The Obsession With Fair Skin And Pakistani Media

We see advertisements of innumerable fairness products on television every day which are highly regressive and belittling. The newspapers are filled with ads in which creams, soaps, face washes and doctors promise a fairer skin. The advertising companies do not put in a lot of thought into making their ads because the formula is simple; if you have fair and flawless skin anyone will fall in love with you immediately. Not only this but girls who do not have a fair skin have no reason to be confident. Being fair means you are beautiful and if you are beautiful the world is yours!!

Untitled

I have seen many ruthless advertisements in which girls go unnoticed and are rejected when they are dark but the second their skin color changes, they find their prince charming falling in love with them at first sight. I find it mortifying the way in which we have readily accepted something which is wrong on so many levels. These advertisements clearly show that there is nothing wrong with segregating individuals on the basis of color and that the worth of a person is determined by his or her skin color.

Untitled

How many of you remember Vital Signs’ song ” Goray Rung Ka Zamana”? I remember there was an outrage when this song came out because it had lyrics that clearly said that girls with a fair skin were always in fashion and they had more of a right to be bold and confident. Vital Signs had to “compensate” by singing the song “Sanwali Saloni Si Mehbooba”. My point is that there was a time when we used to question these things but now when we see our media ridiculing people who are not fair, we do not even raise our voice.

Untitled

No doubt, most Pakistanis are obsessed with fair complexion but is it something so acceptable that we feel no need to question it? On the other hand, our media makes the most of it by reinforcing the thinking that fair alone is beautiful and being dark is unacceptable. The fairness creams are making hay while the sun shines; too many people benefiting from the mindset of the majority so why try to change it, seems to be the thinking behind all these ads.

Untitled

Most of these advertisements are usually shot in India, while Indians have started to realize that there is a very dark side to this obsession with fairness and they have started campaigns like “Dark Is Beautiful”, we are not even talking about the problem. There are so many girls/women and of course men in our country who are not fair but calling them ugly and unacceptable openly is somehow not wrong at all because apparently people with fair skin alone must have feelings! What are the content creators thinking when they come up with tag lines like “dark out, white in”? Do they know that they are talking about the color of people’s skin?

Untitled

The trend is lately shifting to men as well because it is just as important for men to be fair! Where, when and how does this obsession with fair skin end? Or does it just get worse? Do you find the fairness creams’ advertisements derogatory? Do you think it is time that we at least talked about the issue? Do you think that our fair skinned celebrities should refuse to be a part of  advertisements that are derogatory? Do you feel that our advertising agencies should stop making and importing commercials that are belittling? Is a person’s worth really determined by the color of their skin? If not so then why this obsession with fair skin?

Do share your thoughts please.

The number ONE entertainment channel in Prime Time in March

As per private company Medialogic, which runs the current television rating points (TRP) system in Pakistan the highest ranked channel in the prime time in the few days of March i.e. from 16th – 19th March is Geo Kahani.

The statistics are shared by Geo Kahani, the GRP wise standing of various channels in the said duration is listed below (GRP is in the brackets)
1- Geo Kahani (127)
2- ARY Digital (107)
3- Urdu 1 (100)
4- Hum TV (74)
5- APlus (57)

Surprisingly the main entertainment channel of Geo media house i.e. Geo Entertainment is not even in the top five. Means Geo Kahani has outnumbered its own parent channel. Another interesting aspect is the entertainment content aired on Geo Kahani. Geo Kahani seldom airs any Pakistani program and depends on foreign programs among which Indian programs tops the list followed by Turkish plays. The prime time is allocated to Indian soaps like Kum Kum Baghiya, Dusri Shaadi, Jodha Akbar, CID and others. The main turkish play is Shaharzaad which has replaced Mera Sultaan. Apart from Indian and Turkish soaps, the channel also airs Animated English films dubbed in Hindi.

Further surprising is the fact that two other channels in this list i.e. Urdu 1 and Aplus at number three and five respectively also depend heavily on foreign content.More than 95% programs of Urdu 1 are foreign while more than 50% programs of APlus are foreign. Both Urdu1 and Aplus air Indian soaps in prime time on week days.

Urdu 1 only airs Pakistani dramas on Friday and Saturday at 9:00 pm while few Pakistani sitcoms also constitute the minor portion of Pakistani content on Urdu1. The famous Indian soaps of Urdu 1 are Veera, Nisha aur uskay Cousin. Turkish dramas aired on Urdu 1 are also very popular, like currently aired Ashiyana Meri Mohabbat Kaa.

Aplus the channel ranked at number five airs Indian soaps on three weekd ays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) in Prime Time. Apart from Indian soaps, Indian horror shows and variety shows (dance and singing contests).

ARY Digital ranked at second and Hum Tv ranked at fourth are almost totally airing Pakistani content. Currently no foreign program is aired on ARY Digital, while an Indian variety show (singing competition) is being aired on Hum Tv on weekends (Satruday,Sunday).

It is said the statistics never lie, though our current TRP system is debatable and is not considered a true reflection of viewer choice still these numbers prove that a sizable number of television viewers opt to go for foreign content  (Indian followed by Turkish) instead of Pakistani content.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

0

After the Oh so often, there has to be a NOT SO OFTEN! And here it is. From character shamming the leading lady to zaalim susrals, we get these sequences like in every second drama we watch. But here are some sequences which made our days in one way or the other. Some points we would like to see getting along more often. Let’s start with some not so oftens of Pakistani dramas:

No Muafi:

Forgiveness is a part of our faith. It is indeed a very important thing and is taught to us from the very beginning of our lives. Be it parents, teachers, entertainment or general curriculum, we are always taught to forgive the ones who have wronged us. This concept is used again and again in our dramas too. There is always a heroine who is crushed and humiliated by 5000 people and what does she do? She FORGIVES! I know this sounds poetic and is a good thing to preach but it is not very relatable all the time. There are times when forgiveness by our heroine ruins the whole drama. Dil e Muzter is an example where Sila forgiving Adil literally ruined the whole ending. People who do wrong should be punished a little. All the time muafi is not something viewers look forward to. Maat is a drama where no muafi at the end made my year, yes not day, the whole year. Amina Sheikh’s Sheh Maat showed how the real world works. A human cannot be a fairy godmother who keeps forgiving for no reason at all. Maat’s ending was a strong not so often of Pakistani dramas and the scene is something that can be watched thousands of times.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

A Jerk Is A Jerk Even If Handsome:

Another concept of Pakistani dramas is that you can get away with literally anything if you are a gora chitta malai boti jaisa boy. And the girl will keep following you like a pet because your beauty has hindered her common sense and self-respect. In every second drama, we see a handsome actor is cast and the whole drama his character wander around misbehaving with every human being and every piece of furniture for no reason at all. But we saw a scene which does not happen often in our dramas and this was when an average looking Kashaf showed a handsome Zaroon his real face. Zindagi Gulzar Hai talked about women empowerment and the power of education but one sequence which will always be remembered is that girls have other things to do in life than keep swooning after a boy with zero manners. It showed that people are actually judged on their deeds and not on their looks even if they think of themselves as some kind of Greek gods.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

Abuse Is Not Acceptable:

We have a hero who will slap the heroine, emotionally abuse her and things will still become normal in the last episode. Unfortunately, in many dramas, this is shown as a very normal practice and is not even mentioned to be a crime. Kankar, however, came out as a drama with many sequences redeeming the practice totally unacceptable. Sanam Baloch portrayed the girl who fights against domestic abuse to perfection and from standing up against an abusive husband to fighting for herself with her parents, the drama had countless sequences which are not shown often in our dramas and should be portrayed more. Its high time we stop showing masculinity in the power of a slap.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

Imtiaz Is In Our Own Homes:

Countless dramas are coming out about the topic of abuse but what started this all and is still the best in all regards is Udaari. Udaari is a drama which talked about the untalked. It started the debate and is the pioneer in every sense in bringing society’s attention to this topic and making them talk about it openly. The other thing which was openly shown was that Imtiaz is always someone near you. He is the one you trust the most. Hats off to Ahsan Khan for taking up this role and showing people that wolves reside behind innocent faces. After Udaari we saw many more dramas which showed that how people near to you can rip your life apart in the most heinous way.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

Maulvis Are Not Always Extremist:

Maulvis are shown as some hell-bent creatures in our dramas. They make their women wear abayas forcefully and try to force Islam on people. But then Pyaare Afzal came out with Maulvi SubhanAllah and he indeed made me say SubhanAllah. He was a man of religion, an imam masjid who adored his wife, loved his daughter and cared deeply for his son. He was soft natured and brought coconut wale biscuits for a girl whom his son “LOVED”, yes loved, and he was not against his son loving a girl. A character we never see on our screens. Hopefully, the dramas will come out with more characters like that who represent the true essence of Islam and show how beautiful and peaceful Islam really is.

The Not So Often Of Pakistani Dramas!

These are some sequences we do not often see in our dramas. Any more which come to your mind? Share in the comments!

The Newcomers in Pakistani Drama Industry (2014)

0

We have had some talented and some not so talented actors making their debut this year. A few of them grabbed the spotlight immediately. while others have a long way to go. Let’s have a look at the newcomers of our drama industry in the year 2014. Adnan Malik: Being a producer and director already, Adnan made his debut with Sadqay Tumharay on Hum TV. The phrase “aate hi chha gaye” would be suitable for him, since Khalil (his character in the play) became a household name and Adnan was praised not only for his chocolaty hero looks but for his acting skills too. We are expecting some quality projects from him in the future. adnan Malik Gohar Rasheed: Gohar had  bagged a few nominations for his work in the feature film Lamha (Seedlings), when he stepped into the drama industry with Shikwa. He is a part of recent dramas, namely Digest WriterKhuda Na Karay and Goya. Gohar has nailed all the roles and hopefully, will do the same in future. gohar He knows how to give the right expressions and make the audience praise him and he has selected different roles to do that.

gohar-001
The different characters peformed by him

Maryam Ansari: Maryam hails from Karachi. She worked as RJ and a model. She was part of Chaadar on Urdu-1 (2013), but her role in Shanakht on Hum TV, was more recognizable as the start of her career in the drama industry. After Shanakht, two more of her dramas,  Susral Mera and Agar Tum Na Hotay aired on Hum TV. As an actress, Maryam has yet to impress. She needs to work on her dialogue delivery. ef7ea034ca95a35137235fcd68fe6901 Aleezay Tahir: Aleezay Tahir is another Karachiite who made her debut with Shikwa. She has a cute and pretty face but she really needs to work on her dialogue delivery and expressions. 10650020_594098354034957_389306557035173885_n Aleezay Rasool: Aleezay Rasool worked as a model and in a few commercials before the start of her career as an actor in Bikhra Mera Naseeb on Geo TV. Presently, both BMN and her second drama Sultanat-e-Dil are being telecast on Geo Entertainment. Aleezay Rasool gives the right expressions but needs to work on the dialogues. aleezay-rasul-latest-photo-shoot-01-8   Some of her clicks as Ujala in BMN: 10174815_595504767212725_1832586714_n Zarnish Khan: Zarnish started her career with Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi on Hum TV. Her second drama, Susral Mera, aired on the same channel while her third drama, Khuda Na Karay, is airing on ARY Digital. Zarnish has a cute face but needs to improve her dialogue delivery to suit different situations. bdje Zahid Ahmed: Making his debut with Mehram on Hum TV, the good looking Zahid Ahmed has not impressed much with his acting. While he speaks confidently and knows what expressions to give, he needs to choose better roles which give him an opportunity to show his talent. zahid ahmed Janita Zafar: She has performed side roles in the past, but her recognizable debut would be Ishq Mein  on Express Entertainment. Janita is a pretty face but a good actress as well. She gives suitable expressions and speaks confidently. Janita Zafar   Some of her clicks as Samra in Ishq Mein: v Iqra Aziz: You must have seen her in the really long Hilal Kake ad, alongside Na Maloom Afraad famed Mohsin Abbas Haider. Iqra is a talented young actress who also made her debut with Kisay Apna Kahein and then starred in Ishq Mein on Express Entertainment. She could improve her way of speaking a bit, since she gets a bit loud at times, but other than that, her acting is good. iqra Sundas Khan: Sundas started her career with Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi. She did not make much of an impression with her acting skills and needs to work on them. sundas Khan Hina Altaf: Hina is a VJ, and a good one at that, but not a good actor, for her work in ARY Digital’s Maryam Kese Jiye was nothing out of the ordinary. She needs to improve her acting skills for her next project. 250358_359203137584499_5677445212415704652_n Feroze Khan: Feroze Khan stepped into the showbiz industry with Bikhra Mera Naseeb. His second drama is Chup Raho on ARY Digital. Feroze Khan is a good actor and his strength lies in intense scenes. 10257997_655679304485164_1231165785945192520_n So which one of these actors impressed you? Whom do you want to see again? The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Pakistani dramas are loved by millions all over the world. Our dramas have a huge market in all the countries where the populace can understand Urdu and this high consumption is evident by the number of views we have on these dramas. But like all the departments in Pakistan, entertainment is also highly censored, restricted, and practiced by a few people who have a monopoly over content.

Pakistan has three big channels and their content departments generally decide what stories will run on television. Combined with the system of rating and YouTube views, the evolution of content has been stagnant and unfortunately, we have a repetition of concepts over and over again. If one formula becomes a hit, all other drama makers jump on the bandwagon and start making similar dramas. We all have seen how the last decade was all about women getting slapped left, right, and center. These women would forgive the men in the end “due to the goodness of their hearts”.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

After a lot of uproar and criticism from the public, the drama makers have evolved and instead of showing a strong and independent heroine like Kashaf Murtaza from Zindagi Gulzar Hai or Aliya from Kuch Ankahi, they have decided to make women rude and badly-behaved while heroes have turned into mushy-messed becharas who lack a genuine spine.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Here is how the new trend of rude and misbehaving heroines is getting strong:

Meerab From Tere Bin

Meerab from Tere Bin is a mega-hit character and it pushed Yumna Zaidi’s career to an unprecedented peak. Yumna is one of the finest in Pakistan and she has shown how she gets under the skin of characters in dramas like Dar Si Jati Hai Sila, Dil Na Umeed To Nahin, and Pyar Ke Sadqay. She gave her 100% in Tere Bin too and Meerab was the talk of the town. Meerab was shown to be a strong-headed and confident girl but in many instances, she was just plain rude. Yes, Murtasim ended up being a rapist and he should never have been white-washed but before that mind-boggling episode, Meerab kept being rude to every other character including Murtasim who was a loving husband before things went into a ditch.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Mubashira Jaffar From Mein

Mubashira Jaffar is another favourite character of many due to her opposition in the drama being too boring and draggy. Ayeza Khan played Mubashira Jaffar in Mein and her principles traits were her rudeness and scheming. She made it all look stylish and many loved her for what she was. She is another example of showing empowerment by making the character super rude.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Ayra From Mein

Ayra was another woman from Mein who was a parallel lead and she was as evil as Mubashira was but in a slightly different manner. She looked stupid at times by the stunts she used to pull and she was rude to everybody including her lovng husband Zaid when she had knowingly married him that his father was the reason for her only brother’s death.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Zarnab From Gentleman

Zarnab is a strong-willed and independent woman played by Yumna Zaidi. She is a journalist who is not scared of anyone but we saw her slapping Munna Iqbal in one scene and he obviously takes it easily. Why can a strong heroine not be strong without slapping around people? But yes, Gentleman has just started and things can get better from here on. Also, the person getting slapped here is a gangster so maybe we can tolerate Zarnab’s behaviour for now.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Eman From Radd

Eman is another character with some serious behavioural problems. She was rude to her own family, then went on and caused Zain’s nervous breakdown as she did not provide him a chance to explain. She then married without her father’s presence which was straight absurd and now she is being rude to her husband’s uncle who is not really a villain. She never really takes feelings of those around her into consideration and does things on a whim.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Minna And Husn Ara From Jaan Se Pyara Juni

These two are actually competing on who will come out on top of the rude scale. Both the actresses have performed the characters very well but they were once again written to be this way. Minna is very direct and very rude to everyone and never shows any grace. This is also true for Husn Ara who is very beautiful but lacks the grace that every decent person should have.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Now, let’s move on to the second part of this new trend. As opposed to our heroines who are extremely rude, our heroes are extreme becharas and everyone is walking over them all the time. These are our recent becharas who were borderline annoying for viewers:

Munna Iqbal From Gentleman

So, Munna is supposed to be a “gangster”. Gangsters kill and abduct people, they are known for extortion and violence but not our Munna. He will be a bechara and will get slapped by a woman in front of everyone and will not retaliate.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Zaid From Mein

Oh brother! This guy was marketed as the cool, suave and stylish person with power. What he actually turned out was a bechara pro max who had zero spine and everyone from his dad to both his wives and even his sister would drag him around by the collar.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Saad From Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha

Wahaj Ali once again played a spineless character and he was the ultimate bechara. The love of his life made sure to make his life hell and he let that happen. She kept meeting her old lover and he never could object. They did not show a violent person which is good but the man could have stood up for himself once or twice.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Salaar From Radd

Another bechara we are witnessing is played by Sheheryar Munawar in Radd. At least in his case, there are circumstances that made him into a bechara but he is another on-screen bechara we have and he needs to be rescued. Once again as it is currently on-air so things may change in future.

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

Shehram From Jaan e Jahan

The makers wanted to show Shehram as a super positive character which was nice but he was too good at times. The guy was being pushed around by his brother, poisoned by his step-mother and could not claim the love of his life. So, a Bechara e Azam for sure!

The New Trend Of Rude Heroines And Bechara Heroes In Pakistani Dramas

So, what do you think about this new trend of bechara heroes and vampy heroines? Share your thoughts!

The New Queen Of Twitter, Meera Ji Calls PM Nawaz Sharif A ‘Butcher’

The whole of Pakistan is rattled with power cuts. Seems, like the only celebrity concerned about the power outage is Meera Jee. She is continuously tweeting about load shedding and seeking an answer from the government.

So much so, that the star not only dared to complain to Maryam Nawaz about there being no access to electric power in Lahore but also trolled her. The veteran actress has raised her voice against the power outage.

She then referred to Maryam Nawaz as “Baji” and called PM Nawaz Shareef a “Butcher” and the public is applauding her for speaking out.

Kudos to Meera for speaking on all of our behalfs.

The New Attractions of this Season – A New List!

0

Every season there comes a time when a lot of new fresh shows start on our favorite channels. This time too there are a lot of showing worth looking forward to. So here is the list:

photo 2(4)

Muhabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai:

This is one of the most awaited shows of the season for me. Frankly, I was not expecting much from this drama as there were barely any updates on the social media about this show during its production stage. But after watching its promos and teasers on Hum TV, I must admit, I am really looking forward to the drama. One of the main attractions of this show is the cast which comprises of Sanam Jung, Mikaal Zulfiqar and Adeel Hussain as the main leads. Another reason why this drama is a must watch is because of Mikaal and Sanam’s superb chemistry which is pretty evident even from the promos. The cast also includes Mira Sethi, Ali Tahir, Hina Tareen, Mansha Pasha, Farah Shah, and Rashid Farooqui. It is directed by Sakina Sammo and it is adapted from Umera Ahmed’s novel ‘Yeh Jo Subha Ka Sitara Hai’. It might be replacing Kankar on Fridays’.

Mere Humdum Mere Dost:

The airing date of this show has finally been confirmed. It will go on air on Hum TV in January 2014. I am sure most of you must have heard about this show by now as it was pretty hyped on the social media. It is adapted from Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel of the same name, and the cast includes Adnan Siddiqui, Sanam Jung, Shakeel Saheb, Junaid Khan, Hareem Farooq, Farhan Ali Agha, and Zainab Qayyum. This is another show worth looking forward to because of its excellent cast and its brilliant writer who gave us the biggest blockbuster drama of Pakistan, ‘Humsafar’. The show is directed by Shehzaad Kashmiri of Dil-e-Muzter fame.

photo 3(1)

Ishq Mein Teray:

This first episode of this show has already gone on air on Hum TV and looks like a promising one. It stars Mewish Hayat, Azfar Rehman, Mediha Imam, and Shahzad Nawaz. Shehzad Nawaz is the producer and actor of the movie Chambaili and would be coming on a Television show for the first time after his movie released. It is directed by Fahim Burney and written by Sadia Akhter. It replaced Kadurat on Hum TV on Wednesdays at 8:00 pm.

photo 4(1)

Pachtawa:

Pachtawa is another show which grabbed the attention of many from its promos. It stars Faysal Qureshi, Mahnoor Baloch, Aijaz Aslam and Anum Fayyaz as the leads. It is the debut show of Aijaz Aslam’s production house, ‘AA Entertainment Presentation’. After watching the first episode, the story ahead is very predictable. Even though the story is not new, the main attraction of this show is the cast. It is the first show of Mahnoor Baloch after the release of her movie, ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’. The show is directed by Shaqielle Khan and airs on Friday on ARY Digital.

photo 4

Pyaray Afzal:

There was something mysterious about its promos and I was definitely intrigued by them. It stars Hamza Ali Abbasi (last seen in Waar), Ayeza Khan, Sana Javed as the leads. The rest of the cast includes Saba Hameed, Shehryar Zaidi, and Firdous Jamal. The story looks quite different; exchange of love letters seems like an interesting concept. Unfortunately, the first episode failed to impress me. It is too early to judge this show though; we need to watch a few more episodes to give a final verdict. It is produced by Six Sigma Plus, directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. One of the main attractions of this show for me is Hamza Ali Abbasi. I had become a huge fan after watching him in Waar, and I was looking forward to his performance in this show. It comes on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm on ARY Digital.

Do Qadam Dhoor Thay

The teaser of this show has gone on air on GEO TV, but I am unable to judge much about the show from its teaser. It stars Ayeza Khan, Sami Khan, Sana Khan and Ally Khan as the main leads. Sami Khan’s role in this show seems pretty similar to his previous ones. We need to wait for the full-fledged promos to find more about the show’s story. It is produced by Ironline Productions, written by Kifayat Rodaini And directed by Mohsin Mirza (director of Aasmanon Pay Likha).

photo 1(5)

Ruksaar:

This is also an upcoming show on Geo TV. The show seems good from the looks of the promos. It stars Sumbul Iqbal, Agha Ali, Imran Aslam, Ushna Shah, Sana Khan, Babar Khan, Moomal Khalid and Sarah Razi. The play is directed by Asim Ali and produced by 7th Sky Entertainment. The show will start from Monday, 9th December. It will replace Mere Khuwabon Ka Diya.

photo 1(6)

Tootey Huway Taray:

This show is going to air on ARY Digital, and it is the third show from Fahad Mustafa’s production house, Big Bang Productions. The promo has gone on air and the story seems similar to Khusbhoo Ka Ghar and Mann Ke Moti. So far, Big Bang Productions have offered no new story to the viewers. I hope they come up with fresh concepts soon! The show stars Nouman Ijaz, Naheed Shabbir and others. It is directed by Zahid Mehmood and written by Dilawar.

photo 3(2)Kalmoohi:

This show is currently airing on GEO TV. From the two episodes that have gone on air it is evident that the story has nothing new to offer. It’s the same old story of a step mother treating her step daughter like a servant. It stars Badar Khalil, Maria Wasti, Qavi Khan, Moammar Rana, Faizan Rashid Khawaja, Maheen Rizvi, Hannan Sameed, Sadia Ghaffar, Saleem Mairaj, Afshah, and Shahid Naqvi. It is directed by Syed Atif Hussain and written by Aamir Qureshi. It comes every Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 pm.

photo 2(6)

Billo, Bablu and Bhaiya:

Every season it is a must to have at least one sitcom, and this season Billo Bablu and Bhaiya is a lighthearted sitcom worth watching. It stars Mawra Hussain, Shehroze Sabzwari, Moammar Rana, Javed Sheikh, Arjumand Rahim, Seemi Pasha and others. It is directed by Sohail Javed and written by Seema Ghazal. It airs every Saturday, 9:00 pm on ARY Digital.

 photo

Bhanwar:

It is another upcoming show from Big Bang Productions. It stars Nadeem Baig, Bushra Ansari, Hassan Ahmed and Mansha Pasha. It is written by Seema Ghazal and directed by Badar Mehmood. The teasers and promos will be on air very soon on ARY Digital.

photo 1(4)Mera Raqeeb:

It is another upcoming show which stars Sajjal Ali, Affan Waheed, Juggan Kazim, and Faisal Rehman. From its teasers aired on Aplus, it seems like a promising show, but since most of us are biased towards channels, we would be less likely to watch this show. Since the cast is good, this show is definitely worth a try!

photo 4(2)

Bunty I Love You!:

This is another upcoming Rom-com on Hum TV starring Saba Qamar and Nouman Habib. Frankly, this show does not look appealing since HUM TV has never been good at producing comedy shows.
I seriously do not know what is wrong with Saba Qamar all of a sudden. Choosing shows like Miss Fire and Bunty I Love You will make her career graph go down. I really hope this does not happen!

photo 5(1)

Majazi Khuda:

Majazi Khuda is another upcoming show on GEO TV produced by A & B Productions. It stars Saba Hameed, Atiqa Odho, Ainie Jafferi, Farah Shah, Usman Peerzada, Faizan Khwaja and others. It is directed by Wajahat Hussain. The teasers look interesting, but the story seems repetitive. Now let’s see how the show turns out to be!
Note: For all those wondering why I did not add Bin Roye Aansu, it is because it is not going to air this season. It will come around June/July next year.

Share your views about these shows and feel free to add to the list!

The new ‘Allahyar and The Legend of Markhor’ song is awwn material

‘Allahyar and The Legend of Markhor’ sure isn’t the first animated Pakistani movie but it certainly will pave way for future animations since the quality and the aesthetics of this film are uber exceptional.

The new 'Allahyar and The Legend of Markhor' song is awwn material

The film recently released the new sound track called “Muskarai Ja” and it is adorable. The song is supposed to be an uplifting one since Allahyar is shown sad and demotivated in the beginning of the song.

The song sung by Natasha Humera Ejaz starts with classical music which is soon mashed with hip hop and the results are oh so pleasing.

Whether the plot and the characters are just as gripping as the visuals of the trailer is something only time will tell. The film is all set to hit the box office on 2nd February 2018.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

Arts and dramatics often play a huge part in cultural exchange between the countries. Dramas of any country tell the tale about the cultures and the norms of the society. However, in this regard, period dramas or those dramas that are based on history are different. In these dramas, an era is created and it more so happens to be similar to time travel where the viewers watching the drama are taken back to the times when the characters they see on screen were alive in real life and were struggling to create history.

It won’t be wrong to say that Turkish period drama Ertugrul Ghazi has become a phenomenon in Pakistan. It was after it was dubbed in Urdu and started airing on PTV, it gained overnight popularity and now everyone is talking about it because it hit home with the Pakistani audience and they are enjoying exploring the history that is being told in the series.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

Pakistani audiences are passionate about dramas but this is a different content that they are coming across. This is the reason they are connecting to it on an emotional level, however it is unfortunate that this passion has driven them to the level of criticism because some of them are unable to set the difference between the reel life and real life of the actors.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

Here’s What Pakistani Viewers Did To Turkish Stars

It was after they started learning more and more about the Ertugrul Ghazi’s star cast that they decided to follow their favorite Turkish stars on social media, but unfortunately they decided to treat them exactly how they treat their own Pakistani celebrities; with criticism. Be it Esra Bilgiç who played the role of Halima Sultan or Engin Altan Düzyatan who played the role of Ertugrul Ghazi, none of them were spared the wrath of the Pakistani viewers who were irrationally finding it hard to accept that the characters they have fallen in love were played by actors who lead a normal life.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

This is when the Pakistani viewers assigned themselves the duty of moral and religious police because they started trolling the Turkish stars by commenting on their choice of clothes, their choice of keeping pet dogs and also making impolite comments upon the star’s spouse. For these commenters, it might just be an unsolicited comment that they are passing, but they are forgetting about the fact that it is also going to leave an impression of their country.

The Ertugrul Ghazi star Engin Altan Düzyatan thanked the Pakistani audience for the overwhelming response in terms of popularity that they have given to the series but on the other hand, Pakistani audience are finding it hard to keep their comments civil and not cross the line in the name of criticism. The things that Pakistani viewers have said to the Turkish stars are bizarre and uncalled for. They have taken it up on them to teach them about the religion and are constantly asking the Turkish actors whether they are Muslims or not because Pakistanis can not stop being judgmental.

What Pakistani Viewers Took Away From The Turkish Series In Real Life

In this day and age where social media is a part of everyone’s life, it doesn’t take a rocket science for people to figure out the mentality of the general audience belonging to a certain country. It is unfortunate that the purpose for which the Turkish Series was aired on PTV has been completely lost and the Pakistani viewers have boiled it down to conveniently forgetting about the message by making it all about the actors who have portrayed those characters.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

The comments are overflowing which highlight the disappointment of the Pakistani viewers and in stead of talking about the efforts of the real Islamic Heroes from the past, they are only talking about the life of actors who have played these roles. Then there are also those who are insinuating that Pakistanis are coming to pass judgments, which in other words is nothing short of a mockery itself. Very rarely a few decent viewers have tried to undo the damage by posting positive comments but they are nothing in comparison to the negative comments that have already been posted under the Turkish actor’s pictures.

The Negative Impression Pakistani Fans Left on Ertugrul Stars

Some decided to bash their own Pakistani countrymen by pointing out the flaws, by resorting to profanity and abusive language. In their perspective, they were doing Turkish stars a favor by defending them and fighting with fellow Pakistanis but when looking at the bigger picture, it just shows that either way, they continued to troll and showed their sense of entitlement to have an opinion by passing final verdicts.

The Few Pakistani Fans Who Made Sense

Do you think Pakistani viewers should behave more responsibly? Is there a need for a regulatory authority which moderates the comments and helps prevent these kinds of unnecessary exchange of opinions which shows Pakistan in a bad light time and again? Pakistani viewers are leaving a bad impression on the Turkish actors, what do you have to say about it? Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section below.

The Name of Drama Kun Fayakun Has Been Changed

0

The name of the drama Kun faya kun written by Qaisera Hayat, directed by Ilyas Kashmiri & produced by MD Productions has been changed because of its involvement of an Arabic word that was extracted as it is From Quran and it is hurting religious sentiments of people. Imran Abbas, Alizey shah and Zarnish khan are the main leads of the drama . It seems that the  name wasn’t accepted by viewers also PEMRA has its ears and eyes open. Its high time writers should take responsibility while keeping the titles because they are more frequently used and written on news papers and websites, so there should not be any Verse from Holy Quran.

Religious groups are more active since the revolution of media and that is the main reason why actually writers need  to put up words that are extracted from Urdu Dictionary not the verses of Quran.

The drama also has an OST in which the verse is heard as song which seems a bit un pleasing as an audience.
The name of the drama has changed to Tu jo chahey which seems great. It seems that the production house has wisely changed name in right time to avoid any case and charge. Screenshot 20190815 203948

But the most hilarious is the nickname that the moulvi referred Sarah with during the nikkah. In an attempt to correct the cleric performing their nikkah, Falak went on to say Sarah’s correct name but the moulvi called out Sarah Kafarah and the attendees burst out laughing.

The Most Well-Dressed Television Artists

0

I couldn’t help noticing especially in the past few years that there are many television artists who pay special attention to their wardrobe. Not all the actors who are talented are well-dressed as well. I am not denying that talent comes first and the dressing sense later but it is also true that a good sense of dressing along with great talent can be a deadly combination. You will all agree with me that there is no doubt about how gifted the artists in the list are. We talk about their talent all the time, I thought it would be appropriate to acknowledge their good taste as well.

Who you think is well-dressed depends a great deal on your own likes and dislikes. For me looking elegant as well as stylish is what counts the most. It is also very important in my eyes if a person can look stylish and chic without showing too much skin. All the artists in the list are always seen dressed elegantly in award shows and other functions. They also put in extra amount of time and effort to dress up well for dramas they star in too.

Momal Sheikh

Momal Sheikh has always impressed me with her fashionable wardrobe. Whether she is dressed up formal or casual, this woman never fails to make a fashion statement that will make you stand up and take notice. White looks very pretty on her, she never goes overboard even when dressed formal.

momalmomalmomal

Hina Khawaja Bayat

Hina Khawaja Bayat has paid special attention to her wardrobe from the very first time we saw her on screen when she used to do only talk shows. There are actresses who have learned to dress up in style only after they entered the industry but Hina Khawaja had her own style statement when she entered the industry. Hina Khawaja plays a lot of attention to detail. Her matching lenses in Aunn Zara and her elegant sarees in Talkhiyaan and Zindai Gulzar Hai show what a great taste she has, that is all of her own! She looks just as stunning in casual kurtas, like the ones she wore in Shehr-e-Zaat.

hkbhkbHKB3

Sanam Jang

One thing is for sure that being stylish isn’t just about what you wear but it also has to do with how you carry what you are wearing. Sanam Jang is usually seen wearing clothes that are rather simple but she knows very well what kind of cuts suit her. She looks wonderful even in a long kurti and tights because she knows how to carry it. Her formal look very often is a long frock with pajama. Sanam Jang is another very wise television actress who knows what will look good on her.

sanamsanamsanam

Sarwat Gillani

Sarwat Gillani did not pay much attention to her looks when she entered the industry. Her style was always very casual. But things have changed tremendously now. Sarwat Gillani is always dressed to kill. She has groomed herself very well. I especially like Sarwat Gillani in embroided chiffon shirts; she wears them on usually on function.

sarwat gillanisarwat gillani 1sarwat gillani 3

Seemi Pasha

Seemi Pasha has been around for as long as I can remember. She always dresses up in trendy clothes that suite her perfectly. Apart from her chic dressing, her accessories are always well chosen. She is another artist who pays attention to every little detail that goes in to giving the perfect look.

seemi pashaseemi pasha 2seemi pasha 3

Adnan Siddiqui

Adnan Siddiqui has a certain class about him that very few other male actors have. He always looks dignified. He looks very smart in dress shirts in particular. There are many male actors in our industry who repeat their clothes in the serials so many times that you can literally count the number of shirts they bring on the set! Adnan Siddiqui experiments with different colors and styles and looks great in them.

adnanadnan1adnan2

Nauman Ijaz

I have never seen Nauman Ijaz wearing anything that does not suit him. Even if he is playing a character which demands that he dresses up in Kurta Shalwar only, he will choose the right kind of styles that suit him. Unlike many of our male actors who can’t even match a pair of trousers with a shirt; this man knows how to choose the right kind of wardrobe.

nomannoman1noman2

Javaid Sheikh

He is decent, well dressed and carries himself perfectly. Not to mention that he has aged very gracefully. Some celebrities never go out of style, Javaid Sheikh is most certainly one of those evergreen celebrities of our industry.

javaid sheikhjavaid sheikh 2javaid sheikh 3

Now that I think about it, I think there should be a separate list for actors who are good looking, act very well and also carry themselves well but don’t dress up right. Do you agree that all the artists mentioned in the list are well dressed? Would you like to add any other names?

The Most Well-Dressed Pakistani Actresses

0

The way you dress up shows your own aesthetic sense and how you view yourself. It is also a reflection of your personality. There is no denying the fact that Pakistani actresses have access to the best designers. Most of them also have the monetary resources to buy whatever they want. Therefore, it is their aesthetic sense which ultimately determines what they choose to wear. Every Pakistani actress has her own style. This style is one of the reasons for people like them. An actress’s image off-screen is just as important as her performance on-screen. Apart from that in dramas and talk shows their dressing plays a major role in giving these actresses the perfect appearance.

Here is the list of the most well-dressed Pakistani actresses.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our Industry

0

We see new shows launching everyday but unfortunately most actors are doing similar kinds of roles and they fail to show their versatility. They choose or are offered similar kinds of scripts and the viewers are not able to see their full potential as an actor. I have stated a few actors who top the list as the most versatile actors.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our IndustryWhen we hear the word versatility, the first actor that comes to everyone’s mind is Faisal Qureshi (currently seen in Mera Yaqeen and Mera Pehla Pyaar). He is one actor whose character you can fall in love with in serials like Maane Na Yeh Dil and Meri Unsuni Kahani, where he has played the lover boy or absolutely hate him in serials like Aik Hatheli Pe Hina Ek Hatheli Pe Laho, Umm-e-Kulsum and Man O Salwa where he has played negative roles to perfection. He can make you laugh by dressing up as a woman in Kis Din Mera Viyah Howega or make you cry by portraying a man drowned in guilt in Meri Zaat Zara e Benishan. From his dialogue delivery to his expressions, all is outstanding. His eyes alone can speak volumes and convey the deepest emotions. He is no doubt one of the best actors of our drama industry and is loved and respected by all viewers.
Furthermore, he is not only an actor but also a host in a morning show as well as a judge in a dance reality show. How he manages to be at so many places at once is something that boggles one’s mind.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our IndustryThe second in my list is Nouman Ijaz. He has proved again and again by his performance in a variety of roles that he is a versatile actor. He can be the all mighty and powerful Malik Wajahat in Mera Saeein; his performance in this drama leaves you in awe of him. At the same time, he can also be the timid man scared of his wife in Bari Apa. His performance leaves you spellbound and makes you wonder, ‘Is this the same man?’ He has the personality and the aura that helps him to portray each and every character to perfection. His performance in Jhumka Jan and Khamoshiyan is also commendable. His other popular serials include Man o Salwa, Lahasil, Dur e Shahwar and the list goes on.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our IndustryThe third in my list is Fahad Mustafa. If somebody had asked me a few years ago if Fahad was a versatile actor, I would have said no. But after his brilliant performance in Mein Abdul Qadir Hoon, he has left everyone speechless. His brilliant depiction of three opposite personalities of a single person was absolutely SUPERB! His performance has no doubt made everyone his hardcore fan. His negative character in Pul Sirat and Mera Saeein 2 was also appreciated by his fans. Although both these shows lacked a strong script and were not so successful, the main reason why I followed these shows was Fahad Mustafa’s splendid performance. His performance in his current show Ik Tamanna Lahasil Si, where he plays the obedient son again proves his versatility.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our IndustryThe fourth in my list is Humayun Saeed. He had been in the drama industry for a long time now and had given us shows such as Mehndi, Ijazat, Doraha who all have been a huge hit. However, his role in Kaafir had made me his fan all over again. His depiction of an egoistic man who considers himself god leaves one speechless. His grey shaded character in Ishq Junoon Deewangi leaves one spellbound. He has played the character of a person obsessed to a point of madness with a lot of finesse. His portrayal of a split personality disorder character in Uraan is definitely worth the applause.

The Most Versatile Male Actors of our IndustryThe fifth in my list is Adnan Siddiqui. He has been in the drama industry for more than two decades now. He has shown his versatility in serials like Parsa, Meri Zaat Zara e Benishaan where he has played the character of a man who had lost his love. He had also played negative or grey shaded characters in dramas like Doraha and Vasl. His other shows include Mehndi, Amar Bail, Mulaqat. His current role in Muhabbat Jaye Bhar Mein may lack a good story and screenplay but I found Adnan Siddiqui’s acting superb.

These are the top male actors of our industry who have proved their versatility time and again.

Mariam Shafique.

The Most Versatile Actors of Pakistani Drama Industry

Versatility sets an actor apart from rest of the crowd. Versatile actors get extra recognition and are considered more serious actors. This art however is not an easy one to learn because becoming a character actor is a personal choice and it showcases the dedication a certain actor has towards their profession. An actor has to be natural and talented at the same time, in order to do justice to different kinds of roles they choose to assign to themselves. There are quite a few actors in our industry who have played variety of characters in their vast career and they have nailed each one of these characters. Every new character these versatile actors play leaves its mark because of the overall impact the character has on the viewers, which by the end of the day is a result of their versatility and confidence. Versatility requires a new get-up, a completely different body language and of course a powerful performance to show that the actor understands his or her character really well. Unless an actor is able to understand the character he is playing, he cannot possibly bring his on-screen character to life.

Here is the list of some of the most versatile actors in our industry who are constantly making their presence felt in variety of roles and have proven their mettle in the field of acting time and again. The list however is in no particular order.

Saba Qamar

Saba Qamar’s acting skills have always been top-notch. She is a very confident actor who at all times knows what is expected from her which is why her performances always leave the viewers in awe of the perfect manner in which she translates each one of the roles assigned to her on screen no matter how different they are from one another. Saman’s character in Maat, Sadaf from drama serial Thakan, Ayesha of Uraan, Farida of Digest Writer, Dania from the play Bunty I Love You, Sitara From Mein Sitara and Mishi from Besharam are just a few characters which were very different from each other but all of them were translated beautifully on screen by Saba Qamar.

01-sq

Bushra Ansari

Bushra Ansari is an institute within herself when it comes to talent & acting. It is like a done deal that if Bushra Ansari is playing a certain role, it will end up being one such character that will leave an impact, irrespective of the nature of the character. From caricature-ish Saima Chauhdry of Baraat Series to everyone’s beloved loud & boisterous Bilqeees of Bilquees Kaur, from very controlling mother in Mera Naseeb & Jhoot to a very strong & iron-willed Sheedan in Udaari, you name it & Bushra Ansari has done that role to perfection. I believe there won’t be enough words to actually praise the work that she has done throughout her acting career but her inclusion in the list is absolutely necessary. It is actually quite commendable that even though our drama writers come up with more or less similar characters, Bushra Ansari makes sure that she doesn’t appear back to back in the roles that might be similar, that is why after a long time we got to see her play a very dominating mother in Jhoot recently, which is similar to the character that she played years ago in Mera Naseeb.

02-ba

Nauman Ijaz

When we speak about versatile actors of our drama industry, the name that immediately comes to your mind is that of Nauman Ijaz. He has been associated with the showbiz for so many years & has done numerous dramas but till date, Nauman Ijaz happens to be one such actor who always surprises his fans with very a unique performance every single time. From a ruthless feudal in Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi to a very obedient husband Farmaan in Bari Aapa, from very admirable Bhatti Sahab of Jackson Heights to heartless Gulistan Khan in Sang e Marmar, Nauman Ijaz has proved that he loves & takes pride in being versatile, that is why he happens to be one of those very few mature actors who completely transform their appearance to fit the roles that they are portraying, that is why each & every performance of his leaves an impact.

03-ni

Sammiya Mumtaz

Sammiya Mumtaz was stuck playing the same old roles ever since Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan went on air. She was always seen as the majbur aurat in dramas but even when she was playing the majbur aurat her acting was always flawless. When Sammiya Mumtaz played the role of Rasheeda in drama serial Sadqay Tumhare, she made the viewers forget every other character she had played till date and she also proved that she was just as capable of playing a very complicated and somewhat negative role as any other actress. Sadqay Tumhare was a turning point for Sammiya Mumtaz after which her role in Udaari was greatly appreciated as well and now her latest drama Faltoo Larki shows her in a completely different avatar.

04-sm

Sania Saeed

Sania Saeed is another character actor of Pakistani drama industry who has given one brilliant performance after another. Sania Saeed actually knows the art of conveying the feelings of her character to the viewers, which actually speaks about her experience as an actor & her love for & dedication to her profession. In her entire career, we have been blown away by Sania Saeed’s phenomenal performances one after another. Sania might definitely do a selective work but she actually attempts roles that are completely different to one another. Sania Saeed happens to be one such actress who actually gives every character a 100%, be it in terms of change in appearance, body language, dialogue delivery or voice modulation, which is why she actually takes her sweet time in appearing on screen. Even though Sania Saeed have given us a lot of brilliant performances, a few characters that she actually made unforgettable are Bari Sarkar in Aseerzadi, Mehrunnisa in Zard Mausam, Akhtari in Mor Mahal & as currently seen warming the hearts of the viewers in Sang e Marmar as Gulistan Khan’s wife.

05-ss

Syed Jibran

Syed Jibran has done it all from negative roles to those which make you feel for him and also comic roles in which he is not afraid to experiment with his looks and his acting is first-rate in all the plays he has ever acted in. Syed Jibran’s role in Mere Khawab Reza Reza made the viewers feel for his character and his role in drama serial Chup Raho made the audience hate his character too. He made his presence felt in drama serial Shuk and portrayed different shades of Mohsin’s character flawlessly. Right now he is playing two completely different roles in drama serials Noor-e-Zindagi and Khuda Mera Bhi Hai, both of which are not run-of-the-mill and have tons of room for performance. Syed Jibran is one of those actors who can make any role work by bringing out the best in all the characters he plays.

06-sj

Samina Peerzada

Samina Peerzada’s mention refreshes the memory of all those beautiful, unique & different characters that she has played in her career. Samina Peerzada is a veteran actor & that is why, her portrayal showcases the experience she has garnered over the years, due to which, she picks up the tone of her characters rightly & gives them a very accurate treatment. Samina Peerzada has shown her versatility by playing some very beautiful & some negative characters too. Where we all remember Samina Peerzada in beautiful roles like that of a submissive wife in Durr-e-Shehwar, a loving & caring Naani in Shehr-e-Zaat, a very optimistic & intuitive mother in Zindagi Gulzar Hai & Daastan & also a supportive mother in law in Rehaai, she also surprised the viewers with her impactful performances in negative light in the dramas like Noorpur Ki Raani, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan & App Ke Liye.

07-sp

Hina Bayat

Hina Bayat had certain limitations in terms of characters she could play when she joined the industry but Hina Bayat chose not to get typecast & always did a very selective & amazing work. Hina Bayat is mostly seen as a mother in our dramas but the variety she brings in all these roles by making them completely different to each other proves her versatility. If Hina Bayat can convey the positive characters flawlessly on screen, she can also portray the negative characters convincingly too. If we look at the characters that she has played till date, it goes to show how different & unique her choices have been. Hina has provided the viewers with a variety by portraying completely different roles in the dramas like Mata-e-Jaan, Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Aunn Zara, Aik Nayi Cinderella, Muqaddas & Tere Mere Beech. Her recent portrayals as Shabnam Qureshi in Sanam & Nida’s mother in Dil Banjara have taken the viewers by surprise because she has nailed those characters with her brilliant acting.

08-hb

Faisal Qureshi

Faisal Qureshi’s acting is effortless. He takes what he does very seriously, something which is quite apparent from the overall impact all of his characters have on the viewers. He has played roles which were nuanced, those which lied on the extremes and also those which made the viewers laugh. Faysal Qureshi’s roles in hit drama serials like Qaid-e-Tanhai, Mera Naam Abdul Qadir Hai, Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan, Roag, Rang Laga and Bashar Momin all were dynamic and Faisal Qureshi did complete justice to them. Even when Faisal Qureshi does not play meaty roles in dramas, he makes sure that his acting never falters.

09-fq

Sarwat Gillani

Sarwat Gillani is another one of those actresses who put their best foot forward every single time. Her looks and the way she acts is different in every drama and she is one of those actresses who try to take projects which offer variety of roles and these roles most often have a lot of room for performance. Sarwat Gillani played the role of Mahi in Malaal, Hania in Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Zoya in Dil-e-Muztar among others and each of these roles had a very different appearance and story. Very soon Sarwat Gillani will once again be seen in a unique role in drama serial Seeta Bagri which goes to prove that she is constantly trying new things and excelling every time.

10-sg

Saba Hameed

This name brings a whole lot of history with it because Saba Hameed is one such actress who has attempted all sorts of roles in her long career. We all remember Saba Hameed from Family Front, where she played a role of a naive housewife to perfection, setting an example in the genre of comedy with her amazing acting. Saba Hameed also impressed the viewers with her performances as stern mother in law in most of the dramas & just recently her performance as Zulekha in Dil Lagi testified her experience as an actor. Saba Hameed has done variety of roles where in few dramas she made us dislike her character the most, she also also made us feel for her in the dramas where she played the roles of caring mother. There was a time when Saba Hameed was being typecast but it is good to see her breaking the monotony & trying different roles now.

11-sh

Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan only has a handful of dramas to her credit but every time she chose to do a project she refused to be typecast. After playing a rather simple role of Khirad in drama serial Hamsafar which was a massive hit, she refused to be stereotyped and was seen in a much more complicated role which went through various transitions in drama serial Shehr-e-Zaat. In Sadqay Tumhare she played another role which was different from both Falak and Khirad, Shano was more rebellious and her story and background was poles apart from both the prominent characters Mahira Khan had played in her previous plays. Right now in Bin Roye Mahira’s character plays the role of an immature girl who is hopelessly in love. Just like all the other versatile actors in this list Mahira Khan too has owned every character she has played till date.

12-mk

Saleem Mairaj

Saleem Mairaj has been acting in theater and television both for a long time but it was only when he starred in the soap Kash Mein Teri Beti Na Hoti that his potential was exploited to the maximum. He played the role of a head of an affluent family who was very controlling and bossy. Even with a demeanor that didn’t exactly suit the role, his performance was convincing and flawless. He played the role of a malang who was one of a kind in Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahin equally convincingly and most recently for a long time his acting was the reason viewers hated and loved Jamil’s character in drama serial Mann Mayal. Right now he is playing yet another role which is different from all the other roles he has played so far in Noor-e-Zindagi. Saleem Mairaj, just like all the other versatile actors in this list always managed to sport a completely different look for all his characters and delivered every time.

13-sm

Imran Ashraf

Imran Ashraf has joined the drama industry recently but it is because of his flawless acting that he has made a name for himself & is now seen as a part of popular dramas. Imran Ashraf has been versatile in his choice of characters too because from comedy to negative roles, he has almost covered all the genres in such a short span of time. Imran Ashraf happens to be one such actor who makes acting come naturally to him, that is why he performs effortlessly. His character as Dastageer in Dil Lagi earned him a lot of attention because he acted his character brilliantly by adding a touch of humor to it & seriousness as well when required. On the basis of his performances till date, Imran Ashraf can be easily labelled as an all-rounder.

14-ia

Malik Raza

Malik Raza has been in the industry from quite time now but he never got to showcase his talent as he was hardly seen on the mainstream entertainment channels & in popular dramas. Irrespective of the popularity of the drama, Malik Raza has proved that he is a character actor & he is going to give a 100% in all the roles that are assigned to him. It is good to see him taking such challenging roles which allow him to showcase his talent like that of Bakshi Jee in Jugnoo & Wahab Sunyara in Besharam, both these characters are so different to each other but Malik Raza proved his versatility by completely transforming his get up to adapt to the role he was assigned to portray, which is not only difficult but commendable too.

15-mr

Saba Faisal

Saba Faisal joined the industry at a mature age where she could portray limited roles like that of a mother or a mother in law, but in such a short span of time, she has proved her versatility by taking up different kind of characters & giving them a persoanlity with her flawless acting. Saba Faisal has shown that no matter what the nature of the character is going to be, she can take it a notch higher with her portrayal of it. Saba was also seen in Sangat, as a professor & a single mother & the look that she gave to her character in Sangat testified that she not only gives her best shot in terms of acting, but also in terms of personality & the nature of the character that she is portraying.

The most sane reply from India so far!

Since Pakistan won in Champions Trophy by defeating India in the finals; Indians are trolling their team. Posters of players were burned and no-tolerance policy was adopted. In the end they somehow forgot there is a sport called cricket in this world and all that was left was hockey. But in all this mess an Indian lady Archana Mohan has written a very beautiful letter on facebook and this is probably the sanest reaction from India.

The most sane reply from India so far!

Many people appreciated her but at the same time she got a lot of backlash too. We wish a time may come when sport will be looked at as sports with fun, excitement and peace and not a matter of egos.

Sarwat and Fahad are vocal about their love life and they don’t hesitate from telling about their personal life.

The Most Romantic Thing Sarwat Gilani's Husband Did For Her

Recently, she appeared in The Shoaib Akhtar Show in which she revealed about the most romantic thing her husband Fahad Mirza did for her. Talking about it, she said, “the most romantic thing he did was the way he proposed to me, He reserved a whole corner at Sakura, he got that decorated with flowers and candles and told me that he has also invited his friends over there, he also asked me to dress up beautifully, when I went there, there were no friends of Fahad and I instantly understood what’s happening, that was most romantic thing he did for me, I think, I and Fahad are generally most romantic people, even our friends say to us to go home when we are together in public”. Have a look at the video link:

Fahad and Sarwat Gilani’s vacation picture from Rome, Italy, went viral in which they posed for a kissing picture. Have a look at the pictures:

The Most Promising Newcomers

0

It has been quite a while since I made a list of talented newcomers in the television industry because honestly speaking many of the newcomers in the industry lately seemed to be more disappointing than promising. Things have change in the past few months though, there are a few new actors and actresses who have greatly impressed many with their acting skills and sometimes it is difficult to tell that they are newbies. Here is a list of newcomers who are very talented and are sure to go a long way.

1. Sanam Jung

Sanam Jung is just plain adorable; seeing her on screen is always refreshing. I admit that there are times when her acting can leave a lot to be desired for but there are also times when she completely steals the show. Dil-e-Muztar is Sanam’s first television play but she has been associated with the world of showbiz for many years now. Sanam Jung does need to polish her acting skills more but for a newbie she is doing a great job. I am sure all she needs to do is to work with a few good directors and she will be one of the most sought after actresses around. You know what I really like about this girl – her confidence and of course her beautiful smile. Sanam Jung seems like a go-getter and I honestly believe that the right attitude can take anyone a long way. She is full of energy and vibrant, I especially noticed that when she hosted the Zindagi Gulzar Hai special show.

 sanam jung

2. Mira Sethi

Yes Natasha is very annoying! Probably one of the most annoying and negative characters that we have seen on screen in a long time but the fact that we hate her so much goes to prove that the actress Mira Sethi who is playing this character is doing a brilliant job. I have to say that there have been many times when I have sided with Natasha’s character and tried defending her outrageous behavior only because I love the actress. It is difficult to tell that Silvatein is Mira Sethi’s first play because she is performing so well. I hope that we will be seeing more of Mira Sethi very soon and I also hope the next time around she does something completely different.

3. Mukarram Kaleem

Mukarram Kaleem started his acting career from the play Aik Nayee Cinderella but for me he really stands out in the play Aunn Zara. Mukarram Kaleem plays the Leading character’s best friend Manzar. The two friends are very close to one another so Manzar’s character is an important one in the show. Acting comes very naturally to this young man, he has the confidence to face the camera and his body language and expressions are just perfect. Will we be seeing Mukarram Kaleem in comedy roles only in the future too? I hope not, I hope we see him in more diverse roles.

mukaram kaleem

4. Suniya Shamshad

Suniya is not a newcomer in the strict sense of the word but Rehaii proved to be the first break through for her. Suniya proved that if she works with a good director and a strong script, she has very good potential. She is unquestionably another actress who is likely to go a long way if given the opportunity.

rehaii

5. Sundus Tariq

I have Sundas Tariq act in Hamnasheen and in Maan Ke Moti, she has completely different roles in both the plays but she does complete justice to both of them. She deserves to get meatier roles in the future so that she can prove her talent further.

Would you like to add any other names to the list? Are there any other new actors who you think have a lot of potential? Feel free to add to the list.

The Most Predictable Endings In Pakistani Dramas

0

While some Pakistani dramas stay logical and entertaining right till the end, there are unfortunately so many writers who often do not give these dramas the best ending. The writers have also talked about this situation in interviews. Sometimes they are forced to end a drama in a way they do not necessarily agree with. Everyone likes watching a happy ending but there are also so many dramas in which people want things to unravel gradually and they want that the ending is logical more than anything else. Sometimes in order to deliver the happy ending, the writers end up showing endings that are not even acceptable.

Some of these endings are so repetitive that most of the viewers do not even question them anymore! We have seen such kind of endings so many times that if any drama ends on a different note, it is nothing short of astonishing! Some of these endings basically show that most of our writers can write down an interesting story, they fail to end the story in a way that is pleasing. Most of the writers take the same old route which is why it is almost easy to guess how a certain drama will end.

Here are some of the most predictable and done-to-death endings of Pakistani dramas.

The Female Villian Goes Insane

Yes, only the female villain! Somehow the men in Pakistani dramas do not lose their sanity even though they are also equal culprits. In popular drama serials such as Balaa, Mehboob Apke Qadmon Mei, and Jhooti the female villains ran the show for 25 plus episodes. The sole reason why people kept on watching these shows was to see how they end up. They lost their senses in the end and that was their punishment. In Balaa and Jhooti, they also gave themselves a haircut which was identical! This ending has been used by writers in many other dramas as well. This is a convenient ending which the writers use to show that in the end this character is left with nothing and no one. There is no concept of penalizing the culprit in our dramas and most often even if it is done, the execution is not gratifying enough.

The Most Predictable Endings In Pakistani Dramas

In drama serial Titlee, the main lead also had a similar ending. Basically all those women who are greedy or evil end up going insane! Would Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida and Dilruba have similar endings?

The Men Are Forgiven, Women Are Punished

It takes two to tango but most of the Pakistani writers do not agree with this theory at all! They show the men treating their wives like trash in more than 20 episodes but in the end somehow only the other woman is blamed and punished. We have seen some of the worst endings in which the wives forgave their useless husbands in the last episode while the other woman was completely blamed for everything. In drama serial Mere Bewafa, the most disloyal and irresponsible husband was forgiven with a smile and a hug at the very last minute while his second wife walked away! In Thora Sa Haq, the situation and ending were equally bizarre! And let’s not forget, Ghar Titli Ka Par in which somehow Anji was the only one to be blamed!

The Most Predictable Endings In Pakistani Dramas

It is shocking how easily the drama writers forgive the men and put the blame on the woman. The wife also goes back to her husband as if he had never done anything wrong. This has to be the most repetitive and off-putting ending in Pakistani dramas.

Killing The Main Lead

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar is known for killing the main lead in the most dramatic manner. He is the only writer whose dramas end in this manner therefore it is highly predictable how his dramas would end. He shared in an interview that he does not believe in happy endings. Although some of these endings were too powerful to be forgotten, it can be safely stated that they are also getting repetitive. All these deaths were different but the reason was the same – love or the lack of it. Whether it was Sadqay Tumhare, Bunty I Love You, Pyare Afzal, Mere Pass Tum Ho, or Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei, in the last episode some significant character was either killed or they committed suicide.

The Most Predictable Endings In Pakistani Dramas

In the recent drama Yeh Dil Mera, Farhat Ishtiaq also gave the two villains a similar ending. It seems like some of the other writers are getting inspired by these endings! The difference is that Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar kills off the characters people love and Farhat Ishtiaq killed the characters viewers hated.

The Most Unusual Unions

Sometimes there is so much pressure on the writers to bring two characters in the drama together that they end up bringing them together even though their union makes no sense. Ishq Tamasha and Aangan were two such recent dramas in which the union of the leading characters was so illogical that it was disturbing! Such endings show that the writers take their viewers for granted, they just go with whatever the popular opinion is on social media and do not give consideration to the actual events that have been shown all through the drama. In some of the dramas, the leading lady and the hero are meant to be together in the end whether it makes any sense or not! Such happy endings definitely do not please everyone.

The Most Predictable Endings In Pakistani Dramas

What do you think about these endings? Were they logical or not?

The most powerful duo- Atif Aslam and Arjit Singh

Atif Aslam is one of the most famous and popular singer and also film actor of Pakistani Showbiz Industry. He has managed to make a name for himself in not only Pakistan but worldwide. He has truly become the pride of Pakistan.

The most powerful duo- Atif Aslam and Arjit Singh

Arjit Singh is a very famous Indian singer, composer and music producer. He has composed some of the most beautiful and popular songs of all time. Just like Atif, he makes his country proud every day.The most powerful duo- Atif Aslam and Arjit Singh

Now imagine these two forces joining hands and working on a single project. Wouldn’t that be marvelous? Well, hold on to your seats tight because that is happening!

The superstars of sub-continent are going to perform together in the Bollywood song “Musafir”.

The movie “Sweetiee Weds NRI” has four versions of this song, of which one will be performed by the most anticipated duo of both singers. The song is composed by Palash Muchhal who is keen on bringing in talent, regardless of the borders.

The Most Overrated Dramas Of This Season!

TRPs matter a great deal for everyone involved in the business of drama making, while there are still very few writers and producers for whom quality matters more than the quantity of viewers praising the show on social media, the fact is that most of them care about ratings alone! When the competition is intense and there isn’t enough time to come up with a solid script then drama makers very often rely on shortcuts to achieve results which most often guarantee that their project has everyone’s undivided attention. Social suggestion also plays a pivotal role in helping (weak/easily influenced) people decide what they want to tune into, buy or even “like”! Recently, a video has been circulating on the web in which a common man poses to be a celebrity in order to check how people react to a situation in which someone is being given star status by others but they have no idea who he is. Surely enough, most people fell for it and ended up praising this person’s music who isn’t even a singer and were lined up to look at him and were dying to take a selfie with him! This social experiment said a great deal about the role marketing, social suggestion and a certain image has on the general public. This is the reason why our drama makers who are making a serial with the intent of making it a commercial hit make sure that they cast big names, choose a sensitive/controversial topic, give a lot of interviews and create a buzz on social media long before the drama airs.

Unfortunately this season for most of the viewers a twisted storyline, controversial twists and turns, make-up that is right on point no matter what the characters are going through, star power and most importantly proper marketing has worked wonders! Dramas which have no substance are being watched more than many other plays with a more definite storyline. These dramas which are commercial hits are the most overrated dramas of this season for the reasons I have mentioned below!

Baaghi

Baaghi was promoted as Qandeel Baloch’s biopic, one which was somehow going to narrate Qandeel’s story without “glorifying” her. Qandeel Baloch’s name alone was enough to get the viewers interested therefore getting the attention of the general public was never an issue for team Baaghi. This drama was in the news many months before it aired, later on Saba Qamar’s photo shoots which were a copy of Qandeel’s actual pictures, piqued the interest of the viewers even more. Saba Qamar’s massive fan following in Pakistan as well as across the border made the viewers tune into the show since in her interviews she said that this role was unlike any other she had played so far.

The Most Overrated Dramas Of This Season!

Baaghi’s marketing couldn’t have been better and it worked like a charm but the actual content of the show is anything but impressive. The producers obviously bit off more than they could chew and failed to tell Qandeel’s story in an honest manner. The focus of the show indeed is not only glorifying but also defending Qandeel’s actions for some reason. The fact that every episode of Baaghi focuses on just that and the writer has failed to turn the protagonist into a more interesting and dynamic character made this drama one of the most repetitive and dull dramas of the season yet somehow it is a massive success in terms of TRPs! This drama has been “valued” by the general public, the blogs and social media much more than it deserved!

Khaani

Khaani is another play which was promoted as the next big thing on social media and the producers flaunt the ratings it is getting every chance they get. This drama is overrated because it relies heavily on overdramatic twists and turns which most often question the intelligence of viewers. A heroine who is being celebrated as the epitome of women empowerment ends up falling in love in the most ridiculous manner with the man who murdered her brother. Khaani makes a mockery of all those families out there who have been through similar situations in real life.

The Most Overrated Dramas Of This Season!

Most of the comments on social media suggest that just like Khaani (the main protagonist) the viewers didn’t have a difficult time accepting a murderer as a hero which is why they have no issue rooting for a happy ending for him. The drama relies heavily on its beautiful cast therefore no matter what Khaani and Hadi are going through, they always look picture perfect. The script of the drama is  highly misguided, unconvincing and callous to say the least. It is truly upsetting when drama makers pick a sensitive topic but fail to do to justice to it.

Aisi Hei Tanhai

Aisi Hei Tanhai is another drama on this list which raises a social issue but just like every other drama on the list, it doesn’t deal with the issue seriously and relies heavily on making an ultimate victim out of its main protagonist. Characters which plead for the viewer’s sympathy and just like Khaani over-reliance on make-up and good looks kills the actual essence of all the scenarios which have been shown so far. Aisi Hei Tanhai’s script is greatly inspired from all those shocking headlines in newspapers which leave the readers terribly upset but the problem is that the drama does not serve a bigger purpose. Aisi Hei Tanhai is also yet another one of those dramas in which the victim’s mother is her biggest enemy!

The Most Overrated Dramas Of This Season!

We have seen dramas in which the mother stands and guards outside the door while her daughter’s rapist is in the same room as her, we have also seen plays in which the victim’s mother shelters her rapist for years and never finds out who he really is but this drama takes the whole inhuman and selfish mother scenario to a whole new level! The mother tries to kill her daughter after finding out how something terrible she did gave a bad name to her family, declares her dead after abandoning her in a hospital, marries her older daughter to her supposedly dead daughter’s ex-boyfriend (as a punishment for that man!) and later on ends up accepting him as her son! The way this mother moved on after abandoning her daughter is a joke yet the writer managed to gain the viewer’s sympathies because of Sami Khan and Sonya Hussyn’s characters and their journey. Sonya Hussyn’s performance is unimpressive in the play and there are even times when she doesn’t deliver her dialogues right. Nadia Khan cannot act to save her life! Sami Khan’s character and acting is the only saving grace of this drama. Aisi hei Tanhai is Pakistani version of all those star plus dramas in which the most unconvincing scenarios are shown yet the viewers continue coming back for their weekly dose of crazy!

Do share your thoughts about this drama and feel free to add to the list.

The Most Odd On-Screen Couples of Pakistani Dramas

What makes an on screen couple odd? The answer is simple, the wrong choice of actors, lack of chemistry between the stars playing their respective roles and the way their track is introduced and carried forward both by the writer and the director. Sometimes the story is not strong but poignant performances, sleek direction and on screen chemistry between the leads can make an on screen couple a hit. At other times even when the actors give their best performances and the director puts in his best effort too, the overall product is not impressive because the story-line is dodgy.

Here is the list of some of the most odd couples from a few recent drama serials.

Aiman Khan & Sajid Hassan (Beqasoor)

Sajid Hassan is one of the most talented actors of our drama industry therefore it was just plain sad watching him being part of a drama like Beqasoor. Older men get married to younger girls all the time in dramas but the shocking age difference between Shehryar (Sajid Hassan) and Sehr (Aiman Khan) and the way some of the scenes after they got married were shot coupled with the dialogues and few of the developments made their track cringe-worthy. This particular couple is in the list because of the way their track was covered and the overall developments in their story. Like every other track in Beqasoor it had absolutely no depth and it got worse with every passing episode. Sajid Hassan and Aiman Khan both gave brilliant performances but the twists in their track were so absurd that it was a total failure.

01-bayqasoor

Hareem Farooq & Osman Khalid Butt (Sanam)

Sanam being the highly anticipated drama actually came with the biggest shock for the viewers when the promos suggested that OKB was paired opposite Hareem Farooq. The disappointment also came with a reason that people were still not ready to accept the favorite Mother-Son duo from Diyar-e-Dil as a Married Couple in Sanam. By the time Sanam started, a lot of people gave Hareem & OKB’s pair a chance thinking that they will be getting to see some unconventional sort of a couple & the casting director must’ve had something in his mind, only to find out that it was a bad bad bad decision that he made. Aila & Harib’s characters weren’t etched out properly by the writer which made the hopes of the viewers falter but what made things worst was the fact that the viewers couldn’t curb the oddness which peaked through while seeing Hareem & OKB together as a couple because they lacked chemistry & didn’t look like a married couple from any angle. OKB looks best when he is paired against petite actresses & Hareem’s personality is surely not petite, which is why in all those scenes where Harib was seen chanting Aila Jaan, it made the viewers feel that he actually meant Aila Baji Jaan.

02-sanam

Humayun Saeed & Armeena Rana (Bin Roye)

Even with all its weaknesses Bin Roye is a much better drama than many other dramas in this list but since we are talking about odd couples therefore the leading pair of Bin Roye Saman and Irtiza definitely fits the bill. These roles are being played by the very talented Hamayun Saeed and not-so-talented Armeena Rana Khan. The reason why this couple is odd is that there is absolutely no chemistry between Armeena Rana and Hamayun Saeed. Another reason is that the scenes covering their relationship were too short in the last two episodes. The few conversations they had when Irtiza used to visit Saman often in the US were quite monotonous. Most of the viewers have not been able to relate to the connection these two characters share because of these two reasons and also because most of the times Armeena Rana Khan’s confusing expressions and shaky dialogue delivery leaves you disappointed.

03-bin-roye

Zahid Ahmed & Sonia Mishal (Sangat)

This has to be the most odd couple in this list for obvious reasons! The way Salma’s character stood by Shahwez even after finding out that he had raped someone was just plain sick! We have seen many desperate girls in dramas who love a man even though they can never be with him but Salma really was one-of-a-kind and not in a good way! Shahwez played the role of the rapist and the hero at the same time and Salma’s character was used repeatedly to plead Shahwez’s case. This couple was odd not just because of their relationship with each other but right till the end the viewers never really figured out why their relationship was given so much importance. Zahid Ahmed’s talent was wasted in this drama because of the way the story was taken forward.

04-sangat

Saboor Ali & Salahuddin Tunio (Beqasoor)

Yes Beqasoor had some really odd couples to its credit! Saboor Ali’s character Hira was shown as a girl who would even jump off a cliff to please her step-father and she did just that when she decided to marry the suitor Ameen (Salahuddin Tunio) which her father had selected for her. Hira kept on going back to Ameen for various reasons and they got plenty of screen time together. The choice of actors clearly shows why this had to be one of the most odd couples in drama history. Saboor Ali somehow is part of two other projects in which she will likely end up marrying men who are not exactly her age. In Tere Chah Mein her character is about to marry a man much older than her and her character is seen flirting with Faisal Qureshi in the promos of drama serial Waada – more odd couples coming our way?

05-bayqasoor

Adnan Siddique & Mawra Hocane (Aahista Aahista)

Yes, we all know the fact that Awazaar (Zawar) was shown years & years, probably a couple of decades older to Haya but to see them romancing right underneath the eyes of Zawar’s first wife Sofia was so inappropriate. I can’t remember how many times I felt nauseous seeing them acting all lovey dovey with each other. It is not a secret anymore that Adnan Siddique likes to be paired with girls quarter his age, but that drama included a lot such scenes where both Adnan & Mawra had to show how much they loved each other, which was nothing but puke-worthy. The fact that Haya was ready to sacrifice everything for Awazar because she was in love without even knowing him personally made the viewers question the credibility of the writer. It was directed by Haseeb Hassan & it reminds me that even in Aahista Aahista, Awazar was mad about the Pakistani parathas that Haya rolled, just like Harib is about Aan’s parathas in Sanam, I guess Haseeb Hassan has a thing for parathas, hmmmm!!!

06-aahista-aahista

Ayesha Khan & Danish Taimoor (Shert)

Just as weird as the plot of the drama was, the pairing of Ayesha Khan opposite Danish Taimoor was odd too. In a few episodes, Ayesha Khan’s character was married to Syed Jibran & we could see how they both looked good together because they fall in the same age bracket. When Ayesha’s character got married to Danish’s in the later part of the drama after so much of flirting & what not, not only their scenes, their conversations & their chemistry was bad, the overall age difference between the two made things far more cringe-worthy. Ayesha Khan’s character was quite desperate in the drama where she only gets married to Danish to get back with her husband & in the middle of this, she falls pregnant while she is married to him *pukes*. Well long story short, it was hard to sit through Ayesha Danish’s scenes not only because the relation they shared was bizarre but also because even a lot of tight curls & Khaadi’s Kurtas designed for girls, the drama-makers couldn’t curb the fact that Ayesha basically looked like Danish’s Bari Appa Jee!

07-shert

Sana Javed & Murad Jahanzaib (Zara Yaad Kar)

We all know that Mahnoor got Umar Din as a punishment for all the mistakes that she committed in life & the writer wanted to justify that after suffering a lot, Haadi ended up being the one who sentenced Mahnoor to life-long imprisonment by getting her married to Umar Din, but the idea of that couple still haunts me to date, that’s why the inclusion seems inevitable!

08-zara-yaad-kar

Samina Peerzada & Waseem Abbas (Aap Ke Liye)

They both are very experienced actors & they both are hired to play a negative role in a drama. There is absolutely nothing wrong in pairing them as a couple but the treatment both Samina Peerzada & Waseem Abbas have given to the characters of Nishat & Imdad is bizarre to say the least. In quite a few scenes, Nishat & Imdad are seen suggestively flirtatious with each other which makes their scenes hard to sit through & what’s worse is seeing Waseem Abbas in a Beige Silk Night Suit time & again! Considering the amount of experience they both have, it is actually sad to see them going over-board with their portrayal & coming across as creepy, negative & the most odd couple on-screen of recent times.

09-aap-ke-liye

So, there you have it, our list of the most odd couples of Pakistani dramas. I think the casting directors have a huge responsibility on their shoulders when it comes to casting actors for different roles because by the end of the day, it is an actor’s job to elaborate a character on screen, so when the choice isn’t going to be right to begin with, it will definitely impact the outcome of the drama.

What do you guys think about the list of odd couple, please feel free to share your thoughts & add more names to the list too.

Famous morning show host Nida Yasir has recently spilled the beans on one of the most embarrassing moment of her life.

During the live show, Nida Yasir shared that one of the most embarrassing moment she experienced in her life was in front of Sania Saeed. “I went to Indus vision for an interview with my newly born elder son, Fareed. I met Sania Saeed over there. As my son was newly born Sania was very happy and excited to see him for the very first time.”

“Immediately Sania opened her bag to get something. As soon as she opened her bag I stopped her from giving money to my son as a gift. I thought that she’s going to give cash to my son as she saw him for the first time. The moment she took out a gajra (flowers) from her bag I got so embarrassed. When I told Yasir about this incident he also made fun of me”, added Nida.

The Most Memorable Characters Of 2012

0

The year 2012 was absolutely fabulous in terms of good quality dramas, the year started off with bidding farewell to some unforgettable plays like Hamsafar and Maat and just when we thought that Pakistani dramas could not get any better we were very soon hooked to plays like Durr-e-Shehwar, Bilquess Kaur and Shehr-e-Zaat. There were plays like Ek Nazar Meri Taraf, Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai, Thakaan, Annie Ki Aye Gi Baraat and Kuch Pyar Ka Pagal Pan which glued the audience to the TV screens. I already talked about the hits and misses of 2012 in my previous article, so now I would like to talk about some of the characters in the plays of 2012 that will never be forgotten and their memories are etched in my mind forever. Here is a list of some awe inspiring characters from 2012.

abbaSami Sahib From Durr-e-Shehwar:

Anyone who watched the play Durr-e-Shehwar must have fallen in love with Abba’s letters and the heart felt conversations that Durr-e-Shehwar had with her father. Despite of his fears and worries for his daughter Sami sahib knew that with his support his daughter will be able to pass gracefully through a very problematic phase of life. Mohammad Ahmed played this role beautifully and every second girl wanted that she should have access to Sami sahib’s letters in order to keep her strong during difficult times. A very kind, just, brave, loving and adorable character etched out superbly by non other than Umera Ahmed.

aimenAimen from Maat:

Yes, she was too good to be true and little did we know that there will be a line of such characters after this play but I remember that at the time when I was watching Maat, Aimen came across as a very loving sister, who I wanted should win at all costs. Aminah Sheikh impressed us all with her acting skills in Maat and portrayed the character perfectly.

siffatSiffat from Ek Nazar Meri Taraf:

There was a time when I felt like the play Ek Nazar Meri Taraf was being stretched unnecessarily but I have to admit that while I was watching this play Siffat’s character seemed so real that I found myself worrying for her, forgetting that it was just a character in a drama. Siffat was innocent, vulnerable and in a very difficult situation. Alishba Yusef nailed the character right from the start and I have never seen her crying so much on screen. Honestly speaking, there was no other character that made me cry so much all through the year.

nanni

Naani From Shehr-e-Zaat:

Naani’s dialogues from Shehr-e-Zaat gave us a lot to think about and an opportunity to reflect upon things that we generally do not give a second thought to. Naani was gentle, caring and had so many pearls of wisdom to share with her viewers. Samina Peerzada has to be everyone’s favorite nani and I am no different; she is very graceful and extremely talented. Naani’s character was excellently conceived and brilliantly acted out, one that would stay with us for a very long time.

bilquessBilquees Kaur from Bilquees kuar:

Bilquess Kaur always came across as a very dominating and controlling woman who would have done anything to make her kids stay under one roof. Bushra Ansari played the Sikhni, who converted to Islam, married to a seemingly docile Muslim husband but also kept her Sikh values intact. There were times when we felt for Bilquees because she seemed like a very sensitive person who longed to be loved just like anyone else but there were many many times when Bilquees just seemed like a very selfish woman. The truth revealed in the end changed how we felt about Bilqeuess altogether. The story may have had loopholes and the ending may have seemed rushed to many but overall Bilquess Kaur’s character was a very unique one. Faiza Iftikhar deserves due credit for etching out such a multi-faceted character.

uroojUrooj From Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley:

Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley started off on a very positive note and we all loved Urooj’s character until he fell victim to the storyline. Urooj was confident despite of his disabilities and Shehryaar Munawar completely won us over with his acting and charm. When Urooj was truned into a mere caricature, we all felt gravely led down but it was great while it lasted and this is another character that I will remember for a very long time.

saimaSaima Chaudhry From Annie Ki Aye Gi Baraat:

I never followed Annie Ki Aye Gi Barat very religiously but whenever I did it was because I needed a dose of laughter which only Saima Chaudhry, the designer from Faislabad could guarantee. Buhsra Ansari has proven to be the queen of the comedy time and again and this character suited her perfectly. Saima chaudhry’s go for it and get it approach was also one of the reasons why I liked her so much and really enjoyed the character.

minahilMinahil From Tishnagi:

Tishnagi was one of those plays that you just catch on-screen by chance and you get hooked on it without even realizing it. Minahil was played to perfection by Sarwat Gillani. Minahil was a strong and determined girl who did everything in her power to save her marriage. Although the ending of the play was very disappointing but Minahil’s character was one of the few good characters in 2012.

All the characters I mentioned are from the plays that ended in 2012, please feel free to add to the list and also share your opinion about the characters that are there in the list. I am quite certain that this New Year will give us some more lovable and memorable characters. I already like so many of them. We are truly blessed to have some very gifted writers, directors, producers and actors who bring us wholesome entertainment all through the year.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

This year although there were many actors who put their heart and soul into their performances and bowled the viewers over completely but there were only a handful of actors who were most sought after and they received a lot of love and appreciation from the viewers. Some of these actors were relatively new but their popularity sky rocketed this year because of their impressive performances and the kind of projects they chose to be a part of. Some of the actors in this list are those who have been associated with the drama industry for a long time but this year the performances they give outdid all the other ones they have ever given. They were the kind of performances which gave these actors a new identity.

Here is a list of those actors who the viewers fell in love with over and over again!

Ahad Raza Mir

He came, he saw and he conquered would be the best way to describe Ahad Raza Mir‘s few months in the drama industry. He started his acting career with drama serial Sammi in which he played the role of a young man who did not let his mother hold him back from helping someone in need. His role in Yakeen Ka Safar however won him unprecedented popularity. He translated Dr. Asfandyar’s role so brilliantly on screen that people fell in love with the character and the actor himself. Ahad Raza Mir entered the industry wanting to carve an identity for himself because he didn’t want people to know him as Asif Raza Mir’s son only. He surely managed to do just that which is why he is definitely one of the most impressive newcomers in the year 2017. A talented actor, a heart throb and a wonderful human being, Ahad Raza Mir deserved all the love he got from the viewers this year.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Sami Khan

Sami Khan has always given every character he has ever played his best but this time around in drama serial Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua he played a rather complicated character faultlessly. This character wouldn’t essentially have been too likeable either if it wasn’t translated on screen so well. Sami Khan made the viewers fall in love with his performance more than the character itself. He brought out the best in Faris’ character and the viewers loved watching him playing a leading role in one of HUM’s best plays this year. Sami Khan’s award-worthy performance gave the viewers a reason to look forward to his future projects as well and definitely gave them the reason to shower him with love and praise.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Bilal Abbas Khan

Bilal Abbas Khan was part of some of the best drama serials this year. He proved his versatility by translating every character he played brilliantly on screen. Bilal Abbas Khan got recognition and appreciation for his work. The fact that he isn’t just talented but is also good looking and has a pleasant personality makes him a complete package. Although Bilal Abbas hasn’t been associated with the showbiz industry for too long but he has most certainly made a big place for himself in people’s hearts as well as in the showbiz circles. We are pretty sure that he will continue growing as an actor and will get a lot more love in the upcoming year.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Kubra Khan

Kubra Khan is one of those lucky few actors who got to make a debut with a blockbuster drama Sang-e-Marmar and that is when she secured a place in everyone’s heart. After Sang-e-Marmar, there was no stopping for Kubra Khan because she got to appear in one super-hit and most-watched dramas after another like Khuda Aur Mohabbat, Muqabil, Andaz-e-Sitam and Alif Allah Aur Insaan. In such a short span of time, Kubra Khan proved that she is serious when it comes to this craft because she not only chose the best of the best projects but also different characters which gave her the margin to showcase her talent. In such an early stage of her career, Kubra Khan has garnered a huge fandom and has become one such actor who can sell the drama by just being associated with it. It won’t be an overstatement but it is safe to say that Kubra Khan has emerged as a Star of Pakistani drama industry.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Imran Abbas

Even though Imran Abbas made a name for himself in the industry a long time back and was considered one of the most sought after actors of Pakistan, he took a break and explored the Indian domain. During that time Imran Abbas was unable to do any projects in Pakistan due to which his presence was missed in Pakistani dramas. Ever since his return, Imran Abbas once again made an effort to give back to his fans and compensate for the time that he was missing from Pakistani TV screens and since then, he has given one good drama after another. Though Imran Abbas does a very few projects a year, it goes to show that he believes in quality rather than quantity. His super-hit drama Khuda Aur Mohabbat once again gave him a chance to showcase what a phenomenal and gifted actor he is. Imran Abbas is one of those few actors who draw a massive viewership to any drama because of his huge fan following.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Sajal Ali

Sajal Ali might be young, but her acting prowess matches that of an experienced actor. Sajal Ali is a born and gifted actor, that is why no matter which character she chooses, she gives it such a treatment that it leaves an impact and becomes unforgettable for her viewers. Sajal Ali has been a part of the industry for a long time but recently, she has started exploring different genres which allow her to perform like never before. There was a time when Sajal was being typecast but now she has made it obvious that she will work in limited but quality projects and will accept such characters which will be different from one another. Sajal Ali’s flawless performances as Zubiya and Sassi in Yakeen Ka Safar and O Rangreza have earned her a lot of appreciation from the viewers and there’s no doubt about the fact that she is the most loved actor of 2017.

The Most Loved Actors In 2017

Nauman Ejaz<

Nauman Ejaz is one such actor who guarantees a quality performance no matter which drama he chooses to be a part of. Nauman Ejaz has been in the industry for such a long time but it is awe-inspiring how every single time, he brings something new to the table making it look like it outdid himself this time. It is absolutely amazing that even after giving so many performances, Nauman Ejaz exceeds the expectations of the viewers by performing like never before. Nauman Ejaz does appear in quite a few dramas every year but he chooses such characters which are completely different from one another which show that he has this urge to experiment and perform even after he has been in this field for such a long time, be it a character like Gulistan Khan in Sang e Marmar or that of Peer Habibullah in Dumpukht, a sophisticated businessman in Khan or a strict father in O Rangreza, Nauman Ejaz believes in giving variety to his fans. Nauman Ejaz’s fan following is unprecedented and he is one of the most respected and loved actors of our industry.

The Most Lovable On-Screen Couples

0

What makes an on-screen couple melt your heart and sizzle the screen? In my opinion the success of any on-screen couple is due to two reasons, firstly the chemistry between the pair and secondly the script. The script makes a big difference because even if the chemistry is mind blowing but the dialogues and the story does not click to the audience than the couple’s good chemistry may not prove to be any good. A classic example is that of Amna and Urooj from Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley, the viewers were drooling over the couple because their love was portrayed wonderfully but then when Amna fell in love with the villain, Urooj’s character was reduced to a caricature and things took a spiral turn. Some couples don’t have the perfect ending but their entire journey all through the play is so touching that the viewers love them till the end. Here is a list of couples from recent times who have blown away the audience, they are the on-screen couples who will be remembered forever.

Mansoor and Shehwar

Mansoor and Shehwar’s characters were played impeccably by Meekal Zulfiqar/ Mohammad Qavi and Sanam Baloch/Samina Peerzada. What was about this couple that set it apart from rest of the on-screen couples of recent times? I think that it was that their misunderstandings and problems were very real and the love that ensued later on was very inspiring. To me, Mansoor and Durr-e-Shehwar’s story was the most amazing love story of recent times. I can never forget the last scene of the final episode and the dialogues. Mansoor and Durr-e-Shehwar in young and old age both melted my heart, I will never forget them.

 mlc1mlc3

Asher and Khirad

These two need absolutely no introduction; Hamsafar was a hit only because Asher and Khirad bowled people over by their innocent love. Both the characters were shaped out faultlessly; also the chemistry between these two was unparalleled. It is also a fact that the good looks were a big factor that contributed to the success of this couple. Ever since Hamsafar has ended people have been dying to see this couple together again on-screen. The story of Hamsafar was not outstanding, I think that the only reason it was such a huge success was because of Sarmad Khoosat’s stupendous direction and the chemistry between the leading pair.

 mlc5

Bano and Hassan

Bano and Hassan never had their happy ending but it is also true that Dastaan was not a love story. Bano’s character essentially portrayed ever single person in the subcontinent which had fought hard to acquire a piece of land for the Muslims. Bano’s expectations from this land of pure reflected the hopes of many Muslims at that time. Even though Dastaan was the story of the freedom struggle in the subcontinent but Bano and Hassan were the central characters in the story. Their love was pure and the chemistry between Fawad Khan and Sanam Baloch set the screen on fire. In the end when Bano and Hassan did not get married, many of the viewers were very disappointed. Many people thought that the ending was heartbreaking. Many of the Bano/Hassan fans have also shown their wish to see the same lead pair again too.

 mlc2

Aabi and Haniya

Ah! I can never forget Aabi and Haniya, their romance was a fairytale without a doubt which ended with a grave tragedy. Adeel Hussain and Sarwat Gillani looked very cute together. Aabi was the perfect fairytale hero; he showered Haniya with all the love and care in the world. Some people thought that their love was too cheesy but I thought it was very sweet.

 mlc7

Serena and Kishmish

I must confess that there wasn’t much that I liked about Tanhaiyaan Nayee Silsilay. The only reason I kept on watching the play till the end was Serena’s character and later on the sugary love that blossomed between Kishmish and Serena. The scene in which Kishmish proposes Serena was out of this world and their romance was very cute. Out of all the plays that I have seen recently, Serena and Kishmish are the ones who stand out for me. Syra Yousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari got married when the play was on air. The real life wedding pictures added to the love I felt for this on-screen couple.

This looks like a very pro Hum TV list but that wasn’t intentional at all. Which were the couples in the recent dramas which you found most lovable? Do share.

The Most Impactful Statements By Pakistani Actors In Recent Interviews

Pakistani actors are known for their powerful performances and versatility all around the globe. While giving interviews however, there are very few actors who are not calculated and even if some of these actors are spontaneous, their personalities and stances don’t always impress you. So, while someone can be a great actor on screen, their personalities may or may not impress the viewers when they are their actual self while giving interviews. There are some Pakistani actors who intentionally hold themselves back while giving interviews and then there are those who are not only eloquent but also inspiring. Their personal stories and their outlook on life makes their interviews so special that you can’t help watching them again and again.

I must add that the person who is taking the interview also has a big role to play. Asking relevant and intelligent questions and giving the guests the time and space to say whatever they want to, makes a huge difference. I love watching celebrity interviews, Haroon Rashid and Samina Peerzada are two of my favorite hosts since they genuinely want to know more about their guests and listen to them calmly, giving them the level of comfort they need in order to open up.

Imran Ashraf Redefines The Term “Hero”

Imran Ashraf has worked hard to get where he is today, he always comes across as an extremely grounded and honest person in all of his interviews. His statement regarding the definition of a hero and how he looked at his ‘work’ clearly is the reason why he managed to get this far. Whether you are in showbiz or you are doing any other work, the right approach can do wonders and through his statement Imran Ashraf proved just that. The honesty with which Imran Ashraf accepted the fact that he had been struggling for 10 years and the fame he was enjoying today was nothing short of a dream come true is also rare. Imran Ashraf surely has redefined the term ‘hero’ in more ways than one, not only by giving this statement in the interview he gave to Haroon Rashid but also by actually playing a character which in no way fit into the more accepted definition of a hero and winning everyone over completely.

Imran Abbas’ Take On Life

Everything Imran Abbas said on Samina Peerzada’s show reintroduced me to an actor who I have been watching on screen for years. For the first time, Imran Abbas revealed who he truly was and I must say that every little detail about his life, his losses and the lessons he had learnt over the years completely changed Imran Abbas’ image in my mind. This was the kind of interview which truly was an eye-opener. Although, this entire interview is a must watch but one of my favorite parts was the one in which Imran Abbas talked about the constant struggle he faced in his daily life, what he wanted from life and how he could now see how superfluous this world was. Imran Abbas lost his sister to Cancer two years before he gave this interview and it seems like that tragic loss greatly influenced his thought process. His choice of words and the way he expressed himself was also another reason why this interview left a lasting impression.

Nadia Jamil Exposes Her Vulnerabilities & Strengths

Nadia Jamil is not just a great actress but she is an even greater human being. Anyone who follows her on twitter, would know what kind of an individual she is in real life but her interview with Samina Peerzada was hands down one of the most impactful interviews in recent times. She opened up so comfortably, there is/was never any fakeness about her and I especially loved the honesty with which she shared every little detail about her life. This entire interview is full of statements and stories which sadden and inspire you at the same time. Nadia Jamil is one of those very few celebrities who actually talked more about her own shortcomings and coping mechanisms than about other people or the society. Her positive and practical approach coupled with her strength, makes her not only a survivor but also a fighter.

I am sharing this entire interview here because I feel all of it is worth watching. The genuity with which Nadia Jamil shared all these details was the highlight of her interview. A mature, sensitive and loving soul – Nadia Jamil definitely deserves to be heard.

Hira Mani Choosing To Converse In Urdu

Pakistani celebrities have very often spoken English in interviews even when they were clearly not comfortable doing so. I have personally witnessed stars struggling to speak the language even when they had the choice to speak Urdu. There is also this general impression in our society that people who can converse in English are more polished and educated. Hira Mani is one of those few celebrities who openly admitted that she would much rather give the interview in Urdu because she wasn’t comfortable speaking English. Although, the host Haroon Rashid’s Urdu isn’t impressive and he himself prefers to ask questions in English but Hira very confidently told him that she wouldn’t even have come to his show if she didn’t have the option of answering these questions in Urdu. Choosing to opt for the language of preference and saying all this openly are two different things. I think Hira Mani set a really good precedent there which I hope will be followed by other celebrities who are more eloquent when they speak Urdu. Hira Mani also mentioned that she has no complexes and she learned to accept herself and show who she actually is to the world a long time back. I hope all those celebrities out there who are very often seen speaking wrong English in fake accents in interviews will follow suit.

Zara Noor Abbas Talks About Body Shaming

Zara Noor Abbas’ statements about body shaming and the honesty with which she expressed her true feelings regarding all those comments she got when she was overweight were a breath of fresh air. Hearing Zara Noor Abbas talked so confidently about an issue most actresses shy away from and most importantly her approach towards how the criticism affects the celebrities or people in general was right on point. Her perspective that using ways which were problematic or desperate was wrong. I especially liked what she said about not letting people determine what you choose to wear. The best part was when she admitted that when someone body shames you, it isn’t motivating but it hurts. Admitting that the criticism made her cry and it was difficult to handle it, is something which most celebrities would not admit publicly. This I believe people need to hear, body shaming is bad, it hurts people even those people who appear to be confident and are famous. Zara Noor Abbas’ take on body shaming was my favorite part of this interview.

Which one of these interviews and statements are your favorite? Don’t you just love the honesty with which all these wonderful actors gave these interviews? Do share your thoughts and feel free to add more names.
