Feminism is a social movement which advocates economic, and political equality of the sexes.  It incorporates the position that societies prioritize the male point of view and that women are treated unfairly within those societies. Efforts to change that include fighting gender stereotypes and seeking to establish educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to those for men.

Nowadays, there is huge debate on feminism in Pakistan some people believe in it while as others completely oppose it.

Similarly, actress Saba Qamar jumped in this debate and talked about her views on feminism and said, “I don’t believe in feminism I believe in gender equality.”

To clarify her point she further added, “As much as women get hurt in the same way men are hurt too. I don’t understand this thing if there is one brother of five sisters then how is he responsible for his sister’s wedding, and other responsibilities?”

“But in our society, especially in Pakistan if one is earning then ten people are depending on him. This is the injustice that people depend on that one person who has a job and complain to him all the time,” she added.

Well, it looks like Saba Qamar has twisted the definition of feminism and called it ‘gender equality’. People were confused about her statement that she said she believes in gender equality which is the exact meaning of feminism.

Leading newspaper in India “Times Of India” interviewed Fawad Khan in detail. This interview unlike many he has given before was more of a personal nature. Here is the whole interview:

You are a big star in Pakistan. How did your career as an entertainer begin?

I was born in Karachi, where my father used to work in the sales department of a pharmaceutical company. The nature of his job required him to travel, so we moved to Athens, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Riyadh and then went to Manchester during the Gulf War, moving back to Lahore closer to my father’s retirement. He was not keeping well owing to a cardiac condition, as a result he was advised to not take tension any more and so he took an early retirement. I was 13 then. He also wanted to start something of his own. My mother was a housewife. I wanted to do animation, so for lack of available career counselling, took up Bachelor’s in Computer Science, but managed to get only C grades. During college, I didn’t really have an interest in what I was studying. It was during college that I first stumbled into forming an underground band where I was the lead vocalist. I had always had an ear for music, but nothing more than that. And that good ear of mine led me to learn and play a lot of instruments while in college. Our band was called EP and our first album Irtiqa meant evolution. We started playing professionally and did almost 250 shows. Our music was largely progressive metal and with the money I made, I managed to put together a recording studio. I dabbled in and out of television. I had fallen in love with my wife Sadaf when I was 17 and by now was dying to get married to her. I came from a conservative background. Also, Sadaf felt that her father would not buy into my just doing music or television as that was too risky, so just to con him, I took up a 9-to-5 job so that I could marry her. I left it soon thereafter, again did television and became one of Pakistan’s most popular faces with serials Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai. In 2012, I got my first film role in Khuda Kay Liye.

Talk about your wife Sadaf?

I met her when I was 17. I met her through chatting online, with noisy dial-up modems. She was in the girls’ branch of my school which was famous for all the pretty girls studying there. We thereafter met at our tuition classes and I, being quite a traditionalist, proposed to her within a week of my meeting her. She went into a university and I could not get admission there. And in fact, I feel that one of the main reasons for me not to get grades in college was that I spent half the years of my college years in her college, so much so that her chaukidars thought I was from her college. Post college, we got married. She has recently started her own clothing line called ‘Silk by Fawad Khan’ that is doing pretty well and I take pride in her work.

How did you get diabetes?

It is a kind of an immune disorder. I had an accident when I was 17, due to which I landed up with a virus infection which had my immune system confused. The virus attacked my pancreas and destroyed its capability of making insulin. I have type 1 diabetes, which only 1 out of 10 people have and it requires a very different kind of care, where anything that you eat can affect your blood sugar levels. Coincidentally, I was in the hospital after the accident when a common friend asked me, ‘You know who is asking about you?’ And that is where it actually started between us.

Talk about your father?

My father is pretty much a self-made man and I am proud of that. He was born in Patiala and crossed the border from India to Pakistan when he was four. My mother’s family also comes from Lucknow. My father’s mother died when he was six years old and his was a large family, but spent his childhood shuffling between relatives, but never really accepting help from anyone. My father was the youngest, but he studied, worked and eventually did his MBA, and then started working. So he has a lot of expectations from me to do something in my life. He was very dominating to the extent of being a bit regimental. I am very close to him even though I resented his strictness when I was young, as I was rebellious at that time. I would wonder why he couldn’t understand what I wanted to do, as I was too young to understand where he was coming from. I remember when I had that accident at 17, my dad actually had a breakdown moment in the hospital as the accident was going to change my life in many ways. Even though he was just a small agricultural farmer, he told my mother, ‘If, after this, he does not want to do anything, it’s fine with me. If he does not want to study any more it is perfectly fine.’ That was least expected from my dad and my mom became the hero telling him, ‘Don’t teach him that as he will never grow up to be a fighter. This is a defining moment in his life and you need to let him fight.’ While it did it not hit me while I was at the hospital, when we were driving back from Islamabad to Lahore, it was raining in the car and my two sisters were sleeping next to me at the back and it struck me for the first time that there were things from there on that I would not be able to do in my life and sort of felt disabled. I did not let anyone know how I was feeling in the car, but I broke down inside. Today, my father does not keep well, but I know that he is proud of me. And while he doesn’t need anything from me, I try and do whatever I can for him.

She also said, ” I am very religious and believe in some energy that is there to protect me. My mother is my best friend and I love her the most in the world. She also said that she really enjoys Ali Zafar’s company. “Ali is a charmer and people love him as he is a good human being. He is a younger version of Johnny Depp. He is fun-loving and has a lovely wife Ayesha, that puts a lot of charm in his life and persona. I love Ayesha. Fawad Khan is very open about his weaknesses as well strengths, he has always made it very clear that he is not high maintenance and he also finds it very difficult to dance. In his recent interview with Dawn News, he said “I am considering hiring a dance tutor to help me get over my two left feet. Right now, I don’t think I’d be able to pull off an all-out item number with class. It’s not something that makes me feel insecure about my future — I believe that every actor has his or her own weak points and strong points.”

He also talked about the things that Badar Khalil said about him in her interview with Dawn News, he said, “People tend to fabricate stories and I can only assume that perhaps Badar Khalil heard something wrong about me and believed it to be true. I wish she had discussed her problems with me rather than declare them to the public. I am extremely respectful of our senior actors and I think she took offence due to some misunderstanding,”

When asked that did he have a stylist for himself only on the set, he said, “No, even my current haircut was done on set. My hair was getting untidy so some guy I didn’t know was called in and he just cut my hair,” Fawad laughs. “I am not finicky at all regarding my appearance. If tomorrow I decide to take on a personal stylist it will only be because I need to maintain a certain appearance for a role.”

He also said that he can try to stay out of controversies all he wants but there will always be people who will always talk about him behind his back. He said, “I could go hoarse clarifying myself but there will always be people who spread rumors and want to believe the worst about you. I once heard that I had allegedly fallen out with Momina Duraid and walked out of her upcoming serial Bin Roye Aansu. In actuality, Momina and I remain cordial and I couldn’t sign up for the project because I wasn’t feeling well.”

It was also stated in the interview that the last month was very tough for Fawad Khan because his diabetic condition got worse. He said, “With time, I am learning how to balance my workload with my condition but I certainly can’t take on as much work as other actors probably can.”

“I am currently contemplating a new externally administered insulin-pumping therapy with my endocrinologist. I like to discuss my condition publicly because if I, with this disability, am able to fulfill some of my ambitions, so can other diabetics.” said Fawad Khan.

Fawad Khan said that he will be working in Pakistani movies in the future. He is currently involved in working in three Pakistani movies but he cannot share the details right now.

Humsafar has become a success story around the globe. Colors UK is the next station for the blockbuster show Humsafar which starred Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan as the leads. After the success of hit Pakistani drama ‘Humsafar’ on the UK channel Rishtey, its sister station (Colors UK) will be re-running the popular series in a weekday daily slot from next week.

Currently, the show is airing for the third time on the Pakistani channel Hum TV, and even now people are glued to their screens to watch the blockbuster show. Humsafar has not single handedly gained fame internationally but also opened the doors for many other Pakistani shows to reach international audiences. Shows like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Mata-e-Jaan, Mera Naseeb, Malaal have aired on channels like Rishtey and MCB-Bollywood.

Last year, when Rishtey broadcasted the Humsafar series, it was one of the biggest success stories for the channel bringing in one of the biggest ever ratings to Rishtey. It attracted over 100,000 viewers on the channel when it was on air. According to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia, ‘Humsafar’ – an import from Hum TV, pulled in 105,700 viewers – the biggest ever audience for the show. It peaked further to 145,400.

Colors wants to broadcast the show there and earn the ratings before the owner of the series, Hum TV itself launches in the UK market. There is good news for all UK viewers as Hum TV will be launching its channel in the UK and it would be available on the Sky Digital platform from mid-February.

The 23-episodes of ‘Humsafar’ will air Monday to Thursday at 6 pm on Colors UK from Monday 27th January, 2014.

Singer Humera Arshad married moodel Ahmad Butt around 12 years ago. Together they have a 7 year old son Ali Muttaqeen. The couple has recently made headlines because of their divorce case. Their issues have been in the public eye for the last two years, ever since they decided to initiate divorce proceedings in August 2016, after years of turmoil.

Humera and Ahmed have publicly accused each other of fraud among other things. After which, their case was taken to court. Nonetheless, the two decided to set aside their differences and agreed to live together again, after a brief separation. The troubled couple held a press conference in November 2016 to make the official announcement.

News regarding their divorce has resurfaced and the singer has rejected any such speculations.

“Although there have been rumours regarding my divorce in the past, I am trying my best to secure my marriage now.”

She continued,

“There are still some elements, including my family, the media among other things, which are disturbing my marriage, we are still together. I have noticed news regarding my divorce being aired on certain TV channels and published in media and it really upsets me to see this.”

Humera confirmed that she is happy with Ahmad and the two are busy working on upcoming projects. She also stated that she has no plans of going back to court as she is sure that nothing will come between the two now.

Humera Arshad and Ahmed Butt have been one of the most controversial couples in the industry. They fought on and off with things always getting ugly to the point of divorces and custody battles. Again Humera has accused Ahmed of attacking her house and beating her family. On the other hand Ahmed says he went to see his son and Humera’s brother attacked him.

Now Ahmed and Humaira’s brother along with two more people from both sides are in police custody. Humaira said that Ahmed has agreed to leave the child to her if she signs her house to him but now he wants both the child and her money. She further said she will not give anything to him. On the other side Ahmed is denying all allegations.

What one can wish is that both parties come to an agreement since the life of a child is involved!

In the last episode the most inspirational character is that of Saba Hamid as when she tells her son Mohid that he physically abused his wife and also pushed her to leave the house in the middle of the night. Whereas it is the responsibility of a husband to protect his wife rather than humiliating her.

The last episode of Dillagi has left such a strong impact on the audience that everyone want to know what exactly will be the ending of the drama serial Dillagi. Whether the director and writer of the story will kill Mohid or both the hero Mohid and heroine Anmol will finally meet each other?

In a statement Humayun shared that they have made two endings of the play and most probably he will share them with audience so that they can tell what ending they want. But on the other hand he also says it seems tough as on hand he believes that Mohid should die as Afzal died in Pyaarey Afzal but he also thinks that majority of the audience want the hero and heroine to meet. So let’s see what the director and writer decides.

Mera Pass Tum Ho superstar Humayun Saeed has been winning the hearts of many with his tremendous acting on-screen. He gained massive popularity for playing romantic roles in Pakistani films. 

Humayun worked in a television serial after a long time, and like, always became the talk of the town. People are loving him even more for playing the role of Danish in the most-watched drama.
