Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 30 – Review!

Ohkay so, I don’t know after how many weeks I found a few bits & bobs interesting in this episode but yes, those were all related to the original characters because my mind still hasn’t been able to comprehend the reasons why the newer lot was introduced. Yes, on the whole the drama has derailed but after weeks, I found myself getting interested in the future of a few characters but still the drama in general has lost the charm & is not working anymore!

First & foremost, I loved the conversation Shahzeb had with his mother. It was almost as if those were Baba Jee’s thoughts that were being voiced by Shahzeb. Baba Jee has left a great influence on Shahzeb & that is why he not only gracefully accepted everything that happened, he moved on & grew out of his love for Nazneen peacefully too.

Even though Basit emerged as a coward, a loser but still what happened between him & Nazneen was something that I didn’t see coming. Basit always said that the intensity of Nazneen’s love for him scared him & once again, he said the same thing & used it against her but then, now when he lost his parents & eventually betrayed Shahzeb’s trust, there was no need to dwell so much into the guilt that he decided to part ways with Nazneen. Once again, another curse was fulfilled & this time it was the one that came from Zaitoon Bano where she told Nazneen that she won’t get her fair share of happiness after ruining Shahzeb’s life. Even though Nazneen will return to her parents’ place, I am keen to see how Basit will pick up the pieces & what he will do with his life?

Suddenly, Shaheer’s mother has started taking interest in her son’s life & there is absolutely nothing that sparks interest about this love triangle. Zimmal is not into Shaheer & I think not into Arsalan too, may be she will fall for Basit after learning what he has been through, after learning about his reasons?

Reena had a daughter & even though everyone was trying to show her the real picture, I cringed how casually the word ‘tawaif’ was being used for a newborn, euuu!!! Anyways, Nawazish’s wife got such an insider news that Reena was expecting a child, so it is unrealistic that she didn’t find out who fathered the baby? Weird!

I think 30 episodes were more than enough for this story to get a proper closure but they have ruined it by dragging things from last 10 episodes. It is also highly unlikely that the drama is nearing the end, which makes us question the purpose of the story again & again! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan!

Khaani Episode 2 Review – Slow & Tragic

Khaani Episode 2 Review - Slow & Tragic

So the aftermath of all that happened at the end of last episode is worrisome on all sides. In Sarim’a house, the chaos was obvious, as his parents and sisters tried to come to terms with his untimely and very brutal death. Needless to say, the grief shown by all actors individually and as a family was so real it was almost palpable. Almost the whole episode was dedicated to the condition of parents and siblings of a child murdered in cold blood like this.

In the Mir household, family members are equally taut with worry but of a different kind. Sitara was acting on her motherly instincts and wanted her child out as soon as possible, but Mir is trying to play it slow and steady. He wants to make sure this action of his son’s does not affect his prospects for the next elections. Saman Ansari gives beautiful expressions. No matter how many dramas you see of her, the lady does not fail to impress with her finesse and totally natural acting skills.

Khaani Episode 2 Review - Slow & Tragic

Nothing much happened in the story form today as it was just sadness and disbelief from Sarim’s family and arrogance and self serving interests in the Mir’s. Khaani is slowly realising that she needs to grow up and take the world head on. Her twin brother who was more like a shelter to her is no more and that has made her realise her role in the family.

Mir Hadi is not at all remorseful at everything he has done. If anything, he is more arrogant after becoming a murderer. Feroze Khan is slightly over acting here, especially when compared with others in the play. His father has started dropping subtle hints and pressurising the victim’s parents to agree to forgive Hadi. Then they become quiet threats like defaming their late son and pointing fingers at their daughter’s character. Whether they succumb to the pressure or hold their own is yet to be seen. The promo shows that Khaani will want revenge vehemently and nothing can stand in her way. Stay tuned for next episode..

Mujhe Jeenay Du Episode 10 Review – Impeccable!

The story took yet another highly unpredictable yet interesting turn with this episode. When this drama started I wasn’t expecting it to be so entertaining, right from the beginning it was apparent that Mujhe Jeenay Du would have tons of powerful messages but the fact that it is so entertaining as well gives it an added advantage. Mujhe Jeenay Du has to be the most underrated dramas of this season and definitely one which is a must-watch for many reasons. The story has been logical right from the get-go and it has variety of characters as well as a solid screenplay and plot. The entire team of the play has put in a great amount of effort into presenting a realistic picture of how easily children are exploited by people who claim to love them and Naseeb’s character shows that even those people who don’t want to be a part of such scenarios are dragged into it and ultimately end up being extremely unjust.

Mujhe Jeenay Du Episode 10 Review - Impeccable!

Shaheena’s decision tonight came as a total surprise but this entire development was shown so convincingly. Even though Shaheena has been in a very vulnerable position herself but now that she has a chance to have a better life she does not want to think about how this decision might effect Saira. She knows only too well that Naseeb loves her and will give her the kind of life she always dreamed of therefore she went to his house right after her iddat to tell him that she was willing to marry him without any terms and conditions. Even though Yasmin has always been there for her but right from the beginning Shaheena has been shown as someone who has a mind of her own. She has also been shown as a confident and practical woman and mostly insensitive as well therefore her actions were completely in line with her personality. Mehreen Raheel has outdone herself in this role; she is beyond impressive as Shaheena.

I truly appreciate the fact that in every single episode of this drama there is a great deal of focus on showing how difficult, in fact impossible, it is for Saira to take care of Tipu. She gets frustrated and is always clueless because she cannot cope. Saira’s conversation with Yasmin showed that she did not want this life and she was capable of being so much more than a “housewife”! Saira is too young to take a stand for herself and there is so much pressure on her therefore she doesn’t have a choice but to continue doing what she is expected to do. She doesn’t know what it means to be married and she has no clue what her “husband” is planning but unfortunately things are going to take a turn for the worse in the upcoming episodes. Murad and Saira’s father’s reaction was also shown on screen realistically. While everyone else in this drama is looking after their own interests, Yasmin is the only person who looks out for Saira’s interests continuously with dedication. Yasmin has problems of her own and her life isn’t perfect but even then she is constantly dedicating her time to help others who are definitely in a much more difficult situation. Yasmin’s character is inspiring and Nadia Jamil is doing complete justice to it. She chose the perfect drama to make a comeback with.

The preview of the next episode showed how Shaheena will change once she gets married to Naseeb. The developments leading to the marriage were covered faultlessly in this episode. I am looking forward to watching how Saira’s personality develops under these circumstances and whether Yasmin is able to help her in some way or not. This had to be one of the best episodes of Mujhe Jeenay Du, the latest developments in the story were surprising and interesting. It also had some amazing performances to its credit.

Aangan Episode 1 Review – Family Drama!

Ohkay so, the production Six Sigma Plus, writing of Faiza Iftikhar & direction of Qasim Ali Mureed; Aangan commenced on Saturday & the first episode was an instant hit. Since Aangan’s story is based on how a family unit runs & operates, it gave me enough reasons to connect to the characters immediately because everything about it starting from family dynamics to politics was based on reality & all of it was so relatable. The first episode focused more on the introduction of all the characters & their relationships with each other & there was so much to love about it. Aangan seriously gave me Manchalay vibes & reminded me of those days when I used to watch it with my family as it was a family favorite & I am sure this is what Aangan is going to be all about as well, as it is a family drama that is actually based on a family drama, if I’m being clear about it. :)

So, we got introduced to a big family living under 1 roof, comprising of parents – the father (Qavi Khan), the mother Zaitoon Bano (Samina Ahmed), their 3 married sons & 1 unmarried daughter. 1 of the 4 sons lives in Germany & 1 married daughter & her husband reside in Lahore too.

So, the focal point in this family was Zoya’s (Mansha Pasha) marriage & the fact that Zoya comes from a joint family was what impressed her prospect mother in law the most. It was intelligently shown that from the surface, everything seemed perfect & they all looked like 1 happy family but when magnified, they were just ordinary people with some extraordinary problems that too with one another.

Aangan Episode 1 Review - Family Drama!

Hajra (Irsa Ghazal) being the eldest Bahu is supposed to pacify everyone after they have a conflict. Hajra’s husband Sajjad (Noor Ul Hassan) is the bread winner who has to take care of the major expenses. Then there is Laila (Iffat Omar), the second Bahu who is a bit too smart to knows how to victimize herself in order to get away with everything. Laila’s husband Asim (Hassan Ahmed) is the calm & composed son who is doing well for himself financially but is also under his wife’s influence as he only believes his wife’s side of the story. Then there is the third Bahu Rubina (Uzma Hassan) who sees herself as a victim because she has her own complexes & complains in regards to her husband. Rubina’s husband Zahid (Paras Masroor) believes in striving for the Afterlife & because of that he doesn’t pay much attention to the life he has to spend in this world & that turns out to be the bone of contention between him & Rubina.

Aangan Episode 1 Review - Family Drama!

So, now when the entire family had to come together to fix Zoya’s marriage & do their homework before finalizing everything, each & everyone came with their own baggage because all of them are interlinked with one another in a way that they just can not ignore & move one. This was the aspect that I enjoyed watching the most where all of them had issues with one another but also knew that they had no escape so the best they could do was fight about it & then move on.

Aangan Episode 1 Review - Family Drama!

In the middle of all this chaos, the one who remained unaffected was the father. I loved his approach where he would pass the verdict about everything with so much of finality & share his frustrations out loud but when he would be asked to showcase his authority, he would prefer staying in his room watching TV, haha. Even the father knows that he has no control over what goes around him so he only shares what he feels with his wife. I also loved how Zaitoon lied in front of everyone covering her husband’s laid back attitude as she still wants everyone to think of him as a head of the family. It was so realistic how even the sons knew about their father’s nature but chose to smile on their mother’s lies as they knew where she was coming from.

Zoya is the one who does most of the heavy-lifting as she has no other life than this. Zoya also knows that after marriage her life, her activities will remain the same, that is why she wasn’t really thrilled with the news of her marriage. Even though Zoya has lost hope & she really doesn’t think the marriage will bring anything new in her life, she knows she has to abide by what everyone will decide for her.

Aangan Episode 1 Review - Family Drama!

So, the married daughter Anila (Zainab Qayyum) & her husband Allauddin (Waseem Abbas) are the complainers of the family. They are the ones who love getting all the attention in the world & despite that, they would still complain. Even though they have their own lives, their own set up, they still believe that they run (read ruin) things in Zaitoon Bano’s house, that is why the news of their arrival sent a shock wave in Zaitoon’s home because everyone knew what they were getting into!

In this family, everyone wants everyone’s attention. Everyone feels the need to fight for the last bit of attention which would make them feel valued, that is why, even though Laila & Asim initally said they wouldn’t go to Zoya’s in laws, the moment Asim saw that Zahid wanted Rubina to be a part of the event, he spoke about Laila too.

I think the best part about this story is going to be the different perspective of all the different characters, like in this episode, everyone had his or her own perspective, where they even fought over certain things but no one seemed wrong because they all were right in their own place. I think this is what is going to make this drama quite interesting & entertaining because there would never come a time where they will all come to a common ground & that will create interesting scenarios.

Overall, I found the first episode to be perfect & intelligently written because to introduce so many characters while still making their personalities come through is not an easy feat but writer & the director seemed to have worked in harmony to make it so impactful. All the actors seemed to be in their element but I loved the performances of Qavi Khan, Paras Masroor, Uzma Hassan & Iffat Omar the most. It is good to see how all the actors have paid special attention to their get up because it spoke a lot about their background & gave us an insight into their personalities. The first episode has skyrocketed my expectations of this drama & I am sure everyone else is feeling the same way. Really looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Angan.

Cheers,

Ps: If anyone can tell me what the Father’s name was, I’d appreciate it.

Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua Episode 18 Review – Brilliant Direction

The relationship between most of the characters got even more complicated in tonight’s episode but the most interesting element of this play so far is that even after all these weeks some of the characters are still mysterious and all of them are extremely unpredictable. Although Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua is bold and unusual in more ways than one but the overall feel of this drama is such that it continues to hold my interest and every episode gives me a reason to look forward to more. After this episode, there is only one single woman in this play who hasn’t shown her interest in Faris, all the other women including Maya’s own sister have fallen for Faris one by one! Faris is a likeable man and has a charming personality but it would have been so much better if Lubna did not feel this attraction towards him. Although Siraj Uncle’s conversation with Lubna last week laid down the foundation for the turn this relationship took in this episode but even then watching another woman feeling that way about Faris was more comical than anything else! Although I like Lubna’s character and the manner in which it has been translated on screen a lot but if Faris also starts feeling something more for her, I would feel even more for Dariya since she deserved to be with Faris more than anyone else.

Zoya and Maya didn’t have any scenes together in this episode, I was looking forward to a conversation of some sort between these two after the developments in the previous episode and whatever happened in this episode as well. I have to say that Tipu’s character is turning out to be really interesting, the viewers have absolutely no idea what to expect from him. The way he insulted Zoya showed that he was more sure than ever now that Zoya loved Faris therefore there was no hope that she will ever feel that way about him therefore he showed his true colors. Tipu wants revenge now more than anything else, he clearly told Zoya that Maya will never be able to get married to Faris again but how will that help him? I am waiting to find out. Tipu had a new found confidence today, he has definitely thought everything through. It is however impossible to figure out what is going on in his mind.

Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua Episode 18 Review - Brilliant Direction

Lubna’s interactions with Faris and Siraj Uncle’s role in the entire situation reminds me of Dariya’s track. The change in Lubna’s personality in the past few episodes has been interesting and likeable. Although most of the characters in this play are unconventional but there are plenty of them which are likeable as well. Maya’s conversation with Lubna once again showed that Maya still thinks that she has the right to feel possessive about Faris. The preview of the next episode showed that after the kind of reaction she got from Lubna, she will turn to Saif for help. Maya will do anything to get married to Faris again perhaps because she is sure that even though he did not invite her back in his life, he still loves her!

Overall, this was another episode of Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua which was brilliantly directed; every single scene of this drama has been executed flawlessly from the background score to the locations, everything is right on point. Some of the developments in this episode did not work for me but I truly appreciate the brilliant performances by Imran Ashraf, Hajra Yamin, Ayeza Khan, Rehan Sheikh and Sami Khan in tonight’s episode. Their superb portrayals have definitely elevated the level of this drama.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Writers are responsible for etching out the characters in a drama, the directors help the actors breathe life into these characters by instructing them but what really matters the most in the end is the kind of performance which an actor gives. No matter how well written a character is, if an actor does not portray it properly on screen, it does not have the kind of impact which it should have. An actor has to live and breathe the role he or she has been assigned in order to do complete justice to them. Pakistani drama industry has a lot of actors who continue to impress the viewers with their outstanding performances all year through but there are always some performances which stand out more than others.

Here is a list of the most impressive performances of 2017.

Paras Masroor (Sang-e-Marmar)

For any actor to convey such a twisted character with so much of perfection is a very tough job but Paras Masroor made it seem effortless when he played the character of Torah Khan in Sang-e-Marmar. Conveying every minute expression and every thought that crossed through the character’s mind is what made his performance undeniably impressive. Paras Masroor through his flawless acting made the viewers sympathize with his character which to some extent was dark because he never let the viewers forget that he was a victim too.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Nauman Ejaz (Sang-e-Marmar)

Gulistan Khan went through an extreme transition in this drama and Nauman Ejaz portrayed it beautifully. Gulistan went from being arrogant to someone who now wanted to spend his entire life repenting for his sins and Nauman Ejaz played it beautifully. It is not an easy feat to make the viewers detest and then sympathize with the character but it was because of such a strong performance that Nauman Ejaz made it possible.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Sania Saeed (Sang-e-Marmar)

A helpless woman who despite dire circumstances, who despite being a victim of domestic abuse emerged stronger and irrespective of what life offered her, she never lost her sense of right or wrong and never ever became unjust in the matters that she had control over. Sania Saeed made us fall in love with her character and that phenomenal acting through which she portrayed this character won us over.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Uzma Hassan (Sang-e-Marmar)

Even though she was a very negative character, Uzma Hassan owned it and it was because of her convincing portrayal, that everyone detested Sherbano. Each and every shade of Sherbano’s character was elaborated on screen with perfection and we are sure that no one else, other than Uzma Hassan could’ve done that job so well!

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Kaif Ghaznavi (Sang-e-Marmar)

Negative character to the core who only schemed and plotted but in the end lost everything that she had was what Fari’s character was all about and Kaif Ghaznavi put her heart and soul into portraying it so realistically. We are still not over the lullaby that she sung for her stillborn child because it sent shivers down the spine and Kaif Ghaznavi deserves a special mention for this performance.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Hassan Noman (Sang e Marmar/Yakeen Ka Safar)

To perfectly portray a character like Bulbul Khan who was an opportunist but loyal to the core was something that Hassan Noman could do. He was totally in his element with that perfectly delivered Pushto accent and those expressions which showed that he was upto some mischief in every other scene made his character a treat to watch. Even though Bulbul Khan was a side character but Hassan Noman’s perfect treatment made him likable to the point where the viewers used to look forward to his scenes. In Yakeen Ka Safar, Hassan Noman once again is showcasing his caliber by portraying the role of a cold-hearted man who doesn’t mind doing anything for his boss and also assaults his wife. No matter which character he plays, he nails it!

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Imran Abbas (Khuda Aur Mohabbat)

To showcase the struggles of a man whose life changes completely after he falls in love is no easy feat but Imran Abbas not only breathed life and soul into Hammad’s character but made the viewers fall in love with him as well. All the phases that Hammad went through were showcased brilliantly by Imran Abbas and that is why Hammad’s character stayed with the viewers for a very long time.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Ushna Shah (Alif Allah Aur Insaan)

It won’t be an overstatement but for the first time in Ushna Shah’s career, she got the opportunity where she could showcase her talent, prove her mettle and show her caliber as an actress and Rani’s character did it all for Ushna. Before this drama, no one actually knew that Ushna Shah had this potential in her where she could turn herself into a character actor by realistically playing the role of a messy beggar as in all the previous dramas we had seen her in glamorous roles but with this character, Ushna Shah proved that if given the opportunity she can shine!

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Ehteshamuddin (Yakeen Ka Safar)

Ehteshamuddin played the role of a controlling husband who didn’t believe in giving his wife the respect she deserved because of his own complexes. Later, Khalil’s character goes through a transition where he not only realizes his mistakes but repents and this entire transition was impressively portrayed by Ehteshamuddin because when he was a tyrant husband, we loathed his character but later when he repented, we also felt for him. It was one convincing and perfect performance, therefore it deserves a spot in this list.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Imran Ashraf (Alif Allah Aur Insaan)

To play the role of a eunuch with such ease and effortlessness is something that only Imran Ashraf can do because he has proved himself to be one of the finest character actors that our industry has. Imran Ashraf made us fall in love with Shammo’s character, so much so that now when his character got compromised upon, the viewers were keen to see more of him.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Sana Fakhar (Alif Allah Aur Insaan)

Sana Fakhar really knows how to bring grace and elegance in her characters, that is why despite playing the role of a courtesan, Sana Fakhar never took it overboard and kept it within the realm of grace and elegance. Nigar Begum had so much to offer and till her character lasted, Sana Fakhar give it all and made Nigar Begum a memorable character through her brilliant performance.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Sajal Ali (O Rangreza and Yakeen Ka Safar)

This year, Sajal Ali outdid herself in both O Rangreza and Yakeen Ka Safar. Where she has played a subtle character of Dr. Zubiya in Yakeen Ka Safar to perfection, she has done complete justice to a boisterous character like Sassi as well by portraying it without any hesitations, restrictions and limitations. Sajal Ali has improved her choices a lot and that is why she seems to have enjoyed playing these characters which allowed her to perform with all her heart and soul.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Ahad Raza Mir (Yakeen Ka Safar)

From adolescent years of carefree life to be faced with such a heart-wrenching news of his brother’s murder and then picking himself up to dedicate his life to be able to serve his people through his own hospital, this is what Asfand Yar’s journey was all about and Ahad Raza Mir made sure to own each every shade of Asfand’s character. He most certainly made sure to portray that character flawlessly and that is why he has turned Dr. Asfand Yar’s character the talk of the town!

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Sarah Khan (Nazr e Bad/Yaar e Bewafa)

Sarah Khan has not only improved her acting but her drama choices as well, which is the reason why every single play of hers get a good number of viewership because she not only acts brilliantly but owns every single character that is assigned to her. The fact that Sarah Khan chose to go for a raw face in order to realistically portray Amna’s character in Yaar e Bewafa shows her dedication to her craft because it is not easy and something that even veteran actors don’t usually do. Only because of one such detail Sarah Khan has made Amna’s character easy to relate to because it showcases her struggles in a very different perspective. In Nazr e Bad, when the characters lost their personality, it was only Sarah Khan’s consistent and brilliant acting that kept the character of Maham likable.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Bilal Abbas Khan (O Rangreza)

Qasim’s character has so many shades to it. He is a man who knows the art of selfless love but just plays goofy because this is how his lady love feels comfortable around him. Bilal Abbas Khan has made sure to immaculately convey every single emotion that Qasim experiences and he has done that effortlessly, which is why the viewers are in awe of Qasim’s character and look forward to his bit in every single episode of O Rangreza.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Nauman Ijaz (Dumpukht)

Nauman Ijaz’s sheer brilliance as an actor and his commanding screen presence enables him to make every role he plays count. He played the role of Pir Habib Ullah in drama serial Dumpukht; a peer who is revered and admired by many but he exploits his position for personal gains. This was a challenging role which goes through different phases and this Pir had a different personality in public and in private but Nauman Ijaz brought out all the different shades of his character faultlessly on screen.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Saman Ansari (Dumpukht)

Saman Ansari has given some phenomenal performances this year but it was her brilliant acting in drama serial Dumpukht which won her a great deal of recognition and appreciation. Saman Ansari played the role of Bibi Sahiba’s character in Dumpukht – a woman who was strong, intelligent, elegant and completely in love! The fact that Bibi’s character wasn’t all white made it even more appealing. This wasn’t an easy character to translate on screen but Saman Ansari owned it completely. Her overall look, dialogue delivery and body language was not only in line with her character but also gave it a definite identity.

Mohsin Abbas Haider (Muqabil)

Mohsin Abbas Haider played the character of Arman in drama serial Muqabil. Arman’s character was etched-out brilliantly but it was Mohsin Abbas Haider’s flawless performance which gave this character the edge it needed. He made the viewers feel for and fall in love with Arman’s character over and over again. There were episodes in which you felt for Arman more than Parisa’s character.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Kubra Khan (Muqabil)

Parisa’s character wasn’t an easy one to translate on screen since she was a girl who was fighting a constant battle inside but was always very calm and cool on the outside. Parisa didn’t say a lot in many scenes but she had to convey her feelings through her body language and expressions. Kubra Khan outshone in this role and proved that even with her limited experience in the field of acting, she was indeed a very polished actress.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Asif Raza Mir (Muqabil)

Muqabil was a bleak yet powerful drama which could only work if it had equally powerful performances to back it up. Asif Raza Mir played a character different from any other he has played till date and he excelled in it without even trying too hard!! Even though the character itself wasn’t as well-etched-out as rest of the characters in the play but even then Asif Raza Mir‘s faultless performances accentuated the weaknesses and insecurities of his character.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Bilal Khan (Sammi)

Bilal Khan’s character and his performance was one of the best ones in drama serial Sammi. He played the role of Aalyan in the drama – the only person in a small village in Rahim Yaar Khan who was enlightened and humane and one who did not believe in watching people suffer in silence. Bilal Khan’s distinctive screen presence and his subtle performance made his character even more likeable and appealing. It was the kind of performance which made the viewers look forward to Aalyan’s scenes.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Sania Saeed (Sammi)

Sania Saeed is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors of our television industry. She continuously chooses to be part of projects which are completely different from each other. Her character went through a dynamic change after a tragedy and Sania Saeed translated different shades of her character brilliantly.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Most often some actors do not make it to such lists because we are so used to watching them deliver every single time in all the supporting roles they perform that we forget to appreciate them. Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Adnan Siddiqui (Sammi)

Adnan Siddiqui’s character in drama serial Sammi wasn’t an easy one to translate on screen because Rashid’s character always had an underlying goodness about him even when he was being shown as someone who did all of Chaudhry’s dirty work. Adnan Siddiqui’s makeover and his portrayal both were flawless throughout. It was great watching him play a different role and making his presence felt right from the first episode.

Most Impressive Performances Of 2017

Seemi Raheel played the role of Rashid’s mother who represented the slave mentality of people who cannot see just how misguided they are. Seemi Raheel breathed life into this character with a performance which was very natural and brilliant.

The characters she played in drama serials Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei and Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua both were complicated and multi-dimensional. Both these characters weren’t easy to translate on screen yet Ayeza Khan nailed them both. Maheen’s character development and the role in general wasn’t likeable most of the times but Ayeza Khan’s performance was always on point. Ahsan Khan And Sonya Hussyn Talk About “Aangan”

0

Now here’s a drama serial that’s been making headlines a lot lately, Aangan is a drama based on Khadija Mastoor’s pre-partition novel of the same title which will be directed by none other than the Udaari director Mohammad Ehtishamuddin. The cast will comprise of Ahsan Khan, Sonya Hussyn, Mawra Hocane, Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly, Omair Rana, Abid Ali, Zaib Rehman and Uzma Hassan among others.

Ahsan Khan And Sonya Hussyn Talk About "Aangan"

In a recent interview both Ahsan khan and Soniya Hussyn talked about the drama serial, about their roles and gave some insights on the show and here’s what you need to know.

Ahsan Khan And Sonya Hussyn Talk About "Aangan"

Ahsan always goes all fan-boy over Ehtisham and that’s how it went this time as well when he said,

“Ehtisham is a great director and above that, he’s a great person who knows how to deal with his actors. I have always been very comfortable with him and I trust his vision. You see, it’s not all about ratings. He and I did a serial together called Preet Na Kariyo Koi and it wasn’t a huge success but we enjoyed making it. I feel one needs to satisfy the actor in you and feel good about what you’re doing. Working with Ehtisham does that for me.”

he further added,

“There’s always a certain depth and beauty in period plays, but production houses hardly make them anymore because it requires a lot of time and effort to recreate an era. They’re more expensive and it’s relatively tougher for the director and the production team. There’s also no guarantee of how well they’d do either,”

The Udaari star continued,

“Mustafa had been working on Aangan for more than a year. It was undoubtedly one of the best novels of its time and now it’s been written by a new writer. I feel such plays are memorable and acquire a cult-classic status if produced well. And one can certainly trust Ehtisham with that.”

Ahsan Khan And Sonya Hussyn Talk About "Aangan"

Talking about the drama Sonya said that since her own ancestors migrated to Pakistan she felt at home with the script,

“I’ve wanted to do a period play for the longest of time! My family’s originally from Lucknow, and considering Aangan is a pre-partition story, I felt at home, I think in some bizarre way, I relate to the world that Aangan is set in; I absolutely love the wardrobe, the dialogues and the whole feel of the play that Ehtisham has captured perfectly. I’ve never extensively worked with him before, but he’s truly one of our finest directors.”

The starlet went on to add,

“Aangan’s been written really well. When I first went through the script, I realised that my character was perhaps the most prominent and I felt I had enough room to explore its dynamics and intensity. You know, she has a lot of shades to her. When you’re offered a certain role, it’s either innocent or dark. But this one has a lot of variation to it. In fact, it’s very human and real. After I did Nazo, I became very selective about accepting roles and this project was exactly the kind of departure and freshness I was looking for.”

Ahsan Khan And Sonya Hussyn Talk About "Aangan"

Talking about the rest of the cast Sonya said that she absolutely loves working with them,

“I’m very fond of all the actors in the serial. I’ve worked with Mawra and Ahsan before and always have a ball with them. Sajal is a powerhouse of talent and Ahad, I feel, is a great new addition to the industry. You can expect some pretty brilliant performances.”

While Ahsan being the artist that he is said that cast doesn’t matter much what matters to him is the script,

“I never knew who was in the cast when I was offered the play and I didn’t try finding out either. I was more concerned with characterisation, the script, the story and the production. It’s nice when you have greats like Zaib Rehman and Abid Ali around you and then, we also have such a promising young cast! I feel Sonya’s been doing great work lately and her character in Aangan is also something to watch out for. Mawra and Sajal are also very talented. I feel everyone fits their characters well and we’ve all gelled in. But casting is never my priority.”

Our curiosity for this show is increasing each time it is making headlines, I mean air it already!!!

Team Arth-2 Includes Oscar-Winner Garry Madison For Visuals

Shaan Shahid is known for not just being an amazing actor that he is but also for his constant struggle to revive Pakistani cinema. Shaan Shahid made us all go gaga over him one more time when he convinced the Oscar-winner Garry Madison to work on his movie Arth-the destination and turn it into a visual delight like Garry’s previous projects that include Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight Rises and movies like The Avengers.

When asked of how thrilled Shaan was about working with Garry Madison he said,

“I was enthused for having an Oscar winner on my team. Working with him has made the experience even more enthralling than I had expected.”

The Khuda Kay Liye star further added,

“I am glad that I made this choice and look forward to witnessing the audience’s response to a fresh display of cinematic art.”

Team Arth-2 Includes Oscar-Winner Garry Madison For Visuals

In a recent interview Garry said the following,

“The themes usually determine the colouring scheme and effects for a movie. Arth not only revolves around themes that are specific to Pakistan but are also a step ahead from what has already been done and shown in Pakistan’s cinematic history and that was a beautiful task for me to accept and make the movie shine,”

While discussing his previous projects he said,

“I’ve been lucky enough to work on some of Hollywood’s biggest films over the last six years; films such as The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar and The Avengers. Arth 2 also falls into that category of film – even though it’s aimed at a different culture. The themes of this film, in fact, carry across all cultures; the feeling of loss and then finding what you thought you had lost – for me that transcends culture.”

Madison further talked about his work on Arth-2,

“Arth is going to be a new evolution for the Pakistani film industry. I’ve been fortunate to be able to infuse my experiences from Hollywood to enhance what is, without a doubt, a visually stunning film but the main credit for that leap goes to the director Shaan and producer Hammad for bringing to life, a modern view surrounding a journey of today’s Pakistanis.”

When asked of the challenges he had to face while working on Arth-the destination he said,

It was very important to Shaan to make sure that the grade of the film was progressive in terms of other Pakistani films that have released before, but along with that, Shaan also wanted to maintain an authentic feel. So that was basically the chief challenge I was faced with.”

He further added,

“I had to find the balance between the old and the new – and let me tell you, I think we found it.”

Shaan has done his best with Arth 2 to bring Lollywood, Bollywood and Hollywood in one place and we can not wait to see the results.

Ali Azmat Hints At A Junoon Reunion

0

What kind of a Pakistani doesn’t remember the most amazing sufi rock band to have ever existed in this country, yes, we speak of none other but Junoon, the band. The band is originally from Punjab and was formed in 1990 by the lead guitarist and songwriter, Salman Ahmad who was later joined by keyboardist Nusrat Hussain and vocalist Ali Azmat. The band broke up around 2005.

Ali Azmat Hints At A Junoon Reunion

But in a recent facebook post on the band’s official page team Ali Azmat asked this,

Ali Azmat Hints At A Junoon Reunion

As expected the fans gave an enthralling response though they are a bit paranoid.

The rumors of a Junoon reunion did surface back in 2014 and last year both of which were put to rest by Ali Azmat who had the following to say,

“It’s not happening… under no circumstances. Everyone else is in the US and I am in Pakistan.”

We wonder if this time it’s true!

Lal Ishq Episode 5 Review – The Deadly Brother Sister Duo

So this was a good but non happening episode of Lal Ishq. We cannot judge this drama in the usual way regarding realism and practicality since the theme is totally different. The story is about people who are quite detached from the urbanised societies of today and who lived and died within their tall havelis all entangled in their ancestors’ stories of love and hate and crime which they pass on to the next generation religiously. So we will also discuss it in that fantasised state of mind, like we are watching an old classical novel unfolding right in front of our eyes, with some very thoughtful and witty dialogues to pique up the interest.

Mehrunnisa’s brother mamoo Munir has arrived who is equally deadly and even more aggressive than his sister. He is all ready to sacrifice his time, effort and even life in search of Bali which she thinks Mehr Punar is not proving to be good at. His dialogues were very witty and his character instantly likeable. A simple rural young man who stands up for his blood, even if he had to sacrifice his childhood friend for it once. He is not playing any games, rather he seriously believes shooting someone point blank is how conflicts are resolved. His short conversations with both Mehr Chiragh and his sister were very entertaining.

The rest of the characters are pretty much up to the same as last time. Farhad and Mahi have just started to weave dreams after Mehrunnisa agreed to meet his father. Mehr Punar is still in search of Bali whom he could not recognise when he came face to face with him. The school master and shopkeeper are still trying to protect Bali.

One interesting development was that Jajji has finally recognised that Mahi is the daughter of Mehr Hukum and the revenge spree her family is on leads to Farhad’s own biological father. He was extremely upset and really wanted to protect Farhad and take him as away from Mahi’s family as he possibly can but he did not come out clear with them. His way was bound to make Farhad and Rameen curious, upset and ultimately rebellious and rightly so.

Yawar is shown playing chess with Mehr Chiragh after sometime and he wanted Yawar to reveal the whereabouts of Bali. Yawar pleaded on his behalf but that only led to frustration and Chirag’s conversation shows that even he himself wants Bali dead and that he cannot forgive the murder of his only son.

Stay tuned to see how the next episode of Lal Ishq turns out to be

Shayyad Episode 2 Review – Good One!

0

This second episode of Shayyad definitely had more highs than lows. Once again Saad in particular won me over completely; his love is pure and honest and Uzair Jaswal has translated this character impeccably on screen so far. The relationship between Hani and Saad has also been explained and shown in such a way that you can’t help but feel an instant connection with them. I simply loved the way the opening scenes of this episode showed that Junaid was “trespassing”. Most of Hani’s conversation with Junaid revolved around the bond she shared with Saad. When Junaid wrote his and Hani’s name on the wall, Hani’s reacted as if he had just entered into Hani and Saad’s world without realizing what he was doing. Later on, when Saad saw those names on the wall he was heartbroken. I must say that while Saad’s feelings for Hani are crystal clear and his scenes extremely poignant, Hani’s character keeps you guessing especially because there are times when Sadia Khan’s expressions are confusing.

It was good to see Junaid’s track wrapping up in this episode without any dramatic twists which most of us were expecting. Junaid gracefully took a step back after he found out that there was no place for him in Hani’s life. This development was refreshing and logical as well. The way Saad took the first bus back home when he found out that Hani was with someone else showed how possessive he was about Hani. The poetry in the previous episode summed up Saad’s feelings for Hani beautifully; he has never loved anyone else therefore he cannot imagine sharing Hani with someone else.

Shayyad Episode 2 Review - Good One!

The wall has been used creatively in more ways than one by the writer; it is a sign of all the ups and downs in Hani and Saad’s relationship and tonight it was used to tell Junaid that Hani didn’t see a soulmate in him. This had to be one of the most novel rejections we have seen in dramas in recent times! The last scene of the episode was directed exceptionally well because this scene could have been too cheesy if it wasn’t directed in a rather subtle manner. Phupo gate crashing and Hani’s reaction went to show that there was nothing romantic about the situation as far as Hani was concerned. I hate Mahpara’s character already; she is the only clichéd character in the drama so far and I feel she is getting a lot more screen time than she should. Her bitterness makes sense but her scenes can easily be forwarded if someone is going to watch this drama online since these scenes are rather repetitive.

Overall, this episode belonged to Saad and Uzair Jaswal yet again. All those people who think that he isn’t “hero material” should definitely give him a chance. He is the only one who has my undivided attention and the only character I truly feel for after watching these two episodes. Sadia Khan on the other hand seemed to be struggling in some of the scenes in tonight’s episode. She looks absolutely flawless in this drama, the make-up artist deserves tons of credit for giving her the perfect makeover but her expressions can sometimes be extremely confusing. Uzair Jaswal and Sadia Khan also share an amazing on-screen chemistry which makes their scenes together work even when Sadia Khan’s performance isn’t always up to the mark. I am looking forward to Nauman Ijaz’s entry in the next episode.

How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Mahira Talks To BBC On Verna, Sexual Harrasment And Ranbir controversy

Mahira Khan is frequently seen on screen lately for promotions. Yesterday the influential thirty four old single mother and the female lead of Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna spoke to BBC World News about her movie, herself being the topic of debate and the very touchy subject of sexual harassment of young aspiring girls.

Firstly, Mahira told that her movie is about rape and how power dynamics play a role in these situations. Then she was asked a very direct question about being a topic of controversy for weeks on end when her photos were leaked while she smoked away with Ranbir Kapoor, and you must hand it over to Mahira for the way she responded. She was totally nonplussed and calm. Now whether that was a rehearsed response or not, but it was a very impressive one. She said that it does hurt to be criticised especially when you are used to being loved only but these things go hand in hand and that the leakage of her private photos was not a correct thing. Having said that, she was completely accepting of the fact that she is a public figure so such things are bound to happen.

On the subject of sexual harassment cases in Hollywood, Mahira said that she herself has never experienced any such attitude towards herself. Part of the reason could be that she has only worked with a handful of people and part because she was not inexperienced. The dive further elaborated that she was a mother when she came into this field so she was not naive like a lot of other teenagers and young girls. Mahira Khan also implied that no matter how a girl conducts herself and how she speaks or sits or walks, it does not give be anyone any right to abuse her. Sexual harassment has nothing to do with the conduct of the harassed woman. That was a very sound statement from the beautiful actress.

Syra Did Not Like The Character Offered To Her In JPNA 2

Syra Shehroz has had bit of a tumbling journey as she ventures into the big screen. First her Project Ghaazi in which she plays the role of a scientist was shelved and will hopefully be releasing in December. Then it was announced that she has been replaced by Mawra Hocane in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, and that arose a lot of curiosity. However, Syra herself has answered this question in a conversation with Instep.

Syra Did Not Like The Character Offered To Her In JPNA 2

Here is what Syra had to say about opting out of the much anticipated sequel;

“Simply, because after reading the script I knew I didn’t want to play that character. I’m all about experimenting and challenging myself but it’s got to be substantial and I didn’t think it was.”

Now this gives rise to speculation that the character is merely a filler, but only time will tell.

O Rangreza Episode 16 Review – What’s The Purpose?

Ohkay so, without sugarcoating it, I will say that this episode was boring, so much so that I watched it without paying attention to it. I think the writer got too caught up in the uniqueness of the plot & the characters that he forgot to take the story forward. Yes, the writer deserves to be commended for daring to be different & bringing some very unique characters but then things lose their charm real quick if the purpose is lost & this is happening with the O Rangreza now!

Seriously, I never had issues with Qasim’s character, like he was introduced as a unique ‘man’ who was in touch with his emotional side, which again was something that hindered Sassi from seeing him as a ‘man’, but for the first time seeing him cry over the loss of birds made me say that he should ‘man up’ a bit. Seriously, I have no issues with his personality, his emotionality, his kind-heartedness but ever since he has returned after leaving his education only to please Sassi is making it hard for me to take him seriously. Where Qasim should have done everything to shape up his future to prove a point to Sassi & to change her perspective about him, here he is pettily smiling after getting a Tota as a gift? Seriously, man up you!

Whatever Tipu has done in the past or whatever he is planning to do now doesn’t interest me so I won’t be wasting my words on him however, the shift in Meena’s attitude was once again unconvincing. She has spent years with Tipu & she never really saw the fault in him so why all of a sudden she was getting put off by his attitude? Even though Meena has gotten a bit too attached with Tipu’s family members but before anything, she should try to fix him!

Tipu’s double standards which the writer spoke about surfaced in this episode where he spoke highly of Sassi just because she is his sister but ended up judging Meena the moment Mumtaz told him to get committed to her, but then again, how does it add to the story?

Sassi is trying everything to woo Wajih & the way she goes in a trance while speaking about him irks me to no end. Yes, she can be infatuated with him & I am sure she is confused between love & infatuation but then again to see her crossing some limits that too with Qasim’s assistance is bizarre!

So, Mumtaz believes in giving Khayyam as many chances as he wants because she thinks he will return to her after getting tired of making mistakes, even though I don’t feel a thing for her character, this approach of hers was quite interesting & may be because of this, Khayyam was seen juggling between Mumtaz & Sonia for the first time. Even though I do feel he will still choose to be with Sonia but for the first time he surely is thinking about Mumtaz.

I don’t know but I feel the plot of this drama has derailed & now the story is going around in a loop. Yes, even though everything about this drama is unique but then I think the writer went into too much detailing & dissection of the characters that on a macro level, the story isn’t making any progress & we are being forced to see & understand the characters even after so many weeks where we are technically past the introductory stage of the drama, story & characters. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of O Rangreza.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Teri Raza Episode 19 Review – Ridiculous!

Ohkay so, this episode was all about picking up the pieces & coming to terms with what happened. It was more about Imtiyaz because he was the one emotionally invested in this relationship & not Suhana.

So, Talat thought by using child as a bait, she will be able to convince Imtiyaz to take Suhana back. It is so obvious that more than wanting to save this marriage, Talat is concerned about face saving that is why she was giving one bizarre logic after another to force Imtiyaz to patch things up! I really had a hard time understanding that how can a woman of Talat’s age be so stupid to not see that she didn’t have to convince Imtiyaz because he never wanted to part ways with Suhana in the first place. It was her daughter Suhana who needed all that pep talk but oh well, Suhana’s parents know that they have raised a monster so they are beating around the bush in order to feel that they have done enough, whereas they haven’t apart from damaging the relationship more!

This episode had so much of fillers & nothing substantial (not that there is any substance in the story in the first place). Well, the coverage Manzura gets is so annoying, like her character is just hard to tolerate, she has that persona & I can’t beleive that after all these years, Daadi still feels the need to tell her how dusting is supposed to be done!

Anyways, I just & I still can not believe Suhana’s character. The way writer has shown sympathy towards her is quite irrational. I just couldn’t believe that after divorce, Suhana was wondering what went wrong & she had no idea WHY she got divorced in the first place? Writer herself knows that she can not justify Suhana’s behavior still she has added in these dialogues to make her look like a victim. Suhana had the audacity to say that she did everything her family taught her to make this marriage work while completely ignoring that despite being told not to, she continued having an affair with Rameez. Suhana was being shown as if her heart was aching but it wasn’t coming through because we all know she wanted to get out of this marriage right from the beginning. Oh well, Suhana made another statement where she said that she listened to others but now she is going to listen to herself, another biggest flaw of this drama because right from the beginning, Suhana did everything she wanted to do. She might blame her parents as much as she wants but nothing that she will say or do will conceal the fact that she herself chose to get married to Imtiyaz. Oh well, by adding all that Istikhara & Badshaguni concept, writer again tried to show that Suhana was such a bechari that she was sacrificing her love & choosing her family’s well being over her boyfriend, duh!

Well, I just couldn’t believe Daadi’s speech that she gave to Suhana after her divorce. Daadi’s heart was beating because Suhana got married so technically, shouldn’t it stop, now that she is divorced? Also, just the news of Imtiyaz’s intention of getting separated from Suhana was enough for Daadi to collapse, so not sure why nothing happened to her after the divorce? & oh, Rameez, all he does is smoke cigarettes & roam around without a worry in the world & yes he stalks Suhana on Facebook, this is what he does & still he is going to get the heroine in the end? Hahah! What a joke! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Teri Raza.

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 19 Review – Heart-wrenching!

This episode of Yaar e Bewafa was heart-wrenching, especially because they covered the factors that lead to child labour. It was so hard to see it all & with this they covered another aspect of the reality where the toughest of circumstances push people to resort to the extremes. As heart-wrenching as it was, it was definitely done well!

So, Amna was having a hard time making the ends meet & the best Saleem’s friend could suggest was that she should allow Omar to work for the time being. I must say seeing that young boy working with his little hands was so heart-rending, it was just too much for me to handle. That little boy knew that his mother had no other option so he just surrendered & decided to help her. Everything that he did, from assisting the owner of the place to pouring tea & then returning home with stained clothes was a true but harsh depiction of a reality of all such people who are defeated by the circumstances & who resort to this extreme & it was portrayed flawlessly.

I literally sighed with relief when I saw Zaid spotting Omar. Zaid immediately understood what Amna must be going through & how helpless she must have been to send Omar for work. Zaid’s eagerness to help Amna & support her is appreciable. It was so obvious that Amna wouldn’t believe Zaid but the plot twist was the cassette that Saleem left behind in which he told her what he told Zaid that he should take her responsibility after he dies.

Fizza is moving on & even though Humera told Zaid that he should go to his wife & son, Zaid knew that it was too late as firstly, he was never going to leave his mother & secondly, he knew that there was nothing left in their relationship.

Overall, this episode was nice. The pace of the drama is quite slow but even after so many weeks they have succeeded in keeping the interest of the viewers alive. All the actors have done a great job too but the crown goes to the child actor playing the role of Omar, he is absolutely adorable, Masha Allah. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.

The guests were not showbiz personalities but rather real people who have memorised, studied and toiled after the philosophy and ideology of this great poet. The most prominent ones were Afshan Ahmed, Asra Jamshed, Professor Kamran and Mufti Umair. Asra is an educationalist who runs an organisation to spread Iqbaliat as a subject. Professor Kamran shared deep insights about his understanding of the deep and meaningful verses by Iqbal and how he had given us advice that is still applicable so many decades later. Mufti Umair was also well learned on the topic of Iqbal’s concepts of self esteem and awareness.

Faysal had also arranged a competition on which three teams were tested on their memory of Iqbal’s poetry. The participants were all youngsters and it was very refreshing to see the young Lloyd so engrossed in Iqbal’s age old wisdom. They had memorised hundreds of thousands of his precious verses.

Baaghi Episode 16 Review – Kanwal, the bechari!

Tonight’s episode of Baaghi yet again showed how Kanwal Baloch continued to find ways to become a “star” but failed to do so. Basically, the viewers are being shown that Kanwal is living two completely different lives, she has ‘real’ struggles to deal with while she isn’t faking a different personality when she is on social media. She is not being allowed to listen to her son’s voice even and she is not getting the kind of work she wants. So far, the attention she is getting is negative, something she doesn’t like since she is still looking for acceptance. Like every other episode of Baaghi, this one too had plenty of scenes which could have been chopped down. There is no denying the fact that Saba Qamar is an amazing actress but making her copy Qandeel Baloch to an extent that some of the scenes actually look like a parody wasn’t a wise decision! Sitting through these scenes was tough since there wasn’t anything even remotely likeable about this side of Kanwal’s personality. This was the first episode in which the writer (reluctantly) showed Kanwal resorting to shortcuts for getting attention but it was primarily due to the advices her friend gave her which once again exempted Kanwal Baloch of all responsibility!

One of the many reasons why I find it really hard to connect to this character is that although this woman left her house and has been on her own for so long yet she has always been shown as an innocent and naive individual who has no idea what the consequences of her actions would be. Kanwal could have been shown as a street smart woman who planned these things on her own. I have always felt that in an attempt to make people around her responsible for whatever she has done since day one the writer has failed to give Kanwal a definite personality. Also, there has been absolutely no character development so far – when will this baghawat start? Although Kanwal has a more modern outlook now but she isn’t half as strong as she was when she was Fauzia Batool. The dialogues and conversation about people being hypocrites was another attempt to make Kanwal Baloch look like a dhood ki dhuli hui bechari aurat – a portrayal which very often clashes with everything Kanwal has done so far! I find it really hard to see her as someone who is struggling to earn a living.

Baaghi Episode 16 Review - Kanwal, the bechari!

Abid’s character unfortunately is just as one-dimensional as that of Kanwal and his scenes are highly repetitive. This episode followed the same pattern as the previous episode, most of the episode was dedicated to Kanwal, a scene which showed Abid showing his true colors, another scene in which Kanwal’s brother was smoking and one which showed how Kanwal’s family was struggling financially. The scenes covering Kanwal’s facebook videos were painfully long and didn’t add much to the story. So far this drama also promotes the ultimate cliché that there are hardly any good men in the world!! Will Osman Khalid Butt’s character be the first positive male character in the drama? I sure do hope so! At this point I am sick and tired of watching Kanwal’s weirdness as well as her rona dhona! She was a bechari as Fauzia and now she an even bigger bechari as Kanwal!

Hania Amir Lands In A Harassment Controversy!

0

The emerging starlet, Hania Amir has landed herself in a harassment controversy and interestingly she is not the victim. Hanis is known for her excessive activity on social media. It is the medium which brought her in the industry in the first place. And now after garnering immense fame, Hania is still active on all of her social media accounts. Recently Hania posted a video on Snapchat filmed during a flight. She was trying to get a man seated behind her in her video and the man was visibly uncomfortable. Hania was making fun of him and still got him in her video:

People lost it on this and social media was flooded with responses against Hania:

Hania, on the other hand, has talked to Express Tribune on this issue and said that she didn’t mean to harass anyone and it was all fun:

“First of all, I’d like to apologise to everyone who got offended by the video I posted. That was not my intention at all. My intention was never to harass a man since I do know how it feels to be judged on how I wear my hair, what shoes I wear. Therefore, as soon as the video was uploaded and I saw the snap, I deleted it right there. I wasn’t trying to invade his personal space or anything like that. I’m known for making funny vines and videos and that was what the video was about. I wasn’t harassing anyone…. That definitely wasn’t what I meant to do. It was just an exchange of  expressions between two people and I found that hilarious at that time. However, I would still like to apologise to everyone about it.”

Verna’s Rap Song Power Di Game’s Video is Out

Power Di Game is the X Polymer Dar’s masterpiece that made the first teaser trailer of Verna look intimidatingly dark, the song truly captures the theme this movie revolves around; the power that politicians and feudal lords have over a common man and how frequently and remorselessly this power is misused.

Verna's Rap Song Power Di Game's Video is Out

The song suggests that the romance Mahira and Haroon share onscreen doesn’t last long, both are shown playing a chess game in which Mahira is definitely showing who is the boss here.

Verna's Rap Song Power Di Game's Video is Out

Further more Mahira is portrayed as an angry young woman you simply do not want to mess with.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 1 Review – Yumna Zaidi Steals The Show!

Writer: Bee Gul
Director: Kashif Nisar
Producer : Momina Duraid (MD Productions)
Schedule: Every Wednesday at 8pm on HUM

This drama has some big shoes to fill since it is replacing one of the most loved drama serials of recent times. Dar Si Jati Hei Sila’s promos already revealed that it wasn’t going to be a journey like Yakeen Ka Safar since even though Yakeen Ka Safar had some strong messages, it was never a heavy duty drama. After a really long time Bee Gul has written a play which has a classic Bee Gul feel to it – this drama I am certain has not been made to be a commercial hit just like Talkhiyan. The first episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila focused primarily on Sila and revealed few details about all those people who are directly related to her.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila is the story of a big family living in Noor Manzil. All the family members have their own distinctive personalities. The opening scene of this first episode was brilliantly written and executed since this short scene revealed a great deal about the relationship these three individuals – Joi (Nauman Ijaz), Sila (Yumna Zaidi) and Sadia (Saman Ansari) – shared with each other. Joi is a classic example of those male relatives who abuse girls from their family yet no one in the family ever doubts them for a second. On the contrary, everyone blamed Sila for acting strange. The way Sila looked at Sadia and the manner in which Sadia questioned Joi when she came in the room clearly showed that she knew everything yet somehow she decided to keep this to herself. Later on different scenes and dialogues also suggested that there was something going on between Joi and Sadia as well. Sadia’s husband is mostly away therefore she has raised Sila like a single parent which is why her sister-in-laws blamed her entirely for Sila’s flawed upbringing. Sila’s father was never there for her or her mother therefore her tayees consider both of them a liability. It seemed like Sakina Samo’s character ran the show in Noor Manzil which is why her brother Joi got away with everything till now.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 1 Review - Yumna Zaidi Steals The Show!

Sila’s cousin Zaini has a completely different personality than her which is probably why just like her mother she feels that she is more entitled to winning Raheel over than Sila! Raheel and Zaini’s interactions came across as more of flirting than anything else. Raheel doesn’t feel attracted towards Sila since she has never put in any effort to stay in touch with him and she gets scared every time he goes near her. Noshi (Zaini’s mother) is also not happy that Sila is the one getting engaged to Raheel therefore she joined in when Joi was telling Tullo (Raheel’s mother) about Sila’s condition.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 1 Review - Yumna Zaidi Steals The Show!

The most powerful scenes in this episode were the ones which covered Sila’s interactions with her mother. These scenes piqued my curiosity more than any other. Yumna Zaidi is a phenomenal performer who translates the most difficult characters on screen effortlessly. There were plenty of scenes in tonight’s episode which wouldn’t have been as powerful as they were if Yumna Zaidi did not give such a brilliant performance. The only time Sila spoke her mind was when she was with her mother otherwise she stayed quiet although she did not like the fact that everyone in the house was constantly judging her. Nauman Ijaz is also continuously experimenting with different roles and he always excels every time. He looks and acts completely different depending on the kind of role he is playing. Saman Ansari, Sakina Samo and Munazzah Arif also gave solid performances in this episode. The biggest disappointment however was that many of the scenes in this episode had already been shown repeatedly in promos. I am surprised that part of the opening scene was also shown in the promos, in my opinion the promos shouldn’t have revealed so much about Sila and Joi’s character.

This wasn’t the kind of episode which wins you over completely but it was definitely the sort of episode which gives you a reason to tune into the next episode. I am looking forward to what team Dar Si Jati Hei Sila has in store for us next. I find the cover photo of the drama really interesting since it mentions revenge apart from everything else. The topic of sexual abuse has been done-to-death lately therefore this drama will only hold the interest of the viewers if it offers something different and meaningful.

“Tiger Zinda Hai should be released in Pakistan” Imran Abbas

“Tiger Zinda Hai” has been getting applauds from fans all over the world after it’s trailer launch yesterday and guess who just boarded the hype train? Yeap, our very own gorgeous Imran Abbas. Imran made his Bollywood debut opposite Bipasha Basu in Creature 3D and also has a cameo in Karan Johar’s Aey Dil Hai Mushkil to his credits.

"Tiger Zinda Hai should be released in Pakistan" Imran Abbas

Tiger Zinda Hai is the second installment in the Tiger franchise with the first one being Ek Tha Tiger which was banned in Pakistan because it portrayed Pakistan’s security agencies wrongly and it’s public screening would have caused nothing but havoc.

Yesterday the Creature 3D star took to his twitter and went all fan-boy over this Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer.

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

The way good characters make a drama, similarly bad characters can break a drama as well. Where every single year we get memorable characters, our writers often come up with such characters which leave the viewers agitated because they are far from reality and are so poorly written that the viewers find it hard to relate to them or understand their journey. For any character to resonate with the viewers, it has to be written in such a way that makes its way into the viewers’ heart but where we get a fair share of good characters, we also come across such characters that annoy us to the core.

Here’s a list dedicated to all such characters who were poorly conceived and written:

Suhana (Teri Raza)

This girl has everything going for her but she is someone who is thankless and a spoiled brat. Suhana ended up getting married to her cousin because she wanted to save her family from ‘badshaguni’ of not following the ‘istikhara’ but she also doesn’t mind having an extra marital affair while completely ignoring the value of ‘nikkah’. A liar, a manipulator and someone who believes in guilt tripping her husband who sincerely loves and adores her. Pretty twisted we say!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Rameez (Teri Raza)

A guy who loves wearing female clothing, has no backbone, no substance except a bucket full of foundation on his face. Rameez is a spineless guy who ran away when his lady love asked him to officially commit to her but is now making her life miserable after her marriage because now he has realized that his peanut sized ego can not see her being with someone else, how convenient!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Suhana’s Daadi (Teri Raza)

Well, to keep it short and sweet, she can be termed as ‘fasad ki jarh’ because she not only did the wrong Istikhara, she even faked a heart disease but she recovered her lifeline when she got Suhana married to Imtiyaz citing her Rukhsati as a reason behind her long life. Pretty twisted, isn’t it? Oh, and not to be missed, her digs at English every now and then? It is good that they were trying to break the stereotype by showing that Daadi isn’t too old-school but her blackmailing tactics proved them wrong and made her a bit more annoying.

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Harib (Sanam)

A forced bechara, who tried to prove his bechargi the entire time but failed because his foundation clad face, kajal filled eyes and heavy contouring were too distracting. A guy who didn’t worry about getting oil stains on his suit because he was so fixated with Anda Paratha and the guy who got married to the girl knowing she had some ‘issues’ but when he had to man up and deal with everything, he couldn’t stop badmouthing his wife!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Aan (Sanam)

A perfect mashriqi larki who only was mashriqi from her appearance because when it came to flirting and trapping the guy with her Anda Parathas, she was a pro. A girl who didn’t mind hugging her ‘friend’, who didn’t mind visiting her friend after dinner and before breakfast without even bothering about ‘log kya kahainge’ and a girl who had zero personality whatsoever!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Shehroz (Sanam)

We are unsure as to why this character was even there because he was just as confused as the viewers about his role in the drama. He vowed to be Harib’s best friend but made sure to stuff things up deliberately to see the circus as a spectator when his friend’s life would mess up. In short, he was a subtle version of a phappay kutni!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Ayla (Sanam)

Ayla, Juhi Chawla, just as weird as her name, she had no idea what she wanted from life. She hated Harib when she was married to him but then tried getting back with him after their divorce. She would spend hours looking at Harib and his home through binoculours, someone was in dire need of a life!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Badshah Begum (Mor Mahal)

It was a pity that a woman who looked so regal and royal had such a weird personality and petty brain that she’d only be concerned about her son’s Shab e Uroosi. That woman had no other dialogue that is why she was on the loop about Asif Jahan’s Shab e Uroosi, like seriously aunty?

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Asif Jahan (Mor Mahal)

May be by the end of every round of dressing up as a Ruler/King with all that heavy jewelry, head gears and sherwanis, he would be so tired that he actually forgot to fulfill his responsibilities as a ruler, or may be he was too busy keeping a count of how many wives he had that he once again forgot what he as a ruler should have done. A poorly written character is all we can say about Asif Jahan!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Baba Jee (Nazr e Bad)

He was not only scary or creepy but he was a big question mark for all the viewers who were watching Nazr e Bad. His screams and dance moves literally woke the viewers up at night because he scared the life out of them. Even though the actor tried to make this character very fancy with sporting a half-face glamorous look, the overall persona was scary and annoying to the point that his scenes were best watched, when forwarded!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Sir Isaac (Khuda Aur Mohabbat)

A dean of the university who was confused about his job description, that is why he would either act as a security guard, a spy or an FBI Agent because he was paranoid. Sir Isaac would personally go through the pain of checking Muslim students’ bags to prove that they were terrorists, he would also spend hours patrolling around the Masjid to see if his Muslim student was involved in some suspicious activity or not. In stead of making him a rational character, the writer ended up turning him into a paranoid!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Zeeshan (Khuda Aur Mohabbat)

He was a suited booted goon, but what made him even more annoying was that where he should’ve been shown as some business tycoon or mafia master given his personality, he was shown as a university ‘student’. A guy who couldn’t keep his emotions in control and whose existence was a question mark in the story. Oh, did we talk about his ponytail, we think the picture is pretty self-explanatory!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Shahab (Waada)

Gullibility and playing naive were Shahab’s super powers! ” I can run a business and house but can’t think logically when it comes to relationships” is the best way to explain this character. Even though his character was introduced like that of an intelligent man who loved his wife but it did not take him long to be blackmailed into a nikkah with the maid of the house and if things weren’t bad enough as it was, he even let this “maid wife” who was old enough to be his daughter dictate to her. It was sickening as well as annoying watching Shahab fall for every single trap set for him because that was the only way the writer could make an “exemplary” bechari out of Shahab’s wife. Shahab failed at much more than breaking his waada, he completely failed at using his common sense as well!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Zubeida (Muqabil)

Zubeida had to be the most loud and annoying supporting character this year. In a household where everyone believed in keeping a low profile, Zubeida’s loud voice and OTT character stood out like a sore thumb. She was someone who was constantly complaining at the peak of her voice and didn’t contribute much to the story for more than 14 weeks!! The fact that even though her character did not contribute much to the story but she was given plenty of screen time also made her scenes intolerable.

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Saba’s Daddi (Bin Roye)

Saba’s dadi definitely deserves the most meesni weird meethi churi Daddi award since her mera bacha rhetoric was never backed by enough action to prove that she really loved or understood Saba. Also daddi’s unexplained “memory loss” every now and then made her character not only annoying but also senseless. Even after indirectly telling Saba that she knew exactly what Saba wanted, she went all out and supported Saman. She witnessed Saba’s outburst at the wedding yet did not understand why she had a problem going to the US to help Saman out!!

Most Annoying Characters of 2017!

Usman’s Mother (Ghairat)

When drama serial Ghairat started it seemed like Usman’s mother wasn’t going to be another one of those mothers we see in dramas all the time who watch their daughters suffering and don’t do anything about it. But as the drama progressed this character went from being promising to being completely helpless and then just plain annoying! This mother’s helplessness does not make any sense especially after she lost both her daughters. Her empty threats, repetitive dialogues and incapability to help anyone around her makes her one of the most annoying characters this year.
