“I Was Once Asked To Be A Body Double For Priyanka Chopra,” Shares Zhalay Sarhadi

If there’s one actress, who has that unique quality of making each character her own with her natural acting prowess, it’s Zhalay Sarhadi. Not just TV, the very talented actress earlier amazed us with Jalaibee and is now set to star in the upcoming movie Chalay Thay Saath.

The Express Tribune got in touch with the cast of Chalay Thay Saath, the conversation kick-started on a quirky note with the ever-charming Zhalay Sarhadi joking about being compared to Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra. “I started working the same year that Indian channels got banned in Pakistan and Priyanka became Miss World. I remember, I was hosting a show back then and everyone thought it was Priyanka and not me,” said the supermodel. “It’s been this way ever since that time. I bet even Priyanka knows about me by now.”

Zhalay recalled how once an Indian actor she had been working with sent a picture of hers to his friends and agents as a joke. “The agent asked him, ‘Who is this? Priyanka ki cousin aisi tau nahin hai. Someone from India then approached me to do a body double for Priyanka, which really offended me,” she said. “I thought, ‘really?’.”

About the role she has plays in Chalay Thay Saath, Zhalay proudly said, “I don’t play the female victim anymore; I do characters that are real. In films, you’ve got more opportunities to explore but breaking stereotypes takes a lot of work and I believe films like Chalay Thay Saath are doing that.”

“I Was Obsessed With Acting Since Childhood”, Says Ahad Raza Mir

The latest heartthrob of Pakistani entertainment industry, the boy who has started selling dreams from his very first drama as the male lead, Ahad Raza Mir says acting was not only his passion, but his obsession, to the extent that he would get on stage whenever he saw a remote chance of performing.

"I Was Obsessed With Acting Since Childhood", Says Ahad Raza Mir

Speaking to Nida Yair on her show, Ahad spoke about his aspirations as an actor just beginning to gain footage in the showbiz. He spoke of his gratitude and pleasure at the immense appreciation he has gotten during his first play. His parents had always allowed him to follow his heart’s desires and he knew that his heart was in acting, so it was a pretty straightforward choice for him to join this field.

He expressed his desire to venture into the film industry as well and is ready to learn and practice dancing, singing, romance and everything else required to succeed in there as well.

Speaking of his marriage, the handsome newcomer said that he prefers a beautiful soul rather than merely a pretty face, because the former is the only kind of beauty that lasts. He said he is closer to his mom and whenever he will feel the pull to marry a certain girl, he will be more inclined to share it with his mother than anyone else.

Ahad’s mother, Samrah Asif was also on the show. She said that Ahad is very complacent when it comes to food and appreciates everything that is served to him, and that he is very good in helping around the house and manages the chores including cooking and hoovering very well. She also spoke fondly of the mother son squabbles that she has with Ahad but they do not last very long from either of their side.

From this interview of his and his behaviour with audience, he seemed very genuine and humble and stardom does not seem to have reached his head yet. Hopefully, he will continue to remain himself as he proceeds to give us many more powerful performances to remember.

“I Want To Win An Oscar” – Gohar Rasheed

0

Gohar Rasheed started his career as an actor from theatre and like all the other theatre actors he is a very well established performer who is liked by the viewers for his perfect acting. Gohar Rasheed likes to dream big, that is why in his recent interview with MAG Weekly he shared a wish which many actors may not even dare to dream. He said,

“I want to win an Oscar, I really want to for being a good actor and I think I will someday.”

gauhar rasheed

Gohar does not only wish to win an Oscar but he also has enough faith in his talent to know that some day he will win it. He also has big plans for the future. Talking about his future plans he said,

“I’m thinking of venturing into direction. As far as acting is concerned, three films are in the pipeline out of which I’ve just signed one which is the mega project.”

Gohar Rasheed also said that his main motivation for doing good work was all the bad work that was being done nowadays. He said,

“Very honestly in Pakistan it is the bad work that I get to see is what inspires me to act. When I see unsatisfactory work, I feel motivated in a way and tell myself that this is something I don’t want to do.”

gohar rasheed

Gohar Rasheed also talked about his role in Mann Mayal. Talking about it he said,

“My role has shades, has lots of hues. That sums up – I’m that boy who is careless. He’s the kind of guy who means business to himself, but he goes through a transition and that changes everything, but what the change will be and how it will be, that’s the interesting part.”

He believes that acting is not to act, but react. Gohar Rasheed has big plans for the future and he wants to work hard to get where he wants to get.

“I want to make a film with Fawad Khan” Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

“Ban Pakistani Artists” movement first started in India around 2016. Shortly after the call for the ban, some Indian political outfits threatened Pakistani actors from entering the country and in retaliation Pakistani theatres pulled down Indian movies from their big screens.

The issue resurfaced last month when Union Minister Babul Supriyo said that Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song Ishtehaar in the Bollywood film Welcome to New York must be dubbed by someone else. Supriyo also demanded a ban on Pakistani artistes in Bollywood.

During a panel discussion ‘Controlling creativity: Is censorship relevant?’ alongside veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal at the Ficci Frames 2018 The national award-winning filmmaker Shonali Bose said the calls of bans on talent should be stopped. She also said though she wishes to cast Fawad Khan in a film she can’t do so owing to a ban on Pakistani actors in the country.

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

Responding to a question on how the constant restrictions from the Central Board of Film Certification is affecting the creativity and freedom of expression, Shonali said,

“Instead of taking action to protect the rights of women and project their image under the right light, they are restricting filmmakers from doing their work freely.”

She continued,

“Cinema should be free… For instance, Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in Indian films, and this decision is supported by Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. What if I want to make a film with Fawad Khan?”

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

When the moderator of the panel mentioned that her comment might earn her the title of an “anti-national”, Bose replied,

“That is the problem with our country nowadays. I speak of friendship between two countries. I want to make a film with Fawad Khan and nobody will allow me to make the film; producer will not back the film because of the risk and fear that has been created around it,”

For a country that faces problems like poverty, over population and rape Indian government seems way too focused on banning films and artists. This blind hatred for art and expression of speech will only end up destroying what’s left of the already ruined relationship between our countries.

No one is alien to this name, not anymore, our very own Qasim from O Rangreza. This O Rangreza star started his career with drama serials like Saya e Deewar Bhi Nahin, Dumpukht and Rasm e Duniya. The actor also has a feature film named ‘Thora Jee Le’ to his credits tho it wasn’t that huge a commercial success but we did get a talent house called Bilal Abbas Khan from it so not a complete loss after all.

When asked of how his experience was while working with star cast of O Rangreza here’s what the actor said,

“You know, it’s interesting; I heard that people loved Sajal and her work, and when I met her for the first time, I thought she was “just okay.” However, when I starting working with her, I realised that she has a very strong hold on her craft and is very supportive.”

He went on to add,

“She’s a senior to me career-wise and has been working in the industry for eight years so I learn a great deal from her. She and Noman Ijaz actually taught me how to use my eyes while acting. It’s been amazing working with her.”

"I want to do something that is out of the box" says Bilal Abbas Khan

Talking about the kind of scripts he is looking for now that O Rangreza is such a hit the actor said the following,

“I have been getting quite a few scripts and I am still going through them. I think I want to do something dark and intense now. I don’t want to play the ‘hero’. I saw the trailer of Padmavati recently and Ranveer Singh’s avatar in it – I absolutely loved it.”

He further added,

“I want to do something that is out of the box. Maybe a negative character which is something that is very different from my personality. That being said, there is no specific criteria because what I truly want to do is experiment and test my potential as an actor.”

"I want to do something that is out of the box" says Bilal Abbas Khan

Bilal also mentioned some of the directors he’d like to work with in future,

“My favourite director is Kashif Nisar and I got to work with him in O Rangreza. I’m fortunate enough to be working on his next project as well. I would also love to work with Ehteshamuddin, Farooq Rind and Mehreen Jabbar. Mehreen’s work is phenomenal and has uniqueness to it.”

He also added,

“I like to live in the moment and enjoy what I am doing right now so maybe in the future. Although the one thing that I am sure of is that acting is my full-time job and I would never leave it.”

“I Want People To Dance Because Dance Is The Best Way Of Expressing Your Emotions ” – Mehwish Hayat

0

Mehwish Hayat’s dance numbers have become very popular over the years not just because of her item number in Na Maloom Afraad but also because all the major award shows are incomplete without Mehwish Hayat’s dance performance. While talking about her passion for dance in the show “Tonite With HSY” Mehwish Hayat said that she did not get a formal dance training from anywhere because there aren’t any dance schools in Pakistan and for this reason she really wants to open a dance school one day.

1

“I want people to dance because dance is the best way of expressing your emotions. There are people who hold back and I want them to dance and experience this amazing feeling you feel when you dance,” said Mehwish Hayat while talking to HSY. Mehwish also said that she is always very confident before a dance performance. The applaud from the audience is the driving force during a dance performance for Mehwish.

2

Mehwish Hayat also shared that some of the seniors she really idealized let her down by putting her down when she worked with them. Mehwish Hayat rejoices every second of fame and recognition and is happy with where she is standing right now.

“I tried to match Mr Khan, I couldn’t but I tried to make it better.” – Mahira Khan

0

Mahira Khan who is considered one of the most loved and famous celebrities of recent times does not feel like such a big star while working in Bollywood but she admits that she followed the advice of those who told her not to be her nosy self while working with Shah Rukh Khan.

While talking to NDTV about her experience with working in Bollywood Mahira Khan was honest and candid. Mahira Khan shared her experience of working with King Khan in the following words, “I got to learn so much from Mr Shah Rukh Khan, like actually got to learn from him. I realized this when I came back. I came back and I shot for a song in Ho Mann Jahaan and my director was like, ‘What has happened to you’. He actually said that ‘you’ve shed a layer. You’ve grown as an actor.’ And I think it’s because I moved out of my comfort zone. At that time you don’t realize it because it’s happening so fast. But when you come back you realize, ‘Oh, I’ve learnt something’.

raees

Mahira Khan is also very conscious about her image in Bollywood, she wants to make everyone happy so she does not want to do anything that is likely to annoy anyone.  “I don’t know how people will take to me over there (Bollywood). But it was a very different experience. I went there like a sponge. I was just taking it all in. I didn’t want to step in on anybody’s toes. Because here, I’m very nosy. I’m in everybody’s space and job. And everyone warned me not to do this there. So I just sat, listened to them. I tried to match Mr Khan. I couldn’t, but I tried to make it better.”

Mahira Khan also talked about the difference she felt was there when you’re working in a film and when you work in a drama. “My first ever performance was in a film – Bol. It was a very tiny role, but it was a film. Then I came into drama, which became very successful. What I like about the films compared to drama is that it’s (films) not a never-ending story. It’s not repetitive. You are going to entertain for two hours, so you can’t b repetitive. In drama, you are coming on screen every Friday, so you have to remind the audience what happened last Friday. So, that’s the only difference. There is no other difference. For me, it’s only acting.”

mahira

The diva is very happy with her overall experience with Bollywood because like she explained, “The people were very kind and the crew was amazing. The crew was rooting for me. Even when I couldn’t get a dialogue right or a dance step right I could see them encouraging me. It was really nice. That’s what happened here (in Pakistan). I thought I’ll miss it there.”

ho mann jahan

Mahira also shared why she decided to dedicated 2 years of her career on a film when she had the option of working in many dramas. “I have invested two years of my life in Bin Roye, and solely because I had decided that I don’t want to do drama. And this was right after my serial Shehr-e-Zaat, which I did after Humsafar and everyone told me that ‘No one does this. What are you? You are just 2-3 serials old. Who does that?’. But the scripts that came sounded similar, even though some were amazing. But I thought that we are film ready. We are an industry, which is ready to get into films full throttle,” said the actress.

ho mann jahan1

While talking about her characters in the upcoming Pakistani films Mahira Khan said,  “Saba of Bin Roye is complex, doesn’t know anything, immature. She’s brash and rash. She’s complicated. She’s passionate and obsessed. She is everything that Manizeh, from Ho Mann Jahaan, is not. Manizeh is knows her mind, she’s mature. She a cool girl; she’s the quintessential girl of today.”

said Sajal. “It’s a lot of work, and frankly, acting is not just about the good life; or about fame and fortune – it’s about emotions that are inside of you and the energy and commitment required to work with them.”

Her views on her co-stars are also pragmatic: “If you’re into your character, you don’t have to be friendly and comfortable with your co-stars on a personal level – it’s better to be proficient, do your work and get it over with.” She is also quite wary of limelight and publicity; “I run away from awards, I don’t believe in them,” she said bluntly.

All one got to eat was cheese and bread, which I couldn’t stomach daily; interestingly the Indians bring also sort of foods with them on their travels, from papar to achaar! Since this was one of my first times abroad, my mother went with me to Georgia and would even cook for us. I really needed the emotional support, someone to fall back on during this new experience.”

Sajal is in her twenties and has been working really hard. “Women in Pakistan need to get out of self-suppression and self-victimisation, Only then can we raise a generation of strong individuals. Change starts from within you.”

I just didn’t want to do something which was not like real life and it was a beautiful experience to play the mother of a child in this film.” Dramas still continue to inspire Sajal, “Our television is our identity,” she said.

“I still haven’t completed my bachelor’s so I can’t really apply for a full-time programme, but filmmaking classes and courses would be useful,” she added.

I am extremely thrilled to have won.I worked extremely hard on this album and I guess all the hard work paid off.

This is obvious that the winning person always face criticism and Ayesha seems to take them open-handedly. She also said:

images (1)Haters will always hate and obviously jealousy will always exist! People who lose will always be sore.

The critics don’t always understand the way the minds of the masses work. Anything can appeal to them. Even something that is not technically great. Another huge music project is coming out right after Eid… you will see me performing in that as well. So the critics should wait and check that out.

I never expected to win. I don’t even come close to their experience and skill but this was a voting category and I guess music listeners and fans out there did like something about my album. The criticisers have a right to state their views.

We congratulate Ayesha Omar on her achievement and wish best for her future endures,

“I have reached that stage of maturity where playfulness loses appeal for you” – Hamza Ali Abbasi

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi is known for openly expressing his views on every forum. He gets into trouble for doing that often but he believes in freedom of expression for everyone and he always welcomes criticism in return for that because he thinks other people have the right to put across their opinion too. Hamza was invited as a guest on Maria Wasti’s Morning Show which has been recorded in Istanbul. Maria Wasti had a very defensive and somewhat offensive stance during the interview which showed that she did not agree with Hamza Ali Abbasi on many points. It could be because Maria Wasti and Ayesha Omer are best friends. Talking about disagreements Hamza Ali Abbasi said,

“There are disagreements in our country and people are very assertive about their opinions but people are tolerant too. That is because there is diversity in our country.”

1

Talking about how he got where he is today Hamza Ali Abbasi said,

“I believe in being persistent. Many people come to me and say that they really want to act. They think that they can just apply like any other job and get into this career but it is not like that. You have to be very persistent and it can get very turbulent at times.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi also talked about how different he is today compared to how he was a few years back. He said,

“There was a time when I got into relationships without giving it much thought but I have matured now and now I am more careful about who I get close to. The heartbreaks have an impact on your life, you don’t realize it at the time when it happens. It is not all fun and games. “

hamza ali

Hamza Ali Abbasi also said that he used to be very adventurous but he is at that stage of maturity now that all adventures and playfulness has lost appeal for him.

Talking about the film industry he said,

“I will probably distance myself from film industry for a while because we are not doing the things we should be doing and we are focusing on things we should not be focusing on. I am not going to do films for the heck of doing films. I did Hamayun’s film for the heck of it.”

He said that when he made his independent film Hamayun Saeed became a part of it without asking questions so,

“when he asked me to do this film I had no idea what it was about and I only found out about my character when I reached the sets. I ended up doing things I did not agree with which is something I am not going to do again.”

“I have been rejected too, I have also cried” – Shamoon Abbasi

0

Shamoon Abbasi is someone who is unfortunately known more for his failed marriages than anything else. Every time people discuss him it is mostly because of his failed marriages and not because of everything that he has done in his career. Shamoon Abbasi shared in Nadia Khan’s Morning Show today how it made him feel like when people passed comments which were hurtful and other things which suggest that he is a bad person. He said,

“I am not a hypocrite, I believe in having honest relationships. I marry the girls I wanted in my life, I did not have affairs. I can also have relationships outside marriage but I have been very conscious that being a Muslim it is wrong to live with a girl without being married to her. People have one wife and 13 girlfriends and that is okay with people but a person whose marriages have failed people judge them. Even if there is a picture of me with my co-star or friend people pass degrading comments which is upsetting but I don’t let it get to me.”

23

Shamoon said that somehow people always think that it must have been the man’s fault when that is not always the case. He said,

“I have also been rejected by my wives, women left me too. Why do people take it for granted that the man has to be at fault? I have cried and begged my wives not to leave me but they left me any way. I have been hurt and I have been rejected. Thankfully I have fans who love for my work and there is only a selected group of people on social media who are obsessed with marriages and divorces, that is all they want to talk about.”

22

Talking about why all his relationships failed, he said,

“In all my 3 marriages, I realized that women do not like everything to go steady. When everything is going right, they want that there should be some fluctuation. I felt like I needed someone who would be willing to change for me but women want me to change, they want a saint. I do not cheat, I do not gamble but I am not perfect either and I needed someone who would accept me for who I am.”

21

Shamoon Abbasi is currently busy shooting for an action series titled “Yeh Janoon” in which he will be playing the role of a police officer.

Ushna Shah would love to be a part of a Bollywood film if,

“I get a good role, then why not! And whoever says they don’t want to, is lying!”

“I am so lucky to have Sara. I rely on her completely for advice; she tells me about how a team really is and suggests which projects to choose. Of course, when people know I’m related to her, they become cautious and treat me with respect, so that is the best perk.”

“Sometimes people can be a bit insensitive too. They often compare us and even come out with nasty things like one is prettier or more talented than the other.”

5

Noor is also very particular about what she wants to do in dramas and which are the things which she will never do. She revealed,

“I once signed a project and they later told me that there would be a scene where my character will be sexually assaulted. Even though it was to be shot appropriately, I still backed out. That is just not what I want to do.”

5

Noor Khan is very excited about her upcoming project which is directed by the very talented Anjum Shehzad and stars actors like Ahsan Khan and Naveen Waqar.

“I Felt Like Being Punched In The Stomach” – Mahira Says About Raees Premiere

Mahira Khan was recently invited at Aga Khan University’s Special Lecture Series to spoke about a lot of things surrounding her life, dreams and strength to cope up with failure.

Here is how she started off by promoting faith and encouraging people to have it while telling her own tale:

“Faith is a beautiful and important thing. And you know this more when you have lost it. When you are trapped in a dark place in life, faith helps you know that it will be okay,” she continued, sharing her struggles in college when she also held two jobs and had lost her living quarters. “Walking to the bus stand each day, I knew that one day there will be payback. That is having faith. And speaking of success brings us to failure. The truth is that we have all gone through failure. I have personally as well as professionally experienced failure.”

She also told that Bol and Humsafar were very abrupt choices on her part:

“I was advised by many people to not accept the role in Bol as it was a small one but my gut told me otherwise. I also decided to act in the serial Humsafar on my gut feeling.”

Mahira also revealed an extremely shocking detail about both her special projects:

“There are no repeats of your first film but somehow my name was missed as the Bol credits scrolled in front of me. Then for Raees, even though the teaser said ‘introducing Mahira Khan’, I felt like being punched in the stomach when there was no such credit in the film itself. Then when it was released, I was banned in India and the film was banned in Pakistan,” she said.

Nonetheless, she is positive about all she has acquired as of yet and won’t let mishaps bring her down:

“I was dreaming of wearing a sari and dancing like Madhuri Dixit. I also used to dream of working with Shah Rukh Khan. I did nothing to make it happen. I only dreamed and believed in my dreams.”

“I Feel Very lucky To Be In Pakistan As An Actor,” Mahira Khan

0

Mahira Khan is back in Pakistan after shooting her debut film in India. She was invited to “The Reham Khan Show” in which she talked in a very positive light about her work in India and in Pakistan. When the host of the show asked her if it was tough meeting the expectations of the viewers here in Pakistan when she went abroad to work Mahira Khan gave a very good answer. She said that she was under a lot of pressure because she did not want to do anything that would displease her fans in Pakistan. Mahira Khan said that people are surprised that she managed to work in India without putting her reputation on stake.

She also said, “I feel very lucky to be in Pakistan as an actor because this is the only country in my opinion in which you get respect for being fully clothed. You don’t need to do an item number to get respect. You can get respect fully clothed in fact the more you’re covered up the more they respect you. “

1

Mahira Khan said that it is the actor’s choice what kind of a role he or she decides to take up so in a way when people hold them responsible for their actions it is only fair. Mahira also said that it is very challenging for Pakistani actors to give their best to a project because they have no professional training therefore they have to put in all the efforts themselves to bring out the best in their characters which can be very taxing.

“Shooting Bin Roye was very exhausting because it took a lot of time to shoot it. It was emotionally and physically draining and sometimes you start missing yourself when you’re involved in a project so much that is why I always take a break after completing a project,” said the actress.

2

Mahira Khan also shared, “For some reason I don’t cry any more, I have stopped crying maybe because of experience or being mature. I want to cry sometimes, I really want to vent out when I am in pain but for some reason I fail to shed those tears. I don’t know if it is strength but it is there. It could be that I have cried so much in the dramas that I don’t want to cry in real life!”

Mahira Khan also said, “I am particularly not fond of those ronay dhonay wale characters but because Hamsafar is embedded in people’s mind that is why I keep on getting these roles.”

Talking about why she rejected many of the scripts Mahira Khan said, “I have refused many dramas because the characters were similar to the character I played in Hamsafar. That is why I chose to do Shehr-e-Zaat because I wanted to do something different.”

Mahira Khan said that she was very lucky that she got to work with the best people in the industry who taught her the right work ethics.

“I Feel That I Haven’t Done Anything Exceptional In Life.” – Rahat Kazmi

0

Rahat Kazmi is a living legend, he is an asset for our industry and a guiding light for all those newcomers who are lucky enough to have a platform where they can go and learn from this extremely talented gentleman. Sahira Kazmi is also very well known for her contributions to the entertainment industry. She is also multi talented. Everyone knows that Rahat Kazmi and Sahira Kazmi are married but it is hardly ever that they give interviews together. Rahat Kazmi especially does not like giving interviews but this time he made an exception which even his son could not believe.

This talented star couple talked about their marriage, dreams, fears and regrets in a very emotional way in Sanam Baloch’s morning show. Both of them were very open about sharing their thoughts on different matters. When Sanam Baloch asked Rahat Kazmi if he had any weaknesses. He said,

“There is a vacuum in my life which has not been filled because I feel that I failed in doing something exceptional, something that was never done before.”

2

Later in the interview he also said,

“I feel that people have given me more love than I deserve. I haven’t done anything outstanding to earn all the love which people give me. There are many other people in Pakistan who have done far more and they are the ones who deserve all this fame and love.”

1

He also revealed that his time alone with himself and with his books was very important to him. He also shared his thoughts on the class difference among people. He also talked about life and what makes him happy. He said,

“I am not scared of anything in life. My happiness lies in seeing other people happy. Death is a beautiful thing and it should come early. Dreams stay alive forever.”

Sanam Baloch was blown away by the responses she got from Rahat Kazmi and it took her a little while to be back to her normal self again.

“I don’t want to play the damsel in distress all the time” – Hareem Farooq

0

Hareem Farooq recently talked to Dawn News about her career and things that she likes and does not like to do. The actress who started her television career with drama serials like Mere Humdum Mere Dost and Mausam says that she does not like to play the bechari roles at all although she has done such characters but she tried her best to bring out a different side of these characters.

“I don’t want to play the damsel in distress all the time; I want to do something for the victimisation of women. That can be done by not showing rape in every other play or by exploiting saas bahu or mian biwi issues for ratings. It’s time that we should change the perception and make writers pen down roles that are not stereotyped or run-of-the-mill,” said the new sensation of Pakistani dramas.

3

Like many other Pakistani actresses Hareem was forced to play such roles nevertheless. About that Hareem says, “When someone offers me a role that requires me to cry, what can I say?…….Be it the character of the first wife in Doosri Biwi or the sharif behen in Mausam, I tried to do them as non-bechari way as I could. I feel that my ‘crying quota’ is complete. There are a few directors who believe in strong-willed women characters and Owais Khan is one of them. During one of his recent plays, he didn’t ask me to cry in every other scene but wanted me to show the victimisation as a way of struggle.”

Talking about the actresses from across the border Hareem said, “I always wanted to be Madhuri … what an actress, what a woman she is! In recent actresses, some of the scenes Deepika have done are sweet whereas Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut have done some really beautiful films in the past year. I admire off-beat actors like Irfaan Khan, Om Puri, Nana Patekar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpai and Naseeruddin Shah who can eat any actor on screen alive with their powerful dialogue delivery and presence.”

2

Hareem Farooq also said that she is not in showbiz for money and she has big plans for the future. “When you become an actor, it doesn’t mean that you have killed your self-esteem and dignity. I am from an educated family with a good background; I want females to follow my lead and that’s my ultimate goal. I also want to take Pakistani talent to an international audience and that’s why I will be stepping into the world of film production with my business partner Imran Raza Kazmi (who also produced Siyaah) and Reham Khan (Mrs Imran Khan). Keep your fingers crossed!”

“I don’t have a problem with no make-up appearances” – Yasra Rizvi

0

Yasra Rizvi is well known for her powerful performances in many drama serials. What most people don’t know is that Yasra Rizvi is not just an actor but she has written scripts woo. In fact while talking to MAG Yasra revealed that she was more passionate about writing than acting. She said,

“I only write when I’m touched by an issue or a story. My first play was inspired by my younger brother who passed away two years ago. He was a troubled teenager and I was his mentor. I realised that there was a huge generation gap between his age of information and the older generation. Thus, the younger lot is unable to put their point across.”

10

Yasra Rizvi is also planning to step in to film making and she is not afraid to fail. She said,

“What do you do if you don’t take a leap of faith in life? I don’t think little hippity-hop jumps do it for me. I’m familiar with all these disciplines and I’ve basically clubbed everything together. What’s the worst that will happen? I will fail. Well that’s life!”

12

Yasra Rizvi is one of those very few actresses who are not in this profession for glamour. She has no problem playing roles which are not glamorous and she does not mind coming on screen without make. Talking about that she shared,

“I played a moun dhula hua, intense role only after six-months of my entry into TV and the audience and producers ended up liking it. I don’t have a problem with no make-up appearances – a reason why directors prefer me for such roles.”

11

Yasra Rizvi believes that every woman is full of potential and she is very thankful to all those people who made her realize her potential. Yasri Rizvi’s first film as a director is going to be a romantic comedy, it is titled “Senti Aur Mental.”

“I don’t want to be a product of my circumstances” – Mawra Hocane

0

Mawra Hocane has been facing a lot of criticism from public because of her new ‘avatar’ in her upcoming Bollywood film. Mawra’s fans are afraid that she might do what actresses like Humaima Malick and Veena Malik have done. “I don’t take Hamza very seriously, he is like an innocent kid” – Ayesha Khan

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi is famous for saying things that are controversial, he believes in speaking his mind even if it is at the cost of the friendships he has in the industry. Many actors have been offended by Hamza Ali Abbasi’s remarks, Ayesha Omer is one of these actresses and Sohai also said something in an interview which showed that she wasn’t very happy about Hamza’s statements about item numbers. Some people feel that Hamza is forcing his opinion on them although Hamza Ali Abbasi has said it again and again that he has never intended to attack anyone personally.

2

Ayesha Khan is one actress who is Hamza’s closest friend. They have known each other long before they became stars and even now the relationship between these two stars stays strong. Why is that nothing Hamza Ali Abbasi says ever offends Ayesha? We never even see her talking about the controversial statements from Hamza. Answering that question she said,

“I treat Hamza Ali Abbasi like a kid therefore I can forgive him for anything at all. People keep on saying to me that he says so many things, why don’t you say anything because you are so close to him. I tell them it is only Hamza, I don’t take him seriously. It is that simple for me, he is like an innocent kid to me. No one knows him like I do that is why people take everything he says too seriously.”

3

It looks like Ayesha Khan looks at Hamza Ali Abbasi and everything he says in a way like no one else does. It is good to see these co-stars being good friends even after entering the world of showbiz.

“I don’t blame Fawad Khan for what happened at the HUM Awards, Sultana Siddiqui was the one at fault.” – Badar Khalil

Last year the HUM Awards were clouded by controversy when Badar Khalil who was there to receive a life achievement award left her award on her seat and left the show shortly after she received the award. She talked to Dawn News even at that time and said that she was appalled by the treatment meted out to her on the award show. Apparently she was asked to sit in the backseat because Fawad Khan had to sit in her place.

Badar Khalil left for Canada shortly after this incident so no one ever got a chance to ask her what had happened in person. Also, she announced that she was not going to continue with acting because she was done with it after everything that happened at HUM Awards.

Faisal Qureshi invited Badar Khalil to her show. She said that she had forgiven everyone but even then she narrated the incident once again, she said,

“I had just received my award and I was sitting in my seat right next to Sultana Siddiqui in the front. She got a call from Fawad Khan, I could hear he was saying that he won’t come to the show if he did not get the front seat to sit with her. That is when Sultana Siddiqui asked me to go sit in the back seat. My problem with this whole thing was that why didn’t she ask Momina Duraid, her daughter in law who was sitting on the other side to leave her seat for Fawad Khan.”

badar khalil 1

She said that she did not blame Fawad Khan,

“It wasn’t Fawad Khan’s fault, it was Sultana Siddiqui’s fault because as a host she was the one responsible for this decision. When she asked me to go sit in the back I left my award there and left!! These awards mean nothing to me, they are nothing but decorations. What really matters is the respect we get when we are invited to these award functions.”

Badar Khalil said that PTV gave her life achievement award too and they truly gave her the welcome and respect that was fit for someone who was getting such an award. She said,

“I cannot be fake, I cannot sugar coat things. Now the same Sultana Siddiqui who did this to me met me like nothing had happened! I cannot do that. I have given this industry 50 years and I have done it all on the basis of my talent. I have never resorted to buttering to get anything in m career.”

Badar Khalil also said that she was leaving for Canada and had no plans of coming back. She said she wanted to teach acting there if everything worked out.

“I didn’t do Balu Mahi To Portray Myself As An Eye-Candy,” Shares Sadaf Kanwal

The news of Sadaf Kanwal doing a film had surely created quite a stir in the entertainment fraternity. Known for having chiseled and sharp features, she is the definition of what you may call a supermodel. While her performance in Balu Mahi received a lot of praise, many thought her character was controversial as well.

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

She was even referred as an eye candy while Ainy and Osman did all the hard work. But the model is not worried about the criticism, claiming that everyone is entitled to their opinion. “I did not take up this film to portray myself as just another piece of eye-candy,” she told The Express Tribune. “It was the spiciness and wit behind Sharmeen’s character that I gravitated towards. It gave me room to be creative with my acting and expressions. Hence, my role was loved by all in the end.”

Nonetheless, there is always the assumption that models are cast in acting roles primarily because they are easy on the eyes. Sadaf believes that was not the case for her in Balu Mahi. “No, it’s not about the looks, all the time,” she stated. Yes, it would give you a good space on the screen but there would be no longevity in one’s acting career then.”

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

The debutant actor says she has grown up with actors and it’s the art behind the craft that makes her want to pursue acting. “It’s not that ‘Oh, I’m so pretty, I’ll look so good in this character.’ That won’t get me anywhere. And again, opting for Balu Mahi was solely because I wanted to experience that bubbliness of Sharmeen on screen and explore the acting arena,” Sadaf said.

The budding starlet is glad her performance has garnered positive reviews. “The fact the character was a bit out of the box and yet, gathered such an amazing response really surprised and motivated me.”

About her transition from modeling to acting, Sadaf said, “It was difficult at first but not entirely. I have grown up watching movies and idolising actors so I would say it was more exciting than difficult for me.”

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

Nonetheless, Sadaf admitted she was not that comfortable at first. “I swear, if you had asked me this before Balu Mahi, I would have said, ‘Getting there, day by day.’ But, after so much guidance and support from everyone. I feel very comfortable now.

However, Sadaf hasn’t switched sides completely. “I want to remain focused in both acting and modelling. The latter is more like my forte; I love doing it and I’m proud to say I’m good at it. However, I do want to be remembered as an actor in the long run.”

“I am all things thankful, anxious, shy, fearful [and] nervous as I was on my first ever shoot, but this happens to be the most fascinating element about the craft of acting, the process of unlearning the old [and] re-learning like a beginner all over again!”

Mawra Hocane also said in an interview with Dawn News,

“My craft fascinates me and surprises me but the fact that I am coming back to television screens in December after a year is giving me sleepless nights, anxiety and all the more excitement! I can’t wait to share my reinvented self through Sammi, who is absolutely special.”

“I am very spiritual, I leave most things to God” – Mathira

0

Mathira has lately been focusing more on her singing. She joined hands with singers Furqan and Imran to add some part of her very own “talent” in their song. Mathira is seen singing the English lyrics in the song which is in Urdu. Mathira’s singing is not the least bit impressive but Mathira will not allow anyone to make her feel like she does not have a future in music. Mathira has a very strong personality and she is seldom affected by what people say about her.

Fifi Haroon recently took Mathira’s interview for BBC Urdu in which she expressed her opinion about different aspects of her life and how people look at her. Mathira also shared her views as a mother, she said, “it’s the duty of every mother to provide good values to his son.”

In her interview Mathira also said, “I think every woman has a right to look sexy without being blamed”

Talking about her provocative numbers Mathira Said, “Men get happy. Women think I’m a naughty bachi & want to fix me!”

Mathira said that sometimes public makes her a villain and sometimes a hero. Fifi Haroon asked some very controversial questions like about the Pakistan Fashion Week event in which Mathira’s top slipped down. Mathira said that what happened was an accident although people said this was a publicity stunt.

Mathira said that sometimes when people want to be famous sometimes they stupid things to get attention. Mathira said I don’t want to be famous but I want to concentrate on quality work. Mathira said she will never do something foolish to get attention.

Fifi Haroon said after the interview, “I think being too set in ones views is very limiting. Life is at least partly about discovery.”

Here is the video of her latest song:

“I am really happy that the film industry is back on its feet”, shares Shiraz Uppal

0

Shiraz Uppal is a famous playback singer, a pop star and a music composer. Recently, he gave an interview to Dawn Images and we bring you the most interesting bits.

Upon being asked that how did he manage to pull of such successes when it comes to movies like Bol, Bin Roye, 3 Bahadur, Lahore Se Aagey and Dobara phir se, he said:

“It just happens,I am really happy that the film industry is back on its feet and people are recognising the film songs, something we lacked in the past. Indian musicians learned from our pop music while we looked down on it. Our music was much superior to theirs and if we want to revive the music industry, we must make good, listenable songs.”

Uppal doesn’t agree that his song Kalabaz was inspired by the Indian song, Ghagra, as he said:

“It’s a mujra kind of a song, which is the same in India and Pakistan. It belongs to the same genre as ‘Ghagra’ and ‘Kajre Re’ but isn’t the rip-off of any other song. We have made it a fast-track so that it’s both appealing and danceable.”

It warms our heart to see that Uppal survived the bad days of our pop industry as he himself said:

“The end of pop music didn’t end my career. I went to Bollywood and came up with ‘Roya Ray’ which was praised by many. ‘Rabba’ was included in three separate albums, including Best of 2009 (as introducing Shiraz Uppal), Unkahi (his fourth album) and as one of the promotional songs for Aashayen. The song also won me a trophy at the Mirchi Awards too, for which I thank the listeners and those who believed in me.”
