Besharam Episode 21 Review – Strong Personalities Galore!
Ohkay so, this episode of Besharam was amazing but a little on the slower side, but I am sure things are about to spice up because a lot is going to happen in the upcoming episodes, that is why this episode just slightly touched on those aspects & established the grounds for what is yet to come.
Mishi got to know that Manan was interested in Humna. To be honest, I thought she’d jump with joy & will fully support Manan’s decision of marrying Humna, but her reservations considering Sara’s attitude were even though understandable but weren’t necessary. Manan is an independent guy who has made all the important decisions of his life himself, that is why even though he has made up his mind, he was just giving Sara some respect as a mother but sadly, she chose to show that she’s still the same person who doesn’t believe in looking beyond the false standards that do not matter to Manan. Sara herself admitted that Humna was a nice girl, so then I don’t really understand what was stopping her from approving Manan’s choice? Probably her ego! Mishi on the other hand told Manan that no one in Sara’s house will accept Humna but then again, like he said, Humna’ll end up going to the US with him, therefore Mishi’s disapproval was not only unexpected but was unjustified too.
Sikandar & Shakira can see what mistake Qadeer was about to make by getting married to Neelam, that is why they not only talked to him about their concerns but also convinced him that Humna was the right choice for him. Now that Sakira & Sikandar have admitted their mistakes, I think especially Shakira is being selfish, because she has seen what can happen to her & her husband if a girl like Neelam becomes their daughter-in-law, they are ready to put a lid on the past & opt for Humna again.
I like how Haider balances between his mother, his wife & his sister. When he spent enough time with Mishi, he then came to his mother to listen to what she had to say & later sat with Humna to know what was running through her mind as well. I guess Humna’s forlorn face would’ve gotten some context if they had shown that she spotted Qadeer & Neelam together, because that would’ve given us a closer look into what her reaction was & how deeply she was hurt. Even though Khadija touched on the fact that Humna was sad because of Qadeer, I wish they hadn’t deprived us of those scenes because it would’ve added more weight to Humna’s predicament.
Mishi got to know what sort of articles were being published about her. Even though Mishi wasn’t hurt for herself, she was more concerned about what Haider must be going through & the pressures he must be facing. Mishi knows that even on the surface Haider might diss all these lies, but in the sub-conscious he might end up paying attention to what was being said about her, that is why once again Mishi tried to assure herself by asking her husband if he will always love & support her. I love the way they have shown how both the husband & wife console each other when one of them feels vulnerable.
The episode ended at a very depressing note, Haider’s car was attacked & Mishi found out about it. Even though in the beginning they showed a conversation that Haider was having with his colleague about what his heart was telling him to do & what Asfand Sultan was suggesting him, they didn’t cover much after that because if they had, this attack would’ve had a context too that just because Haider exposed the CM, the CM ended up threatening Haider with his life. They didn’t cover what Haider did, as in did he follow his heart or did he follow what Asfand, because that was something important that needed to be addressed to show how Haider was dealing with the entire pressure & if he was falling prey to Asfand’s trap a bit too easily or he was doing everything based on his own intelligence by still protecting Mishi’s name & reputation.
Overall, like always, I had a great time watching this episode. I love love love the fact that all the characters have such strong personalities. Sara is strong in her own accord & even Manan is strong because of which he was quite decisive about Humna. Very rarely we get to see a personality clash done well in our dramas & honestly speaking, I love seeing how all these strong & opinionated people react in different situations. I must say the writer has done a commendable job where she not only showed us two strong main leads, but gave so much of depth & personality to the supporting characters too, which makes the entire journey quite interesting & engaging. I can’t wait to see the next episode because even though the precap curbed the fear that something might happen to Haider, what I am more interested to see is how Mishi will share her inhibitions about Asfand’s generosity & what Haider’s reaction will be. Please share your thoughts about yet another amazing episode of Besharam.

Indian films are a necessity for cinema industry, Humayun Saeed
Pakistani cinema owners and film distributors have announced to voluntarily stop screening and buying of Indian films till the normalcy in relationships with India returns. The step was taken after various hostile actions against Pakistani artists in India. Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) announced a formal ban on casting of any Pakistani artists in an Indian film. Hindu Extremist organizations like Maharashtra Noniriman Sena (MNS) threatened Pakistani artists and concerts of Pakistani singers were cancelled. Similarly Pakistani dramas were also banned by Zee Zindagi the only channel in India which airs the Pakistani content.
Though the screening of Indian movies is stopped for the moment but Indian television content is airing without any restriction on 8 – 10 entertainment channels like Geo Kahani, ARY Zindagi, Times, Express Entertainment, Urdu1, Filmazia, TV One, APlus, ATV, Aaj Entertainment, Play Entertainment, 8XM, Jalwa.
Coming back to the decision of film distributors and cinema owners to stop screening of Indian films. This decision has generally received appreciation on social media, but the cinema owners and film distributors have also raised concerns for the consequences of this decision on the cinema industry of Pakistan.
Humayun Saeed the leading artist and producer of films and dramas has opposed this decision. As per BBC Urdu, Humayun Saeed has said that at the moment Indian films are a necessity for the survival of cinema business in Pakistan. Pakistan should not follow the Indian footsteps and show patience in this regard.
We (majority of us) all watch the illegally imported copies of Indian films in our homes via DVDs, so what is wrong in it, if the same are legally screened in the cinemas.
At this point of time the cinema industry of Pakistan needs Indian films for its survival as currently Pakistani film industry is not in a position to provide support to the cinema industry. For the survival of the cinema industry a new film is required every week, whereas we only produce a handful of movies in a year.
Humayun further added that he never supported any restriction on the screening of the Indian movies in Pakistan. He only supports a reduced number of shows on long holidays festive occasions like Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha to provide space for the local films on such events. But apart from such occasions there should be no restriction in the rest of the year.

Sanam Episode 04 Review – Taking Bechargi To a Whole New Level!
Ohkay so, this episode of Sanam was quite slow & focused more on elevating the level of Harib’s bechargi, whereas Aila’s psychological disorder got no coverage, which should’ve been the focal point right from the beginning, but then, who’s concerned about showing the right thing, right?
Aila, just on the basis of her assumption accused Harib of cheating on her & in stead of dealing with his own issues like a man, Harib chose to depend on his ‘friend’ Shehroz to do the heavy-lifting. I don’t get one thing, Harib got married to Aila for himself after ‘thinking things through’, so why does he depend on his friend so much so that he literally walks away from his personal problems & in stead of trying to do the damage control himself, he expects Shehroz to do everything for him? Marriages don’t work that way where every single time, in stead of talking things out, you depend on an external entity to do things for you, but then again, that has been the writer’s agenda since day 1, where she is trying to show us everything to make us feel that this marriage ‘shouldn’t’ work since Harib is deprived of peace, tranquility & anda paratha rolls in this marriage!
Honestly speaking, they tried to show both Shehroz & Aila in such a negative light, but all this while, in stead of feeling their negativity, I was wondering if there was ‘one’ decent decision that Harib has made in his life? He has failed in choosing a good friend for himself & he has also failed in choosing a wife that completed & complemented him. All this shows that Harib lacks the basic sense of judgment & he can’t really read people, whereas they have shown Harib as a self-made man who has achieved a lot in his life single-handedly, so I guess they shouldn’t have shown him as such a slow-witted person, who couldn’t understand what his ‘friend’ was trying to insinuate. Aila obviously has some issues & even Harib knows that now, so I guess he should’ve known better that taking a breakfast tray to her room & calling her ‘Aila Jaan’ isn’t enough. Harib needs to educate himself on how he should deal with Aila when she is having such ‘episodes’ but he goes into this mode of self-pity that doesn’t allow him to think straight!
Aan’s mother was heart-broken & so was Aan, but it was good to see that Aan tried to assure her mother that Harib’s wife was mistaken & also, Aan’s mother chose to support her daughter. I liked the fact that after feeling a little low, Aan’s mother rebounded & went back to being her old self. Mrs. Shaukat got to meet Harib & that’s when she realized that just like Aan was innocent in this situation who got accused for no good reason, Harib was a bigger, rather an ultimate bechara who was dealing with so much baggage already. In just a single meeting, in stead of telling his new-found mother the truth about Aila’s psychological condition, Harib chose to tell her that chapter of their story which would make her feel bad for him only, which is why in the next scene while preparing breakfast for Harib, Mrs. Shaukat chose to call Aila ‘shukki’ & that explains all!
Aila & Shehroz’s scenes were actually hard to watch. It is so obvious that in stead of helping Harib, Shehroz is doing everything to create a rift between Aila & him. Shehroz has been dependent on Harib financially & that is why, he shamelessly mooches off Harib & just when Harib expects him to pay back by emotionally supporting him, Shehroz back-stabs him. I am not sure how long are they going to stretch this chapter where Harib will continue to trust Shehroz & Shehroz will continue to back-stab him. I wish Harib finds out about his intentions soon enough to spare us some more psychotic drama that Shehroz has started!
Overall, this episode was quite average. Hareem Farooq’s acting was definitely better in this episode but I am afraid that it can’t be said about the choice of her clothes. Maya Ali is amazing as Aan but I felt that she was emoting a little too much in some scenes. I guess Maya Ali needs to contain her expressions in some scenes because I feel acting should come naturally to her since she has garnered a lot of experience by now. OKB, well, he hasn’t done anything extraordinary so far but yes I will thank him for making me giggle with the bechari look that he had pasted on his face throughout the episode. Since this drama is showing us something new, so let’s appreciate them for the fact that we have seen so many women who get walked out on by their husbands, but this time around, it is the husband who is in the bechari light & it was his wife who chose to walk out on him, so yeah, that was interesting LOL & honestly, I have no sympathies for Harib’s character because BOI, you jumped into that pit yourself, so you should know that you need to come out of it on your own too. Also, I totally respect all those actors who are playing the role of Shaukat Qureshi’s family, but I actually pity them because their scenes are so uninteresting & boring that they don’t give me anything to talk about, sorry guys your talent & your efforts are being wasted in this drama. Well, the precap of the next episode was quite ‘interesting’ where we will get to hear some very clichéd dialogues & some typical reactions like slaps but what’s amusing is that time around, the victim of ‘domestic abuse’ is a man & not a woman, haha! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this ‘amazing’ episode of Sanam. ;)

Cheers,

ps: My apologies to all my dear readers for such a late review. It was a long weekend here & I was out with family friends, so, long story short, I couldn’t watch & review Sanam on time & I know you guys understand. <3 :)
Things people love about Mahira
Mahira khan, a VJ turned into an actress is currently living in the hearts of millions of people out there. She is undoubtedly one of the best things that happened to Pakistani film and drama industry. From good looks to great acting skills, this actress is bestowed upon with every single thing that makes her stand out in the crowd. She may be one of the most adored actresses in the country right now, whose childlike innocence, girly sophistication and flawless looks many look forward to watching in the evenings in order to forget the tribulations of their day.
Here are the few facts that are admired by her fans:
Comfortable in her ‘OWN’ skin:
When we hear the word ‘naturally beautiful’ the first thing that comes to our mind is ravishing Mahira Khan! Minimal makeup enhances her beauty in such a way that people are left in awe. Blessed with a perfect skin, Mahira Khan looks confident even in no makeup look. Her un-plucked eyebrows show the rawness of her enchanting beauty!
Down-to-Earth nature:
We have seen her in number of celebrity talk shows. She is so easy going and cordial that someone can even doubt her ‘Stardom’. Many of our actresses are self absorbed and think so high of themselves that it reduces their fan following but Mahira is simply not like that. She once was insulted by a phone caller on Faisal Qureshi’s show but she didn’t lose her patience and tackled the matter with maturity. Her simplicity and cordiality have won a lot of more fans for her. Even her haters can’t deny that fact!
The New ‘Hum TV Girl’:
The title previously owned by Ayesha Khan now fits perfectly on Mahira! Hum TV has always been her first choice maybe because of good production values and a huge viewership. The quality of HUM TV dramas has deteriorated in past few years because of the TRP race, stretching dramas unnecessarily and depending more on ‘Cast’ rather than the storyline. But still HUM TV launches one or two quality plays once every year and Mahira makes sure her presence in them. The recent example is ‘Bin Roye’.
‘NOT SO PERFECT’ but perfect features:
We often find people criticizing Mahira for her ordinary looks especially her ‘Nose’. But one thing is for sure that her nose perfectly fits in her face. Never did she opt for any ‘nose reshaping’ technique though once she said in her interview that she was asked by a director to go for a one. Khan has tons of confidence in herself that she didn’t find any need to go for any enhancement in her features. She knows how to carry red lipstick. Even her nude lips are equally gorgeous.
Dressing Sense:
So who can carry any style with utmost brilliance? That’s none other than Mahira Khan. Yes, from her Red Carpet looks to those dresses she wears in her dramas, we find perfection in every style she carries. In Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat, she carried Eastern and Western look with ease and brilliance. People drooled over the dresses she wore in both of them. It’s not the dress that catches the attention but the style of Khan that wins the game for her. That’s why she looked equally beautiful in plane Kurtas in Humsafar. She is truly a style icon and a fashion Diva.
The Choices She Makes:
Never did we find her opting for a role having lower potential than her set standards. Be it Khirad, Falak, Shano or Saba of Bin Roye, she always left a mark with her performance. She does a project almost once every year but makes it sure that it hits the right place, Yes, the hearts of the people. It seems like Khan believes in quality rather than quantity. She is a ‘Beauty with brains’. Many of our actresses are seen in two to three dramas at a time that people take them casually but when Khan signs a drama it’s a ‘must watch’ for all!
Powerful Screen Presence:
You can disagree but there is a charm in her personality that makes her viewers glued to the screens. Her presence is enough to assure you that you have invested your time in a right place. The roles she performs, if would have been given to some other actresses, might not be translated as flawlessly as they were by Mahira Khan.
So here are the few things people love about Mahira. Do share your thoughts please.

Like Hoccane Sisters, Sohai Ali Abro Disappoints Her Fans!
For a good actress/ model good looks, acting skills, good outfits all carry importance but everything looks good in certain limits. Sohai has previously done many good dramas, then she also appeared on the silver screen and worked really well. Sohai lately was the show stopper at Pfdc L’oreal Paris Bridal Week for Shamsa Hashwani.
The time when Sohai disappointed her fans was when she was backstage and the kind of outfit she was wearing. The skinny jeans and short tummy-revealing top was extremely bold and made her look vulgar instead of looking modern and trendy.
The models/ actresses should differentiate between looking attractive and unacceptable!

India’s CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nihalani says, that ban on Pakistani artists is unjustifiable.
Though majority of the artists and officials in India are in support of banning Pakistani artists but on the other hand India’s Central Board of Film Certification chief Pahlaj Nihalani do not consider this step right.
When the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) banned the Pakistani artists from working in India Nihalani said, “To give a visa to any Pakistani is the sole decision of the government, and we as producers and actors, are saying they are not terrorists and that art and culture should never come in between.”
Nihalani clearly supported Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan in their decision of casting Pakistani celebrities Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan in their films as the relationships between the two countries were good and now banning these movies Aae Dil Hai Mushki and Raees seem completely wrong to him.
Nihalani said, “These artistes who have worked in these films should not be asked to leave. They have every right to work here.”
The Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi also agreed with Nihalani and said, “Logically speaking, blocking the release of the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma-Aishwarya Rai starrer at this point of time will have zilch effect on Fawad Khan! The man has taken his fees for acting in the film and is happily back at home in Lahore now.”
Rathi made a very intelligent point that its not Fawad Khan who will suffer butthe ban will effect the Dharma Productions , Ranbir Kapoor, who is an Indian actor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, again an Indian actor and film exhibitors across India.
Indians should realize that banning Pakistani stars wont cause any loss to Pakistan but to their own film industry.

Bin Roye Episode 1 Review – Stunning Visuals!
Written by: Farhat Ishtiaq
Directed by: Shehzad Kashmiri – Haissam Hussain

Cast: Mahira Khan, Hamayun Saeed, Armeena Rana Khan, Zeba Bakhtiar, Javed Sheikh, Jahanzeb Khan, Azra Mansoor, Junaid Khan, Mujtaba Khan, Gulfam Ramay
Every Sunday at 8pm on HUM TV
The expectations attached to Bin Roye were humongous, it was the most awaited drama serial of this year because of multiple reasons. This first episode of Bin Roye started a new era of dramas which will take the filminess in dramas to a whole new level. The introduction to the characters was done in a simple yet impactful manner. Saba (Mahira Khan) and Irtiza’s (Hamayun Saeed) track was the main focus of attention in tonight’s episode. The episode opened with Saba and Irtiza walking in a house in San Francisco which was once a home but now it only brought back memories which caused more pain than happiness perhaps because someone close to them both was no more. This first scene was powerful and gave those viewers who were unfamiliar with the story (like myself) a good reason to find out what had actually happened. This is when the viewers were transported to the past in which they found out more about the relationship between Saba and Irtiza and all the other characters involved.
All the love and attention which Irtiza had given Saba right from the day she was born had convinced her that Irtiza belonged to her alone. For Saba Irtiza’s presence was like oxygen in her life because she was more close to him than any other person in her house. Irtiza had been raised by Saba’s mother (Zeba Bakhtiar) because his parents passed away when he was only 8 years old. He found a companion in Saba when she was born and since then these two cousins have a very strong bond. Saba refused to call Irtiza bhai because she considered him her best friend. In one of the scenes she did call him bhai though which was clearly a blooper which should have been edited out. The best thing about the scenes which revealed Saba’s feelings for Irtiza was that they were short and to the point. There weren’t a lot of dialogues in this episode between the grown up Saba and Irtiza but the scene in which she goes to see the chand pretty much summed up how she felt about her relationship with Irtiza. The scenes showed them as best friends and not as people who were romantically involved.
The fact that Saba got tons of love from her father and grandmother went to show that she wasn’t turning to Irtiza because she had no one else around her who would shower her with love. Saman’s background story was also revealed in this episode. Saman and Saba are sisters but Saman was adopted by her mamu when she was born because he did not have any kids. The scene in which Saman finds out that she was adopted seemed odd at first because a girl her age wouldn’t have been able to understand that conversation but later on her conversation with Saba on the swing suggested that Saman was wise beyond her years. I am in two minds about that scene because watching such a little kid eavesdropping didn’t quite fit in. It also seemed like Saman’s mother made a conscious effort to ensure that she did not spend a lot of time in that house perhaps because she was insecure. Although she said that her father planned the trip for her but somehow it felt like that was not the case. The scene later on in which she apologized to Zeba Bakhtiyar’s character for the short trip showed that her character would keep us guessing. The child star playing Saba’s character in particular was the perfect choice for playing the role.
Three things stood out in this episode more than any other – Saba’s character, the chemistry between the leads and the stunning visuals. Mahira Khan looked incredibly pretty and she made the first impression of Saba’s character very likeable. Saba’s character was shown as possessive but not dominating in any way. Also, this episode was beautifully shot, every scene was visually pleasing. Farhat Ishtiaq’s drama Udaari was full of messages, something tells me that this one is going to focus on entertaining the audience and might turn out to be emotional. Hamayun Saeed made the perfect comeback with Dillagi and I am waiting to see if Irtiza is going to be as appealing as Mohid. Hamayun Saeed just like Mahira Khan is not only a great performer but he also has great screen presence. In this episode Irtiza was introduced as a very kind hearted man who believes in loving everyone. The song in the drama was beautifully sung, directed and choreographed. It had quite a few cute scenes to its credit, especially the one in which Irtiza pulls Saba’s hair! Sarmad Khoosat’s guest appearance did not go unnoticed!
Overall, this episode was entertaining and it served its main purpose of introducing the main characters flawlessly. The appealing visuals made it the kind of episode which you can watch over and over again. Bin Roye has a very talented writer, two immensely gifted directors, a star cast and a big production house to back it all up therefore we expect nothing but the best from it. The preview of the next episode showed that Saba will have to learn to live without Irtiza only too soon! The leading characters have tons of potential and their ties with each other are very interesting, definitely looking forward to what the Bin Roye team has in store for us.
How many of you watched this episode of Bin Roye? Do share your thoughts about it.

Salman Khan Receives Severe Criticism For Supporting Pakistani Stars
In a recent Press meeting the super star Salman Khan supported the Pakistani actors and regarding the ban of Pakistani celebrities Salman said, “Pakistani artistes are just artistes and not terrorists. Art and terrorism should not be mixed. Ideal situation should have been that of peace. But, now a reaction to an action has happened. It was a proper action as they were terrorists. But still in this day and age, I think if we lived in peace and harmony it would have been better for everyone and especially for common people”.
In reaction to Salmans comments the Shiv Sena leader said “Salman should migrate to Pakistan”.
Another leader of MNS Shalini Thackeray said, “Film stars should understand the sentiments of the people under the current circumstances. People are very angry and actors like Salman Khan should respect them. If Pakistani artistes do not condemn the wrongdoings of their country, why can our film stars not respect the Indian sentiment. Bollywood is not bigger than the country.”
It seems not only Shiv Sena is offended with Salman Khan comments but many others have a look at these tweets.

Balu Mahi is a travel film with main ingredients of romance and comedy in and probably that’s the reason that its being released in the Valentine’s Day week.

Thora Sa Aasman Episode 10 Review – Things Are About To Fall Apart!
Ohkay so, the story & the direction is one thing but another thing that is working for me the most in this drama is the pace. I love how the director so far has succeeded in keeping all the episodes quite happening. The way the story has been developing in each & every episode is making it a very interesting watch. I like how things are not being dragged & every episode brings a lot of changes with it.
We got to see how Mansoor was struggling in his marriage with Muneeza. Mansoor has been an ideal husband & a very good father, he never faltered in fulfilling his responsibilities but seems like Muneeza got a little too comfortable in her life that she forgot that she had some duties towards her husband too. Muneeza & Ambar are very much alike, they both are stubborn & love to have things their way, but one thing that sets Ambar apart is the kindness in her heart & how she puts her privileges to good use. Muneeza on the other hand is quite self-absorbed, which is why she has started taking Mansoor for granted & she doesn’t even realize it. For the first time we saw that Mansoor started drawing some comparisons between his wife & his secretary who gave him the utmost attention, which actually suggested that things were about to fall apart & Muneeza was not doing anything to help the situation further!
Things have been quite rocky between Shahista & Kamal too. On the surface, they might seem like a perfect couple, living a life of luxury but only Shahista knows what she is going through because the remembrance of her lost child hasn’t allowed her to move forward & accept her kids because she is still stuck in the past. Shahista till date hasn’t forgotten about Shaheer & that is why, she decided to hire someone to find him.
Rakshi saw how a single phone call from Mansoor was enough to put an end to her misery, may be that’s why she got a little more attentive towards Mansoor as she wanted to compensate & reciprocate the kindness he has extended towards her so far & that is what gave Mansoor an edge to draw a comparison between Muneeza & Rakshi. Muneeza can’t stand Rakshi & that is why she flipped out the moment she found out that Mansoor has not only hired her but has been spending time with her. Shabana used that card to get back at Muneeza because till date, Shabana assumed that Muneeza & Mansoor had a perfect relationship, but when she spotted Mansoor with Rakshi, she realized that Muneeza’s position wasn’t as strong as Shabana always thought it was.
I like the fact that just when things start to settle, the director introduces new set of characters. This time around, we got to see Roshaan, Mansoor’s son who came back from abroad after completing his studies. Then we also got to see Fatima & her kids. Fatima has raised 3 children out of which 2 are the twins that Zarka gave birth to, that made an appearance in this episode. Both the siblings shared a typical sibling moment with each other where the brother teased his sister & she was mad at him. I enjoyed watching the new entries & I must say, I am really really happy that finally Fatima’s character has made an entry again in the story, which definitely tells that things are going to get a lot more interesting.
So, Ambar once again told Haroon Kamal how she can’t stand him & how she doesn’t like his attention or his company. May be that’s why we saw what Haroon Kamal did by planting a seed in Mansoor’s mind that he should get married to his secretary for the sake of business. Haroon Kamal is someone who always believes in getting back at the person who insults him & he always settles the score in a very odd way, so this is what made me feel that he told Mansoor to get married to Rakshi because he knew that this way, Ambar will suffer emotionally & that will give him immense pleasure of ruining her perfect little life where she has been a center of everyone’s attention, especially her father’s. Haroon Kamal understood that Ambar was a tough cookie to crack, so that is why he targeted her Achilles heel & targeted that relationship which he knew would hurt & affect her the most.
Even though Mansoor was thinking on those lines, but a little bit of push from Haroon Kamal was enough for him to wage a war against Muneeza, that is why, the moment Muneeza tried to confront him, Mansoor told her that she was just a liability in his life, nothing more nothing less. It seems that even Rakshi has started to spend time with Mansoor & may be she has given him some kind of hope, because of which he gave Muneeza such a harsh reaction when she spoke against Rakshi.
Overall, this episode was quite happening too. In this particular episode, I liked how there wasn’t a continuity between the scenes, even though everything seemed a little haphazard, that is what kept things quite interesting. A lot of things were happening at all the fronts & everyone was dealing with one thing or another, which made the episode quite engaging. I must say, the director has tackled this script brilliantly so far & I am sure things are going to stay the same till the drama will last. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Thora Sa Aasmaan.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
Laaj – Episode 9 – Khoon kay badlay….shaadi?!
Well! This was an interesting episode to watch with Bari Sahab struggling to accept Zainab as a sacrificial lamb and trying everything she can to avoid this marriage from taking place. She pays Sikander a visit and offers him more than double the amount of villages he demanded but that he take the condition of Zainab and Dilawar’s marriage back. Knowing how greedy Sikander is I was a bit surprised he did not seem to at least consider the offer but then true to form, he explains to his son later that with Zainab wed to Dilawar Bari Sahab hamaray neechay lag jaye gee and that seemingly gives him far more satisfaction than numerous amount of villages and land in his name.
Charlie Chaplin ka desi bhai informs Jahanzeb about the latest developments and his thoughts later Kaash Allah mujhay ek mauka day day, mein tumharay saaray khwaab pooray karoon ga Zainab makes me wonder if this is an impulsive, emotional moment or whether the sacrifice Zainab has agreed to make has managed to awaken love in Jahanzeb’s heart. Bari Sahab’s teary eyes and expressions show her inner conflict where she is wracked with guilt and grief to be throwing Zainab in the mouth of wolves in exchange for her son’s life. She has loved Zainab with all her heart and does now too, but it is a tough decision to make. Zainab has made it easier for her by offering herself to accept the terms Sikander has set forth.
Alisha and Shahzeb were given very little screen time thankfully, with Alisha throwing her two cents in and Zainab ka number send karo had me laughing. Like really? To quote Bari Sahab from the earlier episodes, kaun kurri hai yeh, kithun chuk laya hai?!! Anyways, Bari Sahab tells Sikander to have Jahanzeb released before the nikkah and that got me thinking whether Bari Sahab has something up her sleeve. My hopes are pretty much crushed when she says to Jahanzeb that she can not go against this decision and there is nothing she can do.
Jahanzeb’s conversation with Zainab was emotional. Jahanzeb’s accusation tu mujh se pyar nahin karti, sirf apni zid poori kar rahi hai was interesting. You know this is what stood out to me in today’s episode. Where emotions such as pride, dignity, revenge are the driving forces in these people’s lives. Not once does Jahanzeb say anything along the lines of how he feels about Zainab but that his pride can not take that she live such a life in exchange for his. How Zainab says there is no other way for she can not take back her word. How Bari Sahab proudly declares that Jahanzeb was right to kill Sajjad to avenge his daughter’s honor. These people have a code of life which they firmly believe in and logic takes a back seat to any of these emotions when taking a decision.
I can not help wonder how Mannat fits in all this. When Bari Sahab earlier had Mannat wed to Sikander, true she did it in the hope of having relations between the families improve but she has known Sikander forever and you would think a shrewd woman like her would not agree to such a proposal when clearly Mannat would be better off elsewhere? Surely she could see it was a gamble at best. The way Bari Sahab is suffering at the thought of handing Zainab over to Sikander and his family, did she not feel any apprehension earlier. I agree, there had been no bloodshed then either but still she could have agreed to assign some land to Sikander if she wanted to improve relations, not offer her only grandchild as a peace token! But then as was highlighted in one of the earlier episodes, lands and property to Bari Sahab and Sikander held much more meaning than just a piece of land and was more a play of ego and power and respect. Sigh.
Jahanzeb has made it clear that he will not allow this marriage to take place. Wonder how he can prevent that from happening? The ending scene of this episode although seemed like a dream come true for Zainab makes me think whether it was just that – a dream? In which case I will personally go hand over Zainab to Sikander and Dilawar myself, aargh! Asma Abbas today as always was flawless as Bari Sahab and I was struck how apt the casting had been done in the scene when Jahanzeb returns from jail with Shahzeb and Mannat greets him. They did look like father and daughter in that scene. The scene between Jahanzeb and Zainab was interesting but I kept waiting for Jahanzeb to burst out that he loves Zainab – but alas, he did not. Nayyar Ejaz as Sikander is also truly convincing as the greedy, crafty old man that is portraying. Interested to see how Bari Sahab will be able to wriggle herself and her loved ones out of this mess. Any ideas – would love to hear your thoughts!

Border Clashes Between India And Pakistan – Celebrities’ Reactions From Both Sides
The recent border clashes between India and Pakistan had a big impact on the entertainment industry on both sides in various ways. Soon after the clashes a very tense situation led to a ban on airing of Indian films in Pakistan. Also, the extremist parties in India pressurized authorities to ban Pakistani actors from working in India. Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association banned Pakistani actors, singers and technicians from working in their country. There are many upcoming Bollywood films in which Pakistanis are either acting or they have given the music for it. The scheduled concerts of Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali were cancelled. All these developments show that the recent clashes will not make it easy for Pakistanis to continue working in India.
These border clashes have put especially those artists who have worked in India in a very tough spot. On one side some Indian celebrities expect these Pakistanis to side with India because they feel that India did the right thing and on the other side of course Pakistanis are waiting for their response but many of them are pretending that nothing ever happened. While top Indian celebrities have shown support for their army by congratulating them but most of the Pakistani celebrities are either quiet or they are ‘neutral’ as Hamza Ali Abbasi pointed out.
Here are some reactions from top Indian celebrities:
There are on the other hand some Indian celebrities like Salman Khan and Mahesh Bhatt who are not afraid of supporting Pakistani artists and do not support this war.
Among Pakistani celebrities Shaan Shahid and Hamza Ali Abbasi are the only ones who are supporting their army without sounding like war mongers. They are also rightly criticizing those celebrities who are only quiet because they do not want to severe their ties with India.
Hamayun Saeed didn’t say anything himself but he retweeted a news post from ARY which did give the right message.
Salman Ahmed also gave Adnan Sami Khan a fitting reply to his tweets in which he supported Indian army and then later said that the reaction of Pakistanis to his tweets showed that Pakistanis must think that terrorism and Pakistan is one and the same thing.
Shahid Afridi also tweeted in favour of peace.
All these tweets without a doubt prove that while most Pakistani celebrities are hesitant to support their army because they are either working in India or want to work in India, the Indian celebrities went all out and supported their army. Sajal Aly while talking to Dawn said that artists should not be dragged into all this. Is this kind of ‘neutrality’ right or wrong? Is supporting their own army at this time not an option for some Pakistani artists because they are afraid that they might lose their projects in India?
Artists should stay away from war no doubt but they should be able to show support for their army without the fear that they will offend someone. Shaan Shahid and Hamza Ali Abbasi are doing it and we want to see more artists showing support for their army, not for war. As Hamza Ali Abbasi said, right now neutrality is betrayal.
Mahira Khan at PFDC Loreal Bridal Week
Usually the Bin Roye star, Mahira looks really beautiful in her different shoots but this time at the 6th edition of the PFDC Loreal Bridal Week Mahira did not appeal much to me at least. Though she was wearing amazing Jewelry pieces and a very beautiful Jorra too! There were two things which did not look nice on her her hairstyle and the nose ring. What are your views about the way she is looking?
Abdullah The Final Witness releasing on 14th October 2016
Abdullah The Final Witness, is a film announced around 2013. This film is already screened at Cannes festival 2015. The film is produced, written and directed by famous fiction writer Hashim Nadeem. There is a misconception that this film is based on the novel Abdullah also written by Hashim Nadeem. Hashim Nadeem hails from Quetta, Balochistan and the film is also based in Quetta.
The film is based on the incident of 17 May 2011 happened in Quetta. The incident is known as Kharotabad incident in which five Russian and Tajik citizen (men and women) were killed by Frontier Constabulary (FC) claimed to be as terrorist at the check post of Kharotabad. The incident was filmed by a journalist and later media aired same videos claiming all the killed ones were innocent citizen. Then Chief Justice of Pakistan took sou motto notice of this incident, and a commission was asked to prepare the Kharotabad Inquiry Report. The findings of the inquire were never made public and the case is still unresolved. A key witness of this incident was murdered in Quetta in December 2011.
The trailer of the film was released in January 2015 while the film was expected to release in the summer of 2015. However as the subject of the film involves the role of security agencies, which is considered sensitive; the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) refused to issue the censor certificate required to screen a film in cinemas despite multiple meetings with Hashim Nadeem.
The fate of the film became uncertain until today when the distributor announced that the film is finally releasing.

Films in Fall 2016
The fourth and last quarter (October – December) of the year 2016 has started. The first two quarters of the year 2016 have proved disappointing for the local cinema where only two films Ho Mann Jahan (January) and Bachaana (February) proved successful. Both the films were released in the first quarter (January – March) of 2016. The second quarter (April – June) saw back to back struggle of local films like Hijrat, Hotal, Maalik, Mahe Mir, Aksbandh though Maalik performed a little better.
The third quarter (July – September) has been a mixed one, both the festive occasions of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha fall in it. In the third quarter there were many struggling films like Swaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka, Revenge of the Worthless, Ishq Positive, Blind Love, Dance Kahani. But there are also some successful films like Actor In Law, Janaan as well as Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai. All the three later films are released on Eidul Azha in September 2016.
In the fourth and last quarter of 2016, no Urdu film is releasing in October 2016 for multiple reason like
The first month of Islamic Hijri Calendar Muharram is falling in October. Traditionally no local film is released in the first ten days of Muharram.
Three main stream Urdu films are already released on Eidul Azha 13th September 2016 which are still earning well, so any further local release will compete for space with these Eid releases.
The Hinduism festive occasion of Diwali is also coming in October when some big banner Bollywood films are scheduled. Due to huge demand among cine goers a large proportion of the limited space and shows available in cinemas is allotted to these Bollywood movies. Two major Bollywood films Shivay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil are expected to release on 28th October 2016 the weekend before Diwali.
In December 2016 the last month of the year, festive occasion and holiday of Christmas comes on 25th December on which some major Bollywood film is also scheduled. This year a Bollywood film Dangal is expected to release on 23rd December 2016. So in between October and December, almost a total of five or six weeks are considered a favorable window to release a local Urdu film. These five or six weeks span from start of November and last till mid of December. During this time frame absence of major Bollywood film provides considerable space to local films to perform.
This year during the same time period five Urdu films are scheduled to release.

Intezaar – Episode 17 – Shaadi Mubarak!
Remember our board game? Maami’s intervention, Shariq’s wedding, Naimat Chacha tracking Zoya down – no game. Then Shariq formally asks for Zoya’s hand in marriage – six! Zoya’s parents are agreeable to the idea – double six! Zoya confesses to her mother that she is in love with Shariq – triple six – except that leads you back to square one, doesn’t it for Naimat Chacha opposes the marriage and announces if Zoya remarries she must give Sameer up. Shame! Anyways, after his wife’s grief and resentment all comes pouring out it opens Naimat Chacha’s eyes and he agrees to the marriage and steps back.
But then Zoya is adamant that her whole family must know about Shariq’s first wife. She has no qualms about being his second wife though for when Shariq’s mother rings her and asks her the reason for her initial refusal and wants to know if Saba was the reason her prompt ‘no no’ made me cringe. True, Shariq and Saba’s marriage is not exactly shaadi of the year but well she is his first wife and I do not know, it would have made me like Zoya a bit more if she was shown to give some thought to Saba and how she is to fit in all this but heck no, all Zoya really thinks about is Zoya herself. I am honestly a bit confused – are we meant to like Zoya? I have never felt so detached and unfeeling about a female lead in a drama before – well none that I can recall right now! All Shariq has ever seen Zoya do is sit, cry or run off to the train station – and that has made this hugely successful and confident man fall hook, line and sinker for Zoya and have her inertia and faarighness rub off on him too?! When she weeps to Shariq keh shadi nahin ho sakti I thought oh man! And then when everyone finally agrees to the marriage she is weeping again ‘I can not lie, I can not forget Azmeer’. If this was meant to be an emotional or touching moment, which I imagine it may have been it fell flat because Zoya’s constant gloom and misery is becoming so stifling that it would have been nice to see her say something positive for a change!
Shariq’s emotional speech broke through any hostility and barriers in Zoya’s household and even Naimat Chacha finally gives his blessing. The conversation between Saba and Shariq was awkward to watch. Shariq’s mother pressured Shariq into the marriage and well, he did marry Saba – where does he plan to fit her in all this? Saba’s excitement over having Zoya to talk to and Sameer to play with was horrifyingly similar to the thoughts of a child excited over the prospect of a mother figure rather than sautan coming! And how does Shariq plan to juggle two marriages?! I am unable to manage two dishes on the stove – while bhunning the chicken, I end up burning the onions in the other one then how does he imagine to manage two wives within the same house and feel he has been fair to both. (Yes, I know I just compared marriage to cooking but oh well!). Yes, I know the marriage between Saba and Shariq is anything but a marriage but well she is his wife and if she is just an inconvenience I would still like to think that he has more consideration and more in mind for her than just another person living in his house.
Saba is shown to be ecstatic over Zoya’s arrival but we see her give into a pensive moment or two and I wonder what is brewing there? Will she begin to feel jealousy now and will Zoya and Shariq mil kar help her recover from her childhood trauma? Why isn’t Maami coming to check on Saba now – I have a feeling she will show up now that Zoya is back.
Interestingly, in today’s episode what I found the most riveting was not Saba’s track (which has taken a back seat for a while anyway) or Shariq and Zoya’s track (yawn) but the scene between Naila and Shahnawaz. When I saw the tears streaming down Naila’s face when her mother in law has her emotional breakdown I wondered if her heart had softened. But she is spitting venom when she taunts Shahnawaz over his ‘grief’ over letting Zoya go. Shahnawaz had lied to his father about being the one not able to impregnate his wife so that nobody would be able to point any fingers at Naila. Can I just say that I wince each time the word kammi is used in this type of conversation. Even if the spouse does not want to hurt the other, to lay the responsibility at the feet of that person with that word just sounds so distasteful to me. It was truly nice to see this side of Shahnawaz though and it was different to see how a man can take this upon himself so as to not have anyone treat his wife less or force him to be unfair to her by remarrying. Normally it is the man who taunts the wife in our dramas and it was really interesting to see Naila do the same for I am sure this is not too far from reality either. Naila is shocked and then thoroughly ashamed of herself. I wonder if Shahnawaz will forgive her for her insensitivity or whether her true colors have made him dislike her now. More than Saba, Shariq and Zoya I am interested to see the outcome of Naila-Shahnawaz – now what does this tell you about the state of this drama, ha!
It was actually a relief to see Sana Javed smiling in the last few scenes of this episode and I hope she has shrugged off her lethargy for good. Seems like she has passed it off to Sameer for kia say kia ho gaya hai but Sameer has just remained in that annoying cushion thing without a single cry or wriggle! Shariq residence seems to be one big happy family – but is it? Intezaar for next week – surprisingly (not!) I am not counting the minutes till then! Glad to know with the comments last week that I am not the only one who tunes into this drama – would love to hear your thoughts on this episode!
