollywood because I’ve done that already but I have a strong sense of social responsibility. I am the first girl in my family to enter the media; so they have expectations of me as do my fans.”

Jana Malik On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

In the latest episode of Star Iftaar, we saw the very beautiful and jolly Jana Malik. Sarmad Khoosat praised Jana Malik for being very hard-working and dedicated to her work.

I remember Jana Malik mostly from her PTV days. She also played the extremely conniving and scheming sister-in-law in Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si. Currently, viewers can see her in Sarmad Khoosat’s Mor Mahal. Again, this was one of those episodes where the main focus was on the dishes being prepared. I am disappointed that we didn’t get to learn much about Jana Malik; she has been associated with the industry for quite a long time so it would have been interesting to see her share her experiences. Khair…

Sarmad Khoosat prepared Quick Qorma (Shahi Style – reference to Mor Mahal, maybe? ;) ).

Umer Naru’s Interview

0

Umer Naru is a talented young actor, best known for his role in Pyare Afzal, where he played the gullible Mehtaab. He also played the very sweet and sensitive brother-in-law in Durr-e-shahwar and these days, viewers can see him take on the role of Shehzada Taimoor in Sarmad Khoosat’s Mor Mahal.

In a recent interview with Dawn Images, Umer Naru talked about his character and his experience working in Mor Mahal.

CdwPMwnWIAAwQUZ.jpg large

When asked about the most challenging thing about working in Mor Mahal, Umer answered, ”Shooting through the brain-melting summer, dressed in thick layers of clothing, whilst maintaining game face.”

The characters in Mor Mahal have to speak khalis, saqeel Urdu. Umer Naru was asked if that was a challenge. ”By the time we went into shooting, I was well prepared. And yes, I did learn quite a few new words along with their historical context. Words like saazindey, aseelein(female guards of the harem) and kornish…but mostly I picked up on the right pronunciations of words.”

13398469_1762274787320436_1649528805_n

He played the nice guy in Pyare Afzal, Durr-e-shahwar, Mirat-ul-uroos. Why is that? ”It so happened that those scripts passed the bare minimum standard I had set for myself. I don’t know if there is a trap and even if there is one I ain’t falling for it.”

Talking about his character in Mor Mahal, ”Prince Taimoor is an idealist, who wears his heart on his sleeve. He is a good-natured, naive young nawab who finds himself caught in unusual set of circumstances. His parents’ political disagreements and life choices have a direct impact on the course of his destiny.”

un

Umer Naru admitted that essaying the role of Shehzada Taimoor gave an opportunity to discover his strengths and limitations as an actor. ”I haven’t exposed myself like this on screen before. Sometimes, in emotionally charged or physically demanding scenes, the line between restraint and over emoting seemed thin.”

Umer Naru has done a lot of theater work. In 2012, an international Shakespeare festival was held by the prestigious Globe Theatre were 37 countries took part to perform Shakespearean plays in their native languages. Umer Naru went to England and got to perform in Taming of the Shrew. This was one of his most cherished experiences that helped him gain confidence.

Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai, Teaser is out

Mann Mayal – Episode 23

OMG!!!! What a pathetic, disgusting, lame and shameful ‘twist’ in a story which was already nauseating enough as it was!! Based on what this useless episode showed tonight, all the women out there should go shoot themselves!! Samira Fazal has done it again, she has shown something outrageous which is truly disturbing to say the least and the viewers are supposed to sit back and enjoy these twists! The way the women in this drama use their ‘gender’ to their advantage and curse themselves because being a woman is a crime of some sort is just plain DISGUSTING!!! What we saw today went to show that Mann Mayal will only get worse with every passing episode.

mm1

Mannu finally ‘confessed’ that she was a weak woman who could not even make her own decisions, which basically proves my point – Mannu is a bechari, she always was and always will be and why is that?? The easiest shortcut to getting ratings from all those viewers who do not want to see strong women in dramas is a bechari aurat. Here are some pathetic (yes! I am going to use this word over and over again) messages which this drama is sending out to its viewers:

  1. Women have zero self-respect.
  1. Women are completely helpless.
  1. The only thing that works in women’s favor is that men fall for them.
  1. Parents can disown their daughters and hand them over to men they did not even approve of in the past when it suits them best.
  1. Last but not the least ‘beti ka ghum’ is responsible for 99.9 percent of heart attacks!!!

mm2

There are dramas like Udaari which show the viewers women who can easily pass as role models and then there are disasters like Mann Mayal which portray women as desperate and helpless creatures who lack self-respect. It is hard to decide which part of this episode was more pathetic – Mannu’s forced helplessness or Jeena’s planned desperate moves! Flirting with Jamil verbally was not enough therefore Jeena gave Jamil the opportunity to get ‘closer’ to her so that he would be ‘tempted’ to cheat on his ‘master’!!! Which century was this drama written in??? I am guessing a century when people didn’t think much.

mm3

This was another episode which did not even deserve a review. Viewers who are no longer following this drama are doing themselves a huge favor.

PEMRA Bans Aamir Liaquat’s Show

0

PEMRA has issued many notices recently to different channels. In another move PEMRA issued another notice to Geo Entertainment and also banned Aamir Liaquat’s game show Inaam Ghur which airs in the month of Ramzan specifically. The show has been banned for 3 days from 28th June to 30th June. After that the host has to apologize on the show which will air on 1st July for all the mistakes which have been pinpointed by PEMRA in the notice. The host Aamir Liaquat will apologize to all the viewers in the beginning of his show and will follow the code of conduct from now on.

aamir liaquat

The reasons for banning the show for 3 days and asking for a live apology on television were many. Firstly, the reason was that Aamir Liaquat pretended to be a woman who was trying to commit suicide by hanging from the fan. Secondly, a man was shown cursing on live TV after he won a prize. Thirdly, a woman who called on the show used foul language. Fourthly, the host Aamir Liaquat danced holding a pole in one of the shows which was considered obscene by the members.

The representative of Geo TV asked the council to give him 15 days to give a reply to all these complaints. PEMRA has asked Geo to give an answer not later than the 3rd day of Eid.

amir

PEMRA also said in its notice that next time anyone wants to use the uniform of the armed forces for commercial purposes, they have to take permission from ISPR first. They also asked game show hosts to follow the rules set by the society and adhere to the cultural values of the country.

The supporters of the show condemned this action on twitter.

Now, fans are promised that Khuda Aur Muhabbat Season 2 will hit their screens very soon. It is a much awaited and anticipated sequel. Imran Abbas too is very excited about this project which is why he keeps his fans posted through instagram.

Udaari – Episode 12

Udaari has proved that a sensitive topic which is also considered highly tabooed in our society can also be shown on screen without crossing the line which many other dramas dealing with similar issues have done in the past. The makers of dramas like Chup Raho and Sangat who glorified all the pathetic clichés that exist in our society, went completely off track and undermined the role of a mother should take a leaf out of Udaari’s book. This drama cannot be praised enough because after a very long time we are watching a drama which in a very impressive way deals with something which is usually swept under the rug. Not only this Udaari has some very strong women and mothers who self-reliant, educated women can relate to and others can look up to them as role models.

udari (2)

This episode opened remarkably and ended just as brilliantly. Arsh and his band finally managed to fulfill their dream and the way everyone’s reaction was shown was the best part of this scene. This was not just a huge success for Arsh and the band but it was an even bigger success for Meeran and Sheedan, who needed this more than anyone else in the band. Illyas’ family and his own reaction had to be the most ‘gratifying’ of them all!!! There was a time when this man thought he ‘owned’ Meeran, he used to tell her not to sing in public and now there were millions of people watching Meeran bask in glory, looking confident and proud of what she had managed to achieve. Meeran was being appreciated and applauded for something she had been mocked for by all these people. She had a reason to be proud not only because she was talented but most importantly because she was gifted with a mother and group of people who believed in her. Meeran’s journey has sent so many positive messages for so many people out there. She wouldn’t have made it this far if Milli did not believe in her. Also, she learned from her mistakes and managed to achieve what seemed impossible. Farwa’s parents reaction got a few seconds but it showed that Farwa’s mother in particular had realized how wrong she was! She looked down upon this profession and these people but tonight they were shining on screen because they held on to their dreams and worked hard to make them a reality. This was a beautiful scene which was captured impeccably. Had this scene not been directed the way it was, it wouldn’t have had such a huge impact. Now, the viewers have even more of a reason to look forward to what lies ahead for Meeran in particular. Arsh and his band would have made something out of their lives even if they did not achieve all this but Meeran would have been singing on weddings even when she felt like she deserved better all her life if she didn’t get this opportunity.

udari1

Zebu’s track was covered flawlessly in this episode. The writer, director and the actors deserve an award for putting their heart and soul in this project. The way Sajida found out that Imtiaz was mistreating Zebu was very well done but it was Sajida’s reaction to all this which made it very realistic. Sajida’s first reaction was that of shock, she thought Imtiaz was merely physically abusing her daughter and there were also times when she tried to tell herself she was over thinking things. After thinking about her daughter’s behaviour in the recent past and asking her a few questions, the answer of which clearly suggested Zebu was scared of her father, she was convinced that Zebu was not safe in this house with Imtiaz. Like any intelligent mother, she distanced Zebu from Imtiaz, since she did not exactly know what went on she could not confront Imtiaz. Sajida’s over protective attitude towards her daughter was also shown really well. She knew she could not trust Imtiaz but it wasn’t till the end of the episode that Zebu told her what actually happened. Sajida also thought about the incident with Meeran which was also something that made her question Imtiaz’s character. Sammiya Mumtaz’s acting in all these scenes was absolutely superb. Also the child star playing Zebu has done her part really well. Imtiaz’s reaction was also shown excellently; he wasn’t sure what he should do since Sajida clearly wasn’t in the mood to ‘bargain’. What will be Sajida’s next move? Will she turn to Sheedan for help? Is Imtiaz going to sit back and let Sajida do what she wants to?

This episode was faultless in every way. A big thank you to the entire team of Udaari for putting this brilliant show together. Udaari has been exceptional right from the beginning and it is only getting better with every episode. This drama deals with how vulnerable children are but at the same time it has some very strong characters. Also, I have a feeling that just like Meeran’s track, Zebu’s track will also go in a direction where we will see her grow and flourish. This episode was full of positive messages – there is always hope if you are surrounded by people who love you and support you! Way to go team Udaari, looking forward to more from all of you!

How many of you watched this amazing episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Films releasing on Eidul Fitr

Eidul Fitr is a festive occasion in our country comprising of multiple (3 – 4) holidays every year. These holidays result in a long weekend which proves a lucrative window for cinema business. Friends, Families, Individuals pour in to watch their favorite stars and films during these holidays. Traditionally film producers present their premier productions on such occasion.

The long weekend of the Eid provide a strong opening to the films released and even after the Eid holidays if the film fails to sustain its business, it has already earned reasonable amount during the Eid holidays. During Eid holidays all the cine goers want to watch some film and even if they fail to get the ticket of their favorite film, they watch the other film and thus every film benefits from Eid holidays.

Here is the compilation of the Eid releases with a minor comparison with the films released on Eidul Fitr last year.

Bollywood – Sultan
Bollywood films are the life line of the cinema industry of the Pakistan. Their consistent success in Pakistan has helped reviving the dying cinema industry in our country. Seeing the favorable response these films receive in Pakistan, many investors are investing in this field by constructing new multiplexes. Construction of the new multiplexes is in full flow at large and small urban centers in Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad which are the major circuit of the Bollywood films.

Bollywood films in general perform very well in its opening week. But Bollywood films starring any Khan proves super successful in Pakistan. Last year on Eidul Fitr Salman Khan starer Bajrangi Bhaijan proved blockbuster and earned around 23 – 24 crores a massive figure on Pakistani box office.

Sultan-0

Due to their popularity Bollywood films are allocated maximum number of shows at premier time slots in all cinema houses and multiplexes. This Eid another Salman Khan starer Sultan is releasing and like every year it is expected to earn huge. Sultan is the based on the life of an Indian wrestler.

Urdu film
In recent years locally made Urdu films are gradually gaining foot hold at the box office. Last year two Urdu films Wrong No and Bin Roye were released on Eidul Fitr which despite allocation of few shows performed very well. Wrong No earned 15 crore and Bin Roye earned 10 crore in Pakistan. Apart from local market, success of Bin Roye was overwhelming overseas especially in UK where it earned more than the local earnings. Both Wrong No and Bin Roye were produced in Karachi.

This year again two Urdu films are lined up for release named Swaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka and Khushi. Swaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka is the only major film to be released nationwide, while Khushi is a low budget film which will only release in Punjab.

Another major film of Eid was Blind Love which is now delayed to 29th July 2017. Screening of a giant Bollywood film like Sultan leaves limited screen space for Urdu films and thus Blind Love is delayed.

Swaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka (سوال سات سو کروڑ ڈالر کا)

Swaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka (SSCDA) is an action film shot in Thailand and Pakistan. Ali Mohiuddin and Quratulain are making their debuts from this film. Ali Mohiuddin is the son of the famous film artist Ghulam Mohiuddin. The veteran artist of our films Javed Sheikh and Ghulam Mohiuddin will also be seen together in a film after a gap of many years.

Cast: Ghulam Mohiuddin,Shamoon Abbasi,Javed Sheikh,Ismail Tara,Nayyar Ejaz,Iftikhar Thakur,Ali Mohiuddin,Qurat Ul Ain,
Music:M. Arshad & Faizi Ali
Writer: Nasir Adeeb, Jamshed Jaan Muhammad
Director: Jamshed Jaan Muhammad
Producer: Shahid Qureshi
Production Company: JJ Production’s International Venture

SSCDA is directed by Jamshed Jaan Muhammad the son of (Late) Jaan Muhammad Jamman. Jaan Muhammad Jumman has directed many successful films from 1970’s to 1990’s. SSCDA is also a formula commercial film with pinches of action, romance, dances, emotions and everything required to make a formula film.

Though this film has nothing to do with the politics but its name is quite relevant to the current political scenario of our country
where the scandal of the off shore companies is leading the news.

Khushi (خوشی)
Khushi is a low budget Urdu film produced in Lahore. It will only be released in Punjab on single screen cinemas. Zeeshan Sikandar and Saima Khan are the leading artists of this film and it is directed by Shahzad Haider.

13427933_10153517511921123_401327767227022238_n

Punjabi Films
Punjabi is the largest spoken language in Pakistan. Punjabi cinema was once the life line of our film industry. However the popularity of the Punjabi cinema has almost completely faded in the last decade. Two low budget Punjabi films are releasing on this Eid. Both these films are typical gundasa/gujjar films with action, dances and loud acting.

Film:Chan Chaudhary (چن چودھری)
Cast:Shaan, Saud, Aafreen, Shafqat Cheema
Director: Shahid Rana
Producer: Qaisar Piya

Film: Haidar Gujjar (حیدر گجر)
Cast:Haider Ali, Saima Khan, Sehar Malik, Shafqat Cheema
Director: Rasheed Malik
Producer: Haider Ali

Seraiki Films
Seraiki is spoken in all four provinces of Pakistan. But its major population is concentrated in South Punjab. Seraiki films are a rarity and due to its similarity with Punjabi very few Seraiki films are produced in our country. This year however a Seraiki film Shammo Tangay Waali is releasing only in South Punjab. It will be released in major and minor cities/towns of South Punjab like Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Uch Sharif, Melsi, Muzaffar Garh, Bhakkar

2448181_2111466722

Pashto Films
Pashto is the second largest spoken language in Pakistan and has a thriving cinema too though the quality of Pashto films is considered very low. The circuit of Pashto cinema is limited but has a dedicated audience and most of the Pashto films easily recover their expenditure.

Pashto films are released in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Mardan, Noshehra, Swat), Balochistan (Quetta only) and Sindh (Karachi Only). Pashto films are also released in Afghanistan and UAE which have a large Pahsto speaking population. This Eid five Pashto films are expected to release named ganda geeri na munam, mina na minam, raja obaz, parang, bazo shehbaz.

11745463_10155769660740322_7653157412444108609_n

So it sums all the films lined up for the upcoming Eid.

Thanks for your time.

Dil Lagi – Episode 15

After watching so many episodes which were filled with scenes in which Mohid and Anmol got a chance to ‘discover’ each other, this episode seemed incomplete without those interactions and conversations. Tonight’s episode did cover Mohid and Anmol’s relationship but there was hardly any interaction between the two. Anmol’s sole mission in life right now is to make sure that Sabiha and Fazal can somehow sort things out and live a ‘normal’ life. Therefore she had very little time to play games which quite rightly seemed odd to Mohid. At the same time Dastagir’s information regarding Fareed gave him even more of a reason to question the whole situation. Mohid once again turned to Mishal for consolation but Mishal’s ‘interpretation’ of Anmol’s feelings for Mohid made him doubt what she had said earlier about Anmol’s feelings for Fareed. This particular misunderstanding was covered flawlessly. Anmol is distracted, she is not being her old self with Mohid and for once she did not use a perfect opportunity to make Mohid jealous. Mohid has no idea what is going on, all the ‘clues’ are pointing towards something he was not expecting therefore yet again he is feeling insecure. All this time when Anmol was trying so hard to make Mohid jealous, he took everything very lightly and now that she isn’t even trying, he thinks she might be planning something which will effect their relationship in a bad way.

dillagi1_Fotor

Although Dastagir and Mishal joined hands to bring Anmol and Mohid together but there is very little that they have managed to achieve so far. Dastagir’s proposal was definitely surprising and Mishal’s reply was even more so. Mishal knew all along that Dastagir liked her but I wasn’t expecting her to take this proposal so seriously. At some point Mishal must have started liking Dastagir too but till the last episode it felt like he was nothing more than a ‘Fareed’ to her who she was only associating with because she wanted to bring Mohid and Anmol together. Mishal’s reply might have been rather unexpected but it has given an interesting twist to this track. Will Dastagir actually try to do something to fulfill Mishal’s demands? Dastagir’s dialogues as usual and the acting by Imran Ashraf was the best part of this episode.

Saba Hameed was scary tonight as the ama with a very bruised ego who did not like it when she was not in control! The scenes with her and Sabiha in them were seriously upsetting. She thinks she is doing what is best for her daughter but this time around she crossed the line. Unfortunately, she has very little respect for what her daughter wants. She made Sabiha leave her husband because he did not respect her but now she is the one who is proving through her actions that she has absolutely no respect for her daughter’s feeling. She can easily find Fazal if she asks Mohid to help her but she intends to stick to her unreasonable decision no matter what. Also, the fact that she hid Sabiha’s phone goes to show that she does not want Fazal to get in touch with her either. Sabiha’s crying started getting to me after a while, although it was justified in her situation but even then in a drama with so many strong women Sabiha’s character is sticking out like a sore thumb! Fazal’s character is equally weak and the acting isn’t very impressive either.

dillagi2_Fotor

Just like every other episode of Dil Lagi, this one too was visually pleasing. The attention to detail and the use of beautiful colors makes every scene a treat to watch. Anmol’s character for once was very likeable in this episode and definitely more refreshing too since her positive and helpful attitude made this episode less depressing. Otherwise Ama’s unreasonable attitude, Sabiha’s helplessness and Mohid’s depression would have made this episode very sad. Mehwish Hayat has proved in this serial that she is incredibly talented, she is very well suited for this role. Her acting is always effortless and natural. Hamayun Saeed once again made it very easy for me to connect to his character. I felt for Mohid every step of the way. There are very few male leads which make you feel that way; the credit for this goes to the writer as well for etching out a character which is so likeable. Mohid’s dialogues are always heart touching. “Mohabbat insan ko buhat kamzor, wehmi aur buzdil bana deti hai” had to be my favorite dialogue from this episode because it summed up the change in Mohib’s character brilliantly.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Do share your thoughts about it.

Nadia Jamil On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Yayayayay! Nadia Jamil is one of my favourite actresses and seeing her on the show was an absolute delight! I loved the intro where Sarmad Khoosat called her ‘mast malang’ – mood hota hai tou kaam karti hain, warna nahe karteen. This episode kind of made up for the past few boring episodes. Also, Nadia Jamil looked fresh and beautiful! :)

It was interesting to see how very passionate Nadia Jamil is about food and I think out of all the guests we have seen on the show, she was most the most enthusiastic about the dishes being prepared in the kitchen. ”Mere zindagi mein teen hi ishq hain: acha khana, bachay aur puppies.” I think Durr-e-Shahwar was the last drama that she appeared in. I really appreciate the fact that Nadia Jamil is very selective about her work and I am glad that she doesn’t settle for projects not worth her time. She does a lot of theatre plays, though, and loves working with children. Nadia Jamil herself is quite an interesting person; I really liked the idea of The Empty Place, which is basically a place where she unleashes her inner child and does whatever she feels like.

13533307_1097929620253438_2893250272077321833_n

I like when Sarmad Khoosat asks his guests the one thing they want people to learn in the blessed month of Ramadan. Nadia Jamil talked about patience and tolerance of people’s opinions, which I believe, is the most important kind of tolerance.

Sarmad Khoosat prepared Hummus and Beetroot Salad.

Mathira On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Yep, Mathira. Or, I should say, Innocent Mathira, because I am not kidding when I say that out of all the words (confident, vivacious) Sarmad could have used to praise Mathira, he decided to go for innocent and not once, but twice did he say that he admires Mathira for her masoomiat. What’s more, he said it with a straight face. But khair, it’s not like we know Mathira in person…

This is going to be a veryyy brief write-up (I wouldn’t even call it a review) because not much happened in this episode that I could discuss in detail. Mathira looked nice, though, and shared a bit about her Zimbabwean roots, which was kinda interesting to learn about. Mathira mentioned that her mother is an international chef. She also announced that her film, Blind Love will be released on Eid.

Sarmad prepared two foreign dishes and their names were umm not easy to pronounce or remember. Sorry…

I hope that in the next episode, we get to see an actor whose work we actually follow.

Sheheryar Munawar & Syra Shahroz Pair Up for Movie Ghazi

0

After Ho Mann Jahan, Sheheryar Munawar will be seen in Nadir Shah’s directorial debut, Ghazi. Syra Yusuf shared the screen with Sheheryar Munawar in the last few minutes of Ho Mann Jahan for the song, Shakar Wanda.
Apart from these two, the cast includes Humayun Saeed, Aamir Qureshi and the veteran actor Talat Hussain.

Speaking about Ghazi, Sheheryaar revealed, ‘‘Project Ghazi is basically an action film, but has nothing to do with anti-terrorism and doesn’t campaign against India. As an artist, we have a social responsibility to reduce negativity and with Project Ghazi we are playing on metaphors, but have stayed away from controversies. There’s no point in adding hate.”

“The film does have a nationalistic sentiment, but in a whole new light. I believe it’s something along the lines of The Bourne Identity.”

The shooting of the film continues in the hill stations of Northern Pakistan. Let’s see how this turns out.

Sadia Khan May Act Opposite Akshay Kumar

0

Last week, Maya Ali and Sadia Khan were spotted in India. According to Maya Ali, the two were approached for the same role.

Talking to Dawn Images, Sadia Khan revealed that they were approached by Lyca Productions, which happens to be the same company that made [the Tamil version of] Ghajini.
Sadia revealed that she is in talks for the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar in film Ikka, which is said to be a remake of a popular Tamil movie. It revolves around two lookalikes and focuses on farmers’ suicide due to corporate encroachment.

Earlier on, there were reports suggesting that Sadia was auditioning only for a song, but Sadia corrected, “It’s not a song, but a whole film. I’ve read the script, and the role offered is fantastic.”

When asked if Maya has turned down the offer, Sadia answered, “It’s too early to answer that since the talks are still in progress.”

Sanam Baloch is one of the most well-loved actresses of the industry. She has given us some stellar performances in the past; she was flawless as Kiran in Kankar, we loved her in Durr-e-Shahwar and the best of all, her power-packed performance in Dastaan is unforgettable.
Fans have been waiting for their favourite actress to return to the screens, and good news for them: the wait is over!

In an interview with Express Tribune, Sanam Baloch revealed that we’ll be seeing her in a short film directed by the brilliant Sarmad Khoosat and penned by a writer who fails to disappoint – Umera Ahmed. The film pays tribute to Marium Mukhtar, the first female fighter pilot of Pakistan to die in the line of duty. Marium Mukhtar died after a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) FT-7PG aircraft crashed near Kundian in Mianwali District in the northwest of Punjab, Pakistan on November 24, 2015. “When I came to know it’s about Marium Mukhtar and I had to portray her, I decided I have to do it no matter what, although I was in talks with someone else as well for July.”

Sanam admits that she always gets nervous about working on a new project and this time, she is nervous and excited at the same time because the role is quite challenging. “I’m very nervous. I’m always nervous about every project I sign. I always leave my work to the Almighty with a prayer that He will look into it. This time I’m extra nervous since it’s going to be my appearance after so long. This particular short film is going to be very challenging for me. I’ll have to live the life of someone extraordinary.”

Sanam Baloch is not only a fine actress but is also very selective about her projects. “There are good dramas being aired these days but there are not much of them as they used to be. I’ve gone through a lot of scripts in this time but there was nothing that really appealed to me.”

san

With her hosting a morning show, the schedule gets a bit hectic. “Due to the tight schedule, it gets pretty hard for me to sign any serial or anything. A few days back, Fahad Mustafa announced on his show that we both are doing a serial together. Although he has announced, but I’m pretty worried how I’m going to manage it all. Sometimes it’s extremely stressful and tiring for me.”

Sanam Baloch has fans across the border and one of them happens to be Indian actress Vidya Balan who raved about her acting in Kankar. “I was indeed honoured. Who doesn’t like being praised for the hard work they’ve done? She is such a versatile actor. If it would’ve been someone else, I would’ve still been happy, but then again it was Vidya Balan and that charm was altogether something else for me. It takes a lot of courage to praise someone; it is not easy to get appreciation in this industry, especially by bigger names. It’s a very nice gesture from her side.”

Sanam Baloch believes, and rightly so, that actors need to take a break so that they don’t lose their charm. ”Isn’t it good if people are eagerly waiting to see you? They get bored sometimes seeing the same faces on every channel – in every drama serial. I think a break is pretty important. I have a couple of offers but I would not like to delve much into it. Let’s see how things work out.”

Aiman Khan is fast becoming a favorite of young drama watching viewers. She is liked for her natural beauty, talent and simple nature. Aiman Khan lost a lot of weight lately because of which she is more in demand. She has been seen in many popular dramas in recent times. Sometimes she has played the lead role and at other times she was seen playing an important supporting character. Aiman Khan hasn’t endorsed many products in her career but this time she is not only a part of Elmore Fairness Cream ad campaign but she also made a special video in which she asked her fans to use the cream to have fair flawless skin.

Aiman is naturally fair and many girls her age who want to have fair and flawless skin admire her skin color and texture so she is the perfect model to endorse this cream. Mein Sitara – Episode 15

Wow!!! What an episode! Simply mind blowing! This was an extremely intense episode and the kind of effect such an episode has on you, can only be felt and not explained in words! I will nevertheless try my best to do justice to this amazing episode. This episode was all about the desperation of two people who are in love. Farhad and Sitara both are equally desperate, the only difference is that Farhad desperately wants Sitara to admit that she loves him and that she will eventually get married to him, while Sitara is equally desperate to convince him that she feels absolutely nothing for him. Sitara’s impulsive decision to get married to Jamal went to show just how desperate she was to get out of this situation and rightly so too. Unfortunately, she chose a man who will never be able to do anything to help her, a reality which hit her soon after the news of the nikkah was made public.

This episode belonged to Farhad – Mikaal Zulfiqar. Farhad has absolutely no control over his feelings, his reaction to the news was shown superbly, it was a mixture of disbelief and helplessness. The way Farhad pleaded his case in front of Sitara and the manner in which Sitara kept on telling him lies was the best part of this episode. Jharna stood in the door way and listened in disbelief, everything must have made more sense to her now!! It was truly refreshing to watch Sitara sticking to her plans, although she did not take the best decision but she did the best she could in order to make sure that Farhad is not in a position to pressurize her into getting married to him. Sitara proved that she was a strong person who knew what she needed to do and even though she truly was attracted to Farhad but it was her relationship with Jharna which mattered the most to her. The sizzling chemistry between Saba Qamar and Mikaal Zulfiqar makes everything about their track even more intense. Saba Qamar has owned her role as Sitara in every single episode. She manages to convey Sitara’s helplessness and her real feelings which are hiding behind those lies flawlessly.

ms2

Another thing about this drama which I absolutely love is the strong relationship between two women which is bound to stand the test of time. Very often we see bromance on screen, there are also times (rarely) when mother and daughter or sisters have a strong bond but it isn’t very often that we see a drama which is largely based on the relationship which two women who are not even blood relatives have with each other. There was a time when it seemed like Sitara was going to betray Jharna but she has proved that she was not going to let anyone destroy their relationship and the trust Jharna has on Sitara. Aisha Gul is another actress who has been faultless as Jharna. She is standing out in this role more than she has ever before in any other character.

Jamal and Naseem Dil Ruba’s track is the reason why Jamal agreed to Sitara’s proposal but even then this track was completely relegated to the background tonight because of everything that happened in Sitara, Jharna and Farhad’s life in this episode.

The preview of the next episode suggested that there might be an even bigger surprise in store for the viewers! Will Jharna ask Sitara to marry Farhad? Farhad once said that if Jharna ever found out how much he loved Sitara, she was bound to support him…was he right? I hope no one gets killed! That would be really ugly.

Mein Sitara has given its viewers 15 amazing weeks of wholesome entertainment. It has it all – a script which keeps you at the edge of your seat, characters which you can fall in and out of love with but you cannot detach yourself from them, riveting performances and superb direction. The best aspect of Mein Sitara’s script is that the viewers are not tempted to ‘judge’ the characters very often. Every character’s story and feelings have been translated so well on screen that you understand their characters and actions without even trying. Mein Sitara’s success is the result of team effort, this script is very different and if the director lacked creativity or did not have vision this drama could have been a train wreck but fortunately the writer and the director were on the same page therefore the end product is outstanding. I have recommended this drama to many people but once more I would like to ask anyone who is not watching this show to give it a go, you won’t be disappointed especially if you are tired of watching the same old stories.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Do share your thoughts about it.

Deewana – Episode 13 & 14!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Deewana were quite interesting but I must say I enjoyed watching the first episode of the week a lot more than the one that just finished airing because it had some interesting developments & some comic scenes too, where as this episode was quite dull with an exception of a couple of scenes.

So, Haris revealed his true colors & he confessed that he doesn’t love Mehru at all. His strong denial can also mean that he still loves her but is too ashamed to face her, that’s why he has accepted the fact that hating Mehru is the only option left which is right too. Looks like Haris was just putting up an act of being miserable in front of his parents so that they will allow him to get married to Kashaf but then what more can you expect from a guy who grew up under the supervision of such a negative couple, who before doing any favors upon the child made sure to let him know where he comes from. Haris had to become bitter & negative because that’s the environment he grew up in. Well, the conversation Haris & Amtul had was very interesting, it went to show how Haris knew what he should say that will satisfy Amtul & will make her believe that Haris was on their side. The things Haris said about women being nothing more than a piece of possession only went to show the mentality that Amtul & Tabrez have instilled in him, Haris knows that Amtul & Tabrez are making him payback all the favors they did on him by taking away his right to live a free life, that’s why he has developed this urge to control at least someone & he sees Kashaf as a soft target. He may or may not love Kashaf but he most certainly wants to control her in order to feel that even a helpless guy like him has an authority over someone. It is sad but Haris has started lying to everyone & may be himself too, he has lied to Kashaf about how Mehru was only his fiancé, he lied to Amtul by saying that he hasn’t told Kashaf that Amtul & Tabrez aren’t his biological parents & then he lied to himself that he hates Mehru because if he would’ve hated her, he would’ve never told his friend to spy on her just to find out what is happening in her life, it does show that he holds himself responsible for destroying her life but now when he knows that he can not undo anything, he is going to stick to the plan that Tabrez has devised for Subhan’s family.

I must say, I do understand Shama’s problems & her pain is not a secret but her incessant blaming & taunting gets tedious to watch. Why can’t she understand that Subhan & Mehru have suffered just as much pain as she has suffered, because if she will realize it, she will stop being so harsh with them. Mehru has seen the love of her life destroying everything & crushing her dreams, Subhan has suffered the death of his son too, so what makes Shama think that she has an upper-hand on them because she has suffered more. I think Shama needs to snap out of the self-pity & should come to a closure because more than anyone else, she’s the one who needs it the most.

Husn Ara finally decided to meet Shama & introduce herself. Their meeting was interesting but what I liked the most was the way Husn Ara treated Chanda Bee & formed a connection with her on the basis of respect. It was imperative that Shama grew suspicious of Husn Ara by judging her appearance & personality but the remark she made about Husn Ara being an immoral & immodest woman was a bit too much. I don’t know why but my dislike for Shama’s character is growing more & more with each passing episode & I most certainly agree with Falak that Shama talks way too much because just like Falak, even I was having a hard time listening to her never-ending rants!

So, Mehru wants Falak to go to Lahore & find out about Haris. She really needs to get her act together because Haris is not coming back to her. I guess even if Falak will find out about Haris’s intentions & even if he will inform Mehru about it, she will not believe in what she’ll hear so it’s better if Mehru sorts this thing on her own because only witnessing everything herself will make her believe that Haris & Mehru aren’t meant to be. Mehru has started throwing hissy fits & I guess she needs a closure too. She acts normal & all of a sudden goes into depression & does something weird that makes you question her mental stability. I do understand that she has gone through a heart-break & hasn’t recovered from it till date but then she is not making any efforts too, which I think is wrong. I wish that the writer makes her come out of her misery as soon as possible because it’s no fun watching a damsel in distress every single week. The scene where she sits on a bed covered with her wedding veil & with a face full of makeup was actually quite scary, that sudden & random outburst actually made no sense & what didn’t make more sense was Shama’s verdict on that situation where she was sure that Mehru must’ve hung herself & she kept on telling Subhan to prepare himself for the worst, like seriously, what sort of a mother is she?

Anyways, I enjoyed the scenes that Falak & Mehru shared. Falak is making sure to go out of his way to make Mehru & her father happy but I guess he is not realizing that he has started doing things that are unusual or things that humans are not used to. Falak gets carried away & that is why he forgets that he has an image to protect & a secret to hide. He fixed the balloon without thinking that Mehru might notice it & he also told her that Shama was approaching them without being bothered that Mehru might end up asking how he found out about it. Husn Ara has time & again reminded him that he needs to be extra careful when he is around human beings but he doesn’t care & I guess he will end up exposing himself pretty soon. Also, it looks like Falak has found it in his heart to please Gaiti as well that is why he took a dessert to her place out of the blue. I must say that I had a good laugh at how the spy sent by Haris was down with fever because he came in contact with Falak but I feel Falak should’ve found out about his intentions the moment he shook hands with him but he didn’t, well never-mind, I am sure that fever was enough to keep the spy out of bound for the rest of his life.

Overall, these episodes were pretty good but I liked the previous episode better because the revelation about Haris was interesting & something new. All the actors have done a pretty good job but I must say the chemistry that Iqra Aziz & Shehroz Sabzwari have created between the characters of Falak & Mehru is amazing. Also, I think Anita Campher stands out the most as Chanda Bee & like I have said before that despite having very limited scenes, she makes sure to leave an impact, which is great. I really am looking forward to the bonding that Husn Ara & Chanda Bee will share & I must say the last scene of this episode was quite heart-warming where Chanda Bee tried to make Shama understand how she needs to treat Mehru & understand her pains too, it was about time that someone said that to Shama & I am glad that Chanda Bee did the honors. Like I said before, it looks like Chanda Bee understands & feels for Mehru more than her mother does, which is quite sweet. The direction has been great too & there aren’t much loopholes in the story so far. Yes, it is a very small mistake but Mehru ended up calling Adam Falak in the last scene of the previous episode, whereas Adam hasn’t told Mehru that his real name is Falak, I wish the director or the actors themselves take care of such minor things but apart from that, the drama on the whole is great & it has been directed really really well & also, before concluding the review, I will commend the people behind the camerawork of this drama because different angles & shots make it a visual treat & add more depth to the situations. I can’t wait to find out more do they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about these two episode of Deewana. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

No words can describe the shock and grief at Amjad Sabri’s sad demise. Yesterday, we lost an incredibly sincere and humble man who touched the lives of many with his soul-stirring qawwalis that will long stay with us.

Just a few weeks back, the list of the artists set to appear in Coke Studio Season 9 was revealed, and fans were anticipating Amjad Sabri’s Coke Studio debut. Amjad Sabri collaborated with Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to sing the famous and well-loved qawwali, Aaj Rang Hai. Last month, Amjad Sabri had talked fondly of his collaboration with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, “About 40 years ago, my father and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan read this kalaam at a dargah in Karachi and 40 years later, Rahat and I are reading it again [on Coke Studio Season 9].”

It is produced by one of the six producers, Shani Arshad. Talking to Express Tribune, Shani voiced his shock and grief at Amjad Sabri’s death. “To me his death comes as an even greater shock because I had only recently worked with him on the qawwali for Coke Studio.”

“I think it will be a fitting tribute for Amjad Sabri and a great surprise for his fans as he’s done a remarkable job on the single.”

String, the mentors of Season 9, said, “The tragic death of Amjad Sabri is a huge national loss. In spite of his great success nationally and internationally, he was a gentle and humble person, treasured and respected by everyone who met him.”

A production crew member revealed, “Unlike majority of the artistes, Amjad and Rahat did not require multiple takes to nail the track. They recorded the song in one go instead.”

This will be a fitting tribute to Amjad Sabri and a fine way to bid farewell to the legend. Amjad Sabri will be dearly missed.
