The Idea of Hero Is Changing, Ahad Raza Mir

0

Nowadays it seems that all heroes who believed in playing handsome hunk type of characters are changing their idea of “a hero”. This stereotype has been broken by Imran Ashraf currently as he played Bhola and became talk of the town in the midst of the popularity and ratings of Romantic characters.

Screenshot 20190923 160140

Similarly, Ahad Raza Mir said so in his latest interview
The idea of hero is changing and needs to change. Take Imran Ashraf’s role as Bhola. He was the lead actor but not a conventional hero.

Screenshot 20190923 160123

He said this in his interview with Dawn Images.

He said, ” The role I am doing right now isn’t a typical hero either.

He is a troubled guy. We are asking the question. What does severe childhood trauma do to a person”

So now it is clear that Bilal Abbas, Ahad Raza Mir are also joining the league of Faysal Quraishi, Zahid Ahmad, Imran Ashraf who believe in playing complex characters not just doing the good support characters as society is full of complexities that is why people accepted Ahsan khan in Udaari because such people do exist in society and need to be exposed.

The Holy Side of Nimra Khan – Beautiful Pictures

It is a dilemma of our society that we judge people more than we actually try to get an in-depth version of them. It is often being taken that the celebrities who are affiliated with the media industry are probably on the wrong path which is opposite to the Islamic Principles of the country. However, there are a few celebrities who never take the negativities on them and continue to do what they wish to.

Nimra Khan is one of the finest actresses of the Pakistani Drama industry and was recently in limelight for her Nikaah that was held in a private gathering.

Though we know Nimra for her acting, there is another side of Nimra that is much closer to her religion. Nimran often shares her pictures with a religious side. Here are a few of them Have a look! And, yes, let’s not judge the people who might are closer to the Almighty than Us!

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

0

The year 2012 is drawing to a close, so this should be an appropriate time to talk about the dramas that left their mark on our minds and those with which we attached great expectations but they turned out to be very disappointing. The good thing about this year was that there were far more hits than misses. The year 2012 gave us some very entertaining and engaging plays. In fact when I sat down to make a list of these plays; it was almost awe-inspiring to know that Pakistani dramas are regaining their vitality. Here is a list of dramas which in my opinion were big hits and some of them were so impressive that they are sure to stay with us for a very long time. Quite interestingly, many of the mega hit plays of 2012 were based on novels.

1. Hamsafar:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Any drama discussion for the year 2012 should start from Hamsafar. There are many people who believe that there was nothing outstanding about Hamsafar, it was yet another story of make-ups and break-ups. That actually is right to some extent but that does not change the fact that Hamsafar was one of the most watched dramas in the past decade or so. Not to mention how so many of us waited for the new episode to go on air every week. When Hamsafar went on air, Saturday nights really were Hamsafar nights. I remember feeling frustrated when Ashar refused to listen to khirad and the misunderstanding continued for years. Hamsafar was engaging and engrossing, the characterization was spot-on and all the actors were well-suited for their role. Personally, the ending did not appeal to me much and I would have liked to see Ashar beg and plead more before Khirad finally went back to him.

The play Hamsafar aired on Hum TV, it was based on a novel written by Farhat Ishtiaq, directed by Sarmad Khoosat and produced by Momina Duraid.

2. Maat:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Maat started in 2011 but ended in Feburary 2012, so technically this would count as a play for this year. This was another play that kept me glued to my TV screen and I found myself rooting for Aiman just like so many other people out there. Amina Sheikh totally nailed her character as Aimen and no one could have played the greedy, selfish Saman better than Saba Qamar. Honestly speaking, the ending of Maat was much more satisfying than Hamsafar. Unlike hamsafar,In this particular case I really felt like the man (Faisal) also paid for his wrongdoings.

One more thing worth mentioning here is that after the success of Maat, many of the writers started writing plays on the same lines and a never-ending line of dramas portraying sibling rivalry started. The viewers have had enough of this concept now and it is actually very refreshing to see two sisters enjoying a normal healthy relationship in our plays. It is sad when the writers start following a formula and kill the originality of dramas.
Maat aired on Hum TV, It was an adaptation of Umera Ahmed’s play. The play was directed by Amna Nawaz Khan and produced by Momina Duraid.

3. Ek Nazar Meri Taraf:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

I am sure this is another play that was watched by many and barely needs any introduction. Alishba Yusef’s portrayal of Siffat is still fresh in the minds of many and there are so many of us who cried with her. Ek Nazar Meri Taraf was the story of a young widow, who is forced to go in a never-ending period of Iddat by her mother in law. Siffat’s life takes an even tragic turn when she finds out that her dead husband Haider was cheating on her. The writer Zanjabeel Asim Shah tried to raise and answer many questions regarding the position of a widow in our society and showed that a widow has as much of a right to move on with her life as anyone else.

Ek Nazar Meri Taraf was another play that kept me coming back for more and although there were times when I grew weary of watching Siffat cry, at the same time I eagerly waited to see her happy ending.
Ek Nazar Meri Taraf aired on Geo, entertainment. It was written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, directed by Owais Khan and produced by Media City.

4. Tishnagi:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Tishnagi definitely counts as another hit on my charts. It aired on Express Entertainment, a channel that is not watched as widely as many of the mainstream channels but I remember stopping to watch Tishnagi while switching channels and it had me hooked instantly. The refreshing thing about this play was the acting and the direction in particular. Tishnagi was the story of a young girl Manahil, who marries the love of her life Nabeel without the consent of her parents and later she is faced with some very troubled times. What I enjoyed the most about this play was the flow of the story and the characterization. But I must add that as the play drew to an end, it somewhat lost it’s charm and the ending was anything but satisfying. Overall, it made for good entertainment and stood out at least for me.

Tishnagi aired on express Entertainment. It was written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Babar Javed and produced by A & B productions.

5. Durr-e-Shehwar:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Durr-e-Shehwar was not just another play; it was a work of art. Given the fact that majority of our plays deal with marital issues, it really was nothing short of a feat that Durr-e-Shehwar got so much attention even though it was another story of a troubled marriage. What made Durr-e-Shehwar stand out was its balanced approach, the inspiring dialogues (we will never forget the father daughter conversations, the letters) and the message it put forward. All the actors did a commendable job, it was brilliantly scripted and directed to perfection and the most talked about play of recent times. Hum TV definitely deserves credit for giving us plays like Hamsafar and Durr-e-Shehwar.

Durr-e-Shehwar was written by Umera Ahmed, directed by Haissam Hussain and produced jointly by Six Sigma and MD Productions.

6. Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Mata-e-Jaan hai Tu was another play that was followed religiously by many but there were many viewers who felt that Sarwat Gillani and Adeel Hussain were not exactly the best choice for playing Aabi and Haniya and failed to relate to the romance between the two. Personally, it took me sometime to warm up to Haniya and Aabi but once I did it turned out to be quite a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I have to admit though that my interest in the play lessened in the last few episodes because of Aabi’s “mysterious” disappearance. Mata-e-Jaan had a certain freshness about it that cannot be denied. The OST of the play was extremely melodious sung by Bilal Khan but unfortunately it failed to get the attention it deserved.

This play aired on Hum TV. It was directed by Mehreen Jabbar and produced by Momina Duraid.

7: Shehr-e-Zaat:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

This is one of those plays that don’t need any introduction and since it recently ended, it is still fresh in our minds. Shehr-e-Zaat had to be the most thought provoking and the most talked about serials of 2012, just like Durr-e-Shehwar. Some people may disagree with how the overall message was presented on screen but the fact remains that it was a serial that many people found extremely inspiring and left a deep imprint of viewer’s minds

Shehr-e-Zaat aired on Hum TV. It was written by Umera Ahmed, directed by Sarmad Khoosat and produced by Momina Duraid.

8. Thakan:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Thakan was another play of 2012 which got massive viewership. The play revolved around Sadaf; a girl who works day and night to provide for her family but does not get due recognition. Saba Hameed played Sadaf’s mother who because of her insecurities refused to give her daughter the love she deserved. I must say that I lost interest in Thakan somewhere along the way because of the repetitiveness and the fact that Saba Qamar was playing a somewhat similar role in Yahan Pyar Nahi Hai at the same time too.

Thakan aired on ARY digital. It was written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Amin iqbal and produced by A & B productions.

9. Bilqees Kaur:

The Hits and Misses of 2012:

Bilqees Kaur was another extremely gripping play of 2012 with some amazing performances to it’s credit. The characterization was spot on and it was acted out beautifully. Bushra Ansari won our hearts as Bilqees and the story had some very interesting twists and turns. Most of the people were very disappointed with the ending and there were some loop holes in the script as far as the time period etc was concerned, minor details that many people thought did not go in line with an otherwise excellent script.

Bilqees Kaur aired on Hum TV. It was written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Adnan Ahmed and produced by Momina Duraid.

I must add one thing here, that the numbering does not mean one drama was better than the other. There were many other plays in 2012 that were widely followed but I do not think they were mega hits. I followed some of them and did not follow others. But here is a list of those plays and I will leave it for you people to decide whether they were hits or not and also share with us how you felt about these dramas.

Kafir
Yahan Pyaar Nahi hai
Meri Ladli
Behkawa
Jahez
Mere Qatil mere Dildar
Zard Mausam
Annie Ki Aye Gi Baraat
Kuch Pyaar ka Pagalpan

Now for the dramas which I thought were complete disappointments and need to be mentioned in particular because I for one had great expectations from these plays.

1. Mere Dard ko Jo Zuban Miley:

Yes this play deserves to be on top of the list because I had faith in this play right till the end but MDKJZM turned out to be a lost cause. It was play with so much potential, we had some loveable characters played brilliantly by some very talented actors and the direction was good too but the story went completely haywire and it turned out to be the biggest miss of the year!

2. Mera Saeein 2:

The viewers had enormous expectations from this sequel since the prequel was a big hit. But unfortunately the sequel had nothing new to offer.

3. Sanjha:

Sanjha was another play which could have been the next big thing, the reason being that the storyline was completely different and it introduced some great newcomers. Sanjha could have been very effective in raising awareness about human trafficking but the story completely lost it’s focus after the first few episodes and the play failed to deliver.

4. Maseeha:

Maseeha was definitely a huge miss. A weak storyline, flawed direction and characters that left you perplexed made Maseeha one of the worst plays that aired on Hum Tv in 2012.

5. Mujhe Roothne Na Dena:

The primary reason I looked forward to this show was that I wanted to see Komal Rizvi act and the first few episodes did keep me glued. But, gradually I completely lost interest and I honestly felt that this was another play which could potentially be one of the good plays. It touched some important issues like that of children who are abused at a young age and the way girls are exploited in our society but Komal Rizvi, who should have been the star of the show left me with the feeling that she should just stick to singing. The play took one ugly turn after another and turned out to be a disaster.

The idea of writing this piece was that we should be able to talk about the plays that went on air in 2012. I hope this article will help you take a trip down the memory lane and give rise to an interesting discussion.

The Haunting of Hill House is an American supernatural horror drama television series which is created and directed by Mike Flanagan and produced by Amblin Television and Paramount Television, for Netflix and it is the first television series in The Haunting anthology series. The series is based on the novel by Shirley Jackson in 1959. Despite the first impression of the show that it would simply scare you, The Haunting of Hill House slowly turns into a spellbinding masterpiece full of sorrow and longing. With some mesmerizing acting in particular from Carla Gugino as the mother of the Crain family, the series shows the tragic events played out in Hill House around 20 years prior and the stain they left behind. Every episode oozes emotion, creating a bunch of characters so frail and fickle you can see them in yourself.

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Lets take an overview of the journey which lead a team ranked 8th in the ICC rankings to the cup of Champions Trophy 2017. It all started when Pakistan played its first match against India and as you all know we lost. Then started the jokes the universal mauka mauka ones.

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

But the wind changed the course and Pakistan emerged as a winner of the tournament. So let us live some moments again and see how the people from across the border were feeling at those times. First and foremost the man of the match Fakhar Zaman should be acknowledged here. Being just a newcomer Fakhar made a splendid score of 114 runs and helped Pakistan reach the goal. He really woke Altaf Bhai inside us with his performance:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Moreover Azhar Ali and Hafeez surprised the nation and the rivals equally with their performances. Who would have thought these players will turn the whole world upside down. Even Virat Kohli wasn’t prepared for this!

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Questions were asked:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

The surprise was too big to handle. Thank Almighty Lala came to the rescue:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

With the discovery of truth started a round of conspiracy:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

What they didn’t know was the promise which compelled Pakistan to wash them brutally:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

And Pakistanis never take Kashmir non-seriously!

The mood was heated and ground felt like LOC!

The glorious victory and fatherly duties! The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Yes! Fakhar was in navy in case you are wondering!

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

When all was done and still there were no chances of winning, supporters of the opponent team started retreating:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

And the world saw who the REAL PAPA is:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Papa still forgave the unobedient child because its FATHER’S DAY:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Meanwhile old chaps were really enjoying the scene:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

And awaam were busy in roasting as this was their responsibility:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

Bacha also started becoming obedient again:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

People were worried about their neighbours:

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

All and all Papa ne bataya ke woh papa kyun hain and the glory of the champions was seen across the globe. PAKISTAN ZINDABAAD!

The glorious victory and fatherly duties!

The Ghazi Attack: Bollywood Film Distorts The History Yet Again

If you thought Bollywood has exhausted the theme of Pakistan-India wars, think again because The Ghazi Attack which released recently is all about Indo-Pak underwater war. It is India’s first war at sea film based on their perspective of the war which happened in 1971 in Indian waters.

Before i begin, i would like to say that i have many Indian friends and every time we discuss about the history of neighbouring countries, it always gets messed up since the history they know is really different from what we ‘Pakistani’s’ know. This clearly states that both countries have different perspectives of the history be it partition or any other war, the facts always contradict.

When it comes to stories ‘inspired’ by history, filmmakers actually enter a dangerous territory by the fact that cinema commands a much larger audience than textual history. They are expected to make something which delivers a story closest to the truth, But Bollywood has done distortions of history previously too (take Mohenjo Daro as example).

A post shared by Carnival Cinemas (@carnivalcine) on

Coming back to ‘The Ghazi Attack’, the film is about Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi, which was one of the fastest submarines at the time of the war. As much as it is going to be patriotic for the Indian’s, the truth was never cleared. The film shows Indian navy’s struggle to destroy their rivals along with the submarine called “Ghazi’.

The Ghazi Attack opens up in 1971, showing how West Pakistan mistreated East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Followed by Indian naval forces going for a classified search mission to check the presence of Pakistani forces in their waters and they do manage to track Pakistan’s submarine ‘Ghazi’. According to the film, Pakistan attacks Indian submarine a multiple times but even after many attacks Pakistan wasn’t able to destroy Indian submarine. And at the end the Indian forces attack Ghazi and manage to destroy it with a single torpedo.

There are disputed versions of sinking of Ghazi. To date, there is no clear confirmation to how she sank. The submarine sank under circumstances which aren’t clear. There’s a Pakistani version and an Indian version which are totally opposite.

Indian version states that Indian Navy destroyed Ghazi using depth charges fired by INS Rajput.

And according to Pakistan Navy’s investigation, there were two probable reasons connecting to this mishap:

1) Magnetic Exploder/Hydrogen explosion
2) Detonation of a mine inside the submarine

The contradictory statements from within the Indian naval force itself maintains that Ghazi sank under mysterious circumstances. Official statements from Indian navy officers actually claim that the investigations carried by their own team reveal that there had been internal explosions inside the submarine and there’s a certain amount of possibility of Ghazi’s sinking due to internal explosion.

The truth still actually lies within Indian waters and there is no report of how Ghazi actually sank. However, the film implies that Ghazi was destroyed by Indian army. It came with a huge disclaimer welcoming other perspectives of the story but somehow managed to show Pakistan as an evil and enemy country in every minute of the film.

Although, people from both the countries try to join hands with each other through sports and arts but extremist factions present in all the fields don’t want the countries to have a peaceful start. Indian film industry in last six decades has made countless anti-Pakistan films and these films do nothing but force the audience to consider the neighbours as the enemies. I have always been a peace lover and i believe films like this create rift between already disputed neighbours.

A post shared by IFFI Goa (@iffigoa) on

Bollywood has often touched upon the topic of Indo-Pak wars in several of their movies which mainly focus on glorifying the Indian side and, it is happening this time again, where Pakistan is referred as the enemy in the whole movie and loses at the end. And guess what? the Pakistani’s are actually shown as the stereotypical evil people. The filmmakers are leaving no stone unturned to cash out the conflicts between Pakistan and India. It is the high time when both the countries should move on and look forward to a better future.

What impact will these kinds of films leave on the audiences and where will this take the status of the already tense relationship between India and Pakistan? Do share your thoughts.

The Flop Shows Of This Season

0

A show needs to have a few special ingredients to impress the viewers and make a place in their hearts. The first important ingredient is the cast; a good cast always creates interest in the viewers. The second most important thing is the story, followed by the direction. Hits and flops go hand in hand; where a few shows may become hits, the others might not be able to strike a cord with the audiences.

Here is a list of shows that can be considered as flop shows of this season because they lack the ingredients to impress the viewers:

kaala jadu 2

Kaala Jaadu 2:

If the first season was torture, the second season was worse. It is really hard to stomach the concept of these kinds of shows and this show has already been stretched to limit. The script written by Rukhsana Nigar may not be so strong but she has written Wasim Abbas’s character very well, as it is very close to reality. The show may not be worth watching but Waseem Abbas’s flawless acting definitely is. Waseem Abbas different role shows his versatility and it is the only plus point in this show.

dmkh

Dil Mohalay Ki Haveli:

I have never been able to understand the concept of this show. Samina Ahmed plays the role of a woman who is obsessed with culture and tradition especially when it comes to food. The writer Amna Mufti tried to come up with a new concept but her attempt failed to impress the audiences. The only highlight of this show is Sami Khan, who has finally showed some versatility as he is no longer playing the character of a ‘guy who never gets the girl’. I was personally fed up of seeing him in the same kind of roles in every show but his unique character in this show is refreshing to watch.

meri dulari

Meri Dulari:

The reason why Meri Dulari is a flop is because of its script which has nothing new to offer and its direction which could have been way better. This show is Yumna Zaidi’s best work so far as she has managed to done justice to her role. I have always found her a very weak actor who needed to brush up on her acting skills and slowly and gradually, she is improving. Sana Askari and Sami Khan’s same monotonous roles have nothing new to offer to the audiences. Saba Hameed has performed exceptionally in her role as the strict mother in law. The show, however, failed to connect with the audiences because of many essential ingredients missing.

jiya na jaye

Jiya Na Jaye:

The cast of this show has performed exceptionally and the script and direction both are also satisfactory. The reason why it failed to click with the audiences is because there is still an ingredient which is missing in the show. There was just no ‘wow’ factor in it which would woo the audiences. Imran Aslam has done full justice to his negative character, Fatima Effendi just keeps on getting better and Adeel Hussain’s acting was also up to the mark. In the beginning, the story had its charm but now it is just dragging and it is about time they end this show.

shab e

Shab-e-Aarzoo Ka Aalam:

This is another show which failed to make a place in the audiences’ heart. The story revolves around a couple madly in love who are driven apart by circumstances. Mohib Mirza and Armeena Rana Khan have superb chemistry and both have outdone themselves but the cast is not enough to make a show hit. The pace of this show is very slow and the story is not so impressive either.

dehleez

Dehleez:

Dehleez and Parchaiyaan started almost together and where Parchaiyaan became a huge hit, Dehleez was not able to gather enough audiences. Rubina Ashraf has performed brilliantly in both the shows and proved how versatile she can be. Dehleez was not half bad in the beginning but now after 83 episodes, I really think the time has come for this show to end!

meenu ka sasural

Meenu Ka Susral:

Frankly, I have never seen more than a scene or two of this show and that too while changing channels. The show never managed to capture my interest. The cast is not impressive and the story has nothing that we haven’t seen before in other shows.

The First Song Of Coke Studio 10 “ALLAHU AKBAR” Released

After much wait and ado, Coke Studio Season 10 has finally landed into the screens with a great thud. The first song of the season “Allahu Akbar” has been released. The song has been sung by Shafqat Amanat and Ahmed Jahanzeb. The lyrics, composition and music direction all are the courtesy of Shuja Haider.

Here is the song:

After its experiment with National Anthem, Coke Studio received a lot of rebuke for playing with something that didn’t need their modification. But with Allahu Akbar, the tides have turned for the season. People are generally giving good comments about the music and composition, especially the singing duo.

It seems that Coke Studio has kicked off on a good note. But, how many hits and misses come that remains to be seen.

The First Poster Of “Bin Roye” Is Out

0

Bin Roye Ansoo is a novel written by the famous writer Farhat Ishtiaq. The news that this novel will be given the shape of a drama serial came out soon after Hamsafar went off air. Fans of Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan were ecstatic to hear the news that this lovable on-screen couple will be seen together in Bin Roye Ansoo but after a while the news came that Fawad Khan had been replaced by Hamayun Saeed. Some of the fans were disappointed but many people who have read the novel thought that Hamayun Saeed suited the character more because of the difference of age between the leading couple.

It has been years that fans have been waiting for the first look of Bin Royee Ansoo which is being shown as a film now and is titled “Bin Roye” only, the word “Ansoo” has been removed from the title. The film is produced by MD Productions and it has been directed by Haissam Hussain.

Untitled

Apart from Mahira and Hamayun, the leading cast will consist of Armeena Rana Khan and Zeba Bakhtiar. The producers have not shown much relating to the film yet except this one poster. Now the question is that whether Bin Roye will only be made as a film or there is a drama serial in the offering too?

Lux pays tribute to the thriving TV industry by featuring actors Mehwish Hayat and Fahad Mustafa as part of its calendar shoot. The actors pose in a world of floral splendour, surrounded by a riot of flowers, to bring alive the fragrant identity of the brand.

Along with the TV fraternity, Lux also pays homage to the fashion industry that has helped the brand create its image. Models Rabia Butt and Emaad Irfani also pose for the calendar, but in a more cosmopolitan setting. Emaad Irfani has previously been seen in the Lux TV commercial and Lux decided to approach him again for its calendar shoot. “Being featured in a Lux campaign for the second time, I can officially call myself the Lux boy. Working for Lux means that you are one of the most prominent faces in Pakistan.” says Irfani.

The breathtaking dresses and suits are designed by the established designer Kamiar Rokni who designed it exclusively for the calendar shoot. All the designer wear was made keeping in mind its setting and looked a class apart!

“The basic point of the calendar is to add a touch of glamour to life. For this calendar, we used stars from both TV and the fashion industry as we believe these are two of the biggest industries which cannot be ignored,” says Enshe, Brand Manager Lux. “The fragrance value of Lux has been visualized through these pictures.”

Well, after the kitchen curfew, the teams started fighting with each other, Mareeha Safdar and Humaira Ashghar started fighting and they also shouted on each other. Humaira said Mareeha didn’t cook in time and that’s why they got late, Mareeha didn’t admit her mistake. To this, Maira scolded them and said that you guys should keep everyone at alarm when it comes to completing house chores in time. They were all angrily shouting at each other. It was Tamasha’s first big fight which involved grouping. Have a look at videos.

The Fine Line Between Awareness And Immorality!

In this modern era of technology, a layman has access to every sort of required information since the world became a global village a long time ago and we now have a quick access to every happening around the globe. The entertainment purpose of media is somehow most admirable aspect since it provides you with diversity of programs and it’s totally up to us now that which program and channel we opt for when it comes to ‘Television’. There will be hardly any house where people have no access to TV since it has now become a part of our daily lives. Besides having an entertainment purpose, it is also serving as a mode of awareness and producers are making serious efforts to convey important messages and portraying social hardships along with their solutions. But in this process, we have forgotten that it’s a matter of huge responsibility and any negligence in it will cause drastic effects not only on young generation but the mature people will also fall a prey to it since the content shown settles down in our subconscious and it’ll be visible when the time comes. While conveying social issues and the topics of great sensitivity, the makers should keep some aspects in mind and the most important of it is not to ‘sensationalize’ and ‘glamorize’ anything since the purpose is to eliminate the disease and not to spread it further. We often see people indulged in the debate of ‘whether to show it or not’? But it has always been about ‘How to show it’ because the difference lies there. The makers should keep this thing in mind that family entertainment has some kind of limitations and people don’t turn on the TV to get uncomfortable while watching it with rest of the family. Following are the few aspects that should be taken care of before touching the topics of sensitivity and awareness:

Appropriate Dialogues:

When you opt for something controversial, you do have understanding of its pros and cons and the best time to eliminate the cons is the time when the dialogues are penned down. People of this age are intelligent enough to grab what the writer is trying to convey and there is no need to go overboard. The writers should leave something for our imagination and there is absolutely no need to show every conversation. Andaz e Sitam is a recent play which went on-air and 5 or 6 episodes have passed and I came across such conversations which I think no one would prefer to watch with his family. I couldn’t grab the purpose behind writing that lame and stupid conversation when we could easily figure out what it was all about without this conversation shown & when we try to speak against it they say it’s happening around us. Who’s denying its happening but can’t they demonstrate it in a more appropriate way? The writers must know how to write dialogues of educational value without letting them go cheesy or unethical!

The Fine Line Between Awareness And Immorality!

Unnecessary Physical Contact:

This ingredient is the least required thing when it comes to conveying social message but if you want to glamorize the scene and sensationalize the entire scenario, nothing will work better than this! We have innumerable examples where makers have opted for this thing and the purpose was surely not to ‘Raise Awareness’ but to raise TRP’s. Let’s suppose if the message to be conveyed requires this aspect to be covered, still there is no need to add the romantic element in it since it kills the whole purpose. People actually start rooting for such things to happen instead of thinking it as an evil which should be eliminated. A recent example is ‘Sangat’ and I find no need to elaborate what they showed because we all already know. A victim herself going to a molester for guidance? I just want to know what purpose it served? What kind of message it was?

Giving Solution to a Problem:

Taking any problem and demonstrating it will solve nothing but will just give you a head ache. We all have enough problems of our own & nobody wants to be turned into a depressed soul but many of us do consider content which not only raises issues while keeping them light and not going dark & depressing all the time but also provides best possible solutions. It’s just like re-writing the question in exams won’t earn you marks but giving an answer will. Some problems are understood and almost everyone knows that they exist. How to cope up with such issues & how to survive through them should be highlighted more than the problem itself. The makers should focus more on the elimination aspect without letting the things go dark & depressing altogether.

The Choice of Subject:

Some issues are seriously not issues but they are actually self-created. The subject should be easy to relate and should belong to the society we live in. Highlighting the problems which actually don’t exist is promoting them & inviting a group of people to experience them. Recently in KGBH series we saw two women in a relationship. This was absolutely rubbish to say the least! Like what made the writer think that dealing with such an issue in the most absurd way possible will raise awareness? Let’s suppose this evil prevails in our society, although I am sure it doesn’t, still showing it on TV will be the worst decision as it doesn’t hold any entertainment value neither any educational value! And it would be a lot better if it would have been shown in a negative light but it was handled so lightly and director’s easy going approach clearly told us how seriously he took this sensitive issue!

Educational Value:

The content should at least have some educational value. The fruitfulness of good deeds and the fate wrong do-er meets at the end should be loud and clear so that viewers can extract some lesson and the people indulged in such activities in real can ponder over what they are doing! Maybe such things don’t happen in real but showing the absolute reality is not necessary at times because making a whole drama and then leaving the actual message vague and unclear is not what we all want. Dramas like ‘Udaari’ are a perfect example of dealing with such issues intelligently. There we saw a long struggle of a victim but that ended up on a hope. Raising ‘Hope’ should be the purpose instead of shattering the left over hopes in the real victims. The ‘survivors’ should be the prime focus.

The Fine Line Between Awareness And Immorality!

The ‘Forced’ Damsel in Distress:

The miseries should be real and not forced. Most of the times, we want to hit the protagonist with a brick rather than feeling for her. Who on Earth doesn’t break silence and takes everything like nothing is happening? Forced marriages on gun point are a latest trend and as far as I remember ‘Gul e Rana’ is the trend setter and now same is happening in Andaz e Sitam. I still remember how I wanted to punch Gul e Rana right on her face when she remained quiet and didn’t tell her family what Adeel did to her. There should have been at least one good reason behind being Allah miyan ki Gaye while she was a Dakoo Rani otherwise. So they are promoting a new trend i.e, Shadi on Gun point. This is not a social issue whatsoever and the type of woman empowerment they were trying to show was killed and overshadowed at the exact moment when Gul e Rana chose to remain silent and didn’t take any legal action.

The Fine Line Between Awareness And Immorality!

So these were the few aspects which I think should be taken into consideration while dealing with sensitive issues so that they can serve the purpose they are made for otherwise they will have more harms than benefits.

The Final Trailer For Project Ghazi Is Here

0

Project Ghazi is a film that shook the cinegoers back in 2017 when the teasers first came out. The film looked something that we have not witnessed in Pakistani cinemas. It was the first superhuman movie created in Pakistan. The film, however, got postponed on the night of the premiere since the dubbing was not done and the film was basically incomplete in the technical department.

The film has a huge cast with names as Humayun Saeed, Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui and Syra Shehroze in the lead roles while Adnan Jaffar is playing the villain Kattan in the film. After such a huge delay, Project Ghazi is all set to hit the theatres this March. The film will be releasing o the 22nd of March. The final trailer has dropped and whatever difficulties the film has gone through, it looks good. Check it out:

We hope the film is not marred by technical difficulties and the audiences experience the original Project Ghazi which was meant to release then!

The Filminess in Dramas Nowadays!

0

What I have noticed nowadays is that many of our dramas have started adopting the filmi tarka in their stories. For a long time now, our shows have been more focused on social issues prevailing in the society, and the only filmy drama (more like an Indian drama to be precise) that was seen on air was ‘Yeh Zindagi Hai’ (which has the highest ratings for the longest time now!) Now we can see that other production houses are also following the lead, and introducing the filminess in their stories to attract viewers.

As viewers, we all like a bit of filminess in the stories which is a nice change from the reality based shows that also tend to get a bit depressing at times.

Here is a list of shows that are on air nowadays and have a touch of filminess to make them more attractive for the viewers:

khoya khoya chand

Khoya Khoya Chaand:

Khoya Khoya Chaand stars Ahsan Khan, Maya Ali and Sohai Ali Abro as the leads. The promos of this show itself had a filmy touch to it as the leads were showing dancing and singing in it. Even the title track would have been more suitable for a movie; especially the video with had the leads running around, dupattas flying, and flowers everywhere! Faheem Burney always likes to add a bit of spiciness seen in films in the shows he directs. Even the story would have been more appropriate for a movie; the male lead getting married to the sister of the girl he loved. Cliched, right? Not something we have not heard before, but definitely something that would keep the viewers hooked.

humrahi

Mere Humrahi:

Mere Humrahi is another show with the filmy factor in it. The promo featured leads in the rain and it resembled a scene more appropriate for a SRK movie! But in truth, this is what attracted me to the show in the first place. It stars Fahad Mustafa, Shehzad sheikh and Soniya Hussain as the leads. The promos seemed different from the usual ones that we see on Pakistani Television nowadays, and I always prefer to watch shows with a refreshing concept. When the promos were so filmy, then how can the story not have a touch of filminess! Haaniyah and Ahad are in love and they decide to get married, until Ahad gets cold feet and ditches Haaniyah one day before the marriage. Ahmed, who happens to be Ahad’s brother, takes his place and gets married to Haaniyah. How convenient right?

yeh shaadi nahi ho sakti

Yeh Shaadi Nahi Hosakti:

Yeh Shaadi Nahi Hosakhti’s promo featured a whole dance sequence which had the whole cast in it! When I saw the promos the first thought that came to my mind was of the Baraat series. Yeh Shaadi Nahi Hosakhti’s concept is also somewhat similar to it as it revolves around marriage, and also has a stellar cast which includes names like Mohib Mirza, Urwa Hocane, Qazi Wajid, Badar Khalil, Waseem Abbas, Saba Hameed and many more popular names. This show revolves around the leads Sikander and Alishba who are desperately in love, and the only obstacle in their lives is their families who can barely stand each other’s presence. Now they both have set out to unite the two families, and make their marriage happens at all cost! This sitcom might have some over the top characters and a bit of overacting, but it is definitely a show to watch if you are in mood for a light hearted show!

rishtay

Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se:

This show has Sohai Ali Abro, Yumna Zaidi, and Jahanzeb Khan as the main leads. ‘Another drama on sister rivalry, can’t they come up with new concepts?’ This is what came to my mind when I watched the show’s promos. I knew from the beginning that the show would feature a clash between the two sisters, but the circumstances that lead to this was quite shocking. Gaiti and Arsal are about to get married but due to Gaiti’s absence during the Nikah, her sister Kiran secretly takes her place. This is the most absurd and unbelievable twist that I have ever seen! A twist that would have been more appropriate for an Indian drama or movie!

aasmanon

Aasmanon Pay Likha:

Aasmanon Pay Likha recently went on air and reached the first spot in the ratings with its very first episode. Why? The main reason was the attractive promos; the scenes in the promos had the filmy tadka, and the sizzling chemistry between the leads was just like a cherry on top. The male lead (Sheheryar Munawar) goes to the wedding of his employee’s daughter (Sajjal Ali), and ends up getting married to the girl himself. The circumstances in which the wedding occurred seemed quite illogical, but these loopholes can be overlooked when there is potential in the show. Its filminess is definitely its USP!

I personally do not mind a bit of filminess in shows because it is refreshing to watch shows with concepts that are different from what we usually see in dramas. But an overdose of filminess would definitely not be appreciated!

The Fault In Our Dialogues!

0

We, simply being viewers, can’t help but notice that there some fixed, ghissay pittay dialogues to suit some particular situations in our plays. And no matter how lame or difficult to relate to these dialogues are, you are bound to come across them in many different plays.

So here are some of the most oft-repeated dialogues that I find very stupid;

”________________ (fill the blank with the hero’s name) sirf mera hai!”

Anddd this obsession-with-the-guy-who-couldn’t-care-less-about-you is getting has to come to an end! Alright, here’s a girl and she has this super-cute cousin/childhood friend and well, you don’t have to be a genius to figure out that she is in love! It turns out that the guy has eyes for someone else and it’s frustrating that this is the 21st century where there are 101 ways to make your life worth living but this over desperate and deranged girl dedicates the rest of her life to ruining the life of the poor soul whose phooti qismat lies in the fact that that she happens to be the love interest of this male cousin. I think this trend started from Humsafar and I guess the success of Humsafar served as an inspiration.
Many a time the guy doesn’t even give a wrong signal but it’s actually saddening to see educated and confident young girls stooping low to ‘win’ these guys who aren’t worth fighting for! I don’t mean to sound insensitive but if a guy doesn’t like you so what? It’s not exactly the end of the world. Please girls, get a life!!

Coming to this dialogue, it’s not Samsung Galaxy that you’re claiming it to be yours; we are talking about a guy who is alive and kicking and he has his own free will so tell me WHY would you want to spend your life with a guy who is just not that into you??

hmd coll

Bus, uss larki nay humaray larkay ko apnay jaal mein phasalia!”

UFF This dialogue just drives me crazy because I don’t get why are writers (most of them happen to be women too) are hell-bent on showing that only the ‘woman’ in question is solely responsible for ‘phansing’ the man because apparently, this oh so innocent man lacks the ability to tell right from wrong! How is it so easy for him to be swayed by this woman’s charm? Was this guy, by any chance, a preschooler? Was he drugged? Was he mentally unstable? Did this girl point a gun at him? No, No, and No again! Then, tell me how come it’s only the woman who must be blamed?

Mein bohatttt khush hoon. Sab mera bohatt khayal rakhtay hain!” (Reply to ‘Beta, tum khush tou hona?)

And our heroines always end up with shark-like in-laws so when our newly married heroine pays her family a visit, it’s only natural that her face screams, ‘I am DEPRESSED, SUPPRESSED, OPPRESSED’. Her parents greet her with this, ‘innocent’, lingering question,’’beta, tum khush tou hona?’’ The most frustrating part is that our too-good-to-be-true heroine (even though she’s surrounded by psychopathic in-laws who emotionally, mentally, physically abuse her) simply hides her worries by saying, ‘’mein bohatt khush hoon aur sab mera bohatt khayal rakhtay hain’’ (I may look sullen but who cares? Now that you guys mention it, I am actually jumping with joy!) And lo and behold! Her parents, quite conveniently, accept her lies without further question because even though it’s obvious that their daughter’s smile is forced, it’s perfectly okay- these ‘parents’ can’t tell a false/forced smile from a genuine one!

Aray rehnay dain ammi, woh dil ki buri nahe hai, bus zara bewaqoof/nasamjh hai.”

Let’s just say that our writers really need to figure out the difference between people who are ‘pious’ and those who are ‘dimwitted’! In every sister-rivalry play, the evil sis/cousin is defended by her pious sister because apparently, if you’re rude, akharbaaz and materialistic beyond belief, just chill because you are not bad at heart- you are simply immature! The holier than thou heroine (she is the actual bewaqoof here) trusts her sister blindly and the day her sister dearest snatches her fiancé/husband, it FINALLY dawns on her: nahe yaar, my sister was waqai dil ki buri! *weeps*

sis

Aray bechari sharma gayi!”

Here’s the thing: our heroine is in love with someone else so whenever some other suitors are mentioned in front of the girl, she leaves the room in disgust and you don’t have to be a psychic to figure out from her expressions that sharmana isn’t even a part of it because she is simply NOT happy with the proposal but as intelligent as her parents are, they feel kay like any mashriqi girl, un ki beti sharma gayi!

But yes, this dialogue is used in different contexts in different plays so I find it stupid only when the ones saying it actually mean it even when it’s obvious that the heroine walked out in anger.

Tumharay paas sochnay kay liye kal tak ka time hai!”

I think we all have seen demanding, dictator-like parents BUT when it comes to agreeing to a proposal, even the very strict parents give their children ample of time to think things through before saying ‘yes’ to a proposal but in our plays, this 24-hour ultimatum is issued by the parents to the protagonist to say ‘yes’ to a proposal OR to prepare yourself to be disowned! Oh and this proposal in question is mostly put forward by the protagonist’s khala/mamu/chacha/phupo so this explains why the parents are so desperate. I for one feel that such dialogues present an exaggerated and over-strict image of Pakistani parents in general and I would love to see some open minded, 21st century kay parents, please!

Tum nay dia hi kia hai mujhe, siwaye ______ betion kay?”(fill the blank with the number of betiyaan; they may be as many as 7).

A gender-discrimination play without this dialogue? NO WAY! I have lost count of all the gender-discrimination plays I have watched, I have lost count of all the times I came across this dialogue AND I have lost count of the number of times I have seen Waseem Abbas delivering these dialogues. As much as the issue of gender discrimination persists in our society, I think our writers should give this topic a rest for a while- the reason being that this topic has been done to death because of which our writers have somehow lost the art to present this theme in a creative way, under a different light. There are some fixed dialogues and these dialogues are repeated over and over again and that’s exactly why I tend to avoid such plays. Haan, Main Bushra was an exception because the dialogues were penned amazingly well.

gd

What do you think of the list? If you have some dialogues in your mind, please share your thoughts with us!
