Nadia Afghan On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

I love Nadia Afghan for her screen presence, confidence, versatility and perfect comedic timing. It’s been eighteen years since Nadia Afghan first appeared as a heroine in Sarmad’s first drama, and honestly, I had no idea that they go way back.

Again, this was one of those episodes where the focus was on the dish being prepared and not on the guest, because of which it got a bit boring. Sarmad made Dahi Baray coupled with Lemonade. It was interesting that in this episode, Nadia Afghan’s niece joined them and made pancakes.

Tum Kon Piya – Episode 14

Elma’s father finally decided to put his foot down, Sunbal started ‘questioning’ Ramish like a typical fiancé, Zarbab decided it was time to give Elma a break, Javeria continued to pretend like Zarbab wasn’t married and the episode ended with the scene everyone was looking forward to the most! Sharafat Begum’s typical zalim saas behaviour got plenty of screen time yet again in this latest episode. The writer has managed to send the message across loud and clear therefore showing more of Sharaft Begum’s unreasonable attitude towards her bahu is making this particular track extremely monotonous. It would be nice if Sharafat Begum did not get so much screen time and didn’t have so many dialogues in every episode. She is a zalim saas who will never respect or love Elma – point taken and noted – can we please move forward now!

Zarbab clearly felt for his wife therefore he decided to give her sisters a call but he did not feel for her enough to take a stand for her in front of his mother. It was however good to see Waqar Ali saying the obvious – Elma was still his daughter and nothing could change that. The scene in which all these sisters were lying in the same bed with their father was really cute, went to show how close they all were and how different they were from Zarbab’s family. Elma hasn’t been to the doctor yet, something which I hope will be taken care of soon!! Zarbab supported Elma when her father came to pick her but at the same time he made sure he gave his mother a good ‘explanation’ for letting her go so that his mother did not feel insecure. The difference between the kind of life Elma has in her father’s house and the one she has in her new house was highlighted yet again. After every meeting with Sharaft Begum Elma’s father is even more convinced that he made the wrong decision for her daughter.

tkp1

Ramish was shown preparing for his wedding but like he said earlier this is merely something which he is doing to please his parents and his heart is not in this decision. Sunbal questioned about Elma for the first time and now that she knows Ramish is going to be her husband, she is more interested in what is going on in his mind and would naturally want some things her way too once they get married. It is sad to see someone like Ramish who was so passionate about his likes and dislikes giving up like this.

tkp2

Unfortunately, this episode did not have anything new to offer. While all the tracks were covered in this episode, the story is moving forward at a very slow pace. Most of the conversations revolve around shadi shuda zindagi and every conversation in Elma’s house revolves around her life after she got married. It is impossible to find flaws in the story, the direction, acting and production values are top-notch too but the must-watch factor was completely missing from this episode. It is time to add something brand new to the story, these conversations revolving around life before and after marriage and Sharafat begum’s never-ending rants are getting monotonous.

The preview of the next episode showed more of the same! How many of you watched this latest installment? Do share your thoughts about it.

Besharam – Episode 07!

Ohkay so, seems like they took the things forward slowly in this episode but I don’t mind considering how all the previous episodes were so fast-paced, I was expected that things will slow down a bit at a certain stage, which is perfectly alright because the drama in itself is so interesting that the pace doesn’t matter much for now.

Khadija is quite naive I believe, just because she assumed that sending Mishal away will solve all her problems, she didn’t think for a second before taking that decision. I am not sure if Khadija is simple-minded or she can’t put two & two together. After all the Sikandar’s family has done, why does Khadija believe that she can make things work & she can save Humna’s engagement with Qadeer? Haider has quite a lot of times told Khadija about Sikandar & his intentions but she doesn’t trust her own son & thinks she is bound to follow the orders & instructions of Sikandar. Even after Haider told it clearly to Khadija that sending Mishal away won’t guarantee Humna’s happiness because Sikandar’s main issue was the rejection of Saba by Haider, Khadija still thought she will finally be able to convince Sikandar because it was his demand that Haider should send Mishal away & divorce her. It was good that despite everything that Khadija did, Sikandar & Shakira didn’t budge, at least it will serve as an eye-opener to Khadija that no matter what she’ll do, nothing will be enough to please Sikandar’s family as they were inconsiderate & selfish right from the start. Even though being a mother of a daughter, Khadija wants to do everything to make sure no one raises a finger at Humna, at times I feel she ignores Haider & doesn’t take his decisions seriously just because she thinks he’s a guy & he is responsible for his own baggage, that is why I believe that Khadija didn’t think things through & didn’t allow herself to accept Mishal because she saw her as someone who was costing Humna her engagement. I hope Khadija finds it in her heart to trust Haider & accept his decisions too because so far, she has only been concerned about Humna & then Sikandar’s family & their decisions.

Qadeer found it hard to return his ring to Humna but he didn’t have the guts to take a stand for her. Haider has time & again told Humna that Qadeer is not an ideal person for her because he can not & he will not stand by her through thick & thin but just because she has been engaged to him for quite a while now, Humna thinks she can not get married to anyone else. All the things that Sikandar & his family have done so far should be enough of a reality check for Humna & Khadija that having a relationship with Sikandar’s family will always cause problems for them but looks like they are not willing to understand such a simple thing.

Wahab (Malik Raza) finally made an entry & now we all know why Sofia thinks she can not relate to him & why she told her mother that their mental wavelength doesn’t match. Even though Wahab looked more like a caricature but I enjoyed watching his scenes because he added a comic relief to the dull scenes of Sara & Sofia. Wahab is a businessman who is pretty happy with how his life has turned out to be, he loves his wife & doesn’t mind getting insulted by his wife & mother-in-law because he treats them as their family. I loved the way he teased Mishal by taking her husband’s name as if he was Mishal’s saheli, lol. Well, Mishal returned & she got the exact treatment she was expecting, Sara wasn’t thrilled with what Mishal has done & she didn’t hold back in telling her how wrong her decision of getting married to Haider was. Mishal is actually done dealing with her mother because sadly, her mother hasn’t set a good example for her daughters, that is why Mishal finds it hard to respect her mother’s opinions regarding relationships.

Mishal has found it in her heart to give this marriage a chance, that is why even after she returned to her home, she couldn’t stop thinking about Haider, his family & his home. Throughout her life Mishal has missed real relationships, relationships that are not complicated & she has also missed the presence of someone who will listen to her & take care of her like a responsible person because all her life, Mishal has taken care of everyone around her & that is why she now feels the need to be with someone who will do what she has done for others & may be its because she can see that Haider is exactly the sort of a person who can do that & be in charge of their lives, she doesn’t mind doing what he tells her to do.

Haider is a man of his word & that is why he was shocked to see Mishal going back to her life & resuming her routine job. Just like Mishal, Haider wants to give this marriage a chance too, he wants to give Mishal the respect she deserves & he wants to elevate her status by giving her the rights of being his wife, that is why he didn’t think twice before walking on the ramp & dragging her out of that fashion show which was quite dramatic & the bit that I enjoyed the most. Haider knows that his mother will find it hard to accept Mishal but he doesn’t believe in complications that is why he honestly told Mishal that even though Khadija isn’t happy with their decision, she will find it in her heart to accept it soon enough. Mishal also can see that Haider is struggling just like she is struggling too but she has this faith in him because she sees him as an honest person who will fulfill the promise that he has made to her.

The meeting of Sara & Haider was intense. Sara didn’t hold back for a second & gave Haider a piece of her mind. She thinks Haider got married to Mishal because he saw that she was a successful model & earned really well, whereas these things never really crossed Haider’s mind because it doesn’t matter to him. It was good to see that Mishal took a stand for Haider too & she has this sense of responsibility where she knows that even she has the heart to fulfill the promise of togetherness she has made to Haider by getting married to him. Even though Haider & Mishal haven’t really spoken about their relationship as they didn’t get a fair chance so far, I really liked seeing them as a husband & wife. Finally, Haider brought Mishal to his home & without beating around the bush he told his mother straight away that she will be living with him from now on because she happens to be his wife. Even though Mishal & Haider haven’t had the time to speak about their relationship, I still found some sort of understanding between them where Mishal understood the way Haider’s mind works & Haider knew that Mishal was ready to give this marriage a chance because she was being submissive right from the beginning.

Overall, it was a pretty decent episode of Besharam & I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I am sure Haider & Mishal will have to face some challenges but I am interested to find out how they will overcome all such obstacles & how they will form an understanding under such circumstances. It is needless to say but the direction & the acting has been top-notch. The director has given a very nice treatment to the script that is why it seems so visually appeasing & I loved the look that Saba Qamar was carrying during her ramp walk, because it added more charm to the the following scene with Haider in which she looked like a runaway bride, haha. Anyways, I enjoyed watching this episode & I am assuming you guys did too, so please share your thoughts about this episode of Besharam.

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 15!

Ohkay so, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode of Zara Yaad Kar & I guess for me, after a very long time, this was one of the finest episode of this drama because the portrayal of human emotions was realistic & top-notch. Each & everything that all the characters said actually showed how the thought process of the humans work in different circumstances & this is what I enjoyed watching the most.

Uzma has gotten a green signal from her father that he wouldn’t mind seeing Haadi as her life partner because he knows that in Mahnoor-Haadi divorce, Haadi was the sincere one & he was a truthful person. Uzma obviously didn’t get her hopes high because even though she still loves Haadi, she thinks of it as her mistake & she also believes that there are a lot of emotional hurdles in between that both of them will have to overcome if they decide to be with each other. Uzma is trying hard to maintain a distance from Haadi but the conversation with her father did make her a little hopeful, that’s why when she opened the door for Haadi, she had a smile on her face only to find out that her fears were being confirmed. What Haadi told Uzma was something she knew could happen but it disturbed her a great deal because Uzma as a girl herself can not wrap her head around the mentality of a girl like Mahnoor. Uzma knew that Haadi was now getting confused & even though he was heart-broken, all these gestures that he was doing for Mahnoor unconsciously & unwillingly only told a story of how much he still loved her. Uzma told Haadi to forgive Mahnoor because she knew that may be this is exactly what Haadi wanted to hear too but had no courage to bring himself to that point where he’d accept that may be forgiving Mahnoor & giving her a second chance was an option too. Even though, everything that was said was subtle but I so wish the word ‘halala’ wasn’t thrown away so casually. I most certainly expected a little better from Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, since his dialogues are the best part about his scripts & they make quite an impact, so I wish he hadn’t taken the conversation that further. The point that Uzma made about forgiving Mahnoor was enough & quite elaborate, so I didn’t see the point of throwing a light on that word because it isn’t as simple of a deal that our writers these days make it look like because in reality it is more like a punishment for both the husband & wife who part their ways without thinking things through & understanding the gravity of the situation.

Well, Waqar finally showed what he is made of. I am sure if Gaiti wouldn’t have come into the picture & if she hadn’t given him the edge, he would’ve never uttered those things about Mahnoor that he as a matter of factly said. For Waqar, Mahnoor was a respectable girl & this is exactly the word that he threw at her in their first meeting to impress her but now times have changed & the same girl, who he wanted is not respectable anymore because she dumped her husband for him. Waqar is not wrong in his perspective because this is exactly how the human psyche works. The moment someone finds a better option, they start nitpicking & looking for the negatives in the options they first considered & this is exactly what Waqar is doing. He never was in love with Mahnoor, he was just infatuated with her & found her attractive, that is why he tried his luck at her & Mahnoor being mentally shallow fell for it, which she’ll face the brunt for & rightly so.

Well, talking about Mahnoor, she surely is one desperate girl whose only motive in life is to have a guy around her all the time. She didn’t like the one who treated her as a center of his universe, so she shooed him away & fell for someone she thought was perfect in every aspect but now when he’s gone, she is considering getting back to the one she was with initially. Mahnoor really doesn’t understand how she has ruined hers & Haadi’s life that is why she is taking their divorce as a joke & thinks that a single apology will fix everything & things will become normal between her & Haadi. Mahnoor is shallow, that is why ever since she has heard from Waqar that he will need 2 months more to return, she has now made it her mission to fix things with Haadi before Waqar’s return so that she doesn’t see a pity in his eyes for her & she can show it to him that things in her life are normal as well. Mahnoor knows that her mother will never allow her to disturb Haadi & play with his feelings again, that is why she thought it was a better idea to go in the absence of Aneesa.

The entire scenario where Mahnoor went to Haadi & Uzma’s place was done really well. Haadi was shocked as he couldn’t believe how shallow Mahnoor can be that just a couple of free rides are enough for her to change her mind. It actually took her couple of rides from Waqar to believe that he was the one & now similarly after being with Haadi twice made her realize that she couldn’t be without him. It was so obvious that Mahnoor was eager to earn Haadi’s apology only but to put up an act & to add more weight to her apology, she thought she will become friends with Uzma too, just to show to Haadi that Mahnoor was ready to make a change in her thinking & in her attitude. Even though Uzma had told Haadi that he should forgive Mahnoor & even though after that conversation with Uzma, Haadi did realize that he hasn’t fallen out of love with Mahnoor, he still couldn’t believe how inconsiderate Mahnoor was being by expecting a forgiveness from him after putting him through so much. Mahnoor really hasn’t understood what she has done with her life that is why she didn’t seem concerned with what might happen in the future. Right now, she wanted a validation from Haadi & a security that all of a sudden went missing from her life after Haadi divorced her, that is why she persuaded Haadi to give her what she wanted as she couldn’t imagine her life without it & she wasn’t used to it too.

The meeting between Uzma & Mahnoor was covered nicely too. It was so obvious that Mahnoor couldn’t tolerate Uzma’s presence but just because she had to score some points in front of Haadi, she was ready to put up an act of being pally with Uzma. All Mahnoor had was a detest for Uzma in her eyes but she didn’t mind resorting to hypocrisy just to show to Haadi that she has changed & she didn’t mind sharing an equation with Uzma despite knowing that she loved Haadi. It was quite interesting to see the girls sharing a space & sharing a conversation over the guy they both were in love with. Uzma was putting up an act too by being happy & composed but she was doing that in order to hide the hurt she was feeling in her heart after finding out that Mahnoor hasn’t given up on Haadi yet.

Overall, it was a very interesting episode & I enjoyed watching it a lot. I loved how this time around, their expressions were enough to show the thoughts that were running through their minds. I must say I loved the acting of all three actors but Sana Javed takes the cake for showcasing Mahnoor’s hypocrisy so effortlessly. I loved how she made it obvious that Mahnoor hated being around Uzma but had to paste a smile on her face to cover up the feeling of disgust & detest she had towards her. Zahid Ahmed is good as Haadi & so is Yumna Zaidi as Uzma. I loved the expressions of Uzma when she is standing in the kitchen making coffee for Mahnoor & smiling at herself for carrying a facade in front of Mahnoor to hide her little secret that Mahnoor’s presence was hurting her. There were a couple of dialogues that were amazing too & all the conversations in general were written brilliantly. For the first time I can say that I am looking forward to what is yet to come. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Saba Qamar’s Latest Interview

Saba Qamar is one of the most talented and confident actresses in the industry. Currently, viewers are all praises for her acting in TVOne’s Main Sitara and ARY’s Besharam. She will be making her Bollywood debut with Saket Chaudhary’s Hindi Medium alongside Irrfan Khan.

In a recent interview with Express Tribune, Saba Qamar shared more about her debut project in India. Qamar shared she is both excited and nervous. Qamar will head to Mumbai next month and will work on the film until October.

“Actors here need to try out different roles and not the same ones. Look at the Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone. She has starred in so many diverse roles.”

images-28

Saba Qamar voiced some concerns about Pakistani film and drama industry. “I don’t understand why actors in our country do not work on their given characters. Their energy levels are so low and their workmanship is not good either. One should be passionate about their work. We need to let go of our egos and work tirelessly.”

She admires the dedication of Bollywood actors. “Pakistani actors are not interested in rehearsing their roles again and again. Vidya Balan attended a 12-day workshop for her role in a previous project. Alia Bhatt underwent a 30-day workshop for Udta Punjab as well.”

Even though she is busy with her Bollywood project, she is working on her projects in Pakistan with equal enthusiasm. “Some parts need to be dubbed for Lahore Se Aagey. Besides that, I am busy recording the last episode of Besharam as well.”

Talking about her character in Lahore Se Aagay, Saba shared, ”This girl is full of life and is a rock star. It is something I have never done before. I have worked very hard and given my best shot in terms of learning from different experiences and outdoor shooting.I went along the lines of the director who wanted my loud energy to be there and that is exactly how I have enacted my role.”

According to Saba Qamar, the script for Lahore Se Aage is stronger than its predecessor, Karachi Se Lahore. ”This script is much better than the previous script. From the cameo performances to the lead actors, everyone has worked really hard on the sets.”

Ushna Shah On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Ushna Shah was welcomed to the show today. Honestly, I had no idea that Ushna comes from a family that’s associated with the industry. The very graceful and talented Irsa Ghazal is her sister, her brother has played an important part in the revival of theatre, and Sarmad also revealed that his mother is good friends with Ushna’s mother, Ismat, because the two worked together on radio.

About her upcoming film, Teri Meri Love Story, Ushna shared that it’s a romantic comedy flick. She also shared that the film has a great soundtrack, with four good songs. Sarmad spoke highly of Jawad Bashir, the director and writer of TMLS, because he introduced him to the field and Sarmad made his TV debut with Jawad Bashir’s drama.

FB_IMG_1466443842147

I like what Ushna said about empathy and how all of us should develop empathy not only towards the underprivileged but towards every single person from every section of the society.

Today, we saw Sarmad making Italian, coupled with a refreshing pineapple drink.

Ushna looked really pretty today.

Mann Mayal – Episode 22

This episode just like all the previous ones was filled with run-of-the-mill dialogues and situations which reminded me of drama serial Shukk. Yet again we are watching a situation in which two women want a man (yes whether Mannu says it or not she actually wants/needs Salahuddin more than Januni Jeena!) and the (super) man in this love triangle doesn’t know how to use his ‘super powers’! Ayesha Khan yet again plays the role of a woman who is not wanted or needed but still like many other women in our dramas who have everything else except self-respect, Jeena continued trying to pressurize Salahuddin into marrying her like that would make him respect her or love her. The “mein khana paka sakti hu, office mei kaam kr sakti hu” dialogue was the most lame one we have heard so far!

mm1

This episode was just plain ridiculous! The first and the biggest flaw in the story is Mannu’s forced presence in Salahuddin’s house. Secondly, Mannu’s attitude throughout this episode was absurd to say the least! Abba’s illness is another unwanted sad development in the story which is nothing more than a desperate attempt to make the viewers feel for Mannu even more! Jeena’s desperation and Salahuddin’s ‘helplessness’ both were equally annoying tonight.

mm4

Mikael is completely out of the picture for now, not that I missed him and even though Mannu keeps on telling Salahuddin she does not want him around but somehow she could not travel by air alone without taking Salahuddin with her. If Mannu really wanted to take a stand, she should have taken a stand here. She knows that she ‘owns’ Salahuddin and she can ‘use’ him any way she wants since he is somehow responsible for all her troubles.

mm2

Unfortunately, Mannu has changed into a pathetic character who is continuously making a fool out of herself. Jeena of course is giving her tough competition therefore we have a man who put a finger on a desperate woman’s finger just to please her and now he wants to back out of this relationship because Mannu’s divorce has given him a new mission in life! We have two women – one desperate and the other one pathetic – who have other options but they are living in Salahuddin’s house because our writer loves these twisted turns in the story.

mm3

It is truly upsetting to watch a director like Haseeb Hassan going along with everything that this story had to offer and not only that, this drama is also going the beqasoor way – making the most of a woman’s becharapan and her rona dhona. Honestly speaking, this episode did not even deserve a review! This drama is a bigger train wreck than I could have imagined it would turn out to be. How could such big stars and big names think they were doing their fans or viewers a service by being part of this drama? I have lost all faith in Samira Fazal, Chup Raho, Aitraz and now this!!!

The preview of the next episode made me cringe, it also showed just how desperate Mann Mayal team is for the ratings! Can this drama get any worse? I think it can!

Mor Mahal – Episode 06 – 09!

0

Ohkay so, did I enjoy watching these 4 episodes? Somewhat yes. But was I thrilled? Sadly, no! Honestly speaking, when I saw the promo posters of Mor Mahal, I was excited to find out about the history considering it being a periodic drama but little did I know that I was signing up for an emperor who sadly doesn’t own a brain & a bunch of ladies who can easily swing & sway the emperor using their words. Episodes 6, 7 & 8 didn’t work for me at all but the latest episode 9 actually did & I am hoping that after the writer & the director have given us a complete knowledge about the ladies of the house & Asif Jahan’s shab-e-uroosi in all these episodes, they now make an effort & shift the story towards something meaningful, or if I put it in simple words, they shift the story outside the premises of Mor Mahal because I assume that will be a lot more interesting & in that hope, I am not giving up on this drama just yet. :)

As much as I was taken aback by Shahista’s bravery of having an affair with Asif Jahan right under Wazeer Begum’s nose, I was amused that even she had more brains than Asif Jahan & without a fault, Asif Jahan was seen following her instructions like a minion. It would’ve made sense if Asif Jahan was doing this with a single person but he is seen following the advice of every single person around him, which I think is a bit too much because an emperor like Asif Jahan should not only have a personality but a thought process of his own too & more than that I wish he was seen spending more time with the governors & the ministers than the ladies who seriously need to snap out of the fixation of bringing each other down!

As far as I know, Farrukh Zaad belongs to Asif Jahan’s family & she happens to be his first cousin as well, so in reality when it comes to the thrones, families like these always take utmost care of the bloodline, so if we consider that, Taimur happens to have the royal blood running through his veins, so why is it that Badshah Begum is keen on seeing Meher Bano’s son as an heir to Asif Jahan’s throne? Why is it that when it comes to Taimur, Badshah Begum doesn’t see him as her beloved grandson who can take the position of an emperor after Asif Jahan’s retirement? Is it just her hatred for Farrukh Zaad that is pushing her to be more inclined towards Meher Bano’s son or there’s something else, because if that’s the case then they have not covered that aspect properly. Also Badshah Begum’s fixation with Meher Bano’s son seems out of question because Meher Bano is an outsider & Farrukh Zaad belongs to her own family – yes, her concerns are understandable since Meher Bano’s brother seems to have a lot of power & she doesn’t want to upset him, also in order to guarantee Asif Jahan’s safety she wants Asif Jahan to give Meher Bano the rights of being his wife, but to have a wish of seeing an outsider’s kid as a ruler seems a bit irrational. Why doesn’t Badshah Begum want Taimur; her first ever grandson to become the next ruler, I am wondering?

Well, Asif Jahan seems to take his ladies quite seriously but to see him becoming possessive about an unknown servant seemed a bit too immature. Asif Jahan happens to be someone who doesn’t mind winning a woman over gambling, which shows that even though he might respect the ladies of his house, in general he does treat women as commodity, so if he saw that his brother was drooling over one of his servants, he shouldn’t have cared because he had no idea that it was Meher Bano that his brother Shujat fell for. Also, I wish the bone of contention between the two brothers was something substantial & not just a woman, like a battle & an establishment of a new currency over a wish for a woman that wasn’t fulfilled, I mean c’mon!!!

Initially I thought Shahista was only playing upon Farrukh Zaad by only being concerned about having her position secured in front of Asif Jahan but as the episodes progressed & more coverage was given to her, it went to show that she was playing it safe. She neither wanted to upset Asif Jahan nor she wanted to lose the trust Farrukh Zaad had in her, that is why when the timing was right, she instilled the idea in Asif Jahan’s mind to bring Taimur to Mor Mahal, which was her way of earning bonus points in front of Farrukh Zaad. Shahista’s plan that she devised in favor of Taimur & Farrukh Zaad failed initially when she thought that things will work as per her predictions but after that, she didn’t sit still & the moment she found the right opportunity, she pushed her agenda & she had so much of confidence in herself because she knew that Asif Jahan won’t be able to ignore her advice.

Banki is expecting & Badshah Begum is over the moon with the news of supposedly Meher Bano’s pregnancy because she thinks her dream will be materialized but this was the moment when I felt that there was a lot of communication gap between all these family members & what’s amusing is that no one works in order to cut back on that. It is actually quite funny that Badshah Begum hasn’t once visited Meher Bano ever since she has stepped into Mor Mahal, ohkay, she mustn’t have gotten an opportunity to do that but now when she got the news of her pregnancy, I find it hard to believe that Badshah Begum didn’t find it in her heart to visit her daughter in law & congratulate her personally as she was going to give her something she was eagerly waiting for. All Badshah Begum did was inquire about Meher Bano’s preparations of shab-e-uroosi (the most cringe-worthy word in my reviewing history) from Banki & Banki effortlessly lied to her. I find it hard to believe that so much time has passed by & no one has found out that Banki is playing the double role of both the master & the servant. Also, the way Shahista along with Farrukh Zaad sent Shola Jaan dressed as a woman to Shujat was another thing that I found hard to absorb because even after such a huge thing happened Asif Jahan was clueless about it & Shola Jaan unlike him/her kept it to himself/herself. Ohkay, we can give Asif Jahan the leeway because he might be busy running the state (supposedly) but how can I wrap my head around the fact that no one in Mor Mahal has an idea about Meher Bano’s absence, considering how she happens to be the favorite daughter in law of Badshah Begum.

Surraya had a baby boy & sadly, her happiness was short-lived. Dilawar’s advice worked against Asif Jahan, Surraya & Jamshed because the moment Asif Jahan announced Jamshed to be the heir to his throne, someone kidnapped him. I am not sure but I feel either Suleman or Akhtari have something to do with this, but not sure because may be some new character might get introduced through this situation & this is exactly what made things interesting & the 9th episode work for me because hopefully it marked the beginning of a new chapter & new challenges that Asif Jahan will have to face, which I am looking forward to.

Anyways, the introduction of Taimur’s (Umer Naru) character & the talks about the battle between him & Shujat gives me hope that may be the plot of this drama will improve & will give us something to look forward to because ever since it has begun, the story & the characters have been one-dimensional, so may be things are about to change. Asif Jahan shares so many relationships with so many people that it is hard to find acceptance to each & everyone of them but I did like seeing him with Surraya & also his relation with Shahista seems interesting, because Shahista has all of a sudden come to the forefront & I am interested to see how she will contribute to the story in the future. The director for sure has done a great job & the actors are doing an amazing job too but I feel the plot is a bit weak & the writer didn’t do well with the script but I am hoping for a change. I must say I liked the chemistry between Shahista & Asif Jahan, which goes to show that Jana Malik & Umair Jaswal have played their parts really really well & to be honest, these two actors are the reason why I tune to this drama. Anywyas, I have now started to feel that Sania Saeed has been wasted because the character that she is playing could’ve been played by any other actor. Seeing how Akhtari’s character was allocated to Sania Saeed made me believe that she will play a pivotal role in this story but so far she hasn’t done anything apart from some predictions, some suspicious smirks & some strolls within the palace.

In my honest opinion, I think Meher Bano is getting way more coverage than she deserves, everything is revolving around her, from her supposed pregnancy to Shujat’s love for her, to her becoming a pawn in the game that Shahista & Farrukh Zaad are playing, to Badshah Begum’s fixation with her, yet the coverage given to her character hasn’t been tackled properly & there are so many loose ends attached to her that her character & all the situations related to her do not sit well with me at all. Also, I found Farrukh Zaad’s character becoming weaker because all she does is send orders to Asif Jahan which he hardly pays heed to. May be with Taimur’s arrival, she will get some coverage & we’ll get to hear some meaningful conversations from her side as she happens to be Taimur’s mother, similarly, Badshah Begum seems sickly fixated with Meher Bano & there’s nothing else that she has spoken about & there’s nothing substantial that we’ve heard from her either which I hope will change too. Somehow, I still see a potential in this drama & for that reason I am going to watch it but let’s see if it improves or not. Please share your say about these 4 episodes of Mor Mahal.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Vaneeza Ahmad On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Vaneeza Ahmad is arguably the most distinguished personality in Pakistani fashion industry. She doesn’t make many appearances on TV, but in the latest episode of Star Iftaar, Sarmad Khoosat welcomed her to the show.

Vaneeza shared a bit about her journey and revealed that she made her TV debut with drama serial, Khayal on PTV which was a bold play of its time that tackled issues like drug abuse, AIDS and violence against women. Vaneeza has two daughters and in many interviews, she talks about how much she loves and enjoys her role as a mother. She revealed that she might consider acting in dramas again.

Vaneeza’s shout-out to her husband for cooking for her and spoiling her with his delicious dishes was very sweet.

This was quite an interesting and informative episode because Vaneeza Ahmad shared some useful information about various ingredients. This time, Sarmad Khoosat prepared one of my favourite dishes, Khousay.

Udaari – Episode 11

This had to be the best episode of Udaari so far; it was packed with powerful and poignant performances and the direction was absolutely flawless. Although this drama deals with a very serious issue but the producers and the writer has definitely achieved their objective of educating and entertaining the viewers at the same time, which is truly impressive. The fact that the mood of the viewers changes with the setting of every scene goes to show that the writer, director and actors have done complete justice to the tasks assigned to them! While I watched the scenes in the city with a smile on my face, Zebu’s track made me feel for this helpless little girl once again and it was good to see the story moving forward at a decent pace.

This episode revealed a little bit more about Imtiaz’s character. He is not only a person with a sick mind but he is also a criminal who is on the run. Imtiaz’s conversation with Jamshed revealed that he is part of a gang of criminals and right now he is laying low because the police is looking for him. Imtiaz’s confidence went to show that he is not frightened easily which might prove to be a problem for Sajida once she finds out what is going on. It is not going to be easy for her to cope with the situation because Imtiaz will not leave her and Zebu alone easily. Sajida’s clueless behavior was also covered superbly yet again; she has absolutely no idea what is going on but at the same time she is not willing to leave her daughter alone just yet. Sajida’s concern for her daughter so far goes to show that she will do anything to protect her daughter and she will not be one of those mothers who decide to sweep the issue under the rug and ask their daughter to move on with life. Imtiaz made the most of Sajida’s ignorance by asking her to be strict with Zebu. Like I said before the acting by all the actors was beyond brilliant tonight. Ahsan Khan’s acting especially when he confronted that man showed yet again that he was capable of so much more than playing a typical hero on screen. Samiya Mumtaz has translated Sajida’s character flawlessly on screen; you feel for this mother too because she genuinely cares for her daughter and wants to protect her but she has no clue what is going on. Samiya Mumtaz’s acting is always very natural and she brings even the smallest of emotions come alive on screen. The child star Arisha who is playing Zebu’s character has acted just as well as these seasoned actors, which is amazing.

udari1 (2)

Meeran and Sheedan’s track won me over completely in tonight’s episode. Everything about this track was extremely pleasant throughout this episode except for the way it ended! Meeran and Arsh’s relationship was heart warming right from the start. Those shades of Meeran’s character which went to show that she was still a simple village girl who wasn’t very eager to follow Arsh’s lead was also shown very nicely. The scenes in which she gave Arsh apt replies went to show that she thought of herself as his equal now. Urwa Hocane has outdone herself in this role; she is adorable and endearing. I have always liked Farhan Saeed as Arsh even when he was very annoying, I had a problem with the character before but never with the acting. Now that the character has taken another turn, Farhan Saeed is still very convincing in this role. The rest of the actors fit their roles perfectly too and tonight even Laila Zuberi’s acting was up to the mark for a change.

It was good to see Sheedan being appreciated for all the work she has done around the house. Munira is an intelligent woman who did not trust Sheedan with her eyes closed but gave her a chance to win this trust. Sheedan’s over-confidence is backed by some serious talent therefore it is very likeable. The relationship between Sheedan and Arsh is also very amusing. Also, watching Meeran and Sheedan talk about the problems which were being faced by Sheedan’s brother and son back home was a fine addition to this episode. Meeran and Sheedan are living a comfortable life for now but their troubles are not over. These seemingly happy women have some serious financial issues which is why this new development in Meeran’s life is very important to them. Bushra Ansari just like all the previous episodes made her presence felt. Sheedan’s character itself has been etched-out brilliantly. She is one of the most confident and talented women we have seen on screen in a long time.

udari

There was a great deal of development in this episode and the director Mohammad Ehteshamuddin managed to cover it all without making the viewers feel rushed at any point. The auditions were shown really well too, it looked like a real clip from one of these auditions. Watching Hadiqa Kiyani judging her own singing was funny ;) It is impossible to say who was the star of the show tonight because everyone performed so well. The scene we were all waiting for was shown in the end therefore we still don’t know if Arsh and his band’s dreams will come true or not. I am hoping that Meeran will save the day by telling her story and winning the hearts of the people involved. The preview of the next episode was very enticing; Sajida will finally find out the truth and I am eagerly waiting to find out what her reaction will be. I am also happy that Zebu does not need to suffer in silence any more. The writer Farhat Ishtiaq has written every character and each track brilliantly and has covered every little detail without putting the viewers to sleep. This drama gives the Pakistani viewers a chance to talk about a topic we usually don’t talk about and is entertaining at the same time.

How many of you watched this latest episode. Do share your thoughts about it.

Ali Sethi On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Najam Sethi’s son and Mira Sethi’s brother, Ali Sethi is a highly educated and talented individual. He was associated with the latest season of Coke Studio, he is the voice behind two of film, Manto’s songs and had a small acting role in Mira Naik’s Reluctant Fundamentalist. Sarmad was pleased to invite him to the show.

FB_IMG_1466282717930

Ali Sethi’s journey is indeed very inspiring and it definitely encourages people to follow their dreams. He studied at Harvard University and there, in an event, he performed Farida Khanum’s “Aaj Jane Ki Zid Na Karo” and discovered that he can sing. When he returned to Pakistan, he started to learn classical music and he speaks highly of his ustaad. Ali Sethi is a writer, journalist, singer, actor but I am in awe of his humility. Usually it gets boring when in talk shows, you see celebrities whose work you don’t follow, but I really really enjoyed this episode and loved hearing about Ali Sethi’s journey.

Dil Lagi – Episode 14

Dil Lagi continues to be a very ‘intelligently’ written play which has been directed beautifully. The crackling chemistry between the leads and Mohid’s faith in his love for Anmol makes this love story extremely enticing. After every episode of Dil Lagi the viewers are left wondering what will happen next. Director Nadeem Baig has made the most of his magical spark and the writer Faiza Iftikhar has given the viewers a much-needed break from the bechari aurat scenario. Although Anmol is another extreme but it is always refreshing to watch a woman on screen who has problem solving capabilities and does not depend on a man all the time. I always find myself rooting for Mohid most of the times but only because of Anmol! Had Anmol not been so full of hate, things would have been different. There are also times when Anmol is very cute especially when she does not get her own way. Both these characters compliment each other. What makes Mohid’s character different is the fact that although he is too nice and soft with Anmol but that isn’t because he is a fool. He is a very wise man who knows exactly what is going on and is tackling the situation in this way only because he loves Anmol. Also, the fact that he makes sure he makes Anmol ‘miserable’ every now and then in his own way makes his character even more interesting. In fact all the characters in this play do not lack basic common sense – yes! it is a rarity these days – all of these characters are wise individuals. Also, not once has the writer banked on coincidences to take the story forward.

Coming to tonight’s episode, the first scene of the episode was predictable but definitely worth the wait! Anmol has a great deal to learn about love and from this scene it looked like slowly but surely Mohid is teaching her something new every day! Anmol wasn’t expecting these pigeons to come back and the way Mohid explained the reason why they came back, left Anmol dumbfounded! Mohid’s words and the love these birds have for him made Anmol pause and think for a change. Although this particular conversation did not change anything but it was good to see Anmol giving something which Mohid said a second thought! The writer has not banked on coincidences but this story rests heavily on a huge misunderstanding. Anmol still thinks Mohid is involved in unlawful activities. Her conversation with Dastagir did not help clear this misunderstanding but it was a very interesting conversation! Mehwish Hayat owns her character as Anmol, she is phenomenal in every scene. I have already praised Imran Ashraf enough in my previous reviews but every episode makes me like him even more. Only a director like Nadeem Baig could have a shot a scene like the one in which Dastagir was drinking the juice so brilliantly; the noise in the background, the camera work and especially the timing with which those dialogues were delivered and the way that scene ended was just plain genius! These little details have added life to all the scenes. Also, the freshly painted carts, walls and other backgrounds make every scene visually pleasing without making it look like too much effort was put into making everything look ‘perfect’!

dl1

Once again in this episode too Mohid was a clear winner but right now Anmol is on another mission. It seems like she is genuinely interested in helping Sabiha out. Anmol and Sabiha’s relationship is gradually becoming more interesting. You want to believe that Anmol is no longer using Sabiha but wants to see her happy although it is a little difficult to believe something like that about her! Sabiha is too scared to tell her mother what is going on but Zulekha of course is clever enough to put two and two together. Zulekha’s character is another one which always gives you something to remember. She might have backed out for a while but she is back to teaching her daughter in law the rules of the house – not that she is listening but Zulekha does not give up and always has an argument as solid as that of Anmol’s! I loved Anmol’s dialogues regarding housework – someone really needed to say that!!! And for once I agree with her completely! Why should the bahu work when there are so many servants in the house.

Mohid continued to make sure that this relationship and the ‘war’ between Anmol and him did not get too serious!! He is definitely making sure he does not surrender but at the same time he is only defending himself right now and not doing anything that will offend/insult Anmol in any way! It is great to see an intelligent hero who is not blinded by his love for the heroine but loves her with all her flaws! I also love the way Faiza Iftikhar has given a new meaning to some old and extremely popular phrases! So far she has given a new meaning to the phrase “love is blind” and also “everything is fair in love and war” and the interpretations are spot on! Hamayun Saeed continues to give top quality performance in every episode. Most importantly he has added the X factor to his character which helps in making Mohid’s character even more charming.

dl1

Mishal and Dastagir’s nok jhok just like always was very entertaining. “aik number ka du number insan” dialogue was hilarious and their conversations like always had a good flow. This might seem completely out of context but I really feel the need to say this – the way Anmol and Mohid enjoy their food in this drama makes you crave for whatever they are eating even if you are watching an episode right after dinner time! Usually actors avoid eating and delivering dialogues at the same time and usually they only take a bite at the most but that is not the case here! These two love their food and can eat it in a way that is pleasing to the eyes and they deliver their dialogues effortlessly while they are at it! Mehwish Hayat and Hamayun Saeed should be part of some food campaign;) How many people wanted to eat that biryani and those oranges tonight ;) ?

With this episode many of the characters have embarked on a new journey; Anmol is going to find Fazal, Zulekha has something ‘extreme’ planned for Sabiha and Dastagir and Mishal are finally on the same page even though they don’t always agree! I am also wondering if Mohid will do something with the information which the driver gave him at the end of this episode. The fact that ARY does not show a preview of the next episode right after the episode ends makes it impossible to guess what will happen next!

Every episode of Dil Lagi is enthralling; every episode gives you tons to look forward to and the script, direction and acting never disappoints you. How many of you watched this episode? Please share your thoughts about it.

Mubashar Lucman Strongly Condemns Ramazan Transmissions

0

Gone are the days when Ramazan meant hardly any television. There was a time when there was only PTV that even drama serials did not air during the holy month of Ramazan and everything on television either covered only news shows or something which was directly related to the month of Ramazan. This was done because even the television authorities wanted to reinforce the belief that this month should be dedicated to prayers and recitation of Quran.

There is a recent trend now of hosting special Ramazan transmissions which are not entirely depicting the true spirit of the month. This trend is being followed by more and more channels with every passing year. These Ramazan transmissions are a mixture of entertainment shows with some talk about Ramazan here and there. According to the concerned channels and hosts the Ramazan transmission ends with Iftar and after that the hosts are seen using any tactic they can in order to get ratings.

Mubashar Lucman was seen bashing Morning Shows few weeks back, now he has shown his anger with the things that are being shown in the name of Ramazan transmission. He condemned in two different shows not only the people who are hosting these shows but also those religious scholars who become part of all such shows. He said that firstly people whose character is unacceptable for many reasons are hosting Ramazan transmissions. He said that these people dance and sing all year and in Ramazan they tell people how to be good Muslims. He also showed some outrageous clips from these Ramazan shows and questioned the Ulemas who chose to stay silent because they too want to be a part of these transmissions so that they can earn money.

He stressed that these hosts should stop making a mockery of the holy month of Ramazan. He said that a lot of people were making mistakes but right now everyone was quite. Mubashar Lucman also said that these acts can effect the whole nation in a bad way and this thought was giving him sleepless nights. These shows are undermining the true spirit of Ramazan.

Sania Saeed On Star Iftaar With Sarmad Khoosat

0

Woww, I was delighted to see Sania Saeed on the show. Sania Saeed is one of the most polished actresses and she plays every single character with perfection. The best thing about this episode was the introduction – I absolutely loved Sarmad’s heartfelt introduction. It’s amazing how Sarmad used to be a huge fan of Sania Saeed back when he was a kid and now he has not only worked with her in wonderful projects but he also got to invite her to his own show.

FB_IMG_1466185050909

Be it a drama, film or in this case, cooking show, it’s always an absolute pleasure to see Sania Saeed on screen. I love how softspoken and thoughtful she is. Her reply to the usual question, “agar aap insaan na hote…” was very interesting and intelligent. I also really liked what Sania Saeed said about food being a lot more than what you simply eat – it’s more like a feeling, it’s what binds people together especially when a family sits together to enjoy a meal.

Sarmad prepared Mushroom Soup because Sania Saeed likes mushrooms. I think this episode was focused on the dishes being prepared so we didn’t get to learn much about Sania Saeed, her upcoming projects or her experience of working with Sarmad Khoosat.

Deewana – Episode 07 – 12!

Ohkay so, I must say I loved watching these 6 episodes of Deewana a lot. I enjoyed watching it because for me it’s a perfect blend of fantasy, drama & comedy. I must commend the writer for coming up with something so unique & brilliant at the same time. All the characters make sense even though some of them are different to what we’re used to watching but the treatment that the writer has given to them & how he has made them seem believable is amazing. The director also deserves full points for giving this script such an amazing treatment & making all the characters work for us.

So many things happened in this last 6 episodes that I enjoyed watching them a lot, it goes to show that the pace of the drama is perfect & the story is evolving. Agha finally made an appearance & as we all expected, Agha & Husn Ara have quite a history that they share. It looks like Agha is on the evil side of the spectrum while Husn Ara & her family are on the good side. As their conversation suggested, it looks like Agha has at one point of time caused harm to Husn Ara’s family, that is why she doesn’t share a cordial relation with him & also, she dreads that Agha might harm Falak as he knows that Falak’s all that Husn Ara’s got. It looks like Husn Ara still awaits the arrival of her husband & Falak’s father, that is why she doesn’t agree to move from this place when Falak suggests it.

The war between Husn Ara & Agha worked in Falak’s favor & he got the permission to move to Mehru’s place as a tenant. The way Falak made his way into Mehru’s life & home was quite interesting. I loved the tiff Falak had with Shabnam & how he defeated her. It was good to see that for the first time Shama gave consideration to what Mehru said & even though she didn’t believe in what the lady said, Shama had it in her heart that she should reject the first tenant, but I am sure she would’ve never done that if Falak hadn’t come up with such an amazing deal. Falak knows that this family has been through a lot & that is why he has taken it as his duty to change things & circumstances for them. Right now, Falak can’t do much as he pleases because he has Husn Ara & Shams around him who keep on reminding him of his limitations & restrictions but I love how makes the most of the smallest opportunities to bring smile on Mehru & Qureshi Sahab’s faces.

Haris is struggling more than Tabrez & Amtul imagined. They thought that just because they will remind him about all the favors they have done on him despite him not being their biological son, he will give in to the pressures & will do what they will ask him to do. Even Haris thought that he will find it in his heart to deceive Mehru & grow out of the love he has for her but now when it isn’t happening, he is dwelling in the guilt more & more & may be because of that he wanted to make things right & confess that it wasn’t him who left Mehru in the lurch. What shook Haris the most was the news of Mehru’s association with a guy who has moved to her place. Haris knows that Mehru can never ever betray his love & trust but just as Haris doesn’t have much spine in him, he doesn’t have much brains too, that is why he thought it was a right idea to send a spy to fetch the details of Mehru’s family & happenings. Tabrez & Amtul’s negativity has blinded them, that is why even after they have destroyed Mehru’s life, they are not at peace & want to cause more damage to Qureshi’s family. I actually thought Haris will escape the emotional blackmailing but he is not strong enough. He knows that Tabrez has done so many favors on him that now he has to reciprocate even if he doesn’t want to.

I am so glad that the main characters are past the crying stage & even though the feel of the drama is still gloomy & sad, a few comic situations lift the drama up & lightens the mood too. I must say I love the introduction of Gaiti’s character in the drama & I love the equation both Gaiti & Shabnam share. They provide a comic relief & their conversations are so humorous & witty that I enjoy them a lot & actually look forward to their scenes. Gaiti is eager to get married & that is why the moment she heard that a good looking guy lives in Mehru’s place, she thought she should try her luck. What followed was sadly something that she never had imagined but it was good to see Husn Ara coming to Gaiti & Falak’s rescue. It is quite interesting to see how Husn Ara ends up doing the damage control even though she hates it. It shows the love she has for Falak & how she understands him. Even though on the surface, Husn Ara keeps on reminding Falak of how he could land himself in trouble by mingling with the humans, she keeps a close eye on him to be able to protect him as he’s all that she’s got.

Shama has shown a lot of improvement over these episodes as her bitterness has curbed a bit but I don’t really understand why she allows Shabnam to affect her mind & thoughts so much. Shama knows the sort of a person Shabnam is, so now if Shama knows that everything that Shabnam says is meaningless, then she shouldn’t believe on the things that she utters too. It was a sad state of affairs that Shama started doubting Mehru’s mental condition just because Shabnam instilled the seed of doubt in her mind that Mehru has gone through so much that she might’ve lost her sanity. Shama underestimates her husband & her daughter way more than she should & if Shama has some wisdom in her, then she should understand that it is Mehru who hasn’t lost her sense & despite going through so much & despite enduring so much of pain, she still is an optimistic & a hopeful person who thinks that things will be alright & she will be able to change her condition.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed watching these episodes of Deewana & I am so looking forward to what is yet to come. I am sure the writer has a lot of surprises for us in there so I am eagerly looking forward to them. I must say, I love the way the dialogues have been written, it is good to see the writers upping their game in terms of dialogue writing. I most certainly love all the conversations that happen between Shabnam & Gaiti, both Fazeela Qazi & the actress playing the character of Gaiti have such an amazing sense of timing that their scenes become a treat to watch. I must say, Shehroz Sabzwari has impressed me a lot too. He has performed wholeheartedly & it shows, it looks like he is so so so comfortable as Falak that he makes his character seem believable & a treat to watch. Iqra Aziz looks beautiful & she has improved her acting a lot as well. Even though Anita Campher doesn’t have much scenes but she gives it all to the bits where she performs & adds such a charm to her scenes. Saba Hameed has done well too but I easily get tired & bored of her angry bird face. I must say I appreciate the writer’s attempt of bringing in the comedy in a story that started off at such a serious note, it makes things lighthearted & entertaining & more than that it makes me look forward to what’s yet to come. Please share your thoughts about these episodes of Deewana. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Hamza Ali Abbasi’s Banned From Hosting Ramazan Transmission

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi has always been known for his bold stance but this time while hosting the Ramazan transmission on Aaj TV, he discussed some topics which are considered controversial in Pakistan and as a result PEMRA has banned him from hosting Ramazan transmission. At the same time host Shabbir Abu Talib from TVOne has also been barred from hosting the transmission because his speech was provocative.

PEMRA reported that it had received as many as 1,133 complaints through Whatsapp, Twitter and telephone calls regarding the transmissions. PEMRA notice also said that during these shows no one was talking about anything productive but most of these shows are running after ratings.

The notice also mentioned that all the TV channels had been warned before hand to refrain from non serious and controversial topics during these transmissions but some people have not been abiding by this rule.

The Pemra notification also said that if Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shabbir Abu Talib and  Maulana Kokab Noorani appear on any channel at all and are seen discussing this particular controversial issue or any other such topic, then that program will also be banned.

All these people have been asked to appear before the Complaints Council Karachi and record their statements on June 20 to give their statements.

Most people are supporting Hamza Ali Abbasi and are not happy with PEMRA’s step.

Here is the conversation which landed Hamza Ali Abbasi in trouble:

Mein Sitara – Episode 14

This latest episode of Mein Sitara focused on Sitara’s attempts to persuade Farhad that she did not love him. There was also an obvious change in Jharna’s attitude and Farhad’s growing madness got ample screen time too. Just like all the previous episodes of this drama, in this episode too the intentions and feelings of the characters were crystal clear. Although the situations and the characters in Mein Sitara are anything but simple; they are complex characters which are changing with time and so are the situations in the drama. Translating such characters on screen in such a manner that the viewers have absolutely no problem connecting to their feelings and circumstances is not an easy job but the writer, director and the actors have done their work with utmost honesty therefore it is always very easy to understand the characters or the happenings.

This episode clearly showed that Jharna has started trusting both Farhad and Sitara once again. Even when Farhad was shouting outside Sitara’s door in the middle of the night she did not suspect that this was something she should be concerned about. She thought it was something related to work and her only problem was Farhad’s drinking. Jharna is the same person now who she was before Nasim Dil Ruba came into the picture. This change in character is believable and it once again makes her character more likeable. It is easier to feel for her because she isn’t constantly looking for excuses to prove that her husband is cheating on her. Aisha Gul has always been faultless as Jharna and it is good to see Jharna being the confident woman she once was once again.

ms1

It is Sitara’s bad luck that she turned to Jamal for help. If she had made up a story and turned to Jharna for help, she would have been in a far better position today. Jamal cannot even help himself, he relies on Naseem Dil Ruba entirely and is working for her but Sitara thinks she can trust him. This episode laid down the foundation for the climax which will be a part of the next episode. In her desperation Sitara keeps on doing one silly mistake after another which might cost her more than she bargained for. Just like I guessed undoing what has been done seems impossible now unless Sitara takes a big step which too will do more harm than good. Some of the scenes in tonight’s episode clearly suggested that Sitara still has feelings for Farhad and it is very difficult for her to hurt him like this over and over again but she is doing all this only for Jharna – she might have revealed her true feelings for Farhad in a weak moment but she has realized what is at stake here and she is not wiling to put her relationship with Jharna at stake for the sake of her own happiness. Sitara has set her priorities straight and unlike some other heroines of our dramas she is not giving the hero mixed signals! Saba Qamar is a brilliant actress who knows exactly what is expected from her as Sitara. Playing this character is difficult because there are so many concealed emotions involved in every other scene but Saba Qamar does it all so effortlessly.

Farhad does not have the courage to tell Jharna how he feels about Sitara therefore the only way for him to make this relationship ‘legal’ is to enter into a nikkah with Sitara. Another reason for this also is that he wants to make sure Sitara stays with him for the rest of his life. Farhad knows very well that what he is doing is wrong but he claims to be helpless. Farhad’s feelings were portrayed brilliantly on screen by Mikaal Zulfiqar and the character has been written very well too. We have seen many married men falling for younger women in many dramas but never has such a scenario been so ‘enticing’ ! I am certain that there is very good reason why Naseem Dil Ruba is still getting plenty of screen time. She will have an important role to play in the story at some point.

The preview of the next episode suggested that Sitara will probably enter into a nikkah with Jamal to stop things from getting worse. I could be wrong of course but that is what I gathered from the promo. If Sitara does that I will truly feel for her because at this point she is completely helpless – if she tells Jharna, her marriage will be over and she will be very hurt and there is no way that Farhad will back off now!

This episode was rather slow, I was expecting a little more action but overall the convincing changes in the characters, powerful conversations, the great direction and the mind blowing performances always manage to make every episode of Mein Sitara a must watch. The slap however was highly uncalled for and not needed, the way Farhad shouted at Sitara and kept on pushing her was enough to get the message across.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Do share your thoughts about it.

This episode was enjoyable and hilarious, I mean, with Vasay Chaudhry, what else do you expect? Vasay Chaudhry shared how he first met Sarmad Khoosat in Government College University (Lahore) and it went to show that these guys go way back. He admitted that he doesn’t know the first thing about cooking and usually, Sarmad is the one asking all the questions but this time it was interesting that Vasay asked Sarmad how he developed an interest in cooking -that Khirad kay balon say clip nikalnay wala comment was hilarious! :P

Vasay Chaudhry spoke fondly of his daughters and said that he has been in the entertainment industry for almost seventeen years now but it is only after the birth of his eldest daughter that he started to receive awards and accolades.

In this episode, we saw Sarmad Khoosat’s fresh take on French Toast, which he said was primarily for kids. It was good to see him try something different. Sarmad is a perfectionist and he was not very happy with the presentation. Have a look:

More About ”Yalghaar”

0

Directed by Hassan Rana, produced by Waqas Butt and written by Haider Rizvi, Yalghaar is a much anticipated war-epic film, based on the true story of Pakistan Army’s Swat Operation.
Yalghaar boasts an ensemble cast including Shan Shahid, Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui, Armeena Khan, Ayesha Omer amongst others.

Talking to Express Tribune, director Hassan Rana revealed, “The rough cut is ready and we are now working on the post-production for Yalghaar, mainly the visual effects (VFX) and sound design. We are currently uploading the film on the servers after which production companies from four different countries will work on it.”

IMG_20160616_215754

“Minor post-production will also be done in Turkey and Bangkok. The sound design, on the other hand, would take place at Skywalker Sound in the US.”

IMG_20160616_215820

As far as the release dates are concerned, since the film follows the operation led Pakistani Army and boosts patriotism, “A lot of the people have recommended releasing Yalghaar either on August 14 or September 6 as it would complement the movie’s theme. We can only begin marketing and promotions for the movie once we have the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in our hands, so a July release at this point does not seem possible.”

Ahsan Khan Talks About Udaari

Udaari is a brilliant drama that raises the sensitive issue of child abuse that majority of the people simply refuse to talk about. Udaari is a play that aims to educate the public. Ahsan Khan masterfully plays the character of Imtiaz, a pedophile who abuses his stepdaughter. Now, in a thought-provoking article that Ahsan Khan has written himself, he talks about child abuse, his character in Udaari and how the drama aims to educate the public.

Here’s the article:

As we all know, Udaari has been pivotal in bringing the issue of child abuse to light. Many victims who have never been able to talk about their nightmarish experiences have taken strength from the issue’s recent exposure in mainstream media.

Several people in my circle have confided in me — seemingly very normal, functional households can also have such issues.

So, why do all of us try to shove this very real issue under the carpet?

kid

Child Abuse is a very serious and pertinent issue in our society. Just because we have chosen to ignore it, doesn’t mean it will go away. As a nation, our stance has been to hope that this very real danger will sort itself out while we keep our heads buried in the ground, unable to see or hear what’s happening around us.

As a father myself, I often lay awake at night and ponder over issues like child abuse. Will I be able to protect my kids against the evils of society that exist? What would I do if one day, any one of those evils manages to touch my child’s life?

Just like other Pakistanis, I too was raised in an environment in which certain topics were taboo. Perhaps our elders believed that to protect us from certain atrocities, the best course of action was to never speak of them. But do I want to raise my kids the same way? Or would I rather have my kids talk about their problems openly with me? By creating a sense of shame around these topics, will I really be doing what’s best for my kids?

udaari

It was only because of my character in Udaari, Imtiaz, that I started researching the effects of child abuse on a child’s psyche.

Other than the obvious physical damage that sexual abuse can cause, the psychological impact is long-term. Children may feel like they are responsible for the abuse, which can lead to self-loathing and sexual problems as they grow older — they may become excessively promiscuous or become unable to have intimate relations.

bushra

Children usually do not open up about their abuse. Instead, they become anxious individuals who lack confidence. They choose not to share their apprehensions, in the fear that others won’t believe them or will be angry with them. They also fear that such an incident will split their family apart. Due to these worries, false accusations of sexual abuse are uncommon. So if a child confides in you, take them seriously. Do not turn a blind eye!

As a nation, we should bring issues like child abuse on the forefront to discuss them, instead of brushing them under the rug, and what better way to do that than through our mass media?

Media personalities and key figures have shaped fashion trends, language and our culture. It’s high time we start shaping mindsets for the better. It is not only our privilege, but our responsibility to do so.
