Momina Iqbal is a renowned Pakistani television actress who recently made headlines after she exposed PML-N MPA Muhammad Saqib Chaddar for allegedly harassing her right before her wedding. The actress filed multiple online complaints and also shared a social media post, after which the NCCIA police took prompt action, and the matter is expected to be resolved soon. Momina Iqbal’s case was being handled by her sister, lawyer Ramsha Iqbal.
Now, MPA Muhammad Saqib Chaddar’s side of the story has been shared by his lawyer, Mian Ashfaq, while talking to the press.
In his press talk, Mian Ashfaq said, “My client Muhammad Saqib Chaddar met the complainant in 2020, and they had a close relationship to the extent that they were about to get married. During that time, he got to know multiple realities about the complainant, Miss Momina, which we will share in the future, as this is not a routine case that we usually see involving women. It is not just a complaint, but they were in a proper one-on-one relationship unlike an online friendship. She has taken notorious, massive social and financial benefits from my client and has been receiving these undue benefits for the last five years. So, it is not a regular case, and we will share all the details in the future. The lady is respectable for us, but she is misusing her power. Muhammad Saqib Chaddar’s wife was also involved in the case and has been accused by Momina Iqbal. She will also appear before the court.”
He further added, “The complainant has also taken unlimited and unending financial benefits from my client. Ask her what she was giving him in return for receiving crores from my client. This matter should be deeply scrutinized on a massive level. There should be end-to-end investigations, and all the events should be thoroughly investigated because he is a political man and has both enemies and friends.”

Fereeha shared that the victim was in anguish and wanted this drama to stop. She is bewildered that how can the makers of Hadsa get the whole story as her identity never came out in the media.
The victim wants this drama to stop airing and wants to know how producers can go ahead and make a drama on her life without even asking for permission. She also shared the pain she is going through. She cannot move on, she cannot dress up, she cannot smile as she gets judged for everything. The victim said that the makers want her to die as only death is left for her after all her wounds are fresh again and how can someone fall so much for ratings.

Last week, Geo television’s controversial drama serial Hadsa got banned. Well, the drama made the headlines for portraying the real-life story of a survivor. The drama was hurting the sentiments of the motorway incident survivor. The main lead of the drama was played by Hadiqa Kiani. Hadsa is written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and it is produced by Shazia Wajahat and Wajahat Rauf.
Lately, Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Pansota, who is the lawyer of motorway incident survivor, spoke to the media for the first time. He shared the survivor’s take on Hadsa details. Ahmad Pansota said, “Firstly, the survivor felt that the story is an exact copy of what happened to her and the debate was triggered after her statement. She first contacted the ace journalist Fareeha Idrees after which I talked to her. She told me that she was going through the same pain after watching the drama. Also, I asked her, ‘what If they make it into a drama for an awareness purpose?’, but the survivor didn’t agree to this narrative and said that the drama is a hundred percent copy of what happened to her. She said that all the details used in the drama are exactly the same, even the names of her kids’ friends are more or less the same. She said that the most private details about her life were also shown in the drama and I believe it was purposely made”.
Ahmad Pansota further added, “The survivor reported that whenever she saw this drama, she experienced the same pain and the trauma”.
Barrister Pansota said, “Television channels are not allowed to produce reenactments by using hundred percent exact details of any incident that too without the consent of the survivors, and in this case, they didn’t even reach out for permission. It should not be aired, the survivor doesn’t want it to air”. We have multiple other legal procedures to be followed, if the drama will not be banned. The survivor is saying that people are also calling her and asking, ‘if this is her story’. Three types of women usually attend these parties: hostel girls, host ladies, and women who become partners of single men. Whatever I am telling you is based on facts and figures — the tickets for these parties are sold for Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000. Increase of these activities, such as use of drugs, dance parties, is becoming normal in our society which is a wake up call for all of us. Ohkay so, there used to be a time when our dramas were filled with amazing female characters but the most important character that almost everyone looked up-to was that of a mother because one way or the other, a mother had a very important role to play in the plot. Unfortunately, we experienced how writers creativity (coughing in sarcasm) took a toll on all the relations that are sacred to us but recently, they have literally butchered the concept of love, companionship, comfort & intuition that a mother is made of by showing us botched up mothers in our dramas & frankly speaking, no one understands these sort of mothers & no one can relate to them, why…because no one has seen such mothers & the likes of them in their real lives.
We have come across a lot of interviews where the writers believe they are showing us the “real picture” of what happens in our society but I would do the honors of bursting the bubble they live in that no matter how wrong a woman must be for someone else, when it comes to her children, she is always going to be an embodiment of selflessness, unlimited love, understanding & friendship because mothers are blessed with an intuition that never allows them to not notice the things their kids are going through. I am actually disgusted at how the writers have started using mothers as fillers who are free of everything, starting from sensibility to courtesy when it comes to their own children.
It is actually a sad state of affairs for our dramas that almost all the relations, well not almost, in fact all the relations have been ruined by the writers because they want to sensationalize & dramatize their stories by showing us extreme & most highly unlikely scenarios, but what I fail to understand is, what good are they achieving out of ruining a mother son or mother daughter equation in our dramas? It looks like the mother’s character is something that the writers do not pay attention to & when they are done with the whole story, they add the mother’s character as an after-thought, to complete the family picture because other than that, there’s no role that a mother plays in her children’s life & she is only used as a source to let everyone know how their hero & heroine made to this world because after that, her duty is done & she is free from all the obligations that a mother has towards her children.
It is quite amusing yet alarming to see them showing how the mothers are so oblivious of what their children are going through. I miss seeing such mothers who can sense the mental & emotional state of their kids just by having a look at them. It is actually quite contradictory that they start off at a point where they show that a mother is the most courteous & considerate human being that has walked on the face of the Earth, but it lasts till her kid; daughter especially lands into a trouble because that’s when the courtesy & consideration escapes from the roshan daan of the bathroom & mother takes a new janam & she is reincarnated as someone who is free of any such motherly instincts & we get to see a new avatar of mother who is worried about everyone else around her, except her own daughter.
Our recent dramas are filled with such beautiful examples that put all the mothers to shame because they do everything they are supposed to do, to make things even more difficult for a daughter. Ever since our writers have gotten fixated with the idea of rape, they have made sure that the rapist finds an alliance within his victim’s home & he hits a jackpot because it is the mother who is going gaga over the rapist of her own daughter for the reasons best known to her. The mahaan mothers in Chup Raho & Sangat are clear winners when it comes to befriending the rapists because when it comes to their daughters, they end up suffering from short term memory loss & easily forget what their daughter has been through. Our writers have really underestimated the power of a mother & the lengths she can go to in order to protect her child who has been through such a physical & emotional trauma. Where Rameen’s mother in Chup Raho was hired at Rs. 500/hour to say ‘Chup Raho’ repeatedly, Ayesha’s mother in Sangat is hired to create a comfy abode for her daughter’s rapist, but if I have to pick one of them for the Worst Mother of the Century Award, then hands down, Zubaida of Sangat is the undisputed winner because she has completely erased the memory of what happened to her daughter, she has defied the grandma gene because she is completely aloof to the condition of her ailing grand-daughter, she is educated enough to send her daughter off to see the shrink but doesn’t have a time to sit with her daughter herself, she is stupid enough to blame her daughter for flirting with her muh-bola beta aka rapist & to top it all, she has adopted the rapist & is doing everything to babysit him because she is so courteous that her heart will burst if she doesn’t shower someone with the love she carries in her heart for everyone, excluding her daughter & her granddaughter.
If the writers want to show mothers like Rasheeda of Sadqay Tumhare, then it actually makes sense because Rasheeda’s character was completely black & she was against each & everyone in her family. She never had a good relation with her mother, she hated her sister, she used & fooled her husband & then when it came to her daughter, she was against her happiness too, so that actually made us understand her character that Rasheeda was someone who could never see anyone else happy so to see her bent on ruining Shano’s life seemed justified from her perspective, but what justification do the writers have for coming up with the characters like Rameen & Ayesha’s mothers who are best of friends with EVERYONE around them, who are walking an extra mile for EVERYONE around them, who are babysitting EVERYONE around them except their own daughters? I find it hard to absorb that the mothers in our dramas are shown to form stronger ties & relations with strangers & not worry an ounce about the sufferings of their own children. It is often seen that if a daughter is in a vulnerable state & has hit the rock bottom, the mother would speak about all the weak points & will only talk about the negative side of the spectrum to shake & burden her daughter even more. Instead of telling her that things are going to be ohkay, our mothers are seen forcing their daughters to do the things that will never make them happy & won’t let their inner-selves be in peace. Recently, Munira in Gul-e-Rana has hopped on the bandwagon too & the way she is progressing, I am sure it won’t take her too long to make it to the Hall of Fame of worst mothers because Gul-e-Rana’s cousin, who hardly meets her could sense that Rana didn’t look happy, even the servant of the house Gulab Khan looked more like a mother to her because he could see that Rana was down & depressed, but the one who became the brand ambassador of blindfolds at that point was Rana’s mother Munira, who only showed up with a baton to remind her daughter that she has to please her sartaaj & she is not allowed to cause him distress or else her mother will go on a wheezing spree!
I actually detest the idea that mothers are only used as preachers & that too for all the wrong reasons. It’s been a while where we got to see such a scenario that in stead of worrying about her own nose, a mother got down to the level of her daughter & thought things through her daughter’s perspective. I thank my friend Fatima Awan for pointing out another questionable trend that when a daughter shows at a door step with a luggage in her hand, a mother never asks or gives a thought to what her daughter must’ve been through. In fact the moment the door bell rings, a mother rolls up her sleeves & starts brainstorming to come up with an emotional blackmailing tactic to send her daughter back to her sartaaj’s house. Kiran’s mother in Kankar was also another one of those mighty mothers who thought it was ohkay to let go of her husband’s secret history of domestic abuse in order to convince her daughter that it is ohkay to get beaten up by your husband because by the end of the day, you need to rely on a man for so many things & that’s how the life goes by! Another fact that is sickening is that they always show women from middle class & at times those who themselves are educated, who can do so much more than what they think. I am not generalizing here by speaking about a social class but it doesn’t quite hit home for me that mothers who do have a little more resources are shown so weak & highly dependent.
Oh, another trend that has been prevailing in our dramas is that behind every forced marriage, there is going to be a mother & make no mistake, she will do everything to hold her ground & would resort to lying if she feels the need to add more weight to her decision. I just watched Aabro (keep an eye for its overview though) & in this drama too, Ali’s mother, even after getting a clear cut STOP sign from her son is bent on getting him married to the girl she thinks is good for him. Why can’t we see more such characters of mothers like Durr-e-Shahwaar, who when sensed what her daughter was going through, decided to guide her using her own journey as an example? She was able to do that because she herself lived an exemplary life, that is why when she felt her daughter needed a lifelong lesson, she shared everything with her just in order to help the situation. Even though, this one isn’t that examplary of a mother but I liked the mother-children relation that was shown in Miraat ul Uroos, where Rafia was in an awe of her kids but when her eldest son Hammad, who she loved the most started to draw a line after his marriage, she didn’t make things awkward for him & took a step back to show her support even though she was hurt by his attitude.
It is actually a shame that now when I am trying to think about the characters of good mothers, I really am forced to do some thinking but when it comes to the weird mummies out there, the list is never-ending. I actually wish to see a mother & a daughter having a heart to heart conversation with each other. I actually wish to see such a scenario where a daughter doesn’t have to say anything & before the words make it to her mouth, it’s the mother who reads her mind & asks what she is going through. I so wish to see such a mother who isn’t so oblivious of her daughter’s hardships. I so wish to see a mother who creates such an atmosphere for her daughter where she knows that despite failing many a times, her mother is going to stay by her side & protect her no matter what. I so wish to see them showing us what an actual & ideal relationship between a mother & daughter is like. I so wish to see such a mother who fights against all the odds & stands by her daughter’s side no matter what. I so wish to see a mother who is more sensitive towards her own children than she is towards the strangers.
Our dramas have always been our pride & joy & we love it when we get to know that our dramas are being appreciated but unfortunately, it looks like some writers these days are only focused on ruining the image of our dramas not only in Pakistan but in the outside world too, because of their limited mental capabilities & typical mindedness. No doubt our writers deserve to be acknowledged for showing creativity in terms of writing but sadly, in a completely wrong direction. They have ruined each & every relation that we experience but I so wish they stop doing this to the sacred relation that a mother has with her offspring. I hope that before penning down the scripts & even before focusing on the problems & issues of a hero heroine, our writers put their heart & soul in the characters of a mother & would make her so strong that she will take the story forward by staying true to what she is known for & by showcasing what she is capable of. Living on the Edge is the only Pakistani reality show other then dance and singing competitions, which involves physical tasks, some drama, cat fights, many more spices and most important of all “BREAKING NEWS”.
Complete setup of this show is in hands of Waqar Zakka, who messes up this show as much as he can.He has somehow tried to generate copy of Indian reality show Roadies and a part from Splittsvilla. I have watched two of the seasons of Waqar’s show and came to know that his level of making this show popular is far low as compared to any other reality show.
I found his show quiet abnormal like audition episodes are prolonged more than necessary whereas main tasks take 7 or 8 more episodes after auditions. And in these 7 or 8 episodes ,we are still unable to watch properly formatted and well compiled show rather, a cat fight takeover whole of the episode sometimes. Also, 5-6 people get eliminated at once and more than that the unending finale.. arghhhhhh.. last season’s finale seemed as if it will never end. Even after announcement of ultimate Prince and Princess Waqar raised many twists and turns..seemed as if he is not willing to give prize money to the contestants.
This time, Waqar has created another drama. Firstly, he put Aroosa in limelight for mirch masala and cat fights.
When show was about to come to end ,he stopped the show claiming that people are saying that Finale contestants are totally incapable of being in the finale and then he raised messaging campaign through which he tried to earn handsome amount of money. And after that very day till now, we didnot hear any news about Living On the Edge Finale. I guess, it was Waqar’s strategy to make this season that way. He earned much , and when the turn of giving away the prize money came, he arose silly issues. Else, this could also be a possibility that he doesn’t get much amount through his show this time and he tried to get more amount through that messaging trick so that he can collect the prize money atleast and then come up with the finale.. :p

Pakistani dramas are considered a decent family entertainment. The daily episodic serials are widely watched by the viewers. The recent Pakistani television shows are making a great mark. Getting good TRPs and views have become a normal thing for Pakistani dramas. It has a decent Trp of 4.8. Hum TV’s Jafaa garnered 6 million views as per last week’s readings. It also got a good trp of 5.3. Teri Chhaon Mein garnered 5.9 million on last week’s episode with a low trp of 3.0. Zard Patton Ka Bunn got 4.7 million views as per last week’s readings and it also got an amazing trp of 7.3. Love stories are one of the most common picks for the drama writers since there is always a lot to write and we too love them, if they’re executed properly. Dusri biwi concept had been a famous one but somehow it was lesser to be seen this year. And coming towards the scenarios, this year brought in some really fascinating dramas, and i hate to admit but there were many dramas revolving around the ‘Love Triangle’ scenario.
Love stories are often interesting when there is a ‘third person’ involved. The third person would probably be a vamp or too good to be real. Love triangles can be really captivating if the drama has a different story and if not none, then at least less clichés. Not all the love triangles seen this year were worth watching but nevertheless, let’s have a look at some of the most tangled on-screen ‘Love Triangles’ of 2016.
1) Zoya, Shariq and Saba in Intezar
The story of Intezar has been one of the most annoying one, much to the disappointment of the audiences. It was a story of 2 wives and one man. Zoya is a married girl but her husband dies in an accident and that’s when the story develops further. The lead Shariq, falls for Zoya but has to marry his cousin Saba, because she was a physical abuse victim and was advised to marry in order to get over the trauma (sick logic). She after the marriage doesn’t want any relation with Shariq and so, he marries his first love Zoya. Then continues the new chapter when Saba starts getting jealous seeing Shariq giving all his attention to Zoya. Their story certainly ended abruptly.
2) Mannu, Salahuddin and Jeena in Mann Mayyal
Mann Mayyal had the most twisted and boring love triangle. Salahuddin and Mannu loved each other but the story takes a drastic turn and the lovers are separated. Mannu gets married and her husband is nothing but just a character to create some unimportant drama. Her husband eventually dies and well, Salahuddin wants to return back to Mannu but Jeena becomes obsessed with him and stoops low to every extent to get the guy. Every vamp in the drama dies and so does Jeena, she commits suicide. As every cliched story gets the lovers united, it did happened in Mann Mayyal too since it was a blend of nothing.
3) Saba, Irteza and Saman in Bin Roye
Bin Roye has lots of loopholes and unconvincing twists. Saba’s character has always been a reason for many viewers to tune into the drama. Saba a happy go lucky girl dreams of marrying her cousin, who is the love of her life but her dreams are devastated when he falls for her very own sister Saman instead and ends up marrying her. Saba doesn’t turn negative but still has feelings for Irteza, Saman on the other hand dies and now Saba is married to another guy. The question that rises is, Will Saba’s dreams ever see the face of light, well the answer is obviously yes since Irteza is suddenly having feelings for her out of no where.
4) Nida, Sikandar and Shama in Dil Banjaara
There are very few dramas on-air that have an impressive scale and Dil Banjaara is undoubtedly one of them. The story is of Nida and Sikandar who fall in love and share a beautiful chemistry in the exotic locations of Nepal. Sikandar has a girl waiting for him, Shama who is paralyzed but loves Sikandar unconditionally and is committed to him. Sikandar’s lack of interest towards Shama is quite obvious till date since he has fallen head over heels for Nida. The lovers Sikandar and Nida have now parted ways for the best. The rest of the story is yet to be unfolded so let’s see how their relationship grows.
5) Zain, Zara and Saad in Guzarish
Guzarish was a drama where one kept wondering who would the girl go with and the love triangle saga was found interesting by many. Zara and Zain loved each other but circumstances landed them in a totally unexpected situation where Zara has to marry her cousin Saad. Saad loved Zara since years and it was unbearable for Zain to see his lady love with another man. Though despite loving Zain, Zara decided to move on and gave her self completely to Saad. The ending was an emotional one where Zara chooses Saad and Zain too moves on.

With the advent of private channels and so many new production houses, the new actors have more opportunities now. That is the reason why we see new faces on our television screens more often now. Social media definitely plays an important role in helping these new actors carve their own identity and reach out to their fans. Out of all the weird and obnoxious trends that have worked for producers in the recent past, slapping the heroines is hands down the most distasteful one. Unfortunately, the producers are convinced that when a heroine gets slapped, the drama immediately gains more attention than usual. Controversy sells and slaps sell Pakistani dramas even more! This new trend is picking up really fast and some of the heroines have absolutely no problem getting slapped repeatedly. There are others who actually discussed these slaps in detail and are not hesitant to share them on their social media handles. In other words some of these heroines wear these slaps like they would a medal for their outstanding accomplishments. It won’t be wrong to say that being slapped has become the USB of at least two leading actresses of our drama industry.
While watching a negative character get away with the impossible for a painfully long period of time, many of us want to see them getting a tight slap for everything they have done. Such slaps are usually well deserved and they do fit into the story. It is however rather bizarre that even the best heroines who are sweet enough to give you a cavity get slapped as if it is perfectly natural for people to go around slapping others. Some of the negative characters have been slapped so many times in recent dramas that we have reason to believe the writers are convinced that actions speak louder than words! Why show a heated verbal confrontation when the thappars can do the trick!
When our writers show women getting slapped so casually in dramas, it definitely desensitizes the viewers. And those people living outside Pakistan who are watching these dramas must be convinced that hitting women is considered perfectly normal in our society. In contrast, men are never shown being hit in this manner, even if that was the case two wrongs make a right. It basically shows that there is a certain mindset behind showing such scenarios. Even if there are viewers who ‘enjoy’ watching such ‘entertainment’, the writers and actresses involved really should know better.

Minal Khan
If there was an award category dedicated especially to those actresses playing such characters that have gotten the most number of slaps in Pakistani dramas, Minal Khan would’ve been an undefeated champion. We’re not sure if it’s her luck or she deliberately chooses such projects where her characters are subjected to some kind of domestic violence; in some cases severe and in others, just in the form of slaps here and there. It is absolutely safe to believe that every time Minal Khan packs up, she goes home with a red or swollen cheek(s) because of the number of re-takes it must take as well as the number of slaps she receives.
It has now come to a point where Minal Khan has become a laughing stock for receiving so many slaps; in both her dramas that are currently on-air such as Jalan and Nand, the characters of Nisha and Rabi have been slapped a lot of times. Nisha got slapped by her ex-fiance Ahmed, her mother, her sister Misha, her current husband Asfand, and even her sister in law Kinza. Rabi has gotten slapped by her ex-husband Saqib, her ex-sister-in-law Gohar, and her current husband Jahangir. This is just the counting from her dramas that are airing right now, we have not even gone down memory lane and explored Minal Khan’s previous dramas because we’re sure she has been keeping up with the ritual of being the most-slapped character/actress year after year!
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan got slapped by multiple characters in the drama serial Thora Sa Haq and the viewers can never forget the time when Shehwar’s wife in Mere Pass Tum Ho slapped her. In both these dramas, Ayeza Khan played two completely different characters yet her reactions to these slaps were more or less the same. There was an entire debate on the slap she received in Mere Pass Tum Ho and Ayeza Khan did not shy away from sharing her two cents about it. In Thora Sa Haq Seher was the ultimate victim who started getting slap more often when the drama had been on air for more than 15 weeks.
This basically goes to show that when the ratings are going down, these thappars play a major role in making the viewers tune into a drama again. The slap in Mere Pass Tum Ho was a game-changer but the ones shown in Thora Sa Haq were used to add to Seher’s bechargi. The most fun bit was that every time Ayeza’s characters got slapped there was an entire audience whose reactions were captured dramatically!
Ramsha Khan
Ramsha Khan is a very strong performer, she has definitely come a long way and the ease and effortlessness in her dialogue delivery make her a very fine actor. However, Ramsha Khan too is guilty of playing such characters that get slapped and are subjected to domestic abuse. In her drama, Kaisa Hai Naseeban, nudges, pushes, and slaps were a part of Maryam’s daily routine.
In the drama serial Khud Parast, Uswa was married to Hanan who definitely had anger issues, and even in that drama, she got her fair share of slap doses. In her currently on-air drama Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Samia freshly received a slap across her face when she went a bit all out in front of her mother to prove her point. We’re pretty sure that although Ramsha Khan is a fan of wearing a full face of makeup, considering the number of slaps she receives, she must not be investing a lot of money buying blushes and cheek products!
Yumna Zaidi
Yumna Zaidi is one of the finest actors in the Pakistani drama industry. She is definitely at this stage where she can run the show and even has a lot of say in what her character is put through. Yumna Zaidi definitely gets involved in her characters, because of which she gets to give her 100% and make those character her own. However, at this stage Yumna Zaidi doesn’t seem much comfortable with the idea of receiving slaps from flawed male leads, therefore she has restricted the slap-reception to her parent characters in the drama.
This is the reason in both her recent drama serials Pyar Ke Sadqay as well as Raaz e Ulfat, the characters of Mahjabeen and Mushk received slaps from the father and the mother. When we talk about slaps, we talk about slaps coming in all forms, in every shape and size, from each and every person, therefore getting those from the parents in dramas is pretty wrong as well!
Nausheen Shah
Nausheen Shah is quite vocal about women rights and she herself has a very strong personality, she has spoken against the portrayal of women in Pakistani dramas on different platforms, but it is unfortunate that maybe due to the lack of opportunities for her, she ends up taking up such roles which show her as a helpless woman.
During her promotions of Khud Parast, she was honest in saying that she did not connect with the character of Beenish and did not understand why a woman would stay in a relationship that was toxic and deprived her of basic rights. However, it is understandable that not every actor has the freedom to portray the characters they want to therefore they have to stick with the script but Nausheen Shah too has been one such actor who has been at the receiving end of domestic abuse in her dramas. In the drama serial Khud Parast as well as Bikhray Moti, the characters of Beenish and Faiza were physically abused by their partners!
Sonya Hussyn
Sonya Hussyn has often talked about how ‘selective’ she is while choosing the projects she works in. She wants people to understand that she takes her craft really seriously yet she had absolutely no issue getting slapped not once but twice in two different dramas. It seems like Sonya Hussyn is quite comfortable getting slapped by Zahid Ahmed, perhaps if he was playing the lead in Mere Pass Tum Ho, she wouldn’t have rejected the offer! In Ishq Zahe Naseeb and Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida, these thappars could easily have been avoided yet somehow Sonya Hussyn never had an issue going ahead with the idea.
In both these scenes, her reaction was more or less the same and there was an ‘audience’ present just like in all the other such scenarios. It seems like there can’t be maar peet in these dramas without an audience on set and the director makes sure that everyone’s reaction is captured to increase the ‘intensity’ of the scene because hitting someone is just not intense enough!
Mawra Hocane
Mawra Hocane recently joined the club by getting slapped not once but twice in the drama serial Sabaat. Miraal slapped her twice in front of an entire crowd and although Anaya’s reaction for the first time was slightly more realistic, however, this was yet another unnecessary slap added in the story to get ‘attention’. The second slap was one of the most ridiculous we witnessed in dramas this year. Miraal slapped Anaya once again in front of the entire office and this time around she stayed quiet because she wanted to prove to Hassan that she was a good wife.
This was another one of those thappars that sent out the wrong message – if women have to put up with physical abuse in order to hold their relationships together then it is nothing short of ‘heroism’! It was disgusting how the message of ‘compromising and sacrifice’ was added to this scenario.
Sanam Jung
Sanam Jung’s comeback play Mein Na Janoo was the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. She put all the becharis to shame and after compromising on quality big time while hosting her morning show, she was pushed to new lows when she was literally beaten with a stick by her blind husband! Even after all this beating, she begged her husband not to leave her. This beating was definitely one-of-a-kind since the hopeless situation this character was already in was probably not enough to reinforce just how majboor and bechari she was. This beating was taken really casually by Saira (Sanam’s character) and we can only wonder why Zahid Ahmed went along with such nonsense.
Zara Noor Abbas
Zara Noor Abbas has only worked in a handful of dramas but even then she managed to get slapped not once but twice. In Khamoshi she played the role of a girl who was sent away by her parents to work in her uncle’s house. The uncle’s wife accused her of stealing her gold and that is when apart from the thappar, she got a good beating! In Zebaish, the thappar was just as casual as many others on this list. Noshi was only surprised for a microsecond when her mother slapped her, she was back to being her ‘cool’ self the next second!
