5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

For the past many years, we have been waiting to watch Pakistani dramas that diverged from the conventional family politics narrative. The year 2023 proved to be the year when the producers and writers finally introduced new themes in Pakistani dramas. This pivotal year became synonymous with innovation as the industry ventured beyond the familiar, giving viewers who want to watch such dramas enough options to choose from.

All of these attempts were not successful but they can definitely be regarded as a much-needed step in the right direction. These dramas broadened the scope of Pakistani dramas and few of them were exceptionally well-executed as well.

Empowered and Nuanced Female Characters

The bechari aurat has been sold to viewers for many years now. This trend became a norm and even the producers defended it multiple times. The writers were also convinced that the viewers wanted to see women suffering in dramas. We only got to watch strong female characters every now and then. This year, the most refreshing change had to be many empowered female characters in dramas in leading and supporting roles. These characters were layered, well-written and quite a few of them were inspirational as well.

5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

The viewers watched these empowered female characters taking charge of their destinies, breaking barriers, and challenging societal expectations. Their journeys were realistic and each one of them redefined the term empowerment in their own way. This refreshing development is an important step towards a more inclusive and representative era in storytelling, where the richness of women’s experiences is celebrated and acknowledged with the prominence it deserves.

Razia from the mini-series Razia, Zimal from Neem, Shamim and Ayesha from Kabli Pulao, Sofia and Alia from Kuch Ankahi and so many more represented empowered women from different walks of life.

Complex and Unorthodox Male Characters

This year there has been a notable and commendable shift in the portrayal of male characters as well, redefining the very essence of what constitutes a ‘hero.’ While there were still many dramas that banked on the rich and spoiled brats as heroes, there were many others with atypical heroes who possessed distinctive qualities that set them apart. These heroes presented a more diverse and layered representation of masculinity.

5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

Haji Mushtaq from Kabli Pulao definitely takes the lead in this regard since as an unconventional hero he received more love and appreciation than any other. There were many other such characters shown in supporting roles as well. Mannu from Razia, Jeevan Nagar’s Babbar Shah, and a majority of the male characters in Meher Mah fall in the same category as well. Gulzar is another such male lead from Idiot.

Unusual and Meaningful Love Stories

Every story and plot in Pakistani dramas has always had a love story or stories of some kind. However, we rarely get to watch love stories that deviate from the norm. This year, for a change, there were multiple such tracks in dramas. These stories were unlike any other we have seen on our screens before.

The story of young love took center stage in Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri, Haji Mushtaq, Barbeena and Shamim’s love triangle From Kabli Pulao, Shazil, Zimal, and Ashhad’s track was another one which deserves a mention here and then there is Tumharey Husn Ke Naam which has presented an old school love story. Qadar and Hammad’s track from Tinkay Ka Sahara is another example of how love stories were redefined in dramas this year.

I must say that this trend started gradually but it definitely reached its pinnacle this year.

5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

Redefining the Role of Police Officers

This year, we got to see a more diverse, nuanced, and positive representation of police officers in Pakistani dramas. For the longest time, police officers have been stereotyped in our dramas but this year we got to witness multiple such characters which were either a nuanced or a positive representation.

Interestingly enough, there were also multiple dramas in which these officers either played one of the leading roles or were important supporting characters that stood out for all the right reasons. Jhok Sarkar, Pinjra, Tinkay Ka Sahara, Gunah, and many other dramas showed a different side of police officers.

5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

Stories Revolving around Children

In Pakistani dramas, mental health, both in a general context and specifically concerning children, has been a subject that received minimal attention over the years. Despite the fact that some of this year’s dramas that centered around this crucial subject did not fully meet expectations, they undeniably served as platforms to initiate important discussions.

Pinjra definitely tops the list because it attempted to highlight  different aspects of mental health and highlighted many parental pitfalls. Idiot addresses more or less the same issue among many others. Daur and Apney Hee Tou Hein were two other dramas this year that had important tracks revolving around children. Mayi Ri would fall into the same category as well even though it failed to do justice to the theme.

5 Refreshing Trends in 2023 Pakistani Dramas

Final Remarks

This shift in themes and trends suggests a growing awareness among the producers and storytellers. They understand the need to explore a broader range of subjects that resonate with a more diverse audience. Green TV Entertainment definitely played the leading role in breaking these barriers. However, we still have a long way to go since many of these dramas lacked entertainment and engagement value and some of them even lost the plot in the middle.

Which themes and trends in 2023 Pakistani dramas did you find most refreshing? Share your thoughts.

5 Reasons Why We Need More Dramas Like Parizaad

Pakistani dramas have evolved over the years in more ways than one. There are certain elements of present-day dramas that irk the viewers for all the right reasons. The focus on getting higher ratings and cashing in on the popularity of these dramas has affected the quality of Pakistani dramas in general. However, every year we still get to watch dramas that do not only provide quality entertainment but can easily be termed as classics. These dramas are at par with the evergreen drama serials of the time that was considered the golden era of Pakistani dramas.

This season, Parizaad is one such drama that has captivated the viewers who long to watch something unique. There are so many aspects of this drama that set it apart from the crowd. It has attracted even those viewers who had given up on Pakistani dramas altogether. Parizaad is also a drama unlike any other. It has so much going for it that it is the center of attention and discussion on every forum. The best part is that the channel or the producers did not even have to go out of their way to ‘market’ the drama. Parizaad’s script has been penned down by Hashim Nadeem, it is based on his novel with the same title. It has been directed by Shehzad Kashmiri and produced by Momina Duraid.

5 Reasons Why We Need More Dramas Like Parizaad

Here are 5 reasons why our drama makers should produce more dramas such as Parizaad:

Unique Script

Most Pakistani dramas nowadays revolve around love stories – most often love triangles. Others focus on family issues, mainly saas bahu stories or the problems related to marital life. There are also those that bank heavily on negative or black and white characters. And then there is the bechari aurat who is shown getting humiliated constantly in these dramas. Parizaad has none of that! The writer Hashim Nadeem has penned down a script that is unique in so many ways. Although this is a serial but the way the characters come and go gives it the engaging factors which the series have.

The writer has definitely laid down the foundations for a brand new genre by doing so. Most often, certain characters that are part of the story are part of it right till the end. In Parizaad however, some of the characters are constant, others come, do what needs to be done and then they leave. This makes the storyline unique and even more appealing. Apart from this, the writer has not used any of the done-to-death scenarios to entice the viewers. Parizaad’s story at some level represents the story of every individual out there who has ever dared to dream.

An Unusual Protagonist

In an era when young and good-looking heroes and heroines are considered as the basic requirement of any drama serial at all, Parizaad has broken all stereotypes by introducing a male protagonist who is unlike any other. Also, most of the drama serials revolve around women because the producers insist that is the only way to entice their female audience and that is where they get their ratings from. Parizaad’s male lead’s success and the fact that people are absolutely in love with this character has definitely redefined the general concept of the main protagonist in Pakistani dramas. It goes to show that the viewers want to watch real people’s stories on screen. A protagonist does not have to be eye candy or a toxic man, which is most often the case. More dramas should have protagonists such as Parizaad who does not only break stereotypes but also sets the bar high.

5 Reasons Why We Need More Dramas Like Parizaad

Real people have struggles and their journeys are unpredictable as is the case with Parizaad. Parizaad’s strong characterizations should serve as an inspiration for all those writers who are busy writing black and white characters. Mostly, the portrayal of men in our dramas is restricted to reinforcing clichés or they are used as a caricature. It is such a pleasant change to have a male protagonist who has a story to tell, is intelligent, and is not run-of-the-mill.

Star Power Utilized Effectively

We have watched so many star-studded disasters in recent times. Even the most talented stars have been exploited to get ratings. When the production houses often invest in star power, they fail to focus equally on the script and the content. Parizaad however has proved that star power and quality content is a winning combination. All the big and rising stars have been assigned such roles in the drama that they have left a lasting impression.

Most importantly, it has actually added to the star power of the leading man Ahmed Ali Akbar. This should serve as an example and inspiration for all those actors who are constantly choosing similar projects because they are too afraid of stepping out of their comfort zones. It also goes to show that the right casting can make a world of difference. Ahmed Ali Akbar has risen as a bigger star than ever not by playing a typical role but by opting for a role that was a huge challenge. He has proved that he was up to the challenge and the credit for that also goes to those individuals who saw this talent in him and offered him the role. There is rarely a drama with so many big names attached to it that managed to do justice to all these stars, Parizaad has done just that therefore others should follow.

Meaningful Entertainment

With this script, the writer Hashim Nadeem has proved that multiple social issues can be highlighted in a drama without making it look like a social commentary. The fun fact is that Parizaad was never promoted as an issue-based drama yet right from the beginning it has focused on so many basic issues in the most meaningful manner. The basic theme of the drama itself is that we should not judge a book by its cover and that is being re-emphasized through different characters. That is something most viewers can relate to since so many people bank on first impressions to make final judgments about people. Apart from that, the effect of constant rejection, the double standards that exist in the society, extreme materialism, a husband’s failure to balance between his wife and parents – are just a few of the important issues that have been touched upon in the most effective manner.

5 Reasons Why We Need More Dramas Like Parizaad

What makes Parizaad different is the fact that the writer has relied on showing and not telling. Parizaad’s journey itself has so many messages in it. We definitely need more such dramas which provide meaningful entertainment in the true sense of the word.

Public Appreciation

The production houses and writers who are constantly complaining that they stick to done-to-death stories because that is what the public wants have certainly been proven wrong! By giving Parizaad the kind of love and attention it deserves, the public has shown that they will watch something out of the box if it is penned down and executed intelligently. Parizaad has proved that content is the king! Sure, it has great production values and superb performers to make it a one-of-a-kind drama but what stands out more than anything else is its main content and premise. The public is showing more love to this drama at the moment than any other, that says a great deal about what the public wants to see on television.

Are you watching Parizaad? Do you agree that we need more drama like this one? Share your views.

5 Reasons Why TikTok Banned in Pakistan

6

‘In  view of number of complaints from different segments of the society against immoral/indecent content on the video sharing application TikTok (has been banned)’ — read the tweet by PTA late evening and certainly all Pakistani TikTokers aren’t happy with it.

5 Reasons Why TikTok Banned in Pakistan

Emerging as the widely downloaded application within just a few years, TikTok has now been taken down by PTA due to a number of reasons:

  • Unfiltered Content

Not everything on TikTok is favorable for young minds. TikTok doesn’t filter out 18+ content making it easily accessible to everyone. PTA came into action after ‘complaints’ lodged against the application by a number of people due to  immoral videos openly available on the free app.

  • Failure to Comply with Instructions

After receiving the initial reports, PTA gave a considerable time to the application developers to censor out unlawful content in Pakistan. Upon failing to do so, PTA had no option left.

5 Reasons Why TikTok Banned in Pakistan

  • Highly Addictive:

Besides the immoral content, the application itself is highly addictive that makes its users to spend hours recording videos without realization. Thus, the app kills time without resulting in anything positive.

5 Reasons Why TikTok Banned in Pakistan

  • Death Cases

Last year, the netizens were saddened because of the sudden demise of famous young TikToker, Daniyal Khan who was reported recording TikTok video before his vehicle met an accident. Around the globe, more than 37 young deaths have been reportedly linked with filming TikTok.

  • Mental Health and Social Issues

Several psychologists also believe that the triggering content of TikTok might lead to mental illnesses like eating disorders and self harm. Videos on applications like TikTok can be linked to social issues like comparison and bullying which may lead to unsafe consequences.

Despite all these reasons, TikTok is still a sole source of income for many content creators especially coming from underdeveloped areas.

No digital application is good or bad in itself. It is us, the humans who make something harmful or fruitful.

Furthermore, the algorithm of all social applications, including TikTok work according to user preferences. The app will never show you any content that is related to something you haven’t watched or you’ve spent time interacting.

As suggested by PTA, it will review the ban incase the Application takes steps to filter out the indecent content according to the telecommunication regulatory authority.

5 Reasons Why PTV’s Kis Se Kahoon is a Youth-based Drama That Hits the Mark!

PTV just launched its new season and in one of their new shows is Kis Se Kahoon. I must say, with dramas like this, PTV could easily climb the staircase to the top once again. Here are 4 reasons why:

1. The Story and its unpredictability _ Not your regular shadi-based drama:

Mr and Mrs Qureshi (Mohsin Gillani and Seemi Raheel) have a daughter Hadiqa (Sajal Ali). Mr.Qureshi has a job in Saudi Arab because of which he and his wife reside there, but his mother (Samina Ijaz) asks him to let her keep Hadiqa. He agrees, thus Hadiqa grows up in a village in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, among snow, trees, her grandmother and the village folk, learning all kinds of sports. Hadiqa is a bubbly, confident girl who has everything a person could dream of, but she has never considered the poor villagers inferior to her in anyway. She enjoys her grandmother’s company a lot.

She gives her O-Level examinations privately, after which her parents shift to a city in Pakistan and decide to enroll her in a good institution for A-Levels. Hadiqa finally says goodbye to the village and her grandmother and shifts to the city where she meets Salma (Yumna Zaidi).

Salma’s mother is a maid in the Qureshi household, and Salma sometimes accompanies her. She admires Hadiqa’s perfect life. Salma’s father is a careless and man who has no love or sense of responsibility for his family, i.e, his wife and four daughters, one of whom is paralyzed.

Fullscreen capture 132015 122047 AM

The comparison between Salma and Hadiqa’s academic life is spot on. While Hadiqa goes to the best high-school in the city, Salma goes to a low-funded school where hitting students and scolding them for no reason is no big deal. Salma’s class has low tables with no chairs, and empty walls with one or two paintings on them, while Hadiqa has a well-furnished class with well maintained soft boards.

But among all the lavishness, there are three bullies who try to mess up Hadiqa’s first day. Hadiqa impresses them with her confidence and within no time, they are best friends. This does not go unnoticed by the jock of the school and senior of Hadiqa, Fahad Iqbal (Agha Ali). He is a wealthy guy who has absolutely no respect for girls and he brings down any person who is better than him. He challenges Hadiqa to a basketball match, and she defeats him. This infuriates Fahad, and he puts down a shart in front of his friends, that he will do anything to demean her.

Fullscreen capture 142015 55920 PM

Hadiqa and Salma become best friends and one day when Salma’s mother Razia shows up at the Qureshis’ doorstep, and tells them that her husband has thrown her and her daughters out of their own home, Hadiqa immediately lets them stay at her house. The materialistic nature of Hadiqa’s parents is highlighted when they refuse to let the poor family stay for more than one night. We are yet to see how Hadiqa will convince her parents and how she will deal with Fahad.

2. The Pace

The story which I have written above, took place in only 4 episodes. Hard to believe right? A good story along with good pace is a dream, in this world of dragged, pointless dramas. My watch list is filled with dramas that have been stretched like chewing gum, and KSK is definitely a gem in front of them.

3. The Execution:

From the direction, to the production, the camera work and the editing, everything has been done with finesse. There are no loopholes in any of them. The miseries of Salma’s life were not stretched beyond my depression point. The school scenes were absolutely top-notch, and the basketball scene was shot with brilliance. The director Kashif Nisar, did his homework well. He made sure of what the viewers wanted and gave his full attention to it. The writer Shahid Nadeem has nailed it. He has dealt with the issues of beating students, bullying and the jock culture professionally. While watching this drama, you realize that the characters have been written with expertise, they are well etched out and that’s why I had no issue in relating to them. The episodes are fast paced, which is a bonus. The DOP Hassan Mairaj has done a great job as well. From the mountains covered with snow to Salma’s shack and Hadiqa’s mansion to their respective schools, the scenes are nicely shot.

The first scene of any drama speaks volumes about the expertise of the team. If they manage to make it full of suspense, it proves that they can make the rest of the drama interesting too. Often drama makers ignore the importance of the first scene and focus on showing us huge mansions. Team KSK knew the importance of that scene and they shot it with brilliance. Check it out here:

4. The Cast:

Sajal Ali is a gifted actress and Yumna Zaidi is impressive too. Both of them were the perfect choice for these roles, especially Sajal. Agha Ali has totally nailed it. I can’t think of anyone else who could have portrayed Fahad in a better way. Essa Chauhdry will be making his debut opposite Yumna Zaidi soon.

The couples are great. Agha Ali and Sajal look great together, while Essa Chauhdry and Yumna Zaidi will light up our screens soon.

5. The Wardrobe by ARFA’s :

From chic tops, trousers and the printed skirts to the jackets and those colourful scarves,  Sajal’s dressing is top-notch.

Screen Captures1

Agha Ali’s wardrobe is trend setting as well. Those jackets and shirts are perfect for someone of Fahad’s age.Screen Captures3 The best part is that the wardrobe keeps changing and this really tells about how much attention the director has given. People don’t roam around in the same clothes for two episodes!

Kis Se Kahoon airs on Sundays at 8:10 pm. It is an example of how the whole the whole team has worked hard to create a drama that actually entertains the audience, and is not another shadi issues ki bharmaar!

5 Reasons Why Pakistani Dramas Are Not Family Entertainment

0

There was a time few decades ago when at 8pm all the members of the family used to sit in front of the television screens to watch drama on a Pakistani channel. PTV was the main source of entertainment in majority of the houses and the people who were at the helm of affairs in PTV understood that. They did their job and provided people with dramas which were entertaining and were family oriented. The script and direction was such that there was never any room for controversy. This was the time when the story of the saas-bahu and women being raped were not the norm. Neither did these drama focus only on marital problems or extra marital affairs. Tanhaiyan, Dhoop Kinare, Ankahi, Dhuwan, Alpha Bravo Charlie and many more had strong scripts which did not have anything controversial about them but they are still considered classics because they did not need controversies to get attention from the viewers. PTV, at that time concentrated on quality entertainment even though they did not have any other channels to compete with.

20

When private channels started and they begin to make their own drama things drastically changed because there was a dearth of writers and good directors. That is when for a few years sadly Pakistani dramas started copying the dramas from across the border and they started concentrating on make-up and sets more than the script. With some new production houses and new actors things changed for a few years and people started liking and watching Pakistani dramas again but for two years now it looks like our channels are trying very hard to get attention of the viewers but not by coming up with new quality scripts but by showing controversial topics.

22

Topics Of The Dramas

Most of our dramas nowadays revolve around illicit relationships. Every second girl in our dramas is throwing herself on rich boys and even much older men because they want their money. Extra marital affairs are shown in the dramas all the time. Along with that, rape has been the most favorite topic of our drama writers. All of these topics are bold, people cannot watch these dramas with their families because of these topics. Our dramas show marriages and divorces like they are nothing serious.

3

Showing Drinking Like It Is Common Practice

Alcohol abuse is shown in many of our dramas like it is something normal. People do consume alcohol in Pakistan but it is a practice that is looked down upon. Showing people getting drunk in dramas is like giving approval for this practice.

Vulgar Dressing

Some Pakistani actresses wear clothes that make it impossible for people to tune into these dramas while family is around. Recently, the male actors also show their bodies more than necessary.

37

Bold Dialogues

The topics of our dramas are already bold but what makes them even more indecent are the bold dialogues. Everything does not always need to be said, some things can just be conveyed in a restrained way but that is not happening in our dramas nowadays.

27

Showing Women Being Abused And Vulgar scenes

We see women being verbally and physically abused in our dramas like there is nothing wrong with it. Men treat their women in the worst manner and women put up with it. There is physical abuse which makes people very uncomfortable. Similarly while showing romantic relationships the couples unnecessarily get too close to one another, which is not needed. There was a time when rainy scenes were added to Pakistani films to show women wearing wet clothes that would cling to their body but now it happens in Pakistani dramas all the time too.

Do you think that our writers and directors should think about turning these dramas into family entertainment once again? Why do you feel that you cannot watch these dramas with your family?

5 Reasons Why Nadia Khan Show Is Better Than Other Morning Shows

0

We see viewers complaining all the time that Morning Shows have turned into a circus because of all the trends which Morning Shows are following. The fake weddings and the fascination with fair skin and slim figures is the focus of all these Morning Shows. Nadia Khan made her comeback on television with her own Morning Show few weeks back and since then every episode of her show has given viewers something interesting to watch. Nadia Khan does not do anything exceptional but she also does not do those things which make other Morning Shows irritating. Everyone works on the sets and the looks but what counts the most is the personality and aura the host brings with him or her on the show.

Here are 5 reasons why everyone should switch to Nadia Khan’s Morning Show instead of any other.

n1

Spontaneous And Meaningful Conversations

Like every other Morning Show host Nadia Khan too of course follows a script but there are many times when we see her taking the conversations with her guests to different directions depending on what the guest brings to the table. Unlike other Morning Show hosts Nadia Khan has a presence of mind because of which she says the right things at the right time and very often her guests end up telling things which they wouldn’t otherwise because of the way she maneuver the discussions.

n2

Relevant Questions

There are so many Morning Show hosts who will invite someone you want to know so much about but the kind of questions that the Morning Show hosts ask do no add to your knowledge about the guests at all. The guest come to a show for hours but they leave without sharing anything of importance about their career or family life mainly because the hosts keep on beating around the bush while asking questions. Sometimes the guests are kept busy playing silly games so there isn’t enough time for talk.

n3

Nadia Khan always asks relevant questions about the family life and most importantly about the ups and downs in the career of the celebrities she invites. The questions are also not the usual questions which are asked in every other interview but the questions show that Nadia Khan knows her guests very well (probably because of research) so she asks questions that certainly make the viewer know more about the celebrity.

Interesting Guests

Nadia Khan has always invited guests who are interesting people. They are also those celebrities who are at the turning point of their career. What makes them even more interesting is that they are very casual, candid and uninhibited when they are in this show. Ayesha Khan, Imran Abbas, Noor, Sohai Ali and many others are usually very to-the-point in their other interviews but in Nadia Khan Show they showed a different side of theirs which was very interesting to watch.

n5

No Fake Weddings

Yes!!!! This show does not have fake weddings! Neither does the format of the show revolve around wedding day and how to get fair and slim before your wedding. In fact Nadia Khan is very often seen making fun of those Morning Shows which have fake weddings. She even criticized Noor on her face for holding Laila’s fake wedding.

n6

Chemistry And Friendship With Guests

The one thing that pretty much sums up why Nadia Khan’s Show is different from other shows is the unique chemistry and perhaps friendship Nadia Khan has with her guests. Although the show is scripted but the whole show looks like a fun conversation between friends because of this chemistry. Because of this friendship Nadia Khan is seen asking questions from celebrities which other hosts can’t even think of asking.

Have you watched Nadia Khan’s Show after her comeback? Do you agree with these points?

5 Reasons Why Mann Mayal Is A Huge Disappointment

Mann Mayal is considered one of the most watched dramas of the current season yet there are so many glaring flaws in this drama which also make it the biggest disappointment of this season. Here are the top 5 reasons why Mann Mayal is an epic fail!

Best love story of the season or the worst sob story of the year?

This drama was promoted as not only the best love story of this season but the kind of love story which will make people forget all others. The love story ended in less than 6 weeks and after that viewers had to sit through one episode after another of watching the heroine sob and suffer. The hero also struggled until he got rich and then he sobbed and suffered for different reasons! Everyone in this drama is sad whether it is Mikael, Mannu or Salahuddin which is why it is the worst sob story of the season!

mm9

The promos which were shown to promote Mann Mayal showed a very happy bubbly side of Mannu maybe because the producers knew that this side would attract the viewers more than the struggling times which Mannu faced after she got married but most of the drama revolves around Mannu’s marital problems.

5 Reasons Why Jo Bichar Gaye Is a Masterpiece

Pakistani drama industry has two basic sides to it, on the one side there are those dramas that are meant for commercial purposes and on the other side, there are those dramas that offer meaningful entertainment. Most of the people who are active on social media and are vocal about their opinions regarding Pakistani dramas appreciate dramas that offer meaningful entertainment. Pakistani producers and writers have experimented a lot in the past few years. Since 2021 in particular, our writers and producers have not been afraid of experimenting with different genres. However, if we take a look at all the dramas that have aired in the past few years, there isn’t a single historic drama that held the viewers’ interest. Hum TV’s Aangan was promoted as a period drama but it turned out to be a major disappointment. In fact, it made all the intelligent viewers question whether Pakistani writers should actually take up such topics or not.

This year, Jo Bichar Gaye took the viewers completely by surprise not only because of its content but also because of its powerful execution. This drama dares to show in detail the incidents that led to the East Pakistan tragedy. This drama has so much going for it yet it has somehow not been promoted as aggressively as some of the other commercial projects that air on Geo. The drama is based on a book written by Col. Z. I. Farrukh who also happens to be one of the main protagonists in the story. He was one of the army men taken in as prisoners of war when Dhaka fell. Haissam Hussain and Mehreen Alam are in charge of the screenplay and the script has been written by Ali Moeen. This drama also marks the comeback of the iconic director Haissam Hussain’s to television and Nadia Jamil also made her acting comeback with Jo Bichar Gaye. The production house H2 Films definitely deserves credit for taking this initiative and putting together this masterpiece.

5 Reasons Why Jo Bichar Gaye Is a Masterpiece

Here are 5 reasons why Jo Bichar Gaye is a masterpiece that is a must-watch:

Unique and Well-Written Script

We sincerely believe that content is the king especially when a writer takes up the task of writing on a topic that is novel, sensitive, and also controversial. Jo Bichar Gaye’s writer has intelligently and neutrally managed to shed light on all those factors which led to the fall of Dhaka. The fact that the novel this drama is based on has been written by someone with vast military experience who was stationed in Dhaka and was in the middle of the conflict reflects in the details which have been the focus of attention right from the beginning. Fall of Dhaka is one of those tragedies which aren’t talked about often in media, especially those aspects where the establishment disappointed its own people. The shortcomings of the politicians and the failure of the establishment to take concrete steps on time are some of the aspects of this era that are not discussed openly. The script of the drama with the utmost clarity shows all the different dimensions of the issue in the fairest manner. It focuses on the lack of foresight, conspiracies, and also the way young people such as Rumi were misled and used for ulterior motives.

The “Human” Element

Even though Jo Bichar Gaye stands out from other such dramas because of the way it presents facts and figures, it does not compromise on the human element which is the essence of any on-screen presentation, at all! In fact, it is impressive how the writer has managed to give easy access to the viewers to the psychological depths of the characters. Most of the time when novels are adapted on television, this depth is lost but Jo Bichar Gaye has highlighted the personal struggles of these characters and their relationship with their ‘cause’ with the utmost precision. This automatically leads to the viewers’ feelings everything the characters are going through and connecting to them makes the experience wholesome. The writers and the director have done exceptionally well while striking a balance between what is going on on the political and military front and everything happening in the personal lives of these characters. You find yourself just as invested in their personal relationships as you are in the events on the political front.

5 Reasons Why Jo Bichar Gaye Is a Masterpiece

Light-Hearted Moments

Who could have thought that these talented writers would be able to fit in the most poignant light-hearted moments in an otherwise bleak story? Well, the makers of Jo Bichar Gaye managed to do just that in the most brilliant way possible. While on the one hand you are completely shaken by the conspiracies, on the other hand, Sonia and Captain Farrukh’s track provides much-needed comic relief. Sonia’s mother definitely takes the lead there with her desperate attempts to find the right suitor for her daughter and her disappointment with finding out that her daughter chose someone like Captain Farrukh. Her character is a breath of fresh air and adds the kind of human element which is usually not a part of such stories. This entire track has a very classy yet comic feel to it.

Perfect and Refreshing Casting

Anyone who has watched Haissam Hussain’s projects will agree that no one can beat him when it comes to choosing the right actors for the roles. He is also one of those few Pakistani directors who have introduced many new faces to the industry. He is also one of those talented individuals in the industry who think outside the box and cast certain seasoned actors in roles they have never been seen in before. Starting from the leading cast such as Wahaj Ali as Rumi, Maya Ali as Sonia, or Taha Chahour as Captain Farrukh to the supporting actors such Nadia Jamil in a candid and interesting role and all those new faces in the most powerful roles, everyone literally manages to transport you to another world. You forget that you had recently seen Wahaj in an entirely different role in Dil Na Umeed Tu Nahin and Maya Ali has recently tested our patience as Rakhshi!

All these actors have not just nailed their roles but they have proved that they were meant to perform such roles. The credit for that goes to the director as well because some of these actors are either new to television or have given average performances in the recent past. It basically goes to show that when actors are chosen to play meaningful characters, they showcase their best abilities. Each actor manages to leave a lasting impression with the leading cast taking the lead, in the true sense of the word!

5 Reasons Why Jo Bichar Gaye Is a Masterpiece

Locations and Cinematography

While shooting any drama locations play a pivotal role. These locations are of even more significance when a period drama is being shot. The directors and the producers chose locations that breathe life into that era and make you forget that you are watching a drama that was recorded in the present era. Much of the drama has been shot in GC University, Lahore, which is visually stunning and its architecture is nothing short of a masterpiece. The other locations from Lahore which have been used as the army headquarters are just as well-suited for the era that is being shown. The camerawork and the cinematography add to the visual appeal even when the message being conveyed through these visuals isn’t always pleasant. The kind of hard work which the team put into making the visuals as realistic as possible shows in every single scene. They did not rely on make-shift sets but chose locations that have brought that era to life.

Other than this, the overall looks of all the actors involved are completely in line with the era and the roles they are playing. Most importantly the actors are seen carrying these looks with the utmost ease. This adds to the effortless portrayal and gives the realistic feel needed to make their stories more relatable.

All those viewers who have tuned into Jo Bichar Gaye have been blown away by it, which basically goes to show that the Pakistani viewers want to watch dramas that are not run-of-the-mill. Jo Bichar Gaye is definitely setting the bar higher than ever. Are you watching the drama? Share your thoughts about it.

5 Reasons Why Hum Tum Is a Must-Watch

The latest trend of showing Ramazan special dramas has become a massive hit with the viewers. It can be safely stated that over the years, the writers and the directors have learned to give these dramas the right treatment. This trend started in the early 2000s but it did not pick up until now. Suno Chanda definitely deserves credit for appealing to the masses and giving the viewers some unforgettable characters and performances. This year as well Hum has taken the lead by airing not just one but two Ramazan special dramas with a star cast. Hum Tum is turning out to be yet another feather in Hum’s cap for many reasons. It has a great deal going for it and for that reason, it is a must-watch.

The script of the drama has been written by the Suno Chanda fame writer Saima Akram Chaudhry, it has been directed by the ace director Danish Nawaz and it is a Momina Duraid Production. Writing comedy and executing a comic script on-screen is no easy feat. Hum Tum delivers in so many ways that once you tune into the show, you are instantly hooked to it. Even though most Ramazan special dramas follow similar themes, the writer proves that she knows how to incorporate progressive ideas while staying within the basic framework of such shows.

Here are 5 reasons why Hum Tum is a must-watch:

Thoroughly Entertaining

When it comes to Ramazan dramas, in particular, the entertainment value outweighs every other factor. Since Hum Tum is a comedy serial just like all the other Ramazan specials, therefore the main reason most people would tune into this show is to get entertained. Comedy is perhaps the most difficult genre since it can be a hit or a miss. Hum Tum keeps you engaged and entertained. It gives you a lot to laugh about with its quality content. The overall feel and the content of the show are on point. The casting is picture-perfect which adds to the entertainment value. Most importantly it has enough substance to offer something new in every single episode without compromising on quality. Saima Akram Chaudhry definitely outdid herself this time around and Danish Nawaz has given this drama the right treatment. In the beginning, it feels as if some of the characters or scenarios are over the top but as the story progresses, the treatment given to the play grows on you. If you have not started watching this drama yet, tune in now and we guarantee you will be immediately hooked on it!

5 Reasons Why Hum Tum Is a Must-Watch

Progressive Female Characters

The reason why Hum Tum is hands down the best Ramazan drama we have watched so far are the progressive female characters. Even though there is an underlying theme that highlights how some parents value sons more than daughters, the female characters are strong and independent. The drama breaks stereotypes like no other. It has intelligent and independent females who cannot do housework and do not feel the need to do so! On the other hand, the men are more independent in this department. Along with the progressive main female leads, young and old, the main male characters Adam and Sarmad have great respect for all these women. Even though Adam and Neha are constantly fighting, Adam does accept the fact that Neha is an intelligent young lady. Also, he is against the idea that having a son is a must or that girls cannot do things that men can. Even Tammana Nani believes in financial independence.

Brilliant Characterizations

Characterizations play a major role in making or breaking a script. Hum Tum has a variety of characters and there is something new and likable about all of them. Whether they are the independent females such as Maha, Neha, Milli, or Sasha or the male leads, all these characters bring something new to the table. The most important element of this play which stands out are the older characters such as Daddu and Tamana Nani. They are not just the older parents in the story but they are also characters with a life and objective of their own. Both of them have their own careers and aspirations in life. They are full of life and question the idea that a person should stop living their lives to the fullest at a certain age. These characters are just as strong as most of the leading characters. Even though the writer has successfully broken so many stereotypes, she has done so while keeping things as realistic as possible. There are obviously comic situations that are over the top but characterizations are on point, throughout.

5 Reasons Why Hum Tum Is a Must-Watch

Refreshing on-screen Couples

The refreshing casting in general and the on-screen couples, in particular, make Hum Tum a drama that should not be missed. Apart from the casting, the dynamics of at least one of these couples, Neha and Sarmad, are such that you find yourself thoroughly enjoying their scenes. Sarah Khan and Junaid Khan make a great on-screen couple. They have also played their respective characters brilliantly. Adam and Neha are a lot like many other on-screen couples we have seen in previous Ramazan specials but the casting is definitely on point. There are times when Adam in particular takes it too far but the fact that he has an underlying respect for Neha because of her intelligence makes him a likable character. Also, the fact that both of them have fathers who never valued them, makes their dynamics more interesting and wholesome. Both these tracks have been written down so well. I am sure many viewers out there must be rooting for nani and Daddu too but so far there is nothing of that sort between them.

5 Reasons Why Hum Tum Is a Must-Watch

A Complete Package

Hum Tum is one of those few comedy dramas this year which offers a complete package. It is not mindless entertainment since the writer has made a conscious effort to add meaning to the script. The cast couldn’t have been more perfect; all the actors are clearly enjoying playing their respective roles and therefore entertain every time. There are times when Ahad’s Urdu pronunciation is not ideal but other than that he has given a solid performance. The direction of the drama goes well with the content. Most importantly, Hum Tum keeps you glued and looking forward to more. The only issue is that even though it’s a Ramazan special, the theme is not based on Ramazan like it was in Suno Chanda but other than that, the writer has nailed every single aspect of the story.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Ertugrul Ghazi (Dirilis Ertugrul) is a Turkish series that recently aired in Pakistan. The series has been dubbed in Urdu for the Pakistani viewers. So far only season 1 of the series has been dubbed in Urdu but the series is already being watched in Pakistan by many with the help of English subtitles. This is one of those rare dramas which has been recommended by the Prime Minister itself and which gave PTV home thousands of new subscribers online. The popularity of this series has definitely surpassed any other. The series shows the life and times of heroes who laid the foundations of the Ottoman Empire. It isn’t only immensely popular in Pakistan but in many other countries of South Asia and the Middle East as well.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

This is also not the first time that a Turkish drama received such appreciation and viewership in Pakistan. In the past, too Turkish dramas dubbed in Urdu had a massive viewership. Some of the local producers and actors do not like the fact that Turkish dramas are being given air time on Pakistani channels. When Turkish dramas started airing in the beginning, there was a lot of opposition against them within the showbiz fraternity. People however like the variety which is being offered to them. Now that most of the Pakistanis are confined to their houses, they have more time than ever to watch different series. This is another reason why people are watching Ertugrul Ghazi not just on the television but also on YouTube.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

It won’t be wrong to say that right now, Ertugrul Ghazi has turned into a phenomenon. This is the most-watched and talked-about drama right now. People are completely hooked to this show and here are 5 reasons why Ertugrul Ghazi has been such a massive success.

A Different Genre

When compared to our local dramas Ertugrul Ghazi is a different genre altogether. Pakistani viewers do not get to watch stories based on the life and times of heroes from the past. Ertugrul Ghazi isn’t just a historic drama but it also delves deep into human psychology and emotions. It is also not an easy feat to pen down such a story that covers so many years and so many different incidents. The fact that the writer has done complete justice to every single aspect of this genre definitely adds to its popularity. Since Ertugrul Ghazi is just the story of the protagonist but it is the story of every single influential person of that time, the drama encapsulates that time and era with utmost perfection.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Visually Stunning

Ertugrul Ghazi’s visuals are beyond impressive. The story is set in so many different places, outdoor and indoor locations have been used throughout. The people in charge have made sure that they captured the beauty or even darkness of every place which is being covered flawlessly. The viewers are constantly being taken from one location to the other. The camerawork throughout is amazing. It is due to these stunning visuals that the viewers are actually transported to another world and it is difficult to release oneself from the magic of Ertugrul Ghazi.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Well-Choreographed Action

There are many action scenes in Ertugrul Ghazi therefore it can safely be said that it is a complete action thriller. The action scenes at times can be gory as well. The action scenes have been so well-choreographed that you feel every sword that is being swung. The fact that Ertugrul Ghazi is a big-budgeted project reflects from the kind of attention which has been paid to these action scenes. This element of the series makes it a favorite among the male viewers too.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Inspiring Characters

Without the inspiring characters which have been fleshed out so wonderfully, Ertugrul Ghazi wouldn’t have been the success it is. All the characters go through different phases, they keep you guessing and there are some like some of the leading characters which are truly inspiring. Ertugrul’s bromance and comradeship with his alps and his relationship with his parents are touching. Strong supporting characters such as Ibn Arabi and Demir keep you looking forward to more.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Ertugrul Ghazi also has some of the strongest and inspiring female characters. There are so many female characters in the play who are shown playing an active role in the social set up. The women can fight and stand by their men like a rock. The journeys of all the characters have so many ups and downs that you can’t help but tune in to a new episode every single day.

5 Reasons Why Ertugrul Ghazi Is So Popular

Powerful Messages

Ertugrul Ghazi overall has a powerful message throughout. The whole series is based on the fight of good vs evil. Throughout the series, there are so many references to the Quran and Islamic teachings. This drama has an educational value and it opens up your minds. You learn as you go and that too while getting entertained by the story. The main message of this series is that it is really important to hold on to your faith and eventually good triumphs over evil. It also has the message that one must hold on to their good values even when faced with the most adverse circumstances.

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

Dunk was one of those dramas most people were looking forward to watching because of its fresh pairing more than anything else. Bilal Abbas Khan and Sana Javed have both impressed the viewers in their recent dramas therefore the viewers had a reason to see them together on screen. Also, Dunk went on air a few weeks after it was announced therefore the excitement was still intact when it was aired. However, Dunk’s journey overall right from the time it was promoted has not been up to the mark. Even though it is one of those dramas which are getting the ratings, it has disappointed in many ways. While the producers manage to tick all the boxes which ensure viewership, they compromised on quality and authenticity. There is no denying the fact that all the actors have given their best but there is so much more that is just not right with the drama.

Here are the 5 reasons why Dunk has been a major disappointment.

The Producer’s Approach

The approach of the producers became quite apparent when few days before it aired, Dunk was promoted as a drama that was going to be really controversial. Fahad Mustafa made sure everyone knew what the basic premise of the drama was, which was in fact controversial. He went as far as saying that Dunk was a tribute to victims of false allegations of sexual harassment. Bilal Abbas Khan followed his lead and warned the viewers that Dunk was based on a ‘controversial topic. Well, the producers got the attention they were looking for since we all know that controversy sells! At a time when the #metoo movement was at its peak and there were so many people trying really hard to educate others regarding victim-blaming, in particular, Fahad Mustafa’s production house came up with a drama that seemed to be pleading the case of the group which indeed exists but is definitely in minority! Like Fahad Mustafa himself said that they were speaking for the 5 percent of the people involved in such cases! Even before the drama started the approach of the producers was quite apparent.

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

Fahad Mustafa gave another interview before Dunk aired and he made it clear that he was in the business of making dramas to earn money therefore that was his top priority. That was another unfortunate statement from someone who has in the past and even now made dramas on sensitive issues. He made his intent more clear than ever and this was a major put-off for many. Fahad Mustafa proved to be an irresponsible individual who couldn’t care less about the effect his dramas may have. This was definitely not the best start but we are pretty sure Fahad Mustafa did not mind the negative publicity he got since as a result of this many of the viewers tuned into the show out of curiosity. Big Bang Entertainment’s approach has always been ‘commercial’ right from their first drama Dusri Biwi but this time around they were not just commercial but also careless in their approach.

The Forced Element of Mystery

After Cheekh our drama makers, in general, have been fixated with adding an element of mystery to every single instance of harassment, rape, or murder! Since Big Bang Entertainment was the first production house that started the ‘trend’ it does not come as a surprise that they decided to carry on with it. While people love mystery, the mystery element in Dunk is forced since the producer himself revealed the main secret before the drama went on air. Why the viewers should even be wondering who is right and who is wrong when it has been spelled out for them already?! It was the most ridiculous idea to share the main premise of the story when half of the script rested on the mystery element! Most of the viewers tuned into the drama knowing that it was based on false allegations yet Amal’s character was meant to ‘dodge’ the viewers into thinking that she in fact was innocent. The major reason why the first half of the drama completely disappointed was that the treatment given to these episodes made no sense since the producer had already shared the main crux of the story.

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

The Treatment

Since the intention of the producers was to sensationalize a serious issue, they must have asked the director to have an approach that was in line with their thinking. That is the reason why the director has given such a treatment to the drama that every single aspect of the story has been sensationalized to the maximum. The excessive and dramatic background music even when it is no needed is a lame attempt to keep the viewers ‘excited’ even when there is no reason! Apart from this, the rona dhona by the professor’s wife has been excessively exaggerated more than once. Although Yasra Rizvi is a brilliant actress otherwise she has gone overboard more than once while enacting the anger and frustrations of her character. The director’s main objective was to overdramatize the situations and his intention was never to tell the story! The script wouldn’t have come across as non-serious if the director had not tried so desperately to add the overdramatic element to the drama.

The ‘Balaa’ Formula

Drama serial Balaa was also produced by Big Bang Entertainment and it was a commercial hit by all means. The drama rested primarily on a negative female character who fooled everyone left right and center. Since this ‘formula’ worked and the public was hooked to Nigar’s negativity and even more so eager to find out how she would get punished in the end, the production house decided to follow the same formula here as well. Dunk rests heavily and to a nonsensical extent on Amal’s negativity which can easily be termed as psychopathic behavior. While Nigar’s negativity had a certain background, Amal’s behavior has been left unexplained. The only explanation given by the writer was that she wanted some excitement and she did everything to save Haider! Even after all these weeks, Amal’s actions have no concrete justification or reasoning other than the fact that she is pure evil! It is really convenient for the writers to rest their entire story on such unexplained negativity of female characters. Everyone else around Amal believes her with their eyes closed and no one suspects her for a second even! Just like it was shown in Balaa, Nigar literally got away with murder right till the end, Dunk will continue following the same route and the viewers will not get to see the kind of punishment they are waiting to watch Amal go through. Even the posters of the dramas are more or less the same!

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

It is unfortunate that the public in general watches dramas centered around such characters which is why the writers create such balaas for dramas. Had the writer added certain nuances to Amal’s character or given someone else around her enough sense to question her actions and look at situations objectively, the entire storyline would have been more logical. Like is the case with any other such drama, one person is the victim (to an extreme extent) and the perpetrator gets away with everything right till the end.

Glorifying Toxicity

It would be safe to say that Amal is the only central character in Dunk who has been leading for the past few episodes. Ever since Amal’s negative and toxic side has been revealed she is the star of the show, quite literally. The writer has penned down the story in such a way that Amal’s toxic personality and her evil designs are central to the story and everything else simply takes a backseat. This could easily have been Haider’s story as well if he was given more strength and wasn’t turned into a victim wholly. Like many other such dramas, the writer has glorified a negative character by making her get away with everything. The producer Fahad Mustafa said that people will ‘enjoy’ watching Dunk which means that he is pretty sure that the Pakistani viewers like watching such negative female characters. We really need to make more drama where the more nuanced characters take the lead and our heroines and heroes are not psychopathic individuals whose life revolves around making other people’s lives hell.

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

Also, the fact is that more women, in reality, are afraid of coming forward in cases of harassment and rape. Content such as Dunk will definitely not help anyone where a woman is being shown in such a light. Surely, there are negative and evil women but there are many more who in fact are victims, and showing such dramas can seriously impact their journeys. The fact is that Amal’s character and actions are being glorified because even after all these weeks, there isn’t a single person who even remotely doubts her. The storyline is definitely focused in a certain direction which is neither enjoyable nor educational!

Final Thoughts

While there are dramas such as Dil Umeed Tu Nahin and even Aulaad (from the same production house as Dunk) which have a definite purpose in mind, there are others such as Dunk which have the sole purpose of acquiring ratings and they can go to any length in order to achieve that end. The producers are more than welcome to make commercial dramas in order to gain more profit but they really should think twice before making dramas on such sensitive issues. Big Bang Entertainment in particular needs to stop cashing in on negativity by showing women as toxic individuals who exploit ‘poor’ men!

5 Reasons Why Dunk Has Been a Major Disappointment

If they really want to support a cause then their approach needs to be more responsible and less commercial! Dunk producers don’t want to tell a story, they merely want to cash in on the project. Had it not been for the phenomenal acting of some of the leading actors, Dunk would not even be getting the views that it is getting owing to its problematic content and approach. After the success of Nand and Jalan, the negative woman running the show seems to be a favorite scenario with the Big Bang Entertainment.

Are you watching Dunk? What are your thoughts?

5 Reasons Why Bushra Ansari Should Quit Hosting!

Like every other person who thinks that our talented Bushra Ansari can do it all I also thought that she will nail hosting her own Morning Show too. I was also very happy to see stars from the past being invited in her shows because all the other Morning Show hosts focus more on young actors and actresses. While attempting to watch a few episodes of her Morning Show I have come to the conclusion that Bushra Ansari should not host any shows at all. Rest of the Morning Show hosts are typical and they also show the same old things but there are some things about Bushra Ansari that are especially irritating and more importantly it looks like she might be setting a few very bad precedents which other hosts might be tempted to follow.

I think that when someone is hosting a show they should be decent and they should encourage the guest to talk about themselves but Bushra Ansari overacts and does some things which are not very decent.

Talking More About Her Own Experiences Than Letting The Guests Talk!

Bushra Ansari always brings her own experiences related to work and family both in all her shows. There is nothing wrong with that as long the guests get to share their thoughts with equal freedom too. She asks a question but does not wait for an answer from the guest and starts saying things on the topic herself! We understand that Bushra Ansari is very experienced but she should understand that this show is not about advertising her own self but about getting to know more about her guests. Whenever I watched her show at the end of the show I realized that I found out very little about the guest and a lot about what Bushra Ansari did in her life!

The “Evil” Laughter!

Bushra Ansari’s laughter would fit perfectly in any animation where there is a wicked witch who has succeeded in accomplishing her evil plans but it is not fit for anything else. Her laughter is strange and evil, she really should work on it! It suited Shazia Chaudhry’s character but it does not suit Bushra Ansari the hostess!

bushra1

Flirting With Her Guests

Nida Yasir, Shaista Wahidi and Sanam Jung are not perfect hosts too but at least they have enough integrity to not flirt with their guests. Sometimes it looks like Bushra Ansari takes undue advantage of her age and thinks people will excuse her for flirting with actors who are young enough to be her sons because she is old enough to be their mother! The flirting is uncalled for and it doesn’t fit in at all.

Greeting The Guests With Hugs And Kisses

Whether it is one of the old actors or the young ones Bushra Ansari’s way of greeting them is highly unpleasant. Their personal ties aside, Bushra Ansari should keep things decent on television. I hope that other hosts won’t be following her footsteps.

Dressing Up Like A Teenager

Bushra Ansari carries herself and dresses up like she is a teenager. I would say that younger hosts of different Morning Shows do not look so inappropriate when they wear fashionable clothes or do not wear a duppata but such clothes and the absence of duppata does not suit someone who people want to respect because of her experience and age.

Bushra Ansari does not make her guests play silly games on her shows but she has not been able to host the show with the grace with which the viewers wanted her to host it. Bushra Ansari is very good at doing comedy but this comedy is somewhat inappropriate for a Morning Show. I wish that Bushra Ansari showcased her intelligence more than her comic skills in her show. Bushra Ansari concluded her last Morning Show this week and with this show it would be really good if she concludes her hosting career altogether.

What do you think? Do you like Bushra Ansari’s hosting skills?

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Noor Jahan is a drama that is winning hearts on ARY Digital. The drama is written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Musaddiq Malik. Noor Jahan has a huge cast including Saba Hameed, Kubra Khan, Ali Raza, Ali Rehman Khan, Zoya Nasir, Hajra Yamin, Alina Abbas Shah and Noor Hassan. The drama looked like any other saas bahu saga as soon as the teasers dropped and that is what it can technically be classified as but after over 20 episodes, Noor Jahan has proven to be so much more than just a typical saas-bahu story without anything to remember it by. It has managed to become one of the top shows of the season and several reasons have elevated it to such a status. Here are the 5 biggest reasons that make Noor Jahan much more than your everyday drama:

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Complex & Intriguing Characters

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

On the shallow surface Noor Jahan is the story of a toxic mother-in-law, three mama’s boys and four daughters-in-law. But that is not what Noor Jahan is. The drama is more like a political thriller or a game of chess with all the characters having special moves and limitations that keeps the game interesting. Noor Jahan is a toxic mother-in-law but she also represents a dictator who will impose his will on his people and will never take any democratic decisions. The daughters-in-law represent how populace from different economic strata are bound in such a system, with the rich having some liberty while the poor are fully bound. The sons represent the institutions and bureaucracy who will never speak against power and if somone does (like Murad), they will be put in their place. The drama is therefore connecting with Pakistanis on a deeper level as they are much familiar with such systems.

Psychological Thriller Vibes

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

The underlying tension in Noor Jahan is also something that sets it apart from a normal everyday saas bahu drama. The main character Noor Jahna is not a typical mother-in-law running plots against her family. She is more of a sociopath with plans that she executes to gain her objectives. She killed Mukhtar Shah and used her sons to achieve her desire. She wanted to take away all his property not because she needs the money but because she wants him to suffer even in his grave. The way she celebarted the miscarriage of her own granddaughter and justified her behaviour in front of her son by calling daughters an unnecessary burden shows how evil and manipulative she is. She is running the household not like an evil saas/ mother but more like a scientist with all her children and now grandchildren as lab rats.

Mind Blowing Performances

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Noor Jahan has some mind-blowing performances with Saba Hameed taking the lead in quite the literal sense. She has hit it out of the park and she has shown once again why she is one of the best artists in this country. Her makeup, her styling and her expressions are not of Saba Hameed but Noor Jahan. She has brought the character to life like no one else could have done. Saba Hameed is rocking as Noor Jahan and she should get all the nominations in the coming year as she is literally the best.

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Another stand out performance is Alina Abbas Shah who is playing Safina in the show. She is representing the majority women of Pakistan who are stuck in a situation that is causing them pain but they do not bow down and show their dissatisfaction in other ways. The way she has also represented a middle class daughter and mother-to-be to a daughter is hyper-realistic and mind-blowing. Alina is a great addition to the industry and she has surely gained a lot of new fans after playing Safina.

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Yousaf Basheer Qureshi is another actor who has gained massive love for playing Mukhtar Shah. Though he was there for just a few episodes but the impact he left is still being felt by the audience.

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Everyone else including Noor Hassan, Kubra Khan and Ali Rehman Khan are also doing justice to their characters.

Raising Awareness

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Noor Jahan is subtly raising awareness about some huge problems prevalent in our society. The toxic obsession of having sons is represented quite realistically by Noor Jahan. She is even happy when the girl child dies, something that many of us have seen in seemingly educated families around us. Noor Jahan brought Maha home representing how giving birth to a son washes away all your sins in this society. Noor Jahan is also showcasing how women from the middle class are stuck in relationships as they cannot go back to their parents’ house and they cannot support themselves. With Noor Bano, the writer and director have shown how financial independence makes a woman stronger in every facet of her life.

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Gripping & Fast-Paced Story

5 Reasons Noor Jahan Is More Than Another Saas-Bahu Drama

Noor Jahan is brilliantly directed by Musaddiq Malik who was the name behind Habs before this. Zanjabeel also came with a brillant script after a string of disappointments. Noor Jahan is fast-paced and does not drag even for a bit. This has also hooked the audience. With two episodes coming every week, something new happens every time and all the characters are evolving with no unnecessary flashbacks. The writer has also made all the tracks interesting and none of the characters bore you. Noor Jahan keeps you hooked from start till the end which is making it a winner with the audience.

Musaddiq Malik’s Noor Jahan has proven itself to be more tan your typical saas-bahu saga and it is a lesson for all the other makers that you can experiment within the same genre too if you put in a bit of effort. Let’s see how Noor Jahan fares in the coming episodes but for now, it is a definite winner!

5 Questions We Want To Ask To The Makers of Drama SANAM!

Sanam is a show that till now couldn’t pick up the pace nor introduced anything interesting. It is getting boring to an extent that we are just completely loosing our interest. Not long but only a few episodes old drama has got the viewers mad. The previous episode had some good bits but seems like the upcoming episode is going to be same.

The OST of the show was so engaging that the audiences were eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds and not long ago we actually hoped that the story might get better but now the makers have crossed limits of insanity.

1) Our dear Harib fell in love for the third time. We know third time but why?Okay we understand first love was the old one but then falling in love with two girls in such a short span of time is just not working. He falls in love so frequently as if love is on sale and he doesn’t want to miss a single chance to grab it!So ek anar aur 100 bemar opss no Ek Anar aur teen beemar

ca3bc_osman-khalid-butt-2

2) Is khana so important?I mean i literally feel that to the makers it’s more important to focus on food than anything else. Whether it be the anda paratha or the ice cream it surely gets the full coverage. Please For heavens sake we aren’t craving for food nor anda paratha sounds appealing.

3) The most buzzing question,Why is this guy(Harib) so so bechara? This is the question i desperately want to ask to the writer of the drama that what made her think we are going to like seeing someone this bechara who would say nothing but just act so masoom and helpless as if we’re gonna come and help him LOL. Why don’t you stay quite than saying something that has no meaning, where do you actually stand or do you really even have a stand or not!

osman-cry

4) So surprise guys,we now have a new entry and that is Sara. A girl that just seems so unfit in this drama but the makers are trying hard to fix her in. I wonder why was she even needed. They already showed Aila evil and now even Sara is evil so according to the makers every girl Harib every loved was evil, funny isn’t it because seems like Harib was all blind while dating these innocent looking girls. And why does every girls world revolves around Harib?Whats so good about him, well alright we know he looks good but isn’t it quite weird watching every girls live revolving around a same person!

5) Alright so you decided to make the drama interesting with the few supporting roles which were literally created with no common sense. That old zamana relatives who wouldn’t let you live separately…isn’t that something we have been seen in dramas for years. Anything new to offer us?The answer certainly seems no and oh yes how can i forget the new little baby girl Fatima. What are the makers trying to implement by bringing her to the story, she got an extra ordinary coverage in the previous episodes.

5 PTV Classics Everyone Should Watch

0

No matter how corny it sounds, but our state channel Pakistan Television has an inevitable place in our drama history. Those were the days when only a two minute silent scene was enough to make an ordinary person a recognized star. Those were the times, when script was the primary importance and artists used to rehears at least ten times before facing the camera!

We all have grown up watching PTV, some of the plays were breathtakingly ah-mazing and some were just good time-fillers. But there is another category other than these two; the category of must-watch PTV classics, the plays that everyone should watch!

Khuda Ki Basti

Khuda-Ki-Basti

“Mother of All Serials” Khuda Ki Basti is Pakistan Televisions’ record breaking sensational novel-based play that actually was produced and broadcasted twice on TV, each time creating the same excitement among the masses! That was the time when a PTV play was a good enough reason for barren streets and pin drop silence on otherwise roaring roads. A true reminiscent of PTV’s glory that now deserves to be taught in our acting academies.

The script of the play was written by Shaukat Siddiqui. It was a Sahira Kazmi direction, featuring some of the legends of Pakistani drama industry; Qazi Wajid, Zaheen Tahira, Mehmood Ali, Behroz Sabzwari, Munawar Sultana and others.

Aangan Terha

mm

Aangan Terha – a witty comedy with just the perfect tinge of satire is another play that you should totally watch, if haven’t already. The settings and plot of the play was amazingly simple featuring only three main characters, Mehboob Aalam, Jahan Aara Baigum and Akbar, played by Shakeel Ahmad, Bushra Ansari and Saleem Nasir respectively.

Originally the play was a satirical commentary on the sociopolitical upheavals of 80’s Pakistan, penned by none other than Anwar Maqsood. Each actor was a suitable fit in the character, giving their best but it was Bushra Ansari who actually nailed it. She was quite young to play the character of an aged nagging wife back then but till date it is one of her most flawlessly done projects.

Shehzori

Shehzori

“Mein Bohot Buri Aadmi Hun”  How many of you can still recall this sentence? It was the pillow talk of hilarious Neelofar Abbasi in Shehrozi, which undoubtedly is one of the best slapstick comedies PTV ever presented.

Haseena Moin’s debut serial Shehzori is a hilarious play that revolves around a tom boyish girl Tara (played by Neelofar Abbasi) who apparently is a kiddish girl who gets nothing right but eventually evolves as a strong woman with a firm standing point. The play belonged to the black and white PTV era and Neelofar and Shakeel is without any comparison the cutest on screen couple of that time.

Tanhaiyan

tanhaiyan

From the pen of Haseena Moin, the cult classic PTV play Tanhaiyan is the story of two sisters Zara and Sanya who dig deep into the philosophy and essence of living in an attempt to get their parent’s house back. The play was a hot favourite among the audience giving the ultimate fame and popularity to the entire cast that includes Shehnaz Sheikh, Marina Khan, Behroz Sabzwari, Qazi Wajid, Asif Raza Mir and others.

This is probably the only PTV classic that made it to its sequel. Approximately after 27 years, Marina Khan came up with a sequel of Tanhaniyan that was very much the culmination of the same story but of course with new twists. New faces included Syra Yousaf, Alishbah Yousaf, Shehroz Sabzwari and Shehertar Munawar Siddique.

Ankahi

ankahi2

Timmy, Jibran, Maamoo, Faraz and Sana – sounds a bit familiar maybe? We all have grown up watching this family and share a common love for them, don’t we? The outstanding duo of Haseena Moin and Shaoib Mansoor presented Ankahi, the unforgettable PTV play in early 80’s.

Ankahi was a mega-cast play starring Jamshed Ansari, Shehnaz Sheikh, Shakeel, Javed Sheikh, Salim Nasir, Behroz Sabzwari, Badar Khalil and others. Ankhai was the story of unexpressed emotions and unfulfilled desire, one of those plays that kept the audience giggling only to leave them with an ultimate deep sorrow. Ankahi has been telecasted quite a few times now and its DVDs are still selling like hot cakes, you definitely need to grab one if you already haven’t amused yourself by this play.

How many of these PTV classics have you watched already? Don’t forget to add your personal favourites in the list by commenting!

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

58

Mere Pass Tum Ho is going to end soon. 18 episodes of Mere Pass Tum Ho have already gone on air. This drama has a total of 22 episodes. That means that in the next 4 episodes, we will see the climax and eventually the ending of Mere Pass Tum Ho. Like every other drama written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, this drama too has come to a point where there can be so many different endings to it. After episode 18 of Mere Pass Tum Ho aired, most viewers are unsure about how they want the drama to end. Up until episode 18 everyone was sure that they wanted to see Mehwish suffer. Now that Mehwish has no place to go and she is helpless, most viewers feel differently. The credit for this goes to Ayeza Khan, the writer and the director. They make the viewers feel whichever way they want to. When they want to make the viewers angry at Mehwish, that is exactly the response they get. In the previous episode, Mere Pass Tum Ho makers obviously wanted people to feel for Mehwish and that is what has happened. There have been so many different twists and turns in Mere Pass Tum Ho that it is a little difficult to predict how this drama will end. It doesn’t hurt to discuss the possible endings of the drama so we will do just that!

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

Here are 5 possible ways, Mere Pass Tum Ho can end.

Danish Forgiving Mehwish

After the previous episode it seems highly likely that Danish will forgive Mehwish. Until episode 17, it didn’t seem possible that Mehwish would actually feel remorseful but now it is clear that her character may take that turn. Up until now in Mere Pass Tum Ho, Mehwish has hardly ever been ‘sorry’ for anything at all. Danish still loves Mehwish, there is no denying that. Her phone call and apology might break the emotional barrier in the next two episodes. Since Danish divorced Mehwish therefore in order to get married to her again, she will need to enter into nikkah with another man. Will Salman be the one who will ‘help’ them meet that end? This is the only way to a happy ending which many people now want to see but no one wants to see this halala in a drama. It would however be new watching a man forgive a woman for infidelity for a change. Will the audience accept that?

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

Danish and Hania Getting Married

The promos of the upcoming episode showed that Danish might be considering getting married to Hania. Although, Danish has shown no such interest in Hania but Hania likes Danish. Hania’s sister in the previous episode also said that she needed to do whatever it took to save Danish. In that case Mehwish will be left alone. Rumi has always liked Miss Hania and wanted her as a permanent member of the family. Could this be the happy ending for Danish?

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

Danish and Maham Joining Hands

Since the past few episodes have focused solely on showing just how rich Danish has become. These episodes have also showed a different side of Danish. He is after all very business minded. Is it possible that Danish and Maham will eventually join hands and he will become the co-director of Shehwar Enterprise? Could it be that the drama will end with Danish being a business tycoon while Mehwish is left with nothing but regrets? That won’t make Danish happy too but then Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has often said that he does not believe in happy endings.

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

Mehwish Killing Shehwar

The cast interviews indicate that there is going to be a murder in Mere Pass Tum Ho. Will Mehwish end up killing Shehwar? We have seen two of the leading characters in Khalil-ur-Rehman’s plays killing people they love and themselves by taking poison. Will Mehwish get so angry that she will end up killing Shehwar in a similar way and she herself will end up in jail. This will be a dark ending but the best way to get Mehwish and Shehwar out of the way so that Danish and Hania can be together. Such an ending will also be the punishment which many viewers think both these characters deserve for betraying their spouses. Ayeza Khan also said that this drama had a lesson. If there is a lesson then it is highly impossible that Mehwish will in any way will have a happy ending.

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

Mehwish Ending Up In a Mental Asylum

Mehwish will feel guilty very soon. Soon enough she will realize just how wrong she was. She will also realize that she lost a man who loved her a lot. Will she go completely crazy and end up in a mental asylum? If this happens then the ending will be similar to drama serial Titli in which the heroine who left her husband for another man loses her senses in the end. There are still a lot of people who want to see Mehwish suffer. Such an ending will be satisfying for all such viewers who think Mehwish does not deserve forgiveness.

5 Possible Endings of Mere Pass Tum Ho

How do you want to see Mere Pass Tum Ho ending? Do you think that Mehwish deserves to be happy in the end? Will Danish and Hania be together in the end? Is Maham’s role over or has it just started? Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar said in an interview that while writing the ending of this drama, his hands were trembling and he was crying. No matter how this drama ends, it is sure to be an ending the viewers will remember forever.

5 Popular Actresses Who Are Very Choosy

0

Our drama industry is full of young and talented actresses but there are some who are more well loved than others because of their acting and charm. While there are some leading actresses like Saba Qamar, Maya Ali, Sanam Saeed and many others who work in dramas very often, there are some who we love to see in our dramas but for some reason they are very choosy about the projects they venture into. It is highly unlikely that these actresses do not get offers for dramas. I am very sure that producers have tons of projects to offer them but it looks like because of some reason they choose not to work in too many dramas. After reading and watching several interviews of these actresses I have come to the conclusion that they are not seen in dramas often because they are busy with other things which they find more appealing. Many of these actresses are not just actresses but they also hosts shows, are models, some are involved in charity work and others like theatre more than television. In a way this is good because it makes the viewers wait for their dramas and mostly they are seen in quality dramas but it also makes their fans wish they get to see them at least in a drama or two every year.

Sanam Baloch

Sanam Baloch is another actresses who brought some amazing characters to life on screen. She made Bano from Dastaan unforgettable, gave a flawless performance in drama serial Doraha and Daam       and she played young Shahwar’s character to perfection in drama serial Durr-e-Shahwar. Unfortunately the viewers do not get to enjoy Sanam’s brilliant performances in dramas because she hasn’t appeared on screen after drama serial Kankar in 2013.

In one of her interviews Sanam Baloch said that she can do only one thing at a time. She said that when she was hosting shows she thought that she couldn’t venture into acting but when she started working in dramas hosting was relegated to the background because acting itself is a very demanding profession. Right now she is busy in hosting her Morning Show therefore she is focusing on that because she tends to get completely lost in whichever venture she takes on. Sanam Baloch said, “I find hosting less challenging and more fun because you don’t have to act while hosting, you can be your own self.”

Although we don’t know anything about Sanam’s future plans regarding her drama career but we know that some day she would like to play the character of a blind girl if the opportunity presents itself.

sanam baloch

Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan has a massive fan following and any other actress with this kind of a fan following would usually be seen in a lot of dramas but that is most definitely not the case with Mahira Khan. Mahira Khan usually works in one drama a year and her presence alone ensures that a drama will be followed by majority of the viewers. Her innumerable fans would like it if they could see her in more dramas but Mahira is putting films before dramas for now. Bin Roye is the next big project starring Mahira Khan which fans are looking forward to eagerly.

mahira khan10

Nadia Jamil

Nadia Jamil has worked only in a few dramas but every time she makes an appearance on screen she leaves an everlasting impression on the minds of the viewers with her natural acting. Nadia Jamil has her very own style of acting which is casual yet impressive. The last time she was seen in a drama serial was back in 2012.

The reason we don’t see Nadia Jamil on television too often is that just like any other actor who started her career with theatre and is still attached to it, she does not find working in television dramas as rewarding as working in theatre. Nadia Jamil while giving an interview to a local magazine shared her feelings about working in TV in the following words, “TV tends to restrict you a lot. There is a lot of cast and takes involved. So eventually you lose your spontaneity. Then aren’t many good directors for TV. I just love working with Mehreen.”

Theatre artists do not get the fame and recognition which television artists get but is Nadia Jamil really in this profession for fame and recognition? “Not at all. Never seek recognition. If I were hungering for fame. I would have been doing plays right, left and center. I am into very selected work for TV right now and in fact trying o focus more on stage.” This is how Nadia Jamil thinks that is why we do not get to see her in dramas very often.

nadia jamil1

Alishba Yousuf

Alishba Yousuf is another one of those actresses who do not appear in dramas very often but whenever she takes up a project she makes sure she leaves her mark. Alishba does not give too many interviews and even if she does it is very seldom that she talks about her career or future plans. It seems like acting is more of a hobby for Alishba than a profession therefore she only acts when some project really appeals to her.

alishba1

Annie Jaffrey

Annie Jaffrey has worked in very few dramas but she always manages to translate the characters she plays perfectly on screen. Her effortless performances along with a style that is all her own makes her stand out in the crowd. Annie Jaffrey is currently the voice behind Burqa Avenger and it looks like that is something she enjoys doing. She is also the brand ambassador for Garnier. Annie Jaffrey is one of those celebrities who you like instantly not just for their talent but also their personality. She is another actress who is very choosy although there are many people who would like to see her in dramas more often.

annie jaffrey2

Sania Saeed’s name also comes to my mind and I am looking forward to watching her perform in ‘Tum Rahe Na Tum’. Savera Nadeem is another actress who was last seen in drama serial Bari Apa. Can you think of any other actresses who are popular but are very choosy? Do share your thoughts in the comments section:)

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

7

Every season, there are some dramas that are stretched to the limit. Gone are the days when Pakistani dramas were short and sweet. Except for a few dramas that end without testing the patience of the viewers, most of the dramas are stretched. Some of these dramas are stretched so much that the viewers just want to see them end. The only reason for stretching these dramas is the high ratings they get. The producers know that once they get the viewers hooked to a drama, they are likely to watch it till the end out of curiosity. Most of the time, a negative character is used to stretch such dramas. Just when the viewers want to see these negative characters getting punished, they get stronger than ever. As a result of this, the viewers start disliking and criticizing the dramas they looked forward to and loved watching.

Because, these dramas do not have the kind of story that can engage the viewers for so long, all the tracks lose their appeal and go haywire. This is what happens when edited scenes, forced scenarios and unnecessary flashback scenes are added to a drama in order to increase the number of episodes. Sometimes even the best stories go off track because of this reason. The writer adds an unwanted and unconvincing twist in the hope that it will make the viewers curious but most often these twists are not welcomed by the viewers.

Here is a list of Pakistani dramas that should end now since they have outlived their vitality.

Kashf

Kashf’s refreshing and convincing plot was the main attraction for the viewers when the drama started. For the first few weeks, this drama kept the viewers on the edge of their seats. As the story progressed, there was a lot of repetition and a few of the ‘refreshing’ tracks gradually turned into just another story involving an insecure husband and few negative characters taking over completely. Although Kashf has been on air for 27 weeks only which isn’t as long a duration as some of the dramas that were stretched in the past but the story has gone off track altogether.

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

Just like any other drama which has been on air for longer than it should have been, Kashf has lately been unconvincing and unappealing. All of a sudden Kashf’s main rival Matiullah has so much power that the viewers have been left wondering why he suffered for so long if he was capable of doing so much. Not only this, but Ashi’s character has also taken a turn which isn’t welcoming. It won’t be wrong to say that this drama started going downhill when Kashf got married. Since then, the writer has not been able to handle the story convincingly and as a result of that, the drama has become pointless. Most of the viewers have already lost interest in the drama due to the repetition and some unconvincing developments; therefore instead of making the viewers suffer, even more, this drama should now come to an end. A few fast-paced last episodes with a logical ending might make up for these flaws.

Nand

Nand is another drama serial that has been extremely popular because of its storyline and brilliant performances by some of the leading actors. For the longest time, this drama serial was both entertaining and meaningful. Just like most of the dramas on this list, Nand too has been dragged in the past few weeks due to the ratings it has been getting. A drama which for more than 20 weeks was fast-paced and convincing has gradually turned cold due to the unpleasant twists added in the story. Gohar’s return, the resulting conspiracies, as well as the turn Hassan and Farwa’s track took turned this drama into just another misguided drama that goes off track completely. This happened because the writer decided to stretch the drama at a time when it should have ended. There was no point adding different tracks especially unpleasant ones simply to prolong the drama.

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

Not only are these twists in the story unpleasant but they are not enough either to fill the 4 slots given to the drama during the week. Therefore, there have been plenty of flashback scenes, overuse of the OST to prolong the scenes and some of the scenes are dragged so much that watching the drama while it goes on air is impossible. Nand has started testing the patience of the viewers like no other drama has recently. A drama that had so many refreshing tracks has turned tedious to sit through. Now, the story has gone downhill and it has been scattered so much that it will take the writer another 10 episodes to give it a proper ending if the drama is dragged at this rate. It would be an intelligent move by the production house to give Nand an ending in the next 5 episodes by showing Gohar’s downfall and giving the characters which have been suffering for so long a happy ending.

Sabaat

Sabaat has a star cast and a big production house to back it up but it got mixed reviews from the critics and the general public from the start. The story of the drama revolves around certain relationships and how they are destroyed due to jealousy and the controlling nature of one of the people involved. Most of the viewers thought that Sabaat might offer something different and therefore tuned into it. The lack of character development and an unconvincing script disappointed the viewers but they continued watching the drama in the hope that the story will take an interesting turn at some point. Since Sabaat did not have substance to begin with and it was always a slow-paced drama, it has already been stretched a lot while testing the patience of the viewers. Even after 26 weeks, the leading characters have shown little growth and except for Anaya’s track in the story, all the other tracks are already repetitive and boring.

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

Sabaat’s story went off track when Miraal and Harris got married. It turned seriously disappointing when Hassan doubted Anaya. Just like all the other dramas that have been dragged, this one also banked on negativity. Even though this script has already been stretched a lot, the production house has decided to stretch it further by not giving it an early ending. There is not much left to show and if the writer wants to show some character growth then the story should move towards an ending soon since it is already too late for all that. Most of the viewers are expecting an abrupt, last-minute ending, others have given up on it altogether therefore it would be a wise idea to end this drama right now in order to avoid further criticism. Most of the people are watching the show at the moment only out of curiosity because they want to see how it ends. Unfortunately, the last episode got a good rating therefore the producers might just prolong the story even more! Miraal’s track continues to be pointless but Anaya’s track is getting interesting, the story overall, however, does not have enough going for it so this would be a good time to end the drama.

Tarap

Tarap started off on a strong note which is why most people were hooked to it even though it aired at 9 pm. Many people were of the opinion that this drama was far more interesting than most dramas that aired at prime time. The story had suspense and intrigue. Gradually, however, Zunaira’s character was turned into the ultimate victim who went through all kinds of problems. Her sufferings have been the center of attention for a long and if the writer does not plan to give the victimization of this character even more screen time then the drama should easily end soon.

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

There isn’t much left to show in the story and Tarap’s story can easily be concluded in two or three more episodes. Even though people feel sorry for Zunaira but they are also tired of watching her suffer. The story has come full circle now and there is no point dragging it further. Tarap is also one of those dramas which have been doing really well on the TRP charts therefore it is probably going to be stretched more. However, it would be so much better if it ends soon.

Tera Ghum Aur Hum

Tera Ghum Aur Hum’s story is not new but it is one of those entertaining dramas which kept the viewers entertained due to its fast pace. It also had a one-of-a-kind leading man who made some mistakes but did not do anything typical for the most part. The characters and their relationships were interesting throughout until recently. The writer added the two wives living in the same house scenario in order to stretch the story. As if this was not enough, the husband who was always anything but typical very soon fell for all the lies and started doubting his first wife. Once again, the trend has been the same – making the negative character win so that the story can be prolonged. This, it seems is a formula used by all the writers. Perhaps because people watch these dramas to see the good characters winning in the end, showing their downfall at a time when people are waiting for an ending is a way to keep them tuning into the drama.

5 Pakistani Dramas That Should End Now

The misunderstandings in Tera Ghum Aur Hum are already getting frustrating to watch therefore before spoiling a good story even more; this drama should end on a good note. The story has already been spoiled and the only way to keep it from getting even worse is to end it in a week or two.

5 Pakistani Celebrities with Tragic Ends

0

In the words of Richard Puz, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal and leaves a memory no one can steal”. Leaving us conscious of our own mortality and how fleeting time is, death is always unpleasant. And that death is made even more unbearable when when we don’t even get a chance to say goodbye to the ones we love. These Pakistani celebrities, some at the height of their careers and some just maturing into the business but all with great potential, had their lives abruptly ended by the hands of fate.

1. Waheed Murad

5 Pakistani Celebrities with Tragic Ends

Pakistani heartthrob and golden boy of the 60’s, Waheed Murad was the face of Pakistan’s golden age of cinema. Often referred to as the “Chocolate boy”, Waheed took the subcontinent by storm and was admired by all because of his charm and unusual talent. Born in Sialkot, Punjab, he graduated from S.M. Arts College Karachi and received his masters in English Literature from the University of Karachi. He made his first appearance in film in 1959, at the age of 21, and went on to feature in 125 films and earned 32 film awards. However by the late 1970s, it was being reported that Waheed was depressed and had become addicted to alcohol, oral tobacco and sleeping pills. His wife left him and he developed various stomach problems, at one instant having to remove a part of his stomach to avoid bleeding to death. He lost a lot of weight and his acting performances after that were also criticized as being weak. The day before he died he was in Karachi for a facial scar removal surgery and the day before had celebrated his son’s birthday. He was found dead in his room, with a paan leaf in his mouth and it is still unclear if his death was a heart attack or suicide. In his final interview, Waheed had said that he would like to be remembered by the song ‘bhooli hoi hoon dastaan, guzra hua khayaal hoon- Jisko na tum samaj sakay mein aisa aik sawaal hoon‘.

In November 2010, he was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz by Asif Ali Zardari for his work in the arts.

Here’s one of my favorite performances of him for your reminiscing!

Niggo’s mother had to fake being terminally ill to convince her daughter to come home where they ambushed her with pleas to leave Khwaja and brainwashed her to believe this was the right decision. Khwaja, confused by this turn of events, sent a mutual friend to convince his wife to return but to no avail. Disgruntled with the situation, Khwaja went down to her home himself and shot her with his Sten Gun. 5 Pakistani Celebrities Who Take Pride In Speaking Urdu

10

Urdu is a beautiful language. It is a language which includes a lot of words from Arabic and Persian, which makes it quite vast in terms of vocabulary. In the era of PTV, Urdu content was articulately complied and every single program used to be designed in such a way so that it could cater to the Pakistani audience and their understanding. Over the years, with the freedom of media and no checks on language criteria, Urdu has suffered a lot. The kind of Urdu that was heard during the PTV era is unfortunately only a dream. With the modernization of the Pakistani content and media, the diction has changed and evolved a lot. In dramas or movies, the medium that plays a huge part in promoting the mother tongue, the usage of English has become widespread.

As much as Pakistani actors are becoming globally accessible and are approaching the world to promote a positive image of Pakistan, they are learning English to make it easier for themselves to communicate. However, in such an era, there are very few celebrities who focus on Urdu and love to communicate in their mother tongue. There are very few celebrities who are eloquent in both English and Urdu, but they are sensitive to the fact that when they are making an appearance on Pakistani media, they must speak in Urdu because the larger part of the audience happens to understand it better.

5 Pakistani Celebrities Who are Real-Life Heroes

3

The field of entertainment demands an immense amount of time and unwavering dedication. It is also a world characterized by allure and extravagance. Pakistani celebrities, just like celebrities from any other part of the world, are frequently at risk of losing themselves in the middle of the constant demands of the industry. Within this highly competitive arena, celebrities must remain consistently devoted to their craft. This often leaves them with limited time to divert their energy towards welfare activities and other such purposes.

While many Pakistani celebrities such as Mahira Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Javeria Saud, Maya Ali, Ahsan Khan, and many others have associated themselves with different causes, there are only a handful of celebrities who have made these causes their primary purpose. Considering the kind of popularity and influence these celebrities exercise, there is so much more that they can do for their country, especially for that segment of society that has lost its voice.

A real hero in our opinion is any celebrity who has always been on the forefront while helping those in need. Not just this, these celebrities have over the years left no stone unturned to use their star power in the best way possible to benefit others. The love they feel for their cause is reflected in everything they do. While some of these heroes may not boast the same level of stardom as some of their counterparts in the entertainment industry, they have carved out a special place in the hearts of the people. Their authenticity, humility, and selflessness make them invaluable treasures in a world where fame often overshadows the true essence of humanity.

Here is the list of those Pakistani celebrities who are heroes in the true sense of the word:

Shehzad Roy

Shehzad Roy had a bright career as a musician and an on-screen persona that charmed many. However, for the past few decades, Shehzad Roy’s main focus has not been his music but his philanthropic work which has become his actual identity. At a young age, he founded Zindagi Trust and since then he has been silently altering the lives of those who needed this help the most. His trust focuses on the education of children as a tool for eradicating poverty and causing awareness.

In 2003, the Trust introduced the groundbreaking notion of “I-am-paid-to-learn,” a non-profit initiative designed to provide gainful opportunities for working children as a viable alternative to child labor. This program not only offers them a pathway to economic independence but also imparts crucial knowledge about their rights as children, laborers, and active members of society.

For the past many years, Nadia Jamil’s primary focus has been on nurturing and safeguarding the rights of children who find themselves in terrifying circumstances, particularly those who have been deprived of a promising future or who have endured the harrowing experience of sexual assault. This choice reflects her unwavering commitment to using her influence and resources to advocate for the voiceless and vulnerable.

Nadia also shared her own harrowing experience of being sexually assaulted at the young age of 4 so that she could give all such victims out there the inspiration to go on with their lives with their heads held high. Nadia Jamil has deliberately taken a step back from the spotlight of her acting career, a realm where she could easily continue to thrive, to fully immerse herself in her mission to assist and save children. This conscious decision is what truly elevates her to the status of a real-life hero in our opinion.
