Lies About Mehreen
In this family where everything is seemingly smooth, due to limited exposure & a high level of insecurities, everyone has made Mehreen a punching bag, an easy target because they know she is alone with no one to come to her support. With each passing day, their behavior, their attitude, their accusations break her into bits & pieces. Mehreen actually is alone, she has been alone since she was a young girl, therefore it is understandable why she puts up a brave face & keeps her emotions bottled up.
It is unfortunate that no one has once tried to understand her, which makes it harder for Mehreen to come clean about her feelings & thoughts that are running through her mind. One would expect a bit of kindness & gentleness from a grandmother but she too is aloof & distant. I will say that Shamim Hilali has performed this character brilliantly but it is turning out to be my least favorite character because she was or even is in a position to do something for Mehreen but she turns a blind eye & adds more to her woes!
Mehreen’s interaction with Saleha was refreshing because it showed how she at least had someone who believed in dealing with Mehreen with utmost kindness & respect. Saleha’s reactions showed that she too was sad seeing how much Mehreen was struggling. Although there was a brief moment where Mehreen tried to hide her emotions from Saleha, but she figured that out quickly. In this episode, one thing was further elaborated that Mehreen is stuck in the past, she is stuck in her childhood & there are bits & bobs of that phase that she keeps close to her heart. She has some level of affection for Rabia when she was solely her mother because she does remember her as a doting & loving parent. The span of 5 years in which Rabia did not come to see Mehreen, as well as Saleha, leaving for Kuwait makes one truly think what a little child must have been through, especially in a place where she was unwanted, where everyone resented her. 5 years is a long long time, especially for a young child who yearns for nothing but love. While interacting with Saleha, Mehreen sounded as if she wanted to reverse the time & go back to that life where everything was perfect, where she was happy.
While watching this episode, I was thinking why Mashal couldn’t try winning Aswad over without putting Mehreen down but then I was reminded that this is all that she knew. This is her approach because she has seen how it might work in her favor. Mashal doesn’t know anything apart from putting Mehreen down therefore she finds it easy to make Mehreen a villain, in a hope that it makes her look good. Mashal has been lying to Aswad without fear of getting exposed because she knows that the two do not interact with each other at all. Those few scenes showcased how disturbed Mashal too is as a person, how twisted she is to come up with so many situations that deprive Mehreen of peace & happiness. Killing her bird, hiding her inhalers every now & then, & turning people against her all the time. Mashal too happens to be someone who needs help to snap out of this negativity that she has been garnering inside of her for almost all her life. The scene where Mashal reads Mehreen’s diary was heart-wrenching. Anyone would feel that way if they find out the hatred someone has in their heart against them but then why was Mashal surprised? She has never given Mehreen a reason to not feel that way about her, instead she added more fuel to the fire by doing all of this!
Aswad’s reaction while talking to Mehreen on the phone depicted how at a certain point in his life he had high regard for Mehreen, how he put her on a certain kind of pedestal & now when he was finding out the bitter truths about her, more than being disappointed he was frustrated. I liked how carefully Aswad picked his words & told Mehreen to stop wasting her life because as a well-wisher, this is all that he could say to her. I think so far, everything was pretty stagnant in Mehreen’s life, there was no relief, no channel for anything good to make its way to her but with Aswad soon coming to Pakistan, things will change for Mehreen drastically. Aswad will be the one who will become a mediator & more than that, he will assess Mehreen with his own sensibilities. He will form his own opinion & will try to make things work for her, something that no one else has tried to do before. I really wish Saleha had at least done something for Mehreen in this regard because like everyone around here knows, Mehreen has a great relationship with her aunt, therefore Saleha should’ve at least tried to change her mothers’ perspective of her.
Convincing Performances
This episode of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay was brilliant & thoroughly gripping. I really enjoyed Mahira Khan’s performance as Mehreen, especially in all those scenes where she was trying to hide what was running through her mind. What I really like about Mehreen is that she is not afraid of standing up for herself. Although she snaps at everyone, which is deemed as badtameezi but it is interesting how Mehreen never tries to clarify or explain herself. It shows that she has given up on it because she knows no matter what she will say or do, her family members are always going to misunderstand her. This is exactly why she behaved with Aswad in a similar manner where instead of getting defensive, she let him think whatever he wanted to. I am happy there is a character like Shabo who brings in some comic relief to this drama.
I did however find some of Mashal’s dialogues & scenes a bit repetitive but I am glad things are about to change from the next episode. Kubra Khan is acting well too but I would like to see more from her. Nani’s dialogues especially about Mehreen’s father are also quite repetitive, it is as if she has nothing else to say. Another scene I found a little stretched was Mehreen unable to find her inhaler. For someone who suffers from asthma, having an inhaler in the bag is a must. She’s always seen looking for it in the drawers, but somehow when she knows this is something that happens with her quite often with Mashal taking it away from her, she should keep a backup at least. The episode was well-shot & directed. I really like the OST & the background music too, it adds depth to the emotions felt by the characters. So, with an eventful episode, Shehnai came to an end & it was a happy ending for Meerab & Bakht. Shehnai was definitely a drama with a refreshing & new story, a unique concept which may look unrealistic but the thing that made it real was the emphasis on family relations & their importance. Right from the beginning, Shehnai turned out to be a perfect, light-hearted entertainment & because it had so many characters, it never looked boring. However, towards the end, it did become a little stagnant but apart from that, the way the story was taken forward with so many twists & turns, it definitely is the kind of drama that I would recommend to those who want to watch something easy & fun!
An Eventful Ending
It took so much for Bakht to finally be convinced that Hunain was deceiving her. Although her intuition kept on telling her that something was wrong, there was definitely something off about the entire plan that Hunain had devised but she was too scared to admit it. It is nice to see that all this while, Bakht was constantly reminded of how Meerab had been truthful & respectful towards her. Bakht couldn’t stop thinking of all those times when Meerab took a stand for her & protected her. It was nice that every time Bakht decided to convince herself, there were her cousins Saima, Iffat & Beenish who told her otherwise & let her know that she was making the biggest mistake of her life.
I really think they could’ve done without Hunain slapping Bakht, it just wasn’t necessary. They already kidnapped her & forced her for the Nikkah, so that was enough of an eye-opener for her. I am glad that before Meerab saved the day, Qifayat came clean & took full accountability for what he had done & how he wanted to get back at all of them who used to insult him. Qifayat was time & again reminded of how kind-hearted this entire family was & this turned out to be a perfect case of good winning over bad!
Shehnai has emphasized a lot on family ties & forgiveness. It has time & again shown how one can get past the difficult times when you have family support. I also must mention that for me, one of the best aspects of this drama was the relationship Absar had with Bakht. I don’t say Bakht with Absar because she ended up being deceptive at certain points, she even lied to her father but her father’s continuous & unwavering support often made her reevaluate her decisions. In the end, yet again Absar forgave Bakht & reinforced the fact that it’s perfectly fine for children to make mistakes but in the end, if they want to make amends, they should be welcomed with open arms.
It was refreshing to see a character like Meerab who was always kind, non-judgmental & was in touch with his emotions. Although in a lot of places these traits didn’t work well in his favor he continued to push through & didn’t change himself to fit someone else’s narrative. Meerab continued to stand by Bakht through thick & thin & never once blamed her. I really think the writer did us a favor but showing that such male characters can also exist & be liked by the drama viewers.
Unique Idea With Great Messages
The family members, their politics & then coming together in tougher times were all a delight to watch. All in all, Shehnai was a very unique & special drama with a lot of nice messages & positive characters. The writer should be extremely happy for coming up with such a concept which was well-received. The OST was another bonus point of this drama. Ramsha Khan & Affan Waheed’s chemistry was great, I wish in the second half of the drama we had seen more of Bakht & Meerab’s interactions but that didn’t turn out to be the cast. The supporting cast especially Maryam Noor, Umar Alam, Arsalan Faisal, Maham Amir, Hammad Shoaib & Anosha Ali performed really well. It was always fun to see what they were going through & how they were reacting to every situation. Saleem Mairaj gave one of the best performances in Shehani, he put in all the flavors in Qifayat’s character to make it so realistic & convincing. The teaser of Mahira Khan starrer biopic Aik Hai Nigar is out now. The biopic features Lt General Nigar Johar’s life journey who is the first ever three star lady General of Pakistan Army, Nigar Johar is a brilliant surgeon who has spent her life working in the field of medical with dedication and devotion, she is working in the field since 1985.
The central role of the telefilm is essayed by Mahira Khan as Nigar Johar alongside Bilal Ashraf. The starting half of the biopic is shot in Army Medical college, depicting Johar’s student life followed by professional life. Mahira is looking elegant in uniform. She seems to be portraying the character of Nigar Johar brilliantly with full mannerism.
Fans loved the first look of the biopic. The biopic is directed by Adnan Sarwar, it is written by Umera Ahmad and produced by Nina Kashif and Mahira Khan under their banner Soulfry_films. She shared how her 36 years of marriage with Iqbal Ansari ended because her father had given her the right to divorce just in case she was not happy with her marriage. Since she had children early on in her marriage, she felt she needed to continue her marriage for her children.
She got married to Iqbal Hussain when she was in her late 50s but until now she has not announced this marriage. However, it is pretty evident that Bushra is happy with her decision. It goes to show that ending a relationship that is not fulfilling is much wiser than carrying on with it and being unhappy.

Jia Ali got married recently at 48 years old to Imran Idress, who is a Pakistani businessman based in Hong Kong. The nikkah ceremony took place in Badshahi Mosque. The couple shared that their marriage was a mix of love and arranged one. Imran will move to Pakistan and the couple will merge their businesses together. Jia Ali is proud of the fact that she waited for the right time to get married and she shared that her husband’s parents had no problem with the age difference because her husband is younger than her.

Lately , we have been noticing that Atif Aslam has once again started giving a lot of interviews, not only this he’s coming up with his fresh songs, his latest song video also features the beautiful Sajal Aly. The song is out and has fetched decent views from all across the world.
Atif Aslam, in a recent interview, has replied to Shahrukh Khan through Haroon Rasheed of BBC who asked Atif, “Is it true that at one point you were too busy that you didn’t sing song for Shahrukh, I have his clip for you, it is on the record that he said this, I will play the video clip for you”
To this question, Atif replied, “No, nothing of that sort happened, I have had a chance to meet Shahrukh only once, he is a wonderful person, firstly, he didn’t approach me personally, secondly, it was Shahrukh’s team who approached me, I did sing that song, its on record I am telling you that I recorded that song and sent it back to his team, I think his team didn’t put us through, something happened which wasn’t conveyed to him”
Atif said that he sang song and one day heard Shahrukh saying that Atif refused singing for him. Atif also said that if Shahrukh sees him then he must know that he can’t be too busy for Shahrukh and will love to sing for him. Atif said that he still has that record of song.
He further said that Shahrukh must ask his team for that because he definitely sang the song for him.
The 14th of August is marked as the Independence Day of Pakistan. Every year Independence Day in Pakistan is celebrated with full zeal and zest. This year 14th of August and Muharram-ul-Haram coincidently collided with each other. According to the Islamic calendar 14th of August marks the 6th of Muharram this year. It was requested by many of our celebrities not to celebrate the 14th of August this time and to show some respect for the month of Muharram. The general public on the other hand didn’t take any notice of this request and the majority of them celebrated Independence Day like usual.
Former film actress Noor Bukhari showed her dejection on this behavior of people. She took Instagram’s story to share her disappointment.

Fiza replied: “When I got married to Fawad, I used to live in Karachi, he took me to Lahore because of his work. He was a business person and he is from a Chiniyoti family. We didn’t have any such issues, he never scolded me, abused me, hit me, or misbehaved with me. But yes he is a very social person and he loves socializing. The family I belong to has no concept of parties.”
Fiza added: “He wanted me to join committee parties, he didn’t want my time, he just wanted me to be social. He wanted me to be the most famous person in Lahore Town. For him stardom or Tv was nothing, this all was rubbish for him. He wanted me to be very well socialized”
“Ultimately it was my family’s decision. My sister and brother took the decision that I won’t live with him, there were some personal problems. There were no fights in it” said Fiza.

Nadia Khan is a well-known Pakistani actress, host and producer. The very talented and ever gorgeous Nadia Khan was recently spotted in a show “Good Morning Pakistan” with her family.
Nadia Khan while talking about her elder daughter Alizay mentioned that “A few days ago Alizay gave a audition for IDream entertainment. Actually it was my conspiracy to not to let Alizay go to Canada. I asked her to join showbiz because she is fond of Pakistani dramas.”
“I asked her that everyone can go abroad for studies there’s nothing special in it but you should try your luck in showbiz field. The production house gave her the script and she started rehearsing as well, but if she’s happy with her decision to go abroad and study, I’ll not force her for anything”, added Nadia Khan.
Ohkay so, after weeks & weeks, this turned out to be a reasonable episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3. The conversations flowed nicely & made a lot of sense & there seemed to be some progress in every single track. I think they have taken their sweet time the way they wanted to, but now it’s necessary to move the story forward & make every single episode packed with a punch. Farhad’s silence & Mahi’s misery have been dragged to the point where it stopped keeping me engaged but now when they crossed paths, things stopped seeming stagnant, which was a much-needed relief.
Important Developments
Jageerdarni approached Mahi’s mother with a lot of wisdom & sensibility. Although Mahi’s mother had all the right to reject Sikandar’s proposal but the points Jageerdarni put forth were convincing enough for Mahi’s mother to consider everything that she said. I found Jageerdarni’s case to be strong & her points valid because Mahi wasn’t alone to have suffered a heartbreak. Jageerdarni too has lost her son but because she is seeing the bigger picture as she said, she buried the grief in her heart to bring joy to her family & keep it intact. Mahi’s mother who at first thought it was impossible was forced to think things through after she saw the kind of treatment her daughter was getting at Jageerdarni’s place. Sikandar’s kids love & respect her, Mahi feels comfortable, Jageerdarni values Mahi more than ever, therefore her mother got to assess the entire situation which was favorable for Mahi. I am glad that Jageerdarni also acknowledged the fact that if Mahi wouldn’t agree to this marriage, her decision will be respected, this was definitely refreshing to hear!
Romana & Chanda have started facing their own struggles but because they both have each others’ support, they are fighting through. The interaction Chanda had with random strangers showed how things might get tougher for them in the future but for now, this was just an introduction they got with a world outside their secure four walls. This particular incident highlighted the fact that women like Chanda & Romana are always vulnerable & end up being easy target for men. The analogy they drew was another bitter truth they both highlighted because they have seen men from all walks of life, feeling entitled & expecting to be treated a certain way by women who are on their own.
A Meaningful Conversation
The most important part of this episode definitely was the conversation Farhad had with W&D Dervish. The dialogues were profound & meaningful & I will honestly say I enjoyed listening to Farhad’s questions getting thoroughly answered by the Dervish. I will still say I chuckled when at the beginning Farhad asked him who he was because Farhad may not know but the viewers have so far understood that the Dervish happens to be the writer & director of his journey but yes, apart from that, the rest of the conversation proceeded nicely. This was definitely the first time Farhad’s love was given a new direction. He was shown that using this force of love, he could walk on a very different path, the only pre-requisite was the honesty & steadfastness that he needed to hold onto. I felt this conversation linked Farhad’s Mohabbat to the aspect of Khuda that was so far missing in his journey & the rest of the story. I am hoping after this episode, I’ll get to see the beginning of Farhad’s spiritual journey where he will rediscover himself & understand the true purpose of his life. This was definitely a conversation that was much needed for Farhad to at least have a direction or to understand what he needed to do rather than just wasting his life over a heartbreak. Although Farhad had his own reservations, which stated that he wanted to stay unseen, he didn’t want any attention & also didn’t want to get recognized. It now keeps me intrigued whether Dervish will also encourage Farhad to pursue the love of his life because this seems to be his intention, otherwise he wouldn’t have sent Farhad to Mahi’s house without a reason.
Mahi on her own struggled but this time around, she wasn’t alone & at least had Sahiba as her support system. Another interesting moment in this episode was when Mahi held onto that Taveez & in her mind, she linked it to Farhad’s existence. That Taveez reminded her of Farhad & she couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that it was him who brought it to her place & somewhere down the line, he had something to do with it. Another important development was Farhad finding out about the tragic death of Taimoor, which made him think about all the things he said to her on a parting note. I think more than anything, it’s now time for Farhad to at least feel guilty about his approach towards Mahi’s rejection. Although there’s no need to give such importance to his bad-dua but at least for him, it is going to serve as an eye-opener where he will be forced to reflect where he went wrong.
An Enjoyable Episode
I honestly enjoyed this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 after weeks, so much so that it is making me look forward to the next episode, particularly for the moment when Mahi will come to meet Farhad. I really hope that now when the story is finally picking up, they really don’t drag it & stop with the progress. I still feel for Mahi because right now she is dealing with so much & just when she was about to find the clarity she needed, she will be presented with yet another proposal which she will find hard to reject. Mahi has been through so much, therefore she needs a break but that doesn’t seem to be the case, not in the near future at least. Once again, Mahi will be torn between what she wants & what is expected of her. Mahi also is in limbo when it comes to Farhad because she clearly told Sahiba that before leaving, she wants to meet him for the last time, which goes to show that the thought of being with him has never once crossed her mind. She understands that they two are very different in every single aspect, however, his thought hasn’t stopped running through her mind. This is another aspect that leaves Mahi’s feelings for him unexplored & maybe, she will get the chance, now that she is free from all obligations as Taimoor’s wife.
After weeks, I can say that I saw the potential in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 & felt that this still had a lot of margin of redeeming itself, let’s hope the drama-makers meet the expectations & keep it to the point in the remaining episodes. Also, I have always said that I do not like the flashbacks but this was one such episode where I did not mind the flashbacks with the OST echoing in the background. It goes to show that when the situation demands, flashbacks also end up being enjoyable. It was nice to see both Mahi & Farhad reminiscing about the moments they have shared. Props to Feroze Khan & Iqra Aziz for their brilliant performances. Feroze Khan was definitely the star of this episode because he made it very easy to understand the emotional turmoil Farhad was faced with.
