Asim Abbasi helmed ‘Cake’ became the first Pakistani movie ever to have a world premier at Leicester Square in London even though the movie was already one of the most awaited movies of the year it just got to next level after the London premiere.
Albeit the audience awaits for the movie to be released in Pakistan we have just been given another reason to make that ‘wait’ a little more harder since the director Asim Abbasi was awarded the best director accolade for this film at UK Asian Film Festival.
This Sanam Saeed and Amina Sheikh starrer is definitely amongst our list of most anticipated 2018 movies, not only is the title intriguing but the cinematography shown in the teaser trailer is also refreshingly breathtaking.
Making his way from documentaries to films the director Asim Abbas explained that the dominant theme in the movie is that of time during one of his interviews with The Express Tribune he said,
“Time is the connecting thread… Absolutely. It’s time in terms of how people grow old, in terms of how we deal with the past and the regrets people have,”
He further added,
“We are exploring parent-child relationship, how children grow up but remain children for their parents. We are approaching the relationship between siblings and different dynamics within a family and between lovers, but all in a realistic way. We have tried to stay away from melodrama and keep it natural. It’s very emotionally-charged but not melodramatic.”
Explaining the idea behind title Asim said that,
“Cake is like a silent observer at every big moment of our lives. It will be interesting to see how many times the audience will see a cake popping up in the frame.”
When asked of why he chose a title that doesn’t even hint about what the movie is going to be about he said,
“Everyone approaches material differently. For me, having a clear-cut film name was never a thing. I don’t like being direct and giving answers. A film has to have a life beyond two hours in the cinema. I want viewers to carry Cake with them after the film is over.”
Asim also went on to praise the star cast of film adding,
“Adnan was a strange one because he was always in my head, when I was writing. It’s strange because I had not seen Sadqay Tumhare then. But his look stayed with me for the character, And when I met him, I realised he was a director’s actor, who would be open to exploring new territories. Aamina, in hindsight, was the perfect Zareen so I have been lucky.”
Talknig of how the mainstream cinema these days is all about rom-coms while ‘Cake’ seems so unique he said,
“As a director, along the way, we are forced to lose our honesty at some point. We try and make a film, and you have everyone else telling you to do things differently to make it more sellable. Luckily, I had people who had no such requests. I don’t think most people get that opportunity and I don’t think I’ll get that opportunity again,”
On whether Cake will resonate with the larger audience, Abbasi said that he feels most film-makers shoot in the dark.
“I think a writer or director can only do honest work and pray that it resonates with the audience. We are doing a family film, and everyone has families. They know love and loss and grief. Is it a different film from the rest? Yes. But we are too young to say what works and what doesn’t.”
He continued,
“I hope that it works at the box office so that more people have the confidence to make different kinds of films. Because I feel that for every different film that doesn’t do well, we will see more of the same. And I don’t think in the long-term, the industry can’t survive with that.”
He also added,
“Right now, you have businessmen making films. Cinema is called a creative business but in Pakistan, the focus is only on business. It can work for short-term gains, but over time, we won’t build a legacy. Hardcore commercial cinema should definitely be made, as long as people are trying something new and interesting. Every kind of film should be made but with the idea of wanting to be creative.”
The film is set to release March the 30th this spring and we are certainly restless, inject this film in my face already.

Veteran actor Asif Raza is all set to feature in a British-American television series. The story revolves around struggles between rival gangs and other criminal organisations in present-day London.

Pakistani cinema is growing daily, and we are seeing many different films coming out. Eid was a big moment with multiple films coming out and people went to the cinemas despite the crushing inflation we have in Pakistan right now. From comedy to romance and action, the cinema has every kind of film and we just experienced Allahyar, a much-loved animated film. Now we have a new film ready for our screens.
A recent film to debut in the cinemas on the 14th of July is John. This is an independent film starring Ashir Wajahat, Romaisa Khan and Raza Samo alongside other actors. The film’s trailer was quite captivating and it is a serious film shedding light on the realities of society. Does anybody remember Ashir Azeem, writer of drama Dhuwan (Smoke in English) and the lead player in the role of ASP Azhar as well in 1992. Ashir Azeem was the writer/actor who worked in only one drama serial Dhuwan, aired in 1992 from PTV Quetta Center. Dhuwan was a blockbuster drama of its time, very popular among youth audience. It was basically a story of a police officer who worked to combat crime. The drama portrayed a progressive image of police. But after Dhuwan, Ashir never worked in any other drama serial though he made few telefilms.
Now after a gap of more than 20 years Ashir has announced his comeback. As per his official facebook page, he is working on a project named ‘Maalik’ which is expected to be aired in fall 2014. The comment on Ashir’s official facebook page says
“Hi everybody, I have finally decided to do a play. Maalik will go on air this fall. At present i am trying to put together a team of the best possible talent. NOT CAST but the production team. AD1&2, DOP, Location hunters, editors, CGI, Script & screenplay people, post production etc. . . I want to accomplish this task ASAP, so that I can move on. Its too early to comment about story or other aspects of this project. But for admirers of Ashir Azeem, expectations will definitely be on a high side.
As known already the Sindh High Court has lifted the ban on Maalik movie by Ashir Azeem which was previously released on April 8th2016. The ban was placed by the Federal Information Industry. Ashir Azeem considered the ban unfair and persistently fought his case in Sindh High court. Now as the ban is removed and movie is allowed to screen nationwide. The new release date for the movie has been announced and it is 9th September.

Ashfaque Ishaq Satti is a news anchor who got into a huge controversy after his second wife came forward with domestic violence allegations. His wife shared pictures and also registered an FIR against him. He has since gotten pre-arrest bail but he got terminated from ARY News where he was working after humongous public pressure. He also shared his side of the story through some colleagues and said that it was actually his wife who was beating him and when he tried to push her away, she got injured.

Asha Bhosle is an icon in India and all around the world where people listen to music from India and Pakistan. Asha Bhosle was in Germany recently where she was going to mesmerize the audience with her beautiful voice. Asha Bhosle talked to Express Tribune before her concert and in her interview she expressed frustration with the substandard lyrics of the songs that were being written in India nowadays.
While the legend is not happy with the new songs being made in India she is happy that at least Pakistanis are making good songs. She said, ” Today, good lyrics and wordings only come out of Pakistan. People really know their Urdu there. Even though in India, there are many who know Urdu, they don’t write it well.”
Asha Bhosle is a big fan of Pakistani music for many years now. She said, “I have been listening to Ghulam Ali since the 50s. I am a big fan of his. I am also a very big fan of Mehdi Hasan. You see, I love songs, I love music and that is what I believe in. If the music is good, then everything is good. And then it is also ours, irrespective of where it comes from.”
Asha Bhosle had a few arguments with Atif Aslam when she was judging the talent show Sur Kshetra. Talking about that she said, ” Look, Runa Laila was on that show too and she is from Bangladesh. She is my friend. We were all laughing and joking around. Asking each other for advice. But that Aslam, I don’t know, maybe he was taught by someone from the channel that he had to fight with me. Or maybe it’s his nature, I don’t know. Our own Himesh Reshammiya, the Gujarati, he was so quiet. But Aslam constantly tried to rile me up. And I have to say that it was wrong, I was never taking any sides. I also gave good marks to Pakistani singers. I am always only concerned with the singing. My religion is music and I never lie about that. A singer has no religion, but music. Whoever sings well, I will embrace him. So I don’t get Aslam’s behaviour. But I suspect someone from the channel told him to do it for ratings.”
Asha Bhosle is hopeful that one day people in India will realize what kind of songs they are listening to and singing and things will change.
Aseerzadi, the recently concluded drama is now also officially appreciated by Mayor of City of Paris in the state of Texas, USA. The mayor of City of Paris, A.J. Hashmi, has acknowledged the drama by issuing an official appreciation letter for it. The later also declares the week of 20th January as ‘Aseerzadi Week’ to acknowledge the drama.

This show is getting more interesting by the week. This week’s episode concentrated on the development of Maira and Shahab’s relationship, and the problems both of them faced in their relationship.
The stark reality of the people in the haveli was revealed in front of Maira the very first day. She had every right to be upset and disappointed with the way things had turned out. Her conversation with her mother showed her frustration, and how she feels about the whole situation. Like any parent, her mother was also upset after seeing her daughter so unhappy. If she thought that the situation was going to get better after she speaks to Badi Sarkar, then she was wrong. Amna gave her a reality check and made her realize what she had done to her daughter’s life. She seemed worried and scared for her daughter’s fate after that; but she also knows that it is too late to do anything for her daughter now.
Shahab does not know how to deal with the situation he is in right now. Yasmeen is becoming more and more difficult to handle. He got a very cold response from her when he went to apologize to her for the slap, on the behest of Maira. Technically, he should have gone and apologized to her before Maira told him too. I love the fact that he always discusses all his problems with the Bibis, and give importance to their suggestions. Amna always cracks me up with her extremely weird suggestions.
It was a very sweet gesture from Maira’s side to think about Yasmeen’s feelings. But if she expected Yasmeen’s behavior to improve with her after that, then she was totally wrong. Yasmeen never leaves a chance to taunt her and always remind her that she would also suffer the same fate as her. This show highlights how some people believe in traditions that are pure nonsense. The concept of getting the heir from the third wife beats me! It is hard to believe that some people follow and believe in orthodox traditions which are highly illogical. Hopefully, Maira will break their highly illogical tradition very soon.
I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between Shahab and Maira, and all their conversations were the highlight of the episode. First the cute breakfast scene and then the ‘honey’ and the ‘moon’ scene was a total treat to watch. Maira is slowly realizing now that Shahab is very different from what she had initially thought, and is finally opening towards him. Shahab and Maira’s laughter during the scene where he gives her the present seemed a bit forced to me though. Ainie Jaffri and Noor Hassan have excellent chemistry and I am looking forward to see more interaction between them.
Just when Maira and Shahab were finally adjusting to the new situation; Fatima had to come and create problems for both of them. Her indecent behavior was ridiculous, and Maira’s anger was totally justified. But unfortunately, Shahab got all the blame even though he was innocent. Shahab can barely stand Fatima, but he has no say in who he wants to marry. Fatima is Badi Sarkar’s choice to be Shahab’s third and real wife, and Fatima always uses this to her advantage. She was gloating when Badi Sarkar was insulting Maira, and purposely showed the picture of her and Shahab’s house after marriage to Badi Sarkar in front of her.
Fatima became the reason for Shahab and Maira’s first argument. A little credit also goes to Yasmeen who instigated Maira in the first place. The preview for the next episode seems promising as Shahab will show Fatima her true place, and her reaction will also be worth looking forward too.
Fatima will not spare Maira for insulting her, and she will get back to her through Badi Sarkar. Next week’s episode will definitely be worth watching.

This week’s episode was way better than the previous one. The story has finally progressed and we saw a quick wedding of Maira and Shahab, and the behavior of all the members of the family towards Maira. The two Bibi’s were the only people who gave her a heart-warming welcome. Maira finally saw the trailer of what happens with the people who go against Badi Sarkar’s wishes. What surprised me the most was Yasmeen’s behavior; it is understandable that it must be really hard for her to see Shahab with his second wife, but gifting Maira white clothes and predicting a same fate for her as her own was not right in my opinionShahab is a very calm and patient person and seeing him slapping Yasmeen was a big shock for me. But Yasmeen words were plain cruel and maybe anyone would have reacted in the same way. She pushed Shahab away from herself when Shahab did not want that, and now she cannot bear to see him with anyone else. Shahab tried his best to stand up for his wife but he became helpless in front of Badi Sarkar. He has tried to go against Badi Sarkar many times in the past too for his Bibis but Badi Sarkar listens to nobody, not even her husband.
Peer Jalal keeps away from the matters of the haveli and they are left to Badi Sarkar. Shahab is always left disappointed when he fails to convince Badi Sarkar and complains to his father about the situation, who in turn advices him to compromise instead of trying to reason with Badi Sarkar. In this episode when he complained about Badi Sarkar’s treatment with Maira, Peer Jalal told him not to give the matter so much importance as it is best left to the women of the house. Women are simply a shugal for Peer Jalal and the only advice he ever has for his son is to give absolutely no importance to women. Sometimes I wonder how Shahab can be the son of Badi Sarkar and Peer Jalal; he is the complete opposite of them both. Their way of thinking and mindset has never influenced him and he respects every person in the family.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Maira and Shahab. The scene where he takes her hand and brings her inside the haveli with all the respect she deserves was one of my favorite scenes in the episode. Their sizzling chemistry was evident from the few scenes they had together in this episode. Another scene which I loved was the one in which Shahab rudely tells Fatima to sit at the back and politely asks Maira to come sit in the front with him in the car. He showed Fatima her place by doing this and she was highly offended by his rude behavior. She is surely going to take revenge from Maira for her humiliation in the near future.
Fatima’s head is always on the seventh sky because she is regarded by Badi Sarkar as the asli bahu of the haveli. I was completely shocked by the way she grabbed Shahab’s hand and practically dragged him to the car and that too in front of everyone! In her mind, she is already the real bahu of the haveli which makes her think that she has a right to do anything she likes.
Shahab showed how much he respects the Bibis when he took Maira to their room first instead of Badi Sarkars’. For him, Bibi’s dua’s were more important to him than his own mothers’. He was even upset that they did not come outside to greet Maira. Amna was once again hilarious in her scene where she gives the sukoon ki tablets to Maira as a gift. Her scenes always make me laugh out loud!
Overall the episode was entertaining and now we will get to see how Maira would adjust herself in the haveli. Shahab will always try to support her in all situations, and judging from the preview of the next episode he will also prove to be a caring husband.
Ainie Jafferi and Noor Hassan both were brilliant in this episode. I always found both of them as weak actors, but they have finally showed improvement in this show.

I found the episode a bit slow and dull this week, maybe because I am used to the constant electrifying and extremely engaging scenes in this show. The story is progressing on a steady pace though, and a few developments occurred in the episode this week.
Maira, after being emotionally blackmailed by her parents, agreed to the marriage. She had no intention of marrying Peer Shahab as she was interested in her cousin Bilal, but had to given in when her father pointed fingers at her character. I believe her father crossed his limits by accusing her of a grave deed which he knew in his heart that she would never commit. What was more shocking is that in the end, he just casually laughed it off by stating that he had said it in anger. For a parent, the child’s happiness should be of paramount importance and if Maira was not happy with the marriage, then he had no right to force her. For Maira’s father, Peer Jalal words are the law, and he did want to disappoint him again as he had been given a last chance to rectify his mistake.
Bilal dug a pit for himself by contacting Badi Sarkar in the hope that she would help unite him and Maira. It did not take much time for Badi Sarkar to put false allegations on Bilal, and put him behind the bars. After getting to know that he is the reason why Maira said no for the marriage and insulted her, she would have never spared him as she never forgets an insult. I truly felt bad for the innocent Bilal who became the target of Badi Sarkar’s wrath. He would not be able to get out of the situation easily after the papers he had signed.
Badi Sarkar never loses a challenge, and she took Amna’s words as a challenge when she announced the wedding date in front of her brother. Amna wanted to humiliate her, but she herself got humiliated in the process. Badi Sarkar was determined to get Shahab married on that exact same date and accomplished her goal very easily. The aura and power that she emits is truly awe-inspiring. She seems like a truly indestructible force who can turn the events in her favor by a simple snap of her fingers.
Fatima is the spitting image of Badi Sarkar with her cunning ways, and her habit of getting her way by any means possible. It was made obvious in the first episode that she enjoys humiliating and degrading people and she has mastered the art of manipulating Badi Sarkar. Badi Sarkar may be the most vicious and cunning woman, but even she falls for Fatima’s trap every time. Fatima happens to be the most favored person of Badi Sarkar and the asli bahu of the Haveli. Badi Sarkar wants her to rule the Haveli just like her by marrying her to Shahab for the third time. I am still unable to grasp this concept of the third wife being the real wife and the mother of the heir. It just does not make sense to me. I sincerely hope Maira breaks this tradition!
So far, every actor in this show is performing up to mark. Sania Shamshad is looking quite convincing in her negative character which is a huge contrast from her character in Rehaai. She is a new comer in the industry and is already proving her versatility. I have never really liked Ainnie Jafferi’s acting but I must admit that she has improved a lot now.
The preview of the next episode seems interesting. Maira is surely in for a tough time now. She made the grave mistake of messing with Badi Sarkar, and now she will definitely pay the price. But on the bright side, it seems that Shahab will support her and save her from Badi Sarkar’s wrath.

This show has taken the viewers on a roller coaster ride since its first episode. The best part about this show is that there were rarely any dull moments as the show was pretty fast paced. The last 3 to 4 episodes were a bit slow, but I still enjoyed all the episodes a lot. I must admit, I was not expecting the show to end with such a huge twist.
The last few episodes have been focused on Badi Sarkar’s redemption, and how she is trying her best to make amends. After proving Maira’s innocence, it was now time for her to bring her back to the haveli and Maira came back to the haveli on Badi Sarkar’s request. Badi Sarkar also apologized to Amna in front of everyone and Amna forgave her with all her heart. It was good to see everyone happy and dancing to celebrate Maira’s return and Amna’s unique ‘Naagin’ dance was also an added bonus. Sakina Sammo has done full justice to her character. Then there was the reconciliation between mother and son; their scene was one of the best scenes of the show. We saw the mother and son bonding for the first time; Badi Sarkar acted like a mother who truly cared for her son’s happiness and wellbeing.
I liked the fact that they did not show Maira forgiving Shahab immediately which usually happens in most shows. The accusation he had made on her was not a trivial matter, and it took Maira some time to forgive Shahab. She forgave him completely when Badi Sarkar tried to explain her his position. It was definitely good to see Maira and Shahab back together!
Even Yasmeen’s matter was resolved to satisfaction. Maira was very cooperative in Yasmeen’s case and asked Shahab to make it up to her. She deserved his attention as much as she did, and this is exactly what he did. He finally managed to patch things up with Yasmeen. Even Naseemi was finally able to let go of the past when Amna advised her to. I am glad they paid attention to all these tracks too!
Badi Sarkar might have changed, but Peer Jalal was still adamant on bringing the glory back to his ancestors and he was still thinking of ways to achieve this. He was not ready to admit defeat at any cost. Peer Jalal tried to talk to Shahab but he was not ready to listen and had no interest in bringing fame to his family again by lying. Peer Jalal then resorted to his last option and took help from a person like Sikander.
Sikander had again kept an offer in front of Peer Jalal. This time he did not want power, but wanted his daughter’s happiness. Fatima had become mentally unstable after being rejected and her father was ready to do anything to get back her sanity. He offered to get Maira out of the way in exchange for Fatima and Shahab’s wedding. The plan failed completely when Sikander shot Badi Sarkar instead of Maira. Badi Sarkar’s death came as a complete surprise to me!
What was even more shocking was Peer Jalal committing suicide! He lost one of the most important people in his life because of his selfishness. He could not live with this guilt on his conscience and decided to end his life.
The last few scenes showed that the rest of the people in the haveli managed to live a blissful life after the storm they had been through. The family was finally complete when Maira gave birth to twins.
Noor Hassan has given one of his best performances in this show. I remember when I saw him in his first show; I had thought that he had no potential as an actor, but he has improved drastically overtime.
Ainnie Jafferi was also at her best in this show and so was Saniya Shamshad. Saniya performed brilliantly throughout the show and especially when she went completely crazy in the end. The transition from the proud and dominating Badi Sarkar to a normal woman was portrayed brilliantly by Sania Saeed. Salman Shahid also carried out his grey shaded character to perfection. There were so many layers in his character! The flawless direction also gave life to the scenes and made each one stand out!
So what are your views on the ending of this show?
This show has always been fast paced. but now it is clearly dragging. On one hand, we are getting to see the changes in various people in the haveli and their true faces re being revealed one by one, and on the other hand, the scenes are getting pretty repetitive. It is ironic to see that the two characters I admired in this serial; Peer Jalal and Naseemi have finally shown their true face. I liked Peer Jalal for the aura he emitted even though he was heavily flawed, but I pitied him because of the treatment he got from Badi Sarkar. I liked Naseemi because I thought she was one genuine person in the haveli, but she also turned out to be greedy and selfish. I sympathized with both these characters, but no more!
This show has truly served its purpose; its main theme was to portray how wrong the Peer-Mureedi concept can be if you follow it blindly without questioning anything. Believe it or not but there are still people who follow such customs blindly even in this modern age. I loved the lesson they had shown in the serial.
Finally, Shahab is convinced of Maira’s innocence and has a huge burden on his conscience now. He goes to her only to return disappointed after hearing what she truly wants. He does not have the courage to even convince her anymore because he knows he does not have the right. He did not trust her, and now she has every right to be angry at him. He was even ready to give her what she wanted till Amna Bibi came and made him come back to his senses.
His decision to give divorce to Maira might be sad news for a few, but it is also good news for some other people in the haveli. Yasmeen was happy to hear that Shahab was leaving Maira, and started playing her own games. Naseemi is the one brainwashing her and putting new plans in her mind. Yasmeen was trying to get Shahab back but then she realized that it was of no use since Shahab will eventually marry Fatima even if he divorces Maira. For the first time, Shahab showed Fatima her real place and stood up for Yasmeen. It was a brilliant scene, and the look on both Yasmeen and Fatima’s faces was worth watching!
Badi Sarkar truly regrets all her deeds and surprisingly, the one person who forgave her with all her heart for her misdeeds is Amna Bibi. Amna showed by her behavior that she has accepted her unspoken apology and had seen the guilt in her eyes. Shahab; however, has still not been able to forgive Badi Sarkar completely. He will eventually when he will notice the drastic change in her. She has finally started to act like a mother who truly cares for her son. She even went to Maira to convince her to come home with her, she wants her to come back not only for Shahab, but also to prove that all the Karamats were just plain lies.
One of the best scenes of the episode was when Badi Sarkar finally showed Fatima her true place! Fatima and Sikander both are under the misconception that now when Maira is out of the way; Fatima once again has the chance to become the Badi Sarkar. But now Badi Sarkar knows that she had trusted the wrong people and all the family members of her brother are corrupted just like him. She had heard all the tapes that Fatima had recorded and now she does not even want Fatima to even be around Shahab or the haveli, and she simply showed Fatima the door.
It is clear that Maira still loves Shahab, and now it is just her anger and ego speaking. When she heard that Shahab came to her house, she could not help but run after him. Her mother knows what is in her heart and pointed out that it was obvious that she still care about him otherwise she would have not run after him like that.
Will Maira go back to the haveli now that Badi Sarkar has come to take her back? Will she keep her anger aside and forgive Shahab will all her heart?
From the past three episodes, the story is revolving around Shahab’s dilemma about what to believe about Maira. He has the highest regard for his father and he believes every single word that comes out of his mouth, and he did the same this time. Shahab did have some doubts in his mind about the accusations put on Maira, but he was completely convinced when he saw Maira and Bilal together.
Maira was unaware of the accusations made on her, and she got the biggest shock of her life when she returned to the haveli and heard this news about herself. It took no time for her to go and question Shahab, but she was thoroughly disappointed by his distrust in her. He was completely convinced that she was guilty and Maira wanted to prove him wrong at all cost, not because she wanted to go back to him, but to make him eat his words.
The irony of the situation is that she thought that this was Badi Sarkar’s plan when in real, Peer Jalal was behind this master plan. She accused Badi Sarkar of spreading false information about her and even misbehaved with her. She was expecting Peer Jalal to save her this time too, but she was in for a bigger shock when she got to know that Peer Jalal was the one who had put the accusations on her. She was hoping for his support in this situation, but she was again disappointed.
What surprised me, or to be more precise shocked me the most was Maira’s father’s conviction in her innocence. When Peer Jalal accused Maira, he did not bow down to Peer Jalal and blamed Maira like he usually does. He stood tall, looked him in the eye, and told him that he was lying and Maira can never do such a thing. I seriously felt like clapping in this scene! Brilliant performance by both the actors!
Badi Sarkar has changed and the change is so drastic that it just gets a bit unbelievable at times. Her ego has been shattered completely, and now she realizes how cruel she has been to every single person in the haveli. She even wants to give Amna her true place as the real Badi Sarkar in the haveli. This was quite a shock for me!
She was a wrong judge of peopl and seeing the real face of her brother and his family made her realize this. The scene where she shows Sikander his place was a superb scene! Her guilty conscience wants to correct her wrong doings and this time she is not against, but with Maira.
She tried her best to convince Shahab of Maira’s innocence. She did not reveal about Amna being the real Badi Sarkar maybe because she did not want Shahab to know what his father had done to her, but she did admit that she had put false accusations on Maira about Bilal. Even then Shahab was not completely convinced about Maira’s innocence. She even tried her best to convince Peer Jalal to tell the truth to Shahab and let go off the family’s fake karamat, but to no avail. She then decided to take things into her own hands.
Badi Sarkar resorted to her last option, she knew that no DNA reports would convince Shahab of Maira’s innocence and the only way to defeat Peer Jalal would be to make Maira swear in the mazaar which is considered a holy place by both Shahab and Peer Jalal. Her plan worked and Shahab finally believed in Maira’s innocence and Peer Jalal was left defeated.
Shahab might be convinced now, but Maira simply does not want to keep any relation with him after the accusations that he had put on her. Maira is completely right in her place; she has every right to be furious with Shahab for not believing her.
Noor Hassan and Ainnie Jafferi were simply superb in all their scenes. Noor Hassan has really grown as an actor, his expressions and dialogue delivery both are spot on. Ainnie Jafferi is a very talented actress and now she is showing her true potential! I simply loved her performance in this show. Do I even need to say what a brilliant actress Sania Saeed is? Her name is enough. Period.
The show has two more episodes left as far as I know! Technically, the next episode should have been the last one, but I wonder why they are dragging the serial now that the truth has been revealed?

One thing that I have always loved about this show is its pace. I look forward to this show week after week as it is always full of surprises. One can never really expect what will happen next in this show.
The transition that Badi Sarkar went through was nicely shown, and Sania Saeed was superb in every scene. It had shattered her to know that she was never the true Badi Sarkar of the haveli and the Karamats were just a façade to hide the reality from the world and maintain the prestige of the family. What had shocked her even more was to realize the true faces of people she had trusted the most. Her brother, whom she had trusted blindly, was just using her to get the seat in the National Assembly from her husband. Her sister-in-law also pointed fingers at her current status in the haveli, and last but not the least, she also got to know that Fatima whom she had always treated like her daughter, was a devil in disguise. Badi Sarkar had finally gotten to know that lying was her natural talent, and she had fooled her not once but many times in the past too. The scene where she looks herself in the mirror and sees herself as a normal woman for the first time, and not the haughty and egoistic Badi Sarkar was beautifully directed and enacted. Even the background music’s lyrics depicted Badi Sarkar’s feelings at that moment.
Salman Shahid has played Peer Jalal’s role to perfection. One could really feel how helpless Peer Jalal felt about the whole situation which had gotten out of his hands now. People like Sikander who cowered before him had now gained courage to blackmail him, and his whole family’s prestige was at stake if the news of Maira’s pregnancy got out. I had not expected Peer Jalal to come up with such disgusting sort of solution. If Badi Sarkar had accused Maira of something like this then it would have been understandable, but I had never thought that Peer Jalal would put such blame on her. He was the one who gave the guarantee of Maira’s character to Shahab, and now he used his words against her.
Shahab had always trusted his father blindly. When he told him that Maira was innocent, he believed him and now when he put this accusation on her, he again believed him without a second thought. Shahab really needs to start relying on his own gut feeling instead of believing everything that others say. One flaw in his character is that he easily gets manipulated by everyone. He even believed Fatima when she told him that Badi Sarkar had left the house because Maira insulted her. Doesn’t he know his own mother? She would never leave haveli for such a petty issue!
Finally, we saw Shahab giving some time to Yasmeen too and of course, Maira did not like this. They both were upset with each other; Shahab was upset because he thought Maira was the reason Badi Sarkar left and Maira was angry because she did not want Yasmeen to come between them. Maira decided to take the initiative, and end the quarrel between them when she saw that Yasmeen might take advantage of this situation. Shahab was really happy when Maira told him that she was ready to apologize to Badi Sarkar. However, his happiness was short-lived because Peer Jalal put the blame on Maira shortly after that.
Badi Sarkar returned to the haveli not because she wanted to, but to prove her brother and sister-in-law that she still had the same status in the haveli. She was not too happy to come back though. She is now even more upset with Peer Jalal because of the accusation he had put on Maira to ‘deal’ with the situation. It is really hard to believe but Badi Sarkar truly has changed!
Another person who shocked me in these episodes was Naseemi. I have always loved her character since the beginning, and I did not know that her character would turn out be grey-shaded. The lust for power has turned her completely into a different person and she has already started to dream of taking Badi Sarkar’s place. Something is brewing up in her mind and she is brainwashing Yasmeen’s mind too. Amna seems more sensible to me than Naseemi now.
Shahab has now left Maira at her house without giving her any explanation. She is confused and upset and has no clue about the accusations that have been put on her. I am really looking forward to see who will help Maira this time. I have a strong feeling that Badi Sarkar might help her this time. *fingers crossed*
