I recently found out a news on a social media that the channel would soon come up with a Pakistani Version of Grey’s Anatomy, which is an American Television medical drama been aired on ABC Channel. Making it easier to understand to the people who never followed any of the nine series of this American drama, the story is somewhat similar to the Indian Sanjivini and Dil Mil Gaye, where the fictional lives of the surgical intern and residents have been showed. It is a journey of how newly graduates turn into a professional doctors.
If you go back to the eras of 90’s, you will find Marina Khan’s Dhoop Kinaare which was based on same storyline too. Now that if the news is true, Hum TV has again all the chance to increase its ratings like anything as the cast which has been shown in the poster, comprises of celebrities who together can break the TRPs of any popular show. Pakistani dramas have seen many ups and downs in the past few years. It would be safe to say that for the past year in particular, the quality of these dramas on the leading channels went from bad to worse. Those serious viewers who watched Pakistani dramas for their quality content had literally given up on them altogether. Green TV Dramas have proved to be a game changer in more ways than one. Such dramas were truly the need of the hour especially for viewers who are sick and tired of substandard content getting the hype it does not deserve. Before I talk about Green TV dramas, I would like to share my thoughts about the state of Pakistani dramas on the leading entertainment channels in recent times.
Only a few months back Hum in particular was not afraid of experimenting every now and then but after Parizaad, the viewers were left waiting for a drama on the channel that would blow them away. ARY Digital has for some time started banking heavily on commercialism. Every now and then they aired a quality drama but most of their dramas have been over-stretched and commercial even when they offered novelty. Geo Entertainment is a completely different story because even though they air some of the trashiest dramas, these dramas get ratings like no other! Apart from Jo Bichar Gaye, I don’t remember the last time I watched a drama offering quality entertainment on Geo. Unfortunately, Jo Bichar Gaye did not get a lot of views. Therefore, I am assuming that Geo has a certain ‘fanbase’ which is partially responsible for ruining the quality of Pakistani dramas.
Interestingly enough, in the present time, Express Entertainment was the only channel that offered variety and quality. Dramas such as Guru and Meher Mah in particular raised my hopes. Both these dramas are refreshing and thoroughly entertaining. I had my eyes set on Express Entertainment when Green TV launched only last week and changed my perspective about Pakistani dramas altogether.
Green TV dramas have been much more than just refreshing, they have been groundbreaking. While all the other channels and producers were scared to experiment because of the fear of not getting ratings, Green TV took the bold and necessary initiative to experiment like it has never been done before. Ever since the channel went on air, they have been airing dramas that are entirely different from each other every single day and in all the slots assigned to these dramas. Only a few days back, the viewers who were wondering if they will ever get to watch another drama such as Parizaad again were given the beautiful gift of dramas such as Kabli Pulao, Jeevan Nagar, Idiot, Shanaas, 22 Qadam, Jindo, and the list goes on.
Only in 1 week, Green TV proved that there are so many genres which Pakistani writers and directors can successfully experiment with. The best thing is that this channel has something for everyone. A few weeks back it was unimaginable for the viewers to even think that they will get to watch a Pakistani drama which was sci-fi. Nauroz definitely falls into that category. Although the Siyah Series isn’t picture-perfect it is an initiative that would open more avenues for horror series.
Each one of the dramas that have aired on Green TV does not only have a different story altogether but this channel is also redefining the term ‘hero’ one drama at a time! Haji Mushtaq is an elderly person who you would never see as the only main protagonist in a Pakistani drama. Even if in the past such a character has been shown as a prominent character, it has never been the face of the drama. Usually, such prominent characters are ‘assisted’ by heroes who are conventional and who would ‘sell’ the story. Parizaad and Ranjha Ranjha Kardi are the only exceptions I can think of right now. Even a drama such as Dumpukht had a side hero.
Jeevan Nagar is another such drama with no young and upcoming actors but all talented and seasoned actors who the producers trusted had enough substance to keep the viewers hooked. Jindo has a female protagonist like no other. Not a single one of the dramas I have watched on Green TV even remotely bank on the bechari aurat scenario which had become a staple of Pakistani dramas. So much so that writers were forced to add such tracks to each story.
Just a few days back, Nida Yasir and Yasir Nawaz accredited Ertugrul’s success to family politics! Their statement summed up the mindset that goes behind making Pakistani dramas. The producers are certain that the success of their dramas rests entirely on showing women who are constantly involved in plotting and planning against each other. These situations are so common in Pakistani dramas that any drama without them alone is refreshing for viewers who do not tune into these dramas to watch women belittle each other. Many of the producers and writers have justified their done-to-death stories by saying that viewers want to watch these plots more than anything else. Even though dramas such as Parizaad and Ranjha Ranjha Kardi also got an unprecedented following but that never changed the producers’ perspective.
Green TV has single-handedly proved that experimenting is an option and when the producers give writers a free hand they can write stories that entertain and provide the newness which was gradually dying. Some of the dramas are of course ‘lacking’ in some aspects but even with those flaws, they are much better than the mediocre dramas which are continuously being aired on other channels. Also, Green offers the kind of variety which was seriously lacking. Some of the dramas can also be easily termed as family dramas, another aspect of Pakistani dramas which was gradually becoming a thing of the past. While the execution is lacking in some cases, Green TV’s dramas have opened a whole new world for drama buffs and they have only started their transmission, there is much more to look forward to.

Time to time new colour trends emerge. There is some sort of a fashion and every one wears something related to that color. As in winters dark color trend emerges and people start wearing blacks and blues and dark purple shades. I will be discussing the color green in this article. Many people get bored of the trends of colors. It is natural if we see everyone wearing the same color we usually start getting tired of it so at that moment green is color that breaks the trend and makes you look fashionable at the same time. One thing I always feel when I see green is the feeling of walking on wet grass. It actually gives me a soothing feel. Green is a color of vigor and courage and at the same time peace and relaxation.
Apart from this green is our flag’s color so we must be in love with it. It has so many shades including; parrot green, bottle green, olive green, apple green, sea green, lime and so many others. A green bag can actually make you stand out in a crowd. It’s the color of freshness and coolness. The biggest advantage of this color is that it suits almost every skin tone. This is what makes it popular. It is a very pretty color which goes with fairer skin tones and also with tanner skin tones. It is a great combination with white, beige, peach, black, navy and many other colors. I will definitely recommend it to every one of you. Try wearing it and see the change.
It is very important to choose the perfect shade of green. Try to watch yourself in all shades and see what suits you best. Green can be worn as a plain color or you can add different shades in one dress. Apart from this you can add more feminine items such as polka dots, ballet flats and pink shaded mufflers. What I do is in winter specially, I have a bright green colored long coat, I match it up with blue skinny jeans and a bronze sweatshirt and I m ready to go. Sometimes I open up my hair and sometimes I tie them up. Another advice is that if you have dark colored hair use lighter shades of green and if you have lighter hair then use darker shades of green. Green and red is not a good combination for me atleast.
Dark green can be blended with other shades of green like pastel green and mint green. This creates a very different yet stylish look but this does not mean that one should wear everything colored green. It will look odd. It is necessary to break the colors you wear. Contrasts are more in these days so try to wear contrasting colors. A pastel green jean looks very trendy and graceful with dark green top or printed shade in green Bag. To give trendier look you can use mint green accessories, like watch, bracelets, bangles, earrings, rings and other much more. You can also use mint green clutch and nail paint for chunky look.
Mint green is very lovely color and has many beautiful contrasts. You can use mint green accessories with golden, silver, pink and lemon shaded dresses. This will certainly look fabulous. Especially in summers its very perfect and fantastic color to glamorize your look. Mint green is very energizing and different from others. This is a great shade for almost any occasion. Either you wear in morning or evening. Not only in parties but also can wear for causal purposes. However, be careful to wear this color in small portion, otherwise you risk turning from a princess in to a frog. Last but not least, if you are bored with black or other dark colors and want to bring change then spinach green can be the best option to go. This was what I knew about green. The new Pakistani entertainment channel Green has officially started its test transmission. Today, on 10th July 2023, Green aired the transmission on the cable network. Jeevan Nagar was aired tonight at 9:00 Pm. The drama Jeevan Nagar has a stellar cast including Kashif Mehmood, Sohail Ahmed and Rabia Butt.
The story of the drama Jeevan Nagar is penned by Awais Ahmed. The drama is directed by ace Pakistani television director Kashif Nisar who has directed Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Lashkara, Dar Si Jati Hai Sila and others. The talented actor and theater director Omair rana was recently spotted in an interview with “Fuchsia Magazine”.
Omair Rana talking about his greatest challenge mentioned that “Greatest challenge for me has been to discover myself, that who actually I am. Now after a long time I can identify and I’m little more comfortable with who I am.”
“I have been very self conscious and very under confident. I needed approval from the people every time. I adapted self realization after a long time. I was a quiet child and later I realized that I have a great wit”, added Omair Rana.
Irfan Junejo is one of Pakistan’s most popular YouTubers, with a following of 1.11 million subscribers on YouTube. His claim to fame vlog was the vlog of Northern Pakistan. Grease – The Musical is the first licensed musical play to be performed in Pakistan. It is based on the adaption of the classical 1978 movie which had John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as the leads. Grease has been in news for quite some time; it started at the Art Council on January 16 and was declared a hit immediately. It ended on 2nd February after being performed at the Art council for almost 17 days. The play took three months of vigorous training and more than 100 rehearsal sessions for the actors to perfect the play, and their hardwork has definitely paid off. It starred Ahmed Ali as Danny Zuko, Ayesha Omar as Sandy, Mustafa Changezi as Kenickie and Sanam Saeed as Rizzo, along with an ensemble cast of familiar faces and promising newcomers. In the play, Ahmed Ali was paired up with Ayesha Omer and Sanam Saeed with Mustafa Changezi.
The play introduces the 50’s era to the audiences. The costumes, songs, setup all had been designed keeping this era in mind. The play did not have any particular message, it solely depicted the essence of being a teenager in the 50’s. Its success proved that teenage love is still an ever green concept.
The director Nida Butt has given her 100% to this play. From the choreography to the music, every little detail was well thought out and executed. All the actors also did a brilliant job especially Sanam Saeed who portrayed Rizzo’s aggressive character to perfection. She was extraordinary throughout the play and the actress had easily picked up the accent and gesture required to play the role.
All the performances were top notch, but one song that stood out from the rest was Freddy my Love which was sung by Sara Haider. This song touched the audiences’ hearts and was appreciated and applauded by all. The lead pair might be Sandy and Danny, but the limelight was stolen by Rizzo and Kenickie as their chemistry sizzled on stage because of their magnetic and realistic connection.

Danny Zuko AKA Ahmed Ali Butt
How did you get in to the character of Danny?
I watched the movie a couple of times, mainly for the relationships the characters have with other characters. I started acquiring the traits from him over the months. The walk and the laugh — I have done them so much that they’re my thing now. I don’t even remember how I used to laugh!
Travolta and Newton-John had a lot of chemistry between them. What is your chemistry like with Ayesha Omar?
Ayesha is amazing to work with. She is very humble, very down to earth. When I heard Ayesha was playing Sandy, I was a little intimidated, but she eliminated the feeling. She is awesome to work with.
What is your relationship like with Mustafa? Do you think he’d make a better Danny and you a better Kenickie?
I have taken some inspiration from Mustafa actually, he doesn’t know that (he laughs). He is quite the ladies’ man and the laugh he does is very similar to Danny’s — I stole that from him. Mustafa could have been a good Danny. Danny has a slight feminine touch to him, and Kenickie is a bad-ass. Had we been asked to and given time, we could have swapped roles. They’re both similar; they’re both the leader of the pack with a smooth style. In real life, Mustafa can probably relate to Danny more than I can.
How do you feel about being part of this musical?
I was a musician before I started acting. This is where music and acting come together — in musical theatre, and I found it to be my true calling. I am honoured and humbled; Grease is an opportunity to make history. My father is a huge Grease fan. After the first play I did, he was very encouraging and said, “Good, you should go into acting. There is a play Grease, you should ask the producers to do that.” I did seven plays and he would say the same thing every time. When I got this role, I went up to him and told him I am doing a play, he asked which one. When I said Grease, the smile on his face was amazing. I hadn’t seen it for years!
Kenickie AKA Mustafa Changezi
How does it feel to play Kenickie? How did you get into character?
It’s pretty cool. I don’t really have a tough guy persona, so to pull someone like Kenickie off was a lot of fun. It wasn’t too hard to get into character; I watched the movie a couple of times and tried to act like the guy throughout.
What was it like to be paired up with Sanam Saeed?
Sanam is one of the strongest actors in the industry. Initially, when I heard I was paired with her, I was like ‘Fine. It’s cool’. Then, when I saw her act, I saw how confident she is and that intimidated me a little, but it’s been fun. She’s a genuine sweetheart.
Do you and Ahmed have the kind of relationship on stage that Danny and Kenickie did?
I love the guy. Initially, I didn’t know who he was, and I really doubted the fact that he can do justice to the benchmark Travolta set. Then I met Ahmed. He is so committed and dedicated to his role and nobody but him deserved to have it. He and I are the closest amongst the cast.
Sandy AKA Ayesha Omer
How does it feel to be a part of Grease?
My career just took a very busy turn. Every day, there is some offer coming in after the success of Coke Studio [season 6], but I just can’t take up anything. It’s like letting go off something you have worked for, for ten years. However, getting away from the petty TV mind-set was very refreshing for me mentally. We are all like family here. It’s team work. It’s very exciting and it’s been a wonderful experience. And I couldn’t have asked for a better co-star than Danny.
Do you have a message for the readers and audience?
It’s the first licensed show and we have put in a lot of effort. The audience needs to know it’s very difficult to put something like this together. People should come and look at it with an open mind and encourage the newcomers.
Rizzo AKA Sanam Saeed
How does it feel to be Rizzo?
I wouldn’t have picked any other character to play. It’s a role I’ve always wanted to do. With the support and the kind of chemistry we all have, each one has done justice to their role. Ahmed, Ayesha and I are the eldest in the cast and the most experienced, so we automatically had some sort of hold over the kids — they’ll kill me for saying this — and that kind of helps the character, considering how Rizzo is and how she bosses around her minions. It’s fun, it’s perfect, everything has worked out really well.
This play was an hit through and through, it can be called a pure masterpiece without any exaggeration!

Why Grease?
Everybody loves Grease. I didn’t do it earlier because I wasn’t ever sure how to go about it. About six to seven years ago, I wouldn’t have known how to actually stage something like this, but now we have figured out how to make it work.
It’s the first licensed musical play in Pakistan. How do you feel about that?
We were quite thrilled; it’s a great show of confidence by theatrical rights worldwide to have awarded the license to us. It took me weeks to find the right people to contact, but eventually, we got the rights. It’s the socially responsible and legally correct way to stage Western musicals if we are going to be using their titles.
How did you manage to translate the quintessential American nature of the story for a Pakistani stage?
Grease is a classic, so you can’t really mess with it or tweak it or localise it. It would steal the essence of what Grease is. We wouldn’t do that.
Do you think the actors are going to live up to the expected standards? John Travolta was one of the most charismatic leading men in Hollywood. Is Ahmed doing justice to the role of Danny Zuko?
The talent this time is splendid. We do understand that the characters are so well-known from the movie that we would not want to move too far away from the characterisation of those, but naturally, every actor brings their own flavour. It’s very important that you do that and make it your own, while staying true to the spirit of the character.
How did you manage the costumes and sets?
The costumes are colourful — they’re young and they’re fun. The designers have done a great job bringing back the 50s era. We have managed to create five sets and the integral part is to be able to shift from one scene to another in an instant. I started working on these sets in June last year; it’s been a real thorn in our side. We want people to pay attention to what we have done to the sets and not just the songs and dances.
Some people are complaining that Rs2,000 per ticket is too steep. What do you have to say in response to that?
If you look at theatre around the world, it is not a cheap hobby. You’re paying a couple of hundred dollars for the best shows. We’ll be putting up the best musical show that Pakistan has ever seen. I think they got off easy.

The film made a new record of opening weekend collection by any film in Pakistan, by collecting more than 3.2 crore (32 million) Pakistani rupees in just two days. The film is still going strong and so far has collected 8.85 crore (88 million) rupees in just one week. As per the news, it is a typical Bollywood comedy masaala film, and its success has yet again proved the demand, such content holds on Pakistani box office.
The opening (two days) business of Welcome Back, is more than the total collection of two Pakistani films Moor and Shah released on the 14th August 2015. In the 20 days of run so far both films have earned nearly 3 crore (30 million) where Moor has earned nearly 2 crore (20 million) and Shah has earned nearly 1 crore (1 million).
Bollywood films are extremely popular in Pakistan and normally every Bollywood film has a big opening weekend, but few carry on with the success of opening weekend. Even if not very successful a Bollywood film easily covers more than 1-2 crore, which is a handsome amount on Pakistani box office. There are less than 120 cinemas in Pakistan which play Bollywood films. Bollywood films are screened in the provinces of Sindh, Punjab and Federal capital of Islamabad. In the other two provinces Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa normally only Pashto films are released, due to limited demand of Bollywood and Pakistani Urdu films.
The highest grosser film in the Pakistani box office history is also a Bollywood film Dhoom 3 released in 2013, which earned more than 25 crores (250 million).

Its the wedding season in Pakistan and one after another, we see grand weddings on the internet. Lately, Syed Salman Gilani and Khadija Hafeez tied the knot in the big fat wedding. There was a huge gathering and popular Sahir Ali Bagga was also spotted while entertaining the audience. The stunning bride and groom were dancing their hearts out in gorgeous outfits, having all fun on their big day.
However, there was a lack of social responsibility as Covid cases are increasing in Pakistan but none of the guests was wearing masks. In each and every picture from the wedding, not even a single guest can be seen following SOP’s and it can have dangerous outcomes.

After Lahore the Wrong No team went to Karachi to promote their film. The premier was a star studded affair. The special public premiere of the film will be shown in cinemas on 16 and 17 July. The team of the film has done their best to attract the viewers by making appearances everywhere, talking to the public and promoting their film in every way possible. It is anticipated that the film will be given a warm welcome by the cinema goers.
