Raqs-e-Bismil Last Episode Story Review – Worth The Wait

I was waiting for Raqs-e-Bismil to end and I honestly did not think that this last episode would be as engaging and powerful as it was. Tonight’s episode was a lot like all those episodes in the first few weeks which made Raqs-e-Bismil a drama that was thoroughly entertaining. For more than 14 weeks, Raqs-e-Bismil was right on track and after being off track for such a long time, this last episode did justice to a drama that always had potential. The treatment given to this last episode by the director Wajahat Rauf definitely made all the difference. The use of background music and effective camera work made this last episode an absolute treat to watch. The performances were also on point and after a long time, the scenes were not stretched. I was perhaps more pleasantly surprised and even impressed because I did not have any expectations from this last episode at all! The element of intrigue was kept alive right till the end which made this ending one of the best and memorable as well! And all of this is coming from someone who thought they had lost all interest in the drama!

Powerful and Engaging

This last episode opened with Saranga and the gang meeting Peer Qudrat Ullah to ask for Zohra’s hand in marriage. Just like most of the things connected to this gang, this latest development was also somewhat strange! However, ultimately that is how they found out that Zohra was getting married to someone else! I feel that this was not the best way to give Moosa that important piece of information; there could have been many other more logical and believable ways to do so! We finally got to see the fierce and impulsive side of Moosa which had been subdued after Zohra got married! I loved this particular scene because it reminded me of why I fell in love with Raqs-e-Bismil in the first place and I knew this last episode was going to be full of action and emotions! Moosa and Zohra’s meeting was worth the wait. Imran Ashraf completely stole the show tonight when he translated every single emotion superbly on screen. This was a reality check for Peer Qudrat Ullah more than anyone else and the writer deserves credit for revealing the truth in such a powerful manner.

Raqs-e-Bismil Last Episode Story Review – Worth The Wait

Zohra’s dialogues were penned down impressively and even though I was quite annoyed with her until last week, I found myself liking her character in this particular episode. That basically goes to show that if the scenes are to the point and meaningful, the characters automatically start making sense. Even in this last episode, Peer Qudrat Ullah took his sweet time and so many people had to convince him that getting Zohra married to Moosa was the right thing to do. Zohra was finally back to being the sensible person she was introduced as initially.

Final Remarks

This last episode was picture-perfect! I am so glad that the drama did not have a tragic ending. I must say that it was the kind of ending that makes you forget how much torment we were put through in the past few weeks. It was truly gratifying watching Moosa and Zohra getting a happy ending. It was also a well-executed end. Laila should have been in the picture though since she was one of Moosa’s closest allies and well-wishers. Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan made a wonderful on-screen couple. Moosa will be remembered as yet another feather in the cap of Imran Ashraf; he is an outstanding actor who always makes his presence felt. He goes out of his way to give all the characters he plays a genuine feel. The writer deserves credit for having a definite purpose in mind while penning down this drama even though some of the messages were quite repetitive. This last episode however was written beautifully throughout.

Raqs-e-Bismil Last Episode Story Review – Worth The Wait

Overall Impression

Overall, Raqs-e-Bismil was a drama that was engaging and entertaining for the most part. However, when the story started going off track, there were multiple scenarios that turned completely illogical. Zohra’s marriage, the divorce, Zohra’s disappearance, and Esa’s feelings for Sakina after the truth was revealed were some of the most important developments which were not handled convincingly. Most of these developments in the last few weeks were used simply to stretch the story and add few more episodes to the drama. Esa and Sakina’s track completely lost its charm towards the end which was most unfortunate since there were so many viewers who were emotionally invested in this track. It won’t be wrong to say that towards the end, the writer failed to handle most of the tracks in a manner that would be expected from a writer of Hashim Nadeem’s caliber.

Moosa and Imran Ashraf remained the highlight of the show right till the end. Even when Moosa’s role as a savior was pushed to the limit, Imran Ashraf made sure that he stayed true to the character and gave it his best. The performances of all the actors involved were convincing throughout which is why it was even more unfortunate that the story went off track for a few weeks. Even though Raqs-e-Bismil tested my patience in the past few weeks, this last episode made up for that and I will always remember it as a drama that had the perfect beginning and ending!

Did you watch this last episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it. And if you had given up on this drama a few weeks back, I suggest that you do watch this last episode.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 9 Story Review – Going Strong

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was considerably shorter but it was engaging throughout. All the scenes added something tangible to the story and laid down the foundation for some of the most important turns in all the major tracks. I particularly miss watching Esa and Sakina’s scenes together. Tonight’s episode did not focus on Moosa’s punishment but more on his track moving on to the next phase. The script continues to be convincing and meaningful; some of the dialogues tonight were beautifully written. Zohra’s character is turning out to be interesting since she has a strong side to her personality because of which she does take charge when she wants to. Sarah Khan acted exceptionally well tonight and it is pleasant watching her play such a role that has different shades. Moosa’s helplessness coupled with his eagerness to wholly take responsibility for everything he has done makes his character easy to relate to and feel for.

Interesting & Unexpected

Tonight’s episode opened with Moosa’s mother and Ana Ji’s meeting. This meeting went unexpectedly well because I was expecting Ana Ji to overreact but the entire situation wasn’t too dramatic and quite interesting. Ana Ji gave Moosa’s mother the respect she deserved and the mother also showed that she had a certain degree of respect for her and Zohra. Even though she wanted to strike a deal, she did not belittle them the way one would have expected someone from her background could. Nida Mumtaz was convincing as a mother who was desperately in need of help. She is trying her best to bring Moosa back on the same path he had been following for years. This basically goes to show that she is still completely unaware of how intense Moosa’s feelings are and that the ‘damage’ that has been done is irreversible. The most surprising and pleasant aspect of this meeting was Zohra’s reply. Her dialogues were well written; they reflected the sensible and likable side of Zohra’s personality. She really does come across as someone who is educated and who has seen enough to know how she should handle a certain situation. She also proved that she is not kamzarf and was willing to do the mother a favor which she could easily have refused. It was good to see Zohra taking control yet again and even now she seems rather unimpressed. She keeps on giving mixed signals which makes her character even more interesting.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 9 Story Review – Going Strong

The way Moosa’s character has been written and the manner in which it has been translated on screen makes it so easy for the viewers to understand the transformation he has gone through in the past few weeks. His personality was always strong when he believed in strict rules set down by his forefathers; he followed and executed them with all his might. Now that he has fallen in love, he is just as intense and rebellious. It won’t be wrong to say that Moosa was always an extremist therefore not much has changed, the only thing that has changed is his direction, and his basic personality remains the same. That is the reason why even though Moosa is completely helpless and withdrawn at the moment, he never stops trying. Moosa and Sitara’s meeting tonight was one of the best scenes from this episode since it showed how similar their situations were but how difficult it was for Moosa to show the kind of flexibility which Sitara was so willingly showing. She openly told Moosa that she would never stop him from pursuing the woman he loved as long as he was willing to give her his name. Sitara’s desperation somehow is not putting me off, perhaps because her sole introduction has been as someone who has loved Moosa for the longest time. Usually such characters can be quite annoying but I see Sitara as a victim who is just as powerless as Moosa. Imran Ashraf acted brilliantly in this scene, unlike before Moosa did not shout at Sitara or tells her off; this was such a wonderful way of showing that he did indeed understand how she felt but could not do much to help her. Sitara’s proposal however was such that Moosa could have considered it but he clearly did not. He was solely interested in knowing how the meeting with Ana Ji went.

Kamran is back in the picture and trying to reach Sakina desperately. His father was the only one who guessed what his intentions were and he was obviously not too happy with the situation. The preview of the next episode showed that Sakina is still as rebellious as before since even now she is more than ready to elope with Kamran. Sakina’s character was interesting before but now much of what she does is a result of blind revenge and rage. I am however looking forward to this track and waiting to see whether she gets a reality check sometime soon or not. Esa and Moosa’s interactions tonight were a lot like the ones we have seen in the previous episodes as well. In my opinion, such actors who have the most amazing on-screen chemistry should get more screen time together.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 9 Story Review – Going Strong

Malik Shehryar is not in love with Zohra, after all, he indeed is like one of those ‘sodagars’ as defined by Zohra when she accused Moosa of being one! For him, this is nothing more than a business transaction or a contract which is really important to him. In the next episode, he will give Ana Ji a proposal which she might just accept! Furqan Qureshi acted brilliantly tonight especially when he talked about nikkah and how little it meant to him, the expressions were on point. Gul-e-Rana was equally impressive in the opening scenes.

Final Remarks

Apart from a well-written script and execution which is for the most part on point, the solid performances make this drama a treat to watch. Also, the fact that it keeps on giving you something to look forward to due to its pace and the way every episode ends makes it truly enticing. The person in charge of the promos also deserves due credit for making sure that he does not give away any important developments in the story. The only thing which has not worked for me is how these women from conservative families who are so conscious about parda walk out of their houses with abayas but no proper dupattas or shawls. Zohra on the other hand, had a proper dupatta when she came to meet Moosa. I usually ignore such things but it truly stood out when Moosa’s mother walked out with her dupatta hanging on her arm and Sitara didn’t even have one when she met Moosa!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 8 Story Review – Doing The Impossible

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil had quite a few important developments to its credit. This was also another visually pleasing and beautifully shot episode of a drama that continues to encapsulate all the emotions in the most powerful manner. The story is moving forward smoothly and convincingly. Moosa’s madness was yet again translated on-screen convincingly by Imran Ashraf. It is truly commendable how he has completely transformed himself for the role since he is playing a completely different role in Mushk. Imran Ashraf is at the top of his game right now and the effort he is putting in to ensure that each one of his characters looks completely different on screen is truly commendable. Zohra’s feelings for Moosa are still a mystery since she is shown thinking about him quite often but we never hear her acknowledging her feelings for him. The most shocking development tonight was Moosa’s mother’s decision to pay a visit to Zohra’s house. The son who once held all the family traditions together is now single-handedly making everyone in the house rebel against these values. The way Moosa pleaded when he was trying to convince Esa and his mother were the most emotional scenes in this episode.

More Than One Love Story

It is interesting that this drama doesn’t just have one intense love story but many! Whether it is Murad, Sakina, Sitara, Moosa, Esa, or even Shehryar; all of them are madly in love but their situations are anything but ideal. Zohra met Shehryar once again tonight and this time around she was more willing to have a conversation with him. Whenever she is at these parties, she simply does what is expected of her and she does not like being around these shallow people. Once again her dialogues revolving around the men who invited them to these parties were more or less the same. While Zohra does not want anyone to judge her, she is quite judgmental herself. She also mentioned that she did not enjoy doing this work but she was simply doing this to please Ana ji. I am waiting to find out more about Zohra’s character since her dialogues have been more or less the same in every episode. Every time she is asked whether she is thinking about Moosa, she always replies in negative and explains why she has no expectations from anyone. Shehryar is clearly smitten by her and even wants to meet Ana, it remains to be seen what the purpose of this visit is.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 8 Story Review – Doing The Impossible

Moosa on the other hand took the challenge seriously and he decided to convince his mother to go to Zohra’s house. Moosa’s madness has been translated on screen so well that you can’t help but feel for him. Also, the fact that most of the dialogues clearly show how shocking this change is for everyone, helps you relate to his situation even more. Tonight Moosa was like a ziddi bacha asking his mother for the impossible. It seemed as if his mother went to meet Zohra more than anything else. Zohra is convinced that Moosa will never be able to meet her demand therefore this shocking development will definitely change the way she thinks. Right now, she is so used to being around people who think they can ‘buy’ anyone at all and no one who is actually willing to do so much for her. Her dialogues in the previous episode suggested that for a change she wanted things her way but was quite sure that Moosa will fail the test. Sarah Khan looked attractive in this episode and she gave a solid performance as well.

Moosa’s father decided to share the details with Sitara’s father and I am particularly impressed with how realistically this track has been covered. Sitara’s reaction showed how much she loved Moosa. It is difficult for her to reconcile with the fact that Moosa is involved with someone else. She has apparently been in love with him for the longest time. Their meeting should be interesting as well since both of them can understand each other on some level.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 8 Story Review – Doing The Impossible

Sakina’s track also moved forward tonight with her friend telling her that she had tracked Kamran down. I am wondering what Sakina has in mind and how it would impact her marriage with Esa. I would definitely like to see more of Esa and Sakina together. Their track has a lot going for it considering the circumstances and the performances have been on point as well.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode was engaging and well-put-together. This was yet another episode that ended at such a point that I will be eagerly looking forward to watching the next one! Moosa’s transformation and his madness stand out more than any other and Raqs-e-Bismil is definitely the kind of drama that transports you to another world mainly because of the performances and the execution.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 7 Story Review – Emotionally Charged

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was extremely emotional and it was directed beautifully as well. This latest episode had so many well-crafted and meaningful scenes that did not have any dialogues but they were extremely impactful. Tonight’s episode belonged to Imran Ashraf and Momin Saqib; Moosa and Esa’s relationship continues to be the most endearing element of the drama. Sakina’s growing bitterness and desire for revenge are not the least bit likable but it definitely adds to the emotional value of Moosa’s track. Zohra’s dialogues tonight about how she was done with being judged and felt that she also had the right to reject someone suggested that she in fact might be guilty of just as egoistic as Moosa once was. The writer Hashim Nadeem’s characters have so much depth; the director and the actors have definitely done justice to these characters by translating their emotional states in the aptest manner on screen. Moosa’s willingness to give up everything and Esa’s reluctance to accept this new position made their scenes an absolute treat to watch. There were also times when I felt as if Moosa’s punishment was more severe than Sakina’s because his father had more expectations from him.

The Punishment Continues

Moosa’s father continued to punish him in this episode too by taking his title away just like he said he would and later on by making him feel like he had lost the respect he had before, completely. This entire track was covered so convincingly and the director made sure that all the emotions were captured perfectly. Esa has always been shown as the younger brother who has utmost reverence for his older brother. Now that all of a sudden their positions have been switched, Esa is the one who is having the most difficult time accepting this change. Moosa has accepted his punishment and he tried his best to make Esa comfortable in this new position. He took up the duties which his brother had previously, wholeheartedly because he knows that he has let his father down. Even when Sakina shared her feelings with him when he was snubbed by his father yet again, Moosa reacted in a way that could have given Sakina a reason to reconsider her actions but her bitterness is such that she will not be moving on anytime soon. She feels that it is only the beginning of his punishment and everything he is going through is nothing compared to what he did to her. I was expecting Moosa to apologize to Sakina but he did not do that. The scene covering the change of heir was the best scene tonight since all the emotions were captured brilliantly.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 7 Story Review – Emotionally Charged

Sitara’s father’s concerns were also an important development in this episode. Through his character, the writer showed how this change of decision was being questioned for obvious reasons. He also noticed that Moosa was not the same person anymore and he had clearly lost his position. Esa’s conversation with Moosa also showed that people were curious to know the reason behind this change of heart. Through this conversation, the writer also communicated Moosa’s state of mind to the viewers. He is on a completely different path now and his sole purpose in life is to win Zohra over, nothing else matters to him. When Moosa’s father asked him to help Esa wear his shoes, Momin Saqib’s expressions were simply amazing! Mehmood Aslam also deserves tons of credit for translating the rigid side of his character superbly on screen.

Zohra’s Track

Zohra’s scenes tonight were quite interesting because they kept the viewers guessing. She definitely feels something for Moosa since she was thinking about him in the first scene but she is not willing to accept it just yet. Her conversation with her sister showed that she wanted to prove to Moosa that she was not going to be pushed into a relationship. She also particularly dislikes people who judge women like her and regardless of what she does, she does not have low self-esteem. We also found out tonight that Zohra is going to a reputable university and that she is the golden child. Zohra found out through Murad that Moosa had lost his title and his father had disowned him. Her reaction however was quite different from what I was anticipating it to be. The way she interpreted this entire development was actually refreshing! Zohra has a certain sense of pride; this is perhaps her way of exercising some degree of control.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 7 Story Review – Emotionally Charged

We also got to know more about Kamran’s character tonight. He is married but is more than willing to mingle with other women. He is fixated on Zohra and it remains to be seen how Zohra will react when she meets him this time around. Zohra’s character is turning out to be just as appealing as that of Moosa. Sarah Khan’s performance was on point in this episode.

Final Remarks

This was one of the best episodes of a drama that continues to impress. Tonight’s episode was brilliantly written and executed throughout. The preview of the next episode was even more interesting since Moosa’s mother will actually be going to Zohra’s with the proposal! The performances were outstanding like every week. It is rarely ever that all the actors perform as superbly as they have in this drama, that definitely adds to its appeal. This was also another visually appealing episode of Raqs-e-Bismil with impressive camerawork and amazing picture quality.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 6 Story Review – The Punishment

The story of this drama is progressing at a fast pace and every episode has at least one conversation which leaves an impact. Moosa and Zohra’s conversation in the opening scenes tonight was one such conversation. Tonight’s episode was perhaps the most intense episode of Raqs-e-Bismil and one which made me feel for Moosa more than ever. Imran Ashraf has translated Moosa’s madness in the most superb manner on screen. He has filled in the spaces left by the writer which could have only been filled by the perfect execution of the character. The writer has not spelled out some significant features of Moosa’s transformation, they can only be seen on screen through Moosa’s body language and expressions. There were some scenes in this episode that were really powerful and others lost their impact because of the way they were executed.

Zohra and Moosa

I see Moosa as someone who is not the least bit aware of what love is and how it works. After all only a few days back he was focused entirely on his work and did not even believe in love. Zohra’s conversation with him today helped me understand his character even more. Esa’s dialogues also clearly suggested that Moosa was not the same person anymore. When Moosa brought Zohra for the nikkah, he was certain that he was doing her a favor by giving her his name, he did not even pause for a second to think whether Zohra wanted that for herself or not. We have seen many heroes in Pakistani dramas who forcibly enter into a nikkah with the woman they love knowing fully well that they are wrong. Until now, Moosa did not even see that there was something wrong with what he was doing. Also, it was good to see a molana for a change who raised the important issue of consent since mostly in such situations the molana’s are more than willing to go ahead with the nikkah!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 6 Story Review – The Punishment

Moosa’s thought process was communicated through his dialogues in the opening scenes. Why would Zohra want to continue living the life she was living? Wouldn’t she rather be Moosa’s wife? Since she did not love anyone else, she had no reason not to love Moosa! This was Moosa’s thought process until Zohra gave him a reality check! Zohra won me over completely today mainly because of everything she said to Moosa. Her dialogues were penned down beautifully. The way she explained what it meant to love someone and told Moosa that she did not love him went to show that she was in fact not the kind of woman who was waiting for someone to come rescue her. In fact, she does not trust men at all and does not have a lot of respect for men in general therefore she has no expectations from the opposite gender. Right from the beginning, she has been constantly judging Moosa and telling him that he is like all the other men she knows. Later on, when she went back she took control of things by bailing Murad out. She is an intelligent woman who can get herself and others out of trouble. Zohra has certain strengths; I am waiting to find out more about this character especially after this episode.

Moosa is a lost cause, all he wants is to win Zohra over now, and nothing else matters to him. He is suffering in love, trying really hard to come to terms with this newfound version of himself. Even when Sakina slapped him, he did not react. This was such an intense scene but it would have been a much more impactful scene if Sakina and her mother were not glued to their chairs when Moosa’s father was shouting at him. Even later on, watching Esa stand there while Sakina hit Moosa was not too convincing.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 6 Story Review – The Punishment

Sakina and Esa

Sakina made the most of the opportunity by punishing Moosa herself but even then she was not satisfied. She also instigated her Taya to give the most severe punishment to Moosa. Although, I did not ‘enjoy’ watching Moosa getting punished because like Esa said he is not the same person anymore, I liked the novelty with which this track was taken forward. Sakina did not ‘plan’ all this but it was fate that gave Moosa a reality check he was not ready for at all. I was expecting Esa to be slightly more aggressive this time around and even Moosa’s mother just stood there crying while Sakina hit him. She was screaming more loudly and pleading more than she did tonight when Moosa wanted to kill Sakina. Esa tried to make Sakina understand that Moosa was not the same person anymore but she does not want to understand anything at all, all she wants is revenge. Sakina is a strong yet bitter woman; her character is intense and Anoushay Abbasi has translated it exceptionally well on screen.

Final Remarks

Right now the characterizations stand out for me more than anything else. All the characters have a certain screen presence; the credit for this also goes to the actors who have done complete justice to the characters they are playing. Moosa’s journey, the gradual unfolding of Zohra’s character, Murad’s love for Moosa, Esa’s loyalty towards his brother, and Sakina’s growing hatred make this a story worth watching. So much has happened in these 6 weeks, I am wondering what the writer has in store next. The preview of the next episode showed Pir Qudrat Ullah Shah making his decision public. I absolutely love Mehmood Aslam in this role. The scene showing him take Moosa’s turban off wouldn’t have been so intense had it not been for his phenomenal performance. Kamran and Zohra will meet once again in the upcoming episode.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 5 Story Review – Outstanding Performances

This was another fast-paced episode of Raqs-e-Bismil that covered all the tracks but Moosa has my undivided attention at the moment. His track is moving forward quickly therefore I am wondering how his story will progress in the upcoming episodes. The turn this character has taken can only be understood by hopeless romantics since such madness cannot be relatable for all the viewers out there. The writer however has tried his best to convey what Moosa is going through by penning down situations and dialogues which show how helpless he is in this situation.

Imran Ashraf was the star of the show tonight, yet again and the director Wajahat Rauf deserves a lot of credit for the amazing camera work and for capturing the essence of the scenes by not relying on close-ups which happens quite often nowadays. Every single frame tonight was shot in such a way that I actually felt as if I was there with these characters. It is always refreshing watching a drama in which so many different locations have been used and shot in such a skillful manner.

Moosa Makes Up His Mind

Moosa and Zohra met in the opening scene of tonight’s episode, this meeting was penned down and acted out brilliantly by Sarah Khan and Imran Ashraf. Zohra’s dialogues suggested that she was also constantly thinking about Moosa since whenever they met, he said something or the other which haunted her. Moosa also once again admitted openly that he was in fact in love. Even though he was in shock and at his wit’s end, he couldn’t help loving her. Ana ji is aware of the danger associated with the mad love Moosa has for Zohra but she eventually gave in when Murad made her understand that this was going to be the last meeting between these two. This particular development was not too convincing since, in one of the previous episodes, Ana ji said that she only allows her drivers and security guards to drive the girls to the parties and they were not allowed to go anywhere without them. Yet, she let someone like Moosa take Zohra away like that. It would have been far more convincing had the driver dropped Zohra at that location and waited outside.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 5 Story Review – Outstanding Performances

All of Zohra’s dialogues throughout this episode once again suggested that she does not believe in love. She is however clearly not that interested in her ‘job’ anymore since she tore the number given to her by Sheheryar and was not too keen to entertain him as well. Tonight’s episode also ended with Moosa and Zohra in the picture, with Moosa all set to enter into a nikkah with Zohra. Moosa’s meeting with Sitara was one of my favorite scenes tonight. Imran Ashraf’s cold body language and the way he translated the way he felt after listening to what Sitara had to say, made this scene impactful. He is a completely different person around everyone else and when he is with Zohra we see a totally different side of him. His conversations with Murad reflected his madness more than any other. Even though Murad warned him, Moosa gave a reply which did not leave any room for discussion. Saleem Mairaj is such an impressive actor; he breathes life into every character he plays effortlessly. I find myself feeling for Murad and it was heartbreaking watching him getting beaten in the preview of the upcoming episode.

By the end of this episode, it was quite clear that Moosa was no longer confused. Like any other person who falls head over heels in love, Moosa is willing to give up everything for Zohra. He is not thinking about his family’s name or honor; he only wants Zohra in his life.

Esa and Sakina

Esa and Sakina did not have any scenes together in this episode. Sakina is getting more curious to find out what is going on in Moosa’s life and it seems as if the cat will be out of the bag in the next episode. Esa continued to help Moosa even though his father clearly told him to keep an eye on him. Kamran also made an appearance in this episode, he is back in the picture and it remains to be seen if he will get in touch with Sakina or not. Sakina will get even more confident once she finds out the truth.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 5 Story Review – Outstanding Performances

Final Remarks

The top-notch performances by all the actors involved continue to be the major strength of Raqs-e-Bismil. Also, the overall feel of this drama has always appealed to me since it is not like the other dramas, the director has done an outstanding job of ensuring that all the scenes are meaningful, short, and engaging. Also, once again he managed to end another episode with a scene that truly makes you wonder what is going to happen next. The preview of the next episode was mind-blowing. Special shout out to Momin Saqib who has nailed Esa’s character even though he is working alongside the most talented actors of the industry, he makes his presence felt in every single scene.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 4 Story Review – Declaration of Love

“Asli kahani tu ab shru hui hei, Shah Ji aur Zohra ki kahani!” perfectly summed up what is coming ahead! Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was one which most of us were looking forward to eagerly, for obvious reasons. More than anything else, I wanted to see Moosa’s reaction after finding out the truth and I must say that it was totally worth the wait! After watching this episode, I am not too happy with Zohra’s character because I was expecting her to be slightly more ‘hard-to-get’ but it seems as if she is already ‘fascinated’ by Moosa, if nothing else. Except for one of the scenes tonight, everything else made perfect sense. Imran Ashraf’s performance was undoubtedly the best part of this episode; he has translated Moosa’s helplessness impeccably well on screen. Momin Saqib is another actor who makes his presence felt in every single scene, I would love to see him play more diverse roles in other dramas.

The family’s double standards were more apparent tonight since when Sakina was caught, the reactions were much more extreme. The peer sahib shouted at the top of his lungs after telling his wife to make sure that no one knew what was being discussed in the room. Also, the fact that Moosa’s father went to get him released himself did not sit well with me since someone like him could get his son released by making a phone call. I love the apt use of OST in the drama and the overall feel of every episode. As far as the story is concerned, this drama reminds me of Mera Naam Yousuf Hei although the premise of that story was completely different, it was also one of those love stories that highlighted the double standards of society. The director and editor deserve credit for ending all the episodes so far at such a point that you truly look forward to what is coming ahead.

Declaration of Love

In the previous episode, Moosa repeatedly refused to acknowledge his love for Zohra. In the powerful opening scene of this episode, however, he unknowingly and spontaneously declared his love for her. Sarah Khan’s performance in this opening scene wasn’t too impressive and it seemed like her dialogues were dubbed. The push she gave Moosa wasn’t powerful enough and her rage wasn’t translated on screen convincingly. Her dialogues were not too impressive either especially the logic she gave for covering herself. That was perhaps the moment when Moosa realized that he was indeed in love since even after knowing who Zohra actually was; he couldn’t move on and forget about her. Since Moosa never believed in love and identified love with a person’s outer appearance more than anything else, for him this is a completely new experience. He obviously thought he was incapable of falling in love or even liking someone who was slightly different from the woman he had imagined he would spend the rest of his life with. Even in this episode, he was struggling to understand what he was going through.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 4 Story Review – Declaration of Love

The fact that Moosa was completely helpless and at the mercy of his heart was shown through different scenes. He went as far as acknowledging his bebasi in front of his father and confessed his love for Zohra when he had the conversation with his mother. This was such a powerful scene, especially when Moosa says ‘chup’, Imran Ashraf truly outdid himself in this scene. The fact that Moosa gave his turban to Murad before leaving for Zohra’s house and went as far as paying for the meeting, goes to show that he will do whatever it takes to find the answers to his question and clarify the confusion he still has in his mind. Ana Ji is a clever woman who immediately gauged that Moosa was extremely desperate, it remains to be seen what deal she strikes with him.

Sakina’s Plan

Sakina is turning out to be a smarter person than I anticipated and this part of her personality definitely makes her character more interesting. The way she tried to talk Esa into telling her what was going on showed that she was quite capable of manipulating people when needed! She cannot stand Esa otherwise but all of a sudden she wanted him to confide in her! Right after putting him in a tough spot, she reminded him that he had to drop her at her friend’s house. I thought this scene was quite interesting just like most of Esa and Sakina’s interactions. Esa does not doubt Sakina’s intentions at all even though she made it quite clear that she has no feelings for him. As expected, Sakina asked her friend to get in touch with Kamran because somehow she still has hope that he will not let her down this time around. I have a feeling that Kamran’s rejection might give her a reality check and Esa’s love for her will eventually win her over.

Esa is turning out to be the most likable character in the drama since he is a gentle and loving person who is looking out for the people he holds dear. Tonight, when his father told him that he had to keep an eye on Moosa, his expressions said a great deal about how he felt about this new duty assigned to him. He has a lot of love and respect for Moosa therefore he is finding it really hard to accept this lost and helpless version of his older brother who was always so responsible.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 4 Story Review – Declaration of Love

Final Remarks

Moosa’s internal struggle and his outward nervousness, restlessness, and confusion were the highlights of this episode. On the one hand, he was not the least bit in control of his feelings or even actions, and on the other, he was equally conscious about the gravity of the situation given his family status and reputation. Zohra’s character did not appeal to me much in tonight’s episode; I was hoping that she would be fiercer. Sakina is definitely a more appealing female character so far. The preview of the next episode showed that Moosa will somehow go ahead with the engagement; this scene reminded me of Sakina’s forced nikkah and her buddua! Furqan Qureshi’s character will also make an appearance in the upcoming episode.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 3 Story Review – Prisoners of Fate

This was another interesting episode of Raqs-e-Bismil which focused more on Moosa’s mad love for Zohra more than anything else. I must say that I am not the kind of person who instantly warms up to the love-at-first-sight scenarios but Moosa’s madness was quite convincing. I also feel that through this story the writer has shown just how quickly things can change! All the characters and performances are turning out to be the most interesting aspect of Raqs-e-Bismil. So far, all the leading characters have some surprises in store in every episode. I especially like the way the writer has shown contradictions in Moosa’s personality. He is much more than another religious figure with double standards. Being in love has revealed a naïve side of his personality, some degree of innocence even which is completely different from his rigid and regressive side which we were shown in the first episode.

I find Moosa’s character most interesting at the moment and Imran Ashraf did exceptionally well tonight while translating just how clueless he is at the moment. Zohra took me completely by surprise because of the way she ‘introduced’ her real self to Moosa! Esa is extremely likable but he is not the kind of person who would quietly put up with everything; his vocal side makes him more appealing. Sakina is stubborn, more than anything else, which gives the viewers variation in characters. Momin Saqib’s dialogue delivery was beyond impressive tonight especially when he was giving Sakina a reality check. So far, fate has been driving all these characters in different directions and even though all of them are intelligent and capable individuals, they are completely helpless in the face of destiny.

The Irony

The irony of the situation Moosa is in started when he introduced himself to the people Zohra called out for help. The fact that he was so sure that he was not doing anything wrong was reiterated by him repeatedly throughout this episode. He is too afraid to acknowledge that he is in love because only a few days back he vowed never to fall in love. He is also someone who has always looked down upon love in general and would have killed someone who dared to fall in love! All his circumstances can easily be termed as a direct outcome of the buddua Sakina gave him when he forced her into getting married to Esa. There can be no other explanation for Moosa pursuing a woman the way he has been in these episodes. Even now, he is not willing to admit that he ‘likes’ her. Moosa was like a young child today who had discovered something brand new and was trying really hard figuring out what it was. He wants to spend the rest of his life with Zohra but he does not know why! That is why I feel that the writer has shown through his track that sometimes a person has no idea what fate has in store for them. Only a few days back Moosa was completely in charge and focused; now he is trying hard to figure something completely new out.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 3 Story Review – Prisoners of Fate

Another irony in this entire situation has to be Zohra’s hijab and even the tiny details such as why she wears those gloves. Moosa’s dialogue about wanting to marry someone who wouldn’t even show her hands to others will surely come to haunt him. The writer has shown in such an impactful manner that the stereotypes attached to hijab can sometimes be so wrong just like any other such fixed beliefs. It was amusing that Moosa questioned the views attached to his beard and men who looked like molvis but he did not for a second question the beliefs he had attached to women who cover themselves. I am still waiting to find out what will make Moosa pursue Zohra even after finding out the truth.

Moosa’s first interaction with Saleem Mairaj’s character was another meaningful scene. All of a sudden Moosa realized that even though he was lost in his own world at the moment, everyone around him could see what was going on. I absolutely loved Moosa and Zohra’s interactions tonight. Imran Ashraf was convincing throughout and Sarah Khan it seems will be playing a different role in this one after all. Instead of telling Moosa who she was, she decided to show it to him! I thought that was really amusing and much more effective. Moosa’s engagement was a little too sudden, I am waiting to watch how that will impact his track.

The Dare & Promise

Esa decided to give Sakina a reality check in this episode. His dialogues were brilliantly written since they reflected so many different aspects of his personality. We all know that he is in love with Sakina and he is also hurt. His dialogues tonight also showed how much respect he had for Sakina’s mother and his father. His definition of ghairat was also different from that of Moosa. The most interesting aspect of this confrontation however was the dare; unknowingly he provoked Sakina who is already quite agitated as it is. It seems she will try to get in touch with Kamran and she might even end up falling in love with Esa at some point. Her dialogue, ‘khuda na kare wo wakt aye ke mujhe tum se mohabbat ho’, could turn out to be another one of those dialogues that will be proven wrong as the story progresses. Esa and Sakina’s track keeps my interest alive as well even though they do not get a lot of screen time.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 3 Story Review – Prisoners of Fate

Final Remarks

I must admit that I was not expecting Raqs-e-Bismil to be such an unconventional love story full of irony. So far, the tracks of all the leading characters are unusual and interesting. The preview of the next episode showed that Moosa’s father will find out about his meetings with Zohra. Moosa’s ‘confusion’ will only worsen after finding out the truth. His expressions in the preview of the next episode however clearly suggested that he is madly in love and will now feel more helpless than ever! I am eagerly looking forward to what the writer has in store for us in the upcoming episodes.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 27 Story Review – Search Ends But …

This was the second last episode of Raqs-e-Bismil yet it had so many scenes that were stretched or were repetitive. The story and the journeys of the characters make sense but Zohra’s character, in particular, isn’t the least bit appealing! Moosa finally found out about Zohra’s whereabouts in this episode. Was the struggle worth it? I am waiting to find out! I genuinely want to see Moosa happy in the end and for his sake, I hope that they end up together in the last episode even though Zohra is bent on getting married to anyone else except Moosa!

Zohra – The Obedient One!

When this drama started there were different shades to Zohra’s personality. Her views about different things were actually quite intense as well. It seemed as if hers will be a strong character but it was not meant to be! Apparently, Zohra is just one of those many heroines who believe in people-pleasing especially when someone goes out of their way to do something for her. She got married to Malik Sheheryar because that is what her Ana Ji wanted and now she is willing to marry Ahmed so that she can repay Peer Qudrat Ullah for giving her shelter! The fact that she has so much respect for this person who gave her shelter makes sense but it is almost funny that she never actually thinks about how she is ‘betraying’ him by hiding her identity considering how he actually feels about women who come from such a background! Zohra’s character is rather strange, she is ‘supposed’ to be a likable character but I find it extremely difficult to like her…Perhaps because I expected better from her or maybe because it is a dodgy character. Even though she had so much support from all the ladies in the haveli, she decided to do what she deemed fit! Why couldn’t she just ask for some time? I am finding Zohra annoying because of her irrational decisions although the reasons make sense.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 27 Story Review – Search Ends But …

Zohra obviously feels that Moosa deserves better! Even though Moosa has repeatedly told her how much she means to him. She has gone out of her way to please everyone else except for Moosa – the person she claims to love. Although, this is supposed to be a gesture to show how pure her love for Moosa is yet somehow I am so not moved or convinced! Yet again, there were so many scenes tonight that were dedicated to showing how highly everyone thought of Zohra – these scenes have been highly repetitive.

Moosa’s Search Ends But….

After months of looking for Zohra, Moosa finally found out where she was yet he could not reach out to her. Watching Moosa suffer for so many weeks has definitely been tedious. Imran Ashraf however makes it easy for the viewers to feel for this character even though he is running after someone who hasn’t even once gone out of her way to please him even! Zohra’s ‘selflessness’ makes Moosa a bigger victim! Moosa and Esa met after such a long time yet their scene was not heart-warming enough. There was a time when I used to look forward to their scenes together; the spark is completely lost now! Will Moosa’s father finally forgive him? We will find out soon!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 27 Story Review – Search Ends But …

Sakina and Esa

Esa finally forgave Sakina today and it was good to see them having a normal conversation for a change. This is another track which went downhill and lost its spark. When Sakina found out the truth about Zohra, her reaction was predictable; she did not feel betrayed even for a second but she actually actively worked to plan Zohra’s future with Moosa! After giving the entire situation some thought for a little while, Sakina saw an opportunity to make Moosa’s wishes come true. Zohra continues to be the biggest hurdle at the moment!

Final Remarks

I completely agree with Imran Ashraf “what is this behavior Zohra??” I am glad that Raqs-e-Bismil is finally ending! This second last episode was strictly okay. Zohra’s decision yet again was the biggest disappointment. Moosa’s suffering continues and it remains to be seen if it will ever end! I am going to be watching the last episode for Moosa and hopefully won’t be left wondering if Zohra really deserved to be with him. Like I said last week, the writer gave an interesting message through this drama but the last few episodes have been dragged to the limit and the story lost its charm altogether.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 26 Story Review – Repetitive

Raqs-e-Bismil’s main theme is repeatedly being shown through different scenes in every single episode. I find the basic concept of the drama quite interesting but I feel that due to the undue repetition it is not having the impact it should be having. The pace of the drama has slowed down considerably. Also, due to minor errors in the execution of a few of the scenes and scenarios, some of the most important elements of the drama are unconvincing at times. After last week’s episode, there was some hope that the story will go forward in this episode but most of the scenes were repetitive. Gharoor ka sur neecha was clearly the main theme of this episode. Sadly, the performances are going downhill with every episode as well because the actors must also be losing interest given how repetitive the dialogues are. Sarah Khan’s make-up look did not go well with Zohra’s present situation at all. She might not wear colorful clothes but she makes sure that her make-up is always on point! Since everyone is always talking about Zohra’s sadgi, it was so important that Sarah Khan was not shown wearing so much make-up. Also, everyone’s “fascination” with Zohra is unbelievable and forced.

Regrets and More Regrets

This episode focused a great deal on regrets; except for Moosa everyone else seems to be full of regret for some reason or the other. Tonight’s episode opened with Chanda and Zohra’s meeting. Chanda said out loud what has been shown in the previous few episodes. The viewers got to hear Zohra’s perspective and how it has changed now. There was a time when she judged Moosa as well and everyone who came from such a background, yet for some reason, only Moosa’s family’s impression of Zohra seems to be the focus of attention. She was equally judgmental about them! Shehryar’s track is still dragging on since somehow the writer is convinced that we need to see more of his bechargi! Personally, I am not interested in watching him suffer even more and I find these scenes forced. We all know that he lost his wealth and the support of his family, his track should have ended there! His conversation with Shehbaz Gill was confusing as well since when he had all the wealth, he was constantly trying to please him and never talked to him so aggressively and now with no money and support, he had the guts to ask him for a ‘favor’ in such an aggressive manner!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 26 Story Review – Repetitive

While I always wanted to know why Sitara suddenly disappeared and if there was an actual reason why she was part of the story, her ‘comeback’ in the story was not used to change the course of the story in any way! Yet again, the writer showed how those people who rejected Moosa were punished and that was about it!! Even Sitara could not convince Moosa to go back. He is waiting for his father to change his decision and it seems as if that is what he might eventually do. Moosa found out tonight that Sitara went to meet Zohra, another revelation that wasn’t too impactful.

Zohra got yet another opportunity to learn more about Moosa when she visited his room and read his diary. Sarah Khan’s poetry recitation was far from impressive in this particular scene. By the end of this episode, Sakina finally found out the truth about this stranger’s identity. The preview of the next episode suggested that this will make little difference; she will probably continue to be in awe of Zohra and will be more convinced than ever that Moosa bhai was justified in falling head over heels in love with this girl. The writer is bent on making a saint out of Zohra and is making all the noble or affluent characters look like they are proud and misled!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 26 Story Review – Repetitive

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode was dragged as usual even though there are still some elements of the story that could have been interesting but the slow pace and repetitive scenes have undermined the entertainment value of the drama. Esa will be back in the next episode and his scene was a lot like many others we have seen lately. Peer Qudrat Ullah wants Zohra and Ahmed to get married once her iddat ends. Esa might be the one to inform Moosa about Zohra’s whereabouts and this chase will finally end!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 25 Story Review – Changing Perspectives

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil gave hope that there might be some interesting developments in the story in the upcoming episodes. Some of the scenes were yet again stretched unnecessarily. Saranga’s scenes have been added to the story simply to extend the episodes. For a change, I found Zohra’s track interesting since the use of irony by the writer has been right on point! The way everyone including Moosa’s father was so greatly impressed by Zohra’s personality was a repetition of what Moosa went through and perhaps a way to make his father understand his situation. It seems as if the script might be back on track. The story is finally headed somewhere even though the script has lost its initial appeal. The number of episodes is definitely directly proportional to the number of sponsors that appear on the screen! Tonight’s episode made me look forward to the next one and I really hope that the last few episodes will be more interesting than the previous few. We also found out today why Ahmed was being given so much attention in the previous episode.

Zohra Gets Acceptance

Many of the scenes tonight were dedicated to showing how Moosa’s family warmed up to Zohra and they were comfortable sharing those secrets with her which most people won’t share with strangers! Zohra found out a great deal more about Moosa through these conversations. She definitely has a reason to fall in love with Moosa all over again after hearing all those things. She didn’t know much about him even up till now and now she knows more about him than she ever would have. The writer used Zohra’s presence in the house not only to carry the story forward but also to change different perspectives. No one except Moosa’s mother knows Zohra’s real identity therefore all of the characters who have met her so far are so sure that she comes from a noble background! They are all experiencing what Moosa experienced when he laid his eyes on Zohra for the first time.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 25 Story Review – Changing Perspectives

If Zohra’s character or personality was slightly more appealing these reactions would have been far more convincing. Sarah Khan’s make-up did not help either; it would have been so much better if she toned down her make-up for these scenes. However, it was easy to tell that the writer was continuously putting forward the same message which he did in the initial episodes when Moosa met Zohra. It also reiterates what Moosa said to his father, the dialogues which have been repeated in the recent episodes quite a few times. It won’t be wrong to say that there are times when you feel as if the writer is trying too hard to get the message across. Peer Qudrat Ullah is thinking about getting Zohra married to Ahmed, some of the scenes in this episode suggested just that. When he saw Zohra praying, he was very impressed, he praised her later on and his conversation with Ahmed suggested that he was thinking on these lines. Moosa’s mother is doing everything in her power to make up for her past mistakes. Zohra and Chanda finally met in this episode which means that this ‘mystery’ will hopefully be solved soon!

The Gang!

Just like all the other recent episodes, a lot of screen time was dedicated to showing how Saranga and his gang continued to be in action. Faizee does not know anything but the viewers are continuously being shown scenes covering how hard Saranga’s men are trying to know the truth. I am glad that he will be out of the picture now. Moosa’s dialogues tonight were the highlight of this episode. Yet again, they showed how he was gradually giving up and had no longer the kind of hope he had before. Although this bromance is likable at times, this entire track seems to be getting way more screen time than it should have been.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 25 Story Review – Changing Perspectives

Laila’s Track

Laila and Moosa finally met tonight; the misunderstandings were cleared and Laila made an important decision. She finally decided to leave Tauqeer. This meeting was well written but Zara Sheikh’s performance left a lot to be desired. I have always found Laila’s track interesting but it would have been so much more appealing if this character was being translated on screen by some other actress who could have done justice to it.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode was definitely more engaging than the previous few. I actually found myself rooting for Moosa and Zohra solely because of Moosa! He deserves a happy ending! I wonder where the Ahmed track will go from here. I really hope that they do not stretch the drama to a point that the viewers lose interest completely. The preview of the next episode was interesting as well.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 24 Story Review – Finding Zohra Part 2

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil had so many scenes that could have been impactful yet they literally put me to sleep! Some of the scenes were over-dramatized even though they did not have a lot of significance. Others could have been extremely emotional yet the dialogues and the performances were so staged that they left absolutely no impact. The turn of events was interesting and even the message the writer is attempting to put forward is worthwhile yet the story has been stretched so much that I actually find myself wanting to go back a few weeks when everything was so much more interesting! The flashback scenes in this episode reminded me of all the powerful scenes we have seen in the past but are completely absent from these latest episodes.

After Moosa, now it is Moosa’s family’s turn to fall in love with Zohra! Sarah Khan’s performance was beyond disappointing tonight and those lenses and that eye make-up looked completely out of place. The talaq ka daagh dialogues made me cringe! Zohra is the ultimate dukhyari at the moment yet she is getting on my nerves like no other! The whole idea that sometimes God’s plan works in ways we cannot even imagine is definitely an interesting one but the way it has been executed isn’t too appealing. The most annoying aspect of the drama right now is Zohra’s existence and Saranga’s gang! The over-emphasis on punishing the culprits was yet again completely unnecessary. Esa and Sakina’s track has completely died down now. The writer lost his grip on this track, just like all the others after Esa found out the truth.

God’s Plan

All the important developments in this episode showed how God had planned certain things in a way that no one could have imagined. This episode opened with Moosa and Zohra both turning to God after losing the will to fight. While Moosa’s dua made some sense, Zohra’s fixation with her barbadi now that she was a talaq yafta aurat was a major put-off! I have such a difficult time relating to this woman’s mindset since any other independent woman such as her with a person like Moosa by her side should have been thanking her stars! Apart from that, it would have been physically impossible for someone in Zohra’s condition to walk this far since we have seen her getting weaker by the day and this time around she was given an extra dosage of the sleeping pills! Moosa prayed for everything else but he never asked Allah to unite him with Zohra, this was really strange since he is looking for her desperately yet he did not even pray for her well-being. His dua was directed more towards himself, even though his sole purpose in life right now is finding Zohra!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 24 Story Review – Finding Zohra Part 2

Saranga and the gang managed to get their hands on Faizee and his wife. These scenes were stretched and comical since the longest time was dedicated to how they failed to rescue Zohra and I have no idea why Faizee’s wife’s confessions got so much screen time! This gang is turning out to be one of those gangs from children’s novels that a 10-year-old might find amusing but a grown-up would have a really difficult time finding such scenes interesting. Zohra immediately got love and affection from the peer family but her reaction was really cold. If she was confused, it would have made more sense. Sakina’s instant fascination and love for Zohra were forced as well. Sarah Khan was seen in a full face of make-up yet again the second she entered the house. Her dialogues made me cringe and even her conversation with Moosa’s mother wasn’t impactful because of the way this scene was shot and acted out – the emotional element was completely missing from it.

Esa has gone away for now and since he is the only other person except Moosa’s mother who might recognize Zohra, no one will be able to find out her real identity for a long time. The basic takeaway from the drama is that no one should be judged based on their family background or the kind of environment they grew up in. Also, that no one should feel proud to enjoy a certain higher status in society. This message was powerful in the initial episodes but with time it is losing its significance in the midst of all the unnecessary details and tracks that have been added to the story.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 24 Story Review – Finding Zohra Part 2

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was a lot like the previous few with the main focus being Zohra’s ‘disappearance’! The entire drama revolves around Zohra at the moment yet the character is as flat as it could possibly be. The performances, execution, dialogues, and even the transition from one scene to the other were not up to the mark in this episode. Moosa was the main attraction of this drama but now watching him looking for Zohra endlessly is getting repetitive. Imran Ashraf continues to give every single scene his best and I find myself wishing that the rest of the leading cast, in particular, was performing just as well. It seems as if the story will be stretched further before it finally ends!

Did you watch tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil? Do share your thoughts about it.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 23 Story Review – Finding Zohra

Raqs-e-Bismil is losing its charm with every passing episode since most of the scenes are being unnecessarily stretched. Only a few weeks back, I was continuously appreciating the writer and the director for keeping the scenes short and interesting but things have changed drastically in that department. Some of the tracks in the story have also stopped making sense altogether. I never warmed up to Saranga’s character therefore I find his ‘heroic’ endeavors uninteresting, to say the least! A lot of screen time was dedicated to giving Sheheryar a befitting ending and there was some development in Zohra’s track as well. The most important development was Sakina taking her bud dua back but I did wonder how she found out about Moosa’s current situation. The flow in the story was disrupted a few weeks back because of which the emotional connection is just not there anymore. Ahmed was given special importance in this episode, I am wondering why?!

Meaningless Stretched Conversations

There were so many meaningless conversations that were dragged to the limit. It was as if someone was reading out the details from a novel! This episode opened with Moosa and the gang discussing Zohra’s disappearance and everything they had learned in detail. Much of what they discussed was repetitive and the viewers learned nothing new from it. The brainstorming session ended with the decision that they were going to go after Sheheryar before they start searching for Zohra again! The decision came as a complete shock to me! This led to yet another stretched scene which ended with Sheheryar getting a thappar and Saranga and gang winning over Zohra’s ‘sarparast’!! The fact that Sheheryar did not get the money he wanted from Laila seemed like a decent punishment and a good ending to the track.

All of a sudden Zohra and everyone related to her is the biggest victim. Considering the fact that Anaa has been running this ‘business’ for so long, it is highly unconvincing the way she is so over-dependent on Moosa. Does she have no other contacts? If she held Zohra so dear, why did she sell her off and severed all ties with her? This track has stopped making sense altogether! We have Dil Na Umeed Tu Nahi on one hand which is truly depicting the bitter realities and on the other hand, we have Anna Ji who is ‘missing’ the girl she sold and wanted nothing to do with yet she expected her to be happy! This entire situation is as unrealistic as it gets!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 23 Story Review – Finding Zohra

Overall as well, Zohra’s track has been written so badly. In the beginning, she came across as an intelligent and strong-headed woman but ever since she got married, her character and the journey have gone completely off track! While Zohra could not even walk a few steps earlier, after being given an extra dosage she was up on her feet and able to run away in this episode! The writer definitely wants people to wonder whether Zohra will live or die – I wish I cared more for her but I honestly don’t. As of now, Zohra is more of an ‘idea’ or an ‘ideal’ than a person! All thanks to the writer, who did not etch out this character properly. Even if this was a one-dimensional character, it would have been better but for now, Zohra seems like the only character without an actual personality or even a journey! Since Moosa’s entire struggle has been for this woman, she should have been a more powerful or at least interesting character. Right now, she is like ‘sleeping beauty’ who is waiting for her prince charming to come save her.

Laila was yet again foolish enough to take a step all on her own without thinking things through! Laila is yet another character whose sole aim in life is to get Zohra back. Quite literally, most of the characters in the drama are running around looking for Zohra and the entire situation is a bit comical now! Faizee and his wife’s conversation was another lengthy and boring one in this episode. I am wondering if there was an actual reason why the conversation at the shrine which focused more on Ahmed was given so much attention. Will Esa die? There must be a reason why this conversation was shown. Any guesses?

Final Remarks

I have lost all interest in Raqs-e-Bismil at this point. I hope that it ends soon before all the tracks become even more meaningless. It is unfortunate that writers have to stretch their stories unnecessarily in order to meet the demands of the production houses, channel owners and in doing so they lose track completely! It is pretty evident that Hashim Nadeem was not too keen on stretching the story. Everything was fine a few weeks back and now not much makes sense! Raqs-e-Bismil is being sponsored by so many leading brands therefore there must be pressure on the channel to stretch the drama which is why everything else has taken a backseat. The cinematography was definitely on point in this episode and the camera work was impressive too but that did not make up for the unconvincing and stretched storyline. Imran Ashraf continues to be phenomenal as Moosa, this will always be considered as one of his best performances. However, I would love to see him in a different role next time around since he has done a lot of rescuing in his recent projects.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 22 Story Review – Lackluster

This latest episode of Raqs-e-Bismil focused more on Moosa, Laila, and Sheheryar. Sheheryar’s track probably came to an end with this episode. Zohra got barely any screen time and it would be safe to say that ever since she disappeared, the drama is getting more fantasy-like than ever before. I am also getting tired of watching Moosa suffer, can we have his happy ending already? Some of the dialogues tonight were also disappointing such as the ones uttered by Moosa when he found out the truth. The fact that Zohra’s character is too plain makes everyone’s efforts to ‘rescue’ her seem meaningless! Yes, I am seriously wondering if she is worth the effort! I don’t find myself rooting for Zohra at all after the decisions she has taken lately. There was nothing new about Esa and Sakina’s track. It was however good to see Moosa’s mother making an appearance, finally! The flashback scene however was too long and not really required. Laila’s explanation was also stretched needlessly. Zara Sheikh’s makeover was unbearable even though her performance overall was much better than before. A few weeks back all the scenes added something new to the story but now some of the scenes are repetitive and others are stretched.

Faizee’s Plan Fails

The previous episode was dedicated to laying the foundation for the ‘important’ developments that were to be shown tonight but what happened tonight did not turn out to be as impactful as it should have been. Yet again, Saranga came to Moosa’s rescue and did not let him fall into Faizee’s trap. Saranga is turning out to be someone whose sole purpose in life is to protect Moosa. This entire development wasn’t powerful enough. Even though Moosa found out the truth but that ‘makeshift’ door he entered from was too distracting! It is also difficult to take things seriously when all of a sudden the relatively new characters start running the show. Although I find Saranga’s character amusing, I find his reach and efforts for Moosa a little too far-fetched. Since Murad was introduced as a pan wala who had lost everything, it is difficult to relate to his ‘new identity’ as someone with so many connections. Anyway, Saranga eventually managed to get Sheheryar out of the way and he also knocked some sense into Moosa so that he wouldn’t end up doing exactly what his opponents wanted him to.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 22 Story Review – Lackluster

Faizee also wanted to create a misunderstanding between Laila and Moosa since he wanted to make sure that Moosa would be infuriated enough to take an extreme step. This scene was executed so poorly and it ended abruptly. Laila visited Moosa, later on, to narrate Sheheryar and Zohra’s story to him! This scene was unbearable since the viewers had to listen to a detailed version of things they were already fully acquainted with. Moosa is also back to being the impulsive person he was before and the changes we got to witness in the previous few episodes were non-existent in this episode. If it weren’t for his friends, he would have been clueless.

Moosa’s Family

Moosa’s mother was shown pleading for her son once again while his father is just as stubborn as ever. Even after all these weeks, nothing has changed. It was however good to see these two discussing their son and it would only be logical if they are kept in the picture. Esa and Sakina’s track is going around in circles. Their scenes are short and mostly repetitive. These two characters and their track had so much potential but slowly like all the other tracks, this one has also lost its spark.

Final Remarks

I have really enjoyed watching and reviewing Raqs-e-Bismil for the most part but things started going off track gradually a few weeks back and now Imran Ashraf is the only saving grace of the drama. That is obviously not enough since the writer has lost his grip on the story and Zohra’s character has been a huge disappointment. It has turned out to be a caricature – a woman who needs saving! I am also wondering why Sitara’s track was added to the story, perhaps to add to the list of ways in which Moosa insulted his father and his choices! I hope that the drama will wrap up soon because the thriller aspect of the show is badly executed and the dialogues are putting me to sleep!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 21 Story Review – Suffering Continues

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil revolved most around Zohra’s disappearance. The writer has used this latest development as a means to take the story in a different direction. A lot of screen time was dedicated to Tauqeer and Faizee’s plotting and planning. Moosa’s state of mind was translated on screen superbly by Imran Ashraf, yet again. The fact that Moosa isn’t the least bit bothered about his parents and has conveniently forgotten them annoys me more with every passing week. Laila’s character continues to be interesting. I also feel that the ‘sonay ki chirya’ reference is being quite repetitive and it would have been far more thrilling and suspenseful had Zohra’s present situation and location been kept a secret. Sarah Khan deserves credit for wearing the kind of make-up that made her look unwell in this episode since that was what the scenes required tonight. Sitara’s character has disappeared completely from the picture which does not come as a surprise since it was a pretty useless character right from the start!

Moosa’s Troubles Continue

I have always felt for Moosa but now watching him suffer even at this point makes me feel for him even more. The poor man deserves a break since he has been a lost soul for the longest time now. Ever since he laid his eyes on Zohra, he has been suffering in one way or the other. Now that he finally learned to live with Zohra’s loss, he found out that Shehryar has divorced her and she is missing! As if this was not enough, the entire responsibility of looking for Zohra lies on Moosa’s shoulders and he is just as clueless as anyone else. Even though it seriously annoys me that Moosa has never tried to get in touch with his mother if not his father, I always have an easy time relating to his struggles and connecting to his helplessness. However, now I have really started wondering if Zohra is worth the trouble since she was so keen on staying with Shehryar and didn’t think Moosa was worth fighting for. For the first time while watching a drama I feel as if the leading lady does not deserve to be with the hero, usually it is the other way round!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 21 Story Review – Suffering Continues

The first scene of this episode set the tone for what was coming ahead. Moosa is on a mission while Faizee and Tauqeer have something different planned for him. It remains to be seen if Murad’s connections will manage to give him the information he will need to keep Moosa from falling into their trap. Murad has stood by Moosa and their scenes tonight were more heartwarming than ever. Even when he does not agree with Moosa, he goes along with whatever he wants to do and at the same time tries to knock some sense into him. Zohra’s health is deteriorating, the writer wants the viewers to wonder whether she will live or die. Personally, I find Zohra’s track more uninteresting and dull than ever because of the way she reacted to her divorce.

Laila’s Gullibility

Although Laila is a businesswoman who has a lot of exposure yet she trusts people too easily. Her most prominent personality trait has to be her sensitivity and gullibility. She is also too forgiving which is why she is feeling bad for her husband who tried to get her murdered! Personal safety definitely is not a priority for this lady. When Faizee came to see her she told him that the police were looking for him but he was also shown meeting Tauqeer in the prison! Such inconsistencies make it really difficult for the viewers to take these situations seriously. Faizee had the longest meeting with Tauqeer even though the police are desperately searching for him that made no sense whatsoever! Faizee managed to win Moosa and Laila’s trust by revealing a few details which he can use to his advantage. Laila is clearly really attached to Moosa therefore she will do whatever it takes to hide the fact that she struck a deal with Shehryar. Shehryar is now blackmailing her and is using this situation to his advantage. Zara Sheikh’s performance was strictly okay tonight as well. This character would have been so much more impactful if it was translated on screen more convincingly.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 21 Story Review – Suffering Continues

Esa and Sakina

Unlike last week Sakina looked like she actually understood what she had put Esa and Moosa through. This was yet again an inconsistency since her attitude was poles apart from her casual and cute attitude last week! Esa is unhappy and trying to avoid Sakina. They did not have a single meaningful conversation after Esa found out the truth. There was a time when I really used to look forward to their scenes together but now their scenes are such that they are mostly either meaningless or repetitive. Also, Esa’s mother is completely missing which is really odd.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil for the most part was interesting but it would have been even more so had there not been some inconsistencies that could not be ignored. Faizee and his wife got more screen time than necessary. Raqs-e-Bismil continues to be Moosa’s show! Imran Ashraf’s impressive performance and screen presence is the main attraction. Moosa will find out the truth in the upcoming episode but I doubt that he will blame Laila. I hope that the drama is wrapped up soon since some of the tracks are losing their appeal with every passing week.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 20 Story Review – Haphazard

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil wasn’t as impactful as it should have been considering that Zohra went missing in this one and everyone was worried sick for her. It was a little too fast-paced since so much happened but most of what happened was simply all over the place. There have been way too many coincidences lately and Sheheryar executed this latest ‘business deal’ in the most haphazard manner possible! I had a really difficult time connecting to Zohra’s pain perhaps because her mindset is not making sense to me at all. Even though the writer quite literally spelled everything out for his viewers but sometimes showing is more effective than telling! I know why Zohra was bent on staying with Sheheryar but the reasoning came across as meaningless especially for someone who valued her self-worth so much. Sakina and Esa’s scenes were a step in the other direction but even these scenes were not as impressive as their scenes were in few of the previous episodes. Everyone’s over-reliance on Moosa is getting repetitive as well. I honestly feel that the drama should end now. The fact that the supporting characters have lately been making an appearance only when they are serving some purpose definitely disrupts the flow of the story. It is always a bad idea to make the supporting characters disappear once the story reaches a certain point.

Zohra and Moosa

Tonight’s episode opened with Zohra and Moosa’s meeting but even after the declaration of love, Zohra was bent on making her marriage with Sheheryar work. She was devastated to find out that Sheheryar had divorced her. This divorce was sudden because of the pressure on Sheheryar from his family but it did not explain why he didn’t make sure that Zohra was with Laila when he sent her the divorce papers. The way she was kicked out of the house was forced, to say the least! So Zohra wanted to make this marriage work to prove to the world that someone from her background was capable of being ‘well settled’ outside the walls she was born in. The reason for this could be whatever happened to her mother in the past but considering Sheheryar’s plans for Zohra, it was really difficult for me to connect to her state of mind. She did not call Moosa for help and ended up being hit by Faizee’s car (coincidence!)

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 20 Story Review – Haphazard

All of a sudden Ana Ji is back in the picture and this time around she desperately wanted to know how Zohra was doing. She ended up being yet another person who had to turn to Moosa for help. Although I adore Moosa’s character but the fact that he is the only one everyone turns to for help is getting a bit far-fetched if not forced. Laila’s character continues to be dignified, she is even willing to forgive her good-for-nothing husband but Zara Sheikh’s performance continues to be shaky! Moosa’s dialogues about Ishq were the only dialogues from this episode that truly left an impact.

Sakina and Esa

Sakina asked for Esa’s apology as if what she had done was easily forgivable. She has definitely ‘moved on’ and is willing to start afresh but Esa obviously will need more time. I was expecting their scenes to be more intense but things are back to normal and it seems that very soon Esa will forgive Sakina just as casually as she asked for his forgiveness. The parents were not even shown in the scenes covering the track and I felt that they should have been kept in the picture since they have been such a vital part of this track. Esa’s honesty was likable and the fact that he chose not to be sarcastic was even more so. Other than that, this track is gradually losing its charm which is truly unfortunate since it was one of my favorite tracks.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 20 Story Review – Haphazard

Final Remarks

This was not the kind of episode that gives you a lot to talk about since even though the story is at a juncture where the viewers should be wondering what will happen next, Zohra’s accident and disappearance wasn’t the best way to keep the viewers interested. Zohra’s choices have been baffling as well! I also feel that Moosa’s relationship with his parents has been relegated to the background to a ridiculous extent. He is being discussed in almost all the conversations they have but he never even thinks about them! Moosa being such a caring and sensitive person shouldn’t be so comfortable being completely disconnected from his family. This episode was rushed and haphazard, there were so many tracks that needed to be shown in more detail. I hope that the story is wrapped up soon since with every passing episode Raqs-e-Bismil is losing its spark!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 2 Story Review – Lost In Love

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil focused mainly on Moosa’s track. This episode was relatively slow when compared to the first one; it was however intriguing and entertaining. Wajahat Rauf’s direction and the overall feel of this episode was such that it made all the scenes come alive on screen, making them visually pleasing. The solid performances of all the actors involved added a touch of reality and I like the way the dialogues have been written; short and meaningful. For a change, it is good to see that the actors were not made to look extremely fair. Moosa’s love story is already off to an interesting start since he has fallen in love with someone who appears to be his ‘ideal’ but is actually quite the opposite in reality! The writer has taken the phrase ‘looks can be deceptive’ to a whole new level! The relationships of all the characters with each other have been well-established in these two episodes which I think is a huge success.

Love At First Sight

Moosa fell for Zohra instantly and even though he is not the kind of person who would go ahead and propose to a girl like that, this time around he is really sure that she is the one he has been looking for all his life! I am glad quite a few beautifully shot and compiled scenes were dedicated to showing how madly in love he was. He wasn’t the same person who was introduced to us in the first episode since he was not focused on his work and was completely lost. In the previous episode, Moosa had no intentions of marrying, and falling in love was out of the question. All of that changed in a few seconds and it remains to be seen whether Moosa fell in love with Zohra solely because of her parda, if that is the case then how will he continue loving her knowing that the veil is only a way to hide her actual identity? We all know that he will continue loving her therefore I am waiting to find out how this love story unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

Moosa and Zohra’s first interaction in this episode suggested that Zohra did not have a high opinion of men in general, for obvious reasons. She told Moosa off and I especially liked the advice she gave him. Her other scene at her house/workplace showed that she was considered a favorite which is why she was allowed to get higher education. Sarah Khan has played a somewhat similar role before in Deewar-e-Shab, hopefully Zohra’s character will be much more interesting than Gaiti. Zohra appeared to be a confident and even an intelligent girl. She is definitely not the least bit interested in Moosa. I wish some of the information about the character which was revealed on different portals online was not so detailed since it definitely takes away the charm.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 2 Story Review – Lost In Love

Another thing I truly like about Moosa’s track is the relationship he shares with his family. He is warm and loving around his mother, obedient and respectful when he is with his father and his relationship with Isa is turning out to be the best part of these interactions with the family. We get to see different shades of his character while he interacts with these people. He also gave Isa a piece of advice which came as a surprise since in the previous episode he was constantly judging Sakina. These dialogues about ghairat show how he associates his honor with the women in his life which makes the fact that he is in love with an escort even more interesting. Moosa’s parents want to get him married to Sitara and it seems like she has a liking for Moosa. His mother can sense the change in him but she has no idea that she has actually found the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Moosa asking his brother for help was another one of those scenes that showed a different side of his personality.

Isa and Sakina

Sakina’s mom ki naak dialogue once again showed that she did not feel that trading her happiness for a life she didn’t want was going to save her family’s honor. She does not hold back while sharing how she feels in front of her husband either. Isa’s conversations with Moosa were interesting since he tried to hide the fact that he actually liked Sakina. He feels more than ever that he is not worthy of her but he confessed his liking for her nevertheless. Both of these characters are equally interesting. Momin Saqib and Anoushay Abbasi did not have too many scenes tonight but they made sure that they made their presence felt even in these short appearances.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 2 Story Review – Lost In Love

Final Remarks

Raqs-e-Bismil is off to an interesting start and there is definitely a reason to look forward to more. This second episode was the perfect example of teamwork done right. Imran Ashraf nailed his scenes yet again by breathing life into Moosa’s character. Mehmood Aslam also makes his presence felt in every scene, his dialogue delivery is truly impressive. The preview of the next episode was equally interesting; I am definitely looking forward to the next episode since Raqs-e-Bismil’s characters in particular are really appealing.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 19 Story Review – Changing The Narrative

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil changed the narrative completely and we finally got to hear Moosa’s changed perspective from him. His journey has reached its highest point with both the love stories taking the most unexpected turns. This drama belongs to Moosa since this character has become even stronger with every passing episode. Imran Ashraf’s commendable performance has breathed life into the character and his screen presence makes this larger-than-life character extremely endearing. Through this episode, the writer showed how, not just Moosa, but all the leading characters had evolved over the years. Zohra continues to be a weak character and I was especially surprised to see her reaction when Shehryar told her that he had decided to leave her! Why is someone like Zohra bent on staying with him? Ana Ji’s promise does not sound convincing enough!

Zohra and Moosa have learned to live without the people they held so dear, at one point, a little too easily, I find this part of their personalities extremely difficult to relate to. Zohra never retaliated when she found out that Ana Ji was never going to talk to her again and Moosa has not missed his mother even once! I think it was really important to add scenes showing how they felt about being away from their families but the focus has been entirely on their present lives or their love stories. I was expecting Sakina and Esa to get more screen time once they were back home. All of a sudden, Moosa’s father has no control over anything and his sons are changing the way things work in this family. Moosa was the one who wanted to kill Sakina when he found out about Kamran and tonight he was the one who saved her life. This was such an intelligent way to show just how much he had changed over the years. Moosa’s dialogues were penned down beautifully. He redefined bravery and manliness in a way that said a great deal about how much he had learned over the years.

Moosa’s Perfect Timing

There have been so many times when Moosa has reached a certain destination at the ‘right time’! Right from the first scene when he found out about Sakina’s nikkah to the one we saw tonight, Moosa’s timing has always been perfect! In retrospect, even when Moosa dragged Sakina away from Kamran, he did her a favor! Like Moosa said tonight that things have a way of working out, things did work out for Sakina as well. Had she entered into a nikkah with Kamran, he probably would have left her once he was under pressure.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 19 Story Review – Changing The Narrative

Once again tonight, Moosa reached right at the time when Esa was about to shoot Sakina. The writer has given this ‘hero’ a certain style where he changes everything at the last minute by simply being there! Moosa’s calmness and his dialogues were surprising even for someone like me who has been following this character’s journey so closely. When he fell in love with Zohra, he had a very different notion of love. Everything that Zohra said to him in those confrontations and eventually losing her for good, changed his perspective altogether. He was hurt but he learned to let go as well. Since Esa has always looked up to Esa and he loves Sakina, therefore, he listened to him. Esa’s father it seems never really found out what actually happened. Sakina chose to stay with Esa and in the end, it was all about what she wanted, which I feel is what changed the narrative altogether. She comes from a family where women were killed for ‘dishonoring’ the family and now they are being given the freedom of choice. While Imran Ashraf was simply brilliant as the wise older brother, Momin Saqib’s performance wasn’t as solid as it was in the previous episodes. Somehow his performance has not been as impressive as before since last week. Overall, however, he has performed exceptionally well as a newcomer.

Declaration of Love

Zohra’s track seriously confused me tonight! She literally begged Shehryar not to leave her even though she knows his intentions. She barely escaped the last time due to Moosa and there are certainly no guarantees that something like that won’t happen again. She wants to keep her promise even though leaving Shehryar is not going to burden Ana Ji in any way since he is not asking for money.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 19 Story Review – Changing The Narrative

Moosa and Zohra’s meeting tonight was definitely the highlight of this episode because the viewers finally found out how Zohra felt about Moosa all along. Her feelings for Moosa were always a ‘mystery’ and there were many instances when it seemed as if she was attracted towards Moosa. Therefore, her declaration of love seemed logical. Moosa’s excitement was translated on screen so well even though he knows that Zohra will perhaps never really be in his life but knowing that his love did not go unreciprocated was all the consolation he needed. A few days back Moosa was sure that Zohra was happy without him and was learning to live without her. Now all of a sudden he got to hear from Zohra that his love impacted her life as well. The candid moments these two shared were precious and made it seem as if these were two completely different people. This was perhaps the first time that we got to see both these characters happy even if it was for a short while. Zohra thinks she is not worthy of Moosa’s love and she is bent on staying with Shehryar – something that is not working for me at all! Why does she not have the option to go back? Moosa is now willing to go back to his parents if his father allows him and it is highly likely that he will eventually forgive him.

Final Remarks

This was an important episode of Raqs-e-Bismil which changed the course of the story. Zohra’s character is getting annoying now while Moosa’s character has retained its appeal for all these weeks. The preview of the upcoming episode suggested that Zohra will have an accident. Hopefully, this will be the turning point for her and she will change her mind. Overall, tonight’s episode belonged to Moosa and his transformation!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 18 Story Review – Murder Attempt & The Deal

The treatment given to this recent episode was underwhelming, to say the least. Laila’s character got plenty of screen time and it is turning out to be an important character that will make the ultimate sacrifice. All the other actors are well-suited for their respective roles therefore it is difficult to understand why an actor such as Zara Sheikh, who clearly lacks basic acting skills, was chosen to play the role. It is even more disappointing because the character and this entire track have been written so well. The most emotional scenes tonight fell completely flat because of the way they were executed. Even Momin Saqib’s performance in the last scene was not as impressive as it has been in the drama overall. The murder attempt and the manner in which it was thwarted wasn’t the most convincing element of this recent episode. This important development was covered rather casually and not shown in detail. However, there was an element of surprise in this episode as well which makes Raqs-e-Bismil a drama that continues to be engaging even though the execution seems to be faltering with every passing episode.

Flawed Execution

Tonight’s episode opened with Malik Sheheryar and Tauqeer discussing how their ‘investments’ were not turning out to be as lucrative as they had hoped. Sheheryar’s brother gave him a final warning; this was the first scene in tonight’s episode which wasn’t as impactful as it should have been because the actor playing the brother’s role did not act convincingly. Everything looked staged which made it difficult for me to relate to Sheheryar’s predicament. The conversation between Sheheryar and Tauqeer set the stage for the two most important developments in this episode. Tauqeer had already planned Laila’s murder and the aftermath of this murder attempt was the reason why Laila gave Sheheryar an offer he could not resist. Everything leading to the murder and Laila’s decisions later on made perfect sense but some of the performances left a lot to be desired. Tauqeer’s detailed conversations on the phone did not work for me at all since he could have planned all this face to face while keeping these conversations on the phone short and to the point. He was given more screen time than Laila at this point which I felt was not needed. I also cringed when he flushed the sim and was comfortable walking away without washing his hands!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 18 Story Review – Murder Attempt & The Deal

Moosa found out about the murder plan right on time, this was another coincidence that could have been avoided had he found out about it earlier. He could have been present there to prevent the murder attempt and the viewers should have been shown how and when he found out, later on. The fact that we were shown this scene beforehand made this entire development a little too predictable. Once again, Laila walked out of her bedroom and into the trap even though she had the option of calling her guards or the police. This scene was laughable especially because there was hardly any sign of worry on her face when she asked those questions and walked out of the room. She looked calm even though it was evident that this wasn’t the kind of situation she should have been comfortable with. The worry was minimal as if there wasn’t a murder attempt only a few days back! I would have liked to watch how Moosa rescued Laila and ultimately found out who had sent Kundun. The director definitely took a shortcut even though this scene needed to be shown in detail. While I appreciate the fast pace of the drama, I do feel that this time around some important scenes were compromised in order to wrap up this particular development in the story.

As if this was not enough, Laila was sitting in the hospital with a full face of make-up. This coupled with Zara Sheikh’s unimpressive acting made it really difficult for me to feel for Laila. This entire emotional conversation between Moosa and Laila could have been a treat to watch if Zara Sheikh was able to deliver the dialogues convincingly. Laila and Moosa’s interactions have been written in such a meaningful manner right from the start. There has always been a connection between these two and it was always difficult for me to understand what it was about or where this was leading. Tonight, we found out that because of this close connection with Laila, Moosa understood Zohra more than ever. And it was because of this connection that Laila decided to go all out to help Moosa. Imran Ashraf continues to give outstanding performance even when he is sharing screen space with actors who fail to deliver.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 18 Story Review – Murder Attempt & The Deal

By the end of this episode, Esa found out who was with Moosa that day. I must say that he figured it out pretty quick which was surprising given the fact that he never thought that Sakina could have been the one who was with Moosa the day he shot those boys. Since Esa has been monitoring the house in the same jeep Moosa was in, it is rather strange that no one noticed it and informed Kamran’s friends. I have loved Momin’s performance throughout but his expressions in this scene were not on point!

Final Remarks

This wasn’t the best episode of Raqs-e-Bismil in terms of execution. However, a great deal happened tonight which will make the next episode more interesting but in order to show all this in one episode, the director failed to pay attention to details. The shaky performances by some of the actors made it difficult for me to relate to and feel for some of the characters. The preview of the next episode was exciting! Will Esa forgive Sakina? Will Moosa’s father forgive him after finding out the truth? Will Zohra and Moosa be together in the end? I am waiting to find out.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 17 Story Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was powerful and well-paced. It had some of the most important developments so far. This episode was filled with revelations since so many secrets were revealed starting from the opening scene. With this episode, the story took yet another exciting turn with all the tracks moving forward. The conversations were well-written and executed. Zohra and Moosa’s meeting was definitely the highlight of this episode. Imran Ashraf’s performance continues to be the most appealing aspect of the drama; the show definitely belongs to Moosa! The confidence with which Imran Ashraf has translated different shades of Moosa’s character is truly impressive especially given the fact that the character doesn’t fit in the usual ‘hero’ category! He keeps on breaking stereotypes and never ceases to impress. The camerawork in some of the scenes tonight was also impressive as usual! Every scene added something to the story and that is what makes Raqs-e-Bismil such an interesting drama to watch. Zara Shaikh continues to be the weakest link even though her track has been penned down well, her performance has been shaky.

Moosa and Zohra

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil opened with Moosa rescuing Zohra, in the same manner, he rescued Sakina. The big difference here was that this time around he was face-to-face with someone high and mighty. That of course did not make a difference to Moosa who has nothing to lose and never really cared too much about consequences while following his impulses. This time around since he was defending Zohra, he did not need to think twice before acting on his impulses. This scene is definitely going to get popular since he has this particular way of ‘killing’ people, giving them to recite Kalma before dying! I find it very filmi and even amusing the way he feels he needs to kill everyone who puts their hands on his women while giving them a chance to recite Kalma! That hug and Zohra’s dialogues made it quite clear what was going on in her mind. When they met before Zohra did not apologize but this time around the situation was such that she ended up saying what was on her mind. Also, she had just realized that Shehryar would do anything at all to please Shehbaz and her integrity meant nothing to him. Therefore, she now valued Moosa more than ever now. This was how Moosa found out that Zohra was miserable and it would be interesting to see what he does next.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 17 Story Review - Thoroughly Entertaining

Everyone found out about Zohra’s past relationship with Moosa because of this opening scene and because of it Laila was more inquisitive than ever to find out who Moosa was. Esa’s timing, therefore, was perfect and it was through him that Laila found out the truth about Moosa’s identity. Back at home, Moosa’s father is clearly missing him and it seems as if at some point he might be more flexible! Esa cannot take up Moosa’s responsibility and his father is finding it difficult to manage things. Moosa hasn’t thought about his parents or family even once which is really odd since he loved his mother so much and was so close to Esa. Also, he shared a close bond with his father at one point too. He has lost so many people he loved yet he has not been even once shown thinking about them or missing them. Sarah Khan acted really well tonight which is why Moosa and Zohra’s scenes were a treat to watch.

Other Important Developments

Another important development in the story tonight was Shehryar’s family members pressurizing him to leave Zohra. This scene went to show that Shehryar’s family was not too proud of him and they were also rigid individuals who wanted him to do exactly what they wanted. He does not exercise the kind of control over his family which would be needed for him to continue doing what he wants. Also, Zohra’s mother’s story hinted that she might also meet the same fate. She will obviously be lucky if she gets divorced and that would also pave way for Zohra and Moosa’s union in the future. Laila’s husband is planning to get her killed again but at the same time Moosa is trying his best to find out who was behind the previous murder attempt. I can already see Moosa asking him to recite the Kalma next ;)

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was thoroughly entertaining. The preview of the next episode suggested that Moosa will be able to save Laila and her husband will probably be behind bars soon. I am waiting to see what turn Zohra’s track takes. I am eagerly looking forward to another exciting episode of Raqs-e-Bismil.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 16 Story Review – Chance Meetings

Moosa and Zohra met once again tonight and through this meeting, the viewers got to know why Moosa has chosen this ‘punishment’ for himself. There are some obvious changes in Moosa’s character as the story is progressing, it seems as if he is learning the ways of the world and therefore is able to control his temper now in situations that would have been unbearable for him before. His character and Imran Ashraf’s performance continue to be the most appealing element of the drama. Zohra is now comparing her husband with Moosa and the difference makes it crystal clear that she made the wrong decision.

The attack on Laila was badly executed and was shown too ‘casually’ considering that she was under more threat than ever after this attack. Zara Shaikh’s performance has been shaky, to say the least. She performed well in the previous episode but tonight there was nothing natural about this performance. She woke up in the middle of the night and had just been through a traumatic experience yet there was hardly any concern on her face which had layers of make-up! Also, the fact that she has been visiting this shrine so often that she even knows Moosa’s father makes it seem odd that she never met or saw the son who was running everything there. The shrine scene was also not too convincing since there were only a handful of people present there yet this was supposed to be the annual celebration everyone was looking forward to! Also, no one greeted Moosa or even noticed him in a way that Laila would have picked up that they already knew him. Moosa’s father dialogues, later on, suggested that everyone noticed Moosa’s presence there and it was a cause of embarrassment for him but it wasn’t shown too convincingly. It has been asserted repeatedly that before Moosa left everything, he was the one running the show there yet this ‘return’ to the shrine wasn’t covered in such a manner that it would have left an impact. This was an important but the weakest scene in this episode. Moosa’s father and mother have the same stance they had since the beginning; his mother understands him and his father is even more disappointed with him.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 16 Story Review – Chance Meetings

The Chance Meetings

Tonight’s episode revolved around the chance meetings which will change the course of Moosa’s track and the story in general. Moosa’s meeting with his father would now give his family access to him and Laila might finally know who Moosa is. Both these developments were important and so was the attack on Laila, even though they were not well executed. Tauqeer is spinning a web and it remains to be seen where this track goes from here. Moosa has already been in and out of prison therefore getting into another such situation shouldn’t be a source of concern for him! Murad has his back and he has the ‘contacts’ as well. Laila and Moosa’s interactions and their track is well written but Zara Shaikh falls short multiple times, killing the essence of this unusual bond between the two!

Esa is too occupied with finding out the identity of the woman who was with Moosa on the day he shot those boys. He cannot cope with the demands of the work assigned to him and even now he is constantly wondering how Moosa was managing it all. Moosa’s mother feels guilty since she feels that her son found out the truth and is now punishing himself as well as her! Moosa’s explanation for leaving everything and choosing to work for Laila tonight made his frame of mind clearer than ever. He feels that his family’s name and honor were the reasons Zohra rejected him and therefore he is not entitled to that kind of respect anymore. He wants to be in a position where he is constantly reminded of how different his stature and life are now.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 16 Story Review – Chance Meetings

Moosa and Zohra’s meeting gave Moosa another opportunity to say what was on his mind. Sarah Khan and Imran Ashraf acted exceptionally well in this scene. Zohra decided not to tell Moosa that his mother actually came to tell her to stay away from him but it seems as if he will tell him in the upcoming episode. I think the actual confrontation or the moment of truth will be shown in the upcoming episode. So, Imran Ashraf was the one saving everyone as Adam and now he is doing the same as Moosa. Some of the similarities between these characters are actually quite interesting. They are poles apart in terms of their background and character traits but there are also those traits that are too similar.

The scene with the police and at the party showed that Moosa was being more ‘flexible’ now. Shehbaz’s dialogues tonight and the way he went about luring Zohra into his trap showed that Shehryar was going to ‘present’ his wife to anyone at all in order to get a business deal done. I thought that all he wanted from Zohra was to give Shehbaz company and put up with his flirtation but apparently not!

Final Remarks

Overall, Imran Ashraf (Moosa) continues to be the star of the show. His track has my undivided attention even though Zara Shaikh’s performance continues to disappoint. This wasn’t the best episode of Raqs-e-Bismil in terms of execution but the story has definitely taken another interesting turn. I am waiting to find out how Zohra will get out of this one and if Laila will find out the truth about Moosa’s identity. Also, I would love to see Esa and Moosa in the same frame again!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 15 Story Review – Regret & Punishment

Reality checks, unmet expectations, unfulfilled desires, broken dreams, and most of all, the will to go on – Raqs-e-Bismil has it all and more! No matter what these characters go through life goes on for them and that is what makes the central characters of this drama easy to connect to. Every other week, the writer intelligently sets the stage for something even more interesting which keeps the excitement alive. These 15 weeks have been a wholesome journey with Moosa being the primary character that has a pull. Zohra’s naivety continues to be her most dominant personality trait because of which she failed to make the right decision. Except for the fact that Zohra had no idea about the deal Ana Ji had made with Shehryar, everything else was quite convincing. Laila and Moosa’s track has my undivided attention at the moment! Once Zohra is in the picture as well, things will get even more interesting. Why is Moosa so determined to work for Laila? I would love to hear everyone’s take on that and I will obviously be sharing my own thoughts in the review!

Zohra Regrets Her Decision

Tonight’s episode opened with Shehryar reassuring Shehbaz that Zohra will apologize to him. Later on, Shehryar and Zohra’s confrontation revealed that he was going to make sure that she did exactly what he wanted from her. He knows that he ‘owns’ Zohra completely and she has nowhere to go to. She is in the situation she hoped she will be out of when she married Shehryar. I am surprised Shehryar did not talk about the ‘deal’ while they had this confrontation. It was however good to see Zohra at least trying to fight back. It is well established by now that Zohra expected to live her life as a housewife after getting married to him and it is rather unconvincing how long it is taking for her to accept the situation she is in considering she always had such a low opinion of men in general. Even though he paid Ana Ji to win her approval, Zohra expected this marriage to be like any other! Even after Shehryar told her what his expectations were somehow she has a difficult time coming to terms with the reality of the situation. The thappar tonight and the revelation that her husband was already married came as a reality check and rude shock like no other. I must say that Sarah Khan failed to add the kind of intensity to this scene that would have made it truly impactful even though the dialogues were so powerful.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 15 Story Review – Regret & Punishment

Tonight, later on, she found out about the deal and that was yet another revelation that will further pressurize Zohra into doing what Shehryar expects from her. For the first time tonight, Zohra thought about Moosa but as is the case with Raqs-e-Bismil in general, the writer/director did not focus on the remorse or the hurt. This is clearly a punishment for her so that she will ultimately value Moosa’s feelings for her. He could have given her the life she wanted yet she did not trust him enough. Zohra’s feelings for Moosa have always been a mystery; so far it seems as if she was waiting to be ‘married’ in order to have any kind of expectations from men at all. All the conversations revolving around love and commitment, which she had with her friend, always suggested that she did not believe in happy endings. In reality, however, as is clear now, she was waiting to get settled down. When she accepted Shehryar’s proposal she had no idea what his intentions were therefore even though he was ‘paying’ Ana Ji to get married to Zohra, she did not expect to be treated like a commodity.

Moosa – The Bodyguard

Moosa is an interesting character! I have said this before but I always feel the need to say it again; the naïve and rather childlike part of his personality gives this character a definite appeal. Even though Moosa has the strength and the will to do whatever it takes to uphold the principles he believes in, his general impression of people and his outlook towards life is not mature enough! He is strong, emotional, and impulsive but definitely not street smart. Even before Murad started pointing out this aspect of Moosa’s personality, it was quite evident. We found out tonight that Moosa is in fact educated and therefore can take up a better job. Laila has a soft corner and a certain likeness for him since the beginning therefore she wants to see him doing something other than being her bodyguard! Moosa’s refusal to do and the reasoning he gave was open to interpretation. In the previous episode, he told Murad that he was going to protect Laila since he saw her getting abused by her husband. He also felt for her when Murad told him her backstory. Therefore, Moosa probably wants to continue doing this job because he feels that his madam needs him. The reasoning he gave her tonight, however, suggested that he did not want to make it big and that having such a job would keep him grounded – this was like a punishment for him since he was so used to living a completely different life. Moosa definitely has a mind of his own! Imran Ashraf owns this character; he has nailed every single expression and makes it easier for the viewers to understand this rather complex character. Saleem Mairaj is extremely likable as Murad – a friend like no other who sees all the qualities in Moosa which are not apparent!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 15 Story Review – Regret & Punishment

Just like Murad said, Tauqeer wants to get back at Moosa and this attack on Laila seems to be part of his plan to do so. Laila thinks highly of Moosa and perhaps after this attack, she will make him stay at his home which will give Tauqeer the opportunity he is looking for! Laila’s character is turning out to be a pleasant one even though there is a gullible side to her personality as well.

Other Tracks

Esa continues to be hopeful that he will ultimately find the woman who was with Moosa and that would change everything! It was good to see Sakina wanting to tell the truth since she is the kind of person who wouldn’t hide behind a lie to save herself. Her hands are however tied and she cannot tell Esa the truth! It seems as if he will ultimately find out the truth and it remains to be seen what will happen then. Sitara is still madly in love with Moosa but in a rather typical scene, her mother asked her to move on and get married to Ahmed. These tracks have taken a backseat for now but might be back in the limelight once the story moves forward.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was entertaining as usual with the story moving forward in different directions once again. Imran Ashraf’s performance stood out more than any other. Furqan Qureshi also continues to impress. The next episode is going to be even more exciting since Moosa and Zohra will meet once again, Moosa’s father will also see his son with Laila this time around!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 14 Story Review – New Beginnings

What an interesting turn of events! Raqs-e-Bismil continues to impress with the main protagonist Moosa taking the lead in the true sense of the word. I find myself looking forward to meeting these characters every week and Moosa continues to be the main attraction. With his rather twisted yet likable set of values, Moosa’s strengths outweigh his weaknesses. The writer has kept this character real throughout and Imran Ashraf has done exceptionally well especially considering the fact that bringing out the ‘naïve’ and somewhat ‘uncivilized’ side of this character was no easy feat! Moosa’s new job fits his personality so well and for a change, he was not shown thinking about Zohra tonight. The new characters have given this main track a new direction as well. Laila and Moosa’s equation is turning out to be interesting. Zohra and Moosa will meet once again since the stage is set for this meeting!

New Beginnings

Last week Zohra and Moosa’s tracks took a completely different direction altogether with both of them embarking on new journeys. Moosa accepted the fact that his father was not going to allow him to be a part of the family anymore and therefore he decided to start a new life away from his family. On the one hand, Moosa is emotional and impulsive; on the other hand, he is completely capable of being ‘practical’. Instead of spending days or weeks moaning Zohra’s loss, he started working as soon as he was offered a job. For a change, Moosa also did not ‘judge’ his boss and was keen on doing his duty as long as some of his terms and conditions were met. Laila’s track is interesting and the fact that she hired Moosa as her guard is even more so! Since Moosa has lived his entire life in a certain set-up that was completely different from the outside world, he does not gel in well with the ‘outside environment’. He is still learning to adjust to this life and that is the reason why he ended up hitting Laila’s husband! The way Na Murad introduced Moosa to Laila was priceless! It was almost as if he was voicing the thoughts of all those viewers who truly understand Moosa after watching him for all these weeks. Moosa’s mother’s dialogues tonight were the best ones tonight. She desperately wants Moosa to come back home but his father wants to punish him at all costs.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 14 Story Review – New Beginnings

Moosa’s new beginning was rocky since he made some new enemies tonight! He is obviously someone who is not afraid of the consequences of his actions therefore this was the least of his worries.

Zohra’s new beginning is definitely more challenging than Moosa’s since this marriage is turning out to be a nightmare for her. She wanted to leave the life she once lived behind and start afresh but Shehryar wants her to go on living the same life, this time as his wife! The writer has handled this track well since he has shown that Zohra is attracted towards materialistic things and she is willing to adjust but at the same time she does not feel comfortable being objectified. Shehryar is a ‘business-minded’ man who treats Zohra as a commodity and understands why others would treat her that way even though they are married. Zohra did not get the respect she yearned for all her life and which she was hoping she would get once she was someone’s wife. Her most recent actions will make her husband’s motives even more clear. Sarah Khan and Furqan Qureshi’s acting was convincing throughout. Sarah Khan looks picture perfect in every single scene and she has done justice to the role she is playing. Furqan Qureshi has proved that he can effortlessly make the viewers love and hate his characters.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 14 Story Review – New Beginnings

We found out details about Laila and Tauqeer’s relationship, their background, and Tauqeer’s evil plans. It seems as if Moosa will be playing a vital role in saving Laila; this is going to be really interesting! Will Zohra in any way become part of the revenge plan? I am waiting to find out. Moosa and Na Murad’s conversations always add something important to the story. The bromance between Na Murad, Esa, and Moosa is definitely the most heart-warming part of this drama. Moosa already has a soft corner for his madam after finding out how she has been exploited and is ill-treated by her husband.

Esa Is On A Mission!

Thankfully Esa did not find out the truth tonight but he is still impatiently looking for answers. The conversations he had with Sakina were well written and acted out. It seems as if these men have been given clear instructions not to let anyone know who was with Moosa that day, therefore they will not be revealing the truth anytime soon. However, there is a chance that Sakina might eventually tell Esa the truth herself. This track has been engaging right from the start and now more than ever I am waiting to find out where it leads.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 14 Story Review – New Beginnings

Final Remarks

I absolutely love Moosa in this new avatar as the ‘protector’ yet again! The scene in which he reassures Laila that he was there to save her was one of the best scenes tonight! Imran Ashraf’s expressions throughout were impressive. He deserves tons of appreciation for embracing Moosa’s flaws and at the same time highlighting his strengths convincingly on screen. Zara Sheikh also acted superbly in this episode. Apart from the flashback scene which was unnecessarily long, all the other scenes added something to the story. Raqs-e-Bismil is one of my favorite television shows at the moment because it has been thoroughly engaging throughout.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 13 Story Review – Reality Checks

Raqs-e-Bismil continues to surprise and every week there is a major development that changes the leading tracks considerably in some way or the other. It is storytelling at its best since every track is interlinked and the journeys of the characters are such that they are being taken in directions completely different from the one they started out from. Just like every other episode, there were few moments where I found myself questioning the scenes but the more important developments in the story were convincing as usual. I feel that with every episode I find something new about some character; tonight’s episode revealed more details about Murad, Shehryar, and even Zohra.

Moosa’s pain was translated on screen in a subtle yet impactful manner. I am glad that, unlike so many other dramas, the scenes are not needlessly dragged and even though the OST is beautifully composed, it has never been over-used. The director Wajahat Rauf has not even once stretched the scenes even though there have been instances when he could have easily given more screen time to one of the characters. For instance, in this episode, Moosa’s scenes were short and to the point, although they could have been stretched. This is primarily the reason that not a single episode of Raqs-e-Bismil can be termed as a filler episode. Laila Khalid was introduced in this episode and I must say that it wasn’t the best introduction given the fact that she was once such a popular heroine. Surely, such a person wouldn’t need an introduction yet Shehryar had to tell Zohra who she was! Furqan Qureshi’s performance was outstanding tonight and Imran Ashraf yet again made Moosa’s ups and downs come alive on screen. I am waiting to see more of Zara Sheikh. The party scene could have been more grand given the fact that Shehryar comes from such an affluent background and this was supposed to be a party he threw to impress everyone. Other than that, the story is heading towards an interesting direction with Moosa heading towards a completely new direction.

Reality Checks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was filled with reality checks for our main leads. Moosa and Zohra both realized that things could actually get much worse than they already were. Zohra always hated the fact that rich people thought that they owned her and others like her. When she got married to Shehryar she was expecting to leave this life behind and be someone’s wife. Right from the beginning, the writer made it clear that Zohra never accepted her life as an escort. She went along with whatever Ana Ji said because she loved her enough to not question her decisions but her conversations with Chanda made it clear that she yearned for respect more than anything else. Ironically enough, the only reason she refused to get married to Moosa was that she was sure that she would always be treated with disrespect since he came from a respectable family. She found out early on in her marriage that Shehryar never wanted a wife but he also needed someone in his life who could ‘please’ his friends and partners so that he could get what he wanted from them. He ‘bought’ Zohra so that he could own her and use her as he willed.

The scenes showing Zohra’s shock every time she realized that Shehryar was going to allow others to treat her like a commodity and did not want her to be the wife she was hoping she could be were shot well. Sarah Khan acted impressively in this episode and she looked stunning as well. The viewers found out today that while Zohra hated the way she was being treated, she was not going to be too rigid. She did confront Shehryar but she was also willing to make the changes he wanted her to make. Shehryar is the ‘sodagar’ Zohra accused Moosa of being! Is this her punishment for rejecting Moosa’s love?

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 13 Story Review – Reality Checks

Moosa found out in the beginning that Zohra had married someone else and I must say that his reaction was not shown as dramatically as I was thinking it might be shown. He accepted the situation, refused to blame Zohra (this part was refreshing and quite likable), and decided he needed to start a new life realizing that it was not going to be easy. Some of the scenes were dedicated to showing how much pain and hurt this loss had caused him, while others showed how eager he was to build a new life away from his family. His scenes were a pleasant mix of strength and vulnerabilities. I especially liked the part where he explained why Zohra was not to be blamed. Imran Ashraf always manages to bring out different emotional states of his characters beautifully on-screen with intensity every single time. Moosa ended up at Laila’s office and it seems that she might fall for him. Will Zohra actually start acting and that is where Moosa will meet her once again? I am waiting to find out.

Sakina and Esa

Sakina and Esa’s track is also headed towards a direction which most of us are dreading especially because now they are finally happy! Only Sakina could have been sharp enough to figure out that Moosa’s mother might not have told Sakina what Moosa expected from her. While Esa was desperately looking for his brother he met Sitara and that is when he found out something that might change everything! In the next episode, he will go after those men to find out who was with Moosa that day and that is one development I am eagerly waiting to watch! Will Esa find out the truth? What will his reaction be when he finds out that Sakina was with Moosa that day?!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 13 Story Review – Reality Checks

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was interesting throughout since every scene added something tangible to the story. It is interesting how everyone else can appreciate Moosa’s love for Zohra but she rejected him without giving it a second thought. The story is getting more intense and exciting with every passing episode.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 12 Story Review – Meaningful Conversations

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil showed the aftermath of the impactful developments last week. Just like every week, tonight’s episode also had meaningful conversations and convincing portrayals. Rashid Farooqui’s character was introduced this week along with other supporting characters – Moosa’s new ‘friends’ in the prison. Unlike last week, Moosa did not get a lot of screen time but the scenes dedicated to Moosa certainly left an impact. Imran Ashraf has truly outdone himself in Raqs-e-Bismil since he has an undeniable screen presence in every single scene. I find myself looking forward to these scenes solely because of his performance. Anoushay Abbasi and Mehmood Aslam stood out in supporting characters tonight more than any other. Zohra’s decision to accept the proposal and the nikkah at the end of the episode were the most important story developments in this episode. Like every other week, tonight’s episode also ended in such a way that the viewers will be eagerly looking forward to what is in store next. Some of the dialogues and conversations tonight were beautifully penned down since they flowed like poetry. The preview of the next episode was intelligently put together!

Moosa and Zohra

This episode showed Moosa’s life in the prison, once again his only concern being his family’s honor which is already at stake and somehow he is at a stage where he is not able to do much to save it himself! He is fully conscious of how everything he has done has affected his family’s honor but he does not have the kind of control over himself that he can live the life he was living once. The only reason he wanted the men he shot to change their statements was because he wanted his father to have a logical explanation to give when people questioned him. And obviously, once he is out of prison, everyone will find out that he is innocent and that way there would be less pressure on his family. Sarang (Rashid Farooqui) was introduced as a powerful figure in the prison and another person who has lost in love! Moosa’s scenes tonight were short but the dialogues were powerful throughout. He has already impressed his prison mates and his father remains seriously agitated by his behavior for obvious reasons.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 12 Story Review – Meaningful Conversations

The conversation Moosa’s father had with Sitara’s father was one of the many well-written conversations in this episode. This was the most sensible interaction between two heads of families we have seen in recent times. They are both sensible individuals and they understand what each one of them is going through. The aesthetically pleasing background made this scene visually pleasing as well.

Zohra and Sitara’s meeting in this episode was the perfect reflection of unconditional love. This meeting was surprisingly pleasing and it left an impact on Zohra. Sitara wasn’t there to tell Zohra to stay away from Moosa but to ask her to help release him. Sitara also knows now that the woman Moosa shot those men for wasn’t Zohra. Quite unexpectedly, Zohra decided to accept the proposal owing to the growing pressure after the legal expert shared how he felt about the situation. I am sure I am not the only one who is waiting to find out what Ana Ji whispered in Zohra’s ear.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 12 Story Review – Meaningful Conversations

Sakina and Esa

Tonight’s episode opened with Sakina telling her mother why she had changed all of a sudden. The dialogues were brilliant and Anoushay Abbasi’s performance was on point as well. Finally, we are getting to watch major character development here with Sakina seeing the world from a completely different perspective. Everything that happened to her served as a reality check. She has realized that she was running after an ‘ideal’ and did not realize that the man she was sacrificing everything for did not have the common sense to realize how his delay could have affected the woman he claimed to love. Esa could already see the change in her but the way she explained how she felt about the thappar now also served as an apology. All these conversations were penned down exceptionally well since they were short and meaningful. The focus was on Sakina throughout and the rest of the characters were merely there to make the viewers understand how she felt now and what she was going through. Sakina’s conversation with Kamran was another such scene that showed just how casually Kamran took the entire matter and what was going on in Sakina’s mind regarding him. I am glad that this track was given so much screen time.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode was one of the most well-written episodes of this drama. The dialogues were not too verbose but they were meaningful and intense. Raqs-e-Bismil continues to be an entertaining drama that is also visually pleasing. There are times when you feel as if there has been a little too much focus on making it visually pleasing but I honestly don’t mind that since the story flows smoothly and performances are always natural. Zara Sheikh will finally make an appearance in the next episode. Will Zohra go forward with the nikkah? The preview of the next episode suggested that Moosa will disappear after being released from jail. I am eagerly waiting to find out what happens next!

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 11 Story Review – Moosa Steals The Show

This was yet another engaging episode of Raqs-e-Bismil with some powerful performances and emotional scenes to its credit. The turn Sakina’s track took was predictable but this entire development was covered logically. The role Moosa played in this whole scenario was definitely the highlight of this episode since it was a turning point for Sakina. This was also the scene that yet again showed Imran Ashraf’s versatility and Anoushay Abbasi’s impressive acting skills. The director Wajahat Rauf deserves a lot of appreciation for ensuring that all the scenes are always short and to the point without compromising on the details and authenticity of the scenes. Hashim Nadeem’s characterizations stand out more than anything else since all these characters have some surprise or the other in store. Raqs-e-Bismil’s characters are as real as they get and the story has been compelling throughout. Moosa and Esa’s bond continues to be the most heart-warming aspect of the drama. Moosa is an unconventional hero – another feather in the cap of Imran Ashraf – who has nailed many such unusual lead roles!

Latest Developments and Their Impact

The opening scene of this episode set the mood for a power-packed episode. After weeks of watching Moosa sulking, it was great watching him bounce back because he knew he couldn’t ignore Sakina’s next move. This time around he intervened to save a sister and not to hold her responsible for breaking the rules set for her by the family. He instantly picked up that Sakina was planning something when he saw the driver taking those things to her friend’s house. Moosa might be lost in love but when it comes to things that matter, he is completely aware of his surroundings. It was shocking when he actually fired on those men but then it also made this scene even more impactful. He has always been shown as a fearless man who does not think twice before acting on his impulses. Imran Ashraf’s acting in this particular scene was simply outstanding; the anger in his eyes reflected a brother’s love for his sister more than anything else. He was there to protect Sakina this time around therefore this situation was completely different from the last time he barged in when Sakina was getting married. There have been quite a few instances when Moosa has reminded me of Adam, perhaps because I am finding it really difficult to forget Adam! This was another one of those times. Adam also rescued everyone around him who needed saving and tonight Moosa did the same for Sakina.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 11 Story Review – Moosa Steals The Show

Moosa and Sakina’s conversation afterward showed how much had changed in these few months. I was hoping that Moosa would ask Sakina to take her buddua back but he did not do that. However, everything he did clearly indicated that he understood her situation more now than ever. His love for Esa was another reason why he decided to keep this a secret. This scene was so different from the one we watched in the first episode and it showed just how far Moosa had come. His character development has been so convincing and a journey in its own right. The change in Sakina’s attitude, later on, was just as logical and it was obviously really pleasant watching Esa happy for a change. Esa has to be the most likable character in the drama and I am so glad about the turn Sakina’s character has taken. If Esa ever finds out the truth he will be heartbroken! This is another interesting element of this track since most of us wouldn’t want Esa to find out what exactly happened.

Moosa constantly keeps on telling Esa to take care of the family and to be the son he couldn’t be for them. He is completely aware of how he has let his father down and deep down feels guilty. Esa has always looked up to his brother therefore even though his father keeps on telling him to treat Moosa differently, he cannot do that. These brothers share such a special relationship even though their personalities are poles apart. Momin Saqib and Imran Ashraf’s superb performances and the on-screen chemistry both these actors share have definitely contributed to the beauty of this relationship.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 11 Story Review – Moosa Steals The Show

There was also interesting progress in Zohra’s track with Shehryar making the move he was planning to in the previous episode in order to put pressure on Zohra to accept his offer. Right now it is impossible to predict what turn this track will take. Will Zohra eventually decide to marry him or find another way out? Moosa continues to be the center of Zohra and Chanda’s discussions but even now it is impossible to tell how Zohra actually feels about him. There are times when it seems as if she is fascinated by his deewanapan. Sitara’s love for Moosa is just as intense as Moosa’s love for Zohra because even after finding out everything, she is not willing to let go. I am waiting to watch what impact Sitara’s meeting has on Zohra.

Final Remarks

This latest episode of Raqs-e-Bismil belonged to Moosa (Imran Ashraf) in particular and also to all the other characters and actors who made Moosa’s track extremely impactful. Moosa’s character and his journey truly stand out so far. This drama goes to show what a big difference suitable casting can make. There isn’t a single actor in Raqs-e-Bismil who has been typecast but at the same time, none of these actors are misfits. All of them fit perfectly into their respective characters which makes their tracks easy to connect to. It also goes to show the director’s vision and confidence in his skills. This was definitely one of the best episodes of Raqs-e-Bismil.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 10 Story Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil ended too soon and it is going to be really difficult waiting an entire week to find out how the latest developments in the story affect all the leading characters. The story is getting more interesting and intense with every passing episode. There was a great deal of progress in the story tonight with Zohra asking Moosa to make an impossible sacrifice and Sakina rushing things in order to prove a point! Malik Shehryar wants Zohra in his life at all costs and it seems as if she might have to get married to him after all. This particular track has been unpredictable and powerful throughout. Esa and Sakina got more screen time tonight, which was definitely another aspect of this episode that made it wholesome. The fact that their track is just as significant as that of Moosa and Zohra’s makes the story even more interesting. The impressive performances by all the actors continue to be one of the most appealing factors of this drama. Imran Ashraf is at the top of his game at the moment since he has managed to impress as Moosa after leaving a lasting impression as Adam in Mushk.

Moosa, Zohra and Shehryar

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil opened with the most emotional and beautifully scripted scene covering Zohra asking for a final sacrifice from Moosa. All of their scenes together so far have been so intense and every mulaqat is supposed to be the last one! This time around Zohra showed just how intelligent she was by asking Moosa to leave him in a way that he could not refuse. She kept her promise and did exactly what Moosa’s mother wanted her to. Even though Moosa knows that he cannot live without Zohra, he gave her a promise which would be really difficult to keep. Once again Moosa’s mad love for Zohra was the highlight of this episode. There were also instances when it seemed as if Zohra was fascinated by the intensity of Moosa’s love for her but she still chooses not to be with him because she feels that if she marries him everyone will always look down upon her. Zohra’s character keeps me guessing because it has always been so difficult to gauge her actual feelings for Moosa. Sometimes it seems as if she makes a conscious effort not to be drawn towards him and at other times it is as if she really does not even care how he feels about her. Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan performed exceptionally well tonight. Their on-screen chemistry and the intensity of their scenes together make their track the most powerful element of this drama.
Malik Shehryar made an offer that Ana Ji wanted to consider but she let Zohra make the final decision. Since Malik Shehryar wants Zohra in his life at any cost at all he is now going to create problems for Ana Ji so that she doesn’t have a choice and ends up pressurizing Zohra. I am waiting to watch what turn this track takes next since Moosa does not have the finances to help Ana Ji out of this situation.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 10 Story Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

Sakina, Esa and Kamran

The latest turn in Sakina and Kamran’s track was one that I already predicted in one of my previous reviews. It was well-executed and presented convincingly since these latest developments revealed a great deal about the characters involved. Sakina might be fierce but she is not too intelligent. Even though Kamran was hesitant to go forward with the plan, she was too eager to prove to Esa that she could depend on Kamran. Sakina is more stubborn and full of hate now than anything else. She was so confident about her decision that she did not even pause for a second to think that Kamran might let her down once again. Had she thought this plan through and wasn’t so eager to run away from the ‘hell’ she keeps on saying she is living in, she wouldn’t have taken such an extreme step. This turn in the story also showed that Kamran was not reliable at all and he wasn’t dependable enough to take anyone’s responsibility. The fact that he did not even try to get in touch with Sakina and left her at his friends’ mercy, who were clearly not reliable showed that Sakina did not choose the best life partner for herself. Apart from that, she also took her jewelry with her and thought nothing of it. The first time Sakina got caught it seemed as if her family members were the only ones who were unreasonable but tonight it was quite clear that Sakina is also equally irrational when it comes to having her own way.

Esa and Sakina’s interactions tonight showed that despite everything, Esa still loves Sakina and even trusts her. Tonight, the viewers have more reasons than ever to root for Esa since he isn’t just a thorough gentleman but he also has a big heart. Even after everything Sakina did to his brother whom he loves so much, he has forgiven Sakina because he loves her too much to hold a grudge. Now, Moosa will also redeem himself by not only rescuing Sakina but perhaps also taking the blame for whatever happens after he beats up these men. This time around Moosa will not judge Sakina but possibly understand why she is being so unreasonable. Most importantly, Sakina will have a reason to value Esa now, since he would never put her in the kind of situation she was in today because she trusted Kamran. I am looking forward to seeing a change in Sakina’s character in particular.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 10 Story Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil was entertaining and exciting. These 10 weeks have been pure entertainment and the brilliant performances have definitely set the bar really high! The story flows smoothly, apart from a few glitches here and there which can easily be ignored, Raqs-e-Bismil continues to impress. The best aspect of this drama is that it always gives you something to look forward to. The characters are easy to connect to and the pace has been steady too.

I can’t wait to watch what happens next! Did you watch tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil? Do share your thoughts about it.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 1 Story Review – Brilliant

After a long time, I was genuinely excited to watch the opening episode of a drama and unlike Dunk, Raqs-e-Bismil’s first episode was faultless. From the first scene to the last one, every scene was well-put-together and meaningful. Some of the issues highlighted in this first episode have been addressed in other dramas as well but overall the theme of the drama seems to be all-encompassing and not one which would be focusing on specific issues. The romantic element of the theme stood out more than any other which was pleasing. Other than that, the suffocating environment, rigid rules, and double standards were apparent from all the situations shown in this first episode. There were no ‘desperate’ attempts to get the viewers’ attention and most importantly it was a well-written and brilliantly executed first episode with mind-blowing performances. This first episode was also fast-paced which added to its entertainment value. Imran Ashraf and Mehmood Aslam’s performances stood out more than any other, Momin Saqib was truly impressive especially considering the fact that he has just started performing.

The Main Characters

It rarely ever happens that you warm up to all the characters introduced in the first episode instantly; I felt an instant connection to all these characters and had no trouble understanding them while I watched this opening episode. Not only were these characters written with the utmost clarity but the casting is perfect as well. Some of these characters are not new but this first episode promised that none of these characters are going to be black and white. Also, for a change, all the women shown in this first episode were supportive of each other in some way or the other. In this first episode, the viewers were introduced to Peer Qudrat Ullah Shah’s (Mehmood Aslam) household. He runs an astana, is the head of a Syed family, and has some set strict rules. Even family members who broke these rules in the past were killed. His older son Moosa (Imran Ashraf) takes his duty as the ‘janasheen’ really seriously and has beliefs perhaps more rigid than his father.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 1 Story Review – Brilliant

Moosa’s character already has my undivided attention because even with all his rage and the reputation he has, he is capable of loving others. He released Sakina (Anoushay Abbasi) after he was reminded of everything her mother had done for him. The conversation he had with Sakina before her nikkah was one of the best since it revealed how he had protected her over the years and there were times when she was actually proud of the fact that he was her brother. He went too far in protecting her this time around and ended up making even those decisions for her which she would have happily taken for herself. Moosa also has double standards since he wants to choose his wife himself but will never give Sakina the right to do the same. His definition of the perfect woman also said a great deal about his expectations from women. There are certain set rules in the family regarding matrimony therefore marrying out of the cast is out of the question.

Moosa’s younger brother Isa (Momin Saqib) however seemed to have a completely different perspective. Although he was the one who informed Moosa about the nikkah and supported him wholeheartedly, he was more than willing to marry Sakina. Isa seems like a more open-minded individual since instead of thinking that his father was marrying him off to someone who had eloped with her boyfriend; he was actually questioning his own credibility as a suitable life partner for Sakina. Isa is clearly head over heels in love with Sakina but she has no feelings for him at all. Sakina is a confident and educated young girl who had the guts to speak up even though she knew she would have to pay a big price for it. Even though she has been living in such a suffocating environment, she refuses to abide by the rules but at the same time is aware of the dangers associated with breaking the norms.

Raqs-e-Bismil Episode 1 Story Review – Brilliant

Sakina’s track was taken forward quickly with the nikkah taking place towards the end of this episode. She gave Moosa a ‘baddua’ that might haunt him in the future. Sakina and Isa are really interesting characters therefore I am looking forward to their track. It seems like Isa will be the one making the compromises and Sakina might fall in love with this ‘jahil’ eventually! I liked the mother’s (Nida Mumtaz) role since her loving and soft nature balanced out the rigid attitude of her older son and husband. Sakina’s mother also did whatever she could to save her daughter and there was no bitterness and resentment in her attitude even later on. The women have accepted the norms in the family but it seems like their experiences have not made them bitter. They have a bond with their children which enables them to have them do certain things the way they want. They obviously have little control over most of the situations.

Must-Watch

This first episode is a must-watch since it had everything it takes to grab the viewer’s attention. The overall feel of this episode was superb; the locations, camerawork, picture quality, and even the looks sported by all the actors. What I liked the most about this first episode was that it focused on the main characters, it wasn’t ‘over-crowded’ and the entire cast is well-suited for the roles they have been assigned. The way Imran Ashraf translated his character on screen was especially impressive; I liked how he intentionally kept his posture rather stiff while sitting down and when he was ‘on guard’ during the nikkah! Anoushay Abbasi nailed all the scenes; she has always been such a brilliant performer, I am so glad to see her playing such a character. Hashim Nadeem’s writing and Wajahat Rauf’s direction both were on point. I am eagerly looking forward to more!

Rapidfire with Syed Sajid Abbas!

On Pakistan Idol reviews’ thread, I was asked by the followers to interview the eliminated contestants. Considering the request of my dear supporters & with the help of social media, I came in contact with Syed Sajid Abbas of Pakistan Idol who was eliminated last week from the show, leaving all his fans sad & shocked.

So, I decided to have a little chat with him & let me just say, he was courteous & cordial enough (something which I heard from others as well who got in contact with him) to reply every time I left him a message. He also agreed to respond to my interview request & I’m more than happy to be sharing what he had to say to us all.

Here’s a short Q&A session I had with Syed Sajid Abbas, so there you go:

Q) What inspired you to come to Pakistan Idol?
A) A big platform & the international software.

Q) What do you think of the judges? Tell about them individually?
A) They are highly professional. Our nation’s idols & those who have more than 80 years of an experience.
– Hadiqa Kiyani is an extremely good singer.
– Ali Azmat is an internationally recognized singer and a star.
– Bushra Ansari is a legend and an expert listener of the music.

Q) Do the judges help the contestants with the song choices?
A) I can’t tell, because that’s a personal format of the show.

Q) Do you think deserving contestants got eliminated?
A) All the 13 contestants who made to the Gala Round of Pakistan Idol are deserving. One by one, every week a contestant has to go & in the end only one of us will win the title & the trophy, so it’s not like that.

Q) If not you, who do you think deserves to win the title?
A) My personal favorites are Ali Asad Zaidi and Asad Raza Sonu.

Q) Who according to you hasn’t been performing well?
A) Shahmir Aziz Quidwai & Zamad Baig. Both of them are great singers but they lose their confidence when they come on the stage to perform in front of the judges. If that doesn’t happen, they both will rock the floor.

Q) Who became your best friend(s) during Pakistan Idol?
A) Mohammad Shoaib.

Q) What’s your message to those who are voting?
A) Vote for your favorite

Q) What’s your message to your co-contestants who are still in the race?
A) Be strategic. As there are now 10 weeks left in the competition so only good strategy can highlight you favourably.

Q) How was your experience till your journey?
A) I experienced life in Pakistan Idol.

Q) Please tell us about the voting system, is it fair?
A) Yes, it is totally fair.

Q) People say ‘the only thing missing from the reality shows is the reality’, is it true?
A) No, that is not true at all. It’s all real.

Tell us about your co-contestants in a single word?
(Could be about your feelings or their personalities)

Mohammad Shoaib: Crystal clear.
Waqas Ali Vicky: Sensible.
Waqas Ali: Sensitive.
Abdul Rafay Khan: Kiddo.
Zamad Baig: Iconic.
Mehwish Maqsood: Full of energy.
Shahmir Aziz Quidwai: Rocker.
Asad Raza Sonu: Excellent character.
Ali Asad Zaidi: True artist.
Kashif Ali: Humorous & full of life.
Rosemary: True to herself.
Sana Zulfikaar: Always in some sort of a character

In the end, a message to all your fans please?
“I got eliminated from the show, not from the music. So, don’t be upset & just wait & watch. I love you all so much.” – Sajid.

That’s it. Short & sweet, to-the-point & just what we wanted to hear from him.
I wish him luck, success & a brighter future.
Leave your message for him in the comments as I’ll be sending him a link to this post. :)
