Renowned singer and musician Shehzad Roy has sent a legal notice to Coca-Cola company and Soho Square advertisement company for infringement of intellectual property rights as Coca-Cola used his song ‘Laga Rahe’ in its advertisement campaign.

The singer claims that the company not only used his song without permission but also modified it and distorted its social message. The singer shared it on his Twitter handle.

“I was advised by my friends and colleagues not to get into a legal battle with a giant corporation like Coca-Cola. They felt that powerful individuals and organisations in Pakistan get away with illegally occupying people’s material property, so what hope would I have with claiming my intellectual property rights. But such arguments have only motivated me further to take up this case and fight for my rights, so no other artist in Pakistan has to face such blatant intellectual property rights infringement again. Soho Square has been engaged by Coca-Cola Export Corporation as its agent for the purpose of advertising, marketing and promotion of Coca-Cola Company’s brand ‘Sprite’. Soho Square approached my team to enter into an agreement in order to use my song ‘Laga Rahe’,” Shehzad told Daily Times.

“Soho Square and my team had exchanged drafts of this agreement but the final contract with Soho Square had not been concluded and signed, owing to the fact that I had to further review and revise a few clauses of the agreement.”

“Despite this, Soho Square and Coca-Cola Company went ahead and developed the advertisement of the brand ‘Sprite’ with my licenced song even though I was still reviewing the agreement.”

Shehzad Roy is a popular Pakistani pop singer. He is also a songwriter, guitarist, activist, social worker and humanitarian. He started his singing career in 1995 and has recorded six hit albums since then. He is now doing his debut on silver screen with his upcoming film Alif Noon.

Pakistani singer Shehzad Roy has recently been appointed the National Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

A few months ago UNODC has announced in a tweet,

As the Goodwill Ambassador Shehzad Roy represented Pakistan at the UN convention in Austria yesterday 12th March and took to his Instagram to express how proud he was to be representing Pakistan, he wrote,

“I am humbled and proud to represent Pakistan as Goodwill Ambassador for UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime at the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, Austria.”

Singer and activist Shehzad Roy released a new song on Monday night and its music video features cameos by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. These are not the real Modi and Abhinandan but it’s close enough. The song, ‘Kon Kis Ka Aadmi Hai’, is about who’s in whose pocket and who’s backstabbing whom.

It features a few lines about the Indian premier and his conspiracies. Roy also pokes fun at India by reminding them of how Pakistan downed its plane and served pilot Abhinandan tea and biscuits. Abhinandan was the pilot of an Indian plane shot down by the Pakistan Air Force in February 2019. He was later released after being served tea and serving us with the meme-able line ‘The tea was fantastic’.

‘Kon Kis Ka Aadmi Hai’ also accuses Modi of spreading hate. The song was written by Nadeem Asad. The music video also features Roy’s son Sikandar Alam Roy on the drums. At the end of the video he walks away and his father asks “Who’s going to pick up this drum, your father?” Eventually, his father has to pick it up.

Shahzad Roy is one of the most promising singers of Pakistan. He has recorded six albums since 1995. His famous songs include; Saali, Teri Soorat, and Qismat Apne Hath Mein.

He is a social worker and humanitarian as well. He owns a trust named ‘Zindagi Trust’ that strives to improve the quality of education available to the average Pakistani. He has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Sitaar-i-Imtiaz, and Sitara-i-Eisaar. Shahzad was also selected to be a torchbearer for the 2008 Olympic Games.

The forever young Shehzad Roy performed “Come Together” by the Beatles band along with Macy Gray, Slash and Matt Sorum from American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses.

The performance is from an event titled “The arts and social change in Pakistan” which happened in 2013. It was focused on students to make them aware of the changes achieved through arts and music across Pakistan.

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame musician and humanitarian Matt Sorum partnered with rock star Shehzad Roy to raise the quality of public education and to increase funding for the arts in underprivileged schools — at an international level. It featured live auction with items donated by the celebrities, the red-carpet gala boasted performances by Matt Sorum, and Shehzad Roy, Macy Gray, Slash (GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER) and many more guests.

The Late Legend Junaid Jamshed lost his life in a plane crash on December 7th. All on-board PK-661 lost their lives as the planed crashed near Havelian. Whole nation including the celebrities mourned the tragedy. It has been many days but the pain in the hearts is still very much alive.

Pakistani singer Shehzad Roy released the song to pay an emotional tribute to the victims of the PIA plane crash. He wrote on his Facebook page, “my tribute to all the passengers on flight PK 661, reliving fondest memories of my dear friend and brother Junaid Jamshed.”

Singer Shehzad Roy has recently responded to famous Indian actor Anupam Kher’s tweet in which he praised the viral Pakistani video but he wrongly captioned it and claimed that the the kids belong to India. The singer humbly corrected the actor on his caption.

Anupam turned to Twitter with a viral video of talented kids from Hunza, who were giving brilliant performance playing with manual instruments, Indian actor claimed that they were from an Indian village.

The doors of Bollywood have opened for many Pakistani actors till date. The next actor from Pakistan to star in a Bollywood movie is a youngster who started his career from modelling and is now an actor and a model. Shehroz Sabzwari will be seen in Bengali director Riingo Banerjee’s upcoming film titled Luv Story. Shehroz Sabzwari talked to Dawn News about his Bollywood debut, talking about it he said, “Producer Shamik Basu scouted me after coming across my Hum TV Awards performance as well as a few pictures. He said he wanted to launch me into Bollywood which was obviously great news to me……….There are so many superstars going to Bollywood and it is such a monumental opportunity.”

Shehroz Sabzwari admits that he doesn’t think of himself as a superstar but “Nonetheless, it was nice to know someone was willing to put that kind of faith in me.”

“Basu and I looked at a couple of scripts but nothing clicked, nothing was strong enough for a debut until the script for Luv Story came along.”

The actor is looking forward to work with the Bollywood  directors and actors “I’m also really excited to work with Riingo as he will be making his debut in Bollywood as well. He is essentially a Bengali director and I have immense respect for that industry, as it is full of highly-educated individuals and has produced brilliant filmmakers.” Giving the details about he got selected for the film Sheroz said, “Riingo liked my look and thought I suited the character. However, I wasn’t instantly cast. They were looking at other options and about a month after I sent over audition tapes from Pakistan that [my wife] Syra (Yousef) helped me record did I learn that I had been selected for the role. It’s truly an honour because the project will be commercial entertainment without losing the essence of the art of filmmaking.”

The other actors who will be seen in the film are Riya Sen, Zarina Wahab, Aryann, Bidita Beg and Mukesh Tiwari among others.  Shehroz Sabwari will be going to India in January, we wish him all the best.

“My response to all the criticism was whatever I said, I stand by that. I feel criticism is always healthy, we take it, we accept it. All I was trying to get at was that you can say a certain trailer is “bad” or ”ugly looking” or whatever but you can’t say “don’t go and watch the film“, that’s not healthy journalism and I stand by that.

“Also, I would like to remind everyone that trailers are just a one-minute thing compared to a three-hour film, so let’s see how the film is. When we watched the movie, time just flew by. The movies that had good trailers didn’t exactly turn out to be good movies so let’s not be disheartened. I watched Balu Mahi’s trailer and I was blown away, I thought it looked like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film which is great for our industry but then I saw the movie and I thought they could’ve told the story in a better manner. I have complete faith in Chain Aye Na.”

“I get that people have high expectations from me but I promise I won’t just do an aiwein film. I own what I’ve made. Those people who are waiting for a Syed Noor film and Shahroz Sabzwari film, it’s going to be a treat for them Insha Allah.”

Talking about the genre and the story that the film has been set in, he further clarified:

“It’s set in 2017, the tone of the movie is new, it’s very much a modern day love story. I understand the trailer has people perplexed but honestly, it didn’t do justice to the movie we’ve made. We realized that, we reworked and lifted the trailer a bit and it has more than 500,000 views on YouTube now. It’s a fresh, romantic film and you won’t know what’s going to happen till the very end, it’s going to keep you hooked.”

Shehroz Sabzwari has high expectations with the movie, but we can’t say the same. No matter how much he clarifies and justifies, we still feel that the movie has a vulgar look to it. Well, we will have to wait and see how it turns out to be.

Visiting the two Holy places is a dream of every Muslim. Its a wish of every Muslim to visit Makkah and Madina at least once in their lives.
