Ohkay so, this episode focused on how the responsibilities were being allocated to Kashf & she wasn’t surprised, or was she because she had seen it all & her father did not disappoint her. This entire episode yet again highlighted how Kashf was a dutiful daughter who couldn’t imagine going against her family because her dreams had already indicated that this is what her fate was going to be, she was just going with the flow.
Another Dream, Another Reality
Ashi Pupho’s character definitely has to be the strongest of the females of the family. She is not only opinionated but is someone who doesn’t mind taking charge of the situation, despite knowing that there’s not much that she can do. Ashi tries to rectify the situation but unfortunately, in the end Imtiyaz continues to be the decision maker who has assigned this duty to himself.
The episode began with an aged man coming to see Kashf for marriage with his daughter. This was something absolutely shocking for the entire family, however Kashf had this satisfaction because she knew Imtiyaz would call it off. The entire sequence where no one could decipher what Kashf was trying to say about her dream was phenomenal because it actually showed how she is on a different level & that even those who love her will find it difficult to understand her. My favorite moment of this entire episode was when Imtiyaz sent the suitor away & then Kashf turned to look at her father. Was it the first time she was seeing through her father or this did not shock her because this is what she expected from him.
A little more insight was given into Matiullah’s character but before that, the way they have introduced him being an abusive husband to Ashi has established the fact that he is a hypocrite; a two faced person who didn’t mind mistreating his wife but continued to sell religion & his carefully fabricated image in order to make the money. It was clear, for Matiullah, this is a business & now, Kashf was the perfect candidate to expand his business. The person who has informed Matiullah about Kashf was basically planted by him as a spy in Qari Sahab’s madrasa because this way, he would find out what Qari Sahad used to do & what was it in him that attracted more & more people to him. Matiullah proposed a deal to Imtiyaz & because he saw it as a profitable opportunity, he didn’t think twice.
The rest of the sequence which showed how Imtiyaz continued to allot one responsibility after another on Kashf was brilliantly done. It showed that now Imtiyaz was finally going to be his ideal self because he had hit the jackpot, whereas Kashf’s life, her dreams, every fragment of her imagination was falling apart, yet she stayed calm & composed because she knew, this is exactly what was in store for her. This is another reason why she doesn’t find Zoya’s antics & meanness hurtful because she exactly knows the reason why she behaves in such a way!
Wajdan & Ashi have the best interest of Kashf along with her mother but as Wajdan said, only if Kashf will give him an edge, he will do what it takes to make everything right. The conversation that Kashf & Wajdan had was well-written. Although Kashf is not going to go against her father, she knows exactly how she is going to protect herself. She has drawn a line & she will never ever let anyone cross it, at least this was one assurity that she gave to Wajdan.
Brilliant Episode
Hira Mani has always been a very strong performer & I have enjoyed watching her acting since Preet Na Kariyo days & it is commendable that even after doing so many projects, she continues to impress & showcase that she has so much to offer as a performer. Undoubtedly, no one else could’ve done justice to the character of Kashf like Hira Mani has done.
Waseem Abbas was the star of this episode; every minute expression, all the dialogues that he delivered showcased the kind of mentality he as a father & a husband possessed. This sort of flawless performance is already expected from an actor of Waseem Abbas’s stature, however the way he has embraced the character of Imtiyaz showed that he understood its psyche and enjoyed portraying it. The change in his body language after he sealed the deal proposed by Matiullah was so enjoyable to watch because like he said, he already had a clear picture in mind of how his life was going to change after the money would start pouring in; something that he was waiting for all his life. The rest of the actors especially Munazzah Arif & Hajra Khan also continued to impress. Junaid Khan has done a brilliant job as Wajdan.

“I instantly messaged her on Friday night, telling her to give me credits but she didn’t respond. The video was up on her page and when I saw she hadn’t credited me the next day either, I uploaded the original version. But it was too late, people thought I had copied her voice!” Nimra Rafique said.
After this huge mess, Nimra Khan spoke to The Express Tribune and clarified, “I had no intentions of stealing her voice and making it my own. I make several TikToks and upload them without crediting whose voices I’m lip-syncing. I never thought this would be such a big issue. I honestly got busy because my father in law was unwell and credited her when I found out it had turned into an issue.”
Nimra Khan gave credits and now she has deleted the video from her Instagram handle. She further said that Nimra Rafique is her friend and she uploaded that video after seeking her permission.
Khan said, “She only told me to credit her when she saw how viral my video became. Not before that.”
However, Nimra Rafique agreed that gaining followers was part of the agreement but initially she didn’t get any credit for it.

Turkish series Ertugrul Ghazi (Dirilis Ertugrul in Turkish) which has been dubbed in Urdu for Pakistanis has turned into a massive hit. There is barely anyone who is not following the drama. While some people are enjoying watching it in Urdu, there are so many others who have already completed watching an entire season on other platforms. This is not the first time that a Turkish serial got so much appreciation in Pakistan. When Turkish dramas were aired for the first time in Pakistan a few years back, no one could have guessed that they would get such an overwhelming response.
At that time, many celebrities, as well as Pakistani producers, started a movement against airing Turkish dramas on prime time. They were of the opinion that such a decision would hurt the Pakistani drama industry which was just recovering from the onslaught of Indian dramas. Pakistani producers definitely see Turkish dramas as competition. Once they are dubbed in Urdu, their reach and fan following cannot be limited.
One thing is for sure that Pakistanis like watching foreign content. Even though the celebrities think airing foreign dramas in Pakistan is a move that does not help the industry, the people at the helm of affairs definitely do not think so. The people of Pakistan also, obviously welcome such moves by giving such dramas massive viewership. Even with all the opposition a year after Turkish dramas had first gone on air on Pakistani channels, seven Turkish series was being aired on prime time on various channels in Pakistan.
PTV home is not even considered a competitor when we talk about Pakistani dramas. There was a time when there was no channel other than PTV, those days are long gone. There is tough competition now and clearly PTV failed to provide the viewers with the kind of dramas that would keep them hooked. The channel which was considered the pioneer of Pakistani dramas is now airing a Turkish series dubbed in Urdu. Not only this, but they are also going to break a world record very soon because of this Turkish series! Due to the viewership which Ertugrul Ghazi brought with it, PTV’s YouTube channel’s subscriptions have soared and every episode of the series breaks the rating charts.
It is safe to say that the Pakistani viewers have given their verdict. They love this new Turkish series and they would definitely not mind watching a few more such Turkish dramas. Shaan Shahid, on the other hand, has once again shown his displeasure with the decision. Jibran Nasir too shared his thoughts on the issue. But guess what! The Storylines
Ertugrul Ghazi’s storyline is not only brand new for the Pakistani fans but it is also really well written. Even those viewers who have seen 100 plus episodes of the series, find it difficult to not tune in to a new episode every day! While most Pakistani dramas focus on relationships, marriages, family politics, and love stories, Ertugrul Ghazi deals in its entirety with historical figures shaped up the Muslim world thousands of years ago. Even if Pakistani writers and producers choose to experiment every now and then, they feel to keep the viewers engaged right till the end.
There was a time when PTV used to make historic dramas but now Pakistani producers are not interested in making a drama on such lines. The typical storylines get them the TRPs and they are satisfied with that. It takes an extremely knowledgeable person, a lot of research as well as creativity to write such a story. Not to mention the fact that it must take a great deal of time and commitment to pen down a storyline which spans so many years, is covered in so many seasons.
Pakistani viewers reject Pakistani dramas that exceed more than 28 episodes yet they cannot keep themselves from watching many seasons of Ertugrul Ghazi. The reason for this is pretty clear that the Turkish series has enough substance to keep the viewers coming back from more. Even after so many episodes, the element of suspense and the connection with the characters stays intact.
The Heroes
A story’s hero definitely makes a huge difference. Pakistani viewers have a good reason to fall in love with the heroes in Ertugrul Ghazi because they are those people who contributed so much to the history which is connected to every individual who is a Muslim. Pakistani dramas have some great heroes but most often men are shown as flawed humans in our dramas who cannot even keep their wives happy!
Although Ertugrul Ghazi has its fair share of family politics, the series as a whole definitely serves a much bigger purpose. If anything, this series shows that family dynamics can be shown in a more intelligent way and that there are so many genres that the producers can experiment with.
The Production Values
This has to be the determining factor in this case because Ertugrul Ghazi’s production values are so impressive that one cannot even compare them with that of Pakistani dramas. It takes a lot of money and technology to shoot the kind of series Ertugrul Ghazi is. Even the best Pakistani films do not have the same production values as the series. The way everything has been presented on-screen shows the kind of craftsmanship too which we have hardly ever seen in a Pakistani drama. Does that mean that our producers need to invest more in dramas? They definitely should concentrate more on quality than quantity.
Although some of the Pakistani dramas have been really entertaining, the rise of Ertugrul Ghazi in Pakistan clearly suggests where the preference lies. The way Pakistani viewers from all walks of life are hooked to this show is certainly unprecedented. This should be seen as a learning experience by the Pakistani producers to come up with something on the same lines. It requires commitment and skill since keeping the viewers engaged for 300 plus episodes is not an easy feat.

Seems like Aamir Liaquat Hussain isn’t satisfied with the ratings of Express TV’s ramzan transmission. The host cum televangelist has been making insensitive remarks about various personalities, adopting cheap antics and doing all in his might to perhaps give a boost to his channel’s ratings. But it seems everything has backfired on Hussain.
Once again Aamir Liaquat is on the receiving end of backlash because of the last aired episode of his Ramzan Transmission where people are accusing him of spreading sectarianism and trying to target a specific religious sect of the society.

Popular Turkish drama serial Dirilis Ertugrul is favourite drama serial of Pakistanis these days. It is often described as “Turkish Game of Thrones.”
The drama series is all about stories of the Muslim Oghuz Turks, fighting invading Mongols, Christian Byzantines and the fanatic Knights Templar Crusaders in Anatolia (now modern-day Turkey) of the 12th century.
Well, the two famous and favourite characters of Pakistanis from the drama series are Erutgrul Gazi and his wife Halime Sultan.
People are comparing these two with Pakistani stars Hamza Ali Abbasi and Naimal Khawar.
Some people even demanded that if there is going to be a Pakistani version of Dirilis Ertugrul then Hamza Ali Abbasi and Naimal Khawar must be chosen for the role of Ertrugrul and Halime Sultan.

Mufti Abdul Qavi is often part of controversies and this time he has again become part of another controversy.
In his interview, he said that beverages which contain less than 40% of alcohol are “halal”.
His statement was quite shocking and even the host was shocked after listening to it.
Qavi made these claims when he was giving an interview to an online portal. He said this in response to some fatwa issued by clerics in Saudi Arabia about beverages containing 40% alcohol are halal.
Mufti Abdul Qavi said, “In my view, the beverage which has less than 40% alcohol is halal. By halal means, you can drink it.”
He added, “The alcohol which is derived from minerals is absolutely halal.”
He compared paan with alcohol and said, “The other ulemas eat paan (betel leaf) which contains tobacco is halal then I can say alcohol is halal too.”
Sahir Lodhi’s morning show “Aapka Sahir” came under fire because of having dance segment in his show.
In the dance segment, young girls danced on Bollywood item songs which viewers didn’t like and he was severely criticized.
In a recent interview, Sahir Lodhi clarified everything and said:
“In that dance show, I didn’t interfere much I was just a host. In that show, parents were there and it was a doctored video which went viral.”
He questioned, “What kind of mentality is this that we think something bad while watching kids dancing? We are wrong if we think like this.”
“There are so many leading channels who had dance performances in their shows and nobody wrote about it. Somehow, people went after me whatever the reason was. I never disrespected anyone on my show I always wanted to keep it as a family show. Then, I decided not to do at all because I don’t want ratings on that cost.”
Sahir Lodhi also shared that he received many offers after that but he refused to do any more dance shows.
He added, “You would not believe how much money they were giving me but I believe at the end of the day you have certain responsibilities as a host.”
Pakistan’s former cricket captain Shahid Afridi is considered as a conservative father because he forbids his daughters to play sports.
Due to social and religious reasons, he doesn’t allow his daughters to play outdoor games. For this statement, he faced severe criticism from many people.
In a recent live session, Shahid Afridi talked about how he treats his daughters and clarified his stance.
He said, “We have some people who get a little education and start speaking the western language, it is difficult to control them. First thing I never comment on anyone’s life.”
“My daughters are getting an education and they have their own vision. My daughter Aqsa is number one throwball player in her school,” Afridi said.
“So we have to see a lot of things because we are Muslims and we have Pathani culture. Our religion teachers us many things and we have to follow it but some people take it as negative. Honestly, I don’t care about people because my God is pleased with me.”
Shahid Afridi further said, “I never stop my daughters from anything. My daughter Aqsa had a wish to join the army but I said to her that you are a little late, you can become a doctor. My daughter Ajwa wants to go to college for further education, my daughter Ansha wants to become a fashion designer and she wants to run my foundation with me.”
Afridi said, “So I believe it’s my duty to tell them about wrong and right till a certain age and then they have their own life. I believe as a parent nobody can teach better than us.”
Amjad Sabri was a famous qawwal and naat khawan of Pakistan. He belonged to the famous family of Sabri brothers and later emerged as South Asia’s popular qawwali singer.
He had a soulful voice and he often appeared on several Ramzan transmissions on different channels.
Unfortunately, in 2016, he was shot dead in Karachi in target killing. Many people were saddened over his death.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain in his Ramzan show remembered Amjad Sabri on his death anniversary and said:
“The 16th Ramzan is a special day because so many good and bad memories are attached to this day. Today, Amjad Sabri passed away. We keep remembering him.”
He also expressed his sorrow on the death of Athar Shah Khan who was s famous writer and actor.

In a live session with Vasay Chaudhry, Naumaan stated that Humayun Saeed needed to learn how to act. “He is yet to learn it but I hope that he will learn,” stated Naumaan adding that Adnan Siddiqui too was in the same boat.
Of course, the comment didn’t sit well with anyone, not even the industry and the huge fan following Adnan Siddiqui and Humayun Saeed enjoy. The video clip from the interview went viral and media houses too picked up on the comment.
Following the backlash, Naumaan Ijaz again came live in another session with designer Munib Nawaz and stated that people (bloggers) had randomly taken a single quote and translated it out of context.
“These bloggers don’t have any business these days because actors generally pay them for their promotion. So they need to stir controversy just in order to run their ‘sasti dukaanein’ (small businesses),” said Naumaan.
However, even if Naumaan would have been joking, his comments came off as distasteful and Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui appeared miffed with the Sang E Mar Mar actor.
“If God has blessed you with izzat (respect), then you need to appreciate this and respect others. I have always been very respectful towards everyone and in return, I have received more respect and love than I could have ever hoped for,” said Humayun Saeed.
“Whether Naumaan was laughing or was serious, he was right about one thing: I am still learning and I hope that I will continue learning. He, meanwhile, was very well-learned in the very first serial that he acted in and he still is the same in his latest projects. I don’t want to be like that. I don’t want to ever feel like I have learned everything, because if I do I will not be able to surprise people with new work,” the Meray Paas Tum Ho actor added.
Adnan Siddiqui too had something to add, “We, as human beings, at times forget that we have an Almighty who is watching over us and blessing us. At times, we make fun of our fraternity members which I feel is uncalled for. I don’t think that I am a good actor but I am extremely thankful to Allah for blessing me with love and respect in abundance. And who are we to make fun of someone who has been blessed by Allah,” questioned Adnan.
“We don’t make fun of family members in public, we always do it in private. Similarly, when we as a fraternity criticise someone’s work we do it in private and not in public. People sometimes try to get away from what they have said by claiming that it was a joke but one can see through what the person really meant under the garb of a joke,” stated the actor as a matter of fact.
It should be noted that both Adnan Siddiqui and Humayun Saeed have the biggest drama serial of the year to their credit. Also, Humayun Saeed is one of the leading actors of Pakistan whose films have done abundant business domestically and globally as well.

In a rather sad turn of events, veteran Pakistani actor, writer and poet Athar Shah Khan passed away in Karachi on Sunday (today), May 10, 2o20.
Lovingly known as Jedi, Athar Shah had been keeping unwell for a while now and lost his life today after suffering from a severe stroke.

Finally an episode with some interesting developments and quite a few scenes which suggested that the drama will now be moving forward to the next phase. The characters continue to be one-dimensional, their journeys, however, might be slightly more interesting now that there has been a major clash of values. The background score yet again was too loud and unnecessary at times. All the scenes, however, contributed something new to the story. I am waiting to see more variations in the characters, hopefully in the upcoming episodes.
Anaya Says Yes But….
The whole ‘blackmailing track’ was used to make Anaya fall in love with Hasan. Although she already liked him, everything that Hasan did to help her out in this episode and the previous one definitely leads Anaya to make her final decision. Mawra Hocane was convincing as the girl who was in love and ready to settle down. I am glad that the writer has shown that a girl who wants to be independent is not averse to the idea of getting married. A girl can get married and pursue her dreams at the same time. Anaya and Hasan yet again proved to be rather immature because they did not think things through. I really liked the scene in which Anaya told her mother about Hasan. Anaya’s bonding with her parents has been the best aspect of this drama. Their scenes are always realistic and all the actors involved share remarkable on-screen chemistry. That is the reason why it would have been so much better if Anaya’s father was in the picture too when she disclosed this news. A heart-to-heart talk with her parents, especially her father prior to their meeting with Hasan’s parents should have been shown.
I was unsure about Hasan’s father until last week since there were times when he appeared to be a reasonable person. However, the way he played games tonight was yet another move that wasn’t well-thought-out. That is the main issue I have with this script, the characters can at times act in ways that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Also, this was the kind of scenario which has been done-to-death in our dramas. Most often we see the boy’s mother doing what Hasan’s father did tonight. Anaya’s father’s reaction made perfect sense, Muhammad Ahmed made this scene really emotional. The handshake was an interesting addition to this scene, it showed the coldness with which Hasan’s father greeted Anaya’s father, something which he felt instantly.
Miraal’s Narcissism
Miraal is definitely a narcissist who isn’t only in love with herself but she constantly feels the need to have things her way. The way her naani’s words came to haunt her repeatedly in this episode also reflected the underline guilt she felt but it wasn’t something she was going to address. Although she kept on thinking about all the warnings her naani gave her, there was absolutely no change in her attitude. On the contrary, she is still on a mission to prove her deceased naani wrong. However, I always feel that there was a need to show more direct interactions between Miraal and her naani, then these flashbacks would have been more impactful.
I hope that as the story progresses Miraal’s state of mind will be explored even more. Self-importance above everything else and lack of empathy are the two most significant traits of a narcissist. The fact that Miraal was willing to kill Anaya to get her out of the way suggested that she really does need professional help. She controls everyone around her and she cannot come into terms with the fact that Hasan has for a change made up his mind about something without her help. Her father’s dialogues when he met Anaya’s parents clearly showed where that mentality came from. Her father is definitely an enabler.
Miraal’s mother’s apology tonight was a nice surprise since most often she does not have much to say. The mother is a good woman who can clearly see that her daughter and husband are on the wrong track but she is too submissive. This character most often seems like a caricature, unlike Anaya’s parents who have definite personalities and presence.
The writer through Miraal’s conversation with her friend has tried to convey that there has been some change in her personality after her naani passed away but that change cannot really be seen. Apart from the fact that Miraal is lost at times, she is just as self-absorbed and shallow as she was before. Sarah Khan looked really attractive in some of the scenes tonight but her character isn’t turning out to be as appealing as I was hoping it would be.
Final Remarks
This was an entertaining episode overall and there was a major shift in the story. It was however not free of clichés. Hasan will leave his house after finding out what actually happened and then perhaps Miraal’s father will suffer a big loss in the business at some point, that is what the scenes in the office tonight suggested. There must be a reason why the developments in the office are being given so much screen time. The preview of the next episode was intense, I am waiting to see how the story unfolds.
