“Khalil ur Rehman Qamar told me I would never be an actor,” Feroze Khan

Feroze Khan has been on a roll ever since his drama serial Khaani became a mega hit. Feroze Khan definitely proved his mettle as an actor with Khaani, portraying the bad boy image so perfectly there were hardly any questions left regarding his acting abilities. Moving on from Khaani, Feroze’s stint in Geo Entertainment’s Dil Kya Karay again won him critical acclaim and appreciation from the audience. His performance as Romeo in Romeo Weds Heer was also loved by the audience for its humor.

"Khalil ur Rehman Qamar told me I would never be an actor," Feroze Khan

Now, according to Something Haute, Feroze Khan, who already has a film near completion, has landed another cinematic outing as well; this time a thriller with Yasir Nawaz. Feroze confirmed signing the film whose production will begin in January next year and a late 2020 release.

Now, another thing, and rather interesting one, that we noticed in his recent interview, were the comments Feroze Khan qouted veteran writer Khalil ur Rehman Qamar giving him back then. Talking about Khalil Sahab’s latest misogynist comments, Feroze Khan stated that Khalil ur Rehman Qamar once told him he’d never be an actor.

"Khalil ur Rehman Qamar told me I would never be an actor," Feroze Khan

“I had heard so much about KRQ’s work that when I first met him I sat on the floor in front of him, out of respect. But he told me that I would never be able to be an actor. When I came out of that room, I vowed that I would prove him wrong and God helped me. Once I lifted that trophy (Lux Style Award for best actor for Khaani), he didn’t matter anymore,” Feroze Khan told Something Haute.

Talking further, Feroze also shared that he had almost signed on the deed for playing Danish’s character in Meray Pass Tum Ho, but backed off when he found out Humayun Saeed himself was keen on doing the role. Considering how well Feroze played the selfless Armaan in Dil Kya Karay, he would have been excellent as Danish as well, not that Humayun Saeed is not doing an amazing job in the role.

Here’s what Feroze’s fans are saying regarding the comment Khalil ur Rehman Qamar seems to have made about Feroze and he not being able to become an actor.

On the work front, Feroze Khan will be seen opposite Hania Aamir in his upcoming drama. His film, Tich Button is near completion with the last spell to be shot in Turkey. Urwa Hocane, the producer, hinted at Tich Button’s release in early 2020 so lets all keep our fingers crossed.

“Khaki Badan” ; The Soulful First Track Of Pari

Pari is an upcoming horror movie of Pakistan, shot in Ayubia, in a house that even the cast and crew found haunted and disturbing. The movie features a multidimensional cast, from veterans like Qavi Khan, Salem Miraj to child star Khushi Maheen. It is going to be first of its kind to introduce a serious horror character into mainstream cinema in Pakistan.

The movie’s first song, Khaki Badan has just been released. It’s a soulful Sufi number that has been sung by Wajeeh Uddin Meer and the music is composed by Masood Alam. The song has all the qualities of a beautiful soundtrack that is fully suited to the theme.

“It’s pure comedy and entertainment” – Guess the new comedy venture !

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi is a rare man among today’s breed of actors. Driven by passion, his latest directorial venture, Kambakht, is Abbasi’s own Joseph Gordon-Levitt Don Jon moment. While he has already established a burgeoning career for himself as a leading man, he is looking to make his mark on cinema from the director’s chair.

“I am better known for my acting, so a lot of people told me ‘focus on that’ or ‘wait before you make a film’, but I felt I had to do it. It’s kind of like getting married, you can wait five years or do it now,” Abbasi tells

Abbasi has paid no heed to these suggestions and is currently in the process of directing what is being hyped as a vitriol comedy that should be released by mid-2014.There are many positive things about Abbasi, but one thing is certain, he is always talking about bringing people together and supporting each other for the betterment of the industry. The actor-director has kept his indie-film roots intact with this endeavour by casting and running the production through people he feels comfortable with.

“The passion aspect has overshadowed professionalism. We’re all people who are doing this for the first time, so I think that’s what made the project so interesting,” says Abbasi.

His production team is a cultivation of minds he has brought together or scouted over the years. More importantly, they are people he trusts. For instance, the script is a collaborative effort between Abbasi and two theatre veterans, Atif Siddiqui and Jawad Rana. His production team includes two relatively new figures — Shayan Latif, who was his DOP in Mudhouse and newcomer Sharmeen Khan.

“My first priority was to work with people I already knew and thought I had a comfort level with, so we would stay together at work, so that helped me,” says Abbasi. The hype surrounding the film has been apparent since its inception due to the originality of the piece, and the star ensemble assembled by Abbasi. Ahsan Khan was initially going to star in the lead role, which is now being played by Abbasi himself.

Kambakht has quite the all-star cast, including Abbasi, Shafqat Cheema, Humayun Saeed, Shehryar Munawar, Sohai Ali Aabru, Fizza Zehra and Gohar Rasheed, amongst others. A comedy with an original storyline, Kambakht is about two people, one middle-aged man from the backward areas of the frontier, played by Shafqat Cheema, and a young urban city-slicker played by Abbasi himself, who strike an unlikely and accidental friendship.

“I think it’s going to feel like a combination of both “Hera Pheri” and “The Hangover” mixed together. It’s pure comedy and entertainment, in which I think the film’s strength is going to be the story and the characters,” says Abbasi.

Gohar Rasheed, who helped with production and is playing the role of a policeman, is quite excited about Kambakht, due to the hilarity surrounding its characters. He says that the out-of-the-box and non-conventional approach has provided something really different.

“It’s really a roller-coaster ride; it has one turn after another, one twist after another, and one event after another. Personally I am against comparisons, because I feel it’s just that original. This film will leave its own mark,” says Rasheed.

Comedy aside, he says there is a broader change coming, in light of the fact that type-casted actors such as Shafqat Cheema, who has only been known for his roles as a villain, will be seen in a completely different light. Another person to look out for will be Humayun Saeed, also known for dark-harrowing characters, playing against his type.

“It Was A Mistake” Says Sarah Khan About One Of Her Projects

Sarah Khan has surfaced as one of the most prominent faces of the media industry over the past few years. At the beginning of her career, like many actresses, Sarah also made a few mistakes while selecting the script, one of which was Meray Bewafa in which Sarah was starred against Agha Ali and Zhalay Sarhadi. It was a typical formula drama in which Azra’s (Sarah) husband Shahmeer (Agha Ali) gets married to his wife’s best friend Mona (Zhahaly) and destroyed her life completely, followed by Azra’s miscarriage, but eventually, Azra forgives her husband and lives happily ever after.

"It Was A Mistake" Says Sarah Khan About One Of Her Projects

Now, when we are seeing Sarah doing progressive roles like Miral in Sabaat and Zohra in Raqs’e’Bismil, it hits hard in minds that how come Sarah, agreed to work on a script like Meray Bewafa. In a recent interview, Sarah gave the answer:

“Honestly, that drama, I will say, was my mistake. Because I don’t want to perform what I don’t believe. I tried hard to change the ending of that drama. Why that girl went back to that boy. After her life got destroyed that much and I haven’t played any such character after that. Because I don’t want to show anything to people that I don’t believe, which is wrong too. Why we are putting it in people’s mind that women are weak and they must go back to their husbands” said Sarah

“It was a dream come true to work with actors I have grown up admiring,” says Shermeen Ali

0

The newbie Shermeen Ali is currently seen in some very popular dramas Sanam, Dil Banjara and Sange Mar Mar. She has been going some promising characters lately and there are all praises for her. She was also seen in film Jeevan Hathi along with Naseerudin Shah and Hina Dilpazer.

In a conversation with HIP, Shermeen gave an insight into her personal and professional life, when asked if being an actor was what She always wanted to do.

“Honestly, It wasn’t planned , in fact, I never even thought that I had the potential to become an actor. Throughout my life so far, I have always been a shy person with a really small social circle. Although my two elder sisters have been associated with the media industry, I never saw myself as a part of it. Even my mother thought this profession wasn’t for me,” revealed Shermeen.

A photo posted by Shermeen (@shermeen.ali) on

She further added, ” When Umar Sayeed’s brother Mohsin Sayeed suggested that I audition for this Indo-Pak venture Jeewan Haathi I didn’t think I could do that. They needed a tall girl and they thought I was best suited for the role. There weren’t many lines, but that is where it all really started. Being a part of a venture along stars like Naseeruddin Shah and Hina Dilpazeer has been an amazing experience that not many get at their launch.”

Shermeen is the face we keep seeing on our television screens every now and then in Sang e Mar Mar , Sanam and Dil Banjara. So we asked the talented diva which one’s the closest to her heart.

Not really wanting a pick a favourite she replied, ” They’re all close to my heart and each one makes me feel every lucky. But if I HAD to pick one, it would be Sang e Mar Mar, it was a dream come true to work with actors I have grow up admiring, the location was perfect and it felt like one big family”

We asked her about her upcoming ventures and if she would be doing more movies in the future.

“There’s a lot in the pipeline, and as for movies, I will but I have certain reservations. Movies are a lot more complicated than dramas and a lot of things have to be taken into consideration. I will only do a movie when I truly feel comfortable with the script. ITEM NUMBERS are a straight no for me, in fact, I don’t think that our movies even need them. They are not a part of our culture,” she stated.

Sharmeen added that she would love to do movies like Dobara Phir Se where she can display her acting potential without compromising on her culture and values. She would love to do movies that one can go watch with the entire family.

“Believe in yourself and know that persistence in the key. Nothing is unachievable and everything is possible. Keep dreaming because that is only how you know that you are truly alive,” said Shermeen as she signed off.

“It Is Difficult To Divorce Ourselves From Bollywood,” Says OKB! Do You Agree?

Movies all over the world are an integral part of the entertainment industry. And when a movie does well at the box office, stars are feted and directors and producers lauded. However, in reality it is the writers who write the screenplays that hold films together and the memorable dialogues that people remember who seem to be given the shortest shrift in talking about films.

Icon spoke to four rising young writers — Vasay Chaudhry (Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani), Yasir Hussain (Karachi Se Lahore, Lahore Se Aagey), Osman Khalid Butt (Siyaah, Janaan) and Bilal Sami (Dobara Phir Se) — to get their takes on why Pakistan continues to have a problem with scripts. And we bring you the conversation they had with the handsome guy in the town, Osman Khalid Butt.

Most of the films in Pakistan seem to have a story angle borrowed from Bollywood. Why can’t we have original concepts?

Osman Khalid Butt: Ever since our cinema’s much talked-about revival, we’ve seen quite a bit of diversity — much more than you’d expect from an industry still in its teething phase. We are in the process of discovering our cinema identity, so right now it is difficult to divorce ourselves from Bollywood as entire generations have grown up watching and admiring that brand of filmmaking.

Most people think the weakest link of Pakistani films is their scripts. Do you think not enough importance is being given to the writers — whether financially, in terms of time or in terms of voice?

OKB: I definitely feel writers should be given more importance, their work respected more. A screenplay is not a buffet where you can pick and choose what scenes you want to shoot and what you want to axe. A writer should always be consulted on script-related matters. A good director-writer relationship is also extremely important and the two need to be completely in sync. Which, from what I hear, is not the case most of the time.

You have come to script writing via other fields e.g. acting. Is it important to gain recognition in some other way before you’ll get a shot at writing a film? And what in your opinion is the one thing holding back new writers from entering the field? What is the biggest issue?

OKB: I have always acted and written simultaneously, even during my theatre days. I personally feel you’re judged on the merit of your work, not your name or your brand, at least till you’ve proven yourself. I also feel this is the perfect time for writers to be pitching their one-liners and concepts — make sure you trademark them or trust your sources — to production companies. Everyone’s on the hunt for a good script. Just be open to have your work dissected, pulled apart and altered.

What do you personally find the most difficult part of writing a screenplay? Is it the structure, the character development, the dialogue or something else?

OKB: For me, it’s because I think and sometimes write dialogues in English so a few times I’ve been in that ‘lost in translation’ scenario. Also, I tend to be very possessive about my work. I remember having so many arguments with Azfar [the director of Siyaah and Janaan] because one deleted line felt like murder. It’s been a long process, learning the art of letting go for the betterment of the film.

People still remember dialogues from many old films but not the new ones. Why?

OKB: I have seen people quoting from Shoaib Mansoor’s repertoire, lines from Manto, heard people pass on jokes and one-liners from JPNA and Actor In Law, and even from Janaan. You can’t expect iconic dialogue unless it’s a period piece or a high-voltage one such as Mughal-i-Azam and Sholay.

Why do most of our scripts come across as TV plays? Is it because all the writers are from TV?

OKB: This question can be answered by the directors. Unless the genre is a drawing-room melodrama. Even then, I don’t think any screenwriter devises scenes with the explicit instruction: ‘Stick to extreme close-ups and mid-shots only. Long shots/moving camera equals blasphemy. If your camera zooms out I’m calling the Council of Drama Serial Ideology.’

Why can’t we make big-budget films on a huge canvas? Why must it always be a romance with the zalim samaj as the villain?

OKB: Where are these fabled ‘big budgets’ is the real question. Where are these mythical investors? An audience poll must be conducted to know what they want to watch on the big screen — either way, it’ll act as a wake-up call.

One sees a lot of people complaining about blatant advertising in Pakistani films. How important is branding for a film in general and for a script in particular?

OKB: I have never been conscious of branding while writing. There are moments where an opportunity presents itself so I just add ‘XYZ brand sponsorship opportunity here’ in my notes — but only if it’s done in a tongue-in-cheek manner. I wish filmmakers would include writers in the brand incorporation process. We could come up with much cleverer ways to integrate a brand instead of it looking like a blatant advert.

Any advice for newcomers who want to try their hand at writing?

OKB: Read. Purchase or download scripts of epic films — or any film that subscribes to your personal brand — and observe/dissect those screenplays. Research. Did I mention ‘read’?

“It Hurts Me To See Our Talent Being Used As Second Hand B-Grade Options In Bollywood” – Shaan Shahid

0

Everyone knows the stance Shaan Shahid has when it comes to working in Bollywood, he declined a very important role in Amir Khan’s film Gajini. While giving an interview to Dawn News, Shaan Shahid said, “When I said no to a project I was offered, it was not that I as an actor felt that I would not be able to pull of a negative character – but I questioned why they wanted a Pakistani actor to play the villain. They have plenty of actors to perform such a role.”

He also said, “You have to understand that they [Bollywood] buy our Pakistani labels, not our talent; this is the reason one of ours can never be a Krish or Singham or whatever, unless they think beyond this. Things will not work out as India is a film giant, and in order for it to grow bigger it needs to have a bigger heart.”

Shaan Shahid is not happy with how India is casting Pakistani actors, “it hurts me to see our talent being used as second hand B-grade options. They are far better then any of the Imran Hashmis and Hameesh Rashmiyas. I would love to see any of our actors in a leading role like Dhoom 4, that would be a success story to write home about”, Said Shaan while talking to Dawn News.

Shaan is also not happy with the policy of the government regarding the airing of Indian movies in Pakistan, according to him,

“India doesn’t support Pakistani products, as Waar and 021 are not being released in India, but we seem to have no issue with that, as local media has ignored this completely. When foreign content was playing on the Pakistani TV channels everybody in the drama industry stood up with one voice and that changed the policy, so why can’t we do that for films?

Its really sad how we are all separated – we protect our dramas but not our films.”

While talking about his upcoming film Operation o21 he said that he was very hopeful that it will do really well. Here is the official trailer of the film which is to be released on Eid-ul-Azha:

“Islam Is Being Used For Some People’s Personal Gains And Interests” – Veena Malik

0

After the passing of the sentence against Veena Malik and her husband along with the owner of Geo TV and the anchor of the Morning Show Shaista Wahidi the international media is taking keen interest in the issue. Almost all the leading international papers and channels have covered the issue of blasphemy. Veena Malik was asked her stance on the sentence, she clearly stated that her husband and she was innocent. Veena Malik also said that the content of the show wasn’t even blasphemous because the manqabat that was being played in the background is played very often in wedding functions, so much so that people are seen dancing and kissing while it plays in the background.

Veena Malik said that there were some elements in the establishment which wanted to punish Geo for some things that happened in the past. According to her Islam has nothing to do with the sentence but this was a case of punishing the channel for something else. Veena Malik said that she had to leave Pakistan because she was pregnant and in the present scenario her baby was not safe in Pakistan. Veena Malik wants the people of Pakistan to stand up against this injustice so that people refrain from misusing religion for personal gains.

Interestingly, Veena Malik is the only person involved in the case who has been making public appearances. Other than her all the people involved are silent on the issue.

“In today’s age, we need ‘smart artists’ “, says Sajjad Ali

0

The Lahore Music Meet last week saw many musicians and two of them were Sajjad Ali and Azmat Ali who talked about their early struggles and more.

Sajjad Ali mentioned that the ’90s was the era where the artist was faced with the remnants of the old generation’s problems. And for Ali Azmat, his life as an artist had been nothing but struggle — trying to survive, living on his own in an alien city, and eventually reaping some reward.

“For me the music scene happened from 1994 onwards,” he said.

Ali spoke on the new generation and its waywardness when it came to music and its inability to treat it with the seriousness it deserved. He pointed out that music has never been treated as a matter of priority in Pakistan.

It was a long time ago when Sajjad Ali himself directed the music video ‘Babiya’. He said artists were hands-on then too, dabbling in song composition and recording but something was always missing.

He expressed:

“Today, when technology has reached every home and when almost everyone knows how to record, play and sing confidently, why is there still no hit song coming up?”

Ali was of the view that the industry would not grow until it had music written originally for it.

“No industry grows by recycling. The whole process ofcreating, recording and marketing music is a science and no one is giving it to the kids. In today’s age we need ‘smart artists’, who can do all these things.”

Azmat talked about the growing commercial mindset in the music industry and how the creativity is being affected:

“If artists do not recreate and create and explore new styles of music, they will drop like flies,” he said. “You cannot keep doing the same kind of music, you have to move on. You have to stop following trends.”

He said, “I was never in the useless rat race to be number one. Artists are insecure people and perhaps it is that insecurity that keeps me afloat. There were times when I went on the high horse but I have learnt to calm myself down, to become more grounded. After all that ‘high’ doesn’t always remain.”

“Imran Khan is a very different person in real life” – Reham Khan

0

Reham Khan who got married to the iconic sportsman and a trendsetter politician Imran Khan yesterday gave her first interview via telephone to Dawn News. While talking about what attracted her to Imran Khan she said something which many people would not have expected her to say.

“What I really liked about Imran when he proposed to me was the love he has for his sons….What impresses me the most about people, what I regard as a success is a good parent,” said Reham Khan

Reham Khan also said that being a parent herself she knew that being a responsible parent was a tough job.

“I was looking for a man who would be a good role model for my children….
Pakistani men should emulate Imran’s example,” Reham Khan said in her interview. Reham Khan also said that generally Pakistani men love their daughters a lot but do not give the same amount of love to their sons.

Reham Khan also said that she was not expecting to meet the right person at this time but instead she found one who was most right! Reham Khan says that she is not interested in taking a direct part in the politics of the country.

“The type of politics in the current environment do not appeal to me…That’s not my calling in life……I am interested in politics as a journalist, observer and historian,” she said.

Reham Khan started her interview by thanking all those people of Pakistan who rejoiced this moment with her and Imran Khan and the second most important things she stressed on was that money and fame did not mean much to her. Reham Khan said that her impression of Imran Khan was totally different before she met him. She said that Imran Khan is a very simple and loving person.

“If I Wanted I Could Have Stopped Azfar From Getting Married To Naveen” – Salma

0

Salma and Azfar’s divorce and Azfar’s marriage with Naveen was one of the most controversial happening of the past year. The fans refused to accept this marriage and saw Salma as the victim in this whole affair. Azfar and Naveen also confessed in their interview that the public backlash was so severe that it took them a year to come out in the public openly.

This was the first time that Salma talked about her divorce with Azfar and his marriage to Naveen when she was invited as a guest in Nida Yasir’s Morning Show. Salma said that she started feeling that Azfar had changed long before he told her that he was going to get married to Naveen. Salma said that she never knew when the marriage was taking place and only found out about it from other people.

Salma said, “Azfar gave me the option of staying married to him even after he got married to Naveen but forgiving him appeared to be much easier if I had no relationship with him. I wouldn’t have been able to forgive him or move on had I stayed married to him therefore I decided to leave him. I could not share Azfar with another woman, I do not have such a big heart.”

1

She also said, “Right till the last minute Azfar wasn’t sure about his decision to marry Naveen, he was confused. If I wanted I could’ve stopped him from going ahead with this marriage but I didn’t.” Salma said that when a person decides to get married to someone it means that he has already moved on so there is no point on holding on to him or in making him stay.

Salma also revealed that she had to go into therapy after her relationship with Azfar ended because she could not cope with what had happened. The therapy sessions consoled her and she realized that their marriage was already over long before Naveen came in the picture. She said, “Sometimes when people make decisions they don’t consider how badly they are hurting other people because they are only thinking about their own self.”

2

Salma said that women who live with a husband who has a second wife are victims of abuse in a way and they don’t have the courage to get out of the situation. Salma said, “The distance between us started when our daughter Fatima was born because Azfar was always the child in the marriage and now that there was another child he couldn’t cope with it. My entire focus was on my daughter and that is when my relationship with my husband suffered.”

4

“For a year I suffered a lot but now I want him to be happy. Some people have this kind of a nature I accept him the way he is. I am still friends with him but I will never see his wife and I will never go to his house,” said Salma.

Salma said, “It is not easy being a single mother. I have to give breaks during work because I have to be there for my daughter because of which I lose a lot of projects too. I have to plan my schedule around her. I have always insisted that Fatima should be close to her father because if she is not close to him it will have a negative effect on her.”

“If Everyone Goes To India, Who Will Work In Pakistan!” – Faisal Qureshi

0

Faisal Qureshi has always been known for his patriotic nature and the respect he gives to his seniors. He was invited as a guest on Ali’s Saleem’s show on Dawn News. Faisal Qureshi just like always was very blunt while expressing his point of view. Ali Saleem asked him why he had not accepted an offer from Bollywood. To this he replied,

“Surely I did think about working there but all the work that I have done in my own country, I have done it with respect and dignity. I wanted to work there with the same respect and dignity but that kind of opportunity never came along. Thanks to Allah, the film industry in Pakistan is growing now. I think if all of us will go to India, there will be no one left here.”

10

Faisal Qureshi also said that Pakistani people loved controversial material. He said,

“Once my Morning Show on TV One was not getting ratings. In the beginning of one  of the shows I said jokingly that today’s show was PG 18 so those who didn’t want to watch such a show should avoid it. Would you believe it that this particular show got more rating than any other that day!!”

Faisal Qureshi also talked about his personal likes and dislikes. He said that Mahira Khan was the best actress around right now. He also said,

“The biggest regret in my life is that my father could not see me succeed.”

Faisal Qureshi also shared that Shaista Wahidi was his favorite Morning Show host. He also appreciated Aamir Liaquat.

“If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

While Indian government has banned Pakistani artists from working in the Indian film industry, composer Vipin Patwa, who has worked with the Pakistani singers such as Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, says music has become global and talent is beyond nationality.

When asked what makes him look for talent in Pakistan instead of India, Patwa replied,

“We are living in 2018 and music has become global. Moreover, talent is beyond nationality. And let’s not forget that be it music, story or casting of a film, all decisions are taken collectively by a number of people and not a single person.

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

When asked whether it was a good decision to get Aslam and Bashir on board, especially after the producer of the film Daas Dev said that Aslam had refused to promote the song Sehmi Hai Dhadkan?

The composer stated,

“Aslam was taken on board because his voice matched the character of the song. The decision was taken way before the controversy started. It’s a coincidence that this controversy has started at the time of my music launch. Which artist wouldn’t want to promote his work? If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.”

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

When questioned if there were any talks to remove their songs from the film, Patwa explained,

“Removing an artist’s song merely on the basis of some controversy is the worst and most disrespectful thing. It takes a lot of effort and pain to create a song. I had specially flown to Dubai just to record the song.”

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

Patwa feels that he has always worked as a bridge between the two nations.

He shared,

“If my small efforts can bring two nations together, I would love to be a part of such projects. Moreover, I grew up listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saab and Mehdi Hasan saab. Can you ask people to stop listening to their songs? You can’t because music is beyond boundaries,”

Have something to add to the story?

“I’m very, very disappointed in Yasir’s tasteless comment,” Says Ahsan Khan

Yasir Hussain’s unpleasant comment created an uproar in the entertainment fraternity. His joke about child molestation at the mega, star-studded event HUM TV Awards ceremony was totally uncalled for. Ahsan Khan won the award for his performance in Udaari and when he went up to the stage to receive his accolade, Yasir Hussain said, “Itna khoobsurat rapist, kaash mein bhi bacha hota (What a handsome rapist; I wish I was a child as well).”

Moreover, the attendees at the event also giggled at the joke. However, Yasir Hussain released a video recently to apologise, but the damage has been done already.

Ahsan Khan has finally shared his thoughts on Yasir Hussain’s disappointing comment.

Something Haute got in touch with Ahsan Khan and he said, “I’m very, very disappointed in Yasir’s tasteless comment. I really do not want to associate myself with this cheap joke in any way. But what are you going to say to all those people who actually laughed at this joke? There’s a problem with our mentality and that’s what we need to work on.”

“He’s given an apology and I think we should give him a chance. Sometimes people say things in the spur of the moment and there’s a lot of pressure on stars when they’re standing on such a huge stage and speaking to so many people. I do want to say that he doesn’t need to apologize to me though; he needs to apologize to the society because I’m speaking on their behalf.”

“One statement doesn’t change anything. We’ve brought the issue of child abuse to the limelight and I personally will work on bringing such social issues forward,”
he added.

“I’m very particular about the actress I’m paired with and I share great chemistry and comfort with Ayeza. So overall, I knew it was a safe gamble. It’s something that has been tried and tested previously, so there weren’t any risks,” he added.

He further said, “It’s different in a lot of ways. There’s also a transformation for the story and my character. There are several intriguing twists and turns in the plot that you’ll discover.”

Believing that media plays a strong role in the promotion of the arts, he shared, “I think it has become very important. Previously, we used to completely rely on word-of-mouth. But now marketing strategies play an essential role in the success or failure of any project at all – I feel that promotions are no longer only limited to films, they’ve become equally relevant for television as well.”

The actor who rose to stardom with the serial Khuda Aur Mohabbat six years ago reshot the entire serial and also featured in its second installment opposite Kubra Khan.

“There were major changes in the development and detailing of the characters,” recalled Abbas. “It was originally aired in 2011 so obviously the newer version was a lot more contemporary. It was better in terms of production. Also, the second season picks up from where the last one ended and all of us have changed physically over the years as well so to make it all look relevant, we had to reshoot the first season. Nonetheless, I’m grateful to all the viewers for giving it so much love this time around as well. I feel blessed.”

Abbas also disclosed that his motive now is to earn more. “Thankfully I get paid exactly what I quote but of course financial stability is extremely important.

At the end of the day, all of us are working for survival and strive to make a living out of it. Gone are the days when we had to prove our mettle. I know I am working for money because above anything, it is my job.”

When asked, if he’s planning to do a film in Pakistan, “I have been experimenting across the border. I wasn’t satisfied with Creature 3D. I liked the film but I expected a lot more from the audience. With Janisaar, we knew our niche market and we weren’t trying to cater to the masses at all,” said Abbas. “At this point of time, I don’t want to take any risks in my career. I’ve become very choosy about what I select and I actually thank God that I had to let go of a few Pakistani films because they turned out to be beyond disappointing.”

He is still looking to resume projects across the border that were delayed in the aftermath of the Uri attacks. “There will always be people who will stigmatize the entire society. It’s not restricted to India. We have them here in Pakistan too. But I do believe that any reciprocation and mutual respect is important. If we have started playing Indian films in our theatres, they need to start airing our television serials on Zee Zindagi as well.”

“We need to get rid of this negativity. As far as my personal experience of collaborating with Indian artists is concerned, I’ve never been through any discomfort whatsoever and have only been showered with love and respect. Also, we cannot deny the fact that Bollywood is a huge industry and the international exposure it offers is not available locally. It will take time for us to build infrastructure but I see great enthusiasm in the younger lot and am very hopeful,” he continued.

“I’m scared of my own country.” – Humaima Malick

1

Humaima Malick’s first Indian movie “Raja Natwarlal” will be released on 29th August but the first song of the film “Tere Ho Ke Rahenge” has already released. The song shows a very bold Humaima Malick and scenes that will not be welcomed by the Pakistani viewers. When asked by reporters if Humaima Malick was ready for the criticism that she may face since everyone already knows that two Pakistani actresses, Meera and Veena, tried extra hard recently to make a mark in Bollywood but failed. To this Humaima replied,

“I’m confident about getting accepted by the Indian audience. But I’m scared of my own country.”

In a recent interview with Dawn Humaima said she is not worried about fan reaction to her onscreen kiss with Emran Hashmi, but she does not want to talk about the topic

“I wouldn’t ever do an item song” Naimal Khawar the Verna Actress

Naimal Khawar just aced what can only be described as a dream debut, what better way to start your acting career than to work with the filmography maestro Shoaib Mansoor himself. Born to a Persia mother and a Pakhtun father Naimal grew up in Islamabad and was studying visual arts when the opportunity knocked at her door and it is interesting to note that she didn’t want to be an actress in the first place.

Shahbaz Shigri the assistant director discovered this gem from her instagram profile and invited her over for the auditions, after getting the role Naimal’s family was still a bit paranoid but after explaining the fact that Verna isn’t the usual commercial film and focuses on something more than just box-office figures they approved of it.

When asked of her experience with huge names like Mahira and Shoaib himself she said that she has learned a lot, Mahira being the star that she is doesn’t have any airs and is very comfortable to work with, she went on to say that the breaks during the shoots were her favorite part when they all laughed and had a good time where Haroon would sing for them and Mahira sometimes joined him.

She stated that she is getting a lot of offers these days but for now she doesn’t know if she is ready for it so she’d rather they wait.

“I do get other offers. I got some recently and called Shoaib Sahab asking what I should do. He said this is just beginning but don’t let it get to your head. And I won’t because I still have my studies to complete.”

She went on to add:

“There are dramas that are coming my way and some films as well. I want to see myself on the screen and I want to see how I do in films before I make a decision about my future. I want to finish my thesis as well before I take on any other projects.”

“I will not have a semi-clothed woman dancing in my film to entertain people.” – Hamza Ali Abbasi

Hamza Ali Abbasi takes pride in the fact that he does not want to stick to hero roles only although he is the perfect candidate for the job. He mesmerized the viewers with his impeccable performance in Waar and Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi. The drama lovers were impressed by his work in Pyare Afzal but Hamza Ali Abbasi says, “People expect you to be a hero, you’re young , you look a certain way and people perceive you a certain way, and you end up being typecast. I don’t want that. Being a hero doesn’t involve a lot of acting. I love a challenging role because I’m not a hero — I’m an actor. In Kambakht, I deliberately play an ugly, crude character.”

While talking about his upcoming film Kambakht with Dawn News Hamza Ali Abbasi said that direction was his first love. While talking about his experience as a director he said, “I could have done much better as a director……It’s a full-time job behind the camera, and it’s a full-time job being in front of it. In the future I will not act in any film that I direct.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi added, “The film is an indie comedy….“I deliberately chose to make a comedy because I wanted to make people laugh. It doesn’t try to be anything else. I wanted to see if we could even make a film that was two hours’ long. If people are laughing for a third of that time in the cinema, for me, that’s good enough.”

Talking about upcoming films and those that have already been shows, Hamza said, “Jalaibee is another film I’m looking forward to, because I know it’ll entertain me………Tamanna was technically sound, but as a cinemagoer, it didn’t draw me. Seedlings is an excellent film, but it didn’t bring people to the cinema. We need comedies. The primary motive to make films has to be entertainment — there can’t be a divide between that and creating awareness.”

Hamza said, “I’m being pressured right now to put an item number in the film. When it comes to giving something to the people, I don’t think we should make nudity and vulgarity a part of entertainment. We shouldn’t want people to appreciate it. I will not have a semi-clothed woman dancing in my film to entertain people. I think that is the lowest form of entertainment.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi does not believe in the Bollywood formula to make hit films at all. He said in the interview, “If the Bollywood formula was going to make a film successful, MHSA would have been a bigger hit than Waar.”

Talking about his future ventures, Hamza Ali Abbasi said, “The next film that I’m planning is in collaboration with the ISPR….“It has a strong female in the leading role, someone who is pretty awesome as a character. The ISPR has just come onboard regarding this; we need their military support and logistics to pull this one off.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi also hopes to make a film on Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. We wish him all the best!

“I will never work in Bollywood, I am not very fond of it.” – Ayesha Khan

0

Ayesha Khan was Nadia Khan’s first guest in her comeback Morning Show. Nadia Khan and Ayesha talked about everything from how people exploit social media to Ayesha Khan’s future plans. Talking about Pakistani stars who have worked in Bollywood till now Ayesha Khan said that she felt that these stars were not given the kind of role and attention they deserved based on their talent. She also said,

“I have set certain boundaries for myself that will never allow me to work in Bollywood. The films that I did here in Pakistan were within those limits which I have set for myself but Bollywood is different. I am not criticizing the actors who have worked there, everyone has their own standards.”

Ayesha Khan also said that she went to India once to shoot an advertisement but she never met anyone there. She also said that actors who act in Bollywood,

“will always be outsiders, they will never have the kind of support system we have here in Pakistan.”

The talented actress who has impressed the audience with her performances again and again said that she would always want to be known as a drama actor. She said,

“My favorite medium has always been television. It is really sad that the quality of scripts of dramas has really gone down. The reason for that is that the writers are not writing the scripts themselves. Their names are on the script but their assistants or helpers write the script.”

Talking about how tough it has become for directors too to choose projects they would enjoy directing she said,

“The channels/producers only want 24 episodes, it doesn’t matter whether the story loses focus or it gets repetitive. Unnecessary marriages are shown and this new trend of having two wives has gone too far. There was a time when it was okay to choose your projects based on who was directing them because there were certain directors who were reliable. But now it isn’t the director’s fault either because how can he choose a good script when they aren’t any around any more!”

Ayesha Khan is still seen in drama even though she obviously does not like the kind of dramas that are being made nowadays. She says the reason is,

“I am very passionate about acting that is why I can’t do without working in dramas. But it is sad when you have to do the same thing over and over again because you don’t have a choice.”

Just like the viewers Ayesha Khan is also tired of the same old stories and wants to see a change.
