Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) franchise Quetta Gladiators suffered on Sunday a huge blow when the veteran all-rounder and former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi announced to withdraw from the league midway. Afridi’s announcement came hours after the Gladiators’ win against Islamabad United.

In a video message released after the match, the Pakistani sixer king said that his body isn’t allowing him to continue playing at this moment. “The pain in my body has become unbearable and I can’t endure it right now. I wanted to play the PSL for my fans and wanted it to end on a good note but I am unable to do so now. I’m sorry to the management of Quetta Gladiators and my fans,” he said.

Seeing that the movie entails the efforts of really big names of Pakistan as well as the charm of Boom Boom is pretty enough to make the viewers crazy about the film, I also have very high expectations, the same as most of the people are already comparing it with ‘Lagaan’, ‘Chak De India’, but I am positive it will be different and fairly as worth watching as them.

Shahid Afridi wrote, “I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly.”

“I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah,” Afridi added.

Shahid Afridi was busy with his foundation as the coronavirus is rapidly spreading in Pakistan. Earlier, he offered to work for brands in exchange for ration and funds which will be used for underprivileged people who are suffering in this time.

Shahid Afridi is a former Pakistani cricketer who is also known as Boom Boom Afridi. He is celebrated for his fearless batting style and excellent spin bowling. His most important record is his fastest century in ODI cricket at just 37 balls during his debut innings in 1996. He also scored a match-winning 54* in the final of the 2009 T20 world cup. He is married to Nadia Afridi, with whom he has five daughters. Shahid Afridi is now the grandfather of two adorable kids.

Recently, Shahid Afridi appeared in Samaa TV’s podcast, hosted by Sawera Pasha. In the podcast, the cricketer affectionately talked about his daughters and grand children.

Talking about the birth of Aqsa, he said, “I was having a haircut when I heard the news of my firstborn. I was shaking while holding her, and I felt the same way when Ansha arrived. I am truly blessed to have daughters and grandchildren. Being a father and grandfather is a gift. I consider my grandchildren as my own children; they are all my kids. I have seen my life change with the birth of each daughter. My life has improved, and I am very happy and blessed to have five daughters. It is important for a father to spend time with his children. Pakistan’s former cricket captain Shahid Afridi is considered as a conservative father because he forbids his daughters to play sports.

Due to social and religious reasons, he doesn’t allow his daughters to play outdoor games. For this statement, he faced severe criticism from many people.

In a recent live session, Shahid Afridi talked about how he treats his daughters and clarified his stance.

He said, “We have some people who get a  little education and start speaking the western language, it is difficult to control them. First thing I never comment on anyone’s life.”

“My daughters are getting an education and they have their own vision. My daughter Aqsa is number one throwball player in her school,” Afridi said.

“So we have to see a lot of things because we are Muslims and we have Pathani culture. Our religion teachers us many things and we have to follow it but some people take it as negative. Honestly, I don’t care about people because my God is pleased with me.”

Shahid Afridi further said, “I never stop my daughters from anything. My daughter Aqsa had a wish to join the army but I said to her that you are a little late, you can become a doctor. My daughter Ajwa wants to go to college for further education, my daughter Ansha wants to become a fashion designer and she wants to run my foundation with me.”

Afridi said, “So I believe it’s my duty to tell them about wrong and right till a certain age and then they have their own life. I believe as a parent nobody can teach better than us.”
