“If Everyone Goes To India, Who Will Work In Pakistan!” – Faisal Qureshi

0

Faisal Qureshi has always been known for his patriotic nature and the respect he gives to his seniors. He was invited as a guest on Ali’s Saleem’s show on Dawn News. Faisal Qureshi just like always was very blunt while expressing his point of view. Ali Saleem asked him why he had not accepted an offer from Bollywood. To this he replied,

“Surely I did think about working there but all the work that I have done in my own country, I have done it with respect and dignity. I wanted to work there with the same respect and dignity but that kind of opportunity never came along. Thanks to Allah, the film industry in Pakistan is growing now. I think if all of us will go to India, there will be no one left here.”

10

Faisal Qureshi also said that Pakistani people loved controversial material. He said,

“Once my Morning Show on TV One was not getting ratings. In the beginning of one  of the shows I said jokingly that today’s show was PG 18 so those who didn’t want to watch such a show should avoid it. Would you believe it that this particular show got more rating than any other that day!!”

Faisal Qureshi also talked about his personal likes and dislikes. He said that Mahira Khan was the best actress around right now. He also said,

“The biggest regret in my life is that my father could not see me succeed.”

Faisal Qureshi also shared that Shaista Wahidi was his favorite Morning Show host. He also appreciated Aamir Liaquat.

Judai – Episode 13

I quite like the pace at which this drama is moving along now. Seeing that Zaryan and Zaina left all their clothes and belongings in their old home, Mehr takes it upon herself to get them some basic necessities. I liked how she did not try to persuade or push Zaina to accompany her. It was very heartfelt and genuine the way she said itna tau haq do mujhay but I did wonder – haq based on what? Is it because Mehr genuinely wants to help them so she wants Zaina to start trusting her? Probably. It just seemed awkward given that Zaina clearly resents Mehr – she does not feel obliged in the least to give her any sort of control or rights – but the very real truth now is that only Mehr can help Zaryan and Zaina at this point of their lives.

I had earlier mentioned how Zaina was being a bit of a brat and I thought that initially too until I remembered the scene in an earlier episode where Zaina is looking at the boxes of unopened presents she received from Hassan over the years on her birthdays but never opened. Although we know and understand Mehr is not at all at fault here and in fact is being extremely compassionate but Zaina was very little when Hasan came (rather came and disappeared) into their lives. And I suppose everyone deals with insecurities and feelings differently. Whereas Zaryan truly appreciates what Mehr is putting at stake by helping them, Zaina feels she is only trying to ease a guilty conscience.

People close to us do have quite an impact on the way our thoughts develop but seems like Hamza and Haider lack brains of their own and need Alia and Minahil to do all their thinking! If only they let Mehr do their thinking for them instead! Haider is convinced Mehr is wrong to reach out to Zaryan and Zaina whereas Hamza is willing to hear his mother out and then sort things as a ‘family’.

Selfieeeeeeeeeeee. Haha. Minahil and Hamza’s selfie has made its way to Zaina’s eyes and she feels heartbroken that Hamza had been playing her all along. Convinced Lahore ‘mein kuch nahin rakha’ she agrees to go to Karachi with Mehr. Did anyone else find Saman Aunty’s outburst when Junaid tells her Mehr is bringing Zaryan and Zaina to Karachi hilarious? I mean, like what does she care?! Itna outrage over Mehr’s decision – how does it affect her?! Haider and Hamza dono haath se nikal gaye hain, oh but wait. A thought just occurred to me. Zaryan and Minahil? Yes? Maybe? Especially Zaryan-after-getting-due-share-from-Hassan’s-inheritance- wala Zaryan? Saman Auntyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!! She has rubbed off on me now! Shoot me!

I found tears pricking the back of my eyes in the scene Mehr is expressing her feelings and fears while looking at the photo of her and Hassan. I also loved how she said she did not know how she has found the courage to do all this because it is so true that in the initial episodes she came across as a woman who is very warm but Hasan handled everything and she was very content for things to be that way.

PIC

Mehr ji is very nice, no doubt – but her taste in clothes was a bit disappointing. Zaina and Zaryan looked so awkward and out of place in their new clothes but maybe that was the whole impression that the director wanted to create or maybe I am overly feeling things here. I was so used to Zaina’s simple clothes and Zaryan’s hoodie that the black jacket and that frilly white thing Zaina had on really stood out for me. I would have loved to say that the scene where ‘everyone meets everyone’ was powerful but sadly it failed to make much of an impact. Hamza’s reaction surprised me. I do not know quite how to explain it. I expected more shock, concern, worry at the realization that Zaina is well, Zaina rather than a ‘oh no, why did I fall for her’ kind of reaction. What I did love about that scene though was how Mehr raises her hand to stop Haider in his tracks and declares yeh ghar mera hai and she will decide who stays and who does not.

Each episode Samina Peerzada gives a performance that has me riveted to the screen. I love Mehr’s character – such a breath of fresh air. Such characters are rare, I agree but maybe they do exist. I do wonder though how she will deal with her own sons who are clearly not thrilled at the thought of Zaryan and Zaina living under the same roof. I understand wanting to do right by Z and Z but not at the expense of ostracizing herself from her very own sons. I am so not looking forward to Haider having a go at Zaryan which by the looks of that scene, may happen more than once.

Will Hamza or Zaina disclose to Mehr that they know each other from university? Or will the internet miraculously and finally begin to work again and Alia will make the discovery herself? Shudder!

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Tum Kon Piya – Episode 8

This episode was extremely emotional; it was heart-wrenching to see a beautiful love story come to an end. Even though the OST was used very generously in this episode but except for one scene in which Ramish was sitting on the bench mourning his loss, I did not feel the need to forward any other scenes since they added the right kind of emotions to this episode. It is very difficult to make a simple love story work because we see them on television all the time but so far Tum Kon Piya team has managed to make this particular love story very relatable. It evokes the right kind of emotions in the viewer and you understand the sense of loss Elma and Ramish feel. The primary reason for this is that the characters are likeable, the direction is superb; especially the fantasy scenes are exceptional and the sizzling chemistry between Ayeza Khan and Imran Abbas make you connect to the way they feel about each other without doubting their feelings for a second even though this too was a classical case of love at first sight.

tkpElma’s wedding was covered in detail in this episode. There are very few dramas which cover all the details. I am glad this episode was dedicated to the wedding alone because all the aspects were covered nicely. Just like all the previous episodes, this one too was visually very pleasing. Waqar Ali failed to see the differences between the two families which should have been apparent therefore when he heard Zarbab’s mother and sister criticizing the food and the arrangements he was taken aback. Although Ramish’s father employed all the wrong methods to have his own way but it was good to see him ‘acknowledging’ what Waqar Ali and Elma had done for him.

tkp1Sharafat begum’s insecurities were further highlighted in tonight’s episode but Zarbab didn’t exactly follow his mother’s orders. The one thing weighing on Zarbab’s mind more than any other is the fear that Javeria might attempt to create problems for him, therefore he addressed that issue first and everything else came later on!! It was funny to watch Zarbab saying all those things to Elma about forgetting the past, it went to show how scared he was of Javeria even now. What he said after that about his family and how Elma might have to put up with a few things she is not used to dealing with went to show that his heart was in the right place. Zarbab likes his new wife and he wants to make his marriage work but the fact is that it doesn’t really matter what he wants because at the end of the day he is completely helpless in front of his mother. He will never be able to take a stand for Elma.

Arif’s character might prove to be a bigger problem for Elma and Zarbab than Sharafat begum. The preview of the next episode suggested that Arif was not willing to give Elma the respect she deserved because he already looks down upon her.

tkp2

Ayeza Khan was exceptional in tonight’s episode, she managed to translate Elma’s feelings on screen without overdoing it although those scenes were very long. The director made use of the OST and imagined conversations to break the monotony. Imran Abbas also performed really well in all the scenes but he was brilliant in the scene in which Sunbal and Ramish meet. He looked detached and lifeless. Sunbal finds Ramish interesting which I guess is fair enough because he really is one-of-a-kind! Sunbal is interested in Ramish but so far she is not desperate to have him in his life.

The best thing about this episode was that it made me feel for all the characters. Ramish and Elma’s loss was heartbreaking – they could have been so happy together but they are being forced to live a life they didn’t choose for themselves. Waqar Ali’s concerns after overhearing Sharafat begum and her daughter’s conversation made me feel for him too – it was too late now and there was nothing he could do except hoping for the best for a daughter he loved so much. Elma’s sisters felt lost without their Aapi, something that was conveyed well in a short scene.

I would give full marks to the director for making this episode extremely poignant. On the surface this episode didn’t have much to offer but it was special only because of the feelings it managed to evoke. Also, the decorations in this episode were phenomenal. Whoever was responsible for those flower decorations and also the decorations in the wedding function is an extremely creative person. I especially liked the decorations in Elma’s room, the flowers hanging on the ceiling were eye-catching. Elma’s room reminded me of Haadi’s room on the night of his wedding from the play Alvida.

How many of you feel sad after watching this episode? Do share your thoughts about this latest installment.

“I don’t blame Fawad Khan for what happened at the HUM Awards, Sultana Siddiqui was the one at fault.” – Badar Khalil

Last year the HUM Awards were clouded by controversy when Badar Khalil who was there to receive a life achievement award left her award on her seat and left the show shortly after she received the award. She talked to Dawn News even at that time and said that she was appalled by the treatment meted out to her on the award show. Apparently she was asked to sit in the backseat because Fawad Khan had to sit in her place.

Badar Khalil left for Canada shortly after this incident so no one ever got a chance to ask her what had happened in person. Also, she announced that she was not going to continue with acting because she was done with it after everything that happened at HUM Awards.

Faisal Qureshi invited Badar Khalil to her show. She said that she had forgiven everyone but even then she narrated the incident once again, she said,

“I had just received my award and I was sitting in my seat right next to Sultana Siddiqui in the front. She got a call from Fawad Khan, I could hear he was saying that he won’t come to the show if he did not get the front seat to sit with her. That is when Sultana Siddiqui asked me to go sit in the back seat. My problem with this whole thing was that why didn’t she ask Momina Duraid, her daughter in law who was sitting on the other side to leave her seat for Fawad Khan.”

badar khalil 1

She said that she did not blame Fawad Khan,

“It wasn’t Fawad Khan’s fault, it was Sultana Siddiqui’s fault because as a host she was the one responsible for this decision. When she asked me to go sit in the back I left my award there and left!! These awards mean nothing to me, they are nothing but decorations. What really matters is the respect we get when we are invited to these award functions.”

Badar Khalil said that PTV gave her life achievement award too and they truly gave her the welcome and respect that was fit for someone who was getting such an award. She said,

“I cannot be fake, I cannot sugar coat things. Now the same Sultana Siddiqui who did this to me met me like nothing had happened! I cannot do that. I have given this industry 50 years and I have done it all on the basis of my talent. I have never resorted to buttering to get anything in m career.”

Badar Khalil also said that she was leaving for Canada and had no plans of coming back. She said she wanted to teach acting there if everything worked out.

Besharam – Episode 01!

Ohkay so, the production of Six Sigma Productions, direction of Farooq Rind & the writing of Sarwat Nazeer; ‘Besharam’ hit our TV screens tonight & honestly speaking, I enjoyed watching the first episode a lot because it kept my attention intact throughout the episode & even though there were a lot of characters that were introduced int he introductory episode, their plots were established properly.

We have a family of Haider (Zahid Ahmed) who lives with his mother Khadija (Shahista Jabeen) & sister Humna (Sundas Tariq). Haider is a social activist who believes that stepping into politics will bring a change that the nation wants to see & being a leader of his self-formed political party, he takes his passion quite seriously. Haider believes in going out of the way to help the people around him so that they can form a bond of trust with him which will help his political party & career a lot. Haider knows that the path that he is walking on is never going to be easy & he will have to face repercussions time & again but he is not afraid of any of that as he knows that anything worth having doesn’t come easily.

Collage 03

On the other side, we have Haider’s uncle Sikandar (Mehmood Akhtar) whose family includes his wife Shakira, son Qadeer & daughter Saba. Qadeer is engaged to Haider’s sister Humna & Sikandar wants Saba to get married to Haider too. Sikandar runs a shop that was under the ownership of him & Haider’s late father too but he doesn’t believe in giving Haider’s family a fair share of their property because he thinks he has been taking care of their expenses all his life, therefore he is not bound to give them what is theirs.

Collage 02

Then we got introduced to the family of Tahir Malik (Rehan Sheikh) a politician, who married twice & has a daughter Mishal Malik (Saba Qamar) from his Second Wife (Atiqa Odho). It looks like Tahir’s second marriage lasted for only 6 years & he went back to his first wife, leaving his 5 y/o daughter & second wife on their own. Mishal is now a top model & she takes care of herself & her mother. Mishal’s mother still gets depressed about the sort of life she lead because of her husband & Mishal has to face the brunt when her mother gets these depression pangs. Mishal lives a glamorous life on the surface but deep down she is a simple girl who believes in compassion & making people around her happy. She doesn’t mind apologizing to her helpers for her mother’s behavior & also doesn’t hold back in helping those who may share their problems with her. Mishaal’s mother is going out with Jamal (Faisal Rehman) & I am interested to see how their track will be developed.

Collage 01

In the initial part of the episode I got a bit too overwhlemed by the amount of characters that were being introduced but by the end of the episode, everything fell in its place & things got clear easily. I liked how they didn’t only introduce the characters but they showed us bits & bobs of their personalities too. Mishal is independent & strong, may be that’s why her mother depends emotionally on her a bit more than she should. Haider is a misunderstood person who doesn’t bother much about what people think of him, because he knows that as far as he will be honest, nothing can happen to him. Haider is honest to the point of being blunt, that is why he has a rocky relationship with his Uncle Sikandar, as he doesn’t allow him to make decisions for Haider anymore. Haider is focused & he knows what he wants to achieve & on the other hand, Mishal is leading a happening life but she is definitely missing something & there’s a void that she feels which was made evident during the scenes in which she is all by herself.

I must say the direction of this episode was superb. I liked how all the scenes were short & to the point, the editors did a great job too because such an editing made this episode quite interesting & kept the pace perfect as well. The camera work was brilliant & I liked how the director used a lot of different angles to capture the scenes. I must say I enjoyed the conversations a lot too as they were written intelligently & I found myself giggling at times too. All the actors did a wonderful job but I must say I enjoyed the scenes of Atiqa Odho, Faisal Rehman & Mehmood Akhtar the most, may be it’s the experience that gave them a upper-hand & they performed convincingly in the fewer scenes that were given to them. I also liked the character of Atiqa Odho as well, she is more like a child that Mishal is baby-sitting since forever & it looks like she knows that her daughter is kind-hearted, therefore she makes the most of it by emotionally blackmailing her at times too. Looks like Haider’s fearlessness impressed another Politician (Baber Jatoi) & he will come up with a proposal for Haider to join his party. I must say I like how both the main characters are shown to be doing well for themselves & if I put it in simpler words, I like how it is shown that both of them have a ‘life’ of their own. Also, before concluding the review I must add that Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed both have perfectly adapted the attitude required for the characters that they are playing. Saba Qamar looks glamorous & beautiful whereas Zahid Ahmed looked strong & manly. Let’s see what do they have in store for us. For me, the first episode worked completely & I strongly recommend it to those who’re reading this review to find out if they should give this drama a go or not & for those who’ve watched it already, please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Besharam. :)

Films in May 2016

The first four months (Jan – Apr) of the year 2016 have passed which proved rather dismal when it comes to the number of Urdu films released. There has been only five major Urdu films released till April 2016

January – Ho Mann Jahan (1st January)
February – Bachaana (26 February 2016)
March – Fiker Not (11 March 2016)
April – Maalik (8 April 2016), Hijrat (22 April 2016)

Ho Mann Jahan earned nearly 21 crore (16 crore in Pakistan and 5 crore in the rest of the world), while Bachaana earned around 9 – 10 crore. Maalik (8 April 2016) earned around 4 crore before being banned after running for three weeks. Hijrat (22 April 2016) has proved dead flop and earned less than 1 crore in its opening week.

One major reason for such low numbers of releases was two back to back cricket tournaments. In February 2016, the first edition of Pakistan Super League was organized which was followed by the Cricket T20 World Cup in March 2016. Due to these cricketing events, release of few films was postponed.

This article lists the Urdu films announced to be released in May 2016. Due to the Holy month of Ramazan no film is releasing in June-2016 and thus after May, new Urdu films will be released in July on the festive occasion of Eidul Fitr.

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 09!

Ohkay so, this episode of Zara Yaad Kar was quite average & slow as nothing much happened & a divided coverage was given to all the characters to show what was happening in their lives after the havoc the Mahnoor wrecked in their lives.

Haadi is still in a denial about what Mahnoor said, may be that’s why he still has the courage to forgive & forget everything that Mahnoor has done in the past few days. Aneesa knows that from now onward, there will hardly be any such days where she will see happiness & harmony in her life that is why the way she spoke to her son about informing Haadi of her death when the time arises went to show that she has given up & there’s no glimmer of hope left in her to keep her positive about the future. She knows that Mahnoor & Haadi are not meant to be because Mahnoor doesn’t want it, that is why, every time she spoke to Haadi, she kept on ignoring his questions about Mahnoor as she knows that there’s no use of that & her daughter has called it quits.

Uzma was disturbed because she felt that Haadi didn’t trust her enough to tell her the truth & that is why he brought her the sweets to make her believe that everything went back to normal. After Haadi spoke to Aneesa & was forced to do some thinking once again, he realized that he needed Uzma’s help & advice to finally make the decision. Uzma got furious at what Mahnoor said, that is why it didn’t take her a minute to suggest that Haadi should leave her as she herself has left him & it is Haadi who needs to bring himself to face this reality. However, I do not understand why didn’t Uzma once again tell Haadi to forgive Mahnoor like she suggested before & why did she take such an offence at Mahnoor’s demand of divorce?

Waqar & Gaitiara got a lot more coverage this time around & may be that is the reason why this episode didn’t actually work for me. Gaitiara is there to prove that she is different from her father & she will end up becoming an ideal leader to those people who her father has been fooling for so many years. I thought that the whole ‘pyaar’ bit was confirmed & Waqar knew about the feelings that Gaitiara had for him as she wrote a similar note in the previous episode too but once again it was brought into highlight but that entire conversation wasn’t interesting & convincing. However, it did tell us something more about Waqar.

Waqar is happily fooling around with Mahnoor as he know that this is what she wants but deep down he has his sights on Gaitiara & he is waiting for a hint from her in order to make up his mind as to take Mahnoor or leave her. The call that Waqar made to Gaitiara in order to confirm about her feelings went to show that Waqar believes in getting a confession from a girl first & when he didn’t get the desired answer from Gaitiara, he threw a few compliments her way in order to make her think about what was already running through his mind. Waqar is not only an opportunist but he is a very conniving person who loves to play his cards cautiously. Waqar knows that if he will be the first one to confess, he might lose a chance because may be Gaitiara’s father will never approve of him or may be Gaitiara might say that she doesn’t feel like that for him, that is why he wants Gaitiara to be the first one to fall in love, because of which she will not only be able to take a stand for Waqar but will be able to convince her father too. Waqar did the same thing with Mahnoor, where he never really made any promises or never really shared his true feelings with her first, but ended up giving her enough compliments to melt her heart & this is exactly what he did this time around with Gaitiara too. The moment he understood that what Gaitiara said was generic, he gave her a food for thought that he knew will work in his favour. Waqar is quite a calculative person, that is why he told Mahnoor to wait for a couple of days before finalizing her divorce with Haadi & then he spoke to Gaitiara to know what she feels. I am sure Waqar will try his best to get Gaitiara’s answer in next few days & when that will happen, he will happily ditch Mahnoor & will tell her to mend ways with Haadi & not get divorced using him as a reason. I must say, Waqar’s character has been written intelligently & the director has elaborated Waqar’s thought process on screen brilliantly too.

Overall, this episode was quite average & didn’t give us anything unusual or new. The preview however did seem promising so let’s see what more do they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Mera ‘Baby’ Miladay – Episode 14

Baby, baby!
Yes mama!
Crying baby?
No mama!
Marry baray saeen?
Yes mama!
That’s like my baby!

Uff! Double uff! Triple uff! Mountains of uff! Oceans of uff! Galaxy of uff! I paused this episode a few times while watching it just to get a break from it because it was such a yawn! And what in the world is this ‘lucky charm baby’ business?! So Mushq has landed herself a place in the ‘home’ of this very colourful madam who so far has kept Mushq away from her shady dealings. She considers Mushq her lucky charm and does not want to impose anything on her but at the same time does not want her to leave. Mushq has befriended a girl who visits Madam’s house and is apparently a seamstress (or is she the friend of the seamstress?). Her constant references to her father and then Jumman Chacha insisting Dabbu attend his daughter’s wedding gives the impression that this girl is Jumman’s daughter.

Fahd is moping around like a lovesick puppy. He really did not have much to offer today except he is adamant he can not live without Mushq and his mother is adamant he will live without Mushq. Finit. There was so much speculation last week over that scene where Mushq is running with someone and two goons in their pursuit – was all just a dream. A nightmare. Whatever – but was not real. Like I said – uff!

Zeba’s issues in life ka ek he solution hai– Ali’s expulsion from school. Na Ali school jaye na sara waqt Zeba uss ka uniform dhoti rahay, iron karay aur shoes polish karay. Seems like even the obedient daughter is being dealt a harsh hand in life or is it because of Mushq’s actions that her sister is suffering. I would not be surprised if that is what the writer is trying to show here.

PIC

Dabbu and Striker have turned into Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson and are trying to find Mushq and Fahd. It amazed me when Fahd set out to look for Mushq in Karachi without an address and now Dabbu is doing the same, heading off to Lahore to find Fahd – without any address. Surely it is not that easy to just ‘find’ people! Seems like they will be spared the journey though as the episode ends with them deciding to head to Nooriabad to Jumman Chacha’s daughter’s wedding where I believe they will come across Mushq.

Mushq’s track record of consenting to ‘old men’ marriages is disturbing. I know, I know – koi aur bhoolay na bhoolay, I have not forgotten that wretched Qureshi. Is she truly consenting to marry baray saeen based upon her faith in Madam? Does she really trust Madam that much? Or is she gaining her trust so she may form an escape plan.

I honestly do not have much to say about today’s episode. This drama is beginning to bore me a little now especially with this ‘madam-baby’ track now. Dabbu’s supposed meeting with Mushq that we are all anticipating to happen at the nikkah event should have taken place last episode or at least definitely in today’s – but no! I am finding it very hard to keep my interest alive here and would prefer to just stop watching and then watch the remaining episodes in one go – I am sure I would be far more entertained that way!

I will say that the writer did make an extra effort with the names of the characters though. Dabbu, Mushq, ‘baby’, Bebo (that is what baray saeen called the ‘Madam’ didn’t he?) and Orya! Orya! Haha. Oh well, at least his name reminded me we have run out of Oreos at home so should add that to my grocery list! I do not even want to sit and wonder what will happen next because I spent the last few episode reviews wondering that and the story is sitting stagnant.

Is it just me or is this drama losing the little charm it had? Even Faisal Qureshi’s scenes are failing to make an impact. Would love to hear your thoughts! Will Dabbu finally meet Mushq and help her escape – till next week then, baby!

Naml: Episode 22

“Faris sambhaal lega”…This month’s episode was very interesting and the story progressed further with many filmi things. The chosen poetry was added with relevant tracks.

Saadi-Faris Reunion

So, first things first, it was heartbreaking to see Saadi being beaten up by his own Mamu but yes, Mamu ki kya baat hai, Saadi ki achayi uskay khilaf use ki…too bad Mamu! it was horrifying yet depicted true love of her Mehbooba ( sounds really funny when Saadi calls Faris Mehbooba) I guessed it right as the writer tried to instill the idea that Saadi was captured by Hashim Kardaar’s man but I felt somewhere that he was Faris.

It was really emotional when Faris tried to realize Saadi that his family comes first and he should be concerned about them by saying “Fiyona aur uska bucha zyada eham hain” the way Saadi broke and started crying was so sad to read. But it was a good re-union.

Miss Red and her so called innocence!

Miss Red ka dil torr diya Faris ne, as the previous episode ended at the very heartbreaking note but this month’s episode pays it back so Aabdaar was heartbroken and felt devastated as Faris proved to be loyal to Zumar and he used Aabdaar only to get her goals accomplished. Faris’s character seemed selfish at this point but Miss Red is purely wrong and I am glad Faris told her what was needed.

Haneen and her verge towards good!

Haneen is on her way to a positive change in her life. She started memorizing Quran so she is not a Hafiz-e-Quran in a criterion we usually call someone hafiz but Nemrah Ahmed through her wisdom managed to convey that even if you know a verse you should revise it and that is also a part of hifz. Loved all her conversations with Memoona, she is such a nice lady and her conversation left a calm and tranquil impression on the reader. I was surprised to know that Haneen didn’t had an ounce of sympathy for Hashim Kardaar but I was glad that she is out of that Ishq I presume.

Zumar…Maakir

Zumar Faris…She managed to get through the trauma of Aabdaar and Faris when she started to think logically and tried to read between the lines. Zumar is Maakir that sounds bad but it was actually quite satisfying to see her this way saving her family because Hashim and his family has left no other option for her. Zumar managed to get into the laptop of Hashim when he had an Anxiety Attack which she took it as a heart attack.

Zumar started the tafseer from the Surah ( Al-Naml) which Saadi left and it was refreshing to see her heart getting soft, Indeed with the remembrance of Allah the heart softens.

Jewelry Aunty and her Budha dil!

Jewelry Aunty, Mrs Javahirat…..Allah bachaye isse! So no matter how many plastic surgeries you do to hide your real age but you can’t really stop feeling old and weak from inside. It was so selfish of her not having any genuine sympathy for his beloved son Hashim Kardaar. She deserved that reality check from Haroon Obaid. He with his words crashed her Ego and has set the grounds for her failure which is not a good sign for Mrs.Javahirat.

Nausheervan…Now tou you are gone!

Nausheervan ka bura waqt shuru hochuka hai because he is dumb and Zumar is playing mind games with him and ab tou Saadi bhi nahi chorega Nausheervan ko! Bringing back Alicia and conspiring against Hashim and his family Zumar is playing her part wisely. But why on earth Alicia wants her key chain back? Ants Ever-after.

Nausheervan was surprised to know that Saadi is not innocent at all. Well, at this point no one is innocent but Yes, Yusuf’s still are innocent and they are conspiring but for their justice and that’s okay.

Ahmer Shafi….. A disappointment!

Ahmer Shafi is proving himself to be loyal to Javahirat and threatens Haneen by investigating all about her past. He was not a black character, I liked him but he disappointed me. I didn’t expect this level of cheapness from him. He is on a wrong path and completely blinded by the power show of Kardaars.

Hashim kardaar…. Has moved on…hmmm!!

Hashim Kardaar has moved on…really??? It was good to see this because I really want him to repent and turn into a good person obviously after getting his due punishment. He got his oil company all turned to ashes. Did Faris planned this as well?

Hashim Kardaar had an Anxiety attack and I think its Karma time.He is getting back what he has given away.
Lol… that speech really showed how politicians talk about their “Good Plans” and I would be glad to know if its all true!

Ending and Predictions!

The episode ended with some tracks which were a bit scary. Saadi is captured by Faseeh and he murdered him. I don’t know for how long Saadi have to deal with such people and by using her Haq-e-Difah would kill these criminals. Sigh!!! The happiness of re-union were crashed by this incident.

Aabdaar is suffering from depression and Hashim needs someone to be around him because he knows now he is alone. Hashim would soon propose Aabdaar and let’s see what will be her answer.

I will have to wait to know the answer because now I could not figure it out how Aabdaar will react further but one thing is sure …Zumar-faris relationship is not that weak but it is quite strong.

Any predictions?

Mann Mayal – Episode 16

“Vo actually mere maa baap nahi hei na” card was played by Jeena so many times today that I was really tempted to add a few extra lines to some of her conversations with different characters. So here it goes,

Salahuddin: Miss Jeena meinay aap ko kitni dafa samjhaya hai ke apne time pe ana jana hai, mera wait nahi krna.

Jeena: Vo mere maa baap nahi hai na tu is liye mei buhat dheet hu.

Salahuddin: Zara haath hola rukha kijye. Aap jub yeh sub karei gi tu office wale batein banayen gay.

Jeena: vo actually mere maa baap nah hei na is liye mujhe apni izzat besti ka koi khas khayal nahi hai.

Salahuddin’s mother: Arey beta choro gharey murde ukharne se kya faida.

Jeena: vo actually mere maa baap nahi hai na is liye mujhe kisi ne tameez nahi sikhai ke kisi k mamlay mei tang nahi arate!

I could go on and on but I think everyone reading this review will agree with me that Jeena’s loneliness and desperation is anything but cute! Jeena is just as obsessed with Salahuddin as he is with Mannu. The conversation between Salahuddin and Jeena when they are having dinner in the office was one of the many senseless conversations in this episode. It was not the usual conversation which a boss would have with a colleague, Jeena was hitting on Salahuddin blatantly but somehow he has no idea that she is infatuated by him! Yes, he is very ‘distracted’ because he is too busy playing ‘superman’ but even then Jeena makes her intentions clear enough!! I won’t be surprised if Jamil tells him at some point that Jeena loves him since Salahuddin lets Jamil do all the thinking for him! Jeena’s desperation was very annoying in tonight’s episode. If this was a teenager who was infatuated by her boss, things would have made a little more sense.

mm1Mannu’s conversations with the guru in tonight’s episode were beyond ridiculous! Mannu feels like someone’s watching over her although after the incident at the hospital it would have been an easy guess that Salahuddin was chasing her and trying to ‘protect’ her. The confrontation between Mannu and Salahuddin was poorly written. There was no mention of how Salahuddin made a fool out of Mannu all these days! And even after this confrontation Salahuddin did not take this whole thing seriously! The way he laughed while talking to Mannu when she was sending him voice messages and later on his non serious attitude after the confrontation made it look like he had absolutely no respect for Mannu’s feelings. He thought of her as a fool who did not know what was good for her!!

Our superman found a way out and ‘told on’ Mikael – that should solve all of Mannu’s problems!! Only a super hero can think of such a solution to a big problem like this one! Mannu’s family appeared out of nowhere yet again!! Mannu’s family’s disappearance and then reappearance is the biggest loop hole in the script. A daughter cannot cut herself off from her family if the family still feels the way they do about her. Why can’t they pick up the phone and call her. Why can’t they book a ticket and go see her? In the last episode Jamil told Salahuddin that they did not even come when her son was born. Of course Mannu wouldn’t want them to come because she doesn’t want them to find out about Mikael but even then they don’t need an invitation to meet their grandchild. Also, this was the first conversation Mannu had with her father after he told her not to go back to Mikael yet he seemed to be quite happy with her in laws and Mikael – did I miss something??

mm2The only good thing about this episode was Jamil’s attitude towards Jeena!! He is far better at keeping her at a distance than his boss. Also the way Mannu found out the truth about Jamil and her initial reaction was translated on screen superbly by Maya Ali. The confrontation between Salahuddin and Mannu however was not the least bit powerful! There are dramas which make it impossible for the viewers to find faults in them and then there are episodes like this one which make it impossible to say something good about them!! This episode was a major train wreck.

The preview of the next episode suggested that Mikael’s father will pass away….’superman’ saves the day;) Jeena was shown playing Bia’s role in the next episode – passing information to the headquarters! I really thought Ayesha Khan was through playing these desperate and useless characters but I guess I was really wrong! It is sad to see Hamza Ali Abbasi making his comeback with a play which has a very poor script and his character doesn’t have much to offer either.

Tere Mere Beech – Episode 24!

Ohkay so, I tuned to Tere Mere Beech this week in a hope that this would be the last episode but they disappointed me once again. The pace is another thing but the most irritating thing about these last episodes is the fact that all this could’ve been wrapped in pretty much a couple of episodes but looks like the team of this drama is not budging unless they make enough profits because other than this, I actually see no reason for them to drag this drama & turn it into a nightmare. Speaking of nightmare also reminds me of Hareem & Zahida’s reunion that is meant to happen in the next episode, which I am dreading already. Looks like I’ll have to stuff earplugs in my ears even after I will put the TV on mute because Zahida’s caterwauling can even defy the mute option & make a way to viewer’s ears in order to torture them!

Hareem has lost her mind completely. I feel so bad that I have stopped having any sympathies for her as I used to love her character & felt that the writer will make things work for her by showing that it was Hareem herself who took charge of her situation but the writer proved that Hareem is another one of those becharis who can not imagine living a life without a man, irrespective of how much of a loser he is. Hareem paid a visit to Fahad in a hope that he will realize how much she loves him but looks like he set her off on another mission to help him getting bailed out in order to prove her love for him & Hareem being a gullible fool went out to accomplish the mission that was set for her.

Hareem’s visit to Tania made me feel that Tania at least redeemed herself. She proved that she is not as desperate as Hareem & that is why she is not going to forgive Fahad so easily. Tania has also made up her mind that she has nothing to do with Fahad, that is why the news of Fahad ending up in jail didn’t really shock her much. It was good that she shooed Hareem away because it is Hareem who has got no life but at least Tania has a family business to take care of!

Oh well, I actually find it amusing when I see Noor Hassan & Maryam Ansari’s image on the title cover of Tere Mere Beech, as it implied that they both had a very important role to play in this drama but they both ended up being the side characters & life-less at that as well because even after so many episodes & months, Nadia & Ali were stuck on Hareem & even after she was gone, they were discussing the location of her grave. Matlab itnay lifeless log? My goodness! After Hareem made an entry into Ali & Nadia’s lives back, all the scenes & conversations that followed were not only slow & boring but were stretched & content-free too. It was so obvious that they were made to repeat their dialogues twice at least to fill in the blank spots & to be able to compile the repetitive content so that they could turn it into a 40 minute episode.

The preview set my hopes high that it might be the last episode where even Qadeer will have a closure & he will end up handing over Hareem’s share of property to her. Fahad will realize that he can not live without Hareem & eventually both the materialistic miyan biwi will end up hitting a jackpot, voila, what a convincing finish I must say! LOL! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Tere Mere Beech!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Bhai – Episodes 26-29 – Shafqat Cheema, yo!

Haye, so where do I start? Last week, a reader commented on how much misery there is in this drama, how one tragic event after the other occurs and while I did not deny the fact, I still thought Bhai was working for me. But these four episodes left me feeling almost physically sick with the depths of misery and despair being portrayed here!

Hammad’s death, in my opinion should have been the pinnacle of tragic events. It was shocking enough, the death itself and the way it came about. Ashraf too was shocked out of his madness and that should have been enough. But, no. I gaped at the introduction of this Shibli character (Shafqat Cheema). What in the world is Shafqat Cheema doing here? And then it clicked what had been niggling me all along – Bhai should have been a film, a movie – not a drama serial. When I saw him in his banyan dragging I -don’t- know- what heavy stuff along I thought Mamma Mia! Now what! I have never watched any of his films, ever! And after seeing him in Bhai and the ugliness of his role – I am glad.

PIC 1

So, it seems Shibli has a bone to pick with Ashraf. Shibli used to work for Ashraf’s father and when he fell ill, Shibli tried to take over his business and assets. He is however bullied into stepping back by Ashraf who was also redeemed in his father’s eyes and how he became in charge of the family business. Shibli finds with Ashraf locked up, this is the perfect opportunity to settle the score with him.

The whole Ifrah-Shibli scene was so awful and distasteful I could barely make my listen to whatever he was saying to her as I moved my earphones away. I could barely bring myself to watch it – let alone listen to the screams and what they were yelling about. Was it really necessary for Ifrah to be shown to go through all that? When he kicked her, I really felt physically sick. So Ifrah has lost the baby now too and Shibli has run away and can not be found anywhere.

Hammad’s death has left me confused now. The constant ‘ Ashraf nay dhakka nahin diya’ and ‘Hammad ka paoon phisla tha’ has left me confused too. Were the two not linked together? Ashraf did not push with the intent to push down the roof but well he did push, did he not? And the push did throw Hammad off balance so yes he slipped but are the two not linked together – without laying the blame on Ashraf or Hammad. Anyways, seems like Professor Sb was as confused as I am and dropped charges against Ashraf and he is released from jail.

Writer nay tau Professor Sb ko bhi nahin chora. Ifrah and her mother are truly truly alone in the world and in danger as Shibli is still on the loose. Bas, to establish this the writer threw in the awful Shibli character and scene and wrote off Professor Sb. I get Ifrah’s grief and also how people react in grief and I was relating to it but her confrontation with Ashraf seemed so bizarre the way Maha Warsi was shrieking. Grief makes you do crazy things but Ifrah is an educated girl – seeing her yelling ‘tu’ and shrieking hoarsely and then when she pushes Ashraf it seemed like she was going to collapse in his arms when he was holding her hands and I thought what the hell?!

I do not know what to make of Ashraf’s feelings for Ifrah. Even in jail he was recalling the moments when he first met her. I can not blame him for his feelings for if I am being fair he did fall in love with Ifrah before Hammad came in on the scene. So it is not as if he developed feelings for his ‘bhabhi’ – rather his lady lurrrve ended up being his bhabhi. But after Hammad’s death, hhis concern for Ifrah is not in the light of a bhabhi. He acknowledges her grief and how wronged she feels, he mourns the death of Hammad but his feelings and concern for Ifrah are purely his own.

Ashraf’s mother has channeled her grief into hatred towards Ifrah. Well, maybe not hatred but she believes Ifrah has cursed the family and has only brought misery ever since she came into their lives. However, I find this change came about after Ifrah loses her baby. I could totally relate to her relief over having Ashraf back home and Ashraf has returned a subdued Ashraf making it even easier for his mother to reach out to him and take care of her first born who she almost lost too. His parents seem to believe Ashraf is not responsible at all for his brother’s death whereas his sisters feel differently. His mother’s behaviour while sad, is not new. Now that the final link with Ifrah has also been taken away, she wants nothing to do with her.

So really what is left now? Ashraf trying to win over everyone’s hearts. Although to be honest, he has shown no concern for his sisters since his return. His only concern is Ifrah and finding Shibli. Does he really intend to kill Shibli when he can lay his hands on him? How would that help? He would end up in jail again – but hey, he would have avenged Ifrah’s ‘honor’. Uff – I hope this is not the way this drama is progressing now.

While I could relate to Ifrah’s grief earlier but Maha Warsi’s constant screaming and wailing is beginning to give me anxiety now. Thankfully there was very little of Saboor Ali in these few episodes. I actually missed Noman Ijaz in the earlier two episodes and it only reinforced my belief that this drama’s saving grace really is Noman Ijaz. The subtle changes in his character and how the harshness has slipped from his personality for now is totally believable.

Suspense, murder, mystery, thrillers – I have no lain dain with them. I prefer light, easy on the mind and romantic stuff. Bhai is getting so dark now. The twists and turns were still watchable because the pace was fast and I felt adventurous watching something different but I felt like I literally had to shrug off all this misery from myself after I watched these episodes! I wish the director and writer had turned this into a movie instead of a drama – God knows it has all the masala with gundda bhai, beatings and shouting in the family, brothers falling for one woman and then one brother dying because of the woman and then uggh, Shafqat Cheema!!!! I hope this drama gets wrapped up in a few more episodes now and please I will not and can not digest an Ifrah-Ashraf union. I hope it does not happen. My apologies, Ashraf!

On a lighter note – what’s with these baby named gunndas in our dramas?! There’s Dabbu in Mera Yaar Miladay and then when you hear the name Shibli you think this:

But you get to see this:

Not nice!

Udaari – Episode 5

This episode of Udaari was engaging, touching and all the developments in tonight’s episode were executed brilliantly. Meeran and Illyas’ love story came to an end with this episode, Sheedan and Sajida’s friendship also ended in this episode, Imtiaz got the kind of support from his wife which will gave him even more confidence to execute his evil plans and Arsh and his friends got the call for audition. All these developments just like the previous episodes of this drama were covered flawlessly. The credit for this goes to the entire team.

The best thing about this episode was the way Sheedan showed support for her daughter. Even though Sheedan had just found out about Meeran’s love affair and was not happy with her but when her daughter told her what Imtiaz had done she did not think twice before confronting him! The confrontation did not end well and nothing good came out of it but it was truly refreshing to watch a mother trusting her own daughter and not the person who attempted to violate her. Imtiaz is the kind of person who everyone trusts  blindly, even Sheedan’s own brother supported him by saying that this could have been a misunderstanding but her mother did not doubt her for a second. Now how often do we get to see such mothers in our dramas? We have seen more educated mothers in our dramas who come from affluent families doubting their daughters or not having the courage to confront the man involved because they are too afraid that no one will believe them. Sheedan’s personality traits coupled with Bushra Ansari’s powerful performance have made this character memorable. Sheedan is not educated, in fact she is not even respected by people, she is looked down upon because she is a ‘mirasi’ but she is much more intelligent and enlightened that all the other characters in the play. Sajida only believes Imtiaz instantly because of what her sister told her about Meeran. This incident happened only after her sister warned her therefore she had more of a reason to take sides with her husband. Sajida forgot everything that Sheedan had done for her for all these years and said things which were very bitter. This particular scene was touching and extremely powerful. It was good to see Samiya Mumtaz at her best in this scene. Watching Sajida regret what she had done later on and Imtiaz convincing her that she was right was an interesting addition to this new development.

udaari1

After the conversation with his friend Imtiaz felt like he had the license to cheat on his wife. So far he was shown as a perverted man but now he is a perverted man who thinks he has the right to do anything he wants to do because his wife is not good enough for him. Imtiaz has never been true to Sajida but he has never made her feel like she is inferior on her face either but things are going to change in that department as well. Sajida has cut  herself off from the only person who truly cared for her and now she is all alone with a man who is completely fake and very dangerous. Ahsan Khan yet again nailed every single scene in this episode because of his effortless performance.

Even after hearing that Illyas is getting engaged, Meeran was still in denial. It was really good to see Urwa Hocane’s toned down make-up in the last scene and especially in the preview of the next episode. She acted superbly in tonight’s episode.

The subject around which the central story of the drama revolves is a very tricky one to handle but so far the writer and especially the director has made sure that the subject of child abuse is handled sensitively. We know that Imtiaz has been playing ‘secret games’ with Zebu but so far nothing upsetting has been shown. Imtiaz and Meeran’s scene was also handled really well in tonight’s episode. Besides the drama has additional tracks because of which it doesn’t get too dark or depressing. The happenings and the characters definitely have an impact even though everything has been shown in a subtle way. The acting and the direction of the play is so fabulous that you feel like you’re watching real life stories unraveling on screen. Bushra Ansari has played many characters in different dramas but Sheedan is definitely the most outstanding of them all. I thought she could never outdo her character in Bilquees Kaur but she has done just that in this play. Sheedan’s character is much more strong and positive.

The preview of the next episode showed Meeran and Illyas’ final meeting. It also showed Imtiaz mocking Sajida because he thinks he deserves better! The way he looked at Meeran in the preview of the upcoming episode went to show that he was not going to leave her alone.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Mor Mahal – Episode 03!

Ohkay so, this episode was a tad bit interesting because it took the story forward & the preview seemed promising because looks like a lot of interesting details will be unveiled in the episodes to come. For some reason, I don’t mind the slow pace so far as I know they have a lot of details that have been divided in 45 episodes & for that reason they have kept the pace a little on the slower side but I wish they gave us something more meaningful to talk about as all the things that are happening are quite situational & I can’t really decipher the crux or the background story related to all these happenings that we’ve seen so far.

I think Badshah Begum was quite hasty & a bit immature in underestimating Farrukh Zaad like that. We have been told that they both don’t really share a cordial relationship with each other so did Badshah Begum actually think that Farrukh Zaad will fall prey to this trick & will lose her life? Badshah Begum actually took this defeat to her heart & she didn’t mind going to such a length where she even wished death upon Farrukh Zaad. Badshah Begum knows that Farrukh Zaad has Asif Jahan wrapped around her finger & the only way to free her son & win her lost pride over is to throw Wazeer Begum out of his life, even if it means poisoning her to death!

Farrukh Zaad knows how to play her cards well but it wasn’t for her loyal servant Shahista, Farrukh Zaad would’ve fallen into the trap & must’ve lost her life. It was Shahista’s instinct that prevented that from happening & the way Shahista was proven right, it increased the trust of Farrukh Zaad in her tenfold. The way they both planned & returned the favor to Badshah Begum was quite interesting. They actually know how to pull the strings & the reaction Badshah Begum gave was exactly what they both were hoping for, which was quite amusing. This little happening has set the grounds for the battlefield as both Badshah Begum & Wazeer Begum are not going to sit still & will keep on making these moves to defeat one another, however, I must say I am not intrigued by the whole black-magic bit at all!

Surraya is a total opposite to the dominant ladies that are fighting with each other to prove their ownership of Asif Jahan. She is a simple lady who believes in staying out of this mess as much as possible as she know that she’s not the only one she herself has to protect. She is carrying Asif Jahan’s child & that child means everything to her. She doesn’t bother much about the things that transpire in Mor Mahal as she know that she has a key of assurance & that is her child & for this particular reason, she is in peace.

Ohkay I will admit, I did enjoy the way Shola Jaan found the Bridal Shawl by making a fool out of Shahista & Farrukh Zaad, that bit actually was done nicely but other than that, the bickering of Shola Jaan & Dilbar didn’t spark an interest. It is quite interesting to see that even though Surraya tries to maintain a low profile, thanks to her servant, she isn’t oblivious to the happenings of Mor Mahal. Meher Bano is still fixated with Kabeer & for that reason, she has stopped thinking things through. She doesn’t mind putting Banki in danger just so that she can flee from Mor Mahal in order to meet the love of her life. She got lucky & succeeded in making a way out of the main area of the palace but the things she heard came as a shock to her. I think we’ll have to wait & see if the things she heard specifically about her brother were enough for her to change her mind & stay in the palace as Asif Jahan’s wife because if she will choose to walk out despite knowing that this decision of hers will endanger her brother’s life, then it will be enough of a proof to know that Meher Bano is quite selfish & is blinded by her love for Kabeer.

Asif Jahan’s conversation with his adviser told that he doesn’t believe in reigning the way his father did as he is more compassionate & kindhearted. Even his adviser knows that the tactics Asif Jahan’s father used as a ruler have become obsolete & he needs to win hearts of his nation through wisdom & economic progression & definitely not through ruthless killing. It needed an adviser to tell to Asif Jahan that the wife plays an important role in shaping the character of the ruler & helps him making the right decisions when it comes to his duty as an emperor. I am sure Asif Jahan’s attention will be diverted to Surraya now for his own benefits but Wazeer Begum won’t take this news well.

Overall, this episode was good but I am definitely hoping that it gets better & better. I must say I am in love with the jewelry pieces & the jewelry designers have absolutely done an amazing job. I must also add that I am glad they have given the simplistic no-makeup makeup look to Surraya (Fizza Ali) & Farrukh Zaad (Meesha Shafi) as it does bring back the essence of natural beauty that the ladies of those era were known for, however I wish I could say that about Badshah Begum (Hina Bayat), I guess a little blending of the under-eye eyeliner wouldn’t have hurt anyone especially the viewers! ;) Anyways, Please share your thoughts about this episode of Mor Mahal.

Aabro – Episode 21!

Ohkay so, this episode of Aabro was good but I wish I could say that about the note at which it ended. I really am amused at myself that I thought may be this drama will prove something by showing how a girl chooses to empower herself against all odds but guess what, the writers are so fixated with SHADI that they decided to choose it as an ultimate solution to all the problems that Ali & Aabro have faced till date, leaving me thoroughly disappointed. Wah, what a logic I must say!

Ahmed has confessed his feelings to Afsheen & this is for the first time that I was happy about Fauzia eavesdropping on them because she could hear it herself that it was Ahmed who was confessing his love & the one who was saying NO was Afsheen. Ahmed took a stand for Afsheen by fighting the guy who was harassing her & that thing definitely created a havoc in their family. It is quite amusing that in stead of patting on Ahmed’s back for having such morals & values that he decided to protect his family member & a girl at that, who happens to be the family’s izzat most of the times, he was being rebuked for his action & things blew out of proportion when everyone found out that it was Afsheen who Ahmed fought for.

For once I want to see a mother or a grandmother holding the guy responsible for his actions & not covering them up by putting a blame on a girl who has nothing to do with how the guys feels about her in the first place. I really can not comprehend that how can Zubaida & Fauzia be so blind to not see how Afsheen has been raised & what sort of a girl she herself is. She has always been a bookworm & getting a guy’s attention is the last thing on her mind, so why can’t Zubaida & Fauzia question Ahmed & not put a blame on Afsheen for luring him once? If Fauzia & Zubaida think they can read people’s intentions so well, then why aren’t they worried about Aima whose only motive in life is to have a boyfriend at the age of 14 I believe, lol!

I must say Farah Shah must be getting a lot of hate for Zubaida’s character, which definitely is her success as an actor & I honestly hate Zubaida, so kudos to Farah Shah for playing this character flawlessly. So, talking about Zubaida now, I must say I am impressed at her manipulative skills, where she turned everything against Aabro & Afsheen & used it to brain-feed Ali. Placing a slap on Afsheen’s cheek was one mistake but the bigger mistake that he committed was questioning Aabro for failing as a mother when it comes to Afsheen’s upbringing because if there’s someone who knows what Aabro’s plans are for Afsheen & how conscious she is when it comes to her, it is Ali. Ali has seen how strict Aabro has been so what was he trying to imply by questioning Aabro? Did he really think that Aabro was perfectly fine with the fact that some random guy was harassing & following their daughter? Before even speaking about it & acting so irrationally, Ali should’ve thought things through that Afsheen was a victim here & all the things that Zubaida said were only because she hates his wife & daughter to the core.

I liked the way both the grandchildren of Zubaida waged a war against her & gave her a much needed reality check but it would’ve made even more impact if it had an affect on her but she being dheet definitely tells that nothing that Afsheen or Ali said made her realize how wrong she has been. Zubaida blames Aabro for ruining the peace & harmony of this household whereas if she looks in the mirror & asks this question once again, the answer will be in her favor telling her that she’s the one who has ruined everyone’s life. I must say I am amazed at her rigidity & consistency where she still has failed to acknowledge the fact that her son Ali was just as guilty as Aabro was for eloping but very conveniently, Aabro is still the culprit & Ali is not, similarly, Afsheen is the culprit now & Ahmed is not!

Oh well, let’s talk about the ending of the episode with a heavy-heart but before saying anything, I did like the fact that Aabro spoke to Afsheen like she was her friend & confided in her after a very very long time but then came the curve-ball & destroyed everything for me. Aabro thinks Afsheen can redeem the ‘aabro’ of this family by curbing her desire of educating herself & making a sacrifice by getting married so that she can prove to Zubaida that she is not like Aabro??? HAIN!!! Where did this come from & why did the writer give this angle to Afsheen’s track? Like excuse me??? Even if Afsheen gets married, she will go to someone else’s house, so how will Zubaida see & experience how Afsheen has been raised & how well she is treating her sartaj & in-laws? If Zubaida wanted, she would’ve changed her opinion years ago when she saw what a well-mannered, decent & perfect little girl Afsheen was but when she chose to overlook it, how will Afsheen’s marriage change ANYTHING? Also, if this is what the writer was saving for the last, then why was there so much emphasis on Afsheen’s education in the first place, when the writer only had her marriage in her mind? Like education is meant to be sacrificed for the sake of marriage just to prove to the world especially the Cruella Daadi that her mother taught her daughter how all the household chores are performed? Seriously??? Just before the beginning of this scene when I saw Afsheen sitting on a bed, crying at what her family was going through & how her father was treating her, I really was thinking that may be this will prove to be the turning point in Afsheen’s life where she will focus harder on her studies so that she can get a decent job & help her parents & prove to everyone else that her parents had some bigger & different dreams for her (like Rafia had for Kashaf) but the moment the conversation ended, it literally ruined everything for me & the preview left me sighing in disbelief when I saw Afsheen in a chamkeela dupatta & serving chai in front of her tez tarrar saas-to-be. Ufff the irony! Seriously writers, I assume that you guys are educated yourself, so why are you making a 19 y/o get married in your drama, when all she wants in her life is to educate herself? How does her marriage change ANYTHING & hearing those words from a mother like Aabro who only wanted her daughter to focus on her education left me in a great deal of shock! I am so so disappointed that I can’t explain!

Anyways, the confession of Ahmed was something that I found quite sweet & the way he stood by Afsheen’s side was also nice. Other than that, the note at which this episode ended & the preview of the next episode has left me in a great shock that I don’t think I’ll be able to snap out of it anytime soon. If they really wanted to reach the 24 (or more) episode mark, then they could’ve showed how successful Afsheen became on the basis of her education but may be her shadi & through her an increase in Pakistan’s abaadi was the plan that writer had in her mind!!! Please share your thoughts about this shocker of an episode of Aabro.

Sehra Mai Suffer – Episode 20!

Ohkay so, please correct me if I am wrong but did I just watch an episode of morning show dedicated to ‘gharelu budget’ that often Nadia Khan & Nida Yasir have dedicated their shows to because all the discussions in this episode revolved around those very nominal things & the dialogues at times seemed a little too petty!!! I seriously am so put off after watching this episode that I actually feel I have wasted my precious time. I really am not understanding the purpose of the writer here to be honest & it’s actually quite sad for someone like me who has a high regard for the work that Sarwat Nazeer has done previously.

I don’t really get why the writer here is trying to show someone like Taimur in a bad light. When I say someone like Taimur, I am talking about someone who makes a decent amount of money & has been able to maintain a decent lifestyle for his family. Yes, I do agree & I will say that again, I do agree & feel that Taimur is wrong in that aspect where he is ignoring his mother & her needs. He is also wrong where he doesn’t even put an effort to spend time with his mother but then, if he buys gifts for his wife & if he provides furniture or curtains for her, then what’s wrong with that & what is in it that makes him a bad guy or a bad son? I know he is just a side character but since his little family is getting so much of screen-time, I am forced to speak about it because if we look at it, Taimur spent a lot of time in abroad where he was making money & taking care of the household expenses on his own for a very long time & also when he returned he took care of Ayaaz & his mom for quite a while too, so now if I look through his perspective; living away on your own without your family, doing a job while managing everything on your own from cooking to cleaning to everything else which usually is the life that bachelors lead when they step outside of their country to make money, so if I consider all that, Taimur, in my opinion, didn’t lead an easy life too. Yes, he got lucky that he bagged himself a decent paying job, so now if he has settled in Pakistan & is doing these little gestures for his family, then why is he shown in a bad light here? It definitely isn’t Taimur’s responsibility to fend for his entire family all his life. Let me say that again, he is wrong for not being able to maintain a balance between his mother & his wife but apart from it, if he is providing a decent life for his family then there’s no point in showing him in a bad light.

Yes, the eyebrows are being raised on Taimur because of Nuzhat, but she is a whole different story & if she is like that, then let her be as she can’t change & her financial condition has nothing to do with how hard Iqra & Ayaaz’s financial stability is. I by no means am saying that I understand her character or I like her character, but yes, I think every wife is conscious about her husband’s pocket so if she asked for Ayaaz to bear half of the expenses then there’s nothing wrong in that as it wasn’t Taimur’s responsibility to provide for the entire family including Ayaaz’s wife just because he was making more money than Ayaaz. Also, it is a case in every single family where one brother makes a tad bit more amount of money than his other siblings, so it doesn’t mean that everyone has to rely on him for each & everything!

Also, another thing that I don’t really understand is the reason why Ayaaz’s job as a tutor is highlighted so much & it is made to show that he is the only guy on the face of the earth that is working so hard to provide for his family & is failing miserably? Another thing that I don’t really understand is that Iqra was the good child of her family & similarly Ayaaz is the good child of this family too, so why did the writer put these two awesome, good & pure souls into this never-ending financial misery which is taking them nowhere & is serving no purpose whatsoever? Like what is the purpose here, I am asking again? Ayaaz is taking care of his mother now so isn’t his mother’s prayer working in his favor that might turn his luck & bring him this jackpot that Sallahuddin hit in Mann Mayal, chalo if not something that huge but at least a decent ‘job’ where he would be able to buy his kid’s pampers the same day his wife reminds him about it?

Even a few episodes ago, all the conversations were making sense & had some meaning but throughout this entire episode where the focus was on grocery list & where all the dialogues included a mention of, kal ka bacha hua salan, doodh, anda, toast, paratha, gosht, bijli ka bill, puranay kapray, furniture, parday, pamper, tin food (which actually is known as a baby food FYI Nuzhat), baby’s formula milk, (hope I am not forgetting any item since it is so important) I was lost & couldn’t even bring myself to pay attention to their conversations or relate to how dire their situation was & how hard they were struggling because all these things are quite normal & nominal that every wife reminds about them to her husband so that he can fetch these things when he returns, so yeah, what’s the big deal about it? I was actually finding it hard to understand that someone could bring all these grocery items in a drama, not only write dialogues about it but also turn this non-issue into such a huge issue, like kya waqay hi hamare pass content ki itni kami ho gai hai? The way the grocery items are being discussed in Sehra Main Suffer, I fear that may be in upcoming dramas, we’ll also get to hear ke sabun, toilet tissues, toothpaste aur shampoo bhi kisi couple ke ghar se khatam ho jayeinge & they will end up fighting with each other!!!

Accha, I think Iqra’s ‘Sehra Main Safar’ refers to her job & career. She does a job & refers to it as Sehra as travelling in a desert is quite hard so just like it was made clear upon us in the beginning that Iqra finds it hard to work in an office, this is what her safar/suffer in sehra is going to be throughout her life where she will have to work time & again when she will succumb to the financial pressures instilled upon her by the writer, for no good reason. Sorry guys, this is just my honest opinion about these recent events that have taken place in this drama, however, I do understand that there are quite a lot of people who like this drama & for that, please feel free to disagree with my take on it & don’t hold back in sharing what you feel about it & how you find it realistic or good. For me, this episode was just like a morning show where the hosts & the guests do talk about a lottt of problems, but no one reaches to a conclusion. The preview also didn’t convince me with Iqra’s solution where she’d actually have to lie to her husband & work in order to make some money to afford the school fee of her kids!

Ayaaz is perfect in comparison to Shehryaar but seems like even he is unable to make Iqra happy. First it was Shehryaar’s beghairiti that forced her to do the job & now it is Ayaaz’s ghairat that is again forcing her to do a job & also lie to him on top of that? So, what’s the point here? Iqra was pressurized to work, by her father, her first husband & now because of the financial condition of her second husband, so what does it tell, like what’s the purpose of this drama here, ke larki ko job karni chahiye, nahi karni chahiye, husband jitna kamata hai us mai khush rehna chahiye yan har waqt muh phula ke rehna chahiye, husband push karay job karne ke liye tab nakhush rehna chahiye yan husband manah kare tab us se chup ke job karni chahiye aur us ke saath saath nakhush bhi rehna chahiye? Like crux kya hai bhai koi itna bata de bas??? LOL!!! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Sehra Main Safar (Sehra Main Suffer for me actually)!

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

A little prayer to reach the finale of this drama quickly:
‘Kar Thori Meherbaaniyaan, Rabbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’.

Tum Yaad Aye – Episodes 13 & 14

I think I might be on to something here. Seriously. A career in psychiatry. If the psychiatrists and diagnoses in our dramas are anything to go by – I think I may do a better job than most of the ‘top’ psychiatrists in the city! Unsunni, Sangat, Kisay Chahoon and now Tum Yaad Aye. Zainy is getting therapy done and apparently she is depressed! Depressed, ha! Spoilt and ‘na shukri’ as Mamoo correctly puts it is what she is! Ab apni diagnosis ka bill kis ko bhaijoon?!

Anyways, my career can wait a while. Back to Zainy & Co. Mehtaab shaken by Zainy’s suicide attempt vows to give Zainy whatever she wants – in this case, Ahmer. She goes to her old house and speaks to Tayyi who very clearly tells her that she and Ahmer have no such intentions of taking Zainy into their fold. Poor Mehtaab, it was clearly very difficult for her to go back to that house and additionally to ask for the rishta of her own daughter but she felt she needed to do that for Zainy’s sake. However, she does not share with Zainy what really transpired at Ahmer’s house. I thought we may finally learn Mehtaab’s ‘story’ but all we get to know is that the house in which Ahmer lives is really Zainy’s biological father’s house.

Zainy seems to think all is well with her and Ahmer but is given a rude awakening when she sees him and Beena on tv. Her screaming on the phone was cringe worthy but I am fast learning it was definitely in line with her character. Okay, I may understand feeling cheated in love and upset but why lash out at her mother now? Especially since they have given in and given their blessings for this match, grudgingly but given nonetheless. Ab Ahmer is a fellow brat like Zainy then how are Mehtaab, abba and Sherry to blame?!

Sherry’s comment to Zainy about her being like a bander hanging out the car window made me laugh. That scene was very odd I thought and I noticed the same again when Zainy is coming back from her phuppo’s house. The impression is given of a moving car but it seems more like a boat sailing and the background playing separately especially as there was that moment when Sherry was driving and a lorry was coming at him from the window and he swerved the wheel directly in the direction of the lorry which would definitely have resulted in a crash! No, I do not normally notice such minute details but the whole effect was so poor that having established Zainy as a bander hanging out the window my attention was then diverted to the background instead and that was when I noticed the lorry.

PIC 5

Now that Zainy knows what Ahmer really is, he can not care less and does not put up any show. Zainy is wallowing away in self pity, correction depression and I wondered at the whole typing scenario Abba put Zainy up to. However, when he catches her trying to pop pills again I really liked his conversation with her. I liked how he explained to her that things happen in life and he felt he has raised her to be a strong individual. Now that is a separate debate whether he really had raised her that way for he and Sherry had pampered her a lot and kept her quite hidden from the outside world. That does not clear Zainy of the blame of being immature and ungrateful though. I do not get this constant ‘why is everyone so bad to me’ whine. She even said it to Abba in that conversation. He tries to make her see there is more to life than letting one event drown you and encourages her to focus her thoughts and energy elsewhere and she takes on running and sports.

Which lands her at Ahmer’s house with that racket. That whole scene was a little overly dramatic but I still thought alright at least she has perked up and will hopefully begin to rid herself of Ahmer and any feelings she has for him. Alas. Zainy walks out triumphant with the house documents (which we later learn Mehtaab returns – what a fuss over nothing!). When Ahmer runs after her and she spits out how she hates him I thought how unconvincing she sounded but I suppose that is what we were meant to feel for even Ahmer says to her that he can still see she loves him.

PIC 3

So Zainy knows Sherry loves her. And brat that she is, she made a spectacle of him by using him to make Ahmer jealous. How does this girl’s mind work? I thought after the eye opening conversation with Abba and the racket scene she was ready to move ahead. But she has sunk to ‘I will show him I can get married first’ and dragging Sherry into the whole mess. I like how Sherry tells her off and puts her in her place at times but maybe they all need a much more firm hand with her. Pyar, reasoning, everything seems to fail with this girl! I really felt for her parents and Sherry because they really are trying to help her out in every way they can but to no avail. I even gasped when Mehtaab grabbed her arm and glared at her when she discovered the pills. Behind the ‘aap baitay’ , seems like even Mehtaab is beginning to lose patience now.

Zainy agrees to get married but on the condition that is engaged next week. It is quite obvious that she wants the engagement so that Ahmer can know she is engaged. Is she thinking that will make him want to come back to her? Phuppo and Mina apparently are not evil as I thought they may be. They were however aware of Ahmer’s nature and Beena’s existence and although Mina did warn Ahmer to stay away from Zainy, how much could they really do?

Next week’s preview shows Ahmer back in Zainy’s life. Is it just me or does anyone else think that he may try to get close to Zainy to get back at her for that racket she smacked on his face – or have I been watching too many dramas? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Kunwal Javid

Kisay Chahoon – Okay ji, Bye Bye jii!!

Well, well, well. All’s well that ends well. Ameer ko mil gayee Mehru and Hamza ko mil gayee Mareena – no, let me rephrase that. Mareena ko mil gaya Hamza. The past few episodes had me wanting to see this drama end and not be dragged out unnecessarily so I was relieved to learn the last episode would air on Thursday. Armed with that knowledge though when I sat to watch both episodes, I was reminded why I liked this drama in the first place and except for a few yawn Mareena-Dad-Hamza moments I did quite like the last episode.

Can I also please take credit for having guessed that Maryam was putting on an act? Up until these episodes I really liked Maryam’s character and she seemed so sensible so this sudden desire to marry Ameer knowing he loved Mehru was really odd and awkward. However, her expressions at times suggested she really was happy to marry Ameer so I was slightly confused. Slightly.

Mehru’s pained expressions, tears hovering at the brink of her eyes all made it quite obvious how she was feeling. But then her mother rightly said when her phuppo pointed out that Mehru looked worried keh agar woh pareshan hoti tau yeh naubat he na aati. Even though it was obvious she wants to be with Ameer I do wish we were shown a scene where she realizes that she can not ‘live’ without him as she says to him in the final scene. I know there were thoughts running through her mind when she signed the divorce papers but I don’t know, I wanted a bit more.

Mareena. She finally goes to see a psychiatrist who starts dishing out advice to her and I sat listening with an open albeit wary mind and thought okay not bad when he says to her that she should learn to control her anger. And then he throws in the trump card – have a baby! Professional psychiatrist hain yeh ya phir koi saas?! I am not sure what our drama writers think psychiatrists really are and what research goes into their ‘diagnoses’ and conversations when these dramas are penned. The psychiatrists in a few recent dramas such as Sangat, Unsunni and now this one failed to impress me.

Anyways, Mareena finally admits defeat but not before a final confrontation with Mehru. The scene between Mehru and Mareena was so awkward – poor Mareena truly did look psychotic. Meow! Mehru manages to convince Hamza that Mareena really does love him and he ‘forgives’ Mareena although I snorted out loud when he says to her please do not change the way you love me and aisay he pyar karti rehna. I thought okay, bring out the guns. Literally!

PIC1

Hamza’s return to Mareena seemed much less believable than Mehru and Ameer’s reunion. But nothing really makes sense about Hamza and Mareena so I suppose this was a fitting end to their story. Finit. The look of incredulity on Ameer’s face was spot on when Mehru asks him not to leave her but Soniya Hussain’s brimming eyes and on the edge asthma were very distracting. I felt her scene was overly intense to the point that it did not seem genuine and although their scene together was sweet it did not have as much an impact on me as I thought it would. Or maybe I am being over critical.

I did find one thing a bit odd. Hamza and Mehru both do not declare they are in love with their spouses. Fair enough, Hamza was hell bent on marrying Mehru till the last minute. And Mehru does say she does not know how to live without Ameer anymore. But Hamza says to Mareena that he needs her to keep loving him the way she does and Mehru also says to Ameer that I do not know where I would ever find anyone who can love me as much as you do. Ameer and Mareena’s love seemed to draw both Hamza and Mehru back to their respective spouses – I suppose it would take time for them to fall in love themselves too.

Ali Abbas has been the star of this drama. Kisay Chahoon itself was a very ordinary story but it made for a pleasant watch especially the first 10 episodes or so with Ameer’s comic moments. But when Ameer became a heartbroken bechara, the drama began to lose its charm which is why I am glad that it was not dragged out further and ended leaving me with the feeling that it was a decent drama. Iqra Aziz and Noor Hasan seem to be paired in a lot of dramas and frankly I do not want to watch any other drama which has these two in it. Soniya Hussain is a good actress but like I have mentioned before – her crying puts me off. Firdous Jamal and Pari Hashmi fit really well into their roles too.

This is the first drama I have been reviewing from the first episode to the last yayy. I would like to thank all the readers who took time out to comment and appreciate my reviews and shared their thoughts here. One thing is for sure – I will definitely not miss Ameer’s white kurta (how many did he have anyway?!) nor Mareena’s white clogs (I think it was the same pair throughout!!).

How many of you liked how the drama ended? Would love to hear your thoughts.

P.S. Any ideas which drama is replacing this one?

Mein Sitara – Episode 8

This episode belonged to Saba Qamar. She translated Sitara’s feelings brilliantly on screen. Sitara’s character has always been very powerful, the little girl with a big personality has grown into a young woman who believes in dreaming big.  Although there are many other important and primary characters in the story but right from the start the way Surraya (now Sitara) has grabbed the attention of the viewers goes to show that Mein Sitara has been written and directed brilliantly. Jharna’s character is very strong indeed and Aisha Gul has done complete justice to her role but gradually the focus of the story has shifted from Jharna and Farhad to Sitara. The developments in tonight’s episode were predictable mainly because the past 2 episodes focused on building up what was going to happen tonight.

ms1

Farhad chose Sitara as the heroine for his film chiefly because he wants to prove a point. Naseem Dil Ruba thought that she could bully Farhad into having her own way because she could never have guessed that Farhad would take such an extreme step. Her over confidence got the best of her and everything she did worked in favour of Sitara. Sitara went into shock when Farhad chose her as the heroine of his film. This scene was shot brilliantly; Sitara’s expressions, her body language and most importantly the flashback scenes went to show that she never ever even dared to dream this big. There was a time when she was rejected completely not by strangers but by her own family and now fate has put her in a situation where she can earn a big name for herself based on the same talent which was rejected and criticized over and over again.

Until the last episode Jharna and Farhad were on the opposite sides of the pole; Jharna wanted to prove that Sitara really was capable and Farhad did whatever he could to prove her wrong. Even though he realized Sitara had potential but he was bent on giving her a hard time. After tonight’s episode he will do whatever it takes to make her a star which will change everything for Sitara and perhaps for Jharna too. I must admit that I miss watching Jharna and Farhad’s scene in which they were shown sharing things with each other as husband and wife and not just business partners. It seems like Jharna and Farhad’s relationship has gone stale. There was a time when Jharna used to share her feelings with Farhad and he used to assure her that he loved her just as much as he did before but now things are different. Farhad is completely focusing on his film and till now Jharna was investing all her time and energy into finding out what was going on between Farhad and Naseem. Now that Naseem is out of the picture and Farhad is focusing on Sitara alone, I want to see how these dynamics change.

ms3

Sitara’s father’s reaction was not very surprising but his decision to go to Karachi definitely was not expected. I did not expect him to be this gutsy since he stole from these people but now that Sitara is the main heroine of Farhad’s film, his hands are tied therefore he might have to entertain these people.

There was a lot of shouting in tonight’s episode and rightly so too. Farhad shouted almost all through this episode which was justified. Mikaal Zulfiqar’s acting was effortless throughout. Saba Qamar acted brilliantly, she is a really good dancer too but Sitara’s loud make-up even when she was unwell and the missing duppata did not go well with the character since in the last episode we saw her making it clear that she was not going to compromise on her values. There is obviously going to be big change in her dressing and lifestyle now that she is one her way to stardom but in that particular scene in which she goes to give Farhad lunch the missing duppata did not make sense. This was obviously a minor glitch which can easily be ignored. Meera once again did complete justice to her role. Mein Sitara continues to be exciting and gives you something to look forward to.

The preview of the next episode showed Sitara’s parents turning up at Farhad’s door step. I am definitely looking forward to their meeting with Sitara. The preview also suggested that Farhad might start getting jealous of Sitara’s hero which means that he feels possessive about her! The next episode of Mein Sitara promises a lot of drama.

Iman Ali Is Dead Against Plastic Surgery

0

Iman Ali is not seen on talk shows very often but whenever she comes to a show she is always very honest while answering all the questions. Iman Ali could not be a part of Sanam Jung’s show in which Fahad Mustafa, Aly Khan and Anjum Shehzad came to promote their film Mah-e-Mir. Today she came to the show and she shared many things about the film and her personal likes and dislikes. Iman Ali is considered a style icon and many people love her for her talent and beauty. Iman Ali on the other hand doesn’t think she is very pretty. Talking on the show she said,

“I don’t think I am pretty. The camera and the directors make me look beautiful otherwise I am just like any other girl. I never got any kind of plastic surgery done to my face because I don’t like it. We see many actresses nowadays whose lips have gone from being small to medium and then extra large! There was a time when people used to appreciate models with full lips but now everyone has them unnaturally.”

iman

Iman Ali also loves food. She loves to eat and cook food. Quite surprisingly she is not like any other diva, she said,

“I don’t like shopping. I enjoy staying at home. I have complete faith that your success or failure depends on Allah but I believe that one should always do things which they think they can excel at.”

iman ali1

Talking about her character in Mah-e-Mir she said that it was a very mysterious character. She said that she took this role and this project only because of Anjum Shehzad because he is a gifted director. She said,

“This was supposed to be a small film, the sort which is made for showing in festivals but Anjum Shehzad’s direction has made it grand and now we are promoting it and showing it on national level.”

iman ali

Iman Ali also said that she is very selective about the projects she works in. Iman Ali is also the make-up artist for the film Mah-e-Mir. She said that her favorite look in the whole film was the one in the qawali song because she was wearing minimum make-up in it. Talking about herself she said,

“I have never posted selfies or pictures of myself on social media because I don’t love myself so much!”

Judai – Episodes 9-12 – Haye, my heartstrings!

Each of the previous four episodes had me wiping tears and sighing. Now whether I am getting senti in my old age (ooops, did I say old?!) or whether this drama really does tug at your heartstrings – I think I would opt for the latter. And not because I do not want to be called ‘old’. Haha. I was on the fence about this drama initially. It was interesting but just about. Cast good, production values good, OST great – but it did not lure you in. Yet out of curiousity to learn Hassan’s secret and how the characters were in turn related made me watch – until the 9th episode. Then, pure interest took over.

Gaiti’s (Saima) death totally took me by surprise. I had sort of written off the serial to be about the relation between the two widows and their children hence Gaiti’s death and therefore disappearance from the drama was surprising. Mehr has always been shown to be a compassionate woman. After her initial outrage over learning of Hassan’s other wife, her anger begins to dissipate as she uncovers the actual facts that led to the marriage and the nature of the marriage itself. She sees Gaiti and her children are not the gold diggers she may have at one moment imagined them to be or as Haider believes them to be. When Junaid informs her of Gaiti’s death, she does not waste a minute and flies to Lahore to meet Zaryan and Zaina.

Zaryan is awed to meet Mehr but Zaina has always been bitter about Hassan and his other family and wants nothing to do with Mehr. Mehr feels Zaryan and Zaina are the victims in all this and should be given their rightful inheritance which Hasan left them. Also, she feels upset that Gaiti had reached out to her before her death for her childrens’ sake. She wants to help them but Zaryan politely refuses any offers of help and manages to get a job which does not pay well and eventually loses both job and the rented house they lived in.

PIC1

Zaina has grown closer to Hamza and he proposes to her which she accepts. Hamza has told Haider about his lady lurrrve but he has not seen or met her yet. Haider, Alia and the crickets are up to no good as usual. Haider’s character while selfish is not uncommon where he feels he and Hamza are the only rightful heirs to his father’s wealth. At the times he expresses to Alia he may have been a bit rude to his mother etc, she makes sure to erase any nigglings of doubt in his mind. Sigh. In the latest episode, Hamza who had been kept in the dark about his father’s second marriage also learns the truth and his stance and thoughts are the same as Haider’s until Minahil speaks to him and makes him see everything from Mehr’s point of view.

Not an extraordinary story? Doesn’t have you jumping to catch up on the episodes or decide to watch it next week? I agree. While the story is still different because it focuses on a woman’s quest to do right by her husband’s ‘children’ or ‘responsibilities’ it is the way the whole situation has been dealt with and Samina Peerzada and Imran Aslam’s acting above everyone else’s that makes this drama so interesting. The two wives, saas-bahu plots, two brothers’ ka one love – have all been done to death and this drama throws in its two cents’ worth of the evil bahu and interfering in laws etc too but it offers so much more.

I have never been in awe of an actress as much as I am of Samina Peerzada. She was always an amazing actress but for me she stood out in Durr e Shewar probably because that was around the time I started watching dramas on a more regular basis. But here, I liked her in the initial episodes because it was so nice to see her as a graceful, compassionate woman and then how she reaches out to Zaryan and Zaina after Gaiti’s death. One may wonder does this really happen in real life? Does a woman really care about the children her dead husband chose to take under his protection? But when you look at the whole situation from Mehr’s point of view you see how she has a big heart and accepts that Hassan although was wrong to hide this from her, he did it with good intentions and scrap that, these children are guilty of absolutely nothing. They did not feed off Hassan’s wealth except to meet their needs and education and now with their mother gone and no financial assistance anymore they are truly alone in the world.

Zaryan and Mehr’s conversations were so heartfelt. I really like Zaryan’s character and I love how Imran Aslam has portrayed it. He has just the right amount of pride, gracious to accept Mehr wants to help but wanting to be self sufficient. Yet when the landlord throws them out, I was relieved when he left with Mehr and did not say something silly like ‘we will manage’ when clearly they could not! Zaina comes across as bit of a brat with Mehr but I like how Zaryan chides her each time and we realize that she is like this because she is bitter for she felt Hassan was her father although an absent father and well as long as she does not become an ultra brat or malicious – I can digest her character for now.

PIC2

Samina Peerzada’s expressions, her mothering instinct, how she would touch Zaryan’s hand or arm and treat him like he were really her own son were so natural and so spot on, I can not praise her enough. It is safe to say that Samina Peerzada and Imran Aslam are the stars of this show and had someone else tried to portray their characters I doubt they would have done justice the way these two have and neither would have Judai seem so interesting to me to watch. Faryal Mahmood as Minahil is surprisingly not annoying in this drama which is such a relief. I am quite fed up with Affan Waheed’s quivering voice in his emotional scenes and although Neelum Munir’s scenes with Imran Aslam are at times touching, she and Affan Waheed together almost put me to sleep. Even the seemingly romantic moment when Hamza proposes to Zaina did not have any impact on me. Thankfully the focus of this drama is not their story nor Haider and his wife rather of Mehr and how she tries to do right by Zaryan and Zaina while at the same time risking being criticized and facing opposition from her own sons.

I hope I am not meant to regret my words later as the drama progresses but at this moment I feel Judai is one of the underrated dramas on air. If the drama continues the pace at which it is now and does not drag out any unnecessary tracks, I am definitely interested to see what happens when Zaryan and Zaina come to Karachi with Mehr – if they do, that is. Haider hates the thought of them and I do not expect him to welcome them with open arms but how will Zaryan’s pride take Haider and Alia’s insults and jibes? How will Mehr manage to do right by all four of them.

Has anyone else been watching Judai and find it as good as I do especially after Gaiti’s death? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Pakistani Celebrities With Their Children – Pictures

A person’s life is incomplete unless he has a family who holds him dear. Most of our Pakistani celebrities are happily married. Some of these celebrities love sharing the pictures of their spouses and children with their fans but there are also some like Ali Zafar, Sarwat Gillani and even Reema Khan who do not like to share the pictures of their children especially. The reason for this can be that they do not want their children to be private property like they are. There are many celebrities who think it is the right of their fans to see the pictures of their children because the fans love them. It is always a pleasure watching these celebrities spending time with the children who they love and treasure. Some of these kids like Shahid Afridi’s daughters, Veena Malik’s children, Faysal Qureshi’s little daughter, Ayeza Khan and Danish Taimoor’s Hoorain and many others are seen so much that they are celebrities in this young age. People shower these children with love and good wishes. A parent’s love for their children is special which cannot be compared to any other.

Here is a compilation of pictures of some very well-know Pakistani celebrities with their children:

Tum Kon Piya – Episode 7

This was another interesting episode of Tum Kon Piya which changed my opinion about some of the characters. Ramish’s character is like a breath of fresh air. It has been a while since I watched and reviewed a drama in which a man thinks that the feelings of the girl he loves are just as important as his. Ramish is not a ghunda or a spoiled brat who is after a girl who does not want to be a part of his life or someone who forces her to marry him, Ramish did not think that because he was rich and good looking he could get any girl at all but he asked Elma before he went to her father with the proposal. Also, he is not a coward who lets the girl he loves get married to someone else because he does not have enough confidence in himself and neither is he someone who is going to believe whatever lies his parents tell him and spend the rest of his life blaming the girl instead of trying to figure out what actually happened! Ramish is sensitive, intelligent and he is also very brave. From the very first episode we have seen him taking a stand for the right things and this time around too he is right in taking a stand.

tkp

If this was any other drama Ramish would have fallen for his parents lies, the conversations between him and Elma would never have taken place and as a result he would have married Sunbal out of ‘retaliation’. What we got to see today was definitely not done-to-death – Elma told Ramish that his father was behind all this. I am glad that the writer did not bank on a never-ending misunderstanding to take the story forward. All of us already knew that Elma had all the characteristics to be the ultimate scapegoat, therefore the way she is acting on her father’s orders did not come as a surprise at all. It was however good to see Elma’s sister talking to her father. This was the first time that we saw one of her sisters doing something ‘useful’. Waqar Ali of course did not listen to her.

My opinion about Waqar Ali’s character has changed completely after watching this episode. He is willing to sacrifice his daughter’s happiness in order to make his boss happy – showing he is namak halal – which unfortunately is sad!!  At one time it was all about his integrity but now that is no longer the case, it just looks like he is going out of his way to please someone who never gave him an ounce of respect. He needs his job of course because he has a house to run but then this is more about keeping his job, making sure the boss gets exactly what he wants instead of looking out for his own daughter. The conversation which Elma’s sisters had about Zarbab’s mother and family made Waqar Ali’s character look even worse because if these girls could see that Zarbab’s family was greedy and his mother was a very controlling person than why did Waqar Ali not see all this?

tkp1

Javeria and her mother’s confrontation with Sharafat Begum and later on Javeria’s encounters with Zarbab were spot on. They went to show that Zarbab’s fears were real – Javeria wasn’t going to leave him alone or forgive him anytime soon. Arif has always been jealous of his brother because he gets more attention and respect in the house and now he has a problem with Elma’s status too. Something tells me that Arif’s jealousy will have a bigger role to play in the story because it has been highlighted in almost all the episodes.

Sunbal’s track has to be my least favorite one in this drama. She is pretty, intelligent enough, educated and comes from a good family then why is she letting Ramish walk all over her? I am sick and tired of watching these desperate girls who run after the hero like he is the last man on earth!

tkp2

Although I expected this drama to be slow and dull but so far Tum Kon Piya has been much better than many other plays on HUM especially which I have watched and reviewed lately. The credit for this goes to Maha Malik for giving us some interesting characters and for writing beautiful dialogues which show that you can say something that has been said a million times before in a brand new way. Yasir Nawaz has proved that he is a very creative director who knows how to make a drama with a very smooth screenplay. There is excessive use of background score in the drama but other than that the direction is top notch. All the actors are doing a commendable job. It is one of those very few dramas in which even the supporting cast is doing complete justice to their roles. Although Imran Abbas tends to be in a rush while delivering his dialogues sometimes but he has definitely made me connect to his character and feel for him.

Elma will get married in the next episode and the preview of the next episode showed a very insecure Sharafat begum making sure her son laid down the rules of the house for his new bride instantly. What Javeria said to Zarbab will probably turn out to be true! I did not like the part in which Waqar Ali tells his daughter that they were ‘paraye’ for her now – don’t like these dialogues or scenes at all!!!

Guzarish – Drama Review

For all Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s crooning kissi daaaaaaa yaar na bichrayyyyyyy through 25 episodes was worth – I am not sure whether kissi da yaar actually did bichar in the end! Who was really who’s yaar and did one particular yaar actually survive in the end? Produced by Six Sigma Plus, directed by Ovais Khan and written by Sanam Mehdi, Guzarish aired it’s last episode on ARY Digital last night. I have been following the drama from the start and if I felt at any point that the drama was dragging – I can not seem to recall that feeling now. A story with nothing extraordinary to offer yet somehow different, Guzarish made a pleasant watch due to the natural acting of its cast, decent storyline and direction.

Guzarish is the story of two young people, Zain (Ahmed Ali) and Zara (Yumna Zaidi) who are in love and engaged to be married. Zain’s older brother Jaffar (Ali Khan) is also engaged to be married to Zara’s sister Sara (Sara Ashraf), although theirs is an arranged match. The girls live with their father Aalam (Javed Sheikh) and although their widowed Phuppo (Saba Hameed) lives separately, she and her son Saad (Affan Waheed) are often at Aalam’s house. Phuppo apparently was never fond of her bhabhi and neither is she particularly fond of her nieces. Saad is in love with Zara but accepts she and Zain are in love and meant to be together and his mother is very adamant too that her son must never marry either of her nieces.

PIC1

Anyhow, a misunderstanding on the night of the nikkah causes Jaffar to break the engagement with Sara and despite Zara’s pleas to not create a scene nor cause problems in her relationship with Zain, he makes a huge fuss and makes his mother and Zain leave without having any ceremony done. Aalam is outraged too over Jaffar’s insults. Zain’s mother (Saba Faisal) has an accident and while she is in the hospital hovering between life and death, Zara tries to reach out to Zain. Upon Aalam’s insistence (read hukkum) and with Zain unresponsive due to worry over his mother’s condition and Jaffar’s unmoving stance, Zara is married to Saad, much to Phuppo’s despair.

What follows, is disappointingly a typical evil saas all out to make sure her son turns against the bahu and has her thrown out of the house. Despite Saad’s love for Zara, but with Zain’s constant presence somehow or the other in their lives, Saad succumbs to jealousy and suspicions and turns on Zara who finally has had enough and walks out of the house. She collapses and ends up at the hospital where Jaffar sees her and takes her home and Saad believing that Zara has gone back to Zain, wants nothing to do with her. All seems to have worked out how Phuppo envisioned except that Saad is then diagnosed with a brain tumor and by now he has learnt how his mother has played him and seems like the brain tumor has truly affected his brain because he feels the most fitting punishment for his mother would be to deprive her of the one person she loves the most – him. He refuses all treatment and shuts her out and Phuppo realizing how wrong she had been seeks out Zara for forgiveness and to bring her back to convince Saad to fight for his life.

A few other tracks play simultaneously in the drama and add to the story. However, thankfully their tracks did not take the focus away from the main leads which was a relief. Hina (Maha Warsi) is Zain’s khala ki beti and comes to Karachi for Zain’s wedding. She and her mother stay on when Zain’s mother is ill and then she begins to develop feelings for Zain which she openly expresses to him. I am often quite curious about this kind of love where you know the person you love madly loves another yet you claim your love is so deep you feel fulfilled just to know you can be with that person. Anyways, Hina and Zain are engaged and then not engaged and then umm, I lost track.

Jaffar apparently has been in love with a woman abroad for many years who falls for the charms of a younger man, Khurram. Khurram marries her as she is rich and he has financial troubles back home but he does not love her. Khurram however hides this part of his life and marries Sara. Khurram and Sabina have a son who ends up with Jaffar who has made it his purpose in life to protect this child.

PIC 2

What appealed to me the most about this drama was the refreshingly normal attitude of Zara. She was in love with Zain, true. But once she was married to Saad, she accepted the turn her life had taken and made an effort to make her marriage work. Normally the girl in this kind of situation in our dramas becomes a robotic person who erupts from time to time at the understanding new miyan, declaring her love for her old flame. Or, when the understanding miyan vows to deliver her to the love of her life, she realizes her understanding miyan was her true love. Yawwwwn! And Gaggg! I liked Zara’s positive attitude, how she did not whimper and weep over each of Phuppo’s insults and tried to bond with Saad. Also, in the scene when she leaves the house I liked how it did not become a meri baat tau sunain and at one point Zara took control and walked out herself. The fact that she collapses right after is a separate story uggh!

Zain however finds it harder to give up on Zara and I found myself relating to his character and his confusion too. He made a few silly decisions especially jumping into Zara’s life time and again when she made it clear that would only ruin things but given how he was in love with her I could see how he was not ready to give up even though she was married now. However, his immature actions did only end up making life difficult for Zara.

I rarely watch a drama which has Yumna Zaidi in the cast. Something about the way she talks and acts just does not sit well with me. But I will admit she has performed really well in this play. I felt for Zara. However her dialogues at times were a bit too preachy and made me cringe but overall I could not fault her acting. Ali Ahmed, Affan Waheed and Maha Warsi fit their roles perfectly but did not stand out. My favorite however had to be phuppo. Saba Hameed is an actress who fits into her characters so well you believe you are watching the character and not Saba Hameed. Her skeptical and scornful expressions and then her desperation as a mother were so spot on. When she reaches out to Zara I did not find it unreal or artificial and could totally relate to her personality change.

I also liked how although the ending is a happy one (I think), it took a few episodes to come to the point rather than dragging out the drama and then doing an about turn and turning everyone’s lives and personalities upside down within the last 40 minutes and lo and behold, all is well again. The viewers were kept wondering till the very last episode though who Zara will end up with eventually – Saad or Zain. Although not a masterpiece, Guzarish was a decent watch for me.

How many of you were watching Guzarish and rooting for Zara-Zain or Zara-Saad? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Nadia Khan’s Shocking Comments About Shah Rukh Khan

0

Nadia Khan is always very open about her feelings. She is not bothered about how what she says about others makes them feel. She is very often bashing Pakistani celebrities on her show. This time she bashed Shah Rukh Khan after she watched his latest film Fan.

Untitled

Nadia Khan said that Shah Rukh Khan was his own biggest fan. She said that the way he promoted his films was cheap. She said that people criticized the games that are played on shows like Inaam Ghur but the kind of games which Shah Rukh plays on shows just to promote his films are even worse. She also said that tolerating Shah Rukh Khan for 3 hours was an ordeal because he is so impressed with his looks and with himself in general.

nks1

Every time Nadia Khan criticizes someone or something she tends to get very personal and same is the case here. She had the choice of commenting on the film and sharing her thoughts about Shah Rukh’s performance in it but she is seen making personal comments by calling him cheap and self-obsessed.

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 08!

Ohkay so, it was one cracking episode & I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. This is for the first time that I felt the KRQ charm in comparison to all the previous episodes of Zara Yaad Kar that I have seen so far & I say this because my favorite character from the lot got enough coverage to say what we all wanted to hear. Even though not much happened in this episode, but the major thing that happened was given a well-deserved screen-time because we needed to see all the reactions associated to the game changing decision of Mahnoor & I must say, the way the writer wrote & the director directed the reactions of each & every character was ‘spot-on’.

Mahnoor definitely is someone who has no insight whatsoever. She is someone who lacks basic judgement one has when it comes to judging the people you’re surrounded with. All the things she said to Waqar which implied Haadi as a ‘kamina’ went to show that she never really understood who her husband, Haadi was & how he was like because if she had a tad bit of a sensibility, maturity & wisdom, she would’ve known that Haadi was one of those guys who’d do anything or might as well go to any extreme but would never ever hit or harm a girl in their entire life, & it surely was a mindless assumption on her part. I am amazed that Mahnoor is ready to go to such lengths based on something that she has no solid reason for. She has never ever heard it from Waqar that he intends to get married to her & there she is, sacrificing everything thinking that she has bagged herself her Mr. Perfect!

Uzma didn’t show the signs of distress at the things she heard from Mahnoor about herself & Haadi, that is why she was able to give Haadi the courage he needed by telling him that he could & he should forgive Mahnoor. This is probably the first time that I liked what I heard from Uzma in regards to Mahnoor & Haadi’s relationship. Very effortlessly she made him understand that a man can be insincere too & can still expect his wife to forgive him, so now if he is at the dead end, he can pave a way out of this by resorting to forgiveness. Haadi was definitely disturbed but he got his head together & mustered up enough courage to forgive his wife if he’d find her apologetic but what he heard shook his ground!

I loved everything that Aneesa said to Mahnoor in this entire episode. She was quiet but she was planning it all along as she could foresee what her daughter was going to put her up with. Aneesa knew that Mahnoor was getting out of control, that is why like a helpless mother, she did what she deemed fit in a hope that at least something that she’ll say will make her daughter realize how she is blatantly playing with fire. When Aneesa saw that her indirect taunts weren’t enough for Mahnoor, she forced herself to confine Mahnoor in her room, thinking that at least it will show her daughter that her mother would never approve of what she was hoping for.

Haadi actually thought that Mahnoor will apologize to him but what she said was something that he, never in a million years would have imagined. The reaction of Aneesa, followed by the blank expression of Haadi was spot on. Haadi couldn’t believe what he just heard his wife say & left in a disbelief yet hopeful enough that this might be a nightmare that might get over soon. The way Haadi went to the confectionery shop to get what Uzma asked for went to show that what just happened to him started to sink in & Haadi was ready to deal with it his way!

“Mohabbat ki aik se ziyada daleel nahi hoti, aur bewafai ke sau se kam bahanay nahi hote”, just beautiful! Coming to the show down between Aneesa & Mahnoor, I was most certainly blown away & all those slaps that Aneesa placed on Mahnoor’s cheeks made me ask for more because this is exactly what a mother should do when her daughter loses the plot & this is exactly what a daughter should receive when she decides to bring a bad name to her family. “Haq lena apna, aur batana appne Waqar ko ke tumhare liye kiss tarhaan bewaqaar ho ke ai hoon”, without even hearing a word from Mahnoor about why she took that decision & what made her ask for a divorce, Aneesa just exactly knew what was running through her daughter’s mind & isn’t it just amazing because recently we’ve only seen those mothers who are well-aware of the feelings of even the kid that might be playing in the neighborhood park, but she is completely oblivious to what her daughter is feeling & is going through. That is why, I found it brilliant that Aneesa didn’t need to hear anything from Mahnoor & knew exactly who she was doing all this for. I am really glad that the writer here showed what exactly mothers are capable of as they are never unaware of their children’s feelings, emotions & sufferings & that is why, even though the situation Aneesa is faced with is gnarly, she has made it possible for us to understand her & feel for her character. The way Aneesa pushed her daughter Mahnoor out of her life & broke down went to show that she was holding onto the last bit of courage she had in her in order to take such a big decision & when she was done with it, she cried at her misery hysterically. What a beautifully written character I must say!

Well, we got to know that Gaitiara not only confessed her feelings to Waqar & has now even started relying on him because all those questions that she asked Waqar about Umerkot, went to show that she wanted to hear everything from him, even if it might show her the bad side of her father, she was ready to do that, why, because she takes Waqar to be an honest & straight forward person & in such a short span of time, Gaitiara has started to believe that if there’s one person she can depend on, it is Waqar. Well, the smiles that Waqar threw back at Gaitiara went to show that he was ecstatic at her confession & wouldn’t mind forming a bond with her. Well, it was good to know that Gaitiara & Waqar’s conversations will now have a little more meaning as the writer tried to convey a message about the politician’s selfishness & the sufferings of the nation due to these leaders. Let’s see how Gaitiara will change & challenge the system set by her father with the help of Waqar.

The preview of the next episode actually got me looking forward to it. After seeing Aneesa’s reaction in this episode, I thought that Haadi had finished everything off but looks like he hasn’t divorced Mahnoor yet & will be speaking to Uzma about it. I am actually looking forward to see how Waqar will ditch Mahnoor when she will cross the boundary & step into his zone. The dialogues of this episode were spot on & were written & delivered perfectly. All the actors, especially Saba Faisal, Sana Javed & Zahid Ahmed did a wonderful job but Saba Faisal takes the crown, hands down. She is the saving grace of Zara Yaad Kar for me & I love her acting, her expressions, her tone & her dialogue delivery. Aneesa is going to be a very memorable character for me I am sure of that. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Qandeel Baloch always finds ways to get the attention of the media. This time she came from Karachi to Lahore to attend Imran Khan’s jalsa. The leading news channels interviewed her to ask what she intended to do. Qandeel informed the media that she was going to go to the stage and present a ring to Imran Khan who she loved and admired. She said that she can do anything for Imran Khan, coming from Karachi to Lahore was nothing.

Qandeel however was heartbroken when she could not get access to the PTI leader. First she went to his house where the guards did not let her in. Then also in the place where the jalsa was being held she was not allowed to get in because she said that she did not know she needed passes to be a part of this jalsa! Qandeel Baloch was seen sobbing and crying after being unable to fulfill her desires.
