Few weeks ago, we came across the news that Arab world will now get entertained with the dubbed version of Humsafar. We are first one in Pakistan to break the news that Mahira Khan of Rafeeq ul Rooh has entered the race for the title of “Beauty Queens of Dubbed Series”.
Mahira’s entry in the contest made her the first Pakistani Actress in the history of Arab television to be included in this race. Her performance was highly appreciated across entire Arab World (22 countries) when Dubai based MBC Networks dubbed drama serial “Rafeeq ul Rooh” (Humsafar) was broadcasted.Alongwith Mahira, Indian actress Kartika Kamra,two Mexican actresses and three from Korea have been selected.
MBC networks, being the largest public vote network, opened voting lines from Nov 15th to Dec 1st across the entire Arab World. On being born eight years after her parents’ marriage and being spoilt
Mahira Khan rewound her childhood, telling that she was called a “miracle baby” at her birth, since she was born eight years after her parents’ marriage when they had almost given up hope and were planning to adopt. So she was terribly spoilt and pampered by all including her grandfather whom she was very close to.
Then she had a brother just one year after her and he was her own baby so Mahira really spoilt him. They lived together in a big house with extended family so she grew up between cousins, most of whom were boys.
On having strict parents
Mahira Khan told how her mother was very protective and paranoid of her. She also remembers her as being really melodramatic like scaring the kids by threatening to take them to the burns ward. She was also quite strict about the studies, but Mahira spoke very fondly that she was never really scared of her parents. Her home was always open to her friends and her father would get up in the middle of the night and cook meals for whomever was awake.
On not finishing her degree
Mahira had gone to USA for studying chemical engineering but soon found it too hard and switched to psychology which she left after a few semesters because she had to work two jobs to support herself and her studies. There seemed to be some details missing since she had such well off parents but she told just this much.
On finding love
Many years after her divorce, Mahira was still very forthright about her love life, marriage and divorce. She told that she had fell in love at fourteen years of age but he came to Pakistan some years before her. At twenty one, she also left her studies and came to Pakistan and got married. Though it didn’t work out for her but Mahira still spoke of it as a magical time in her life.
On motherhood
Mahira is a proud mother to eight year Azlan whom she affectionately calls Azoo. She said that whenever she is back from work, she just holds this little person she has created and owns and that’s when she truly feels at home.

She also recounted her journey of being hired as a VJ and resisting that because she wanted to be an actress. However , that happened in its own time and during Bol and Humsafar, she was still a newbie and quite taken aback by the enormity of this business but by the time Shehrezat happened, she had truly gotten the hang of getting into the skin of her characters.

Mahira said that controversy with Ranbir Kapoor was the first time she had fallen into a personal one, and that has made her wiser and more cautious at the expense of her innocence.

But I then realise that these are nameless, faceless people who are bored, just sitting and talking about things. The more I feed them, the more they will grow. If you think I’m right or wrong, that is your opinion, I’ll do what I have to do.”
She further added,
“The harassment issue is not just in Pakistan, it is a global epidemic. How I see these trolls, and by the way I think trolling is so last year, it’s so passe. People need to go get on with the trend. They need to use their voice for something positive.”

“It’s such an interesting project and I’m so happy that I did it! I don’t know how it’s going to fair, I don’t know what going to happen, but I’m so glad I took this challenge up. Punjabi has such flair! I can’t explain it.”
She further added that Hamza Ali Abbasi knows his Punjabi and Fawad’s dialect is still better than her’s.
“I used to call Hamza up and ask him to come an hour early, because he is really, really good with Punjabi. Fawad hails from Lahore, so he is familiar with the dialect. Well, he’s better than me,”
Speaking of the chemistry she and Fawad Khan share onscreen she said,
“There’s one thing about me and Fawad. There are days when we don’t really talk to each other on sets all day, but the moment we come on a scene together, we sort of know each other’s beats, which is lovely! It’s amazing that someone gets you and you get that person without really talking, you know.”

Pakistani diva Mahira Khan finally got to promote her Bollywood debut flick Raees with Shah Rukh Khan and the crew for the first time in India. Raees has been basking in success and the crew is still promoting the film in full swing.
Shahrukh Khan along with Nawazudddin Siqidui and director Rahul Dholakia addressed a press conference celebrate the worldwide success of Bollywood blockbuster film ‘Raees’ on Friday. Mahira who couldn’t promote her film in person, joined the conference via video conference from Pakistan and expressed her happiness on the film’s success.
Mahira Khan shared her experience regarding the film and was a breath of fresh air for attendees who asked her numerous questions.
On being asked if she had any fears before ‘Raees’ released, Mahira said, “I had this big fear that people will root for Shah Rukh’s character and not me. But once the film released, all my fears were put to rest by the response that I received, which has been completely fantastic and I am very grateful.”
When asked about her experience of sharing screen space with the Bollywood’s King Khan, Mahira said it was nothing less than a “dream come true moment” for her and she will cherish this all her life.
“He spoiled me a lot. It was like a dream come true. I wonder how someone can work with anyone else after working with him. SRK always used to make us laugh even before a serious scene, due to which we simply couldn’t keep a straight face for the camera.”
“I was nervous as hell. Sometimes I used to wish I wasn’t a big Shah Rukh fan. It was scary but it got better, especially after we shot Zaalima. Working with him is a dream come true. Nothing short of that,” she added.
When asked to compare between Fawad Khan and SRK, Mahira said, “My first couple of work was with Fawad. He is really lovely. But at no point I was in awe of Fawad. He is a great co-actor. I still get his calls. With him [SRK]…I think to compare both of them would be so wrong.” The superstar then cracked a joke which left everyone in splits. Quoting SRK, she said, “He says, ‘Dadhi (beard ) bata de kiski better hai?‘”

Mahira Khan always had a dream of working with her childhood idol from across the border namely Shah Rukh Khan and that dream came true when she was offered to star in a Bollywood film next to him. Mahira Khan plays the role of the wife of Shah Rukh Khan in the film “Raees” but what most people don’t know is that Sanam Saeed was offered this role before her. After Sanam Saeed won the hearts of many when her drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai aired in India she was offered this role by the producers but according to her she did not have the time to go for an audition to India because she was busy with her wedding preparations. This is what she said in an interview when she was asked if she refused to do the film because she did not like the character, “I did from whatever little I read. I was getting married those days.. I wasn’t able to go for a physical audition to India.”
Mahira Khan was asked by one of her fans on twitter if it bothered her that she was the second choice for the film. Her answer was, “Hi! I don’t like speaking about the films/dramas I’ve left, neither about other actors/actresses and their careers/choices.
