Jugan expected to make a power comeback after losing weight!

0

It is turning into a trait of our drama industry that the actresses, after reaching to a peak of popularity suddenly go off-screen and make a power comeback with either a new style or a new controversy. After Nadia Khan and Shaista Wahidi, It is Jugan who has been working out really hard on her fitness and now is enthusiastic for the new roles and opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Jugan has been hosting many shows and is also seen in many advertisements but it was for some time that her acting career went at hold state, thanks to Hum2 that the old shows like Pani jaisa pyaar kept the lady on screen.

It is now that Jugan has really worked hard in getting her slimmer, reducing some real weight. No doubt about the fact that the actress is really talented and the audience adore her for her guise.

We hope to see Jugan in upcoming dramas with some powerful roles,

Judge Frank Caprio is an American Municipal Court judge who is known for his compassion more than anything else. He is known for giving verdicts which have won him millions of fans around the world. He often shows how a judge’s job is not only to punish the criminals but also to judge whether some people simply should be given more leverage because the law they have broken is nothing compared to the hardships they face in real life.

Judge Frank 1

The student told Judge Frank Caprio that he was from Pakistan and how much people loved him in Pakistan. Although Judge Frank laughed his statement off as buttering but gave him a leverage because he was a student and wished him the best for his future life.

Judaii – ‘Too much to Handle’! – Episodes 14 & 15

Kia inn kay haq ki khatir aap apnay bachon kay khilaaf khari ho sakti hain is the question Junaid poses to Mehr and is basically what this drama is all about now. Where it was kind of necessary to show how everyone reacted (yawn) last week, the episode was not as interesting as last night’s episode was.

Having brought Zaina and Zaryan back with her and following Haider’s tantrum and Hamza’s gobsmacked-ness (!!), Mehr realizes that she can not have Zaina and Zaryan stay at her house just yet. So the two end up staying at Junaid’s house much to his wife’s horror and resentment. However negative a character I feel Saman generally is and yes we all feel bad for Zaryan and Zaina but I could not totally fault Saman for being wary of having two strangers come live under her roof and not even asked for her opinion (which was predictable anyway but still). Well, from the frying pan into the fire, Zaina and Zaryan did look completely awkward and out of place at Junaid’s house.

So, let’s forget about Mehr whose husband had a secret which she learns of after his death, let’ forget about Haider and Hamza whose father had another family they did not know of, forget Zaina and Zaryan and the hardships they faced and are still facing. Let’s focus on the people who have been most affected by all this chaos – Alia and her mother. ‘Kissi ko moo dikhanay kay layek nahin rahay’. Tsk,tsk. Alia feels she is absolutely justified in saying what she wants to Mehr. I understand Mehr is a mild natured woman and she is confused and upset at the moment but I wish she was a bit more firm with Alia when Alia went on ranting about how ‘ayaash’ and ‘bewafa’ her father in law had been. Team Alia up with kaan ka kacha Haider and the crickets and there you have the ‘villains’ in this drama. Sigh.

PIC1

When Hamza meets Minahil and tells her who Zaina really is, the way he speaks and looks, made me feel he was going to be physically sick. Later when he meets Zaina he has the same expression and I thought man, is it the restaurant or the food or what but as his conversation with Haider later shows, he feels Zaina and he are as good as siblings. So, Alia’s internet finally did resume working and she finds herself face to face with an on screen smiling Zaina. All hell breaks loose. Obviously. With Hamza’s quivering voice and ‘oh this is too much to handle’ for the umpteenth time and Alia’s screeching and pursed lips with Haider’s parrot like rant of ‘I am saying what Alia just said’ – the trio have seem to have established that Zaina is Hamza’s sister. Wah. Okay, had I not watched Tum Yaad Aye I might have had a slightly more tolerant attitude to all this distress but in Tum Yaad Aye where a father is becoming a susr and a sister almost became a saas and yes, mix and match all relationships you can think of – they were there – you can not blame me for snorting at ‘Zaina is your behnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn’!

Amidst lots of ‘mahiyaaaaaaaaaaaa hoooooooooooooo mahiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’, Hamza tells Zaina all is over between them. I love when Qurat ul Ain Baloch croons in the background of this drama, she has such a beautiful and soulful voice but this mahiya wail is so annoying. I liked Minahil’s character but maybe I am being a bit cynical here and maybe it is for the cynical people that this drama shows there are people like Mehr and Minahil around (possibly) but I do feel Faryal Mehmood marching here and there with her bag on her arm at a permanent 2pm or 10pm whichever way you look at it – is trying a tad bit too hard to fit into the character she is portraying. Was it my imagination or did Affan Waheed have his lipstick look here too as he does in Bhai? Or maybe the shirt brought out the ‘color’ on his face? And Neelum’s blue shirt with the dark dupatta was very military like and distracting. Sana Askari and Khalid Malik’s characters are annoying and negative as hell but they have played their part well. I missed the scenes between Imran Aslam and Samina Peerzada and I hope there are more of them to come yet. If something sticks out like a sore thumb in this drama, it is the pair of Affan Waheed and Neelum Munir who fail to make me feel for their characters. Khair, that is just my opinion maybe because I have had enough of his quivering voice from Guzarish , Bhai and now Judai. I understand some of you may feel differently.

PIC 2

All in all, I did enjoy the latest episode and glad Zaina’s identity has been revealed and was not dragged out. Also it will be interesting to see how things pan out with Zaina and Zaryan back in Mehr’s house. How will Mehr deal with the negativity and when will she find out too who Zaina is and do her feelings change in the slightest? When will someone get these guys a mufti who can explain that Hamza and Zaina are well, not actually siblings? Or should I forego my thoughts of a career as a psychiatrist since Minahil seems to be doing a great job understanding everyone’s psychology and play the role of a mediator instead and have this family meet Zainy’s family from Tum Yaad Aye so they can exchange notes on who is mahram and who is not!

How did you all find these episodes and the pace at which the drama is moving? Did you enjoy them or find them ‘too much to handle’? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Judai (جدائی) on Geo Tv

Judai (جدائی) is a new drama on Geo Tv starting from 14th May 2015 at 8 pm.

Starring Moammar Rana and Sabreen Hisbani in lead roles Judai is based on impacts of family breakup on kids. Like any other Geo Tv drama, the situation is quite over dramatized (as evident from promos) with two pakkay kids.

Judai – The Weeping Brotherhood! – Episode 16

So the overflow of emotions continues. Mehr brings Zaina and Zaryan to her home and unknowingly offers Zaina up as the sacrificial lamb for Alia and Haider to zero in on. Sooo sooo relieved Zaina was not left saying ‘meri baat tau sunain’ and I held my breath until she completed her sentence when she says she knew Hamza in Lahore – but she had no idea he was Hassan’s son. Her statement seems to fall on deaf ears – well except Mehr’s who believes Zaina. I have to say Mehr does have a lot of faith in these two strangers for yes, we as viewers know the truth but for Mehr – and even Haider and Alia,  Zaina could be guilty as Alia suspects. Hamza however is another story. He sure seemed to be a lot more persuasive when he was bent on wooing Zaina in Lahore and is now reduced to a head bobbing speechless puppet!

Mehr’s slap was a bit drastic and I had actually expected Zaryan might lash out at Haider then when Haider questions Zaryan and Zaina’s motives. Suitcase promptly packed in minutes, Haider and Alia move in to Alia’s parents’ house. Why is it that the bahus in our dramas are either pure evil or pure doormats? Why is there generally never a woman who faces her share of situations that life throws her way yet she is not a bechari nor a scheming shrew?!

Haider’s crumpling face when Mehr slaps him and then later when Alia literally rubs salt in his wounds made me shake my head in amusement. And then Hamza’s quivering voice that has been threatening to bring on the tears finally gave in and it was so not amusing to watch a grown Hamza cry like that! I am all for sensitive, ‘human’ men with feelings and of course even grown men may shed a tear or two in grief but this spineless, kaan ka kacha Hamza has no sympathy from me. He was the one who pursued Zaina and went all out to try to get her to spend time with him etc. For all his ‘itna toot kar chaha tha’ you would think he would have a bit more faith especially when his mother and best friend Minahil seem to trust Zaina a whole lot more then what excuse does he, the man who supposedly loves her a lot have?

Zaryan’s reaction to finding Zaina had hid the truth from him was justified. I like how he says that he did not have an issue that Zaina was friends with Hamza but the fact that she hid it from him and then he had to be told the truth in front of Haider and Co hurt him. Waisay, why is it that Minahil has to talk sense into these guys? Why can Minahil see what Hamza can not? True he is in shock but then so is Zaina. Yes, you guessed right – not a fan of Hamza’s personality at all!

PIC 1

Hamza is angry with Mehr now too and she feels she has lost her sons to the ‘new bachay’ as Haider calls them. I get Zaryan’s guilt over having caused so much havoc in Mehr’s life but I also understand how they really have no place to go. Junaid’s advice to him to stay and take what is his does ring true. If Hassan had made provisions for Zaina and Zaryan to live comfortably then given how utterly alone and dependent they are, I would see how Zaryan may want to swallow his pride for now till the storm blows over and they are in a position to leave Mehr’s house.

I wonder what it was that Hamza wanted to say to Zaina. I expected a bit more of a reaction from Mehr when she learns of the relationship between Zaina and Hamza and uff I do mean their romance and not supposedly the behn bhai wala rishta that Alia seems bent on pushing forward!! Even though Hassan had the foresight and the sense to make adjustments in his will so that Zaina and Zaryan get their share too I wonder if Haider will still manage to find a way round the whole thing to suit himself. Will Hamza get over his ‘hum aap kay hain kaun – bhai ya lurrrve’ soon enough or is that to carry on a while? Will there be more confrontations and tears leading nowhere? Excluding Alia-Haider’s conversations, this episode did hold my interest and I am curious to see where all this leads to. I just hope it does not become one of those dramas where Haider-Alia-Hamza will continue teaming up against Zaina-Zaryan-Mehr until the last twenty minutes of the last episode where everyone will suddenly become one big happy family!  I will never trust a drama again if that happens, LOL!

Judai – Episodes 9-12 – Haye, my heartstrings!

Each of the previous four episodes had me wiping tears and sighing. Now whether I am getting senti in my old age (ooops, did I say old?!) or whether this drama really does tug at your heartstrings – I think I would opt for the latter. And not because I do not want to be called ‘old’. Haha. I was on the fence about this drama initially. It was interesting but just about. Cast good, production values good, OST great – but it did not lure you in. Yet out of curiousity to learn Hassan’s secret and how the characters were in turn related made me watch – until the 9th episode. Then, pure interest took over.

Gaiti’s (Saima) death totally took me by surprise. I had sort of written off the serial to be about the relation between the two widows and their children hence Gaiti’s death and therefore disappearance from the drama was surprising. Mehr has always been shown to be a compassionate woman. After her initial outrage over learning of Hassan’s other wife, her anger begins to dissipate as she uncovers the actual facts that led to the marriage and the nature of the marriage itself. She sees Gaiti and her children are not the gold diggers she may have at one moment imagined them to be or as Haider believes them to be. When Junaid informs her of Gaiti’s death, she does not waste a minute and flies to Lahore to meet Zaryan and Zaina.

Zaryan is awed to meet Mehr but Zaina has always been bitter about Hassan and his other family and wants nothing to do with Mehr. Mehr feels Zaryan and Zaina are the victims in all this and should be given their rightful inheritance which Hasan left them. Also, she feels upset that Gaiti had reached out to her before her death for her childrens’ sake. She wants to help them but Zaryan politely refuses any offers of help and manages to get a job which does not pay well and eventually loses both job and the rented house they lived in.

PIC1

Zaina has grown closer to Hamza and he proposes to her which she accepts. Hamza has told Haider about his lady lurrrve but he has not seen or met her yet. Haider, Alia and the crickets are up to no good as usual. Haider’s character while selfish is not uncommon where he feels he and Hamza are the only rightful heirs to his father’s wealth. At the times he expresses to Alia he may have been a bit rude to his mother etc, she makes sure to erase any nigglings of doubt in his mind. Sigh. In the latest episode, Hamza who had been kept in the dark about his father’s second marriage also learns the truth and his stance and thoughts are the same as Haider’s until Minahil speaks to him and makes him see everything from Mehr’s point of view.

Not an extraordinary story? Doesn’t have you jumping to catch up on the episodes or decide to watch it next week? I agree. While the story is still different because it focuses on a woman’s quest to do right by her husband’s ‘children’ or ‘responsibilities’ it is the way the whole situation has been dealt with and Samina Peerzada and Imran Aslam’s acting above everyone else’s that makes this drama so interesting. The two wives, saas-bahu plots, two brothers’ ka one love – have all been done to death and this drama throws in its two cents’ worth of the evil bahu and interfering in laws etc too but it offers so much more.

I have never been in awe of an actress as much as I am of Samina Peerzada. She was always an amazing actress but for me she stood out in Durr e Shewar probably because that was around the time I started watching dramas on a more regular basis. But here, I liked her in the initial episodes because it was so nice to see her as a graceful, compassionate woman and then how she reaches out to Zaryan and Zaina after Gaiti’s death. One may wonder does this really happen in real life? Does a woman really care about the children her dead husband chose to take under his protection? But when you look at the whole situation from Mehr’s point of view you see how she has a big heart and accepts that Hassan although was wrong to hide this from her, he did it with good intentions and scrap that, these children are guilty of absolutely nothing. They did not feed off Hassan’s wealth except to meet their needs and education and now with their mother gone and no financial assistance anymore they are truly alone in the world.

Zaryan and Mehr’s conversations were so heartfelt. I really like Zaryan’s character and I love how Imran Aslam has portrayed it. He has just the right amount of pride, gracious to accept Mehr wants to help but wanting to be self sufficient. Yet when the landlord throws them out, I was relieved when he left with Mehr and did not say something silly like ‘we will manage’ when clearly they could not! Zaina comes across as bit of a brat with Mehr but I like how Zaryan chides her each time and we realize that she is like this because she is bitter for she felt Hassan was her father although an absent father and well as long as she does not become an ultra brat or malicious – I can digest her character for now.

PIC2

Samina Peerzada’s expressions, her mothering instinct, how she would touch Zaryan’s hand or arm and treat him like he were really her own son were so natural and so spot on, I can not praise her enough. It is safe to say that Samina Peerzada and Imran Aslam are the stars of this show and had someone else tried to portray their characters I doubt they would have done justice the way these two have and neither would have Judai seem so interesting to me to watch. Faryal Mahmood as Minahil is surprisingly not annoying in this drama which is such a relief. I am quite fed up with Affan Waheed’s quivering voice in his emotional scenes and although Neelum Munir’s scenes with Imran Aslam are at times touching, she and Affan Waheed together almost put me to sleep. Even the seemingly romantic moment when Hamza proposes to Zaina did not have any impact on me. Thankfully the focus of this drama is not their story nor Haider and his wife rather of Mehr and how she tries to do right by Zaryan and Zaina while at the same time risking being criticized and facing opposition from her own sons.

I hope I am not meant to regret my words later as the drama progresses but at this moment I feel Judai is one of the underrated dramas on air. If the drama continues the pace at which it is now and does not drag out any unnecessary tracks, I am definitely interested to see what happens when Zaryan and Zaina come to Karachi with Mehr – if they do, that is. Haider hates the thought of them and I do not expect him to welcome them with open arms but how will Zaryan’s pride take Haider and Alia’s insults and jibes? How will Mehr manage to do right by all four of them.

Has anyone else been watching Judai and find it as good as I do especially after Gaiti’s death? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Judai – Episodes 6-8

So there have been a few developments in these three episodes. All the questions that kept popping up were answered. Saima’s first husband Haris had been an old friend of Hassan’s. He goes to visit his friend’s widow once and the next time he visits her, he finds Saima lying in a pool of blood. I had so many questions in that episode alone but thankfully they were all answered quickly. I wondered how Saima could attempt to take her own life when she was solely responsible for her little children now? I wondered, that no matter how deep her grief, how could she still be walking around zombie like and depressed even after all these years, not caring seemingly about the psychological effect it would have on her children.

Mehr’s initial meeting cum confrontation with Saima ended with Mehr rushing out. I could totally relate to how she came back, wanting to find answers to her questions. I mean, I wanted the answers man!! Woh tau phir bhi Hassan ki biwi thi! Saima apparently suffers from clinical depression, an illness her late husband had been aware of and the treatment of which had caused him to run up such huge debts which she was now left to pay off. I am no psychologist and do not know the intricate details of how such an illness is treated or how deeply it affects the person but I suppose this is why Saima behaves the way she does and answers my questions as to how she could not seem to ‘snap’ out of her grief and be strong for her children.

Anyway, she is too proud to accept ‘charity’ from Hassan when he offers to help. I did like the line he used – how Allah nay boht nawaaza hai. It was nice to hear a rich man sound humble for a change. So then he offers to marry her so that she may accept financial help from him as a husband. Hassan wants to tell Mehr about the ‘arrangement’ but when he returns to Karachi she is unwell and later he seemingly lacks the courage to do so. Saima sensing his discomfort upon his visits tells him he need not visit them regularly and so in essence that is all their relationship ends up being – one of financial aid.

Mehr returns to Karachi and shares what she has learnt with Haider and Alia. The crickets are outraged – sorry, I meant Haider is outraged (I really wish they would do away with that weird crickets background music whenever Haider appears). Anyways, his anger is understandable but what enrages him further is that, we learn Hassan has left a share in his inheritance to Saima’s children. When Haider insists that he will not let this happen, I found it odd for Hassan had signed off on everything and how could he put a stop to this. But as he says to Junaid later that if he does not tell them – they would never know. Hmm.

Meanwhile, Zaina and Hamza are playing ‘lurrve-lurrve’ , blissfully unaware of how truly ‘connected’ they really are! Alia and her mum are planning the next phase in their Haider Control Plan – nothing new there. If I breathed a sigh of relief that Minahil will not turn into the obsessive, scheming rejected girl tau another one in the form of Hamza’s ‘fraand’ Areeba shows up. Sigh.

Saman (Huma Nawab) – I do not know why I feel compelled to explain in each review that Saman is Huma Nawab (or Huma Nawab is Saman?) . Probably because nobody really talks to Saman and she ‘bhatkofies’ here and there adding nothing substantial to anyone’s life. When she says to Junaid upon learning Hassan’s secret how we really do not anyone then and then asks which meeting he is going to I snorted with laughter at Junaid’s stupidity – really?! Why would he tell Saman such a thing?! But yayy good for Saman – she has two hobbies now. Constant shak on Junaid and how to get Minahil married off to Hamza! Aha Saman, life’s not so boring now, eh?

Surprisingly what is the most (only?) appealing part of this drama is the Mehr-Saima track. I know Saima has a filmy touch and I do prefer Samina Peerzada but I believe both women are powerful actresses and I felt their emotions strongly in their meetings. When Saima rings Mehr to ask for financial help, the way she spoke, the way Mehr replied and listened without the extra dramatic uffs and eye rolling and her hand flew to her neck – it brought tears to my eyes. Especially when Saima threw in the ‘mum’ card and I felt a lump in my throat. I thought of my own munchkins then and marvelled at how being a mother you do not want to see your children suffer in the slightest – or anyone else’s. Yeah yeah, I know it is only a drama so I will stop with the senti-bit but still! I am all for love stories and young couples but strangely this extra focus on the two ‘older’ wives and the different approach is working for me – for now.

It seems quite obvious that now Haider will do whatever he can to make sure Saima and her children do not get any financial help. Mehr has been shown to be soft from the beginning and believes they are not the gold diggers Haider makes them out to be so I suppose she will try to intervene for them. It is interesting how everyone’s emotions are different – Haider’s hatred towards Saima and her children, Mehr blaming Hassan more than she blames Saima, Zaina’s anger at Hassan and his other family. What did tug at my heart was in an earlier episode when Mehr reads a card Saima’s son sends to Hassan – how hard it must be to know you have a ‘father’ and not being able to reach out to him.

I thought Judai had nothing new to offer and in a way it does seem that the story will flow in a particular predictable way but I like it so far. I watched it weekly and was frustrated with the pace but then that was also due to how Hassan dragged out the ‘secret’. I watched these three episodes in one day and am interested to see what happens next.

Oh, so I finally learnt that Imran Aslam’s character’s name is Zaryan. When Saima rings Mehr she says ________ bol rahi hoon. Now I think she said Gaiti but I was not sure so I deliberately stuck to referring to her as Saima in this review but would love if someone could tell me if that is what she said?

How many of you have been following Judai and watched these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Judai – Episode 5

Right. So the cat is out of the bag, except this cat brought two kittens along with it too! As we all suspected, Saima was also Hassan’s wife. This episode was about Mehr slowly returning to life after Hassan’s death and then like a treasure hunt, stumbling upon clue after clue which finally landed her at Saima’s doorstep. Ouch!

The episode begins with Alia and Haider (and the annoying crickets that seem to accompany Haider everywhere!) chatting in their bedroom. Alia really wants to go on a honeymoon and feels Haider has immersed himself too deep into the office affairs and should take a break. It was nice to see Haider concerned about his mother for in the earlier episodes I was given the impression that he was quite short with Mehr. In the scene where Alia tells Minahil off in front of Mehr, I did think Minahil was a bit out of order by saying it is too soon for Alia and Haider to go anywhere as she is not really a part of their family. But then Alia is also all about making changes in her susraal and her life the way she deems fit and is not willing to accept any changes to accommodate them.

PIC1

I liked the scene between Haider and Mehr in the garden. It was nice to see Mehr as the level headed woman she is and not create a saas bahu issue out of Alia wanting to go on a honeymoon. I mentioned earlier as well that I feel bad for Mehr since it seems the only two ‘friends’ she has are Saman and Alia’s mum (if you don’t count Minahil). Whether I feel Alia and Haider should have left for their honeymoon now or not is a separate issue but I really did not care for how Saman was going on about it to Mehr. I really do not like Saman’s character – there is nothing positive about her!

So I know Alia said Mehr needed to keep herself busy and have a hobby but I am pretty sure super sleuthing is not what she had in mind! When Mehr eyes the letters addressed to Hasan it was obvious that she was about to open Pandora’s box. The expressions of curiosity, confusion, distress were all portrayed by Samina Peerzada so well! I loved how there was no wailing, no collapsing and oh my God no throwing things around. I don’t know why but that always bothers me- the throwing and breaking of things in dramas and movies. I keep thinking, ab itna tor phor kar kay khud he saaf karna ho ga but here I had to remind myself keh I am sure maasi hai! However, back to Samina Peerzada, I loved how she portrayed a dignified woman who knew her world was collapsing around her and the confusion on her face when she went to Junaid’s house and spoke to Saman showed how she was barely just holding on to her composure.

PIC2

I found it odd how she zeroed in on the files in Junaid’s house and knew to go through them unless she had bionic eyes and saw ‘Hassan’ from afar. But I suppose in her quest to know more and since it was paper that was doing all the talking (Hasan and Junaid surely hadn’t!) maybe she thought she would find some clue. Apparently she did as she ends up at Saima’s doorstep. I have to admit I was waiting for that scene and I was not disappointed. I know Saima is all filmy and I have never watched any of her films but I watched her in Kaneez and Rang Laaga and although a bit dramatic I do think she is a good actress. Having said that, I understand she is portraying a woman here who is not quite herself but the messy hair was a bit distracting especially as I was trying to find Saima’s face behind all the strands hanging in front of it! And Samina Peerzada is easily one of my favourite actresses. From being a woman struggling to come back to life, to a woman making a shocking discovery and then to the indignant woman who confronts Saima – she was flawless.

PIC3

I never thought I would say this but I actually liked Faryal Mehmood today. I find her acting very annoying in the other dramas I have seen her in and even earlier in Judai when she was smiling dreamingly at Hamza but today I liked how she actually seemed ‘normal’! I also liked the chemistry between her and Samina Peerzada, something I did not think I would notice. Hamza and Zaina were absent from today’s episode – probably a big exam coming up for which Zaina was tutoring Hamza (tongue in cheek). I can not say I missed them and am actually glad that they were not thrown in just for the sake of it as today was all about Mehr’s final discovery of Saima for I would have also lost my mind if the episode had ended without telling us how exactly Saima is related to Hasan!

I can not believe how Junaid had left Hasan’s private file so easily on the table knowing what a super nosy woman his wife is. Actually, I noticed that everyone in today’s episode was super attentive and sleuth-ish. Haider with his ‘did Alia say something to you’ line to his mother when she mentioned the honeymoon and then when he asked Alia if something had happened between her and Minahil. Mehr’s super sleuthing where she discovers a box on top of the wardrobe of their bedroom which she had surprisingly never come across in all those years of marriage, how she zeroes in on the file on Junaid’s table and ends up in Lahore! I felt like I was being left behind in this group of sleuths and needed to hone up my detective skills too and not miss anything and almost jumped up and exclaimed ‘I knew it!’ even before Saima finished uttering her ‘woh meray shohar hain’. There!

Jokes aside, I quite liked today’s episode. I know they dragged out the whole Hasan secret in the earlier ones and I would have preferred to find out aaj he how Saima became his wife but watching Mehr make the discovery – I was not bored. Next week’s preview showed Saima sharing her story with Mehr. How did you find today’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Judai – Episode 4

So this episode saw the demise of Hassan which obviously did not come as a surprise as previews from two weeks ago had given us enough time to brace ourselves for his death (sarcasm). Hassan felt his end was near – maybe he had seen the previews too? Jokes aside, maybe the heart attack has scared him but we see he is working himself into a frenzy and is adamant he must have his ‘affairs’ sorted as soon as possible – affairs that apparently only his trusted friend Junaid is privy to.

Mehru wakes the next morning to find Hassan has passed away in his sleep. Samina Peerzada is no doubt an amazing actress and her expressions from confusion to awareness that something is not quite right and then her distress made me all teary, especially when she lays her head on her dead husband’s chest at the end. However, the whole scene gave me goosebumps as well, not only because of Samina Peerzada’s powerful acting but because he is her husband in real life and for a while there I was not able to really distinguish between the characters they are playing from their actual relationship.

I felt sad for Mehru that the only women who seem to be around her are Alia’s mother and Saman (Minahil’s mother). What a sorry pair! Alia’s mothers comments made me cringe. At this point, I find Alia’s character a bit confusing. She is a little short with Mehru and self obsessed but maybe on her own she would not be so bad if she did not pay so much heed to her mother’s ‘priceless’ words of wisdom. She does however seem to love Haider and seemed to feel his grief when she talked to him after his father’s death. Not sure right now what and how important a role Alia plays in the whole picture.

Anyhow, Junaid stands at his dead friend’s grave talking about the ‘secret’ and not having enough ‘himmat’ to tell Mehru all. I really want to say aray bhayee, na Hassan ko himmat thee na Junaid ko, please mujhay bata do mujh mein himmat hai Mehru ko bataanay ki- bas ab bata do keh raaz kia hai?! When I was watching the episode I thought I would finally write in my review that the cat is out of the bag and in my mind I had an image of Saima Noor being the cat poking its head out of the bag! Ah, but Saima did not make an appearance in today’s episode. Maybe her temporary dementia has caught on and the director forgot about her. Oh well.

Hamza, in his grief reaches out to Zaina who ‘is there for him’. Two months lapse and apparently Junaid is still gathering himmat (sigh) to tell Mehru anything. I say that because Mehru is slowly recovering from the shock of her husband’s death and does not seem to be dealing with any dark secrets. Hamza goes back to university and we see he and Zaina have become close. Bhai (I should just refer to him as Imran Aslam until someone calls him by his name) spots Zaina in a car with Hamza and asks her about it. I liked how he did not yell at Zaina or threaten her etc but also made it clear that he does not approve.

Samina Peerzada’s acting was probably the best part of today’s episode. Everyone else is doing their bit but besides the annoying crickets sound that plays in Khalid Malik and Sana Askari’s scenes, nothing else about anyone’s acting stands out just yet. Affan Waheed is getting a bit too comfortable with the same old ultra sensitive, voice cracking with emotion roles and couple that with Neelum Munir’s deep voice makes you want to throw in a bit of Sanam Choudhary’s characteristic shrieks to pull up the pair’s vocal chords a bit and not put you to sleep!! I would like to have seen a bit more of Imran Aslam though. It is obvious that Hassan’s secret is linked to Saima’s family but I suppose there will be more of her and Imran Aslam later.

Overall, the episode was not bad. I am losing patience with the ‘secret’ being dragged out and would prefer Alia and her mother to be sidelined a bit and see more of Saima so the story can progress. At this point, there are so many conspiracy theories running through my head about how Saima is linked to Hassan that it is almost giving me a headache. I did not get to see the preview of next week’s episode as I watched this episode online and could not find the link. I would love to hear your thoughts on this episode!

Judai – Episode 3

So this episode had us wondering throughout and then ended leaving us still guessing – what is Hassan’s secret? He is adamant to tell Mehru ‘everything’ even though Junaid discourages him to do so.

Ah, but let me not digress from a much more pressing issue first – Alia ko susraal mein rehna chahyay tha ya phir Ami kay ghar? And the sinister music (punctuated strangely by the sound of crickets chirping!!) in the background when Haider rings Alia and then when he goes to her mother’s house suggests Alia should have stayed put in her susraal. I feel this issue (if it really was an issue) could have gone either way and should have been fine. I honestly did not get what the big deal was but then I do realize that things like these do become bones of contention in our society. She could have chosen to stay and joined the patrol at the hospital because yes she was now part of the ‘Hassans’ but then everyone was at the hospital and what was she to do alone in a new home about which she knew nothing of (as she had not even spent one night fully there). If she was staying at her parent’s house then at least the Hassans did not need to worry about her. Plus she was in the same city. However, the way her mother controls the situation and would not let her directly answer her husband was out of line and also the fact that Alia did not go visit her father in law at the hospital after the first night was a bit odd.

Anyhow, moving on, when Hamza rings Zaina from the hospital and the way Zaina hesitates to answer Hamza’s phone shows us that she wants to keep a distance but at the same time is interested in Hamza and ends up answering the call. Alishba’s outburst was out of line but I suppose will contribute to Zaina giving Hamza the cold shoulder for a while.

Saima (I still do not know the name of her character) seems to be quite lost. It appears that she zones in and out of the world and also takes medication to help with her ‘condition’. I really found the scene between her and Imran Aslam very touching. I liked his conversation with Zaina earlier when he tells her he does not allow hatred and bitterness to engulf his being and says she should not either. He appears to be sensible and I feel he is perfect for his role. The flitting dementia that seems to affect Saima and her not knowing whether she ate or not resulting in her son saying he would feed her with his own hands so he would know she ate was a bit filmy and dramatic I know but still it brought a lump in my throat as they both looked so convincing as mother and son, with the OST playing beautifully in the background.

Hamza, with his constant need to express gratitude of dosti and confide in Minahil about his love, and then Saman’s constant brain washing has Minahil’s head floating in the clouds. Uff how annoying is Saman (Huma Nawab). Waisay ever since Huma Nawab has made a comeback in dramas I just do not like the roles she has been portraying and her acting in general. Khair, Saman really needs a hobby and no, I do not mean matchmaking for her Minahil!

Hassan tries to tell Mehru all but gets interrupted. The scene between Mehru and Hassan was very sweet and natural. He feels his end is near and wants to make sure she has no grievances against him. Waisay kia hai that he needs to tell Mehru? I could almost physically feel the burden on his chest! We get he wants to tell her something but what is it that it is being dragged out so much? I felt like saying bhai, Mehru ko baad mein batatay rehna magar pls ab pehlay mujhay bata do! Spit it out already!

Overall, the episode was alright. I suppose we are all being given further insight into the characters and their personalities. I do like Affan Waheed normally but his hey what’s up roles are getting a bit monotonous. Again, as I mentioned in one of my other reviews, the pairing of actors seems a bit awkward sometimes as in Bheegi Palkein (A Plus), Affan Waheed and Faryal Mehmood are siblings and here Faryal Mehmood is falling (fallen?) in love with him. Is there no way, my layman mind wonders, that actors/actresses can somehow not commit to projects that are aired at the same time.

Last week, the preview we saw for this episode was misleading as it showed the demise of Hassan but even though it seems his end is near, he was still alive when the episode ended. Samina Peerzada is a delight to watch and I love her in this avatar. The senior actors, especially Usman and Samina Peerzada seem to be stealing the show and although Khalid Malik, Sana Askari, Affan Waheed, Neelum Munir and Faryal Mehmood seem to be doing their bit, nothing about their acting or characters stand out yet. Maybe it is too early to judge. I am waiting to find out what Hassan is hiding and looking forward to the scenes between Samina Peerzada and Saima, both being wonderful actresses in my opinion. I loved all the theories brought up in the comments on my last review – but this episode has left me none the wiser! How did you find this episode and the drama so far? Please do share your thoughts!

Judai – Episode 13

I quite like the pace at which this drama is moving along now. Seeing that Zaryan and Zaina left all their clothes and belongings in their old home, Mehr takes it upon herself to get them some basic necessities. I liked how she did not try to persuade or push Zaina to accompany her. It was very heartfelt and genuine the way she said itna tau haq do mujhay but I did wonder – haq based on what? Is it because Mehr genuinely wants to help them so she wants Zaina to start trusting her? Probably. It just seemed awkward given that Zaina clearly resents Mehr – she does not feel obliged in the least to give her any sort of control or rights – but the very real truth now is that only Mehr can help Zaryan and Zaina at this point of their lives.

I had earlier mentioned how Zaina was being a bit of a brat and I thought that initially too until I remembered the scene in an earlier episode where Zaina is looking at the boxes of unopened presents she received from Hassan over the years on her birthdays but never opened. Although we know and understand Mehr is not at all at fault here and in fact is being extremely compassionate but Zaina was very little when Hasan came (rather came and disappeared) into their lives. And I suppose everyone deals with insecurities and feelings differently. Whereas Zaryan truly appreciates what Mehr is putting at stake by helping them, Zaina feels she is only trying to ease a guilty conscience.

People close to us do have quite an impact on the way our thoughts develop but seems like Hamza and Haider lack brains of their own and need Alia and Minahil to do all their thinking! If only they let Mehr do their thinking for them instead! Haider is convinced Mehr is wrong to reach out to Zaryan and Zaina whereas Hamza is willing to hear his mother out and then sort things as a ‘family’.

Selfieeeeeeeeeeee. Haha. Minahil and Hamza’s selfie has made its way to Zaina’s eyes and she feels heartbroken that Hamza had been playing her all along. Convinced Lahore ‘mein kuch nahin rakha’ she agrees to go to Karachi with Mehr. Did anyone else find Saman Aunty’s outburst when Junaid tells her Mehr is bringing Zaryan and Zaina to Karachi hilarious? I mean, like what does she care?! Itna outrage over Mehr’s decision – how does it affect her?! Haider and Hamza dono haath se nikal gaye hain, oh but wait. A thought just occurred to me. Zaryan and Minahil? Yes? Maybe? Especially Zaryan-after-getting-due-share-from-Hassan’s-inheritance- wala Zaryan? Saman Auntyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!! She has rubbed off on me now! Shoot me!

I found tears pricking the back of my eyes in the scene Mehr is expressing her feelings and fears while looking at the photo of her and Hassan. I also loved how she said she did not know how she has found the courage to do all this because it is so true that in the initial episodes she came across as a woman who is very warm but Hasan handled everything and she was very content for things to be that way.

PIC

Mehr ji is very nice, no doubt – but her taste in clothes was a bit disappointing. Zaina and Zaryan looked so awkward and out of place in their new clothes but maybe that was the whole impression that the director wanted to create or maybe I am overly feeling things here. I was so used to Zaina’s simple clothes and Zaryan’s hoodie that the black jacket and that frilly white thing Zaina had on really stood out for me. I would have loved to say that the scene where ‘everyone meets everyone’ was powerful but sadly it failed to make much of an impact. Hamza’s reaction surprised me. I do not know quite how to explain it. I expected more shock, concern, worry at the realization that Zaina is well, Zaina rather than a ‘oh no, why did I fall for her’ kind of reaction. What I did love about that scene though was how Mehr raises her hand to stop Haider in his tracks and declares yeh ghar mera hai and she will decide who stays and who does not.

Each episode Samina Peerzada gives a performance that has me riveted to the screen. I love Mehr’s character – such a breath of fresh air. Such characters are rare, I agree but maybe they do exist. I do wonder though how she will deal with her own sons who are clearly not thrilled at the thought of Zaryan and Zaina living under the same roof. I understand wanting to do right by Z and Z but not at the expense of ostracizing herself from her very own sons. I am so not looking forward to Haider having a go at Zaryan which by the looks of that scene, may happen more than once.

Will Hamza or Zaina disclose to Mehr that they know each other from university? Or will the internet miraculously and finally begin to work again and Alia will make the discovery herself? Shudder!

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

JPNA2 Releases Its Unique Version Of Aya Lariye!

Aya Lariye is a traditional wedding song which has been played for years at Pakistani weddings. Coke Studio previously did a rendition of it where Meesha Shafi and Nadeem Abbas Rufi performed it. JPNA 2 has also used a rendition of Aya Lariye and they are calling it the “biggest wedding song of the year”. Nadeem Abbas Rufi, Shuja Haider and Aima Baig have rendered their voices for the song while music is also by Shuja Haider. Fahad Mustafa and Mawra Hocane have performed in the song and Mawra’s overall look is similar to that of Sohai’s from JPNA 1. Here watch the song:

Aya Lariye is not really impressive as the desi element is seriously missing from the song. With all the major films having wedding songs this year, looks like Load Wedding has won the wedding song war at least. Let’s wait and see which movie performs better at the box office!

JPNA2 Is Ruling The Box Office!

This Eid there were a lot of anticipations as for the three big film released for the audience. All three Parwaaz Hai Junoon, Load Wedding and JPNA 2 had fans waiting anxiously for them and the question was which one of these will come out victorious at the box office. The answer is here and JPNA 2 has done the most business, though the other two films have also done well. JPNA 2 as done a gross box office collection of nearly 16 crores in 4 days which is a huge number. The film also made a record for the fastest 10 crores.

JPNA2 Is Ruling The Box Office!

Parwaaz Hai Junnon also did business with Junoon as it collected about 12 crores in 4 days. People are looking impressed with Hamza’s return to the silver  screen:

JPNA2 Is Ruling The Box Office!

Load Wedding got limited screens due to the other two films having a huge ensemble cast but still managed to earn over 6 crores which are a good amount in given circumstances:

Teefa in Trouble has also crossed 40 crores and has held well in the presence of biggies. Eid ul Adha has really been big for the Pakistani box office!

JPNA 2 To Feature Bollywood Actors

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 has to be one of the most anticipated movies in Pakistani film industry right now. It’s predecessor bore well on box office and paved way for a sequel through it’s success.

Just like it’s predecessor JPNA 2 is heavily star studded and to add more to the flavor the film will be featuring actors from across the border as well.

Bollywood actor Kanwaljit Singh will be making an appearance in JPNA2, essaying the role of Kubra Khan’s father.

JPNA 2 To Feature Bollywood Actors

You might have seen him before in Pak-Indo venture titled Virsa back in 2010.

Kanwaljit Singh won’t be the only Indian actor starring in the film. Andaz Apna Apna actor Shehzad Khan is also part of the star-studded JPNA2

JPNA 2 To Feature Bollywood Actors

The details about his role in the film haven’t been revealed yet.

The film is slated to release this year on Eid ul Azha and we wish the team all the luck.

Have anything to add?

JPNA 2 Crosses 70 Crore On Global Box Office

Pakistani cinema started from dust and has been progressing day by day with more and more movies coming out each year and many more people getting into the business seriously. Joyland Gets Into Major Controversy Before Release

0

Pakistani film industry has revived and we have watched very different content coming out of the cinema this year. Kamli for example was a very women centric film with Saba Qamar in the lead ad it did really well on the box office considering its niche market. Otherwise masala films like London Nahi Jaunga and Quaid e Azam Zindabad also earned enough to turn into block busters. And right now The Legend of Maula Jatt is reigning supreme. Among all these releases the film Joyland which won big awards at the Cannes film festival and was the first project from Pakistan to ear such accolades was set to release in cinemas.

Joyland Gets Into Major Controversy Before Release

Joyland was slated to release on 18th November in Pakistan. It was cleared by the censor board at first and the team was busy in promotions.
