There have been a few exceptions as a few films from Indian Punjab have released here and now The Legend of Maula Jatt is going to release in Indian Punjab and Delhi despite the bans.
This is definitely a treat for all Fawad Khan fans across the border who was banned from working there by Hindu extremists a few years ago. A recent order by Delhi court has for the time being suspended the release of the film in the capital though. Here is how the fans are reacting to the news of The Legend of Maula Jatt releasing in India:
The Legend of Maula Jatt is hands down the most successful film in the history of Pakistan. The film crossed 10 million dollars internationally and became the first film to gross 100 crore on the domestic box office on the New Years Eve. It has set massive standards for the upcoming films and increased expectations from not only Bilal Lashari but also the entire cast.
The film due to its massive demand was all set to release in India as well with Zee Studios having acquired the rights to screen it. It was going to release in Delhi and the Indian Punjab when the fans of the trailer as well as Fawad Khan were dying to watch it on the silver screens.
The film was however then held back as it did not receive the clearance from the censor board as extremists had threatened against the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt. After the release date getting pushed initially, now it has been officially canceled and Maula Jatt will not release in India.
Raj Thackeray’s party had warned against the release and his media wing official celebrated the cancellation dubbing it as his party’s win:
Impact Of Raj Thackeray’s Warning! After the warning given by MNS, the screening of the Pakistani film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ has now been completely cancelled. Not only in the state but also anywhere in the country, this film will not be released anymore. Again, if anyone has feelings of love for Pakistani artists, then this one warning is enough for them. Heartfelt congratulations to all my colleagues for this victory of the MNS movement.

Summers are here and for the next six months or so all we will be wearing would be lawn…the fabric we all love, it is cool and comes in many styles and prints. For the past few years the lawn fever has completely gripped the female population and the competition between the different designers and even the wanna-be designer lawns is getting tougher by the day. Lawn is no longer just any fabric that you wear to feel cooler and more comfortable in the heat of summer but it is more of a fashion statement now. Printed lawn suits are just as expensive as silks and chiffons – the formal wear clothes which we once used to wear only for special occasions or on formal functions. The trend started with only a couple of designers stepping in to design prints for the brands that have existed for so many years now like Gul Ahmed and Alkaram. Gradually the designers figured out that this could prove to be a very lucrative business and now there are more than ten top designers who are taking a very active part in this competition.
Every year women wait impatiently for these designer lawns to surface in the outlets and when they are finally launched women run to the outlets as early as possible and even on the first day the suits sell like hot dogs. The passion with which the women go to shop for these fabrics is unmatched; you will never see such enthusiasm for winter clothes. One of the reasons also is that most women want to grab that very first prints and designs that come out because they are very often not repeated and that gives them the opportunity to flaunt for the rest of the season that they have the print that very few people have. There have even been incidents when women actually got into physical fights in order to get a certain print because there were only one or two suits left and there were too many women who wanted it! Talk about too many women chasing after too few lawn prints!
The competition does not end here, lately there is also the competition between the designers as to who manages to bag the best model and many of them had to “import” models from across the border in order to stand out. This time around some of the designers have also hired British models and the latest trend is that Indian designers have also designed some of the prints.
Are you one of those women who must be at the launch of every new designer Lawn? I know women whose main focus is attending all these launches all through the summer season- something interesting to keep them busy. Collecting the catalogues and of course the most rare prints is another very common “hobby” in summers. No wonder the prices are sky high, which is actually sad too because than most of the people cannot afford to buy the fabric that is worn the most in summers.
Asim Abbasi’s Churails has been standing out as truly newsworthy since the absolute first look of the show was revealed. Among the crowd some named it the best Pakistani show to have hit the screens while others named it as vulgar.
The series has breaken various stereotypes among our society.
Recently a tweet brought some attention to the opening sequence of the critically acclaimed show where an obvious similarity with another illustration by French illustrator, Malika Favre, was pointed out.
Churail’s opening sequence was designed by Rokhan Studio. Responding to the query, Glasshouse Production, the production house of the show, released a statement that this has been brought to our notice right now and we are looking into it immediately.
Jawad Sharif’s feature documentary “Indus Blues” has made an impact on audiences around the world with its originality and powerful message. The director is going one step further with the release of music videos from the film, which including Mai Dhai’s melodic Marwari folk song “Murli.” The video was appreciated for its stunning visuals capturing the culture of The Thar Desert.
Only days ago, he has launched the official music video for the Balochi folk string instrument “Suroz,” which takes us to a part of Pakistan most of the people in Pakistan are not familiar with:Baluchistan. The video starts with the stunning shot of the Makran Coastal Highway and moves to the masterful tune of the Suroz of the legendary maestro Ustad Sachu Khan. Even though Sachu Khan himself is based in Sui, Dera Bugti, in the Eastern Baluchistan, Suroz is found in both the Eastern Baluchistan and Makran coast musical traditions.
The music video starts with the iconic shots of the glamorous Makran coastal highway and Princess of Hope, but sooner moves to more salt-of-the-earth visuals of the tribal life. The video also briefly touches on the lives of the hardworking and selfless coal miners in the province. One of the most politically neglected parts of the country, the classical tune titled “Zinda Hein Kitne Log” offers a somber but soulful voice to the voiceless suffering in the province. The classical film song was originally sung by Madam Noor Jehan and composed by Master Inayat Hussain is beautifully interpreted in this rendition.
Director Jawad Sharif talked to us about the music video expressing his privilege to be able to collaborate with a maestro such as Sachu Khan on this project. “These music videos are only a continuation of the mission of Indus Blues, which is disseminating the art and the voice of the folk musicians and craftsmen all across Pakistan. These music videos will not only promote their music remind
He also reminded us of the serious assistance required by these artists. “The artist appearing in the Suroz music video is Ustad Sachu Khan who is currently suffering from heart disease. His condition has been critical for a long time. While we can offer our tribute as artists to his legendary body of work, the Government of Pakistan must take action to take care of artists such as Sachu Khan who are silently suffering. Indus Blues is all about reminding us of these national treasures.”
Indus Blues is produced by FACE in association with Bipolar Films. It is directed and produced by Jawad Sharif with cinematography by Asmat Bashir and screenwriting by Haroon Riaz. The team of Indus Blues plans to release further music videos in the days to come.

TThe trailer of Dobara Phir Se has been released. It’s a highly anticipated movie featuring some of our favourite actors.
Eyes are doors to your soul is a very famous saying and eyes do much of the work on screen as well. Any actor who can act with their eyes is a magician and they can make the audience fall in love with them. Eyes are also loved and appreciated by the people of the sub-continent as we have countless songs written just about the eyes of the beloved and we are not stopping anytime soon. There are actors internationally who are known for the expressions their eyes bring and the Pakistani entertainment industry is not short of them either. So, here is a list of The Kings of the Eyes- the ones who make you fall for their characters with just an eye movement:
1. Fawad Khan:
Fawad Khan is the biggest star in Pakistan. Many people attribute his breakout show Humsafar’s success to how handsome he looked and his romance with Mahira Khan in the show but it was actually Asher Hussain’s eyes which made people fall for Fawad because Asher Hussain was a toxic character and a border line villain to not stand with his wife when she needed him. He re-created the magic with Zaroon in Zindagi Gulzar Hai and the Indians also fell for the magical eyes of Khoobsurat’s prince.
2. Bilal Abbas Khan:
The expressions in those eyes made you all want Qasim to get Sassi in O Rangreza. He has also shown what shock he can create with his end scene in Bala and when he carries the professor’s janaza in Dunk. Quite recently in Kuch Ankahi, you saw Bilal’s eyes and you knew Salman fell for Aliya when there was no confession.
3. Nauman Ijaz:
He is the biggest contender for the title of The Ultimate King of Eyes. The man can create fear of God in anyone with a flick of an eye. The way he would look in Mere Saeein or Parizaad would actually make the audience feel the fear but he can look all innocent as he did as Maqsood Sahab in Raqeeb Se and fiercely in love as he did in Mrs and Mr Shamim.
4. Wahaj Ali:
You all just fell for Murtasim’s eyes. Evidence is the last episode of his drama Tere Bin still on the trending panel of YouTube. HE has done it before though as Basim in Ishq Jalebi. Wahaj can also look like the most miserable person on planet earth just with his eye expressions like he does in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha and Ehd e Wafa. He is making waves and Murtasim’s eyes are still the topic of many Tiktoks and posts being created on social media by millions of his fans.
5. Farhan Saeed:
Hamza took a look at Hala and the intensity was felt by the whole audience. Farhan Saeed is being dubbed as the modern king of romance for a reason. He knows he can talk with his eyes and people will listen. Just look at the real romance he brings with his picture with Urwa Hocane.
6. Babar Ali:
Babar Ali is a film star and people all over the country used to admire how handsome he was when he made his debut. But what he should be admired for is the way he can control his eyes. Yes, the man can be a hopeless romantic invoking couple goals in you with a character like Thanvi in Kuch Ankahi or a hard-headed giant who cannot be controlled in Landa Bazaar and you will be msemerized both times. He is an actor who should be used intelligently and so much more can be made out of his acting prowess.
Yes people, get ready for the finale and probably the inspiration for the article and it is none other than:
7. Mohammad Ehteshamuddin:
If his name is associated with a project, people will watch it. He is a great director and he has given us big projects like Sadqay Tumharay, Udaari and Yunhi. He is also an actor and like Pakistani actors are cursed to, he plays a father in every drama because he is not 20 years old. But man oh man, he just made people fall in love with the look he gave Barbeena in Kabli Pulao. In a world of dramas with Faysal Quraishi marrying teenagers left and right at the age of 60, we are rooting for Haji Sahab as he has brought the magic. The way he has portrayed guilt, compassion and affection with just his eyes is phenomenal. So, the latest king of the eyes on screen is Haji Sahab, all thanks to Murtasim to go off air and live a happy life with Meerab and Meesam otherwise he would have given a tough competition.
Which other actors do you think can fit the list? Tell us in comments and we will be coming out with a Queen of the Eyes edition as well!
One of the largest brands in Pakistan’s apparel industry, Khaadi is in hot waters. The Khaadi controversy emerged last month for allegedly firing employees apparently because they demanded a raise in their salaries.
The clothing brand was lampooned on social media for sacking the workers. However, the development in this whole episode is that Khaadi has agreed to the demands of the workers.
This is the agreement that was signed between Khaadi and the National Trade Union Federation.
According to this agreement, Khaadi has signed off on the following things with the National Trade Union Federation.
1) A minimum wage of PKR 15,000
2) Providing a safe and clean working environment for their workers
3) the provision of jobs for the 125 workers who were initially locked out of the factory
4) Providing Eid bonuses
5) Upholding the law with regards to overtime and working hours.
Recently, the renowned clothing line Khaadi refuted allegations of terminating its employees. However, this recent development surely proves that Khaadi was at fault at the first place.
One of the largest brands of Pakistan is in news these days for all the wrong reasons. The brand has been accused of mistreating their employees. Allegedly Khaadi has sacked scores of workers while they officially promised not to do so. A female workers has also been alleged to attempt suicide as she was penalised severely for taking a lunch break.
It has also been alleged that a skilled worker is paid just 13000 rupees while according to the standard set by government the minimum salary given to an unskilled worker should be 14000. Khaadi has just denied all these claims and labelled the allegations as a “conspiracy” against them. Khaadi issued the following statement on these claims:
Khaadi has viewed with concern the discussion on social media in recent days emanating from certain false news that have been spread and which seek to damage our reputation. Initially, our viewpoint was not to respond to what is nothing but malicious and libelous content, but we now feel we owe it to our patrons to clarify the matter. We therefore categorically confirm that Khaadi has NOT terminated 32 of its employees.
Another malicious story being spread and linked to the above is of the apparent attempted suicide of a young female worker. Why anyone should spread this outright lie is beyond understanding, but this just goes to show how some vested interests will stop at nothing to premeditatedly plan to try and cause reputational harm to Khaadi, and we intend to get to the bottom of this conspiracy.
Khaadi is a responsible corporate citizen. As a brand, we have endeavoured to maintain and adhere to the highest standards in all operations-which also includes following best practices with regard to our biggest assets, our employees. Our products are sourced through an array of third party suppliers. Khaadi has always endeavoured to promote our culture and heritage, and promote a positive image of Pakistan internationally, and will continue to do so.
Finally, we appeal to all to please do not share or spread news that is pure hearsay, or base your comments on speculative news, no matter shared by who, without fully knowing the facts yourself. We request this not only in the case of Khaadi, but as a general principle of social media engagement, as false rumours tend to escalate and can be quite damaging for others, whether it be brands or innocent people.
Whether Khaadi is speaking the truth or not the law will decide as workers have filed complaints against them!

This article is a brief summary of contributions by three generations of this family.
Shyam
Shyam was an artist of pre-partition sub-continent who remained in India after partition in 1947. Shyam’s full name was Sundar Shyam Chadha and he was born in Sialkot, Punjab in 1920. Shyam’s family was basically from Rawalpindi but his father was a serving army officer stationed in Sialkot at the time of his birth. After partition in 1947 the whole Chadha family migrated to India like the rest of Hindu/Sikh population of West Punjab due to severe riots. Shyam was a close friend of famous urdu writer Saadat Hassan Manto.
Tall and handsome Shyam started his career as film actor from films produced in Lahore before 1947. Then Lahore along with Kolkata(then Calcutta) and Mumbai (then Bombay) was a prominent film center of British India. One of his earlier film in Lahore is Gawandi (1942) produced in Lahore. Shyam later moved to Mumbai and became a prominent name of Indian cinema. Shyam passed away in a tragic incident in 1951 during the shooting of film Shabistan. He died after falling while riding a horse.
In Lahore Shyam had a serious love affair with a local artist named Mumtaz Qureshi who was famous as Taaji. Both got married after moving to Mumbai. The couple had two children a son named Shaakir and daughter named Sahira. Shyam’s name was widely discussed in press due to scandals with various female artists which also disturbed his marital life.
Shyam
Mumtaz Qureshi (aka Taaji)
Mumtaz Qureshi also known as Taaji belongs from Lahore, Punjab. Mumtaz along with her elder sister Zeb worked in few films in minor roles in British India. Both sisters started their career from Lahore and later migrated to Mumbai. Mumtaz married famous Indian artist Shyam in Mumbai and the couple had two children. The daughter Sahira was born in 1946 while the son Shaakir was born in 1951 few months after the death of his fatherShyam.
After tragic death of Shyam , Mumtaz with her two kids migrated back to her home town Lahore which was now part of newly created state of Pakistan. Few accounts say she already decided to move back to Pakistan due to scandals of Shyam. In Lahore, Pakistan the local film industry was still in infancy and Mumtaz had a chance to restart her career as an artist. However Mumtaz remarried a Pakistani entrepreneur with the surname Ansari and lead a low profile life away from media. The children of Mumtaz and Shyam means Sahira and Shaakir grew up in Pakistan and earned prominent positions in their respective fields as well. Both Shakir and Sahira ammended their surnames and became Shakir Shayam-Ansari and Sahira Ansari. Mumtaz Qureshi passed away in mid 2000’s in Karachi.
The story of Shyam and Taaji is also mentioned by Saadat Hassan Manto in his sketch of actor Shyam who was his close friend.

Parchhayian and Teesra Kinara are her famous dramas where she was paired with Rahat Kazmi who was a famous star by then. Sahira and Rahat married in late 1970’s as well thus Sahira Ansari became Sahira Kazmi.
Later Sahira joined Pakistan television Karachi centre as a permanent employee and worked as director/producer. She directed many notable dramas like Tappish, Dhoop Kinaray,Aahat, Hawwa Ki Beti, Nijaat and Zaibunnissa.Dhoop Kinaray is the most famous play of Sahira Kaazmi. Rahat Kazmi
The heartthrob of 1970’s, Rahat needs no introduction. Rahat has a passion for fine arts, and by profession he was a civil servant. Rahat joined civil service after passing the Civil Superior Service (CSS) in late 1960’s, he also pursued acting on television and theatre. Rahat has participated in stage dramas since college days at Government College Lahore and later at Punjab University. Being stationed in Islamabad, he started his television career in late 1960’s from PTV’s Rawalpindi centre as actor and host. Then all three centres of PTV i.e. Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad were not inter-connected and in 1973, all PTV centres were connected via a nation wide network through a series of boosters. To overcome this every PTV centre runs local programs, while few programs were recorded on tape and ported to other centres via Pakistan International Airlines. Even speeches of then rulers and current affair programs were recorded during day time in Islamabad and then sent to Lahore and Karachi to be aired in evening transmission.
Rahat Kazmi
In early days of PTV Rawalpindi center Rahat worked in many dramas like ‘Goongay‘ in 1967. In ‘Koltaar’ in 1968 he acted opposite Nayyar Kamal who was a popular television artist of that era. ‘Koltaar’ was followed by another successful drama named ‘Anarkali‘ and later ‘Auraaq‘ written by Fatima Surrayia Bajiya sealed Rahat’s name as a leading performer. In the meantime Rahat also hosted a television show named Rahat Kazmi show. In 1973 all centres of Pakistan television were connected on a nation wide network. So now audience in Lahore can see a program telecasted from Karachi or any other centre. This nation wide network started a new era of popularity of television. Television stars became household names like film stars. Rahat Kazmi is indeed a leading contributor for the success of television in that era.
Despite working in few successful serials Rahat earned nationwide recognition with a superhit drama serial named Qurbatain Aur Faaslay. Qurbatain aur Faaslay in 1974 was widely successful in which Rahat was paired with Sahira Ansari. Qurbatain aur Faaslay was based on a russian novel ‘Father and Sons’ by Ivan Turgenev. Rahat and Sahira married in 1974 the same year Qurbatain aur Faaslay was aired. Regardless of the on screen tragic end, the off screen end of this drama resulted in Qurbatain of main pair.
Sahira Kazmi, Nida Kazmi, Rahat Kazmi
Qurbatain aur Faaslay, followed by another hit named Perchaiyan written by Haseena Moeen. Parchaiyan was also based on a English novel ‘Portrait of a Lady’ by Henry James. Rahat and Sahira were in lead roles along with Javed Sheikh, Talat Hussain, Shakeel. Teesra Kinara in late 1970’s is another such drama where Sahira and Rahat again worked together. Teesra Kinara was also written by Rahat Kazmi, it was directed by Rahat’s close friend Shahzad Khalil.
Meanwhile in mid 1976’s Rahat had resigned from civil service to pursue the acting as full time career. The same year Rahat also started his film career. He worked in about fifteen films most of which were successful, but surprisingly he opted out of films despite having success. Mehmaan (opposite Babra Sharif), Khandaan (opposite Najma) are his famous and success films.

Ehsaas was successful but further success for both Marina and Rahat was yet to come. In late 1980’s, Rahat and Marina starred in an all time classic named Dhoop Kinaray, directed by Sahira Kazmi. The play instantly achieved the status of classic and was the height of popularity of PTV drama. Marina never achieved that much success afterwards, however Rahat appeared in another powerful role in drama Nangay Paon in 1993. In Nangay Paon, Rahat brilliantly performed in the role of Azeem an egoistic and influential businessman opposite Saba Hameed.
Nangay Paon was last major drama of Rahat Kazmi. Afterwards he appeared in few tele films like Zikr Hai Kayee Saal Kaa opposite Attiqa Odho, written by Anwar Sajjad, directed by Sahira Kazmi. Rahat Kazmi now works at National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) as a teacher.

Her only notable appearance is in drama Zaibunnisa in 1999, opposite Adnan Siddiqi. Zaibunnisa was also the last major play directed by Sahira Kazmi. Ab Tum Ja Saktay Ho was based on a short story of Khadija Mastoor. Her other famous tele films are Farar, Abba, Amman Aur Ali, Chalo Phir Se Muskarayen and Putli Ghar.
Mehreen’s direction style is totally different from routine direction style of PTV dramas. Her dramas have much shorter scenes when compared with contemporary drama of 1990’s. In Dastak, Shazia appeared opposite another young actor Ayyaz Nayek. It was also first major appearance of Ayyaz Nayek in a television drama. Despite success of Dastak, acting has never been a first choice profession for Shazia. Its the modelling where she worked consistently. Then in late 1990’s ramp modelling opportunities were scarce. However they both parted their ways within few years of marriage. Both Shazia and Ayyaz have been silent about their breakup. Both have not remarried after the breakup.

This fact can’t be denied that years have gone when Pakistani females can be seen in some particular areas (dramas, serials etc) on television. Today, women are stronger than before. They know they can prove themselves in a variety of genres, one of the most popular being “anchoring”. I can recall old days when there were a handful of television channels broadcasting current affairs talk-shows. Most of them being dominated by male anchors but then a new era emerged, when women also started to pursue the field of anchoring. Being the anchor of talk-show which is based on the current affairs of the state is a big deal because it involves not only great efforts to compile the research matter but also it is one of the most time-consuming jobs. Nevertheless, our females have nailed it and Pakistan has produced a good number of these females which are successfully delivering their best in this area of Pakistan Media Industry. Some of the most popular anchors are:
1. Jasmine Manzoor:
Who doesn’t know Jasmine Manzoor. It won’t be wrong to put here that she is the most aggressive female anchor in Pakistan. She is not only an anchor and a journalist but also a blogger.
Jasmine did her Masters in International Relations. She has been working as an anchor since 1999. Her famous show “Tonight with Jasmine” on SAMAA T.V started in March 2010. These days she is doing a talk show called “Faisla Awam ka” on DAWN News.
4. Sidra Iqbal:
Sidra Iqbal is also my personal favorite anchor. She is not just a journalist and an anchor but also one of the celebrated youth icon. Sidra is a prominent television broadcaster in Pakistan since 2006 and has a number of signature shows, productions and momentous coverages to her credit. Her shows have featured a number of VIP guests from Heads of States, Policy makers, corporate heads and celebrated popular icons. Sidra especially enjoys a country-wide strong youth fanbase, who keenly follow her comment and advice on youth issues and self empowerment.
In July 2012, Sidra became the first Pakistani anchorperson to host the official digital platforms of the International Indian Film Awards 2012 (IIFA), the mega Bollywood extravaganza of immense global popularity in Singapore, a project that expanded Sidra’s fans base across borders.

There was a time when people used to question technological advancements and were not willing to accept them wholeheartedly but now technology is not just widely accepted but very warmly welcomed too. Whenever there is a new innovation, people ask what is next, even before they have fully exploited the technological devices already available. I remember when I was a kid I used to find it almost unbelievable that there will be a day when we will have phones which will enable us to see the person we were having a conversation with. At that time it seemed far fetched but the rapid pace with which technology is advancing in the given age nothing surprises me and everything is believable. ( I am not sure what to write after this sentence *sigh* or *cheers*?)
When I was growing up there used to be one or not more than two landlines in one household. There was absolutely no concept of cell phones and when the cordless phone was introduced many families did not prefer it because they wanted to keep a check on their teenage kids especially. With the phone set in one specific place, it was easy for the parents to monitor who their kids were interacting with and how long the conversations lasted. The kids in those days had very little privacy and the grown ups had a lot of control. If a parent did not want his child to associate with someone they would just tell that person that the child was busy or not home until they stopped calling. The parents picked up from the children’s conversation what was going on in their lives and very often they ended up talking to their children about it. Now in the past 15 years or so things have changed drastically, everyone has a mobile phone, even school going children can’t do without them. What effect does it have? Parents feel more secure because if their child gets into trouble or if there is an emergency they can instantly reach them but look at the cons, many of the parents nowadays have absolutely no control over their children’s lives in terms of who they are talking to and what is going on their life, unless the child decides to talk to the parents about it. And how often does that happen? Not very often, because as a result of all the technological advancements children do not have time or patience for their parents. There is so much to occupy them from play stations, computers to iphones and ipads and need I mention facebook? Which is anything but a book but a whole new world of it’s own to which old and young alike are addicted. Children nowadays can have a day without saying hello to their parents but a day without facebook is unimaginable.
All the latest games whether they are on play station, Xbox or idevices are very engaging indeed and some of them are highly educational too but In my opinion they are nothing compared to the good old game of tag we used to play with out siblings and neighbors. When you sit and play a game on your device or Xbox, who are you connecting with? Virtual characters in a virtual world? A game of ball, tag or hide and seek used to connect the kids with their friends and siblings and gave them some unforgettable memories. And not to mention there were many lessons learned along the way. I am not saying that children do not play with their friends anymore but I know from personal experience and observation that the kids nowadays interact with their devices much more than they do with real people. Why is that? I think it is because it is human nature to stick to relations that are easy to maintain, while a human will not do exactly what you want them to do and may argue with you too but a device will follow your lead. If you are losing in a game, all one has to do is to restart it and there is no looking back. But if you are playing with a friend and you lose, then you lose and you learn lessons about life…you learn how to deal with things when they don’t go your way. I really believe that these devices have managed to attain what they aimed to achieve, which is, making life easier for those who use them. But my question is that if we keep on making our lives so easy than how will we deal with it when it gets difficult? Life is no game that can be restarted, our children need to learn to resolve their problems and to deal with difficult situations and this is only going to happen if they go out in the world and interact with real people. Yes, all kids go to school and they interact with real people there but I have seen many kids who are introverts in school, they keep to themselves until it is time to come home.
Enough about kids, technology seems to have engulfed grown ups just as much too and while it is great that people make so many new friends online through many social networking sites but have you ever felt that you maybe giving your online friends more time than the people living in the same house with you? Nowadays in many affluent households every member of the family has a laptop or any other device to keep them connected to the outside world but we seem to be using the devices given to us by nature less and less to interact with those around us. A chat with a sibling, your spouse or even your own child may seem cumbersome because you have to reply to all the facebook messages and check out the latest updates on all the sites you have registered too…there just aren’t enough hours in a day! So what exactly are the grown ups investing in too? Imagine a day without any of these gadgets in the house and not even the television, what would be the outcome? I am certain that the people living in the house will interact with each other more. When your little sister does not have Google or youtube to tell her what she needs to know about her history lesson she is bound to come to you for assistance and this is how relationships grow.
I must sound like I am anti technology, well honestly speaking no I am not, we have all the possible gadgets in the house that one can think of but it really makes me wonder sometimes that where are we headed? And where does it stop? The internet and the other devices help us in countless ways. I won’t be here talking to you in the first place if it wasn’t for the internet but there was once a time when these things did not exist and people still got by with life just fine. Everything has it’s pros and cons, we all know very well what the positives of technology are and I will not deny them but how many of us stop to reflect how technology has changed human interactions (in good and bad ways). Yes I emphasized on the negative impact of technology in this article because sometimes I do feel like I was just as happy with life before all these technological developments. Life was simple back when friends and siblings had to sit and think hard about how to keep ourselves occupied. When one could not understand history or science your father never turned on you tube for you but he sat down to explain things. I do miss those days and I wonder how life would have been if things were still the same!
