On Wednesday the Supreme Court of Pakistan took notice of “objectionable content” being shared on YouTube. The top court also hinted at shutting down YouTube in Pakistan and issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan and the Foreign Ministry.
It was during the hearing of a case against suspect Shaukat Ali, involved in a sectarian crime that Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin and Justice Mushir Alam stated that YouTube and social media users were targeting our their families after certain decisions by the court. It was also said that masses were provoked against judiciary and other state institutions of the country through objectionable content on YouTube.
Alright the court hinted at a Youtube ban and the hearing was adjourned for an indefinite period of time, Pakistanis celebrities came out voicing their concerns regarding an impending ban on the world’s biggest video platform.

Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin and Justice Mushir Alam were on the bench today. According to judges YouTube contains content against government, armed forced and judiciary.
Justice Amin passed his remarks: “We are not against freedom of expression and masses have right to discuss our performance ans decisions as we take salaries from public money but the constitution also provides us right of personal life but users of social media and YouTube are targeting out families”

After SC’s orders PTA issued notices to the social media company under the law to moderate the socialization and content within legal and moral limits in accordance with the law of the country.
Justice Mushir Alam said the no content against United States and Europe can also be shared on YouTube.
It is not the first time that issue of banning YouTube in country is raised. In 2008 PTA banned YouTube in Pakistan because of a number on non-Islamic objectionable videos on it. After a few days ban was removed because the website removed the content on demand of Government of Pakistan. In 2010 PTA imposed ban on YouTube and many other websites in a bid to contain blasphemous material. The ban was removed after a few days as the website removed objectionable content. In 2012 YouTube was banned again in Pakistan for not removing an anti-Islamic film made in United States. This time YouTube remained banned in Pakistan for years. n 2016 after 4 years the ban was finally lifted as YouTube launched its the local version for Pakistan.

We see different viral videos on the internet but recently a horrible and shocking video has gone viral on the internet.
In the video, a son is beating his mother over property and cash issue. The video has been shared by Zoobia Meer and it is her mother who is being beaten by the brother Arsalan.
Zoobia Meer shared a video and said, “I made this video because nobody believes. I want justice and we reported in the police but they released him after an hour. After the incident, I took my mother to the hospital with 1122 and behind our back, they took away the rest of the stuff.”
They beat me and my mother after that, my mother took viper and broke his car. My mother fainted and our neighbours took us into their homes,” she added.
Zoobia Meer clearly said in her statement that police has not taken any action and she wants justice.
This video is top trending on Twitter and people are furious over the whole incident.
Zoobia Meer’s mother in an interview said that there is no chance of forgiveness. The mother wants her son and daughter-in-law to get punished so that no mother has to bear this in future.

Most of the Pakistani dramas revolve around women. Unfortunately, most of the time these women are presented as weak characters who are most often subjugated. There are other dramas that show how a lively young girl turns into a helpless creature once she gets married or is overpowered by her circumstances. There are only a handful of recent Pakistani dramas that have shown women as strong individuals. While the subjugation of women is a reality in Pakistan, there are also so many such women who are fighting against injustices and winning. There are also those who have a strong support system and therefore these girls grow up to be strong individuals.
It won’t be wrong to say that Pakistani dramas thrive on presenting women as the weak ones. Although the stories revolve around them, the writers are most often barred from penning down female characters who are too strong because they are afraid the general public might not like them! There however are a few writers who are not afraid of showing women who are independent, in control, intelligent and progressive.
A strong female character is not one which is never presented by difficulties but it is one which when presented with a difficult situation handles it wisely and does not compromise on her values. And obviously strength is a positive trait therefore all those conniving females we watch in our dramas who exert all their energy in putting other people down are definitely not the kind of characters that would be appropriate for this list.
A strong female character is one that is positive and does not compromise on her principals. At the same time, she is not void of feelings and is able to balance her relationships.
Here are some of the most strong and likable female characters from recent dramas.
Washma (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Washma is not the central character in Pyar Ke Sadqay but she has throughout been one of the best characters in the drama. It is rarely ever that the viewers get to see such characters on screen. Washma is a strong, positive, and intelligent young lady who is wise beyond her years. Her life experiences did not make her bitter but on the contrary, they helped her deal with people in her life according to a given situation. Washma is someone who is always on the right side, she is not afraid to speak her mind and she has some vulnerabilities as well which makes her character easy to relate to and human.
The way Washma has stood by Mahjabeen’s side even though her own brother and mother have turned against her goes to show what a strong character she has. Srha Asghar has brought this character to life by making Washma look like the most feisty and caring woman we have seen in dramas in a long time. The character has been written down perfectly and Srha Asghar has done complete justice to it.
Lalla Rukh (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Pyar Ke Sadqay might have the most unlikeable female character like Mansoora but it also has another strong and likable female character such as Lalla Rukh. Although this character did not get a lot of screen time, it is safe to say that it has a definite screen presence. Lalla Rukh is an independent, compassionate, gentle, and positive woman who has been more than just a phupo to Washma. She is a mentor, someone who always gives the right advice on whether someone wants to hear it or not. Even though Mansoora got married to the man she loved, she has forgiven and moved on.
Lalla Rukh is one of those few strong females we have seen in our dramas lately who stand up for others more than they do for themselves. We rarely get to watch women like her who live independently and do not need a man to save them. This is the best character played by Sharmeen Khan to date, she also adds more meaning to this character by translating it on screen in such a gentle manner.
Ramsha (Dushman-e-Jaan)
Ramsha is another strong female character who unfortunately did not get a lot of screen time. Although Ramsha’s character died in the first few episodes, the impact she left was lasting. She was shown as an unapologetic, focused, confident, compassionate daughter and sister. Her no-nonsense attitude along with the responsibilities she was doing justice to even though it wasn’t easy given her character the edge it needed. In a few episodes, only Ramsha turned into one of the favorite characters in the drama. We definitely would love to see more such female characters in our dramas.
Dua (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ehd-e-Wafa had so many progressive and strong female characters. Dua’s journey in the drama started when she was only a student and it ended with her impressive career in the armed forces. Dua’s character had so many strengths. She knew how to balance relationships and when to speak out. When her father passed away, she was the one who took up the difficult task of taking care of her mother without any help. Her reaction when she found out that she was adopted, also showed the strength of her character.
Even as a teenager, Dua was shown as someone who could see where she needed to focus. She did not just grow herself in her career and as a person but she also helped Saad do the same. As a working woman, she was determined and her vulnerabilities made her character even more likable. This was the best character played by Alizeh Shah because throughout her career she has been typecast as a victim.
Ramsha (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ramsha was another female character that we rarely get to see in Pakistani dramas. She was educated, outspoken, full of confidence, and a go-getter. She represented all those Pakistani women who are just as capable of playing an active role in media as men. Just like all the other strong female characters in this list, Ramsha was also a woman with a definite purpose in her mind.
There was a sensitive side to her but she was always practical and candid unlike some of the other females in the list. Hajra Yamin was extremely convincing in this role, she made this character much more pleasing to watch on screen.
Faryal (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Saad’s mother Faryal was another progressive and strong female character. She was shown as a working woman who was also a wise mother. She helped out people in need at her clinic and outside her clinic, she was a wonderful human being. She accepted Dua as her own daughter and when Saad left for his mission, she held on to hope and positivity.
She was an ex-army man’s wife and she knew what was at stake when she got her son enrolled in the army. She was such a strong woman that there were so many times when her son also derived strength from her. Vaneeza Ahmed was the perfect choice for playing the role.
Momina (Alif)
Momina from Alif did not have a perfect life, there were so many hardships that were faced by her yet she fought with everything bravely right till the end. Momina had her weak moment, she also had her vulnerabilities but she never lost sight of what she needed to achieve in life. She was shown as a young girl with great strength of character, someone who did so much for her family, and in the end, too she made decisions that were meant for the betterment of the people she loved and not herself.
Momina’s entire journey was inspiring in so many ways. It showed how a female character can be strong even against all odds. Sajal Aly portrayed this character and its different shades remarkably well on screen.
Shanzay (Ghalati)
Shanzay was one of the most assertive, sensible, and practical female characters we saw in recent Pakistani dramas. She had so many strengths and for a change, the writer did not hold back while showing a woman questioning every single unacceptable expectation from her. She refused to be a victim and made sure that she showed her mother-in-law the mirror.
Right from the start, Shanzay’s practical side was the most attractive element of her character. She also had a sensitive and caring side to her which is why she did not just fight for herself but also for Zaira in a way. This character sent such a good message to all the girls out there, the writer through this character told the girls not to settle for less! Mehar Bano performed brilliantly throughout. She fit so well in this role.
Hajra (Inkaar)
Inkaar was a drama that was inspired by true events therefore Hajra’s character was the most endearing one on this list. Hajra went through an entire trial after her ex-boyfriend tried to kill her. She had her weak moments and had to bear with so much. With the help of her father and male friend, she managed to get through this difficult time. The scenes covering Hajra’s question-answer session during the trial showed her strength and her vulnerabilities at the same time. Hajra’s entire journey was covered so well and it was shown convincingly how she develops into such a strong individual.
Yumna Zaidi’s exceptional performance definitely added to the appeal and impact Hajra’s character had. We rarely see girls from such households on television showing this kind of strength.
Noori (Ranjha Ranjha Kardi)
Noori was one of the most layered strong female characters we have seen in Pakistani dramas. There are few writers who are comfortable with creating such realistic character which is strong but are not free of flaws. Noori was always strong even when she was just a girl who picked trash for a living, even then she had certain dreams and ambitions. She never wanted to get married to a rich man, she wanted to get an education and earn her own living.
Noori went through some really difficult times as the story progressed and even though she had some of the weakest moments, Noori always was strong enough to face everything that came her way.
It is definitely delightful when our writers show females as strong individuals who do not always rely on men and are not victims. We love watching such independent and self-reliant women in dramas. Feel free to add more names to the list.

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Kashf focused on the emotional battles that Kashf was fighting on her own. Although in her family, Kashf is made to feel like she is the decision-maker but the reality is completely different. This is something that Kashf herself knows but because she feels so strongly for her family members, she finds it hard to not share her fears & inhibitions with them. The story of Kashf may seem one-dimensional but at this stage, it has been established that it is more about the shifts in behavioral patterns of the people Kashf is surrounded with, which is what makes it a very interesting watch.
Kashf’s Emotional Struggles
Kashf found herself in an awkward situation when she foresaw what might happen with both Irum & Ashi. Kashf also has seen that Matiullah will try his best to harm Imtiyaz’s family & their business. However, because the lady who was sent by Matiullah got exposed, Kashf & in fact, nobody else is ever going to imagine that eventually, everything that Ashi & Irum will face will be a revenge plan devised by Matiullah.
The highlight of this episode for me was how Kashf figured everything out on her own. She also started second-guessing herself because she too believed that maybe not all of her dreams materialize but she was made to realize that although there was a possibility of that happening, she should focus more on the fact that the dreams she sees do end up turning into a reality. This was enough for Kashf to take a stand to save her sister from ruining her life but then again, at this point, Kashf is merely a provider for them & nothing else.
It is unfortunate that nothing that Kashf says or does has any effect on her parents or sisters because, for the first time in their lives, they all are at this stage where they are thinking independently about themselves. This also goes to show that the financial ease also creates an emotional divide & a gap between the close-knit families, because they move past the stage where they all are in the same boat & share the same struggles. Ever since Kashf’s family has started seeing the financial ease, they have turned a blind eye towards her. This too is something that Kashf has foreseen but the way the writer has developed the story & has brought it to this stage is commendable.
In these episodes, it was also elaborated how Kashf’s family was now only concerned about what she could do for them financially because even when she shared her dreams & her concerns related to Irum’s future, none of her family members paid heed to it. It is ironic because her father makes money on this particular ability of hers but when it comes to their own personal matters, her dreams hold no weightage. Dilshad too has become aloof to Kashf’s feelings. It was interesting to note that Dilshad did show her concerns to Kashf & made her feel that she was going to be there for her but eventually, their conversation again became related to all the demands Dilshad expected Kashf to fulfill. I must say, props to the writer & the director for keeping it very subtle but even than painting the picture with clarity of how the attitudes have completely changed.
To be honest, I did not expect Ashi to do something like this – inviting Aqmal into her room behind her family’s back. Ashi has a right to choose her life partner & she has a compatibility with Aqmal but this was a bit unlike her to behave with such immaturiy. However, this goes to show how desperate she is that she has stopped thinking about right & wrong & just wants to show Aqmal that she is more than willing to get married to him. Ashi & Irum are pretty much living in the bubble but in contrast, Kashf is feeling anxious because she can sense something is not right.
Another dream, another reality – Fayyaz passed away & Kashf had already told Wajdan about it. Although it was a tragic incident for their entire family, it was still an eye-opener for Kashf to know that she should have faith in her dreams, therefore she should at least do something to prevent her sister’s life from getting ruined. It didn’t surprise me much when I saw the changed attitude of Irum, she was the one who used to feel a lot for Kashf but then again, she is in love, she is immature & therefore, she won’t believe Kashf till she will eventually face the reality that she was warned about.
Hira Mani should be extremely proud of herself for doing justice to a character like Kashf. Each & every emotion has been portrayed with such clarity that you can’t help feel for her. Kashf is all alone & it is unfortunate that there’s no one who is ever going to understand what she feels. Although she does have Wajdan but he too will succumb to the pressures. It’s not just the battles that Kashf has to fight related to the personal affairs of her family members, she is now being made to do things that she does not agree with, such as handing over taweez – this is something that is taking her inner-peace away from her. The way Kashf asked that woman to pray for her forgiveness was enough to show how guilty she felt for doing something she knew was wrong but then again, she knew it was going to bring in the money her family is in need of. After seeing all this, I wonder if her family will ever understand or realize how much Kashf has done for them? What she went through to feed their desires? I would love to see that & I hope the writer makes that aspect of the story worthwhile, but at this stage seeing her do all the heavy lifting is saddening.
Brilliantly Executed
The story of Kashf continues to impress & it keeps on getting better. The overall tracks & progress have been tackled brilliantly but what I actually enjoyed a lot more was seeing minute details which shed a light on how things have changed in Kashf’s household – gold earrings of Dilshad, her new and improved clothing, the change in their meals, the way Kashf ate her food which showed that because her father made her sit in Asthana for long hours, she became quite hungry. Subtle expressions of Wajdan noticing how Zoya was trying to impress his parents by going out of the way, these minute details add a lot more depth in every situation which makes every scene interesting enough to keep you hooked to it. It also shows the skillfulness of Danish Nawaz as a director who has paid so much attention to detail.
Hira Mani definitely has been carrying this entire drama on her shoulders & all the actors who are playing supporting characters too have contributed a lot in making it a complete package. I really enjoy Dadi’s scenes, it is actually cute that her character has been used to bring some comic relief in an otherwise very intense & grim drama. Kashf is a complete package & I can not wait to see what’s in store for us. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Kashf.

Now, after the wedding, Falak Shabbir finally opened up about their relationship and how everything happened in an exclusive interview with Irfan Ul Haq. Falak shared the story and it has increased Sarah’s and Falak’s respect more than ever in our eyes.
“It was at the 2019 Hum TV Bridal Couture Week where Sarah was a showstopper that we met properly,” shared Falak adding that he had asked Sarah and Noor to join him for tea at the hotel while they were passing by.

I didn’t say I love you or anything, I just directly said I want to do a nikkah with you, marry you, tell me how it can happen,” added Falak further revealing that he had to fly to Lahore to Sarah’s house to meet her father.

“She has no restrictions right now, and neither will she have any after marriage. I believe that we have our elders to guide us and love us, and if they’ve never put restrictions on anyone – who am I to do it? Whatever Sarah wants, I am always with her,” said the singer.

The phrase kabab mein haddi is commonly used by people who speak Urdu. It won’t be wrong to say that it is the most ‘popular’ Urdu phrases. It essentially means that when someone is not wanted yet they insist on being around. It could also refer to someone who does not allow two people who are romantically involved to have quality time together. It is used for fun and also out of frustration! Some people become kabab mei haddi unknowingly and others make a special effort to make sure that they serve this purpose! In Pakistani dramas, these kabab mei haddis are usually the ones who play a key role in ensuring that two people who are in love don’t get their happy ending easily. It is safe to say that most of the Pakistani dramas are incomplete without these characters.
When you are eating a delicious and soft kabab and all of a sudden a haddi (bone) interrupts your enjoyment, what do you do? You throw it out! It definitely ruins the kabab eating experience and there is a fear at the back of your mind that there might be another haddi which would make your kabab eating experience rather annoying! Well therefore a kabab mei haddi in a non-literal sense is always annoying. It is even more so in our dramas because Pakistani dramas sometimes take the haddis more seriously than the kababs! Think of these writers as those cooks who want to consciously feed these haddis to their viewers while they eat the kababs! I am sure you get my message.
There are so many times when you want this haddi to have a downfall or to just disappear so that our beautiful kababs (hero and heroines) can get more happy time together. Unfortunately, in Pakistani dramas that is most often not the case since these haddis are quite hard and not easy to digest for the viewers.

Shanzay (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Shanzay is the most annoying example of kabab mein haddi who ruined a perfectly workable relationship between two people who loved each other so much. Had she not been in the picture, Abdullah and Mahjabeen could have had a great life together. After her own marriage did not work out, Shanzay decided it would be perfectly fine for her to work her way into Abdullah’s life again. Like many other kabab mein haddis in this list, she also used extreme measures to ensure that Abdullah is convinced. If it wasn’t for her suicide attempt, the viewers could have enjoyed watching Abdullah and Mahjabeen’s relationship grow stronger on screen.
Sarwar (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Sarwar has to be one of the most evil names in this list. Although all these individuals who play the role of kabab mein haddis are negative, Sarwar takes this negativity to a whole new level!
