Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali have worked together in the film Parey Hut Love. This is the first time that they shared screen space and this sizzling on-screen couple has constantly been seen promoting their film all around the world where ever the film is due to be released.
There were also rumors that Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali had fallen for each other in the process. Sheheryar Munawar recently got engaged but quite interestingly his fiancé has completely been missing from his life. The engagement was a family affair but is it really so private that there is no evidence of it on Sheheryar Munawar’s social media accounts?
When these two celebrities and friends were invited by Iffat Omar on her show, she directly asked them about their relationship status. Iffat Omar also said that this wasn’t something she had concluded because Sheheryar and Maya had great on-screen chemistry but this was something she had heard about them from other people.
Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali both denied these rumors, they said that they were nothing more than good friends. Maya Ali also said that ‘kuch tu log kahein ge’ was the best response to such rumors.
Even though the Parey Hut Love duo put these rumors to rest but all through the show their body language suggested something completely different which is why Iffat Omar couldn’t help wondering if there really was something more between them.
Sheheryar was not wearing his engagement ring and not once did he say that they couldn’t possibly be together because he was engaged. Sheheryar Munawar did say that he was in awe of Maya Ali. Maya Ali too praised Sheheryar for all his wonderful qualities which made her like him even more as a person.
Shehryar Munawar and Maya Ali also talked about the recent trend of discussing everything on social media. Maya Ali was of the opinion that people should try to sort out issues in private and not discuss everything on social media otherwise they would just be making a ‘tamasha’ out of themselves. In other words, Maya Ali thinks that most people who turn to social media are the ones who want attention and sympathies of the masses. (anewcareer.org) Shehryar Munawar also shared the same point of view and thought such people were misusing social media.
Iffat Omar right till the end was not convinced that there was nothing more than friendship between Shehryar Munawar and Maya Ali which definitely makes one wonder if they are indeed in a relationship.

We started knowing each other during those competitions—either the National College would win or the Alhamra College. I was amazed to hear the song and thought, “Who is this girl singing such a difficult classical piece?” That’s how we started talking, and eventually, we decided to get married. If we hadn’t found each other, it would have been a real problem for us—because we couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.” Here is the link to the video:

Shehanshah-e-Jazbaat or Tragedy King is a term used to describe any male actor who is known to perform tragic and emotional roles on screen. As compared with female roles, the tragic circumstances of male roles are totally different. Female tragedy roles mostly revolve around oppression by society, relatives (saas-bahu). The paradigm for male tragedy roles is different and it mostly revolves around some desperate love or unassailable romance known as ‘nakaam aashiq’. The inspiration of such roles is perhaps folklores of Laila Majnu, Heer Ranjha, where the male protagonist faced a tragic end in the romance.
Our showbiz history start from films and interestingly no one in our country has ever achieved the title of Shehanshah-e-Jazbaat. In films a stereotype hero is considered to be a perfect example of masculinity that is courageous, and cannot be very emotional. Actors like Santosh Kumar, Nadeem, Shaan have performed some sentimental roles, but these were overshadowed by their other powerful roles. Mostly a stereotype hero hides his emotions on screen, or if it happens some other character instantly quotes ‘mard ho kar aurton ki tarah rotay ho’
Only name that instantly strikes to be Tragedy King is off course Dilip Kumar who is a famous actor of Pre-partitioned indo-pak Subcontinent. It is said Dilip Kumar has perfected the role of an emotional hopeless/desperate lover in films. But Dilip Kumar has never acted in any Pakistani film.
Despite always getting inspiration from Indian films, not many films in Pakistan have shown heroes shedding tears on screen. So atleast in films we are deprived of any ‘Shehanshah-e-Jazbaat’.
Coming to dramas, in 1980’s despite some wonderful actors who can nail a serious or emotional role like Abid Ali, Touqeer Nasir, Firdose Jamal, Talat Hussain, Waseem Abbas no one is ever labeled as Tragedy King. But looking at current generation of actors we can sense many who easily qualify for the title of ‘Shenshah-e-Jazbaat’. Dramas of today proved a male role can also be emotional, can be sentimental and also shed tears like a female role and no one quotes ‘aurton ki tarah rotay ho’.
Here is the list of potential candidates of Tragedy Kings of our dramas
Faysal Qureshi
A versatile artist by all means, who has also done many emotionally, charged intense roles. ‘Meri Zaat Zarra Benishan’, ‘Maanay Na Ye Dil’, ‘Meri Unsuni Kahani’, ‘Adhoori Aurat’, ‘Aashti’ ,‘Qaid e Tanhai’, ‘Haal-e-Dil’, are few examples, where for one reason or other Faysal gets emotional and convinces the viewers he is the Tragedy King which was missing in our entertainment industry. A & B production has fair share in crafting the Tragedy King image of Faisal Qureshi.
Faisal Rehman
Another Faisal, another tragedy king, he seems to be tailor made for the role of a tragic desperate lover. Sometimes so desperate, ready to tolerate the affair of his wife like in ‘Maanay na yeh dil’, he himself allowed Aisha Khan to go live with Faisal Qureshi, hoping she will return one day. In drama ‘Maanay naa yeh dil’ both Faisals were there, desperate and crazy to get affection of Aisha Khan, both proved how intense they can be in such roles.
The tale does not end here, ‘Vasl’, ‘Sitam Gar’, ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’, ‘Khamoshiyan’, Faisal Rehman loves to fall in some unassailable romance and then perfectly depicts his miserable condition. His personality suits more for the soft roles which make him a perfect candidate for tragic roles.
Faisal Rehman started his career from films in 1980, in few films like ‘Beqarar’, he was an intense desperate lover opposite Baabra Sharif; one famous song of this film was ‘Meri wafa meray waaday ka aitbaar karo’.
Imran Abbas
The actor who got fame for his looks and attire, producer eagerly cast him in the role of ‘becharaa larka’. It all started from the role of Goher Mirza in ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’, then ‘Mujhey Apna Bana Lo’, ‘Khuda aur Mohabbat’, ‘Noor Bano’, ‘Dil-e-Muztar’ strengthened his credibility as a ‘rota dhota larka’. But he has also performed different roles like Akbari Asghari, Malaal.
Sami Khan
A talented actor, the day Sami Khan associated himself with A&B productions; there is no end to his ‘bechara pan’. ‘Bol Meri Machli’, ‘Umme Kulsoom’, ‘Meri Laadli’ ,’Tootay huway par’ are some of few examples where Sami proved himself entitled to be a Tragedy King.
Ahsan Khan
Ahsan has also taken the tragedy (‘ronay dhonay walay’) roles to new levels. ‘Saiqa’, ‘Meri Zindagi Hai Tu’, ‘Khoya Khoya Chaand’, ‘Meri Laadli’, ‘Mujhey Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai’ where to start where to end as Ahsan is an evergreen face who appears on screen in all four seasons in all types of roles including the tragic ones.
Moammar Rana
Many question his acting abilities but in films like a stereotype hero, he seldom appeared in a tragic role. ‘Dil Diya Dehleez’ is a drama when he appeared in a tragic role. But his role in ‘Ishq Ibadat’ was an intense depiction of desperate love, which can draw his name in the list of tragedy kings too. Some other instances of his emotional roles are ‘Roshan Sitara’,’Kalmoohi’
Humayun Saeed
Well few may question Humayun in this list. But here and there Humayun has also perfectly played some intense and emotional roles. The most striking one was the role of Zafar in his first film Inteha opposite Meera in 1999. In dramas, ‘Ishq Ki Inteha’, ‘Tere Liye’, ’Shiddat’, ‘Ishq Junoon Diwangi’ can be quoted as examples where Humayun was seen in intense roles.
This concludes my list of Tragedy Kings. Do share your feedback too.
Mere Paas Tum Ho is a drama that went on to become a modern classic. Danish, Mehwish and Shehwar played by Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan and Adnan Siddiqui was the story of an extra-marital affair but it became a story that toucched millions around the globe. The show went on to do well and another breakout star from the drama is Shees Sajjad Gul who played Rumi.
Shees Sajjad Gul played Rumi in Mere Paas Tum Ho. The child star was a big part of the story and it could not have moved forward without him. The young actor was a household name and he has now grown up since the show aired. He has formed his own opinions as a young man and they are a bit different from the world view.
Shees Sajjad Gul is now a huge fan of the drama. The actor said that he does not like Mere Paas Tum Ho. It was generic drama and it got a bit too overhyped. The star went on to add that he actually did not do much either. He will just learn the lines and say them so there was not much acting involved. He also called himself overhyped.
Bullying Culture is one of the most disastrous cultures of every society. Especially in schools, most of the time senior students bully their juniors or those who are physically strong often bully those who are weak just for fun, and at times it causes unrepairable damage to the mental health of students. Children become more complexed and depressed, loses confidence starts feeling inferior, and whatnot. In a recent interview, the star kid who got immensely popular from drama serial Meray Pass Tum Ho, Shees Sajjad Gul AKA Romi also shared an incident when he got bullied in school.
During an Instagram live session with Sara Baloch Shees shared how he got bullied by seniors and said: “once I won a voting and I were distributing candies they bullied me and took extra candies from my hand and from the box too, they used to bully my whole class actually, but I ignored”
Well, we believe that it’s high time to understand the disadvantages of bullying and to play our part in eradicating bullying culture from our surroundings. Want to add something to the story? Share your views with us!

Sheema Kermani is a Pakistani social activist, the founder of Tehrik-e-Niswan Cultural Action Group (Women’s Movement) and an exponent of Bharatanatyam dance. She is also a famous Pakistani classical dancer, choreographer, dance guru, theatre practitioner, performer, director, producer, TV actor based in Karachi, Pakistan. Her pioneering contribution to the promotion of culture and theatrical performances in Pakistan since 1978 have led to international acclaim.
Lately Sheema Kermani took to her social media account and shared her views regarding Ali Zafar being awarded Pride Of Performance. “So angry and so sad. What a pathetic day this 23rd March 2021 turns out! Hear the news that the Pakistani state and government gives the award of Pride of Performance to a man who has been accused by multiple women of Pakistan for sexual harassment”, wrote Sheema.
Sheema further added “By doing this what message does the state of Pakistan give us – that they support such men and consider sexual harassers as role models for the men of this country. And they do not stand with us women, they do not believe us when we speak out against abuse and sexual violation, they do not consider sexual crimes and sexual misconduct as a serious offense against womankind/humankind! I hang my head in shame! Meesha Shafi needs justice. No more misogyny, no more, we have had enough!”
Sheema Kermani is an activist and dancer who has led the movement for women’s rights since she was a teenager. She comes from a privileged background but her parents never approved of her lifestyle and her choices. She left her home at the age of 21 and never went back. She knew her path was different and she wanted to serve public. Her father was angry at her decision and they did not get to meet for 10 years.
Sheema Kermani spoke about how she did not speak to her parents for 10 years. She just sent them a message that she was safe and she kept pursuing her own path in life. Their meeting again was nothing short of dramatic. She was going somewhere on a bike while her parents’ car stopped near her at a signal. Her mother waved at her and asked her to stop.
They met after a decade on the road. Her parents were then more open to understanding her approach to life. She shared her parents who used to look down upon the working class who she work with, changed for her. They became far more accepting and they were supportive of her largely by the end of their estrangement. Sheema Kermani said that her parents also put in their effort to amend their relationship.
Sheema Kermani is a professional dancer and activist of Pakistan. She is known for her work on women’s rights. She has performed in theatre groups and protested against injustices. She never stopped speaking for the rights of women and minorities and she is thriving and making her impact at the age of 74. She sat for an interview with Frieha Altaf and spoke about her journey through eras.
Sheema Kermani also spoke about not having children. She revealed that it was a conscious decision from her side to not have any children and there was no resistance from her spouse regarding this. This was another part of her activism that she decided to not become a mother.
She shared that she never felt like she wanted to become a mother. Society pushes a woman to become a mother and it was a way to revolt against patrairchal values when she decided to not become a mother.
Here is what she shared:
The internet is divided into two camps. Many people are saying that it is Sheema’s own decision and if her husband was okay with it then no one should criticize it. While others said that kids are a blessing from Allah and thinking like this has brought population decline in other countries so it should not be normalized. One person commented that she is being ostracized because she made this choice as a woman while it would have been okay as a man. Another said it is not a problem when her husband does not have a problem. People on the second camp thought this is not the right mindset:
Sheema Kermani is a dancer, activist and teacher. She is known as the symbol of women empowerment in Pakistan and she has been working for the cause since the late 70s. She is very clear in her opinions and she is seen at different protests and shows where she presents her point of view.
Sheema Kermani was a guest on FHM and she spoke about how men today have gotten worse gradually. She shared that this has happened due to what they have consumed in content and news while they were growing up. There was dictatorship and the patriarchal views that were presented to them on TV made them worse than the men before.
This is what she said:
Sheema Kermani also called out Pakistani dramas for showing extra-marital affairs in every show. She said this is not happening in real life. It is not like every man wants to marry again. She also added that she sees dramas showing vampy mothers-in-law and that is far from reality. Not every mother-in-law is going to be negative.
Sheema Kermani is a Pakistani artist, dancer and social activist. She has been working with Tehreek e Niswan since the 80s and she has not looked back in the worst of eras. She has always stood by women and she speaks for their rights. She has gone through very bad treatment recently at the Karachi Press Club and now she is speaking out against it.
Sheema Kermani and Aurat March are planning to protest on 10th May which is also the Mother’s Day. She went to Press Club Karachi to raise their voices as the Sindh Government is not giving them NOC. They were mishandled by the law enforcement forces, pushed and arrested while they were not granted the NOC.
Sheema Kermani has also released her statement on video. She revealed that the police dragged her, her saari was torn and she was kicked. She is a peace loving activist and they just wanted an NOC which Sindh Government has still not issued. She is also disappointed how they were treated in Sindh which never happened before.
People are sending support to Sheema Kermani. Bushra Ansari said, “So sad to see this happen.” Fazila Qazi added, “This is shocking how you were treated.” Another person wrote, “This was horrendous.” Here is the reaction:
The name of the designer ‘Sheeba’, which means ‘promise’, defines the brand and its essence of commitment. A commitment to hold tradition, conserve originality and establish distinctiveness while embracing the trendy expectations of the new age women. In addition to its balanced hues, the traditional cuts of the collection in the form of Pishwaz, Angarkhas and Lehenga cholis have been carefully balanced with more contemporary bridal gowns with long trains and ruffles. As always, Sheeba Kapadia has stayed true to the latest trends in fashion through the use of geometric patterns, sheesha and gota cutwork and designer tassels.
Recently “Sheeba Kapadia” has launched their new bridal collection “L’amour Royal Couture Bridals 2021” featuring the very gorgeous Ayeza Khan.
Every ensemble is breathtaking. These beautiful outfits are all that you need to glam up yourself this festive season.
I won’t be exaggerating when I say that all of us, in one way or another, are manipulated by advertisements. This is because we are surrounded by them in every possible way. You switch on the television and you are welcomed by advertisements, you fetch a newspaper/magazine and there they are again, and now even while you are reading this article, there are a couple of advertisements on the right side of your screen. So no matter how hard you try evading them, you simply can’t and there is no denying that they play an instrumental role in shaping our opinions and perspectives. Therefore, I believe it’s necessary for advertisers to think through the content of what they intend to deliver because once it’s out; it goes to influence huge masses beyond measure.
There is a positive and negative side to our advertisements. I am going to highlight the negatives first, not because I am a pessimist, but just because I want to end my article on a positive note! So here you go: You can’t sell a product without dancing to your heart’s content, period.
Please, enlighten me, why do people change into OTT dresses and start dancing like mad the moment they get hold of the ultimate des ka biscuit? I have been eating them since years but what the enthusiasm is all about? I am still wondering!
There is this internet connection advert featuring actors who are on cloud nine (seriously!) because seems like their internet is working wayyyyy better than they had expected. Now this calls for a party so they arrange one where everyone is welcome to rejoice and dance with them because obviously, this is a huge deal. Okay, we get it, sound internet signals are a blessing, but how many of us hop and skip and go, ‘Ballay Ballay’ when the internet starts to work like lightning?
And oh, out of sheer curiosity, I even googled the benefits or you should say, after-effects of chaye. Yes, it contains antioxidants and increases your metabolism rate but nowhere does it say that it triggers the release of hormones which compel you to dance and gyrate like that! When the advert finally ends, it takes quite a few seconds for me to come into terms with the fact that a bunch of the country’s most popular film stars dressed in nauseously colourful clothes went through great pains to perform such complex dance moves just because they wanted to sell some chaye ki patti. Insane!
Exaggeration, weasel words and even false claims at least make sense when they are being used to ‘convince’ the target audience. But I for one can’t seem to figure out what these bizarre dance moves have to do with the success rate of a product.
Pakistani young generation: why so farigh?
I happen to be a part of the young generation but surprisingly, there is a lot I didn’t know about my own breed. I extend my utmost gratitude to all the mobile networks out there for letting me know: we don’t read, we don’t write, we don’t work and apparently, we don’t even sleep! According to mobile networks, love has hit us hard and thus we chat and converse with each other all night long! Are you kidding me? Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? ”Aap jayen jidhar, theher jaye nazar’’
A woman is ‘successful’ only when she gets noticed by people for being the ‘fairest of them all’. Devastatingly, the main girls’ colleges/universities of Karachi are surrounded by billboards, stabbing the self-esteem of all the young girls out there with the same, belittling message: Fair is Beautiful!
Talking about appearances, having flawless hair also has a lot to do with the success of a woman. More ridiculous is the fact that little girls are also expected to have straight, silky hair or else no one would want to talk to them. A piece of advice: if your friends don’t talk to you just because you don’t have perfect hair, no need to get yourself another shampoo, just do yourself a favour and get rid of these ‘friends’. Also, who comes to school with their hair flowing all the way down to their waist?
More like expecting them to be Snow White and Rapunzel at the same time!
Logic? 404 Error: File not found
I know it may sound absurd, but I don’t like the way Bablu gets mocked for washing his hands for one whole minute. Whatever soap you use, washing your hands for ten seconds is nowhere near hygienic but the little kid gets ridiculed just because he has healthy habits. All jokes aside, I actually feel for him, you know?
Okay, so now for the positives; Positive messages/role models ‘’Tou phir ho jao good kay liye crazy’’
^See, that’s the sort of taglines our advertisers should come up with more often! Remember that Coca Cola Ad in which a bunch of people set out to do random acts of kindness? It was innovative and inspirational at the same time. Also, Alamgir’s ‘Albela Rahi’ in the background added just the sweet little touch that was needed to complete the advert. I watched this perfect advert a zillion times with a constant smile on my face. :D
And yes, Tang’s advertisement was also cute and moving, where a child becomes his dad’s superhero by helping out the people around him, conveying one simple message: Anybody can make a difference. And he did it during the month of Ramadan, thus rekindling the spirit of the holy month.
My purpose to cite these examples is to remind you all that we are NOT running out of creative minds, it is just that creative minds aren’t getting a proper platform.
Humour
Humour has always been an integral part of the toolkit of our advertisers and my my, has it not done wonders! It’s safe to say that many of our adverts actually make us chuckle after a long, dreary day. Ufone ads are always humorous and therefore, they stay with us for long. Remember, ‘teri awaz ka jadu’? ;)
Catchy jingles
Hands down, we have always been ahead of the game in coming up with catchy jingles and touching background songs. Ding Dong’s cute jingle, Pepsi’s unbeatable ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’, Nestle Everyday’s heart-touching ‘Tum Mai Hai Kuch Khaas’ anddd the list goes on!!
And yes, one simply can’t forget Supreme’s amazing series which included phenomenal songs with beautiful videos like Ishq Nachaya (starring Shamil Khan) and Bas Ishq Muhabbat Apnapan (starring Iman Ali and Rasheed Naz). For a Sufi lover like me, it was heaven! Shoaib Mansoor was the man behind the camera, so what else do you expect?
We have got tons of potential. I wish our advertisers just step out of their mindless dance routines and try experimenting with innovative ideas that succeed in leaving a mark. Maryam Mehdi
Prime Minister Imran Khan has married thrice but it seems like he has given his heart and soul to his current wife, Bushra Bibi.
In a recent interview with Der Spiegel’s Susanne Koelbl, he talked about his country’s role in global politics, his admiration for the Chinese leadership and the similarities he shares with U.S. President Donald Trump. Most importantly he credited his wife for the success and also expressed his love for his wife and called her ‘soulmate’.
The interviewer asked, “You recently remarried. The first lady, Bushra Bibi, is a well-known faith healer. Do you take her advice on political issues?”
Prime Minister Imran Khan replied, “Only a fool doesn’t talk about everything with his wife.”
He further praised his wife for her wisdom and said, “She has great wisdom. I discuss everything with her, also problems I face in government, dealing with complex situations.”
“She is my soulmate. She is my companion. I would not have survived without her,” Khan said these words in praise of Bushra Bibi.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi tied the knot on February 2018 in an intimate Nikkah ceremony which was held in Lahore. According to reports, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi met for the first time in 2015.
