Nadia Jamil is one of a kind. Calling herself by the name Nadia Jamil Lahori, a proud paindoo on her social media handles, she is a fighter, a survivor and a helper. She is an actress, a mother, a teacher, a social activist and a support worker for various causes across Pakistan.

In the wake of recent riots that resulted after the brutal rape and murder of a seven year old that brought to light eleven such incidents that had happened earlier, Nadia shared her own story. As a victim of child molestation, she stands strong and gives hope and confidence to other survivors and their families. She is also actively actively involved in finding help,support and resources for Mehreen Bhutto and Kainat Batool, two little girls who have survived the ordeal of rape and abuse, but have a long way ahead of them for recovery.

Allayyar and the legend of Markhor is an upcoming Pakistani animated film. The film focuses on the story of a child and his animal friends on an adventure to save the nature and wildlife. Usually seen essaying unconventional roles, a source revealed that the versatile actor Gohar Rasheed will be next seen in the upcoming Maula Jatt. Under Bilal Lashari’s direction, the remake of Sultan Rahi’s classic will feature Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick. Gohar is the reportedly the latest addition to the cast of the much-awaited film.

Gohar has earlier played Zia-ul-Haq in Anwar Maqsood’s plays and was also seen as Duke in Moulin Rouge. Coming from theatre, it comes as no surprise that he is one to have pulled off exemplary roles.

On January 11, Karachi Film Society (KFS) hosted a press conference to announce the first Pakistani International Film Festival (PiFF), which is set to be held in late March.

The four-day festival, from March 29 to April 1, 2018, will gather established and emerging film-makers and contain a series of workshops and film screenings.

KFS president Sultana Siddiqui and members, such as former Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Ishrat Hussain, CEO Oxford University Press Ameena Saiyid, writer and producer Javed Jabbar, CEO Habib Metropolitan Bank Sirajuddin Aziz, CEO Nueplex Cinemas Jamil Baig, chairperson Special Olympics Pakistan Ronak Lakhani and Oscar-winning film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy were present at the press conference and talked about PiFF and what it would accomplish for the Pakistani cinema industry.

Obaid-Chinoy revealed that not only was this the launch of PiFF, but also the parent-body KFS itself. She spoke of KFS as an important initiative to create and support a film fraternity.

“It should bring together young film-makers and improve their know-how of the technical side of film-making. It’s also helpful for established film-makers.”

Director PiFF Abrarul Hasan explained the schedule of the festival, which will consist of feature length films, documentaries and short films, as well as seminars and workshops on topics such as film as a medium of social change. He also mentioned they have received film submissions from 43 countries, and that more information will be available on the festival’s website after January 31, 2018.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital has been providing cancer treatments to the afflicted for many years and a lot of its resources come from the donations and fundraising campaigns.The team are now arranging a fundraising gala and dinner with Imran Khan in Dubai later this month and two of our very beautiful actresses are joining him to generate funds for cancer patients that are increasing in number everyday.

Rehan Sheikh’s star studded movie Azad is now set to release on the ninth of February of this month. The movie was first thought to appear in cinema screens in 2017 but got delayed.

The news has hit the nation and people are demanding justice for Zainab at least on social media. Celebrities are people whose voices are heard and many of our celebrities demanded justice for the little angel. Indian-American actor-comedian Aziz Ansari has won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Master of None at the 75th Golden Globe Awards.

Ansari said in his acceptance speech at the gala on Sunday night,

“I genuinely didn’t think I’d win because all the websites said I was going to lose. Also, I am glad we won this one because it would have really sucked to lose two of these in a row,”

Ansari quipped before thanking the cast and crew of Master of None, his parents and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“The only reason my acting is good in that show is because everyone else holds me up,”

On the Netflix original series, Ansari not only stars as Dev Shah, the pasta-loving, cupcake show host, but also serves as co-creator, writer, and director.

This is Ansari’s second Golden Globe nomination and first win. He was previously nominated for in 2016 also for Master of None.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, to a Muslim family from Tamil Nadu, Ansari started his career as a stand-up comedian and acted on television in the comedy series Parks and Recreation.

He then created the Master of None, based on his personal experiences.

Earlier this week on 4th of January 2018 the legendary queen of spices renowned as Zubaida Apa breathed her last in Karachi, she was not only celebrated as a master chef but she was also a household name given her expertise in all household matters commonly compiled and known as ‘Zubaida Apa Ke Totkay’.

Many showbiz personalities, especially female stars who considered Zubaida Apa an important stronghold for Pakistani women, expressed their condolences on the occasion of her demise.

Stage, TV and film artist Shiba Butt stated,

“Not only did we learn how to cook from Zubaida Apa but we also learnt how to dress. I was always impressed by her dressing sense and her evergreen beauty,”

She continued,

“She came from a well-educated family and was a really intelligent lady. I met her in Karachi and was very fascinated! Apa ran a restaurant in Clifton which is always full of various artists, fans and food lovers due to their adoration for her as a chef and showbiz personality. Her death is a big loss for all of us.”

Singer Humera Arshad expressed,

“Zubaida Apa was a celebrity for the general public, especially the female population in Pakistan. Most have known of her since their childhood days and many have learnt to cook from her. Due to her personality, she was very popular. She started her TV career in her 50s and continued working until her 70s,” 

She continued,

“I wish I had kept a journal of her totkay so I could use them to recreate the delicious food. Her death came as a very unpleasant surprise to many, including me.”

Renowned actor Meera went on to express her admiration for the cooking expert too.

“Everyone loved Zubaida Apa. Although there have been many other TV personalities and cooking shows and we have new talent within the industry, no one can be like her.”

The actor added,

“Apa was a beautiful soul and a very good human being. Everyone sort of considered her their family member and paid a lot of attention to her totkay. It is a real shame that she has left us. But this is life and I understand that everyone has to leave one day. I pray for her and will miss her forever.”

Mahira Khan also took to her twitter and said, “Known her since I was a little girl, she was all heart always, Rest In Peace Zubaida Khala.”

The Embassy of India in Armenia organises annual Festival of Indian films during which most popular and award-winning Indian movies of that year are screened in Armenia’s – Moscow Cinema.

This year the Embassy was offered a list of films and Mom, a drama thriller, was chosen to be screened among other two films including Bahubali 2: The Conclusion and Hindi Medium.

Directed by Ravi Udyawar, ‘Mom’ follows the story of a mother who avenges a crime committed against her step-daughter. Sridevi’s producer-husband – Boney Kapoor said that the film’s story resonates with the people across the globe. In a statement he said,

“We are so very proud about how the movie continues to connect with the audience all over, especially Russia and now Armenia. Mom exemplifies that strong performances and superior storytelling can win hearts and transcend boundaries,”

The film was also released in countries like the UK, US, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
