The topic “Women Empowerment” and “girl power” is a burning issue all over the world. “Women empowerment” and “women equality with men” is a universal issue. Pakistan, unfortunately, is a lot behind when it comes to this. We still live in a (mostly) patriarchal society where there are certain things that a woman just cannot do without raising questioning and sometimes even accusing eyes in her direction.

Take one simple thing such as, riding a bike. Sure, you see every now and then a bold girl, defying the norms of society, riding a bike and not letting her gender stop her from being able to do so but you also have to admit that nearly everyone in her vicinity will stop to talk about it either out loud or in hushed whispers; if not then then will at least look at her wide eyed, like she is from another planet. Some might even look at her admirably, but still do a double take. Why? Because this is, unfortunately, not a normal occurrence in our society.

And thus, it was refreshing and heartwarming to watch when Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar encouraged this notion on their Ramazan transmission, Geo Khelo Pakistan. This happened during a segment of the show when a girl was invited by Shoaib Akhtar to spin the wheel and win a prize. The girl when asked what she’d like to have, requested for a bike. Upon inquiring who she wants to get the bike for, the girl informed that she’d want one for herself and she’d love riding it. Promoting gender equality, she further said that if guys can ride a bike, so can girls. The audience present in the hall appreciated this statement and showed their appreciation with a huge round of applause for her.

Wasim Akram, being the supportive guy that he is, only encouraged her further by gifting her a helmet along with the bike and saying that she should ride the bike all she wants.

The flight was scheduled on Sunday afternoon and till Saturday evening I wasn’t sure because I didn’t receive my visa.”

“What happened was, I was recording my Eid show on Saturday with Bushra Ansari, Behroze Sabzwari and Javed Sheikh and before the recording I asked Behroze Sabzwari to pray that I may get my visa. The moment I finished the recording and checked my phone and the latest message I received was that I have finally got my visa and today I’m here Allhamdulillah”, added Waseem Badami.

In the recent interview, Waseem Badami revealed the details about the last days of late famous television anchor Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain. Waseem Badami said, “I have a lot of messages and voice notes of Aamir Bhai, they are still saved with me. I also remember my last call with him. I called him fifteen days before his death. We talked in detail, I would share a few things with you. I was in London and he was dealing with that last controversy. He was already in a vulnerable state, he was getting a lot of backlash from all sides”. He further added , “a lot of anchors tried to ask me about him but I didn’t add anything in the controversy, instead, I called him, he was completely shattered, I never found him this much weaker in life, he was crying like a child, I assured him of help, I said, ‘Aamir Bhai, everything will be fine’. My last message to him was, ‘please pick the phone up’ but he didn’t. I also called our mutual friend Minhaj to find where Dr. Aamir Liaquat is, we could not meet him we could not trace him because he changed all his numbers, no one knew about his whereabouts. Umer Shah was a young Pakistani social media and mainstream celebrity whose untimely and sudden death has deeply saddened fans. Waseem Badami recently appeared on Good Morning Pakistan, where he shared the cause of Umer Shah’s death as explained by doctors.

Talking about the medical history, Waseem Badami said, “I asked the doctor what exactly happened to him. The doctor said that he had a history of seizures, which shocked me because I used to be with him most of the time and never witnessed it. The doctor further explained that he wasn’t sure about the intensity of the seizures. He also said that Umer had vomited, and some of it entered his lungs, which cut off his oxygen supply and led to cardiac arrest. He died within minutes. The doctors were disappointed, saying that if they had gotten just a few more minutes, they could have saved him — but it was his time to go.”

He further added, “When I talked to Danial, what I saw was so tragic. Umer was wrapped in a coffin. I saw the whole scene. Abu Bakar was silent, and then he started crying because he knew that if Waseem Bhai was on the call, something terrible had already happened. They told Umer’s mother after five hours”

Waseem also shared, “Danial told me that Umer was perfectly fine earlier. He was playing with other kids and enjoying the Pakistan vs. India match. There was nothing unusual we could notice before it happened late at night. It was just a matter of minutes.” Here is the link to the video:

Exactly 25 days ago I talked to Aamir Liaquat and that was my last chat with him. He could not recover himself from betrayal. He disconnected himself from everything which led to some serious health and mental issues.”

“Sense of rejection and denial was another major flaw in his life. The different phases in his life and character affected him badly. In my opinion, if we do not recognize and correct the distortion or a flaw in a person, then such things led to destruction and we are left empty handed”, added Waseem Badami.

He is known for his hard-hitting questions and sensational discussions on 11th Hour, for which he is currently making headlines.

But I did one thing: when he rejoined the interview, I had to decide whether to go for sensational journalism or ethical journalism.
