Bunty I Love You Episode 1 & 2 – Review

0

Nothing about this show attracted me when I saw the promos. I am a fan of Saba Qamar, but her pairing with Noman Habib was a huge blunder in my view since he looked so much younger than her. Even the name of the show was a huge turn off! I had no intentions of watching this show, but one fine day I was just randomly switching channels and ended up watching the show (there was nothing else to watch). And I was seriously taken aback!

The show has such a different story from what we see in dramas nowadays. It is not like the story has not been seen before, but the way it is portrayed in this show is brilliant. Saba Qamar plays the role of Daniya who got married at the age of 17 to a man (Abid Ali) who was more than thrice her age. Not willingly of course, her parents sold her to him for money.

b 1

She lived with Patel for 12 years sincerely, but had never really loved him as she was never able to forget her fiancé, Aamir. She was young and beautiful trapped in a golden cage, and coveted company of people of her age. In all these years, she had never stopped dreaming, but she got her chance to pursue her dreams when her husband died suddenly.

photo 4(2)

It is not like the typical stories where women marry rich men for money and then wait for them to die. She never really cared about his money which was obvious when she got disturbed when he announced that he had written his will. Daniya had not loved Patel, but always respected him. He cared for her a lot, and she never said a bad word for her husband even after he died. But of course, she was glad that she was finally free and could do whatever she wants to with her life. She could finally breathe and feel the world around her. She was 29, and still had a chance to start afresh, and this is exactly what she did.

photo 3(2)

Daniya is shown as a beautiful woman and well, the beautiful part is a bit over emphasized in my view. In every scene, one person or the other kept telling her how beautiful she is which was getting a bit repetitive and annoying. Like every other woman of her age, she likes the attention of men of her age. She appreciates the compliments and attention, but likes to keep away from all of them.

She got the biggest shock of her life when Patel revealed just a few minutes before his death about the truth of her ex-fiancé. She had loved him all these years, and got to know that he had also sold her to Patel just like her parents. That was certainly a wakeup call for her not to trust any men easily.

photo 1(14)

After her husband’s death, everyone thought that they had a chance with her now. But Daniya definitely knows how to deal with all the men. Mr. Chauhan’s character just makes me laugh (I loved the part where his wife shows him his place). Azfer Rehman’s character is shown as a complete playboy, but he is definitely not someone Daniya would fall for.

photo 5(1)

Noman Habib is shown as an innocent, young boy (yes, he is shown younger than Daniya) whom she meets when he has an accident with her car. Now, it will be interesting to see how they will bond. Would a younger boy get involved with an older woman? It will be pretty interesting to watch this!

photo 2(8)

I was not even sure if i was going to review this show or not, but I really wanted to review something different for a change. I initially thought that the story has to do with extra marital affairs and that is something I would never watch. So far, this show looks promising and thankfully, different.

Saba Qamar as Daniya will spell bound you; Nouman Habib has not impressed me yet. Mahmood Akhtar who plays Mr. Chauhan in the show is also pretty good!

So has anybody caught up with this show yet? Do share your views; I would love to hear them.

Pakistan Idol Week 07 – Piano Round 02!

0

Ohkay, that was another interesting lot of a piano round that performed today. I am quite surprised that those who were lost somewhere in the auditions & the theater round came out with a bang & performed extremely well.

I must say the judges are not opening up too much in judging the contestants. I know they may not want to influence the public & their votings but where they have pinpointed some of the mistakes, they have clearly left some of the contestants untouched too. I think the judgements or their opinions should be honest & fair but to completely ignore someone’s mistake isn’t justified.

This lot of 8 people had a lot of power packed performances where a few were disappointing, a lot others were brilliant so I am guessing the people would have to vote it a hard way because only 4 get to qualify where 3 will be chosen by the people & we clearly had a lot more performers who deserve to be qualified – I guess a little more than 4 for sure. Almost all the contestants of this lot were from Lahore except for 3 & also most of them sang the Indian songs *sigh*.

The commentary on the contestants who performed today is as follows:

Kashif Ali (KA) from Lahore sang ‘Arziyaan’ from Hindi movie ‘Delhi 6’. I think undoubtedly his performance was the best amongst the whole lot. He was flawless, he was effortless & he was just perfect. He sang that song beautifully & judges were pretty much impressed too. I didn’t quite agree with what Bushra Ansari said about him running out of breath. This criticism would’ve been justified if she had pin pointed other’s mistakes too but if she didn’t intend to do it, she should’ve let this one pass too because he didn’t deserve any of the negative comments because his voice & singing was absolutely amazing.

Yasir Khan (YK) from Lahore sang ‘Pehla Nasha’ of the Indian movie ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’. I must say I wasn’t quite in fact I wasn’t at all impressed by his singing. He fell flat at so many moments & he literally changed the perfect song to an ordinary one but it was shocking to see the judges commend him for his amazing singing which wasn’t as amazing as the judges claimed it to be. I think they should’ve picked out the negative points too & shouldn’t have let him get away with such a flat singing so easily.

Mehwish Maqsood (MM) from Lahore sang ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ from Indian movie ‘Agent Vinod’. She was impressive & effortless too. The judges appreciated her & Ali Azmat rightly said that she proved herself to be versatile because in the earlier rounds she has sung some folk songs & now this one was of a completely different genre but over all her performance was definitely great.

Mohammad Shoaib (MS) the only contestant from Peshawar sang ‘Kise Da Yaar Na Wichre’ of his favorite idol ‘Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’. Sadly & unfortunately he couldn’t do justice to the song because this was definitely a difficult choice made by him. He was pretty effortless in his auditions but this time he was good & bad both. I still find his voice one of the best one amongst all. The judges picked a lot from his performance but I hope & I am keeping my fingers crossed that he gets a chance again because he is definitely better than many others.

Mohammad Zeeshan (MZ) from Rawalpindi sang ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ from the Indian movie ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. He focused more on his performance & the gestures & sort of ignored his singing. He sounded really one dimensional even though he maintained his confidence but Ali Azmat was right in saying that his voice lacked power. That song really needed the right throw & emotion but Mohammad Zeeshan failed to convey it.

Ali Rizwan (AR) from Faisalabad sang ‘Zara Si Dil Mai De Jagah’ from the Indian movie ‘Jannat’. His performance wasn’t impressive rather it sounded weak. He sang nicely but still it wasn’t enough of a convincing performance to suit the Pakistan Idol stage. The judges didn’t point out any flaws & let him pass without any pointers from their side which I feel isn’t right. It was pretty evident that they weren’t so convinced by his singing.

Sana Zulfikaar (SZ) from Lahore attempted Noor Jahan’s song ‘Dil De Sheeshay’. I must say I had to lower the volume of my TV because she sounded just so shrilly. The judges were going gaga over her performance, no doubt she sang it appropriately but I don’t think she was that impressive. I mean she lacks that power in her voice & that aura to be on the stage.

Abdul Rafay Khan (RK) from Lahore sang ‘Abbhi Mujh Mai Kahin’ of the Indian Movie ‘Agneepath’. He was another one who was flawless. His voice had throw, his voice quality was great & over all his singing was brilliant. Hadiqa Kiyani seemed to be really impressed & so were the other two judges. I am glad that the Piano Round 2 started & ended with such such brilliant performances.

So, these were the performances. I am definitely hoping that Kashif Ali & Abdul Rafay Khan along with Mehwish Maqsood qualify & it would definitely be a surprise to see who fills the 4th place. There would be a tough competition between Sana Zulfikaar & Mohammad Zeeshan but I hope Mohammad Shoaib gets the chance too because he is definitely good.

Who did you like in tonight’s episode & who’s your favorite from the lot & who do you want to see qualify for the next round, do share it? :)

Kabhi Kabhi – Episode 18!

0

Glad that after weeks of focusing on the miseries, there was something new happening in this episode. I must say that the only star of this episode was Mehwish Hayat & her acting. Only she single-handedly held the whole episode together & made me want to see more of her & her life as Eeshal because otherwise the director hasn’t been doing his job wonderfully.

Eeshal has clearly moved on but I think there should’ve been a say from her to her Dad about what she found out in the previous episode. She clearly knows her husband & in-laws were insulted on the night of Baraat so why didn’t she confront her father now because she has done it quite sternly in the past on different occasions. Eeshal’s only way of moving on was to involve herself in her father’s business because after Eva’s gone, she didn’t have much to do anyways.

It was another surprising factor that Eeshal herself didn’t know where Eva went after they got married. It wasn’t obviously like Rehbar shifted to their place immediately after he got married to Eva. He clearly went bankrupt & then moved to Eva’s place so how come Eeshal on her own didn’t know where was Rehbar’s home? At times it was good to see Sunny being supportive of her & helping her understand the real face of her father but then him being extra chummy wherever the baby was concerned was something unusually awful too.

Mehwish Hayat’s acting in that particular scene where she told her in-laws off was spot on, they certainly needed to face the mirror of their realities because that is right, Eeshal never gave them any reason to be against her but it looks like they didn’t deserve such a nice girl like her. Mehwish Hayat done a good job throughout as an actor but I wish the writer wouldn’t have brought down her character a bit, looks like she’s on a loop of confusion where she herself doesn’t know what she wants to do even after finding out the reality of her father – which is totally unlike that Eeshal because her being politely independent & insightful was actually what we all liked about her in the beginning of the drama. I wish she had stayed headstrong till now too.

Soni is nothing but annoying & more than that she is creepy. The way she tries to woo Sunny is worth a puke. Plus I am amazed at how easily she convinced her family that Sunny is ready to get married to her whereas he never said all that. Arez was a typical man when he dealt with Eeshal so how come he wasn’t that typical of a ‘khud’dar bhai’ who could stop Soni from committing all these mistakes & being so outrageous.

Looks like in the due course of helping Eeshal Sunny has fallen for her because in the next episode I think he has already proposed to her. Thankfully there is some progress in the story & I hope the ending is just as similarly paced as this episode because we all are well aware of what & how all that has happened & we are more interested in finding out what will happen.

Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai Episode 6 – The Proposal

0

This had to be the best episode of Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai so far. The focus on Nabeel, like always was slightly irritating at times but I guess we should all accept by now that everyone in the play will stay obsessed with Nabeel in every single episode! Nabeel is head over heels in love with Romaisa’s simplicity and no past track record of course! Our Romeo has made up his mind and nothing that anyone says or does can stop him from marrying Romaissa. Nabeel’s conversation with Zeeshan was definitely worth looking forward to. I was dying to find out if Nabeel will actually have a valid reason for falling for a girl like Romaissa or would the rationale behind his decision stay a mystery as was the case in Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Zeeshan is the only person in Nabeel’s family who does not think he owns Nabeel and he is also the only person who is close enough to tell Nabeel how his decision says a lot about the kind of person he is. Nabeel’s reasons for wanting to marry Romaissa may qualify him as a munafiq but his feelings are very honest. Even with all his shortcomings, I couldn’t help but like Nabeel in this particular episode. I really enjoyed it when Nabeel said to Zeeshan, “jitni understanding tumhari aur Rabiyaa ki hai utni tu ho hi jaye gi”. Zeeshan rightly pointed out that Nabeel’s family will give Romaissa a very tough time because of the circumstances under which he was getting married.

m3
The ring Nabeel gave Romaissa went from her finger into the jar in which she keeps all her “treasure”. The fact that she wore that ring for a little while showed that Romaissa would happily welcome someone who is willing to love her for who she is. All of Alia’s scenes were hilarious as usual. The conversations with Nabeel, the misunderstanding and the manner in which she yelled at Romaissa was very amusing. Romaissa’s character is getting more interesting now that we see her wanting something. She is also reminded of the way her father used to treasure her; it went to show that the love her father showered her with once still is a very important part of who she is today. She is convinced once more now that she too deserves to be loved.

m7
Khala’s expressions when Nabeel’s parents come with the proposal were priceless. Well, it won’t be long before Nabeel convinces her to change her mind. The preview of the next episode was a little too revealing, it would have been nice if the viewers were left wondering how the story will unfold now.

m1
Thankfully this time around we were not shown the reaction of every member of Nabeel’s family but even then the reactions of both the bhabis which were shown back-to-back could have been shorter and to the point. In my opinion, showing Rabbiya’s reaction to the news once was sufficient, the second time around it sounded very repetitive. Am I the only one who felt like Adeel Hussein and Mira Sethi seemed to be trying very hard not to laugh in the restaurant scene?

m6
Tonight’s episode had quite a few scenes that were enjoyable and well executed. Romaissa’s character is getting interesting and so is the story. Some of the dialogues were very witty and the interactions between different characters enjoyable. Sanam Jung looked very pretty in white, I watched this episode with a smile on my face….I am definitely looking forward to the next installment.

Top 5 Real Life Celebrity Couples

0

It is said that ” a successful marriage is an edifice that must be rebuilt everyday”. We often talk about reel life couples who have made a very special place in our hearts which is irreplaceable. On screen couples like Bano and Hassan, Asher and Khirad and a few more leave a deep impression on the viewers because of the on-screen chemistry that the artists playing the characters share. There are many real life couples in our entertainment industry too who look great off screen and also on screen, whenever we get a chance to see them together. Here are the top 5 celebrity couples of our industry.

5. Hira Tareen and Ali Safina

Both of them are very cute and very talented. We do not get to see a lot of Hira or Ali on television but whenever we do they give us something to remember. Hira and Ali compliment each other beautifully. You can see the love they feel for each other just by seeing the way they look at each other. Hira looked beautiful on her engagement and her wedding.

hira ali2hira ali

4. Syra Yusef and Shehroz Sabzwari

They look fantastic off screen and also on screen. They rocked as the young and cute couple in the play Tanhaiyaan Nayee Silsilay. Syra’s and Shehroz’s wedding was the most talked about wedding last year because it was not just the union of two actors/models but also the union of two people who looked fabulous together.

syra shehroz1syra shehroz

Shehroze Sabzwari and Syra met through a mutual fiend. For Shehroze, it was love at first sight but Syra took some time falling for Shehroze. Now that they are finally together, it is plain to see that they were meant to be with each other.

3. Usman Peerzada and Samina Peerzada

These love birds have been together for almost forty years now. Both of them, like all other couples in this list are very gifted and they look wonderful together. Usman and Samina give each other the space they need to grow as individuals. This is the reason they have come so far.

usman saminausman samina1

“You could call our marriage unconventional,” said Samina Peerzada in an interview. “That’s because we both are unconventional people. We like to live life according to our own rules rather than conform to society’s stereotypes.” Their love story is very filmy; Samina Peerzada’s mother did not want her to get married to an actor therefore these two love birds decided to elope! “We got tired of the parental pressure and tied the knot, returning to our respective homes after the ceremony. Then, a few weeks later, on Valentine’s Day itself, we had a proper wedding with our family and friends.” confessed Usman Peerzada in an interview.

2. Aamina Sheikh and Mohib Mirza

I simply love Aamina and Mohib because one aspect of their relationship that is very obvious from their joint interviews is that they respect each other a lot and also have a lot of understanding. I always wanted to see them on screen together. They proved that they can be an unmatchable on-screen couple as well in the film Seedlings (Lamha). Mohib said in one of his interviews “it was great working together but we want to be known for our individual work rather than get typecast as an on-air couple”.

amina and mohibamina mohib

Mohib Mirza and Aamina Sheikh got closer to each other when Aamina was directing a children’s show which Mohib was hosting. It took a lot of hard work to convince Aamina’s father in particular. “Aamina’s family is not involved in the media at all and they had their reservations towards her marrying so soon and that too, to an actor. I met Aamina’s father five times before he gave us his approval,” recalls Mohib in an interview. Both of them are multitalented and excel in their respective fields.

1.Rahat Kazmi and Sahira Kazmi

These two need absolutely no introduction. Although both of them have not been seen in dramas for a long time but they have been engaged with theater and television in some way or the other. They have grown old together but theirs is a relationship which only got stronger with time. Sahira Kazmi has not been seen on screen for such a long time because she has been working on her own private production and also because she is not happy with the way things are progressing in the entertainment sector. While giving an interview she said “Unfortunately, this mushrooming of channels has resulted in an overdose of half-baked professionals who begin as actors, turn into cameramen the next day and directors a day later”.

sahira rahatsahira kazmi

Rahat Kazmi also said in one his interviews “My current state of mind is that I have grown old and that the creativity which used to be there is no longer there”.

sahira rahat2

Rahat Kazmi was the one who suggested Sahira’s name for her first drama, she was a news caster at that time. Rahat said in an interview ““The beginning of our romance was with an argument…. We were going to the TV station. Somebody had commented that the camera work was very conventional and she agreed. I said it suited the material; it was neither conventional nor unconventional. So we started arguing and it has continued till date”! Sahira Kazmi said in an interview “I love and respect him for what he does. He’s highly educated, and he’s done what he’s wanted to do – besides, I have brought humor into his life, which is very important!” She believes in the power of love but also accepts that it takes more than just love to keep a relationship going, ” Love is important, there’s no two ways about it, but that can fizzle out. It is important to trust and respect each other; when you live together and are friends, you figure that out.”

What do you think about the list? Who is your favorite celebrity couple?

Aseer Zadi Episode 22 – Review

0

This show has always been fast paced. but now it is clearly dragging. On one hand, we are getting to see the changes in various people in the haveli and their true faces re being revealed one by one, and on the other hand, the scenes are getting pretty repetitive. It is ironic to see that the two characters I admired in this serial; Peer Jalal and Naseemi have finally shown their true face. I liked Peer Jalal for the aura he emitted even though he was heavily flawed, but I pitied him because of the treatment he got from Badi Sarkar. I liked Naseemi because I thought she was one genuine person in the haveli, but she also turned out to be greedy and selfish. I sympathized with both these characters, but no more!

This show has truly served its purpose; its main theme was to portray how wrong the Peer-Mureedi concept can be if you follow it blindly without questioning anything. Believe it or not but there are still people who follow such customs blindly even in this modern age. I loved the lesson they had shown in the serial.

Finally, Shahab is convinced of Maira’s innocence and has a huge burden on his conscience now. He goes to her only to return disappointed after hearing what she truly wants. He does not have the courage to even convince her anymore because he knows he does not have the right. He did not trust her, and now she has every right to be angry at him. He was even ready to give her what she wanted till Amna Bibi came and made him come back to his senses.

His decision to give divorce to Maira might be sad news for a few, but it is also good news for some other people in the haveli. Yasmeen was happy to hear that Shahab was leaving Maira, and started playing her own games. Naseemi is the one brainwashing her and putting new plans in her mind. Yasmeen was trying to get Shahab back but then she realized that it was of no use since Shahab will eventually marry Fatima even if he divorces Maira. For the first time, Shahab showed Fatima her real place and stood up for Yasmeen. It was a brilliant scene, and the look on both Yasmeen and Fatima’s faces was worth watching!

Badi Sarkar truly regrets all her deeds and surprisingly, the one person who forgave her with all her heart for her misdeeds is Amna Bibi. Amna showed by her behavior that she has accepted her unspoken apology and had seen the guilt in her eyes. Shahab; however, has still not been able to forgive Badi Sarkar completely. He will eventually when he will notice the drastic change in her. She has finally started to act like a mother who truly cares for her son. She even went to Maira to convince her to come home with her, she wants her to come back not only for Shahab, but also to prove that all the Karamats were just plain lies.

One of the best scenes of the episode was when Badi Sarkar finally showed Fatima her true place! Fatima and Sikander both are under the misconception that now when Maira is out of the way; Fatima once again has the chance to become the Badi Sarkar. But now Badi Sarkar knows that she had trusted the wrong people and all the family members of her brother are corrupted just like him. She had heard all the tapes that Fatima had recorded and now she does not even want Fatima to even be around Shahab or the haveli, and she simply showed Fatima the door.

It is clear that Maira still loves Shahab, and now it is just her anger and ego speaking. When she heard that Shahab came to her house, she could not help but run after him. Her mother knows what is in her heart and pointed out that it was obvious that she still care about him otherwise she would have not run after him like that.

Will Maira go back to the haveli now that Badi Sarkar has come to take her back? Will she keep her anger aside and forgive Shahab will all her heart?

Keep watching to find out!

Grease is classic, says Nida Butt

0

Grease has hit the theatre and we have caught NIDA to answer some of our questions so that we can explore the nitty gritty details of the play

Lets hear something about GREASE from the one and only NIDA BUTT

Why Grease?

Everybody loves Grease. I didn’t do it earlier because I wasn’t ever sure how to go about it. About six to seven years ago, I wouldn’t have known how to actually stage something like this, but now we have figured out how to make it work.

It’s the first licensed musical play in Pakistan. How do you feel about that?

We were quite thrilled; it’s a great show of confidence by theatrical rights worldwide to have awarded the license to us. It took me weeks to find the right people to contact, but eventually, we got the rights. It’s the socially responsible and legally correct way to stage Western musicals if we are going to be using their titles.

How did you manage to translate the quintessential American nature of the story for a Pakistani stage?

Grease is a classic, so you can’t really mess with it or tweak it or localise it. It would steal the essence of what Grease is. We wouldn’t do that.

Do you think the actors are going to live up to the expected standards? John Travolta was one of the most charismatic leading men in Hollywood. Is Ahmed doing justice to the role of Danny Zuko?

The talent this time is splendid. We do understand that the characters are so well-known from the movie that we would not want to move too far away from the characterisation of those, but naturally, every actor brings their own flavour. It’s very important that you do that and make it your own, while staying true to the spirit of the character.

How did you manage the costumes and sets?

The costumes are colourful — they’re young and they’re fun. The designers have done a great job bringing back the 50s era. We have managed to create five sets and the integral part is to be able to shift from one scene to another in an instant. I started working on these sets in June last year; it’s been a real thorn in our side. We want people to pay attention to what we have done to the sets and not just the songs and dances.

Some people are complaining that Rs2,000 per ticket is too steep. What do you have to say in response to that?

If you look at theatre around the world, it is not a cheap hobby. You’re paying a couple of hundred dollars for the best shows. We’ll be putting up the best musical show that Pakistan has ever seen. I think they got off easy.

Rubaru – Episode 03!

0

Ohkay so this was more like a filler episode without much going on but it did just focus on the immediate post wedding happenings. I think considering the suspicious & turbulent start of Shabbi’s married life, it was pretty justified that they didn’t show much except a few glances that Shabbi & Surmed exchanged throughout the episode.

It was unusual that Shabbi fell sick on the day of her Reception. She may be traumatized but I guess she recovered from it pretty quickly. Shabbi has always been shown as an introvert but it was unusual to see a girl like Shabbi taking it quite well whatever happened to her immediately after marriage. If it were any other girl who had to go through what Shabbi did, I am sure she wouldn’t be roaming around so casually in her husband’s home & conversing with her housekeeper so candidly. I think they should’ve shown that Shabbi was more concerned about Surmed’s anger fits rather than being worried about who has lived in this house & what has happened to Surmed’s parents.

Surmed’s actual reason of why he got married to Shabbi & why he did all that to her still remains a mystery which will unveil in the future so for now he is quite profoundly putting up with the show of being a good son-in-law in front of Shabbi’s family.

Kiran continues to be annoying & who’s more annoying is her mother. I think she shouldn’t be teaching Kiran ‘miyan ko kabu karne k 101 tareeqe’  because she is going to live in the very same house or probably in a room next door. So, in stead of telling her the otherwise, she must teach her how to bind the whole family together or in stead of making her worried, her mother should let the newly wedded couple enjoy their days of glory because the couple certainly has all the ‘bara burhas’ on their head to lead them. I think it is definitely unnecessary what Kiran’s mother is teaching her because her daughter didn’t get married to a complete stranger nor her in laws are outside the family.

I think Surmed is confused himself because at one moment he looks at her with sincerity & the very next moment he reacts to the dog that has bit him. Not sure what’s happening with him but I am sure he will find a way to be in truce with his past. I am looking forward to a little more revelations in the next episode because seems like Shabbi does resemble Surmed’s lady-love from the past or maybe not. So far no complaints from either the director or the performances of the actors. Everyone’s doing well. :)

Faysal Qureshi and his experimentation with his looks!

0

Faysal Qureshi is one of the most outstanding actors of our time. He is known for his versatility, he can portray every character; whether positive, negative or grey shaded to perfection. Faysal Qureshi being in the cast of a show is enough for its publicity. He has been a part of the industry since he was a child. Faysal started his career as a child artist from PTV’s play Emergency Ward, and also appeared in the play Andhera Ujala. His major acting role as an adult was in the film Saza in 1992, and since then he has never looked back.

He is known for Television shows like Qaid-e-Tanhai, Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishaan, Man-o-Salwa, Manay Na Yeh Dil and many more. He is an excellent morning show host and a good comedian as well. He has hosted many award ceremonies and has also judged a dance reality show. He has played characters that are old, young, deaf, blind. The 40+ actor can easily switch from a college going teenager to a father of a 20 year old son. And the best part is he easily molds himself into his characters! Playing such various types of characters does not only need good acting skills, but also a change in one’s appearance which goes with the personality of the character. He is known for experimenting with his looks for the various characters that he had played over the years.

This is how Faysal Qureshi looked more than two decade back and he has evolved not only as an actor but in terms of physical appearance too. He has changed his hair style, experimented with his facial hair, and even his weight for the different characters he had played.

Have you seen any actor in four different looks in a single show? I am not talking about turning young or old, or putting up a moustache or changing one’s clothes. I am talking about one’s physical appearance in terms of weight. Faysal Qureshi is one actor who has changed his physical appearance in terms of weight four times for the show Meri Unsuni Kahani. Here are the four looks he sported in the serial:

For almost every show, Faysal Qureshi has a different look. Here are the few looks in different drama serials:

Ishq Mein Tere – Episode 08!

0

Ohkay, so another week of interesting episode. I am glad that the pace of the drama has not slowed down. Week after week, one way or the other they do have something new going on.

To add to Aiza’s woes, her brother has crossed all the limits & got himself involved in gambling. For that reason & in order to pay off the debtors he needed 5 lacs for which he obviously emotionally blackmailed Aiza into helping him. Aiza who just couldn’t do anything obviously had to say no but in the end Aiza’s bhabhi ended up helping her husband. Aiza obviously couldn’t tell what she was going through because no one would’ve understood her state of mind especially when her own brother was mentally scattered.

Even though Sheheryar proposed Aiza after mustering up a lot of courage, he later regretted doing it because he thought the time wasn’t right. Aiza’s self utterances in this whole episode were honest & well-communicated. She did feel that Sheheryar misunderstood her friendliness & her advices to get married. She only did that out of sheer courtesy but never knew she’d be the one who’d seem suitable to Sheheryar for filling up the emotional void in his life. Aiza’s resignation was the best fit reaction she could think of given the circumstances because she didn’t want to make things awkward for both herself & her boss Sheheryar Hamdani.

Even though Aiza’s brother understood the hell he has been putting up his family into, I guess he ran a bit too late. His realizations seemed just like mere excuses because it still looks like he might just not change at all as he is immuned to being financially supported by his sister. Even though Bakhtiyaar does feel that Aiza puts up with a lot for the sake of keeping this family afloat, he still doesn’t feel like contributing a bit for his own family.

In the meanwhile, Saad’s mother who wanted to lay her opposition in front of Sheheryar didn’t find a suitable chance because Cuckoo swooped in. Cuckoo has quite tactfully found the way to be friends with Laiba & that is by speaking to her about Saad & their potential future. I actually thought Laiba was a bit wise enough but she fell prey to the trap quite easily.

I think even though Sheheryar Hamdani is still a good choice for Aiza but her excuse of getting married to him is wrong. She is just now only thinking about her family because obviously she knows after getting shot by a bullet, her brother can be upto anything possible. For her, the people who matter the most are her brother’s children & for them she is ready to go out of the way to get married to her boss so that she can save their future. In the next episode, she is definitely getting married & I am sure Saad would still have to find out about what happened to his one-sided love.

Hum Tehray Gunaahgar Photoshoot!

Hum TV always manages to bring a better idea just after a good one ends. Hum Tehray  Gunaahgar is its next drama which tends to attract a decent viewership partly because of its cast and partly because of its story. The story of this new serial revolves around the lives of the Zakaria family. The character of Zakaria is portrayed as a rich businessman who is wealthy enough to adopt two children, though he had his. His wife Aisha is diagnosed cancer which changes their lives completely.

This drama seems to have adopted the famous onscreen name ‘Zaroon’ for its lead role where Zaroon is shown as an adopted child who falls in love with a girl named Malaika. Their secret marriage further gives the Zakaria family a serious blow where Aisha lands up taking a decision which becomes the turning point of their lives.

The cast of the drama includes Danish Taimoor, Farhan Ali Agha, Jia Ali, Anushay Abbasi, Mansha Pasha, Ushana Hawala, Sara Khan and Mohsin Gillani in lead roles.

Here are some of the pictures which were taken during the official photo-shoot of the drama. Have a look!

Those who don’t sing for money – Sufi artists

0

Of all the forms of devotional music, Sufi music, despite being age-old, has the ability to appeal to modern sensibilities. It encapsulates a facet of Eastern spirituality that can entrance anyone with its message of love. Celebrating this unparalleled, mystical magic of Sufi kalam, Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW) organised its 12th Annual Mystic Music Festival from January 10 till January 12.

The festival is a commendable medium to project the Sufi path that gets one in touch with the soul. The three-day event is perhaps one of the most widely attended events organised by RPTW. The platform makes Sufi music accessible for the genre’s enthusiasts.
But other than the gripping kalam, what attracts a following for Sufi music are the artistes themselves, whose history and traditions are worth knowing. In a backstage conversation with some of the musicians performing at the festival, We explore the various aspects of their lives as Sufi singers.

The family of musicians, called Shah Jo Raag, who sing at the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai have maintained their 400 year long tradition and kept close to their roots. There is nothing commercial about their craft and there is potent spirituality in their music.

Muhammed Ismail Mirjat, who is a direct descendent of Shah Jamal, says that every Thursday, the singers gather after the Isha prayer and sing for the rest of the night and on the event of an Urs, they sing consecutively for three days.
“This has been going on since three hundred years. We have never missed a day at the shrine and we perform without any money/salary to sustain ourselves; it is pure devotion and no night has been empty,” says Mirjat.

Saeein Ghulam Abbas of the Madhu Lal Group adds that although the musicians hail from different backgrounds, they all wish to enter the dervish mode while performing, through the song, the sound of the dhol or dance. Having travelled around the globe, he says that it is praiseworthy that the festival pays homage to the complete devotion and purity of the centuries-old Sufi poetry and songs.

“I think if a hundred people came to any of our shows, they will develop faith in the Sufi way because it’s the way of peace and calm,” says Abbas. “There is a fear that we may become extinct, but let me say that whenever the Sufi message is discussed, people do gather.”

The festival brought together some of the most renowned Sufi artistes this week, including Sanam Marvi, Saeein Zahoor, Pappu Saeein, Akhtar Chinar and Arieb Azhar. Each day had its own charm, and with its greatly designed set-up and impeccable sound system, the event had a high entertainment quotient.

On its last day, the show started with an act by Mehboob Mian Miri qawwal and was reminiscent of the days when the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan could captivate any crowd with his live performances. On the recommendation of Saidaan Peerzada of RPTW, the qawwal tried a first-off fusion performance with Rafaqat Ali Khan, for which he harmonised his traditional qawwali with Khan’s contemporary classical music.

Krishnan Lal Bheel from Cholistan, who performed primarily in his local Marvai language, sees the festival as an institution that has, in modern times, given a platform to Sufi artistes both locally and internationally.

While Sufi and folk music continues to embark upon its aim of touching the soul of the masses, Bheel says that the government must do more to preserve the art. “If the government would give us some support, it would help make [Sufi and folk] music thrive again. Many of our elders are leaving slowly because they cannot sustain themselves and don’t receive much emphasis or protocol,” says Bheel.

It is fitting to see Sufi artistes, who rarely get the opportunity to display their art in the mainstream, being offered a prestigious channel to do so in the form of the RPTW Mystic Music Festival.

Top 10 Drama OST’s of 2013

0

We get to see countless number of OST’s of dramas every year. OST’s are an integral part of any show as it serves as a source of marketing strategy for the show. Producers invest heavily in OSTs and a show is considered incomplete without one. Even if the cast is average and fails to catch the audience’s attention, then a melodious OST can definitely be useful to attract viewers.

Here are the top 10 OSTs that certainly got my attention last year:

dil-e-muzter

1) Dil-e-Muzter:

Dil-e-Muzter’s OST tops my list because it not only has the melodious voice of Alycia Dias, but also the beautiful lyrics written by Imdad Hussain. The song was composed by the very famous Waqar Ali who has given us the most popular OSTs over the years.

kankar

2) Kankar:

I was a bit confused about which OST to put on the first place because my two favorite OSTs of this year are of Kankar and Dil-e-Muzter, but Dil-e-Muzter gained extra brownie points for the beautiful poetry in it. Kankar’s OST ‘Yeh Sheesha dil maskan tera’ is once again sung by Alycia Dias and composed by Waqar Ali.

zindagi gulzar hai

3) Zindagi Gulzar Hai:

Every aspect of this show was brilliant; the story, cast, direction, and production. Then how is it possible that its OST would not match up to the viewer’s expectation? The OST had two version; male and female. The male version was sung by Ali Zafar while the female version was sung by Hadiqa Kayani. Both versions were superb in their own place. The female version had a slower tune while the male version was more upbeat. The song was composed by Shani Haider and lyrics were done by Naseer Turabi. I must say, this song was a beautiful composition!

aasmanon pay lika

4) Aasmanon Pay Likha:

This show and its OST generated interest amongst many viewers when its promos went on air. The show did not live up to the expectations of many, but its OST definitely did. The OST is sung by Sohail Haider who has given us countless hit OSTs in the past of shows like Dastaan, Mastana Mahi, and many more.

shakk

5) Shukk:

When Shukk’s promos went on air, they did not interest me at all because the show seemed to have a very typical story. However, its OST is what captured my interest and I was hooked to it. Then after watching an episode or two by fluke, I had to change my perception about the show too. It’s a typical story portrayed in a very different way! The OST is sung by Nabeel Shaukat Ali (Surkshetra’s winner). He has a brilliant voice which just makes you want to hear the song again and again.

numm

6) Numm:

This show might have hugely disappointed us all, but it OST is definitely a winner. If I had to point out three things good in the show, then it would be Fawad Khan, Sania Saeed and its OST. Its OST ‘Mumkin Hai Chashm-e-Numm’ was written by Ahsan Talish (the director of serial), and composed by Muhammad Agha. The song is sung by the talented Faiza Mujahid who rose to fame by the song Bandya Ho from the 2006 film, Khuda Kay Liyeah.

meri zindagi

7) Meri Zindagi Hai Tu:

The next OST in my list is of the show ‘Meri Zindagi Hai Tu’. The show might have not gained popularity but its OST definitely has. It is sung by Nouman Javaid and Shabnam Majeed. A beautiful OST which leaves one spell bound! The lyrics and composition both are absolutely brilliant!

darmiyaan

8) Darmiyaan:

‘Khalish aur khushi ke darmiyaan’ is another beautiful OST sung by Nabeel Shaukat Ali who has once again weaved magic with his voice. The song is composed by Sahir Ali Bagga and the lyrics are penned down by Mubashir Hassan.

photo 4

9) Pyaray Afzal:

What I really like about Pyaray Azal’s OST is its beautiful lyrics! ‘Jane woh kaise log thay…’ is a very well composed and written song which instantly caught my attention when it was played during its promos. The song is sung by the popular composer and writer, Waqar Ali. He has proved that he is not only a good composer, but also a great singer.

kabhi kabhi

10) Kabhi Kabhi:

The uniqueness in the OST of Kabhi Kabhi lies in its different tune. The song ‘Kabhi kabhi wafa mili…’ is very well composed by Waqar Ali and it is sung by Alycia Dias. The simple but unique lyrics are written by Khalil Ur Rehman.

Other than the 10 OSTs above, there have been a few others that have captured our interest like the OSTs of shows like Ranjish Hee Sahi, Pachtawa, Ek Kasak Reh Gaee, Talkhiyaan, Adhoori Aurat, Khoya Khoya Chand, Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai, and Mere Humrahi.

Feel free to add to the list!

Nour Aslam’s take on Pakistani Art

0

The business of buying and selling artwork is a fascinating one. The dynamics of the art world have been dictated by the market, and this market constitutes a number of significant art collectors. Just like an accessory sported by an established celebrity becomes popular, items collected by art-loving heavyweights add to their value.

It all depends on where a piece of art finds its home. Throughout the course of time, collectors have lent impetus to the art market and played a major role in the success of many artists.

Nour Aslam, head of South Asian and Contemporary Art at privately-owned British auction house, Bonhams, talks us about how Pakistani art is trending in the international market.

“The Indians are a factor in driving up the Pakistani art market,” says Aslam. “They find Pakistani art aesthetically pleasing and cheaper than Indian artwork.”

Aslam, who is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College Bronxville, New York, has been working at Bonhams in London for four and a half years. She deals with modern and contemporary art from Turkey and Bangladesh, among other places.

Commenting on the inextricable link between art collectors and an artist’s success trajectory, she says, “In some instances, a major collector can change the fate of an artist, and the two go hand in hand. If there was no Gertrude Stein, there would be no [Pablo] Picasso, and if there was no Picasso, there would be no Gertrude Stein.” Not only was the success of these artists contingent on how talented they were and how good their work was, but also on the basis of who liked and bought their creations.

Aslam shares that one of the most imperative factors that contributes to an artist’s success is international collectors. “[Abdur Rahman] Chughtai spent time in Austria, Bashir Mirza in Holland, and Sadequain in Paris, and this exposure was crucial for their success because their work was collected by people abroad.”

Interestingly, another determinant of the success of artists is how accessible their work is. In some cases, the more available an artist is, the less the worth is of his/her work. In most instances, it takes years before an artist’s work becomes worthy of being a collectable. “Most of the famous Pakistani artists gifted their work to their friends and it is after their lifetime that they became collectors’ items,” Aslam says.

Having studied studio art, Aslam plays a crucial role in the prestigious auction house that was founded in 1793 and has 66 locations worldwide. “Once a piece of art is asked to be auctioned off, we have to authenticate it, catalogue it, research the artist and the origins of the work, value the piece and then sell it.” Size, medium and condition of the piece, along with who the artists are and what their background is, are all factors that are considered when a certain piece is being evaluated.

Contemporary artists, such as Imran Qureshi, Aisha Khalid, Rashid Rana, Faiza Butt, Mohammad Ali Talpur, Ali Kazim and Khadim Ali are gaining ground internationally. Aslam talks about the impact that their work is making in the Western markets. “Pakistani contemporaries are being showcased at the Venice Biennale and are getting the Western exposure they need,” she states. “When international art fairs, museums and galleries pick up an artist, they ensure that the right people see the work.” Just like any industry, even the art market depends on both where you showcase your work and who sees it.

With an ever-evolving art market, and certain forms of art and artists going in and out of fashion, Aslam urges people to not hesitate to buy what they personally like. “You have to live with the work; hence, you should love it,” she says.

Love is in the air – Veena and Asad Khattak

0

Actor Veena Malik’s life has always been chock full of controversies. Hence, her decision to not settle down before 2015 seemed quite apt at the time she released a statement regarding her plans to get married. However, staying true to her spontaneous self, Veena took everyone by surprise when she tied the knot with Dubai-based businessman Asad Bashir Khan Khattak

“It all just happened as destiny would have it. We met at the US Consulate in Dubai, where he had come for some paperwork and I was there for an interview. Later, as I walked out he followed me and introduced himself,” shares Veena. “The conversation landed on the fact that both of our fathers were from the Army. Eventually, when our parents were introduced, we found out that our fathers were in fact friends from their time in the Army.”

While it surely seems to be a case of ‘accidental love’, what is more astounding is that they got hitched within 10 days of meeting. “He proposed to me within just five days of our introduction and I was taken aback. I asked him ‘when’ and he just said, ‘tomorrow’,” says Veena.

Following the sudden proposal was a whirlwind nikkah ceremony and an intimate lunch for friends and family. The sheer speed with which Veena’s life has taken a turn is potentially a testament to the widespread romantic notion, ‘when it’s right, you just know’. “He is the man of my dreams. He loves and he adores me. I have found him to be a very interesting, loving and caring person. He is the man I want to spend my entire life with,” says Veena, who is clearly smitten with Khattak.

However, it was only in November last year that the media was abuzz with reports of her getting married to businessman Umar Farooq because they were reportedly in love. “Umar and I clicked as friends; there was nothing more between us but the media created a lot of hype!” asserts Veena.

For now, Veena is looking forward to new beginnings and busy planning her wedding ceremonies; one each in US and Dubai and two in Pakistan. The one in the US is expected to be a grand white wedding, just the way she wants, whereas the two functions in Pakistan will be held at Rawalpindi and Kohat.

While Veena seems to have made up her mind on letting bygones be bygones, news of her marriage wasn’t welcomed pleasantly and was overshadowed by her past. Rumours about her ex digital manager Prashant Pratap Singh, hacking into the privacy of her account and accusing her of fraud and betrayal were rampant soon after her marriage. But Veena says she is unbothered and considers it to be unimportant.

“Oh, that is now a thing of the past. Yes, the account was hacked, but now we will sort it out via a court battle. I have already planned to take legal action against him,” she clarifies. “I was at the peak of my career. [But as] always, I listened to my heart and life is amazing now. I have been blessed with the most loving husband and the most amazing in-laws. In showbiz, you do face rumours and people are still in shock about my nikkah, but this is reality.”

Having remained in B-town for quite a while, Veena is now planning to move to Washington with her newfound love. “India was only meant for work. I knew that from the beginning and hence, I never invested in a house or a car. I will be living in Washington now but I will still continue working as well as singing,” she says.

Luckily for Veena, her husband also seems to be in complete awe of her. “Veena is a complete package. She is a wife and a friend to me,” says Khattak. In the wake of recent controversies, Khattak was quick to support his wife, asking her fans to follow her new Twitter account and he remains firm on protecting her in future, as well. “I am a Pathan and I know how to protect my wife. She will be my wife forever,” says Khattak.

Pakistani Celebs : Before & After Cosmetic Surgery.

0

At times, it becomes difficult to spend whole of the income when one earns too much (especially our showbiz celebs). So, all that comes in their minds is to experiment with their looks. Of course, consequences are not always same;  Few of them are the lucky ones while for some people, this change turns out to be disastrous.  As a result, it has become so hard to find out genuine beauties onscreen and we always come up with a question in our minds, is it some surgery that is making her look so beautiful?

My list contains Pakistani Celebs whose surgeries ruined their looks especially when it comes to their facial expressions whereas few of them were the lucky ones and their surgery gave an additional spark to their looks.

1 . Vaneeza Ahmed :

Vaneeza had her rhinoplasty (nose job) and it turned out to be successful. She has better, defined and pointed nose after having her nose job.

d2 . Sadia Imam :

Sadia Imam’s surgery has left her in trouble. Surgeries like nose job, botox, cheek implants, eye brow lift and augmented lips turned out to be a complete failure for her. She looked innocent earlier and after having her surgeries not only her innocence is lost but she also looks like “plastic ke artificial doll” to me.

mjpg

3. Noor :

Film star and host Noor had successful nose surgery and her nose looks much more pointed and adds to the beauty of her face after her surgery.

4. Mehwish Hayat:

For me, the best results of any surgery I have seen till now are the aftermaths of  Mehwish’s  cosmetic surgery. The lip job and the nose job made her look much more beautiful and classy. By the way, I never knew Mehwish before her surgery so, its her surgery that made her prominent in the world of television.

b

5. Sara Loren:

The only girl, for whom I feel so pity is Sara Loren. She had such a beautiful look before her lips augmentation. I always defined her as naturally bestowed beauty of Pakistani Industry. Alas ! Her desire to look more beautiful ended up nowhere but made her lips look like those of duck.

h

6. Hadiqa Kiani:

Hadiqa had her nose job few years back and it has been reported that she has gone through face lifting too. With whatever done to her face, she looked nice before her surgery and after too.

o7. Amina Haq

We heard that Amina was thinking to commit suicide after her surgery. She had such a bubbly look before her cheeks implant and lip augmentation.Surgery turned out to be disastrous for her.

8. Mahnoor Baloch

Mahnoor Baloch was a natural beauty and now that she is getting older; she is having every type of treatment that can make her look young. From skin injections to face lifting, everything is working positively for her. But , I miss those expressions at her face.

c

9. Fawad Khan

Fawad has a huge fan following since he was lead vocalist in EP band. His fans multiplied when he started his acting career. He looked fine before his nose job and even after that and I seriously never understand why he had to do this.. :P

10. Nadia Hussain

Top Model Nadia’s surgery had same results as that of Sadia Imam. Her face looked so stretched and she is lacking expressions after her surgery.

Who is looking better and who is worst according to you?

Do share your thoughts about increasing trend of cosmetic surgeries these days.

QMobile Tvc- A Disappointment

0

QMobile’s new Tvc created quite a buzz on social media right from the moment when Kareena was signed for it. It is the biggest budget ad ever made in the advertising history of Pakistan, most of it clearly went into Kareena Kapoor’s pocket and rest was wasted on her attire and styling. This biggest budget Tvc however is a disappointed in every regard. I will not comment on the cell phone, it is purely about the advertisement, its budget and outcome.

It’s not that I’m against Kareena Kapoor but honestly any leading Pakistani model or actress could have done way better job than her. Kareena charges quite a sum for international brand ads, for this advertisement she had to travels abroad since it was shot in Thailand for which there were additional charges. All in all Kareena charged 14 million INR roughly equal to more than 2 crore PKR. On the other hand production team for the advertisement was called from New York.

Kareena-Kapoor-Q-Mobile-Ad-Picture-3a (1)

I understand Q-Mobile is not a Pakistani company and for them its not mandatory to take Pakistani models but still… There are few reasons why a Pakistani celeb could have been more suitable:

1- She obviously got the biggest chunk out of the budget and any Pakistani celeb would’ve cost trifle as compared to her.

2- Pakistani beauties like Mahira Khan, Mehreen Raheel or Ayyan are not only regal beauties they are equally stylish and trendy and would have carried any of the styles gracefully and elegantly, their record of working in Tvcs speaks itself.

3- Kareena Kapoor seems like she is overacting a bit in the ad, even the expressions are mismatched at some places. Pakistani Showbiz have countless actresses could have worked better with genuine expressions.

Kareena-Kapoor-Q-Mobile-Ad-Picture-5
Apart from that none of her clothes or hairstyles is appealing or maybe my aesthetic sense starts hibernating when this ad comes on air. The black/purple gown and the white/green/black blazer or whatever it is are particularly hideous. She looks comparatively better in the last part attired in black with fairly better hairstyle too but who can carry red lipstick than our very own MK?? And the way Kareena utters “I Noir, do you?” is out and out annoying. The CEO of Qmobile stated the reason behind her casting was her huge fan following in Pakistan. Taking in account the budget, international model and production team, this ad is a disappointment.

Pakistan Idol Week 06 – Results!

0

Oh my, what a nerve wrecking episode of Pakistan Idol. I wasn’t expecting myself to be so much involved in Pakistan Idol ever since it began, but I must confess I am definitely feeling the otherwise. I am absolutely enjoying how they have divided the contestants in groups & then their results are declared with a perfect format too. 3 of the contestants are selected by the public voting whereas judges get to choose 1 out of the four to qualify for the next round.

I must say that the way they have made the contestants sing once again to avail that last chance is a well thought process. Fortunately, they didn’t base their judgements on the previous perfomances & made them sing again to rest their final verdict forward. We have discussed everything about Pakistan Idol but I must say that the stage & the whole studio along with the Idol lounge is beyond words impressive. I am glad that they lived upto the name & the image of Pakistan Idol. Considering the fact that this is the very first season of Pakistan Idol, they for sure made it larger than life & I absolutely love the signature theme music of Pakistan Idol, it just gets you into the mood. The band is great too & by all means they are adding the wow factor to the performances.

I really don’t know if this is a coincidence or what but I couldn’t help noticing Hadiqa Kiyani’s freemasonic ‘All Seeing Eye’ earrings. I think they themselves are in the media & are close to understand the conspiracies that the media is getting involved into but to actually see her wearing a ‘Pyramid with an all-seeing eye’ earring, it was a shocker. It may be coincidence & if it is not, it speaks volumes about what their priorities are.

Well, now coming to the results, the very first duo that came up for results was of Waqas Ali & Midhat Hidayat. By all means it was evident that in comparison to Midhat, Waqas would be qualified & I am glad he did because no doubt his performance was flawless & all the three judges were impressed.

The second duo that came in for the results was of my two favorite contestants Waqas Ali Vicky & Rosemary. It was heart breaking to see Waqas Ali Vicky not being able to make it in the very first go. Even though I was glad for Rosemary but was equally sad for Waqas Ali Vicky.

The third duo was of Abdul Ahad & Waqar Ehsin. & based on their performances, it was an intelligent choice by the public to have not voted for them extraordinarily because their singing was definitely weak in comparison to the other contestants.

The fourth duo was of Sajid Abbas & Fizza Javed. I think it was one of the most neutral duo that surfaced because even though Sajid Abbas got selected & if in his place Fizza was qualified, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference because they both were good but definitely Fizza’s performance had a weak start but ended brilliantly.

The ending of the results round was absolutely amazing. Both the contestants selected by judges had to perform once again. Waqas Ali Vicky once again sang a slow melodious punjabi song ‘Kaddi Aa Mil Saajan/Savan (not sure)’ & Midhat tried to show her versatility by attempting a different genre & she sang a Hindi movie song ‘Mahiya Mahiya’. Even though Midhat tried her best & had a great start but definitely her flat singing was quite audible. At some moments it looked like a novice was singing a song on such a big stage so for that I am glad Waqas Ali Vicky got selected. PHEW, because he is definitely good.

& by this I feel I’ve become an ‘antar yaami’ (forture-teller) lol because the four contestants who got selected are the ones I picked in my Friday show review. LOL! But I am glad that both Waqas Ali Vicky & Rosemary got selected along with Waqas Ali & Sajid Abbas.

The 8 contestants who will perform this week are Kashif Ali, Mohammad Yasir Khan, Mehwish Maqsood, Mohammad Shoaib, Ali Rizwan, Zeeshan Ali, Sana Zulfikaar & Abdul Rafay Khan. That is another interesting line-up & among these I am looking forward to the performances of Mehwish Maqsood, Mohammad Shoaib & Zeeshan Ali. I hope these three qualify too because I’m blessing them with my magic wand. :D

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

5 Celebrities Who Could Do Better as Judges in Pakistan Idol!

0

If you are music freak or a reality show lover, a housewife or a student, in short any one, you have one thing common with every other person here and that is the busy slots which you have reserved for Pakistan Idol. It is certainly a moment of proud to have our own reality show with so much of talent representing Pakistan. Now that we have our 24 contestants finalized, it is really important to rethink about the selection of the judges for Pakistan Idol. I, personally, am ok with Hadiqa  Kiyani and Bushra Ansari and their judging capabilities but as for Pakistan Idol, we had some better music icons who could have done a real better job.

Here are 5 of my favorite judges whom I wanted to see as judges. Let us see how many of you agree this time.

1)      Abida Parveen

4

Abida Parveen would have been a perfect match for a show as big as Pakistan Idol. She was invited as judge in Voice of India preciously and also judged the joint venture of Pakistan and India.

2)      Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

RFAK

It was extremely a shock not to see him judging it in the first place. After watching ‘Rishtay Kuch Adhooray se’, I started assuming that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan would be judging Pakistan Idol for sure but his absence has not only disappointed me a lot but has also raised questions on the selection committee of  Pakistan Idol.

3)      Sajad Ali

402060699_640

Sajad Ali was previously considered for this judging but somehow things didn’t work and he was dropped out of the choices. Sajad Ali’s presence would have added more charm to this reality show.

4)      Shafqat Amanat Ali

Shafqat-Amanat-Ali-Manchala

Not even Shafqat? I mean we have some great musical icons and none of them have actually been offered this huge responsibility?

5)      Waqar Ali

Waqar_Ali_picjpg_5_xfbzf

Waqar Ali is the most popular composer here in Pakistan and could have been a good option for judging the show.  Not to mention, Anu Malik in Indian Idol has had been the only consistent judge as it is important to have a composer in the judging panel.

All from my side! Are you satisfied with the judging capabilities of the selected judges? Please Share.

Celebrities you love to hate-A quick List

0

There are some of our celebrities who are found to have a firm believe on a famous saying ‘Badnaam Gar Hongay To Kya Naam Na Hoga?’ and for that they are unanimously  hated by Pakistanis all over the world.  Let us now see how far you agree with this list!

1)      Zardari

zardari

The former president of Pakistan, the husband of Benazir, the father of Bilawal, stands first on the list. He has had been in the politics soon after his marriage with Benazir Bhutto. He took the lead of one of the most influential political parties of Pakistan and was soon elected as the President of Pakistan after the death in an assassination attempt on Benazir. Throughout his govern, Pakistan’s economy kept suffering and he stayed unbothered about the recessions which forced his own countrymen hate him.

2)      Mathira

mathira

Everyone in the showbiz desires to earn fame and popularity and for that, some of them choose the way to win the hearts with their hard work and talent, while some of them win screens by selling their morality. Mathira started her career as a late night live TV host where her boldness and controversial dialogues got her some recognition. She tried to launch herself as a singer with her soundtrack ‘Jadugar’ which too failed badly. The actress is now looking towards India and will now also be seen in some Indian movies.

3)      Veena Malik

veeena

Veena, despite of all her talents in the field of acting, comedy and mimicry, has lost her respect in the eye of Pakistani audience after her FHM magazine controversy. It seems like India will now be her major target as there is hardly an open vacancy for Veena within the country. People love to hate her for all her melodramas and cheapness that are increasing day by day.

4)      Aamir Liaqaut

Aamir-Liaquat1

He seemed to be a sober man initially when he was first seen hosting AalimOnline. People, including me, started respecting him as a person but wonders to this, his other side was soon reflected in a leaked video where he was seen using abusive language during the show in the breaks. He on screen image was severely destroyed but after fixing his issues with the channel, Aamir was again given the limelight on the same channel.

No matter how far the channel now highlights him, the impression his leaked video has placed on him, is hard to get rid of.

5)      Waqar Zaka

photo

Probably for his bluntness or for his daring attitude, Waqar Zaka took his reality show ‘Living on the edge’ to a level of prominence. However, he taken as an irritating soul by majority of the sober audience, hence, is found in this list.

6)      Sahir Lodhi

1 (1)

I still remember how much I used to follow his live show on FM 103 seven year back. He, for his resembling voice with Shahrukh Khan has done some great work on radio but just like Aamir Liaqaut, he too fell for quick. Sahir Lodhi becomes unbearable at times for his overacting.

7)      Meera

Lollywood and Meera are two of those entities which want to be in news. Meera has now lost her charm which she had been enjoying for her work in Lollywood. Her latest video controversy has further forced the audience to reconsider their thoughts about Meera.

8)      Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai

Though this young girl has taken a bullet for her love towards education and the support she had been showing for the promotion of education in Pakistan, many citizens suspect her truthfulness and suspect her for playing a role written by foreign authorities. While the world respects her for her bravery, Pakistanis still have second thoughts about her.

9)      Hamid Mir

bidToKillHamidMir_Nov26_201

These days if you are blunt, batameez and frustrated, congratulations, you have all the qualities to become a host. Hamid Mir, again a character launched by GEO TV, is hated by many of the viewers for his wrong analysis when it comes to India. Many of the viewers also started considering him as a RAW agent on the basis of his controversial statements.

These were the people who are hated by majority of the people here in Pakistan, I could think of. It is now your turn to add more to the list.

Wishes,

Nida Zaidi

Shukk – Episode 13

0

Here I am reviewing a play (out of my own free will) which I didn’t even think I would watch to begin with and that to me is the real success of team Shukk. I had my serious reservations about this play because lately plays written by Samira Fazal start off on a very good note but after a few episodes the story comes to a standstill and all that is left to enjoy are the characters that you fell in love with. Sanam Saeed and Adeel Hussain are two of my favorite actors so I started watching this show only because of them but very soon I found myself looking forward to more because Shukk has to be the most engaging play on air right now. The overall idea may not seem very appealing or novel but the way the story has progressed and the manner in which it has been presented on screen is outstanding. Shukk has a strong plot, a very engaging screen play and an excellent cast.

s7

Sehrish ended up doing what Maham had “advised” her to do. She has come to the point where she is not willing to believe anything other than what she already believes. I must give credit to Samira Fazal for coming up with a very strong plot this time around. Sehrish and Ehtisham’s state of mind at the time when Maham told Sehrish about Sania was such that the misunderstanding between the two seemed more believable. They had a very strong bond but at that particular time they were very vulnerable emotionally, especially Sehrish.

s1

Ehtesham’s statement “Agr tumhari in harkaton ki waja se us ka ghur kharab huva tu phir mein jo karun ga vo tum sari zindagi yaad rakho gi” did not help the present situation at all. His reaction however was justified because he has not done anything wrong and neither has Sania. Sehrish’s guilt pangs were successfully suppressed by Maham who for some odd reason is convinced that Ehtesham is emotionally involved with Sania. Maham’s character is very annoying but sadly she is one person many married women come across at least once in life! Most people can’t see other’s happy. If a married couple is picture perfect, people around them will try to find faults in their relationship in some way or the other. Unfortunately, two such people are very close to Ehtesham and Sehrish. Such people will do anything to make you miserable and just like Maham, they do it by triggering your weak point. In the past Maham continuously kept on reminding Sehrish that she will probably never have a child again as opposed to reminding her of all the great things in Sehrish and Ehtesham’s relationship. Maham is one of those people who keep on envying others rather than counting their own blessings. Jealousy is incurable and makes you do things that can ruin other people’s lives. Sadly, Sehrish has fallen prey to Maham’s negative mindset and keeps on turning to her for advice. Maham is what you call a toxic friend. Ayesha Khan is perfect as Sehrish but she really needs to pay attention to her hairstyles which are continuously changing not just in this play but in all of the plays she has starred in lately. When Sehrish is in the car and at Sania’s house, her hair is tied in a braid but when she gets back home they are nicely combed and loose.

s6

Ali’s mother’s reaction to his decision was priceless! Badar Khalil is spot on as the controlling Mother In Law. She could not stand to see Sania working on her own terms and conditions and now she is lost without her! This woman has a love/hate relationship with Sania; she knows her worth and she also knows that she is a good wife but she won’t admit it to her son until she knew that she may lose her forever. I have always seen her as a very insecure woman.

s2

The focus on Roomi all through the play has been commendable. Usually in plays like Shukk there isn’t much focus on children but in this play Roomi is as important as rest of the characters and the child star playing the character deserves a lot of appreciation.

This was yet another superbly directed episode of Shukk; There wasn’t a single scene that was out of place or irrelevant. In the beginning episodes as well, the introduction to the characters was quick and interesting unlike many of the other drama serials nowadays. I am waiting to find out how Ehtesham is going to react when he finds out about what happened in Sania’s house. Will Ali succumb to Roomi and his mother’s pressure and bring Sania back home? It is highly unlikely that he is going to do that, well I guess we will just have to wait another week to find out.

Do share your thoughts about this latest installment.
