Master Chef Pakistan Judges Panel Announced !

0

The most awaited cooking contest, Master Chef Pakistan, is all set to sizzle our screens this May. The Auditions for this contest were held in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

Launch Event of the show was held in a private hotel in Karachi yesterday where Judges of MasterChef were introduced. The Judges Panel include Chef Zakir, Chef Mehboob and Khurram Awan.

Khurram Awan is Executive Asst Manager of Food and Beverages in Movenpick Hotel. Chef Zakir and Chef Mehboob need no introduction as we see them onscreen almost everyday.  For me, Judges panel is perfect; Chef Zakir is famous for his desi touch in food, Chef Mehboob is perfect in both desi and continental cusine whereas Khurram Awan can not only handle taste of the food but will also look for some excellent presentation of what contestant will bring infront of the judges panel.

I am happy with the judges panel and eagerly waiting for the show to get on air soon. Whats your say about judges?

Ranjish Hi Sahi – Episode 22 & 23

0

The story moved forward at a fast pace in these two episodes. The developments in the story were completely unexpected. Too bad that most of the important twists were already given away in the promos of the upcoming episodes, not only this there was a special news in Jung newspaper as well telling the viewers exactly what was coming their way. I wish that Geo would give people a reason to sit through a drama by not providing them the opportunity of following the drama through the promos and the summaries they give in the papers. I am all for intelligent marketing but the drama should be promoted in such a way that the viewers keep on wondering what is going to happen next. Telling the viewers that Hiba will have an accident would have been intriguing enough, telling them exactly what was going to happen in my opinion was just plain foolish! Similarly informing the viewers that Rohail was going to fall in love with Tooba would have been sufficient!

rhs10 rhs11

Kamal and Bilquees are finally back – the moment that we had all been waiting for. Even after all these years the things between them remain the same. Kamal Hassan never got over what happened in the past and rightly so too. It remains to be seen how Tooba will react once she finds out that Rohail is Kamal’s son. The woman who was responsible for breaking her engagement and the one who played havoc with her mother’s life is the mother of the man she loves so much that she is not even going to let Hiba stand in her way now.

rhs13

Hiba’s accident was executed brilliantly. I am glad that she didn’t have that accident because of Rohail. I expected Rohail to be a little more empathetic towards her because they were really good friends but sometimes it seems like he feels absolutely nothing for Hiba. Tooba’s initial reaction to Rohail’s request and her conversation with him later on was totally in line with her personality. The great thing about all the characters in the play is that they are very well etched out. Unlike some of the characters in other plays which completely shock you with the things they do and nothing makes sense.

rhs14

Emaad Irfani is doing very well for a newcomer. He just needs to improve his expressions when he is listening to people. He looks overly attentive and too surprised most of the times even when it is not needed.

rhs12

I must say I absolutely loved the transformation in Tooba’s character. She obviously has no idea that Hiba is in love with Rohail. Rohail must have been attracted to Tooba all along that is why even though they spent so much time with each other, he never told her the reason why Hiba stopped working with him. I think Rohail is being very unfair to Tooba by not telling her the truth because he knows only too well that Tooba will do anything to make Hiba happy and would never commit herself to a man her sister loved. Rohail is being very selfish; I actually felt like he was taking advantage of Hiba’s condition. If Hiba could tell Tooba the truth, things would have been very different. Rohail has always been shown as the kind of person who places his own feelings above others quite unlike Tooba. Now that I think about it Rohail’s first meeting was very well done because I remember wondering at that time if Rohail was really interested in Hiba or was he attracted to Tooba. The confusion was created intentionally. Thumbs up to the director and the writer for keeping it subtle and for keeping the viewers guessing right till the last moment.

Every episode of this play is a visual treat that deserves to be savored. There is plenty to look forward to. Do share your thoughts about these two episodes.

Pyarai Afzal – His stay in Karachi till now..

0

By far, we have seen that Afzal leaves Hyderabad just for the sake of becoming an established entity; He knew that this was the reason for which he got rejected by Farah. It was so interesting to see that how Afzal’s family reacted after knowing the fact that Afzal is gone. Maulvi Saheb’s concern didnot come to end but he got anxious to know whether Afzal had some cash to spend or not. Afzal’s mother got shocked but didnot put a glance of sadness at her face just for the sake of not letting her husband know that she is worried. Inshort, both of them looked apparently happy, but deep inside they were completely broken.

No one can be as dumb as Farah. I am seriously not getting what on earth she wants ? And why she is not clear about her aims. Firstly, she played with emotions of Mehtaab. To clean bowled Mehtaab, she took help from poor Afzal. Then played with his emotions because she wanted to go abroad for Mphil. And now that all obstacles are completely vanished, she decided to not go abroad but will do Mphil from Karachi. And now today, she seemed confused again that she should not go to Karachi. Her father is so right.. wakaie, dimaagh ka aalu bana deya hai..

Farah’s discussions with her sister clearly depict that she has developed feelings for Afzal. Unlike Lubna and Arifa, I guessed it not merely because she keeps on talking and asking about Afzal but my guess also relates to Farah’s feeling for Mehtaab. Now that she is in love with Afzal, she came to know that how badly Mehtaab got hurt when she rejected him.

Babu Hameed, Afzal’s first friend in Karachi, helped him to go through his hard time.. Ya ye kehna chahye that Afzal helped him. This way or that way, within very short span of time, they became good friends as if they were together since their childhood.

I am really liking Sohail Ali Abro’s character in this show. Her first encounter with Afzal at her own house was fun to watch. It was pretty much predictable that sooner or later Yasmeen will fall for Afzal and tonight’s episode gave her strong reason for that.

Be it his love for Farah, respect for his parents or loyalty towards her sister, Afzal proved himself to be an extremist. And tonight, we came across his hidden trait and that is to fight for right. It was his father’s teaching that gave him courage to never fear a man because at the end of the day a man is the creature of Allah who wants a man to fear him only.Afzal’s fight with Wali was interesting to watch and I enjoyed every dialogue during their fight; The way Afzal handled wali after having that lethal fight was another treat to watch. So for me, the highlight of today’s episode was Afzal and Wali’s encounter and the scenes after that; Inshort, last half of the show compelled me to watch the show till end.

First half of the show was a bit dragged and I lost my interest somewhere in the middle of episode. But Wali’s part brought my interest back into the show. Ab dekhna ye hai whether Farah will go to Karachi or not ?

I would love to read your feedback about today’s episode.

Female Model Fell on Ramp “Twice” during Fashion Show.

0

As soon as I logged into my Facebook account, I came across this video and was shocked to see that a female model fell on ramp. Now you people must be thinking that whats with it, Reema also fell on ramp. But after seeing this video, I thought that how gracefully Reema handled when her shoe heel broke; Even after that, she completed her whole round on ramp and walked back confidently. And this local model slipped or fell not once but TWICE and the “after effects” of falling down were equally watchable :P

Watch out video here :

For me, it was just a publicity stunt. I mean not able to balance can be justified once but not twice.

What is your say about this cheap tactic of gaining publicity ?

Celebs With Amazing Makeup!

0

Makeup is one thing that can make you look beautiful & horrible,  totally depends on how one uses it. On a personal note, I have always been into makeup, it’s one form of art that I actually am a fan of therefore, I always love learning about makeup & follow the looks that the actresses carry during their dramas or even on some other events & because I know a lot about it I always do give special consideration to the makeup I see on screen.

I have accumulated the list of all those female actors whom makeup I actually really like. By being in the industry for so long, some have garnered the command on it themselves while the others depend on the makeup artists but it’s like these ladies can never go wrong with the makeup & can pull off both the subtle & the dramatic looks. By speaking about their makeup I don’t believe that they need a lot of it obviously they all are beautiful in their own accord but being in the industry & in front of the camera, they fulfill the demands of it therefore they do have to resort to makeup & I believe each one of them has perfectly defined their signature looks which looks great on them.

Mehwish Hayat:

I have absolutely adore her makeup because I think she is the only one who pulls off the new highlighting technique on the T-zone & her perfect contour enhances the cuts of her face. I am glad Mehwish has worked on thickening the eyebrows because that makes her look more youthful & complete plus the shaping perfectly matches her face frame. I remember she once mentioned in a morning show that mostly she does her makeup herself & if that’s the case I’m more of a fan than ever. :)

MH

Ayesha Khan:

The flawless skin & the next-to-no-makeup look that she pulls off in every other drama is just amazing. I love her eye shape & the thin cat eyeliner suits her the best. I remember raving about how flawlessly pretty she looked in Bari Appa with all those peach toned blushes, I think she is one of those who looks more beautiful when she’s wearing less makeup because she doesn’t need excess of it.

AK

Hina Khuwaja Bayat:

Ugh, I want to find out who her makeup artist is. I think I haven’t seen a single makeup look of hers that doesn’t compliment her colored eyes & forces me to rave about her makeup every single time.

HK

Nida Yasir:

I do once in 2 months have a look at her morning show to know what’s she upto but I must say she has groomed herself so well & on top of it her makeup is always amazing. Yes, for the mornings it may look a little on the excessive side but when it suits her, nothing else matters.

nida-advetr

Bushra Ansari:

I know she has been in the watchful eyes for her OTT getups but whoever her makeup artist is, he/she is doing a wonderful job on her. I am a fan of her eye makeup & that blending of transition eyeshade on the crease to the color on her socket with that winged eyeliner, I am a hugeeee fan of all the makeup looks that she has carried in Pakistan Idol.

ba

Suhai Ali Abro:

With or without Kajal, she always has a flawless foundation that just looks & matches as good as her skin. I do prefer her heavy kohl’ed eyes because I think she can pull ’em off really well. She doesn’t do much with the eyeshades ever but I have loved her eyelining techniques.

64510_430752487005947_1416107271_n

Samina Peerzada:

With or without makeup, she is a true beauty but even if she carries makeup in shows or events, she always have that makeup on which suits her the best. She has kept the dark lips trend in & it compliments her perfectly. I have been a fan of her contouring & eye-shading too. :)

SP

Anny Jaffery:

Such a pretty face with such playful eyes to experiment different looks on. She does go for a little simple look in the dramas but have never seen her in a makeup fail.

ainy jaffri2

Atiqa Odho:

Another one of our colored eyed celeb with some amazing makeup skills that she has on her own but other than that, she knows what suits her & what she can pull off. I think she looks perfect in both the dramatic & less dramatic eyes.

Atiqa-Odho-Pakistani-actress-hot-photos-3-257x300

Saba Qamar:

I am glad she has started to follow the thick eyebrow fashion as well because that gives her face a lot more softness. From shimmery eye to red lips, Saba Qamar can pull it all off & I have always liked her makeup looks even though she doesn’t put much effort in the dramas because of the roles she plays but other than that she looks stunning in every other event.

AQ

So, this was my list of makeup. Those who are into makeup or like it might be able to relate to me & my choice a bit more & a bit better. I once again state that these actresses are beautiful on their own but a little usage of makeup is definitely what their work demands from them. So, where these ladies have paid extra attention to their looks I do feel that there are a few actresses who need to change their makeup artists ASAP but for now I have only dedicated this list to those who have been doing good in this department. Share your thoughts on the list & feel free to add more. :)

Bashar Momin Episode 3 & 4 – Changing for the better?

0

I had completely given up on this show by the time I saw the 3rd episode. The whole episode was filled with the good and evil sister-in-law drama. Saira could not stand Adil giving so much attention to Rudaba, and she created a huge drama to get attention. She thought that Rudaba had complained to Adil about her attitude when the poor girl had done no such thing.

After that, Saira openly showed her dislike for Rudaba and made her feel like a stranger in the house. But not in front ofAdil of course, in his presence she was at the best of her behavior. The way she taunted Rudaba about Buland in front of her sister and brother was simply pathetic. This track was dragged to the limit and by the end of it; I had completely lost interest in the show.

Tayabba and her desperation for marriage is getting on my nerves by each passing episode. How desperate can a person get? It is not the end of the world if your engagement breaks. She kept on whining about how unfair life is and kept on blaming her brother’s illegal work and bad reputation for her broken engagement. This track is seriously getting very repetitive. The crying and whining continued in the 4th episode too, and it was simply frustrating to watch Tayabba’s scenes.

However, the fourth episode managed to capture my interest, and now I have some hope for the show. Why was the episode worth watching? The answer is simple: Faysal Qureshi. I was disappointed with his loud and rash character; all the pointless screaming simply made my ears rings. But I had forgotten how well Faysal can emote through his eyes, and that romance and Faysal Qureshi are a perfect combination.

We saw the start of the attraction phase between Bashar and Rudaba. Rudaba is scared out of her wits when she is near Bashar, but she still manages to challenge him even though she never means to. He was amused by the ‘monster’comment, and simply shocked by the detailed and honest comment about his behavior and character. The best part about his eyes is that they can emote both anger and softness. We saw the soft look when he was admiring her and the angry look when he was furious with her.

Rudaba was staying at Bashar’s house because Adil and Saira had to go abroad for some urgent business work. Bashar never gave a second glance or thought to Rudaba, and treated her rudely (that’s normal behavior for Bashar). For him, she was no more than Parizey’s care taker, but with each encounter, his opinion about her changed. She disobeyed him and took Parizey in the rain. That was the first time anybody disobeyed him so openly and calling him furious would be an understatement. He unleashed his wrath on Rudaba and the poor girl simply fainted. Yes, FAINTED! I was surprised and a bit amused by her fainting spell.

The look on Bashar’s face when Rudaba fainted was priceless! It was obvious that he felt guilty for his behavior (a first for someone like Bashar), and he had never expected her to faint all of a sudden. For the first time, we saw Bashar  acting in a normal way as he gently tried to wake Rudaba. It was funny to see Bashar speak so softly and act in such a gentle way! Their next encounter in Tayabba’s bedroom was also pretty amusing. Faysal’s eyes did all the work in this scene.

Bashar has not realized that he is attracted to Rudaba, but he will soon. Judging from the preview for the next episode, he would be speechless after he sees Rudaba all dressed up and this would make him think about her.

Another highlight of the latest episode is that Buland is officially back. Buland and Rudaba’s  first encounter was pretty filmy, there was no electricity plus there was rain. Rudaba was standing outside the house with candles in her hand and Buland was under the umbrella. The expressions of both the actors were perfect. But then if someone asks me who is a better romantic hero; Faysal Qureshi or Sami Khan, then my answer would be Faysal. Ushnah Shah has good chemistry with Faysal, now let’s see how her chemistry with Sami turns to be!

I would recommend you to watch this episode, its better than the previous ones!

Till Next Week!

Bay Emaan Mohabbat- Episode 10 Review

0

th

Naeem’s insecurities are taking their toll and he finally mustered the courage to confront Dania. She knows he’s smitten by her and uses it to her full advantage. She casually accepted that she was in fact with Babar but that was only since they wanted to surprise Sobia. After Shah Ji’s persistence, he called Sobia and asked her to meet him. But Dania found out and gave him a piece of her mind.

Sobia and Naeem are very much alike- they are both naive and blindly honour their relations. Despite Dania’s rudeness, Sobia continues loving her like a sister and wants only the best for her. She seems genuinely concerned for Dania even more now that Dania has expressed her interests in another man. If nothing else, Dania should at least feel rotten about how she’s abusing Sobia’s trust. Babar once again proved his intentions are anything but noble- even under such insinuating circumstances, he continues trying to string Dania along without any word of a commitment. For her sake, I hope Dania sees him for the scumbag he is and dumps him before he dumps her. Babar seems laid back but in reality, he is extremely calculated and plans things according to his advantage. He knows the repercussions of breaking off his engagement to Sobia and that’s not a chance he’s willing to take.

EIVY9

Dania tries to get her father to confide in her- she’s desperate to find a reason to call off her engagement with Naeem. But her father trusts Naeem and loves him like a son and wouldn’t dream of it. At the office, Shah Ji has managed to pull some strings with the help of Nabeel and called off the inquiry but for it to take effect, Qazi Sahab would need to leave too. Qazi Sahab is seemingly upset since his life’s savings depend upon his pension and retirement fund. His financial situation is a real worry for him and also the reason why he chose Naeem as Dania’s partner.

Maria tells Nabeel that she wants to adopt a child but Nabeel isn’t even remotely interested. Nabeel’s marriage to Maria was for his own personal gain. He didn’t realize he would be in it for the long haul but with each passing day, it’s becoming harder for him to keep up with the pretenses. Maria is content that Nabeel remains with her- and that’s reason enough for her to remain happy.

Next week’s preview shows Dania dumping Naeem and I think this will pave the way for Dania to finally see through Babar and his lack of support. Things aren’t moving fast enough for me- I really want it to get to the point where Nabeel and Dania meet each other. Did you watch today’s episode?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Pakistan Idol Week 18 – Ninth Elimination!

0

Ohkay so another week ended with a sad elimination. I know it was really sad but we all had somehow anticipated this would be happening.

I really didn’t understand Bashar Momin’s promotion in the middle of Pakistan Idol. I think GEO has already created enough hype about it & also usually a promotion happens before the show starts. Now when already 4 episodes have gone on-air, I don’t think the promotion was required once again.

It was Ali Asad Zaidi & Rosemary who came in first to get their results. As expected Ali Asad Zaidi was safe because of his awesome performance & Rosemary made it to to the danger zone solely because of the unusual song that was allotted to her.

Next & the last three who came in for their results were Zamad Baig, Mohammad Shoaib & Kashif Ali. I knew Mohammad Shoaib would be safe because of his perfect performance & thought Kashif would be safe too but it came in as a shocker to see Kashif Ali finally making his debut in a danger zone leaving Zamad Baig safe.

Then it came down to Kashif Ali & Rosemary so that the final announcement can be made. I felt the moment Rosemary was told that she didn’t make it through to the top 4 she seemed like she was expecting this result & so did her family.

Definitely sad at her elimination because she was capable of making it to the Top 3 but I am glad she came & proved her talent that too at such a young age of 15. Judges really had some great things to say about her & Bushra Ansari rightly said that Rosemary doesn’t lack talent, she only lacked some votes. She did survive till the Top 5 & that is something definitely huge at this age & I loved what she said to her co-contestants. It was rather sweet.

So, with this we’re left with the Top 4 & they are Ali Asad Zaidi, Kashif Ali, Mohammad Shoaib & Zamad Baig. I am not sure if we’d see any variety at this stage of the competition but I do hope they choose different genres to perform in the next round. No one is expecting them to step out of their comfort zones but a little experiment in the genres is definitely required.

I hope they had allotted a better song to Rosemary because even though they had to sing the songs of Ali Zafar, Rosemary could’ve performed another duet because the contestants who have performed these sort of songs have always been eliminated previously. This is why Ali Azmat always emphasized on choosing the right song which does make some sense.

I wish my favorite Rosemary all the luck, success & a bright future.

Marasim – Episode 2!

0

Ohkay so this was another episode of Marasim. Even though they have been showing a lot of flashbacks from the past but still the story is moving forward. I am not disappointed by the direction & feel things are moving on normally. Definitely, I am not going gaga over this drama but it ain’t that bad either.

As expected, the news of Abdullah’s wedding reached Gaitiara & Deeba. Deeba was shattered because she was forced to fall in love with her cousin as they were supposedly engaged. Daood assured his sister of finding her a better partner but she chose to refuse his offer & not only that but now she has started to have an issue with Momenah too. This is definitely a story of vindictive people who have been involved in years family politics & hatred.

Even though a lot of years have passed but Gaitiara hasn’t found a closure till now. She keeps on reminding herself of all the hardships she had to endure because of her late MIL & also that her SIL Sherbano had an important role to play in snatching away Gaitiara’s peace. Even though it was Daadi’s decision to get the grandchildren married & despite all the hatred that had harboured in between them over the years, no one dared to break off the engagement because the cousins already had inclined towards each other emotionally. Momenah’s only saving grace was the relation of Abdullah with Deeba & vice versa but now when Abdullah has walked out of the commitment, Gaitiara has found a concrete reason to call of Daood’s engagement too.

Momenah thought it was her duty to assure her MIL-to-be about how she keeps them all closer to her heart & therefore she didn’t feel ashamed in literally begging them to make her a part of their family by forgetting what Abdullah has done to Deeba. Momenah may love Daood wholeheartedly but she really doesn’t know that Deeba will treat her like her mother Sherbano treated Gaitiara & Gaitiara will treat her the way her MIL used to treat her plus definitely Momenah’d have to pay the price for all the ill-treatment Sherbano put Gaitiara up with.

Times have changed & just now when Sherbano knows her own daughter’s happiness is at stake, she feels remorseful & ashamed because of her behavior with Gaitiara & clearly she can foresee what Momenah would have to endure because Gaitiara has lost all the respect for her in-laws. Sherbano thought that Gaitiara might’ve forgotten all the insulting she ever got from her but she was shocked to hear her confession of how much she has hated them all these years. This was definitely an eyeopening detail for Sherbano because she never must’ve thought that ever in her lifetime Gaitiara would come to a position where Sherbano won’t be able to look into her eyes with the same pride she once had in the early years of their lives.

Gaitiara dreaded seeing her son getting away from her as Daood was the only one who took a stand for his mother in front of his father & grandmother but now when she saw that Daood found out about Abdullah’s wedding & planned his own with Momenah so as to protect his engagement from breaking, Gaitiara can’t tolerate her only son being snatched away by those people whom she has hated all her life. For now, she has officially called off their engagement & seems like Daood will resist & try to undo his mother’s decision. Let’s see what happens next.

Cheers,

Nadia Hussain playing challenging character in New Drama

0

691781-NadiaHussain-1396715667-291-640x480

After having a look at this picture, all of you must be thinking that what Nadia Hussain is actually upto ? well, its her new look for upcoming drama Mitho aur Aapa. All I can say after watching the teasers of this show is that from her perfect pout to Paan stained lips, she literally nailed it.

While discussing the details of her role in this show, Nadia told that,”It was something different, that’s why I accepted to act in it. In this play, the girl belongs to a low-income neighbourhood, I am playing a girl from that background. She is seen as a flirtatious kind, who is making things work for her much-older husband and herself; I myself wanted to give it a shot and do it and that’s what I have done.”

She further stated, “This was a very challenging role for me. The production house asked me to bring my own collection of saris, but I didn’t have those kinds of  gaudy saris and eventually they had to provide me with them. The role itself is very loud, my make-up is loud, it is not polished; it has been done very roughly. I had to eat paan to a great extent. Paan, was something I hadn’t envisaged it in my dreams that I would be eating so much, but I did. Can you imagine? That too, with chaaliyah. ”

She said that if masses will like her role in the drama than she is ready to experiment with more different and interesting roles.

Another baby is given to a childless couple in Geo’s TV show Inaam Ghar

Inaam Ghar is a TV show hosted by Aamir Liaqut, which Geo TV claims to be widely viewed. As  per one report of Urdu Daily Jang (published on 6 April 2014)’ A childless couple is blessed with a child due to Inaam Ghar’ (another feather in the already heavily filled crown of this show and aamir liaqut). Last year infants were given as gifts/commodities to some couples in Amaan Ramzan show of Aamir Liaqut too and now it is repeated in Inaam Ghar. Last year the act was widely condemned and criticized by people from different walks of life including social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi, but Aamir Liaqut is least concerned about it. (Offcourse the more important concern is to get high TRP of show)

As per report, there is a ‘palnaa (baby swing)’ at the set of show Inaam Ghar, this time it has a baby from Chheepa welfare organization which was abandoned by the parents with a chit that Ramzan Chheepa (head of Chheepa organization) and Aamir Liaqut can handover this baby to any childless couple. The ever famous host i.e. Aamir Liaqut in the presence of Ramzan Chheepa and Nadia Gabool (Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh) handed the baby to a childless couple. Emotional scenes (which are necessary for a high television rating) were also observed in plenty on this occasion leaving Nadia Gabool and many others in tears. Emotionally charged Ms. Nadya Gabool expressed her feelings by saying ‘I had heard of angels but now I had seen them in reality in the shape of Aamir Liaqut Hussain (what is the definition of angel for Ms. Nadya Gabool????) and Ramzan Chheepa. They both are providing services to humanity which cannot be described in words.’

The ever happy couple Shahid Memon and Shumaila Shahid thanked Aamir Liaqut and said that after a wait of eleven years they have been blessed with a baby (strange, if they have any plans of baby adaption, they could have easily contacted any other organization already working in country for this purpose instead of waiting for eleven years and aamir liaqut who has recently started awarding babies from last year). After showering some further sentiments (off course in front of camera) the couple with the consent of Aamir Liaqut named the baby as ‘Muhammad Hamza’.

So the emotionally charged event concluded happily, but there was further icing on the cake in the shape of response from Aamir Liaqut on this noble deed.

Ramzan Cheepa said that awarding babies to needy couples in the show ‘Amaan Ramzan’ (Ramzan show of Aamir Liaqut aired last year) has yielded positive results, and there has been a considerable decrease in number of babies abandoned by their families. (breaking news: as every other week Geo News shows some report where a poverty stricken family has abandoned its kids, so either Mr Chheepa is wrong or Geo News is wrong  )

Speaking on the occasion Aamir Liaqut said, in inaam ghar, a determined procedure is followed before giving a baby to a childless couple, the procedure includes thorough inspection of the couple. He further added ‘Despite his noble and pious work he was overly criticized in the show Amaan Ramzan but he is fully determined (means kar lo jo karna hai) to continue this pious contribution towards humanity, i.e. work of giving babies to childless couple (off course in front of camera as it yields high TRP, whereas off camera will not increase TRP).

(So it means Aamir Liaqut will continue this act, so all the childless couples who want to adapt a baby in front of camera should immediately contact the management of show). Perhaps after ‘Aalim Online’ soon there will be program named ‘Baby-adaption online’ hosted by ‘har dil azeez’ Aamir Liaqut.

Both Geo Kahani and HUM Sitaray telecast entertainment programs of Turkey, India and Pakistan and ARY Zindagi is expected to run on the same lines. Shukk Episode 25 – And The Tortue Continues

0

First of all the dialogues that deserve the most absurd dialogues of the century award

Shaam’s mother: mein tumhein kuch batana chahti hun lekin wada karo ke tum naraz nahi ho gay

Shaam: Yehi ke Sehrish pregnant nahi hai

Shaam’s mother: Tumhei kese pata chala!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Errrrr it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, right guys?? Just when you think that it can’t get any worse, it does!! All of us thought that the characters and the story could not get any more twisted and the happenings more ridiculous and illogical but I would call that wishful thinking now. Shaam and Sehrish playing pretend in the opening scene was beyond absurd. Both of them knew there was no baby so they could at least be honest with each other when they were away from the house…away from militant mommy! One second Shaam’s mother was huffing and puffing and the next moment she was having guilt pangs! In one scene she was threatening Sania and in the other one she was feeling for her. Shaam’s mothers attempts to keep him in Sehrish’s room were the tactics an eleven year old would use but not something you would expect from an old lady. Nothing about Shaam’s mother’s character made sense. Same is true for Sehrish, if she does not want to fight for Shaam any more, she should just stop! There was a time when she was fighting for her husband because she felt she could not live without Shaam now that she clearly sees Shaam, Sania and Roomi as a family, she should just move on with life.

s1

Shaam’s mother gave him a chance to divorce Sehrish but how lucky are we that he is still thinking things through! Sania and Shaam’s conversation in the study in which she apologizes was another pointless conversation in tonight’s episode. When I saw this particular scene I was reminded of the times when we had to write a long answer to a question in exams and I hardly had a paragraph of logical details in my mind, that was when you had to stretch all those details to fill pages even if what you said made no sense. Our writer my dear friends is following the same formula here! Samira Fazal knows only too well that there is nothing left in the story. The only way to stretch the drama is to fill it with conversations that go around in circles and have absolutely nothing new to add to the story.

s2

My husband asked a very valid question at the end of this episode; he wanted to know how I was going to review this one because nothing happened!! Well, ranting always comes in handy in such a situation and that is exactly what this episode deserved. I will say once again that I am beyond disappointed. Team Shukk and ARY you maybe getting the TRPs you dreamed of but you have turned the love people used to feel for this play into detest…way to go!!

MY TAKE ON 2nd SERVICE HUM TV AWARDS

Okay so the 2nd Hum TV awards ceremony took place as expected. It is quite true that 1st Service HUM AWARDS ceremony was successful so last year I had predicted that 2nd HUM AWARDS will took place as well. Well the awards have not been telecast yet because it is still undergoing edit procedure but from the pictures I must say that this time Sultana Siddiqui was very keen towards making this year awards even more glamorous than last year.

There is no doubt that award ceremonies are yet another entertainment and so previously we got only Lux style awards then from 2010 Pakistan Media Awards garnered great attention and now we are being presented with Hum awards as well, more over ARY is also coming up with ARY Film awards. It’s good to reward our artist on their performances and we need to reward them because if we don’t motivate our artists they will eventually turn themselves towards Bollywood and still some artists are preferring to work in India Ali Zafar is a great example of it.

Anyways the topic is to provide my analysis and my personal opinion on 2nd Service HUM AWARDS, first of all I want to say that HUM TV should accept the fact that in previous year they had provided audience with loads of crap and hence they didn’t have any options but to include those crappy dramas in nominations. This year seems pretty much impressive in terms of quality because this year they are in competition with ARY and GEO although you can still notice lots of crap but it is less than previous year. I have divided my analysis into parts so here you go:

AWARDS DISTRIBUTION: Well this year the awards distribution was a bit disappointing for me and I found nothing new except that Arij Fatima got the award for best actress in a soap “Aik Pagal Si Larki”. I will not talk about the awards given to fashion designers and awards given relating to music industry. I will only talk about awards specifically given to our actors and actresses. Firstly we will take a tour of viewers’ choice awards. I am 100% satisfied with the awards given to actors and actresses here, Zindagi Gulzar hai deserves the best drama award and so Fawad for best actor and Sanam saeed for best actress. My argument is that why the viewers’ choice awards are limited to best actor, actress, and drama and on screen couple. This should be extended to best telefilm, writer and director. Ok so now coming to jury’s choice awards and we can again notice the biases don’t know why the claimant of awards decided by the jury revolves around same senior actors and we are still not encouraging new talent. As expected the awards for best actor goes to Noman Ejaz as previously and best actress to sania saeed. For best actor the award should be given this time to Imran Abbas for Dil-e-Muzter and for best actress sanam baloch was deserving one for Kankar, her character was indeed very powerful in this drama. It seems like HUM TV got only one sitcom “Extras” by Danish Nawaz and each year they are giving award to the same sitcom, what a waste of award. So as usual awards are pre-anticipated and biased. How boring!

DANCE PERFORMANCES: I think that organisers also knows that people are not getting interested any more that who will win because as I have mentioned earlier this thing is pre-anticipated. So to generate interest organisers are getting more focused to provide entertainment to the viewers by presenting more dance performances. No award ceremony is complete without two to three dance performances. HUM should give special award to Ahsan Khan and Mehwish Hayat because they are the best dance partners I have ever seen and HUM couldn’t be able to find their replacement that’s why in 2nd HUM awards you will be able to see their dance performance again. Although I don’t like dance performance on award ceremonies but if they are being presented to bring more entertainment than dancers must wear full clothes at least. Anyone remember last year Humaima Malick dance performance? Ridiculous indeed is this the culture we are representing?

IMG_9528 HumAwards-Ebuzztoday-10 IMG_9519

MODERNISM: This is seriously a hot topic here, as Saud have mentioned you can also call me “Mullah” or whatever you want to call me but honestly we are heading towards worst and towards destruction. I mean why actresses are getting so obsessed to wear half sleeve and off shoulder skirts, seriously if getting naked is modernism than animals are more modern. We are stuck in two extreme ends on one hand we are religiously extremist and on the other end we want to become westerners by following their footsteps to wear half clothes. Where is decency and modesty gone? Kissing and hugging seems to be no problem at all and by doing this our artists are showing that how modern and broadminded we are. Oh who told them by doing these cheap stuffs they will become broadminded. Western people are broad minded in a sense that they do not bother what are you doing or where are you going, they don’t interfere in your lives and they mind their own business and we cannot pass our day by criticizing others. Our country is full of wannabes who only copies bad stuff from the west but never try to copy good stuff.

hum2       1522003_754965834522121_1978198147_n      1514622_754965087855529_1534293131_n

DECENT ACTRESSES NOT TURNING UP: Well it will not be true to state that all actresses are going out of their limits, we have still got some actresses who knows their limits. One thing that I have particularly noticed that decent actresses either turn up not at all or if they turn up you will notice decency in their dressings. Sanam jung and Sajjal Ali is a great example, in this award you can notice both of them in decent dresses, other actresses who are trying to be cheap must learn from them. I have never noticed Ayeza Khan appearing in any awards although she never gets nominated but as a popular actress I am sure she must have received invitations. She is a great example of decency, you will hardly see her even wearing sleeveless. I only saw Sanam Baloch in 2nd Pakistan Media Awards and in that ceremony she only came to receive award for her performance in Dastaan in a simple black Shalwar Kameez. Arij Fatima won the award for best actress in soap but she was not present as well. I never saw Ayesha Khan as well hope she will appear in ARY Film awards.

sanam jung                       sajal ali

So do you agree with me if not then please provide your argument but please argument must be related to the topic only.

The copy-cat effect

0

Ever wonder why our dramas circle around the same ghissay-pittay topics? Inspiration is one thing, but how many times have we watched the same story rehashed with slight variations and different actors? Seems there’s no dearth of copy-cats out there who try and cash in on a story that works.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the main story lines that we’ve had the pleasure of seeing:

My Sister, The Home -Wrecker!

It all started with the evil sister after her behnoi in Maat. Seeing its massive success, soon we saw Madiha Maliha, Aks, Bari Apa, Yahan Pyar Nahin Hai (it was her cousin, not real sister), …

maat

What’s Love Got To Do With It?

So it seems, most of our drama husbands are having a hard time staying loyal to their wives! It seems just about anyone can sway them- a neighbour, a friend, a co-worker, a housemaid… Shehr-e-Zaat, Vasl, Adhoori Aurat, Miral ul Uroos, Dil e Muztar…

shehr e zaat

3 magical words to freedom

Somehow, just as quickly as a man says Qubool Hai thrice, our dramas seem to show divorces happening in a jiffy. Doraha, Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, Madiha Maliha, Aks, Adhoori Aurat, Rubaru all followed the same pattern.

doraha

The lonely divorcee

After being rejected by her majaazi khuda, our lonely divorcee is faced with such trying circumstances that she ends up getting married again! Doraha, Vasl, Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, Aks, Kankar, Rubaru…

mqmd

The helpless widow

Our dramas seem to take mazloomiyat to new heights by depicting the plight of widows. Ek Nazar Meri Taraf, Aise Jaley Jiya, Zindagi Tere Bina, Shab e Zindagi, Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitaara Hai…

enmt

It’s a Boy Girl!

A very valid reason our drama husbands use to either divorce their wives or take a second wife since the gender of the baby is the wife’s fault! Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Mera Saeein, Rehaii…

rehaii

Whose The Daddy?

As much as I loathe the other topics, this one tops my list. It seems our drama husbands have no faith in their ability to father a child which is why they are quick to accuse their wives of cheating! Aseer Zadi irritated the daylights out of me.

az

Second Chances

Another new trend that seems very likely to become the next trend-setter is halala– Kabhi, Kabhi and Rubaru are sensationalizing this concept. For the sake of our sanity, I hope not!!!

rubaru

I had the privilege of watching a new drama today- Bhabi and going by the promos, the writer has incorporated quite a few of the above! Three cheers for creativity!

What will it take to get channels to provide us with wholesome entertainment that qualifies as entertainment and doesn’t depress the daylights out of us? How much tragedy will be too much? Can’t we just watch some feel-good dramas that actually have a point? What do you think?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Another interesting episode. After Sajjad Ali’s episode & Shahmir’s elimination, I think this one will stay with me because I actually enjoyed Ali Zafar as a judge but more as a mentor. I think he brought out the best in the singers & lead them like no one has ever done. His main focus was to make them understand how they are supposed to convey a feel of the song & loved how he broke down the emotions of each & every word & sentence which actually helped the contestants understand a lot more about the right projection of the emotions behind the words. It looked like Ali Zafar’s a perfectionist & he was working towards making all the songs of his that were going to be performed, perfective. It was a treat to watch him & his judgements. :)

The list of the performances is as follows:

Rosemary (RM) of Karachi sang a duet sung by Ali Zafar & Shreya Ghosal named ‘Dhichkiyaoon’ for the Indian movie ‘Chashme Baddoor’. She sang it with ease & seemed really confident & I couldn’t help noticing how pretty she is. Ali Zafar said that she had this naughtiness in her voice that was actually needed for this song & she used it really well. He also said that her voice is perfect for singing the duet songs. Bushra Ansari said she enjoyed the song & felt that even though it was a duet, she sang it really well. Hadiqa said it was a high-pitched song but Rosemary was effortless in her performance. Ali Azmat said that it’s for the first time he has felt she chose a song that is appropriate for her age & commended her saying she was brilliant.

Ali Asad Zaidi (AZ) of Karachi sang Ali Zafar’s ‘Dekha Jo Teri Ankhon Main’ from his album ‘Masti’. It was a perfect performance & he made it enjoyable to listen to. Bushra Ansari said she was just so happy that she can’t explain. Ali Azmat mimicked Bushra said he was happy too & said it was a difficult song that he sang easily. Hadiqa gifted him a bell & it was absolutely hilarious. I thought it was a very cute gesture. Like always she called him a star & said his performance was brilliant. Ali Zafar spoke about the technicality of the song because he himself has sung it. According to him this song gives a very less breathing margin to the singer & has a few difficulties but seeing Ali Asad Zaidi holding it all together during his performance left Ali Zafar amazed too.

Kashif Ali (KA) of Lahore sang Ali Zafar’s ‘Jugnuon Se Bhar Le Anchal’ from his album ‘Huqa Pani’. I must say this performance of Kashif marked his presence on the TOP 3 definitely, he was just perfect. Ali Azmat said he breathed the life into this song & made it effective in it’s own way. Ali Zafar felt his voice has a spirituality in it & spoke about how he tried to bring him out of his comfort zone to see how well he performs & I am glad Ali Zafar did it because Kashif nailed it. Bushra Ansari said his performance had everything starting from expressions to sweetness to spirituality. Hadiqa said Kashif came out of his comfort zone & didn’t ever let Ali Zafar’s singing style overlap his.

Mohammad Shoaib (MS) of Peshawar sang Ali Zafar’s ‘Masti Ke Din Hain’ from his album ‘Masti’. It was a fun-filled, power-packed performance & he totally stole the show which even compelled Ali Zafar to give him a standing ovation. Ali Azmat said he was brilliant. Bushra Ansari said the audience enjoyed as well as we enjoyed the performance. Hadiqa said he chose a great song & sang it really well, she said he had all those moves going on but pretty much had a control on his notes & she even said she loved his performance. Ali Zafar said he came with a positive energy & entertained the whole crowd, he also spoke about the technicality of the song & appreciated Shoaib’s take on it.

Zamad Baig (ZB) of Mandi Bahauddin sang Ali Zafar’s ‘Dastaan-e-Ishq’ from his album ‘Dhoom’. No doubt he sang it really well because he is definitely a great singer but I wasn’t impressed with the song choice because it was like we are listening to the very good ol’ Zamad Baig – the Qawwal of Pakistan Idol. Bushra Ansari said it was a soulful performance but she found him weak at times too. Hadiqa said very appropriately he chose a song that matched his vocal tone (surprise surprise) & didn’t take any risks but sang it well. Ali Azmat said he has an earthy feeling to his personality & that shines through his performance too. Ali Zafar spoke about knowing the true meaning of Sufism & then performing a Sufi song brings in a whole new meaning to the performance & he commended Zamad for justifying the song completely.

So, this was it from this particular episode of Pakistan Idol. My favorite performances were of Kashif Ali, Ali Asad Zaidi & Mohammad Shoaib. I think Rosemary did sing a song really well but I feel she earned herself a ticket of exit from the show because Pakistani audience have not liked these sort of songs that were performed previously in Pakistan Idol too. Mehwish Maqsood got eliminated when she said ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’, Asad Raza Sonu also got eliminated when he sang ‘Dil Mai Bajji Guitar’, similarly despite the fact that Rosemary has sung the song like the way it should’ve been performed but I am not sure if it will earn her the votes. May be her support system, her fanbase won’t slack & vote for her to secure her position in the show but I highly doubt it.

It is definitely getting tougher & tougher but I am glad Ali Zafar came in at the right time. Hadiqa very subtly mentioned about Zamad playing it safe & not being experimental which I think is definitely needed in Pakistan Idol. I think this was just the perfect opportunity for Zamad to show his versatility but he missed it. Kashif Ali shined in this performance because he tried experimenting & very confidently he made a mark. I loved how Ali Zafar even briefed about how he must perform by sitting & giving out a romantic feel to it. His briefings to all the contestants were honest & came straight from his heart which made him look like that secure senior artist who really wanted the best for these contestants & wanted to help them earn all the praises & appreciation. This makes me think Ali Zafar would make a great judge too because he is young & seemed like he connected with the young, fresh talent pretty well.

Even though this was the very first season of Pakistan Idol & they lived up to the expectation of the viewers but now when the show is ending I feel they didn’t actually work on the genres & didn’t let the contestants show their versatility. They did come up with general themes like party, valentines, pop music but they actually didn’t test the contestants by confining their skills to certain classified genres like Ghazal, Qawwali, Sufi Music, Classical, Folk etc. I hope in the next season the complete song choice is not left on the contestants because right now each one of them except Ali Asad Zaidi & Mohammad Shoaib have pretty much made a point about what sort of songs they are good at singing & that’s it.

So this was it from my side, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode & feel that more such young successful singers should’ve been invited as guest judges because they can connect with the young contestants pretty well. Share about your favorite & least favorite performances of the night.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai – Episode 17

0

Tonight’s episode focused (generously) on everyone’s reaction to Zeeshan’s father’s decision. The viewers were shown in great detail the reactions of all the family members. The first half of the play was filled with meaningless conversations. The only conversation that deserved all the screen time was the one between Rabbiya and Zeeshan. Mira Sethi was brilliant in that particular scene. She portrayed all the emotions of her character flawlessly. Rabbiya found it impossible to believe that Zeeshan’s father could come up with such an unacceptable solution to the problem. Her reaction was justified and shown superbly. I could not be less bothered with how the rest of the family members felt about it because none of them had anything new to say. Those scenes could easily have been chopped down. The viewers know all the family members well enough by now so even a couple of lines from each character would have conveyed the message loud and clear.

m1

Hassan deserves to be shot; the way he has been harassing Romaissa is beyond sickening. But then all of Nabeel’s family members except for Zeeshan of course have done everything in their power and more to make things even more difficult for Romaissa. Even Waleed proved today that he is not just useless but he can also stoop as low as Hassan and Nabeel’s father to get his hands on Romaissa’s money. No surprises there of course.

m4

The best part of this episode was that the viewers got a chance to see a lot of what Romaissa was thinking and going through. Usually we see Romaissa crying, we hardly ever see her thinking or reacting to anything. This time around Romaissa decided to take action. She felt cornered, used and abused. She even turned to Khala in order to get out of the situation she is in and she went as far as contemplating suicide. I am so glad that it wasn’t Zeeshan who rescued her because I was expecting that it may just happen. The two most important people in her life – her father and her dead husband – were the reason she chose to stay alive.

m6

The flashback scene in which Romaissa is talking to her father was truly touching. I wish we could have seen more of the beautiful conversations that Romaissa used to have with her father. The sweet words that her father spoke to her helped me relate to the person Romaissa is today. Her father was obviously her ideal and whatever he taught her is very close to her heart, which is exactly the reason why she is such a harmless and sweet person.

m2

I feel for Adeel Hussein, his character has one more shukki wife to deal with now. But I must admit that Zeeshan’s character is way better than Ehtesham in every way possible and I do not expect it to go downhill. Zeeshan threatened Hassan like a true policeman and I loved him for it!! The preview of the next episode definitely gave me something to look forward to. Looks like it would be Rabbiya’s greed because of which Zeeshan will leave her. No wonder her parents figured out the reason behind Zeeshan’s father’s grand plans – it takes one to know one!! I really liked the way the scene in which Zeeshan sees Romaissa and Hassan talking was shown. In any other drama Zeeshan would have heard the entire conversation but in this one Romaissa spots him the second he is near enough to hear what they are talking about. This was definitely more real.

m7

This episode could have been much better if Nabeel’s family members were given less screen time but overall it was good mainly because it showed the more human side of Romaissa. Sanam Jung was absolutely wonderful in tonight’s episode today. Adeel Hussein never ceases to impress me with his performance and I really liked Mira Sethi in tonight’s episode as well.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode. Any predictions about what is going to happen next?

Actors That Didn’t Age Gracefully!

When we speak or think about our senior most artists, we feel like extending respect to them which they definitely are entitled to; given the history of their work but these days it seems that our respected senior artists are working on a sole purpose of defeating the baggage of age they carry with them & seems like they don’t really care what is expected of them.

When I speak about aging gracefully, it is strictly based on the vibes our artists have started to give lately through their outer appearance & their conversations. I am not judging them about what sort of people are they or how good or bad they are but yes I think they must now take a notice of the number that defines them & that is their AGE!

Bushra Ansari:

Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo!

Hands down, she tops the list undisputedly. Whether it’s her over or under dressing in Pakistan Idol, her over the top hairstyles or 20 layers of foundation & makeup, she has started to over-do things a bit (read a lot). I know she made the place in our hearts with her sense of humour & comic timing but I think she now wants to amuse people through her get-ups as well & now that’s taking a humour to another level. Seems like she takes it very seriously therefore we see her making hideous choices in terms of styling that may or may not, mostly may not suit her.

Bushra Ansari

Javed Sheikh:

Rangeen Mizaji at it’s peak!

According to a morning show host, when she questioned Javed Sheikh about what’s he going to do if he ever gets locked up in the elevator with Meera & Reema, the senior artist replied ‘he wouldn’t have to do anything as the ladies would do the honours (toot toot toot toot)’. I thought his flamboyancy was restricted to his conversations only but seems like he has fallen in the league of those who just do not choose to age & gracefully at that. He has spent his life like a Casanova but I think it’s better to use the remaining energies on teaching his kids about acting as that’s a massive task he has on his hands & in his home as a household chore.

Javed Sheikh

Shakeel:

Shauqeen Shaquille!

Whether it’s about the changing colors like seasons on his face or naming himself as Shaquille, this particular uncle has started to look too over-the-top lately. From pulling off a Salt & Pepper signature look of Amitabh Bachchan (Black Hair, White Beard) to playing Holi on his beard, uncle is trying really hard to impress but I think if he works on his acting at the given point in time, he will impress the audience but seems like he is so busy looking in the mirror that he has no energy left to look into the Camera & deliver what’s required of him in terms of acting.

Turning 60’s into 16!

I know, may be around decades of dieting & what-not has made her look young & beautiful but seems like she is too keen on making a statement before she hits her sweet 60’s. Unfortunately, we saw her pulling off all the Beyonce/Katrina/JLo-like ensembles in her recent film. She is one of those who just don’t get a point that as much as her weighing machine pulls a lower number, her age counter keeps on accelerating.

I know all these actors have worked tremendously & have played a major role in giving this industry a recognition & there is nothing wrong in looking attractive but I think it’s better to be decent than amusing. Feel free to contribute to the list & share your thoughts on how much do you feel they need to work on representing the country they belong to!

Rubaru – Episode 14!

0

Ohkay, I must say Rubaru is getting better & better. 14th episode, still going strong & still not disappointed. I hope they do not stretch the drama & end it at a good note.

I am still unable to figure out the importance of Kiran Teeepu story. I mean what does Kiran want now? She wasn’t satisfied & happy when she was single, she was at her worst when she got married, she herself left no stone unturned to get divorced & now when she has remarried, she has totally gone crazy. Does she really think she can win Teeeepu over again? & I really don’t get why her irritating character is even so important that we get to see her throughout the episode. Aik do scene karo aur paray karo isay.

Teepu has found an old/new friend in Neha. He definitely knows her as Surmed’s ex but now she is also single after having her bad share of divorce. I think things might shape up for Neha & Teeeepu & they’ll tie the knot pretty soon because they both are seemingly enjoying each other’s company these days.

I thought Surmed actually had nothing against Shabbi & Neelam’s family but I was wrong. He only pulled off the acting till he got to the position which he hoped for. He has now found the perfect way of taking revenge from the whole family. I am glad that Shabbi got to know everything about Surmed at just the right time because now she can still prevent something worse that might happen.

I think none of us might’ve even imagined the things Surmed went through as a child & for this I do commend the writer for bringing in these twists at just the right time. At first he did come across as a victim but surprisingly he was a nanha munha villain on his own. I think Syra Yousaf failed in portraying the shock Shabbi got after finding the truth & the real face of her husband because she conveniently seemed too dumb & numb thinking crying another glass of tears would be the perfect thing to do.

I must say in a bunch of expressionless people like Teepu, Kiran, Shabbi & Surmed, Neha is such a pretty face & a breath of fresh air. I know she doesn’t have much of a role to play but definitely brings in the energy & a positive one at that. I think we all complained at the never-ending wrath on Surmed/Faizan Khuwaja’s face but now when I saw him smiling I thought this guy must never smile again. I am glad he uses his teeth stealthily & miserly because that smile just doesn’t suit him & he is definitely saving a lot of people from the creepy shivers.

Anyhow, this was quite an interesting episode & I can’t wait to find out what happens ahead minus Kiran & her irritating voice.

Meri Beti – The Finale

0

I started watching the play Meri Beti because it had some of my favorite stars. I must confess that all the dramas that have been produced by the Big Bang Entertainment (Fahad Mustafa & Dr. Ali Kazmi’s production house) start with a big bang but gradually go downhill after a few episodes. The casting and acting is always stellar but the direction is so weak that even a story with tons of potential falls flat completely.

The story of the play Meri Beti was unusual and intriguing but the writer and the director failed to keep the viewers looking forward to more after episode 18; like many other dramas the focus on stretching the dramas till episode 25 or more took over everything else. The relationships between all the characters were established beautifully in the beginning, I couldn’t help but connect to everything that I saw on screen. But once Iraj found out the truth, the pace of the drama got so slow that it was very hard to keep that connection with the characters. Iraj’s reaction was completely justified but the entire situation was dragged without end. Samina Peerzada’s character’s death was completely unnecessary. Everyone could have resolved their differences without this turn in the story. What Iraj’s grandmother did was extremely wrong because many people were affected by her decision but I really did not want her character to die with guilt! She was not portrayed as villain but was made to look like one towards the end. I would have been much happier with the ending if Iraj’s grandmother’s death was not used to take the story forward.

mb

Faisal and Iraj’s relationship was the only good thing about the play that lasted till the end. There were times in this last episode and also in the play overall when the emotional scenes were overplayed. Simplicity and clarity in direction most often leaves more of an impact than scenes that are over dramatic. There was way too much crying in the past few episodes as well. Irij took too long to forgive her grandmother who had given her all the love in the world which could easily have made up for the mistake she committed in the past. Iraj’s grandmother’s intentions were always pure; she wanted her daughter to be happy and she raised Iraj in the best way possible. Iraj’s mother in law got away with everything but the writer made sure that her grandmother paid for her mistakes! It is ironic how our writers conveniently forget about these trouble makers when they are winding up the story. They are used as a tool to create misunderstandings but these negative characters hardly ever pay for their mistakes.

mb2

The story was stretched to the limit, so much so that by the time we got to episode 20, I just wanted the play to be over! I completely lost interest in the play after Samina Peerzada’s character died because in my opinion her character deserved to be happy just as much as Iraj and everyone else. Samina Peerzada, Sabreen Hisbani, Arij Fatyma, Shahood Alvi and the child star Maryam deserve a special mention for their brilliant performances.

How many of you followed the play Meri Beti? Are you satisfied with the ending?

Marasim – Episode 01!

0

While looking at the promos I thought this drama definitely would offer something different. I must say considering the very first episode they did progress the story with the help of some flashbacks quite appropriately. If I have to explain in the simple words this is just another story about the joint family politics written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah & directed by Owais Khan. I have heard some great reviews from the viewers who have seen the scripts written by Zanjabeel Asim therefore I’m ready to give this one a try plus after APlus’s brilliant Aunn Zara that I covered, I am hoping APlus will not disappoint the viewers this time around too.

It’s the story of Gaitiara (Saba Hameed) who spent all her life miserably under the domination of her mother in law (Badar Khalil). Before her death, Gaitiara’s MIL thinks the best way to keep the family close-knit is to have the interchanged marriage of her grandchildren. Without the consent of her daughter-in-law Gaitiara, the MIL orders Rafique (M. Hanif) & Sherbano (Naila Jafri) to get their children married when they grow up.

Gaitiara & Rafique have a son Daood (Ahsan Khan) & a daughter Deeba (Sadia Faisal) where as Shehrbano’s son is Abdullah (Furqan Qureshi) & the daughter is Momenah (Sonia Hussain). Daood & Momenah have always loved each other because of their pre-arranged relation but Momenah has her inhibitions because of Daood’s mother. Momenah feels that Gaitiara has become quite bitter because of the ill-treatment of her own MIL. Daood tells Momenah to ignore his mother’s bitterness & treat her with love & respect because she can’t resist as she has emotionally suffered a lot. Momenah also dreads that things might go wrong & they’d have to part.

Where Daood & Momenah have a good relation & they love each other, Deeba always feels that Abdullah isn’t interested in her but she decides to give the utmost attention to her relation with a wishful thinking that Abdullah will fathom her love & she will win him over one day. Gaitiara who feels that now she is in a position to break the engagement, tries to talk her daughter out of her commitment but Deeba refuses to let go despite the fact that Abdullah has always lent a cold shoulder to her. Gaitiara tries to explain to Deeba that the way her own father was cold, similarly Abdullah will not treat her well but Deeba remains persistent because she believes the time will change.

Abdullah after an year of his marriage to an Indian Muslim girl in the USA tells his mother, sister & Daood that he has gotten married. Hell breaks loose when Daood finds out as he is devastated & can’t imagine what his sister will go through because she loves Abdullah & this also compels him to have second thoughts about his own engagement to Momenah.

Momenah tries to persuade Daood into getting married to her before his mother finds out about Abdullah’s marriage as she knows that Gaitiara will not allow Daood to get married to Momenah as well. Daood does try to convince his mother for his marriage but Gaitiara clearly tells him that she won’t allow it until Deeba is married off to Abdullah.

This much was revealed till now & I feel the pace was good. I did find the beginning scene of the episode a bit too prolonged & felt they should’ve tackled it better because the conversation seemed never-ending & the flashbacks weren’t supporting the whole feel of the conversation but after that the episode picked up the pace & it got me interested. Let’s see what happens next because we have a lot of characters to know the story of. I feel that the fresh young cast will play a great role in the success of the drama but this depends on the director the most as to how he brings out the best in them, let’s see. Share what you thought about the very first episode.

Izteraab – Episode 01!

0

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so sad that I expected something different by looking at the promos of this drama. I know it’s too early to pass a verdict about the story but as far as I can foresee, this drama is another of those infidel love triangle sagas which do have a capability to make your head spin. Written by Amna Mufti & directed by Misbah Khalid – let’s see what this duo has come up with.

When I saw Saba Qamar act like a normal lady as in not as a villain in the promos I thought I definitely will give this drama a try but seems like Mikaal Zulfikar didn’t want to experiment & to be on a safer side, there he is, once again playing a role of a bored husband who’s bored with his wife & is egoistic. Zara (Saba Qamar) is a working woman who handles everything on her own but only expects her husband to acknowledge the efforts she puts in running the house. Surprise surprise, Jazib (Mikaal Zulfikaar) is once again a discontented husband who is not only egocentric but thinks highly of every single female other than his wife. They have a beautiful home with two lovely kids Sofia & Tabrez.

Jazib is now taking care of his Khala (Seemi Raheel) who separated from her husband just because he got married again. Khala has come to stay with Jazib because apart from him she has no one to seek help from. She has an only daughter Dua (Sanyia Shamshad) who’s B.A & Parathas have impressed Jazib so much that he expects his wife to leave everything & try to be like Dua for once & if not totally, she must at least try her hands on parathas by herself which will improve the state of their turbulent married life by heaps.

I must say I really don’t understand why all the working women in our dramas are shown as head-strong females who have a good salary & a dysfunctional marriage to their credit? In reality, I have seen so many working women who know how to maintain a balance between their professional & personal lives. Who excel in their careers & also have a squeaky clean home & kids but sadly none of such character has ever made it to our TV screens. It seems like the writers want to impose the fact that all those working women who leave their homes for their jobs have sulking husbands who miss their presence & a bunch of servants who take care of the house. Seems like Jazib very easily wants to get away with his unfairness by taking his wife for a lunch & by apologizing to her after belittling her, because it was the very same Jazib who just snubbed Zara off as he didn’t want to remind kids of their routine.

Even though Zara has wholeheartedly accepted Jazib’s gesture to help his Khala, Jazib thinks Zara is unhappy because she’s being exposed for not taking care of the home like a normal married woman. Zara on her own feels that Jazib has provided her with everything except loyalty. Khala herself has sussed that Dua’s presence might prove to be a hurdle in Zara & Jazib’s rocky marriage but she unwillingly & hesitantly has chosen to stay because Dua is having a time of her life by making Pink Tea for her Jazib Jee & Parathas for Jazib Jee’s kids. I found it a bit too clingy to see Dua getting so much involved in household chores; I mean who does it these days?

Overall, it was a pretty average episode & a very disappointing start because the story has begun with the negativity. The direction was pretty ohkay but I am not too impressed by the script as yet. I am not sure what the drama will offer because for now it seems like a predictable love triangle & nothing else. For the sake of my wishful thinking I’ll give this drama a chance, so let’s see how it goes! Share your opinion about the very first episode of the drama.
